When you don't want to be in another loud, annoying casino, walk down to The Griffin for a great time. The drinks are affordable, the staff is extremely friendly, and when they have it, the music venue is a great place to hear a local band.

I had been to The Griffin twice before and found it very enjoyable. To me, they had the best bartenders in Vegas, so good in fact, that I made a special trip from the strip to have my favorite drink which was made perfectly each time before. The only problem was this time, I was not allowed in because I had a team shirt on. At first I thought the door guard was kidding, thinking he was not a fan of my team, but he was dead serious (and rude). There is a little sign on the inside which has a laundry list of no-nos which I had no idea existed - IN VEGAS!! I am a clean cut, professional in my 50s and go to Vegas frequently on business. I did not deserve to be refused entrance and I will not be back. I found the Long Bar in the D has excellent bartenders as well and that's where I will be going from now on.

The griffin is nice and close while staying on Fremont place. It's a hole in the wall style joint with good beer and atmosphere. I prefer places with a view but no complaints about this place! Lots of other cool places nearby

This is a music venue and bar, and a pretty interesting building as well, if your looking for an interesting night look no further.

Stopped in for a drink at the recommendation of a local. It felt like you were underground the minute you walked in. Interesting bar with an interesting atmosphere. Just go in..you won't regret it.

I spotted a guy taking a picture of one of the adjacent buildings and asked him what was picture worthy there. It turns out he was a semi-local guy on a tour of historic Vegas sites and the storefront there is the oldest in LV. We chatted him up for a while and then we all went to The Griffin for a few drinks. It's a nice enough place, if not a bit over-priced and slightly too dim. They have a good selection of interesting beers and top-shelf booze. The big guys at the door kept us from taking some of our stuff in with us but we got it all back on the way out. The bathroom attendant recommended some cologne that it turned out everyone else hated. Aside from that, we had a good time.

Great little bar that's been around for a while now. I love this place. Drinks are not watered down. Service is always excellent!

The Griffin is a great bar to just stop by and grab a couple on not too expensive drinks. A lot of locals head there during the week, and a lot of tourists on the weekends. It's definitely one of the better bars on Freemont, and one of the most well known.

Very chill spot to hangout! Great atmosphere too.. Just didn't like one of the bartenders.. Over all, had a good time.

Went in early and grabbed a drink to check it out! Went by later that night and the place was packed! Good times were rolling!

We loved the atmosphere and vibe in this place. Very different from others we experienced in Vegas. We felt like we were in an underground bar. The setting was unique and different. Bartender was friendly and helpful. Good variety of drinks as well. They have a room in the back where a show was going on. For that there were separate tickets but we enjoyed the bar and fireplaces.

This small bar is friendly. A nice place to unwind and relax after a busy day. Drinks are good and reasonably priced during happy hour.

Baggy pants down past your crotch, tats, body pierciengs, bling jewelry and sideways baseball caps are OK but you gotta have sleeves. Give me a break! What is it with freakin bouncers that like to put their hands on you? Why? Well the bouncer at the door was too busy talking to a couple of females to notice me going in, but the one inside came up and put his hands on me because I wasn't wearing sleeves? I was dressed better than anyoune else in there as far as I could tell. He's lucky I didn't cold cock him but I didn't feel like making an issue of it at the time. I,ve seen better security at Chucky Cheese. It's down across from the El Cortez and believe me, that area hasn't been cleaned up as much as some would try to have you believe. An unruly crowd hangs out in front of this place. My wife wouldn't walk past there. Now, I'm not some old fart, I play guitar in a hard rock band. So, trust me. It's OK for a punk bar, that is if you're a punk. Don't bother.

Read on the internet you could get cheap beer here. So when we asked the prices and where told $9 a drink we were surprised. We asked about cheap drinks as advertised on the Internet and was told this was wrong. Beer that bad we couldn't drink it.

After trying to get into one of the Mega Clubs on the strip we wanted to see where the locals hung out. This place was recommended to us by our waitress. It's downtown which could be a pain to get to if you're staying on the strip. Looking at the place from the outside you don't know what to expect. First positives were the lack of a cover charge and a friendly doorman. Once you walk in the first thing you notice is the decor. It looks like a plush medieval dungeon. There is concrete fashioned to look like stone walls with arches, a fireplace is located in the middle of the room, and other things to add to ambiance. As for the essentials there is plenty of seating in the place for size it is. There are booths along the walls and couches in middle. Drink prices I would consider fairly average (pint of hoegarden was $5 and a grey goose & tonic was $6). The bar runs almost the length of the first room and I never had a problem getting a drink The music in the first room is played off a jukebox that has a great selection of indie, alt, and other great music. There is a second room with a dance floor that has couches along the walls and a dj spinning an eclectic mix of hip hop, 80s and reggae. If I had to describe the crowd it would be scensters, locals, and tourist who heard about this place by word of mouth. There was no dress code from what I could tell but people did put effort into what they were wearing. The people I talked were very friendly and i would say unless you're a total introvert striking up a conversation here is fairly easy. This was by far the best lounge/bar that I went to while i was in vegas. There is another favorable review of this place that some how wound under restaurants.

