stopped in for a breakfast while downtown. Great food and service. Busy location with many office staff stopping in to eat.

Best Veggie burgers in town

By Sacranicko1 |

If there is one bad review online, don't acknowledge it. This place is amazing. I had to call over the waitress to ask if she accidentally give me a meat burger. Nope! They are really smokey and soooo delicious. I had 3. The blackened burger and the mushroom. Good iced tea. The lady here is very sweet and a fun person to chat around with. Enjoy this place.

Very friendly and good food to boot

By Gdy2schu |

Visited Good Earth Cafe while in Portland for a conference. Decided to stop in here because it was close to my hotel. Could not believe how friendly the staff was. Woman who worked the register each day greeted each person who came in with a smile and friendly conversation. There were regulars who came in and she greeted them by name and knew what their "usual" was. I returned several times because of the food but also for the positive atmosphere within the cafe.

Delightful Breakfast Find!

By narfishi |

Located on the bottom floor of the Justice Center, this husband & wife run establishment serves dynamite food! Wish we had found it sooner during our Portland stay. (Closed on Sunday.) Fluffy and delicious pancakes, poached eggs, crisp bacon, egg scramble with a multitude of mix-in's, and house made fried potatoes satiated our hungies. Extremely friendly service and reasonable price point. We'd most definitely return if in the area.

Disappointing

By MzLiberty |

The vegetarian burrito was listed as spinach, feta and eggs, but it was actually mostly potatoes with a little egg, a tiny bit of spinach and no discernable feta. The service was friendly.

Great food, great coffee, and good prices.

By beccag21 |

I ordered the classic two eggs, potatoes, and toast with a cup of coffee expecting an average breakfast - it was so much better. The potatoes were not frozen hash browns, they were more of a baked potato fried and served in lumpy pieces - but it was so good. The toast was nice wheat bread. The black and white medium blend coffee was excellent (I even returned from my trip and ordered two bags for home.) It was good quality food, good service, and good prices (my meal and coffee was $7 before tip.)

Great Breakfast

By Joseph L |

Staying downtown and wanted a good home-style breakfast. So good, we went both days we were in town. Family owned and family run. There were 3 of us so we tried several things. The omelette, pancakes, fresh eggs, and biscuits & gravy were outstanding on there own. The sausage was delicious (l got an order both days). But, the chicken fried steak is the best I've ever had. Crispy outside, tender steak and that home made sausage gravy, Fantastic. Don't forget the coffee. The owner picked it specially for the cafe.

Great weekend brunch

By Maya Z |

The menu has a little but of everything brunch and the staff is so nice. I made the mistake of not getting home fries but the fruit cup was yummy too. I tried some of my husband's potatoes and they were great! We both got breakfast sandwiches and feel charged up for an active weekend day.

Terrific Breakfast

By Sandra G |

We were in town for a conference and read about this place on Trip Advisor. Former reviewers were right, it was excellent. One of us got the pancakes and said they were perfect, light, not heavy. The side of sausage was delicious locally made and very tasty. One of us got the Croque Madame, a delicious breakfast sandwich of lean, thin sliced ham, Swiss cheese and Dijon mustard on toasted sour dough topped with a fried egg. It was fantastic and served with home fried potatoes. Our third party got the breakfast burrito and said it was really good, especially the salsa that accompanied it. The owner/manager was so friendly and funny and her daughter was a server and was the same. The restaurant is next door to a police and sheriff's precinct station and the officers all came in and out in a constant stream, attesting to how good the food is. If you are in the area, don't miss it for breakfast or lunch.

A little for everyone

By lisa c |

We were in town for a matinee at Keller Auditorium. It seemed like the whole neighborhood was closed! We wandered around and found "The Good Earth Café" We all found just the right bite for lunch. The food was freshly cooked, had wholesome ingredients, and the service was outstanding. Very friendly staff. We will be back.

