Stayed at the Westin St. Francis in the center of Union Square which is wonderful. Last day of 5 we met a lady friend before our departure and had lunch at the Oak Room. There were only four other people in the room so it gave us time to talk in a quite setting for two hours. The food was subpar and the waiter was rude. Just go to the Faralon or Sears which are just steps away.

...while waiting for Michael Mina's. The staff was great and the drinks were perfect. The bar is conveniently located just a short walk from Union Square.

Had a great dinner here at The Oak Room. Food is great, desserts were awesome, and the staff is so attentive! Chefs do a great job here! Waiter was Zach I believe. One of the most iconic hotels in all of San Francisco. So much history and tradition. You feel you are in another era of time. The Oak Room exemplifies this feeling. Not too many restaurants in the city offer this.

High marks for atmosphere, service and food. Really had a great experience. Valet parking at the hotel was a little pricey but that's to be expected at a large hotel downtown in a major city.

Place seems like serving leftover food from yesterday at breakfast buffet, cold and totally not appetizing. As it is inside a hotel be prepared to pay a lot of money for it too. The servers are downright rude and have no idea of courtesy is, actually the place was not full and they still treat you like "when are you leaving?" Do yourself a favor: Go out and eat on the great places you find on the street around the hotel.

Oh my goodness, the best prime rib ever! and a wonderful breakfast buffet! I was part of a tour group of 30 and not one complaint; all left with very happy tummies :)

We ordered the salmon and tofu bagel without the salmon and the waiter brought something fantastic. We were so impressed and pleased. Beautiful space. Very busy on a Sunday morning, but the wait staff were terrific.

After all bad reviews, we took a risk and try The Oak Room for breakfast. No complains, we had Benedict Eggs, and Salmon Bagel. My daughter kids menu (5 small decent hotcakes) coffee refill, and a great service and taste of food. For breakfast is a good option. We didn't try the buffet, just a la carta.

Buffet was really extensive and very tasty. You can also order off the menu. We purchased the room with breakfast, so we could do either.

Maybe it's holiday season, but things seem a bit disorganized at breakfast time in the Oak Room. Since breakfast for one can easily approach $50, getting the order correct and in a timely fashion should be de rigeur.

I had dinner here at an overstay in the hotel. Nothing wrong, nothing really, really right. We enjoyed our meal, but trust me - you don't have to eat here. There are plenty of alternatives in the nearest neighbourhood.

Beautiful venue and the staff were just outstanding. Very friendly and great personality. The food tasted great, however the prime rib was not served medium rare. We were so enamored of the experience and the staff that we didn't even complain...it did taste very good.

We ate several breakfasts here and one dinner. The food was exceptional everytime. The food was cooked exactly to our request. The service was also exceptional. Nothing else to say, perfect.

steeped in history - so much - that I almost felt a part of it too dry for me for once, even the service was not upto the mark the food quality is good though

Ate here two years before our first visit. This was in the Westin where we were staying so super convenient. This is a beautiful old wooden paneled room. The one drawback is that it is in the hotel so it does not have any windows. We got the fixed menu again. I love the crab chowder, need to find a recipe so I can make it at home, my husband said how much he remembered liking it and the cheese they put in it. We both had the prime rib this time. SO good, I like my meat more on the rare side so I ordered it med rare and it was terrific. There is so much food as they give you steamed veggies, a baked potato and it comes with sides for the potato and meat (sour cream, bacon and horseradish) We loved this be careful and focus on the meat otherwise you will regret leaving a lot of it on the plate like I did two years ago. We asked to get the cheesecake wrapped up for later and the waiter packaged it so nicely we ate it after we took a nice walk thru chinatown. The strawberry sauce and whipped cream were all packaged separate so it wasn't mushy later on. I do plan to come back here for dinner next time we are in San Francisco and hope they still have the fixed menu!!!

The touristy craze of union square drove us to try this restaurant in the Westin SF. The place is large with no windows, but the service is impeccable. We arrived 20 min to closing and they seated is and served us without rushing us or making us feel uncomfortable. The food was fantastic and seating was very comfortable. The meal can be pricey but I recommend it for families who need room for stroller and comfort for the family.

Brunch was included in our package. I don't know how expensive it would be, but it was amazing. There was no toaster for self serve which I appreciated. I asked the server for a bagel toasted and it was delivered. The omelette was prepared perfectly with the option of whites only offered. Coffee was served in a carafe on the table. We felt well taken care of and left ready to greet a day in the City.

Came in for lunch today, host was so nice, our server was older woman salt and pepper hair, not pleasant , at the end of our meal my guests were ordering deserts I told her that I have a severe allergy to all nuts, she dismissed me, my husband orderd apple desert, it was deliverd and again I said does this have nuts? She snapped and said I didn't realize you were going to eat any of this, I said can you please ask the chef, she was snappy walked away.25minutes later after my husband ate it all, she never came back I had to ask busser for check 10 min later she came back after desert plates were cleared and said that there are no nuts but its too late now! Really? I own a fine dining restaurant if any of my staff would do that to my patrons it would be there last day. I was stunned. So sad because food was so good!! Sent from my iPhone

At the last minute we needed a reservation. I heard the food was good and I especially wanted Prime Rib. It turns out The Oak had a prefix dinner option with 3 courses for $49.00. Crab Chowder soup, that was so delicious. 2nd course was the beloved Prime Rib, I ordered a specific cut. It was delivered as promised. Cheese covered potatoes, divine. Steamed vegetable rounded out the well balanced plate. Dessert non traditional Cheese Cake, very good. Outstanding service with coffee, water and the extras we needed. We were able to visit with our friends for hours that was a bonus. I would recommend this place and come back.

We went to the Oak Room and found it to be just OK The waiter is the bartender, the prime rib was somewhat tough When I asked for a Grey Goose gimlet with Rose's lime juice they had no idea what I was asking for Somewhat disappointed

We stayed at the Weston and ate breakfast here daily. Staff were great. Food was delicious. Crowded on weekend mornings.

