Unique menu

By markdu2017 |

The sausage board is very tasty, featuring rabbit, boar and buffalo. They have a good selection of bourbon, not so much on the wine list though. Unique menu and unique art. My only complaint was the music near the bar was so loud my wife and I could hardly hear each other.

It's trendy and it knows it

By J Eliza A |

No one would accuse the Lions Share of being stuffy. The decor is fun- with regal looking nice artwork "decorated" with modern touches like painted fingernails and eye make up. The hostess was really friendly and willing to do whatever she could for her customers. We were there in time for happy hour, which is the best time to go- some apps are about half off, and the fancy craft drinks are cheap enough to justify ordering. They were all delicious- especially the deviled eggs. Entrees were pretty good, but overpriced for what they were. I ordered a glass of wine after happy hour, and of course the waiter suggested the most expensive one of the menu. He even seemed sort of irritated that I even asked. He was a little too cool for school, but all in all, it was really good.

High quality food

By St_Hilarius |

High quality food, super friendly staff, loved the atmosphere. Great food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Great food and hip atmosphere

By Kevin M |

Crazy paintings with animal heads replacing historical humans/figures adorn the walls, and the food is impeccable. A bit over priced, but the cocktails and ambiance makes it worthwhile.

Cool Vibe, Awesome Service, Great Menu, Superior Drink Concoctions.

By Tina455 |

The drinks can't be beat. Mixologists are crazy good. It was unseasonally warm for San Diego, and a little too warm inside. I really liked the atmosphere. The paintings on the wall very interesting. Little cool different things that you will have to go there to experience. I am giving them only a 4 stars as the foie gras I ordered was as small as a stick and half of gum, and same thickness. What a rip off. Also, the halibut was a small portion.

Unique dishes

By Indiananimal |

A pub with cool and quirky art themed around the Lions share fable set the decor. The menu has options that are from the cookie cutter template used by the chains. Bison , rabbit antelope and beyond. Paired with craft drafts and it's a great dining experience. Our server was great and walked us through the menu.

Unusual menu, good cocktails, nice ambiance

By Helen E |

I researched it online and knew the menu was great, game-heavy with interesting ingredients. We started with a couple of cocktails and appetizers *deviled eggs and rabbit sausage), they have really good deals during during happy hour. If I lived in the neighborhood I'd go there often. Then we had dinner with a couple of glasses of Portuguese red. Quail was delicious, with a nice combination of sweet-and-sour (waffle and greens). Wild Boar Bolognese was good too. The ambiance is nice, lots of polished wood, candles, flowers, hunting theme to match the menu. Service was friendly and attentive.

If Vincent Price Opened a Restaurant, This Would Be It

By Brian S |

Remember the line from the Mel Brooks film, "Robin Hood, Men In Tights" where Richard Lewis said "It looks like a seder at Vincent Price's house"? That's my second impression of The Lion's Share. This place is part of a trend in trying to be as weird as possible, possibly in order to avoid comparison. The food does look like a seder at Price's house and if you don't know who Vincent Price was, you are in this restaurant's target market. If you are over 35, go elsewhere. This is a trendy place for trendy people who really don't care what they eat or how much they spend. Cocktails are good and also weird but a few make sense. The one I had was good but overpriced. The names are so goofy I could not remember what it was called while I was still drinking it. I was dragged here for unhappy hour by colleagues who wanted to munch of plates of strangeness. I think one was braised missionary in seaweed sauce but I can't be sure. If I saw a human hand come out on a plate it would not surprise me. This is one of those places to see and be seen, to posture, to convince yourself of the good time you are having. Honestly I would have preferred a Tim Hortons to this. By far. Service was just ok on this trip, not as good as before. The boxes below ask if the restaurant "serves American food". I have no idea. I don't know what kind of cuisine this is.

Great!

By Sleepfairy1962 |

Inventive menu, close walk from hotel, homey dark decor. Menu limited but most people will find something to try with the exception of the vegetarian. Mai Tai was good but way too much ice so drink was extremely limited. Maybe 4 ounces. $11 drink is only holding me back from giving this place 5 starz. Burger and fries was EXCELLENT! Bartender friendly, great service. Wanted the pumpkin bread pudding but was too full. Next time, will definitely be back!

love lion share

By EatDrinknbMarried |

love the food and drinks at lion share, especially the deep fried quail and waffle and also their appetizers. they keep their menu pretty fresh, too, and based on the season. always a good choice

Good food, Nice Atmosphere, Great Service

By NYCJONES13 |

I was in town for business but took my father to this restaurant. The food selection was somewhat limited, but what we ordered was pretty good - not excellent, but good. The atmosphere is dark wood and low lighting so the ambiance is interesting. The waitress was great and very helpful in helping us make our selections. This place will not appeal to everyone, but it's a nice place for the others.

Quick bite and drink

By webtravelreview |

We wanted a bite to eat and a drink before heading back to the hotel. This place is so unique. We sat at the the bar and chatted with the bar tender. Such friendly people there. We had beer, hamburger and the bread pudding. Oh my gosh, the best bread pudding. Stop in.

Delicious Food in a Fun Atmosphere

By Karin B |

We ate at the Lion's Share on our first night in San Diego, and loved our meal here. It is truly a meat-lover's delight! We liked the quirky decor and speakeasy-type vibe. The service and food were both excellent. We had the duck sausage and brussels sprouts to start, followed by the duck breast, elk flank, and steak frites for our entrees. We capped off the meal with the chocolate budino (like chocolate mousse) for dessert. Everything was so delicious! The one thing I would note is that the music is a little loud, so I would not recommend going here if you want quiet conversation. But if you want creative cocktails, delicious food, and a fun pub atmosphere, then this is the place for you!

Great food fun menu

Great restaurant with an interesting menus, terrific food, good service and reasonable prices. Excellent!

Interesting food

We stopped by because of the interesting menu. The outdoor patio was decorated very cute. The different options of meat were interesting and delicious. The staff was very attentive and friendly.

Different in s good way

By JimmyJackk |

I have been here once before several years ago and was sad I didn't get to try the Antelope sliders. That has changed and they were terrific highly recommend this different but very good restaurant.

Great place for appetizers and cocktails

By miatennis |

I would recommend this place for their small plates and cocktails but not for dinner. I am a wine drinker and rarely indulge in cocktails but I have to say that their cocktails are the best. I only have a cocktail here. We stumbled upon this place because we were looking for a place where we could get a late bite to eat. We really enjoyed the small plates, especially the antelope sliders and the sausage plate with rabbit, buffalo, and other assorted game. However, we tried it for dinner one night and the halibut special was disappointing because it was overcooked and dry. The buffalo carbonara was salty and uneventful. So as long as you stick to the small plates which have all been excellent and the cocktails or wine selection is adequate, you should be fine.

Unique bar food

By Igorek007 |

We enjoyed our dinner. Menu is quite interesting. Atmosphere is definitely unique. We took wild burger, salmon and hunger steak. Food was excellent. Service was great. Waitress also brought dessert for our son's birthday, which was a very nice touch. The only problem was noise and It was difficult to talk.

Amazing drinks

By Aimee S |

Very cool atmosphere! Drinks were great! They have such a large cocktail menu. We had a few appetizers to share which were amazing. Best and most interesting deviled eggs!

Most unique menu

By love2travel071187 |

The menu had many nontraditional items. The antelope sliders were incredible but the quail was done just right. The restaurant is very small and can be very loud at times, but worth it. Beer selection is ok but you go for the food. Easy to get to from the train.

Wonderful dinner for last night in SD

By gls70 |

Lovely place near Seaport, the athmosphere is old smoky and a little dark, decor is fun and we liked the stories on the menu and on the table. Food is fantastic with a great choice of unusual meats, burgers are also great. Carrot cake original and delicious. At last I would like to write a mention for Kayli: she is really amazing, professional but also nice and kind !!! I strongly reccomend this place for dinner

A Solid Choice for those seeking a unique dining experience coupled with good service!

By Boston Connoisseur |

Ordered ToGo to take back to a nearby hotel. Ordered the Taco appetizer, the Burger & the Bread pudding in order to get a good sampling of their offerings. That along with a single draft larger was $75 including tip. Overall, the packaging & presentation was nice and the food was very good. For those with a more basic palate, some of the offerings may be a bit exotic as they offer venison, bison & elk to name a few of their proteins. The bread pudding was very good as well, but as a connoisseur of bread pudding left a little room for improvement. The service was excellent and the employees that I interacted with appear to take pride in what they do!

Great, unique experience!

By threegirlsdad |

Was recommended by a local and thankful for it. Definitely the most unique/adventurous menu I've seen and everything we tried was tremendous! Kangaroo meatloaf was the special that night and it was amazing! Fantastic cocktail list too with incredible spirits selection. Service was a little slow, but part of the very laid back atmosphere. Cool scene and great overall experience. Very affordably priced too.

A hidden gem

By Hanna D |

This place has got it all - amazing food, good drinks, nice staff, cozy and mysterious interior and they also play great music. There's no discussion - five stars! Try for yourself!

Great hideaway for grub and cocktails.

By Bill G |

If you're in the area staying at a hotel and want nouveau pub grub and excellent drinks, look no further. Everyone was friendly even for one diner alone. The cozy place kind of swallows you up!

