In over 25 years of going to the Great Greek, we have never had anything but a delicious meal and excellent service. Our secret late lunch spot - one of the few places open all afternoon - it is quiet, prompt service, fresh cooked food arrives really quite fast. I love to share the Greek Vegetarian platter, or the Village Salad with Chicken, but really everything here is really good - burgers, fish, kebabs, bread, house red wine, turkish coffee. It's fun to go at night too with the music and festivities, but our favorite remains a quiet afternoon sipping wine, soup or crunching salad, in the winter with the rain coming down, or summer with the LA day whizzing past on Ventura Blvd. The Great Greek is a landmark to us, a place we take out of town visitors, meet locals for a reliable meal and good conversation.

Excellent food homemade made fresh everyday with love all local organic products. They grow there own herbs and have there own lemon trees around the property that they use everyday. amazing service great menu Full Bar with the best Happy Hour Excellent selection of spirits and Beers

Finally made an evening to go to the Great Greek open since 1984 which by LA standards makes it a classic! Nice selection of traditional Greek dishes- I highly recommend the "Family Feast" at dinner it is $30.00 per person for a tasting of 14 different dishes- including the whipped Greek Caviar, pita bread flown in from Chicago.. super tasty and all kinds of other dishes! So much food and fun to taste so many different things- I took off one star only because LA is full of restaurants- and on LA standards it is good but not 5 stars IMHO so I am not sure I would come back right away- so many choices! The restaurant has lots of tables for larger groups but carefully seated people so you weren't on top of anyone= Live music even on Wednesday night made it a great date night! A must on Ventura blvd!

My husband and I had a wonderful visit for dinner at The Great Greek Restaurant in Sherman Oaks on June 18, 2023. The hostess, Oriana and our waiter, Peter, and other staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The restaurant was fun and festive with live Greek music performed by very talented musicians, Gerasimo and Dobren. We started off with a Tarama, a favorite Greek caviar dip with grilled pita bread which was simply outstanding. They state that “Our centuries-old recipe is among the world's best” and I absolutely agree as I have ordered it in many Greek restaurants across the United States. We then enjoyed a crunchy and flavorful Peasant Chopped Salad with chopped romaine lettuce, lots of wonderful feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, capers, bell peppers, red onions, red and green peppers and a Greek vinaigrette. My husband ordered the delicious Moussaka, with baked eggplant, ground beef, Greek spices and bechamel sauce. Wanting to sample many dishes off of the huge menu, I ordered the Combination Plate which featured House specialties on a large platter- pastitsio pasta, moussaka, stuffed grape leaves, spinach cheese pie "spanakopita", lamb of the day, oven-roasted potato, rice pilaf, and the vegetable of the day. It was incredible and I had lots to take home with us and so did my husband. We saw many other dishes we wanted to try next time. We enjoyed reading the history of the restaurant and its artwork which included fascinating political posters and more. The valet service was so convenient and one gentleman had worked there since 1984 and was very nice. We HIGHLY recommend a visit to The Great Greek with family and friends! They won’t let you leave hungry!

Had a great lunch at The Great Greek. The avgolemolo soup was some of the best I've had anywhere, lots of chicken & vegetables and not over salted. The Greek salad was really light and fresh and full of the traditional goodies. The gyros was moist, well seasoned and full of meat and ripe tomatoes. The lamb souvlaki was tender and delicious. The fresh bread and olive oil was also very simple and very very good. The service was attentive and just right. All in all, an outstanding meal and a great reason to return!

When you walk into the restaurant you get a great feeling. The menu has many traditional dishes and the waiters (no women) are accommodating. Portions are fairly large. The food, however, was average at best. Some of our party's dishes were overspiced, some were overcooked, and some were bland - in other words, inconsistent. It seems like the ingredients were not all that fresh, which may have added to the disappointment. Once was enough.

Nice place for larger Family or Friend lunches and dinner. Nice menu selection with traditional Greek fare as well as other choices. Everyone will find something delicious to eat. They have full bar along with beer, wine, sodas and desserts. Service is attentive and good. Prices are fair the food was quite good.

If you're craving some homemade food this is the place to go. I'm not from Greece but I was born in Europe and I must say that this restaurant reminds me of home especially since we're sharing some similar dishes. If you haven't been to The Great Greek yet I highly suggest you give it a try.

If you're looking for a fun filled evening with entertainment and good food..go to the Great Greek. The staff gets everyone up and dancing, greek style, the food is very good and it's just a nice place to spend an evening. Great place to take visitng friends and family.

The staff and the customers seem have a unique shared good time at this venerable spot in the valley. I have been going there for 30 years and am NEVER disappointed. A must for valley dining. Great atmosphere and great food.