More than just coffee and pastries

By iLind |

We spent our first morning in Portland looking for breakfast that wouldn't cost as much as the downtown hotels charge but offered a wider range than the coffee bar, of which there are many. First day we failed. The second morning we found the Good Earth Cafe. Very friendly staff. Sort of old fashioned comfort food. We both had breakfasts built around two eggs, toast, coffee, a selection of meat, potatoes, and coffee. Plenty of tables to sit, eat, and enjoy free coffee refills. We were very glad to find it, and will likely return at least once. I don't know about other meals, as we just had breakfast. It's easy to find, on the first floor of high-rise building.

Wonderful Breakfast place!

By Zoo42 |

Worth a slow walk, we enjoyed the atmosphere so much the first morning we came back the each day of our trip! The staff are so friendly and enjoyable. They really enjoy what they do, which makes it a fun place to have coffee and breakfast in the morning. Good food, too!

A delicious breakfast

By Tennis1965 |

My wife was in downtown Portland for work, so I went out looking for breakfast that was not a chain establishment. It started raining while I was wandering around & I found this place. I ordered the bacon, egg & guacamole sandwich on sourdough bread with potatoes & it was fabulous!

Great breakfast!

By Mike-Adela |

Thanks for all the other positive reviews! Friendly staff, good basic breakfast. Substitutes no problem. We have one more night on Portland, so will probably come back tomorrow. Had I known coffee was included in the specials for $6.50, I would not have stopped on the way over for a cup of Joe. And 70 ' s music is what I grew up with, so right up my Ashley!

Quick delicious breakfast

By Steve J |

Straight forward café. Good breakfast food and coffee. Order at the register, get a number, grab a table, and they bring the food to you. Menu on the door so you can know what you want before you go in. The people were friendly and efficient. This café shares a building with the City of Portland Police Bureau, so a lot of police frequent the place, so it is safe 8-).

Nice Local Breakfast

By D L |

So nothing fancy here, but great food! We walked a couple of blocks to eat here vs our hotel. Walk up counter order and they bring it out to your table fresh and hot. Even my vegetarian daughter was happy with the selections. A great value for the quality and service.

Just right

By GypsySayra |

This place was open the earliest and latest on a Monday morning. They served fresh local food. The eggs were so fresh! Service was personable and friendly. The meals were large but straight to the point. They had local coffee as well. I had a breakfast sandwich with a side of their home fries. They used fresh whole grain bread and did not skimp on anything. I would definitely return.

Every dish was excellent

By MRA |

We did a take-away at our serviced apartment for 5 at Kensington HS. The food was delivered hot and Delicious. That’s right that with a capital “D”. Every dish, the chicken, the beef, the prawn, the vegetable, the rice and the noodles all were great. The difference is when you know from the taste that each dish was separately cooked not variations done with the a single pre-cooked sauce. Will certainly drop in one of the branches of this restaurant for a meal.

The food is amazing! The staff is amazing! I highly recommend the biscuits & gravy.

By Maurice L |

The food is amazing! The staff is amazing! I highly recommend the biscuits & gravy. The new location is nestled inside the Police station, which will either make you feel safe or guilty for ordering bacon.

Great food, friendly service, reasonable prices, perfect breakfast

By Travelingfamily15228 |

Ate here twice during a recent trip to Portland and can't wait for the chance to go back. Order at the counter and get your own drink, then sit back and enjoy a yummy breakfast. Had unbelievably fluffy pancakes one day and a bacon, egg, and guacamole sandwich the other. Both excellent.

Great breakfasts!

By Nancy S |

If breakfast is an important meal to you, you will love The Good Earth. We ate there five out of the seven days we were in Portland. Very friendly and prompt service.

Lovely little gem in a new spot

By Travelingfamily15228 |

The Good Earth cafe had moved since my last visit and while the new spot may lack some of the quirky charm of the prior building, the friendly staff and delicious food were just as I remembered them.

