Best breakfast in SD

Lots of vegan options! Lots of coffee drinks, great service, huge portions and reasonable price. In a great neighborhood with cute shops as well. Yummy, yummy!

Amazing Breakfast

By Victoria P |

It was the day after Christmas. Thought there would be a wait, but had a table in 5 minutes. Menu is big and had a lot to chose from. The Mission is open and loud so don't expect peacefulness. I ordered the roast beef hash and eggs, enough to feed 2 maybe 3. My daughter ordered the breakfast quesadillas with black beans. And my son ordered the....I don't know, but it was served with verde sauce and Hugh plate. I tried all the plates.....so good. All the food was great. I was the only one to bring home a "doggy bag". This place is a gold mine! And will return.

Good food

By Raquel L |

Some people LOVE this place and I often take visiting guests. They are known far and wide for friendly, local favorites. My only reason for not giving the 5 stars is because I think their coffee is too strong, but that's just me - I've been with people who go there solely for their coffee.

Go, Go, Go

Go to " The Mission" when visiting the San Diego area. I normally don't fall for the hype in tourest rags, but they were spot on about the mission. We visited the establishment in North Park, and from the moment we walked in, Frank recomments the Gingerbread Latte.. Watch out starbuck, they beat you on this one. Serve in a pint glass, it was the perfect temperature, color, and frothiness. It tasted pretty darn good as well. For breakfast, my wife had the franch toast. Perfectly done and a huge portion. I had the roast beef hash and eggs. Sooooo good. The rosemary toast with their homemade jelly was simply delicious. The potatos were perfectly cooked and the best I ever had as they were seasoned perfectly. Hands down, simply one of the best, if not the best, breakfasts to be had in San Diego. Should you try "The Mission?" Just look at the picture and judge for yourself.

Amazing neighborhood place

By MITCHELL D B |

I’ve been a regular here for 3 years. I love the Papas Loco. The Chilaquiles are delicious. They also have some good vegan options if that’s your thing. The sweet stuff on the Menu is great too. The Staff are amazing. They treat me like part of the family. Many of them have worked here for 20 years . I highly recommend this place.

Go hungry

By BlueHighwaysGal |

This renovated brewery/saloon is charming, and very popular. Once you see the menu (and other diner's orders coming from the kitchen), you'll understand why. Prepare to tarry, and to need a nap after eating.

Pancake heaven

By Angel F |

We arrived early on Sunday with about a 10 minuet wait. They were really quick about getting everyone seated. Had the granola banana pancakes which where so fluffy with a bit of crunch from the granola. Also had a side of Rosemary potatoes which were also perfectly done with a crunchy outside and soft center. But the pancakes were so large it was a bit much so bring your appetite!

Reliably Good with Nice Vibe

By djphaneuf |

Had my favorite blackberry pancakes with a side of rosemary potatoes. My wife had breakfast burrito. Everything was excellent and this place has a nice vibe.

Great breakfast!

By karlruth |

Great selection, quality, inventive food & service! It is centrally located in the Mission/Pacific Beach area.

Wonderful local feel!

By TALaff |

This was a great place for bfast! Has a great local feel to it! We sat outside & enjoyed the wonderful SD weather & had a great Cali bfast! I loved the rosemary potatoes & bread so much I'm gettin a rosemary plant when I get home so I can try to make some!

Great neighborhood breakfast spot, interesting menu

By TooMuch2Do |

We arrived before the 7 am opening on a Saturday morning. It began to fill up around 8:15 when we left, but still no line. Looked like lots of regulars, which is always a good sign. As others have mentioned, the coffee was excellent and the server kept our cups brimming. The menu has standard breakfast items with an interesting twist. The rosemary bread toast was soft with nice flavor, as were the rosemary potatoes. My chicken apple sausage had a spicy kick to it. My husband's pancakes were soft and fluffy with bananas embedded in them--delicious. The interior is serviceable, not trendy but doesn't pretend to be. It's not a destination restaurant, but a nice neighborhood spot where a tourist can feel like a local.

Highly over-rated. Very average

By GatorBM |

We stopped by on a recommendation from a friend, and left less than impressed. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes, and waited more than an hour to be seated (with two hungry kids it was difficult to stick it out but we had already committed to the wait). The wait staff was extremely friendly, and once we put our orders in the food came quickly, but it was bland. I give the third star for the great service, otherwise I would have had to lean more towards a two star.

Delightfully casual & delicious

By Catherine H |

Not far from Balboa Golf Course, this cafe caters to conscientious foodies who enjoy a neighborhood vibe. And yes it's Tue the serving sizes remind me of Texas. The service was impeccable & food delicious.

A great/better alternative to Breakfast Republic

By gojushiho |

we went here as we could not get seated any time this decade at Breakfast Republic. While we did wait a bit, we were seated fairly quickly and the food was just fine. May not have the same coolness factor as does BR --but it is every bit as good.

Delicious! Definitely a MUST!

By evelynmat |

I love going to The Mission! the food is amazing and I'm really not exaggerating. The lines are long all the time even if you come in early thinking you're going to beat the line you're met with like-minded people. Either way I believe the food is worth the wait. If you're in San Diego and around North Park area I highly recommend The Mission for brunch.

Best Place for Breakfast in SD

By Luis L |

I bring my family here for breakfast on a regular basis. The menu is excellent and I like the fact that the have ample gluten free alternatives for menus and bread; the portions are large, and the service is good. In addition, your coffee can ask and recieve almond milk with your coffee. Highly recommended, but expect to wait to get in. Cheers!

Super Sweet French Toast

By Molly M |

This was a cute little place, the french toast tasted like a cinnamon roll flattened and grilled like french toast. It was super sweet. Husband had the quesadilla and loved it.

Excellent Breakfast

By Margarita G |

We've eaten three times at this restaurant while visiting in San Diego and we never find a thing to complain about. They're consistent with their friendly service amid the super busy hours. The food maintains its great quality and generous portion. I like the family atmosphere of this place. I also like the noise and you could feel the positive energy. Everyone is enjoying their food. We always buy two loaves of their delicious and warm cinnamon bread to take home. Regarding the wait...it's expected in a popular place like this restaurant and we enjoy the wait outside and even make conversation to other folks waiting. It makes the time go passby fast. Such a pleasant experience when we are in SD. I am happy to recommend this restaurant,

Excellent Brunch place

By Jpendejo |

Found this place through Google search. We wanted someplace different, and this was it. First coffee latte was great. Try the Tamales, excellent. We ordered a side of pancakes, with fruit, and they were outstanding. Service was quick, food was fresh, and prices were not ridiculous.

Amazing food

By Christina C |

Food is really good, and worth the wait. It was very loud when we were here and it seemed to be very busy a lot of the time.

Only ok

By GloriaMaria0403 |

There isn't anything bad about the place. But if you listen to others rave about it, you expect a big 'wow'. I thought it was over-rated, and have each time I have eaten there (4x total). I had the Mission French Toast and a side order of scrambled eggs and bacon. There was a lot of thick bread, which is fine as a filler. But I don't think for someone who doesn't care about gluten free items, that the prices are value for what you get.

Strong Coffee

By shaun m |

It's worth going here for just the coffee, it's all from cafe Moto which is a very good coffee distributer here in San Diego. The food is OK, it's above average, reasonably priced, and large potions, but not exactly breath taking by any means. The service is always great, I really do like all the folks that work there. Worth the wait...

Excellent breakfast!!

By Carolina |

Good service, great food. Crowded but we didn't had to wait too long. People was very nice! The french toast were delicious same as the coffee.

Good breakfast in North Park

By Skogskyrkan |

We had a great breakfast at The Mission, enjoying the sweet pancakes and the Mexican breakfast. Food was good, the location central, but be there early - long queues awaiting!