I'd give more than 5 stars if I could....Unexpectedly funky/hip place in SD. Unique and appreciated dining experience

By Onuff |

I've now eaten here twice. Loved it both times ! A new "GO TO" place for me in downtown San Diego. Warning: This mainly a place where meat consumption is high, amazing food is served, and those that appreciate unique and great cocktails gather in interesting and funky decor. Go to there website and you will see ! Too hard to completely describe. They do have some vegetarian dishes. One I've had before were the braised carrots...man the best carrots I've ever had...but alas the last time they didn't have (some menu items rotate I was told). So instead I had the carmelized cauliflower (marinated in curried yogurt then pan fried to goodness with pine nuts and mint....mind blown as was not expecting how good it would be ! Also have enjoyed their take on ceviche (Aji Amarillo Ceviche; local snapper-pepitas-cilantro-lime foam served with plantain chips. I also like their Bison Tartare (with fried capers, shallots, fermented chili sauce, egg yold, and grilled rye). I think the egg yolk was smoked as as it had a unique taste and texture. Last time also had the Wild Style Burger (with boar bacon, fried egg, aged white cheddar, truffle fries). On the menu they have elk loin, boar sausage poutine, pork belly, lamb tongue tacos, antelope sliders, salmon, chicken, quail.....and their hangar steak comes with bone marrow bernaise ! Then there are the drinks....they are quite good, unique, and great strength. One of my favorites is the De La Louisiane (Rye, Cognac, Benedictine, Peychaud's bitters, Absynthe). If you don't like what you see, they asked on one visit what you like in a drink as they were offering that the bartender would create a custom drink based upon what you are looking for ! Beer and wine selection great as well. (I think they have made best places for cocktails list in SD before) As far as decor and atmosphere...check out the website. Funky...subdued lighting from eclectic chandaliers, eclectic animal-centric take on known paintings. Best of all , I found out last visit that they have happy hour from 4-6. But don't spread the word too much so I can get a table ! A have to experience dining delight in San Diego and a great place to take visitors or someone you'd like to impress...they will think you have great taste and it will up your cool rep. Recommend reservations so you're not left out in the cold!! This is a smaller funky den.

Eclectic Food

By @atracks |

I went for dinner on a business trip, the food was more on the adventurous side for me. Elk, Camel, Venison etc and had the following. Bruchetta: Phenomenal. Very small portions but the bread it was on was spectacular Meat and Cheese Board: Solid, pretty good size actually for the price Truffle Fries: Good but nothing great. Not as crispy as I would have liked. Our Burger: It was pretty run of the mill, not anything spectacular.

Weird with Areas of Comfort

By Brian S |

This restaurant is unique to say the least. It is trying to be another Tractor Room but with more kitsch. The paintings on the walls all with animal heads is a give-away that it is just a different sort of place. They follow the trend toward exotic meats. I believe one day I will walk into a SD restaurant and find poached missionary on the menu. They do offer a burger as a safety valve for those not into the odd to weird offerings, so a big plus there. Cocktails are quite inventive, good and reasonably priced for exotic drinks. The house French fries were fantastic. The sausage board featuring four meats, all arranged like little dog piles did not work for me. The sausage texture was too coarse and just not pleasant. The burger was a hit and I would go back for that. My only real complaint is the seating. The hard metal chairs send a message of "gulp and go". Just uncomfortable enough to make me not want to linger there. Service was excellent. They're trying to be a bit highbrow but that's okay. Servers know the menus and are attentive without hovering.

Great food and cocktails

By Scott T |

Not the kid friendliest, but the outstanding food and cocktails more than made up for it. We only tried 3, but I’m confident you can’t order a bad drink there, and you can easily make a meal from their happy hour menu (4-6 nightly).

Really enjoyed dinner tonight!

By n2r49rs |

We will definitely be going back here! Everything was delicious! Ambiance is unique for San Diego. It has a really cool old world, pub vibe with a bar in the back and dining room in the front. Service was top notch offering really good recommendations. None of the line where everything on the menu is good. We started with grilled oysters and frog legs. Both were stunning. Best frog legs I probably have ever had. For entrees we had Coq au Vin and steak with frites that was the Teres Major cut….amazing. The beef was like a more flavorful filet. It was super tender and flavorful. Very small portion of a cow which is probably why I have t heard of it before, highly recommend!

Outstanding cocktails and excellent victuals at this pub

By Cincinnati-Bill |

The Lion's Share is across the street and streetcar line from Seaport Village and the Grand Hyatt. It is a comfortable, dark pub that offers outstanding craft cocktails and excellent food. The cocktails include special creations and the classics - offered in several intriguing variations. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the liquors and blends, and offered good suggestions. I had a "De La Louisiane," followed by an old American style old-fashioned (bourbon and apple jack), and a "New York Flip" for dessert, since I wanted to try a shaken cocktail after the first two stirred. All were delicious. The ice in the stirred cocktails is hand cut from crystal blocks out of a Clinebell, making the presentation very pretty. The quality of these drinks was top notch. The food at our table included a sausage board and hamachi sashimi as appetizers, followed by hanger steaks and a grilled salmon. We had no trouble cleaning off the plates of delicious, excellent food. Portion size was appropriate. This is a great place. It was not crowded on a Wednesday night, the music was not too loud, and the whole experience was nice.

Come here for something a little different

By WilfordTerrier |

A true meat-eater's paradise - especially if you like your meats to come out of left field! You don't often see Antelope, Boar, Elk and Rabbit on the same menu but this place manages just that. Our group of colleagues kicked off with a cocktail and some sharing platters before going our own ways on the mains. Our waitress was very helpful with some recommendations - especially on the wine list - and the food itself was superb. It's a little off the beaten track and the menu does appear to be a bit bizarre, but it's worth it, trust me!

MUST visit

By Kelly27986 |

If you come to San Diego you must try this restaurant. Delicious food, excellent service and a huge cocktails list. Make sure you try the salted caramel pudding and the rabbit pie!

Employees were pleasant enough.

By YOUYOIU |

It was somewhat slow and the prices are high for fast food. But I don't think that's within the control of that specific location. Employees were pleasant enough.

Awesome

By Michelle R |

My husband found this restaurant online with great reviews. We are so glad we tried it. My husband had a delicious old fashioned. The food was delicious - carrots, salad, elk loin. And the best part - chocolate chip banana bread pudding with peanut butter whipped cream. Service was perfect (thanks josh) and the wine was half price. Can't ask for more. We will be back. Cheers from Canada.

Just a really unique and enjoyable restaurant. Split the sausage platter and split the camel tacos and antelope sliders with a friend. Good craft cocktails and Great service too.

One of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at

By Elizabeth M |

The atmosphere is super relaxed but still upscale. They have an extensive drink list with a really fun variety of upscale pub food. I raved about this place to my friend who also ate here while in San Diego.....they also loved it. Wild game is well done in this little gem.

Serious contender for best food in San Diego

By bigboy61455 |

After reading negative reviews and avoiding those touristy restaurants in Seaport Village, this small, unassuming place, just across the street from Manchester Grand Hyatt, is the place to visit. May be food is better because it is not in infamous tourist trap place. Service: - At a first glance, this place is dark, showing funny pictures on the wall with sticky, old tables (yeah, at least they should make them less sticky). There is loud, punk or somewhat hippie music at background. It looks like a typical British pub but food will make even British proud. - But, servers know their business and can go over each and every item on menu and able to make good suggestions. Food: - Each plate is intelligently designed and plated to a perfection. Do I need to say, price is also reasonable here. - As many reviews previously mentioned, try their exotic appetizers (they even have Venison Carpaccio, Antelope Sliders, Boar Sausage Poutine, etc). - I tried a) Rabbit Hand Pie: very homey, gamey, salty and delicious. Genius idea of putting carrot puree (like actual carrot pieces) and matched the pie perfect. It is like making a super carrot but just getting an extract and putting back to the plate and even non-carrot fan like me can appreciate it. Oh, I forgot to mention, Rabbit pie is made with duck fat to be extra yummy. b) foie gras: is perfectly seared -- yes it is back in California, baby while PETA is having grand mal seizures! Bread slices and plenty of neutralizing fruit products, e.g. strawberry to fight the fat. c) For deserts, Salted Caramel Pudding is good (again with a twist, puree form) but chocolate, orange cake is better. How this tiny place, with a tiny kitchen I assume can produce quality, well designed food while those so called "fine dining" places across the street are struggling to produce a decent, consistent plate. May be they don't care like in similar tourist trap places e.g. Venice.

Great food at fair price

By John H. |

Really nice restaurant off the gaslight district. Thanks to TripAdvisor we found this wonderful place. The decoration is really crazy - try to see for yourselves. Allthough it was a busy evening - the waiter was quick to take our orders. The food was sublime. Our party had bolognese, chicken and burgers. The burgers were really juicy and the fries were top notch especially if you love garlic. Come and try for yourself - you wont be dissappointed

Great spot for drinks

By SheriN2 |

We only stopped for a cocktail (so I can not comment on the food but the menu did look interesting) The cocktails were great. This is a true craft cocktail bar. The atmosphere is very cool. It's dark and a little noisy but its still great. The art is eclectic. The crowd is young and trendy (I am not young and trendy but still felt very comfortable here) I thought it was a great spot.