Delicious food and friendly staff

By Beehivemdi |

I have eaten at The Good Earth Cafe for breakfast twice in my four days in Portland. The first visit I had scrambled eggs with sausage gravy over a biscuit, which came with hash browns (I neglected to get a photo of that meal). The second visit I got Challah French Toast with added bacon and an added egg on the side. Both meals were very tasty! The combo of the eggs, sausage gravy and biscuit was really good! I think if I deconstructed it, none of he components would be the best I’d ever had, but the way it was put together really was delicious! I also liked that they fully cooked the scrambled eggs, and didn’t leave them too runny, like some places. I didn’t even have to request that. Having that memory of the sausage biscuit in my head, i returned for another breakfast and had the Challah French Toast. I also ordered a side of bacon (extra crispy) and an over-medium egg. Everything was cooked perfectly! The bacon was fully cooked without being burned and the egg was exactly over-medium, with a runny yolk, but all egg whites fully cooked. The French toast was the real star though. They list on the menu that the batter is lightly spiced and it really kicked it up a notch! The spices made what could be bland French toast, into a warm, cozy flavor that tastes like fall. The batter to bread ratio was perfect, with the bread being not to dry and not too soggy. It also was able to take syrup and butter without getting soggy. I also appreciated that they were not stingy with the butter or syrup. In general, they were generous with condiments and anticipated my needs. When I first went, I wasn’t sure what to do, when I walked in and saw a table of menus. I then saw the sign indicating I should order at the counter. Helpfully, there was a menu on the counter as well. The man took my order, gave me a table sign and my beverage and showed me where I could find sugar, cream, etc. for my tea. Luckily they did have honey there was well. I picked a table and the person who brought over my food was very nice. He brought over condiments and checked to make sure I had everything I needed. Though the atmosphere isn’t fancy, or even cozy, there was an attempt at decorating that I could appreciate. It reminded me of the breakfast/lunch counters at home near my office where people mostly grab and go, but the food was so much better here! I really enjoyed listening to the owner and the other staff greeting and talking with their regulars, and watching them welcome and gently guide newbies like myself. If I lived and worked here, I would definitely become one of the regulars! A side note- I saw another review say that the food was greasy. I did not find that to be the case. It isn’t health food, but it isn’t a greasy spoon either.

Homey and Delicious

By jl0313 |

This has been a regular for my coworkers and I for a year or two. Great burgers and grilled cheese. You get to pick the type of bread and cheese. The owners/staff are down to earth genuine gems. Great for lunch or breakfast!

Delightful

By cindirelly |

We were sent to this place by our hotel concierge during a midweek stay - we absolutely loved it. The woman at the counter was extremely friendly, the breakfast we ate was completely delicious, the vibe was laid back coffee shop style, and it was just overall a great start to a trip through Portland. Prices were surprisingly reasonable (maybe $7-$8 each for food and beverage) and the menu had a nice variety of ordinary and unique. Loads of different breakfast sandwiches with interesting fillings, plus eggs and bakery items and such - so much to choose from, we wanted to go back and try more. Unfortunately when we routed back through Portland on Sunday, this restaurant wasn't open :-(

Super Friendly and Tasty!

By ShamrockGo |

From the moment we walked into this downtown spot we were greeted with the warmth and hospitality usually bestowed upon a "regular." Excellent and affordable breakfast from the friendliest staff in Portland. Check out the French Toast or the Biscuits and Gravy! Thanks ladies!!!

Good food, nice place--

By shewholovestoeat |

Tried the cafe for lunch with a friend. She got the burger, looked really good. I tried the gyros. Very good. Lots of meat, good sauce, red onions and fresh tomatoes. Came with a little side of mac salad, very tasty. Also a pickle. Good prices and service. Really clean and tidy inside.

Good value breakfast at Good Earth Cafe

By Nelson K |

I, along with my wife and daughter, enjoyed a good breakfast at the Good Earth Cafe. It was a bit hard to find, taking up space in a government building in Portland; thanks to the sandwich board sign, we found it. We visited on a Monday morning; it was apparent that many employees of the building stopped by to get coffee and food to go. I ordered the French Toast; I found it delicious, with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. My wife and daughter split the breakfast crepes, which they found delectable. We agreed that the food was a good value for the money and we would eat at the Good Cafe again if we are in the area.

