The Local Eatery and Drinking Hole is a great place. Plenty of TV screens and the staff and service was outstanding. The Ahi wrap is amazing. They brew their own beer and it’s really good. This place is a must when visiting San Diego.

I ended up going here twice on a 5 day visit to San Diego, It was a block from my hotel so that was a plus but it was good enough to merit a repeat visit. Tiny brewery called Resident in the back. Solid craft brews. They also have plenty of other selections on tap. It can be loud so be prepared for that. But if you sit at the front by the opened up doors it is not so loud. I had tacos both times. They have a fair amount of tacos to choose from. I made the mistake of ordering pretzel balls and four tacos. I did not realize the tacos were so large. So I left stuffed to the gills. This is not a bad thing, just don't let your stomach outsmart your brain.

So hidden at the back of this restaurant is Resident brewing co. Fantastic beer and great service. Find this hidden treasure and you wont be disappointed

The service here is very quick and exceptional, we had things within minutes after ordering and this was on a busy Friday Night. They have an extensive Craft Beer offering, excellent Appetizers and Ala Carte Tacos. You’ll definitely want to try the Beer Cheese and Pretzel Balls, The were delicious. The Big Ass Nachos are on deck for our next visit. Lastly, everything is very reasonable priced for the area, so we had that going for us, which is nice. Whether you’re local or not, you’ll feel like one here at The Local. Cheers!

Every afternoon The Local has a Happy Hour featuring different specials. My favorite is Taco Tuesdays with $3 beers and super fresh $3 shrimp and fish tacos. On Thursday nights they have $3 drafts and $3 fish tacos on special. Casual place with great appetizers. Even full price is cheap.

First an admission: I did not want to like, or even try this restaurant/bar. It was only after my favorite downtown "watering hole" changed hands and, in my opinion, went downhill that I paid my first visit. Now, this is my favorite place. They have a really amazing selection of beers from most, if not all of the fine San Diego area micrebreweries. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the different styles and types available. Their food choices are for the most part bar food, but done extremely well. I have enjoyed a great burger there, (maybe the second best burger in San Diego), and terrific fish tacos. The atmosphere is a little bit wild and sometimes loud, but enjoyable. There are a few seats outside facing 4th Avenue that are great for people watching. Good food, good beer, and a fun atmosphere....it's a great place!

Recommended by US Grant staff for a quick bite to eat. Excellent fish tacos and burgers. Large portions, good prices and very friendly staff. Would return.

We went during Memorial Day weekend so it was packed and the music was jumping. The drinks were good, and we got a quesadilla. The size of it was more than I expected (always a bonus when sharing). It was a cool spot for sure.

We stopped in here for a quick beer on our way downtown. It turned into 3 delicious craft beers each and some excellent bar food. The beers were quite strong so be careful. the calamari and lobster tacos were gorgeous. Staff were very friendly and I'd recommend this place for casual eats or just a pint or two.

The best dish in the joint - Chile Verde! Try the Albóndigas (on Wednesdays), also an awesome dish...

Thorough selection of beer on draft. Creative menu. I had tofu spring rolls, served with a mild peanut sauce and a spicy hoisin--a bit of hoisin added to the peanut sauce-perfect. My husband had the Vietnamese noodle bowl--cold noodles with chicken on skewers and lumpia. He liked it very much. Good beer, good wine, excellent food. A bit noisy and a popular place.

We met family here for drinks and dinner. Staff was attentive and we were there for 2 1/2 hours because our families had not seen each other in a long time. They accommodated our different arrival times and sporadic ordering graciously. Food was good and the Griswold Martini was yummy! Highly recommend!

We had a great time at The Local Eatery! I had a hard time choosing which beer I wanted! They have a great selection and even brew their own! The food it top notch, too. Tons of tvs with all the sports games on was fabulous as well. The service was on point as well. Can't wait to go back...especially for an ASU game! Home of the Sun Devils!

We dined here on our first evening in town. It was very calm and quiet. We had a large party and the server did a fantastic job handling our table. Food and service was good. Would come back.

Typical Gaslamp tavern and eatery. Good mix of locals and tourists. Many large-screen TVs with sports events.

It was so good I thought it was chicken - really! Also shared the big ass nachos and street fries. We are so lucky to have great little bars that want to put out amazing food too! A little off the main gaslamp path - but worth the walk! fun & casual atmosphere - the great food friendly staff kicks it up a notch and makes it a fun place hang out any day of the week!

I stopped in because they had a Green Bay Packer flag, then found the beer and food selection exceptional. Beer selection is extensive. No need to stray from the local “Resident Brewing Co.” selections however, awesome flavors and nothing overdone. Great beer. Now for the food. Absolutely outstanding chili verde. The flavor was as authentic as it gets. From the citrus of the tomatillos to the perfect spice of the roasted jalapeño and roasted pork. All served as it should be. Fantastic experience, enjoy.

A friend and I decided to try The Local on a Friday night due to its proximity to the Civic Theatre. It was OK. Patrons seat themselves, and when we got there all the tables were filled, so we ended up sitting at the bar. I chose the Blackened Shrimp Burrito, which was good but very messy to eat. After most of the "fillings" fell out the bottom of the first half, I ate the second half with a fork and knife. My friend ordered the Short Rib Burger and enjoyed it, with the exception of a little gristle. Neither of us was in the mood for an alcoholic beverage, but the drinks menu did look very interesting. The bartender who served us was very nice and helpful regarding the menu. Service was pretty fast. It was very loud, so I wouldn't suggest this place for a romantic meal, but it's a fine place to watch a game with tons of big screens and an energetic environment.

I have been coming here for years now and I'm not sure if I have written a review here or not. The Local features great craft beer from around San Diego. At any one time they'll have about 40 plus craft beers on tap. You're sure to find something you'll like. For the past 14 months or so they have also carried Resident Brewing Company beer. Resident is owned by them and they have a small tasting bar towards the back of the Local ---right next to where they actually brew the beer. At any one time they'll have about 15 of the beers they brew on tap So if you're a craft beer drinker.....try some of the Resident Brewing Company beers My favorite is the Perky Blonde....and many people swear by their Vacation Coconut IPA. These are two of their more popular beers. I always have the food here. Portions are large. Price range is about $10-15. My favorites are the Big Wet Burrito....Lobster Tacos....Carnitas Tacos....Carnitas Street Fries....Big A$$ nachos.....oh heck...I can't go on....to much good stuff to mention. You get the idea.

