Poor food and miserable service Steak is low standard Tartare was really strange Pasta was so hot that tasted nothing else

We had dinner on July 28, and only one of our party of 8 liked the meal..a pasta dish. Two of us ordered Squash Panzanella. It had enough croutons to feed a family of four with a skimpy amount of greens. The caesar salad was the same, overloaded with croutons and short on greens. The carrot risotto was tasteless and the Skuno bay salmon was average. The fried cauliflower appetizer and cheese curd appetizer were fine. We were comped 2 desserts when we complained about the tasteless risotto.

The restaurant is really cool. Great bar and an open layout. Servers were fast and friendly. Wine list was reasonable. The food? It was good, nothing memorable. I was bummed because everything else was spot on. I'd go back for drinks and appetizers in a heartbeat. A full sit down dinner? nah...It just wasn't special for the main courses

We dined with a group of eight. Our server did a very nice job. The cocktails were good, the appetizers were great, and our meal was very enjoyable. There are many healthy options here. There’s also a beautiful view of the river. I enjoyed the whole experience and would come back.

First - late Sunday lunch. Wife and I finished shopping on the Mile. Wanted to eat (off the Mile). Saw this neat cool restaurant from our River cruise the day before. Not disappointed. Perfect atmosphere - Open / funky / quiet at that time (but not dead). Shared the Sunday special - Shrimp Broil. Fantastic. Plenty to share. Dive in and get messy and enjoy. Great wine to add. Next night - business colleagues and I were looking for late dinner. Tried a couple of other places but booked. I suggested The Kitchen as it let them see Riverside Chicago. Again food was very good. Great atmosphere (but I agree open concept can be noisy). Good food, good wine, good atmosphere. Definitely recommend again

Took my family here for Sunday lunch and was disappointed. Firstly they didn’t respond to my reservation request for a table by the window and whether they could cope with my daughter who is coeliac, despite saying they have gluten-free options. Decided to go for it despite the initial lack of response, the restaurant said they offer gluten-free options but seem to have no understanding what this means.. My daughter went for a burger but was unable to eat the fries that would have come with it as they fry everything in one fryer. She had to settle for a side plate of fruit instead! I went for a steak that was pretty tough and gristly considering the cost. The rest of the family were very unimpressed with a tasteless salad and a burger

Nice view of the river, but they do not seat you in the dining room until 5pm - so sit outside or at tables in bar area. We ordered all small plates and one dinner for 3 diners. The brussel sprouts were average, the sweet potatoes were very sweet, hummus was good, beet salad was good as was the burrata. Main course we had the carrot risotto which was just okay. Non alcoholic cucumber mint drink was very tasty. We did not care for Pomegranate drink so ordered a margarita as the 2nd drink and it was just awful.

This place! I love to find this kind of places where everything is something special, cocktails are all good and service is amazing! I want to go back soon

My salad was delicious. My partner’s soup was accompanied by burnt bread. I mean really burned with the carbon stinking. On questioning the server, we were told that was the way it was always served. As a doctor I’m aware that carbon is carcinogenic so we sent it back. The Chardonnay was not adequately chilled. Again? I don’t think so.

The kitchen is right on the river and has great ambiance. The server was great and many others helped. The food was well portioned and delicious. Had the salmon and hush puppies which were both Spectacular. Highly recommend

We met our adult sons for a quiet long dinner last night. The staff her could not have been more accommodating! The guys all had delicious house whiskey sours. The wine list was well curated. Boys ordered small plates and especially loved the shrimp hush puppies. My scallops in curry were divine. Per servers recommendation we split the sticky toffee pudding as were richly rewarded. Service was professional and understanding of our leisurely pace. Excellent experience!

Large open space restaurant with modern feel, but not much atmosphere. Friendly staff and helpful. The menu was limited, but interesting choices, good wine selection. Food was average and two of us had the vegetable curry and it was a large bowl filled mostly with very al dente and halved Brussels sprouts, not very tasty. The salmon was better. Pricey for what we had.

Breakfast sandwich, homemade tomato soup, breakfast potatoes, nueskes bacon, side of fruit. ALLLLLLLLLL delicious and fresh. Do you wanna eat here? YES

The service was wonderful! Loved the atmosphere as well. Farm to table has gotten quite mainstream and sometimes generic, but they are doing it well at the Kitchen. Music was a tad loud, so conversation was a bit harder than one might want. I ordered the salmon and really enjoyed the dish. The side was a bit boring. But appetizers and the mocktail I had were good. Definitely a solid choice!

We were here during Thanksgiving. Its a nice restaurant, friendly staff and good food. Although my Turkey came out cold, they quickly replaced it for a new one. Dresscode is smart casual. Will come back.

We dropped in for lunch - Friday around 1245. About a 20 minute wait for a table outside (worth the wait!!). Enjoyed creative bourbon cocktails at the bar while we waited - friendly staff, no rush. We were seated outside overlooking the river - phenomenal view! We enjoyed a burrata appetizer (on some super tasty grilled bread), a delicious burger (get the Neuse bacon), and a warm toffee pudding for dessert. Service was fast and friendly. View was amazing. Food and drinks were delicious.

Liked the small dish and large dish options. Outstanding roasted carrots with whipped ricotta, lamb meatballs, fish tacos, roasted Brussel sprouts, salmon and broccolini. Fast service. Only drawback was quite noisy.

The Kitchen Bistro had a decent chicken halal sandwich for lunch, with an interesting mixture of vegetables and spices added to the grilled chicken. The tomato soup & chocolate chunk cookie were also good. The views of the river traffic were also enjoyable.

Cozy and comfortable. Terrific service and the Chef is wonderful. Food is high quality and beautifully presented. The drinks are obviously hand crafted and several people in our party said that they were some of the best mixed drinks they had tasted.

My daughter and I were conflicted and ended up ordering and splitting 2 entrees (salmon and vegetarian). They were so good, we wanted to go back the next night. My husband had pasta which is said was delicious. The service was perfect. We had a Celiac with us and he was able to eat safely. The restaurant itself is bustling and a bit loud.

One of the best dinners I have had in Chicago, the portions are large, the sides are tasty. I had a signature cocktail, it was really good. The appetizers were fresh & delicious including the oysters, fried cauliflower and the cheese board. The menu had offerings of beef, salmon, chicken etc... everything was delicious. I would suggest you order you main and then order the sides which are separate from the entree so they can be enjoyed and shared by the table. The desserts were off the chart, fresh ice cream, sorbet and stick toffee pudding. Our waiter was fantastic, always on top of the table and never hovering.

Brought my niece on a Chicago trip, for her 16th birthday present! We both knew we wanted to eat here, we love Kimball Musk :) This place was phenomenal! Our server was very sweet, attentive, and helpful. I ordered the carrot risotto, it was so delicious. Great atmosphere, you could dress up, or casual and not feel out of place.

Literally a HORRIBLE place to have brunch. Bad selection, terrible service.. just don't go.. So many good spots in Chicago other than this waste of time. 20 min for a glass of wine. Each time.. not just once w a busy bar. Asked if we could get a dessert. NOPE.. only with dinner menu (it was 3pm). No dessert? We asked if they had anything the chef would provide.. NOPE.. dinner menu, maybe try the belgian waffle... I guess the menus very few choices should suffice. Lobster rolls all roll.. little lobster. Red Lobster prob has more in what they serve than this place. Servings sparse, but tasted ok. May as well have dinner in your own kitchen.. although mine is much better than this spot. Same wine glass for all limited selection of wines...and a bad one at that.

The service at The Kitchen American Bistro was superior. The hostesses directed us to a choice table with a view of the river. Our server, Eli, was personable, knowledgable and delightful. Eli visited just often enough to make the service perfection. The manager visited our table just to check in and deliver complimentary champagne for our 30th anniversary. The chef visited our table twice with treats. Beyond the excellent service, the food was imaginative and perfectly cooked. The combination of flavors in each and every dish was spactacular. If I could rate The Kitchen with six stars I would!