Staff is terrible

By Tundra_honky |

We're from out of town. Looked at the reviews, nice vibe, clean and order taker was polite. Expecting nice experience. OMG the staff bickering, fighting, screwing up orders. Was too much! The the problem female who was the most loud, started talking about a law suit, and her dog pooping. Will never be back.

Cute, Cozy, and Delicious!

By aliniemeyer182 |

My friend and I stumbled upon the Good Earth Cafe during our day trip to Portland. We had no plans for lunch and we were desperate to eat, and I’m so glad we found this place! The prices were low, the food was fantastic, the staff was so friendly, and the location was amazing. Tucked in a street corner across from a beautiful park, the Good Earth Cafe is the perfect place for a quick and tasty meal. I had the challah French toast (AMAZING) and my friend had the tuna melt (SO GOOD). The low prices are reflected in the portion sizes, but it was still filling and I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Good Earth Not So Good

By pattiinspokane |

Because of the high reviews we decided on the good earth cafe for breakfast. Portland has so many great little restaurants that have so much character and this place is soulless. Not at all like what the name implies. ( are you kidding me? Radio station playing with ads, DJs, and Tony orlando and Dawn.) The Pastries and sweets we saw placing or order at the counter looked great...just sorry I did not have those instead of the breakfast I ordered. The scrambles we had more like something my college son would have cooked for us. Our scrambled were just warm, barely, they were watery with no color. Sausage was not bad but you couldn't tell it apart from the mushrooms. The toast was sliced Comercial bread, dry and cold, with just a dab of butter in the center. Alert: they handed me a key to the restroom and someone was already in the restroom. Embarrassing. Come on guys, if the door doesn't shut properly and people are gong in without a key then get rid of the keys! This place could possibly be a three but our expectations were so high and you know what that means. Huge disappointment. Should have gone to voodoo donuts.

Nice lunch spot in the middle of downtown...

By tkingsbury |

Stopped in while on a work trip in Portland, had the philly cheesesteak which was great. However, the highlight was the excellent staff and friendly service.

As good as the reviews

By sanjay n |

Very nice cozy restaurant..great breakfast and more so very freindly staff always there to serve and make customers welcome..

An excellent hamburger!

By Celia N |

From its name, I wondered whether this would be a vegetarian - or a Chinese - restaurant - it turned out to serve excellent burgers and wraps - I much enjoyed my burger with guacamole and bacon. Note that earlier this year it moved a few blocks from its original location which may still be in some of the visitors' guides - but keep walking and you will not be disappointed. Very friendly staff.

Unexpected Delight

By Kazmo77 |

We found this Cafe on TripAdvisor and walked to it one morning for breakfast. What a fantastic place! It appears to be a typical diner; however, it is incredibly clean, the gentleman running it were very friendly and extremely efficient and the food was delicious and well-priced. The servings were large and neither of us could finish, try as we might. I was very impressed to see one worker immediately cleaning and re-setting multiple tables, then sweeping and restocking items. All the while getting those coming in and sending off those who were leaving with a friendly, "have a great day!" We will definitely eat here again the next time we are in town.

Filling Breakfast and Friendly Faces

By Gabriella B |

My first impression of this cafe was that it must be the trusted place of the locals as I saw many police officers in addition to the waitress identifying friendly faces that I assumed were regulars. However, she treated myself and a colleague with the same genuine friendliness! The menu was full of great choices for breakfast and lunch, and they had some scrumptious homemade desserts available at the counter as well. Service was fast, the food was amazing, and I would love to return on my next trip to Portland!

No egg in scramble?

By Shaune M |

Ordered a scramble to go, got home, no egg! (mozzarella that I ordered was missing, too) Maybe I was supposed to ask for egg for my scramble?

Good earth is a great lunch meeting place and standby for locals

By Phil G |

The location is great in downtown southwest on 3rd street between SW Salmon and Taylor, and the food is cafe style and good and very reasonably priced. I had one of their specials - the tuna melt with fries, but they let me sub in a green salad for the fries, and add a cup of soup all for $11.00. They were friendly, accommodating, and flexible - that is, very easy to do business with. And the tuna melt sandwich was huge.

