It reminds me of a speakeasy!

By CookingMama1 |

I cannot say enough good things about this place! I live in Simi Valley and will make the drive to go to Sheman Oaks. It is my favorite pub hands down! Their salt and vinegar chips are the best...they give you a mini spray bottle with malt vinegar so you can control the sourness! Brilliant!!! You have to have their St.Germain cocktail! And the Peasant Burger with the fried egg on top! Service is great! And there is a back room for larger parties! This is a definite must try!!!

Wow. How could it be THIS bad???

By EzMotownB |

Wednesday night. Ignored for 15 min.. Finally got the attention of a waitress. “Do you need something?” RUFKM?? Yeah we need you to do your job. 20 minutes later our food arrives. Waitress comes back in another 20 minutes to see if we wanted any more drinks. No, we just want to leave, thanks. How about a check? You guessed it... 20 minutes later. Luckily I had cash. We might still be waiting if she had to run a card... Total was $48.75. I left a $50 bill and we walked out. My wife thinks we should wait for the change just on principle. Nah, a 3% tip speaks louder than none at all. And I’m usually at 25%. Wow have they gone down hill. Food was ok, not great. Wife’s wine was very good.

Great, fresh food. Excellent value!

By Erica H |

My husband and I are vegetarians, and this menu offered plenty of choices for us and for my sister and brother-in-law who are carnivores. The service was great, the portions were on the larger side, and the food was fresh and tasty! Perhaps the biggest surprise was the very reasonable pricing, especially for LA.

One of my favorite local spots

By karula76 |

I live nearby and whenever I don't feel like driving into the city or just meeting up with friends, this is a go to spot. Good street parking and valet service available for only $3. Great vibe, nice decor, great cocktails and beer list, delicious food. I'm actually celebrating my birthday there! Highly recommend it!

People watching restaurant

By 1momo1 |

We wanted to try something new with our friends and heard about this place, so we decided to try it out. We were lucky to get that last available table for four people. The restaurant has a huge bar area and it was very lively. It appears to draw a younger crowd....not many seniors around. Since it was our first time, I asked the waitress what she recommended and went along with her suggestion of short ribs. One of our friends had the fish and chips and our wives shared a salad and the tuna tartar. They enjoyed their meals....salad being large enough for two to share, etc., but unfortunately I found my ribs to be on the bland side. Their prices seem very fair, service was very good and I would certainly go back, but try something else on their menu.

Always busy but good crowd

By Ticket2Venture |

This place is always busy which means good food but they do not have a happy hour. I always enjoy sitting at the big bar area but there is enough tables in case you do not have a reservations. The drinks are made well and my friends and I always share appetizers and food like Tapas style. Good place to go after work.

Nice Pub!

By Mamjensen |

We tried Tthe Local Peasant for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. The service was good. The atmosphere was kind of rustic and fun. They had a good list of beers on draft. We liked the food too, it was very good. Their cocktail list was interesting as well.

Hidden door - Hidden Jewel

By Michael P |

Hidden door on Ventura Blvd - Hidden Jewel / Pub life is hopping. great beers, great bar- great BIG Buzz. Very active for a Wednesday night in Sherman Oaks. Food was outstanding - Fish and Chips were perfect, Salmon was outstanding - Salad was just right. The menu has it all and a great burger & onion rings. Cobbler ala mode was sweet warm fruit and tasty. Wine corkage is $20 which is understandable in a pub with a great bar. They have 12 different Irish whiskeys and 20 scotch choices. Park on the street as valet is $6 or use UBER if you stay too long. $50 - $65 per person with a few beers. Its a winner so Go Go Go

Daughter's 15 birthday

Our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Go early... Appropriate for the whole family! Later it's an awesome pub scene. The Sunday Bloody Mary bar. Mind blown!

Great drinks, good atmosphere, but loud

By dklany |

This is one of those hip watering holes one would usually find in a hipster part of town. But this is not your father's Sherman Oaks. The place is cool, the drinks are original and it has a fun vibe. If you are eating, you can reserve or get a table. If you just want to drink, it is often hard to find a chair or stool. The only real negative is that it is loud. But that is part of the fun of a bar.

Cool bar, fun and open, Ok Food

By dbartoletti |

Go to the LP often and enjoy the atmosphere and vibe in the bar. The staff is fun and hip and make the place feel very welcoming. The big windows in the front are opened during the warm weather and give the place a great open feel. They have a good menu of beers on tap an in bottle and a great scotch and spirits selection. If I would say anything negative, it is that the food is only so-so. The presentation and delivery of the food is very nice but the food itself is more pleasing to the eye than the palate. I have eaten there numerous times and always seem to walk away just a bit disappointed. I think the bar would be a grand slam if they redid the menu and changed it up a bit or got a new chef who can transform the visual into great tasting.

