The Old Monk is one of the founding establishments of the Knox Henderson area of Dallas, and still has not lost it's cool. A great place for a crafted brew and a tasty bite in a setting that is a pretty good copy of an Irish pub. Sit inside or out on the patio and watch the street come alive in the evening, you won't regret it. Down the street there's plenty going on, but the Old Monk is where you want to begin.

I have been many time over the last 10 years and the food, beer list and atmosphere is still excellent. My favorites are the French dip and the mussels along with a Hefeweizen. On this last visit, everything was perfect including the place being full of fun patrons. Not many better bars in Dallas!

When you need a place to suit an eclectic group - this is a good bet. Whether you are looking for a place to hang with beer drinking friends, wine drinkers, people who want to be in a trendy area, people who want the wooden feel of a pub, friends who want to sit outdoors, smoking friends who need a little outdoor area, friends who want to flirt around, or even friends who want to just chill in a booth and avoid all the hoopla that usual "going out" places tend to bring.

This us our go to place to grab a couple of beers after work. The waitresses are always on top of things and never let our drinks reach empty. The food is great and they also have a few great, non-fried vegetarian selections, which is kind of hard to find in a bar. Love this place!

I went here with a group of friends for brunch and we had a really good time. The price for mimosa carafes is pretty good and all of our food was excellent. We got amazing service at the bar. After we sat on the patio, my friend and I were ignored for awhile until the rest of our group showed up. After that, everything was fine. I would definitely return.

The Old Monk is one of the best pubs in Dallas. They have a great patio, half of which, can be fully enclosed so it is used year round. The inside is dark and has a traditional pub atmosphere. The beer selection is great and food is good, I recommend the "Bruder Basil Burger". Parking can be VERY frustrating at times and because of it's popularity during peak times it is not uncommon to have absolutely no available seating. If you are looking for a place that has a great beer selection, good food, and a friendly atmosphere to share with friends then this is a good choice.

I have been here a couple of times, both for a night out and for a casual Sunday lunch. Both times the staff was very helpful, and I loved my drinks. Great atmosphere!

You can have draft beer from all over the world, excellent fish and chips! Good attention. It has the alternative to get a table outdoor, hard to find in dallas.

In April I stayed in Dallas, Texas with my grandaughter Chantelle, and family. We went for the best fish I've had for ages at the Old Monk. We sampled the Chouffe ale from Belguim, another real treat. The staff were very attentive, and it is an interesting restaurant with outdoor seating. We then went on to Chase the Bulls in a nearby Park, where they have lifesized bulls charging through the park and over the creek, with a whipcracking herder on his horse. We took many photos, and even one of us both near to a huge bronze bull. You just have to go see.

Awesome selection of beers, and the light fare is tasty. According to the local we were with, this place has been around for a long time (he went on the first date with his wife here). The outside patio is a great place to hang out, talk, and drink.

This bar (which also has an extensive food menu), is known for its extensive list of imported beer. I don't know how many exactly but it has to be several dozen. There is also a more limited selection of draft beers, and I always get Guinness. The bar has great atmosphere and character. There is outside seating for when the weather is nice. Have not eaten here so can't vouch for the food, but it looks really good. There is also Saturday and Sunday brunch. One of my favorite bars in Dallas.

Or so it seems - if you're thirsty this is the place. I must say I love their cheese boards - the best I've seen. You order 3 items and think that's all you're getting until it show up - the presentation and extras are delightful.

You could stay and drink all day with this beer list, and do it in one of the most classic Dallas bars. We love the patio, of course, and the service is great too. Enjoy!

A great place in Dallas to enjoy a proper authentic European type pub atmosphere. Food was good, particularly the chilli cheese fries, and the beer selection absolutely superb. Tasted Franconia for the first time and now desperately trying to hunt it down in the UK!

This is a really neat place. Great ambiance. The outside patio is always jammed (radiant heaters in the winter make it worth it). Great craft beer selection. Great Scotch choices. Good wine offerings. Full bar for the rest of you. The food is good, too. I had a great classic Reuben unexpectedly served with some nice spicy brown mustard. Definitely worth a return visit.

Went to The Old Monk last night with family from out of town. I've wanted to try the place out for some time and I'm glad I finally did. The food was good especially the chicken and Avocado sandwich, with fries but they do offer more healthier sides. They have a good selection of beers on tap but being National Margarita Day, I had several to celebrate. What made the visit memorable was our waitress Brynna. She may be the shortest waitress but she can hustle. We never were without drinks or water all night. She is extremely personable and witty. It doesn't hurt that she's the cutest one on the staff which was an added bonus to a very good night. Look to be in her section and you can't go wrong. We can't wait to return as soon as we can.

