Special Occasion Dining and High End Bar

By FederalExpress |

For your next special occasion, treat yourself to this historical restaurant. This is wonderfully high end with quiet and classy dining. The service is superior and so is the food. Lovely surroundings, valet parking and easy in and out for the elderly. The smoked scallops with fun "ocean air" was off the charts as was the pork short rib. This is expensive restaurant with entrees ranging from $32-62 al la cart. But worth it for the atmosphere and service.

Great atmosphere. Great service. The food is just OK.

The review title says it all. The setting is wonderful and the staff is excellent. The wine list is pretty good. But the food was very UNexceptional. Overall it was OK but not what I was hoping for.

An Amazing Dining Experience

By Robbi L |

The Mansion never disappoints. Yes it is expensive, but for that you get astounding cuisine presented creatively with warm, efficient service. Our biggest problem was choosing. My husband had the roasted asparagus which was so good that I almost ordered one for myself. I had the beet gazpacho - beautifully presented on small spoons and so delicious. The scallops were light and full of flavor, the tortellini excellent and the spring lamb to swoon over. Susan was our server - friendly, helpful and efficient. One of the things I find consistently at the Mansion is fabulous service- not stuffy service, but friendly and helpful service from the valets, to the front desk to the servers.

Good to Be Back!

By Jerri G |

Restaurant Week menu was outstanding, from the slight upcharge for the foie gras mousse with peaches, to the grilled Texas quail with Bourbon succotash, chimichurri smoked trout with smashed potatoes, and the 2 desserts- creme brulee with orange and vanilla bean and the dark chocolate ??. It happened to be my husband's birthday and the macaron tower he was given was delightful to the eye and exquisite in taste!

A wonderful experience

By WarrenRodz |

The gastronomic experience was phenomenal. We has several choices, and we all rated, the service was tremendous (has a quick tour of the wine cellar), the ambiance was spectacular. Best of all, the company was the best. Completely satisfied!

Nice dinner

Food is really good and service is excellent. Recommend reservations. Lots of unique items on the menu.

Terrible service, ok food

By Danpamb |

Our recent visit was so disappointing. I always regarded this restaurant as the ultimate in Dallas. Sadly, I have changed my mind. The food was ok but not worth the price. There was not another group present, but we had to summon our bread and other condiments. The waiters seemed to be hiding out or something. With the large selection of premier restaurants in Dallas, we will definitely choose another for our next celebration.

Best Brunch Ever!

By Brent B |

I have never experienced a brunch as truly amazing as this one. The Apple Bacon Bourbon Cakes were spectacular. I have never eaten pancakes without syrup before, but syrup would have taken away from the taste sensation. The Filet was perfect and the Sorbet sampler made me sad that the experience was over. I would be willing to travel to Dallas just to experience this fabulous brunch again!

Delicious Dinner, Enjoyable Experience!

By Ashley G |

I was treated to dinner here last summer as a prize and enjoyed a wonderful evening with my colleagues. The setting is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed simply being in the beautiful space with good company! We enjoyed one of the tasting menus. The bread was delicious and plentiful and the food was unique, beautifully plated, and delicious. Overall the food was artfully presented, the service was good, and we came away enjoying this unique experience!! With that said, I do not see this as a place to take a group or family with lots of special dietary needs or looking for large portions, but rather a place that is more about a unique dining experience.

Chef’s Tasting Menu

Loved the whole experience, the place, people, wine and of course the food, every little thing is great at La Mansion. By far one of the best places in Dallas

Almost Perfect - But Not Quite

By The_Loup_Garou |

Almost Perfect - But Not Quite In June, we dined at The Mansion Restaurant at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, 2821 Turtle Creek Blvd, Dallas, Texas. This was our second visit, but many, many years between the two. We arrived a moment early for our reservation, so spent a bit of time walking around the property, and taking in the lovely and lush courtyard. Though we had dined at The Mansion before, it was so long ago (probably about 1985), that I had to ask the doorman to direct me to the entrance, off to the side, from that of the hotel. At the appointed time, we were seated at a lovely semi-circular booth, not far from one of the bars, with a view of the exquisite main dining room. As it was quite early, we were almost alone, to begin with, and that allowed us both time to just take it all in. Every aspect is beautiful (though too ornate for our interior decorating style), with a wonderful inlay in the ceiling - truly a “mansion,” by any definition. Almost instantly, I had the wine list, and menus in hand, and began to get serious about our meal. While making decisions, I ordered a glass of the Charles Heidsieck Rosé Reserve and the Krug Grande Cuvée Champagnes - just to help us decide. With Champagne in hand, we were finally ready to order, and chose the Tasting Menu, with the Sommelier’s Wine Pairings: First, and amuse bouche of Radish & Ahi Tuna - a lovely taste. Next, two breads arrived - a Seed Bun, and a Pop-over - both were very tasty Chilled Gazpacho w/ blue crab salad, cucumber, avocado, grapes, corn tortilla and jalapeños - This was both a lovely presentation, and a wonderful dish, with complex flavors, which stood out nicely. It was paired with another Champagne (one can never have too many Champagnes on the table), the Le Mesnil NV Blanc de Blanc. It paired well, but so did the Krug and the Heidsieck. Texas Tomato Panzanella w/ goat cheese, Fresno pepper, blue corn bread and balsamic pearls - another lovely presentation, and delicious dish. It was paired with the Vincent Delaporte Chavignol Sancerre - Loire Valley ‘17. The Sauvignon Blanc was a perfect wine with the tomato, as their acid levels matched perfectly. Now, the three Champagnes (yes, we still had some, in each glass, as is our habit) did well too, and especially the lighter Le Mesnil. We were having fun, and fortunately the table was large enough, as we were collecting wine glasses quickly. Seared Duck Foie Gras w/ ancho chile, peach marmalade on brioche - lovely to look at, and sublime to eat. The Foie Gras was perfectly seared, and the marmalade worked well. This dish was paired with the Royal Tokaji Company Red Label 5 Puttonyos Tokay (Hungary) ‘13. The 5 Puttonyos version went well, as it was a foil for the acid in the marmalade, and had enough acid to cut through the richness of the Foie Gras - the 6 Puttonyos version, would likely not have gone so well. I think that a Barsac, such as a Château Doisy-Daene would have worked well too. Mint-green Pea Tortellini w/ hen of the woods mushrooms and crispy veal sweetbreads - the kitchen was still sending out delicious works of culinary art. This was paired with the Gustave Lorentz Reserve Pinot Gris Alsace ‘16, substituted instead of the scheduled Cantena Terlano, Alto Adige ‘16. The Alsatian wine did a wonderful job in this pairing. At this point, our service captain asked how we were enjoying the meal, and the pacing. I replied that all was just perfect, including the pacing - that was obviously not the correct answer, as our service ground almost to a halt. The pacing was now non-existent, where it had been perfect, up to this point. I had noticed a large group outside on the patio, and maybe they took everyone’s attention at once. Also, a group of about 10 had entered the dining room, and were seated out of sight, in what I think is the wine room. We could hear them yelling and laughing, sort of killing the wonderful mood of the main dining room, and maybe they needed attention? Whatever, something happened, and service never really got back on track, afterward. Smoked Grouper w/ morels, fava bean, ndja and sea bean - this dish was very good, so I suppose it was well-worth waiting for. The Grouper was so light and flaky, with wonderful flavors surrounding it. This dish was paired with the William Févre Champs Royaux Chablis, Burgundy ‘17, and the Chardonnay complimented the flavors of the Grouper well. The minerality of the wine was perfect with the morels too - though I usually think of a Burgundian Pinot Noir here. After another rather long pause, we got the A Bar Ranch Wagyu Strip Loin w/ baby leeks, white beech mushrooms and watercress in a beef jus - while very good, and attractively plated, this dish was not the “knock it out of the park” that I had anticipated - very good, but short of great. Here, the Buena Vista Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ‘15 was poured. This was a lovely wine, and did go well with the Wagyu. Another longish pause, and we had the first non-savory dish of the evening: Clementine-verbena Ice Cream w/ macerated strawberries - lovely to look at, and very flavorful. Much of the attraction of this dish was on the nose, more than on the palate. Black Forest Torte w/ dark chocolate mousse and cherry ice cream - good, but then I am less a “dessert person,” than my wife, who gave it two-thumbs up. It was paired with the Dow LBV (Late Bottle Vintage) ‘12 Port. This was a lovely LBV, and did go well with the chocolate. At last, the pacing was back on-track. So, in most respects, it was a perfect evening, but then the service hiccups, going into the Fish Course, and carrying forward to the first Sweet Course sort of put a damper on the meal. Grading, I would give the first half of the meal an A+, but the second a C-, as it was like two different meals, in two different restaurants. Now, the wine service did keep up with the pacing, but that meant that we had a few of the wines for 15 minutes, before its dish arrived. I was glad that we had maintained sips of most of our previous wines, on the Grouper and the Wagyu would have arrived, with us sitting in front of empty wine glasses. Also, while the main dining room was so lovely, and so genteel, the noise from the group in a separate dining area, did intrude on the mood. The portion sizes were small, but more than adequate for the number of courses, and also their richness. Chef Sebastien Archambault did a fine job with the dishes, and the kitchen staff did an excellent job with the plating of each - a culinary work of art, every one. We plan to return, and hopefully sooner, than this second visit, as Chef Archambault does make changes in his Tasting Menu seasonally, as well as by market availability. I will assume that the service glitch was due to the kitchen working on the large group outside, which possibly required all servers out there, or the smaller group, in the wine room - but something happened unfortunately.

So sad to say...awful.

From the 45 minute wait beyond our reservation time to cold mashed potatoes and unseasoned filet...Christmas dinner was $150 a plate of unmitigated disappointment. I left feeling like a fool. DO NOT GO back, despite all of our feelings of nostalgia for the heyday of this Dallas institution, it is gone.

Would be overpriced at free

By Ranger T |

Tried the 7-course sampler, on the recommendation of the waiter, as a "7-course meal." Everything came out smallish in portion (as in like a single cucumber slice on one stage), either overcooked or too exotic (i.e., foo-foo euphemism for strange) tasting, or just plain bad (we didn't even eat our five measly slices of tough tasteless steak). The course or two that were good ... I didn't even really know what the heck I was eating. Waiter didn't seem to care or address any of this. Bread server was very good, and his cold and old bread was the best part of that overall disappointing meal. They say the recent chef has moved on, but the spirit of his food still ... exists. Maybe the main entrees are okay, but that 7-course sampler was extremely disappointing. I had wanted this to be a special, if pricey evening, and I'm still feeling cheated and tricked, even into the late hours of the night. Just a ruined weekend.