Came across this on tip advisor by luck. Would recommend you book as it is obviously very popular with the locals as well as tourists and we were squeezed in on a table by the door. The staff were very attentive even though it was busy. When we were there some great Greek live music was being played which only added to the atmosphere, the waiters even danced to it at one point and one table got up to join. Food was delicious and warning over the portion size as usual. Lovely atmosphere, definitely worth a visit was a great evening. (Child's menu as well)

Very fun place. Only been

We were craving a greek meal, so did a quick internet search and landed on this restaurant. Unfortunately, I must have looked at the lunch menu (rather than dinner), and when we sat and looked at the menu, they did not have the menu items we had set our hearts on (again, based on the lunch menu vs dinner). Our waiter worked with us to pair a dinner plate from the menu, with some side items to create the perfect family sized gyro solution! We watched as amazing food was delivered around us (with two kids, we were going with the safer options), and when our plates arrived it was all devoured! The food was fresh, tasty, and the serving was perfect for our family! Our server was amazing and friendly and they worked to accommodate us. Great place!

Over rated and over priced. Poor service. Took us longer to calculate the bill than time took to eat. PS I've paid a tip for the singer not to sing!

For my 70th birthday celebration, we booked this place for 24 people - family and friends. We opted for their family-style dinner at $33 per person. They serve around 10 appetizers and three entrees. They accommodated our party in a room off to the side, near the Greek band. Food items I absolutely loved: the eggplant dip, the tzatziki, the salad, hummus, and the tender pieces of lamb. The items that were unacceptable were their falafel (way too burned and dry), their chicken souvlaki (over-cooked and dry), and their dip called caviar (very salty). They must have served a dozen items around the table in 40 minutes! The service was so quick, my head was spinning with all the choices and I was not getting a chance to enjoy each item. The best part of our gathering at this particular restaurant was the entertainment. The waiters and the band entertained us with dancing and acrobatic maneuvers which had us completely amused. They allowed our party to bring in a birthday cake from the outside; but not to bring in wine. Although with small parties, they allow wine with a corkage fee (our wine bill was tremendous). With all the food, wine and entertainment it probably cost $55+ per person.

Great Greek never disappointed me. Real greek music, food and drinks. Friendly people. You should see how the staff dance greek dances without missing your needs. Excellent time!

The best Greek food I've had.

Such a fun place - great food. Very loud and totally packed on weekends.

Opposite of the psychic eye in The Valley you will find this unassuming restaurant . We went for a early lunch and we're greeted kindly , we ordered and pretty much right away got our food. As a Greek myself I'm always critical when I see "authentic" geek announcements in Greek restaurants. Mostly they are over sauced and under seasoned . Here it was all simple in taste nothing complicated .. we had Greek spaghetti with scampi and I had a vegetarian platter which consisted pretty much of all the veggie appetizers . It was filing and comforting though it lacked basic seasoning . I'm sure the place is popular at night and the waiters were friendly enough. strangely it reminded me of the Greek diners on the east coast . I would come again if in the area as the food was clean and filling . Everyone's taste is different and as usual I recommend to try for yourself

Just about the best restaurant on Ventura Blvd. Fabaulous food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Try the Chicken Athenian (stuffed with spinach) or appetizier sampler. Best spanikopita anywhere -- outside of Greece. Their PITA is to die for Never had anything like it! LOUD and crazy on weekend nights with live Greek music and dancing waiters. Prefer it quiet and calm? Go Sat. or Sun. during the day. Anna & Nik will make you glad you're there. (Take-out is also exceptional if you want to impress someone at home!)

We dined here on a Saturday night with friends we had not seen in years. They are local to the restaurant's area, but had not been there before. We didn't know there would be live entertainment. Live entertainment is great, and really adds to the atmosphere, but...the volume was really excessive, and we had to shout across the table at each other to be heard. Of course, everyone else was doing that too. The atmosphere is exciting and fun - but deafening and exhausting. That said...the food was really, really good. I am of Greek descent, so there are always several dishes I use as a "test" of the quality of the food. The avgolemono soup was tasty but, to me, too chicken-y and could have used more lemon. The taramosalata was good, but not the best I have had. The bread was excellent. My husband's roast lamb was beautiful - good quality of meat, seasoned perfectly, and cooked exactly to medium rare. My spanakopita was very good - the phyllo was crispy and the spinach tender. Could have had a bit more feta in it for my taste. My friend's moussaka was great. All in all, I would definitely return for the food - on a day and time when there was no live entertainment. But it was clear that there were many people - couples and families - that enjoyed the raucous atmosphere.

Loved to see waiters form a line and performdo Greek dances while everyone clapped to the music. We shared a large platter of appetizers. Food was healthy and very tasty. It's a fun place to take children. Casual dining and warm hospitality

FUN!

