Awesome St. Patrick's Day!

By Lori T |

Live Irish bands during the day; energetic DJ at night. Good crowd control and security, pleasant staff, continuous clean up. Overall a great Block Party!

Great place off the beaten path!

By Dianna W |

We always search for Irish Pubs wherever we travel and The Irish Bank did not disappoint us. Great service and atmosphere, friendly bartenders. Prices are reasonable. Check it out if you're in San Fran for the weekend.

Not as impressed as I'd hoped

By tonyirish |

Came here after a few recommendations and so I had high hopes. We chose to sit outside but there was a strong smell of bleach that stayed with us throughout our visit. Having said that the place was not that clean; the tables and plastic chairs could do with a good scrub, there were cigarette buts in the planters, and the view of the dumpsters (and the dumpster divers) did not help matters. My dish was quite tasty but the others were considered bland. The water and fountain beverages had that chemical taste and the Guinness was just okay.

Great bar close to Union Square.

By Conrad W |

Great bar close to Union Square. Ronan is a great host this is a Must go to place. Good food and sports. I will return when next back in SF

Great pub food

By MTS--1000 |

Went to the Irish Bank for dinner after arriving today in San Francisco. Looking for some place casual and good. It hit the spot. I had the beef stew. It was flavorful and full of beef. My wife had the fish and chips which would have been enough food for both of us. The patio which takes up most of Mark Lane was packed and noisy. The bar was also noisy but the back dining room was acceptable. It quickly filled after we arrived but did not get too noisy. Service was good. The food arrived quickly which was good since we were hungry. Seemed like a fun place to be.

Good food fun atmosphere

By Millie V |

I've eaten here a few times and the food is really good along with the price you pay for it. It has a full bar with old style dining inside and a very cool outdoor area they make the best corn beef sandwich and you get a real grilled burger. There chicken strips and fries are delish ! A must visit

Happy Hour

By Michael M |

Happened to go to dinner during Happy Hour, with lots of younger folks there right after work on a Friday. Lots of folks drinking and having a good time. We were still able to get seated fairly quickly. Stuck with the Irish basics - Guinness and Shepherds pie and they hit the spot. Our waitress was busy, but attentive.

Great Craic in San Francisco

By LePhews |

As travellers from U.K. we appreciated the no-nonsense pub grub this place serves. The bangers, mash and baked beans together with a serve of shepherd's pie hit the spot just right. We sat at the bar, all the better to chat to the friendly Irish barman and meet people from near and far. Best of all, this has the feel of an authentic neighbourhood pub rather than a kit-pub.

Recommend!

By Aerowing |

We ate here on our first night in San Francisco. We arrived on a Sunday and appreciate the fact that this place was open on Sundays as lots of places in the financial district where we were staying aren’t. It’s a nice cozy pub/restaurant with outdoor seating and a big room for dining in the back. Service was good, the beer selection is good as well. I ordered a club sandwich and my wife had the fish and chips. Everything was great tasting and we were both satisfied. It’s located what looks like an alley but just look for the sign. Recommend this place if you’re looking for a nice place to eat or drink.

Great Discovery

By dribera |

We discovered this small Irish pub on a visit years ago and we had to eat/drink here again this week. Off an alley at Mark Lane, there are tables in the alley. One section in the pub for bar patrons and tables in the back with table service. Great menu, she had Irish Stew; I had Shepherd’s Pie. Yummy! I downed two pints, Smithwicks and then Guinness Stout, again both authentic Irish brews, just like this San Fran landmark. Go and raise a pint.

Lovely pub, great staff!

By jaakko k |

This is a pub, not a gourmet restaurant. However, food is nice and is served fast. Not overly expensive for that city area. Can be crowded during evenings, but nice and spacey during lunchtime and afternoon. Staff is super nice, specially one waitress who helped me and gave advice in my first day in the city.

Great Pub tucked away in an alley!!

By Ray K |

This is a great Irish Pub! Tucked away in the back of an alley, you would be hard pressed to find another pub downtown with such a cool vibe and a hardy helping of Fish & Chips!

low quality food

By relaisdeslandes |

The burger was "dry", not gourmet at all. Beer was good. The waitress was new and it was difficult to have precise information on the draught beers. There are plenty of other good places to eat burgers in SF. I won't go back there.

Authentic Irish Bar!

By jackmoore93 |

Probably the best Irish pub I've been to on my travels around the world (excluding Ireland of course) the outside seating area is reminiscent of a Irish pub garden or city bar and the inside is similar to how you would expect an Irish pub to be represented. The bar staff are really nice and they offer happy hour which is a $ off selected drinks between 2-6pm (I think) This pub is a 5 minute walk from Union Square so easily accessible also

Cool Irish pub

By J C |

This is a neat location with an awesome outdoor alley type seating, which they light up at night. We only had drinks here, which were average price and we enjoyed the atmosphere!

Good for a Burger, Great for a game

By ClaudeA654 |

In the heart of the financial district of SF, this pub is excellent for lunch, or to enjoy one of our many championship sports teams. If you want, you can also partake in watching international soccer matches. The crowd is mixed and friendly and the servers are great.

Great place to relax

By Paul B |

We stayed in San Francisco for 4 days. We visited this establishment more than once for meals and a few quiet drinks. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Meals were good and of a good size.

Nice small out of the way bar

By Jim O |

Drinks were well made and bar tender helpful and Irish. Did not have a chance to try the food but looked good

Fun times at The Irish Bank

By GEHBC007 |

A few friends and I checked out The Irish Bank after having dinner elsewhere in North Beach SF. We had one guy with us who had visited here before and highly recommended it. What I can say is we had a blast. We managed to grab 4 consecutive seats at the bar, and had a fun night sampling beers and a few of their drink specials. As a bonus, they had the GSW game on television, so we got to check out Steph Curry make a little magic. Great bar atmosphere, and a friendly bartending duo, we enjoyed our visit to The Irish Bank. Check it out.

Great food!