Disappointing

By cyril_lm2013 |

Saw great reviews about the place, and we were staying in the hotel so decided to give it a go First problem, if you dont go for the (large) tasting menu, the choice is pretty limited Second problem, the dishes are not that good.... Third problem, though the wine list is pretty extensive, it is VERY expensive...both in choice and mark-ups Overall, in a city as large as Dallas, I have to think there are better choices

Excellent but only for special occasions

By mshbnyehud |

I took my partner for a birthday dinner on a weekend evening, which was basically an excellent experience. There were a few correctable flaws, but first you have to accept the fact that this is a very expensive restaurant which I would reserve for business meetings or very special occasions. Among the many pluses are: 1) Exceptional complimentary valet parking service; 2) amazing veteran servers and support staff; 3) wonderful setting (but stay away from the main dining area (see below) and instead try to get a table in one of the attached more intimate side rooms; 4) exceptional tasting food; 5) complimentary birthday dessert choice; and 6) wonderful bar for pre-dinner drinks. Among the areas to be improved: 1) when you tell the manager/greeter that you're early for a reservation and will be in the bar getting drinks, that manager/greeter should either come get you when your table is ready and/or come ask you if you want more time in the bar. Unfortunately he lost track of us and I had to go back up front (10 minutes after our official reservation time) to remind him that we were in the bar and ask if our table was ready (which he acknowledged had been ready for quite some time); 2) portions are too small to split, even though that's how my partner and I always order. We like to order a starter, entree and side dish -- all split. The guacamole, while very tasty, didn't arrive with enough chips nor enough guacamole to really satisfy 2 persons despite the pricey cost; The halibut split produced two small pieces which could not have been more than 2 oz each, but perfectly cooked and exceptional tasting; 3) Portions of pricey wine by the glass could be 1 - 2 oz larger; the portion of complementary dessert, however, was definitely enough for two persons to split, as was the side dish of HUGE steak fries; 4) we unfortunately suffered by being seated in the main dining room right next to an exceptionally boisterous group of 4 women who were loudly and constantly laughing at each others jokes. That's just bad luck, I understand. In all, we've done our Mansion "thing" and probably won't return unless suggested by friends (or we hear that the weaknesses identified above have been resolved).

Great Restaurant, Bar and Patio...a true respite.

By Kerry C |

Exceptional food and wine in the city with a great hotel attached (which you start with is up to you...both exceptional). The staff are friendly and professional. The food is well thought out and wonderfully delicious. Great selection of wines and wonderful attention to small details (amuse-bouche with your dinner) make for a great evening at The Mansion.

Review of the bar only

By sybil_unrest |

My friends and I are public interest lawyers so we can’t afford to eat in a place like this, but we could afford a drink! The bar was gorgeous and also strangely cruise-ship-esque; I can see where cruise ships get their inspiration. This felt like a peep into how the oligarchy lives- graciously, apparently. Service was quick, friendly, and professional. I appreciated the generous bowls of olives and pecans. The drinks were priced to match the decor, but my French 75 was delicious and my friend had no complaints about their drinks.

A Christmas Dinner from the Grinch

By NKS |

We reserved a table for December 25, in the evening. We arrived on time. 1st stop was the ladies restroom. I slipped going down a slight ramp, in a dimly lit bar area. I fell on my back and hit my head. The dinner was laughable. We had oysters Rockefeller which consisted of ONE oyster on a 1/2 shell! The “salad” was a pinch of greens, a teaspoon of foi gras, 1/8 Cup of duck mousse. The wild boar chops were OK. On a water refill, the waiter knocked over the glass onto my husband’s lap! All this for $260.00 for two. Hardly worth it. We were grossly disappointed. We’ve eaten all over the US in many 4&5 star restaurants. Save your $$$$ and skip this place! Merry Christmas to all!

Great Restaurant, but expensive

The environment is great, along with the food and service. This is definitely a place for dressing up and special occasions.

Disappointed

By Kathy46356 |

Restaurant itself is beautiful and atmosphere was perfect. We found the menu very limited and food just so-so. Not what we expected for a restaurant of this caliber.

Average at best

By Carole |

We brought the family here to celebrate the day before Thanksgiving I had not dined here in a very long time. It was 1 o’clock in the afternoon and there were only four other tables with diners other than ourselves. My parents both had steaks with some type of vegetables and small potatoes and mushrooms. The Steaks quite frankly had a horrible flavor and the veggies and mushrooms were soggy and a bit salty. I decided to have dessert first and then the butternut squash soup. The desert was petite and the best part of the meal the butternut squash soup was OK it was not quite warm it was a bit tepid . My son had a grilled chicken Caesar salad which is actually quite hard to mess up I tasted it and it was all right. My daughter-in-law is vegan and they were very accommodating and made her avocado toast. We all had iced tea. The restaurant was hopping back in the day and the food was always excellent. The ambience is always wonderful. Our service was good. I would not come back for another meal here at all but they have a wonderful bar in the evening that’s always packed great drinks. For dinner it definitely would not be an option for me again. I was disappointed.

Perfect. Amazing staff.

Was staying a week at the hotel and two evenings dined at the Mansion bar solo. Both experiences were perfect. The wait staff and food runners were personable and fantastic. I was there kind of late on both evenings alone, and they made for such a wonderful experience. Not to mention fantastic fixings, and food. And glorious environment.

Always wanted to dine here!

A lovely evening in every way. The mansion is warm and beautiful. The staff is incredible and the menu is inventive and delicious. We enjoyed everything!

Demotion for the Mansion

By lolita11888 |

Last week we decided to celebrate an important birthday at the Mansion because we had a most memorable dinner there a couple of years ago. See: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g55711-d460657-r203287396-The_Mansion_at_Turtle_Creek_Restaurant-Dallas_Texas.html The place has not changed, it's still beautiful, posh and welcoming. What has changed drastically however is the food, due to a new chef that espouses all the latest fads that herald: "I'm going to stupefy you." Our private dining room felt silent when we were served a small glass of undefined green liquid with a slice of avocado floating in it. Our first dishes then took a long time to appear. Portions of salad and rizoto were minuscule, more befitting the alternative "degustation menu." My first course was a gazpacho. It came in the shape of five baby spoons (see picture) filled with some green pap and something that looked like the yolk of a quail egg--the tomato "spherification." The waitress came by and gave me a long lecture about how the gazpacho was "deconstructed" so I could enjoy all the savors in it. Surely you are joshing me! Main courses were varied. More rizoto, some beef, agnolotti, and silkie chicken for me and the birthday guest: a desiccated chicken leg, and I mean a complete leg down to the claws. It was supposed to be confit, which only works well with goose or duck, as we all know. Our guest seemed a bit upset at the view of her plate and the waitress offered to remove the offending shrunken leg. At the side of the leg were two small slices of chicken roulade so dry that one mouthful was all I could swallow. So sad! They had the courtesy of not charging us for the chicken (the guest did not eat hers either) and finally came one nice moment with the desserts. . . Perhaps the pastry chef is still the same? Please give us back Chef Davaillon! Or at least tell us where he is hiding.

A Most Delicious Weekend Brunch

By 860SusanB860 |

We had recently dined at The Mansion for dinner and decided to return and try their brunch menu. The ambiance is very upscale and romantic - the service is attentive without being overpowering. Everything is top notch and elegant with no detail being overlooked. As soon as we were seated in the gorgeous dining room, we were offered coffee and fresh pastries. The mini scones and croissants were sweet and flaky. We ordered their Endless Mimosas which were very nice and refreshing. Next, we decided to have the "Brunch Tasting Menu" that included a starter, an entree, and a dessert for $54 per person. I had the Vanilla Yogurt Parfait which was a perfect appetizer. It had creamy vanilla yogurt, granola, fresh berries and a drizzle of honey and was served in a dish over crushed ice. My husband opted for the Tortilla Soup, which has been a Mansion staple for years. It was savory and very tasty. For our entrees, we chose the Smoked Brisket Benedict and the Raisin Pecan French Toast (see pics). Both dishes were excellent and the portions were large enough for leftovers. Our dessert choices were the Lemon Strawberry Tart and the Churros. The tart was not only beautifully plated but was light and delicious and served with a scoop of sorbet. The churros were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. They were stacked vertically in a glass and were served with a side of warm dulce de leche sauce and literally melted in my mouth. This restaurant IS expensive and is well-known as a fine dining establishment in Dallas. Personally, we enjoyed our brunch dining experience more so than the dinner and certainly enjoyed the livelier crowds, menu choices and food portions better during the day. The manager and the staff are all top-notch! This is a perfect dining experience for a special occasion or romantic evening out.

Generally very good

By Dodgerdog |

We went there for Christmas Eve Dinner. We had a reservation and were promptly seated at a nice table. Waiter greeted us and allowed us to get settled in and then disappeared. Had to ask two managers to send him over to take cocktail orders. He then got his act together and was attentive going forward. The food was terrific but the timing of serving the courses was a bit uneven. Atmosphere is wonderful and lobby area is beautiful. Bar has a great vibe. Iron out some service issues and you can be a 5 star review.

THIS RESTAURANT AND BAR HAS EXCELLENT FOOD WITH THE AMBIANCE AND SERVICE TO MATCH

By jamesr2417 |

Not only was the food outstanding, The staff was even better starting with the valet, a very charming and helpful person. The waiters were extremely attentive and they were always there when you needed them. Of course the ambience of THE MANSION is un questionable along with it's history. A good choice for a memorable meal in the center of Dallas.

Not Worth It

By T5843ZIvictoriar |

The restaurant has a great atmosphere. However, the food was NOT good. I went with my sisters and we all got the "Brunch Special" and even though we each had a variety of different dishes we all came to the same conclusion. The food was some of the worse we had ever had. The prices of course are outrageous, which is to be expected.

Beauitful!

By K8eros |

The is one of Dallas' older luxury hotels and it continues to live up to its reputation. It has more competition that it use to with the Ritz and The Crescent just down the street, but it is still one of my favorites and deserve the recognition for it's outstanding service and splendor.

Has Fallen so Far

By Michael I |

It does have great atmosphere but that can't make up for the below average food. We had dinner for 4 and 2 were just not good. Some changes must be made in the kitchen before I will return.

As You Suspect - PERFECTION!

By Paul W |

Our group was treated to a hosted dinner at The Maison and it was everything we expected...and more. We were seated in one of the outer buildings, in a private dining room and were treated to an amazing meal. Appetizers included Mussel Risotto and Winter Greens Salad, perfect for whetting the appetite for the following: Tenderloin Filet or Parisian Gnocchi. The Filet was perfection, silky smooth and full of flavor. The Sweet Potato Emulsion with the Gnocchi could not have been a better accompaniment. The two desserts were incredible - Blueberry Tart with lemon cream, Meringue and Blueberry Sorbet and the Chocolate Flourless Cake with Caramelia Mousse, Cocoa Nib Tuile and ice cream. A wonderful evening topped off with an incredible meal.

Top Quality Meal

By El_Greenholio |

I always wanted to dine at this restaurant if I was ever in Dallas. Great service with real enthusiasm and hospitality. I had the degustation menu. Everything looked and tasted really good. A really classy restaurant that I would highly recommend.

Perfection!

By Texas H |

Stopped in for lunch while staying at the Mansion and was pleasantly surprised. I was seated in a lovely area of the restaurant looking out on the terrace. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich and it was the best one I've ever had!!! Absolutely delicious!!! It was served with house made chips that were delicious as well! The service was impeccable!!! They also served a wonderful assortment of breads with your meal. Try the lavash crackers they are amazing! Even the ice tea was unique and refreshing! Definitely a must do in Dallas, a little pricey, but worth it! It would be a great special occasion restaurant.

Elegant as always

By Cathrine S |

The setting is elegant without being stuffy and the service was terrific. Our meals were delicious. This restaurant may have been around for a while, but it's still a wonderful spot for a memorable evening.

Disappointing at best, overrated and avoidable at worst.

