It is a dive bar, there is no other way to describe it. But the beer was cold with an excellent selection of microbrews, the burger was huge, and the waffle fries were just amazing (don't leave without trying them). My waitress was very nice, extremely attentive and she had the most amazing tattoos! Make sure to stop at this place when you are in town!

Best burger I've had while in Austin. Real meat, incredible flavor, fresh veggies, awesome waffle fries, and great service! I would highly recommend this hole in the wall in the midst of 6th St. to anyone looking for a better than average burger!!!

The bacon cheeseburger is as epic as its reputation. This burger alone merits the 5 stars. We had the sweat potato taters and draught beers. Service was fast and friendly. Great bar and they had "Over the top" playing on the TVs. Highly recommended

Came here early afternoon as most bars are closed on 6th street during the day. The drinks were really good and the outside patio is cool if you want to hangout outside and have some drinks.

First time in austin. Headed to 6th street for dinner. The jackalope did not dissapoint! Great burgers. Fast service. Attentive staff.

Making a stop at each of the bars on 6th street for a drink I stopped at The Jackalope. This seemed more like an older guy bar, not like the other younger bars on the street. My friend and I wanted to try it out and it was the first stop of the night. We are both attractive women in our twenties. The service here was not even close to the service at the other bars. The bartender was rude and was only paying attention to those who seemed like regulars. I came for the atmosphere, but left quickly after one drink and did not open a tab. The drink was over-priced and only so-so. I am a cautious traveler so I kept all of my receipts and from the night. I checked my bank account the next day and saw that I had two charges on my card. One for my drink, and one for a much higher amount for what I could only assume was someone else's meal. I called to complain to the restaurant, but ended up having to dispute it with my credit card company. I am positive this was the result of the rude bartender charging me for someone else's tab. I don't know if it was erroneous or spiteful, but I will not be back to see if it happens again.

Ate Cajun parm hot wings which were amazing. My friend had a hamburger and enjoyed it. It was nice and greasy. Bartenders were very attentive.

The bars stools are wonky, the banquettes' pleather are torn, and the tables sticky, but my god these are some of the best burgers I have ever had. Choose from the Chipotle Bacon Burger with house made chipotle pimento cheese, the Chupacabra Burger with jack cheese,, barbacoa and ghost chile aioli, or my favorite the Bacon Brie Burger. What? Yes! I don't know who's cooking in the kitchen but I hope they never stop. Prices are $8-$11 for the burgers and they also offer hot dogs, sandwiches and pizza. Beer is ice cold and cheap. They have drink specials throughout the week. Don't forget to get your picture taken on the Jackalope before you leave! LOVE this place on dirty 6th.

This is a really cool bar with good pizza and burgers. I only had a beer, so I can't tell u how good it was, but one of their burgers has been featured on Food Network.

I had this place marked down to visit after seeing it recommend on thing to do in Austin page. I was not disappointed. My first visit was mid afternoon. The afternoon happy hour priced tallboys were very cheap and very cold. After a couple of these food was ordered. Chicken strips for me. Very tasty. The big screen tv was playing E.T. on arrival and once finished it was Pineapple Express. I liked the place so much I called back in the next day. This time only regular priced tallboys but still cheap. This time as I ate my quesadillas Goodfellas was playing. It's just a great dive bar. Doing simple things well.

Not my kind of music playing. More geared to college crowd. Very loud. Quesadillas were really greasy, but tasty. Wouldn't go again.

We stopped in for dinner during the Pecan Festival. It is a bar so the menu is somewhat limited to the expected bar food items but the burgers we had were really good. I had the Honey Jalapeño Bacon Cheeseburger and it was thick and juicy with lots of fresh jalapeños....can't go wrong with that. You have to order fries separately but they were also really good....very fresh and well done like we like them. It was pretty noisy inside but then again it is a bar and it was Sunday so there were plenty of people watching the games as well.

An amusing bar, recommended to me by a very very drunk SXSW reveller. Pleasant beer garden / smoking area at the back with integrated bar stools / tables around trees.

We loved this place so much. I had the special voodoo burger. The bun was a glazed donut. How could you go wrong with that? It had a fried egg and bacon too. It was amazing. My spouse had the chipotle cheese burger, which was equally fantastic. Fun bar with an enormous ride on statue of a jackalope. Worth the stop for sure when in Austin!

Had a few beers there, and lunch. Really great wings, good service, and cold beer!this bar and grill is within walking distance of the Hilton garden inn!

We meandered around and decided to grab lunch here. Why? Let's start with the smell. Not appetizing and just plain awful hipster service. Bad burger. Overrated!!

We had a really fun night out at the Jackalope! Atmosphere is great, bar snacks good and Tim the bartender was highly entertaining

Even tho I couldn’t stand the music they were playing, we had a great time. The bartender was awesome, the drinks were good, we had a blast!!

Someone in my group described this as a "hole in the wall". I liked the look of it and the bar food and drinks we got were okay. Average margaritas. Not a place I will go back and visit.

Super fun bar, love it! Bartender was great and friendly. If I lived there, this would be my bar! It's cool and funky and dark and just enjoyed it!

The loaded waffle fries are fabulous, the burgers are good but not great, but the drinks are weak as they come... I don't think I will come back.

Fairly quite with a few tables of regulars and tourists. Beer was ice cold and service was excellent. A quirky bar that must really get hopping late at night. If wandering 6th stop in for a drink.

While in Austin I stopped for a slice of pizza and beer on a slow Monday evening. The pizza was nothing special... average tasting sauce and toppings. I ordered a slice of sausage with some other stuff on it. It was a big slice but that was about all it had going for it. I sat at the bar and the bartender was helpful. It advertises itself as a "dive bar" and the atmosphere fits that description.