We celabrated Mother's Day Dinner there and we were not disappointed. They welcome you with a smile; very charming employees. The food is local and very well prepared. We were very happy with our choice. Everyone should go. It must be beautiful by the river in the summer time; it was cold in May when we were in Chicago.

We had a great meal at the kitchen. It was shrimp boil month and we had that for the table. The have a great selection of wine and are right on the river.

We had New Year’s day brunch at The Kitchen and everything we ordered was delicious but the service was exceptional and truly a reason to come back!

We were so looking forward to trying The Kitchen. My husband's shrimp risotto was cold, my dishes were lackluster and the sticky toffee pudding was a disappointment. There's too many great restaurants in Chicago to go back to this one.

Wandering up the street back to our hotel around 7:30 pm, stopped to read the menu and decided to go in for dinner. Semi-busy on a Wednesday night (good sign) but they had a table for us and the service was impeccable. Had the pasta bolognese and skirt steak. Both were delicious. The ambiance and view were great too. Highly recommend.

Really cool spot right on the river. We went for lunch & the mussels were outstanding. My wife & daughter's meals were also very good.

I met some friends for a drink and was pleasantly surprised by the large and clean bar area. The only problem was there is only one selection of wine for wine and red, I would think they a fine establishment could have more of a choice. I will be back and give it another try.

First time visit. Sun. Eve so pretty empty but service excellent, food was terrific. Fish tacos actually fish lettuce wraps, but try them, they are great. All vegetable sides we tried were very good. Will be going back.

Visited The Kitchen for business lunch in July 2018. It’s a typical American food, sandwiches, burgers, fries, salads, etc. But they served fast, food was good, service was good, and atmosphere was nice. My spicy chicken sandwich was great!

We booked a big table for a groupe of colleagues for Sunday brunch The menu is tempting, the ingredients are fresh and innovative, delicious Belgian waffles, the farmer’s brunch is great as well, as the yogurt pana cotta and granola. The location by the canal is beautiful. The coffee is dreadful.

Drinks with friends and a few colleagues. Sophie M looked after us so well. Explained the appetiser’s and told us what to try. She was super attentive and made for a very relaxing time after an exhausting week.

Our first night in Chicago and we were looking for a late dinner (relatively late that is, after 830pm, not late by European standards) and we got in easily as service was winding down. We were greeted promptly although note that you need to enter via the main entrance, not the outside patio that faces the river. At least that is what the signage read. On general chit chat with the greeter, we told them it was our anniversary, of which more below. The decor is interesting and I love places like this. Obviously this space was not always a restaurant but it's well designed with an open kitchen and eclectic decor, and a series of booths as well as more typical tables. Our server was friendly and helpful but the service here is relaxed, not super fast but that is OK and fits with the ambiance in my opinion. The menu is short with a similarly sized, but perfectly adequate wine list on the reverse. We actually sampled from the top, and largest section of the menu labeled "to share". We both had the meatballs of which there were three, made from perfectly seasoned and north african flavored lamb. They went very well with the side of fries we ordered. Although not huge, this dish was just what we wanted especially following the lovely bowl of tomato soup (interestingly laced with olive oil) that I also ordered. We had desert too, although that is unusual for me but I can rarely resist sticky toffee pudding when I see it. This was an interesting take on that dish. Heavily featuring nuts that I think were pecans but may have had walnuts too. It was OK but heavy and I think missed the mark a little but the flavors were good although not traditionally STP in my view. It was at the desert phase that we were presented with 2 glasses of bubbly on the house for our anniversary which was a great touch. In a world of chain restaurants I love finding characterful, different places to eat and this fit the bill and, for a centrally located restaurant in a world class city, this was very reasonable for a meal with 3 glasses of wine and desert. The location is great, overlooking the river - outside would be lovely on a summer's day but seats there are fairly limited.

We ate a late dinner here. We shared small plates. It was all delicious. The food is very good and the location is lovely on the Chicago River. It was leisurely. We walked around the river area after dinner and there was lots of activity. The weather was gorgeous and people were definitely enjoying it. I suggest making a reservation here. Even then, we waited to be seated. Service was very friendly. Drinks and dessert also very tasty. We sat inside, but there is also outdoor seating available.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff! Beautiful patio right on the water..________________________________________

Gorgeous spot on the river. Get a table by the window. We visited when it was too cold to sit outside. Had the halloumi naan which was fabulous, the fried chicken sandwich was nothing special. Nice ambience.

nice place for an evening meal, good service and nicely prepared food, the red meat was done perfectly. Drink menu is pretty good, some nice beer and wines. Would be nice in summer when you can better enjoy the riverside location.

Weekday lunch outside overlooking the river, what could be better? We had the halal cart chicken and the fried chicken sandwich, both were nice and the service was friendly.

They say all are share plates, but the portions are kind of small for sharing. Get your own! You won’t be disappointed! Very interesting and very good tasting flavor combinations. The Cast Iron Roasted Chicken was so tender and juicy. We learned about Bubu Arrara, the little round crunchy accents on the Miso Black Cod. The first fish came out undercooked, and they promptly took it back to redo it. While we were waiting, the chef treated us to a free gnocchi with Bolognese sauce, which was a huge hit. If I had let them, each of the three teenage boys would have ordered three meals a piece. They liked it all so much. And they wanted to go back. Always a good sign.

This is a great place to visit with your friends. The atmosphere was nice as well as the service. Best double cheese burger in town! Give it a try.

We unknowingly made reservations at the Kitchen at their daily opening time. It was a very cold day and we arrived around 10 minutes early. After trying the door (whch was locked), the hostess saw us and ran to the door and opened it so we wouldn't freeze. They weren't quite ready to open but showed us to our table anyway. The menu was somewhat unique and the food was excellent. Our server was consistently attentive and very helpful in making our selections. Although a little off the beaten path, it's worth a visit.

I did a careful recce of the restaurants along the riverfront before choosing The Kitchen. And it was the right choice. I had an excellent meal with the Denver steak being the best steak I have ever had. The grilled oysters and steak tartare were also excellent. Very good service and ambience. The star of the show is the never-ending passing parade of an astonishing variety of craft up and down the river. Observing the fantastic flotilla, while enjoying excellent food, makes for a truly memorable dining experience.

Had drinks here one weekend night and enjoyed the good service and great views of the river. Nice atmosphere with friendly waitstaff. Our party of four stopped in following a big dinner elsewhere and after seeing the food and surveying the scene, we wished we had eaten at The Kitchen instead. The only negative were the chairs at the table in the bar area which were pretty uncomfortable. We might have stayed longer and had more drinks if not for that.

Trendy open environment, very good service, creative cocktails from full bar, good wine selection and extensive menu predominantly locally sourced and fresh. What’s not to like?!

Not much to choose from for small plates for happy hour, and the wines on the happy hour menu were not very tasty, but the food that we ordered, especially the ceviche, was outstanding. Good service as well. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the view of the Chicago River was great.

Beautiful location, scenic views, great service, healthy fresh foods! Enjoyed lovely lunch with family after a Wendella boat ride & loved it here - our server Jameson was terrific as were several other guys who pitched in throughout. Only a guy who was cleaning the tables was very aloof (& it was already late afternoon so it was not busy there)- we spilled a glass of water & needed quick help. He came over very slowly after we exhausted our napkins & did not replace our wet ones after being asked to, so we took napkin from empty table next to us. Pricey for the food but overall great! Food: Mushroom sandw - yummy, & they put on GF bread for hubby on request Piri piri chicken - very good Pork belly sandw - good Tomato soup - super tasty! The most flavorful item of the meal Veggie & Grain Salad - bland & too small in size, but fresh ingredients Fried Cauliflower - needed seasoning & flavor... Overall - Fantastic as they tried hard to make our stay wonderful!