By Horit B. |

TL:DR : Subpar, overpriced food, in quaint and Instaworthy setting, with polite but sloppy service. There's not much left to say about the Mansion. It is routinely heralded (and frequented) by the "old moneyed class" of DFW. The old-school upscale ambience feels genuinely nice, because of the building and its nooks and crannies. Definitely a place to dress up a bit for...until you realise that you'd get Brunch food that's much superior, at half the price, at a dozen other places in the city. No, really. The single defining moment of our brunch was when we realised that the chef had arbitrarily removed their much vaunted crab cake from the starters section, and the seared scallops from the entrée section of their 3 course prixfixe brunch menu. When I asked how come those items were there the previous week(s) and not today, I got told that it was a new menu, and they'd added, wait for it, Shrimp & Grits. What is this, Cracker Barrel Luxe? Blatant attempts at cost-cutting, and customer-squeezing notwithstanding, here's what we eventually got from the boring and restrictive menu: 1) Mimosa - Bad. No effervescence, just a splash of orange with no body or flavor, poor quality sparkling wine, in an impossibly narrow flute. 2) Bloody Mary - Average. Not made to order, kept pre-made in glasses. 3) Large pastry basket - Good. Tasty and fresh assortment. Should have ended our meal here. $17 bucks wasn't bad for the pastry basket. The remaining 200-ish dollars we spend on food was a bad decision. 4) Smoked salmon - Good, but a Hobbit-size portion. Sloppy service here meant the server dropped the accompanying bagel off the plate while setting it down on the table. 5) Tomato-peach salad - Good, Hobbit-size portion, and a generally strange dish to be on a brunch menu. The 2.6 pieces of peaches were hard and flavorless. 6) Mushroom ravioli - Good, small-portion. Sharp, cheesy, creamy sauce which was tasty but not particularly elevated. 7) Brisket Benedict - Embarrassing. For $26 I should have sent this back or called the chef out. The tiny benedicts with a sliver of brisket on a mini-biscuit were fine. The Bearnaise was bland but fine. Everything else on the plate- especially the fried potato side, was terrible. Unfit for consumption. If management is reading this, spare me the "we will do better next time" spiel, and either offer me a redo or a refund for this dish. 8) Petit Filet - Okay. Tasty but plain. Small piece of decent steak, pretty close to the medium-rare I requested. Marble potatoes were soft or hard, but atleast edible. Spinach and trumpet mushrooms were fine. Red wine jus was fine. 9) Desserts were okay, with the Churros being quite good, and the Creme Brulee being good but plain and cloying after a few spoons. 10) Coffee was average, and as expected, expensive. $6 for a cup of black coffee plonked down on the table. Something else to note - most of the wings of the dining room are closed off for Brunch so if you're expecting to get lovely garden views you're likely to be disappointed. They only seat people in the verandah, which is nice but somewhat cramped, or in the slightly dreary dining room. We sat in the covered dining room straight through the entrance to the restaurant. I dont know if I was enjoying the fireplaces and ornate pillars and dinner vibes on a bright Sunday morning, but it's a pleasant, albeit small space. Bill was $200+ for 3. We ended up leaving and eating a heartier meal elsewhere after a couple of hours. Overall, I might return to see if their lunch & dinner are better because I did enjoy the setting. I'd just skip the place for Brunch. Far better options, food-wise, in the city. As lovely as the Mansion is, you can't eat the decor and ambience, can you?

A Lovely First Night in Dallas

By YouCanCallMeFussyBut |

We were lucky enough to have dinner at The Mansion our first evening in Dallas. What a lovely experience! I can't say enough about the staff. Our waiter ( I sadly can't remember her name) was so,so nice and professional . We enjoyed one of the tasting menus which was excellent. I can't recommend it enough. ** In the event the main bar is still closed when you are there have your cocktails at your table in the dining room. The temporary bar they have set up upstairs is not so great.

Still One Of The Pinnacles Of Dallas Dining

By Kevin M |

The Mansion was THE place to eat for fine dining when it opened 35 years ago and while their have been a lot of upscale restaurants open up since then, as far as I know, the Mansion is the only one in the city that has ever been on Michelin's Star list. Expect EXCEPTIONAL service from staff members who have averaged being there for 20 years or more; beautiful presentation and delicious food that you won't find on the menu anywhere else in town. It isn't the "it" place is was 35 years ago but if you want to dine in this equisite restaurant, you better make your reservations a few days in advance.

Great Bites in the Bar

By GrapeHeart |

Have dined at the restaurant many times and it is pricey but worth it! This time I had a terrific experience having dinner in the bar. Great choices for bar bites but they have a cheese plate with 5 fabulous cheeses, almonds and lightly toasted fruit bread and a thick fruit spread. Makes a wonderful dish! Just love it! Happy Hour Monday thru Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 with half priced wines by the glass. Nice list too! Live music in the bar on certain nights. Consult their website for who’s playing when and sit and sip and enjoy!

We were looking for a nice romantic spot to celebrate our anniversary, and after discovering several places were already booked-up, we selected this after viewing the photos... The interior looked nothing like the photos.. We asked for a romantic table and were put in a corner where the staff are constantly walking through (but the waiter said it was "[his] favorite table" - maybe because he's constantly passing it?)... The menu wasn't very appealing and the prices were atrocious...

Amazing breakfast & ambiance

By Lauren |

Amazing breakfast. My husband and I spent a week here for a quick getaway and loved it so much. Our breakfast though was perhaps the highlight for us. Everything was cooked perfectly and the wait staff was incredibly attentive. They kept our coffee hot and were so kind. We will definitely return :)

Not good

By CaptainMo1 |

Staying here at the hotel which is wonderful and luxurious so we wanted to have lunch. Menu was weird and strange so I had the Reuben sandwich which was so salty I sent it back so they brought me the croque msr sandwich which I again sent back. Too salty Left very disappointed and cancelled the dinner reservations we had. We ate out of the hotel. Atmosphere is nice but you can eat the ambience

Fabulous as Always

I hadn't been in a few years and recently took my mother and father, aunt and uncle. The evening was absolutely as I wanted. The service - perfect. The food - spectacular. The atmosphere - enjoyable. All of which this is why the restaurant remains one of my favorite in the Dallas area!

Great food - no matter that it's in a hotel

We had a wonderful evening of good food and wine in this beautiful and romantic hotel restaurant. The menu is fantastic and the food is delicious.

One of the Best in Dallas

By Jeff F |

Great food by a great chef, great atmosphere, affordable wine list. What more can you say about one of the top places to dine in Dallas.

Excellent bar and entertainment

By Lisa D |

The bar offers some dining options. The atmosphere is always lively and welcoming. George Anderson's band will get everyone up on their feet and laughing into the night.

Nice restaurant

By Doug w |

The service was great but I was on a strict protein only diet and what I ordered didn't get me super excited. Very polished wait staff and very nice ambiance. This is my favorite Dallas hotel and if you want something easy inside the hotel, its a good bet.

extraordinary

This is by far one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. I have dined in Rome,Paris,Germany, every island you can think of. New York City,LA,Las Vegas this dining experience was fantastic.

Beautiful Restaurant

By Barry W |

We had lunch here on November 11th. It was a warm day and we were seated with a view of the patio which is stunning. We started with the red romaine salad. We moved onto the flatiron steak with onion jam and lyonnaise potatoes and the smoked chicken with mushroom ragout. Both of the entrees were quite good but the smoked chicken as a menu item seemed a bit uninspired considering the history and reputation of The Mansion. Heather had a glass of the William Fevre Champs Royaux which is a great glass of wine. I'm not a dessert freak but we shared the cocoa chip ice cream which I would rank as the 2rd best ice cream I've ever tasted. Note, it's home made. The best I've had was black cherry / peanut butter ice cream at York St. in 2010.

Another excellent lunch!

Another excellent lunch at The Mansion. Supurb service and atmosphere along with quality food and drinks.

Wonderful menu and great wine list!

By David_deF |

After a long board meeting we decided to go back to the hotel and have dinner at the hotel restaurant. The service is really fantastic and they were ae to seat us without a reservation on a Saturday night. From the start everything was delightful. I had the steak Tatar and gnocchi with sweet potato essence, quite delicious. Others had the deconstructed gazpacho the confirmation and the smoked pheasant that literally was under a glass dome filled with smoke! The desserts we had simply ended the meal on a lovely note. Definitely will dine there again.

Mansion class

By Derek R |

The Mansion is just a spectacular place to stay. They have the comforts of a smaller high end hotel with the best staff in the city. The staff goes out of their way to assist you with anything you may need. They are also very friendly. The rooms are comfortable and well taken care of. I would stay here every time if I could.

Disappointed~ Since Carolyn Hunt Sold This Place the Restaurant Has Gone Downhill

By Magictravelnow |

Took my friend there for his birthday and no one had even mentioned they were having a party so the restaurant would close at 1:00pm and we had a noon reservation. I can no longer support this place as they had to re-do the $20 hamburger as the bun was burnt to a crisp, it was not even attractive and should never have been delivered to my table. They did take care of it and took it off the bill as they should have. The servers were very attentive but I have to say since Carolyn Hunt sold all of her former properties including this one they make you feel like a lemon they just squeeze it out of everyone. How embarrassing for this lovely 95 year old woman because people still think she owns it and she does not. She tried to buy it back but the company that bought it said NO so at 95 years of age a wonderful woman is outraged and so am I. Meanwhile they allowed us sit at our table as they moved all of the furniture around it was a mess. This will be the last time I ever visit here.

My Surprise Birthday Dinner

By Marian H |

My birthday is on December 6th. This year my two sons decided to surprise me with a very special treat for my 80th birthday. They took me to the Mansion on Turtle Creek. This was not something I would routinely do as it is way out of my price league. The service was very accommodating so no complaints there. There were 9 of us at this celebration and when the food arrived we were all pretty much surprised on the quality of our meal. I had salmon which was served with black eyed peas. Yes that was it - salmon and black eyed peas! Another lady ordered the same thing. It was eatable but that’s about all you can say for it. Two other guests had steak and they were very disappointed in it. For most of the people there, like me, it was our only experience with eating at such a renowned restaurant. A couple of the guests there later said it was the worst food they had ever had at a restaurant. Truly this was very disappointing to eat at a place like this and instead of it being a great experience it was totally a surprise and in the worst way. My two sons decided to order a pumpkin cheesecake and split it. It came out on a rather large plate and truly it looked like one bite which the server cut in two pieces. Wow really! I would have thought they would be embarrassed to offer this to a guest. I later looked up the menu and the price was $12. $12 and the portion was embarrassingly tiny. So for my 80th Birthday celebration it turned out to be very disappointing. Most of the guest later said they would never again dine there. It was our one and only experience with this restaurant.

Superb dining experience, wonderful staff

By Cohost.com |

The staff was great and friendly. This place treats you to an upscale dining experience that is comfortable, pleasurable and of course great food. The bar is fun as well with live music and after dinner drinks.

good food, good wine and good service!

By Chandler A |

Is there really anything else? I have always wanted to go to "the mansion" and was not disappointed. We went during restaurant week and selected the dinner for the event which included paired wines for each course. I hope to go back some day!

Another Rosewood gem in downtown Dallas

By theglimmertwin |

Stayed there on business trip. Very cozy hotel with a very friendly staff. I was so impressed to know that most the staff have over 30 years working there and many of their repeat guests love that recognition that only this hotel can provide. Great food, beautiful facilities, and well trained staff. Definitely would stay again.

Disappointing and overpriced

By Dallas resident |

I met friends for lunch to celebrate the Christmas season. This was a special occasion and we were looking forward to a delicious meal. My field green salad was well below average, as if a spring mix was dumped into a bowl with some chopped cauliflower, goat cheese and sprinkled with a basic vinaigrette. The salmon was cool, some what tough, served with 2 small carrots and black eye peas. Definitely not up to par. I will not return!

Not good

By Cathy C |

The restaurant is beautiful. So is the bar. The problem was the food or maybe just what I ordered- halibut. It was almost inedible. There was no flavor and it was mushy. The waiter never asked how our meals were after serving us nor when he was removing the plates. My plate still had most of the fish on it. So I asked if he’d like to know and shared my opinion. He was apologetic and didn’t charge us for that dish. But why did I have to be proactive with the information when the food was still visibly on the plate? We were staying at the hotel and had been looking forward to the complete Rosewood experience. This was a disappointment.