Great food and beer!

By Nari L |

This place is awesome! Great food and awesome beer selections! Their fries are to die for as well as the dipping sauce that comes with it. I'll def be back here for some good food and beer. So glad there's a place like this in the valley!

Truly Delicious

By RabbiWendy |

I usually reserve 5-star reviews for white tablecloth restaurants, but this place deserves high praise. The space is huge, even cavernous, with an enormous tv, seemingly endless, stone-topped bar, and plenty of seating. Service was attentive and helpful. The menu is concise, mostly sandwiches, salads, fried things, and bar snacks. I had the edamame salad - colorful, fresh, tasty, good combination of flavors. My entree of salmon over warm lentils with winter squash was an exclamation of yum in every bite. My husband had the skirt steak with broccolini instead of fries, which he enjoyed very much. Staff was very accommodating of our gluten free needs. The only comfortable seating is in the booths, which are for large parties. The other chairs and benches are quite hard - you might want to bring a small pillow. I don't know how I missed this place right in my neighborhood for 3 years!!! Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely eat here again.

The whole menu is terrific.

By eddsan45 |

Great atmosphere, and the appetizers are delicious. Try the mussels . Roasted wild salmon is one of my favorites. Dozens of unusual beers to choose from. Staff are helpful and fast.

Yikes!

By M648 |

I was meeting my friends to celebrate my birthday. We decided on the local peasant as it was close to my home. I parked in the back and started to walk into the restaurant and a man stumbled out of the restaurant back door blowing his nose onto the ground. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced. It probably got in my boots and In complete disbelief. I entered the restaurant and told the hostess. She relayed the horrific story to the manager and the manager apologized . My main concern was that he wash his hands... My friends arrived and we ordered brunch. You would have thought that the manager would have sent over a dessert or appetizer for the appalling behavior of their employee but nothing. Make sure employees wash their hands!

A great go-to

By Kate O |

I like coming to Local. It's always packed with (sorry) locals for a reason. They do things really well. The food is yummy (though I typically just go for drinks). The brunch there is pretty stellar, also they have a Sunday Bloody Mary Bar which is my absolute FAVORITE. The bartenders are GREAT. Sometimes I feel like people aren't open to chatting with anyone other that the people they're with, which is fine, but I love places where you can strike up conversations with randos! It's probably one of the best bars in Sherman Oaks though!

Great after work

By Andrew B |

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Great beer. Definitely have the fried olives off the appetizer menu.

Who says you have to "go over the hill" to get great drinks and food?

By christineess |

Met a friend for drinks and dinner - great salads, chic drinks and great ambience. Had the kale salad, friend had the chopped salad - we loved both. But, the onion rings were super delish. We are looking forward to coming back again to try other menu items.

Very hip, fun, trendy.

By Kerensh |

Great food, good service, fun atmosphere. Recommend for fun night out & people watching. The beef short ribs are to die for. In addition the pretzel is a perfect partner to your drink;)

Nice selection of bar food and drinks

By I-Lin L |

Nice place for happy hour after work! Nice selection of bar food and drinks. Not so cheap, but the portions were decent for what you pay for. I didn't like my sangria that much though; it had a bit of a weird chemically sweet taste. But the food was pretty yummy. And my coworkers said the beer was good--although I haven't tried it myself yet. Parking is valet only in the lot for $4. It was also a bit difficult to find this place from the street, as I didn't see a clearly marked sign. Just looked like an open bar with black framing.

The servers need trained

By Pegi D |

We were forgot about and the food was only okay. Absolutely nothing special. No one seemed to care aboutour table. We were treated with indifference. We will not be back.

Terrific tasting food, great selection of draft beers

By SingaporeBms |

Came here for a family dinner and we all rolled out completely satisfied with our meals. Our meals ranged from the short ribs, fish & chips, salmon and lobster roll. The last one is available on Monday.

Great food, ambiance, and drinks

By Emily G |

I cannot say enough about how much my boyfriend and I enjoyed our meal at The Local Peasant! The cocktail and beer selection was diverse (I got the St. Germain highly recommend). We ordered the salmon entree and crab cakes, both were extremely delicious. If you like fish the salmon entree is a must try, the jalapeño mashed potatoes were amazing! I will say that I wouldn't recommend bringing children to this restaurant, the menu caters to a more adult palate.

Lively atmosphere with great food

By jwalk327 |

Visited this restaurant over the Memorial Day weekend and it was jammed on a Saturday night. Sat at the bar and had great service from the bartenders. Very accommodating and offered great suggestions for our lite dining requests. The food was all very fresh, the heirloom tomato and beet sales was delicious and the white pizza was very good. We also took the bartenders recommendation to try the homemade raspberry jelly donuts that came to us hot from the deep fryer and were every bit as delicious as described.