Great breakfast spot

By C-Note831 |

We've been coming to this spot for years. When we come into town, it's a must stop on our list. We go back and forth between the North Park location and the Mission Beach spot. Coffee is good, dark and strong. That's a must for me, and they never disappoint. Always the same, and worth every drop. Pancakes are off the chain, but I stick with the heuvos dishes. The place is pretty good about accommodating subtle changes to menu, as they have some gluten-free dishes, but we tend to make our own creations from the ones that are typically filled with that gluten we all love, but pay for later. Line was pretty long on Saturday, but worth the wait. This place seems to keep their local vibe, and the service is great.

Bueno!

By This Ole Mama |

This was our last meal before heading to the airport and boy, it was delicious! What a great departure from traditional breakfast fare! We ordered the breakfast quesadilla, apple chicken sausage & eggs, and vegetarian breakfast tamales. The food was great, large portions, and our server, Tara, was helpful and friendly.

Great Breakfast spot near the beach!

By Andrew |

Breakfast was fantastic. Tried the french toast, eggs, bacon, and potatoes. All was delicious. The coffee was great as well. Staff was friendly and prices reasonable. I plan to go back when in the area, would highly recomend to anyone.

Good breakfast

By Ast987 |

Very good spot for big breakfast! You can eat outside or inside. Very good mexican cooking. Good quality of service

🥞 Pancakes for days!! 🥞

By Chifriedchicken |

Flipping amazing food! If you don’t stop here it’s will be a huge loss. Pancakes for days 🥞 so far my favorite place to eat in good ole San Diego, California!

A gem

By cperrera |

Awesome breakfast. Outstanding blueberry cornmeal pancakes, crispy bacon, and coffee to knock yer socks off. This place rocks a cool vibe, friendly service, really interesting original art on the walls. Score a table outside if you can, but inside is fine too.

Best breakfast

By JustDani |

Absolutely loved this place. We visited it twice on our week-long family vacation. First time was a Tuesday morning; we walked from our hotel and it was not terribly busy. The service was excellent. We were with our 3 year old daughter and the waitress gave us plenty of time to make our decisions. We ordered the French Toast, Strawberry-Banana pancakes and a side of the Chicken Apple Sausage. We all left pleased and full. Our second visit was on Saturday. We drove, parking was slightly difficult to find, but glad we did not have the stroller with, as the place was swamped. Service was still high quality(managed to get 3 refills of coffee, which is unexpected in high traffic), and food still came out quickly and prepared properly. This time we had the rosemary potatoes, blackberry pancakes, and another order of the French toast(yes, it is that good!). I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and will visit them again if we ever return to San Diego.

Best Breakfast San Diego

By JasonC |

Best breakfast / brunch in San Diego! Awesome food selection and super friendly staff! Both sweet and savory selections are great!

Don’t miss the cinnamon French toast!

By jenkorba |

We showed up for brunch at 12:30 on a Sunday. There were groups standing outside waiting for a table, but since we were only a party of three we were seated almost immediately. Service was good, food was fantastic. We each ordered a brunch entree, but after taking one look at the cinnamon French toast at the table next to me, I got an order to share with the table. So glad I did!!! If you are a fan of French toast, do not miss this!! Everything was great. We will definitely be back!

Great breakfast!

By RuRuStatesboro |

This is by far our favorite breakfast place in San Diego! They have a very varied menu-my favorite is the Homemade cinnamon bread made into French toast! My husband got Blackberry pancakes and he loved them! Our daughter got a zen. Breakfast-it is her favorite!! I highly recommend this place for a real treat that is good for your value!!

Truly excellent pancakes

By John A |

I come to The Mission because of the pancakes. The blackberry banana pancakes are particularly good. The french toast is another highlight, well worth a try if you can tear yourself away from the pancakes. If you aren't feeling pancakes, The Mission has a variety of great breakfasts centered around soyrizo. The roast beef hash is delicious. They also have great rosemary bread and potatoes, which come with almost everything. While I'm glad for their success, a part of me wishes The Mission was a secret. The North Park and Mission Beach locations are extremely popular, especially on weekends. Waits can be especially long during peak brunch hours, like many of the elite San Diego breakfast spots. The best time to go is early on a weekday, but it is worth the wait if you're willing to stand around. Park around the corner next to the elementary school. There is typically parking off University.

I wish I lived nearby

By TehachapiWarren |

I escaped from a conference based at the Crowne Plaza in Mission Valley to this gem based on a ten best breakfasts in San Diego. So many interesting choices...I went with a breakfast quesadilla; so good! Black beans on the side, a little dollop of sour cream, fresh cilantro, a cup of just spicy enough salsa...near perfect. Great service, good coffee, come right when they open at 7 on weekdays and you'll be very pleased.

Not your typical breakfast menu

By Jim W |

They make their french toast from scratch - very tasty. Several different breakfast options. Ate here based upon good reviews & glad we did. Short wait but worth it. Convenient location if visiting the zoo.

Oh. My. Gosh. Yummy!

By AmandaB28210 |

This place has the most amazing breakfast around! Get there early on Saturday to beat the crowds. Blackberry syrup like my grandmother made. My 14 year old daughter's comment,

Amazing breakfast

By SuzyG |

The Mission has to be the best breakfast spot along the beaches. We went on a weekday and there was no wait, and coffee was delivered super fast. Don't be overwhelmed by the menu...just get the french toast. There were five of us, and we ordered four dishes. There was more than enough for everyone. Will definitely go back.

Not sure that I undertand the hype

By nadojeff |

This place continues to show up as one of the best breakfast places in San Diego, but I do not agree with the hype. The portions are large, but the food is average at best, the wait times are long and the parking next to impossible (in Mission Beach). In my opinion, there are a lot better choices all up and down the coast.

The Ultimate San Diego Breakfast Experience – Don’t Miss the Hot Chocolate!

By Resident Lending Inc. |

If you are visiting San Diego and want to eat where the locals go for the "real" deal, The Mission in North Park is a mandatory stop. I’m a local mortgage broker and I spend a lot of time scouting the best of our city with my realtor partner, Dave Dennis. We chose The Mission for our 2026 New Year’s breakfast ritual, and it reminded me why people travel from all over the world to eat here. The atmosphere is quintessential San Diego, vibrant, friendly, and high-quality. As soon as I walked in, Tara made me feel like a regular with her enthusiastic welcome. She even pointed out their Hot Chocolate, which was a total game-changer and an absolute "must-order" if you’re looking for something special. I ordered the Avocado Toast, Dave got their flagship frittata entree, and as two professionals who make it our business to know every corner of this neighborhood, we can confidently say this is San Diego in its best form. Whether you’re a foodie or just looking for a great vibe, Tara and her team will take excellent care of you. Truly a 5-star start to the year! Eric Atilano Resident Lending Inc.

Wow... French Toast was amazing

By bribeer |

On our way to the zoo we stopped here for breakfast. The french toast had to be one of the best I ever had. We had about 15 min wait to be seated. Servers were very attentive. Water and coffee never got empty and refilled at least 2 times each. Food came out quickly and was so delicious. Thanks for this little gem.

Do brunch HERE!

By msbee3 |

They have 3 locations, we were at North Park. Always busy for brunch, a good sign! Give your name and read over the menu while you wait, and get ready for great food!! The turkey club is hard to beat; although the breakfast tamales and rancheros verde were a treat, and lots of stacks of incredible pancakes were going by. We had both the regular and Mexican hot chocolate, both were stellar!! And their Bloody Mary is unique, with Han instead of vodka, just great, so tasty. If you want great tasting, simple, healthy, tasty food with a whimsical edge, The Mission will certainly meet your needs!