Not the Mansion I Remember Fondly

By LegalEyeDallasTexas |

We went on a Thursday. We started in the piano bar. We wanted to sit outside but the patio looked dirty with full of leaves—which is understandable with recent weather I suppose. Drinks were pretty good, but nothing over the top. Then we sat for dinner in the conservatory. It was just ok. Nothing on the menu appealed to any of us or sparked our curiosity. The food was fine. Well cooked. Good quality. Just nothing exciting. Where I was most disappointed was service. Service used to be amazing. If you dropped a fork, someone appeared out of nowhere. This time, we kept looking for our waiter to order more wine or other food, etc. He pretty much appeared just to take order, then deliver food, and eventually returned for the check. He did check on us once, but he just didn’t seem very welcoming or attentive. To be fair, we have high expectations of the Mansion from many years of dining at what was the pinnacle of Dallas restaurants. Now with so many offerings in Dallas, the Mansion has really slipped behind. Still a wonderful setting. Perfect place to take the in-laws or have a quiet business dinner or quiet romantic dinner. It is not busy or bustling at all, which I favor over the loud steakhouses. But it does seem a little lonely and too quiet. It needs some excitement and refresh to the menu and staffing. An international spin perhaps, dishes from Asia, South America. Something to provide a unique experience perhaps. Overall, it was a very nice atmosphere and high quality dining, just a bit uninspired.

The hotel located up a street that it may be a bit cumbersome to find via GPS. Drive slowly and know that the entrance appears as of a private residence. Once in, staff will come to you and assist as needed. Older hotel, but still has some charm. Don't expect recent renovations, just nice service.

The Queen Still Reigns in Dallas!

By Greg S |

A colleague of mine wanted to celebrate 10 years of good finances so, he invited me for lunch -- ah, and what a delight! The Mansion has a history unto itself and a culinary record that is rarely matched. I have the marinated cheeks of beef which were so moist and tender, I only used a fold. The appetizer was, of course, the most famous item on the menu; TORTILLA SOUP! Wisely, my host suggested that we do wine pairings with the 3 course luncheon, and the selections from California and Australia were a delight - perfects matches for our cuisine! The waitstaff was a charming, sassy woman who knew when to engage and when to leave us in private conversation - the perfect blend of Texas hospitality and attentive service!

Celebration location

By Nasema M |

A small group (5) had lunch during restaurant week to celebrate a friend's birthday. We've all decided to not wait for a scheduled event to go back. A meal there is a celebration! The service was lovely and the food was phenomenal. Choosing the sommeliers' wine pairings was an excellent decision as the complimentary tastes were impressive.

Still Fabulous

By Steve C |

I haven’t been in many years, and don’t know why. Superb food, and attentive service. Great place for lunch, and for special occasions.

Nice for lunch

By jazzups75235 |

The Mansion’s veranda makes a lovely venue for a quiet lunch. The lunch special includes a cup of their signature tortilla soup (which is very spicy), a small green salad and your choice of sandwich. It’s been years that my husband and I had eaten there, so I had forgotten how large the sandwiches are. The service was immaculate and the ambiance was lovely. A great choice for a lunch - business or pleasure.

Valentine’s Day plans ruined by a greedy restaurant

By Dennis M |

Complete lack of service from what is supposed to be one of the best establishments in Dallas. After securing brunch reservation for Valentine’s Day almost two months in advance and having to provide a credit card up front to secure the reservation, the restaurant just called to inform me that a customer “bought out the whole place” for the 13th, 14th & 15th and my reservation is cancelled. The hostess was kind enough to suggest I could reschedule my Valentine’s Day brunch for Thursday the 12th or Monday the 16th though! What a joke. Mind you, we’re only a few weeks out and now every other restaurant in Dallas is already booked solid. But hey, Courtney said she could send me a link to OpenTable to find another reservation. Absolutely disgusting behavior from this establishment and I would never ever, ever spend another dollar here.

Overpriced and mundane....

By Texan127 |

The wife and I recently had dinner then brunch at this restaurant, during a stay at the hotel. Our impressions were poor for dinner, but good for breakfast. First, about the dinner. We had prior dinner reservations, and were promptly greeted and seated. It is a lovely dinning room, with both an interior room, and a glassed in veranda, with a view to the park nearby, and outdoor dining area (which was closed). We sat in the veranda, which is the best view. I had a craving for steak, so ordered an 8 oz. Filet, medium rare, and the wife ordered scallops. We both wanted a side salad, but none listed on the menu. The waiter offered that a salad could be made up, so we ordered one each. Then we ordered two glasses of wine, and waited, and.........waited......After nearly an hour of being avoided by our waiter, I followed up on our order, which then finally came out, first with giant lettuce salads. The salads were mainly wilted lettuce with sliced radishes and dressing....what? no tomatoes, no olives, nothing else. Then my steak came, which was dry, way over done, not rare, and had absolutely no seasoning....Wife's order had 3 little scallops.....Overall, we were very disappointed with the indifferent service, long wait, and poor food.......I found myself wishing I had stayed home to grill my own steak.....I cannot recommend this restaurant for dinner.... Then, onward to the brunch the next day. We had an 11:15 AM reservation, and were promptly seated. Brunch, consists of just ordering off the menu, no buffet tables with mounds of bacon, eggs, waffles, or other treats.......Meanwhile, we had skipped breakfast to save our appetites for 'brunch'...what a let down. So we both ordered the Texas Breakfast, which had two eggs, biscuits and gravy, and sausage. This was quite good, and the brunch wait staff was excellent, and very attentive.....Overall, great place for breakfast, but not dinner......

Excellent Mexican & American Food

By Munich63 |

The Menu is excellent! The Chef has invested some time in his menu and perfected the Mexican and American Cuisine. The staff are more than friendly!

Excellent overall - good for gluten-free

By Jean H |

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. One flaw is our table wasn't ready when we arrived. At very good restaurants I always find that a negative. Other than that, there are two fixed menus and they are excellent. Great accommodation for gluten-free, including gluten-free bread which is great for my husband with celiac disease. They have a great wine list, but their mark-ups are about 200%, versus the other three high-end restaurants that we dined at this week-end which had about 100% mark-ups. This made for a much more expensive meal. All in all, an excellent dining experience.

Great Service and Atmosphere

By KG_TXtraveler |

My husband and I came to this restaurant for our anniversary. There are multiple dining areas and each looked special. The service was great and customized to the guests. The chef accommodated some dietary restrictions. For starters, the risotto was fantastic. We had the sea bass and the duck as entrees and both were good. For desert, we had the sorbet sampler and it was a lot of fun at the end of the meal! The bar was a great place to hang out after dinner. We made reservations on OpenTable a few days in advance with no issues.

WOW... IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO IMPRESS SOMEONE... LOOK NO FURTHER

By Travelingmansince84 |

This restaurant and the attached bar are truly a gem of Dallas. Very classy and elegant, yet not pretentious. This place reeks of old Dallas money and society...yet all are welcomed as equals. I have made this a repeat stop for some of my best clients/friends because we are always guaranteed a great meal and exceptional experience. Truly memorable occasions each and every time. You have to hit the bar as well. EXCEPTIONAL live entertainment in a very cozy atmosphere. LOVE IT!!

Timeless elegance

By trevormom |

This was the first place we ever stayed in Dallas several years ago and many of the same employees are still there. It is very tasteful in an elegant understated way, rooms are large, quiet and well maintained. You feel a sense of calm the minute you walk in the lobby and see the lovely floral arrangements. The feeling continues when your advanced requests are all honored without reminder and you are given complementary sweet tea and cornbread on arrival in your room. We used the hotel shuttle quite a bit which came in handy as there are not a lot or restaurants in close proximity. The hotel has its own restaurant and dies a very good room service breakfast.

Great service ! Great food!

By paris1962 |

Being tired we decided to eat at the hotel ! What a treat ! We ate on the inside patio: beautiful .. and even if we didn't really care for the menu which seems too heavy at that time ! We asked for the bar menu more appropriate for our hunger and not a problem : Caesar salad and salmon cooked at the perfection with delicious rice , mushroom ... great wine and martini ! Fabulous bread !!! Service excellent ! Bar seems great too ! I like that old feel of an English bar/ club !

Outstanding attention to detail. service and food.

Perfection in every way from dinner service to breakfast. Could not ask for a more sophisticated or better meal.

Christmas Dinner/ brunch at 3:00 p.m.

By Carol R |

Nothing could have been better than my late afternoon brunch. Everything was divine from start to finish. Had Moët Chandon champagne for the entire meal. Oh my, yum! The amuse bush was lovely, disappointed by lack of lobster Collins, but the pheasant served with shaved black truffles more than made up for it. Will see if photos come through. Very pricey, but for Christmas it was worth it

Just the best of the best

By Vasileios Sigalas |

The most aristocratic restaurant in the city up to now. We went for brunch and we didnt regret it a second. Very expensive place but it worth it

Good Experience

By John |

I had lunch/brunch at the Mansion, and it was basically what I expected from visits many years ago. The food is, naturally, pricey, but certainly no more expensive than other restaurants in Dallas. The food was quite good, though I wouldn't say that it was as fine as I might have expected. Service was friendly but could have been more elegant. The restaurant attracts special event diners on the high end and mid end. Dress varies from the usual hotel guest looking sloppy to those in jackets. It still merits a visit for a glimpse of the traditional Dallas experience.

First Time Patrons

By Madeline55870 |

Very nice older hotel with beautiful scenery. My daughter found this for a special place to celebrate my BD last Sun. (8/7) there were 4 adults and my 7/4 yo grchildren. It was very nice. Kind of disappointed by a pretty limited menu for brunch. I'm pretty picky about my food, don't eat red meat or seafood, so my choices were limited at best. Ended up with a spinach omelette - which obviously I can get about anywhere! I ordered an appetizer that 1/2 the stuff in it, I couldn't pronounce. I'm pretty well traveled, but evidently I'm NOT up on all the "Fancy names!" Please, just call shrimp, lobster, etc. what IT IS! Anyway, I ended up with something that " I thought" was basic tomatoes/cheese, herbs. Nope, the fancy name inc. raw seafood! (IF I had seafood allergies, I would have ended up in the ER!) There were items that were GREAT, others loved their choices. Since it was my BD, it was Sunday Brunch, I would have loved a mimosa, but there was an $18. Charge for "endless mimosa." I only drink one, maybe 2 at best. I sure wasn't about to pay $18. For the small glass of champs, so on my BD, I drank iced tea. Service was excellent, almost to interfering at times (if I need something after you have checked on us 1-2x I'll find you!). My 4yo grdaughter had the best I think - yogurt parfait with nice fresh fruit. Next time I'm having that! I am a creme brûlée aholic, there's is OK at best! I want CB, not blueberries, or put them on top, not IN my CB. Very nice ambiance to this place, would probably go back, but next time I'll know better on choosing some items.

Superb

Texan Hospitality at Its Best: Memorable Dinner, Noteworthy Bar

By dutchessofwinward |

I finally had a chance to go here and the storied restaurant, and could not have been happier. Overall, the staff, and the bar does not disappoint. I think the bar rivals some of the best in America like the Bull and Bear in NYC, or the Palm D'Or in Chicago. Just a great vibe that is lively but not over the top and with a great bartender-who really makes you feel welcome. Next came dinner that was creative, with attentive service, and whimsical. I think the new chef will take it to new heights. A small issue with dessert was very quickly taken care of, and I was on my way efficiently but never rushed.