These folks really took good care of us when we visited this place. A lot of fun! You could tell the locals enjoy this place as well. I'll certainly come back when in the area!

We found this spot via looking online nearby our hotel. The space was very open and roomy. Jake (our server) was super friendly, offered great suggestions for drinks and appetizers. Since we were in the mood for tacos that’s what we got. Portion size was large enough for each taco. We didn’t order the lobster taco and probably should’ve but next time. Lots of beer options if that’s your interest.

I came in to see the end of the Michigan-Ohio State game, and despite it being a big college football Saturday, there was only one bartender trying to take care of a growing number of customers. She was trying but was clearly overwhelmed, and as a result, service was a bit slow and impersonal. I had a burger, which was fine, but nothing special. It's probably a much better experience later on in the day.

Loved the fish tacos and beer on tap selection- did not like that the tap broke to my favoite beer- the Thunderweizen

Was in San Diego for a night during the pandemic of 2020 and decided to walk to “The Local.” The safety protocol were very well thought out and enforced with care. Additionally the chicken enchiladas were the best I’ve ever had in my 41 years of life. Perfectly seasoned and prepared. The wait staff was prompt without being annoying. Will definitely come back here when I find myself back in the SD.

Went several times during a week-long biz trip. Had an excellent selection of IPA's (truly excellent!) and fun, fresh, filling food. Trust me - their "Big A** Nachos" are huge and plenty for 3 or 4 people. Also had tacos, burgers, Cuban, poke salad, etc. and all were very good. Lively scene with lots of TV sports. An easy, fun place to hang!

My wife and I were in San Diego for vacation staying at the U S Grant Hotel. We were looking for a bar to watch Monday night football and the concierge directed us across the street to "The Local" (also known as Resident Brewing Company on Google, they are one and the same.) Food is excellent especially recommend the Nachos and the lumpia. Where else can you get lumpia in a bar?? we were welcomed even though we were routing for a team other than the usual fans in the bar. So comfortable we ended up here 3 of the next 5 nights after our sight seeing. I think I tried at lest 15 different local beers here. They have a huge selection of local craft beers from many different San Diego breweries.

The food was exceptionally good, the service was excellent, and the waitress wonderfully accommodating. Unfortunately the noise lets the place down

We were there with another couple to watch the NCAA basketball tournament and dinner. We ate at the bar. My shrimp burrito was excellent and the nachos were very good. It didn't seem overly busy, but they were out of the first two beers I wanted to try off their menu. The bartender was good, but getting his attention wasn't without some effort on our part when we wanted to order another round.

Spent time in SD and found this gem near my hotel. Found the bartenders Chad and Tony to be helpful, friendly and generally good guys to represent the business. Made accurate recommendations on food and drinks (burrito was awesome), and had such a good time came back twice more during the trip. Will definitely be my go to place in SD.

The Local is a great place for some good food, beer, and drinks. The food is delicious for high end bar food. The beers are locally brewed along with an extensive selection of their own brew. The bartenders are friendly and they make good cocktails. This is a lively place so don't go there for a quiet burger and beer. If you want to enjoy some San Diego night life, this is the place.

Absolutely amazing! We were here six, and everybody were more than delighted! Huge portions and very delicious food. Highly recommend!

I love this place and go there more than I care to admit. The staff are all really cool and I feel too comfortable there. Some of the dishes, are pure culinary genius. They have a new brewery online now and their crafts are quite tasty. For San Diego the prices at this place are very reasonable.

I tried the dark beer, and the chicken nachos the other day, and it was amazing. Great airflow at the bar, and good service with great prices.

I tried the ground short rib burger. It was wonderful. I sat at the bar during a baseball game and everyone was having a great time. The beers were delicious too.

Service was okay. Food was average and menu selection was typical of this type of establishment. I enjoyed the beer flight since I was traveling and not familiar with a lot of local brews.

We had the bean plate and quesadilla with a local wet willy pale ale. Nice spot, footy was on and a few locals were in, good atmosphere for all. Food was yummy, pretty good value for money. Beer was great! Perfect place for a quick bite or few cold ones with friends.

After being recommended by a family member, my husband and I decided to try this local eatery/brewery! We got the nachos and they were really good and filling. Great ciders and my husband also really enjoyed his beer. There are so many to choose from and there is something for everyone! Also had wonderful service by both bartenders that were working the bar!

Great open atmosphere and I recommend for anyone wanting to drink beer and watch the game. Cali Burrito was on special and not on the menu. Should add to menu, that was the best burrito I've had. Had a little bite, but was a taste explosion. Very good time. Server was very tentative, job well done. I could see it being a good place to hang for a light night social with food.

We went on a Friday Night, wasn't too crowded. Food was good. I had the Cuban which was good. My friend had the Big Wet Burrito which was better. Cocktails were pricey, but we were in downtown San Diego, so that was to be expected. The Best Drink Ever was seriously so good! Fun Atmosphere. Big Beer selection.

AMAZINGLY good tacos! the Carnitas tacos were the best. Sports bar ambiance, lots of different games on their TVs. Not a huge place, clean bathrooms

The place was not too noisy which was perfect. We ordered an appitizer of the prawns and it was delicious! Cute pie bartender too which is always a bonus!

We had the enchiladas with egg and the chicken and waffles. Both were very tasty, and the servings were bountiful.

fast and easy with great food and good portions. we wanted a place close to the civic center. just 2 blocks from the civic center. The food is really good. I have the ty noodle salad.

It was loud, full of screens with sports games, a crazy beer list, & great food. Lots of variety and fair prices. The short rib burger was outstanding as was the Vietnamese noodle bowl. There’s something for everyone.