By thecat222 |

Great little place amongst a lot of other maybe not so good eateries! Good menu selection for drinks and food and friendly service. It's a little off the beaten track but nevertheless you'll be glad you went in! Wearied the fish & chips, Irish stew and bangers & mash. And all tasted great! Would definitely go back. Great job!

Fun crowd

By Dennis A |

Cold Beer! Definitely worth stopping in for a few drinks. Battening staff is extremely friendly. A little hard to find but worth the effort.

Hidden gem, excellent atmosphere!

By Cashmgr2001 |

This was a wonderful, off the beaten path experience! It’s not easy to find…trust Google Maps! But we had a great appetizer platter, lava cake and a few Guinness beers!

Good place to hangout!

By Mytreep |

Loved the atmosphere! Great beer selection. Loved their fish and chips! Bartenders were very friendly and attentive.

Canny place for a pint!

By Kerzy |

Difficult to find at first but once we did it was a great place to grab a drink. Seems that locals use which is always a good sign. Didn’t eat here but those who did seemed to enjoy! Reasonably priced and good happy hour.

Nice place for a beer and food...

By ChavSanti |

Came here after our conference. Great location for large parties since they have outdoor seating for groups of 10+. Table right in the middle of an alley. Can get a little breezy with the draft but drink more beer to keep you warm. Service was fast and friendly. Good selection of Irish bar food... Shepard's Pie, Fish and Chips, etc. I had the Ruben and it was delicious ($13). Thick, crispy, and generously proportioned steak fries. Only CON was they will only do 1 check per table (no splitting). Didn't see much of the inside but happy with the outdoor seating. About a block or so from the lion entrance to Chinatown. Will love to come back the next time I visit.

Avoid this bar

By Liz O |

I visited this bar souly for the Irish breakfast as I am Irish living in america. I was told the breakfast finished at 3pm and it was 3.02. I decided to order the bangers and mash and asked for an egg to be added. She told me this could not be done as it was past 3pm??????? The service was terrible, I mean really bad!!! She had no interest on checking on the table.. The mash was instant mash and cold.. the sausages were ok.. My husband got the fish and chips.. the fish was over done and the curry sauce was vile!!! My husband manages an Irish bar in florida and I am a bartender there and we were both horrified at the level of service.. The decor is tacky Irish so we were not inpressed. My advice is save your money and go somewhere else.

Great stop while visiting China Town

By ColleenQD |

We didn't expect to eat lunch at the Irish Bank when we visited China Town... It just happened that way, and we couldn't have been more pleased. We traveled as a family with three kids, the kids were doubtful and asked us if it was appropriate for them to go in to a "bar" but we took a look and assured them, it was fine! There were even other families with children in the dining room, so we felt pretty comfortable. The staff was pleasant and the food was varied enough for each of us to find something we liked (which is tough with kids who can be picky). I had the Irish Beef Stew, the husband got the cheesesteak (which was probably the only slightly disappointing item, not enough cheese), kid one got a side of smoked salmon and the quesadilla, kid two got the wings, and kid three (our German exchange student) got the bratwurst and sauerkraut (to which he gave a German stamp of approval, said it tasted like home). We were all full and happy upon leaving. We had no beers though. Just water. So, sadly, can't report on that.

Good food, great value!

By Greenvilledan |

We just retuned from a two week trip in Ireland. The Fish and Chips and Irish stew were great and reasonably priced. The service was good. I recommend!

Worst Calamari we ever tasted!

By Dac_craig |

Good place for a beer and fun atmosphere but spoiled by the driest and toughest calamari we have ever been served. All after a tasty bowl of fries. Might have been a one off?

Just so-so.

By ScotsLass29 |

We went in for a drink and maybe some food on Easter Sunday. First off, the whole place smelled like a combo of Fabuloso and bleach. It seemed every wooden surface had been sprayed down with it. Not very appealing or appetizing. There was one bartender/server and one busboy/runner. We ordered chicken wings and fish and chips. The food was not bad, it came out quickly and was hot, but the fries did not seem fresh. The tartar sauce was very runny. Wing sauce was very tasty though - I think it's home-made. On the whole, the place did not seem very professional. Another off-duty server/bartender came in and engaged with our bartender over the fact that she couldn't drink Irish Whisky anymore, and drinking stories/crazy nights were exchanged loudly. We hurried and finished our drinks and food and got out of there. I would not go back.

Great hamburger, fun environment

By TexasLight |

We had walked by this place several times and decided to try it when the rest of our family wanted stayed in for the evening. My daughter and I split a cheeseburger and fries, and each had a Blueberry Cosmopolitan. The burger and fries was GREAT, and we're from Texas. They even split the burger for us and gave us each our own plates with fries. We weren't as impressed with the drinks but we like sweet cocktails so they might have been fine for someone else. We really enjoyed sitting outside, quiet on a Sunday night and we enjoyed people watching.

Okay food, horrible service

By awesome_advisor123 |

First, I ordered the onion potato soup and it was so hot I could not eat it until dessert came. The waiter sassed me when the burger came because I had not eaten the soup yet. The burger was decent enough, but there was not a good bread to meat ratio. When I had the time to get to my soup, it wasn't even good.

Nice little irish pub

By whiteytowers52 |

we went in here twice once for drinks and then once for food. Both times were good for the drinks the barman was great so friendly and made us feel very welcome was sad to leave at the time but we had things to do. The food is pub food but nice all the same would recommend this was the only place in SF that we went to twice it was also so local to our hotel which was great

Good Irish pub

By John and Les C |

Went to the Irish Bank a few times for lunch and a beer - down an alley but don't be put off - very charming inside; friendly staff and good values drinks and pub food - good curry too!

Saint Patrick's Day celebration

By Bri Reynolds |

We were visiting from Salt Lake City and stopped here for Saint Patty's Day fun! We had fish & chips, Sheppard's pie, and corned beef. The fish & chips were a little underdone (but still good), the Sheppard's pie was not the best, but they outdid themselves with the corned beef! It was tender and so flavorful. The bands were fun and the atmosphere festive. I'm glad we stopped in!