We were attending a conference in downtown Austin and was looking for a place to have lunch near the convention center. The large statue of the Texas Jackalope drew us in. I had the cheeseburger and it was good. The accompanying seasoned waffle fries were good but they were over cooked and difficult to eat because they were so hard.

I did have the burger that they lay claim to their fame, it was good. Not spectacular, but good. They have a decent happy hour, but the "long necks" are not all inclusive for the happy hour. Misleading. The decor is good, lots of original drinks on the menu. For the record it looks like on the food network website, that this burger was on the "best thing I ever ate" So not really Best burger in USA.

The chicken and brie sandwich might be the best sandwich I ever had...seriously! Have a snack before you go...

What is a Tijuana? A 1/2 lb frank with bacon deep fried and then cheese in a hot dog bun. Good choice to go with the cold beer and the good service. Thanks.

We enjoyed the atmoshere... They had great dailey drink and food specials. We went there everyday we were in Austin as it was pretty much in the middle of everything.

Title says it all. This place was crowded making it hard to find a place to sit down. We ended up standing at the end of the bar to eat. Pizza was edible, but nothing to write home about. Bartenders were very attentive.

I traveled to the Jackalope on a Sunday night in Austin. Yes, it was a Sunday, but the place was still really fun with both an indoor and outdoor bar. Was fun for the bar hopping that we were doing that night, and being able to sit on the Jackalope was a great photo-op. (You'll know what I mean when you get there). Definitely plan to get some beer and relax with your friends, or take advantage of their fruity-cocktails if you're feeling the urge to spend a little more for better alcohol. Perfect for a night out.

My fiance & I visit the Jackalope every year during our anniversary vacation week in Downtow Austin,TX. Great place, fun, good music and awesome burgers!

Very interchangeable bar as there are many nowadays, no particular charm, nothing that stands out particularly, neither positive nor negative.

Lots of local beers. the Live Oak beer is soo good - Hefejks.... the long one? amazing. pizza was good. staff is quick and friendly. great place to go morning or night

Average 6th St hangout with a unique riding toy, the Jackalope. Worth a highball and a pic to share with friends.

Good drinks didn't eat there, but stayed for the music. Seemed like a popular spot along sixth street. Would definitely go again.

Good music, great times to have fun with friends. could dance when the music started. Just down from Esther's Follies.

Fun little bar, pretty good food, right in the middle of 6th Street. Parking is a problem at any 6th St. location, you probably have to pay and park in a lot at the end of 6th and walk back.

This place was a nice place to stop in for a quick beer. I wouldn't spend a lot of time here though. Didn't eat anything but seemed like others ordered food. Bartender was friendly.

Great place to stop in and have a few drinks. The have a huge rabbit/antelope (hence the name) that you can get on and take pictures. Wife loved it and it was sure funny to watch.

Stopped in to get out of the rain- Wow- they make a mean Bloody Mary- most places I usually have to doctor it up -Baja taco was great.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. There isn’t any table service so if you want a drink or to order food, you have to go to the bar. My husband and I both ordered the veggie burger, served on a toasted bun with lettuce, red onion and a spicy mayo. It actually was pretty tasty although the spicy mayo didn’t have much of a kick. I drank water however, my husband got a watermelon margarita. He liked it but normally doesn’t order this type of drink. I found the ladies restroom very dirty and rundown. Maybe it’s an old building but certainly needs work.

Yes, their burgers and fries are very good! While the wait was a little longer than expected, the food was certainly worth the wait. The burger was just a tad bigger than my mouth, so had to resort to utensils. What was supposed to be a side of unique BBQ sauce for the burger turned out to be my incredibly tasty French fry dip. Was damn good! Staff were friendly, lots of cute tats on cute ladies, and the clientele mostly younger Hipsters and Millenials. But hey, I like hanging with the youngsters!

I stopped in with a friend during Pecan St Fest. We had to get our own beer at the bar, it was not cold. We had to ask for a menu and then could not get waited on. When we complained to the door man he was just abusive. We left without even finishing our drinks. Very different experience than the next two places we visited. I say don't stop here... just keep moving.

My husband and I went to this place twice on our weekend trip to Austin. So fun! Bartenders were friendly and fast. We only ordered the fries. It was the biggest basket of fries ever and they were yummy. On Sunday they had a 90's party. The 90's DJ was awesome and the place was full of people having a blast! We recommend this place!

While having lunch on 6th St, we asked our server where she would eat if she wasn't at work. She instantly recommended The Jackalope. Later that night we noticed the large Jackalope standing in front of the place and bellied up to the bar. We each had a burger (I had the black and blue) and some cold beers and left very happy. The burgers were phenomenal and our server took very good care of us. In fact we came back again before we left Austin.

Checked out this place on the advice of a guy I met in Dallas. Was told they had the best burgers in Austin: he was pretty much on the mark. The atmosphere is awesome... Loud music, awesome movies playing above the bar, wide assortment of characters hanging out there. Def worth a stop in if you are on 6th street

This is a fun dive bar & restaurant with weird style! We came for lunch on a Saturday and the place was almost empty. The sweet potato tots with ghost pepper aoli were so so good. The burger was decent. I thought it was strange that the burger came without any sides. The bloody mary I had was spicy and delicious! Our server was very nice, but it took a long time to get our drinks and food considering how empty the place was. This place probably would be a lot of fun at night.