We had the good fortune to hit Taco Tuesday night at The Local, which turned out to be a happy accident. You get a free mini taco with each beer during happy hour. We also ordered regular sized tacos (several choices) and beer cheese with pretzel balls as well -- decadent and delicious. The atmosphere in this wide open space with a window onto the neighboring microbrewery is casual and friendly, and our server Jessica was knowledgeable and totally on top of things. I'm a beer philistine and stick to the Miller LIte, but my colleague ordered a flight and thoroughly enjoyed sampling the wide variety of brews. The bill was fairly painless as well; all around a good night out.

We kinda sort sat down, I will get to that later. Ryan the Bartender asked what we would like. I told him "an IPA and I like Pine hops and citrus" he brought me a Urbanite, I had 2. Out food was PERFECT AND we have no complaints. The "sitting down" reference refers to this jerk who was sitting at the bar sober (not drinking) and actually would not move a seat over. He is behind my friend, not cool. He obviously is selfish and has issues. He has me, a woman sit in this low bar area when there was room. People like him reap what they sow, the sad thing is they don't know it. I feel sorry for his kind.

I am a local and was saddened to see that Maria's, the Mexican restaurant next door to The Local, had closed down for good. (I was there to have lunch.) Since Maria's was closed I thought I would try something to eat at the Local. There was hardly anyone in the place at 1:00 pm on a weekday. The staff was very friendly and attentive. My only "complaint" is that it's a bit loud and it took a while longer than I expected for my tacos to come out, but it's a bar (duh, it's going to be loud) and the tacos were well worth the wait. So, these really are not legitimate complaints. I would say that if you know what you are getting into, a bar - and you are not in a rush (say 20 minutes?) then you should definately go there. Really, probably the best fish tacos I have had and I'm a local San Diegan. And I love fish tacos. As for the bar scene, I didn't have any of the beers but there are plenty of tables, there are a ton of local and craft beers on tap, and there are a bunch of television screens. What more could you ask for?

I've gone here a number of times with coworkers. They have a variety of different cuisines and everything we have tried has been excellent. The fire birdy, the banh mi, the street fries, the fiesta salad. I could go on, but then I would just list the whole menu. Don't forget to ask for their house salsa!

Good beer selection, conveniently located downtown, and quick service. I went here during break from jury duty and it was quick and easy with good food.

My friend and I were staying at the US Grant hotel and after spending a few nights in their hotel bar decided we needed a different scene. We were blown away. The staff was super friendly and gave us a ton of recommendations for local restaurants and even insider tips on how to tackle the San Diego Zoo. After looking at their menu we decided to eat there the next night and were not disappointed. My friend and I shared the poutine fries and the chicken bomb mi and were blown away. The food was great and they have an amazing selection of local beers on draft and many that they brew in house. Everyone should stop frequenting touristy chains and come here!

The restaurant makes a sizable ranges of beer on top of a very good collection of beers from other breweries. I don't know if they sell their beer elsewhere, but I would glad drink theirs. Good wise, it was certainly good bar food. Atmosphere is vibrant and friendly. Nice little place to hang after work.

Big screen TVs around a large bar with large local beer selection on tap. The food is good but service was very slow at lunch when we ate on this busy Saturday in downtown San Diego, CA.

This is a wonderful, welcoming, albeit noisy bar and restaurant. I was there for an NBA playoff game, and then went back for the NHL playoff game. Food is excellent, and the beer selection was extensive. I had buffalo cauliflower off the appetizer menu, and a lobster taco. Both great, especially if you like seasoning. The next night I had chile verde, and highly recommend the food, atmosphere and cordiality of the staff and the other bar stool compatriots.

Excellent bar for watching your favorite college or professional sports team. It's located directly across the street from the US Grant Hotel. The food and appetizers are good along with the service. Great place to meet friends and enjoy a nice cold beer after a little big day of work or sightseeing.

The local is a popular lunch spot in downtown business S.D. It has lots of seating and abundant wait staff. We've never had to wait for a table when we walk in a little before noon or a little after 1:00 p.m. We've never booked a table. I suppose you can. Very varied menu. Even the common stuff - salads, burgers - are unique and well prepared. Try the spicy sandwiches, the buffalo cauliflower or one of the masala dishes. Its all good. Huge selection of craft beers. Busy bistro-style place and one of our regulars for business-type lunch. Service is quick and the food is great.

We had the poke which was surprisingly quite amazing! They had all the games on that anyone would want to see and for the most part a prompt staff. I'm excited to try the brunch this weekend if it works out.

Fun sports bar with solid local beer selection. Food was ok (had a chicken banh mi, was way too spicy). I was able to kill a few hours here while on business. Easy, fun, relaxing and approachable.

This place has an amazing number of beers on tap (both local and national brands). There is also a great happy hour from 3-6 each day!

Very noisy, wonderful service for our group of 15 in the back by the tap for the 20 or so craft beers served at any time. DJ played variety of oldies and contemporary stuff.

Wide open pub scene across from US Grant Hotel. Not a place for seniors to hang out. Stopped by for quick snack and draft beer before bed. Sloppy wait staff, poor quality food, and high prices. No atmosphere unless you like lots of kids making lots of noise. If you're staying at the Grant, there are many better pubs, but far less convenient. You would have to walk around lots of street people to get to the Gas area. If this frightens you, stay in the hotel and pay the higher prices.

great time, we stopped in for some drinks and eats. friendly staff, good bar food, good drinks, great atmosphere

This is my son's favorite place to stop off after work. As I am visiting him he introduced me to the place. Great staff who are very friendly! I recommend a drink called The Best Drink

Well, it's not actually little as the room is a good size. Fabulous craft beer selection featuring local breweries and their whiskey options are the best I've seen in a 'beer bar.'. Great vibe and the open walls to the street add to feel for the city. Connected to the Resident Brewery, the beer couldn't be fresher.

We had the Buffalo Cauliflower and rosemary chicken pasta. Very good! This is a pub so they serve pub type meals.

Poutine was delicious and a surprise to find outside of Canada. Service was awesome. Beer was also delicious and we had their in house brew.