Great unpretentious pub with outside seating, nice staff and good food

By Michelle P |

Have spent a couple of nights here this week after full days of sight seeing in San Fran. We came because we like Irish pubs and like outside seating that is not on the street (esp in San Fran where there are too many 'crazies' wandering about). Outside seating is plentiful and un-pretentious - yes it is in an alleyway but is nicely lit and 'crazy'-free, and smoking is allowed. Outside seating is attended to by staff. We were served both nights by Gillian, who was absolutely brill - fast to sort the order, didn't mind us changing our mind about another drink, and genuinely friendly and helpful - chatted to us about getting to the airport and got us a number of local pick up service that was way cheaper than getting a taxi, and more convenient than struggling with public transport. Good choice of drinks and had a variety of wines (e.g. oyster bay sauvignon - not just standard wine). Prices for drinks are reasonable for the area - especially as they are brought to you. We got a dish to share each night (having eaten earlier) and can recommend the homemade macaroni cheese - again food prices are reasonable. Loos and inside bar are nice and whole place has a nice safe feel about it. Seems to be frequented by a mix of people who want to have a chat and drink in relaxed surroundings (mainly couples, or groups of friends, rather than families) Much preferred it to Foley's which we found noisy, no outside and more expensive. Came with sister, October 2015.

Worth a Visit!

By psglos |

This bar is tucked away near Chinatown. It has a great outside seating space and a nice bar area. We sat outside as it was still warm and it had a good atmosphere. Reasonable prices for San Francisco, we bought 4 alcoholic drinks for less than $30, including taxes. We didn't eat here, but the food looked really good. Only 1 downside, the Wi-Fi wasn't good outside. But overall a very good bar.

Yummy pub food for pretty good prices

By This M |

I love the decor and sitting outside! We had Mac & Cheese, fries, the Reuben, and chicken strips. All were great! Service was really slow but I think there was only one waitress for the entire place. We enjoyed this place and if in the area, will be back again.

Classic Irish pub/restaurant experience

By Patrick A |

The Irish dishes like the stew and sandwiches were great. The curry was also very good. Nice choice of beers. There were the many Irish signs and old things on the walls and in the bathrooms. No Irish music of course, just 70s rock blasting away. The alley was full of seating as well. A fine experience.

Irish pub

By piaHongKong |

An Irish pub in the alley. Strangely located, lighted in red! But it's good to sit an the alley to sip a glass of wine when the weather is good. Price is average. Waiters are lazy and don't want you to bother them.

Fun Irish Pub

By goodstar40 |

Good fish and chips, good bar, and cute private booth if you get it. Great place to have a drink or two as you bar hop around town.

Noisy, lively pub with good food at reasonable prices

By Squidhead |

San Francisco has so many options for food. We wanted to stay in a particular area and pay a reasonable price. This pub fit the bill. The food was varied and very good. It was JUMPING when we were there, some happy hour company groups (we thought) who were having a VERY happy time. I can see why this pub is popular.

Delish!!

By MSanchez |

Loved, loved, loved their pomegranate margarita!! I could have them alllll night! Hubby and I stumbled upon this place while walking union square. We were immediately attracted to this place by the laid back atmosphere. Perfect happy hour spot! Yummy cocktails!

Friendly staff

By AndyNic14 |

Visited this great bar a couple of times and just sat at the bar and had food and drinks. The staff are really friendly and are happy to chat. The food is good and the wide choice of beers are served ice cold as you would expect. The prices are very reasonable too, we would definitely go visit again.

Hearty Fare in the heart if the City

By Bill A |

The Irish Bank, in addition to being a rowdy Irish pub, offers hearty, better than average, traditional Pub food. The Bratwurst and Sauerkraut was excellent. Brats were grilled crisp and the kraut had just the right taste of vinegar with a delicious German mustard on the side. A perfectly poured Guinness topped off the meal. Highly recommended.

Fun bar

By Jeana L |

Definitely one of the better Irish bars in Cali, but California isn't well known for Irish bars. Therefore, it definitely wasn't the best one I've been too. But it was great in that it had a lot of character and the waiters were fantastic and friendly and the food was good!

Had one drink and left

By Mark |

Rude grumpy service so didn’t eat here. Not sure what was wrong with the barman but he seemed more interested in the TV or his phone than doing his job

Very average joint

By mariothetraveller |

Very average joint, don’t bother please. Super unwelcoming, expensive for what at is and hardly any atmosphere

Ignored

By William@ C |

Great location. Slow night. Bartender ignored us. If you want service go somewhere else. Recommend Foley’s instead. Great service. Great location.

We only had Irish coffee

By Tina C |

My son and I went on an after Christmas outing to SF. We had brunch at Cafe de la Presse nearby and had planned to try an Irish coffee at Buena Vista a couple of miles away (because of the Emeril hype about it). Since neither of us had ever had Irish coffee before, we wanted to see if it was worth going that far just for coffee so we popped into The Irish Bank. I had heard they had great Irish coffee so we went inside. We first visited the restrooms and were pleasantly surprised. That may sound strange, but some of the SF bathrooms are not so great. This one felt like a real Irish pub (which I have been to in Ireland). Anyway, that was just the bathroom! LOL The feel of the bar was very genuine as well. There were only a couple other patrons when we were there so the bartender was able to chat with us a bit. The Irish coffee was EXCELLENT!!! We made the trip to Buena Vista, but after having The Irish Bank's coffee we were very disappointed. We will be returning to have lunch and more Irish coffee very soon!

Comfortable place to eat and drink

By Ward50 |

Friendly staff. Food was really nice and served fairly quickly. Sat at the bar area and it felt very comfortable and enjoyable. Woud definitely go there again if in San Francisco.

Awesome Alleyway Seating, while it's open.

By The_Roaming_Raven |

A pretty small place on the inside, but as the evening was winding down their outdoor seating in the alleyway was perfect to have a great conversation, but was soon closed and we were forced inside with only seating left in the restaurant side of the building in a very brightly lit room. I'd be willing to try it again earlier in the evening, but not to end the night.

