The beer selection was amazing & the bartenders were very knowledgeable about the beer! Staff was friendly and service was quick!

They got a variety of beers and other drinks for you to choose from. Their foods were good and interesting as well. When you enter their door, you will be asked to show your ID, so have it ready with you when you go there. It was raining on the day when I visited, but their outside sitting place looks very good too. It's a good place to bring your friends to for foods, snacks, and drinks. The food and drinks are not that cheap. There were four of us, we ordered three meals, and 4 drinks. With tip, we spent around $93.

Stopped for lunch with friends after golf. Beer list is so extensive it takes a while to decide. Had a white chimay, which I really liked, and a jubel which I liked but not as much. Ordered the shrimp and avocado appetizer. Was warned it was raw ceviche which made it more appealing. It was not like ceviche in that the whole shrimp and avocado slices were in a bowl of broth. It said tostadas were served with it, but I was thinking toasted bread slices. Enjoyed it but probably wouldn't order again. Two of us had the Akashi burger. Worried about the pear slices, but they were barely noticeable and the blue cheese covered it nicely. Ordered it medium rare and It was the best cooked burger I've ever had. Couldn't recommend it more. Waiter was great checking on us regularly.

Went there with the intent of hearing live music and good atmosphere. My understanding of 'live' means not prerecorded music. The bartender service was less than enthusiastic. I ordered my beer and one item to eat and was given a ticket to pick up my food. There was no announcement of my food was ready so I had less than warm food. It seems the bartenders were more concern prepping for tonight rather than current customers. Beer was good but device was bad so I doubt I'll go bad.

Lots of places these days offer a wide selection of beers and some do it better than others. The selection here was great, at the right temp, and in the right glassware. There's a great selection of booze as well. The best part was the menu. Porchetta!

A huge selection of beer both on tap and in bottles. They must have 50+ taps. Nice outdoor garden with giant Jenga game.

This place absolutely rules. All the food is amazing and the chef changes the menu often. Some of the options can be pretty exotic and limited at times and it's always so so good. The beer choices are phenomenal, they have so many beers on draft and the staff is knowledgable about all the food and beer. They also have real cork dart boards, which is a rarity in town. I've never had a bad time here, I fully recommend it for food, drinks or both at all times

The waiters were fun and nice but -- really? At 7 pm you run out of a *rueben sandwich*?? And a glass of beer is $15? I am not making this up. We almost walked out.

Great beer selection and friendly service. Nice ribeye steak sandwich. Located near Stone Oak area. Would recommend if in that area.

The food at The Hoppy Monk in San Antonia was top notch - mashed potatoes as a side were delicious. Beer selection was great, settled on two IPA's and we weren't disappointed. Service was excellent.

Had the fish and chips, and the fish was okay, but the chips were not very chippy. So greasy and undercooked that if you held one up vertical it flopped over like a banana peel. Beer, and tequila selection was admirable. We each had a St. Arnold Amber that was $6. Fish and chips and this beer came to just over $21, which seemed kind of pricey for lunch for what I had. Was there for lunch on a day in the 40's outside, and never took my coat off as it was so cold inside.

Based on a recommendation decided on the Hoppy Monk...I suspect I owe that individual a beer because this place was phenomenal. With plenty of unique, good beers on tap, one won't have to search too long for something to drink. For dinner I chose the fish and chips. Which while basic was still very good (aside from the excess garnish) and obviously made in-house. If I were to offer one critique it would be the odd menu. While I didn't necessarily want a fried dinner, the fish was the only thing that appealed to me. But again this is a if-I-was-forced-to-give-a-negative critique... All in all phenomenal!

I've been here several times. Very beer knowledgeable. I would recommend this place, only problem was today during a "training" of new people they served our food to another couple. When it was noticed by the staff, they literally just took the food from them to give to us. Not new food, just gave us the food. I pointed it out; still didn't get new food. That rather irritates me. Hestistant to come back.

Husband and I went here on a Friday night about 7pm. Parking was packed, but much to our happiness, got seated right away, the place is rather large inside with a great outdoor patio...just wished it was no smoking. Server was attentive and management even checked how our dinner was. He had burger, I had wings, both of them were great! Very fresh also. Beer is another story...so much to choose from...so if you love you some beer...this is your place!! Would go back next time in town for sure.

We were in the area on vacation and stopped here for a late lunch. The service was great. Sat outside, played some Jenga. Food and drinks were awesome! We had cauliflower wings, brussel sprouts, burgers. Everything was wonderful. Definitely will stop again! I would give more than 5 stars if I could!

Good environment, plenty of selections of beers and liquors. I was there for happy hour and was not too crowded, but heard it can get pretty packed. I intend to visit it again.

The service at this place is absolutely terrible. This is a place I used to come to frequently. Something has changed. The service is so bad, it makes you wonder why your waiting for stuff. We literally had to walk out to get someone to come to us.

This is probably one of THE best places to grab a craft beer in San Antonio. Bar none, the most knowledgeable bartender staff and tap selection. If you are looking for a Miller product, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a few dunkelweitzen to sample this is your place.

This place has a book for a drink menu, it's crazy! We met some friends for dinner and although they have some different food options than your normal bar food, if you're hungry this is not the place for you. Most of the items on the menu that are listed as "Shared Plates" are more of a side than a sampler type plate unless everyone in your table just wants one bite. The fish and chips were very good and came with 4 pieces of fried fish with delicious fries.

My first time here. This review may be considered "half-biased" since I didn't order food. Anyway, the bar staff is "on it" and very friendly. They even try to have a conversation with you if they have the time. They serve excellent craft brews, wine and drinks. finished my beer drinking experience with an old fashioned by Josh. It was excellent.