We ended up at the Local while driving around trying to find dinner. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is good, and I would return for a repeat visit if I'm ever back in the area. The restaurant is a block off the beach and from the rooftop you can see the ocean. If you go to their website they have a banner saying they are Temporarily Closed for remodeling but I can vouch for the fact that they are open. I also think they updated their menu during the remodel so don't get hung up on the website menu. The food is varied and they have tons of beer on tap. There was something for everyone. A couple of us did the slow cooked meat and sides, which were delicious. The sides are unique with a mix of traditional and other items that seem Asian inspired. Even though I'm not in love with Asian food/seasoning I loved everything. The pork was our favorite of the 4 different meats offered. Another friend did a couple of the seafood tacos and couldn't say enough about how good they were. Don't do the 'Merica burger. This isn't a burger place and you will be disappointed.

San Diego boasts the most award winning microbreweries in the nation, and the Local, as the name implies, celebrates this local pride by carrying a rotating menu of amazing local brews and liquors. They are one of a few places to periodically stock my favorite IPA, Sculpin, which is hard to come by even in San Diego. In addition, they have great food, not just bar food. I love the big wet burrito and the pretzel with beer cheese, and the fish tacos are really popular, too. Everyone who works there is so friendly and welcoming, after our second visit (that's about 100 visits ago), we already felt like we were at our home away from home. Plus they have amazing happy hours and Wednesday Night Trivia is so fun! Love the Local.

Got in yesterday after a full day of traveling and wanted to go walk someplace for dinner. Had seen the reviews so we tried it out. The food and the beer were very good. What I really liked was the service. - very laid back - not constantly asking if we needed anything bu keeping an eye out for if we were needing something. The plan is to go again before we leave on Thursday.

Work close to here and this is our go to for after hours fun. Food is good and beer is cold. Good selection of beer. Service is always very friendly and fast. Never had a problem at this place. Usually a business crowd but always a fun, energetic vibe. Can't go wrong with the Local.

I returned to San Diego’s Gaslight district for the first time in 27 Years as a non-drinker looking for a bar that served great food. Thanks to Trip Advisor, I stumbled upon this gem. The small menu has excellent, flavoursome dishes and the table staff are super friendly. Also it doesn’t cost as much as food of this quality usually does.

While we did not eat at The Local while we stayed in San Diego - we did stop by every night before turning in to our hotel. It's definitely a "local" hangout - but we never felt uncomfortable or out of place. The bartender's were great and the beer and tequila delicious.

We had our best fish tacos in that restaurant. The rest was only average. A bit loud, so best if some of your party are here to watch a game, otherwise might not be the best place

We eat here a couple times a month for lunch and an occasional after work happy hour. The fish specials are usu excellent. The menu food is very good and the bar selection is extensive. The Local is just a fun place and I hope it keeps that vibe with the expansion.

This place deserves more balls! I'd give it six balls if there were another ball to give. I'm surprised by the many 3- and 4-baller reviews. The beer selection is awesome. A collection of some of the best Sam Diego craft brews. The food is classic Southern Californian and more. I had the wings, the Vietnamese summer rolls and, by far my favorite, the brisket barbacoa taco. Sweet Jesus in heaven that is good. All I can say is this place is definitely underballed.

This place has a little of everything, I was very pleased with the calamari. The fish tacos are absolutely awesome and a large beer selection. We watched the Olympics and hung out for awhile. Service is great and the food is really good. I would highly recommend and I will certainly be back.

Went before a gig at 4th and b, it was taco tuesday and I had the lobster and the fish tacos, I'd recommend the fish over the lobster as the lobster is breadcrumbed which is not to my liking, although they were very nice and cheap too. All mexican beers were only $3 too. 5 of us ate and drank like kings and it came to very little. The staff are very friendly there and know their stuff. I like the surf themed decor too. Top place and one of the better bars downtown.

John and Sean were really cool bartenders. Very friendly, sociable, and knowledgeable when it came to their beer. Great chill, local place for a beer and great tasting mud pie.

Visiting from out of town, looking for a sports bar. Great service and clean bathrooms. Secret dry rub wings and pretzel balls were great.

I had the pozoli and local Moco, and both were amazing. I did not have beer for breakfast but the list is extensive. The service was good. Staff very friendly. Totaling accommodating on special food requests. Lots of tvs, great place to hang out.

Great little place downtown. Unusual menu but everything is wonderful. Service is awesome. This seems to be a popular place for happy hour. Loud and fun!!

When visiting San Diego, you have to drop by the Local for a cold one from there extensive selection of local brews and an order of lobster tacos. You will be glad you did! Friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere. Located across from the US Grant. Treat yourself!

Stayed at the US Grant for 4 nights and popped into the Local Eatery twice while in San Diego. First top was for a late dinner (10pm or so) and received excellent service and a solid meal. Came back Sunday for drinks and also had a good experience. Sampled several beers on Sunday and bartenders were helpful with recommendations. If you are staying at the US Grant, this is a good place to grab a drink (especially if you like beer) or a bite. Would definitely come back.

We just got off a long flight from Philly and hadn't eaten all day. We decided on The Local and even though we are not packers fans we had a great beer and meal. The staff is friendly, the beer is quality, and the food is great! The place is definitely loud if you are going during a game, but hey there are worse things for sure. Go HUNGRY and get the wet burrito! You will not regret it.

We recently visited San Diego and picked The Local for our Gaslamp eatery of choice. It was St. Patrick's Day, so the mood was right and there were festive food and drink specials. Great choice for celebrating the holiday and top rate service by the staff!

Stopped in on a Sunday before a Padre game, the place was packed for football as they have tons of TV and label them so you know where to sit to see the game you want. Did seem to be a Green Bay Packer bar based on the people coming in as we left for the game - too bad as we are Packer fans. Food was excellent, service was great as well. We did have to share a table with others simply because of the crowd, but our server knew exactly how to handle the bill. Great beer list as well, as they brew their own but also have lots of guest taps.

reasonable food - noisy at times - but you can sit on the patio - the shrimp burrito is good - priced ok - toilets are a disgrace - people watching on the patio at lunch time is ok

The nachos, & sandwiches are great. Large size, great beers and friendly service. Great fresh air, and fun music.