My son lives in Chicago and we visited for 5 days at Thanksgiving. We decided to go to the Kitchen for late breakfast on a Saturday. Our server was amazing a gentleman with beard and glasses maybe 40ish can’t remember his name. We had spicy bloody Mary’s my son had the salmon sandwich, my husband the fish tacos and myself the farmers breakfast. The food was delicious, my eggs were huge and my bacon and home fries cooked super crispy like I asked. We also got a plate of the French fries which were super crisp.....yummmmmm I used the bathroom in the back of restaurant which smelled amazing like crisp cinnamon and it was super clean. The restaurant is huge with a room in back to have a party, baby shower, etc. I walked by the food preparation area and it was super clean and well organized, We were also greeted when we walked in by a very friendly host who was very people friendly made us feel welcome the minute we walked in. I was very very impressed with this place, the warm atmosphere, friendly staff, great server and delicious food a must try if in this Chicago neighborhood.

An amazing discovery into a proper food that could be enjoyed with scenery. Nice ales, burgers that are meat and pasta that is not soup. Well, came there three times during a week stay in Chicago and always enjoyed. Hoping that this is how US restaurants become everywhere in Texas )))

We were in Chicago for a business function on a Sunday night. Our hosts had made reservations for a dinner at The Kitchen and promised it would be great. They were so right! When we got there our host realized he had accidentally set our reservations for 8 with the Denver location of this restaurant. The manager laughed at the mistake and told us to relax at the bar and he would find a way to accommodate us in quickly. We enjoyed our cocktails (very nice selection of craft cocktails and bourbons) and were seated in 15 minutes. Our meal started off with fried cauliflower which was delicious. We also sampled some of the Burrata and PQB toast and fried cheese curds. By far the cauliflower was the favorite of our group. For our main courses, we had a variety of dishes orders at our table. I had the Half Chicken (huge portions!) and it was possibly the best chicken I have had. Very moist and flavorful all the way through. As an added bonus, it was only $29 so quite affordable. Others at our table had the shrimp Linguine, the Carrot Risotto and the Pan Seared Rib Eye. (The person that had the rib eye ate with us at Eddie Merlots the next evening and said the rib eye at the Kitchen was FAR and ABOVE better than the one at Eddie merlots!) The menu here is somewhat limited with only 8 or 10 items but that makes it really cool in my book. Average price is about $29 plate for main course. $10 for appetizers and not really sure about desert. Food here is great and the noise level is very workable for talking business. Plus if you have a smaller group you can sit by the windows overlooking the river. I highly recommend this scratch made restaurant when in Chicago.

I have dined at the Kitchen a few times now, and the experience is always lovely. The view is unbeatable, right across from the "theater" stairs on the Riverwalk, the service is attentive, and the food is fantastic. Whether you just want to sit at the bar and have one of their signature cocktails, or indulge in a full menu, this is a great addition to the city's dining thing. My only gripe? That the last time I went, even though I specified it was my daughter's birthday, there was no special effort made to acknowledge it.

We had lunch on a Sunday with a party of 6. They honored my request for a table with a view. All the staff were friendly & helpful. Service was great! We had burgers, mushroom sandwiches, & pasta. All were happy with their choices. Servers were attentive but not hovering. Loved the location by the river & the decor was attractive. Will return!

Our first time at The Kitchen was in 2015 and it has become one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. We’ve celebrated birthdays, new jobs, and family times here. We love the decor and the location near the river. For us it is an easy walk from home. I especially love it at Christmas time because adding garlands and fairy lights to the decor makes it even more magical. Our favorite starter among a lot of terrific choices has always been the Tuna Ceviche. On this visit, my husband had the Pasta Bolognese and I had the Salmon. No misses there - perfection. We were too full for dessert but if you have room, don’t pass it up. Everything is delicious! And it’s a great stop during Restaurant Week too.

Had a great dinner here with 2 friends before we headed to the theater. Our waiter suggested the cheese curds appetizer, which was excellent. I had the risotto, which was also really good. We finished by sharing the chocolate chip cookie - yum! Our server was very attentive and made some great suggestions. I will certainly recommend this to others when they are in Chicago!

We were recommended The Kitchen from friends. A nice setting looking out on the river. The service was strong and a great vibrant atmosphere. The quality of the food and wine is high.

In a quite nice, modern and plain atmosphere, the buzz of life is present. A short but sufficient menu and wine card bears no surprises, but is ok for a casual dinner. The kitchen was somewhat slow when we were there even for French standards. Recommendation: casual “gossip” dinner with friends

Had brunch with a dozen of my wife’s coworkers. The location is ideal and overlooks the river. The service is great and our server nailed everyone’s orders correctly. Brunch menu is fairly small but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We loved the breakfast potatoes. I had the Turkish eggs and my wife had the Benedict. Both were great

Went for brunch and had a great meal with friends overlooking the river. Made a reservation but was not needed as it was not busy.....brunch was great and a good drink list as well.

Literally cannot even explain the disappointment experienced at this restaurant. It all started when we called the day before to see if we could move our noon reservation to 10am instead. Spoke with someone who said that was fine and moved our reservation. Later, we received a call from the assistant GM (whatever that means) explaining that his "hourly" employee was incorrect and they could not move our reservation. Fine, whatever, not a huge deal. Called back in the morning to confirm our noon reservation and they told us they could accommodate us at 10 instead. Awesome, kind of confused, but whatever it worked better for us. So, we arrived at 10, we were sat promptly, and greeted by a very nice host. Food was fine, drinks were fine, server seemed hungover, but we still enjoyed ourselves. However, when we went to leave, they had mopped the floor and one member of one party slipped and fell. The manager literally walked by covering her eyes and ignoring the whole situation. Our friend was down on the floor, covered in disgusting floor grime, and the most anyone would do was apologize. No wet floor signs were around. I just can't understand how negligent someone would be to allow this to happen in front of so many patrons. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Even after the mopping, this is what showed up on the clothing.

We had a large group of 38 people and they put us in a side room that was perfect. The food was delicious! We had sirloin, salmon with carrots and potatoes. We also had 2 salads the baby kale or Caesar and they were delicious! For dessert we had carrot cake. I was impressed by the staff paying great detail to the tables needs and helping with every request.

Most restaurants nowadays are noisy but this is a quiet place, perfect for a Monday business dinner with an open kitchen, great service and the menu has something for everyone; I got a white fish with a hint of citrus flavor cook to perfection

Very cozy and nice place to have lunch or stop for a tasty break. The plate I had was pleasant which was the rigatoni. Very precise and extremely courteous service. And i appreciate the server that had patience with me thanks again Diana! I will be coming back again soon!

Finding a simple brunch in Chicago on the weekend is surprisingly tricky downtown as many of the waffle and egg places have 1hr plus wait times. We stumbled on this one while waiting for a table at another place, great atmosphere, farm to table, quick service and very good, fresh food. We were able to walk in and get seated. Waffles were very good, poached eggs and salmon very good with an interesting twist.

The Ceasar salad was king sized; definitely sharable. The cauliflower was amazing. Lake trout was a bit bland, but the sides (asparagus, brussel sprouts) were very tasty. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The wait staff was very knowledgeable. Definitely tune into their recommendations.

Decided to pop in The Kitchen for a drink, and ended up staying for a meal. The ambiance of the place is very uplifting and refreshing. The big windows give a great view of the city, and they bring in a ton of natural light. The bartender was actually a mixologist. I had a hard time deciding between wines and a mixed drink, and he solved that problem for me really quick. I'm really good at reading people and watching how they work. I was a little surprised to see that he actually cared about my likes and dislikes (unlike people who are unhappy at their jobs and genuinely do not care). He figured me out pretty quickly as well and from there I was enjoying some of the best drinks I've ever had. We shared knowledge on wines and alcohol, which was a pleasant conversation knowing he actually knew what he was talking about. Like I mentioned before, I stayed for dinner. I was with a great friend of mine (who's naturally an amazing chef) so we were both worried about how the food would be since our senses are a little more than average. We ordered the scallops, which were seared perfectly on both sides with such excellent flavor its like I died and was reborn. Also ordered a pasta dish, the pasta wasn't cooked enough so we had them re-make it and it was delicious. The meatballs are also great!

