I had the hatch chile chicken enchiladas and they were very good. The black beans were as good as I've had. Daughter had chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese. She liked both but raved about the Mac and cheese. Looks like a place locals come to eat and relax.

We had a girls weekend and the owner of the Airbnb recommended this restaurant. It was very good! Susan was our server and she was excellent! The atmosphere was very nice and we loved that there was a wishing tree outside the restaurant. Food was wonderful and we will definitely go back when were in Dallas/Bishop Arts District again

Located on the east end of the very popular Bishop Arts district. Parking lot at back was dark in this older neighborhood. Good variety of appetizers and entrees for both carnivores and vegetarians. Full barn with 8-10 drafts and large variety of bottle and can beers. Wide range of clientele - families with kids, couples, and singles that Saturday night. A few TV's over the bar but not a sports bar. Good variety of piped music and it does not appear to have room for live entertainment. Our appetizers and entrees were good - especially the fish tacos. Service was attentive. Appears they have brunch on weekends but not sure about an early am breakfast. We will go again.

OMG! I love this hidden gem! My friend amd I went around 5pm. There is not much parking, but we were able to fit in a couple of spots. There's other close parking to walk from. The happy hour drinks were made nice and strong! The bacon appetizer, called Bucket of Love, is a must try. I am going again today mainly for that. I had the chicken tenders, and they were good. My friend had the mushroom burger and liked it. She said it was juicy. The service was great as well!

My wife discovered the Local Oak on the Internet, when we were lookng for an alternative to having to deal with the parking in the Bishop Street Arts District. We wanted to have a nice dinner before going to the Kessler and being from North Dallas, we love eating in the Bishop Street Arts District, but we just hate the parkng situation there. It surprised us how close it was to the the Arts District, Right down the street from Vera Cruz on West 8th, right at Zang. There is parking enough fro 4 vehicles right out front, but parking lots on both sides of the restaurant, includeing their own private lot. Parking shouldn't be an issue. We got there before 6pm on a Saturday, so they weren't busy yet. One of the owners, Alycen met us at the door and seated us. She told us about the restaurant and the building's history. Very intersting. She advised one of the other owners was the Chef and was back in the kitchen. The menu had a wide variety and weekend "Blunch", instead of Brunch, really looked interesting. They also had some build your own libations that really looked good. For our entrees, my wife had the Chicken Enchilada and I had the Meat Loaf. My wife was in heaven, stating that the Enchilada was one of the best she ever had, even better than our favorite mexican restaurants. Meat Loaf was also very good. Unfortunately we didn't have time to test out the desserts, because we had a show to get to. Wife already checked out the Happy Hour Specials and since she works at a major hospital near downtown, she has already starting plannng their next happy hour adventure. Unfortunately, the Chef never made it over to our table, since he was busy with friends, but we would like to express to him and Alycen how much we enjoyed our meal. We will be back. By the way, you can't beat the prices for what you get.

This place is on the edge of the Bishop Arts District so you won't have any problems finding parking! My husband and I used a groupon to eat there for dinner, and we were impressed by the friendly helpful service. We didn't have a long wait for our food either, and it was all cooked to order. One thing to note - they offer an appetizer called candied bacon in a bucket. It's not a huge bucket, but plenty for two of us. There wasn't much sweet on the bacon and it was seriously undercooked. They had so much hot sauce on it that we had to ask for some crackers to help our burning tongues. On a happy note, their burgers are wonderful, and blended in house from several high quality flavorful cuts of beef. I really enjoyed the new shrimp poboy with its green chili tartar sauce! Both meals came with what they call "trash fries" - a blend of regular fries, sweet potato fries, waffle fries and tater tots! Cute and tasty side. They have an extensive offering of wine, beers, and well drinks so you will certainly find a favorite. I tried the honey revolver beer and found it to be well balanced and not at all heavy for a darker draft. Try it!

We have been here probably the most times. Happy hour on Saturday all day!!!! Daily food and drink specials. The TLO burger with an egg is the best. Josh is the coolest bartender!

We wanted to try out a different brunch location with great mimosas. We found it!! We each got 2 mimosas that hit the spot. (1/2 a bottle in each glass )We had the French toast (I asked the server about it ). It was delicious!! We also got the brisket and biscuits. She said she wanted to slap everyone, the gravy was that good. Our server Yuri was super nice had great suggestions and checked on us on the regular :)

Local Oak is very local, offering local craft beers and a nice bar food menu. With a full bar, TVs, simple food and lots of space to chat with friends. Sometimes the servers can be indifferent, but it is probably at least as good as the service at home. They have neighborhood events such as art classes to make this a truly local experience. Check it out, not quite in Bishop Arts but just a short walk away. When the new Street Car station opens it will be right next to it. Lots of parking next door.