Located downtown Portland, very cozy, great food

By GoodLife1993 |

The owner is Fantastic. Very friendly and personable. You order and pay for your food before sitting down, then they bring it to your table. Great breakfast. They offer breakfast classics, home made baked goods, and choices of good lunches. You get your own coffee and it is unlimited. We loved that!! The food tasted GREAT. Very reasonably priced.

Something for everyone - and the food is yummy and reasonable

By Redsky713 |

So many positive reviews can't be wrong. The Multnomah Village area is where the locals go to eat. It is a bit out of the way for travelers - but worth stopping by. We loved the variety of their menu - something to satisfy the "organic-only vegan" as well as the "meat and potatoes lover". And the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is "mom-and-pop" corner cafe - so if you're looking for fancy decor - go elsewhere. If you're looking for a great "home-cooked" local meal in a friendly, homey cafe - at a reasonable price - this is the place!

Welcoming ... Good food, great service ...

By R K |

Ended up here for breakfast on a Saturday after a disastrous experience with the "hostess" at the Bijou ... What a great experience here ... Much more in line with our other Portland experiences. Restaurant is new-ish, and is bright, clean with a nice atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Service was quick and efficient. Food was very good. It was a delight in every way, and we will definitely return on our next visit to Portland.

Good food, Fast service

By nattie434 |

This place is a short walk from Pioneer Square but there was no waiting for breakfast and prices were very reasonable. The food was served quickly and was delicious. The local police officers grab food to go from there.

Search for this place...

By Claudia B |

Found this place after searching with Siri and it was the closest to our location. We must have been early for Portland standards on a Saturday because there were only two people in the place which immediately set off warning bells. Like what if the locals don't even come here? But after we walked around three more blocks we decided it was better than those $15 one egg plates at the shi-shi restaurants with white table cloths. We only wanted a breakfast, not a five star meal! We were immediately greeted by a very friendly cheerful staff person who explained that you order at the desk and she brings your meal to the table. Bottomless cups of coffee accompanied our Portland special. Great eggs (that actually looked fresh & orange/yellow), mounds of home fries, toast of all varieties, crispy bacon. Just really great home cooked breakfast, the kind your mom would make and you'd never criticize that would you? Loved this place so much we returned the next morning.

Great lunch

By RemBrandNL |

Dropped by for lunch during our visit to Portland. Friendly service, good food and decent prices. We had tuna melt and a burger menu. Would definitely eat there again.

Delightful - they made us feel like regulars!

By IvyRod |

Visited twice this week during our vacation - they made us feel like regulars! Loved it - hearty food, fresh veggies & turkey sausage in my omelet, good variety of hot teas, fluffy pancakes. Diner feel in a corporate environment. Sassy & fun - will definitely return next time we are in Portland!

Simply Good Food in the Center of Town

By NomadicFrames |

Didn't expect to find a home-style, diner breakfast in what I'm assuming is the business district of Portland. Simple place with good food and good prices. Wish we found this place earlier!

Disappointed based on the reviews - self service and average quality

By IRBDave |

We had eaten breakfast at The Daily Feast the previous couple of days and wanted to try somewhere different. We read the review and this sounded like a great place. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. First it's more of a self serve restaurant, you order your meal and the counter, sit down and they bring you your order. The coffee is at the side, and was just warm, not on any heated appliance. I ordered the same eggs, bacon and sausage that I order the previous days, but the sausage was only warm, the eggs were under-cooked and looked a little raw and the bacon wasn't great, My wife had the pancakes and they were only so-so. Nothing stood out about this place and you can find better.

Reasonable fresh well valued breakfast

By ANDY K |

This is a small café offering a reasonably priced simple breakfast. We enjoyed fresh bagels and granola with fruit and yoghurt. The Revolucion coffee was good and the prices were very reasonable. Service is friendly and the café is clean.

Great Breakfast place in Portland CBD

By James A |

Wife and I had breakfast there before heading to the airport for our trip back east, and we just loved it! The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. A loaded omelet, french toast, 2 coffees and a smile for $15! A perfect way to start your day. And the folks who own it are as nice and as personable as you could possibly imagine ... and we got to hear their life stories too! I love places like this where you know the people running it are putting all they have into making a success of the business and are having fun while they do it! HIGHLY recommend!!