The service was very poor. Slow. Confused. Food was cold and soggy. Waited 30 min for a bottle of wine and food arrived at the same time. Waiter had a bit of attitude.

Our concierge at our hotel suggested this place. Waited a little longer so we could sit outside along the river. Was totally worth the wait! Our waitress Lynnelle was a total sweetheart. My husband and I would definitely come back next time we are in the city!

Great dinner. Nice atmosphere! I recommend the chicken. It was tender and juicy. Our food took a while but we were in no hurry. Our server apologized and comped my beer to make up for it. She was so sweet. She also comped our desert to enhance our anniversary celebration.

The menu in this restaurant is a little different to many others and is interesting. The food and service were excellent and the restaurant environment is very pleasant. I would go back there again if I return to Chicago.

We had a group of 8 for dinner here a few days ago. Love the atmosphere/decor, the hostess was very helpful, and our server was fantastic, did a great job all evening. My problem was with the food. Everyone in our group had the same comment - "my dinner isn't hot at all, and really doesn't have much flavor." Everything was edible, but barely. Cold meals ? really? not just one of us, but 7 of the 8 people at our table had less than even room temp meals. Also, the parmesan polenta side sounded so good, but in reality it was completely flavorless. Disappointing. I'd go back for a cocktail since the view was so pretty, but not for dinner.

We'd heard that this place was a good place to go. We arrived to a comfortable, modern interior, and a friendly wait staff. We ordered a variety of small plates including meatballs, fish lettuce tacos, greenbeans, and shrimp fritters. Plus desserts. It was all good, as was the suggestions made and the service. It's a fun place to eat.

If you're in Chicago, you'll definitely take a boat trip with a guide who specializes in architecture. And on that day, nothing better than good food and top quality service. We were very well looked after by Andrew, who was very professional and courteous. Through him we got to know a dish that at first is unpretentious, with carrots and feta cheese, but which turned out to be delicious. Try it, you will like it.

Small but high quality menu. We tasted almost all it and everything was better than expected. I recommend the duck. Great place

We went for a group of 10, and have family style dining. The salad and appetizers were ok but the main courses just lacked the flavor we expected. The steak was only average.

On our last day in Chicago we went on a tour in the center and we decided to eat on this restaurant. The place, due to the fact that it was a sunny Sunday, was full but the personnel in the reception area managed to find us a table just outside ,by the river. The environment was fabulous and the view spectacular , we could see all the action in the river. We ordered Caesar salads and salmon and whatever we ate was very tasty, plus the fact that the service was very quick. For drinks we had some refreshments, the day was very warm and humid, and the experience was a very nice one. Prices were affordable.

As you can see from my earlier review I have been here several times for dinner. This is also one of my top ten restaurants in Chicago. The restaurant overlooks the Chicago Rover from the north shore. This was my first visit here for brunch. I had a reservation for my family of four. I started with my usual margarita for $10. Bloody Mary’s are also $10. We started with a dozen oysters for $39 and cheese curds for $8, which we all enjoyed. The oysters were clean and tasty. I enjoyed my Cubano for $16. My family enjoyed their mozzarella sandwich, which was $14. The quiche was $12. The salmon tartare was $14. Jovani tended to our table needs. My total bill was $206 exclusive of gratuities. My family agreed we will continue to return here for brunch or dinner.

Had a really delicious meal at The Kitchen. Found the service friendly and knowledgeable but a little inconsistent on delivery of the dishes. Also no toilet paper or hand towels in the bathroom?!

Two words: Mousse Dome. Hands down the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. This place has the most beautiful interior and the vibe was perfect. My boyfriend and I had a quiet table by the windows overlooking the river. Staff was wonderful. For dinner we split the chicken. A piece or two was a bit dry but still tasty. But oh my gosh the mousse dome. Wow.

Blue served us great drinks! Ryan brought us THE best fish tacos! What a great sunrise view, as well the awesome river walk activity. We will certainly be back to the Kitchen!

The waitstaff or this restaurant are horrible and rude. Waitress made fun of us for not finishing dessert because it was her favorite. Slow service and rude about every question asked about the menu. Would not recommend going here if you have allergies because they will not want to accommodate you. (They didn’t accommodate me.) The chicken was juicy, but the squash salad didn’t have any squash besides zucchini

This place is right by the river. If you can enjoy to sit outside by the terrasse , it’s quite an experience. The food is tasty, nothing sophisticated, but good. Service is also very friendly. I would definitely go back.

A great spot on the Chicago river, modern, clean, loads of natural light and great seating options. My friend and I pulled in to have a quick meal and drink while walking around Chicago. The bar staff were great and we had the best tacos "Crispy Fish Lettuce Tacos".. we ordered twice over. Price-wise it is more expensive than some places but that's why you get quality and service.

The restaurant is located in an old industrial building, very pleasant as it is designed and built. The cuisine is really good, I ate a very good fillet with grilled asparagus. Only one fault: a little too noisy, the high ceilings maybe do not help.

I was visiting Chicago for NeoCon and got dinner at the Kitchen with a local friend and we had a nice meal. There was a good buzz in the restaurant and it is decorated nicely. Not a lot of vegan choices but I ordered two sides for a main. They were well cooked and seasoned. And both my friend and I enjoyed the Rose. I will say in a competitive market like Chicago this restaurant didn't do anything AMAZING but also none of it was bad.

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant that we just walked into after arriving in the city. The atmosphere with candlelight and a view of the river. The food was some of the best I’ve had in a long while and the drinks. It was almost family style and dishes were brought that could be shared or ordered independently and the menu was almost eclectic. Every dish was delectable. Even carrots that my partner doesn’t like - he said these were the best carrots he has ever had. Every ingredient contributed to the dish too, it was all balanced well. Service was also fantastic, our waitress was able to answer any and all questions and service was timely.

If I had the chance to give zero I would give it. A very bad experience all around. It started with the hostess: we made a reservation and specifically asked for a table by the window. Our request was not just ignored but free tables by the window after being empty for awhile were given to customers who came later. The server was terrible: did not bring a knife for meat, did not check on is during the dinner and he did not introduce himself. The food was awful: the meat was tasteless. AVOID AT ANY COST!!

This restaurant has every option to become top notch. But hardly one is used. Wonderful location along the river, central to everything. Good interior design except for the military metal chairs. Menu rather limited, but ok for most. Food not much above average. Service was satisfactory, except that my request to pay for the bottle of wine was not honored, to my embarrassment. So, nothing spectacular so far. But we would not think for a moment to return: The noise level will kill any conversation. Bummer. It had been recommended by a friend. But no, a real disappointment.

I have been very excited from the time I found out that The Kitchen has arrived in Chicago... I don't get out to the city as much as I would like so I had to plan out a weekend that would work. The Kitchen is conveniently located on Clark St it sits right on our famous Chicago River. At night it is hard to miss this fancy eatery because orange and magenta lights light up upon the restaurant. It is a very large eatery and can cater large parties... It is owned by Kimbal Musk brother of the famous Elon Musk. So I got here by the Blue Line Train got off at Clark and Lake walked from the station only 15 minute walk!! Once I got here I was very well greeted and seated at an end table with plenty of comfort and plush seating booth. A nice bottle of water arrived and greeted by more staff very friendly and accommodating! My waiter was very friendly and got my dish to me rather fast. I also ordered a cherry coke it was great! The meal was delicious!! I had lamb in my dish which I is something I generally don't order, but tried the dish tonight for a special meal to be remembered for some time... The whole time I was thinking about John and the other Musketeer if only they could of experienced this moment with me it would of been ultra special maybe in near future they might make it in... It was a very busy night and the royal wedding took place earlier today too... This was the place to be and I'm glad tonight was the night :) This is a fancy place with fancy people!! Dress up and head on out with your date and or friends. Tonight was a gorgeous evening with the boats and all on our river so surreal...