I loved it,. The music, and Greek dancing... I ordered, the combination plate.... It was awesome, perfect... The had 2 wonderful desert s..... I would go here.... I love it.

The Great Greek is Hollywood Greek at its best - 8x10 headshots of famous Greeks in showbiz flank the restaurant, the waiters also dance, the music is authentic (usually a small band playing) and the food is wonderful. Try the combo platter, dolmathes, saganaki and lamb -all their food is served in generous portions! The restaurant usually gets busy between 7-9pm but that's the best time to catch a "Free show" while you dine. Let the waiters and staff entertain you!

We stopped here to try some Greek cuisine and we were very impressed. Originally from Chicago so we know what good food is and this place is great. We ordered spanikopita & saganaki as appetizers, then The Greek Sampler Platter & a lamb plate as our entrees, and baklava for dessert. Everything was superb. Service was also friendly and attentive. We went on a Saturday night and there were live musicians. The waiters dance in traditional Greek style all around the restaurant & they invited us to dance with them. OPA... We had a blast!

Always love the flavors, service and experience at this restaurant. I originally come from Chicago where we are spoiled with amazing Greek Food options all over the city however here in LA the options are quite minimal for some reason. The menu here offers all the traditional dishes one would find at a Greek establishment. My all time favorite is the Saganaki (flaming cheese) which is served exactly how it should be and simply tastes great. The bread is fresh and crispy and the wine selection is perfect with really inexpensive bottle or glass service. My main dish was the Grouper Santorini which was just excellent from texture to taste. I will be back often as I love their flavors and the authentic music playing in the background and occasional waiters dancing just helps take you to a new place. A must try if you haven't had the chance! $7 valet in front or if you are lucky you can find street parking nearby.

My wife and I had dinner with another couple on Monday night at The Great Greek. It has been a few years since we were there, and it had been 23 years since the other couple was there. We all had lamb dishes, two of us had the braised lamb over linguine with a tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese - it was just as I remembered it. The lamb was tender and flavorful and the tomato sauce had just the right amount of garlic. My wife had the roasted spring lamb with potatoes and vegetables. Very nice. The Village salad to start was fresh and very good with excellent feta cheese. My friend had a lemon soup that he said was very good. We shared a baklava for dessert with Greek coffee - excellent! It was Monday, so the band was not there and the place was relatively quiet - which was nice for conversation. Normally, it is much livelier. The wine list is small, but with a nice sampling of Greek wines. We opted for a Geyser Peak Cabernet to accompany the lamb and it did not disappoint. The Great Greek has a small markup on wines, which is very nice, indeed! This is a neighborhood (Sherman Oaks) classic and the food and service are reliably good - think more along the lines of Greek comfort food - not very adventurous, but well prepared.

Mediocre food, not well prepared. Forced group seating is good for large groups but not suited to small parties.

Their food is good with a nice selection. Nice pleasant décor. Service was good. All 3 of us liked our meals. We had the lamb and Greek meat balls which was a bit of a change. Prices were not too outragous. Was a nice stop and a good dinner for all of us.

8 of us after of day of Universal Studios reserved 4 adults and 4 teens. Good food and the dancing was very entertaining. I had been there before and just ordered off the menu, this time it was a set menu. Too much food, good variety, but I have my favorites and missed having them. I would definitely return, the food is good and the atmosphere and experience is definitely worth the stop.

Every time I come to eat here, it's experience gets better and better. From the wait staff, to the delicious food, and the amazing atmosphere, this is by far the best Greek restaurant that I've been to since moving to California 5 years ago!

My family and I took my mom here to celebrate Mother's Day. Upon our arrival, we were seated immediately (had reservations). The restaurant was nicely decorated for the occasion and live music entertained the patrons. Service was fantastic in spite of it being very busy. In terms of food, my husband ordered the salmon and I ordered the vegetarian pasta. The rest of our group shared meatballs, chicken, calamari, humus, eggplant, caviar, spanakopita, and other dishes. My husband and the group, loved their food!!! I, on the other hand, was not impressed with my pasta. In fact, I didn't like it at all, and didn't eat it. It is for this reason, that I give it 4 stars and not 5.

Small restaurant with live music & dancing waiters! We were here for dinner - excellent spanokopita & avgolemono soup. Cicken souvlaki & keftethes (Greek meatballs) were delicious as well. They serve the dolma or dolmathes warm & we did not like them since we much prefer them cold. Our waiter was somewhat inattentive & so busy dancing he forgot the Greek salad & then promptly forgot to take it off our bill until we pointed it out. For 3 of us with no alcoholic drinks the bill was $75. A fun place but with the music & dancing it can get very noisy. Parking is on the street.

good great food. go for the hummus.

It's a good substitute for the real thing...it will work!