Between the great Brunch food selections, the overwhelmingly amazing beer selection, and the overall modern "abbey" feel of the restaurant, The Hoppy Monk hit the nail on the head for fun, patio-driven eating and drinking with friends. Food recommendation: Duck Carnitas Benedict paired with a Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier Dunkel.

My favorite near-Stone Oak restaurant - wonderful outdoor dining, an awesome beer selection, a unique and delicious array of food on the menu, and to top it off - great friendly service.

There are 20 beer taps lining a wall outside with water pouring out of them making a very creative water feature. Inside their are 99 beer taps behind the bar. That is quite impressive. The food is a bit pricey, but is well prepared with generous portions and excellent quality. If you like beer, this is a place you shouldn't pass by.

We go often. We really like to sit outside when the weather is nice. The food is unique and delicious. The avocado toast on Saturday/Sunday brunch is AMAZING! The prices are reasonable. In fairness to those reading this review; sometimes the food is not as warm as we would like but it’s that good that we don’t complain. If you like an Old Fashioned and a wide variety of beer this is your place. We have always been well treated by the staff. The music is sometimes too loud inside. That would be the only thing I would change about the Hoppy Monk. Oh, and I wish they were open for lunch during the week.

Food is ok. Design is lacking. Lunch sitting outside during the summer they need misters. I'll try again.

Food is wonderful, made from scratch, fresh. Had mushroom appetizer-great! Duchess buger, great! Will definately revisit, can take your dog with you to the outside patio

Great place, has a nice patio, happy hour till 6:30 on week days. It offers bunch which we didn't get to try since they were out of coffee that specific Sunday. I like the peach cider and chicken wings here A LOT. If you have kids you should know it is an adult only place after 7:00 pm. The menu has some typical stuff like burgers and some interesting stuff for the people who are more adventurous (like rabbit Barbacoa,... ). Worth to try.

Great out of the way pub to visit. Terrific selection of beer. Very limited menu but the food was fabulous. I only wish they would add more to their menu to eat. Everything is very fresh and outstanding. Don't let this place pass you by!

Sunday, Feb. 10, 2017 Family party of 13. OK, I was afraid that the 13 of us descending upon these folks at the moment it opened at 10:00 AM would not be well received. Actually they accommodated us well, and the service was good. Odd quirk of Texas law explained to su that there had to be food on the table before we could order, or be served , drinks. Somebody ordered something, it came really quickly, and as soon as it arrived the ordering began in earnest. I went with the semi exotic eggs benedict. Duck eggs with duck meat instead of Canadian Bacon or ham. Really good, Filling portion. Good Tanqueray gin Bloody Mary with it. No idea what the other dozen folks in our party ate, but the consensus afterward was that it was all pretty good. Interesting interior decoration, it appears to be an old church repurposed as a beer centric pub. NIce spot, a tad dim and dark for these 72 year old eyes. Service was very good considering the size, and surprise arrival of our party. I was not the host, so I didn't get the check / bill. Eric took care of it all. I remember from the menu that the food prices seemed a tad high.

This place was really cool. Many beers on tap, very knowledge bar tenders. We tried a couple news beets at their suggestion, very good. They do have a liquor selection so the whole crowd will be pleased there

I felt they were trying too hard to be hip and cool and be something that they are not. However, their prices are are New York City worthy. $8 for a beer (Weihenstephan) for example. The happy hour beer prices are $4, but the glasses are half the size too. 1/2 chicken is $20. This places is very expensive for what it is. I am glad I went, but I won't go back. Plus beer place that has 50+ beers on the menu but does not carry Paulaner, the best beer from Germany, is making substantial mistakes.

We went to the Hoppy Monk for Sunday lunch at the suggestion of my daughter and son-in-law -- they had been there twice before. Their selection of beer is amazing and our waitress was more than happy to make suggestions. What surprised us the most was the quality of their food items -- a small, but varied menu. I had the mussels with frites which were quite good, my husband had one of their specialty burgers and my daughter had the fish and chips. While we waited for our food to arrive, my husband, daughter and grandson played the giant Jenga game outside close to where we were seated. The covered patio was perfect for our cooler day here today. Our waitress, Ilse, was wonderful and took great care of our family. We will return!

Fantastic! We stopped in for a late rainy day Saturday lunch. The selection of spirits, wines and beer is impressive. The menu a tidy one page -- but they focus on doing things extremely well, not having a huge menu. My Cippiono was the best I've ever had. Fantastic tomato based broth with LOADS of mussles and shrimp. Truly the best flavored Cippino ever. I could hardly stop eating. My wife had the Fish and Chips which were equally good. The chips were delightfully seasoned and the fish breaded perfectly. For dessert we shared the Belgian Waffles with hazelnut and chocolate sauce and fresh berries. The waffles were cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside. We will definitely stop here the next time we are in the area.

12/31/2018 Our second visit and it did not disappoint. Still great service and food. We could not wait to visit San Antonio to come here and eat. The Vegan tacos($10.00) were still very good as well as the fresh fries($3.50). My husband is still raving about the wings($13.00) and he had the fish and chips($15.00) Ice Tea($2.50) We have said everytime we are in San Antonio this is a MUST stop place to eat. The restroom was still nice and clean as well.

Sat outside on a hot day with our longhair dachshund, but many well shaded tables and a stiff breeze made it comfortable. Service was beyond great. Beer selection is hard to top. Lunch menu is very limited - 6 or 7 sandwiches - but a very interesting assortment. I had a beef tongue rueben, which was great. Partner had a heirloom BLT, which was also great. Dachshund had beef tongue as well and he loved it.