Great restaurant and great food, nice atmosphere inside as well with open plan kitchen, hence the name i guess. Very friendly staff

Saturday lunch. Attentive wait staff. Service was prompt and very efficient. Brunch menu with a selection that everyone enjoyed. All food items were nicely prepared, hot and tasty.

We had a great dinner with my wife, cocktails with cauliflower were excellent. We continued with sirloin and trout from the lake. We then walked accross the Chicago river along the new path: beautiful!

There was no view to enjoy because of cold fall weather. Were seated as requested in reservation by a window but would recommend only trying this restaurant when outside seating is available. I rarely order chicken when dining out but thought the menu was spare. The chicken was so tough that it could not be cut with a steak knife. It was previously cooked and the glaze was as hard as nails. It was like a knight wearing armor. After the chicken flew off the dish after several attempts to cut it, I surrendered and returned the dish. We then ordered the pork skewer. Another poor choice and although warm unlike the chicken it was fatty. The message is that the quality of the food and preparation is poor. The beginning appetizer were kumamoto oysters which was OK but some oysters had the off milky taste. The brussel sprouts and Amaro we had was passable. Chicken and pork was not charged and comped martinis which was handled nicely by manager. Still passed the $100 mark so restaurant wasn't dinged. Service was fine but not returning for food.

We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time, and then waited 10 more minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I asked the hostess to please summon a server, and she literally ROLLED HER EYES and said "OK but we are very busy." Finally some random guy with a poker face walked over with a water pitcher and started filling our glasses. "Are you our server?" I asked. "Yeah", he said. That was all. No introduction, no welcome, just "yeah." We asked if we could start with some focaccio bread, and he said flatly, "We're out of bread." Seriously? He then dissapeared. We got up and left. We noticed the other servers nonchalantly wandering around with no sense of urgency. Other patrons were looking around for their servers (i.e."rubber necking"), and one guest threw up his hands as if to say, "Hello, anyone work here?" but no one seemed to care. I blame the owners and/or the managers for not training the staff. Have some class, people; this is in an upper scale area and for these prices gusets deserve better.

Only had drinks and appetizers....but I loved the atmosphere....! Great wine list....fun appetizers....cozy and fun atmosphere.

Sorely disappointed in the service and food. I was quite surprised that it was michelin rated. The decor and location was beautiful but everything else fell short. Even the bathroom was dirty...I should have known better when the most basic amenity was unacceptable. In addition, I had to wonder if the the poor service was due to racism. My party (all asian) came in early during breakfast service yet we waited 30 minutes when three separate parties of white folk that came in after us were seated first. I spoke to the manager twice about this and all I got back was, "it'll be a 15 minute wait." The whole situation just left a sour taste in my mouth. Furthermore having the morning manager come by with an apology and sending us stale donuts and sticky buns was just ridiculous. Better communication from the morning manager would have been appreciated. I work in the service industry as well so I understand when the back end gets bottle necked; however, this level of incompetence was appalling for a restaurant with such a strong online reputation.

I had dinner at the kitchen, very close to my hotel, and very well located along the river in Chicago’s downtown. The place is OK, and as expected, crowded even on a Wednesday. I would not try to go without a reservation. I was tempted to put 3 points, rather than the 4 I finally assigned, just because there will hardly be memorable experiences out of this visit. In fairness, we were well attended, food was OK, and on a few dishes really good. We were assigned a private space towards the end of the restaurant that worked very well in terms of isolating the group from the other guests. Sorry I to no pictures. I felt no real contributions were interesting enough.

Dinner was spectacular, everything we ate was delicious, but the best thing about the whole night was our server Fiona: she was professional, kind, sweet, polite…. there are not enough words to describe how she made us feel. But don’t get me wrong , everything from starters to dessert was delicious : tiradito, carrots, black linguini, picanha ,the Chevre cheesecake. It’s a place to go ever and ever and have a little chat with the best server ever , Fiona. Thanks for being the way you are. Isabel&Eduardo

My husband and I came here with another couple and we all loved it. We ordered the grilled cauliflower as a starter, then we ordered the pasta bolognese, the Pimentón linguine with Lobster (it was the special for that day), the salmon, the sirloin with mushrooms & mashed potatoes, & the toffee pudding for desert. Everything was delicious! We also ordered some wine & beer and we paid a little under $250 for the 4 of us. The place was also nicely decorated and its location next to the river is perfect! Great price for a wonderful dinner!

We stopped here for lunch and were so glad that we did. It was a beautiful day and we had just gotten in to the city. It was right before the lunch rush so we got a fabulous table outside on the river. The tomato soup was some of the best we’ve ever tasted. I used the bread from my mushroom sandwich to dip in the soup (odd that it didn’t come with bread). Regardless of that it was still great food, great view and great service. As far as price...... everything is pricey in the city. We thought it was comparably priced. Would highly recommend to everyone.

Really enjoyed our dinner here. We booked, recommended as it was very busy. We were able to sit outside and watch the activities on the river which was gorgeous. Staff and service excellent. My only complaint was that mine and my husband’s meals were incredibly salty. Such a shame as otherwise a superb place.

The view was really great of the river, the avocado toast was amazing, it was not that big so I would suggest getting a side to go with it.

Terrific Sunday brunch on the river for our group of 5. Donyae is the best. She can describe any food or drink item on the menu and gave plenty of suggestions for shareable plates and desserts. Delicious food, great drinks and exemplary service. Thanks so much!

Excellent food, place, view, and staff!!! Food was incredible, tasteful, perfectly and carefully prepared. Staff was so polite, careful and attentive!! The ambiance is amazing and with lots of seating options and a wonderful view to the lake!!

We made a reservation - can’t go wrong- we sat by the river (great view). No alcohol but we had the most amazing food. Steak tartare (comes for you to mix but pieces of meat were bigger than normal). Cauliflower was awesome. We had the carrot risotto but we added shrimp To it with Parmesan, salt and pepper. Delicious. Dessert was a toffee cake (had raisins and we were not told :(...) and the pistachio gelato was bliss. Great service - good price

We had a large group for brunch before a show and had an outstanding experience. Sammy was super helpful and responsive in the planning process and Emma and her team were amazing the day of the brunch. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. They made it easy to host a large group and I received many positive comments from my friends. Well done!