I would come back again ! Love the restaurant -

By ClaudiaSab |

We stayed at the hotel during a complete week - I enjoyed the breakfast, and the lunch as well - There are too many great places to eat in Dallas, but this place is a MUST GO ! The service was very cordial, altho sometimes the " timing " was not the best - Still the food worth it ! The " Tortilla soup " its delicious - Salads and a great variety of fishes - The menu is big , lot to choose from - Don't miss the desserts , are delicious - I love the food add to an amazing environment - What I liked less : Sometimes it can be loud, depends who's sitting in the table next to you , and not BC of the children - People can get loud sometimes -

Very Memorable

By InTheMomentManhattan |

Most lives are lived with many nights at a restaurant. For me this was one of the most memorable dinners that I have enjoyed. All aspects of our evening at the Mansion Restaurant were extraordinarily good. Decor, food, service, ambiance were all first rate. We also visited the restaurant for breakfast three times during our stay at the hotel. All were equally fantastic.

Perfect for that special occasion!!

By Kimberly H |

First, it is a beautiful establishment rich in history. The front desk associate was more than glad to show us around and inform us of the uniqueness of the building and its inhabitants from yesteryear. Secondly, the restaurant had the BEST scallops I have ever had!! I literally drooled days later just thinking about them!! While it was a bit pricy for a place to visit with any frequency, it really made a lasting impression on us!

Lunch is good , need to try dinner

By 69tiger888 |

A local took me to to this well known restaurant, housed within the Mansion hotel in Turtle Greek outside of Dallas. Southern decor with nice entrance , sizable bar look like for who's who in Dallas . We sat indoor, the lunch menu was simple ( dinner offers much more , like squab , dungeness Chad and two wine tasting menu ) Wine list is extensive with First Growth Bordeaux avaiable . Tortilla soup is good and the Artic Char is superb. .True test will be dinner hopefully soon

Anniversary Dinner

By Tracy F |

I recently had dinner at The Mansion for my Anniversary. I have been to many of Dallas' upscale restaurants including the Ritz in which Fearing now resides and wanted to try it ou and the new chef. The atmosphere is very cozy and was the perfect setting for out romantic evening. They don't take many reservations and space them out so that it almost feels as if you have the place to yourself. We chose not to go with the Tasting menu as both options had items we didn't care for included and they don't allow substitutions. I opted for the corn risotto and the King Salmon, both were perfectly cooked and the risotto in my opinion was one of the best I have ever had! I could have eaten another bowl of that and been satisfied. As far as pricing goes, we tend to eat at expensive restaurants so this was in line with what we would normally spend, especially on a special occasion, our wine choice however we did feel was overpriced. We paid $65 for a bottle that we could buy anywhere for $16, but I guess that is expected at a high end restaurant, and we weren't terribly surprised by it. We opted not to have dessert as we had plans to visit another favorite spot just for dessert and coffee later in the evening, but the pettifors they offered with the check were the perfect sweet ending to our dinner experience. Service was excellent through the entire evening also. Definitely recommend, at least for a one time experience or special occasion. I plan to visit soon for brunch as I happened to notice the menu online.

Best Birthday Ever!

By Heather S |

We enjoyed a delicious meal on the enclosed portion of the veranda. Susan took exceptional care of us by accommodating a random request and making insightful suggestions. Jennifer the sommelier steered us in making an exceptional wine choice. The menu reads somewhat flat with plates described roughly by their ingredients (I.e. pea pasta which is really ravioli stuffed with...) verses the way a menu can read like a good bedtime story. It should make your mouth water, give you a greater sense of the dish, and help you make an informed decision. Fortunately, Susan patiently answered all of our questions. The restaurant is beautiful and it was a delicious meal. The lobster risotto was spectacular. We followed it with dessert. The flourless chocolate was divine and as for the blackberry tart -I didn’t even get a bite because my husband inhaled it! He raved about it. The Mansion is a great experience that I recommend for special occasions and intimate meals.

Intimate Elegance

By Mamapro |

We stayed here for a wedding we were attending. The room was lovely. The staff couldn't have bed nicer or more helpful. The bar is is small with dark wood. Wonderful drinks. My favorite was the Spring Fling - lavender and gin with a splash of tonic. We ate out but had dessert in the patio afterwards both nights. Hey needed more staff but the dessert was excellent. Texas Crunch one night and creme brûlée the next. Fabulous! The pool is small but we loved the intimacy. It is lovely at night with the stars overhead. We were the only ones there. I would stay again for sure.

Lovely bar and restaurant

By Lisa D |

Great music in the bar. This is a fun place with a historic past as the place to party. Everyone from Sinatra to Sting has stayed and played here.

Convenient and pricey

By BosoxKen |

This is the main restaurant in the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek Hotel and it is excellent (best Club sandwich ever). There are ample selections of libations but the liquor (wine and spirits) are definitely overpriced even by hotel standards (think captive audience). That said the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful so if you are on an expense account, what the heck!

Surprisingly Disappointing...

By thetravelguy55 |

This was one of the most disappointing experiences of restaurant week. The food was terribly under seasoned, unevenly cooked, and just plain tasteless. Very shocking as we were really looking forward to this dinner. I come to find out that the executive chef that made this place great, has left.......and boy is it ever apparent in this sub-par food. The only good thing about this meal was the dessert. We will not be returning here.

The Mansion was an Experience worth the price

We ordered the 5 course dinner with wine pairing. The food was exquisite and elegantly plated. The wine was wonderful and the ambience was extremely classy. A place not to miss.

My husband and I were staying at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek over Mother's Day weekend. Our daughter lives in Dallas, and the three of us had a spectacular Mother's Day brunch!! Every dish was plated so beautifully, they were difficult to eat!! The service was friendly and faultless. The ambiance is divine! If you have never had the experience of dining at The Mansion, it is a must on anyone's list who is visiting Dallas.

Silver Anniversary Celebration Success at The Mansion on Turtle CreekNaerbaise

By J O |

What better way to celebrate a Silver Anniversary than to return to site of our most cherished Wedding Present: Brunch at The Mansion on Turtle Creek. We didn't rub elbows with Dr. Beverly Crusher from StarTrek Next Generation this time, but the staff had a lovely table with patio access and a view for us and a nice card commemorating the occasion. Moet Chandon Brut Imperial is the house champagne, so preferences already satisfied with that choice courtesy of my lovely spousal unit. I'd highly recommend the bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Marys if Champagne's not your thing. Obviously, The Mansion has an extensive wine cellar for the most discriminating diner to enjoy. The Brunch Menu is 3 courses ala carte, nine selections for appetizers, eleven entrees, four sides and five sinful desserts. You can also order the Brunch Tasting (prix fixe) with one selection per course for a very reasonable price. We added an extra side, blistered sushito peppers with queso fresco & pimento cheese and found it an different, tasty and as immensely enjoyable as the entire meal. Appetizer course: Spousal unit raved about the tomato & peach panzanella while I enjoyed the denerous jumbo lump crab cake - melt-in-your-mouth delicious, no Tartar sauce needed. Main course: Spousal unit ordered the plump, tender, juicy seared scallops, with corn, peppers & jalapeno relish while I had the Smoked Brisket Benedict. The Brisket is the star of this dish, with a bernaise sauce and unique bacon biscuit, it's rich & luxurious. Side note, the garnish seemed to be purple fingerling potatoes and a puree of some sort with a sprig of frisse. Dessert course: Spousal unit had a delicious pistachio semifreddo(?). I succumbed to the temptation of strawberry & vanilla bean creme brulee, which was of course, everything you'd imagine from such rich ingredients, and a wee bit more! You'll Enjoy Brunch at The Mansion on Turtle Creek. Be There!

End of an Era

By Paul W |

We have been going to the Mansion for 30 years, Unfortunately it has continued to degrade ever since the departure of Dean Fearing a few years ago. However, it has reached a point of doubtful return, We dined today between couples in sweat clothes, tennis shoes, people that hadn't brushed their hair in a while and was served in dishes that would be used in restaurants similar to an upscale McDonald's. The servers were still trying to be upscale and deal with the degradation of the facility, they even said they tried to explain a $20 bowl of soup should be served with a plate and spoon. They lost their chef and don't plan to replace him for probably a year as they are going to remodel once they decide what kind of restaurant they are going to be. For $50 a person, they had 4 starters, 5 entrees and a desert table that had deserts on 4 of the 12 plates. We could have had better selection, better food and similar service at a restaurant at 1/3 the price. Don't go expecting quality service, quality food and ambiance that the Mansion once enjoyed. From the desk service that had maybe a job once in their life to the ambiance in the restaurant that was half full, but couldn't take reservations because they didn't have enough service personnel to manage, it was a death of an era. We left thinking, we were leaving a funeral of what was once a major part of out entertainment life, it was devastating. Unfortunately, we will not be returning until new management, new service or new quality has been established and that doesn't appear to be soon...

The Mansion at Turtle Creek

By S Alicia S |

The Mansion at Turtle Creek holds an inviting quality. It is situated on an open park. Plenty locals with dogs and frisbees. There seemed to be a model photoshoot going on... Also, the mansion appeared to be closed. I suppose it’s upscale dealing with the pandemic and only open to reservations. I ate elsewhere in Turtle Creek / West Village vicinity. I was dressed casual but in sneakers. It is definitely suit/dress quality dining anyways.

Disappointing

By jpatter1 |

Started with cocktails in the bar. Service was very slow. Slow to take the order. Slower to deliver the drinks. Snacks (fried chick peas?) were mushy and tasteless. In the restaurant, bread was served. The mini baguette was cold, stale and tough. Later, I asked the server for a fresh one. He took the bread off my plate with his hand and walked away. The next one had been warmed slightly. This is the Mansion? Beef tartare is tasty, but served in cubes, including tough and inedible parts. Someone careless prepared this. The tortellini was good but bland. The short rib was excellent. Wine was great ($250). Our primary server was very good. Crème brulee was dense like peanut butter. Torte was very good.

Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch and Dinner...SPECTACULAR!

By CaptivaMe |

For anyone who lives in Dallas, this is the place to have your guests visit for any occasion. Each meal was above and beyond with food and service. Five Stars!! Brunch and Breakfast were just perfection. With perfectly made cappuccinos, the best Mimosa ever (okay, the ones on Captiva were amazing), along with a brioche french toast, fruit and fruit and fruit...we just walked away every time from breakfast completely satisfied. Thank you Ms. Barbara!! Lunch - I had a wonderful Parmesan Caesar Salad with Grilled Shrimp...magnificent and perfect! Dinner - We had several dinners but I would say that our favorite was when the Chef personally visited and made recommendations from his menu. Portions were perfect and not one thing was left on any plate. We loved the Staff! We loved the entire dining experience!

This is a high class place. I was a wedding guest and liked it. Do NOT have your wedding outside. The planes from Love Field fly over every few minutes and are noisy. Check your sound system carefully for wind noise. This was an issue. It sounded like thunder and was just the wind. The step going back into the hotel was a step down threshold and I tripped and sadly, I was stone sober. The food was not as hot as you would expect, but the service was excellent.

Made Reservations!

By SandraAl |

Even during the week we were grateful to have reservations as they were quite busy. Elegant with pleasant service and an extensive wine list. Prices seemed reasonable for environment, location and excellent service and fabulous food. Had a drink at their inviting and comfortable bar before dinner. Don't miss the cauliflower! Best ever. Would love the secret.

Mansion at Turtle Creek

A very elegant restaurant in Dallas to have dinner. I enjoyed the tortellini dish as an entree. Service and food are superb

Lives up to the hype

Yes, the food is amazing and the service is top notch. Probably the best formal restaurant in Dallas.

Fine dining at its best! This is our anniversary celebration spot and we are never disappointed. The best food served in fabulous fashion. Get them to make a Cham-cham for you... you will be glad you asked for it.