My guy and I have been here twice and we love this place. I am giving in only 4 stars because the burger I ordered both times (Blue Fox) was made totally different the second time around. This really upset me only because I thought it was the best burger ever the first time around and thought it was going to keep bringing me back. Unfortunately, the second time around the blue cheese sauce was so thick and the pears were crunchy. The first time around this burger was sweet and you didn't just get a mouth full of blue cheese. I hope the cooks can get on the same page. As for the drinks: they have an extensive menu and Sundays they have a wide range of $3.75 can specials.

My husband and I were worried about our fur babies until we found this place where we can bring our babies along with us. The customer service here was amazing. We felt relaxed and welcoming. And of course, our babies were loved. I wish I could've gotten the 2 waitresses' names that offered our babies water when they noticed that our water bottle was running low. I want to give them a huge thank you for that.

The Hoppy Monk is now is it's soft opening phase, with over 99 beers on tap,The Hoppy Monk is quite an experience for Craft beer lovers looking for a new hangout. Huge open outside area, even has a waterfall made from various beer tap handles...Inside is spacious with a man-cave feel, lots of natural lighting throughout. several TV's, each showing sports, and dart boards, etc.. The bartenders here are well informed about the beers and can help explain the key differences between each one. They also allow you the chance to sample, just enough to taste the flavors and notes, so you do not have to fully commit to the beer before tasting. They are also a full service bar, with a huge selection fo whiskey and bourbon and have daily mixed drinks specials. The food is quirky and different, but sooo worth it! The Sweet potatoes fries sprinkled with spiced sugar and paired with the Spicy Roasted Red Pepper Aiolis, is a must!! I recommend the large order!!! The Duschesse Burger, with onion jam, fresh cheddar, sliced tomotoes and your pick of Aiolis is also delicious! They also offer salads, with homemade dressing, tacos, wings, sliders, etc. Go check it out and see for yourself. You wont be dissappointed!!

The Hoppy Monk, not surprisingly, has an absolutely fantastic craft draft beer selection, and actually a great whiskey selection, to boot! There is an overall open air beer hall style here, with lots of picnic table-style seating. Unfortunately, this made it very loud in here. I sat at the bar, and had a very friendly bartender to help me with my after-dinner drink. This is definitely a place to come to if you're looking for a beer or whiskey fix!

Went here in a double date with my wife and some friends. Great atmosphere and service. Go early because when the weather is nice it gets packed real quick. If you are a beer lover this is the place for you. If not, they still have a few wine choices and I believe the waitress told us they would have a full bar soon. Good food too! Lots of outdoor seating. Would have given it 5 stars but I am not a beer expert and would have liked to have seen more choices on ye menu. But overall I really enjoyed it and will go back.

This is an absolutely fantastic place to visit of you love local craft beers. You won't find crap like Bud Light and Coors at The Hoppy Monk. Our server, Alex, was super knowledgable and really set our visit up for success with his recommendations. The rabbit tacos are great, and definitely something different. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. If you're looking for a relaxed place with great beer and a unique menu, this is the place!

Dinner was fantastic! I had the blue fox burger but decided to hold the pears. I would have loved to try the drinks and million beers on tap.... but I was there on business.

We arrived to San Antonio late after a long day of delayed and canceled flights. We need food and a drink and this place was near the airport and our hotel and stayed open late. Great selection of beer, whiskey, bourbon and tequila. And really good food. Highly recommend. The server was awesome.

My wife and I stopped in on a Sunday for a bite to eat and some drinks. We were greeted quickly with a smile and menu's to get us started. The brunch menu was short, but had a very interesting and unique selection. While we looked it over, I was asked about my tastes in brew. My very knowledgeable bartender guided me through a large selection of beers before recommending a local craft ESB that was right on the money. We chose the bacon and egg burger and the brunchwich, kind of a breakfast sandwich with incredible flavors. They also used Akaushi Beef for the burger, which was delicious. Although a bit on the pricey side, we will return to explore more brews and try the regular menu.

We went with 2 toddlers, we saw one review that it was family friendly and we wanted to try out some local beers, and the outdoor patio seemed nice, my husband also saw some good reviews regarding the food. The beer list was great. I don't really care for real beers, only like the fruity beers but my husband found me 2 beers that I loved. My husband had a couple of IPAs that he liked. The server didn't really know much about the beer list, but I had my husband to guide me. We sat outside with the kids. They weren't unfriendly about the kids, but definitely didn't go out of their way about the kids. The guacamole was okay. We got really warm and left before eating dinner, which was initially the plan. It seemed okay, but I think there's better places for a beer, especially if you have kids with you.

Been here a lot of times and I think this place is wonderful with lot of beers to keep you happy. They also have spirits and cocktails and I have tried them once. They were not exceptional but nothing to worry either. Food is what impresses me at this place time and again. they have great quality control and presentation. Though the portions seem small and a bit pricy I am willing to pay it for the service. Go with your friends or the significant other or all alone. The bar serves everyone!!

Arrived during Happy Hour and had a local draft for $4. The queso fundido was different but good, very cheesy and tasty. Also had fish and chips which were great. They made a substitution for us and it was a minimal, fair charge. This was the best meal of the trip to San Antonio. You should go if you can. This place is unique and well priced for the experience and food.

We just stopped in for a couple of beers but ended up being enticed by the cool sotol and mescal cocktails. While there was ample booze in them, two little cocktails were over $20. We liked the selection, but it was packed and the bartenders slow. We will definitely be back to try the food.

This place is great! It has a real laid back atmosphere, and it has an area inside and outside. They make their unique dishes with local and organic ingredients. They have one of the best burgers I have ever had. They have so many different beers and signature drinks. Definitely recommend this place.