Delicious

By 104Angela |

Both of our dishes were full of flavor. My husband still raves about this place. We haven't found a place similar in Portland OR.

Best breakfast

By TravelerCharlotte |

I loved this place. Visiting San Diego, so first time. Everything from the hostess, service, food, presentation, ice tea refills, everything. It was packed on a Friday midmorning and it is a big place. Two of us shared the French toast and got a side of two eggs and bacon ($2.50 extra surprisingly inexpensive). Our friend got the blackberry pancakes. Everything was so delicious and the plates had swirls of maybe berry syrup decorating the them. So, so impressed.

Unique

By Arick L |

Everything was perfect, our server Tara was fantastic, the food was delicious. We had a lot of fun and we'll definitely be back. Thank you for everything, Arick.

So many choices, all of them wonderful!

By Allison T |

The only bad thing about this place is that it's nearly impossible to choose what to order. My friend and I split banana granola pancakes and the chilaquiles. Both were amazing. The coffee was plentiful and delicious. I had a mechelada which was also fantastic. The service was stellar. The place is adorable. Honestly if there wasn't so much amazing food to choose from in San Diego I could have eaten here every day.

Consistent and Delicious

By Lyfespeed |

So I am not one that tends to get the same thing all the time at a restaurant, as I like to try new things. I suppose that due to the fact that I have eaten at The Mission over 50 times, I have become set in my ways. I don't always eat at the North Park location, as when I used to work downtown, I would frequent the East Village location. My go to meal is the Zen Breakfast. Straight up, i'm addicted to the tofu. Yes, I said i'm addicted to tofu. Its marinated in a teriyaki style glaze, with fresh ginger and mushrooms. I think its one of their signature items, and I am obsessed. I order my Zen breakfast, which consists of the marinated tofu, brown rice, egg whites, grilled zucchini and yellow squash, with a garnish of scallions, diced tomato and cilantro. The dish as a whole is rather healthy and I never feel overly full after eating it. I must come clean, I usually only eat one or two the the pieces of the grilled zucchini and I usually leave most of the rice as well. I like to eat a little egg, one piece of tofu, and then a little rice with thats soaked with the tofu glaze. My whole goal is to balance out the tofu portion throughout the meal interchanging between it and the egg whites. I know, TMI. I told you, obsessed with the tofu. As for other items on the menu, the tamales are good with the green chile sauce. The chicken apple sausage is always solid, especially when dipped in maple syrup, and cant go wrong with the breakfast burrito, add bacon. I suppose that my only complaint, is that sometimes my tofu comes out a little on the cold side, and that really bum's me out. OK, enough with my Zen breakfast weirdness, support local restaurants San Diego!

weekend breakfast

By Burnie D |

We met our best friends for a 9 am breakfast. No reservations but we were seated quickly. When we left around 10:30 there were lots of folks waiting to get in. I had a very good and huge portion of steak hash and eggs. The dish included new potatoes. It was tasty and we ended up taking some home. they also have a number of special coffee drinks. Service was good not great and it was fun.

Simply great!!

By GDLChef |

I'm a regular of the mission for a few years now, great breakfast/lunch place, on weekends can take a while to get a table but it's worth it, the mission French toast a must have, their soy chorizo is also really good! A place to eat while visiting, family and friends, casual and friendly service.

A bit disappointing

By robinjk3 |

This was my third visit to this place. The previous 2 x I had the amazing french toast. This time I decided to try the roast beef hash and eggs. The meat was chewy which was disappointing to me. The side order of blueberry pancakes were delicious. My friend also ordered the hash and eggs and found the meat to be chewy also. The service was good and the server was very friendly. After a long wait (Sunday am) I left feeling a bit disappointed.

Simple but Good.

By Maverick12 |

I go early to avoid the rush and it works every time. It is nothing gourmet but a guaranteed good breakfast at a fair price

Indeed the best breakfast

By Kristen C |

One of the best breakfasts we’d ever had on a vacation. The Mission Rosemary was tasty and filling and the cinnamon French toast was heavenly. The coffee and orange juice were both sooo fresh. Definitely coming back again before our vacation is over!!!

Come For Breakfast, But Come EARLY

By NjMoma2 |

What a great restaurant! The staff is wonderful and attentive! My daughter enjoyed her banana nut muffin so much, my husband just had to have one as well. The portions are generous and the food was great. Hint: arrive early as this place (justifiably) gets crowded fast. Totally worth a special trip.

best breakfast anywhere

By Amanda K |

homemade pancakes that are second to none, great Mexican-inspired breakfasts. Everything there is good. I've been going there regularly for breakfast for 12 years.

MUST go for breakfast/brunch

By karadi |

SO SO SO good. I love "mexican" food and breakfast food. I was in heaven. Large portions and low price. My kind of place!! One of the best latte's also!!!

First place I eat whenever I am in San Deigo

By ridleysmythe |

After visiting this restaurant for years when I lived in San Diego, it is always the first place I return to when I visit. The food is delicious. It doesn't matter what you order because it is all amazing. Due to the food being so good, it tends to be incredibly busy. On my last visit, we hit it on a weekday during lunch time and managed to hit it just right to get seated right away. It has been four years since I lived in SD, and the service staff was the same as when I left. If the servers stay long term, that should tell you a lot about the place. This trip I had the Mission Rosemary and a side of cinnamon bread. It was tasty. They really know how to make bread and cook eggs and potatoes to perfection. My husband had the BLT. I don't eat meat, but the bacon was crispy, thick and smelled delicious. He said it was as tasty as always. If you are in SD and have the time, stop in because you will not regret it.

awesome food, long waiting time

By Elboricuaso |

food was great but when we checked in the host originally said 10-15 min wait for party of 5. we waited for 1hr before being seated which made the experience a little bitter to begin with. food and service made up for it!

AWESOME

By Ebattle |

Went every single morning we could. The coffee is to die for the breakfasts are hearty but sit so well in your stomach all day. Get there before nine for no wait and be careful of street sweeping days.

Mission Accomplished!

By Robin S |

By far this cafe/ restaurant is in my top 5 for breakfast! My husband and I will make a point to frequent this establishment each time we visit San Diego. I had the French toast with chicken apple sausage and scrambled eggs. My husband had the strawberry banana pancakes with double bacon and scrambled eggs. Both dishes are highly recommended. The portions are huge and the presentation was stellar! The taste was delicious and as greedy as this sound, we tried to finish it all. What I loved most about the service is that all the staff smiled and seemed to enjoy their job. We sat at the bar, which is recommended if you are hungry and want to avoid the wait. We were seated just after a 10 minute wait. We had our food within 15 minutes which was good considering the place was packed! The wait time at around 9:30am- 10 am on a Sunday was about 25-35 minutes. The staff was incredible! Seven different people willingly either attended to us or simply acknowledged us including 2 managers. I loved the diversity within the menu and the coffee menu as well. We had a wonderful experience! Thanks! We will be back and if you want a wonderful dining breakfast experience you will too!

Excellent Breakfast Venue

By shila G |

We were a large party, and even though the restaurant does not take reservations, we were able to be seated close together. The manager (thank you Guy!) and the staff accommodated us, by asking one of us to arrive early, so we could put in our table request. We were very pleased with our overall experience with the staff and their helpfulness. The food was excellent with a great variety of breakfast foods! I would highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

Enormous servings of pancakes!

By stpeters |

Good pancakes of various kinds and you certainly get enough with three, dinner plate sized cakes. And good, strong coffee to wash them down. Kind of loud but the service and overall experience were good.

Came because first place we were going was closed,

By Wynell H |

Outstanding food and service. Fresh and accommodated dietary restrictions . We will go back ! Vegetarian tamale was amazing

Fine for lunch , reasonable price

By Doug london |

Met up for lunch at this cafe , parked right outside and staff were really attentive. The service was great and the food fine nothing to get over excited about but I had a great burger although a little small! The atmosphere was relaxed and the decor fine . Only issue I had was the table itself was not fit to eat off with laminate starting to come away, Needs upgrading but other than that a really pleasant experience and would recommend

Very good....long wait

By Riffrafftravelers |

This place is very delicious for breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito and it was uniquely delicious. We waited about 45 minutes and was told it was only a 20 minute wait. So be prepared to wait longer than told. But the service was great and food portions are huge!

Delicious food!

By dkppunk |

I've been here a few times with friends and with my boyfriend. Every time we go the food is absolutely delicious! The only drawback is the line, we always go there with a second choice in mind because the line is usually pretty long. If you are going to go here, go early, like when they open, or be prepared to wait. Otherwise, this place is amazing and I love eating here.

Great spot for breakfast

By 53LeeK |

We always go to The Mission in North Park for breakfast at least once when we're in San Diego. The menu has both traditional and southwest flavors for breakfast and lunch. The Mission Rosemary and the Roast Beef Hash and Eggs are favorites. Recommend!!

Great breakfast/brunch

By WanderersWife |

We've been to the SoMa East Village location several times, and have always had good experiences. It is true California cuisine in that there is a mix of Mexican and Euro-American influences. This time we had the sweet tomales and eggs, a breakfast burrito and the cinnamon french toast. All were excellent of their type, and the black beans that accompanied the Mexican dishes were delicious. They also have Mexican Hot Chocolate and a Mexican Au Lait (basically a Mocha with coffee.) The service was good and friendly. This place would be very good for vegetarians because there are plenty of choices, as well as a number of meat choices.

Always Delicious!

By mom2carterandcals |

One of my favorite places for breakfast. You can expect a bit of a wait especially if you go after 9:30 or 10 am. My favorite is the strawberry granola pancakes...delish bacon and their rosemary potatoes are bomb.

A great way to start your day

By Atef Z |

Make sure to bring a big appetite with you. Portions are very generous, staff very curteous and attentive, very popular place so be ready to wait a few minutes to be seated.

Breakfast was good

By Kalistrat |

We chose this cafe because of its name. We were going on a mission trip to Mexico, and it seemed like a good idea to start at the Mission cafe that day. What a wonderful beginning of the trip! We remembered that breakfast all the time we were in Mexico. The food was perfectly made. The coffee was wonderful. The waitress seemed to be there as soon as we had a question. We will be back next time we come to San Diego.

Attentive service and slow kitchen but the food made it all worthwhile

By Daren W |

Went during a busy weekend lunch time. There was a pretty decent line but once seated, we were greeted by a friendly server. The wait for our food felt like an eternity as other people seated after us finished their meals before ours ever showed up. That said, once it arrived, well, it was pretty spectacular. The relaxed, funky vibe, creative menu options and well prepared food make this worth a visit. Just don't be in a hurry.

Best breakfast!

By Chelsea P |

Although we had to wait, it was completely worth it. The atmosphere was vibrant, the service great and the food was delicious!

Great food and service at decent prices

By Daniel D |

First of all. The portion size at this place is crazy. I got the cinnamon french toast with potatoes and bacon. I could barely eat half of it. Hint: you can substitute an item rather than paying more for the potatoes. The french toast was great, but the star of the dish was the rosemary potatoes. These are a must order when you come here, some of the best potatoes I have ever had. Will definitely be back if we are ever in San Diego again. We went on a weekday morning early so we could get there before going to the zoo when it opens. This worked out great so I recommend doing this if you are going to the zoo. Highly recommend.

Excellent breakfast, below average customer service

By Vanessa S |

I've been here a few times for breakfast. The food is amazing but the service is a little off. We had a waiter (forgot his name but he's a Latino guy) that took forever to check on us and he took an extremely long time to bring our check when we were done as well. I've picked up before too and the cashier seemed to be in a crabby mood. The mission croissant is an absolute must have, apple sausage & eggs are great and the French toast is also delicious. The food itself is worth a trip back but not without sampling the other joints first :-).

Do yourself a favor..

By dansworld99 |

Eat here for breakfast at least once if visiting San Diego. Not a huge tourist place, mostly locals and delicious.

Must try !

By Phoenix J |

To start, the staff is so nice and very helpful even when it's super busy. The food was to die for. I'm looking to move to San Diego and this is definitely going to be my go-to spot. Don't come here without trying the famous Rosemary potatoes !!!!! Love love love

Still My Favorite Breakfast Spot

By Dave P |

Have been a fan for a while and have gone to several of their locations. My favorites are the blackberry pancakes and rosemary potatoes. Service was good and atmosphere comfortable. Always a good cup of coffee too. Only downside can be the wait during prime hours on the weekend.

Tasty!

By Mike |

Caught up with an old friend for lunch here on a Wednesday. I had the house quesadilla - very tasty! My friend had papas con chorizo (soy) and it was also great - full flavored. Most definitely worth a visit.

Nice restaurant good food

By rajesh_the_traveller |

The wait is long but that's ok if you are in for a good breakfast. Very good fusion food, fresh ingredients. We had the mission rosemary and paba locos. Nicely done and good taste. Priced reasonable for couple with coffee and food about $30-$35.

Great for Breakfast

Tried this place last week and it was good. They get pretty busy so plan to get there early or plan for a wait. Overall service and food were pretty good. We loved the extensive menu for just the coffee alone. Many different choices to pick from. I tried the chicken sausage and eggs and it was pretty good. The portions are big so maybe share with a friend.

Horrendous

By cstruyk |

This establishment is low quality. Saw positive reviews and decided to try it, was absolutely not good. As a breakfast connoisseur, I will tell you this place does not deserve the money or the wait. I would recommend Brian' 24 over this place, as does my lady and family. We tried a variety of food here and it was all dry and bland. Would not return

Best breakfast in the world.

By Joe B |

everything here looks good, but I am keep coming back to the same meal--Roast beef hash with eggs...'nuff said!

Delicious food

By Rsavell |

When we first arrived I was a little nervous. It was 2:00 pm and the place was almost empty. The menu looked primarily like breakfast items. One small page of lunch items. We ordered steak quesadillas with black beans, fabulous, best I've ever had! Wish we were in San Diego another day, I would try out the breakfast as well!

Good spot from breakfast

By Sam R |

This is a great spot in North Park for breakfast, it was really friendly and there was art for sale on the walls which brightened up the restaurant. We both had the Mission French Toast which was really good, the plate is very attractively decorated.

While I was visiting my parents this was one of the better restaurant

By Anthony T |

Service was really on time we never waited for food servers were very courteous the manager knew exactly what he was doing make sure that everybody was taken care of overall a real good experience We did have to wait outside for about 10 or 15 minutes to get a table but that's understandable because of food is exceptional

Just Good

By DWeso |

Breakfast was great. A short wait on a Saturday morning. Great pumpkin latte. Small tables. Intimate seating. Give it a try.

Delicious and great portions!

By Nicole Y |

I am traveling with a vegan so the restaurant providing a separate vegan menu was wonderful. Michaela was our server and she was wonderful. I let her pick when I couldn’t make up my mind. She picked Papas Loco and it was AMAZING. I was stuffed and had enough to still make a burrito to take with me. Highly recommend. I will be back.

Must eat here if you're in San Diego!

By happycamper418 |

Great pancakes! This place was hopping at 10am on a weekday, so we knew it was going to be good! Friendly service, extensive menu. Must try the Papas Loco if you're looking for a spicy, filling breakfast!

Best French Toast ever!

By lane t |

Not your traditional breakfast foods, a little different menu - but trust me, the offerings are delicious. Ate here twice on our visit to Mission Bay. pancakes, French Toast the best I have ever had. Clean and good service as well.

Awesome!!

By dippie |

LOVED the blackberry/ banana pancakes! Great bacon. French toast is very sweet. Great service and friendly people. Great coffee.

Great food and great service

By Alex Covs |

Lucy was amazing and very attentive to our party of 7. Food was great and very filling. Blueberry pancakes were the best.

Worth the wait.

By Sean M |

Had breakfast here with a group of nine so we had a 45 minute wait but it was worth it. Their food is really, really good. I had the breakfast sandwich, which was amazing. The Michelada was also very good. It is kind of a Mexican/American breakfast joint. It is extremely busy so be prepared for a wait. Parking is difficult but not impossible.

Delicious!

By Alison K |

Sunday morning breakfast, no wait, friendly staff, and delicious food. The cinnamon bread French toast was ah-mazing. The Mexican hot chocolate was also yummy. The cook takes their time to plate with pretty decoration.

Great Breakfast

By PartyOnIndy |

Ten-minute walk on J Street from Hotel Solamar, small crowd outside waiting (good sign), and a beautiful SD day - perfect setup. Walked inside to give my name to the hostess - a bit loud, but acceptable. 20 minutes to get a table. No problem because it's a gorgeous morning. I have a hard time choosing what to eat because it all looks appealing. As I look to the left and right to see what others are eating, the decision becomes even more difficult. Based on other TA opinions, I get the OJ. Excellent decision. The coffee is pretty average. Decision time, and I get the blackberry pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. My wife selects Mission Rosemary and loves her meal. The eggs are fresh and delicious. The bacon, prepared well, I wish was thicker. The pancakes? Awesome. They are big, cooked just right, and served with maple syrup. The purée pushed a great meal over the top. Service was very good. The setting is fun. It is on the noisy side, but it's well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Average

By Chris Jenkins |

This place caught our attention as we walked past so we decided to give it a shot. Large selection on the menu, some friendly staff (our waitress was very helpful) but some looked downright miserable. Was kinda off putting seeing them walk out trying to juggle multiple drinks (maybe a tray would come in handy). Food was good, we had two breakfast quesadillas, and they were very filling.

Busy breakfast spot on the beach.

By jantexHouston |

This is a favorite place for us when we visit Mission Beach. We only go for breakfast, so I cannot comment on lunch. Everything we have eaten is delicious. Banana pancakes, French toast, breakfast burrito, egg quesadillas, coffee, egg whites, bacon-- all were great. Get there early, or you will be waiting outside.

Great cafe for breakfast/brunch where the locals eat

By Linda S |

Whilst we where in Anaheim at Disneyland I met a couple from San Diego . I told them we where going to San Diego the next week . As locals they told me to be sure to go to The Mission for breakfast So once we checked into our hotel we got the address off the concierge and went the next morning ....-and then the next day and then again the next day ...... We had a car so was easy to get to but otherwise It was though downtown in what I would probably call bordering a commercial/industrial area The building itself was lovely and restored and very welcoming . The staff where friendly and efficient whilst the place was pretty busy . The menu was quite large and extensive . The food was fresh with plenty of flavour and the prices where quite reasonable . Easily the best breakfast we had on our month long trip

Breakfast yummy

By Dglssab |

I have been coming no here and brining friends here for years. Love the vegetarian options all delish Mango green tea the bomb

Snazzy little breakfast nook

By Mcrist4 |

Awesome little place that caters to those who like their restaurants with a neighborhood feel. Fast service and knowledgeable staff that helped me sort through a very enticing menu. My server informed me I could do one pancake and one french toast and that was the way to go. Definitely this is the place to go to for a great breakfast.

Tasty treat at Mission Beach

By Traveling_TK_11 |

Can't find that location on here, so I'll post it for this location. We wanted a good breakfast place after watching the surfers at Tourmaline Surf Park, and The Mission on Mission Blvd. didn't disappoint. I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food, but love tamales, so I tried the Plato Verde Con Huevos - sweet corn tamales with roasted tomatillo sauce and over-medium eggs with black beans. Absolutely outstanding - one of the most creative breakfast dishes I've ever had. My husband ordered the Papas Con Chirizo burrito, stuffed with soy Chirizo, potatoes, eggs, scallions, black beans, and scallions. He could only finish a third of it! Great coffee, tea, and fresh juices, too. We were there on a weekday around 8, and it was a really mellow atmosphere. Service was a bit slow, but we rolled with it.

Great Brunch

By Hussain18818 |

We had a very enjoyable Mexican Brunch, All the dishes were very tasteful and the favors were great . Each dish could be shared by two person. Recommended dishes , Papas Chorizo, Papas Loco & Egg, Breakfast Tamales and Mission French Toast The staff provided very fast and friendly service . The food quality was excellent. On a weekend the place is busy , waiting time is around 30 minutes, parking is a issue . The ambiance of the restaurant is good , try to get a table in the patio.

Great breakfast at a great price

By theimig |

We enjoyed visiting this restaurant for breakfast. I had a fruit smoothie which was good. My wife and I split a breakfast plate in the cost was affordable. Service was good and Restaurant was quite busy.

Quality food.

By sullivan1212 |

I am just casual visitor from Montana. I keep coming back to The Mission for their quality food cooked the proper way. Love their fresh squeezed orange juice. An item not available where i live. Service is very good, but when the place is full, things can back up. Early breakfasts were my needs. Plenty of good fresh food without a problem. Good flavorful coffee the way i need it. Nice to be remembered by the friendly service providers. I will enjoy the same next year.

Expect a wait on the weekend but pretty good

By camillionair |

The bloody Mary is quite spicy as they add horseradish for spice. Pretty good but I could not finish it. Good food, wasn't amazing, but if you're in the area! Definitely vegetarian and gluten free friendly.

Healthy organic food buy a bunch of professionals that know how to make food healthy and look really good

By Anthony T |

The place had people outside waiting. That's the first of a good place to eat, people will not wait for bad food. When we got seated, the waitress came straight to the table to after we wanted to drink, service was great food came out hot and on time completely healthy great food great taste was amazing, if you're looking for a place to bring your family for good food this is the place there's also a one in Pacific Beach if you're on the coast I highly recommend you go to either one of these two places food is really good service is great people are really kind and glide the way to make you happy

Delicious breakfast

By amillerd |

Was visiting my brother, who lives in SD, and he took me here for breakfast. It was the best breakfast I had in SD over my week stay! We had one of their speciality breakfasts - forget the name - that comes sausage or steak with roast potatoes and rosemary bread. Ask for whipped butter and jam to put on the toast for a nice way to finish off the meal. This breakfast kept me going till dinner! Also, very tasty 'bottomless' cup of coffee.

Best breakfast in North Park

By god69father |

Wow for starters I'm in the middle of my meal and just had to leave this review before I forget how amazing this place is. I ordered the mission rosemary bfast meal and got bacon on the side. The bacon was perfectly prepared, and the rosemary potatoes thay come with this are to die for. I recommend subbing the scrambled eggs for the over medium style so u can use the yolk with the best toast, their rosemary toast, and for the potatoes. Yummy!!!! My server was super friendly and on point, Sharon just wanted to shout out to her.

Fantastic food

By Debbie B |

I have to say although it is a breakfast/brunch place it was the best meal I had in American in the two weeks we were there . It is a basic place but the staff were great and the food even better . It is not in the tourist area , but worth the time to find it . Wish there was something like it in the UK , on second thoughts maybe not as I would be as big as a house !!

Fantastic food and coffee

By NauticalEndeavorer |

In the heart of Mission Beach, this is a great place for breakfast. They have the traditional breakfast fare and many items that you will not see in most places. The french toast is outstanding and so is the coffee. Expect a wait...but well worth it.

Great food and atmosphere

By MarkL590 |

Food is always consistent and soooo good! Every bite is worth the trip to this great restaurant. We always go to The Mission when in Scottsdale, as its a perfect Mexican meal with a modern take. The table side guacamole is a must have, and the margaritas are fantastic and really good quality. It oozes charm and we love the back courtyard/patio. The weekend brunch items were really good! Don't miss out.

HUGE portions of fantastic gluten free food!

By runread |

The portions are huge - split entrees so you can try more items. The gluten free bread is outstanding and makes wonderful, wonderful french toast. The gluten free club sandwich was also fantastic. Service was friendly and fast. Fun neighborhood very close to the zoo.

Was this an episode of portandia?

By kristylee11 |

My fiance and I met a friend here for brunch. It was my first time in san diego. My first thought, was that this place could definitely star in a portlandia episode. Kidding aside, the brunch options were AMAZING. I rarely have a hard time picking something, but I had that problem here because so many options choices made my mouth water just by reading them. I got the plato verde con huevos, which proved to be a very wise choice. they also have a fresh-baked rosemary bread, and like a million other can't-go-wrong picks. enjoy!

Best pancakes in California!

By VousAllez |

We eat at The Mission every time we visit San Diego and are convinced they make the best blackberry pancakes in California! Everything is made fresh and so delicious. Waits can be long and the service slow at peak times, but if you can score seats at the bar you will likely get served faster. Get an order of pancakes for the table to share!

breakfast was best ever

By Gretchen S |

We loved going here for a post grad breakfast. Although we waited a bit, it was worth it. I had the french toast that was OUT OF THIS WORLD. And I know my french toast. Kudos to a great waiter too.

More of the same........

By Flagstaff434 |

99% of the reviews suggest that The Mission is fabulous. I'm afraid I can only second that opinion. I could eat there every day, especially if I wanted to double my weight. The portions are substantial and the quality superb. And, if you like variety, there's plenty of that, too. We were there for breakfast and hope to go back one more time before we have to leave.....

Wonderful breakfast and great staff

By BearTravels33 |

Luckily we got there early on a Sunday as it was VERY crowded when we left. Pancakes are very good and so was the Soy Chorizo breakfast burrito. If you like a robust coffee, you will love their coffee.

So delicious!

By Jen W |

I don't have many words to describe how delicious my breakfast was this morning. I got the Papas Loco (Rosemary potatoes, scrambled eggs, black beans, avocado, jalapeno, tortilla) and I loved every filling, delicious bite. The potatoes were delightfully crispy. The service was a little slow but not terrible. Come EARLY to avoid the line. I got there around 8:30am and was able to be seated quickly, but a line formed outside and was about a block long when I left around 10am.

Greatest breakfast & service

By Amanda A |

Highly recommend this breakfast spot and our server Lucy was amazing! Try the mission rosemary bread and great specialty drinks

Great breakfast

By B H |

While staying at a hotel on Mission Beach we went here several times for breakfast. Especially the French toast is great!

Good value and good sized portions also cater for gluten free.

By C B |

Went for brunch following the good TripAdvisor reviews. I had with me my husband and two children aged 9 and 11. None of us were disappointed ! The Mission specials were the most ample portions many guests were leaving with "doggy bags ". I had the carrot and ginger soup with a side salad. Beautiful home made soup with fresh baked bread ( made in the attached bakery ). I am gluten intolerant and they were able to supply fresh rosemary gluten free bread. Yum yum. Coffee re fills. Good friendly service and fair value. Soup and salad $7.95 Would recommend.

Delicious breakfast

By Jalenis |

Our party of four were pleased with our order of Mission style french toasts and blackberries and banana pancakes. Huge amounts so we shared both. We loved the Mexican coffee with chocolate and the capuccino. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated because we were four and tables are limited. Parties of two moved faster. But it was worth our wait.

Great Food! Busy Place!

By Jason B |

Stopped in for breakfast on Sunday morning. Actually met Jessica, a waitress there, walking up the street. She suggested that we have breakfast where she was walking to, The Mission. Busy spot in North Park, with about a 45 minute wait. People of all walks of life enjoying good food, conversation, and great coffee on a Sunday morning. The place has kitchy artwork posted around the restaurant, and seats about 64 people. Food selection was good, with different breakfast options from strawberry-banana pancakes, chilaquiles, a breakfast quesadilla. Not much in the choice of breakfast meats, however my breakfast quesadilla did have bacon in it. Their cinnamon bread french-toast was pretty awesome too! They make some specialty coffee drinks, as well, and is a great alternative to Denny's. Real food. Really good. Really good service. They also have some vegetarian options, and lunch sandwiches that looked very delicious. If you're in SD, give this spot a visit.

Awsome potatoes! Gluten free menu

By Nicolas M |

Been at the mission with my family It is a highly demanded place, if you attend on weekends or holidays You Will have to wait I cannot eat gluten so it is great when you find several gluten free options Recommended for breakfast!

Good food, but felt rushed

By thecheechman |

We came here for breakfast, the food was very good and a decent price. Although I guess this may be fickle but it is disappointing that a place like this does not have free wifi. I also feel that even though we were there early and the restaurant was not full or people were waiting, that we were made to feel rushed and got given the paycheck before we even had finished our food. Something that leaves a sour taste in your mouth. But besides that the food was very tasty and well worth a visit for breakfast at least.

Delicious Breakfast, Great Portions, and Quick

By Eric W |

Went as a group of 4 on a Monday morning and was seated immediately. The place is a very basic open design, but very comfortable. The portions are good-sized, but not ridiculous like some of the other places I have eaten at in this area. The price is good and the service was quick and friendly. A definite recommendation for breakfast.

CEO Chihuahua Service/Worship

By Kt H |

Lucy was wonderful/as always food was deeelicious (try the Zen Brkfast)….amazing how, even tho place was pretty busy food came out promptly

Worth the wait. Are you a pancake lover? Welcome,

By hac0y7 |

The wait was long. I had heard it was worth the wait. I ordered a hot tea and strawberry banana pancakes. The wait for the food was not long at all. The flour tasted fresh and the presentation was very clean. My pancakes were made with fresh strawberries and fresh bananas. The flavors infused richly into the batter. I wish I was not watching my calories. What a great restaurant to have freshly made pancakes. The portion size was ideal. If the pancakes seem to large, order the short stack and you may order one at a time instead of the traditional three. Totally recommend this restaurant and I will be back to re-review a different dish. This is an ideal restaurant for children, family and co-workers.

breakfast

By Ninscha |

in San Diego Southpark, laid-back atmosphere, very friendly waitress, good breakfast, the best pancakes ever :-)

When you come to the mission they treats you like family always with a smile really kind and take care of me

By Anthony T |

As usual food was hot prompt and really good these guys really know how to take care of you, the water was so kind and the manager came my to check on everyone to see if they needed anything

Delicious Brunch!

By Ayano N |

Brunching - is my favorite. We came back twice because their brunch was so delicious! Hubs had the chilaquiles and I had the chicken sausage with eggs the first go around. Both were delicious and great portions. We got to hang out and watch the locals while sipping our mimosa/manmosas. Second time, I had the rancheros verde and ohmigawwwwww my mouth is watering just thinking about them. Amaaaaaazing! This is a great place for families too!

Great food and friendly service

By StarBright7777 |

No wonder you see lines out front every weekend. It's worth the wait! Really different breakfasts and great coffee drinks make it a treat. Sometimes I just get a latte to go just because the are fast and they always make it perfect!

Couldn't get enough!!!

By WAPC_Team |

We were recently in San Diego for Spring Break vacation as a family. The concierge at the resort we were vacationing at recommended The Mission as a great "locals" place to have breakfast. Great is an understatement. We absolutely loved it. Yes, there was always a bit of a wait (20 to 30 minutes) each of the three days we wate there. Well worth it. The food is creative and the portions generous. We found the service to be prompt and genuine. Hey.... Go for a quick walk on the beach while you wait for your table. You won't regret it. I highly recommend the Zen Breakfast.

Best French toast Ever!!

By RuRuStatesboro |

We love the Mission when we visit San Diego--we have eaten breakfast all over the world and this Is literally the Best French Toast I have even tasted!! The bananna, and blackberry pancakes were outstanding!! Highly recommend that you try it--you won't be disappointed.----Promise!!

Years or greatness!

By jennifer |

We have been coming here for years, we currently live in Mexico, but ALWAYS make time for a the Missions! Food is the best. Today we had Lucy for a server and she had the most beautiful attitude! She made the food even better. Thanks Missions for being a part of our life!

Classic Breakfast Food

By DeAnna S |

This restaurant has several locations. This particular location has a typical diner atmosphere. The service is quick. The menu has a lot to select from. There is nice choice of Latino food as well. I ordered the RANCHEROS VERDE (Fresh flour tortillas with eggs over medium, black beans, cheese & roasted chile verde sauce). I would order it again. It was delicious and not too spicy. My husband had the MISSION FRENCH TOAST (Fresh baked cinnamon bread on a palette of berry puree). It was good, but "heavy" tasting. The coffee is strong, but tasty. There were rave reviews about the rosemary potatoes, so I ordered a side of them. I didn't think there were anything special.

Well worth it!

By Patrick |

The wait was more than 30mins on that saturday morning - but the quality of food was worth every minute wait! By far the best breakie / lunch we had in the US ever.

Rather bohemian and a great menu

By Douglas A |

Nothing fancy about this place in North Park, San Diego. Waiting room looks like it was decorated by Sanford and Son and in spite of the constant flow, waiting time is only 10 - 15 minutes. One large, open-raftered room with tables arranged fairly close together but the clientele are friendly and willing to exchange pleasantries, even when you have rambunctious preschool children. The menu is divided into Pancakes, Mission Soy Chorizo Specials, Small Plates, Mission Favorites, Latino Breakfast Plates, Coffee, Shakes, Smoothies, Etc. Lunch Favorites feature quesadillas, Nachos and Burritos. They also feature soups, sandwiches and "Chino-Latino" selections. It's also a bakery and they sell brownies, muffins, croissants and banana bread. Incredibly varied menu and they even offer gluten free choices under the Mission Favorites (breakfasts). I ordered a Bloody Mary and the Rancheros Verde - a tortilla and eggs over black beans. Excellent! My daughter ordered a plate of the Naked Pancakes for the girls and split them - three huge pancakes! And she had the Chicken Applesausage and Eggs plate. The meals came to about $9.00 a head without the Bloody Mary's - very reasonable for a premium menu and large portions. Our waiter was Eric. Just a trooper and stayed with us as he brought extra napkins and replaced forks. I look forward to returning.

Yummy, always

By Laura P |

Best breakfast place in town, in my opinion. I've never had anything bad at the Mission. It's tough to get in sometimes, especially on weekends, but plan..it's worth the wait. Or go on a weekday. Wait staff is busy but attentive. It's a bit noisy, but it's a friendly, nice noise.

Loved it! Easy GF!

By Kristen B |

Putting that bread in my mouth gave me a moment of panic. There is no way this is Gluten Free I thought. I double checked with the waitress and she just smiled and told me a lot of people who had been gf for a long time had that reaction. To order french toast and have it be gf and that delicious was a treat! probably one of the best breakfasts i have ever had. the rosemary potatoes are divine and worth a trip just for those.

The ambiance gets me here.

By Peter K |

Its not the food or service here that did it for me but the ambiance. We have eaten here more than once and always enjoy it. The patrons like the wait staff are an eclectic lot and very pleasant. The University area of San Digeo is exactly what you would expect from a San Diego university area. Climate always beautiful, and a great mixture of services available within walking distance.

Great breakfast place

By P B |

We ate there for breakfast 5/17/13. Place was as busy as you might expect with as high a rating as it does after over 900 reviews. I did the banana-granola pancakes and my wife had the strawberry-banana pancakes. She ordered the side of rosemary-potatoes instead of the eggs and bacon. We also had their specialty coffees (Mission mocha and Hammerhead). The ambiance was nice, nothing special. For the amount out people it wasn't very loud, which was great. The pancakes were outstanding; packed with flavor. The potatoes were her favorite, and better than any other place we have had similar. They were on the large side, both fluffy and having a large diameter, way larger than we could eat. Only drawback is that the granola was not as crunchy as it could have been, for more of the textural contrast we like. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast place in San Diego.

Ordinary breakfast

By livend |

Went on a weekday morning, plenty of tables available. The breakfast croissant were ordinary. The scrambled eggs didn't have much taste or seasonings, and barely had any scallops or tomatoes. Only had one bite with cheese in it. My partner had the toasted granola in yogurt with fruits. The granola was similar to what I would find in a grocery store and there was barely any yogurt. Overall the food was okay but nothing to stand apart.

Probably one of the best breakfast places in the USA

By Joseph Castro |

If you're looking for great value for your money, outstanding breakfast experience, rich fluffy pancakes and relatively short lines --this is the place! It is difficult to find a fault for this restaurant which is almost perfect. Food is nothing unforgettable but the entire experience, ambience and the friendliness of the staff made everything sweeter. If I have to pick on something that would be parking. It was difficult to find parking, but is that not the case for any good restaurant?

Awesome Breakfast!

By Justin F |

This was the best breakfast we had in San Diego and an excellent start to the day. We were heading to the San Diego Zoo afterwards and their portion sizes were perfect. My girlfriend tried their apple sausage breakfast which was labeled as one of their favorites - SOOOOO good. I tried the croissant sandwich and added some bacon/avocado. Great stuff. The menu has some very interesting items and lots of different things I would love to try. It was a little bit of a walk but we recommend taking the #7 bus if your downtown since it takes you right there. We had a bad experience with a restaurant down the road and are glad this ended up being the place we ate at. Be prepared for a little bit of a wait but they turn their tables pretty quick and well worth it. Great value and extremely friendly. We will be back for more when we visit San Diego again.

Must love noise

By Unicornsherry |

I guess this just was not the right choice for me, personally, as the rest of the people at the Mission St. location seemed to be having a good time, enjoying their meals, and the place was packed. First, the noise level was so loud that I couldn't hear my friend, who was sitting across the small table, talk. Second, the menu choices were not what I was expecting. There were several fruits that could be added to your pancakes, but none of them were apple, which I would have liked. Nor, do I like black beans with my breakfast (or any other meal). I had the naked pancakes, which were plate sized and fluffy. They were presented nicely, with little swirls of blueberry puree around the rim of the plate, sprinkled with powdered sugar, and three little fruit garnishes. But, they were just pancakes, and not even the best ones I have had. So, for me, the noise, the bland taste of the pancakes and the lack of parking makes this a place to skip the next time I am in San Diego.

Tasty breakfasts for all with caveats

By JanKnee |

Be warned that if you want things like real maple syrup, you'll have to pay extra. For a company that specializes in "simple, healthy, tasty" food, this is disappointing. But if you're willing to pay extra for what should be standard, you'll love these restaurants.

Excellent Savory Options and Lucy is Amazing!

By Samer N |

Make sure to get the rosemary potatoes! Lucy thank you for accommodating our bulky stroller and taking care of us 🙏

Perfect pancakes

By Hind A |

Loved the breakfast options, good menu for gluten-free too. Ample family place and great quick service.

Just Ok

By Jennette R |

Decent. Wanted to check out a breakfast spot we never had been to on our trip. The prices were a little much for what you got. The options were pancakes/french toast or Mexican breakfast dishes. Bridget was our sever and although we weren't impressed her customer service skills really shinned.

Big breakfast

By Joey Ferraro |

The place is always packed! There is usually a wait. The food is pretty good. They serve alcohol which is a plus, and the staff is pretty friendly. Portions are big too.

Best breakfast burritos ever!

By Senior2004 |

Fabulous place for breakfast. However, it almost takes an act of God to get a close and decent parking place. That aside, it is a wonderful and warm place to spend an early morning and devour some great food. Well known throughout the land as well, as we shared the restaurant with at least 20 members of the Univ of Michigan girls water polo team. How they found out about it before a match at Long Beach State I have no idea. I would like to be a regular on Saturday or Sunday mornings wiling away the time, but I live 2500 miles away. :(

A regular's review

By Glen K |

I've been coming here at least since the early 2010s (closed during COVID, like everywhere else at that time) and it's always been a great place for me to come in by myself, sit at the counter, and not get judged by anyone. Espresso and food are always good. The menu hasn't changed much over the years but I think that's a good thing. And the staff is excellent. Props to Tara and Lucy who have put up with me the longest over there!

Rosemary Bread

By vagabondginger |

This is a real hot spot in North Park and it's always got waiting lines on the weekends. I came in during the week about 8 am and got a place at the counter. The eggs with the rosemary potatoes and rosemary bread was delicious. I like the local art work that's displayed. It's very server friendly but it does get very busy at times. It's one of the top places in San Diego for breakfast.

Love this Place!!

By Hilda1828 |

We were introduced to this restaurant about 8 years ago and it NEVER disappoints. We come here every time we visit and they are consistently great. Service is fast and friendly - our coffee cup was never empty. Food is delicious! On this trip we ordered the french toast and added two eggs, and bacon to the order. It was enough for two of us. It is a popular restaurant that is open for breakfast and lunch. Prices are very reasonable and menu is sure to please everyone in your party.

Unique and Wonderful

By orth1 |

We wanted to have breakfast before visiting the San Diego Zoo. We read a positive review on The Mission and thought we would try it. What a great choice! This is not your normal breakfast cafe or restaurant. It is a busy, crazy, neighborly, wonderful place. It is rather loud, lively, fun, and the breakfasts are to die for. Gratefully, we got there about 7:45 on a Sunday morning; by 8:00 the place was full; by 8:30, the lines were long. And I know why: the coffee is freshly ground and brewed, the teas were great, the french toast was the best I have eaten, and the blueberry pancakes could not have been better. We arrived, stayed and left really happy.

Excellent, as always..

By RSFdowser |

Great breakfast of their famous Rosemary Potatoes & French toast.... Coffee us good, staff are friendly and professional.... Arrive early or wait....

Sometimes a Wait But Always a Great Meal

By mfmccart |

We visited The Mission Restaurant in North Park (University Ave) on a Saturday morning. Parking was tight and there was a wait but the food was outstanding. Some excellent choices for breakfast, healthy with variety and not the usual bacon and eggs (although you can get them). Prices were reasonable, portions were generous, and service was speedy and friendly.

Feeling like having options?

By Mitzi S |

The mission is particularly one of my favorite breakfast restaurants. I personally love eating brunch at various restaurants and have tried different ones in San Diego, I can tell you with certainty that The Mission is really good. First off, their Rosemary potatoes are exquisite. Second of all, their "Tamal" with Chile Verde is fabulous: it comes with a green non spicy sauce that compliments the lightly sweet tamal. This dish is accompanied by two eggs made however you want them. I ordered mine over medium, and came with black beans on the side. All of their dishes have some authenticity to them, either a Mexican hint, the rosemary potatoes, or the rosemary bread (that I had and it was pretty good), or something completely different. What I like about this place is that its authentic in terms of its Mexican food and its American style. San Diego is known for having good Mexican Food, but most of the food, is not as Mexican for my standards, and this place is quite authentic. The best part is that you DO NOT HAVE TO GET MEXICAN FOOD here if you don't want to, there is french toast, eggs bennedict, and other very American dishes for breakfast. They serve the American Dishes very well too. Their drinks: their drinks are also diverse, they have their traditional lattes, cappuccinos, house blends, etc... But they also have Mexican Style hot chocolate, Mocas, teas, juices, etc... The service: Okay, the waiters and waitresses were polite and patient. HOWEVER, when being seated they are a bit picky if you want to choose your own, or perhaps switch seats. I do mention that it gets PACKED I would say after 9am. Some say you need reservations, or wait for 20-30 minutes. I got there a little before 8:45 on a Saturday morning, and it was fine, I didn't have to wait. But the service can be a bit flawed. They may take a while to get to your table, the food comes quick ones you order but, its something to point out. Prices: Very important! I think the prices of each dish are between $9 and $14 bucks. My Tamal dish costs approximately $11 bucks. Keep in mind, you will spend about $30-40 for two people if you order drinks and a meal each. Overall, I liked this place a lot and I would come back, food is flavorful, dishes are large, prices are okay, its in a good location. Good place to go.

Great place for breakfast

This is an excellent place for breakfast. It appears to be a very popular place with the locals. Has anything you would like for breakfast. The portions were generous and the price reasonable.

BRAVO! Don't miss this one!

Super delicious, super fast and big portions. Cheap. Long line, but we sat at the bar so got in fast. Ate chorizo breakfast burrito and strawberry/banana pancakes. Fresh, gourmet and so good. We talked about it for a few days after. :) Note: Fresh squeezed OJ comes from a plastic jug with a label/UPC so really isn't fresh squeezed. Enjoy!

mmm, but big portions

This place is busy at 9am Sun morning and we had to wait 45 min. And it was the full time. But everything looked great on the menu. STRAWBERRY BANANA PANCAKES 7.25 Fresh strawberry & banana pancakes stacked three high was really large in portion size and what really made me love it more was that it had a fruit puree swirl around the plate ( not chocolate like i thought) MISSION CROISSANT 8.50 Croissant filled with eggs, cheese, tomatoes and scallions, served with fresh fruit. My daughter said it was really good but there was too much cheese in the eggs( and that says alot coming from a kid who loves cheese). ANd who doesn't love breakfast with a side of wholesome fruit( yes pls). CHICKEN APPLE SAUSAGE & EGGS 9.95 Chicken apple sausage is lightly sautéed, served with crispy rosemary potatoes, grilled rosemary bread, and scrambled eggs. This was really good and the rosemary bread was sliced thick and so fluffy. I saved that for last and i swear i wished i could buy a loaf. THe potatoes were not deep fried( yay) and were crisy deliciousness. All the meals were fairly big and i would even say to share if you don't have a big appetite. I saw almost everyone bring food home. good coffee also. It is a place to try if in the area but there are other locations too.

Solid breakfast burrito

Ate here on my last day in San Diego and got food really quickly--less than 5 minutes after ordering, though restaurant was only about 1/3 to 1/2 full when I arrived. Had the breakfast burrito with beans, eggs, and potatoes. Definitely good but nothing super special, though very filling (it came with chips and salsa on the side too). Got an iced Mexican mocha to go and it was also good but nothing too special. Really friendly and efficient service though. The busser was the most attentive one I've seen, making sure someone helped me quickly and giving me a menu after I seated myself. Would eat there again if back in town and was convenient, but wouldn't go out of my way to, and likely would opt for Breakfast Republic across the street before here, though admittedly had very different types of breakfast entrées at both.

Great place for brunch!

We had brunch at The Mission on my birthday. Everything is made fresh to order. The place was pretty full on a Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. which is a real testimony to its popularity. Our waitress was very efficient and friendly.

OMG!!!