Great Food, great dancing, really LOUD

This feels like family, the owner treats me so nice, and the music and dancing made for a very happy and joyful evening. I love the combination plate,

The Great Greek Restaurant offers excellent food served by a friendly and efficient staff. The general ambiance of the place is a big Greek party and it will not be surprising to see some people singing and dancing, Greek style. The restaurant itself is not that big so if you prefer a nice quiet place to chat, this is not where you should be. But we had such a good time enjoying the food and the festive atmosphere that we would not hesitate to visit the place again.

Friday night in Sherman Oaks this was the perfect spot to have dinner with our kids. Ages 11-23. Food is totally authentic and delicious and affordable. Great live music and entertainment. Fun for couples, families and friends. A must try trust me!

Awesome food, lamb and pastitsio are the best. Too loud on weekend nights prefer to do take out.

Saturday night meal w excellent presentation and preparation. Delicious - typical Greek dishes. This evening was very busy with music and dancing waiters as a group and individually. Happy atmosphere and just delightful. The valet at the French bistro next door will park your car but instead of the $6 for the French bistro you can just tip as you wish.....enjoy

used to be better..noisy and food just average now

This is my second time to The Great Greek. The first time was Romantic during the middle of the week with live entertainment. What a beautiful sidewalk restaurant as my wife and I watched fire trucks, buses and taxis zoom by as we ate. Wow, the second time I took my Japanese friend here for his birthday. It was a party atmosphere with another birthday party and a girls night out party to. It was happy times. My friend had the meatiest lamb chops that I ever seen. I had the Chicken Athenian stuffed with dark green spinach. They don't skimp on the food here! Ohhhh and Valet Parking is free.

Well-established Greek family restaurant. Great variety in the menu. Good value for the money. Very friendly staff. Convenient to shops and other restaurants on Ventura Blvd.

The ambiance of The Great Greek is Olive Garden chic. Noises from Ventura Blvd definitely bleed into the restaurant. The service was very attentive and friendly but then there were only 2 other tables when I was there. The bread is spectacular, pitas could be better. They have lots of Greek options for both carnivores and vegetarians. My biggest complaint is that the food could have been better. It wasn't bad but wasn't GREAT either. Check it out if you're in the hood and have a hankering for some hummus but don't expect the food to make you say Opa! For more pics and more detailed review, check out http://www.omnivorousvegetarian.com/?p=1329

The menu is of course focused on Greek food and everything is really well done. The place looks like it could use a little sprucing up. This would be my only criticism. The service was friendly, prompt and professional. Loved the Greek dishes. We had the sausage and the flaming cheese appetizers. I am especially fond on the cheese and have only seen the flaming version at one other restaurants, in Greektown Detroit. My husband had the shrimp and I had the lamb shank. Every thing was excellent.

The atmosphere, service and food were all top notch. We were in Santorini last year for our anniversary and L.A. this year, so decided to try this Greek restaurant. It was a superb.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. My friends and I had a really fantastic evening and will return soon!

4th of July 2013---not very full, BUT, very good. Avgolemono soup & spanakopita to start---GF had Shrimp a la Greque I had rack of baby lamb just simply good. Retsina for me, GF took a house Cab reasonable price-good. Espresso & Galaktobur dessert-----yummy Andreas server --good Good is good-ain't brain surgery

I have been remiss in revisiting this fabulous restaurant so had lunch a couple of weeks ago. And i was thinking..."why did it take me so long to come back"....absolutely loved the menu, wait staff was attentive and very helpful with choices, management took care with its customers and makes you feel welcome, AND I learned they still had music and dancing where you can participate. We definitely already have it on calendar for dinner in a week (their dinner menu is very appetizing indeed). Can't wait to come back and really take part of everything. Congrats Great Greek, you still have it!

Nice to go with a group of friends, waiters dance and make you dance , a bir slow bringing the food but worth to wait

This is not a quiet restaurant. A party atmosphere all evening. Fun servers ,who dance to traditional Greek music. Good service, food was just OK, for the price. Bring the whole family and enjoy.

Excellent and varied menu, the food was good and service excellent. Such a fun atmosphere.... Couldn't see a valet so parked around the corner - don't do that....we got a ticket! Worth a visit - have fun

Went to the Great Greek for the first time while visiting my Mom in the San Fernando Valley. I live near Tarpon Springs in Florida and have been to Greece several times so consider myself expert in Greek cuisine. This place is warm, friendly and joyful and the food exceeded my expectations across the board! The tzatziki was wonderful as well as their special eggplant dip. The pita bread was hot and fragrant. I chose the combination plate so I could taste everything and I'm glad I did - the moussaka was fluffy and mouthwatering; the spanakopita was flaky and so good; the dolmates were tender and moist - loved it all!! And for extra sensory pleasure, musicians played authentic Greek music continuously and at several points the waiters danced around the tables and even got ladies up from tables to join them!! This place is a treasure and I can't wait to get back to LA to go again!! As a fun side note CSI LA actually filmed there!! Do yourself a favor and GO!! On Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks!