This restaurant was recommend to us by our hotel receptionist, and she did not steer us wrong! We ate here at about 7 PM on a Friday night, so it was busy, but we were seated and waited upon quickly. Simone was our server, and she was wonderful. Drinks were always refilled and she checked on us often without being annoying. I had the bacon and egg burger with roasted vegetables, and it was perfectly cooked (medium) and delicious. The roasted vegetables were the best I have ever had. It is a little pricey at $17 bucks a burger, but it is worth it. Give it a try!

The beer garden, the wood benches, the tattooed servers, the gourmet pub food-ethically sourced, my little hipster heart quivers. I had the fish and chips...okay not cosmic, but then again I was amazed at how incredible the plate was, the sauce was beyond any lame tartar variety...wow. The fries were above average, nicely seasoned. The mushroom starter with the pepper dipping sauce had some nice heat. The menu had a lot to offer. On the other hand, no changing table and no high chairs ergo big hiss from parents of a toddler. Nonetheless they did make us a side of steamed veggies and we were cozy in a side table so we will be back and interested in their brunch menu.

The food was good, the mussels were excellent (reminded us of a small restaurant in Brussels). The choices of beers, ales and malts was huge and a fantastic variety. There were families, singles and couples there when we visited. It has an old pub atmosphere that is very modern. The staff is very helpful for the people new to the Hoppy Monk.

Lots of great food and beer. The are only open to 21 years old and older. The people that work there are very educated on all the beer. They don't have main stream beer it is all craft beer. $$

This place is on the other side of the hwy from Costco. They have an extensive beer and liquor list. Was impressed. They allow for samples of beers before ordering glasses. The food here is also very good, but the only knock is portion sizes. They tend to be small.

The Ranger Creek Brew-stillary hosted an event at the Hoppy Monk to as part of bourbon heritage month. The staff from Ranger Creek and the Hoppy Monk made the evening a roaring success. The Hoppy Monk features a rather eclectic mix of beers and cocktails from around the nation and world. A very good place to visit if you're a novice like myself. Pull up a bar stool she cheers travelers!

The food was very good...when it finally came. They are not set up to handle any type of crowd. It took 40 minutes just to get an appetizer. Also, when ordering margaritas with no salt, they always had to take it back...yep, ALWAYS came with salt. Very disappointing to have to wait...and wait...and wait....

This place has an extensive and amazing array of beers and spirits and the food options are creative and tasty. I highly recommend this for an evening with friends. They also have an outdoor patio if you like to drink with your dog...

Terrible, bartenders are lazy and Won't make any adjustments to their drinks. I tried to pay the same price for a drink without the beer topper(gluten issues) and they told me no. I'm trying to save u an ingredient but pay the same price! Then my wife tried to get a drink but with vodka instead of fun, and once again told No! To top it all off on this terrible experience, our truck was broken into while we were inside. We will never be back here

Had a business meeting to end the day and the environment was casual and the food was delicious. The appetizers of brussel sprouts and vegetables, and main plates of the tacos were both sizeable are savory. For the beer connoisseur, there are a wide variety of beers to select. The same can be said of their tequila and other drinks. Festive and pleasant environment.

Excellent food, drinks, and wait staff. Such a large selection of beers and ales, plus cocktails and wine with great food is a recipe for an excellent experience. I enjoyed the Blue Fox burger and my companions had the wings, fish and chips, and the Ruben sandwich. The scratch kitchen provided excellent fair. The onion rings were lovely with a light drizzle of honey. Honey is a staple of many of the drinks and food. All was enjoyable. Recommended. Family friendly too.

They have a huge beer selection here. I was having a hard time making a selection so the waiter bought me several samples to try before I chose. I loved the atmosphere of this place. They have a patio outside with a fountain made out of several beer taps. The food here is very good and there are vegetarian as well as gluten free options. They were very accommodating. I had the Vegetarian monk. It was made with pumpkin, black beans, and corn with a balsamic aioli. I did not think lunch was over priced at all.

Looking for a “different” place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, we came to The Hoppy Monk. I had heard good reviews about it but hadn’t made the time to stop by. Well we did yesterday, 2-10-2020. As you walk in, you’re greeted with a wall-to-wall selection of CRAFT beers. No domestic beers!! After talking with our waitress, we told her what we usually drink. She made her recommendation and we were pleasantly surprised. I got a dark beer since I regularly drink Shiner Bock and my wife drinks Ultra. Mine was rich in flavor but lacked the body of a stout beer. My wife’s was mild and comparable to Ultra. But the star of the afternoon was out meal. We ordered a Beef Tongue Reuben Sandwich. It was outstanding!! The tongue was flavorful and extremely soft. Someone really knows how to cook it. The tongue was served on grill-toasted rye, sauerkraut, and topped with a sunny side egg. The sauerkraut was mild tasting and the egg tasted like a range free egg. The combined flavors made for a fantastic sandwich. We had a side order of FF and were garnish with Kosher salt and what tasted like parsley. I ended with a dark, stout coffee/chocolate flavored beer. It had lots of flavor but also lacked body. It resembled a Guinness but only in looks. So if you’re looking for a unique place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, stop looking and come to The Hoppy Monk.

The restaurant offers inside and outside seating as well as stools at the bar.. The draft selection is outstanding. When they get busy the service can be a little slow. Definitely worth a try

7/4/2014 First time visit. It was raining very hard and the pub was not crowded. First, The restroom was nice and clean. Second, The staff member who gave us our menus was very nice. Then our server was even better. The music is cool. They have Vegan and Vegetarian options. My husband was skeptical until he bit into his order. Third, I had the vegan tacos(3) and they were not tiny and nicely presented. My husband ordered 2 servings of the wings and so I ordered the cauliflower wings and had to take them as well as the tacos to go (very filling). Last, This was a recommendation from our hometown and my husband and I both said this will be our must visit place when in San Antonio.