Low Key - High End

By TheNJShore |

We had dinner here on a Saturday evening, during a visit to Dallas. Cocktails at the cozy bar were a very nice experience - the bartenders were very friendly and extremely professional. For dinner we were seated in a sort of enclosed porch overlooking a very attractive patio. Service was perfect in every way, attentive without being intrusive. The menu was divided into choice of two different 5 course tasting menus, or appetizers and entrees. We opted for the latter - I had scallops and my wife had duck. We agreed both were very good. This is very high-end food, and I don't really feel qualified to judge it, other than to say the presentation was beautiful and it tasted great, The atmosphere was romantic. The noise level was almost non-existent, even though there were a number of other diners. The Mansion is a fine dining establishment. As a consumer I cannot rate it less than exceptional as to food and service. It is expensive, and value is subjective. The quality of the food and service is in keeping with a higher price. After our meal was finished, my wife and I both agreed we were glad we came, but the experience was missing something. My wife summed it up, "It's a little boring." It was so low-key and quiet that there was really not a lot of "energy" in the restaurant. Not a criticism, but if you like more activity - people watching, activity in the room - you might be better served somewhere else. If I lived in Dallas, this might be a place I would take an older relative for a special dinner.

Expensive/upscale

By Dianna P |

We parked on the side of the road so we wouldn't have to pay for valet parking. The food was beautifully presented and good but expensive. The atmosphere was awesome. I'm glad we splurged as part of my long birthday weekend.

Still a Special Place

By Larry S |

Despite the variety of chefs who have tenured at the Mansion, it is still a special place with quiet, romantic ambiance. The two person corner booths are nice, comfortable and quiet and the Mansion has retained it quality, caring service.

The make over.

History, this is a former upscale, suit and tie with ladies and gentleman transformed into an above average place to eat and drink.

Beautiful and Dlicious

Just had a lovely dinner at the Mansion Restaurant. Salmon is beautifully prepared, succulent and tender. Steak was perfection. Served nicely and graciously. Excellent meal. Highly recommend.

Absolutely Fabulous

By Brian G |

Enjoyed another fabulous Sunday Brunch. The service is top notch, the atmosphere is tremendous and the food is awesome. Had the French toast and roast beef this time and they were really good. The Bloody Mary was pretty good too! Can't wait to go back again.

Great food and elegant environment

By guitardude9587 |

My wife and I met a few friends here for a going away party and was incredibly impressed with this restaurant. The patio is great this time of year by the fire, where we enjoyed apps, desserts and drinks. The staff is incredible knowledgable and professional. I will be coming back here again, if for nothing else, the truffle fries. Do yourself a favor and order them.

Good points - bad points

By 860SusanB860 |

This is a tough review to write because parts of my dining experience were very nice and other parts were pretty horrible. I gave an "average" rating and will need to explain further. My husband and I dined here (the second time in many years) for our anniversary. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and the atmosphere is elegant and romantic. Everything from the table settings, the lighting, and the service is top-notch. The sommelier was very friendly and helped us choose a perfect chardonnay for our meal. Our server, Susan, could not have been any nicer or more helpful - she was a delight. The menu is divided into 2 parts. There are two tasting menus ($100-$110) which we did not select because several items did not interest us. We ordered starters and entrees. Bread baskets were brought by to pick our bread for the evening: baguettes, bacon rolls, and parmesan lavash were available and were all tasty. The Cheese Plate was nice with 5 chef-chosen cheeses, nuts, toast, and an apricot jam. A menu accompanied the plate to give a description of the cheeses. Next up was the Celery Soup. The soup was very well-plated but was lukewarm and not worth the cost ($18) for the portion. My husband ordered the Diver Scallops which came with 3 (three!) regular sized scallops and 2 spoonfuls of black rice ($54). Once again the price of $18 per scallop did not add up - they were nothing special. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, which is one of my favorite dishes. I always order it more on the "well done" side and it was served to me barely browned and extremely raw in the middle. This entree was $60 for a normal size piece of sea bass, no seasoning, with a small amount of snap peas and pea puree. I have had better sea bass at Truluck's, Ocean Prime, and Eddie V's, to name a few - and none cost $60 and all were better tasting. I sent the fish back but it took quite awhile for our server to return with a new plate - my husband had been finished with his meal for some time at this point. The fish was taken off our check, which we did appreciate. Our complimentary "anniversary" dessert was a delicious little heart-shaped tart: half chocolate, half strawberry and vanilla.Overall, the service, wine, and atmosphere made for a perfect anniversary meal. The food - the high prices and small portions - was a HUGE disappointment. I never regret spending money for equally good food, but these menu prices are horrible for the quality and amount of food received. I really expected much more from a fine-dining establishment such as this. Overall, it was a very disappointing meal. The value is not proportionate to the quality/quantity of food served. (Photos are attached illustrating the portions, lack of sauces, and the small sides served with the entrees).

Rosewood Dallas Mansion Restaurant

We had brunch today at the Mansion on Turtle Creek. The food was delicious, and our server, Barbara was excellent! She has worked there 35 years and was very welcoming and gracious. Please visit this well known classic restaurant. It is a special treat for all.

Restaurant is Back

By boldgo |

We have not been to the Mansion in a few years due to the decline in their food. Still exhibits a warm old world charm. The service provided by Susan was exquisite. Informative, patient and caring. She made sure we enjoyed our visit. We had the seafood risotto and crab cake and squash soup to begin followed by the filet and diver scallops. Perfectly cooked and presented. Enjoyed a happy hour in the lounge with their signature G&T and margarita. Very crowded bar scene where the to be seen crowd let’s loose. Great evening.

Wow! What Happened to The Mansion on Turtle Creek

By dealm8ker |

My wife and I haven't been to The Mansion for years. We moved to Texas two years ago. So, we went there today for what I thought was going to be Brunch. We had a Voucher from a Major Travel Site that cost $79 for a $129 Brunch for 2. We had a 9:45am reservation. When we arrived, they told us that Brunch didn't start until 11:00am. They told us that they could not honor the Voucher. . .But, they could apply it to Breakfast at the cost value of $79. We agreed, even though we were losing the extra $50 Value. The Manager didn't offer us any comp for our inconvenience. Not a Muffin, not a cup of coffee. Terrible Customer Service. The food arrived and was terrible. The Biscuits were dry, the gravy was lumpy, the sausage tasted like a burned Slim Jim (Sorry to insult Slim Jim), Eggs Benedict was cold. The food was bad. What happened to this place?

Absolutely Divine.

By Madison M |

We were here at the Rosewood Mansion to celebrate my birthday, perfect property to do so. We started with drinks in the bar. Very extensive cocktail list and friendly and knowledgeable bar staff. Lovely setting. My husband had the spring price fixed menu and I had the gourmand. Both were so excellent. Beautiful prepared and presented and so delicous. My husband is still talking about the 63 degree duck egg! The wait staff was attentive but not overbearing and knowledgeable about the food and wine list. It was one of our top meals ever and a perfect birthday celebration. The Rosewood Mansion at Turtle Creek is wonderful and we would highly recommend a stay here but for sure the dining experience can't be topped easily.

Beautiful evening here!

By Terri B |

The main dining room was beautifully decorated including the table settings! The service was impeccable. They did a fabulous job making sure that our every needs were met! Our food was well presented and delicious Everyone at the table ordered something different but we all ended up with steak envy!!! The filet looked amazing!!!!

Disappointed

By caroleiaap |

I had such high hopes, but came away disappointed. The location was beautiful, the service was mostly excellent (a little too slow on water and the check - a nice leisurely pace for the rest of the dinner - plan at least 2 hours). But three things really bring down my score: 1. The whole table either chooses the tasting menu, or the plated dinners - which is limiting. (We chose individual entrees). 2. There were not enough choices of entrees. Especially when you factor allergies, or dislikes - I think there were seven total; Octopus didn't sound appetizing, allergic to a couple of others, so I was really deciding between venison and wagyu beef. I chose the beef (and my husband got the venison). Venison was too sweet; not sure what sauce was on there. Beef was excellent. 3. Biggest complaint - the menu describes vegetables with each entree - but it is really only a garnish- do not expect anything resembling even a child's portion. For instance, mine said fingerling potatoes and asparagus. That was ONE fingerling potato carved into three bite-sized cylinders, and ONE asparagus spear. My husband got a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. And trust me you are paying a LOT for this meal. On the plus side, they served some excellent bread (according to our friends) and a lot of it (so I suggest you fill up) and they were very accommodating to my allergies.

Best Brunch!

My husband enjoyed the Texas breakfast, and I loved the chicken tortilla soup. They kept the bottomless Bloody Marys flowing. The staff was friendly and professional. Highly recommend as a place to celebrate something special.

A Dallas Landmark

By CadLine |

The Historically Significant Italian Renaissance Mansion remains a jewel but now in need of some TLC to do its past justice. We found the food overall in need of improvement and endless mimosas disappointing. Service was sporadic and the staff a bit unprepared to provide the expected service one would expect of this "grande old dame". None the less, it is worthy of a visit for the wonderful architecture and beautiful grounds.

Management is rude

By FellowTraveler741403 |

I tried to book a table for 8 people on a non-holiday November weekend (not Thanksgiving, CMAS, Valentine's Day, Easter or Mother's Day) to celebrate my husband's birthday with friends. After my phone call was finally returned 2 weeks later, I was told that a table greater than 6 people was required to have a Prix Fixe menu. When I asked to speak with the manager, he was extraordinarily rude and told me he hoped we would have a great time elsewhere. I don't know who these people think they are. My husband and I had hosted wonderful celebratory dinners here for many years, but after this treatment, we are going elsewhere. They are not worth it.

Chef Parlo's Inventiveness Delights!

By Jerri G |

From initially no valet to take our car (but being greeted very apologetically by the valet at the door) to not having our reservation, but good naturedly getting us the best table by the fireplace, we had a terrific meal and evening. We had 2 of each course: teaser, substance and dessert. Farro risotto, Foie Gras, Texas boar, Smoked pheasant, Fall sensation and Texas evening. Every dish had so much flavor, texture and visual intrigue. We really enjoyed ourselves and had a Justin Cab Franc/Merlot to complement the meal. Service was warm and professional.

Disappointed top to bottom

By jimC5902KP |

I booked a table for 7 for 5:30 PM on Sunday to celebrate our granddaughter's confirmation. I specifically booked for the patio since the weather is nice this time of year.. Upon arriving we were asked to wait till the table was set and offered a table inside with a different menu that was three time pricier. We were finally seated and then told that the sun would beat down on us and we would be more comfortable in the main dinning room. I am an outdoors person and knew quite well that the sun was not going to beat down on us. We ordered an charcuterie plate and it came with 3 empanadas. Asked twice for additional empanadas but they never came. The food was uneatable. I had a reuben sandwich with grease laying on the bottom of the plate. The sandwich made me sick and I was up all night. My wife ordered a wrap that she did not eat it tasted so bad. all told, there were exactly 2 couples in the main dining room and two other folks on the terrace when we left about 7 PM The place was deserted.

Classic Service in a Beautiful Setting

By Matthew C |

A lunch for one in between client meetings. The loggia seating by the garden is delightful. It’s bright and sunny and classically appointed. Service is warm and welcoming and the menu welcomes all sorts of diners whether you have a quick moment or plan a leisurely afternoon. A classic bread tray always starts things off properly. Soups, salads and sandwiches cover all the classic favorites but each with a signature touch that makes them unique to here. Entrees are large and a dessert selection that most restaurants would envy for dinner service. Definitely a step into the past with quality service that is enhanced further by excellent delivery on the cuisine. Bravo!