Incredible chicken enchiladas!!!! Who would believe that this restaurant can compete with the fancier Bishop Arts restaurant. I'm a believer. You need to try the Spam sand which as well. Don't turn your nose, it's wonderful. I have put this gem in my rotation of dining in Dallas. Try it for lunch and you will see how good the food is. Oh also reasonably priced meals.

We went early to pick a 5K race packet, and stayed for dinner. The food was excellent, and because the place was only 1/3 full, the service was good too. However, when I got the bill, a can of local craft beer was $7, and a pint of local craft beer was also $7. This place is NOT Jerry World, so $7 is $1-$2 over the average price around town. If you just want of good selection of craft beers, GO SOME PLACE ELSE, or get ripped off.

The food is sub par and the drink selection is all canned. As a Oak Cliff/Bishop Arts frequent restaurant goer, I would recommend skipping this place. It leaves you feeling "eh".

It was a very rainy Wednesday and not very crowded. Staff was very attentive. We all had different items:meat loaf, enchiladas, soup/salad, chicken fried steak. All prepared very well. The bill for 4 lunch entrees with two people having a beer was $50.

Recently went with a friend to have cocktails and snacks on a Saturday early evening 7 PM. Remembered that the local oak offers decent drinks, snacks and meals. This Gastro pub is located on the on the edges of the Bishop Arts area. Many people fail to walk just an extra block to get here. The Local Oak has a huge dedicated parking lot. On a Saturday at prime time there was immediate and plenty of available seating inside. There is also some decent seating outside. Service is brisk and friendly. Plenty of different drink choices along with lunch specials and dinner items. The large inside dining area allowed us to find a nice table and we were able to talk and stay cool at the same time. The atmosphere is very casual. We just missed the happy hour which ended at 7 PM. Ordered the candied bacon appetizer. It was just OK because although generous portion was served; it was not nice and crisp. Glad to know the Local Oak has now been in business several years and is still thriving because it is one of the few places I find parking and can get a table while in the Bishop Arts area on a busy weekend evening.

Enjoyed a nice Father's Day Brunch at the Local Oak! We tried the candied bacon and the pimento cheese appetizers and they were sizable for a party of 4 - and quite tasty. My wife had the Mimosa and she liked the fact it was served in a Mason Jar. Food was on par and the prices reasonable. My son loved the biscuit and brisket brunch item. Super friendly service and the ambience was great with an acoustic guitar player. My wife said the restaurant was "super cute" and she has good tastes. The parking was very easy in the lot next door. We are planning to go back again in the near future for drinks and dinner.

We had four in our party on a rainy Tuesday in the Bishop Arts District. The service was really good. The drinks were good as well. I had enchiladas - loved them! All in all a very nice experience. I notice they also have a fun "painting class" which meets there as well.

A great place in a nice area where many of the Bishop Arts District's residents like to visit. The staff is very friendly with Josh/Javi going out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The drinks are reasonably priced ($3.50 domestics) with an atmosphere that is can't be beat!

Good for lunch or brunch. A bit of eclectic fusion of Mexican with Dallas hip cuisine. Fair selection of brew but if you ask for something like you may end up with a can of PBR Lite. Nice atmosphere, outdoor seating, raised seating (drinks only) in courtyard in retro metal chairs too. Sunday afternoon visit offered live music ( female troubadour). Fun fast and reasonable.

This place was such a great little find. It had a cool vibe and we loved the wishing tree out front. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. We had the chips& queso, chicken strips with fry mix and the chicken fried steak & eggs - everything was so good. $5 mason jar mimosas for brunch is a great deal as well. Great location right out in front of the bishop arts dart stop. Service was a bit slow, but overall a great experience. Can definitely recommend for the food.

Very eclectic menu. I tried the meatloaf with chili sauce and it was good. The highlight for me was the drinks! Try The Local Oak, named after the restaurant. So amazing!

This place in an up and coming neighborhood. The staff are friendly and laid back. I don't drink beer but they had a nice selection of mixed drinks and a decent wine list. I may be biased because my favourite Cab was on the list. My coworkers and I did a happy hr and on this particular day there was a painting class happening in the back. The food is a nice twist of your typical bar food. You have to try the candied bacon ... and loved the grill cheese BLT

A Shine Bock, some candied bacon and some macaroni and cheese.... YUMMY local place filled with local charm

This was the first stop on a three stop tour. Local Oak was the appetizer stop. Awesome food! The candied bacon - oh, incredible!! The staff were super nice. Would love to come back to same a full meal. Great Magarita!