This was our first stop for the evening. We had brisket nachos....awesome! My husband found a delicious IPA and I enjoyed my pomegranate cider. Service was great.

Great lobster tacos on tuesday's plus a fine selection of local brews... Race car number 5 my fav! Near the trolley station on the outskirts of the gaslamp district, across the street from the U.S. Grant.

This is a great place for some good old fashion beach food! Go for lunch to get smaller sizes so you can try it all! Calamari the size of my FINGER!! Fresh local LUMPIA and the best house made sauces you have ever had!!! Be sure to eat upstairs so you can enjoy the beautiful view!

The concierge at our hotel recommended The Local to us for a late night bite and cocktails. My husband really enjoyed the Local 'Rita and we shared an order of Ale Drunk Mussels which were delicious. Great vibe and excellent service.

great beer. great mixed drinks. friendly staff. good pub grub. bunches of televisions and all you could want in a sports bar. cool downtown location.

This place was awesome. Good food. Spectacular selection of beer. Do not be afraid to ask questions. One of the bartenders an African American gentleman was really knowledgeable about beer the brewing process and individual tastes. So sorry I forgot your name!!

We stopped by for lunch and it was packed! We grabbed a pub style table and were greeted right away by a smiling waitress. She told us the specials beer options. I had the October Nutty Brown special and my husband had a Corona. After she brought them back, she went over the daily specials and we decided they sounded pretty good. My husband got the tuna burger and I got the carnitas. The portions were pretty big and the food was pretty good. IThe beer selection is great. The atmosphere is causual, relaxed, with surf themes and flat screen tv's showing the latest game. I'd come back.

OK, so I many be biased but this place is awesome! We were visiting from Green Bay and as soon as we saw the Packer and Badger flags on the exterior we were sold. Don't know why this exists on the West Coast but we loved the place. Staff is super-friendly and food was very good. Nacho plate is yummy and the sandwiches were perfect with our beers. Went in for the Badger game on Sat. night and it was crazy in there! So many Wisconsin fans - where do they all come from? Even a Bucky Badger mascot was dancing around for awhile. Then we came back the next day for the Packer game on Sunday and it was more of the same. Wild fans watching various games on the many TVs and lots of friendly teasing back and forth. Made many friends and loved the beer selection. Would certainly recommend to anyone that wants to interact with a great staff and patrons that know how to have some fun.

Went here on a Sunday night when the Chargers were the last game and the place was packed. We got there just in time to grab a table, about 15 minutes before kickoff. We sat outside because it was available and could see the TVs. It was a lively crowd and definitely a fun place to watch games. My group tried all the tacos and liked all of them. The beer was pretty cheap with a good selection of local brews on draft. After our meal we went upstairs and watched the game with the rest of the crowd. Apparently its an ASU bar as well so apparently they know how to host groups for games. Being from the East Coast at was a pleasant surprise and different than most beach bars you come across. Would definitely suggest the Local to anyone heading to San Diego. Its walking distance to a bunch of other bars too so if its not your type of spot its not like you have to call a cab or anything.

Went in on a Friday night. Place was totally packed but we'll staffed. Very large beer menu. We shared a few appies. All were fantastic. DJ playing was good. Cool atmosphere.

In a nutshell: Good food-large portions-more than fair prices Drinks---plienty of local beers and some of the major domestics. Also decent prices for well drinks. Atmosphere: Not fancy--not a dive either--laid back. Kind of a neighborhood bar vibe.

We had lunch at this restaurant and it was really terrific! The prices were very modest but the food was very fresh and really was exactly what we were looking for. I had a salad that was just beautifully made and everything seemed extremely fresh. My husband had their Tortilla Soup that he thought was wonderful. I would definitely go back. Even for a late lunch it was crowded and is an obvious favorite amongst locals.

Nothing fancy! Stopped in to sample the beer and had a good time. Try the Island IPA - toasted coconut & pineapple flavors!

Before the play at the Civic Theater (around the block), needed a quick bite. Excellent micro-brewed in-house beers (Resident Brewery), eclectic menu with lumpia, 5 different street tacos (lobster my favorite), burgers. Accommodated a gluten-free diet. Service fast and efficient.

This place has an extensive beer selection, and some of the best tacos I've ever had. Carnitas, Lobster, Brisket, Chicken, etc.. Very good and reasonably priced. Good for watching Sports, lots of TV'S as well.

For our last night of our trip in California, we're very disappointed! The service is poor.. we had been served very late, they forget twice our order, and don't even try to be pleasant when they're taking our order ! Also, they don't prevent us about the size of our taco, that are the size of our palm of our hand, being still hungry after this ..

Tried the Local Eatery and Drinking Hole for dinner. Had a waitress who could have cared less if we were there. The food, however, was excellent. Reasonably priced.

Gets a five as it gave me what I expected with great service. Beer is brewed in house (Resident Brewery) and pretzel balls with beer cheese was a tasty app. Lots of room and TVs to catch the game and did I mention the service?

When I arrived in San Diego I was starving. I was staying at the US Grant so this was perfectly situated right next door! I didn't stay the first time I was there, ordering takeout to enjoy in my room. I got the Burger which was moist and delicious. The next day when my sister arrived in town we went for lunch, again due to the convenience. It wasn't as magical experience as the first time. My sister ordered the wet burrito and it had such an overwhelming amount of guacamole and sour cream that she couldn't finish it. I had the salad with the fresh catch with blue cheese vinaigrette. What they failed to mentioned on the menu and when I ordered was the really strong feta that came on the salad and clashed with the blue cheese vinaigrette. Not the best lunch experience, but based on the burger, I know the food here can be pretty delicious. I definitely suggest testing it out when you're looking for a low key dining spot.

For such a wonderful, hip, clean, friendly bar & restaurant... with amazing staff & craft beer... your restroom sign leaves very little to be desired...must say it was tacky & tasteless!!! If an individual from another country was visiting, I would be embarrassed by this worthless non-funny & quite frankly crude sign. You are better than this!!!!!!