The Jackalope is raunchy and loud and I love it. It has a punk rock vibe and a huge plastic Jackalope you can mount for photo proof of your visit. The drinks are reasonable and service is quick. They serve a fair menu and have an outdoor smoking bar. This place really captures the weirdness that Austin is famous for

The conference we were attending in Austin had its final party at The Jackalope. We had a great time. Drinks were great and the bartender were very good and polite. The bar itself was very cool. We loved the outside bar area.

I was on a recent business trip to Austin when someone suggested trying Jackalope. When I walked in I was not sure about the place, but I have it a shot. We ordered parmesan wings and a chipotle burger. They were phenomenal, they don't even ask how you want the burger cook because I assume they know the best way!! It came out medium and was very juicy and full of flavor. Some one with me said you know it is a great burger when no ketchup is required, and that was this burger!! The wings were full of flavor with just a little heat, we ate every thing and could have gone for more!!

Not so sure why this place is popular other than its been around for awhile. It's dark when you walk in there and if tattooed hipsters are your thing for service than this is your place.

fyi!!!! do not ever go to - jackalope bar and grill (austin, tx) jackalope bar and grill is absolutely the worse bar ever!!!!! the service is horrible!!! the staff is horrible!!! jackalope bar and grill - was the only bad experience we've had in Austin, TX. I was harassed and threatened by a staff member at a his bar. I ordered 2, 2 dollar beers during happy - for this reason alone the staff member proceeded to throw insults my way for being cheap, and then when I asked why he was talking to me like so, he took it as me requesting a fight and threatened me several times. When we decided to leave he then followed us outside and continued to threaten me and attempt to antagonize me into a fight. I was with my wife at this time and on a 2 day vacation. We were in the bar a total of 5 minutes, and had not given anyone any reason to treat us like so. When I called the following day and asked to speak to a manager, I was told I would have to communicate with the manager via email. This place is a dump and their employees reflect there management.

Fun place with good music and huge jackalope just as you enter the establishment. You can have your picture made riding the jackalope which is entertaining to do and to watch others. Tons of fun!

Sounded like a bunch of bar food, but we were hungry and thirsty and got a couple of great beers (large list) and the pulled pork quesadillas - very tasty and filling, with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and jalapeno cilantro ranch dressing for dipping! Mmm! Friendly service by Autumn, too.

I ate a great burger here, and my colleague also had a burger that he expressed was delicious. The 'Bama Burger was excellent! I'd recommend The Jackalope for sure. The people here were very nice and courteous.

The cheapest bar on 6th street with a brilliant vibe and atmosphere. The food is also ok for a beer and a snack, with a standard american menu but good quality at reasonable prices

Seems like a cool bar to hang out but the food was really disappointing. The burger was so greasy it was difficult to eat. Not a fan of the food!

It is also pretty fun to see al the girls that come to the bar just to do their best "Miley Cyrus impression" sitting on the jackalope statue. The music is definitely not the best.

This joint reminds me a lot of New Orleans. They keep it pretty dark and it doesn't seem to be the cleanest place in Austin. 3 of us ordered dinner and it came out farily quickly. It looked like a typical burger but my meal was interrupted by a sighting of a rat running up and down the electrical cords appr. 10 feet from me. Needless to say that ended our venture there. I informed the manager but he simply laughed it off! I suggested maybe him buying our half eaten dinners but that didn't happen. I would proclaim it a SH_THOLE

We stopped in for a late lunch/snack and beers. Good beer selection and recommendation for pulled pork quesadilla. Very tasty. Looks like a fun place. Curious zombie type movie was running while we were there. Funny. Also good photo op with the Jackalope. Not so funny were all the homeless people. Something odd must have been occurring there. Probably cleared up in evening. Parking was a bit pricey too. $15 for anything in the afternoon. Glad we had good food and beer.

Stopped in later afternoon on a weekday to grab a pre-dinner beverage or two and also decided to try the wings for a snack. Had a bourbon and then Mezcal selection from the cocktail board and enjoyed both but the star I would say were the wings. We ordered Buffalo hot and they were nice size, smoky and spicy. Better than any I have had in a while. Ambience is dark grunge but in a good way. Likely a four star spot but for this limited visit I will go with a-ok. Note: not a family place or for children.

My bf and I loved the Jackalope. We had the chipotle burger and the jalapeño burger. They are amazing! The biggest juiciest burgers we have ever had. That alone was worth coming back.. but the bar is great! The atmosphere is fun. The staff is friendly and laid back. If you like grunge punk rock, tattoos, good food, and plenty of drinks to choose from this is the place to be!

This one definitely one of the better bars on sixth street! I enjoyed my drink :) great bartenders! Try the hellderado! Two people have to drink it!

The bartenders were very friendly , they were very attentive to my needs and the prices were average on the food & drinks.

Loud, but worth it....the pulled pork sandwich was delicious...decent prices, good margaritas!!! Our server was very helpful and made good suggestions, and took our picture!!!

Stumbled on this place while cruising 6th street. Awesome vibe. Great food. You gotta stop here while in Austin. Bartender Jeremy is awesome!!

So went here as heard it recommended by someone as the food good & as I was up a little early not a huge amount of places to eat at 11am I should have just waited..... DO NOT eat here!!! I ordered a chicken jack salad I think it was called (only 2 choices of salad on the menu) & I love my salad - it's generally pretty hard to get wrong but I have never tasted chicken like that. I still don't know what was wrong with it, at first I thought it wasn't cooked but looked through it and it was I took a second bite from a different area of the piece just in case but nup - something was up The tomato was soggy as, some of the lettuce looked like it should have been tossed in the bin yesterday I couldn't bring myself to eat it The service made up for it so that's why I have given 3 stars. They wouldn't let me pay for my food or drink (I tipped well tho cause they were so nice). The girls at the bar were super lovely & couldn't apologize more. Would go back to drink just next time will be after my meal

Service is OKAY at best. But they have great bar food and drink specials. Go for brunch! Or if you're in a hurry grab a slice of their pizza, which is one of the better pizza stops along 6th.