I don’t write reviews, but I was so impressed that I must. Food and drinks excellent. More than that, I was amazed at the welcoming spirit of the staff. They care about the customers and each other. A breath of fresh air. Thanks!

This place has a TON of beer to choose from, it's almost overwhelming. The food menu is somewhat small but what they offer is unique and amazing! Service has been good, even during evenings when packed.

A coworker recommended The Hoppy Monk, so some of us headed out there after work. I only really wanted a porter and a Scotch, so I ordered my beer and came out quickly, in the right glasss, and with the right amount of head. Then I ordered a McCallan 18 - when the waitress asked me for a short or proper pour, and followed by how I'd like it prepared I couldn't help but smile. Very, very few places ask for the preparation (even if you tell them how you want it). My drink came with 1 rock and a double, the way I prefer, and it was spot on. I'll definitely be back; the food smelled delicious and was definitely off the beaten path.

Where to start with such a terrible experience. Waiter had trouble getting our simple drink order out including water. Once ordered the first two orders came, 10 minutes passed and the second two orders came and finally after another 10 minutes the third two orders came. Sent one back as everyone else was done as they had shared their meals. One burger that was supposed to be med rare was black on outside and brown and dry all the way through. We asked for a person they called the manager. When we expressed our concern all he did was make excuses with no apologies. Said he would be right back after he researched. We never saw him again he was scared to return. Waiter offered up taking off the meal that was returned because others were done, pathetic gesture and really a joke. Avoid this place they have no clue of service or customer service.

Hip crowd; huge (ever-evolving) beer and cocktails selection; delicious, creative, one-of-a-kind, and well-executed pub-grub menu. I (we) had a great time.

Atmosphere inside is rustic, with a cool, old world feel. There seem to be about a thousand beers on tap, and even more available by the bottle. There area few, well chosen glasses of wine and plenty of spirits available as well. If you're lucky, you'll get Alana to take care of you. I've never met a server with a more comprehensive knowledge of beer. Highly recommend.

So, thanks to my fellow yelpers I went over the Hoppy Monk to try their food. Now, just a request, I need my folks in San Antonio to start yelping and using trip advisor more. Hard to find an up-to-date review, geesh. We city people use both. Anyway, I ordered the korean chicken wings, mac-n-cheese of the day, and Brussel sprouts. The korean chicken was pretty flavorful, and if you've ever had these they pretty much taste of a blend of teriyaki sauce, ginger and barbecue sauce. The brussel sprouts were so good! Definitely get an order of those. The mac was OK. Definitely in need of some salt and pepper. It was very bland. The mac I had that day was a blend of three types of cheese. Don't be afraid to use salt even though you used three types of cheese. The restaurant was clean and almost kind of bar style. They have an outisde area as well. The bartender I had was ok. I asked her to remake a moscow mule and I saw her talk about it with another bartender who then came over and made me a new drink. Not sure what that was about but it wasn't cool. She then asked me was my new drink ok. Ummmm, yea, wouldve been better if it didn't come with a side of passive aggressiveness lol. But regardless of that, I would like to go back to try a few other things. I've attached pics. Enjoy

Went here last night for the first time and was overwhelmed by the quantity of great beers from across the country on draught. Great to be able to taste different beers before selecting one. Friendly bar staff to begin with but Heb the lady went off shift and the guy who replaced her was quite serious to a little grumpy to be honest. Then to our amazement he told us we’d had enough beers (6) and under Texas law he had the authority not to serve us any more. I explained we weren’t driving but taking an Uber but this made no difference to his position...in his opinion we were on the edge of going to far with our quantity of beers consumed!!! Really!!? In my 25 years of enjoying adult beverages, never have I been told I’d reached my maximum allowed! Shame as it really put a downer on the evening and on our excitement that we’d discovered this place which is quite unique in its selection and offer. Ironically we Uber’d to the nearby Buffalo Wild Wings bear our hotel and had a few more pints and a couple of whiskeys!! And we’re still able to walk home Mr Barman!!! Food: had fish and chips which were served on the narrowest rectangular plate I ever saw, with half each fish filet falling off and touching the bar top/surface! Batter on the fish was thick and chewy, fish inside was too dry. Over cooked maybe? Wings were really good, well the sauce was. Similar situation with the fish, the wings batter was thick and seemed over cooked and the chicken inside was dry. So what started off well turned into a real disappointment - so undecided if I’ll go back here again. Shame.

Stop by when you get a chance for fish and chips and a drink of your choice. They make their own ketchup. It is a place to chill out and take a load off

My wife and I did a 25mi hard bike ride in 90-100 degree heat and came here because we hadn't been yet. We were both really shocked by how good and interesting the food was (Beyond normal beer-hall food, which I generally like too) and had some great beer from their extensive beers on tap list. Positives: Cool outdoor space with lots of seating and one of my favorite fountains (You'll know it when you see it). The food was great, fresh, and interesting. We had the Vegan Empanadas that I initially rolled my eyes at but were really... I mean really good! The staff also was attentive and enjoyable. We chose to sit outside because we were drenched in sweat and didn't want to steak up the place... but the interior when we popped in for some AC was really cool. Negatives: What a weird place to put a beer-hall/gastro-pub. It's on the frontage road right between the 410 and 281. If you stand in the parking lot you can see both of them right in your face. What we were pleasantly surprised about was that they've done some great architectural elements to make it feel like you aren't near the highway, and it works.