The local HEAVEN!

By Alek |

Happened to find this amazing place on google or yelp. The moment you walk in, you know you have entered something special. So nice to go to a place in the valley and feel hip and eat delicious food. Everything in Hollywood is with pretentious people and the food ain't better. This is very gastropubby. Food rocks. Muscles were amazing. Pork and melon appetizer is out of this world. They specialize in local food, local wine, local beer, local, people, and local everything. This is off their phone message. Service, ambiance, manager, and everything else rocks. Been here 3 times in the last month and don't think i'll stop. I keep bringing people here and they all love it.

Decent food, sports bar ambience

By DrRobertRehovot |

Two big screens with fox sports, Extra cold AC on a pleasant night and decent music. The burger was fine as was the chili. Outstanding onion rings. I couldn't find any standard beers - I guess that was a statement... Nothing special to say.

Great review

By harilenn |

This is a review of the restaurant in Sherman Oaks. This is an excellent gastropub. I like the menu. we did order a large number of dishes which were all excellent but accolades go to the glazed short-ribs and the Tuna tartar, both of which were truly outstanding. the tomato bisque/grilled cheese combo was also delicious I also had one of the best Moscow Mules ever. Great food, great venue.

Great food and drinks.

By Kelly G |

This place has a great atmosphere where you can feel comfortable and have a good time. The food and drinks are delicious. I can't ever go with out getting their deviled eggs and gourmet pretzel with white chocolate peanut butter dipping sauce. The staff is friendly and the music is fun. I've been making my way through the menu, and everything is consistently outstanding.

A much-needed gastro-pub in our neighborhood.

By Robin7333 |

The Local Peasant is located at Hazeltine and Ventura, across from Ralph's. I mention this because it may be difficult to find. I have eaten here twice in the past two weeks. My first meal was short ribs. They were served on top of a mashed squash. The ribs were cooked to perfection, and I prefer the squash over the mashed potatoes. They will substitute potatoes if that's your preference. The meat was tender and could be cut with a fork. We had the chocolate-bread pudding for dessert. Wow!" Amazing bread pudding served in its own individual super-hot dish, with a whiskey sauce on the side. Last night everyone in our party ordered fish and chips, and they were more-than-happy with the beautifully prepared entree. I had a kobe hamburger with blue cheese and avocado. This may have been the best hamburger of my life. They offered a special bitter salad made of belgium endive, arugula and greens topped with goat cheese and served with a roasted tomato and beer dressing. This was served fresh and beautifully plated. They have a large selection of beers and wines. The restaurant is quite casual in that there are no tablecloths or fancy dishes. It's truly a gastro-pub experience. Around the bar area are several large screen TV sets, so we didn't miss much of the Dodger game. The service is friendly and truly accommodating to making changes to better suit a person's taste or needs. It's a friendly neighborhood pub with people of all ages seeming to have a wonderful time.

Not as great as the lines outside would have you believe.

By Karyn W |

I went on a Monday evening. Not busy, yet they put all the patrons--my friend and I, a party of 3, and a family with young children in the front all next to each other. Ok, I thought, the food will be good and it will be all worth it. It was 6pm, and when my friend, with food allergies, asked if she could have a sandwich minus one ingredient was told they were all prepped for the evening and could not be changed, we thought. OK, but could you ask anyway? Indeed the chef was quite willing to please. Food was eh. Fries a little underdone (no wonder my friend who had been before asked for hers to be extra done...). But here is the reason I will not go back. She did not finish her soup and asked for a container for it. She was told there were no to go containers for soup. Ok, we thought, good to know. but then....the wait person brought one. AND IT WAS NOT ONLY WET, as in just washed, BUT HAD THAT "GREASY LIKE MICROWAVED PASTA SAUCE" FILM ON IT! Really??? Nope...never going back. Ever.

Great Date Spot, Semi Hidden Gem

By Alex V |

This was a perfect Sunday date spot. I was surprised by the food and drinks. We went in with the intention of ordering a drink and ended up ordering three drinks and some food. It was not busy on a Sunday afternoon but I can imagine it gets hectic on most weekends. Definately worth a visit or two. I will be returning to try the rest of the food and drinks.

My new favorite neighborhood gastropub. Sophisticated and tastey food, from bar snacks to burgers and pizza to short ribs and sa

By Steven K |

This is my new favorite neighborhood joint. Really great food and beer in a fun atmosphere. Front room has the bar, back room has a huge projection TV for sports (though this is no sports bar). Menu standouts include an amazing portobello sandwich, fish and chips, mussels, burgers, short ribs and salmon. And amazing desserts, too.