Great food and the drinks are to die for! A must whenever in town for ACL or SXSW! Amazing prices too!

We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. Maybe it was the hangover from Friday night, but this place was kind of a bummer. The music was so loud we couldn't talk. After hearing such great things about their burgers, we were really underwhelmed. They weren't gross, just not very good. The service was OK. They missed some things on our order - probably because of the noise - but were attentive and helpful.

There is a giant rideable Jackalope in the front part of the restaurant that I wanted to sit on. Then I noticed that the bar in the back had "Empire Falls" showing, so I was all like, what could go wrong?? Two strong drinks later I was buying a tank-top and trying to bum a cigarette off a very kind and patient server. It was a good time.

Ate the chipotle bacon burger because it was recommended by the food network. Was not disappointed at all! Delicious and just happened to hit 1/2 price burger night. Great little off the wall bar with totally yummy food :)

The Food Network awarded the best Bacon Cheeseburger in America to the Jackalope Bar in Austin, so while on a business trip this past week we decided to find out for ourselves. Overall, their website is very honest about their establishment and they did a really good job with their food, but what was showed up on our plates didn't look anything like was shown on TV. For me, it didn't live up to the hype and despite it being a very good burger, it wasn't the best in America. I will say this, the overall experience was a lot of fun and well worth the visit.

This was one of our first stops on sixth street, the bartender was very nice. They have a large local drink selection and also a good food selection. It was still early so not too busy but seems like a real fun place later in the evening.

This is a hidden little gem. I had lunch here on a Friday afternoon. Pretty quite and not too busy, which I liked. I had the 'Bama Burger, wow!! I have to say, I have had plenty of burgers over the years, but this was off the charts awesome. They even had waffle fries that were good. I would recommend.

One of the best burgers I have ever had. Wow... No lettuce or tomatoe on it, but the combo of cheese, bacon, and cucumbers was great!

we had lunch here. The wait staff was very rude, extremely slow and seemed not to care if we were there or not. The burger was average. I was expecting more from a good dive bar.

We stopped in for early lunch on a Friday, and we enjoyed that it was a more chill vibe. The burgers are creative and are very good, and I would go back just for another one. They have a decent amount of beers on tap but also specialty drinks if that more your style. Staff was really friendly, the atmosphere was interesting and enjoyable, and food was delicious. Definitely worth a stop for a burger if your on 6th street.

Stopped there unexpectedly and loved it! Great burgers and Pizza! Drinks were tasty too! (Mimosas for 2 bucks on Sundays!!) Staff was friendly and efficient. Stop by and hop on the giant Jackalope at the entrance of the bar! Definitely recommend it!

Rustic ambiance, friendly service, good drinks and really loud music. We stopped on a fluke and had a great time. It's for a young, hip crowd, but it's really fun. The Austin bar scene is really busy, but everyone was nice there.

Stopped in for a drink....and picture on Jackalope. It was okay...just wish 2 people could get on a take a picture together.

We stopped here for lunch as the sign said, "Damn good food." It was correct. I got the pimento cheese burger while 2 friends got the chicken and Brie sandwich. Burger was real meat and cooked to perfection. Bun was slightly toasted. Giant jackalope was interesting. Overall a fun place with tasty food.

We along with some friends stopped in the Jackalope for drinks and dinner. The food was great. We had wings and burgers. The draft beer selection was nice with several local choices. I would definitely go back.

This was worth the walk from our hotel (Hyatt Regency Austin). As soon as you arrive you can't miss the GIANT Jackalope. The mythological creature is there for your mounting and photo pleasure (as long as you have a drink in your hand). The ambiance is total dive-bar...but that is the charm The staff is great, very friendly and prompt. A very good selection of beers on tap, but they do pour the Guinness too fast, so it's not a true 119.5 seconds for the super frothy head. The burgers are excellent. All of us had varying versions of the offering, mine was a Blue Cheese delight! Crumbled Blue Cheese and Blue cheese sauce. A nice medium rare finish and completely satisfying. What also intrigued us was the Video entertainment...Jason and the Argonauts followed by Conan the Barbarian. If you are on 6th street and looking for food...without the dose of live band music...go here and enjoy the food, drinks and great service.

Featured on the Food Network show, "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" (that right there gives you a clue), has the esteemed distinction of my wife claiming that this has "The best by far burger I have ever had. It's the Chupacabra burger." Now this comes from a Texas girl who is a diehard Whataburger freak!!! This, in and of itself, is truly epic and earth-shattering!! It contains the following: Barbacoa de Chivo, salsa verde, jack cheese, jalapeños, pickles and ghost chili aioli. I had the black and blue cheeseburger and was not disappointed! $2.00 well drinks makes this a keeper on 6th Street in Austin TX.

The food was great. The waitress was really nice. There are like 5 televisions so you can watch sports or see a movie. For happy hour well drinks are $2, beers are $2, and frozen drinks are $4.

It is a dive bar. Not a hipster make-believe pretend dive bar. It is a dive bar. The happy hour tall boys were like $2. That kind of dive bar. The barkeepers were friendly and will talk to you for 20 minutes. The burgers are huge and greasy. The beer is cold. You waitress may bring you free weird shots you didn't ask for and drink one with you. After a while the shady artwork starts growing on you. You may get a picture riding a jackalope. Can't do that just anywhere, son.