We have frequented the Great Greek for many years, but tonight was one of the most horrible restaurant experiences ever. We came to the restaurant as a family of eight including two young kids. We ordered our appetizers and the kids meals at the same time, and they were delivered within a relatively quick period of time. When the waiter brought the last of the appetizers, he then took the order for the main courses for the six adults. One hour later, the waiter comes back and asks us if we want to see the desert menu....we told him no, we would like to see our entrees. Flustered, he said "I will call them out in the kitchen." Loosely translated, this means that he forgot to put the order in. He then has the gall to walk to our table and said that someone else would have to bring out the meals as he had to dance in the floor show. A few minutes later, what I assumed was a manager, brought out the food for the six adults. The food was not hot, with the vegetables being downright cold. When I complained to the manager, he tried to defend the kitchen by telling us that everything was cooked to order ... just about impossible when I ordered Pastitsio, which is made in a sheet pan like lasagna. When he saw that this defense was going nowhere, he shifted to the "I will comp your meal" routine. I declined his less than generous offer and asked for the bill so I could go somewhere to eat a hot meal. Two hours and fifteen wasted minutes.....bad service, cold food, rotten attitiude on management and waitstaff part. You will read many great reviews here, I had never had a bad meal at the Great Greek prior to this evening. But the lack of response on the waiter and managements's part will make me think twice about every going back....in reality, I probably will never go back.

Really enjoyed lunch at 'The Great Greek Restaurant.' The Spanakopita was the best I ever tasted. Also enjoyed a sampler of dips with warm pita bread. The baklava was also homemade. Delicious lunch!

I have spent many happy meals at this place, from birthdays to leaving parties to reunions. It's my favourite place to eat in LA for good quality food and atmosphere. The humus and pita are fresh and the Greek salad dressing is amazing. It's unpretentious and lively and great value for money. I highly recommend the lamb shank. I wish I still lived in LA for this restaurant alone.

First time I went I didn't order properly. Ordered off the main entree side of the menu and was very disappointed. Next time I went with someone who knew to just order from the appetizer side. All these great dips with delicious pita style bread made for a much more enjoyable meal.

I've been several times and have always had a great meal here. The food is excellent, apparently authentic Greek. They had celebrity photos on the wall and celebrity quotes in the menu. Madonna has been here and recommended it. No wonder from our visits. It feels family-run, like you're visiting a Greek family's house and they're personally cooking for you. All the food is delicious and the service has been great and accommodating. I haven't been to many Greek restaurants but this one sets the bar high.

Our experience at the Great Greek was all we had hoped for and more... from the delicious food from appetizer to dessert (try the meatballs and baklava) to the house wine (light and bountiful) to the great music and ambiance... where the waiters took people from their seats to dance a little to the greek music being played live... it was a good time had all around. Next time in LAX, Great Greek will be a must go again.

Based on all of the positive reviews, we must have gone on the dud of the year! Six family members gathered for a festive family birthday celebration. Music, dancing and a fun intended evening. No music tonight...no dancing tonight! Everyone order menu items that sounded really terrific but they all came to the table luke warm at best...nothing hot ! The reservation was made as a birthday celebration. The waiter had to have seen the birthday celebrant opening presents.....nothing presented to the table to celebrate. We all sang Happy Birthday to the eclectic candle on the table! As we were leaving, the waiter asked if he could bring a dish of ice cream...wha a terrible evening.......

There were 16 of us and they put us next to the band. No other choices. We couldn't hear the person next to you. If we sat elsewhere we would have had a good time. Perhaps a party of 2 or 4 would be okay but not a big group. food was good and the service was okay. Nothing great but interesting for a change. We kept waiting for a break for the band but rarely and not long enough, it ruined our time.

For those who have been to, want to go to, can't wait to return to Greece, this place will fill the void. Complimentary valet parking, wonderful menu, pleasant staff, moderate prices all contribute to a laid back, fun experience. Go and enjoy.

Perfect place for a real Greek cuisine. This place is a gold mine! Live entertainment, waiters dance in between the tables, bar and big menu with many choices for any taste or diet. This place is great for a fun night of music and good food!

Outstanding food each visit (3 times) and reasonable prices. This is a special place to take visitors. Entertainment on Saturday night was really fun. Greek dancing for all. Lamb dishes are especially good.