A Good Experience

By mayorpiloto |

Overall, we had a very nice experience at this venue. Positives: We had the chicken sandwich and roasted salmon. The food was food, but the chicken was overcooked. Salmon was excellent. Staff was very friendly and the service timely in spite of the fact it was a Friday night and the restaurant was very busy. Slight negative: Respectfully suggest that if you have a small party and want to have a good conservation, consider sitting in the patio. It’s much quieter than inside during busy hours. The outdoor heaters are a plus this time of year (late April). Also, as with most downtown venues in SoCal, parking is a challenge. You might have to walk a bit to the restaurant. Overall: we will go the The Local Pheasant-Sherman Oaks again.

WHat a great place to start our holiday...

By Amanda P |

We arrived in LA on a Saturday afternoon, after a very long journey from India. Our wonderful hosts decided this would be a great "first night" dining place and they were so right. Even though it was a Saturday night, and the place was full, it did not seem full nor were we rushed to finish. The food was delicious, the cider went down well and the staff were incredibly helpful and efficient. There were six of us and we ordered a variety of food - veg and non veg and all was delicious and flavourful as well as being nicely presented. The ingredients are locally sourced and the meat was tender and tasty, the veggies good and then fries were excellent (and not of the Macdonalds variety either!!!) Even the sauces - ketchup and a spicy mayo - worked well. What a great way to start our trip to LA!!!

Poor Management and Staff

By Dee J |

My friends and I made the unfortunate decision to try a beer at this location after eating dinner at another establishment. The staff lack knowledge in answering simple restaurant questions, the management lacks training in how to resolve situations, and the "customer is always right" saying does not matter. I witnessed my friend get physically assaulted by one of the employees (due to us questioning the no hat policy), and when the police were called (by us) the video suddenly could not work and they could not remember the passwords. The integrity of this company was compromised by this employee and all they did was protect the "wrong." I highly recommend finding another pub, this could be you!

Great Local place

By frank k |

Introduced by some friends and have been going back ever since. Food is always perfect, great wine and drinks, always an up beat staff. I try to bring out of town guests here all the time

Good beer and food, shouldn't miss!!

By cyw |

Came here on a recommendation, it was great. We were early, so it wasn't too crowded. Beer selection is good, I always like to try local beers when I travel, and they had them. Listened to my server on what to get, and he did not steer me wrong. Food was good, had the short ribs with squash, delish!

Great atmosphere and food

By Lululemon76 |

I went here recently for a large group (10 people) reunion. The food was great and they have a good drink list. They can accommodate large groups. I had the short ribs, which were good, but needed a bit more salt. The deserts were awesome -- home made jelly donuts and the chocolate bread pudding were amazing! I highly recommend this place to meet up with friends.

The place to go for excellent, locally-sourced food

By John G |

I appreciate local restaurants, as opposed to chain restaurants, that use the food from the area it is located in - the Local Peasant fits that exactly. My dinner companion and I both ate vegetarian dishes and enjoyed them immensely. Fine service from knowledgable wait staff & reasonably priced. It is on the noisy side as it is a place where young adults meet-up.

Great food and service

By Lisa M |

Have been here a few times. Food is really good. I highly recommend the Marinated Olives even if just coming here for a drink. Casual. Always busy

No Happy Hour:(

By Malia R |

Looking for a good time after a hard day's work? Well, they don't offer happy hour here -unfortunately- and you feel awkward even asking and you get an even snarkier, "we don't do happy hour here" as the response. Craft cocktails a total bust, small and tasted like water and service at the bar just as lackluster. Hard to find due to no sign (does that make it feel exclusive, um no, just frustrating.) Place was half empty on an early Friday evening and after paying the bill we headed to The Sherman, On the Thirty and Mr. Furleys who totally made up for this experience. We probably won't come back for the food since service was so blech and uninviting.

Good atmosphere but huge portions

By Wendy A |

This place is trying to be a like a pub I think. It has a good friendly atmosphere and if it were full, it would be very noisy. It’s got an extensive menu. I chose the chicken buttermilk sandwich which was great but a massive portion and I could only eat half. My dining companions all enjoyed their meals from salmon to burgers. Would definitely return.

Great Bar/Restaurant

By Hags_10 |

Had a terrific family brunch. Great food selection and great drinks. they have a Bloody Mary bar that was pretty cool and nice craft beer selection. My grandchildren loved the place.

Must go in Sherman Oaks

By 269briannac |

Great décor, great service - menu and beer offerings live up to the name. The back room feels a little cut off, so if you have a large group call in advance for a reservation and request the main area, the bar stools near the entrance are the best with a group of friends to get up and move around.