They have good food for lunch. But the main attraction is the giant jackalope. He is fantastic for pictures.

A very good place. Comfortable, laid-back. Locals and tourists, It was good place to just hang out whilst waiting to catch a train.

Tried a slice of made to order pizza with our drinks - it was great. Bartender was friendly, get your picture taken with a jackalope!

Honestly nothing special, food average, good selection of beer but very good and attentive service. Looks like a tourist place. Ah, very loud music.

A happening place on 6th Street, interesting bar with rules to sit on the Jackalope - must buy a drink and no male nudity.

The Jackalope is one of the better bars on East 6th street, the rowdy and somewhat weirder side of town. Good food and great cocktails, nice staff, interesting decor.

had to pick the jackalope sorry jackalope. slow service(very). food was just average. 6th street was lined with cafes and bars and was geared more for the nigh time partier (in my opinion) also there were a lot of beggers on the street approx every 20 to 30 feet. my daughter and her husband loved austin. had we probably would to if we had more time to take in more of austin so please do not let this discourage you from going to this awesome city

It was late, probably 11:30 or so and we had made our way to E6th street. Many of the bars had a line and we didn't really care where we went, just wanted a beer and to hang out and the Jackalope emerged with open doors and no line to get in. You are greeted by the giant 6ft Jackalope tempting you to jump on and take a selfie. I can't say this place was anything special, imagine a bar getting overwhelmed with people every weekend and serving drinks to masses of people who are over consuming alcohol.. it aint classy but clearly has it's spot in society.

If you are looking for a great bar to eat on 6th street, stop in here. The bacon chipotle cheeseburger was amazing. The beef was perfectly made and fresh. The bun was soft and toasted. The bacon was thick and juicy. Additionally the waffle fries are excellent. I also ordered the wings which were a good size, sauced perfectly, and came with plenty of carrots and celery. My wife got a slice of pizza and the slice was pretty big. The basil and cheese on the pizza was fresh, and the crust was perfectly baked. The beer is priced really cheap. A Lone Star tall boy was only $3, and most other beers were $5 or less. They also had a rotating selection of Austin beers for only $5 each. The decor of the restaurant is also really cool. Lots of Texas themed decorations and paintings as well as other weird/cool items (during Xmas season they had peppermint candies hanging from the ceiling). Tips: there is not hostess, so simply walk in and seat yourself. Fries do not automatically come with the burgers/sandwiches; they have to be ordered separately. Check the website before you go here because they have really good deals (we went on a Wednesday which happened to be half-off burgers!). I highly recommend stopping in for a burger, wings, beers, and a great time.

If you are looking for bar food on 6th, the Jackalope does not disappoint. Burgers, wings, tots, you name it. It's all exactly what you expect. I have to say that it is the staff that makes this place great. Everyone is friendly and happy to be working there, which is a huge plus.

Great bar with wide selection of local craft beers and their food is fantastic with large portions. Also an outside bar for smokers or people who just prefer outdoors. I always stop here first when I go to 6th street in Austin.

Enticed by half price burgers(Wednesday's). Draught beer choice poor. The happy hour Lone Star beer came in a can, no glass offered? Burger was ok, nothing special, but the waffle fries were cold and stuck together, not nice. Worst of all, cheap and very nasty plastic cutlery. Ok, so it was good value, but there must be much better choices within a stones throw. Overall not recommended.

Pizza and drinks. What else can you ask for? although people go mainly to mingle you can also get a bite in this place, but hold on tight because they could take a long time making that pizza you ordered.

We'll you can't walk past it without seeing the big rabbit with reindeer horns at the front door !!!! And if you get a drink you get to ride it !!! Full of tv and sports like crazy . Huge bar they say everything is bigger in Texas well this place is pretty big ..

Jackalope is known for one of the best burgers in the country and they didn't disappoint. We stopped by early afternoon for a quick beer and lunch and got exactly what we expected. They had a variety of options for burgers and everything we had was delicious. The have a full bar and a large beer selection, including a lot of local craft brews. Service was average, but the great food makes it worth a visit.

The menu looked good, so we walked in despite it looking, well, a little sketchy. But once you get inside, well, sketchy is kind. It's a dive. It's tacky. It's gaudy. But it has excellent burgers with some unique preparations. The sweet potato tots were superb. Just don't stand in one place too long, you might stick.

Went there for the burger stayed for drinks. I was totally surprised this place would be in downtown mainstream anywhere.the front half from the street is exactly what you would expect but when you go up the stairs you go underground.loved the music service was great and depending on your outlook on life it should be entertaining for anyone.

I have been in the bar and restaurant bizz for over 30 years. It was a Thursday early eve and not that busy, ordered a great burger and fries with a local tap.I sat at the bar on the end to watch on TV the end of a tennis match. In the bar bizz you can find a great burger,A big TV,and a great tap beer pretty much anywhere.BUT what makes you come back to that bar is a bartender that makes a little conversation and a least come back ask how things are. Sorry K___ty being cute is not everything.

You have to get a photo with the Jackalope which is right when you walk in. Some of the seats at the bar were swings which was neat. But it felt like a college frat party with beer pong tables, loud music and mediocre drinks.

Stopped for a quick evening bite. Our server was very friendly and food was served promptly. Nothing extraordinary about it. Music and decor are very eclectic. One can hear Motorhead one minute and Lionel Richie the next. It is a bit dark and does not have that touristy appeal of a chain bar.

We were strolling the streets one afternoon and came upon this place. With a giant jackalope in the entrance you must go in, have a cocktail, climb the jackalope and have your photo take. How often can you say that you've ridden a giant jackalope??

I was here two nights in a row, the first for dinner and the second for drinks and to watch a basketball game. My coworker and I each ordered a burger the first night, and mine was very well made. The second night, we had drinks and watched an NBA game, and the bar was quite full of people at different stages of their night. It was a fun atmosphere and I enjoyed the time we spent there.

The huge Jackalope in the center of this bar is what lured our group in. Their is a little staircase to help you get up onto the Jackalope and we took some fun pictures. Staff friendly, drinks cold, good location

First things first, this is a bar. A bar with a punk rock flair, in the middle of 6th street, which is the night life party central of Austin. Don't expect things to be super family friendly, or up to your prude standards. (As previous reviews have mentioned, there are topless female paintings.) That being said, this place is incredibly fun with awesome food and drinks. There's a photo op with a giant jackalope (you can mount it, so long as you have a drink in hand) and I found the atmosphere to be quite cozy, albeit a bit loud for my introvert nature. (But again, it's a bar.) I had their signature burger, and my husband had their wings. Both were phenomenal. But the real showstopper was the peach margarita I had. It is the tastiest alcoholic beverage I have ever had, anywhere. If you need food while on 6th street, definitely stop here. It's so worth it.

It was 100 odd on the street and I just stumbled across this in seeking shelter and cold beer. Just so much fun. Great dive bar feel with 70s horror movie behind the bar and lively wait staff with a LOT of ink. Not the best food in town because that is up at Stubs, but pretty damn good. If you don't wear your politically correct pants too tight then you will love this place

As we strolled down 6th street trying various places we stumbled across the Jackalope pub and restaurant. We had pizza from the next door pizza shop and burgers which were excellent. The pizza was out of this world. The drinks were good and they various local microbrews and a line of standard beers. The unusual item to note is their selection of movies playing on numerous screens throughout the pub, i'll leave it at that.

This burger was good, very good! I also loved the the tater tots and the drinks are super cheap during happy hour. I guess there is happy hour during the weekends!

a sign on the door said best burgers-- so we went in. it was 1/2 off burger night--- OMG so good! The Honey Jalepeno burger was amazing! They also had a great drink list and plenty of good draft beers. One of my favorite dive bars and great bar on 6th.

Awesome place, claimed to be the best bar in America, whatever America stands for...think they mean the United States, but... Great burgers, rock-roll style atmosphere, right in the heart of downtown Austin!

The pizza here was excellent and my husband loved his burger with pulled pork on it. The service was fast, friendly and efficient! Great lunch spot!

We had good drinks, and a photo op on the big Jackalope in the entrence way. I recamend everyone stop in here have a drink and take a photo. It is so much fun.

They were playing "Zombie Strippers" on the TV while we were there. A little odd, but kinda different at the same time.

Went here on Halloween, food was good and the service wasn't bad. It didn't seem really busy, but there wasn't a lot of servers to serve all the tables. Not the servers fault at all on this as I understand staffing, and management need to watch costs. I get that. The burgers were really good, and the waffle fries were really crispy. That's a first for me. Restaurants tend to not know how to cook waffle fries. A few days later, my wife and I thought lets go back because we know what we are going to get in regards to the food quality, and we wanted try the pizza this time as it looked pretty good when we were there. My wife and I, both in our late 30's decided to go back, but this is where the problem started. We got I'D, but my wife left hers at the hotel. We thought the doorman was joking, but we looked at him and said what? But, his look was an I don't care what you think look and wouldn't let us in. Two days before that we didn't get ID'd. So, we left to Parkside instead and dumped 70 bucks there. Sure some people would say it is a privalage to get ID'd at this age, but come on....this was pushing it. I know the response will be that they have to ID everybody at the door, which is fine, just be consistent. Also, be nice about it and make us understand why they have to ask. Just don't put up a front like a dark knight standing in the front of the door shouting"none shall pass!" that's all.

Just spent a week in Austin, Texas. On the recommendation of a local I went to the Jackalope. I ended up going there twice more. The service was great right from the start. Nice selection of Texas beers, full bar also. On Tuesday nights it's half price pizza and local brews. What a bargain, and the pizza was very good. I loved the garlic olive oil element. On Wednesday they do 1/2 price burgers, which were also huge and good. Overall great place to have a few drinks and eat dinner, very cool place. Don't forget to get a picture on the Jackalope.....

Stopped here for lunch after completing the 10 mile bike trail around the lake. Dive bar vibe but delicious sandwiches and craft beers.

I have nothing good to say about this place. Ask about the prices of your drinks BEFORE ordering and get a receipt! Karaoke was a farce. Would not recommend stopping in here.

One of our regular stops on Saturdays. Great friendly service. Always play just the right music. The food is very good. Any burger will do it, but got to try the honey jalepeno burger. Maybe the best buffalo wing sauce for chicken strips or wings in Austin.

I'm giving this a 5 and I'll explain. Cos let's face it this is a dive bar so why would it score so high? 3 words my friends! The pulled pork sandwich. Um seriously the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. Maybe that says too much about me and a lack of pulled pork sandwich awareness of the world. I have no idea why it was so good, and maybe by the time I was eating it I'd had a bit to drink, but it was so yummy.....And everyone at the table also raved about their meal (pulled pork quesadillas). Not sure what they do to their pulled pork, but it's good. OK other thank that. It's a dive bar, you can't really comment. It's going to get crowded and beer is going to spill and it's going to get loud, but you know that going in. Beer selection is good. There's also a huge giant jackalope in the entrance that people like to climb on... If you are into climbing on large models of mythical creatures.

I was on my way back to the hotel and stopped. I was alone so I ate at the bar. A strong drink with the chipotle bacon burger and fries was $15 It was good. It wasn't the best burger but really decent. The waffle fries were fab u Lous

My wife and I found ourselves looking for dinner within walking distance to the Hilton Garden Inn. My wife and I got a Chipotle Burger, a jalapeño burger and sweet potato tots. The tots were the best but the burgers were good too. Great service and a strange setting.

Very fun, service was great (thanks Cali). Food was outstanding. Reasonable prices. Would definitely return on next trip to austin.

After being secluded at our resort on the lake we were itching to get out and walk around downtown and eat some good food. We chose the Jackalope for dinner. I had the honey-jalapeno burger. It was delicious. I got a side of fries and they were okay. My coworker got some sweet potato tots and they were so good. Definitely get those. The restaurant was pretty full for a Wednesday night. Prices were really good for the servings sizes.

Tons of choices for food on 6th Street and I decided to try The Jackalope. Great choice! Chipotle Bacon Cheeseburger and chili cheese waffle fries. Fantastic. Typical weird, hipster townie Austin vibe, but the food was outstanding.

The bar was going up on a Monday! It was my last night in Austin and I was debating on going to 6th street alone. I am so glad I went! As I walking down the strip, I heard people singing at the top of their lungs and I decided to see what this bar was about. You’re met with a huge Jackalope right in the middle. I immediately said I must take a photo of myself on it!! That night at the bar was a mixture of karaoke and music being played. Music was great and the vibes were immaculate in there!!!

I had pizza and beer here twice on my short visit to Austin. The bartenders were very friendly, and all of the female staff were very attractive. The atmosphere is very much like a "diver bar," but very fun and I enjoyed it. The drink prices are very affordable, and the pizza was good. Definitely check this place out while you're in Austin.

When I am in Austin I always make it a point to have at least one drink at The Jackalope. The bartenders are super friendly and the atomphere is great. Great music during the day and they always have a crazy horror movie playing on the TV. The food is incredible too.

I tried the honey jalepeno bacon burger and it was messy and delicious and amazing. My partner tried the pizza and the Cajun wings and he loved them as well. The atmosphere was fun, the service was good. We will be back!

My favorite bar in Austin!! I LOVE THE JACKALOPE!! Super chill friendly vibe! I found them from triple D(Diners, Drive-In’s, and Dives). The drinks and food was really good! The bartenders Nico and Sarah were the best! They were super fun and nice! They made great cocktails. Highly recommend The Jackalope to wet your whistle or grab a bite to eat!

I've eaten a lot of burgers in my day, but the jack basic burger with cheese and pork belly was one of the juiciest most decadent burgers I have eaten in a really long time. I am so glad I tried it after seeing it on the Food Network. Our waitress Kelsey was sweet and attentive and made us want to go back when back in Austin.

The pizza was HUGE, good price and lots of food OH MY lots of pizza a large litteraly is the table , and I can put away some pizza im a growing boy but it was just yummy. local crowd and not loud , laid back , friendly, good place

Just happened to be in the area when the annual water fight started on 6th so ducked into The Jackalope for lunch and to stay dry. Happy hour (Sunday until 7pm), $2 beer and drink for my wife - can't beat that! My burger was very good and my wife had Catfish po'boy which was also very good. We would go back but there are so many other places to try and so little time.

This is a favorite bar for me. They host local events and have a unique but welcoming atmosphere. Do folks give you the side eye or move away from you, that won't happen here. One of the few remaining authentic Austin and it's weird places left to visit.

in the last week Went to this club with a group of people. And the only only African American with us was told he couldn't get in because he had gold in my mouth. He took it out and was still told no he couldn't enter. This is a stereotype and racists card played.... I will let every media site know about this. And another African American behind us was told he couldn't wear his Polo Boots inside.....All recorded I will be taken matter forward. I emailed manager of Jackalope to address issue and this company blocked me. Some Customer Service.

We went at a "happy hour" time of day for apps and drinks. The wings were just okay, not a strong flavor, but the fried pickles were great. The hibiscus margarita was unique and had such a wonderful flavor! The pear cider had a nice pear flavor as well. The bar itself has a lot of character, and make sure you take your picture sitting on the huge jackalope in the entryway!

We did our research trying to find a great place to eat while in town. This bar/restaurant got pretty good ratings. The first thing I was disappointed with was the fact that they had paintings of naked women everywhere...Seriously?! When we ordered my burger, I forgot to ask the waitress if I could have my burger well done, as anything less turns me off it completely. After she took our orders, I went and asked her if she could please have the staff make my burger VERY well done. She said she would let the kitchen know. We waited for a good 20 minutes to receive our food. It was not even hot! Just a little warmer than being lukewarm. When I cut into my burger, it was bleeding... I couldn't even finish it... The Waffle fries on the other hand had a pretty good flavor, however they were warm-ish and hard... As if the kitchen misunderstood and made the fries well done instead of the burger... I normally wouldn't make a big deal out of something like this, but when you pay that much for a meal and then they STILL get your food wrong...NO THANKS!

Dark bar great atmosphere great staff. Nice cold beer. Ordered the chicken and Brie with waffle fries. Great place to have a cold beer and some good food. Simple.

Food & drinks in the afternoon, we came across this pub. It was a good vibe, nice selection of drinks & the food was pretty good as well! Cheeseburger & chips which were full of flavour, highly recommend. If you're passing, wanting a refreshing drink & tasty bite to eat, we'd definitely recommend. 9/10 from us

August 31st went down to austin with my sister in law to celebrate our birthday. Our friend suggested jackalope for lunch before we went back to DFW on August 2nd. When we came in it had a fun dive bar atmosphere. After sitting down our waitress finally came. It's about 3pm, nobody in my party has eaten but we figured bar food wouldn't take so long.... Wrong. We start to order, all three of us get burgers and I ask the waitress if she can put chili on mine (they have chili for hot dogs). She said she didn't think so but she would ask. I said if the cooks can't put it on just put it on the side and charge me a few dollars. But if they couldn't do that I would take a runny egg. 25 minutes later she comes back and says the manager said chili can only be used for hot dogs..... Why? Take my five dollars for a side of chili like any other restaurant and make your customer happy! 25 more minutes pass and we finally get our food. In the mean time we finished watching water world and started 1/3rd of Mars attacks (they play great movies). So 50 minutes after ordering, our food gets to the table. The fries were great. The burger was greasy (actually dripping to my elbow) and my yoke wasn't runny :( I was disappointed. If I go back it will be for a drink, some fries, and a picture on the jackalope. Don't go expecting amazing service....

This is more of a classic rock bar, but tons of fun. Get your picture taken on the huge Jackalope (I did)…..fair warning: The A/C is cranked up at this place. Would definitely return.

I am not an expert on bars but I enjoyed this place. It was early in the evening, about 6pm but we were looking for snacks and it was very close to the Ester Follies. I stuck with a soft drink because I was designated walker but my group enjoyed beers and snacks before the follies. The service was just right and the group enjoyed the pub food and beer. We were so comfortable that we almost forgot that we had other plans later in the evening. it was good food, good beer, great conversation with friends.

We stopped here for some wonderful pizza on our way to our hotel after spending the evening at the Speakeasy. We enjoyed our food and laughed at the interesting movie choice being played on the bar TV. We have never laughed so hard and this place will hold great memory on our first visit to Austin. If we visit the city again, we will be sure to return.

Sunday night was an old school rap and hip hop music & video night. It's a blast if you can jam to some old school songs and laugh at some videos! We ordered wings and burgers and they were definitely better than your usual bar food. The drinks are good and very reasonably priced. The staff is fun and friendly.

This was the only place we could find to get a full sit down meal at 11pm on a Friday night on 6th Street. We had the Basic Jack burger topped with bacon and egg and shared a basket of waffle fries. It was amazing and massive. We had to get the rest to go. My only complaints would be the napkins were too flimsy to handle my juicy burger, and our waitress was a little too preoccupied with her personal conversations with her co-worker at times so there were a few delays in getting her attention.

Worst, most bland pulled pork I have ever had. Fun for a beer and to get a picture with the stuffed jackalope but otherwise nevermind.

Ask for the pizza menu! We initially were given just the main menu. Pizza by the slice, priced right. Slices were huge. This was a really busy place and still had spots open. There was an inside & outside bar. They had a handful of beers on tap, even a "bartenders choice", which was local.

Wings and sweet potato tater tots were very good. Blue cheese burger and veggie burger were average at best.kind of like it came from the freezer, got heated up and thrown on the bun. Certainly a unique place if you want to get a picture on a large rabbit with antlers. Mimosas for $2 on Sunday lunch were worth it.

Expensive for what it was. And it wasn’t much to write home about. The awful paintings of women exposing their breasts that ringed the place set the tone really as did the thumping but dreadful music . Hot dog had been microwaved ( soggy limp bread was the giveaway). Wings were better but the second out of four sauces in terms of hotness should have come with a fire extinguisher. Canned wine ?... really?

Super bummed walking around 6th in the afternoon with all bars quiet until we found this gem. Great bartender, and atmosphere.

Burgers were decent, pizza was good. The bar seemed a bit touristy. No live music and the music on the sound system was rock and punk. One of the few places on 6th street that seemed to have a good selection of reasonably priced food.

So so food with relatively rude servers (was there on a night when it was basically just me - they should have been all over to be nice). Bar is a little dank and nasty - seating is patently uncomfortable.

Right on 6th street! Amazing pizza, great drinks, and cool décor. Staff were very friendly, and recommended other fun locations for my family and I to visit!

Great little spot for 6th street drinking crowds at night. Cheap drinks, good music and service. Fun little atmosphere and ambiance.

The Jackalope is a must see stop in Austin. The bar is large and located in the heart of the music scene is Austin. The service is good and bar offers a lively scene with a large Jackalope at the entrance to welcome you into the atmosphere. We only ate a few appetizers- the sweet potato hush puppies and macaroni and cheese- which were both good for a bar environment. Great place to stop by for a drink or two.

The food we ordered was really yummy!! Our waitress was also super friendly and helped me decide what to order. The artwork on the wall is paintings of topless woman. I didn't realize at first and the I couldn't stop looking! Hahaha. They also have tons of screens showing movies and tv shows.

Our party of 4 ordered 4 different burgers & they were all great. One of the best we have ever had. The waffle fries were done just right as well. The service was fast & the people were friendly. I will definitely return the next time we are on 6th Street.

If you can't have fun here you just can't have fun. Busy bar that played mostly rap and upbeat music.

Stopped in on a Sunday evening for a slice of pizza and a beer. Probably 20 people in the place. Server came right over and took our order, food came out quickly. Pizza tasted like cheap, frozen junk...stuff you'd feed to a dog. Tried to get our servers attention three times, were ignored every time. After 15 minutes we asked the bartender to get our check. Our server came back, didn't say a thing and we paid quickly in order to leave. Would have asked for a manager, but at that point we really wanted to get out of there and find another place. Place was dirty, very dive-bar. Good place for a cold drink in a dark bar, nothing else.
Enjoy country music in a fun venue
We stopped in because we wanted to listen to the band. They were great! No cover (Thursday night) but the band plays for tips.