Unremarkable Cafe / Diner food

By TBSoCal71 |

I saw all the recommendations on yelp and decided to stop by this place. I had breakfast and my partner had the burger. My food was okay, his was slightly better. The french fries and onion rings tasted like they had not changed the grease in months. We had to ask for something else. The waitresses were more interested in talking about their private lives than really doing much else. However, when you asked them, they responded and were pleasant. Based on this experience, I would not return.

The Cops Eat Here

By StepMorris1 |

You know the cliche about any place where the cops eat has to be good, well it applies here. Good, straightforward breakfast joint with a good systems that shoots the food out fast. Barky hostess makes sure the line keeps rolling. Create your omelet and add the kitchen sink. Very solid and friendly.

Worth the trip from anywhere in the city

By jcharisman |

I asked the concierge where we could get a great, no frills breakfast that might be a place that locals go and was pointed here. I was totally in love with the place from the moment I walked in. Greeted bu the owner (Chris) and made to feel very welcome. Food and coffee were excellent and loved the simple decor. My veggie omelet (no tofu) was fresh and yummy as was the 7 grain toast. Great home fries too. And, the best coffee of our stay in the city. Truly a HIDDEN GEM!!!

Decent breakfast place downtown

By Fernando R |

This was a good breakfast place near where my conference was. Offered typical breakfast food with pleasant atmosphere. I had an omelet but the eggs were slightly over done so it was a touch dry. I feel it would have been really good other than that.

Down to Earth, great food and folks

By moshisan |

The hotel Concierge sent us here for a good casual breakfast. It was a GREAT casual down to earth breakfast. Good (mostly natural) food, nicely prepared a delicious. We came back every day, except Sunday. Unfortunately they take Sunday off. The staff were very nice and accomidating. I like the free cup of coffee with your breakfast. Baked/bread options were also tasty.

Great breakfast

By Nacho67 |

Good food, good selection, nothing fancy, solid menu. Seemed to be popular with both locals and visitors, seating can be hard to come by because of this.

Good Spot for Breakfast

By Paul G |

Spent a few days in Portland recently and stopped into the Good Earth Cafe for breakfast. No complaints. Friendly, helpful, chatty lady took our order. The food was well prepared and delicious. Try it out!

Not My Favorite, But Not Bad

By PeaceMamaSunshine |

I was expecting this to be part of the Urth Cafe that is in California so I was disappointed when it was more a diner and not healthy food, so please take that into consideration. Super sweet waitress and lovely place. Food was fine, but a little too greasy for my taste. Would eat there again if in a pinch or for convenience but would not seek out.

Nice Place

By Captrik |

Had breakfast at the Good Earth Cafe. $9 for large breakfast with coffee (which was very good and not Starbucks!). Retro music (70's) in the background. Nice. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Nice change for a quick and I thought good breakfast.

Great breakfast

By perambulator |

Just had breakfast there. Excellent experience all around. The food was good, and the service was quick and friendly. It is run by a husband (in the kitchen) and wife (everything out front) team. Didn't meet him, but she is a former bakery owner who claimed to have made more than 500,000 cakes in her career!

Still as good as ever

By marc k |

Visited again, a few months after first reviewing. Had African lentil stew with brown rice, stole a bit of partners butternut squash lasagne. Both were exceptionally tasty as was the interesting varied salad with lentils. Loved every mouthful, left there full and satisfied and looking forward to next visit. Hoping they bring out a cookbook soon.

Fantastic find!

By WallysworldCalgary |

Superb breakfast, wonderful service... With walking distance of the Rose Hotel and very good value......

Great Breakfast in a clean atmosphere

By mary d |

When you enter you go to the counter and order. Take your number to your table and the food arrives promptly. Too many choices that made it hard to order. Gus and Kris, the owners and their staff are all friendly and efficient.

Good food and service, try it!