Stopped in for a beer after work. Interesting place. Kind of dark like a pub. The outdoor area is great if there weather is good. Friendly service. Did not try food but will be back to try that next

What an elegant yet swanky spot. Joined some friends here for a few drinks. The talent behind the bat is top notch. The drinks are well crafted and everyone knows their spirits. And the food deserves to be on a 5 star menu. We went on a Monday which is all day “hoppy hour” and drinks were very Reasonably priced for the quality that you get. Fantastic!

What a great place to relax and chill with a small group of close friends or your special companion! I absolutely loved the atmosphere, both indoor and out. The knowledge and interaction of our waiter was unparalleled to anything I have ever experienced before. He was obviously passionate about the love of what he does, and it shows!!!! I have lived in Europe and traveled abroad many a time, savoring the beers from different monasteries and places. This was as if new creations were paired with global traditional favorites and housed in one relaxing 'chill' environment. I found a new favorite beer and was thoroughly enlightened about the origins and creation of many brews and other spirits. If you are looking for GREAT beer or GREAT drink that expands beyond the 'corporate' beer world, enjoy exploration of new tasted and want to experience something real and true to heart, this place is an epic reality. They also offer a local selection of liquors and wines. If you are closed minded and stuck in a rut with mass produced globalized conglomerate beers, you may want to pass, for this rare find is not fit for a beer pauper! We will return!!!!

Wow, the food was the big surprise. I expected a wide selection of beer but the the food was artfully crafted and presented. What I received was very different from what I expected...In a good way. Don't go in a rush... proper preparation takes time and is worth the wait. The beer selection is beyond all beer selections. A huge inventory of choices...Take your time with that unless you know what you want. The staff are great guides so trust their advice. It appears to be a bit of a bearded men's club...Only full beards allowed but they are nice to beer novices if you show interest. A must stop in North S.A.

Went to this place today and I would rate this place negative if I could. 4 people parked where there was no parking spaces, hence making it impossible to get out of the parking lot. The staff got two cars to move, one being legally parked just so I could pop their sidewalk to get out of where I was parked. The staff didnt seem to care at all about the situation. The waitress also kept walking off and finally took our order. I do not recommend this place to anyone, unless you want to pay for overpriced foid, terrible service, and parking issues.

This place for sure is unique (at least in San Antonio). They serve traditional food but always with a twist (i.e. burger . . . but with pear and blue cheese, or reuben . . . but with tongue!) . . . it tastes great! Beer selection is impressive and well organized. Duck tacos are fantastic. The place is amazing with great outside seating area, even the architecture is different! Service needs to improve . . . they need to remember that not everyone is a beer connoisseur and it takes a little bit of time to get through the menu (patience please!).

I am a couple of friends had a wonderful meal together. The drinks were good. The food was outstanding I personally had a wonderful cheeseburger with arugula that was cooked to perfection. The mustard and catch up were even wonderful. My friend had rabbit tacos that he enjoyed while his girlfriend a quail. The mood was casual. Multiple guest had dogs. They offered huge selection on tap. Highly recommend.

Beer menu is extensive and very nice, atmosphere at the time we went was great! Its wasn't too crowded or loud, the crowd wasn''t rambunctious. The food menu seemed as though he owners were attempting to make it special with unusual names for items. Most just ordinary bland bar food. Was not overly impressed with the food but would go back for the beer and atmosphere.

The Hoppy Monk has a great rustic atmosphere. The selection of draft beers is absolutely incredible and the wall of taps is mesmerizing. The food is good and the service is great. There is a little something for everyone here!

Enjoyed everything I ordered. The Blue Cheeseburger was delicious and better than average with the pear and cider flavors peeking thru and easing the blue cheese. The French fries were above average as well with very distinct and delicious ketchup (house made it seems). Unfortunately, I don’t drink beer, but the selection was enormous. I kind of wish the food menu was more extensive but everything was outstanding and I’ll take quality over quantity any day.

Loved the Hoppy Monk. We are foodies with kids and having kids did not make us suddenly want Applebee's... that said, we had wanted to try The Hoppy Monk for a while. It is VERY clearly posted on their site that they are 21 and up after 7. So, if you want good food with kids, don't go after 7. Which I completely understand. So we went for lunch on a Saturday. Right away upon walking in, saw 3 other tables with toddlers. Awesome, we should probably make friends with those people. Atmosphere and service... fantastic. Totally laid back, super nice to our kid (4 years old), super nice to us. Now... to the food! Had the Reuben, which was awesome. Like a regular Ruben but better with no chewiness to the meat whatsoever. My 4 year old loved it so much that I started to not want to share any more with him... Mac of the moment had some kind of german cheese which was delicious and loved by the under and over 5 year olds... IPA wings awesome! Perfectly crispy and spicy-sweet on the outside. Stout churro... highlight of the meal for all! The stout added the perfect hint of bitterness to keep it from being excessively sweet. And about the drinks... hubby had the Greed of Smaug, which was mescal based and perfectly smoky according to the hubs. I had the Orange chocolate Negroni, which was good, but then moved on the the Thyme is Rye-t, which was the winner... perfectly boozy with a slightly sweet but complex flavor and egg whites adding a perfect creaminess. Wow. Wanted to try the Dude Abides which someone else had yelped about, but it was a special and they did not have the vodka infusion for it. Overall review... awesome and worth every calorie. And a fine place to take your foodie-in-training kid, as long as you are considerate. Oh, and worth the very unsteep price tag as well. We will be back.

