Should be rated #1 for deliciousness!

By goldgirlmom |

Followed a hot tip and -- Wow -- we were blown away by how absolutely delicious all the different dishes were. My final favorite was the lionsmane mushroom. It was crispy yet moist and tasted like the best scallops ever! A close tie was the pork belly which was ample for two to share (we shared everything all night long) and beautifully presented much like sushi or sashimi. Everything we had was wonderful though. We highly recommend this great restaurant!

You gotta try this place!

We got to Magpie right as a they were opening. It is a cute little restaurant in what looks like a refurbished warehouse on the other side of Houston Street. We haven’t been down that way since Spaghetti Warehouse shut down! We did have to circle the block before we figured out where we were going. It is a small place with the kitchen in the back corner. The staff members were great and knowledgeable about the menu. We ended up trying everything that was vegetarian on the menu! We started with the brussel sprouts. The flavor was delicious and they were cooked how I like them - with charred spots. They could have been warmer… it would have been better if the cheese it came with was melted on them. Next came the bread! It was toasted and warm and like nothing we have had before. The mushroom skewers were fabulous… and the schmeer in the bowl was soooo good! (We wished there was more of it!) The tofu was beautiful but it was a little too salty. The salad had a light lemony vinaigrette that was perfect. The linguini pomodoro was perfectly cooked and just a little spicy. The sauce was fresh and bright. Magpie only serves beer and wine, so we selected a Chardonnay and a sparkly rose and both were good. Don’t let the location scare you off, it is worth the trip! We will definitely be back!

A fantastic place for great scratch cooked food with a super friendly staff and affordable wine list. Reservations are a must as this is a small place.

Hidden treasure, most unexpected

What can you say about a place with outstanding flavors, amazing service and great ambiance? The Magpie has all three in an up and coming neighborhood in San Antonio. Traditional Korean flavors in non traditional dishes. A family run restaurant where the staff really cares. Run, don’t wait to try the duck breast and pear salad.

Great find in the neighbor hood.

Excellent scratch food. Friendly hardworking staff with cool locals vibe. Highly recommend. Start with the bread and the tofu for sharing. Careful or you’ll order more and forget dinner. The Malbec was excellent.

Local hidden gem.... (maybe not for long!)

Hands down one of the best restaurants in San Antonio. Food is so tasty, wine list is great.. such great value! This husband and wife team are KILLING it! She’s cooking the best Korean fusion food we’ve tasted and he’s killing it on the floor with a couple of great wait staff who are friendly and so goddamn good at what they do! Food highlights include the brussel sprouts... chicken Ssam, chicken liver mousse (to die for), the potatoes... oh those potatoes!! ❤️ oh wait.... the chocolate mousse! Leave room for the chocolate mousse! The Magpie will transport you out of San Antonio for a brief moment... with this type of quality, you could be in NY, LA or Seoul. A little hole-in-the-wall restaurant where the size belies the greatness of the food and service. Bravo The Magpie. It’s on our local fave list ... maybe a hidden gem right now? I hope it doesn’t get too busy that us locals won’t be able to get in!!

Super tasty asian inspired modern American. Vegetarian friendly. Friendly staff. Sweet potato pave and grilled mushrooms were superb.