A hidden gem within the high rises of the Marina district

By Thi N |

Game meat specials only? NOT quiet because when it comes to Seafood they know how to do it just right! I have to say that when it comes to cuisine I'm very harsh with Asian food and secondly I'm tough on seafood selection. I want to ask the guys at Lions Share where they get their seafood because it was super fresh!!! I love this place and have introduce numerous people here and they all love it. Ambiance is fun, employees are fantastic and food is phenomenal. I think it's very difficult for a restaurant to specialize in one area but also get the rest of their menu right. Til date I've tried 80% of the items on this menu and everything has been superb. The menu actually changes seasonally and I go in to taste the new items when given the chance. Let me take you to an underwater experience with my latest dinning adventures at the Lion share. I first started out with the Bison Carpaccio. Apparently when I arrived that night it was a special that they had not announced yet. I was the first guest to enjoy this detectible delicacy and boy was it amazing. Drizzled with olive oil a dash of salt and pepper and topped with heirloom tomatoes, arugula and parmesan cheese shavings.. it just melted in your mouth. I do hope they've added this permanently onto the menu. The second dish I had the pleasure of trying was also new on the menu for that night. ( Let's just say I know when it's a good time to dine =o) or at least I've been lucky enough to be introduced to these new items). Chartreuseterie Board is a pairing of the Chartreuse liquor and the following food items: The first set is paired with a yellow chartreuse shot and Hamachi crudo, blood orange slices with aioli and Spanish olive oil. The hamachi sashimi was fresh and melted in your mouth like butter. The second is paired with a green chartreuse shot w/ bison tartar quail egg The third is paired with a vep yellow chartreuse shot with Spanish goat cheese & minted golden raisin syrup The final pairing is with a vep green chartreuse shot with lime panecotto juniper merascano cherry compote.. It was a perfect ending to an otherwise flawless beginning. You would take a bite of the food then a sip of the drink to marry the taste together. Mussels is served in a stone pot with a white wine sauce sprinkled with parmesan. I ate the whole thing and started sipping on the soup that it came in. Grilled whole Branzino with lemons and herbs on a salad of augrula, frisee, fingerling potatoes, melted leeks, haircot verts, and a lemon mustard vinaigrette.. This dish was to die for. The fish was properly fillet and debone. The flavors were simple yet mouth watering with every bite being as good as the one before. The fish was perfectly grilled on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. Hint: Always ask for what's the special of the night. Most of the dishes above is not on their menu yet but if you're lucky you'll get to try it like I did. Any of the guys will be able to whip an amazing cocktail for you so don't fret.

So so. Mixed feelings.

By TEGKDD |

Cocktails were inventive and expertly conceived and prepared. Antelope sliders? No condiments, hard or rubbery type bun, a little sweet. Corn chowder was too busy and not corn-forward at all. The waitress was competent but spent a lot of time engaging with the men next to us and not so much with us. Would choose differently if we return.

Very unique experience.

By Mbigner |

This hole in the wall bar/restaurant has a low light ambience of a bar and classy restaurant. The burger was grade A. There was no cheap beer here. They had small brewery draft beers. The paintings on the walls and inside the menu are intriguing, and I’m sure there is a story behind it all. I would eat here again.

Speakeasy meets cult!

By proj |

This place was awesome, the atmosphere is very strange almost like a dark speakeasy mixed with animal head-wearing portraits of people. The food was phenomenal and their signature cocktails were interesting. I recommend the wild one burger and the Mr. Peanutbutter cocktail.

Hip and Unique

By kazkey |

The decor is great. Mounted animals, odd decorative touches and a neat arrangement to mail postcards home by dropping them in a box by the door. The food was meat-heavy with some unusual protein options, which works for us. However, the quality was a little hit or miss. Some great dishes and some not-so-great dishes.3

Unique Food Experience

By Iron Viking |

i tried the bison bolognese. It was very flavorful and rich. The ambiance was nice, but with only a few people it became too loud to hear my wife. The seating is very close. I did expect some more exotic meats than what were available, but enjoyed what we got.

Fun menu, good service, cool drinks

By Shane L |

All the above, I think we were expecting better food based on reviews and the menu. The menu is really fun and eclectic. Every dish sounds good. But we were left wanting more from the food we ordered, boar bolagnese and elk loin. Good but not fantastic.

Great find and reasonably priced

By SB4SD |

We met up at this place with a group of friends who were in San Diego for a meeting and staying at a hotel across the street from the Lion's Share. The decor was very warm and cozy but at the same time quite unusual. The food was great but it would have been nice to have a few more healthier options. The food seemed pretty heavy. My daughter is a vegan so it was a bit of a challenge finding something on the menu for her. Although she loved the soup that was recommended. The prices were also quite good and the service was excellent.

Great "Game" menu

By Ann-Shirley G |

Sweet, kinky restaurant with excellent food if you like wild game. Very small venue it is best to have a reservation. Great fun art on the walls, menu is interestingly presented with art works and stories. You would never find this restaurant if you didn't know it was there. Very close to the convention centre and convention hotels.

Eatery/Bar

By Rick N Rainelle R |

Great little place. Serves a bit exotic foods. For example I had sliders. The meat was antelope. I had always heard that antelope was tough and sage flavored. It was awesome. perfectly prepared. Awesome selection of bourbons/whiskeys. Plus if you are into cocktails they have a huge selection.

A little strange, but in a good way

By mspups |

Definitely a carnivore's restaurant. They have some not-common dishes and drinks, so go here in an adventurous mood. Food preparation has always been very good every time I've been here. Happy hour is pretty darn good but it ends kind of early. They serve absinthe. The art on the wall is very strange. Reminds me of some drug trips I took when I was in college.

A Good Find

By Epps Adventures |

We happened to stumble upon this restaurant on our first night in San Diego. First, I recommend a reservation, otherwise you will likely get stuck outside and this can be pretty cold at certain times of the year despite their partially covered eating area and heaters. We ordered the special, which was a steak, lobster claw meat, and duck fat mashed potatoes, the tartare, and the TLS Burger "wild style". The food was great overall. They also have fun "zero proof" cocktails for those who don't drink, but still want to order something fun. We had a slight problem with our food, but the restaurant did do a little something to make it right. Overall the experience was good, and we would go back.

We had OUR share...

By Stella O |

Service was excellent, food was done well. Light entering the bar where our table was located was horrible anytime the front door was opened. Drinks were made well and a cool vibe and music flowed through the air, very hipsterish in vibe. We wanted to taste all the different meats tbis places boasted about, so thought, lets just go for it and try a bit of whatever we could! Food was nicely presented, although was lacking in giving that taste boom we were expecting, not bad, just not that memorable for our tastes. We had fois gras, pork belly, bison tartare, hanger steak, quail and waffle and ended with the seasonal bread pudding (strawberry and the onky thing food wise that was an instant disappointment.) I worked my way through the specialty cocktails that were made of bourbon, and the one with cinnamon tasted the best! My boyfriend tasted his way through the run, and he too liked the one with cinnamon the best from his rum options. Cocktails were definitely a hit and executed nicely! Overall we were extremely happy, full, and feeling good from the libations, which made it all the better. Thanks for the superb service and guidance from our server, Joshua you The man! We woukd definitely go back and recommend to anyone in the san diego area staying there. Overall...tab was about $200 for 3 app's, 2 entrees, and 3 drinks each + dessert.

The Place to Be

By Sophie D |

I went there last night on my own after a long day at a congress and I was not disappointed. This is just the sort of place I love: hip place, cool design, great cocktails, simple but extremely good food and really great value for money! The barmen are really friendly and if there is nothing to your liking on the cocktail list, they will create you one according to your liking! I tried 3 different cocktails - all good and I had the bruschetta for starter then the roasted carrots with goat cheese and hazelnut (simple but effective and tasty) and for dessert I had the salted caramel pudding with candied bacon: yummy! I loved it so much that I'll be back there again tonight and this time I'll bring ly colleagues along. This place will help me forget about my not so great experiences in the Gaslamp District with restaurant.

Wonderful Evening! Checks all the boxes

By n2r49rs |

We had a wonderful dinner at Lion’s Share. Menu has a focus on wild game but there are many other options as well. Ambiance is a sophisticated old school vibe. Bar area is very inviting. David was our server and he was terrific! He is very friendly and knows every detail of each dish. We started off with frog legs which were amazing, very plump and perfectly prepared with a delicious sauce for dipping. We also had the beet salad for a starter as well which we really enjoyed. For our mains we had elk chops and coq au vin. Expertly prepared! The coq au vin is not served the traditional way but we absolutely loved it! Highly recommend!

Safari Party in your Mouth

By SoVerySoCal |

We wanted to do something different and this was definitely different! With 5 people in our party, we were able to try quite a few items on the menu: The FOIE GRAS was perfectly seared with an amazing balsamic strawberry basil sauce. My only complaint is that the portion was too small. $16 The ANTELOPE SLIDERS were ordered medium and came as a set of 3. It tasted like lean beef and not at all gamey. It was too dry and needed seasoning, so we mopped up the remaining sauce from the foie gras to give it a little juice. $14 The GRILLED ATLANTIC SALMON was moist and flakey, but not too exotic. The sweet cream corn was the winner in this dish. $24 The ROASTED CHICKEN JIDORI was dry and boring. We had a few kids dining with us, so this was our Plan B in case they weren't game. Tasted like chicken and ridiculously priced at $22. The WILD BOAR BOLOGNESE was beyond al dente...it was tough and undercooked. The meat was dry and sauce was salty. We sent this dish back and asked for a do over. It came back a little softer, but not by much. $18 Our SAUSAGE BOARD came out last and consisted of rabbit, wild boar, and buffalo. Each links yielded 3 bites a piece but enough as a tasting board. The buffalo won this race as the rabbit and boar were nothing more than salty sausages. The accompanied toast was tough and useless. $16 We shared 1 dessert and chose the BREAD PUDDING. This was served in a cast iron pan and was exceptional. It was soft and buttery with a little crunch from the bake and was topped with a delicious vanilla ice cream that melted perfectly into the bread pudding. $6 Our overall meal was a huge success. The kids enjoyed the exotic meats and tried all without hesitation. The Foie Gras and Bread Pudding were clear winners. I do have to point out that service was marginal. Dishes came out slowly and sporadically, so eating family style is recommended. Our server barely checked on us, topped our water twice, did not bring out the requested hot sauce, and didn't wipe down our table after clearing our plates as he intricately placed our dessert spoons directly on the soiled table. Although they were pleasant enough to replace our beyond al dente bolognese dish, they made it seem as if it the issue was us, not them. Food was 4 stars. Minus 1 for service.