Great hipster dive bar friendly to any crowd. Nice place to get away or hide out from the noise and bustle of downtown.

I get that you want dress codes but you need some wiggle room. This is Vegas. I was wearing a sequin outfit consisting of pants and a bomber jacket. The outfit had the attention of all of Fremont street. When we arrived the guys at the door loved us and carded us but all of the sudden the one guy didn't find my attire right for the club and denied us access. – We are talking about an outfit that was both festive and cool, not showing skin or in any other way being inappropriate. I was turning heads and getting compliments all the way down Fremont Street. I will never understand how a badly fitted suit or a some simple short dress can get you into a club, but when you've actually made an effort and arrive in a couture outfit that will most certainly get the party started, you get denied access. I can only assume this place must be quite boring. I wouldn't want to try again.

We ended up in the Griffin two nights in a row (Drinks only), it had a great vibe and a real mix of clientele from bikers to tattooed rockers to 50’s housewife look-a-likes. It was very dark and lit by candles, service was swift and the drinks where cheap. On the Friday when we were there a back room was open and people were dancing to mad house music. I’m not sure what the door policy was, we just walked in both nights but we did see some people get stopped by the doorman. This was the best proper bar we went to (i.e. not attached to a Casino). Great vibe.

this isnt necessarily the nicest looking place, but freemont street and the businesses on it are so much more interesting and entertaining than the rest of the vegas experience.

I always visit the Griffin when I visit Vegas, a great bar, great atmosphere and great drinks, what more can you ask for? If any thing the drinks are mixed a little strong, but I wouldn't hold that against them! Usually packed, noisy, great fun. I have always found the bar staff friendly and helpful, and would not hesitate to recommend this bar to anyone looking for a change from the casino bars.

This place is right of Fremont and is kind of hidden except they have huge cool neons outside. Inside is really cool seating around these big fireplaces. It has a cool vaulted ceiling. Plus a back bar with a DJ. Great spot, not too touristy.

Very quiet when I got there at around 8pm, ok not that late but still... not a lot going on... good selection of beers. Oh yeah, I had forgotten one can smoke in Vegas’ bars... would probably have to come back on a Friday night after 10pm to check it out again...

I took a walk down Fremont Street with a friend for the first time in at least 15 years (and I live in Las Vegas) and we stopped at The Griffin for a beer. I was extremely surprised by the establishment. It is a nice change from the typical bar scene in Las Vegas let a lone the casino. The beer selection was good and I thought the prices were reasonable. We were able to sit at the bar, so service was not an issue. The place has a nice atmosphere, dark wood, brick and two fire places. I will recommend this bar to all my friends and look forward to my next visit.

It's dark and the interior is like a cool old Victorian-era mansion meets castle. Good rock and roll jukebox and the happy hour (just from 5-6) is very cheap. But whenever you're there, the bartenders are very friendly and they pour the deepest drinks around. If you're lucky, there might be a little band in the back, starting at ten, with no cover. There was a swing/rockabilly band on a recent Wednesday night. All in all, just a cool place.

Stopped here because they were friendly at door.Wanted to get feel of the new downtown scene so we stopped here, very diversified crowd. They do have some reasonable priced cocktails but you must ask,the bartender was very nice at letting us know.Plenty of seating on couches and chairs.

Was directed here while visiting and was told it’s a locals hangout. Plenty of security at entrance checking IDs. Very cool dungeon vibe with gas fire pit in the middle. Drinks and prices were decent. Exceptionally pretty bartender. Will definitely stop in again next trip.

No food, no gambling, great drinks selection and jukebox. What more do you need in a bar? Bloody Marys are excellent and a good beer menu too.

Stopped here for some drinks. The bartender was helpful and attentive. I was amazed that they had Pappy Van Winkle since I'm an avid Bourbon drinker. Good tunes playing in the background. Nice place to have a drink and hangout.

This looks like an old cathedral inside and there is a long bar and lots of little seating areas where 6-8 friends could hang and stretch out. The drinks are not cheap, but they're not out of line with what a lot of local places are charging these days. They had some cool liquors and beers. I had a nice chilled cider moonshine poured from a mason jar. We were really happy they allow smoking in there, too. The place is big enough with really high ceilings so the smoke doesn't seem to linger in the air at all.