A GREAT Irish Bar - Better than many in Ireland

By Niall Doran |

I am so glad that we found this little Irish Bar which is nestled in a lane near Union Sqaure in San Francisco. I am not lieing when I say that it is better than many of the bars back home here in Ireland. The service was amazing, the food was amazing and the prices were very decent. We recieved good value for money and great service and the only thing I regret is that we didn't get the names of the waiters and waitresses so that we could praise them on here. Good Job - I would highly recommend!

Happy Irish Pub

By Adrian G |

After visiting China Town in SF we looked for a place to have dinner besides Chinese. We found the Irish Bank in Mark Lane. It was very busy with tables inside and outside. They soon found a table for us and we ordered some very good pub food and beers. The staff is made up of young people and very helpful. We were happy that we had stumbled on this place and enjoyed the evening very much.

A great place to meet a gang for beers & burgers

By amp94596 |

Nothing fancy but a good value location in downtown to meet friends and especially a group for beer and burgers or fish and chips.

Great beer and food

By krazykev |

Stopped in here for a quick beer and stayed for a while. Great staff with great beer knowledge, big range of beers. Had the chilli and it was good I'd certainly come back again

A Really Great Bar with a Great Atmosphere

By Michael W |

We came across the Irish Bank on a previous holiday back in 2014. The Bar is located off Bush Street near to Dragons Gate and a short walk from Union Square. The bar is very popular and has a really great atmosphere and can be really busy at times. Shortly after we arrived in San Francisco we made our way here and ordered drinks and food. We had the Irish Stew thinking it would be warm and tasty. Unfortunately on this occasion neither was true. The meal was not very nice and quite cold we decided not to make a fuss about this and enjoyed the rest of the evening listening to music, chatting and people watching. A really great place, but such a shame about the food quality.

Euro Cup 2016 watching!!! Great location

By Paris4us063 |

We stopped by early on Sunday to get our seats at the bar to watch the euro cup. There was a $10.00 minimum. We had fish and chips- the food was good. Great atmosphere. You could sit inside or out. A fun place to watch a sporting event and get some good food. Great crowd.

Good value tasty food

By Kerry C |

This became our local as we were in the hotel next door. Staff were friendly the food was very tasty good pub fare at reasonable prices. Would certainly go back

Poor pint of Guinness

By Susan |

Dark and miserable inside the pub. Not busy or bustling so doesn't feel like it's Irish at all. Outside is better but in a back street and the wind really chills you. Wouldn't go out of your way to find this pub. Didn't eat there but food served to others looked like normal pub grub.

Cool pub

By Rick B |

Stopped in for lunch while waiting for our room to be ready. Cool atmosphere. Sat in an alley with a few others and order the fish tacos and my girlfriend ordered fish and chips. Both meals were good and the beers were cold. It was a great place to start or trip and I would recommend a lunch or dinner here.

Great Place

By Welshgirl63 |

All the staff were great except for one who was ignorant. The bar was packed both nights we called with a great vibe. The Guiness is great and the vodka and orange was strong! We had food on the second night, the shepherds pie was divine and the fish and chips was very tasty. The waitress was really friendly and the waiter with the drinks was very funny and cheerful. Very close ro Chinatown - call in, you will not be disappointed

Great value - Hidden Gem in Union Square District

By NielsNybo |

This is a hidden gem! Not showing up on our mobile phones and it just pops up in an alley. I looks shady but it's 100% cool and safe. Staff is 100% service minded but busy. The food is good - I got the Irish Strew and it was delicious. Around $15 for the main courses. Drinks are cheap compared to other restaurants in the Union Square area. I will definitely come back!

I love European-type bars

By Lien G |

My husband and I love the European-type bars and this Irish Bank did not disappoint. It is located down a side alley and is akin to something you would see down the alleys of London or Dublin. The inside of the pub and woody and dark (again, something you would expect) with a wide variety of beers and libation. Great place to rest your feet and have a cold one while exploring the streets of San Francisco.

Don't go hungry...

By R1362PTmark |

They serve Guinness like tap water so you can count on it being fresh here. So while the beer won't disappoint the food will. I highly suggest you eat anywhere else before winding down your evening here. The meal offerings are uninspiring, typical and unhealthy for the most part. SF has so many wonderful dining establishments that you need not waste a meal ticket here.

A hidden gem

By OurAdventures2 |

We chose to eat here as we were staying local and reviews were good. It's tucked away down a alley but as you turn the corner it's a lovely little area. We sat outside and were greeted and seated quickly. Food arrived quick and was very tasty. Staff were friendly.

Hidden treasure

By 196LindaC |

This was the first place we visited upon arriving to San Francisco. It is a hidden gem on an alleyway. The food was very good and not too pricey. The brick walls gave the establishment a bit of old time charm.

Not good and over priced.

By TritonTravel |

Ordered the Irish stew and the grilled chicken, no sooner we had placed the order and the meal was being served. Irish stew was luke warm and was a very small portion, grilled chicken had clearly been re-heated and wasn't hot at all along with the vegetables. The best thing about it was the small scoop of mashed potato served with the chicken. We got a pint of Laganitas and a half pint of Guinness to go with it and the total came to $45. Really should of spoke up and said something but just left half of the meals paid the money and left.

Hidden gem at the back of an ally

By michael p |

Don’t let the construction near the Dragons Gate (chinatown) put you off. As you’re walking up Grant Ave, make the turn on Harlan Place and head to the end, open up the red door - and enjoy a unique Irish Pub experience. All the employees will take care of you, and as you take a look around - you’ll immediately feel at home, like you belong. Had a great time.

Great bar staff and best jukebox ever!

By Lydia S |

Friendly bar staff, do a great Margarita or two... chatty, lovely atmosphere! The jukebox has the most awesome collection of songs, extremely extensive, from old favorites to new! Warm inviting atmosphere, they also serve food which looked good but as we only went for drinks did not try this. Decked out really well, off a lane way so don't miss it" Would go back in a heartbeat!