Loved it

By GeeRuss |

Have eaten here twice in the last month. Love the vibe of this place. I have the fish and chips the first time and really enjoyed it. The fish was light and not greasy. The fries were cut a little thick for me but they were good. My friends had the peasant burger with onion rings. The burger was amazing and the onions ring delish... Last night went for appetizers with a friend. Love, love, loved everything. The bacon and egg were indescribable, the cheese plate perfect and the pork belly with watermelon different but very tasty.

Excellent Meal and good selection of beers

By SeeingSites |

I stumbled on this place (the Woodland Hills one) while there for work last year and sought it out when I was on another visit recently. Excellent food with the menu variety you'd expect at a gastropub. The burger was one of the better ones I've every had. Cocktails are delicious; beer selection is large. I like the atmosphere here...it feels kind of upscale but yet casual and cozy at the same time. Nice warm vibe. I brought several co-workers there and they all seemed to really enjoy it.

Excellent Pub type atmosphere.

By Stephen P |

My wife and I went here with our nephew and niece (who recommended it) for an evening meal. All ingredients are sourced locally and cooked fresh. We all opted for the fish and chips which were really good. Great locally brewed draught beers and ciders plus wide range of Californian wines. Friendly service and good atmosphere.

Good place to find emerging LA brews

By Easong |

I don't live in the LA area but was in for a weekend and looking for a pub with a good rotating tap list of local brews. Wandered in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, found a seat easily at the bar. There were plenty of tables available too. The barkeeps were helpful in bringing me up to speed on the latest breweries they liked in the exploding LA craft beer scene -- Mumford, Highland Park, Noble, etc. Didn't sample the food but looked like worthy fare. Will be back next time I'm in town.

Great spot, great food!

By Andrea S |

I am just in town for the weekend and wanted to hit a trendy gastropub. This place fit the bill! It has awesome decor, is very open and well lit, the menu is varied and everything we had was delicious! We got the pretzel with a side of cheese to start. The mustard that I wasn't even interested in was the best I have ever had! I had the portobello burger and it was impeccable. My husband had the braised short ribs. He liked them, but thought they just needed some more salt. Service was great, all around good spot to meet friends or go on a date.

Fun vibe

By MrsRAZRHWK |

Enjoyed the tequila cocktail with the cucumber as well as the EL DIABLO (rum, muddled blackberry and jalapeno) It's got a kick for sure. The crab salad was refreshing and tasty. Ordered the mussels, tomato based wine broth was delicious. The mussels were on small side and many not opened which was disappointing. Service was attentive and friendly. Casual environment with good looking beer selection.

No Peasant Food Here

By 385eileenz |

First time here for a birthday celebration with 13 family members. Open restaurant with open windows to the busy Ventura Blvd. Wooden booths surrounding the perimeter inside, no padding on inside seats with a large bar area near the front middle of the restaurant and as expected, it is a loud noisy restaurant. Raised roof with exposed beams, no tablecloths but they do set ups with fabric napkins instead of paper napkins.(I like that!) Salads well liked by repeat family member customers, and two of us ordered the Impossible Vegan burger which was the best I have had since the inside wasn't mushy and tasted more like a burger than other vegan burgers in the past 8 mos since becoming Vegan. Their potato crisps (aka potato chips) come in a basket with a small spray bottles of vinegar and a small papercup side of a special aioli sauce for dipping. Their onion rings although delicious left greasy fingers by all. Kids liked the regular Mac n Cheese and the four sliders option was also liked by another diner. Waitresses were spot on, and bar tenders were friendly, available and with good recommendations for the menu, both for happy hour and dinner menu. Younger crowd (20-35 yr olds) but on a Friday night between 6-8:30 there were few if any tables not yet filled. Music in background. Waitress took credit cards of all who wanted separate checks and she kept track of which family members ordered what. Better than average- more like a B grade in high school!

Peasant Paring Down?

By Econouvelle |

My husband and I have always been able to find a seat at the expansive bar at Local Peasant. We stopped in for drinks and appetizers during happy hour recently. I remember being wowed by appetizers I've had in the past - in particular the crab cakes. This time I tried the ahi tostada. It was a fairly small appetizer, extremely salty, with minuscule amounts of avocado (maybe two pieces of 1/8 of an inch or less). My husband's sliders turned out to be mini sliders. He wasn't too impressed. The two large olives in his martini meant less gin in the glass. And my cocktail, while tasty, was served in a rather small glass. Maybe the appetizers would have been more generous on the regular menu, but my overall impression was that Local Peasant was skimping.

Excellent food

By Romeo909 |

Very casual atmosphere but great food. It is a bit pricey for the location and casual dining experience. Excellent beer selection. Try their IPA's. Will return again, no doubt.

Excellent Food and Drinks!