A local recommended it and that is all we saw: locals drinking good beer. A nice atmosphere with fire and big couches. Highly recommended! They have proper beers, and at decent prices. The outside is a bit of but inside it is really atmospheric. No tourists really, and just off Fremont St, so not badly located

Such a lovely pub, run by lovely people. Atmosphere is brilliant, every one is friendly and approachable. The pub is lovely and cosy. have been back plenty of times and will continue to go back.

Great place to meet up with friends or just pull up to the bar for a drink. Good menu of liquor and beer and very welcoming overall.

an amazing bar. Great drinks, awesome vibe. no poker machines. just a great place. I would recommend the weekends so you can dance.

Some 'seedy' places downtown are fun. It was only 9pm but this place was empty and had a creepy feel beyond being dark. Bartender had little to no personality and took too long to pour 2 neat drinks and 3 beers!

I've been to The Griffin quite a few times and each time is a different (awesome) experience. I especially like going on a mid-week afternoon when it's less crowded and I can get a spot by one of the fireplaces. I'm trying to work my way through their amazing selection of beers, a task I fear I will never complete as the list is extensive. My wife is partial to the Chocolate Martini, which is huge, delicious and addicting. The Griffin is one of my favorite places to hang out and have some fun in Las Vegas. I've been there on weekend nights when it's so packed with the Vegas hipster elite you can barely make your way to the restrooms, and on weekday afternoons when it is somehow miraculously transformed into a funky, divey, chill hangout for any and all who appreciate an exceptionally unique and original bar with a cozy 'castle dungeon' feel. Busy or not I always have a good time at The Griffin. The bartenders tend to be 20 something, tattooed and pierced, mostly bearded and surprisingly talented mixologists, During slower times the staff is friendly and talkative. When it's busy they are all business, and good at keeping things moving at a breathtaking pace. The music is often loud, some people might think it's too loud. The room can get a little smoky at times (smoking is allowed) and you may be sharing a bench or a table with 'perfect' strangers. If all of that sounds OK then this is your bar. If you can't handle crowds and noise, you probably want to find a calmer, quieter place that better suits your tastes. The Griffin is it's own place. It's a no apologies, unique and original bar that sticks to exactly what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else. I recommend you try it at least once and see if it speaks to you the same way it does to me. If it does you may end up with a new favorite spot like I have. If not, no worries, Vegas is teaming with plastic, 'chrome and glass' drinking establishments for the more conservative.

this is a real find at fremont. cool, trendy and comfortable all at teh same time. the drinks are strong and relatively cheap. the staff where friendly. there are fires around to provide heat and light as it is rather dark.

A really great, laid back bar. Great drink choices, good jukebox selections, and if you can meet up with Natalie, you'll have a great time. She's one of the Best bartenders in town

Cool lounge and very packed on the weekends. Great music and dancing. It can be hard to find seating though but definitely worth the effort to hang out and have a few drinks for a bit.

The Griffin on Freemont was recommended for a nice casual spot to grab a drink. Located near the Freemont Street experience, the Griffin is a great place to sit and relax and have a drink. Nice fireplaces inside add to a cozy feel.

If you go downtown you must make sure you stop off at the Griffin. It's like a typical London bar - you know the types that ate under the railways with the brick arched roofs. There are fire pits and candles, a great duke box with Vaccines and the likes of Arcade Fire, Pulp, Blur etc on and the overall vibe is just funky monkey. The drinks are reasonably priced and you can even hear yourself talk - imagine that in Vegas!!

Having a drink here was so much fun - I felt like I was in a pub in Middle Earth! Lots of brick, wood, fireplaces, and candlelight. Completely loved the vibe! Drinks are strong.

We were recommended this place by the staff in the Bunkhouse Saloon down the road (another great place, especially if you like live music). It is just down from the start of the Fremont Street experience light canopy area. The East side of the South LV Blvd is a really great street to walk down with many bars and cafes/restaurants, let alone the excellent Container Park. The Griffin is a very dark, atmospheric place with dark bricks and a fireplace and arched ceilings inside. The bar is very well stocked with beers and liquors and you can get many cocktails here too made by the knowledgeable and friendly staff. Definitely worth popping into and making a good pub crawl of this whole area, on both sides of this side of Fremont St.

The Griffin is another Fremont spot to head to when you can't bear the sound of slots for one more minute. Dark paneled walls and booths invite. When I was undecided about what to order, the staff asked what I like and created a lovely citrusy pear liqueur based drink for me.

One of the bouncers was very unprofessional and clueless. He has no clue what a real ID looks like. Never ever go to this bar. Not worth your time or money!