Happiest of happy hours

By mh_traveler |

Incredible food and cocktails, excellent service, interesting decor. We enjoyed the bartender’s drink: a new take on the old fashioned. We also dined on deviled eggs, rabbit sausage, roasted pumpkin, pate, and wild boar ragout. Everything was delish! Will return on our next visit to SD.

Nice selection of game meats!

By Michael M |

I hadn’t been here in very long time and had family in town, so it was perfect for some overdue happy hour fun at The Lion’s Share. They have daily happy hour from 4-6 daily, which is wonderful. There’s only street parking, which can be tricky in that area, being so close to the water and the Headquarters, but we were able to find a spot easily. The decor is eclectic, very Alice in Wonderland with a darker twist. Lots of taxidermies of various animal heads on display and creative paintings to lend to the vibes. The restaurant isn’t very large, so make sure to put in a reservation if you’re planning to eat dinner. Otherwise, the bar has a nice amount of seats and the standing room against the wall has a ledge to hold your drinks and food too. Alejandro was our bartender and he was quite knowledgeable with the drink and food menus. As we were just in there for drinks, we happened to see that they offer a Sausage Board consisting of 3 sausages: Elk, Duck, and Camel! As you don’t usually see camel served, not to mention many sausage boards either, we just had to get one to try. Alejandro explained to us that the sausages were all made in-house, along with the selection of pickles. The bread was nicely toasted and the sausages were quite large. They were all plump, juicy and well cooked! They were all amazing and we were torn on which our favorites were of the 3. Half of us chose the Elk sausage and the other half chose the Camel. I originally didn’t know if I wanted to eat camel, but I’m glad I tried it or I would have missed out knowing how delicious camel can be! The Lion’s Share is known to have a nice variety of game meats on their menu and I will definitely have to be back to have dinner there soon. I was so excited about the Sausage Board that I forgot to mention the drinks were well made and delicious! Go stop by and say hi to Alejandro, have a few drinks and treat yourself to that Sausage Board!

Dinner

By nelsoniac |

Menu is meager for selection however, everything is outstanding. I found wine list did not have a large selection again, all the wines are fantastic. I kinda liked the fact the menu wasn’t extensive and was really pleased with every single item I ordered. Great for a date as the ambiance is amazing.

A must!

By Virginia V |

We come here every time we visit San Diego. They have a great happy hour, it's close to public transportation and all city highlights without having to withstand the crowds. The artwork is as great as its food. Staff has always been attentive and friendly, even when we show up with our toddler!

Truly unique

By Brian B |

We picked this restaurant based on the description online. It was as advertised and more. They offer interesting cuisine not available at your average eatery. Strongly recommended for the food ambiance and service.

Eclectic vibe with good food

By jfurukaw |

Décor was very unusual with an assortment of interesting paintings. Lighting was very dark. Food was exceptionally good. Had a pasta with boar meat which was extremely well seasoned, with fresh pasta. Excellent desserts as well. Great service

Exotic Meats

By SD_EventPlanner |

We had the sausage board that included rabbit, wild boar, elk as well as the antelope sliders, and deviled eggs- it was all excellent. Definitely look forward to coming back and trying the other items on the menu!

Great food and service

By Marilyn M |

We went in with a group of 8. We ordered several small plates and 2 mains. This allowed us to sample a wide variety, all of which was tasty. The antelope sliders were very good, also the lamb tacos. Nice selection of beers, and long cocktail list with interesting options.

Best in San Diego

By DesertDom |

Everything, and I do mean everything, about this restaurant is perfection. The atmosphere is funky old world with a cool vibe...Motown playing in the background and the walls adorned with eclectic art. The service is spot on; the servers know the menu and articulate it well. The menu is unique and exciting (kangaroo tartare...). The cocktails are well crafted and generous pours. This is by far the best restaurant I have dined in in San Diego. Don't pass it up.

Quirky

By David M |

New find in San Diego. Quirky restaurant from decor to menu. Good food. Great cocktails. Worth visiting.

The best restaurant in San Diego!

By Basil T |

I stayed in San Diego for a week and had a dinner at The Lion's Share three times... - I think it speaks for itself. The main distinctive feature: they don't do a routine stuff, in every case what they offer is based on something conventional but there is a twist making every dish and a drink really special. The interior is very special too, with lots of funny paintings. The place is always busy and if you did not book in advance you would have to wait in the bar, still having a cocktail and a snack - actually, you can have a full dinner in the bar. Out of three groups of friends I went there within that week not a single person had a negative experience, so it is a real find! The staff are really nice too, helpful and knowledgeable - I followed their recommendations on the choice of food and drinks and it worked extremely well for me and my friends.

Eclectic setting with interesting menu. Must visit!

By Aquaman95 |

This place is a true hidden gem just around the corner from all of the usual tourist and chain restaurants. Wonderful craft cocktail options and delicious food in a very unique space. The decor is hard to describe but "mythological characters with a carnivore's bent" might best describe much of the artwork. The food is spectacular. We started with the deviled eggs followed by the sausage board (the bison chorizo is magnificent) and then moved on to camel tacos and elk loin. Somehow, camel makes a perfect taco filling, and the rich and earthy elk loin was cooked perfectly medium rare. Don't miss this place. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Cool hip downtown joint with greeaattt food and service ! ! !

By tammy p |

Way cool environment, great bartenders and staff, and the best deviled egg appetizer one can find. I mean where are you goona find antelope, wild boar, and venison on the same menu. Used to have kangaroo too. The lighting is a cool compendium of interesting fixtures. Clean restrooms and right downtown near the harbor. Seriously, try the deviled eggs ! Service like I wish it was everywhere.

Wedding Reception

By Donna M |

We had a private room and it was set up perfectly, service was excellent attentive but not intrusive. They were cooperative and helpful. Food was very good only comment would be because we were upstairs the mains arrived warm rather than hot.

Different things

By JimmyJackk |

Different style restaurant for sure. Lots of interesting artwork to see. Service was good. We did a few starters. The red deer sliders, boar tacos and the pig ears. All were very good.

Favorite Place!

By Jennifer B |

My friend and I were visiting San Diego and we happened to be walking back to our hotel when I noticed a sign for The Lion's Share and decided to go in. The ambiance is classy yet laid back with a mix of random eclectic art, food and drinks. We already ate but couldn't help ordering the House Popcorn made with truffle oil and parmesan and the amazing Bread Pudding with lavender and blueberry sauce..mmm. The bartenders were great. We started with a few tasty beers but if you enjoy Bourbon you have to try the Hip Hops Diggity cocktail which was seriously delicious!

Wonderful, Quirky, Exciting

By camyshepard |

Wanted something unique and different, and my sister found this place for my bachelorette dinner. It was fantastic!! The decor is so unique and fun (I love animals). Our waitress was amazing (I really wish I remember her name :( ) She surprised us with a fun shot and rescued us from a bachelor-party-goer trying to interrupt our dinner. Thank you!!!!!! She was attentive and friendly. Food was great- I loved the variety of options- The Poutine, mushroom soup, boar bolognaise, and Rabbit Hand Pie were favorites. We were excited about the pork belly but none of us liked the sauce... Really really good craft cocktails. Very reasonable price for all the fun and deliciousness!!

Walked right by it...

By John H |

We walked right by this restaurant a couple times - didn't even consider it. We were staying nearby at the Hyatt and as I recall the street seemed a bit dark and the restaurant entrance was non remarkable. I searched for restaurants near me one evening and Lion Share show up - it had good reviews and it menu was very interesting. To make a long story short, we went and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. The next night was our last in the area and fortunately they had a reservation available, not at our preferred time but heck, we wanted more. It is on our list for repeat when in the area.

Great food, great service and cool atmosphere !!

By Tom Baker |

This is a very trendy restaurant but we were still given very individual service. Service is prompt, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. It has a nice speakeasy type feel to the restaurant with the lights toned down and a small candle flickering at every table.

A great find!

By Jaydub99 |

A very cool little bar/restaurant. Great service with an outstanding selection of local beers and a menu of items made with imagination and flair that you will not find in many other places in San Diego. The décor was eclectic and interesting and really added to the ambiance. It’s not large, but well located and really worth checking out if you are in the area.

Quirky atmosphere and delicious food

By diannesthesia |

The exterior of this restaurant is almost miss-able if you're walking down the street and not paying attention, but once inside you'll be glad you found the door. A darker, grown-up Wonderland-esque aesthetic is complemented by thoughtful food and drink combinations in an intimate atmosphere that isn't crowded or campy.

My first restaurant review because this place is THAT GOOD

By Kyla B |

I’ve only ever reviewed hotel, but this place was so amazing I couldn’t NOT write a review. Went here for dinner with my boyfriend during our weekend getaway to San Diego. Did a lot of research before we left to try and find the best restaurant options- wound up booking this for Friday night and Cloak & Petal on Saturday. Even though Cloak & Petal was fantastic, I wish I’d switched those bookings because our experience at Lions Share was so incredible, Saturday nights dinner paled in comparison. I eat at a lot of upscale/highly rated/popular restaurants (though i don’t consider myself a foodie - hence my lack of restaurant reviews) and this one stood out in a big way. First, the eclectic decor is so well done: a giant stuffed peacock with its feathers splayed out on a wall, huge bizarre paintings (thinking hummingbirds wearing glasses and polar bears in suits) all over the place, and mismatched chandeliers throughout. The food is ahhhhhmazing. It was one of those places where me and boyfriend spent half the time talking enthusiastically about what we were eating. We ordered the sausage board, deviled eggs, rabbit pie and the coffee rubbed elk entree. The elk was UNREAL DELICIOUS, as were the blue cheese yams it was served with. We appreciated that they split the elk entree for us too. And then there are the cocktails, which are just BEYOND. I’ve had craft cocktails at some of the best bars throughout LA, New York, SF, etc., and these were absolute STAND OUTS. (I’m really using a lot of caps in this review, but I’m trying to convey my enthusiasm here so bare with me ok??) I had three different tequila cocktails (their menu is organized by type of alcohol),and all were delicious, but the standout drink was our liquid dessert: a whiskey-based cocktail that was infused with peanuts and had a little trio of marshmallows that our waitress toasted at our table with a mini blowtorch (she used this same blowtorch to brûlée the top of another, tequila based dessert cocktail we ordered - also incredible). Speaking of our waitress, she was super cool and took a small shot of tequila with us halfway through the meal. It wasn’t cheesy - it was a really nice gesture with some very good tequila, no chaser needed. Apparently they offer these “onesies” to customers occasionally just as a friendly gesture, and it was nicely done. The other customers were as varied as the decor - there were groups of girls and groups of guys, multiple dates, some older people and some younger. Everyone was having a good time-the vibe was really fun and upbeat. So here it is, my first restaurant review...hopefully it’s enough to convince you to get to The Lions Share next time you’re in SD. It remains the highlight of our weekend!!