My first Guinness - Loved it!

By kbqhills |

This was a super fun Irish restaurant. I had a reuben, which actually was not the best one I have ever had but I didn't really care because I loved the atmosphere of the place!

Great place

By calandfal |

Went here every night when we was in San San Francisco great food and staff.we always had a laugh well done to all the staff

Great Pub

By Peter S |

It is located at 10 Mark lane, which is off Bush St, near the corner of Grant (Chinatown Gate). It is very popular with the office crowd. I recommend getting there before 5pm as it quickly fills up. My wife is very good cook and she loved their ribs and Shepherds pie.

Pub Food

By Gonzology |

Caugfht inn a blistering heat wave we were delighted to be seated in the alley next to a traditional Irish pub. I much enjoyed a local ale. The Shepherd's pie was tasty but so sall we had to order some sides. The traidfition Irish stew, served at another table looked like the better option. Exploring inside it had a fun and cozy decor but on this night we opted to b eat the heat.

Hard to find, but worth it

By suezeke41 |

After wandering up and down Post Street, we finally found this place. Were seated immediately even though there were 8 of us. Waiter was very attentive. Food was good, especially the Irish Stew. I ordered a side of mashed with my Shepherd's Pie and it was really good.

Irish stew was amazing

By markmik |

Stopped here for dinner on a rainy day. The pub has prints on every wall and everywhere about Ireland even the bathrooms. Staff very good and the food was great - well my Irish stew was amazing!

A True Hidden Gem

By Schatze |

Off the beaten path you'll find this quaint and wonderful Irish Bar. They have decent pub fare, plenty of drinks, and the best atmosphere. The staff are wonderful. I'd love to come back when it's warmer to enjoy their extensive patio.

Awesome Pub and Very Lively

By Rowan F |

Found this by accident. Its at the end of a laneway, but don't let the location fool you. Its very popular and lively. Good Selection of beers on tap as well as single malts. We didn't eat here, so we cannot comment on the food, but it was a great place for a pint.

Great pub

By Chook31 |

Finally we found a pub that has a great environment and food! highly recommend you visit when in San Francisco.

Unwelcoming Environment

By confusedfoxx |

I am Irish and when I tried to go in I was refused entry because I didn't have a "valid ID". I showed my Age Card (which is issued by the police in Ireland), and when that was declined I also showed a Public Health card (issued by state) and a student ID (issued by national university) and still I was told no, even though all of them clearly stated my age (24, by the way). I was told I needed either a driver's license (which I don't have) or a passport (which I of course wasn't carrying around San Francisco with me in case I lost it). Also, I was arriving from work at 7pm in the evening - this wasn't a 1am occurrence or anything. Felt very unwelcome and would never want to go there again in the future.

Nice pub with outdoor seating

By Ed M |

Come here on a warm day and sit outside to tip back a couple pints. Nice little Irish pub near the financial district. The music is American but they have a nice selection of Irish Whiskey and yes, even a few Scotches.

Good food and atmosphere

By Ross A |

I ate here and had a couple of drinks this afternoon. There was lots of outdoor seating which was nice as the weather was good. They had a good selection of beers, the service was good and the shepherds pie was really tasty.

In for a Pint

By Conchobar |

Walking around San Francisco and spied down an ally a familiar toucan and convinced the family to follow after hearing "sketchy" from my daughter. While this ally did not project the nicest approach, it worked for me and turned out not to be the primary entryway. Upon entry the pub open up and is decent sized with a table service area, separate bar area and outside seating (see picture). We were seated in the snug, a converted confessional, between the bar and seating area. The Irish Bank pours a good pint and at the proper temperature. So many places the Guinness is too cold. The remainder of the family enjoyed different selections from their sizable draft offerings and we shared some nachos. The nachos were quite good as the chicken involved was grilled and very tasty. A very nice stop with a good pint.

I love this pub

By Laurie H |

I am very impressed with this place. Great prices, Guinness is fantastic and it's very well located. Whoever owns it has done well to balance a high level of service and great pricing. The shepherds pie was really good.

A Very ecent Irish Bar

By Bill H |

Good food and good drinks. I can always go for a Guinness once in a while. Bar is small, but so are all in San Fran, or so it seems. Go on an off night or time if you want a seat at the bar.

So-so

Had some lunch a a drink here, the food we had was just a few starters, and it was okay, nowt wrong with it, the issue we had was with the drinks, the post mix coke was very weak, the waitress changed it for a lemonade and a ginger beer, both of which were fine. I had a pint of Stella cidre, it was cold and refreshing and really sweet, hit the spot initially, but the more I drank it the more it didn't seem right, it had a home-brew type of smell and taste, being a Scotsman I finished it anyway and went on our way.

Laid back, casual dining

By Trip65027558738 |

The food was good, casual bar food. The ambiance was laid back, and the staff made us feel welcome. Try the cheese fries!

Pleasant, crowded place

By Casualtraveler99 |

Good beer, good buzz, adequate, not inspiring pub food. I had the non meat burger, which was fine as long as there was enough cheese. A fun place, though. Lots of folks drinking and having fun.

Good food and great service

By ALifeMapped |

The menu is simple, but the food is good for the very reasonable prices. Nothing Irish on the menu that I could see, but that's common of 'Irish' pubs abroad :-) They have a large amount of outside seating and the atmosphere inside was nice and relaxed. Good little spot for a bite and/or a drink.

Nice Irish pub with good food

By Julia M |

We had dinner and it was great: Irish stew and Reuben sandwich. The stew was delicious, the meat melted in my mouth and it was really tasty. Reuben sandwich was tasty too, the bread was perfect (it was regular sandwich bread) and it came with a bunch of fries. They have a large menu of beers, as you can expect from a Irish pub. The place is big and nice for night drinks and they have tables in the alley for smokes or to enjoy the night out.