This was our first stay at the Westin St Francis, and also my first visit to the Oak Room, just off of the lobby, of that venerable hotel. As my wife had very early meetings in the hotel, I was dining solo. The room is elegant, befitting a fine-dining venue, but I was there for Breakfast. I was promptly seated at a 4-top, in the main dining area. and began perusing the menu, over my coffee. I ordered the Eggs Benedict w/ two poached eggs on a toasted English muffin, Canadian bacon, sweet butter hollandaise sauce with rosemary hash brown potatoes, which was very good. I was not sure about that hollandaise sauce, from the description, but it worked, and worked well. The rosemary garnish for the potatoes was more like a small shrubbery, but did make a statement. Orange juice, and coffee, were both good. Service was excellent, and I lingered over more coffee, working on my iPad for a bit, after the meal was complete. While not what I would call “inexpensive,” the meal was a good “value,” and with the high level of service, and the venue, a lovely way to start my morning. There is also a buffet, set up in a smaller room, just off of the main dining room, but I never experienced it, during my stay in May, 2017

The St. Francis is an institution in San Francisco, and the Oak Room is on a par with it. Beautiful oak-paneled walls, quiet and attentive service, good food, and big prices. We had lunch here on a weekday. The waiters are very professional, and our food was beautifully served. We had the chopped salad--very tasty and fresh, if pricey. The drink prices are typical outrageous hotel prices, and I include the iced tea in that. Lovely fresh sourdough bread is served with the meal. I don't expect we'll return, but I'm glad I had the chance to eat in that beautiful room.

This place used to be a quality, classy, place for Christmas dinner. Not anymore. The turkey was not fresh, but rather turkey roll. The great wait service is gone. One of our servers had no grasp of English, and could not understand I wanted a glass of water. This place appears to be an example of what happens when you turn a once beautiful city into a sanctuary city. Poor service and poor quality food. Wife will not visit San Francisco anymore , due to the poor conditions.

Over priced buffet . $32.00 for cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt , scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage . But if you order off the menu it's about the same. Also the price for a salad is high too at lunch, $20 plus depending what you order, and $5.50 for coffee or ice tea. Breakfast waitress was Awful. Didn't ask what kind of toast we wanted just assumed we wanted sour dough , same with the eggs. Because we were a Party of 8 ,her tip was already included , so she didn't care.

Worst service in my life. Waited 1 1/2 hours at least for our food (and our food is still not here). Wine was terrible. Asked for bread 3 times due to the delay and they couldn't even get that to us. Avoid this place like the plague. ANYTHING else within a 30 min. walk is better than the agony and wait. DON'T DO IT!!!

Food was excellent and many selections. I had the salmon and it was done so that it was not dry. The starter was a delicious crab chowder. For dessert I had the cheesecake with raspberry oculista and berry garnish. The menu was prepared for a special farewell dinner and is available for lunch. One additional thing that I would like to add is that the hotel likes to promote an Eat Well menu for kids.

We ate here as part of a group and enjoyed a good meal and excellent service. We also had breakfast in the Oak Room, which was buffet style.

Stayed at the Westin and decided on the first night to dine in the Oak Room. Good choice as the service was really great and the food complimented the service. We opted for the $49.00 meals for all 3 of us and found this to we a great choice. The food was perfect. We dined on steak and chicken for mains with a very tasty cheesecake as desert. We recommend this as a cheap alternative at a 5 star hotel.

The Oak Room is an interesting place. While the service is warm, and the spread good, the options for vegetarians are limited.

Such a nice, warm, quiet, elegant place and great food. The crab bisque was wonderful as were the scallops. I highly recommend their "Razatini" - yummy! Service was attentive. In this age of noisy restaurants, it was nice to be able to have a conversation over dinner.

We tried the Oak Room our first morning and were chilled to the bone. The head waiter said it had never been so cold there. I guess there was not even enough heat in the kitchen as my pancakes were raw in the middle and the bottom side. My spouse shared his ample omelet, but we were disappointed.

We ate breakfast here twice while staying at the Westin. The wood-paneled room is upscale and quite nice — a very enjoyable and quiet setting for breakfast or lunch. Our meals were very good. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, Crab Omelette and French Toast, with sides of bacon — we recommend each of those choices. Excellent coffee and orange juice as well. Our servers were very friendly and attentive.

I was simply amazed at how exquisitely the chef prepared my eggs Benedict. This is my all time favorite breakfast, so I am picky and judgemental about my Benedicts. Perfectly poached eggs, at the optimum temperature, on fresh buttered English muffin, soft and perfectly toasted. Hollandaise sauce was fresh and well balanced, with a masterful blend of all ingredients. Even the hash browned potatoes were amazing! So fresh, with the right combination of crisp and soft, and such good potato flavor, I did NOT use hot sauce. And the grapefruit juice was really good quality - not fresh squeezed - but delicious.

I was here for breakfast so my review is based on that experience only. We stayed in hotel and had free breakfast for two people included in the package. We were three so decided to pay for one and enjoy breakfast in the elegant, classy dinning room but were very disappointed with the quality of food and service we received, especially for the price. Food - Below average, small basic spread you will find in non luxury hotels like Holiday inn. Only extra was Smoked salmon and may be cheese platter. No made to order egg station, only scrambled eggs were available. Didn't even see a good bread selection. Service -- Below average, unfriendly server although he accommodated a request to bring a bagel to the table (bagel were not in the buffet spread) but we had to ask him things twice, didn't explain anything like what juices are available, only told when we asked. and then comes the check with 3 buffet breakfast so I reminded him of two free and charge for one, he comes back with updated check but this time for 2 breakfast so again reminded him that we need to pay for only one.

we had buffet breakfast in the morning and dinner at night. lots of choices and yummy food. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. great atmosphere

The Oak Room is conveniently located close to the elevators of the hotel. The food is excellent and very fresh. The breakfast buffet is good, and it has a large variety of items to choose from. However, the prices are pretty high for the buffet and for dinner. I had friendly waiters and fast service.

old club style feel, good food selection and service, but not relaxing. not a lot to look at. its really just a nice but functional breakfast bar. the staff were friendly and everything, but its a go in , eat, and move on..

My husband is a huge fan of big breakfasts, me not so much. We ate here one morning, he opted for the $40 buffet and loved it. I had a much simpler yogurt, fruit and granola. We were both quite happy with our choices. The service was a bit slow, they did not have a lot of staff for the number of people who kept wandering in to eat. The restaurant only serves breakfast and lunch with a break in between service hours . (Closed between 10:30 - noon). There is no dinner service anywhere in the hotel. It is a beautiful old oak paneled room as the name suggests (formerly the men's grill) and very quite. It is down the hall away from the lobbies and can be easily missed.