Great Coffee and Acai Bowls

By Claire B |

Great coffee house and Acai bowls. We went here every morning for coffee and acai bowls. They were delicious. The coffee choices were fantastic. We loved this place.

this is as good as it gets

By Lynnbrownstone |

Wow. This place is a great find with great food. The ambiance is fun. Keep in mind that the music can get a bit loud if you're looking for a place to have serious conversations.

Share the LION’s SHARE with a friend - it’s splendid

By Wo G |

So.... try out what describes itself as a place that serves ‘eclectic’ meats (and more). Ok- I was going to give the good eatery a 4.5 or4.0 as they DO NOT (NOT!) SERVE ESPRESSO OR COFFEE! What? And I don’t care really if the owner likes coffee or not (“the bait has to be appealing to the fish and not the fisherman- and we are the eating public?)... now with this behind... Food was excellent to outstanding: (1) Duck Breast was superbly done and well coordinated (2) the Rabit Roulade with Spätzle a bit on the dry side; taste well balanced (3) Dessert - truly terrific for the orange cake and the chocolate toffee-bacon flavored dish (4) yup- a place like this with such good food not (NOT!) to have Espresso is doubly disappointing... wine selection and drinks: nice All in all deserves 4.5 Atmosphere is a cool/hip place Service: hostess great; Maria our server was and deserves a 5/5 Summary: Worth a sincere try. If I see they have espresso, I will return

Most Interesting place In SD

By JesseandSean |

We stumbled on this place while searching for the perfect Rehearsal dinner spot and absolutely fell in love!! Its quirky and unique and the food and drink are to die for. Seriously we went back to "test" our menu several times before our actual event because the service and food is just so darn good! They helped us throw an amazing party! For a really reasonable price and our guest all raved about the food and service! Highly Recommend for HH or dinner or just drinks!!

Really cool place with exotic food!

By watson4117 |

Great place! Really exotic menu! Nothing else like it in San Diego! Portions were nice size and very tasty. Great cocktails as well!

Amazing food!

By Novers |

This place is amazing! Great atmosphere, delicious food, and great service. We got a bunch of appetizers to share and we were glad we did. The Brussels sprouts and charcuterie board were amazing. We also had the oysters, fried green tomatoes and the sliders. You must try this place!

Great Flavor, In Food and Vibe

By JFK |

I really enjoy this restaurant. It has a great decor and feeling. The hand crafted cocktails match the subdued vibe. The flavors of the food are equally great. Some standard america fare and a couple wild game options. It is defiantly not for the "meat and potatoes" type but if you like a little adventure this will be a good place to try something new. If you are in a group the person that is not sure about "new" food will also be able to find something good. I suggest making a reservation even on week days. The restaurant is close to the convention center and hotels and if you try to go on a big convention night you might be out of luck. Try to get seated away from the door. If the wind is blowing it can be a little annoying going in and out.

Happy accident

By FloridaLily |

It was pouring on my one day in San Diego before a cruise and I really did not want to resort to a hotel restaurant or a chain that I have been to back home, so I checked trip advisor and found this place that was a block from my hotel. I walked in and the place was packed but the hostess said that she could actually get me a table. I was solo so I asked if I could eat at the bar. She said that was self seating but if I can't find a stool to come back, luckily there was one spot available. And someone sitting next to me told me it was happy hour as I just started to peruse the menu. This is not some tap beer, house wine and well drinks happy hour, they have a nice selection of cocktails for happy hour too. Drinks and food are good. Food-wise they have some interesting options with game like antelope, rabbit and boar, so maybe this isn't where I'd send my vegan friends but if you like game or just want to try something different this place is it. Decor compliments the menu with dark walls, heads above the bar and interesting paintings (animal infused riffs on old master works) on the walls. Staff is friendly and helpful. Basically this place was a check on all the boxes.

Great restaurant and neighborhood bar

By Brion B |

I went to the Lion's Share separately for dinner and to enjoy the bar. The food was quite unique and very tasty. I especially liked the antelope sliders! In my opinion, it is a bit overpriced, but what can you expect for such specialty cuisine. I'd definitely go back for the food and ambience.

Cozy & welcoming!

By April333 |

We really enjoyed happy hour sitting at their quaint bar. It was a great place for rejuvenating ourselves after a full day in Coronado. The rabbit sausage and boar pouttine were delicious. So glad we went!

Fantastic!

By MTLtravelerRD |

Recommendation from our hotel concierge; great rec! It was a little hard to find not knowing the area, but worth it. This restaurant is fantastic. We had the option of the Restaurant Week menu, and took full advantage. Best salmon ever, and you have to try their corn coconut chile soup; sounds weird, but it is amazing. They have so many interesting menu options, including some wild/game meats. Great cocktails and desserts, too. Excellent service and very cool atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Don't miss happy hour

By mrm53538 |

A very short walk from the Hyatt . We'll worth it. We went for happy hour, had a few drinks and snacks and did not need dinner..

Not your Normal Menu!!!

By Claire B |

Visit this place if you want to try something different. Might not be the best fit for a vegetarian or a vegan, but the different types of menu options make this place what it is! Unique. Fancy Drinks & Fancy Food make it well worth the experience!!

Amazing evening!

By mikalarazon |

It's not often you find a restaurant that brings you excitement, a great visual experience, truly delightful food and wonderful staff. My visit at The Lion's Share, however, had all of this. Excitement in just reading the menu and try to choose between all the innovative dishes. The visual experience was in the nice interior as well as keeping on looking in the menu after ordering to read the short stories, quotes and cool pictures. And also in how they put the food on the plates. After having a hard time choosing we ended up trying some stuf around. We had the Antelope Sliders, Wild boar Bolognese, Boar sausage poutine, Rabbit hand Pie and Chicken fried Quail that came on a waffle. Everything was great and there is not one of the dishes I would'nt recommend. But if I have to pick two that stood out it's the Rabbit Pie and the Boar Bolognese. Sadly, I live in another continent so this was probably my only visit ever at this place. Otherwise im sure I would have been a frequent visitor of this place. For you guys that have the chance - as a San Diego resident or if you're just passing by - you'll have to try this! I would be super surprised if you would be disappointed!

Cool eats with atmosphere

By wallybaloo |

Easy to walk right by this place as it is somewhat dark and forbidding from the outside. We were staying at Embassy Suites and walked the neighborhood looking for food and drink. We got there for happy hour, and it was great. Great selection of bar food and good drinks. Wait staff was just great. Highly recommend.

Delicious combinations and fantastic food

By Nancy |

TLS was recommended by a friend back home in Australia and we decided to make it our final dinner in San Diego after a five night stay and it was wonderful. The menu can be a little confronting for some, with the inclusion of antelope, rabbit, wild boar, and elk, but it was great to try something new and was absolutely delicious! If you're in a group, opt for a wide range of dishes. We did our best but, as there were only two of us, we shared an entree and a dessert and got a main each but could have easily selected several more dishes.

Very artistic, lively bar

By Surfdog74 |

This bar has so much character, it's actually quite surprising when you enter. The ambiance is amazing and the crafted cocktails are top notch. If you don't see something you'd like on the menu, the bartender can whip up on to match your heart's delight. This is a recommended stop in SD if you like cool bars like nothing you'll find elsewhere! Probably not for the veggie in your lift, but there are snacks options!

If you like unique meats!

By Joseph R |

Been here once before and selection of meats can vary but always tasty. Wide variety of cuts as well as animal.

Funky good!

By TB5of6 |

The stuffed peacock with its fanned out tail covering one wall of the restaurant as you enter hints at the experience to come. Venture further in and you find oddly themed paintings (be sure to check out the ceiling) that you can't help but look at repeatedly during your stay. Atmosphere? Check! You might think they're overcompensating. Then you check out the menu; at only two pages the food selection is creative. I started with buffalo tartare (delicious) followed by grilled halibut resting on corn puree with chorizo vinagrette (very good). The chocolate pudding with carmel/bacon and bourbon infused whipped cream nearly killed me. Food? check! My waitress, Jenna, was sweet and helpful without being intrusive. She talked me through the extensive drink menu (which goes on for pages, no less creative than the food). Service? Check! I had a great experience even though I happened to be alone. I will return the next time I'm in town and share it with somebody.

Poor service, unremarkable food

By snoogle |

The best thing about this place is the cocktails, they are really good and I loved the dark speakeasy vibe of the place. The food was neither good nor bad, it seemed like they were trying too hard and just not hitting the mark most of the time. And unfortunately our waitress was useless. Every time we we're in the middle of an intimate part of the conversation there she was, leaning over us to fill the 3/4 full water glasses or interrupt us with some inane question. But when we needed to order another drink? Nowhere to be found. When we had finished our food and drinks and had been waiting 20 mins to pay our tab? Nowhere to be found.