A fine Irish pub

By Midnight Rambler |

We stopped here for a few quick drinks and some appetizers. We had the calamari, cheddar fries ,with bacon added, and the wings cooked well done. We enjoyed everything and the Guinness was very fresh . That have a good selection of Irish whiskey and we sampled quite a few of them . I will say we did stay longer than expected mostly due to the warm welcoming staff , this is the first time I have been there but the bartenders made me feel like a regular, I was told this was the most authentic Irish pub in the city and after a few hours there I don’t doubt it . I would return without hesitation the next time I am in town .

Happy Hour!

By Zachary H |

Friendly service, great outdoor seating and a very reasonable happy hour (until 6:00 during the work week). We love the Irish Bank! 🍀

Wont accept Irish Drivers licence wtf

By Audrey F |

Went here for food tonight was asked for ID when ordering drinkshowever would not accept an Irish Drivers license which is bizarre for a pub which claims to be an Irish bar, had been here the previous day and was no issue accepting this form of ID, waiter extremely rude, will not be back, no issue in any another bar in san fran. Would not recommend this self proclaimed Irish bar for any visiting Irish tourists. Shocking treatment as 37 year old couple on honeymoon!

Great Irish Bar

By Ken S |

When the bartenders and waitress's all have Irish accents you know you are in the right place. Very real deal, not a cheap knockoff. Above average pub food, great energy level. A classic.

Worth the wait. A typical Irish Bar & Restaurant with great food and atmosphere !

By Craig E |

We were not able to pre-book via any website so turned up and it was full. So called ahead the following day and they said to come around 6pm for Dinner. We did and managed to get in and be seated. Traditional food with a very good selection. The Brits love Bangers, Mash and Beans and all our food was piping hot, of good sized portions and tasty. Worth the visit !

If you love drinks as much as I do, you will learn to love this spot. It has many finger food while they prepare the drinks.

Great Irish pub in an alley

By Michael N |

Another bar we have found very comfortable. This one can be a bit hard to find and it's mid-way down an alley. Over the years we come back to it, it's become very popular with a young, business crowd. So, if you get there between 5 and 7p, plan to join a large group of 20 to 30 somethings. Food is good. Service is great.

Good simple Bar Food

By RustyWater |

Had an early dinner before the Giants game. Great dive bar. Good selection of beer and a simple menu with typical Irish bar food. The Shepard’s pie was hot and delicious. The fish and chips had large pieces of fish with a good batter fried to a golden brown. Crispy and crunchy with a good tasting fish cooked properly. The vinegar and tarter sauce were good condiments to improve. The chips(fries) were tasty as well. Black and Tan beer was a good choice for this meal. Great service, we ate in the bar, definitely a place for a good meal and beer.

Fun place for drinks and good bar snacks

By droppinout |

Typical Irish pub with great drinks, attentive bartenders and great bar food. It was down the alley on the side of a sushi restaurant but not very hard to find. We enjoyed it!

Great beer, average reuben

By dw1ght |

Great beer selection and fresh Guinness. The "famous" reuben sandwich is with dry and tough corned beef. The fish and chips are great.

Fun alley pub

By Sue P |

We enjoyed sitting in the little laneway between 2 downtown busy streets. The food and service was good- we had hamburgers, fries and beer. Good late afternoon meal after Chinatown tour.

Drinks are great!

By HajibAli |

The setting of this bar has a historical feel to it. I love how they can make a drink that was special to the locals here.

Tasty and filling

By mel1637 |

To be honest this was the best meal we had by far in the city in terms of value for money. Yes its slightly more expensive than British pub food prices but for SF it was reasonable and we found portions filling! Had the shepherds pie ($10) and a burger ($13) which were both really tasty. Good thick chips (fries) too. Nice vibe especially outside in the alley. Would go back for sure.

Ireland in SF

By Bruce G |

Eclectic, charming, friendly, decently priced. Good food, wine and beer. Definitely a place to hang out near Chinatown and Union Square.

I just love it

By Tamara M |

The place is realy cute, food good enough.. the price is realy reasonable... Stuff friendly and fast.. I loved it......

No consistency.

By xxxWL |

On Saturday the 10th October we visited the bar. Had a great welcome, enjoyed the food and overall a great service. We decided to return the following evening, was disappointed and surprised by our experience. We bought drinks and asked about food. Was told to pick a table in bar, restaurant or outside. We chose the resturant and sat down. There were a total of five people already eating. There we stayed and was completely ignored by the waitress, not even any eye contact. She checked the other customers but completely ignored us. I asked a bar member of staff that perhaps we had made a mistake and should have been seated. He said he would speak to service staff. We waited again, nobody acknowledged us or came. After 10 mins we left and won't return again.

No Crowd Sunday

By Christine N |

Stopped in for drinks and snacks while waiting for a pick up to the airport. Friendly Staff, Fast Service and good food. Due to being in the Financial District they are not crowded on weekends. Great Place to Relax.

irish bank

By oxo8 |

Fantastic bar food nice not many tourists in declan makes you feel welcome relaxed but lively spot on

Best Irish Coffee!

By msfetch |

We are a group seeking the best Irish Coffee in the Bay area. So far, we think The Irish Bank is the best we have found so far! Food is good, basic pub food...we shared appetizers rather than main courses. Service was friendly, funny, and cheerful. Would go back next time I'm wanting Irish Coffee and a friendly place to sit with friends.

Lively place with great food.

By Dartravelgirl |

We had a great meal and great fun at The Irish Bank. We sat outside which is the place to be. Super busy for a Thursday. Tables are first come first serve. I had the bratwurst. Flavorful. I highly recommend The Irish bank.

Hidden and awesome

By Simi D |

We went there every single night we were in SF. Great music, friendlyvstaff, good beer on tap, and fun outdoor seating in the alley. Hands down my fave bar of our SF portion!

Great pit stop post touring around.

By LANDASTEWART |

Great pit stop post touring around. Nice outdoor patio. I enjoyed the food and location. Service was 'ok' could have been a bit better by checking in to top up drinks. It was busy with locals, which is always a telling factor of a good place.