The staff was so great, and when I ordered off the menu, it came quickly. Yes, you pay for it, but it is a Westin. Can't say enough about the staf here.

Sometimes has been a line to get in. Petty standard highend hotel fare, but well prepared and fairly quick service. A step up from the lobby fare. Some interesting lighter fare

We found this restaurant ourselves and we were lucky, because the kitchen is excellent. They have three chefs: 1. Chef from Germany; 2. Chef from US; 3. Chef from France. We were served by Russian speaking waiter from Ukraine, Iryina. They do fantastic tasty French onion soup, crab chowder soup, as main dish artic cod. The service by Iryina was excellent as well. Oak Room was built 1904. We really recommend this place.

Very good food and quality of service for the price. The three course meal is a value for $45/PP and includes a glass of wine. Will go back for dinner.

Just average, very pricey for what you get, bacon and eggs with toast was $30 I will not go back. The Hotel was enjoyable.

We dined here around 9PM but we assume we were given their regular dinner menu. If so, it is very limited. Very expensive. Good place if you need to get some late night food when everything else is closed. We had the caesar salads with chicken and prawns. No complaints. Hard to screw up a caesar salad. Too many other choices outside the hotel to make this a place I would ever recommend to anyone.

We were staying at the hotel for a few days and one evening we weren't feeling brave enough to go out for diner. The kids were exhausted, so we ended up at the hotel restaurant. It was very disappointing. This was the worst hamburger I've had in 3wks in Cali (including hamburger joints which were 3x cheaper), chewy, walmart-like bun, warmish... My daughter had a cobb salad which felt industrial-ish. My wife had a good rib, but this was it. We escaped quickly. There are enough restaurants within walking distance in the area.

Came in just to grab a bite before crashing after a 11 hour flight. Ordered the kobe beef burger and it was most ordinary and slightly overcooked. Couldn't be bothered to send it out, but there's precious little pride in that kitchen. Service good enough though.

Our food was well prepared and well presented. Meat and fish were superb. Prices are high so be aware. My husband and I shared and had plenty to eat..

I ate here by myself one night in September. I arrived when it opened, and there only a couple tables being used for about the next hour, so service was very attentive, as was the maitre'd/host. My appetizer, entree, and dessert were all outstanding (although I forget what I had!). The dining room was very attractive, and the ambience/atmosphere very inviting. Perhaps if the dining room had been more crowded and noisy, I would have had a different opinion, but the whole experience was just perfect. As the title of this review says, highly recommended!

$29 for a (good) breakfast buffet. Don't get me wrong, it's a good breakfast buffet. You have your usual assortment potatoes, scrambled eggs, sausages, and bacon. It's a bit disappointing that there wasn't a better hot food selection, e.g. pancakes, waffles, perhaps an international breakfast item, etc. The fruit selection was probably the best thing about the breakfast - watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, raspberries, blackberries, yogurt, banana, and more. It also offered some smoked salmon. Drinks included OJ and some other fruit juices. I'm not a coffee and tea drinker, but I'm fairly sure coffee and tea were included. Service was very good. I partaked in the breakfast twice during my stay and it seemed like the waiter actually remembered me at my second visit. They were quick in taking away plates, asking if everything was ok, etc. The restaurant also opens at 6:30 AM on the weekdays and weekends, making it very convenient. The restaurant itself looked clean and the decor in fitting with the classical decor of the Westin St. Francis. However, it's still difficult to get over a $29 breakfast buffet considering the selection is still fairly limited and it was in no way a fancy breakfast spread. Yes, I understand the Westin St. Francis is in the heart of downtown San Francisco and that I should expected high breakfast costs. However, I believe a more reasonable price should have been $19. I wouldn't have eaten here (I wouldn't have shelled out the money myself) if I wasn't on a business trip. I didn't try the Oak Room for dinner so I cannot comment on the dinner. One tip you can employ to save money (if you stay at the Westin St. Francis) for a meal in the restaurant is to hang a door tag indicating you do not want your room made that day. Each day you avoid having your room cleaned earns you a $5 voucher. You can accumulate up three vouchers during your stay for savings of $15 - which can obviously be applied to your Oak Room restaurant bill. If you use your vouchers, then the breakfast buffet is worth it. But you'll feel as though you are robbed if you pay the full $29 amount...

Dined here one night to take advantage of a three course fixed price meal as we were staying in the hotel. Got the prime rib with seafood bisque and dessert. The service and meal were great.

We had dinner at the Oak Room recently with another couple. The Prime Rib was excellent. The scallops were good. The restaurant seemed a little pricey for what it was. We were not blown away.

The french toast is terrific as was the lox platter. Prices are a bit excessive. That being said, SFO is an expensive place to eat overall.

We love coming to the oak room for breakfast when we are in SF! They have wonderful gluten free options and can cater to your needs! The breakfast quinoa is delicious!! Henry was our server and made our experience great!

Staying at the hotel for three nights while participating in the annual convention of an academic association to which I belong, I had one light supper and one buffet in the Oak Room and the convention banquet that, I assume, came out of the same kitchen. In all three cases, the breads were not bad but were not very good, a real pity in San Francisco, where excellent breads are readily available. Produce was poorer than I can obtain in a grocery store in southeastern Pennsylvania in early November, Nothing was prepared well to be particularly appetizing. The best item at the light dinner was the French fries; they were almost as good as Macdonalds. I have eaten dozens of banquet meals, and most are mediocre. The one served us was among the poorest of any I remember. The salad was minimal, tasteless lettuce served without dressing--a waiter came by with it five minutes later, and then there was one choice: take it or leave it. I had fish, not bad but tasteless and overcooked. Asparagus with it was a few thin threads also overcooked. Something else--perhaps some pieces of small boiled tomato, also came with the entree, but it was hard to tell. Eleven people were jammed around each table that would have comfortably seated eight.

buffet breakfast with plenty variety of food, compare with the price is expensive, the waiter service is good

As a guest at the hotel, It was convenient to come here. Though a bit pricey, the selection was good and all of very fresh.

The food was delicious and the waiters were very nice. When we told them that we were think about share food, they separate the steak, soup and other dishes for us. We were truly appreciated.