My wife and I had dinner here upon the recommendation of a friend. We're so glad we decided to take her recommendation, it was our first visit to Chicago. The restaurant is located along the edge of the river in the downtown core. We were seated at a window table, and although we couldn't see the boat traffic going by on the river, we still enjoyed a nice view of a nearby bridge and several of the interesting buildings in this truly amazing city. Outdoor seating with a great view of the river is also available if the weather cooperates. I'm a rum drinker, and they had a very good selection of highly rated rums on the cocktail menu. Several wines were available by the glass, keeping my better half happy! And the food...oh my, the food. The menu is full of fantastical fusions of a wide variety of things, with a great selection of gluten-free and vegan options. We ordered 4 things – the Focaccia bread, Lamb Arrayas to share, the Pappardelle, and the Tagliatelle. The Focaccia was wonderful, a bit crusty on the outside, but nice and moist inside with just the right amount of olives so it wasn't overwhelmed with olive flavour. Lamb Arrayas are some ground lamb meat, fried and stuffed into a pita, then fried again, and served with sour cream and fresh dill. 4 of them come with one order, and that's plenty of appetizer for sharing between 2. It would even be a tasty appetizer to share amongst 4. Very flavourful...a great start to the meal. My Pappardelle was essentially a pasta & rabbit stew. It was delicious and plentiful. Too many American restaurants have a habit of serving huge portions. Not here, they're just right. The Pappardelle had a nice mix of shredded rabbit, root vegetables like carrots and turnip, and was topped with the most amazing crispy sage leaves. Our server Auburn, who did a wonderful job, explained how the chef got them to that crispy stage...they really added to the flavourful taste of the dish overall. My wife's Tagliatelle was also delicious. She described it as mildly spicy, with a very tasty bolognese sauce, and the pasta was done just right. And dessert? When Auburn brought the dessert menu, she described the first item on the menu, the Mousse Dome. We didn't give her a chance to get to the 2nd item because the Mousse Dome sounded like a heavenly dessert. And it most certainly was. Our eyeballs bulged out when we saw it, and we polished it off so fast I forgot to take a picture of it! Don't even ask, just order it. It's easily enough to share for 2. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone. It isn't too expensive, so I believe it provides great value for your dining dollar. It would be pretty noisy if it was full of patrons, but the food would be worth it. Auburn, thanks for the wonderful service. And thanks to the chef and staff for a wonderful meal.

The Kitchen has a nice look and atmosphere but good very average. Had a fatty pork meal for $34. Shared appetizer was better. Just not a great food selection.

JMJ Great service and good food and a beautiful setting make this restaurant wonderful! Went for lunch and dined with a sizable group. The waiter was so efficient and friendly; the orders were placed quickly, drinks served, and the food attractive. I feel the prices are a little steep but I imagine the rent is high in this stunning location on the Chicago River Walk. A private party was coming in soon, so we could not linger too long but we needed to move the party along for some important shopping. Enjoy this place if you find yourself never the River!

My first time here and really enjoyed it. Loved the atmosphere and the food was good. Will be back my next time in Chicago.

We went for Chicago Restaurant Week and had a four course meal for $59. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and professional. The food was excellent. Our only regret is that we didn't order bread to sop up the extra sauce from our dishes. It was a shame to leave something that good on the plate.

Our large group enjoyed a satisfying meal with outstanding service. What more could one ask? I’d like to tell you the bourbon with ginger cocktail we enjoyed, but I can’t see it on the website menu. Perhaps the manager can reply? It was fantastic. And I don’t like bourbon. We ordered a wide selection of appetizers. None disappointed. We ordered the special - Roast Duck, as well as scallops, pork, beef, salmon. Each one of us loved our choice...although the scallops were a bit light - for the price the dish probably could have been larger. We topped it off with dessert, one of everything and passed it around. So good. I’d recommend The Kitchen for large gatherings, as well as relaxed, intimate meals. It wasn’t too loud, and the ambiance felt comfortable. I’ll return if I can on my next visit to Chicago.

We stopped for Sunday brunch. Even though we hadn't booked, we were seated after waiting half an hour. Well-kept place with excellent views of the river. Unfortunately, as it was a rainy day, only the internal spaces were usable. Average prices in Chicago with smaller portions than in the USA. Good choice on the menu between sweet and savory. Good selection there cocktails. Helpful staff

My friends and I opted to order all appetizers and champagne for a spontaneous celebration late one evening. Booked through Open Table. Excellent and fun staff. Very attentive. Will definitely return to try more of the menu.

Have to admit I wasn’t too excited about dinner here with friends when I read the menu on-line but was pleasantly surprised at the restaurant. Great location right on the river (although we had a large group and were not able to be seated outside). None of us walked away disappointed. I had the pasta and was satisfied. Service was fine, especially with a group of 12. Enjoy!

We really weren’t sure what to expect since we are from a different state but I wish I could regularly visit this spot. It’s really comfortable yet beautifully designed and filled with light. The food and drinks were very yummy and the service was perfect. Thank you!

My daughter and I enjoyed a delicious meal at The Kitchen last night. A perfect evening on the river. We chose to eat outside, although there is seating inside also. The wine list is extensive, and we enjoyed our glasses of rosea ( unsure of spelling) . We ordered a rib eye, 14 oz, at $39. Carrots and baked potatoes which were extras as pricing is alacarte. Everything was absolutely delicious! Service was outstanding!

We went here for brunch during my friend's bachelorette party and it was super cute! I had a veggie and grain salad which was very good. It was a little warm in there and they didn't seem to have any air on because they had windows open to the seating area on the balcony outside. Otherwise it was a great visit.

Great food, superb service, great wine and wonderful environment. An excellent way to end a wonderful holiday

My colleges and I we working in Chicago and picked The Kitchen for dinner. What a big disappointment ! My food was room temperature and tasteless. I expect more from a $29 entree and at a highly rated restaurant. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Chicago. Too bad we picked a mediocre one.

Tried the Restaurant Week 2023 Menu. Food was absolutely amazing. The flavors were amazing..exploding...include the wine pairings...it was an experience. The staff was great! I felt as if we went away for a couple of hours & came back to reality when we left and crossed the street to get the car. Dishes made you say "gatdamn", this is delicious....other explicits that may be inappropriate. On my list of favorite restaurants

It's hard to summarize our visit: On the one hand there is the spectacular night view and setting near the windows, good service, a somewhat loud yet still borderline acceptable interior, well, and then the food. Pork chops we're unacceptable, the meat of the 'Butcher's Cut' steak was excellent, and wonderfully prepared 'a-point', the meatballs, tomato soup and short ribs were very good, the "coated" French Fries we're disgraceful, soggy, yet burned, hard to justify that something like that makes it out of the kitchen. Overall not a round experience, and entirely overpriced. Won't be back. We enjoyed our two bottles of Bourgogne, though.

A little bit disappointed, slow service (1 hour wait for food), no kids menu and the food was served cold and uncooked . The red Wine was also served cold.

The was our first time at the Kitchen and we really enjoyed the experience. We took advantage of their valet parking for $15 - reasonable and easy to get in and out. We were a party of three - my wife our friend Carol and myself. We started with two appetizers - the Gulf Shrimp Hushpuppies with castle valley mills cornmeal, hot pepper honey and the Grilled BBQ Pork Skewers with pork belly, roasted tomatillo salsa, cumin crema both I would highly recommend. Each of these came in servings of two but they easily accommodated us to make both a three serving so each of us could sample. Then my wife loved her Pasta Bolognese with rigatoni, beef, pork, lamb, parmesan she said it was very rich and flavorful. Our friend Carol had the Pan Seared Salmon with skuna bay salmon, bok choy, shiitakes, smoky bacon broth, hazelnut-parsley pesto which she really enjoyed. I had the Seared Scallops with buxton boats scallops, thai yellow curry, jasmine rice, pink grapefruit - I asked to remove the grapefruit and they did with pleasure. The service was very good and attentive. The space is really nice with great big windows to see Michigan Ave. I highly recommend you give this place a try.

We have been restricting our dining out due to Covid. The Kitchen was one of the 1st for us to come back to. No disappointments here. The service was excellent. There were new chairs at the tables that were comfortable. Two dishes we had were outstanding the Crab fried rice and the Quail was perfect. Very nice wine by the glass selection.

I have to start out that I just don't like their menu- that however is the only thing I don't like about this place- the decor, the atmosphere is the real reason to go- it is beautiful in an industrial place- everyone that works here is friendly and fun. Love to go to this place- outside is great too- great spot to watch all the river activity- what I order is always good but I think it is an odd menu. Nothing really stands out but yet I would go back again.