By kell28 |

We stayed at the downtown Portland Hilton tower. Wanted a good, simple food breakfast and the hotel recommended this one (about 2 blocks). A small and informal place with great food...try the biscuit and gravy...southern style and authentic! They will bend over backwards to please you. Coffee was good too. I would liken it to a very good diner in the South in the old days.

Great Value/Friendly Staff

By Debbie H |

I stopped in and ate breakfast twice here. The food was fresh and the staff very helpful. They let me exchange the fried potatoes for a cup of fresh fruit for the same price and no hassle.

Lovely welcome and breakfast

By NickyCBrixham |

We arrived here jetlagged and tired after flying in from the UK and were immediately made very welcome by the friendly ladies at the counter. They even took the time to explain the menu and portion sizes to us Limeys who don't know what a 12oz coffee looks like. One portion of pancakes and a vegetarian burrito later - plus great 'drip coffee' and we were set up for our first day in Portland. The menu is varied with lots of healtheir options, the portions are just right, the atmosphere is warm and friendly -highly recommended. In fact we went back the next day too!

Awesome simplicity

By pnwfoodguy |

Nothing fancy but home made REALLY good simple food.I have come back here several times since my first visit. That says a lot!

A pleasant spot for lunch

By ShellyKP34 |

Great burgers, friendly staff, easy to get to from the rail line. It's clean with ample seating and the prices are not bad. A nice little place to stop for lunch.

Fantastic breakfast and great value!

By George K |

Decided to skip the standard $15 hotel breakfast and walk three blocks (it was pretty cold too) to the Good Earth Cafe, and I couldn't have been happier. Ordered eggs over easy, sausage, potatoes and wheat toast....I mean, why bother to write a review for such a basic meal? I seldom write reviews, btw. The eggs were delicious, the sausage different in an excellent way, the skillet potatoes were exactly what I hope for and never get in a restaurant, and even the wheat toast was full of incredible flavor. Couldn't be happier and will certainly return the next time I'm in Portlandia.

Been there many times, never fails

By Laura C |

this place has such a homey feel with the owner working every day and the rest of the staff being super friendly. Went there for breakfast once and have been back many times, just tried lunch for the first time and it was just as good. Great prices and portions, and they work hard to get the food out as quickly as possible.

Wonderful Breakfast

By SenatorJerome |

Walked to this great breakfast place from out rented apartment. Located in the courthouse building next to the new Federal Building. I ordered the chicken fried steak which came with country fried potatoes and two eggs. Expertly cooked and presented for me. Oh, also a great biscuit came with the meal. The steak was tender and the gravy excellent. A great little place with welcoming staff and service.

Authentic Diner & Delicious Breakfast Platters

By junior_traveler |

This homey, friendly local restaurant is a wonderful breakfast location - I enjoyed their simple and delicious egg scramble with a ton of generous veggies, and the coffee was spot-on. Would absolutely recommend you swing by the Good Earth Cafe when you're looking for a breakfast spot in Portland.

Outstanding value

By Jackb |

A great breakfast place in overpriced downtown Portland! Very reasonable prices, fast and friendly service, good food. Try a build-your-own omelet, same price no matter how many ingredients you choose! If we were staying longer we'd eat here every day.

Good Grilled Chicken Burger

By Igor L |

The grilled chicken was done really well, hit the spot on a busy lunch hour. You should get there a bit earlier on lunchtimes.

Great burger for an even better price.

By Thebarnnc |

Stopped in for lunch and we both ordered burgers. They were incredible in spite of being cooked well done when we ordered as rare as possible. Totally hit the spot after traveling all morning.

Good value, nothing fancy

By John M |

The food is good and the price is very reasonable, especially when you consider you are right in the middle of the city. You order at the counter and then they bing the food to you. Decent portions and there is no wait.

Good food, good prices

By Patsy D |

This is a very nice place to get a healthy breakfast in downtown Portland. Clean with friendly service.

Hidden gem, real food, great coffee

By Luke8842 |

Stumbled on this place looking for a "real" lunch. Had excellent sandwich with turkey carved off the bird, cranberry. best cappucino I've had in a while. Not fancy, basic without pretensions, nice enlarged photos on wall.