Best classic Tavern!

By CaptainGordon |

I dig this swank joint. It's kinda hidden from the main flow of tourist and drunken idiots. It's a classy joint without being high-brow; good dark wood, nice furnishings, awesome-fun-intriguing art work throughout the tavern, edgy music playing in the background, fantastic drinks made well, and a stellar tavern type of menu. Service is the best and the vibe here is something out of a foggy London novel. (Great spot both early afternoon and late, late night)

Stellar bartenders!

By bilmiami |

This very interesting bar was recommended by the bartender at our hotel, as we were looking for a particular liqueur. They didn't have it, but we stayed for a classic absinthe. They have the whole set up, which is kind of a show. We didn't take pictures of the flaming sugar cubes but everybody around us did! We then moved on to wine and food, still at the bar. The guys were great and fun to watch. They clearly love what they do. If you are nearby, stop in for a drink. Or two.....

Very good

Nice cocktail spot

By JSG320 |

Visited The Lion's Share for a couple drinks before dinner. The atmosphere is great. Very low lit with great decor. The bartender was quick to ask what I needed and made a couple great drinks for me. I didn't get to try the food but everything read very well. I will have to stop here again my next trip to San Diego.

Superb food and service

By Mark C |

This was one of our two favourite restaurants on a 4 week trip through the US. Granted, outside the major cities the competition is rarely stiff, but the food here really was good. We had a burrata starter, hangar steak and wild boar pasta dishes for mains, accompanied by some wine and good beer. Everything was excellent. For British people everything in the US is expensive at the moment, but this was one example where I really felt it was worth every penny, even in comparison to what we'd pay without the exchange rate handicap. Must be really good value for those living locally!

Great little spot

By cburnsesq |

You can't pass up on the deviled eggs! Happy hour prices and selection are a pretty good deal as well. An eclectic place known for differing meat types like bison, etc. Definitely a good spot.

Nice, close find....

By bagelsnob |

Not wanting to go too far after checking in to our hotel, jet lagged and hungry this place took care of basic needs: food and drink. Hipster lounge with a British/Irish pub atmosphere. Drink menu is extensive with more whiskey options than I knew existed. Too tired to take on a meal, I had fries and my friend had a burger which looked huge and he said was good. A great place to go if you want to do some adventurous drinking!

Very good

By Evan J |

Really really good food right near the beach/touristy area in San Diego. Went to get a quick dinner and really loved everything. The plate of different sausages was really unique. Definitely worth giving it a try if you're in town.

Eclectic Dinner options

By Jessica H |

I had the Wild Boar Carbonara and my fiancé had the Grilled Hanger Steak. The pasta had a perfect texture and the sauce was a great consistency of creamy/peppery/cheesy with the excellence of wild boar pancetta. The hanger steak was melt in my mouth good!!! Cooked to perfection!!!

Nice food with creative cocktails

By sillygit |

We had a lovely meal during restaurant week. I had the steak and my husband had salmon--both were very good. Their cocktail menu had many choices of really interesting drinks--the ones we chose were delicious. The service was very attentive. Was a funky restaurant with a cosy dark wood interior. Would definitely go back.

A Great Neighbourhood Hangout

By j p |

Wow, a cozy welcoming fun ambiance with well prepared, interesting food and well crafted cocktails. A quick walk from the Hyatt for the best food in the Seaport neighbourhood. The wild boar carbonara was perfection. The devilled eggs were divine and the salads superb. The antelope sliders should not be missed and the sausage board was a carnivore's dream. All the staff are interesting, engaging and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Every neighbourhood should have a place like this.

Top rated for a good reason!

By pakaja2018 |

Yummy 😋. Hubby got elk, son got chicken fried quail and I got the steak. They were all fantastic. Great atmosphere. Bar looked dark and funky. Didn’t go in, wish I had! Why are you reading this... you should already be heading to The Lions Share!!!

Loved it!!

By BondGrrl |

We went here for my husband's birthday. Pro tip: if you have a concierge as part if your credit card, use then - we couldn't get a rezzo thru Open table but she got us exactly what we wanted. Small steampunk oub atmosphere. In my view best table was ours - small 2top closest to the bar. You can watch them mix drinks - amazing bartenders! I had to get up once as I was watching her make a 'concoction' with eyedroppers of flavors to find out what she was doing! :) We had the escargot/bone marrow, bison tartare, crispy frogs legs, antelope sliders (super delish), a mix-up and we didn't get the camel tacos, but that's ok we had the bread pudding instead. It had sort of a 'salzburger knockerl' top on it - very different. Had to have the absinthe cos they have the whole setup - they added a bit too much ice to the top, but we were able to fix it by pouring our water glasses in. Great staff. Yes, it was loud but hey it was a Saturday night, and we could hear one another.

Super fun

By Wep25 |

Stopped in for happy hour. Super friendly staff, fun pictures and concept. Drinks and food well above average. This is a great place to put you in a good mood.

Great food at very reasonable prices

By kgv2828 |

We had an early dinner here and it was great. We took advantage of the early bird specials that included a glass of beer with our orders. We started with a corn soup that was delicious with several levels of flavor. I followed that with a hamburger that was moist and juicy and rates as one of the best burgers I have had in a while. The french fries were also nice and crispy and not oily. And I got to wash all of this down with a free beer. The ambiance was really good with outdoor seating with good service. The location is also very convenient particularly if you are staying at one of the many local hotels in the area, It is walking distance from the boardwalk in downtown San Diego. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and it was very reasonably priced. The location was great, service very good and nice ambiance. Definitely worth a visit

interesting food - great happy hour

By Crystal248 |

We happened to arrive during happy hour (our bodies hadn't adjusted to local time yet so we were ready for dinner). The apps on the happy hour were great - deviled eggs offered a variety to things to try for a very reasonable price. The burgers were also good. There are more adventurous items for those wanting to try new meats.

Outstanding service, excellent food

By Mark W |

Went for a dinner around 8:20p. We were in town for a conference staying a downtown hotel. We were wandering the boardwalk, got hungry and so were walk ins, without a reservation. We had read the reviews on Trip Advisor, so were hopeful. The hostess said there was a thirty minute wait, but we could wait in the bar. Or even eat in the bar.. So my wife went to Open Table and booked a reservation for 10 minutes after our arrival. The hostess had to wait for a table to open up, which occurred after about 20 minutes. She was very helpful, keeping us updated on the status of our table. In the meantime, two waiters walked by and ask us if we wanted anything to eat or drink. One ever brought us water. That one turned out to be Brandon, who was our waiter. He was fantastic. Capable, personable, knowledgeable. We split a burger, carrots and the corn coconut chile soup. The soup was just wonderful. Carrots didn't have much flavor (maybe due to us having the soup first). Burger was very good. Atmosphere was cool. Highly recommend.

Pleasant surprise ....

By Azpabarb |

Creative meat lovers paradise for those wanting a little adventure. If you like game with a flare this is your place. Great fresh sausage of Rabbit, Boar and Bison with pickled veggies and mustard was great. Poutine was delicious... The drinks, service and atmosphere were great. Creative drinks and dishes. Fun enjoyable surprise. If you are vegan this is not your place :). Will be back ...

Great choices for adventurous meat eaters

By W2008ZLannat |

Lots of interesting choices such as camel chorizo tacos (delicious) or slightly more traditional such as duck confit with white beans. Good cocktails, too. And our waitress gave very helpful advice when we were trying to choose between a couple of drinks and entrees. A fun place,

Delicious!

Stopped by while in San Diego for a conference. I thoroughly enjoyed their take on deviled eggs, but the highlight was their extensive drink menu. Everything I had was delicious and their bartender was super informative and extremely talented. I highly recommend dropping in during their happy hour. It was fantastic!

Very good!

By DesertDom |

This was my favorite restaurant in SD when I lived here. I happily spent a small fortune dining there on the regular. The vibe is hip without pretensions, good music, fun decor (observe the acrylics closely), great service and food at a perfect location. After 3 years away I decided to try it again. The service was top notch, the vibe was still great and the food fantastic. My blackened fish was a tad salty, but I still cleaned my plate! The craft cocktails....yummy. If you are an unapologetic carnivore such as myself...GO! The antelope sliders are amazing and the whole quail incredible.

A great place for adventurous foodies

By Luv2BeGrandma |

I visited San Diego in May and had dinner at The Lion's Share. I had the foie gras and pork belly. I have never eaten foie gras, so I didn't know what to expect. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was prepared with strawberry, pistachio, basil and brioche. It was tender, had a little sweetness from the strawberry and crunch from the pistachio. I really like how the pork belly itself was prepared, but didn't care too much for the poblano-tomato broth it was in. To me it was thick like a stew. My co-worker ordered the chicken fried quail and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I'm ever back in the area I will definitely visit again. They have so many unusual things on the menu - boar, rabbit, antelope, buffalo - I would like to try them all! The prices are a little high for the size portions, but well worth the cost.

A genuine article in a morass of mediocrity

By Robert P |

Recent week in SD for a meeting, found this on C***H****, needed a break from overpriced and under delivered Gaslamp restaurants (of which I am sure there are some great ones, but hard to separate the wheat from the chaff). A great neighborhood bar with very good food, wonderful devoted patrons, friendly and helpful staff. I don't do craft cocktails (beer and bourbon guy) but they seemed committed to their profession. Beer and bourbon reccs were spot on. When you tire of the chains, or food you can prepare at home with cheaper drinks, go to this neighborhood gem.

Project kickoff dinner

The cocktail menu alone is worth the visit to this restaurant. The range and creativity of the menu is outstanding. The atmosphere is intimate and also has a range from a bar feel to a private dining room feel.