Wow, the restaurant on a Monday wasn't packed, but we were treated like royalty. We planned this get together last minute and couldn't have been happier. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were given consistent and friendly service. Great menu suggestions, and when we decided to order the "Greek Feast" for 2 and have 3 of us enjoy the meal they couldn't have been nicer. There was easily enough food for 4 or 5 people. Each course was different and well prepared. If you like Greek Food, this is your place. Having grown up with Greek neighbors from Greece I'm kind of picky and this is as good and authentic as you can get. The waiters (we had several) were all kind and attentive. We felt like our business mattered and we were thanked by all when we left. If you enjoy lamb, this is the place. Expertly prepared and rather addictive. The various appetizers that are served with the feast are all delicious, try them all. And of course, you can't come here without ordering the Saganaki...(flaming cheese w/cognac) seriously, no matter what else you order...order this...!!! We have been before, we will return again. It's not just for special occasions and if your eating light, plenty of salads and grilled fish are available as well.

World renowned. Been going there for 20 years

Ate here before catching a red eye flight home to New York from Burbank. It was Labor Day and this restaurant was open and running on all cylinders. Delicious and very fresh food. The Spanakopita appetizer is to die for. Everything else is wonderful and not extremely filling which was perfect before catching a trans-continental flight. The Baklava is also delicious and very light. Enjoy!

The live music in this place touches your soul. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the appetizer cheese Flambée with cognac. The staff is very friendly and energetic, they dance to the Greek music, and between two pirouettes they bring you your food with a smile.

We were staying in an Air BnB nearby and ended up eating here 3 out of 5 nights we were there. Food was delicious- huge portions, varied menu and classic Greek! Service from staff was fantastic. Would highly recommend a visit!

Extremely happy we found this place down the street from our hotel, fabulous authentic Greek food in a fun atmosphere! Keftheres, avelemeno and patitsio very good! Greek dancers and musicians as well who encourage the patrons to clap and dance along! Reasonable prices as well. One of the best dining experiences I've had!

The food and the welcome are authentic and the service is accomodating. My wife and I visit whenever we are in the area and need a Greek 'fix.' Over the years the menu has varied little and the food quality and presentation have remained high. The saganaki is a great appetizer or to finish a meal and the retsina Kourtaki adds authenticity to any meal. A place to vist as a Greek island in the San Fernando Valley. Our particylar favorite time is for a late lunch when the restaurant is less crowded and the valet parking is less busy - but not always present.

Marvellous! Food very good … came out very quickly though. Super atmosphere. Would visit again toilets quite disgusting unfortunately.

Noisy crowded uneven food but what the heck you came with you family or group to enjoy and laugh all the rest is just....well the rest

I dropped in by myself and thought it would be a quiet evening. Boy, was I wrong. They have a gentleman playing Greek music and that was very pleasant. But then...the waiters started dancing and the whole restaurant was into it. Mine could win every limbo contest around! OK - back to the food: I had two appetizers and they were delicious. I skipped dessert, but the table next to me was raving about theirs. I will definitely return and next time with friends!

The only Greek cooking better would be mine! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves- the service was good, the musician played and sang beautifully, and the waiters dancing was nice! Superb!

Visited here with a friend for dinner. We both ordered the spectacular Greek deluxe family-style feast which is a variety of their dishes to be shared. However, the Greek salad here was not the authentic type like you get in Greece without lettuce. The food here is good though, the service was so-so, even though it was not busy the day we visited. Our server actually failed to bring one of the included dishes, but since we were full we didn't complain. There is street parking, but could be difficult to find on a weekend.

Two adult daughters and a "senior citizen" mother were treated royally by the wonderful staff at The Great Greek. We had lunch at about 1:30 PM on the 5th of July, after much online research into food that an eccentric and sometimes cranky mom might deign to eat while in town visiting. I've always loved Greek food, and lately, tend more towards the vegetarian choices, and I was not disappointed. A World Cup match was playing on the TV tantalizingly just out of sight at the bar, and after I expressed an interest, one of the waiters would update me on the score each time he passed by, which felt "homey." The waitress was able to chat with me for a bit because the restaurant was fairly bereft of patrons at that hour, although later that evening, when we passed by, it was completely packed, with live Greek music in the corner stage. I chose the gyro sandwich, which was preceded by a perfect side salad (Greek, of course), and was delighted to find the combination of beef and lamb to be tender and flavorful. I might have liked it to have been a bit spicier. Mom was happy with some sort of chicken salad, from which she continued to pluck the cucumbers, which I ate before she made a pile of them. I lovingly savored a fine glass of retsina, and vowed to buy a bottle when I returned home. My sister enjoyed her souvlaki and roditis (a Greek rosé), and we were too full to contemplate any dessert. The bill for 3 people with 2 glasses of wine came to $60 before tip. Very reasonable. They normally offer valet parking for $5, but the valet guy hadn't shown up or some such, and it was no problem locating a metered spot 3 doors down.