This restaurant is situated on the canal. It has a great looking bar area and then past that the seating, with an open kitchen facing the water. The decor is modern but warm. The hostesses greeting us were friendly and we got a great seat (we were there somewhat early). Our waiter was also great but the problem was, they sat all six of his tables almost at once. He had a sizable window section which may have been part of it. Still he did a good job with what he was given although he was rushed. I should also divulge that early in our careers my husband was a chef and I worked in food and beverage/hospitality so we can't help but notice how things are done! We shared an app which was good. My husband had steak which was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. I however had the shrimp risotto which was cold upon arrival. I honestly tried to eat it but could not. I had to send it back and it returned about 10 minutes later, not piping hot, but hot enough to eat. A good risotto is a joy to behold, but this was not made to order. I know this because risotto takes a solid 20 minutes to make to order. This is difficult in a busy kitchen so many places make it earlier and re-heat. But the shrimp were also pre-cooked for which there is no excuse. I think if they are an upscale establishment they should either cook the risotto to order or take it off them menu. Unfortunately this really downgraded our dining experience. With so many great places to eat in Chicago I am not sure I would recommend this one.

Nice location on the river. met up with friends on a saturday evening. was hoping for outdoor seating ... but they only have tables for 2 outdoors, so that was the only disappointment. would definitely come back, food and service was excellent.

Incredible evening with friends. The food was really enjoyable and tastes incredible. For starters we had the tomato melon salad, mussels and lamb meatballs. The entries were all great. Highly recommend.

The river view is the best thing about this place; the food is mostly unremarkable. Average hummus and burger (not cooked to order), hushpuppies dry/bland, chicken sandwich dry. The exception is the excellent butterscotch pot de creme. Nice staff.

The location of The Kitchen is optimal as are the views. Although it is more so an upscale restaurant, it is relaxed and not pretentious. A few tables had small children (very well behaved), small groups, large groups. It was a nice mix. That being said, the real treat was with the food and service. Regarding the latter, our water glasses were always filled, the food arrived on time, we were given good guidance and we never felt crowded or imposed upon. And the food was just right. All four of us, one being a restaurateur, were extremely pleased with our dishes. My three companions raved about the tenderness of their salads... something that I rarely hear. I began my meal with the cauliflower pops, which were lightly breaded, wonderfully seasoned and not greasy. They were so tasty that I had to clean the plate. The two of us who ordered fish entrees-- whitefish and the trout special-- were so pleased with the freshness and the flavors. The other two at the table were equally as impressed with the Ribeye and pork chop dishes as they were tender and cooked to their liking. Additionally, we received excellent recommendations regarding wine pairings, and the complimentary dessert of butterscotch pudding was the icing on the cake: the latter was not sweet at all, and the texture and flavor were just lovely. This was a perfect evening and truly pleasurable dining experience.

The kitchen was an impressive Chicago restaurant. My wife and I had New Year’s Eve reservations at 8:30, which is rather late for us, we loved being there at that hour. Our waiter, Patrick, was excellent. He was polite, kind, and very honest about his recommendations. I ordered wild salmon which had corn and toasted bulgur (whatever that was, it was quite good), while my wife ordered the whitefish. It’s interesting to me how chefs can present these fish dinners in so many ways. We frequently order these back home in Detroit. I drank a Stoli and tonic which had three large clear ice cubes. It was perfect. Bravo to one of the five (yes, five) bartenders who worked that night. Only thing we didn’t care for was the tart cherries dessert. Just not that great.

Three of us went to Kitchen American Bistro to celebrate one of our birthdays. An excellent choice. A nice selection of food for our varied tastes, good appetizers and a dessert that three of us shared. Mixed drinks were good. Nice wine selection. Kitchen American Bistro is on our “return to” list.

Went to Chicago for a girls weekend and had our last dinner here after visiting Millennium Park. Went on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Chicago. Right on the water, the restaurant has a funky, upscale vibe, but not in the least pretentious. Servers were all friendly and down to earth. Unique menu broken down into small plates, snacks, entrees and deserts. We got one from each category to share and were not disappointed. I'm a wine drinker, but my friend likes mixed drinks. She was very happy with the quality of the drinks. Just a great dinner.

My friend and I visited The Kitchen for dinner and were seated facing the Riverwalk on a beautiful evening. The hosts were so welcoming, and server Russell promptly greeted us. He was incredibly charming and friendly, and really knew the menu, with great food and drinks recommendations. I ordered the Strange Bedfellows cocktail, which I loved (created by my son Riskin at the Kitchen Boulder location.) The carrots were a surprise, SO tasty, and the fries and small plates with a yummy lobster roll were wonderful, too. We absolutely loved the S’mores dessert, so rich and satisfying. Sitting on the Riverwalk on a beautiful evening, absorbing the lively atmosphere while enjoying delicious drink and food and the attentive service of Russell—one of the best servers ever—-was a highlight of our trip! And you DON’T have to be related to a staff member, I’ve had the same stellar experience at The Kitchen every time without ever mentioning my son.

Stopped here after work one night. It seemed like a great location along the river. The atmosphere was really good, it was busy for a Tuesday night, which is also good to see! I ordered the sirloin steak with braised greens. The steak was done perfectly, and the greens were very tasty. The sauce on the greens was a nice touch of spicy and savory. It left me wanting more! The only downside was the price for the what you get. The food was excellent, but I left the place still hungry. The servings seem too small for the higher price.

We landed in Chicago on our first day of the boys trip and were looking for some place that could accommodate several different cravings. We landed at The Kitchen. The experience was excellent from start to finish. A varied sharing/family style menu left everyone with options that intrigued them. The menu was well laid out to differentiate what would be a “starter” vs an “entree”. We ordered a nice variety to try this interesting menu. First out were the carrots, which came highly recommended by our incredible server Fiona (more on her in a second). Dish after dish, we were astonished how everything was just delicious. To top off the experience was Fiona, an incredibly energetic fountain of knowledge and a personality that is as amazing as the food. Engaging is putting it mildly. Sweet, fun, and wildly entertaining. She made the evening that much more special. I would highly recommend putting The Kitchen on your to-do list of visits to Chicago. And ask for Fiona!!

I was at our downtown office looking for a place to meet friends for dinner. The Kitchen was fun, young and had a good vibe. The food was excellent and I really enjoyed my steak it was sensational. Was not as happy with the sticky toffee dessert, I know it was not promised to be like those I have eaten in the UK... but it was lacking flavor. I would eat there again if I had the opportunity.

Delicious meal including dessert. Attentive and friendly staff. Great atmosphere right on Chicago River. Highly recommend.

Excellent experience overall. Food and Wine were both excellent. Bradley (waiter) was very knowledgeable, helpful and gave us good advice on which dishes/sizes to select and which wine would go best. Overall a lovely bar & restaurant - well worth visiting whether you on holiday or a local.

Our family had a wonderful dinner. The food was inventive and exceptionally prepared, our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful, and the cocktails were excellent. The location right on the river is a beautiful setting for any family or friend event.

I went back again to this restaurant in Chicago and I must say they have consistent service and delicious food. My friend and I had a half dozen oysters both Kusshi and Beau Solei then migrated to a delicious tomato soup and then to a lovely wild salmon each of which were delicious. To pair, we had a lovely prosecco with the oysters and then moved to a barbera d'alba which was lovely. For dessert, I has a delicious affogato which is strong coffee poured over ice cream. This is a must visit restaurant in Chicago and great for business.

Lovely restaurant overlooking the river. We were a bit early for the normal brunch crowd, however, they seated us considering they were just opening the doors. Loved their blend of rustic and art deco but more importantly, the food was excellent! We were visiting Chicago from "downstate", so it was a little pricey compared to our usual standards, but we expected that being in the City and it was very much worth the price! Highly recommend it!

We had a great meal with friends at The Kitchen. I gave them the heads up that we would be celebrating a few birthdays in our group and they accommodated us with an awesome table along the windows with great views as well as birthday desserts and champagne :). Liz was a very attentive server and did a great job advising and keeping the food and drink coming. Several in our group had the scallops and salmon and were very pleased. I particularly enjoyed the hush puppies. We will be back!