By magicmard |

I've been to this local gastro-pub several times now, and every time, I've enjoyed great drinks, wonderful food, and excellent service. The Sherman Oaks location has no visible signs and looks much smaller from the outside. Inside, you will find a vibrant crowd and good music. I love their Manhattan and Old Fashioned cocktails as well as craft beers. For food, try Mamma's Meatballs, Olives, and skirt steak.

loved it

By checkinginplease |

Had a great meal at the Local Peasant last week. The beer was fantastic, loved the great selection. Had the shrimp and grits which was, according to the server, new to the menu. It was delicious. My friends had the fish 'n chips, a favorite of theirs. I would highly recommend this place.

Great drinks! Great atmosphere! Great food!

By H+F |

Love the bar scene here....awesome cocktails, and good selection of beer and wine! When the windows are open, you can sit back, relax and have a great drink and a delicious meal with friends. I love the Valley and I love The Local Peasant!

Good Pub Experience

By steved248 |

Visited with 6 friends. Service was excellent. Ambience was noisy but appropriate for the setting. Food was very tasty and drinks were excellent. Not a place for an intimate date but very good for friends out for a good time.

still around after so many years..

By dorkiemiche |

not a bad gastropub, not the best. i cant rave about their food. for me it is convenient being a walk away, but it is always packed. drinks are okay, they have a large beer menu. their bread pudding is one of my favorite things to eat.

Local Spot , Super Fun Atmosphere

By James P. |

Another last minute flyby, fortunate to only wait 10 minutes for a table. We were asked if we were here for dinner (And we were) Suddenly one of the "Reserved" signs was lifted from a table and we were sat . Marcos was our server and was more than patient as we ordered a drink and mulled the menu, again and again ! We eventually ordered a selection of appetizers and entrees and were happy with everything, especially not feeling rushed ! Front of the place can be drafty and you might get sat at a communal table , back room has a bit more intimacy and slightly less active.

Great service!

By ILoveFoodComa |

Very vibrant bar scene, crowded but fun! Great place to hang out in the neighborhood. The Service: Very efficient. All the staffs are super friendly. Many staffs are on duty. Food is served quickly. Excellent service! The Food: Wide varieties of beer & wine selections! Bartenders are very knowledgeable and give great recommendation. Mama's Meatball - 3 big meatball, freshly made mariana sauce. Totally make full use of those bread to clean up the bowl! Yummm Mac & Cheese - It is absolutely cheesy enough! They add some bacon, great crunchy texture to go with the creamy sauce. Love it~

Great Food!

By Anna U |

We went for Brunch and the food was delicious! Service was great, portions are big! I got the Chicken Chilaquiles and they were delicious the tortilla chips were crispy, I love the pickle onions it gives it a tangy flavor. I wasn't feeling well and the server kept checking on us. overall great experience!

Very happy to have this restaurant in neighborhood

By LostAngeles |

We went to the restaurant on Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills several times and we keep going back. Last time went with one of our best friends who is in restaurant management business for many years and let him pick the food selections then shared all dishes. We had crispy pork belly (very good, i keep remembering them so often!) mac & cheese (the truffle oil touch was perfect) rainbow heirloom salad (really good) crab cakes (good, need to remember to try them again, they were first gone from the plate) fish and chips (wonderful! wonderful!) white pizza (very tasty and happy combination) Wine bottled, Syrah Saddle Rock Malibu (it had to be local, right?) We went early and sat on the back room, at a long table which we enjoyed, as allows for making friends and getting a close peak at other dishes people next to us had :) Service was very prompt, friendly, professional. Several other times we went, sat at the bar and had beer and snacks, atmosphere was nice and the service always good. Place is fun for people watching and noticed when driving by, is pretty crowded at night. We never went late, mostly late afternoon, early dinner time. Parking is not the best, on the street never available and valet appeared very busy at times.

Worth the drive!

By melobeam |

The skinny: Parking- meters on the street Service- good, friendly Decor- comfy and open Coke factor- Mexican coke, in the bottle Food- so delicious We tried a lot of different items at this new place but the interactive salt and vinegar chips was my favorite. You have a spray bottle of malt vinegar that you use to flavor your chips. Novel and fun. The Mac and cheese balls were tasty too. Along with the pork belly appetizer, the crab cakes and the ahi tuna! Everyone was happy and well fed. We will be back to try the short ribs!

Great food

Relaxed Saturday night dinner for large group

By Kate S |

A group of 15 family and friends had a delicious dinner starting with delicious appetizers of olives (not too salty!), homemade potato chips, deviled eggs. I had the mussels, which were in a light tomato wine broth, and came with grilled sourdough bread. We topped off the meal with their to-die-for bread pudding, made with croissants and dark chocolate. With the meal, I had a nice local IPA--but there were several excellent beer and mixed drink options. Others at the dinner enjoyed burgers, and finally, there was a good selection of vegetarian/vegan options. Topping everything off, our waiter was excellent--the right mix of attentive without hovering. I will return when I go back out to the LA area.

