Family outing, great bluegrass, stage and outdoor area are nicely covered with trees. Nice sound from the stage. Food is really good, also pricey a but worth it. Bar area is dark, eclectic, and great beer. A total hole in the wall screaming with biker character and welcoming staff.

best bar in south Austin

By Adrienne S |

This is by far my favorite bar in Austin! Laid back, great food and drinks, indoor and outdoor spaces. You cant go wrong with LD! Awesome bar staff and always a great vibe. They have music sometime and allow dogs and kids! if you haven't checked it out, go! Better yet, dont=) i rather it not get too popular!

Good Food and Good Service

By OWL78654 |

We arrived right at opening time. There were not a lot of people but ordering seemed to take forever. Everyone seemed to like their food. I got the home fries and wished I had gotten just french fries instead. A small cup of catsup came on the plate but was really not enough. There were no bottles on the tables. The brunch menu was available but some items that were ordered were not available on the brunch menu. Some sort of time restriction. Apparently weekends are different than weekdays. The Eggs Benedict got compliments. Lots of emphasis on the different kinds of beer that were available. I had a nonalcoholic drink which was a flavored sparkling water and was better than I expected. The burger was good. The food was slow in arriving. There is a nice outside seating area. Some customers brought their dogs.

Great Venue, Great Time

The Little Darlin hosted a charity event to raise money to benefit the Australian Wildfires. We arrived a little late, but the outdoor tables, seats and venue were great. Inside was a little crowded, but I was able to place orders easily and the bar staff was efficient. Fun time. I recommend.

casual with excellent food and nice local beer selection

Great spot in South Austin. nice outdoor space. did not see anyone perform but the stage is nicely elevated and looks as if it offers good viewing. plenty of large picnic tables available to seat a large group. beer was cold and the food was excellent. this was real food too. not bar food. Had the baby lettuce salad and it was delicious. Others in our group had burgers and Chicken sandwiches. everyone complimented the food. Kudos to the kitchen!

Decent burger ... overcooked though

By ATX_Golfer_n_Foodie |

Stopped by The Little Darlin' before the rain started a couple nights ago and tried their food. The burger was big and filling (1/2 lb) and I ordered mine medium rare and she ordered hers medium and both burgers were a bit dry as they both were over cooked. Didn't encounter the "smell of smoke" issue I read in other reviews but after the rain started the outside patio got very loud and crowded though only a few smokers.

Edible

Waited 43 minutes for food although those people who ordered their food after us were served first. At 35 minutes we checked on our order and was told they were "working on it." During our 43 minute wait we noticed several miss-delivered orders. Our hamburger was overcooked. Had cheese on the burger - specifically asked for no cheese. The side salad was a pile of greens with 2 cherry tomatoes and 2 thin cucumber slices. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Best little bar & eats but with twists

By Edna K |

This was a surprise! Little Darlin is a hole in the wall, small place but great food. You order at the bar & pay there. Then food when ready is brought out to you. Surprisingly good! I had the grilled broccoli with yogurt sauce. Sounds funny but very good! Also had fried catfish which was good. Friend of mine had the broccoli as well but had grilled chicken added. Looked yummy & she said it was. Other friend had a burger with fries. Was good as well. They had loud music so it was hard to talk over that. They also have of course a full bar there & a yard out back & tables outside. Yet was too cold to be outside. The parking is limited & in mostly dirt areas. Not fancy place. Wear blue jeans etc. still I’d go back for the food. It was very good.

Good food and music, but overpowered by smoke

By Wedding in Maui |

The live music was a nice touch to some pretty good food, but there were so many smokers outside, in the stage area, it ruined the entire evening.

Hamburgers

Nice thick hamburger/cheeseburger with sides and nice outdoor sitting for you and your doggies. The plate is full that it would be hard to eat all of it.

Nice Environment Could upgrade Offerings a Smidge

We went to The Little Darlin’ for brunch on Father’s Day. Being Texas, masks were non-existent. We wore ours when in contact with others, anyway. We got there just as they opened and had our choice of tables. My wife and daughter both had the quiche. It was very deep-dish and huge slices. Both reported it moist and perfectly cooked. I had the biscuits and gravy with sausage and two eggs over easy. The biscuits were fluffy and the serving was large. The only shortcoming was a lack of seasoning. Both the gravy and eggs could have been elevated by salt and pepper; C-school 101. My wife’s and daughter’s Mimosas were run of the mill with low quality OJ. They stopped after one. My Bloody Marys were okay, but was that sour mix added to the first one? Great open air environment.

Bar with food, good portion sizes

By gep2 |

We went there for Saturday brunch with a large bunch of friends. Limited menu selection (maybe 8-10 choices) but good comfort food items, well prepared, and good portion size. You order your food at the bar, give them your credit card for your tab, and then go find a table... they bring the food to your table.

Stellar food in a dive bar

By Falba T |

Inside is dark, spacious, and well-air-conditioned. Outside is a great drinking spot. You order your food at the bar, so our expectations were low. OMG! My fried chicken sandwich with sweet 'n sour slaw was superb. The side salad was beautifully done and the dressing delectable.

Fun place, but needs some help on several fronts

By Helmut |

First and foremost, give the place a good overhaul, especially the toilets! Second, long wait for the food which was delivered cold. Boo. Drink selection was okay and the shows were fun. Would only come back for a specific band.

So cool.

I love this place. It has a very cool outdoor stage, with plenty of seating. If gives you a back yard feel with service.

Late meal after flying in

We went here after a late-evening arrival at the airport. Had some nice carnitas sliders and a burger with some beer, and we dined outside on a pleasant late evening.

Great Hangout!

South Austin is in need of more places like the Little Darlin'! In addition to a great selection of craft brews and cocktails, they have (what looks like) a great menu. I've only met friends here for drinks and good company. The yard out back is perfect on a warm summer night, with the DJ spinning chill tunes in the background. Pleasant people, enjoyable atmosphere, tasty cool drinks.