We started calling San Francisco the home of the $25 breakfast, We had to change that after this one. $70 for 2 people. We each had the crab omelette, but it was no more expensive than anything else on the menu except for the Buffet at $35,Coffee was $6.00. Enjoyed it but very stuffy and the tables were so close to each other for a party of two that you could not hold a conversation without the people next to you feeling like you were talking to them! Interesting experience!

The food was really good, but the prices were steep. Granted, this is San Francisco and nothing is cheap here, but for what it served, I was a bit disappointed.

I ate here every day because the atmosphere is much more peaceful than other choices in Union square..all meals were well prepared and a little different in a good way than nearby restaurants...requests for special items were accommodated cheerfully...restaurant has limited hours

We liked the breakfast here. The service was quick enough. The staff was friendly. The place is very cool

The Westin is a bit crazy with people but the Oak Room was a nice refuge for a quiet lunch. Most people have breakfast there and there were only a handful of people dining there at lunch. The atmosphere is Old World grace and the food was quite good.

I really liked the food and we ate here twice. However, be prepared as almost everything is high(15 to 20 dollars). Pancakes, eggs, etc. The buffet is 39 which we never had but look nice. Try the egg white, cheese, and avocado tortilla wrap. Excellent and filling. Service was great with prompt and efficient service. Beautiful setting with nice comfortable chairs. If you are feeling flush then try it at least once when staying there or walking by(or hit the starbucks that are on every corner).

Food is average -- one day eggs benedict was the only egg dish. Next day they did have scrambled eggs, but not good. Best bet is to order an omelet. However, beware most of your meal will be consumed time you get the omelet. Not a big variety of items in the buffet -- pastries are the best offering. Beautiful setting and good service.

Wonderful wait staff for our late dinner. Very accommodating for us coming into dine just 45 min. before closing. Wonderful prime rib!!

This is the restaurant where breakfast is served - but that's where the similarity with other hotels ends - the quality, service, interest in you as a guest and traveler, decor, quietness, all add to this being a very unique place to dine.

We had breakfast. It tasted nice at the time although the eggs Benedict were too underdone and the breakfast lingered throughout the day. Step away from the hotel for better breakfast at half the price

I stopped into the Oak Room for a bowl of Dungeness Crab Chowder and a glass of wine. Not much on which to rate the restaurant, but the chowder was delicious, and with excellent bread and a nice glass of wine, made for quite a good, quick lunch. Excellent service, nice ambiance.

One of the best tender prime rib steaks. Also had the rich potato leek soup. For dessert had a strawberry tart. Service, ambience was very very good. Would go there again.

I really like this restaurant as it brings me back in time. I remember dining here when everybody seems to be much older than me and had to be all well-dressed. Now casual dining is acceptable everywhere. The oak panels and furniture plus red leather look so elegant. The atmosphere is relaxed despite the formal setting. Excellent breakfast place if you’re staying at the beautiful St Francis hotel. Very convenient. Marriott Ambadsador Elite gets free breakfast. Buffet has a great selection of high quality dishes. The coffee here is perfection. Great, friendly, and fast service.

I ate here twice in one day during the holiday shopping season. The breakfast was outstanding (eggs benedict). It came out hot and perfectly cooked. We had 2 kids under 4 with us and they loved the french toast and pancakes. Service was very efficient. For dinner, the steaks were cooked perfectly. The french onion soup was one of the best I have ever had. The menu is not huge, but they have good choices. Both servers were very experienced and efficient. This was the only restaurant we could get into on a Saturday night - I made reservations through Opentable.

The St Francis has been a gracious part of San Francisco for over 100 years and I enjoyed eating at the beautiful Oak Room. My friend and I went to dinner and chose their fix price 3 course dinner which included salad or soup, several entrees, cheese cake and a glass of very good wine. We picked the cheesy crab chowder (which was absolutely wonderful!), and the prime rib. Really an excellent dinner served in an elegant setting. And a pretty good bargain at $45!

While staying at Westin St. Francis, took the buffet breakfast three mornings in a row. Some variations in the warm dishes, extras were offered by staff from kitchen. Fruits ok as expected in California. Maybe wider selection of different breads would be more to european taste. Good service, ok choises of food, though not very cheap buffet.

A really nice resteraunt, lovely service and food. Very nice surroundings. This was a spontaneous visit and were not disappointed.

Staycation with my wife at the Westin St. Francis Hotel. We decided to pay the $40 per person breakfast buffet mostly for the experience of having a hopefully a memorable and wonderful meal in one of San Francisco’s most famous and elegant hotels. The restaurant looks absolutely classy and the table service was attentive but not intrusive. The food selection, quality and taste are comparable to the similar hotels’ restaurant foods we stayed in Northern California.

Great lunch, variable menu, mostly for business meetings so not crowded, very old fashioned looking but charming

If you want to spend $35 for an average breakfast, then this may be the place for you. The ceiling is impressive but the menu is pricey. Wait staff are accommodating but not particularly friendly and the service is slow. Nothing remarkable about the breakfast other than the price. There are several good diners around the corner that would be better options.

I make it a point to eat here every time I come to SF. One of the best restaurants in the world. Impeccable service, fantastic food and drink, elegant atmosphere. I have never had anything but an A+ meal here.

Try the prime rib. The service is excellent. They have a nice wine selection too. I've never seen it overly packed but I travel mid-week.

Their kobe burger was AMAZING!!!! The waitress was so sweet. Thank you to her. :) They seated us, even though we arrived at the hotel very late, and the Oak Room was almost closed.... thank you for accommodating us. If we stay at the St. Francis again, we will be back.

One of three meals was great (prime rib), one ok, (chicken) and one edible (kobe burger poorly prepared). Standard hotel resturant with standard service and pretty dark.

The décor makes this restaurant so cozy and the staff was friendly and fun and it sure didn't hurt that the food was delish!