I discovered this place a few years ago and it never disappoints. Bar service is fantastic, with a wide selection of local craft beers and unique mixed cocktails. A nice barside family table is great for a larger group. Some stellar food items, including the bucket of love (candied bacon), the chili, the spam sliders, and the short rib sandwich.

Heard about this Bishop Arts restaurant and went for Sunday brunch! Wow. Best egg dishes ever, as well as bucket of bacon! Got to get this! Bloody Mary's are amazing as well as service! Cute decor, small patio and just a great time. You should try it. Going back for the great beer selection that looks outstanding! Specials of the day and even steak night!

We enjoyed a great evening of food and drinks. We started out with drinks..favorites were the Bloody Mary and Moscow Mules. The "bucket of love" aka candied bacon was fantastic and so was the old fashion pimento cheese appetizer. The chicken tenders rolled in Captain Crunch with the spicy dip was surprisingly good. Mom's meatloaf was voted the top entrée but not far behind was the open faced chicken caprese sandwich. The TLO burger and the grilled cheese were also good. We plan on coming soon to the Sat. brunch as well as a night during the week to enjoy one of the specials. WARNING we will return!!

The hamburgers at this place are delicious. For appetizers we had the maple bacon. It was sweet, salty, crunchy: just unbelievable. I could have eaten the entire thing as an entree. The service was friendly, easy going, accurate, informative and right on time. We really enjoyed the experience and look forward to going again.

Welcoming, clean & great drinks! Hillary's smile had me at Hello, Javi's dimples makes me wanna ask for a hug and head honcho Felix will take care of you rain or shine. Go, go, go! U won't regret. SJM

This is a great restaurant... the food is always fabulous, the prices are very fair and the owners always aim to make it an outstanding experience. If you are looking for truly Americana type comfort foods or more of a Texmex meal this is the place for you. The hatch green Chile enchiladas or the Huevos Verdes are my go to's. They have temporarily limited their menu due to COVID, which we applaud as everything is made from scratch everyday in house... So please give it a whirl and BTW there is plenty of parking designated just for TLO giving them a clear advantage of convenience. Great food, Great prices, Great people, Great atmosphere... and parking to boot, need I say more?

This is billed as a local hangout, but we saw no evidence of that at lunchtime. They serve really good sandwiches that are just a tad different than your normal bar food fare. It's got a neighborhood bar vibe with a few interesting touches; we liked the wine glass chandelier.

Loved their chicken tenders when they were open. The drinks were great and they rocked at supporting local causes.

My kids, who are 30-somethings and more urbane than I, discovered this place in Dallas' Oak Cliff "Bishop Arts District" which features some heavy-hitter restaurants and bars near downtown. A Friday night would show me yet another trendy crowded warehouse. Surprise! This is a find right at W. Davis and Zang, five minutes from our downtown home; located in a very nicely salvaged wood/brick warehouse, it's small, intimate and pretty well-lit both daytime and evenings. A nice little sidewalk courtyard when it's nice; warm inside when it's hotttt. A small but energetic staff teams up to personally encourage you to try New Things. Fortunately for us oldsters, New is a twist on the Familiar: an appetizer of candied bacon (yes, you read that right); a cheesy amalgam of waffle, sweet potato and home fries are some early winners. Add crispy fish bites (jalapeno!); a delicious Taos-ian chicken-fried steak doused with Hatch chili sauce. The menu items are expanding but chef Paul Delgado and team (with his mother's recipes, no less) are keepin' it simple. Speaking of which, when was the last time you had a room-temperature, ice-less generous Old Fashioned? No, didn't think so. Handcrafted drinks, including the Margarita Mule (acclaimed by our resident taster as 'decent', which is kick-butt in most English), that Old Fashioned and several other lovely beverages are coupled with kid-friendly drinks as well and really good tea. Occupancy, per the sign, is 98. That's like having a condo without too many neighbors: all services focus on You, lol. We even brought several 2-to-5 year olds and it was very enjoyable. Miss Hillary made us feel we were in our own noisy kitchen, yet other tables had enough space to enjoy their meals. This is definitely on the 'discovery path' for Dallasites, so enjoy the room while it lasts... it won't. (We got a FB post from the very clever Robin Roberts the very next morning, at brunch there without us!) Very reasonable prices for the quality provided (4 of us ate and drank well for under $100) and the attention! Oh my! Did we mention we were able to park? If your'e a Dallasite, you'll appreciate that as much as the food.

We've been here several times including lunch and dinner. It has an unimpressive exterior, and one might be inclined to pass it up. It's definitely worth the stop. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The menu has a wide variety of offerings, as well as the bar. Try the "Bucket of Love"...it's candied bacon, and should be on the controlled substances list. I can feel my cholesterol go up just thinking about it. It's that good. We like it here, and go back often.