Interesting decor with false brick cathedral ceilings throughout. The afternoon we were there, the female bartender didn't like being disturbed as she was chatting with friends. After a long wait with only a half-dozen other patrons, two pedestrian draft beers and a glass of mediocre wine came to $26 during happy hour -- which apparently is limited to stuff people don't drink. If you want to feel out of place, this is the place to go.

I was expecting a little more from the Griffin. The inside is cavernous and dark and is a decent place to stop and have a drink when exploring Fremont street but the service is nearly non-existent and the drink prices are a little steep for Fremont street.

I'm not sure why there's a restaurant rating option for this place, I have no idea if they have a kitchen or not. What I do know is, it is one of the coolest bars anywhere. The decor is totally dungeon, but not in a scary way. It's fantastic how they have preserved this place as huge hotels were constructed around it. I usually try to stay out of Vegas on the weekends, I imagine this place is nuts. On any given weeknight, it's hipsters and groups of younger people. I don't quite agree with the comment that if you are over 50 you shouldn't go there, they are very welcoming and not snotty or douchey like 99% of the hotel clubs on the Strip. No fussy cocktails, just big, tattooed, bearded guys and cute biker looking chicks and a great ambience.

Awesome atmosphere; candles and two fireplaces. Friendly bartenders and clients. Great selection of tap beer!! Highly recommended!!

Was recommended this place from a barman at Downtown Cocktail Bar (also amazing) and he was right. Yes it looks uninviting from the outside but inside was great. It was dark but it had great atmosphere with knowledgeable bartenders. Prices were reasonable too. Definitely worth a visit 👍🏼

This bar is right off fremont street and is really quite different from everywhere around it. It's dark and quiet but rather relaxing with fireplaces and candles everywhere. There were only 1-2 bartenders but we were quickly served with excellent drinks. Recommend it, if you need a quiet place to hang out and catch up.

We stopped in for a quick couple of beers here and to be fair it's a nice place. The bar itself is in a vaulted brick style with lots of little real flame burners for light which gives it a unique medeival feeling. Drinks were ok prices. Worth a stop for a quick one when you are at freemont street.

I love this place for the cool atmosphere, different types of music and genres and variety of drinks. During the week this place is very chill and relaxed and usually plays rock music. You will have a casual environment, no problem finding a table, or getting served. On the weekends it turns into this crazy party place, inside being dark lit and mixed with music types, but they also have a back room where they change the music on the weekends. Make sure when you go up to the bar on the weekends you have your money out, order ready and you have to be a bit aggressive usually to be served. So the Griffin is like 2 completely different atmospheres in one. I think that is a really great feature of this place. This is also a heavily locals place. Not many tourists seem to end up in here. So keep that in mind if you are trying to hangout with locals or just be in a less touristy establishment. Overall this is a great place, especially on week nights to catch up with friends or to go after a date to relax and hangout in a casual environment. I love the fireplaces in winter too! They add such character to the place.

A real pub with Ale on tap where you can find some locals and not only tourists. The music was good and the dance floor packed.

This place is a cool and cheap place to hang out. A breeding ground for the cool. Every weekend they open the back room and fill it with dancing people and cool drinks. The place can get a little packed, but it still is a fun place to go, especially down town.

Music wasn't my preference, but the atmosphere was laid back and chill, we enjoyed it. We did however over dress for the location.

cool little, darkly lit bar with a great jukebox. Cool seating with a firepit (yes, even in the summer!)

This reminds me of my college bar days. Great atmosphere with a ton of people just drinking and hanging out. Nothing too crazy. The lit fires are awesome but you will leave smelling like a campfire.

Wasn't as good as many of the reviews I had read before visiting. It is funky and has minimal lighting, but if you are in the area then the Commonwealth is a better bar.

Love this bar, its hippy, hipster, downtowner raw with a divey feel. I love the place, some will NOT, small and cosy for a date or a small group. Dark in there and dugeon friendly, but fun. Under 40 go, over 50 dont go!

Arrived to a very busy pub, but shown to a table by a friendly member of staff. Well varied menu, however don’t come if you’re in a hurry as we had to wait 50 minutes for our meals! Almond Pesto Pasta lacked flavour and portion size was small. Steak was cooked well, but was served cold. Overall, not a great visit.

I have been coming to the Griffin for 8 years and it's always a stop whenever we are in Vegas. It's quaint and comfortable with 2 fire pits inside the bar and plenty of comfortable seats. It gets busy on the weekend but we often find ourselves starting and finishing our night at the Griffin. The staff is knowledgeable, with a great tap list... Sam is terrific and the Griffin is lucky to have someone behind the bar that makes the best Old Fashioned I have ever had! You'll love to stop here after a chaotic day on the strip.

want to sit in a cozy place, not just at a bar, then go there, they have little fireplaces, and comfortable seating.