Nice Breakfast at the St Francis Hotel We were in San Francisco in January, for a wine event - no work involved for my wife. Though we were not staying at the St Francis Hotel, we walked over to have breakfast at The Oak Room, as our hotel only had a buffet. Now, The Oak Room also has a buffet, but they do á la carte, and from previous breakfasts, I knew that breakfast would be good - and it was. It was also a minor celebration, of sorts, as I was dining with my wife. Usually, she headed out early for meetings, when we were in San Francisco, but not this time. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which were very good, with a light and tart Hollandaise Sauce, while my wife had her usual - Eggs Over Medium, and crisp Bacon. She got wheat toast (she’s just not a sourdough fan). Again, very good. Other than coffee and orange juice (for me), we had nothing else. Though I think that the buffet is the main focus of breakfast at The Oak Room, our server was very friendly, and efficient. The room is divided into two areas, with the buffet set up in the rear of one. We were seated at a nice 4-top, in the other area. The room was nice and bright, and even with the buffet being served, the noise level was low. The tables in our area were well-spaced. Well worth the walk of a few blocks from our hotel, to be able to order á la carte, in a nice setting.

Had a very good meal, but thought it was very much over priced. But I should have expected that in a very nice hotel like Saint Francis and in San Francisco. Food was excellent and staff was friendly

We had an amazing breakfast/brunch at this San Francisco classic. It's located in the Westin St. Francis on Union Square. The setting is gorgeous in the historic hotel. The restaurant is completely paneled in Oak wood. Lovely. Service was great and casual. The food was excellent. Love it. Highly recommended!

Ate at the Oak room three times. I was travelling with my daughter, who is Gluten, Garlic and Lactose Intolerant. The first time servers claimed they had no gluten free bread. After dinner talked to hotel duty manager and he assured me there was gluten free bakery items and they would be available in future. Second visit to Oak room was good as they had both gluten free bread and muffins. Third visit to Oak room was so-so as they provided gluten free bread when asked but did not have any gluten free muffins.

Went here for a business dinner. The restaurant was elegant and the wait staff very nice and attentive. The menu was somewhat limited so I chose the coby hamburger which was tasty and good.

We discovered this place in our hotel at the end of our trip and decided to try their breakfast instead of going to Starbucks up the street. Delicious! I had the crab omlettee that had jack cheese and asparagus in the omlette with the crab. I've never had such a good omlette. It also comes with hash browns and a croissant. I was very satisfied after my breakfast and would definietly eat here again. We ate at 8 AM on a Sunday which was also not busy at all. Definitely eat here once if you're staying at the hotel!

In June, we were staying at the Westin St Francis again, and had breakfast in the lovely Oak Room, just off of the main lobby of the hotel. Fortunately, my wife’s meeting was a bit later this time, so we were able to dine as a couple – always a positive thing for me. The Oak Room Restaurant is attractive, and looks a bit like three restaurants in one. Actually, it feels like that, and operates like that too. First, it is the location for a buffet breakfast, from their “Breakfast Table Buffet,” which occupies one part of the three inter-connected rooms, each with different types of seating, and each with a unique “feel.” We were not interested in the Buffet, so ordered from the menu. We were also seated in what I would typify as the “more formal” of the dining areas. I again went with the Eggs Benedict w/ two poached eggs on a toasted English muffin, Canadian bacon, sweet butter hollandaise sauce with rosemary hash brown potatoes, as I had enjoyed them on my previous visit. I did not remember the sprig of rosemary in the hash browns before, but thought that it was a nice touch. Again, the Eggs Benedict were very good. My wife chose Eggs Your Way, w/ two eggs, cooked to your liking, hickory smoked bacon (choices of pork link sausage, or grilled ham were offered), rosemary hash brown potatoes and choice of toast (wheat this time). The eggs were “over-medium,” and my wife enjoyed those. The bacon was, as per order, crisp, and were also enjoyed. Service for our table was very good, and though the rooms were pretty full, we had coffee refills, and our server checked in with us often. With the crowd, the noise level was a bit higher, than I recalled, but previously, I had dined later an the breakfast-crowd had thinned quite a bit. This morning, dining earlier, the restaurant was busier. Still, the lovely venue, and good service, plus our food, made up for a increase in the dB level. In all, an enjoyable breakfast, and for me, more so, that my wife got to join me this time. When staying at the Westin St Francis, this restaurant is convenient. If the “middle seating area” seems too formal for you, just ask to be seated in the more “bistro-like” room, to the right and rear of the entrance.

The buffet was fairly simple. The food was good but not much selection. I would give it an overall 3.5/5

I had lunch here with some business colleagues recently. The atmosphere is staid to say the least. I ordered the chowder which was nice but the size of a thimble. Someone else ordered the French onion soup and it was at least twice the size. The service was OK but not warm or friendly. Prices are high for what they are and the coffee was absolutely shocking. If this was not in a hotel, it would not survive. They must rely by scraping by on hotel trade

The burger was excellent and the turkey club was very good. Professional and thoughtful servers. Quiet, clean, very high class. Will return.

Had lunch here during a conference for work and it was very good. I decided to give the Oak Room a try because of another member's review which mentioned Dungeness crab chowder (I love Dungeness crab!), and because the hostess was so friendly whenever we walked past. The chowder was delicious and the staff was very amiable. Everything is expensive in San Francisco, so I was prepared to spend $22 for a cup of chowder and a beer.

We had lunch in the Oak Room upon arrival at the Westin St. Francis, and enjoyed our selections greatly. Fine choice of breads served with the meal, and great service with attention to detail. We both had the French a Onion soup, and being very picky out our soups, thought it was great! The only thing we would warn people to expect is that the restaurant, as well as all the restaurants we visited in San Francisco, was expensive.

When we were there on a Monday night there were four tables. I had a really strong martini. Drunk before I could finish the drink. Nice gesture but unnecessary. Crab chowder was average while lobster ravioli was good. Scallops were good but buckwheat pasta was average.

We had breakfast for 2 and with tax and tip it cost us $90 for A waffle, French toast, 2 eggs, bacon, diet coke, coffee and OJ. French toast was excellent, waffle was average and the compote served with both was soggy and nothing to write home about at these prices. The worst part is they were not that busy and they sat my husband and I at a table that was 1 inch away from another table of 2 on the left and about 6 inches from another table on the right. I was so uncomfortable. I had to get up and move. If it was valentines day I expect it, but breakfast when 1/2 the restaurant was empty??!?!? Not happy.

My fiancé and I ended up here one night on our trip to SF. We were exhausted, and it was a few blocks from our hotel. The Dungeness crab chowder was so delicious, as was the prime rib. We really enjoyed it. Really romantic setting, easy to get to in Union Square. Waiter was very nice.