Pub Oasis

By Patti S |

Doing a tourist stroll through San Fran around Union Square on a sunny, August weekday. Thirsty. Hot. First we saw the pub sign, ahhh, beer. Then we see there, tucked between two buildings in the side alley they have created a little outdoor oasis. It shields you from street noise and smells, it's shaded, they have numerous signs on the wall of varying ages. Some humerous, some adverts, but pub style. A nice atmosphere. We only had calamari (they served it with ketchup. It's okay, we were there for the beer). The service was very good, we never went thirsty.

Good Night

By Russell House 65 |

had an enjoyable night there drinking and have an Pub meal, which was surprisingly better than expected/

This place could be great.

By Shane F |

I have frequented The Irish Bank on many occasions over the years and have always had a good experience.I have never walked out thinking "I will never come back here again." A big group of us met up for nibbles a couple of drinks after work. As the evening was a bit cool outside, we chose to eat and drink inside. We were a bit perplexed to find that there was no table service indoors, but there is when you are seated outside? Getting over a first world problem, we ordered our food and drinks at the bar. I ordered a 10 Barrel IPA and Chicken Quesadillas. The beer was hoppy, fruity and very refreshing. The food was promptly delivered to our tables, hot and inviting. I devoured my plate of food, tucking into the salsa, sour cream and guacamole that accompanied it. I look forward to returning in the summer months, sitting in the alleyway and enjoying a beer. Value for money was good and atypical of the local area. Beer was $6 and quesadillas were six in total, priced at $12.95.

Nice Place

By Audrey T |

Came upon this pub by chance and was grateful that it was a place to have a nice cool drink in a shady place after walking in the sum. Very busy place and reckon it would have got busier after 5pm when the business crowd came in. Liked it

Super cozy and lods of beers

By OlemCopenhagen |

This is my preferred pit stop in hilly SF. Lots of local IPAs and other beers to choose from, not to nozy and very friendly service.

Top marks for this Irish Pub

By Jolismiller |

This is a tiny little place tucked away in the alley...which makes it even more of an excellent find. As you walk in, you'll find the place a little dark and cramped and deliciously Irish. We took a seat at the bar to chat with our bartender who had an incredibly awesome Irish accent. My husband ordered the steak, I had fish tacos, and of course we both had a Guiness to go with our meal. The food was excellent, the prices were pretty good (compared to the surrounding city, we felt like we got a great deal for our meal!), and the atmosphere was just what we were looking for. Next time we visit the city, we will be sure to come back to this place.

Great for a few drinks

By Maggiemayday |

WE stopped by for a couple drinks at the bar. Busy on a Friday night, but still friendly and fast service. Drinks were quite good at the usual area prices. Great cheerful atmosphere. We didn't try the food, but where we were sitting, we could see the bar orders coming out, and it looked fantastic.

Very nice traditional Irish pub atmosphere.

By William M |

Go to authentic Irish style pub in downtown San Francisco. Good fish and chips and very good Guinness beer. It can get busy at times but they have two dining rooms and of course a bar.

Great stop for cider, fish, and chips

By kkwiatko74 |

Stopped in for a cider and a quick meal. Service was pleasant. Ordered fish and chips, which were served quickly and tasted good (although slightly greasy). They have a nice seating area in the alley which would be nice for a group of people on a warm evening. Would definitely stop in again.

Great bar/pub, forgettable food

By Carlos S |

This is a great bar, particularly if you can sit outside during a nice afternoon. The drink menu is extensive and somewhat unique (e.g. had a pomegranate margarita). Although Chinatown is around the corner, my colleagues chose to stay for dinner. The food is not excellent, but rather typical of an average bar. Enjoy drinks in the cul-de-sac and then go for dinner in a more interesting place in the area.

Has potential, but maybe an off-night

By Apollo_Diablo |

This place is down an alley, and if it wasn't for the reviews, there's no way I would have gone here. It turned out to be just OK. The fish and chips was about the same as you can get anywhere (granted I wasn't expecting anything fantastic from them). The poor waitress had the entire outside area to herself I think (probably close to 50+ people -- all of us seated at large communal tables), and she was completely overwhelmed. It took about 45 minutes just to get the check, but at least the people next to me were cool.

Worse meal

By Christina W |

The place is nice but the service and the rest isn't at all..we were served a coke which tasted bitter like there was only soda water in it and the coke mix was running low when asked if it was possible to change it the waitress replied with this is how we serve it here which is strange as this was our 3rd day in San Francisco and have not experienced this with coke anywhere else. She said "europeans seem to have an issue with it" So we were just given tap water as a replacement. When the food came which was nice but we were not asked how our meal was at all or if we needed anything else. We actually didn't see the waitress at all and it was a different waiter that came to our table. When the bill came we were still not asked anything and was only given a chance to only glance at the bill I believe that we were charged for the cokes even though we didn't even touch them. Would never recommend this place to anyone!

"A Hidden Oasis"

By Trish P |

Temperature in the city that day was 100 degrees, but the Irish Banks' outdoor seating in an alley makes a perfect breezeway that was as refreshing as their cocktails and as good as their Reuben sandwich!

Great Service

By CharlieV2011 |

As soon as I entered, I was promptly greeted by the nice gentleman behind the bar. The service provided by him was perfect. I was quickly provided with the Guinness I ordered and the food was quick and tasty. Great service! If all servers provided this great level of customer service, dining out would be a perfect experience. Thank you!

A lovely spot

By Bondy |

We enjoyed a quiet dinner and drinks. The wings were great. Very generous with the blue cheese on the blue cheese fries. Definitely worth a look.

Very good & a reasonable price

By Paularoughley |

The Irish stew was very tasty. Good choice for vegetarians too. I enjoyed the vegetable curry. Drinks are a reasonable price for near Union Square, $7 for a glass of Merlot. The service was very efficient and the staff are friendly. Worth a trip.

