Great deal, best pasta

By yosemiterisk |

At the end of our fantastic meal, I uttered to the staff that my only complaint was that "I didn't have enough time for a second glass of wine!" I will say outright - this was the best pasta I have ever had. Period. The sause selection was great, and the meatballs were the real macaronI!

Proper Italian

By sglondon |

This is not the typical stereotyped Italian restaurant, with checked tablecloths and moustached waiters, in fact this is not a restaurant. It is a fresh pasta place which would not be out of place in the fashion district in Milan. All the pasta is freshlymade and there is a roaring take-away trade, but they also offer incredible piadina which is not easy to find outside Romagna in Italy. Really good quality food , friendly service, lovely atmosphere, good prices, this is what young Italians are achieving. Fast food all'Italiana!!

Great saturday night over here

By Langlois Tina |

Came here with friends for dinner. It was really crowded and we need to wait for a few minutes to get a table. The food was really good and I really liked the salad. We also ordered some dessert and they were really good. Love it. We had a great time over there.

Great food, poor service

By austraveller90 |

Arriving around 6pm there was already a long line of people waiting to get in. Always a good sign! The line moved quickly but it was absolute chaos once inside. They have a system where you order and pay at the counter and then take a seat. Heavily police that you don’t take a table before ordering. It was our first time here and the girl taking orders at the counter was far from helpful. Rolling her eyes when we asked questions about the menu. Ordered, paid, received our ticket. There aren’t many seats inside so we waited, waited, waited for a table. Our meals soon arrived but we had nowhere to sit!! Once we finally got a table the pasta was absolutely delicious. A little on the cold side by then but was still 10/10!! We then decided we wanted to try some dessert - we were expected to vacate table, join the line again to order and then wait for another table. No thanks! We decided to leave. I would love to return but they really need a better table system. I felt so uncomfortable with literally dozens of eyes staring at you waiting to pounce on your table the moment you looked like leaving

Nothing to write back to Italy about...

By Ivor M |

I really really wanted to like this place. After seeing reviews online, it really stood out as a must-visit. It is definitely authentic and the pasta is fresh and homemade. However, the final dishes lacked overall flavor. I found the sausage and bacon way too salty and it really overwhelmed the taste of anything else in the dish. We tried 3 different meals here and all of them shared this problem. The portions were also relatively small and expensive considering it is just pasta, which is typically the most inexpensive and plentiful food type. Really disappointed. Won’t be coming back.

Entertaining Coffee

By Suzie A |

My other half and I stopped here for a quick coffee before meeting some friends so sadly can't comment on the food but...what a treat watching the chef creating little pockets of ravioli from scratch. The service was great and the whole place had a really relaxed and welcoming feel. Will come back to sample some food next time!

Truly Homemade Pasta!

By kathyb |

We stumbled upon this cafe while on Union Street. The pasta was AMAZING!! The service was great and the fresh homemade pasta was delivered to the table quickly. You can also buy pasta to take home to cook yourself.

Great everything

By Agustin D |

As always, fresh and good ingredients make up for a great meal. This place has all of that and add great people and ambience!!! Loved it!!!!

Loved the food!

By suku34 |

We had dinner at this tiny restaurant and enjoyed not only the food but also the service and less touristy atmosphere than the Wharf. Seemed like more locals than tourists. Pasta and lasagna were excellent, lasagna was a large portion. Staff made a recommendation for their favorite sauce for the pasta. Enjoyed our meal and this cute little restaurant.

Tasty and casual

By KarenThinksSo |

The portions were sizable and tasted great, though the sauce was definitely greasy. It was so nice to be able to mix and match noodles and sauce style. The casual setting was enjoyable. A great, easy spot to grab a meal.

Watching noodles being made

By BB343434 |

Found this thru Trip Advisor and it exceeded expectations. Walking in they were making fettuccine noodles. Watched while waiting for a table. I had the fettuccine with the Bolognese sauce. Had Mozzarella salad as well. All the food was good and fresh. If you enjoy freshly made pasta this is the place to go.

Very nice

By Léa A |

A great place to eat fresh pasta, carefully prepared on site! Add the sauce of your choice and enjoy 😜 Tortellinis are a little small in quantity!

Fantastic

By Casey G |

Honestly chose this place because it was fairly inexpensive and we needed a pocket book break on vacation. The food was amazing. We had their flat bread cassones and they were so good. My daughter is a vegetarian and had no trouble finding options. The atmosphere was fun, staff was friendly. Oh and my husband works in food service and commented that the place was really clean, which he doesn't say lightly! I would like to go back and try the pasta. It looked amazing! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that it is loud and very crowded in The small space. We thought it was fun but that's not for everyone!