The holiday decor helps it feel like the old days when you would make arrangements with friends to meet under the clock at the St. Francis.

We both had the 3 course special of prime rib (includes wine). This meal & service was as good as I've had anywhere. Delicious & good value. Wait staff was welcoming.

Excellent breakfast buffet! Delicious fresh fruit. Amazing cheese blitzes!! The staff is very friendly. Great way to start the day!

We had the breakfast buffet one morning and had dinner another night. Both were excellent. My wife had an excellent pasta and had a very nice broiled fish plate. It's relatively expensive, consistent with its location in the heart of San Francisco.

Had breakfast here whilst i was staying in the hotel. I did not eat here regularly as find that for the cost i can get better value outside hotels normally and prefer a different type of food to what is normally on offer in hotels. I did have a great eggs benedict, with fresh juice and found the food to be well presented, decent value (approx USD $30) for a hotel and fast in terms of service. I still find it strange how roles are delineated so much that one person can't take our order but can pour a drink or provide us with cutlery but i guess that is America. Can you find better value outside the hotel? Yes. Is the food here tasty and well presented? Yes. Choice is yours depending on what you are after.

Do you want something from another era? How about food created by a real chef? You'll spend a little money, but you'll enjoy the meal, and the service will be perfect. You may even have nice piano music to accompany your meal. The Oak Room is an elegant and sedate dining experience, worthy of what you'll spend. It also has a prix fixe menu that makes it a good value.

We had breakfast and totally enjoyed it. Ordered from the menu rather than going through the buffet. Our server did a great job and was pleasant and friendly. The food was excellent. The restaurant is old club style and I really appreciated the warmth of all the wood, very pretty and inviting.

Great quite restaurant with very attentive staff to help ensure you dining experience is maximized! I was able to enjoy a nice lunch with a client and speak without any concerns of noise or rude guests

We went for breakfast buffets as we always do, try different 5 stars hotel’s breakfast. The restaurant itself is very pretty, traditional European style, old fashion and very charming. However, for paying $50/person, the food and service was just okay. Not too many options for buffet comparing with the ones in Vegas, even garden court in palace hotel had more varieties. Well, anyway, one time experience is enough.

We were greeted graciously by Head Maitre'd Ms. Tran who sat us immediately. The solid wood paneling gave us a strong sense that we were back in the Splendor of The San Francisco Gold Rush Era. Our server Cesar, provided us with an extremely warm, polite, and friendly service. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is currently lives here in San Francisco or who is just visiting. I am planning to return in the bear future without question.

We stayed at the Westin St Francis when we attended the Nutcracker ballet for Christmas. As part of the room we were given two buffet breakfasts in the Oak room the following morning. That was nice because most of the time the Marriott gives us only a continental breakfast with no hot items and if you want the full buffet they charge extra. The restaurant was decorated very nicely for Christmas and the space has an intimate feel. They had a fruit station, breads and pastry station, omelette and egg bar and assorted hot items like bacon and sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes and potatoes. The quality of the food was OK just typical breakfast buffet fare. One thing to note is that they don’t serve any alcoholic beverages just orange juice and coffee. I noticed one person brought a split of sparkling wine and made his own mimosas. The staff was very friendly however it seemed that they were very under staffed as they did not have time to clear our plates. I just had to put my used dishes on an empty table that had dirty dishes already. It is a nice place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast especially during the holiday season.

Had breakfast here at the Oak Room in the St. Francis Hotel. I ordered the buffet for $40 and a blueberry smoothie. The smoothie was nothing special as I make a much better one. Buffet food was all good quality food and the food bar was clean and appeared sanitary. I ordered an omelette which took well over 30-40 minutes to get and it was average, not hot but warm. Overall good food with average service. The room was beautiful though.

Our time in San Francisco was really limited so we did try to be selective. The St Francis HAD to make it to the 'must do ' list and it did not disappoint. I had the shrimp salad which was both filling and tasty. We had a couple of glasses of crisp fizz and a delicious St Francis cheesecake to finish. All in a very enjoyable lunch in a place with much history and in the delightful Oak Room, which if walls could speak I wonder how many stories they could tell.

Extremely welcoming service, a lovely setting and great food added to a memorable meal. Salads were fresh and well-presented. Steaks were tender and cooked to order. Desserts were completely decadent! Would definitely recommend!

We had one dinner and three breakfasts in the rather elegant restaurant. The food was very good and the selection at the breakfast buffet was very good. The service for dinner was quick for our large group, and the servers were attentive to our needs. For breakfast on our first day, my wife was trying to choose between pancakes and the buffet. The server said that she could have a small stack of pancakes with the buffet which was what she got. It was excellent. When I asked for the same thing with a different server the next day, I was told that was not an option. Upon pursuing it further and having her check with the Manager, I was able to obtain this option, but they made me feel like they had done me an extreme favor in granting the request. I wouldn't have asked for it in the first place if I'd known it was going to be such an ordeal.

A group of us went to the Oak Room just before Christmas. We had a nice lunch, with great service. The atmosphere of the Oak Room is quiet and comfortable. I would go back again the next time I am in San Francisco.

The Oak Room (and they name it that for a reason) offers excellent buffet breakfasts; mine was included in the price of the hotel room. The service was great, but all the wood and no windows made it a little too dark.

We had dinner in the Oak Room and all the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. The décor was amazing. Our meal was out of this world. Our waiter explained everything on the menu and made great suggestions. He was enthusiastic about the new menu and you can tell he really enjoyed his job.

This was my first time visiting San Francisco, and since this restaurant is in our hotel, my sister-in-law and I decided to eat here our first evening. The food was delicious and the staff knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming without being too stuffy. I would eat here again.

fresh fruit, fine pastries, excellent meats.Service as fast and friendly. Excellent smoked salmon (lox). Oatmeal and yogurt for the health fanatics and great bacon for the rest of us.