Food is moderate to high priced for what you get. Atmosphere is OK. Patio areas are nice. Dark boards (not electronic) and three TV's. Wait staff is hit and miss, some are nice, some are angry. Good selection of beer on tap and a large menu of alcohol. Not many food items offered. They also have a club you can join if you plan on going a lot. Other places in the area include Brick House, Houlihan's, and Little Woodrow's.

This is a unique watering hole. The bar food is eclectic but oh so good. The drinks are a bit expensive but different and good.

Ate here for lunch with a group travelling on business. Restaurant was not crowded (almost deserted). Awesome selection of beers and craft cocktails but we had a meeting later that afternoon. The menu states that they source all their ingredients locally and the waiter emphasized that everything including the ketchup is made from scratch. It showed in the results. Burgers were way above average as were the fries and fish and chips. One person tried the baloney sandwich (actually venison mortadella) because he wanted to see what a $12 baloney sandwich tasted like - it was very good. And yes, the ketchup was outstanding. Waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I was in San Antonio for work and looking for a place to enjoy a drink and some dinner. A nearby search popped up The Hoppy Monk, which was easy to find and a full parking lot - always a good sign. I sat at the bar and was waited on quickly and given recommendations for drinks which they have a HUGE selection! The food is farm to table and the restaurant has a hip vibe while still being visited by young and old alike. Food was great and it had a very positive atmosphere.

12/31/2019 Our must visit place when visiting San Antonio. We arrived shortly after opening around 3:10pm. The restrooms were still clean. The vegan tacos de Rajas y Chorizo are still very good and the cauliflower wings were fresh and delicious. My husband had the fish and chips again and said they were still good and the wings were as well.We need this place in Houston

My hubby has been wanting to try this place for a while. Service was GREAT and the food was very, very tasty!! My hubby was very pleased with the Reuben de Lengua sandwich! The fries and aioli choices were really good, too! I opted for the Duchesse Burger and the onion jam really gave this burger oomph! I just wish I had it cooked medium instead of medium-well. The Akaushi beef is really tasty! My hubby tried the Avery Brewing Company's White Rascal - a wheat beer with hints of orange and coriander. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I liked it and would drink it (I'm a shandy girl!). I'm not a beer drinker, so I tried the Josh Chardonnay and liked it so much, had to have another! We'll be back - service was amazing!

They have a very extensive beer list that is always changing for the true connoisseur, plus the food is awesome and creative, not typical bar food. Hope they bring back the homemade ketchup.

Sadly, after visiting multiple times with our one year old, today we were turned away. Thanks for the inconsistency! We showed up at 230 afternoon on a Saturday-during oktoberfest. My husband excited of course, it was also his birthday. After we were told the policy, My husband being a nice guy left without a scene. So I will resort to a passive aggressive review as my thanks to the hoppy monk. Seriously I am offended. You just lost customers who have been previously pleased and brought friends back to your establishment. Never mind, I'm sure you have plenty of other patrons willing to forgo their meal with children present, they probably also get plenty of sleep, never have to contemplate society with babies, sick people, those with disabilities or anyone not sporting tattooes and a hipster stash. We are now loaded up in our mini van and soccer shorts and headed to chuckee cheese where we obviously belong. And let's not pretend you are preventing underage drinking, she's one, for gods sake. No common sense.

Parking lot was full...but found a spot. Not crowded but enough people, weird for 5:30on a Friday for a place that is 21 and over after 7. Everything is local which is very cool, the waitress ask what we liked then brought out our drinks. Still don’t know what I am drinking but it’s good. The wife had a fruit type beer peach thing that was very good...she’s a fu fu drink person... she had the fish and chips and I had the bacon burger. Both are awesome...not very loud, good music playing, excellent outdoor seating...people brought their little dogs. Looking around and I see all age groups, we are a bit older and not into the bar scene...this place is pretty cool will definitely be coming back!!! Oh and like the title they say everything is from scratch or scratch kitchen, ketchup and everything...not normal...but really good. This place will challenge what you think a restaurant should be. I highly recommend at least one stop in.

Bad experience we had here, the food was just regular, but the service and the prices of the food and drinks litteraly wasn't worth it, when they give you the check the tip was rude, 20% for what? even that was optional "no tip" or them give them the minimum 20%,

I initially thought this was a bar that served the typical fair to good quality bar food. There is a great selection of beers as expected but the big surprise here is that the food is actually very good.

Early parents night out for some beers and grub. We tried to visit this place a few weeks ago, but with two kids in two were turned away at 6:30p with the 7p 21+ policy. So, BEWARE, no kids after 7p. Though, after visiting, I'm still comfortable bringing my kids here. Nice laid back atmosphere. As the name implies, a nice selection of beers. They do offer half pints on some, but wish there was an option to piece together some flights. The only disappointment of the night. The beers, of course, were great. Fresh taps, proper glass, etc. Service was consistent. Food was awesome! Cauliflower wings were fantastics, and the bologna sandwich did not disappoint. Looking forward to coming back. Only knocking off a star for the 21+ policy after 7p and lack of flights. I'd pay a pretty penny to get more tastes out of a visit without stumbling out.

The beer selection is great here. The sandwiches and the veggie cassoulet are good. Sweet potato fries are way too sweet. Everything from the mixed drinks, to the sandwiches, to the Mac and cheese is "smoky". Very boozy cocktails. Wait staff very nice

Like many other places in San Antonio, they have an enormous on tap beer selection. We ordered some appetizers which were average, and our wait staff was kind of preoccupied. the table next to us arrived after us and they were treated by their server and their orders were taken before anyone came acknowledged us.

Beer selection is excellent. Staff knowledge about beers is excellent. Food is excellent. Try the Korean Chicken Wings, they are world-class. Ambience is excellent.