I just popped in and had a drink here. Fun to sit by the indoor fire pit. There is a back room with a DJ and dancing. I just felt a little out of place- this was obviously a hipster hang out, and I am a man in his 50's. Still fun to experience.

Warm, welcoming with solid bar staff who can knock up a mean old fashioned and happily recommend other great bars in the city

One of my favorite places in Vegas -- totally local scene, hip ambiance, and fun times. If you want to experience Vegas without all of the glitz of the Strip, and just chill with authentic folks, check this place out.

I went to this bar as part of a bar crawl for a friend's party. The Griffin was the first bar on the route and I really enjoyed it. We were there about 8:00pm so there were only about 5 other people in the bar. It isn't one of the big fancy bars like on the strip but it's still a nice and relaxing atmosphere. The booths were leather with a few brick fireplaces and the the lighting was very low. Drinks were a reasonable price (NOT the $15 that you are stuck with on the strip). My glass of Chardonnay was $8.65. We were only here about 20 minutes and I would have liked to stay longer. I'm not sure how it is later in the night but at least early in the night it was very enjoyable!

What an awesome bar. Walked in and the Sex Pistols was blasting and that is an immediate good sign for me. Dark environment with a couple of cool fire pits inside. The A/C was blasting so the fire pits actually were a nice vibe in the bar. Drinks were good and priced right. Great bartender and amazing environment

This dark and moody bar is a great find. We went early on in the evening so was a little quiet but the cocktails were good as was the jukebox. Pop in for a drink. Remember to take ID no matter how old you are,

This is a surprising find on Fremont. It's just for drinks but well worth the visit if you are downtown. The decor will impress you, as well as the comfortable areas inside the business. Go on in, nobody bites.

This is a hidden gem on Fremont street! The inside is nice and has an old world feel. Fireplaces keep The Griffen cozy and warm. The drinks are reasonably priced and strong. Highly recommend!

Pure class. Excellent drinks and service. Good value. Lovely atmosphere. By far better than anything on the Strip and is a sign of the downtown revival.

Stumbled on the Griffin while walking along Freemont St. Really great vibe and atmosphere. Bar staff are very friendly and helpful. Good mix of people. Drinks are good, cocktails excellent. Get a cool t-shirt of a griffin and a unicorn! Go visit these guys!

Stopped in here for one beer before Mike Hammer and landed up almost missing the show! Very little lighting in here, fireplaces going, very quaint and different - we sat up at the bar and met people from Scotland and another local person and had a blast! The bartender was super friendly and it was happy hour with $1 beer specials! Old Vegas is the place to be!

Nice atmosphere and good selection of brews, private room in back small but good, had band and over 50 people, service was great

I'm in the industry. There are a lot of places to get a drink in this city. This is a good bar. Excellent service, great selection. Cool atmosphere. Sorry I couldn't stay for the band this time. This is a bar. A good bar. Specials chasers and those who require blenders please stay away. This is a good bar.

We stopped by and had a few cocktails. Excellent service. This is nice place on Fremont St. Go during Happy Hour. I shall return!

This bar is about as old-school Vegas that you can find. The drinks are cheap and the bartenders are very friendly. It has a great charm and atmosphere about it. A great place for a quick shot or sipping cocktails the entire evening.

Greeted with a warm welcome. Service was great and the drinks were reasonably priced. Quirky atmosphere which I liked. Will definitely be back on my next trip to Vegas.

Went here with a friend. Met some fun people, had great drinks and enjoyed an evening of warmth by a fire pit as it was cold in Las Vegas if you can believe that. I didn't order any food, but they're were multiple beer opportunities plus plenty of cocktail options. The bartenders are great and they have live music on Wednesday nights. I will plan to go back again when in Vegas.

These are the types of bars that my wife and I adore. Small, dimly lit, without making it had to see the drink menu. Drinks were expertly mixed, and bartenders know their stuff. Great place to get a proper cocktail.

We found this place by mistake, but it was dark, swanky, and cool in the heat of the day. Had a great drink and enjoyed the atmosphere and other patrons. A fun place to stop in.