Great homemade pasta

By Joycetraveller |

The pasta is made on premises using good ingredients by Italians what else can you ask for.... the place is decorated nice and had a great vibe !!

fantastic

By JADE G |

The Real Deal!

By pingzing61 |

I do not write many reviews, but I had to get on to review this place. These guys know what they are doing. The food was amazing and without a doubt authentic. If you are looking for fresh, delicious, and as the name states, HOMEMADE, this is the place.

The real Italy in San Francisco

By drdevil78 |

This little place is the salvation of every Italian in San Francisco. Fresh pasta, delicious sauces and even a fabulous tiramisu make this cozy little place a sure reference. The very nice and friendly staff makes you feel at home. Absolutely recommended!

Great pasta not so great salads

By AmirSFO |

The pasta is made on-site which is great. I would like it a bit more al dente. Our twins live the sauces but they are on the heavier side for me. Salads are not that interesting and need improvement.

Delicious homemade pasta

By Lars Ole |

Incredibly delicious paste dishes of homemade pasta. You decide for yourself both the type of pasta and sauce which is a big plus. Serves just fit large portions so it fits fine for dinner. The only one that pulled down was the slightly loud music and slightly tired toilet facilities. Very satisfied

Lovely Italian Lunch in the Marina, SF

By CherylFord |

I had a wonderful Burrata Salad with fresh field greens, shredded carrot, radishes, and a huge portion of rich, fluffy, luscious burrata cheese drizzled with olive oil and balsamic - heavenly! So fun to watch the pasta ch f making fresh pasta by hand, and wonderful menu including squid ink papardelle puttanesca, etc. Lots of piadine and cassone, Italian an style grilled “sandwiches” and much more.

Gnocchi was divine

By VelvetSteamroller |

got dinner to go here july 2020. the gnocchi was incredible. hands down the best i ever had and light years beyond 2nd best. my wife and i both got the gnocchi, her in the white sauce, me in the Butter & Sage. i liked it in the butter sauce, but she thought the Butter & Sage was just ok. nobody really thought the white sauce was all that great. daughter had the Tagliatelle in Bolognese sauce. again, noodles themselves were awesome, sauce was good but not great. also got a salad and didn't realize until i walked 9 blocks home to eat it that they didn't include the salad dressing. so a few bummers. actual pasta itself was the best i've ever had. the sauces were just ok.

Excellent food, very small in dining area!

By jm6ftunder |

We came to this place based on reviews on TP and because our first choice for Italian was closed for the holidays. Let me be honest, the food and pasta are pretty authentic with good flavor other than the white sauce was 'blah' at best. Lasagna and pesto were excellent. This style is what I would consider 'counter service', you order when you come in and hope to find a table by the time your food is ready. A big problem is that the staff continues to take orders for dine in patrons even when the place is packed and you're not sure how soon you may get a table. Additionally, if you have more than 3 or 4 people in your group, there are only a couple options for tables. The staff does do a good job clearing tables and 'helping' move people along so they don't type up tables to long, but beware that you might not have a place to sit during peak times. Additionally, it felt like we were in a European discotheque for as loud as the music was and it made your dining experience a little harried. I enjoy a good bar and loud music at the right times, but this is one of those times, personally. I would say, if you have a place close to eat, I would suggest take out.

Late lunch in Union Street

By BPenuliar2015 |

Had a late light lunch at the Italian Homemade company. We ordered the meat ravioli with bolognese sauce. It was good but I think the sauce was a little too salty. Maybe next time we will just order a veggie ravioli with bolognese sauce. We decided to come back here since we bought some fresh pasta last year.

Authentic italian

By kmathiow |

We wanted Italian for our last night of our trip and could not have picked a better spot! They were in the front making homemade pasta the entire time we were there. Lasagna was delicious and the meatballs were perfect!

Tastes good but small portions

By Sylvia A |

The food is good and tasty, also fairly quick. It could be a bit pricey but I have to say is worth it for the taste. The only things by is that the portions are quite small so you might need to order a bread without or not be really hungry.

Delicioso

By Marta C |

In the heart of Little Italy. You can always judge an Italian Restaurant by the Sauce well this place passed with flying colors. My Daughter had the Ravioli with Pesto Sauce. I had the Homemade Fetticini and Marinara Sauce. Their Sauce was so delicious I would have been happy with just a bowl of the Sauce. The only complaint I had is no Garlic Rolls. That would have made it a perfect meal.

Very good

By Tania |

Small and cozy place, with a menu where you can configure your dish by choosing the type of pasta and its sauce. Everything was very delicious and they were very kind

Best pasta ever!