Delicious dinner!

We went early in the evening with our family and had a very enjoyable dinner. Great service, delicious food and very reasonable prices. The mac n cheese is a must have, my 11 year old daughter raved about the cheeseburger "the best she has ever had" and we just had to have the homemade jelly doughnuts for dessert. Make sure you get an order of peanut butter dipping sauce on the side! This was our first night in LA and this meal will be hard to beat!!

One of My Favorite Places - Though Food Not Quite as Good This Time Around

By rickpoet |

I've been coming to The Local Peasant for years. I've had birthday celebrations, dinners, and french-fry destination events here. I like the atmosphere, choices as a vegetarian, and always friendly service, and can say unequivocally that they have the best thick French Fries on any side of the Mississippi. We move a bit further away and hadn't been in a while...so I was excited to return...the atmosphere was there, but the food and drink this time around were not quite what I had remembered. I started with a watermelon cocktail. With the main ingredient being watermelon, and simple syrup included, I was surprised at how not-at-all sweet this was. I had to send it back to sweeten it up some. It came back sweeter, but the watermelon flavor was not as present as I would have wanted it. The french fries - and I mean the thick ones, served criss-cross on the plate like lincoln logs were on point, and reason enough to visit this place. The grilled cheese may have changed since the last time I had it. It was served on ciabatta bread so it didn't have the kind of satisfying "non-end piece" grilled bread situation you kind of want out of a grilled cheese. The cheese mix in it was pretty good though. My son ordered the Beyond Burger and (blasphemy) the thinner fries. The fries were good but he (a teenager who lives for greasy foods and sugar) kept complaining that the burger was too greasy. My wife assembled her own meal as the website menu didn't quite match what the actual menu was...She had salmon, bok choy, and fries (the good ones). The Bok Choy and of course the fries were great. She said she'd had better salmon here before. Perhaps slightly overcooked. Our server was fantastic. Super nice. Like he was from Canada nice. (though he wasn't from Canada.) He even brought me a chocolate chunk bread pudding with a candle in it for my birthday. We devoured that. I like it here a lot and think it may have just been a slightly off night for the food. (Possible also because I had planned on ordering the cheese board which was no longer on the menu.)

Excellent Food

I had a wonderful brunch dish - 2 sunny side up eggs, over chicken, roasted corn, onions, pickled carrots, black beans, guacamole, and sour cream - YUM YUM YUM. My friend had burgers so big they had to cut them and eat them with a fork, but they were saying yum while cutting them up!!

Good place for drinks and dinner with friends

Good food, an excellent whiskey and bourbon selection, and a great atmosphere, this place is wonderful for a night out with friends. Not ideal for children, but a nice date place, I always enjoy my drinks and appetizers at this up scale, prohibition style, local hang out.

What a great place

Lately I have been somewhat critical of restaurants in general recently so it was so refreshing to discover a place that counts both service and food quality as top priorites. From the fabulous house-made salt and vinegar crisps to the delicious grilled cheese sandwich with the tomato bisque, I was blown away. The beers are excellent and served at just the right temperature (take note Gordon Biersch!). For a midweek night it was buzzing which is great to see in this economic environment. Well done!

Good good and excellent service. Our server Hannna was wonderful in being very pleasant and quite honest.

Crab cakes were full of crab and hardly any bread filling you could actually see the real crab. What a wonderful treat!

Decent food, plenty of beer on tap, but a tad pricey

By Demosthenes88 |

Food was solid but at $10-13 for a burger, it could have been better. Ambience is nice with plenty of people about and the valet parking @ $4 in back is nice to have as there is limited street parking nearby. About 20 beers on tap which is nice, but the selection is a bit odd. Overall it is definitely a good place but good be excellent with a few tweaks to the beer slate and the food quality or prices.

Tasty bites & a varied bar at this low key neighborhood pub

By Megan |

I'd heard about The Local Peasant from friends, but had driven by many times without seeing it. There appears to be no sign. Once inside, it turned out to be a good lunch spot. The adventurous menu features an assortment of dishes, including parchment-wrapped halibut with ginger, thyme lemon and olive oil, Carlsbad mussels, ceviche, a portobello mushroom burger and Panko-herb crusted lamb chops. I had a tasty beet salad with heirloom tomatoes and burrata. My companion said his chopped salad was very good. It was quiet at lunch -- may be more of a night time spot. Unfortunately, not open for lunch on weekdays. Good name for a rather unassuming pub. They should put up a sign.

Great atmosphere and the food can't be beat

The menu at Local Peasant always makes me want to order one of everything. It's so hard to decide and each time we come here, we order something different and it is always delicious. The food is well above expectations and the atmosphere is fantastic. Don't be fooled by the location -- which is a few doors down from some sketchy places. You would never know you're on Ventura in Woodland Hills once you're inside TLP. The staff is always friendly and attentive as well. The Local Peasant is one of our absolute favorites.