Good drinking bar for those who like good drinking bars. Dark, more dark and darker still, its interior is either straight from the 1970s - I described in as "the sort of bar one could see in the show 'Charlie's Angels' during the Farrah Fawcett era" - or constructed to look like such. Either way, it's a huff of smokey air in the pre-fab, "let's have consumer-driven fun" world of Las Vegas. The enclosed, circular fireplace in the center of the first room is a nice touch and, along with the votive candles on the tables, a good source of light. If you're anti-hipster (whether patron or staff), this probably isn't the place for you, since a chunk of the crowd and the workers are dressed in dark clothing and sneaker-shod, have varying degrees of body art, slouch, smoke and possess a disaffected stare. Like Don't Tell Mama, this place is much easier to access if you start early (around 8 or 9 p.m.), especially on the weekend. While there are available street spots in this part of downtown, many of the reviews mention using a pay lot; this wasn't an issue for us, as we were staying at the El Cortez, just down the street and the hotel had ample parking in its structure. Please note that there was a supposed credit card minimum when we were in on Saturday, 5/19/12, which was $15, so my friend bought a shot. The crowd seemed neither friendly nor unfriendly and the noise level was low enough to accommodate conversation (again, remember we were here between 9 and 10 p.m. on a Saturday). Good jukebox with indie stuff - big surprise! - and no cover make this a no-brainer, especially for someone who opts for a downtown hotel stay instead of the strip. Remember to venture past the first room, especially if the bar is crowded, because this seems to be where the action is on busy nights.

Tucked all the way down towards the East end of Fremont Street is the Griffin. It's very smoky, I cannot imagine how they manage to still smoke in there, but it's a fact. It's also extremely noisy: loud, Barbarian music that is deafening. Now that you know the Cons, here are the Pros: excellent, and I mean excellent selection of drinks. I found both my number two single Malt and my number one Russian Vodka available and dispensed very generously. Prices are at NYC level, but hey, it's worth it! I would have rated them VERY GOOD if it weren't for the abysmally loud music

came in for a drink while waiting for a dinner reservation. the bartender was awesome, and the drinks were perfect.

It's positively Medieval!! Whoever decided to go all "Game of Thrones Dungeon" when designing this place earned their money. It's actually a bit creepy when you first walk in. It's also very dark, especially coming in from the daylight. You expect to hear chains clanking and screams of torture, but instead, you get fairly obscure 70's and 80's punk. Not my favorite genre, but it works very well in the atmosphere. We only stayed for a couple drinks, and we were off. It is definitely worth a visit when in Old Vegas!

Finally got to check this place out. I have wanted to try one of their burgers but ended up going with the chicken sandwich. Waitperson suggested I try a midrange spice level, glad I listened and took the advice. I enjoy spicy food and this sandwich was amazing. It was just the right level of heat for me. Fries and onion rings were good as well as the chocolate milkshake. Great food and great service, I will be back.

I loved all the brick work inside and the fireplaces. That coupled with a good bear selection and you could call me a happy man. The bartender that was on duty the last time we were there was cheerful, a knockout to look at and friendly to boot. Was a little slow to suggest options when we inquired as to some things that were our fancy that night but I won't hold it against her.Drinks were good and stiff but weren't the cheapest. But I suppose they were reasonable prices after all you are paying for the decor and hot staff, so might as well have a couple and enjoy your time while you are there and then move on and try a couple of the other bars in the area. Worth the visit.

We visited the Griffin because of the interesting reviews on this site. When we went in side there was only one other person. In the room there is a bar long one wall and tables along the other. In the middle there is 2 wood burners with small tables and sitting. The ceiling has brick arches going from one side of the room to the other. Out of all of the lounge type places in Fremont east this is the more interesting, well worth stopping in.

This is a great place to go in and relax. The fireplace was going the night we went in after visiting the Downtown Cocktail Lounge. Stayed for a very long time. Comfortable sofas, great bartender! All in all I will be going back next time I'm in LV.

It was with a small amount of trepidation I approached the Griffin as from the outside it looked very dark and a tad foreboding. I summons up the courage and walk in to be met by a very jovial doorman who asked me for ID (i'm 59) but he said everyone gets the same request. Once inside I was immediately impressed by a) the sheer number of available beverages and b) by the welcome I received from the barman. I told him I was a British dark ale drinker.and he handed me a sample of something called 'moose drool' which i loved immensely and he proceeded to pour me pint after pint for the rest of the evening. He also noted that as i was on my he took it upon himself to engage in all manner of conversation including other good place to go to for a similar beverage. Looking around the room there were small groups as well as couples and everybody was very friendly and were all out for a very good time. By the time i left i think i had spoken to or been spoken to by all the staff and most of the customers especially when they realised i was from London. The bar itself was nicely dark with mainly brick facades along with the odd contained fires which gave off a special kind of ambiance and i felt right at home as it was nice and cool, except it was 90 degrees outside and not 60 as is typical in May in England. Be adventurous and give this place a go, i am sure you will enjoy the experience and you can ask the bar staff about anywhere you want to go or see and they will put you right. Thanks Griffin and here's to the next time.

