Shanghai Room is a Great Karaoke Dive bar. Get there early on Fri, Sat, and Sun. for Comedy at 7 and Karaoke starting at 9. When the late great Anthony Bourdain was in Seattle this was his place. this place is like a 2-in-1. on one side you have the North Star Diner and On the other the Shanghai Room

My wife and I stopped in here early one Saturday morning and loved it! It is quirky, eclectic, and the perfect representation of Seattle. The food was great (pancakes were AMAZING) and the service was wonderful! Highly recommend starting your day here.

Good food, good service, good prices - just what you want in a diner, especially one that serves breakfast late at night if you need it. Located in the heart of Greenwood, this is a welcome spot if you've been out enjoying the area for the evening and need a late-night snack. The clientele can get a little sketchy late at night, so go with the right expectations. Just good diner food - enjoy the daily specials!

Ultimate diner experience in every way from best coffee in thick diner mugs, perfect eggs, perfect sausage, perfect hash browns and perfect pancakes with your own generous jug of maple syrup. The decor is also perfect!

Very good food, atmosphere and vibe are really fun. Jimmy is a great bartender :) Can't wait to return.

This great diner used to be a Chinese restaurant. What I love about these folks is the decor hasn't changed one bit. The lounge is still dark and slightly seedy, but the place rocks! There is a Bloody Mary Bar on Sundays. They show old movies and cook up an amazing breakfast to boot! I frequent this joint!

We stumbled on the restaurant and were overwhelmed with the service and taste of the food. There is a lot on the menu. The fried brussels sprouts were wonderful. The lettuce wedge salad was fresh, huge and covered with tomato, blue cheese, and blue cheese dressing. It is easily twice as large as what you expect. Great service and terrific food.

The funky interior combines the former Asian restaurant decor with the current cosmic look. The menu selection was extensive and has more emphasis on breakfast offerings that are served throughout the day. I went with their basic cheeseburger and fries for lunch, I missed not having lettuce in it, but it did taste good. I was not impressed with the fries. I suspect they had cooked them earlier and then fried them again a second time. They were dark and greasy on the outside, and not tasting fully cooked or hot on the inside. The service was very good during my visit.

North Star is a solid dive diner located in an old Chinese restaurant in the heart of Greenwood. The portions are good sized. Eggs were pretty good (my lox and eggs were a bit dry, but okay) - French Toast & Pancakes are better. Solid Chicken Fried Steak as well. My brunch Michelada with Modelo was very good! They have a nice cocktail list here. They serve the Singapore Sling here - I'm looking forward to visiting that vintage cocktail!! It's interesting how they've re-purposed the old decor. I can remember being in here a couple times as a teen and I'm impressed they kept the ceiling decorations. Excellent wait staff. It really is dive-y in here, with chipped tables, a certain air and a slightly wonky layout...so if you're looking for chi-chi, skip and leave me in peace to eat.

I love the food, the vibe, the waitstaff, the bar. Breakfast is Outstanding but so is lunch and dinner. It's a great neighborhood restaurant! Love it there.

This is the best breakfast in Seattle. The atmosphere is hipster and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Parking is free out back. My wife has the smoked salmon omelet and I feast on two buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and real maple syrup (only try 3 cakes if you are really hungry). The pancakes are so good I usually eat half without syrup. My mouth is watering just thinking about going back.

The restaurant has a cool vibe and the service was really good. The food was bland for my taste, but well-cooked and made from good ingredients.

My brother brought me here for Sunday breakfast and man am I glad he did. Attached to an awesome bar, this place is just everything you think when you think of Seattle. The awesome host/waiter/manager wearing a backwards cap and being super cool. The waitress's with sick tattoos being the most friendly people on the planet. The Chinese/astronaut, space/diner vibe. This place honestly has it all. The food was amazing, portions were huge, glass bottles of water on the table. The ambiance was the best. I would love to come back.

Good breakfast plus excellent, friendly service at the North Star. We've come here for lunch and dinner but keep coming back for their breakfast. It can get busy and parking can be tight but they do 'validate' for the lot behind the joint.

North Star has a nice and varied menu. As a group of six we were all able to find something. All of the lunches were good. The service was very good.

I go here all the time. Fast Wi-fi, awesome karaoke next door, super nice staff. This is my go to place in Greenwood. 24 hours! I go here in the early mornings usually to grade papers and then again for happy hour and then sometime for late night dinner here or in their Shaghai Room. Love love love this place.

If you need background info, check out the North Star Diner website. It will give you the reasoning behind the Seattle vibe that this place is cultivating. And while I was there, I did have some flashes of "old Seattle"-like the OK Hotel and Ballard when it wasn't the Center of the Universe. AND, best of all, they have the best breakfast creation: hash brown benedict!

The Shanghai Room has easily become our favorite haunt in Seattle. It’s the quintessential dive bar-dimly lit with Christmas lights, sticky floors, faux leather chairs/bench seating, strong cocktails, deep fried bar food. It’s amazing. The happy hour runs til 7 which is a huge perk. They have a rotating craft cocktail selection...and cheesy fries. We highly recommend the cheesy fries, chips & salsa, mac-n-cheese, and the meatloaf.

I love it here. 24/7 the diner is my favorite place in greenwood. Good food, fast WiFi. Friendly service. Great drinks. Love. It’s my local person hangout.
Good food - no access for mobility impaired.
We showed up at peak breakfast Sat Am (around 10am) - admittedly a bad idea. It grew crowded and very, very noisy. I'm on crutches by the way, and there is NO disabled parking in front, or in back. Coming from the back, there are a short set of stairs and a long, linoleum floor hall way to the dining room. The dining room, when busy, affords you NO path to one side or the other of the dining room - you pretty much just have to impose on everyone to make way. In a fire, you'd just have to wait for everyone else to leave first. So - not a great facility for mobility challenged - a wheel chair simply wouldn't work at all. That said, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the pancakes and french toast we had was quite good.