Very comfortable restaurant with marvelous food and drinks. Can't complain about the price either. Will go back many times.

We are glad they opened up for dine-in after COVID shut-down. Their food is really solid. Even with the limited menu all the hits are there----really good tex-mex fare, believe it or not. A tasty cobb salad. Sadly, bucket of love (sweet/spicy bacon strips) is only offered at brunch for now. We went on Wednesday for $3 wells, $5 drafts; enchilada specials (with hatch chili yummm), queso and salsa (two orders of this it was THAT good), and a great turkey burger. Get in here if you're in the area. They have plenty of parking and free valet so what's stopping you? Attentive staff, to boot.

Really enjoyed our dinner at Local Oak, it was very quiet as it was early evening. Loved the music they had playing. Started out with Bucket of Bacon, OH MY Gosh, it was amazing. I had the meatloaf which I enjoyed, my husband had the Spam sliders and raved about them. Nice local feel, just on the outskirts of Bishop Arts. Give it a try.

Stopped here for a late lunch to show my sister and brother in law a great time.... my husband and I love the Bishop Arts section of Dallas and this was a welcomed retreat! We were seated at our table and was warmly welcomed by our waiter and bartender! I ordered a streetcar margarita and it was delish! My husband and sister n brother in law ordered paloma de vida! Ordered an order of their trash fries and a bucket of love ( bacon and it was so good )! I ordered a frito pie for my entree, husband ordered the Texas sliders with my sister ordering the taco plate and brother in law ordering the fish tacos! For desert we shared a brownie! Definitely a place worth checking out!

The Local Oak never disappoints- even with only patio or take out dining available it is such a great spot! Food is consistently delicious - we had a burger and fish tonight - the mimosa was delightfully refreshing, and the patio was breezy, casual, and fun. They do a great job of adhering to all the crazy covid guidelines, but don’t lessen their warm friendly ambiance. Owner Ally was there to greet and check in with guests, a consummate hostess and restaurateur! Please skip all those boring chain eateries and enjoy The Local Oak!

Thanks to "The Local Oak" my faith in food around these here parts has been restored. With ample parking, a cool outdoor area (once the weather improves), and an even cooler interior, this place is a no hassle establishment you must try. The food, drink, and service are just as pleasant as the previously listed factors so give it a shot and read more to learn of my personal experience. Upon entering the restaurant the actual owner of the place greeted me and my lady friend. We sat at the bar and were quickly provided water and menus. I requested a bloody mary and she got a mimosa, both were beyond satisfactory and not what you would typically expect for $5. Dallas is pretty consistent on providing over priced under poured adult beverages but we got the opposite here. I even had a delicious jalapeño in my bloody which added just enough kick to counter the delicious amount of vodka poured. The Misses got juevos verdes and I was a basic B and got the grilled chicken sandwich. Just looking at her dish I was both pleased and disappointed because it looked and smelled AMAZING but I was disappointed because I simply wasn't hungry enough to take on such a sum of food. The portions are heavy which is phenomenal because lets be honest, you never really want to wish you'd been served more. My sandwich, despite its simplicity, was top notch. The aioli complimented the melted cheese which bled into the sour dough bread perfectly adding a soft yet perfect crunch when bit into. The raw ted onion, tomato, and lettuce was perfect. I was lucky enough to dip my bites into the juevos verdes for just another lovely POP of flavor. Food - Great Drinks - Great Ambience/Setting - Great Service - Great Overall - Great Don't judge me for not giving five stars, this is a superior reliable classic place to eat but not an OMG I will live here and eat here every single day. Hands down, the place is great and you should go the next time you want a break from the kitchen, have a hot date, or have friends and or family in town and don't want to deal with the typical oak cliff, uptown, lower greenville crowds and noise. Bravo @thelocaloak, I'll be seeing you soon.

On our way to eat at another place and came across this gem. We had the brisket and biscuits, chicken fried steak and ranchero dish along with the candied bacon and Bloody Mary's, two ways. Everything was so good! That bacon is the perfect start. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It's a big dining area and the tables are spaced appropriately so you don't get a lot of outside conversation. Nice big bar serving an array of beers and drinks. I don't care for bloody Mary's but these were really good and they had a nice spicy finish. We will definitely be back for dinner. Reasonably priced for delicious and upscale food.

They have sliders with spam and pineapple with a kick! Sounds weird I know, but step out of your comfort zone (and bad memories) and try it. This dish is original and tasty! My family also loves the candied bacon! How do you go wrong with candied bacon??
My Favorite
Hits the spot every time - the service is always sooo welcoming and a delight to chat with. Felix the GM will make you feel VIP. Then Javier and Hillary come up behind him and make you feel even more VIP. The Moscow mule is to die for ... well the rest if history. Go !