Bar setting is nice.big fireplace which creates nice atmosphere . It's out back that it got a bit weird. A very good band was playing but the lead singer/guitarist was doing her set topless. It was part of her act but I thought they were so good musically they didn't need this in their act. Ok to pop in but we didn't make a full night of it.

I went there many, many times and had a great time everytime. I loved the cigarette girls and the fire pits, but best of all the music. The tunes were ranging from early Bowie, the Ramones, the Doors to the Cure from the 70s and up - great Alternative rock. I have not eaten there only a bar patron.

We went to Vegas on a local bar crawl trying Manhattans at every stop. Went to a dozen venues. The Griffin was definitely the winner. It seems like a hole-in-the-wall in East Fremont. That is wrong. This is a true hidden gem. The bar is full of impressive masonry work. It is a very cool atmosphere. Eddie, the bartender, spent a great deal of work to make our cocktails absolutely perfect – flaming the lemon in the Manhattans to get just the right smoky flavor. We visited bar after bar in Vegas and this one was by far the winner. Friendly, cool, and with a bartender who put in the work to make just the right cocktail. If you go to one off-strip cocktail place, make it this one. You'll be very satisfied.

We stopped here for a cocktail before dinner and it was a great break from Fremont St. Ed, the bartender, clued us in to the establishment's own distilled whisky. It was good, but they also has a great selection of other booze and craft beer. The inside had a very old school tavern feel to it, as well.

It sure was a nice surprise to see two gas fire places in the center of the room as it was a little chilly last night downtown. This is a cool place that looks like something out of the game of thrones. Drinks were very good and prices were average.

Met a friend here on a Sunday. It's way at the end of the "Fremont street experience". Super dark in there with fire pits which I felt was very cool. Not cocktail waitresses, just had to go to the bar. I had a vodka tonic which was good and strong. No gaming in this bar. Good music and nice dark atmosphere.

I think in another location this place would do gangbusters. The problem is that they are right in the middle of one of the hippest neighborhoods in Vegas, so the idea behind this place is a little out of place. It's designed to look like a mid evil tavern and they do a good job with that - arched brick celings, fire pits, dim lighting. The problem is that it's just not unique enough to draw me away from the places that are serving better drinks down the street. They have a decent beer selection and prices are reasonable. Jukebox is a collection of some of the strangest music I've ever seen (think uber-hipster). It's worth a look in, but not worth a return trip.

This castle-like bar in Downtown is the best place to get away from the masses of "normals" roaming The Strip to find some great beers on tap, excellent indie rock on the jukebox, and a hipsery (yet friendly and not too cool for school) crowd. The LA version of The Griffin in Atwater Village is one of my favorite spots in the city, but the Downtown Vegas version might just be even better.

Love this place. always visit here when in Vegas . Reminds me of a proper English pub. Dark and cosy inside, you can forget you are in Fremont Street for sure. Drinks are reasonably priced. Staff are nice. Will be back again next time.

I dipped in here to get away from the hustle and bustle of Fremont Street. I immediately felt welcome. It had a good vibe and a great drinks. Not that it was cold outside, but it was nice to sit on the bricks around the fire and sink a few.

Sitting on Fremont and just away from the main Street action the Griffin offers up a great place to relax. We've now been on the last couple of occasions and the combination of decently priced drinks and pleasant bar staff will bring us back. The juke box list is also an uncompromising reflection of the bar itself, if you don't like the selection you probably should be somewhere else.

This place was recommended to me by a friend a little over a year ago. Since then I've come back 3 times! Can't get enough of this place. I'm usually not a big club person and prefer a more low key place where people just come to chill and have a great time and enjoy some music. The Griffin is that place and it reminds me of some local spots I hit in the Los Angeles Area. Best days to go are Friday and Saturday night. Saturdays they open up the back room and the DJ plays 80's music and rock in Espanol! The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere wonderful. You won't get suck up people here that think their better than you. You get a mix of a crowd that includes Las Vegas locals. It's a great place to just chill with you're honey or with a group. The decoration reminds me of a warm cozy modern cabin with 2 fire places in the front room. The bartenders definitely do not served watered down drinks and everyone is friendly. This last visit was July 4th, although we arrived pretty early (10 pm) and there was hardly anyone there but managed to get some seats and chilled for a bit. The crowd started to come in and out but it never got really full. We didn't go back on Friday or Saturday. There's no cover charge at The Griffin. I'll be adding The Griffin to my must visit list whenever we come to LV.