Misnamed

By jtjf |

I expected a more natural, healthy type of restaurant based on the name. Instead everything was processed and greasy. If you like that kind of meal than this is for you. Place was a bit dirty. Just didn’t have a great vibe.

Great breakfast value

By mooseofblue |

Great food and lovely service. Great French toast for breakfast. Get something reasonably priced and normal sized portions. Kobos brand coffee as drip coffee. They moved to 1136 SW3rd Ave!

Fresh, consistent, generous

Ordered business lunch to go on three different occasions from Good Earth Cafe. I had the tuna melt on sourdough... Outstanding. Co-workers raved about the Ruben on rte and a chicken gyro. Generous sized sandwiches. Bread is fresh. Also had the sweet potato fries...yum

Small with limited menu - but oh, so good!

We stopped in for breakfast while in Portland. We both had the French toast with a side of bacon and coffee. The French toast was perfectly cooked and exceptionally flavorful! The bacon, while not the thickest, was not paper thin either. My wife asked for it crispy and she got it - not always a given. The staff was very nice. It's a small place located at 1136 SW 3rd Avenue, corner of Madison St on the bottom floor of the Justice Center just over the Hawthorne Bridge. This is their new location. They also serve Angus burgers, store baked roast beef, and baked goods. They are only open until early afternoon (not open for dinner).

Great breakfast...

First this place has moved two blocks down right next to the justice center. Much better location.... The breakfast was wonderful. Pancakes, eggs, toast, hash browns, everything cooked to perfection. Would go back everyday if we could..

Nice pancakes and reasonably priced

By Kironp |

Had pancakes here, the syrup was nice, and they had a choice of 3 coffees you have to order at the counter but they have waitress who bring your food. Wasn't that busy for a Tuesday morning

Disappointing breakfast

When we saw how empty this place was, we should have selected a different place. Bread for toast tasted like generic store bought bread margarine instead of butter.. Food was so-so. The entire places needs to be deep cleaned. Coffee bitter.

Good food, great people

Loved the home style food. Every morning we went back for a great breakfast to start our day. The oatmeal was perfect, add a huge bowl of fresh fruit. Hubby had breakfast burritos or a traditional bacon and eggs. Super clean and again, the staff was so friendly.

Chris is awesome!

Chris always remembers my name and the fact that I love my Earl Grey latte. No one makes it quite as good as she does.

We were looking for a good, inexpensive place to eat breakfast and we found it. Good omelets and home fries and great friendly service. We would definitely go back again.

GREAT Staff and GREAT Food

By Bradsky |

We've been going to breakfast on the weekend for years and we always take our family and friends visiting from out of town. The Service is excellent and friendly. The food is fresh and all prepared by hand by the owners. It's simple fare but it tastes so good, the portions are large (not huge) and very affordable. The menu has a very large selection and everything we've tried has been very good. I think it gets overlooked because it's not in the center of downtown, but it's very close and easy to get to. If you want freshly prepared, home-cooked food, this is the place to go. The restaurant is clean and comfortable but not fancy.

Better than expected

By JeevesTraveler |

At first glance you would expect average diner food and service here. Our experience exceeded the expectation on all levels. This place is clean, food was fresh, tasty and great portions. We were there for breakfast and got omlettes. Yumm. Everyone working here was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to return.

Get your espresso here!

Super friendly, awesome service, great espresso at an excellent price! I felt like a regular the second time I walked in.

Wonderful food. Very freshly made.

When I went to this restaurant I was off a plane and a long day at business. So, it was the first thing I'd had in well over 24 hours. Definitely wanted something fresh and veggie heavy. Consequently, I ordered a lot of food! They were a little taken aback and asked several times if I really wanted that much. Given that they make everything to order in the moment, it was a bit much. But, they pulled it through and the food was wonderful! Although they do have take out and pre order food, I would expect that if you walk in and order it might be a bit of time. I would put this place top of the list though to call ahead and either order and eat there or pick up.