SHAME on the owner and his 'establishment'... which is so far down the list of 'fine' that as long-time, 30 YEAR loyal customers we'll NO LONGER spend our time and $$ on this Owner's lack of care & quality. My family has LITERALLY been spending money at this restaurant for more than 35 years. During the pandemic, we made sure to pick up a to-go order at least once a month, sometimes twice a week. It's adequate- your standard Mediterranean fare. There's nothing that qualifies as 'gourmet', or 'fine dining'. The place was built late 60's, and HAS NOT BEEN RENOVATED SINCE. (There is for example STILL one toilet for ladies... in a shabby cabin-like latrine circa 1971) Be that as it may, we went for the 'charm' that used to come with the food. The Owner (a now-unpleasant man who acts as if he's doing you a favor if he deigns to take your order) has become so ENTITLED by once being 'the best Greek food in the San Fernando Valley' that he practically dismisses you if you are not a party of 20 (all Greek families, there to eat, drink, celebrate, and dance to the overpowering, often unpleasant live Greek music - a cacophony that literally is so loud you cannot hear your dining partner speak) This tonight was EXACTLY how things went down, and we will be posting this on every Dining Review site on the internet tonight. We walked in at 5 PM. Restaurant is COMPLETELY EMPTY. Owner is slumped on a bar stool. Host, a tall thin, unfriendly dude with a ponytail, look at me as if I were trying to sell them a vacuum cleaner. A beat, and the Owner says, 'Yes?' Now - I HAVE ORDERED FROM BOTH OF THESE HUMANS many many many times. But because I'm dressed up I guess they were thrown for a moment. I ask if it would be possible to treat my friend to a birthday dinner there tonight, or if they're booked at 5 PM to capacity. That's EXACTLY what I asked. The owner condescendingly says, "We are completely booked tonight until 9 PM". Now, remember: I've been ordering from this guy and his joint for years. I know the drill. The place is empty until 6 PM, when folk start to show up. I stare at the COMPLETELY EMPTY dining room and say: 'No problem, we can go to the sushi pace across the street, then.'. A stand off. He says, 'Well, if you cam promise you and your guest will be out of here by 6:30..." WHAT THE F-??!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY?! Yeah. That's this genius Owner's treatment of one who's spent THOUSANDS at his over-the-hill cafe. I stare at him. The 'host' has turned his back - despite my having tipped him hundreds over the years in tips - and the Owner then waves at a table behind him (a 2-top right by the door) and says, 'You can sit there. I can give you a little more time here,..' Now, again: THE RESTAURANT IS 100% EMPTY. I'm dressed up, hair and makeup so 'classy' that apparently they didn't recognize the doctor they've seen show up in scrubs and a ponytail for years grabbing take-out...and I've spent again thousands of dollars at this place... So after I'm seated, what does the owner do?? Does he ask me how my day was, given there's NO ONE ELSE in his restaurant? Does he offer me a glass of water? Or have a server come over to help me...?? NO. He goes back to a barstool doing NOTHING, ignores me, and I have to wave at a busman 10 feet away doing NOTHING for water. By 6 PM a few diners had shown up. We order $150 of food and bev, and are more than happy to leave by 7 as the 'band' starts up and the place begins to fill. As I leave, I look at the owner - STILL ON HIS BARSTOOL. I look at the Host. NEITHER THANKS ME FOR DINING THERE, or ASKS HOW THINGS ARE, or even wishes me good night. My friend - the birthday girl - laughs and says "THANKS, we'll be celebrating next door with dessert and champagne!" The Owner glances up. The Host looks a combination of embarrassed and surprised. Neither of them say anything. SHAME ON YOU. DO NOT spend your hard-earned $$ here! There are HUNDREDS of better restaurants - and ones that actually treat you like a customer, they appreciate!! DO NOT DINE HERE.

Went for dinner with my family, last Friday. It is not our first time here, and we always happy to come back. Great food, great ambiance, great service. The singer is awesome, and everybody is dancing, including the servers. Great restaurant, if you are a happy person, who loves Greek music (who doesn't...?) . Don't miss that.

I love the Great Greek. It's just around the corner, so I eat there fairly often. A great place for a quiet lunch. Evenings at the Great Greek can get a bit rowdy and festive, with live bouzouki music and dancing waiters. Fun, yes. Quiet and romantic, no. The menu is traditional, classic Greek fare. Start with the saganaki, a delicious, salty cheese that's doused with lemon liqeur and ignited at your table. Opa! Heaven on earth with the warm pita. Try the pastitso appetizer, the avgolemono soup, and the lamb or chicken souvlaki. I also recommend the platters if you're in the mood to sample and share. The Great Greek has a full bar and a great wine list. I always ask for a dry Greek red, and I'm never disappointed.