After long day in the zoo, we wanted a cold drink and some good food...we got both, along with great service! We enjoyed a fantastic pub burger and a portabella burger with loaded fries. Oh, yes! Both were amazing and huge. It's a fun atmosphere with a good selection of local draft beers. Definitely would come back if were are coming back to San Diego.

The Local's new Pacific Beach (PB) location does indeed well reflect the vibe of the community in which it serves. That is, if by "Local" you mean intoxicated girls sitting on the ground outside the restaurant entrance crying on a random Sunday afternoon. This place is, pardon me for lack of a better term in my best British accent, dreadful. Known for its rowdy, coastal vibe, Pacific Beach expectedly hosts its fair share of partiers, college students and vacationers throughout the year. However, the concentration level of bombed bombshells and sunburned "that guys" was high, even by PB standards. And probably to the level where in an instant, things could turn awry. Our party could barley hear each other over the cacophony of extremely loud music and yelling. The food was moderate, with bar and grill basics as well as Hawaiian-style types of plate lunches. The prices were reasonable. The beer selection, by San Diego standards, was not impressive, but probably better than most chain restaurants. It is not family-friendly, and not a place for a "nice" meal. We will not be returning.

Wanting a quick lunch and having checked TripAdvisor, I found my way here, attracted both by reputation and their connection to the Resident craft beer company next door. The place is busy at the noon hour but there was immediate room at the bar. The bartender was covering a pretty busy clientele but I never waited long for attention. The menu has a fairly wide range of lunch items, I settled on the lumpia (Puerto Rican style pork egg rolls) and asked the bartender which of their craft brews would go with them, and she thought deeply and brought shot-glass samples of Resident Legally Blonde and Hall Pass. Both were full flavored pale brews, the Hall Pass seemed a little soapy to me so I went with the clean, acidic Blonde and it was a good match. My lumpia arrived, eight of them precisely crispy and full of good pork flavor. They were topped with a bitter herb that tasted of green oinion--couldn't recognize it, but I thought a small nibble was a nice palate cleanswer between lumpia. It was on a bed of shredded purple cabbage, which did nothing for taste but maybe kept them crisp. They came with a sort of barbecue dipping sauce. The place has an industrial feel, they play 70s style soul music which enhanced my pleasure, their garage doors were open to let in the fine San Diego weather. If you like to sample local craft beers with some well thought pub food, I don't think you'll do better.

Had a great time! Amy was great! She made sure we got to watch the Badgers!!! Lots of TV's for college football! Good food!

Lots of beer and IPA choices. We had appetizers and they were all very good, especially the pretzel balls. Excellent service and friendly staff and patrons.

So many unique food options to choose from, it's hard to pick just one. We had the Bomb Mi and Mac 'n Cheese. Um, yumm. Good service. Fun atmosphere.

I’ve been to The Local a couple times and I’m always happy with the place. The staff is great and the drinks are good. There are plenty of tvs with all the games on. The food isn’t too shabby either. It’s definitely worth a try.

Great cozy bar we finished our trip off with. Service was a 10! They have a great selection of different brews and a fun atmosphere.

Was visiting from Arizona. Went here Saturday to watch the ASU vs Stanford game. It was awesome we won and drank beer with other ASU fans so it was perfect.

(This place is also listed on Google Maps as Resident Brewing Company...they are the same location). Great place to grab a crisp, refreshing beer. They have a diverse beer menu - something for everyone! Their Buffalo Cauliflower (vegetarian appetizer) is delicious. The buffalo sauce is definitely on point. At first glance (other than their bunch menu) there aren't a lot of vegetarian options, including no options for a vegetarian taco. I did talk with my server, and he said he would be able to talk with the kitchen to make a custom order. So, if you want vegetarian tacos, ask! Service was great, bathrooms were clean, and the sports scene (TVs with games on) is on point. A great place in downtown SD!

We had dinner there, service and food, EXCELLENT!! Crazy cool bathrooms! Great menu choices and daily specials, will definitely return!

Went here yesterday...it was a cool view of the ocean. The service was fantastic and the fish tacos had great flavor. They have kegs of wine...the chardonnay was actually pretty good. Great place to stop for a little bite, a day drink or a relaxing time with friends.

We drove down from LA to meet friends for a nearby concert. They're more beer fans and we're more wine fans. We were both pleased with The Local. Reservations are highly recommended on concert night. The restaurant was full and a good 75% were waiting on the concert. I called in the morning and had great seats. The staff was friendly and attentive so we wouldn't be delayed. Drinks were downtown priced but were very tasty. The food was the big surprise. Wasn't expecting the quality and flavor to be so high. Even the nachos. Which btw was a very generous portion. If ever back in town we will definitely be back. Plus it's only a quick block and a half to the theatre. Very convenient.

This was the first place we went to for a meal after traveling from the East Coast. What a great place...as it was Tuesday, we had tacos, of course. They were delicious. The drinks were terrific and the price was reasonable.....I'm going back the next time I'm in San Diego.

Great bar, average lunch food except for the soups and lunch specials-usually a great portion, tasty and fresh fish. Service is good and the people are nice. Lunch prices are way up recently so not sure how often I will return.

Good selection of beers and good food. Was kind of quiet, however it was a weeknight so that was probably why.

Very casual atmosphere with fun environment. Nice draft menu and you MUST try the lobster tacos! The rosemary mac and cheese was pretty good but does not compare to the lobster tacos.

Stopped for a quick bite. I was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of local IPAs that I could chose from (tried the Coronado, which was great). Wanted to try a couple different fish tacos, and was able to order them ala carte. The lobster taco was far and away the best (I had expected the fish taco to rule). Service was great - -felt right at home.

got there before noon, famished after our 5 hour 8am flight from Toronto. Got the Big Wet Burrito which was literally the length of a grown man's forearm, and the Vietnamese Rice Noodle Bowl. Both were beautifully presented and insanely delicious. would go back again for sure

If you are looking for a place with sports entertainment and decent food, this is a good choice. It is busy and can be loud, but the service is good and the food is tasty.