Classic "must-visit" in San Francisco

By SAN DIEGO TRAVELER |

Irish bar & pub with very authentic flavor. Great eats...Guinness on draft, and Mac and Cheese like no other. Great alley seating.....locals hang out for sure!

Hidden Gem

By Dulux72 |

This place is tucked away off of Bush but is worth the search. The pints of Guinness were the best that we've had outside of Ireland and my wife polished off the Irish Stew in a heartbeat. The fish and chips were great and the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. What more could you ask for ?

a Good Pub!!

By DaCoach61 |

Excellent Beer List, Very Good Irish Whiskey!! We had the Lentil soup, they say you can judge a place by the soup, A+ Delicious!!

Terrific!

By Bunny |

TA reviews led us to this bar near our hotel and we loved the experience. There was a big basketball match on, but we found a private little booth and had a very enjoyable dinner. A large plate of delicious baby back ribs with coleslaw (crunchy, not drenched in dressing) to share. The photo shows the plate divided. A small plate of excellence Caesar Salad also to share. A bottle of Robert Mondavi Merlot, plus an extra glass of it and a Bushmills whiskey. With great, prompt, friendly service. $75. Really great value. Highly recommended.

Great "old" Irish bar & restaurant.. get beer not food :-)

By OCDane |

Great fun old style Irish pub. They serve food, but it is not great.. stick with the beer.. They have outside tables and that is rare in SF so I would go just for that.. (if the weather is good)

Good food: Good atmoshere: great staff!

By Kathryn T |

The food is what you would expect from a "British pub": that isn't to say it is bad:it is really good. The staff are brilliant always ready for a chat and a smile: and the two televisions gives someone on their own a nice view point. Could do with better air conditioning but as 90% of the clientele are sat outside in the breeze who cares! Great place! Will call again!

Great food and service at a reasonable price!

By greg |

Great authentic Irish pub atmosphere. Had delicious fish and chips with yummy blue cheese fries. I'll be back! Good friendly service.

Great Place

By Weatwood |

We stumbled across this place after nights of fairly expensive Italian, Chinese, French etc etc restaurants. Sitting in the alley was fun, the Guinness was genuinely lovely, the food was exactly what my three kids wanted - I enjoyed it too. Also, and finally, a lively and happy atmosphere.

Afternoon drinks

By Elaine T |

Came upon this bar by chance, we didn’t have anything to eat but did stay for drinks and were there quite a while, the service was good, toilets are nice and clean. There is an outside seating area also)

Great Irish bar

By Borobird68 |

This ended up being our favourite bar in SF, we came three or four times. We had lunch one day and the Reuben's sarny was great. They also show all the UK and European football, this is where we saw Leicester win the PL. the bar staff are friendly and they have lots of beers to chose from.

Hidden Pub

By Peter L |

I wanted to have an Irish dinner and this place is very comfortable. It looks like a pub that could have been plucked out of Ireland. It is deceiving on how to get in. You may walk into the door... and you are in a Sushi bar. It is in an alley (though it is suppose to be a street). I had the Irish Stew and it was delicious. My wife had the burger and she is hard to please on burgers and she loved it. Desert was good. Had most of the typical Irish beer; Smithwick, Harp, Guinness. Waitress was sometimes hard to understand... but a very nice person. Enjoyed talking to her.

Nice Folk ... palatable beer ..

By TroyDal |

Ambiance and decor are fine, the pub is tucked down a back alley that gives a sense of intimacy that works well .. the serving staff are happy and fun .. Beer was OK but not great .. food was pedestrian .. Wouldn't be coming back until I had tried some of the other offers around the area

Loved the easierness about this place

By Kathryn R |

We loved visiting here for some quick easy drinks. Love the patio seating in the ally way. Appreciated the quick service and fun music.

I had a pint and just saw people eat

By atjf56 |

Good place to have a pint for sure. I did not eat but saw people eat. Their steamy pot pie looked good. A place to go back to..

Great little spot

By Ed L |

Hidden away and very authentic Irish bar. Nice selection and food was on point. Even had some outside seating. Lots of neat stuff to view on the walls and the bartender was great. Stop in and check it out.

Great Atmosphere

By Jane Costello |

The atmosphere here was unbelievable, the staff were very friendly and enthusiastic to answer all our questions about the different drinks. Cant wait to return!

Good Rustic Food

By markross25 |

Read a few reports to say slow service but we never experienced any. In fact to the contrary. Had potato skins and irish stew, just what I needed after dining out for 2 weeks. Outside was busy but we were happy to sit inside. Great if you fancy a good old fashioned meal the way the Irish bars can do them.

Really friendly pub

By THM1 |

Lovely friendly staff and the food was very good value. Visited a few times over our five day stay and would definitely recommend this bar.

Irish style pub visit for a pint and a bite

By Hilary D |

We really did feel like we were back in Dublin! The bar had everything you could ask for and a nice food selection that included Irish Stew. We tried the club and Reuben sandwiches and both were deliciously filling. Just off of Bush Street the the China Town Dragon Gate and tucked in an alley. The location uses the traffic-free alley for outdoor seating, but must folks sat inside. Sit at tables away from the bar if you don't like TV noise.

Very enjoyable evening

By Gerard B |

Just spent an evening in the Irish Bank with my wife. The staff were great, the drinks excellent and we had some lovely food. As a visitor from Donegal this was the best Irish pub/restaurant we encountered in San Francisco. We will return.

Lovely space ...

By Jules T |

Truthfully ended up here because we were looking for a college football game. But ours was not on in the bar so we sat outside for dinner. So cool they have the whole alley and the ambiance was FUN! Lovely evening so really enjoyed our dinner out there. Our server did a FAB job even though most tables were full. The food was just standard pub fare ... but pretty good menu and pretty decent pricing for the city. Will come again for sure.

Good food and beer

By 127emyrj |

Had an evening meal at this bar. The food and service were good and the bar had more of a feel of an Irish pub than other places we visited. Was quite expensive but prices were typical of the area.