Reluctant, second-try fail

By Jessica P |

This is my second review for The Mansion at Turtle Creek. Reluctantly, I went back to The Mansion. I wanted to give the establishment another chance, especially after management was responsive to my previous review. Unfortunately, it was another fail. Here's how the evening went: 1. When my party and I walked into the bar area, someone had just vomited on the floor. It smelled horribly, and instead of protecting its guests from the smell, they allowed people to walk right by the incident. 2. The lounge area was pretty busy and our cocktail waitress, Lindsey, was occupied serving other tables. So, I took it upon myself to walk to the bar to order my second glass of wine (which was good) through the bartender. I told him where I was sitting and that Lindsey (she was lovely) had been helping us, but that she had been very busy as she was the only cocktail on staff that evening with a packed lounge. Ten minutes later, the wine never showed. Seemingly, somewhere someone forgot about my request. Its this attention to detail that justifies an establishment, like The Mansion on Turtle Creek, its right to charge the prices for what it serves. Smoke and mirrors- looks pretty on the outside, but when you actually experience what they have to 'offer' the facade is apparent. My original review still stands. If you'd like excellent hospitality in a hotel-like setting while visiting Dallas, stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Crescent, or Le Meridian The Stoneleigh.

Extremely Disappointed

By dlbt |

Shockingly sad to experience the decline of such a landmark of Dallas. Always a favorite of mine, the family took me to lunch again for Mother's Day. We had a private, beautiful, old room upstairs which was delightful, however, the service was extremely slow, the food was cold and the valet was so rude to my daughter and grandson I was shocked. Having been such a destination for excellent food since it became the Mansion, I was surprised at the level of poor food today, from the appetizer being luke warm and the risotto not cooked appropriately, to the main course being lackluster and dessert was benign. Hopefully, they will locate a new chef, beef up the attentiveness of the staff and return this beautiful restaurant to days gone by.

Birthday dinner

This place is exquisite. Service is fantastic, ambiance is perfect. I had a broken leg, and they brought me something to prop my leg on. 100% recommend.

Memorable dining experience!!!

Chef Tom is genius!! My friends and I had Chef Tasting menu at the Mansion last Wednesday. It's an Experience!!! We were surprised by not only all the dishes which were prepared just for us but also lovely imported and domestic wine paring!! Ray, our host, took very good care of us. He made sure that our night was the magnificent one!!!

Great Place for a Birthday Brunch

By Gran7 |

What a fabulous way to celebrate my birthday this year. Sunday breakfast at The Mansion is spectacular. The pancakes are some of the fluffiest you will ever taste with delicious vanilla cream and maple syrup. A blueberry muffin appeared with a candle to celebrate the day. They have other great egg choices and really crispy bacon. The prices are most reasonable.

Picked the wrong place for our 40th!

By DLPlovestotravel |

We had two meals here while staying at the hotel.....brunch with friends on Saturday and dinner alone that same night. The food was very good both times and the service good at brunch. We were seated on the enclosed veranda and really enjoyed it. But dinner was extremely disappointing, especially because it was our 40th Anniversary! First, I had ordered a small cake a month in advance and an hour before our reservation was told that they must have lost the order and we wouldn’t have one. Second, we were seated in the back corner of a back room, which wouldn’t have been so bad, but the table was right next to the ‘waiter’s pantry’ and had waiter traffic constantly by our table! Also, i was seated where my only view was THE INSIDE OF THE WAITER’S PANTRY! I looked at a stack of trays, dirty dishes and a wine tub for one hour and forty-five minutes! The waiter was very aloof and I don’t believe he ever once told us happy anniversary. The service was slow as he was the only waiter for that dining room. We were given a complimentary dessert because of the cake debacle, but only after we had ordered deserts and they were served to us.....so we ended up with three deserts for two people! The whole meal was a complete and total disappointment, as we thought this would be our best option to splurge for a ‘special’ anniversary. The pastry chef came out gave her apologies in person about the cake, which was very sweet. The food was good but the menu is very limited. We won’t be back!

Nice to find a quiet restaurant with some ambience!

By sev t |

The Mansion on Turtle Creek. We came here for the Restaurant Week menu on a Saturday for ~530pm reservation, the restaurant normally opens at 6pm so it was quite, nonetheless it did fill up quickly as 6pm came by. This has plenty of atmosphere / ambience in the dining room, richly decorated ceiling and nicely adored surroundings. Alternately, you can ask to go out on the enclosed patio for something less stuffy and see the hotel grounds from the windows. We sat at one of the corners of the main dining room with an oval-shaped table near the window and waiter's pantry / prep room - I can see why some people don't like this table as there is some waiter traffic here (we were early so it was minimal). For two, we choose Restaurant Week courses as follows... 1st course: watermelon gazpacho - j&d farm’s watermelon, smoked pork jowl, and heirloom tomato salad - spicy corn bread, goat cheese, sherry vinegar, basil 2nd course: grilled texas quail(2), bourbon succotash, pickled tomato, and rosewood wagyu beef culotte, rainbow carrots, vidalia onion $10 supplement 3rd course: flourless chocolate cake passion fruit crème, coconut tuile, and orange crème brulee almond biscotti, seasonal fruit. Our waiter introduced himself and said that he has been here for ~40 years - that is some dedicated service! When asked, the waiter actually gave us an illustration of where the 'culotte' is located. We started with a demitasse of the tortilla soup. All the courses were fine although the Quail was mostly boney ~two forks worth of meat per quail. And I don't understand why the restaurants in restaurant week are adding up-charges on the main entrées (this being the 3rd to do so) seems to defeat the intent of Restaurant Week IMO!! On the positive that stuck in my mind was the bread server who came around periodically and offering 3 different breads - that's rather nice than the typical just once as you arrive! Nonetheless, Service was impeccable. Ambience was outstanding affording to the location. It was nice to finely eat at a quiet restaurant for our (14) restaurants week extravaganza. I wasn't overly impressed with the menu nor food but finely finding a quieter restaurant actually was refreshing so we enjoyed the ambience of the Mansion.

Go Once for the Experience

By Muhammad K |

I heard this was "the" restaurant in Dallas so took my wife for birthday. Service is phenomenal, wine list actually had reasonable priced options (had a great Gigondas for under a 100 bucks) food is stellar. So why only a 4 star rating? frankly its not worth the price, don't get me wrong i knew what i was getting into but we eat a lot of fine dining in particular French food and you can get comparable food even if its a slight notch below for about $200 a couple when you go all out (three courses, cocktails and a bottle of wine) as opposed $400 a couple. However do go once, worth the experience.

Valentines Day Plans Ruined

By Kelly R |

This review isnt based on my food or service experience at the restaurant but with booking a reservation. This isn't my first time at the restaurant, I started coming here about 10 years ago ( maybe more). I have stayed and dined at many Rosewood hotels worldwide but The Mansions has been a little hit or miss. This was an absolute miss. As a policy there should be a cut off period for reserving a whole restaurant. I had Valentines Day dinner (as well as a 50th birthday celebration) with my husband booked months in advanced and secured with a credit card. 17 days prior to Valentines Day it was cancelled due to someone buying out the entire restaurant. I know private events happen but at what point is there a cut off. Everyone who was left with a cancelled reservation now has nothing available since most good restaurants are now completely booked. The only compensation I have received is being told that they would have concierge try to find a restaurant available. I managed to contact one of the Michelin Starred restaurants in town and told them my situation and they were able to contact me. I still have had no communication from said Concierge. I am not planning on holding my breath. I would say if you plan on making a reservation to this restaurant (especially on special occassions or holidays) have a back up plan because it is absolutely possible it will be cancelled with no time to make a back up plan. Rosewood Hotel restaurants have always been a great experience with no issues. This type of poor planning and lack of customer care isnt what you would expect with a 1 Key hotel. Your hotel chain is supposed to pride itself on service....DO BETTER.

Very nice and very high end. Food and service was great. We had the lobster and salmon, which was very large portions.

Very Over-rated

By BuddyHotel |

I have heard of this place and was looking forward to it. We were seated right by the entrance where everyone would pass by my table going in and out of the restaurant. So requested a different table. There were plenty. We had been in the bar where the crowd was under 30 and getting hammered. Now the bartenders were great! The crab bisque was way over done and dry even in the sauce. Sent it back. The pork belly was very good. The Waiter said there were othe complaints with the crab. We both had the Red Snapper and could not finish it. Over cooked and cold and no taste. You have to try to do than. We told the waiter and the manager. It did not matter. Huge disappointment. Others have had the same so there is really something going on here. Save your money.

Very Elegant Dining

The Mansion restaurant on Turtle Creek offers a very elegant and romantic dining experience. The tasting menu is the best way to enjoy the many choices on the menu. You are never rushed and the noise level is perfect for quiet conversation. We love eating at the Mansion!

Perfect for a relaxing lunch

By eoinjen |

Beautiful restaurant in the hotel. It was a gorgeous day and my friend and I were able to sit outside. I felt like I was at a spa or a cafe in Europe. Great menu selections and not too expensive. Soups, salads and excellent sandwich selections. The waitstaff were friendly and very professional. There's valet parking, so no worries about finding a parking spot. Lovely soft music in the background and no crowds. Perfect place for a long lunch with friends or a romantic lunch.

Restaurant Week

By Runtoseetheworld |

Many restaurants on restaurant week will dump their cheap menu options onto the $49 3-course meal menu. I was pleasantly surprised that our meals at the mansion were absolutely wonderful. We were made to feel very welcome, their service was exceptional. The restaurant week menu was thought out and executed perfectly. The pork belly with melon was delightful, and I don't think I have experienced octopus cooked to such tenderness!! Instead of being an afterthought like most restaurant week menus, the desserts finished the night wonderfully. We thoroughly enjoyed the raspberry panna cotta and the pot of chocolate.

Birthday dinner

By travelingsteve55 |

We celebrated my brothers birthday here last night and it is still a spectacular place to visit and celebrate an occasion or milestone. Its pricey but the service is spectacular, the food is exceptional and the wine list is very good. Even the "by the glass and half bottle" selection was better than you usually see. I love their foir gras but it wasn't on the menu. But I asked our server if they could make it and volia it was no problem. Highly recommend. Lively bar too after dinner.

The Mansion BAR

By Runtoseetheworld |

This cosy little bar is separate to the main restaurant, styled like an English Drawing Room, it makes for an intimate setting for a pre (or post) dinner drink. We thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails- the PEACH PLEASE has some bite without being overly sweet. The UP ALL NIGHT goes down very smoothly and the pineapple vodka was not too over-powering. The band started to play from 9pm, i wish we could have stayed a little longer.

Tasting menu supreme

By Jeff C |

We enjoyed a phenomenal culinary experience to celebrate a graduation. The chef’s tasting menu was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Each course was imaginative, tasty and plated exquisitely. Service was extraordinary, with constant refreshes of water and homemade rolls. They can accommodate Gluten- Free diet restrictions. The wine list is close to 40 pages, with the sommelier knowledgeable about all wines and drinks on the menu. All in all, a most enjoyable experience!

A wonderful brunch experience at a gorgeous hotel property

By Marie A |

Brunch was lovely. The service was wonderful and the ambiance was fabulous. I set next to a fireplace since the weather didn’t cooperate and now need to come back for the bar scene on my next visit.

What a shame

By Toro4 |

Very disappointing. Still one of the best settings in all of Dallas. We have been coming here for 30 years. It has not lived up to its potential for a long time now. Several people in our party ordered hamburgers from the "bar food menu" on The Mansion Terrace and we all agreed it had to be one of the worst hamburgers we have had in Dallas in years. The flavor and quality of the beef was strange and not appetizing. The composition of the burger with the brioche bun was odd and passé but might've been OK had the quality of the brioche bun been better. It tasted Eggie and fresh frozen. The fries were cold. Can hardly believe that anybody in Dallas could ruin a burger, much less The Mansion. It has been years, I think they really need to take a serious look at the management, kitchen, menu, staff and really get back to doing the simple things right.