It is a great place to go with friends enjoy the warm environment, professional service, and tasteful food. You can feel the positive energy as soon you see and get into the Local

We visited San Diego for a long weekend and were looking for a good dinner place near our hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Well, we found it in the Local Eatery on 4th Avenue. Awesome Ahi tuna wrap and fish and chips were very good in this sports bar atmosphere. ASU is the team they follow! We recommend to all that that are looking for a good dinner at a sports bar atmosphere in Downtown San Diego.

Got there at 430p on a sunny Saturday and could choose our where to sit, outside, half in, half out, back of open, spacious dining area. I had the shrimp burrito, yummy, just needed to add salsa. Couple of their own brews were awesome, the blonde and the hall pass.

On a Saturday night, this place was very crowded and very loud. It took a while to get a table. But the food was quite good. The beer cheese with pretzel balls were the second-best soft pretzels I've had in a bar/restaurant yet, and I've tried several. I got the brisket poutine appetizer for my dinner. It was super delicious but definitely meant to be shared! After having those pretzels I couldn't even eat half of the poutine, which was a shame. My husband got the short rib burger and reported that, while good, it wasn't as good as my brisket poutine.

Very popular pub with an interestingly rehabbed industrial setting. Wide selection of craft brews from a variety of producers but the real winners are those produced in house! Menu is a solid selection of pub type and some unique offerings. Our party of seven were all very pleased. Servers are very pleasant and efficient. Really nice spot!

We were in San Diego during Packer season and googled "Packer bar near me" and this place came up in the search. We were looking for a place to watch the Sunday game. We took an Uber and when we got here, the place was packed with people vacationing in San Diego from Wisconsin and mostly wearing Green Bay Packer stuff. It was a fun time as we got to chat with several couples and others all from Wisconsin that just happened to be in San Diego, and all found this place to watch the game. The food was good, and we all had a fun time.

Nice selection of local beers. Thats about it.

I have made 3 visits. First the good. Their beer list is actually very good. Some excellent beers on it, however every time I visited they pushed their own (Resident brand) beers. I did try them but they were good but not as good as their external brews. My wife is not a beer drinker, so having Wine on the menu is important. They do, but in 2 of the three visits they did not have the wine they had listed. To be fair their cocktails are actually pretty good, so she did ok. We tried the appetizers once, and the nachos were fine, but other than that nothing to write about. Come here for the beer, and the ambience.

I should know by now not to expect a great cocktails at a beer place. However, I did order an old fashioned and it was the worst old fashioned I've ever had. The food, however, was pretty good. I had brisket poutine and it was very good. I went a second time during this visit to have a brisket taco and a fried lobster taco. They were both pretty good as well. The beer is probably good just don't order a cocktail.

We walked over to The Local after a recent event at The Civic Theater. We specifically picked them because they were listed as being open longer hours than other establishments in the area and we wanted to eat. Upon walking in we noticed a sign to seat ourselves wherever we liked. We started walking toward a table before being rudely pointed over to the bar. It was apparent the waiter wasn’t interested in waiting on more tables and had already done a lot clearing of condiments from the tables. So needless to say it wasn’t exactly a positive first impression but we were hungry so we followed his pointing and found a couple of seats. Needless to say, I’m glad we did because the bartender, Kiante, was great and made up for the rude start. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars for service in this review is due to the initial waiter. Kiante would be deserving of five stars if he were to be rated by himself. He greeted us promptly and helped me pick out a drink. We ordered a Brew Pub Burger and a Grilled Romaine salad to split. The Brew Pub Burger was fantastic. It is a short rib burger cooked to perfection and loaded with all sorts of toppings and a healthy serving of crispy fries. It makes my mouth start watering just thinking about it again. We would definitely order that again….and again. The Grilled Romaine Salad left a lot to be desired. It was served with a Tzatziki dressing, tomatoes, fried chick peas and onions. The dressing was minimal and didn’t add much taste - it was bland and boring. We would not order it again which is a shame because it was plated well and sounded good when reading the menu. To drink I had Turquoise Barn Passion Peach Cider. That was also really good if you’re into hard ciders. Overall Kiante, the Brew Pub Burger and the cider saved this visit from the off-putting first impression. If I were to give management one suggestion it would be to pay attention to when there are shows at Civic Theater and plan accordingly. It turned out the waiter did end up having to take additional tables as we weren’t the only people who walked over after the show and there wasn’t nearly enough room at the bar for so many people. I’ve since read in other reviews that our experience wasn’t the only bad first impression so there’s definitely room for improvement.

We loved this place so much as came back twice! Great food, great staff and wonderful beer. Highly recommend a stop for some local treats!

Stopped in on a business trip for dinner. They had some great burgers and fries. it was mostly the standard pub / bar fare with a friendly staff and an impressive beer menu.

The Local has been a staple in downtown San Diego for over a decade but it keeps getting better, most recently with an impressive expansion and the opening of Resident Brewing inside. The menu continues to evolve but the favorites remain (tacos!). The expansion included the addition of many tap handles almost all of which are pouring delicious local craft beer. With the Great happy hour and weekend bottomless brunch. Free taco Tuesday! Very popular for trivia on Weds nights. The Local has some of the most experienced and well respected staff in downtown San Diego and they will guarantee that you enjoy your experience.

While in San Diego, we wanted to watch the UCLA bowl game and after reading up on this place it seemed like a sure bet. Tons a tvs, staff was friendly, good beer selection. But then it all fell apart. There were at least 6 tvs that were tuned into the Eagles game and we asked if the tv near us could be changed....there were 2 tvs side by side with the same game on. Our waitress did so right away and we watched the game for about 15 minutes before we were told another group insisted on changing it back...remember there was a TV right next to it that had the Eagle game on. Rather than the waitress telling that group the obvious they made us switch seats to the very back of the place with a small TV to watch. We also had to bus our own table to move. As restaurant owners ourselves we were so offended we just left and finished the game at another bar....which got the heftier bill obviously.