In a city where every restaurant Tries So Hard to be authentic, here is a place that has been thriving in its authenticity of solid Greek food served with passion and an atmosphere that (pardon the expression) OUZOs real Greek to the point where you imagine you are on a vacation in GREECE! from the minute you walk thru the door you realize this is going to be special. The personal service from our most amicable waiter confirms your suspicion...and from there it just gets better and better...the sauted Octopus...the flaming cheese saganaki with grilled pita bread...the accommodation of martini with a side of feta cheese stuffed olives...the spiced lamb meat ball pasta...the greek sampler plate...etc. etc. etc. the LIVE music duo coupled with dancing waiters AND PATRONS in the aisles...it just doesn't bet better than this!

The souflakis are the best! Lamb is really tasty too, and so are the appetizers. Service is exceptional!!

This charming restaurant on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks offers delicious, fresh food in an authentic-feeling atmosphere with terrific polite service and live entertainment on weekend evenings. I've taken family and friends and even had business lunches there. Everyone raves about this place. Everything we've had there has been prepared to our specifications - and we're picky in our food preparation. When you sit down, you get wonderfully crunchy bread with olive oil. For lunch, you get a wide selection of salads and sandwiches. We especially like the tsatziki and dolmades. But, whether for lunch or dinner, you have to try the lemon soup - it's out of this world. And, prices are very reasonable!

Went here during our stay in Los Angeles for dinner one night and wished we could have gone back for more! Atmosphere very much like the cafes/restaurants in Greece with the entertainment. Food was incredible. Lamb was outstanding as were the Grape Leaves. Greek wine selection very impressive. Would want to go back to that area just for the food!

Had dinner here on a week night early as we had to a flight to catch at the burbank airport. We had a good table by the window. We ordered the grilled octopus and it was prepared in a way I have not had it before . It was tender and tasty. We also had the saganaki and it was delicious. The manager recommended the roast lamb which I ordered and my wife ordered the keftathakia and pasta. My lamb was lean and tender. only thing that would have improved it was some gravy from the lamb like my Mom would cook it. My wife enjoyed her meal. Portions were generous. We were too full for dessert. If we stayed past 7 we could have heard the live music but we had a flight to catch. If I ever have to go to Sherman Oaks again I would eat lunch or dinner here.

The "world famous" Great Greek is located next to the "World Famous" liquor store on "World Famous" Ventura Boulevard in "World Famous" Studio City. Perhaps they're all too famous for their own good, because the Great Greek is merely good Greek food. Upside: easy street parking, really nice service, and live greek music. Huge portions and fairly reasonable prices, and the salads are very tasty. Downside: some of the food tasted like it was cooked in one of those large cafeteria pans that afternoon and was sitting in a steam table waiting for you to order it. Nothing really came across as particularly fresh and tasty, which is odd because greek food is typically really delicious. The salad was good, but you have to pay extra for pita bread to enjoy the hummus and other saucy specialties. We ended up walking out very full, but not particularly happy, so I doubt we'd ever go back. However, if you love a lot of food and favor vegetarian options, this might be a good place for you. Everyone is very nice there, but there was nothing about the food that would entice me to return.

The owners, food and atmosphere are genuinely Greek! Music, dancing too! Thavma!

Began with babaganoish and hummus. The pita bread was hot and fresh. The lamb kabobs with rice and vegetables was very tasty. The chicken kabobs were also very well made. The blue Mediterranean salad was great. My salmon with steamed vegetables was equally as good. I would recommend this restaurant when you are in Sherman Oaks, California.

Very messy, plates look all the same, covered with "spices", all look the same at every table... Wanted to go away immediately, but hoped for the better... Greasy, burnt to the extreme. Somebody was taking shower! in the men's restroom!!! behind the curtain, Another "jewel" covered by "Greek" cuisine. Not to offend anyone, but on Ventura you must be very careful if you are not a fan of this greasy "pseudo" stuff... Disgusting food, nice vibe, though. Perhaps, the guys who play live music and also low lighting kinda cover it all... But, just try the food and that's it. Never again.

Loved it. I've never had Greek food and I happen to be in town with a friend that use to live near this place. She said I would love it and she was spot on. She went on and on about the pita bread service and it lived up to her wonderful memories. The salad was refreshing, a dressing I would love to have the recipe for! I had the Moussaka. It was different from anything I'm use to and i throughly enjoyed the entire plate. My friend had the vegetarian plate. It had many different things to sample. I enjoyed it all. The staff was so sweet and attentive. Great first experience with Greek food. I was so eager to sample our food I didn't get any pictures!
FABulous dinner
Have been twice and on both occasions was totally thrilled with our meals--the Flaming Saganaki is marvelous and the tzaziki the best I've had this side of Rhodes. Love the Greek music playing in the background...we very much looking forward to our next dinner there and hope to make it on a Friday evening so we can enjoy the entertainment. FABULOUS indeed!