Beautiful room, wonderful food!

By cfshanks |

We were seated in the wood paneled fireplace room where the waiter spent time telling us about the history of the mansion, showing us the secret doorway in the room and the carved figures of the mansion's owners on the mantle. If was easy to visit among the four of us and the food was fantastic. The prices are high, but you pay for the experience. We enjoyed it a lot.

Spot on great!

By mobeetie |

From beginning to end, this was a delightful dining experience. Hugo, our waiter, was terrific. Always there when needed, but never when not. Service was A+ . The house made gin and tonic was touted as unique and first rate. It was. My wife's first course was risotto with mussels. I had the seared foie gras with cornbread and pumpkin ice cream. Oh my. Both were outstanding. Entrees of smoked pheasant and black bass followed and were picture perfect and just as delicious. The garnish for each and the accompanying sauces completed the experience. And then the desserts. Blueberry tort and the apple bread pudding, yummy. Complements to the chef and his varied menu. Well done, Mansion.

A gastronomic experience...but we left hungry!

By Michael S |

Our dinner at The Mansion was truly a feast for the eyes. Each beautifully created dish was magnificent. They were works of art and expressed the creative genius of a world class chef. Truly "deconstructed", the beet gazpacho consisted of spoons, each of which contained the ingredients, but, alas, no soup. Likewise, the lobster cioppino consisted of chunks of lobster, beans, fish and mussels...but not the classic broth (although I must admit that in Marseilles we had enjoyed a world-class bouillabaisse in which the "soup" was served first, and the fishes which had been cooked within, were served as the second course). My incredible chicken was beautiful and delicious, but I lusted for just a bit more. The spring risotto was flavored with zesty lemon and peas "al dente" in a creamy perfect base...if only I could have had a few more spoonfuls. The desserts were superb, including the chefs selections of unique sorbets and ice creams. And as always, my "mark" of a great restaurant, French press coffee. A wonderful dining experience for "foodies" but don't go hungry!

Excellent in every way

By Robert R |

Hard to figure out where the few negative reviews come from as this restaurant was one of the few that justified the significant price you paid. Service was outstanding from start to finish -- attentive, informative, but not overbearing. The pacing of the meal was wonderful, in contrast to many other establishments whose first priority seems to be to turn the table over as quickly as possible. The quality of the food was excellent and despite what others have said we found the portion sizes to be quite adequate and certainly flavorful. The only negative we found was the fact that you have to wade your way back through the bar in order to get to the restroom which, if it was a busy Saturday night which also had a wedding going on, could be quite a challenge. Still a wonderful experience and probably the best all-around meal we've had in the past 5 years in Dallas.

Old time Dallas classy

Went for brunch on Sunday. Had the Bacon Apple Cakes. Three pancakes with apple slices baked into to top of the cake, sprinkled with Applewood smoked bacon bits, topped with a generous helping of whipped cream. Absolutely delicious. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere to match. Truly a classy experience.

Excellent with a Few Oops

One of my BIG pet peeves is when reservations are made at a fine dining establishment, the restaurant is nearly empty and you are seated at a table in the middle of the room next to a side room filled with people celebrating some occasion. That is what happened to us at the Mansion. We couldn't even hear our waiter so we asked to be moved to one of the intimate corner tables. Why didn't they put us there in the first place? The food was excellent and our waiter was very good so the rest of the evening deserves an excellent rating. Wish it would have started that way. PS - the next day we had breakfast in the same room and the same guy sat us right next to the only other occupied table. Really? We moved ourselves this time.

Excellent Hotel Restaurant

The first night of my stay I enjoyed an excellent salad and glass of wine in their bar. The wine list was outstanding and the bartender was perfectly friendly. I also had lunch another day and the service and food were excellent!

Poor service, cold poorly prepared food.

Was so excited to have group lunch with some favorite women at the Mansion. What a huge disappointment. We had a set menu with several choices. After being seated we waited 25 minutes for the first course of soup and salad. This was fine although the soup was only warm. We were offered a choice of three sandwiches. I made the mistake of telling a waiter that spoke no English how much I enjoyed the sauerkraut on my reuben sandwich. After the entire room had been served, the waiter arrived with a sandwich with NO sauerkraut. I again told him yes I wanted sauerkraut. After dessert was served I again received a cold soggy sandwich with cold fries and NO sauerkraut. The dessert was a store bought macaroon and only half of us were offered coffee. The following day we had lunch at the Petroleum Club - wow! The Mansion needs to go there to learn how to serve an excellent lunch to a group.

Terrific Food and Service in Beautiful Setting

Were staying at hotel, so booked the Mansion on OpenTable. (Be sure and make a reservation well in advance, especially on a weekend night!) Stopped by the bar first, which I recommend for a cocktail, if you tell them you are dining in the restaurant, they will come get you when your table is ready. Once we finished our cocktail, we were escorted to a romantic corner table (very nice) our servers were there immediately and just took care of us. We listened to their recommendations and made our selections...my husband got the pesky toe crab and I got a scallop starter. Both were wonderful. We then moved on to the dover sole...both of us, we just love this fish, so we didn't get two different things to try. The sole was wonderful and not too giant a portion as it sometimes can be. They then brought me a beautiful port wine to finish and husband got a sweet taste. We really had a wonderful evening on our couples shopping weekend getaway. Highly recommend!

How the Mighty has Fallen, yet still Terrific

To visit, after leaving DFW 25 yrs ago, and seeing Michelin-rated type places like In/Out Burger & Medieval Times rated above The Mansion is kinda shocking. Regardless, visited this old friend where friends/family/I enjoyed many an evening of great food, drink & surroundings over the years. Happy to report that seemingly nothing has changed nor "gone down hill". I still think the best way to enjoy The Mansion is to try their "tasting menu" ... otherwise, you have to agonize over your selection process. Flawless service, so nice & gracious atmosphere - yet not stuffy like many of the nearby "Bubble" restaurants ... you know, like Cafe Pacific where the society matrons come to pretend & the young peacocks come to gawk & be seen. None of that nonsense here. The Mansion is not about advertising you; rather, it is about giving you a nice evening respite from those In/Out Burger type places. &, be sure to save room for their desserts over a favorite liquor; it's still an all too rare treat.

Warm Winter's Dinner in Lady Primrose's Long Shadow

By Karen M |

Quiet dinner with Mansion guests in town for Home & Decor Market. Restaurant Operations Mgr Ryan Harvey + our server delivered attentive service. Bottles of Savignon Blanc, Lobster Bisque, Crab Cakes, Butternut Squash Soup & Black Truffle Butternut Squash were joined by bread and Pecan/Caramel dessert. The dining was Mansion-Fine--dishes unrushed, special requests honored. It was my 1st visit since Mrs. Hunt's passage, and a nod to her high standards of hospitality. A woman in our party would've benefitted by exposure to the Founder's temperance in opinions, speech & habits. I refused to let her self-absorption foil a fabulous meal at our Sparkling Dallas Culinary Gem. Order a G&T at the cozy Library Bar when there for any reason!

Extraordinarily Imaginative!

By Bobgamber |

In the original part of the Mansion, it affords a feeling of intimate dining. The menu is small but extraordinarily imaginative. My wife (more adventurous than I) chose one of two prix fixe five course menus. A "salad" of frozen pureed watermelon and rind with ginger; a scallop, lamb's belly, squab and a three part dessert I won't attempt to describe. Everything (yes, even the belly) was delicious. I had fois gras on cornbread and scallops. Again, delicious. We even had coffee, after dinner drinks and smokes on their spacious patio. It is large enough that none of the three groups out there with us complained of my cigar. The experience lasted three hours and was worth every minute and penny spent.

Dined here for Dallas Restaurant Week

By 860SusanB860 |

I just dined here for lunch for the yearly Dallas Restaurant Week. The menu consisted of 2 courses for $20, 3 courses for $32, and an add-on side for an additional $8. Service was prompt and courteous. The table was beautifully set and the dining room was lovely. A wonderful flavored tea and bread selection was served at the beginning of our meal. The portions were rather small but everything tasted delicious. The famous tortilla soup, the pulled pork, and the salmon were all most enjoyable. The orange creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake for dessert were both tasty and beautifully plated and very small. I had one small issue when I asked for my leftovers to be boxed up and they never came back to the table. When asked about them, I was told the server did not hear me and disposed of them. Apologies were made and I was given a full take-out order of my meal - which I fully appreciated. (They made a delicious dinner, by the way.) Another small issue was that our party of 10 had a $5.00 surcharge added for a "large group" then another $5.00 added for tip. We were all a little surprised that an extra $10 had been added to each of our checks with no prior notification. Some of the members of my party were quite put-off by this. I have always been impressed with the food and quality of service at The Mansion but the prices are really high for the portions of food received. I would love to see them be a little more competitive with so many other great restaurants in the Dallas area.

Underwhelming

If you like a tired property, horrible service and lots of hookers, this is your place. This was probably a nice place 30 years ago.

Tumbled off a cliff

By 54Pat_A |

The Mansion was once a great restaurant, and I used to enjoy dining there (and did so frequently) when I lived and worked in the Turtle Creek area. Having not been there for several years, I recently decided to revisit the place to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Very bad call on my part. On the positive side - the restaurant still has a certain understated elegance that I like, the service is very professional, and the wine list is quite good. On the negative side - well, it's the food. The food is very average. It evidences neither the culinary inspiration nor the care in preparation that one expects to find in a fine dining establishment. You can find food just as good or better for one-third the price in literally dozens of restaurants in the Dallas area. The Mansion has fallen off a cliff and it's a very long climb back to the top.

I really, really good wanted

By Lauren and Jim Booker |

I really, really good wanted to like this place. It is absolutely darling inside and out. My husband and I decided on the chef tasting with wine parings. The sommelier came and spoke to us. She was very knowledgeable. We ordered we ask if the could accommodate my food allergy with the tasting. I am allergic to mushrooms. They assured me that would be no problem. That’s when it went down hill. The wines were coming out faster than the food. My husband and I had completely different dishes when we did receive food and mine was absolutely horrible. It felt like I was being punished for asking for an accommodation. My husband said his was fair at best. We made the choice after the 3 course to leave and pay. They did impress me with making us only pay for the wine, which was not what we were after.

Fabulous Friday Night in the Bar with Live Music

By GrapeHeart |

The Mansion bar is a lively classic not to be missed! One of their cutting edge mixologists will create your favorite drink or cruise the terrific wine by the glass list for a great selection. Coated pecans and olives are served complimentary with drinks and all seating is comfortable. Service is excellent. Lighting is dim and music is great. We enjoyed Hunter Sullivan who sings lots of Sinatra and think that style of music is frequent for the bar. A little dancing might spring up in the lower level of the bar. Nice food options too in the bar.

Cigars on the patio

By ssalmon88 |

One of my friends that is a regular at this location asked us to join him on the patio for cigars by this gorgeous fire pit. I thought it would go smoothly but had a turn for the worse. At first I thought my waiter was super slammed maybe so but he didn’t seem to be all there either. My group gave out orders as one by one we kept noticing something was missing. He kept forgetting to get items so we had to call over the manager. The manager in turn helped as best as he could. Our friend was shocked by all this stating this never happens. On another note what we ordered was over cooked and we didn’t get our appetizers till the very end of the meal. Not sure I will be returning. Very disappointed.