The décor is a bit overwhelmingly OAK kind of dreary. But their breakfast buffet and service were excellent. Everything was delicious and fresh and an impressive variety. Our server was also very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast for 2 people came to $72

We enjoyed our night at The Oak Room. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic. The food was good, but for the location and price it needed to be great. We got the French onion soup, and asked for it well-done. When it arrived, their was no bubbly charred cheese on top; it had apparently sank to the bottom. The taste was good, but a bit of a let down. My wife got the cracked mustard crusted pork chop. It tasted good, but there was little taste of mustard and no "crust". I got the green tea lacquered salmon. The fish was well cooked, but the sauce was way too sweet, which was a surprise since no sweet ingredients were mentioned. At any other place, I would have given another star, but the location and price warrant a better meal.

Reasonably priced, good variety for every meal and good service. It almost feels like you eating at home.

My colleague and I had both breakfast and a lunch meeting at the Oak Room. The decore could use an update but the staff and service were attentive and very helpful. The food was properly prepared, presented well and delicious.

Great options for everyone! Adult menu was good and wine list was extensive. Lots of choices for kids on the kid's menu too!

Stayed in the Westin for a week and ate here daily for breakfast. Great breakfast with wide selection of fruits, meats, oatmeal, cereals, pastries, eggs and even an Asian flair with steamed pork buns and vegetarian dumplings. Also has some glutten free pastries!

This bar is part of The Westin hotel with great décor and nice to relax in. The staff were very friendly and chatty while making impressive but expensive cocktails.

Offers a pretty interesting breakfast menu with some unique twists on classics -- and a buffet that is pretty vast. It was crowded. Good quick and yummy breakfast for the business traveler.

I like tradition and therefore I like The Oak Room. As the name implies, it is paneled in oak and reminds me of my youth. We had lunch here last week and were very pleased with the food and the service. I had a burger which was delicious and my wife had a terrific chopped salad. The service is outstanding. Love this place and recommend The Oak Room if you are in the area.

a la carte is very good for breakfast but they have a huge breakfast bar. lunch menu is very diverse and all selections are prepared well. if you ask for medium on the meat it will be more like medium rare

The food is terrible. My husband ate the chowder and became ill after finding some strange thing in it. They serve store bought Bacon-Bits. Really can't find time to cook real bacon and chop it up??? The burger is nasty - how can one mess up a burger? I don't know but they should find a new vendor of their pre-made burger patties. (Not to mention that the food was cold when served). The service is non-existent. I had to ask several times for water - to never receive it. I finally got up and served it to my table.

Where do I start. A party of 5 with reservations at 7:45 pm. We arrive at 7:40... Seated at 7:50. Not a big deal. Once seated we were not even offered water till 8:00 pm. We brought our own wine. We were reminded of corkage fee... No big deal at $25.00. Ordered at 8:15 and food came in good cadence. Though we did have to ask for water several times. Food quality? Over cooked salmon and prime rib. Main course was finished at 9:15 ... Plates cleared at 9:40. Desert ordered at 9:50... Arrives at 10:15.( espresso never showed till we asked for it again at 10:30... $ 400.00 later we are out the door. I spoke to manager and was told,,, we were over booked.

We stayed at the Westin ST Francis and dined at the Oak Room. The decor was warm and inviting and the hostess greeted us in a friendly manner. Our wait person's name was Nicholas and he was excellent. We dined from the "lighter fare" menu (which I can't find anywhere on the web). We started with a watermelon appetizer which was appealing and pleasing to the eye and the palate.Next were the beet and Mixed Sonoma Greens salads. The beet salad was excellent and mixed greens was good. The entrees were scallops (which were not as well prepared as scallops on the east coast) and a pasta dish which was "average". Overall, the service was excellent. The appetizer and salad were delicious and the entrees were palatable as they were edible and pleasant. We did not order from the dessert menu.

I have eaten twice in this hotel this week. I wouldn't recommend it. The food is ok, if you are really hungry and can't face going elsewhere. I had a light bite here for dinner and it was not something I would want again. And it is very overpriced - I had a breakfast here of an omelette, 2x orange juice and a coffee and the bill was $46 . I didn't ask for a juice refill but was charged $13 for it. The food was ok but nothing better than a roadside diner. The service is patchy and I left the second time knowing that I would never be back. There are lots of other bad restaurants around this hotel where you can be shaken down for your money less painfully. Hotel restaurants are usually not great, but this one is sad, shabby and far too expensive. Avoid.

breakfast twice while we stayed at the hotel was a great experience with quality food well prepared, great setting, and prompt service.

I was staying at the Westin St. Francis and told one of colleagues to meet me in the Oak Room for breakfast. I had eggs, with sausage and coffee and my friend had a breakfast wrap with coffee and oj. It cost me $77 for two people at breakfast..absolute insanity! The service was very good but could never ever justify eating there again.

This place is great! We are on like the top floor and have a great view of Union Square. Staff is very friendly and helpful! Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby!

Had the breakfast buffet. Was ok. A bit Fawlty Towers like with waiters everywhere but no one really doing much.

Food wasn't very creative. We went for SF restaurant week, which is suppose to be a chance for the place to show off and get new customers. This place did not do either of those things. The staff was great, portions were very small, and they added a $6 coffee. Not that great coffee. We were then told that the menu had changed and didn't include dessert as stated on the website. Really? Didn't impress me and the place was not busy. Too many other options.

The food here is amazing and there are some vegetarian options. However the menu is a little small compared to other hotels.

The restaurant is in the basement, so there's no windows, which makes it feel a little claustrophobic. We had worse service than a Mcdonalds, with the most socially awkward man who we rarely even saw and forgot half the food we ordered, he didn't even bring ours out together! Even McDonalds knows not to give you your meal until they have everything ready. And then there was that awkward moment when the manager yelled at him in the middle of the restaurant. Classy. But seriously who does that? Especially in a 4 star hotel! But the food was pretty good, so at least there's that.

We were originally looking to have dinner at Morton's the steakhouse but there was going to be quite a wait. They redirected us across the street to the Westin and their steakhouse. we inadvertently went to the Oak Room instead of the steakhouse which turned out to be a pleasant surprise as we would not have afforded the steak house anyways. Service was good. It slowly starting to fill up as we were there but never got very full. The place was nice and quiet. Both meals were very, very good. My wife had steak which was nice and tasty and I had chicken which also came very flavorful. I actually preferred chicken or steak that night.

Nice quiet restaurant offering healthy options and smoothies. They offered a full breakfast buffet for $36 with made to order omelets, fresh fruit, breads, pastries and more. We wanted a lighter meal, so we ordered off the menu, which was delicious.

