The Good, The Great, and Why You'd Avoid - Bar Food

By SanDiegoFoodCzar |

I have now become a little bit of a regular hear because the view is great and the drinks and food always hit the spot. The Great - The View. With a rooftop level that looks over the beach and the pier, this place is perfect for sunset drinks or even a great lunch or dinner spot. The Good - The food and the drinks. While most Beach towns charge an arm and a leg, THC maintains quality at a reasonable price for the area. Solid quality throughout. Why You'd Avoid - The staff seem more neighborhood friendly than tourist friendly. Being one of the best places in to eat or catch some live music, they have gotten to know the people of Ocean beach and if you are an outsider they may treat you as such.

THEY DONT CARE ABOUT US!

Wow, sad to be writing this review as I always liked holding company but I went tonight to support my friends show and I just wanted some water…they literally have a water spicket they USED to let you have water at…and now they don’t let you use it !!! Should be illegal! When I asked the bar for water, they wouldn’t give me tap water; only offered a $5 liquid death can . Are you kidding me ? I paid a $10 cover and I can’t even get free tap water? Sure, I COULD pay the $5 water but I refuse to give you my money because it’s a shame you don’t look out for your people and provide free TAP WATER. The bartenders wouldn’t even give me a water …I literally got a cup of ICE and sucked on the ice so I could get water. Shame on you holding company., I will no longer support any event held at your location. Bad bad greeedy look You literally have a water station you won’t let us use ! Disgusting.

Fabulous Food & Views!

Lucky to live in Ocean Beach, so this place and their other two spots, OB Noodle House and Bar 1502 have been long time favorites. Did you know that the owners invented Skrewball Whiskey?! Yep. I've never had a bad dish here, the food is excellent always. It was my birthday yesterday so we took advantage of their amazing Happy Hour where the whole menu is 30% off Wed-Fri 4-6! We ordered the Sizzling Filet Shaken Beef which was cooked to perfection and was melt in your mouth tender. Their Honey Walnut Shrimp was the best I've ever had! Crunchy, not too sweet and not over dressed with that mayo sauce. Next up was their Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken. I loved how they made the basil leaves all crunchy. Last but certainly not least, was their amazing Skrewball chicken wings. Enormous! Cooked to perfection in their peanut butter whiskey, caramel sauce and peanuts sprinkled generously on top. These are now my favorite wings ever! But don't sleep on their famous original OB Noodle House wings featured on Diners, Drive and Dives! For my birthday I was given a free birthday shot of Skrewball with some whipped cream and sprinkles on top. Delish! Service is always the best here too. Take advantage of their rooftop views of our beautiful ocean! Enjoy!

A culinary journey our tastebuds will remember for years.

Our Uber driver told us we had to check out The Holding Company while on a recent work trip to San Diego. I'm so happy we did! We got there and quickly took in the views from the rooftop patio. We sat down and were faced to make our choice of drinks for the evening. 'Screwball' we read. What is that? There was a whole section of drinks listed under Screwball. We'd later come to know that Screwball is a peanut butter infused whiskey. And HOLY DINAH was it incredible! We tried to take a case back home to Canada! What stood out most though about our experience there was our server, or should I say culinary guide, Mo. She quickly suggested what we should eat and drink and led us on a culinary journey we won't forget. We would have order completely wrong without Mo and instead, we got to try some of the tastiest food and drinks. She ended up surprising us with all our food and drink choices and they were incredible. It was soo good that we took leftovers back on our flight home and couldn't wait to tear into them the next day. We got the fried rice and Screwball wings amongst other things. Both are must-haves! Thanks Mo for the experience! It wouldn't have come close without you. She even suggested a game bar for us to go to after we told her about our after-dinner plans.

Great Asian Food and huge variety of beer!

They have a huge choice of different beers. Some tradition and others fancy - all very good (my wife even said, best beer ever :) ) Food is asian style, very delicious, in particular the salad. Location great - nice view from the rooftop!

Very unique

Stopped in to have dinner with my niece and her husband one night on a visit to SD. They live in the Ocean Beach area, a few blocks from this place. The first floor was live comedy that night, the second was loud music, but the third was cool ocean breeze and quiet enough to have a converation. So like the three bears -- the third one was the best. The tacos were excellent, but you have to try to PB shot! Great selection of beer too! Would recommend: Maybe Would re-patronize: Possibly

Best restaurant

This was the best surprise experience. The food (spam and pineapple fried rice, edamame, street corn on the cob in coconut cream sauce, and honey walnut shrimp) was unbelievably delicious and the service was perfect. Tasty beers and a nice happy hour too! Could use more seltzer’s on the beverage menu.