By Shannon82486 |

Amazing pasta! So fun watching it be made right in front of you. Sauce was also amazing, you can tell everything is homemade.

Good Italian budget option

By Ed C |

Great pasta options, fast and efficient service. Tiramisu a bit disappointing. Flatbread ok but I’d have the pasta next time. Would go again.

Perfect Pasta!

By K8 |

This place, although small, was absolutely amazing! We've actually never had better homemade Italian food served at a restaurant. They had plenty of options to choose from - including gluten free pasta - and everything tasted delicious. However, it would be more helpful to have what types of pasta are gluten free written on the menu, rather than having to ask at the counter and them trying to remember all the options! Portions were far bigger than expected and totally worth the price point.

Fast, tasty and relaxed!

By LyzaNN |

We ventured here for dinner tonight. Really enjoyed the pastas - the pesto linguine and also the asparagus and prosciutto linguine, both really extra tasty. We have Italian relations so we know authentic pasta ! Enjoyed the funky music and casual atmosphere. Efficient, friendly service also added to the experience. I would highly recommended this place. It was also fun to watch the pasta chef in action at the front of the restaurant. They also had a steady take out customers.

Great Italian restaurant

By MayaRoo |

Al Dante fresh pasta! Burratta cheese in the salad was amazing. All farm to table! Fast service! So much better than any other Italian restaurant I ever ate in San Francisco. We really enjoyed! Was just amazing and super delicious family time 🤩

Terrific food

By chas575 |

We ate at several restaurants during our stay in San Francisco, but particularly enjoyed the food at this place.  It is unremarkable and nothing fancy, but yet offers a funky and comfortable atmosphere.  But the food is terrific.  The homemade lasagna and melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi were top notch--and you get your choice of several sauces. Great place--wish we had one in our town.

Fresh, delicious, and worth going back to!

By bsfox6754 |

DELICIOUS lasagna! Fast, friendly service of authentic Italian food! It was so good that it gave us a glimmer of excitement after spending hours in traffic coming back from Tahoe. Our second trip did not disappoint!!! Bolognese, Alfredo, and pesto sauces are all wonderful! Pasta is fresh and amazing! Will definitely come back on our next visit to San Francisco!

In a Word, PASTA!

By El Turista John |

With several franchises around town we tried the one in the Marina district on Union Street, and we’re glad the quality and taste lives up to all the hype and positive reviews. We really enjoyed the variety of pastas and sauces, and the quantity is quite filling. There is no table service as the pasta, add-ons, sides, and drinks are ordered at the counter before sitting down. (So my advice is to check out the menu on-line before arriving at the restaurant.) If you’re looking for good, we’ll-crafted and tasty Italian pasta, The Italian Homemade Company, regardless of location, is for you!!!

Great food and friendly service

By Anna L |

We had great lasagna and gnocchi here and the young man who brought the food to the table - I think his name was Max, was really friendly and efficient! The waitress, ( I think her name was Iya or Ia? ) was totally on her game! Loved the service at the Union Street restaurant.

Dinner with my daughter

By Richard S |

Stopped by here with my daughter after spending the day walking around the city. We ended up splitting a pasta dish with a side of meatballs. Very delicious and satisfying. Reasonably priced too.

Yummy!

By Pas5353 |

Homemade pasta! Sauces are delicious. Some of the names of the pasta, I had to Google. 3 locations now.

Fantastic!

By Julie H |

Friendly service and absolutely delicious meals = a perfect night out! All four of our meals were generous enough to satisfy us for dinner and to have enough to take home for lunch the next day. The pasta was perfectly cooked and all the sauces were amazing. We ordered 1 salad and had enough to share. So many options and combinations possible. Super satisfied with this meal!

Pasta done the way it's supposed to

By Johan B |

Excellent meatballs, perfect lasagna and superb vegetarian ravioli! And the pasta itself was cooked to perfection... highly recommended. And Mexican Coke is always a plus on any American menu.

Fresh and great tasting Italian food !!

By World Trotter |

Visited this place for lunch when we were in the fisherman’s wharf area. It has a good vibe, some outdoor seating and super fast service. The basil pesto pasta was so fresh and mouthwatering dusted with plenty of Parmesan. The veggie lasgana was great too !! Enjoyed the food - huge portion sizes and very home made !!

Never had better!!!!

By janicemarit |

This place was absolutely amazing! I've actually never had better homemade Italian food served at a restaurant. It's pretty basic really, you go to the register order and then get your food brought to the table. We were there on a couples dinner and we really had a great time. It's super chill though the place is a bit small, so be ready to maybe wait a little in case its packed which it usually is, and you can always eat at the bar.