What a find this place was. Really cool downtown bar. Highly recommend visiting. Ed the barman kept us entertained the whole time. Top guy. Top bar.

We were recommended this pub by our hosts and it did not disappoint. The Sunday lunch was the best I've ever experienced in a restaurant and was served hot with all the extras you could wish for as well as tops ups should you need them. But the serving itself was huge and completely satisfied our party of 9.

This place has a super cool atmosphere. Dark, gothic, cool interior architecture and seating. Our drinks weren’t the best (I think soda was flat) and there are no TVs so don’t go for the game. But if you want to chill and drink in a castle type atmosphere this is your place.

Had so much fun here! Great music,, drinks and atmosphere. As soon as you walk in you are singing, dancing, and just feel like you belong. You have to check this place out. It's not crazy bump music, they play music you know, that you can sing along to and enjoy. Have fun!

I was told to try this place out by a friend of mine that used to live in Vegas and I was not dissapointed. It was a nice break from all of the craziness of Fremont and the strip. It was a bit dark in there and the $5 domestic bottles were a bit steep but the great jukebox and a chance to sit down and relax made it worth it. A mix of various hip scenesters seemed to be the usual crowd.

Very warm cozy bar. Just away from the canopy on Fremont street. It is a nice mature alternative to the crazy Vegas scene.

A nice place to hang out with friends. The firepit is great, especially on chilly winter nights. Cosy atmosphere, lots of locals. Drinks are on the strong side... Would definitely go back!

I tend to visit this place more so than any other watering hole in Las Vegas. It could also be that I know so many of the people that frequent this place as well. Ha ha. The staff here is always awesome and friendly. They always make you feel like a friend of years. They all make a good drink that will hit the spot. You can either take your drink and chill by the fire places or other sitting areas in the main room, while listening to jukebox selections or you can take that drink with you to the dance floor in the back, where there is another full bar. You will always have a great time at this place, whether you want to party it up, have a chill late night or simply enjoy a drink after work. This place is awesome!

Located in the new Entertainment District on the south side of the five hundred block of east Fremont Street. A few doors west of the House of Beauty a/k/a The Beauty Bar. They share a similar clientele. The latest in a number of trendy nightspots quickly replacing many of the mostly vacant storefronts in the area adding to the new class joints just west of the Blvd. like Mickey Finn’s and Hennessey’s. A simple old storefront with very unusual signage. The interior has been transformed into a medieval castle. Vaulted ceilings, made I was told at great expense, from steel, cement, plaster and paint. Low leather couches and chairs surround low gas fireplaces. The lighting is dark even subdued, blending toward gloomy in places, thus offering islands of relative privacy. Mostly occupied by a young and hip crowd of upscale locals and some knowledgeable tourists. The door is carefully guarded to insure that no underage people enter and probably to keep the light of day out. The prices are high for the area, $8.00 for a generous Knob Creek on the rocks. This probably serves to keep out the local riff raff but there was no cover charge. Wearing a tuxedo at the time there was no dress code mentioned but the customers’ dress leaned more toward business casual than beach wear. Juke box in the back held current alternative rock. A low key perhaps, even a romantic place. Opens around 5:00 pm and stays open well towards dawn. When I was there in late March there was much work being done on Fremont to extend the collection of classic neon signs found on the FSE, down to the 800 block of Fremont. A good place to go in the evenings. The area is up and coming but can still require some caution but this should not stop you from going there as it is but a few steps past the Blvd.

Saw the reviews and gave this place a go. An absolutely nice bunch of people from the door man and the bar staff. Extensive cocktail range, good gin selection and esoteric beers on tap. We will be coming again. And again probably!

I go to this bar every night when I am in Vegas. I've taken all my friends to the Griffin over the years and they all agree it's the best bar in Vegas. Cool dark lounge, with two fireplaces and red booths. Incredible liquor and beer selection as well, and the prices are very reasonable.

A little bar slightly off the beaten path... great ambiance and drinks. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

great local beers, good prices, not so turisty, good music and completely unexpected scenery once across the door

They check your ID at the door, be prepared. Drinks are a bit pricey and stiff! Wheeee! Super dark and loud, just enjoy the scene and keep talking to a minimum. They do allow smoking, yah! It adds to the ambiance.
“Add it to your Vegas bucket list, this posh spot is a must visit”
The Griffin is an amazingly cool bar that is a must visit! This warm, dark and inviting space will draw you in and pique your senses from the decor to drink selection to the ambience. From the glow and warmth of the large fire pits in the room to the phenomenal music selection, this spot will not disappoint! The smoked old fashion is a keeper! If you are in search of great spots “off the beaten path” in Vegas, the Griffin is the place to be! Highly recommend