Steeped in atmosphere this was the perfect spot for lunch before we sailed out of San Fransisco but the day we were there the place was horribly understaffed ( basically 2 servers covered the restaurant); it took a long (10 minutes) for water and bread but things took a turn for the better after that. The Oak Room trio had the most delightful prosciutto and fig sandwich and a super chowder but with wine etc was close to $100.00

Stayed at the Westin last year and ate here on our last evening........just amazing. Staff were attentive and friendly, helpful when choosing wine! Four of us all had three courses each and we could not fault anything. My brother-in-law had the prime rib steak and raved about it for days!! "Best ever" he kept telling us! We all thoroughly enjoyed each course. Would highly recommend eating here. Enjoy!

We often eat there. Never had a bad meal, never had remotely inferior service. Menu is good as most and quality of food is good. We go there every time we are in SFO......so.....quiet, low key, is what you are looking for this is it.

There is both a hot ($30) and cold ($25) buffet available or a la carte ordering. First class but you get what you pay for.

We were staying at the Westin St. Francis and decided to have Christmas dinner at The Oak Room. We were seated about 20 minutes late, but I guess that is fine for Christmas eve. They had a 3 course Christmas dinner which we had. The entrees were good, and the steaks my 2 sons and I had were fine, but the pork chops my wife was very dry and overcooked.

We had the buffet breakfast at the Oak Room on Sunday. What a disappointment. Hardly better than a free Hampton Inn breakfast. It was expensive and the selections were extremely limited. Coffee and juice were included.

We had dinner here because we were staying at the St Francis Hotel but the food and service as well as the reasonable prices mean this should be on the list when you are in San Francisco anyway. The crab chowder was great, the scallops were superb on a bed of awesome polenta, matched by with a great Chardonnay, I will be back.

We ended going to The Oak Room because Morton's across the street was too crowded. We didn't expect this restaurant to be completely empty. We were the only patrons there that night. It is nicely decorated. It has a good selection of drinks.

My expectations from this restaurant after having a room in the hotel was high, first i visited for breakfast it was in a single word bad. The tastes are bad, the service was terrible, the ordered things like omlettes arrived wrong. Then we tried for a dinner, (we thought that breakfast was bad coincidence lets try) but thie time we left before finishing our main food. Never again.

The breakfast buffet was outrageously expensive. We ordered off the menu. That was the only meal we ate at the hotel.

My family and I dined at the Oak Room while were staying at the Westin San Francis San Francisco. The restaurant was very classic with dim, dark colored wooden furnishings and comfortable chairs. Both the hostesses and waitress were very courteous and efficient. We had a casual dinner which consisted of some soup and salad for the appetizers, and pastas and streaks for the main course. Overall, we found the food to be well-prepared and delicious. I would recommend dining here if you are staying at the Westin.

After a trip across country and staying at the Westin, we decided to try the Oak Room on our first night in San Francisco mainly because of its location in the hotel. We had trouble reaching the restaurant to make a reservation from our room and they simply ask for us to leave a message. I then went on Open Table and was able to find a time (not quite perfect) for 2 persons. Upon arriving I was surprised that there was one large table that was obviously planning a wedding reception as you heard their discussion throughout the restaurant. (I didn’t know if we were to contribute our thoughts or not!) There were two small table with 2 guests and 3 guests each. The restaurant was completely empty for the most part. I wondered why a reservation could not be accommodated at a different time. Well, towards the end of our meal several other tables did show up, however the entire rear portion of the restaurant was NEVER used. There seemed to be only one waiter and a cook that would come out at some point to deliver the courses (to the wrong people) and forget to replace silver after it had been taken away. So to sum it up food mediocre, service lacking, atmosphere stuffy, decor needs work (The tables are placed so close together it was a maize getting out to the front entrance which was blocked by some sort of planter). Our entrees were the Scallops and Prime Rib which were fine, nothing to rave about though. Skip this restaurant.

Have only had breakfast here and we chose the buffet as it offered everything we were looking for - eggs, many juices (including a green drink), smoked salmon, meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, a nice variety of breads, and much more. I was craving a bagel and there were not any in the breakfast buffet so I inquired with our waiter who immediately offered me a variety of bagel options and even toasted it for me. Overall, a very good way to start the day.

We hadn't made reservations last week on a Saturday night! We lucked into finding the Oak Room. Wasn't crowded and had a great Prix Fixe deal - choice on appetizer, entrée with dessert and a glass of wine for $49! Best deal in the city! The food and service were top notch. Highly recommend!

The restaurant was cozy, beautiful and inviting. The food was excellent and the staff made me feel welcomed and comfortable.

On a girls getaway, we met for dinner with our daughters that live in the city. We did not have reservations, but we were seated anyway. It was quiet, but not stuffy. There was soft classical music playing but you could still carry a conversation. The service was impeccable and the food fantastic. Expect nothing less at the Westin; they deliver every time! I had the scallops which were cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the salmon. Again, perfect! Great place for a special event.

Food and service was pretty much as expected for its location in such a good hotel. Very good but nothing overly special or unique.

Loved the fresh fruit; disliked the lukewarm oatmeal and warm yogurt. Wonderful fresh fruit juices. Slightly too much attention from the waiters - I'd be asked 3 or 4 times if I wanted juice/coffee and it got to be a bit much.

Had breakfast there. The breakfast buffet is $38.00 and the selection isn't really anything special. Not worth the value. There are plenty of other options around Union Square. Service was OK....they forgot to serve me some items. My husbands food got cold while we waited for mine.

Have visited this Bar a few times when staying in the hotel. Great service. Friendly bartenders. Love the choice of cocktails.

It was quite expensive, $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Service was poor. The food selection for the breakfast buffet was very limited.

$40 breakfast buffet was hard to swallow. Great environment and good service. Value...not so much!!!

There was a long wait to be seated even though the dining room was mostly empty late on a Sunday morning. Likewise a considerable wait for my order to be taken. The buffet was adequate but not fantastic given the price and the fact that items were not being replenished. Overall, the setting was warm and comfortable and the personnel friendly but service and food could have been better.
Great for a Group Together
There are two restaurants at the Saint Francis with a very differen vibe in each. The Oak Rooom is more of a group get together, after work, cocktails leading to dinner. A bit more lively witrh excellent food and service.