Nice late night "speak easy"

By M4RK_H |

Nice dimly lit bar that doesn't shout about itself from the street, so may be tricky to find. Late night nibbles menu from 11-1 and a fine choice of strong craft/Belgian beers to enjoy. Very good service with attentive staff, funky decor and low lighting for a good ambience.

Unique setting .. excellent food !

By MarianJ-2abr |

Loved it ! ... couldnt stop taking photos of the place. Great ambience .... eclectic decor. Food is superb ! ... Delicious .. made me feel like eating at home. Dont miss it when in San Diego. Very nice location next to Seaport Village.

Cool, unique, tasty!

Just down from Portland to what I think of as our sister city south of Southern California (i.e NOT So Cal) and was treated to an Excellent meal at The Lion's Share. We're staying at the Grand Hyatt for a conference and the touristy restaurants nearby made it look like the selections would be slim pickings. The Cheesecake Factory, seriously? Is that allowed per City Ordinances??? Anyway, the reviews for The Lion's Share were pretty good and the food seemed unique. My meal was perfect. I had the Federal Buffalo Stamp cocktail to start - whiskey, ginger, lemon... delightful. My starter was the caramelized cauliflower, which was perfect, and I got to share my dinner guest's deviled eggs, which were as unique as they were good, and had the grilled hanger steak with a great bordelaise sauce for the main course - the meat was perfect and perfectly cooked. Dessert was over the top - can't remember what it was called, but it was a chocolate pudding thing that was to die for; rich, creamy, exotic flavor... wow. We didn't have reservations but got a place at the bar and the barkeeps were great waiters for our meal. I love San Diego exactly for this kind of great treat. P.S. forgot to mention that I have a severe gluten allergy and my meal was GF all the way!

You have found that "something different" place!

By trvvlngkim |

WARNING - not for vegetarians! Eclectic meat-lover's decor, I can now say I have eaten boar, lamb, antelope, and bone marrow butter in one sitting. I suggest sharing (meals and apps) as most dishes are very heavy. For apps: White gravy boar sausage poutine was great. I didn't really see what people were raving about with the antelope sliders, just seemed very salty burgers to me. Lamb Tacos were awesome. For dinner we tried the Hangar Steak and the Boar Bolognese - HIGHLY recommend both!! But really I came because of the illustrations in the menu.

Monday night special

By TomGillian |

Arrived Monday eveing discovered wine was half price was recommended a very expensive red which was only the price of a house wine with the special 50% off which was a superb recommendation to go with our meal.the burger with bison bacon and fries with truffle and Parmesan was to die for all for $20 My wife had the halibut which was equally impressive .a very hip place with a limited menu but I guess you a better doing a few thing well than a lot of thing mediocre

Fantastic good!

By GabyMaaswinkel |

Found this place via Tripadvisor because of the high ranking and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious (I had the salmon and my husband ordered the elk) and the proposed beverages was really nice as well. The place looks pretty cool as well. Would recommend!

I was utterly impressed with the food!, IT is a small place, I assume a small kitchen, but the dishes were splendid. We asked across the board, a amberjack tiradito, venison carpaccio and a standard burger passing through a hangers steak. All very tasty. Ooh, forgot the lengua tacos (very mexican and flavorful). The music was great, the bar staff was super friendly and engaging, also very knowledgeable and into exotic drinks. I must say that the front staff seems overstressed and perhaps overwhelmed, the hostess was short and not nice so was another one of her fellow workers.

Great cocktails!

By hfritzinger |

My husband and I booked a table at The Lion's Share on OpenTable during a recent stay in San Diego. We were drawn in by previous diners' rave reviews, as well as the extensive cocktail menu and the selection of meats on the menu. The exotic meats can be found more on the appetizer side of the menu rather than the main, but that makes them no less delicious. The selection of main entrees is quite small (only a handful) but we enjoyed the dishes we had. The cocktails were the real stars of The Lion's Share and we enjoyed sampling all they had to offer. The meal and cocktails were decently priced and the art adorning the walls was pretty awesome - walk around and check it out! Our waiter was very friendly, if a little hipster. Overall we would recommend checking out The Lion's Share!

Unique

By CaribbeanAddict09 |

Great food and service! Visited on both recent trips to town. Unique choices, especially if you are a fan of different meats.

Love the inside!!

By lovept |

Wow what a fun little place to have a drink or eat. Service was wonderful, food a delight and very exotic and atmosphere nothing like it. It so fun. All the paintings on the wall, stuffed animals and different chandeliers. So cool. Food was excellent, we had the deviled eggs (loved the presentation), liver pate and taco's that were all quite tasty. The menu does have more game like meats on it as well. The drinks were strong (so I was told) and tasty. Awesome little place.

Quirky restaurant

Walk in from an ordinary street into a curious place. Good food. Good drinks. Cool staff. Worth stepping inside.

Food was not worth the effort

By LATraveller_12 |

We understand that COVID made many restaurants to reshape their dining area, unfortunately Lion's Share spent too little to make this new area a pleasant one. It was cold outside and the wind made it even colder but the restaurant did not have enough of the much needed heaters. When you are eating in these conditions, the only desire is to finish quick and leave. The food was not worth the torture, the bone marrow was not cooked enough, I could still feel the uncooked fat in my mouth for the rest of the evening, the pig ears were soaked in burnt oil and covered in salt, the soup was served in a very shallow plate (the quantity was sooo little and it got cold so quickly!), the assorted mix of sausages were all on the sweet side and the boar tacos made my wife crying with disgust instantly at the first bite. The burger was good though! The service was also good, the girls tried to make us happy bringing us whatever we needed. They even wrote off the pig ears! Fair! They are the ones getting the extra star! But for nothing in the world we will return here, unless they announce a new chef and management!

Good vibes!

By Darren H |

Nice little restaurant tucked away by the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Good food and half-off a bottle of wine on Mondays! Sadly, the place doesn't serve coffee, tea or iced tea, so if you are looking to get a caffeine fix, you are probably going to have to go to Starbucks!

Really interesting food, great people and vibe!

By tqmman2002 |

Seemed to be a popular spot, we stumbled upon this place while looking around at off the trail places and this fit the bill. Inside is darker but creates a good atmosphere. My dining companion and I were kinda boring in that we drank alot but had cheeseburgers since we were already stuffed from a late lunch. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and we would have liked to try the antelope but maybe next time when in town on business.

Interesting

By nico84ro |

It feels like you stepped into a Shakespearean play from decor to menu and ambiance. The food was really good and drinks as well.

Unique atmosphere

By Solsbabe |

I was with a group of about 30 in San Diego on business. We reserved the upstairs section of this place for dinner. It looks like it used to be an apartment above the actual restaurant. There's a bathroom, with an actual bathtub/shower, a full kitchen, a record player with vinyl albums for playing your own music, a couple of full size arcade games that you can play for free, and the most eclectic decor you can imagine. There were two large wood banquets tables, that each sat about 14 comfortably, plus a smaller table for 6. The wait staff was very attentive, and go back and forth between upstairs and downstairs to provide your meals and drinks. We did order off a pre-selected menu, so I don't know how diverse the selections actually are. The food was pretty good, I'd rate 3.5 out of 5 stars alone. This place would provide an excellent venue for an intimate wedding reception, or small party.

Drinks!

Get a whiskey sour. Believe me you will love it. Great ambiance, friendly people and bartenders. Don't miss out!!

Cozy, edgy and delicious

By Patrick H |

My wife and I stopped in for dinner. Not a big place, dark and cozy. Our waitress was a little edgy, in a good way. The decor is very entertaining and cool. The wine and mixed drink was very good and we tried three small plates and all were extremely good. If I am in S.D. again I will go back for sure.

Excellent food

By Steffanie |

Found this place on Open Table. My husband loves off the wall places with a wide array of food selections. So for his birthday I decided that this might be the perfect place. We are staying at the Embassy Suites so we just had to walk literally behind the hotel and the restaurant is located right there. Was seated immediately and we instantly noticed (my only bad comment about this place) that there was no air flow of any kind in the front room we were seated in. It was so bad I kept the menu after I ordered so that I could continue fanning myself which is sad because this place has so many interesting decor on the walls, I wanted to take a look around. My husband and I ordered drinks which were delicious with hilarious names. ( 'Monks Gone Wild' was one of them). For appetizers we ordered the meat and cheese board which was delicious. Ate it so fast we forgot to take the picture. For entrées I ordered the 'Our Burger' (pictured) and my husband ordered the 'Grilled Hanger Steak' (also pictured), which were perfect. Came out quickly and just as we ordered. All in all, the place had excellent food and good customer service. Yes, this place is a bit pricey so you think that they could afford to turn on the air, however, the food was fresh and the drinks were awesome. Would go back, but to order my food to go.

Found out about The Lion's Share on TA...glad I did! Great food, good service, a very unique menu (lots of game and fantastic truffle fries!) and outstanding drinks!

Animal/Game themed restaurant with interesting menu

By Hoyle L |

Located near Manchester Hyatt San Diego and the Convention Center, we were attracted by the wild game-oriented menu. The restaurant has an animal theme, where humans and game animals are in various states of friendly and adversary relationships as depicted by the numerous paintings and décor. Being a lion’s den, the furniture could have been a bit more plush than the metal chairs without cushion. Having reservation, we were promptly seated by an attentive hostess. They have interesting menu – deviled eggs, foie gras, bison tartare, antelope sliders, wild boar Bolognese, elk loin steak, etc. Per review recommendations, wife and I shared the deviled eggs, fois gras, antelope sliders, pork belly and sliced raw fish, all small dishes. The fois gras and antelope sliders were outstanding. The sliced raw fish was excellent, the pork belly and deviled eggs were good.. I also tried their cucumber gimlet, which had a rather unique (pleasant) taste. Overall, an interesting restaurant worth a visit if you like wild game-oriented menu and setting.