Great bar and food

Love local peasant. Best gastro pub in the valley! Great beers on tap, wide variety of food, amazing starters and all around great environment. Love their service, very infrequent waits. Must do in LA!

Excellent cocktails and craft beers

Great selection of small plates and tasty entrees. We enjoyed the beer and cocktail selection and sampled a variety of different things during our time here. Would definitely recommend the fluffernutter dessert and the fried cheese balls.

Almost like Mom used to make

Love this hip restaurant across from Ralph's market with no signage. The service and food make it a great neighborhood restaurant. I LOVE the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. The only down side is that it's pretty noisy, but that's because of the crowd. Don't go with a headache, but go when you're hungry. Tons of micro-beers, but I'm a wine and Scotch guy.

Good for drinks and nibbles

By GodzillavsAliens |

We love going to this local favorite. The homemade chips (crisps) are great and the pork bellies sensational. The meal portions though are a little small so we usually just go for drinks and appetizers and skip the meal.

Fantastic Pub!

By MilkmaidTS |

Easy to miss since there's really no sign.....this is a fabulous place to meet friends and share some outrageous appetizers and drinks. The extensive beer list is great fun to read and try new tastes. There's also a very nice wine list, including keg wines by the glass from some top vineyards. I had fried olives for the first time....interesting....and the Peasant Minis...slow roasted pulled beef sliders with an assortment of sides to go with. French Fries were delivered cleverly stacked, too. Love this place! Reasonable, great service and lots of fun.

good food good beer good atmosphere

The food was excellent! Service was outstanding. Awesome beer selection. They played great music too. Valet was available since parking was scarce.

Dinner review

This was our first visit to the Local Peasant. We were not disappointed. All our choices were well prepared and delicious...from the heirloom tomato salad to the white pizza, sliders and...the onion rings. It has been a very long time since we have had onion rings, and these were extra-special!!!

Manhattans on TAP!!!

By Jason N |

In the LA area for work. this place has strong yelp status and here as well I see. It was convenient for a few of us to meet at for a drink and a bite. Parking is a challenge, but that is to be expected. They offer a nice selection of craft beers, but what excited me is that they have a Rye Whiskey Manhattan on tap! It was a step past the classic and just a delight. I appreciated that they use large ice cubes so we don't dilute the nectar too badly. I had the eggs and bacon app, a nice twist on deviled eggs, very tasty. I also enjoyed their fish and chips. The fish was outstanding, clean flavor and a nice breading. The chips were very thick but nice flavor. A quirky fun thing is the way you get to add the malt vinegar. This place was a great laid back atmosphere, I will repeat if I get the chance.

What a great find.

We went with our 2 adult sons. I had the Crab Cake Benedict. So good. Our server said she also loved it and had it that day. My husband had a kale salad. I don't remember what our son had but all 4 plates were clean at the end of the meal.

Great drinks, great food, great vibe!

By LAGirlWorldTraveler |

My friends and I celebrated my birthday here and we had a blast. The drinks were amazing and the food was even better. Ask for the pretzel with the white chocolate peanut butter sauce, you will die! Its amazing! Everyone was happy with what they ordered and I can't wait to go back and try something new on the menu!

Great food, cool atmosphere..

We stopped in for lunch. We tried the white pizza, peasant chili, salads, and the Peasant Burger. We all agreed the food was very good. Definitely worth a try when in the area. We spent about twentydaoolars per person without drinks.

Great for breakfast and brunch!

By TravelingDaisy01 |

We had the most amazing birthday brunch here this past weekend. With beautiful sunshine coming through the large windows, we were so relaxed and just wanted to order everything. We started off with the bloody mary cocktail bar (clean, well stocked and tasty), then on to the Burrata and heirloom tomato salad, deviled eggs with bacon, portobello mushroom burger and a caramel-apple-brie pancake stack for dessert. We were bold, we were happy, and most of all, stuffed. It was top notch, patient and friendly service served up with a great publike atmostphere. This will surely become a regular spot.

Gotta try their pork belly dish; best potato chips ever

By Barb T |

The Local Peasant has no restaurant name on the front, it is all word of mouth. Located in non-descript building with no name. Get there on off-hours, it is that busy. Tried the pork belly with sunny side eggs and home potatoes presented in a hot iron skillet. To die for!! Their potato chips: the best I've eaten, ever. Fresh squeezed OJ. I did pick up a chocolate chip cake slice on the way out (bakery separate location inside restaurant) not too impressed, very dry and dense. Get the pork belly/eggs/potatoes dish, your tummy will be happy.