Shame on us for taking so long to give this place a try! Full disclosure: we did not set out that Friday evening expecting to eat dinner at the Local. We actually walked over to another, newer restaurant a couple blocks away. We quickly found that to be a disaster, so walked over to the Local for its "proximity to" Resident Brewing. (Ha, we figured out after getting a table at the Local that Resident is actually located at the back of the Local.) Anyway, our waitress was attentive and friendly and everything that the staff at that other place we walked out of were not. She got us set up with our first pours of the night, and gave us time to peruse the menu. I must say, I was quite surprised by the diversity of the food menu. They offer everything from "normal" pub food to Asian-inspired meals to salads. I decided on the Vietnamese Noodle Bowl (right?!), and my husband got the "Beef on Weck", basically a French Dip served with true horseradish (foreshadowing!) We were almost done with our first round when our food came out, which was perfect timing, as it gave us a chance to order something more suitable for our meals. The noodle bowl was delightful, though I did ask for extra dressing on the side, which was not needed at all. The dish was full of fresh, bright flavors, and perfectly balanced by the deep roasted dressing. It was served with two chicken skewers and a lumpia, both equally delicious. I made short work of the noodles, enjoying the crunch of the vegetables (carrots, cabbage, and sprouts) and the bit of citrus bite from the grilled lime. I would absolutely order that again. My husband started out enjoying his sandwich, but then made the huge mistake of thinking they'd provided him with a "beginner's" version of horseradish - meaning, the weak version that gives off no heat. Unfortunately for him, the horseradish was the real deal, and he piled way too much of it on. Oh, it burned, folks. It burned so much he had to scrape the rest off just to be able to finish his meal. He said the next time we go, he'll probably try the burrito. Not sure how much of that decision has to do with the horseradish OD, though... To top off the meal, we decided to share the Coffee and Cookie Mud Pie. I wasn't exactly full to the brim by the time we got around to ordering dessert, but I couldn't take more than a few forkfuls of the thing. It was massive and sweet and sated my sweet tooth, but it's very much. I'm glad we found a new favorite spot so close to home (not that The Field is so very far away, but you know what I mean...) The service was good (though our waitress did disappear for a bit), both food and beverage menus were expansive, and it's easy to walk to. I know we'll be back soon.

This place is a classic. It's important to know they call it The Local for reason. Created by locals and run by locals. The quality of the food here and the outstanding level of service will help anyone feel right at home. That's the goal. They treat you like family and they actually prides themselves on doing just that. I've been coming to The Local for very long time, close to 9 years now. There's one reason why I keep bringing friends and family here & continue to be coming back and that's because they do an exceptional job at delivering quality food and an atmosphere. Don't forget to enjoy their craft beer: Resident Brewing. Created by Residents of San Diego. Perfect Local spot that is the perfect image of a welcoming, and happy San Diego atmosphere!

Good pub grub!

Great place and awesome people. Owner talked to us even though he went to asu. Wildcats! He was amazing and so was everyone else. 10 thumbs up.

Right by our hotel (Westgate Hotel). Great place to watch a game. Bartender Richie is a master at handling a huge bar. Food was terrific. Brianna was our waitress on one of our visits and she was a doll. We went back several times during our spring break trip and were never disappointed.

This is a great looking sports bar/brew pub. Really nice venue to catch a sporting event and have a few beers. However, I was not impressed by the service or the food. Server was inattentive and probably let my food sit in the kitchen too long after it was up--who knows--but it was brought to me stone cold. I should have sent it back but was not in the mood to create discontent at the table, so I ate it. Wasn't bad, probably would have been really good had it not been cold. I might give these guys another chance if I'm downtown, but they'll have to do a lot better.

This beer pub in the Gaslamp District in San Diego hit a home run in terms of food, atmosphere, and service. It was so good that I ended up going three nights in a row. First night I had a bowl of the green chicken pozole which was filled with white chicken meat and delicious. Next evening went back for Happy Hour Small Plates menu. This is a "smaller" version of EATS PUB menu and is more than enough for two or three. Order a few and make a meal out of it. The tacos are delicious especially the lobster and chicken adobada. The resident brewery, which is part of the pub, has awesome, ale, beer, IPA's. The server let us sample some brews so we get taste the different flavors and degree of hops. We were able to enjoy watching sports of the day on the large TV screen in the pub. Service was fantastic, friendly and quick, making great menu recommendations.

Came in here to watch the last quarter of the Thursday Night football game. It was full, which is always a good sign. Lots of local beers on tap, and the food was good! The nachos plate was huge, I couldn't finish it. Definitely a win. Will be coming back.

While on jury duty I wa looking for a place to kill a long lunch. I walked into the Local and was glad I did. The food was very good, loved the wings, and having a brewery on site is nice too.

We spent an afternoon here relaxing with some people watching - some great local beers, some great tacos and some nachos with brisket that are just delicious and really tasty. There is a large open window onto the street (like a rolled back garage door). We sat at the bar - it has a great vibe. Nice local people enjoying delicious beers. Staff are super and are friendly and attentive. Would absolutely recommend. It’s as the name suggests - mainly full of local people which is always a good sign too!

After a day of travel and crossing three different time zones, we wanted a place to eat that was nearby the US Grant. Our bellhop recommended the Local. We weren't disappointed with our lunch and chose this restaurant for dinner on our last night as well.

It was suggested that I try this place when in San Diego. I did and then again several times. The beer selection is great, as are all the staff I met there on the eight plus visits I made. I have tried out the food and find it to my liking. What I enjoyed the most, apart from the great staff, was meeting local people there. We have all types coming in and all are very friendly. I great place for a new-comer to meet locals.

I had gone prior to the renovation and was pleasantly surprised by the new layout and especially the new menu. I really wish they would not use black beans but that's just a personal opinion.
Great beers and atmosphere
Awesome spot to catch a game or other sports. Resident Brewing is in the back of the place-amazing beers. I had an experimental pastry stout and it was in the top 5 of beers that style for me. Very well balanced. They also have an excellent selection of local and other beers on tap and a full bar! We only had an app, the loaded street fries, but they were really tasty. The carnitas was very well cooked. Overall a great spot! Short walking distance from the Amtrak or COASTER at the Santa Fe Depot station.