First of all, the service wasn't very good. 2 girls were trying to take care of all the tables, inside and out. Several young men were walking around, but mostly talking to each other, not visiting tables or helping anyone, unless food was returned, which I saw several times. It took at least an hour for entrees to come out, and it wasn't even very busy! The food was cold and I can't even describe the fish and chips. The outside was fried but batter was still raw inside, making the fish soggy. The place was expensive, service limited, and the food was below standards. We won't go back, there are many better places to eat in San Antonio.

We've been searching for a bar/pub to add to our north San Antonio rotation. Look no further. A wonderful mix of hipsters and "more mature"' people. Huge selection of local craft beers on tap and an incredible kitchen. We split the Trappist fried mushrooms which honestly could have served five, with a choice of three aioli's (our favorite was the spicy red pepper) and the hamburger (locally raised Akaushi beef) topped with a fried egg and bacon marmalade plus tomato and aioli and aged cheddar that you would pay tons more for in a fancy downtown restaurant. World of Beer and Lion and the Rose have both closed up here....leaving this as one of the few places grown ups can come and enjoy good beer, food, and company.

Some of the worst food I've ever been subjected to. First I tried the avocado shrimp aquachile shared plate suggested to me by the waiter. Inedible. Disgusting. So I thought I'd go for something safe -- fish and chips. Can't get safer than that, right? It was hideous. Even the ketchup for the small smattering of fries they supplied was inedible. Expensive and disappointing in every respect.

Extensive bar menu . Food is poor , not a real restaurant Initially told no eggs for wife's cobb salad . Ordered a Reuben sandwich only to get the worst reuben ever 1 thin layer of a few Pieces of cooked corn beef. Over priced bad food. I should have taken a photo.

Good food and selection of good beers. Went here for brunch with family including children. Fairly busy but didn't wait long for friendly helpful service. Liked the surroundings ,music a bit loud for my taste. No children after 7pm

Food is farm fresh and so good. I highly recommend the Duchess Burger, one of the best burgers I've ever had. Their fries with their various aioles (sp?) are so good and not greasy. Their drink selection is phenomenal. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Many people bring their dogs to the outdoor dining area.

The food and drinks are always great! The atmosphere is great too. You will not be disappointed here.

Excellent selection for draft beer. Wide variety of food selection but quality was very average. The Duck Carnitas Tacos were better for appetizer because of its size, Fish and chips was terrible. Tasted like frozen entrees as the batter was soggy with very little fish. Oxe tongue reuben sandwich was nothing special; tasted just like corned beef, plus a little spare with the meat. The best entrée was the farmhouse salad.

Stopped in today as we knew the patio would be open (benefits of living in south Texas in the winter!). As always, great beer selection, tasty food, and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks Danny! We’ll be back

I have been intending to stop in at the Hoppy Monk on 1604 and 281. The atmosphere succeeds as a neighborhood pub with enormous selection of draft and bottled beer. The menu was confusing and somewhat limited. I tried to decipher the offerings, but finally settled on the fish and chips. While the plate looked delicious, the fish batter seemed doughy and tasteless. The tartar sauce was awful with heavy dose of extra lemon. My half eaten plate was picked up without any inquiries about whether I was satisfied or not. On the whole, the 15 dollar entry and 6 dollar beer - the Uptown brown ale was excellent- left me a bit disappointed.

Fabulous setting. Incredible craft beers from independent brewers. Expansive list of wines and liqours. Well done food menu. A variety of superb dishes including a cippino that is to die for. Al fresco garden and an indoor setting that is welcoming. Superb service. One of the best environments i have ever encountered for food and beverage. A must if in San Antonio.

First time there and it was a Sunday early - mid afternoon. Menu was only a brunch menu and pretty small. menu was a little unusual for my taste but I had the Ducks Purgatory and it was really very good - spicy but good. Really liked the place and layout and of course the large number of taps which should make any beer drinker happy. I enjoyed the Left Hand Milk Stout (not easy to find in most pubs) which has to be one of the best beers in the world (my humble opinion of course). Very enjoyable and I hope to be able to stop by there again when in San Antonio and check out their other menu. Very nice outdoor area as well.

Visiting with relatives and decided this was the place. What a great selection of beers (and whiskeys, tequillas, and everything in between). Food was very good. Bar food really. The chicken wings were fantastic, as was the fried cauliflowers and fried brussels sprouts. Rabbit tacos were a first for me. Had a great scotch and stout beer. Outdoor dining in a real relaxed setting. Service was quick and very friendly. Loved this place.

One of the most extensive beer taps I have seen anywhere and a bar that included not only the expected but some out of this world selections of whisky's and bourbons. The food was good, but a bit pricey. Overall, however, if you are looking to quench your thirst with some truly spectacular adult beverages from around the world, this is the place to go!

Over 100 craft beers and great patio to enjoy awesome cigars and the great BEER. The reuben sandwich was to die for and sweet potato fries we perfect. I would a great place for cigar and beer pairings

The beer and other drink selection was incredible. The book listing them was 1/2 inch thick. The food offerings were not so many, just two pages, but the quality of the hamburger was outstanding. Absolutely the best hamburger I have ever had.

Huge selection of beers but also has handcrafted cocktails and wine. My margarita was made with homemade mixer and lemon zest and only $5! My husband had a Maui coconut hiwa porter. Delicious! The food menu is small but the food is high quality. They have a little something for everyone in a nice casual environment.
Highly recommended!
Great food. Chill ambiance. Great service. Fair price. Great beer selection! Also good mix drinks. Wings are perfect crisp and burgers are awesome. Best of all supports local businesses. Go Texas and Happy monk.