Great & Unique Food & Drink

By ETKGD |

If you like martini's/etc you have to try the "Cucumber Gimlet", it is just fantastic but all drinks are good. All the food is unique but good and the quail, burgers, sausage board are all worth trying. We prefer to sit in the little entry area as it is very light, bright, casual and you can people watch. Prices are easy and the service is really good. Right next to the Trolley stop (Seaport Village) so easy to get to.

Great Experience!

By Knabebug |

What a faboo place. We loved the ambiance, the service, the food, and the clientele. The next table chatted us up, and by the end of the meal we had passed many plates back and forth. There is a speakeasy atmosphere and you can get lovely game. From Bison Tartare to Elk steak. And it's walking distance from Marriott and Hyatt.

A Whimsical Escape

By travelerstomaine |

A quick walk from Seaport Village and close to the Gaslamp district, the Lion's Share is a step out of the San Diego sun and into the shade and a whimsical and delightful romp through a world of magical cocktails, tasty and fun wild game preparations, and smile-enhancing service. You'll be happy and satisfied you turned in here.

Fantastic. Thoroughly Enjoyable!

By Wineaux FromAlexandria |

Visited The Lion's Share while on vacation in San Diego. Fantastic restaurant. Some unique items on the menu but there are also plenty conventional choices. Our selections were fantastic. The staff are great. The wine list is OK; the restaurant specializes in creative cocktails. It's small, so there are only a few tables.

Dark, convivial gastropub

By Ben F |

That this place is hiding in plain sight in one of the most antiseptic, corporate corners of the city is utterly bizarre, but I'm very pleased it's there. Dark, bustling, convivial gastropub scene with excellent food and drink. Absolutely top-notch cocktail craft, with a nice balance of unusual, trailblazing drinks and well-made old favorites. The playbook for edibles appears to be comfort food with a few modern twists (e.g. deviled eggs with fun toppings like quail confit or truffled prosciutto). Nice beer and wine selection as well. Super friendly, attentive service. Pretty much nothing not to like.

Excellent Service, Perfect Cocktails, Carnivor's Tapa Paradise

By buenvino |

Conveniently located near the hotels around Seaport Village, The Lion’s Share was a real find for us. At first it seemed very dark inside, almost cave like, but we discerned the tables and lots of surrealist paintings on the walls depicting animal-humans. We snagged two seats at the splendid little bar sided by Perspex Covid screens, as were the other bar places. Our server, Simon, made delightful cocktails and looked after us very well. We started with beers, Societe Apprentice, and finished with cocktails - mine a very potent affair called Forward Moonwalk with Mexcal, Agave, Lime, Pink Peppercorn infused Aperol and Pineapple. My wife had a good French 75 made with quality sparkling white. We perused the unusual menu which included exotic meats such as wild boar, bison, duck and venison, We shared a nice aperitif of Foie canapés. We then opted for a sizzling dish of three large sausages: rabbit, buffalo and wild boar all served with pickles, sauce and delicious dark bread. The Exotic Sausage Board is just that! This is a charming, friendly, quirky little restaurant with great bar service and a lot of unusual meats on offer. You can even have Camel Pastrami in your hamburger! Happy Hour 4-6pm.

Great food and drinks, nice atmosphere

By daikonite |

The drinks and food here are delicious. The cocktails were a hit with both people who like the taste of alcohol and those who normally don't. The boar pasta was tasty, but a little more heavily salted. I think if you want a slightly lighter dish flavor-wise, I'd recommend the rabbit pie which was delicious. The decor and ambiance are also really cute and creative. It feels trendy without being pretentious. I especially liked the stories sprinkled throughout the menu. I enjoyed the place with friends, but I think it'd also work as a date spot. The volume in the restaurant is not library quiet, but you can definitely have a good conversation at the table without having to shout "what" at each other. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the San Diego area.

Great food and drinks

By Melanie A |

Tried to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night and could only get 4:30 or 9:30. Stopped by around 5:00 and got a seat at the bar for 2. Had drinks and apps and it was amazing. Ray, the bartender was great, very attentive and made great old fashioneds. Had the charcuterie board off the happy hour menu, cheese board and brussel sprout appetizer. So different and delicious. We loved the atmosphere and the food and drinks. Would come here again when in the area.

Tasty food and great service

By renatastei |

Do not hesitate to go there for dinner (or lunch), the food is really good (although for americans the portions could be small :-)), I absolutelly loved the coctail I ordered (No esposa) and the service was fantastic! I would highly recommend this place in heart of San Diego!

Too loud for comfort

By cristinecrom |

We made a date to meet friends here for an early dinner. The food was interesting (I like game so found the menu terrific), the serving sizes reasonable (not too large or too small), and the prices appropriate. However, we will never return because the music was way too loud - obnoxiously loud; we could hardly hear each other, and we were supposedly seated in one of the quieter locations. The hostess basically shrugged when we commented on the din. If you want to talk with your dinner companion(s), go elsewhere. Not worth shouting.

Eclectic food and great drinks

By Sheldon T |

Real great drinks, interesting dishes with great variety and creativity. Good flavours and excellent staff. I ordered a bunch of dishes, including the elk loin, rabbit hen pie, the mushroom trio, and cauliflower. Flavours were on point and not over seasoned, really allowing the ingredients to shine through. Eclectic mix of drinks and cocktails. Would definitely go again.

Creative and Delicious Food

We enjoyed eating at The Lion's Share, the menu and decor are eclectic and made us think of an English Pub/Hunting motif. We enjoyed our meals and would highly recommend eating here.

Wonderful Food and Cheapest Cocktails in Town During Happy Hour

By emgaila |

My husband and I ate at a few "nicer" restaurants than this one, but frankly, The Lion's Share was the best food we tried. We ordered the rabbit sausage, camel tacos, antelope sliders, and numerous cocktails, and everything we ordered was spot on. I was so impressed with the crafted cocktails, we came back during Happy Hour the next day because you can't find cocktails in San Diego for $6 this amazing. I recommend drinks like The Federal Stamp and they make a wonderful Old Fashioned. Not to mention, the interior is sort of pagan/Gothic/modern, so the atmosphere, both at the bar and at the front tables, is warm and perfect for kicking back and enjoying your dining companion. Have fond memories of this place, and if we ever return to San Diego, I'd certainly visit the Lion's Share again! Highly recommend.

Great food!

By Doug W |

The food was very good! We had the antelope sliders and the wild boar bolognese, and both were really tasty. The cocktails were also really well done, especially their take on an Old Fashion. The atmosphere is eclectic and the lighting is very low. A one of a kind restaurant for sure.

no shame in their GAME

By Damian C |

great atmosphere, smoky old look cool paintings and decor nice staff great drinks bison tartare - dijon, shallots, olives and Worcestershire-cured egg; a familiar twist on a classic, nice and savory but light rabbit hand pie - duck fast crust and carrot puree, like a great empanada/roti camel tacos - chili, fresco queso, crispy shallot; i've had camel before and I like it

If you are "hunting" for a unique experience, this is it.

By 642Victorious |

We were looking for something close to our hotel that has character. This was definitely the place! Be sure to get a reservation. We thought we were safe going in after nine, but it was booked until 11 pm! It's dark, cozy, has a cool vibe, and interesting artwork (see others pictures). The food was outstanding (escargot, wild boar, rabbit, buffalo). Our waitress was a little "out of it" but that made it a little more fun. She spilled a tray of drinks on the table next to us (better them than us) and almost caught their table on fire with some flaming cocktails!

Tasty place

By MHTruett |

Loki g for a meal that is a little more exotic? Want elk, boar, buffalo? The wild boar bacon burger is good. Don't forget the truffle fries.

A MUST!!

By Teri M |

You want to make reservations as it's a very small place but the atmosphere is a fun time! Good music & food, great drinks and staff is awesome! Has some unique dishes.

By far my FAVORITE place for drinks and snacks in San Diego!

By Daniel A |

Food 5 Drinks 5 Ambiance 5 Cool Factor 5 Wow. I almost don't want to write this review because my new secret happy place may get too busy. I love this restaurant/bar. I can't believe I have lived near here since they opened 6 months ago, and I never even knew about it. If you were to combine three top San Diego restaurants/bars..Cowboy Star, Cafe Chloe and Prohibition, you would get The Lion's Share! Seriously, they have taken the best of food, drinks (and craft cocktails), ambiance and created a special getaway, off the beaten path. FOOD: With food like Rabbit Pasta, Bison Rib eye, Wild Boar Ribs, Venison Burgers and many more unique choices, you will not leave hungry or disappointed! I finished every drop of food and sauce on my plate (I'm sure the chef sees this a lot). In fact, the sous chef is a former Cafe Chloe chef - which explains some of the French influence. DRINK: Great beers on draft, check. Great beers in bottles, check. Excellent craft cocktails, check. They have so many drinks to choose from, its amazing. They also have all the top alcohols you would ever want. AMBIANCE: Picture the dark feel of Prohibition Bar(in fact one of the bartenders works at Prohibition), with bartenders dressed in suspenders and ties (giving you that 1930's feel). The music is fairly loud, but you can still have a conversation. These guys also have the strangest pictures hanging on the walls you will ever see! You have to see them for yourself. LOCATION: If you are having a hard time finding this gem - it is just to the East of the Embassy Suites and behind Kansas City BBQ. SPECIALS: They have a great happy hour from 4-6pm each day.

Hidden Gem

Perfect ambiance and unique menu. Place is really one of a kind experience. Go to spot for HH with the meat and cheese boards !!