We were a party of four, so sadly we could not sit outside as they only have one table for four on the water, but more two people hightop tables. We shared the hushpuppies and fish tacos wrapped in lettuce to start. The double cheeseburgers were a hit, as was the roasted mushroom sandwich. When my piri piri chicken sandwich was forgotten, they graciously removed it from the bill.

I came here in Jan for a group dinner. I was really happy with the service then and hoped for a repeat. We weren't disappointed!! We will be back.

Great place - love the bar, space, location, food and simplistic design. Food was a nice modern take on traditional fare with a good wine list.

Greeted with smiles and a friendly attitude by Marcos and Megan, even tho the place was standing room only on Saturday night. A huge, wide open space with giant glass windows looking out over the river and a ware house style feel to it, very boisterous and noisy, enormous bar, obviously popular. Small plate menu, not a huge selection, but our server Graham was excellent and knowledgeable and helped us order tasty grilled shrimp hush puppies and recommended the rock shrimp small tacos as well. Again, small portions, but a fun vibe and great service . Recommend reservations!!

I took the husband for Sweetest Day and I wanted a few things prior to our arrival. The restaurant and Amina specifically took very good care of me and my special requests. The evening was perfect. He was very surprised and pleased. The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent. I couldn't have asked for a better date location. Thank you! We will definitely return.

I came in here with my wife and two of my kids, 19 and 23. There were glasses of wine and bottles of beer for three of us and we ordered some of the "starters" for sharing. Apparently many of the starters only have THREE items (three meatballs, three tacos, etc) so the server asked if we wanted to upgrade those for FOUR because we were 4 people. Good idea. Everything was fine but nothing was really WOW. The shrimp hush puppies were pretty good. My wife and daughter then ordered a couple more small plates and my son ordered a ribeye steak and some potatoes. The potatoes were good. The steak had a decent flavor but it was REALLY tough and very fatty... like tough fat that no one is eating. A good 40% of the steak was left on the plate because the cut of meat was just not good. No deserts for any of us and with the tip the bill was $311. I'm honestly not impressed. Other things: The server was okay but didn't come back and see us very often. Some of the items on the menu were not available. The space is pretty cool and well-decorated and there was a decent crowd in here for 7pm on a Wednesday night. Also, my wife asked for a table by the window and they said they would give us one but when we got there we did not get a table by the window. There are a lot of great places to eat and hang out in Chicago and my wife and I agreed that this was more of a disappointment than anything else. We probably won't be back.

Has amazing fried cheese curds as app but the special was a salmon burger. It was dry and rather fishy. Ordered side of carrots which were inconsistent and a bit under seasoned. Good beer choices. Looked like there was some river facing outside tables. We wanted indoor but those tables might be nice if the weather is nice.

We came in and the hostess told us we’d be seated as soon as her co-host was back. No problem. Yet we waited about 30 mins right next to the hostess stand with no sense of awareness we were there. Bad job. We seated ourselves at the bar and had a wonderful experience from that point forward. The bar tender was great, drinks and food were awesome, location is awesome. Too bad the hostess gave us a really poor first impression of the place. It’s easy to just acknowledge your customers and inform them of a wait instead of ignore them all together.

Nice view on the river, good food. Waitress was correct but pretty pushy (even angry) regarding her tip..something I’ve never experienced before.

Delicious pasta, great river view and espectacular food!!!! We were traveling and decided to come here, never expected to have such a great time and delicious food !!!!!

We are going to go ahead skip the paltry food and sub standard service. The restaurant mopped a main entryway and had inadequate signage. Upon leaving the restaurant I slipped and fell on a wet floor. As I struggled to get up, not a single employee came to my aid. I was covered in filth and grime. After paying nearly $100 for a meal, the managers idea of recompense was to pay for my dry cleaning. I hurt myself and my pride and wasn't even offered a towel to clean the grime off. DO NOT EVER COME HERE. INHUMANE!!!

I was so glad to have found the Kitchen. We were a party of 4 in Chicago for a conference and wanted to eat some good food for dinner, and the Kitchen delivered. Appetizer of the cold cuts and cheese were excellent, then a side of the duck fat potatoes - I'll get fat on this dish any day. For entrees 2 ordered the Bolognese and loved it, I got the salmon and the other person order the white fish from the lake - Loved! Cocktails were excellent from the smooth whiskey and soda to my oaxacan mix drink with Mezcal (they spelled oaxacan in a funny way though ;) I will visit the Kitchen again if I have a chance in the future.

Located on the Chicago River, The Kitchen was really great with both service and food. I have never had each course taste excellent each time. Servers were there when needed but not hovering or distracting. The food was exotic enough (to make me wonder if this is what I wanted) and wonderfully flavorful. Pleasantly surprised. Not thrilled with the wine for the price, but everything made up for it.

Three of us had brunch on a recent Saturday and it was very good. The menu is limited, but covers all the categories, including burgers and steak. Our choices covered a broad spectrum and were all delicious. The salmon was lightly smoked, and felt very much "farm to table"; it was really good. One friend is vegetarian and thought the mushroom sandwich was one of the best she has had. All the meals were very well done. They were promoting rose wine when we were there and the waiter was knowledgeable on which of the choices was the driest. We all agree we would return Our selections that day were: Avocado Toast aleppo chili, radish, pickled red onion, sprouts & poached egg 17 Smoked Salmon Toast scrambled eggs & chive crème fraîche 17 Roasted Mushroom Sandwich braised red russian kale, gruyère, garlic aioli & simple greens 15

We spontaneously stepped in on a Sunday night and enjoyed a delicious mix of plates to share, along with a nice bottle of wine. Definitely one of the very good places we have been overseas for dinner during our travel in US and Canada. Sitting on the terrasse, we had a nice view and mostly quite dinner (a few lowder boats passing by) close to the Chicago River! Hostess+Waitress very welcoming and friendly 😊 Absolutely delicious goat cheese cake!

Uff da. The food was delicious, the service very good, the only negative was the LOUD MUSIC at 1045 am Saturday morning. We asked if it could be turned down and they said "certainly" but if it was....it was cranked back up. Yes, in spite of that we would return the next time we visit our son and his wife (we are from out of state). Great place. Bring ear plugs just in case.

We've stopped in to The Kitchen a couple times over the last year to get out of the heat and enjoy a drink and snack. Again last week we found a table after a short wait and enjoyed drinks and the hummus plate. We had a very pleasant server who accommodated our needs and made us feel right at home. Someday I'll go back for lunch or dinner--but definitely happy to know The Kitchen is a good place to cool off on a hot afternoon looking over the Chicago River.

Wow! I loved the ambiance, the food, the drinks (I had the bottomless mimosa - which really is bottomless with refills and well-worth the price if you plan on drinking at least two. We all ordered the Farmers Breakfast (basically eggs, toast, meat, potatoes). Everyone was pleased, They were out of the Bavarian waffles - next time. Price point was reasonable for downtown Chicago. Service was very good and friendly.

Ok, this is Chicago and we are tourists that did not know where to go. The positive: The location and views are great. Nice place and great atmosphere. We ordered a bottle of Rose from Provence for $48, it took a few minutes for the wine to come out because they had to fill it from a keg into a bottle (?). So it came in a bottle w/o label and also only 4/5 full (?). Strange to be honest. The food was just ok... So, touristy with a nice view. Would we be back? Probably not...
I CONFIRM TOO... DESERVES!
As per the title. Found thanks to TA following a trip to Chicago's river walk area. Very large room (large indoor room and some outdoor tables are directly overlooking the river) neat and clean. Interesting menu ... both in breadth and quality of food and ingredients (many also from sustainable agriculture + gluten options , vegan etc ) Very good service. Average (local) prices. I would still say good value for money service. RECOMMENDATION:
