Really good food served by friendly owners

By Joyce A |

This is a locally owned small business, and one of the owners served us. The restaurant is small, and carry out seems to be the bulk of their dinner business at this time. We started with the crab cakes which were crunchy and delicious. We were in the mood for burgers and these did not disappoint. My husband had The New Spot burger, while I chose The Brie. Both burgers were cooked to order and were juicy and flavorful, with generous toppings. My onion rings were cut wide and were coated in a light crispy batter- yum! The only disappointment was the alcoholic beverage menu, which is limited to beer, wine, and sparkling wine-based cocktails. That said, the food was delicious and well-prepated, I would come back again to try out their extensive breakfast menu.

Very Nice Neighborhood Spot

By DonnaandCraig |

A new diner with an old time, welcoming feel graces Polk Street. Very good coffee, all day breakfast, something for everyone, nice size portions - this friendly restaurant has it all. Before or after visiting Russian Hill and Lombard Street head here for some energy to face the steep hills. It is only a short distance away.

Low-key local restaurant

By dustythoughts |

This super-welcoming, very low-key restaurant was exactly what we needed to start our day. It's not a big restaurant and we were lucky to get a table, since it's very popular with locals. Our waitress seemed to know everyone already, which we took as a good sign of repeat customers. We got the Eggs Benedict with corned beef hash and avocado, and the Joe's Omelet on skillet, and both were heavenly. The portions are big (neither of us finished our food) and the prices were reasonable. There were fun signs hanging on the walls.

Best Burger Ever

By pkhome2000 |

We were staying at a nearby hotel and looking for little less expensive place for a family of 4 to eat than the place next to the hotel (which was looking like it would be about $150 when all was said done). Found out about this place and decided to walk the 6-8 blocks to it. It's small, with a distinct neighborhood feel. Service was friendly. My husband said his hamburger was the best Burger he's ever eaten in his life. (He has eaten many). It was about $75 for a family of four.

SO GOOD!!

By Marcy W |

What a delicious brunch! No skimping on food here! Everything was as we ordered it. The homemade jam is a plus! Very pleased and very filling!

Great food, better service!

By DSG1953 |

Large portions, excellent coffee. The only thing better than the food is the service. I highly recommend the children fried steak and eggs.

Make a reservation before you go!

By Darcy B |

Luckily when we found this place on YELP, it allowed us to put our name on the list and then we could track when our table was ready. Very small place but great service and terrific food. Two of us had burgers that were delicious and one had a breakfast skillet that he would highly recommend. If we'd had another day we would have gone back for breakfast. Fresh and tasty. Depending on were you are staying it might be a bit of a walk but worth it!

Small & Delicious

By lovetravel2 |

We walked here from our hotel and was so glad we made the trek. The place is small, but has the best burgers ever. We both had burgers, one the black and bleu, the other the turkey burger and they were so big and good. Cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a quaint diner with friendly service you found it.

Fantastic Filling breakfast

By Danielle C |

We came in for breakfast on a tuesday morning, with no wait, we both had the Hangover omelets. they were amazing. the potatoes were fantastic and we were stuffed when we left. this is a quaint little restaurant with a great staff and gender neutral bathrooms.

Can you say BREAKFAST?

By mjcot |

Spending the night in San Francisco and wanted a great breakfast. This was THE PLACE. We were seated immediately ( admittedly arrived early) and soon were enjoying hot coffee ( which was refilled and heated up every 2 or 3 sips). It was hard to choose so we ordered the breakfast combo of eggs, bacon and waffle AND the homemade granola and yogurt. Over medium eggs cooked to perfection, smoked bacon and a Belgian waffle that left us wanting more. The homemade granola drizzled with honey over fresh yogurt with berries and bananas.... indescribable. Every bite perfect. This place is the real deal. And the mimosa.....

Amazing!

By Thomas Leggett |

We went for dinner on a Saturday night. It was a great atmosphere and friendly service. Ordered some appetisers to share and they were all very tasty, especially the wings. Had a burger which was very good and a nice salad. Large portions and reasonable price. Highly recommend!

Classic Diner Very friendly staff

By Wolfgang H |

Classic Diner Very friendly waitress, good selection of food from starters via breakfast to dinner. Nothing fancy but honest and good. Excellent house made crab cakes - just a bit on the small side for the price...

This comforting, darling place is the reason you go out to eat!

By Pelhamgirl |

Long-time veterans of the now-closed Polkers just opened this charming spot last month. So charming and cozy, this new eatery is perfect for breakfast and lunch. Their Ortega Omelet is light, not drippy and stuffed with green chilis. The Black and Blue Burger is bursting with blue cheese and I could lose all control and order six of 'em. This is a tiny place (not good for groups) and perfect for sitting with your sweetie holding hands and enjoying Russian Hill and the glory that is San Francisco. The staff is welcoming and efficient and if you like coffee in the morning, their Peruvian organic blend is a gift. They are open for dinner, but I have not had a chance to try that menu. Try this place before it gets discovered and then you'll have to wait in the line that no doubt will form as the word gets around about how good this place is.

Food OK, service friendly but slow, problems with app

By Frederick711 |

The food here was nice, although the portions were perhaps a little small if you're hoping for the great American breakfast. A bigger problem was the queueing system and service. Checked the app in advance which said no line - sadly not true when we got there it was a 45 minute wait. Once on the steps outside, it took a good while to get our table ready and a good while longer to order and serve the food. I'd recommend the food, but service and overall experience not so much.

Really nice American breakfast

By ilsel2017 |

Perfect place for a nice breakfast. I ate very nice yogurt with fruit and granola and pancakes with Maple syrup. Pretty big portions. Friendly service and friendly staff. Typical American Diner interior.

Excellent Breakfast and Superb Service and smile!

By JTreloar |

I was staying at the Epik Hotel on Polk and walked to find a good breakfast place towards Fisherman's wharf. I found The New Spot on Polk and went in because I saw the waitperson smiling at the people in the booth in the window. Seems a good reason I reckon! The food was great diner food, eggs, potatoes and bacon with good drip filter coffee. Cant beat it!

A breakfast gem!

By Hanno T |

We stayed at the Pacific Heights Hotel and accidentally found this marvelous breakfast place! The menu offers a large variety of all kinds of different breakfast dishes! The coffee selection is also very delicious! The service is attentive and very friendly! This is not a very touristy place! Here you’ll have a good chance of getting together with people from the neighborhood!

Delicious Dinner, Great service

By Jerker D |

Wonderfull little restaurant, friendly service and good food!! Definitely a recommendation to anyone visiting San Francisco!

Great breakfast

By Carey T |

Great breakfast and friendly staff. A lot of variety to choose from..... the Monte Cristo waffle was a great choice!

a MUST

By Marissa L |

This place was amazing!! My boyfriend and I visited over the weekend while we stayed in SF. This place was walking distance from our hotel. I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. 10/10..( next time I'd order it without the sauce on top bec it was so messy to eat and made the tortilla soggy). My other half ordered scram eggs, potatoes, with b&g. He loved it! Def would go back! Great service!!

Great breakfast!

By Bizzerchic |

We were visiting the area and found this place on another website. We liked it so much we went back the next day. The service is great and the food was delish.

Cute Local Stop

By Ruben C |

The New Spot on Polk had excellent reviews when we searched for food near us. It turned out to be absolutely fabulous! The owner is so sweet and goes above and beyond. Her dedication to her restaurant and customer service is very evident. The food and atmosphere of the place are also great! Definitely a great little stop, especially for some breakfast food!!

Didn’t want the “same old thing”

By Izoom3 |

Been in SF a couple days sightseeing. Didn’t want the normal tourist food. This place was around the corner from our hotel. WOW! Needed something light but filling that didn’t give us that over full feeling. Had the most awesome dinner salads ever. Husband got salmon added to his and it was cooked to perfection. My salad had an abundance of walnuts, apples and cheese. Just what we wanted when we went in not knowing what we wanted. This is a quaint neighborhood place where both the food and service are excellent.

Yummy diner-style

By IanM754 |

-Food great. (Had buffalo chicken sandwich.) -Service great. -This is a diner: not too fancy. Can't quite call it "cozy". Still , great food reasonable price. I'd go again.

Best coffee in SF

By 888will |

I had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast here two days in a row. The coffee is excellent (the owner told me it is a Peruvian organic coffee) and the food is really great as well. The avocado toast with crispy bacon and the pancakes were delicious. Service is also great, fast and friendly. I really recommend this place.

Tasty and filling

By Lee N |

We put our name on the call ahead list and a table was ready by the time we had walked there. Everything is a generous portion and priced well. We shared the Ortega skillet (avocados, Ortega peppers which are quite mild, and over medium eggs on potatoes and onions) and a great cornflake encrusted French toast layered with a vanilla custard, topped with fresh whipped cream and surrounded by fresh berries. Very filling!

Great food / no wait

By Lacey H |

I wanted to go to Sugar Maple this morning, but the line was around the corner and looked to be 1.5 hours long so I decided to Uber to the New Spot. I got seated right away although you may have had a 10 min wait if your not solo. Service was quick. Food tasted great. I had an aloha to drink and corn flakes crusted French toast.

A great find!

By karen |

We came across this diner on our walk down towards the harbour on our second day on SF. We received a friendly welcome and great service. Breakfast was amazing; we had Denver omelette and French toast combo with great coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. We loved it so much we returned the next day! My husband tried the Hangover skillet and said it was good. Best breakfast we’ve had on our big road trip of California/Utah/Nevada!! Highly recommend a visit!

Amazing little gem

By Andy C |

Fantastic selection of dishes, soup, sandwich, breakfast, the homemade jam is awesome. The British lady was the most welcoming person we have met so far, such a nice host. Excellent service, great location and the best food so far, well worth a visit.

Loved the breakfast!

By arizona-mark |

A new breakfast favorite! Massive portions, great potatoes and killer pancakes. the bacon was awesome too. thank you Fariza for the wonderful service.

100% yummy breakfast!

By JodiUrsu |

We stopped in here for breakfast one morning last week during our vacation and looking back now I wish we had gone every day. Upon entering it was a very home like family feeling. The server (who maybe was the owner?) suggested the corned beef to my husband, I had the heuevos rancheros and both were absolutely delicious and the mimosas were a very generous size. Also it was amusing and heartwarming to listen to the server train a younger lady who was obviously just starting with nurturing warmth. We will be back on our next visit to San Francisco.

Great Diner for breakfast

By X-rays-on-the-go |

I happened to go here as i really felt like a proper american breakfast. polk has many great culinary delights but nothing as unassuming as the New Spot. Opened by a former waitress who worked in another place on polk it serves all sorts of dishes from American high stack pancakes to omelets, chicken fried steak and biscuits. Luan the waitress, originally from the UK was fantastic. i was sat her observing her and how she knew what every customer needed. she knew who wanted to be left alone and who needed a chat. The coffee is good, the price very reasonable and the pancakes were yummy! Pancakes were the right balance of having a bite and fluff, very more-ish and matched nicely with the chicken apple sausages.

Excellent service, excellent food!

By Melissa A |

Great tasting food, large portions, great location, and very friendly service 45 minutes before closing. If i’m ever back in san francisco, i’ll be back!

A great spot to enjoy a meal in an interesting neighborhood

By Len B |

Good food, fast and friendly service, unique and charming decor, great breakfast standards plus some yummy original dishes. Easy access.

Great discovery and a happy breakfast time

By Mark K |

Had reserved a table for breakfast September 2nd.....and we are glad we did ! Asked a local for the direction....and he told us they had good food ! We can only confirm it. Great breakfast, nice hospitality and we liked the mixed crowd present; Motorbike cops, elderly, families, locals and some newcomers as us ! Now I know where to go when in the beautiful city by the bay Thanks to nice people working there

I wished I knew about this place before!

By ImaMY |

Had brunch with a friend, and we both loved the food and the friendly service. Living in San Francisco, we'll certainly be back.

Come for great food. Leave with a full belly.

By Mike W |

Every part of our visit here was awesome. Yes we should’ve been added to the waitlist but honestly worth the wait. Friendly front door staff asks for how many are in your party while dogs from the neighborhood literally sit waiting for treats. Great coffee. The Omelette I had was amazing so much flavor. We had lots of walking planned that day and we were able last the whole day without lunch so come hungry. Please come to Seattle. :)

Great place to eat :)

By Norman H |

Food was very good. We went there couple times and it was always great :) Stuff is very friendly. Even food for vegagarians :)

Fantastic breakfast

By AnalieseD |

French toast, skillet omelettes and the granola were all great. Cute little corner spot. Definitely worth a stop in for breakfast if you're in town!

Great breakfast!!

By magnoliaeleven |

Came here about 10:15am on Sunday. It was very busy. They said the wait was 30 minutes. So we put our name on the list and they said they would text us. A little more than 30 minutes later our table was ready. It is a very small place, about 11 tables most for only 2 people and 4 booths that appear to seat 4 each. My wife ordered the south of the border skillet without sour cream which came with toast and house potatoes. I ordered the breakfast sandwich (eggs, bacon and cheddar on white bread) which came with house potatoes. Our order was delivered in a timely fashion. My wife really liked the south of the border skillet. My sandwich was good as well.

Get the skillet!

By Climber624250 |

My family of four loved this place. We went twice on our vacation. The food is delicious and the portions are really big. The service is warm, especially from the owner (at least, I think he was the owner). I'd skip the bloody mary, but everything else was awesome.

Amazing American Breakfast

By HSIMR |

Every time I’m in San Francisco I have breakfast here: two eggs sunny side up, applewood smoked chicken sausage and two blueberry hot cakes. Great mix of tech industry, local residents and tourists.

Friendly, Delicious and Fast

By Stephanie B |

This diner was near our motel, and we were walking back after a full day of sightseeing. We were cold and tired. We were able to get a table right away, and the folks there took great care of us. My husband had a delicious burger and fries, and I had the Denver omelet made into a skillet. Everything was great. I had the habanero strawberry jam on my sourdough toast and it was delicious as well. It's a great neighborhood spot, not crazy with tourists.

Pride of ownership...and great food!!

By GlobalExec |

Our hats off to Sam and his incredible team! The breakfast was quintessential comfort food...fresh, well-prepared, and delicious! The location was a bit tight and crowded (obviously well loved by the well-mannered local foodies, but that didn't matter since everyone had adequate space, responsive, impeccable service , and the special recognition from our host (Sam) made the overall breakfast experience off-the-charts enjoyable! On top of all of that...it was a terrific value!!

Good Coffee

By Jerry W |

Overview:  quick service not rushed.  Good menu selection.  Parking can be hard. Meal/Time: Brunch/Saturday at 1030ish. Seated: 1029AM Ordered: 1033AM First ordered item arrived: 1046AM Decor/Atmosphere:  rustic diner/speakeasy feel with outside seating.   Nice dark wood tables.  Wood paneled walls and large windows. Service/ Front of the House:  seated us quickly.  We had an 11AM reservation, arrived early and were seated. Service/Serving Staff:  wait staff not too personable... just a "Hi, are you ready to order?".  I don't even know her name. She did come back to top off my coffee...once.   Guest Wi-Fi available....password is on the wall. Food: Hangover omelet ($18) - bacon, ham and sausage in one dish!!  Pretty good.  For toast, I only got two half slices of bread.  The country potatoes were good, tender and well seasoned.  The only negative was the temperature of the dish...everything except the omelet filling was only warm.  The filling was still pretty hot being surrounded by the eggs.   Monte Cristo Waffle ($16) - Not really a true monte cristo... the waffle sandwich was not egg or battered dipped.  The ham was replaced by battered chicken strips.  The chicken batter was unseasoned.  There is syrup in a squeeze bottle at the table.  No butter was served with the dish.   Coffee ($3.50)  temperature is perfect.  Not scorching hot like American coffee, but not the barely hot one you get in Europe. Value:  Not a bad value for San Francisco Brunch.   Restroom: single unisex restroom.  Really really narrow.  Not handicap friendly. Will I come back?:  I would only for the coffee and the country potatoes.

Fantastic Burger

By Gabigabs |

There are many good choices in this neighborhood but if you feel like a good burger, you cannot miss this place. Fantastic food and service.

Excellent breakfast

By Vally194 |

A group of four of us booked a table due to the queue, and it was well worth the wait. I was on crutches at the time and was even offered a chair to sit outside! Once inside we were made welcome and had great advice from the waitress on what to try. The meals were ace, I had Denver skillet, wow what a feast: house potatoes, cheese, bacon and all served with fried eggs on top. Yummy.

Overhyped by the locals.

By Ryan Carter |

+ Friendly staff. + Clean place, and decent options on the menu including all-day breakfast. - Burgers weren't as good as the price portrays. Left a cheap, greasy burger taste in the mouth afterwards. - Paid an extra $2 to upgrade from French fries to onion rings which were disappointing. No real taste and just way too much batter. - Felt expensive but this was down to the quality of food in comparison. Prices were on par with other places in the area but the food really let it down. - There was also a buzzing noise coming from the speakers during our visit. They had a phone connected to their speaker system which sounded like the cable wasn't connected properly, and there wasn't any music playing to drown it out either.

More than just American Diner

By Susan |

Good foods, value for money that serve by cheerful people. Good WiFi connection too. My family and I looking forward to return after our 1st visit and we did. We had our brunch before our departure, we just need to have it.

Great new food spot on Polk

By cadamsesq |

I've been to this new location several times the past week. The food is quite good, better than others in the area. I was very impressed with the quality, nicer than one has come to expect from too many others who skimp. The staff is great, very fun, and helpful (Luan, you're amazing!). I would highly recommend this place ... though I might regret saying so if it gets too busy.

Friendly place with big breakfast

By lost_bobcat |

Stopped here for breakfast as it was across the street from our daughters apartment on Polk. A great street by the way with so much to see and eat :-) I had the denver omlett and it has mushrooms as well as two meats, it was huge. Other omletts were big and tasty. Our waitress was a delight and the food came out quickly. My only complaint is that they had no coffee, only expresso drinks (so an Americano was the choice).

Excellent, wish we had time to go back

By 179sherylk |

Varied & diverse menu with lots of great choices. We had the tuna melt, veggie soup, and the arugula & beet salad. (Would have liked a little less dressing on the salad) Waitress was extremely friendly, easy to get a table. Fresh pressed juice was delicious. Prices reasonable for portion sizes. Single bathrooms, gender neutral 👍🏼

Good local breakfast

By MrJE2013 |

Had a breakfast here with two friends. I had the huevo rancheros that tasted very well. Very efficient and friendly waitresses.

Best burgers & friendly quick service

By SUSAN L |

We were tired after a long day of site seeing, decided to just find a restaurant in walking distance of our hotel. We walked to “ The new spot on Polk”, the food was great, portions large & service was excellent. We all enjoyed our burgers, I had the stuffed blue burger, it was awesome.

Do not be put off by the outside

By PeterHartmann |

The sight of the diner is not very inviting. But if you go inside, you get good American cuisine. The prices are normal. The service is quite friendly. I‘ll come again.

Fab place

By Sharon H |

Extensive menu suitable for breakfast as well as lunch. Great service and very friendly and accommodating staff. Loved this place and it laid back vibe. Extremely clean too. Food great

Little spot of heaven

By Matthew K |

When visiting San Francisco my wife and I needed to get some great breakfast food after a night out, and we found all that and more here. We both ordered breakfast skillets, me the Hangover and her the Denver and they were exactly what we needed. The orange juice was the tastiest I think I've ever had. Staff was extremely friendly and happy to have us there. Really just can't say enough good things about this place except that you need to go there!

Breakfast before SFO walking tour and cable cars

By jonmcwhite |

Looked online for a breakfast spot close to our motel and this came up. Arrived just after it opened and glad we did because seems very popular with the locals. Coffee was good, food fresh and served promptly. Waitress was attentive, just a really good spot for breakfast. By the time we left people were waiting for tables.

A Good Find

By Adam |

After visiting a different burger bar the night before and leaving very unsatisfied, we thought we would try The New Spot On Polk. We are very glad we did as the quality and presentation of the food was outstanding. The price of the food is also very reasonable for the area. If we were in SF for longer we would definitely visit again!

Great food!

By Kelly F |

Food was good. Service was exceptionally slow and they were more preoccupied with closing rituals (though that was almost an hour and a half away). They were friendly when around. Food reasonably priced, nice sized portions. Everything was really good! Not opposed to returning when we’re in the area again!

Delicious!

By Arra13 |

Went here for an early dinner with out 9month old baby. The food was really good. Can highly recommend the crab sandwich! It is also really good that all the burgers on the menu can be made with a vegan patty!! The staff were so accommodating with our child and brought his food as soon as it was ready. All parents will understand how hard it is to keep a child entertained in a restaurant so this was a really nice touch!! The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient!

A Place with Great Potential

By Harry W |

We enjoyed a late breakfast here on a Sunday. A former Chinese restaurant, the place has been extensively remodeled into a charming bistro-like vibe. The wait staff clearly enjoys working together and that is always fun to see. They have an automatic orange juicer which is another good sign -- each glass of OJ is produced to order. My wife had the avocado toast which she enjoyed immensely. I had a short stack of pancakes and a side of eggs-over-easy. The eggs were perfectly done, but not piping hot. I think they might want to consider an infrared warmer to keep side plates like this toasty warm. All in all, we loved the vibe and the food! We'll be back!

Great food, value and service.

By Martin Y |

Excellent service and food... A very lucky find on our first trip to San Francisco. Staffand owner work hard to make your visit enjoyable.. Prices are reasonable too. Well worth a trip to the quieter end of Polk Street by Union...

Great service, great food at a good price.

By Itsallaboutmememe |

In town for the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon and found this place from a Google search and glad we did, having found San Francisco quite expensive and disappointing so far, reviews recommended here and they were right. All fresh and made from scratch, generous servings and friendly service. Would definitely recommend.

Dinner before a concert

By Dawne M |

Where do I start, go there hungry, there portions are huge, for a great price! Very good breakfast skillets even at late dinner time! The waitress was very nice! I noticed quite a few door dash deliveries, which is probably a good sign, the locals like the food too! To be honest my husband and I are trying to think of an excuse to visit SF just to eat there again!

Busy, good drinks, nice people

By pieboyinspain |

We stopped for a quick drink. Juices were amazing, cold and fresh. Staff/owners were lovely and from Devon too! Well priced Food looked great

Best breakfast we had in SF

By Al |

We went here for breakfast and it's a great find. The fried potatoes with breakfast were amazing, as were the eggs an bacon. Good menu and very friendly staff.

Great Neighborhood Spot.

By Esther W |

Met friends, who lived in the neighborhood, for lunch here. I ordered the Avocado Toast which was perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive. Coffee was great. A neighborhood gem!

Family breakfast - would have gone again had we stayed in SF longer!

Very Friendly, Tasty Breakfast, Great Service... no need to say anymore! Breakfast before our trip to Alcatraz, set us up for the day