I’ve been here a few times for what really is the best fish and chips in town. They serve it correctly with vinegar and some amazing homemade tartar sauce with capers. The fries are thick cut and the batter on the fish is just right. Portions very generous! Huge and interesting beer selection from around the world. We tried some happy hour cocktails that hot the spot on the patio.

Great place to get a beer

I look at this on line was within walking distance, love the place, kinda made you want to pull up a chair at the bar and stay awhile, we had the fried mushroom, fish and chips, goat cheese salad, they were all very good, service was good. Just loved the place, and I got yo try a Texas beer been on my list of things to do.

The selection of beer was good including local breweries. Loved the blood orange margaritas. Had two different appetizers, both excellent. Sausage platter, very good. Had the same chicken salad two nights in a row.

Used this bar a few times when staying at the La Quinta just down the road from this bar. Decent range of beers and good food, Pretty young crowd - always busy and noisy but just what was needed after a day on the tourist trail.

My Go-To place to grab a drink with buddies! The Waitstaff is always on top of refills, orders, and service, no matter how busy they are. The food at the Old Monk is also top notch! I love the German Plate and the French Dip Sandwich. Prices are also very reasonable for being in such a hot and popular location!

decent food - good beer selection

Visited The Old Monk on a recent Sunday for lunch. I really enjoyed the visit as did the other 3 in our party. Good menu selection. The chicken salad ordered, and the chicken sandwich were large and plentiful. The breakfast tacos were well liked also. Drinks reasonable. I would definitely go back if in the area. My olny suggestion? Turn the music down a bit.

Nice place we just sat on the patio about 10 on Sunday night had a blood and honey on tap and an Italian I think it was a vodka with fresh grapefruit squeezed very good not too sweet. In walking distance of a few bars that all looked to have a decent crowd.

Been here a few times now and the food is fantastic, the beer selection also fantastic and the service always friendly. In nice weather you can sit outside. Inside it's cozy on colder days. Great for groups but also for couples.

I moved from Dallas almost two years ago. The Old Monk is always on my list when I come back for a weekend. Its not a place to go for a nice dinner or anything. But they have a really great patio and yummy food and drinks. I always order the goat cheese salad. Its a mixed greens salad, with tomatos, carrots, olives, and pickled. Top it all off with three toasted pieces of baguette with tons of gooey melted goat cheese. So yummy! We usually grab lunch here on Saturday after shopping and have a few drinks and food. You will love it!

My husband and I really wanted to visit this establishment on our anniversary weekend. With it being less than a block from our hotel it seemed perfect to have dinner and drinks. Once we got there we saw the seat yourself sign, so we attempted to find a table, either inside or out. We even tried the bar with no avail. I noticed that even as we were trying find a table, not one employee came up to us and asked if they could help. Like I mentioned above, we would have loved to have tried it, but couldn’t find an open table to give them my business. Hope to change this one day.

I love coming here for brunch! The liter of mimosa are 11 dollars and the food is good! I have it 4 instead of five due to service is typically slow and the food is good not great.

Lived in Dallas for ten years within a mile of this place and never stopped by. Guess I was put off by the tight neighborhood parking surrounding this venerable bar, which is situated a block from a busy freeway. I should have visited long before now, because our visit last weekend was great. Many, many beers on tap and in the bottle, from all over the world. Found the best German beer I have ever had in Dallas on tap, one of the permanent wheats. Lots of other appealing beers rotate through regularly, so if you're always on the lookout for new tastes, this place is a natural. Great atmosphere, very Europe-clubby, and very attentive staff. We had the sausage & cheese appetizer and it was delightful. Patio seating for all seasons as well. Go, and enjoy.

I called into this place because it looked "Traditional" it was a Saturday afternoon so was busy but the service was good and the food was good considering just how busy they were. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.

Great place to have a drink and get a bite to eat. Over 50 kinds of beer and good selection of whiskeys. The food is outstanding. Best Fish and Chips in Dallas. No Gluten free bread options for burgers. Need to make that available. Everybody in our party enjoyed their meal. Small children allowed until 7 PM.

the place looks good and has some good French classics

A must on our Dallas food and drink list, especiaaly on cold rainy days...old monk is a pub. Dont expect fancy anything. Terrific beer on tap, good pub food, watch sports and enjoy being in this dark cocoon of hipness. Very easy to find...parking can be a problem, but no problem!

In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in all of Dallas! The food is spectacular - everything on the table is delicious, even the soda syrup is perfect! haha! It's always busy , and parking is terrible - don't use their lot, park elsewhere - but if you go in the early afternoon it's perfect!

The Old Monk has a fun vibe and an eclectic crowd. Based upon the reviews we were eager to give it a whirl. We found the bartenders to be a bit rude and lackluster in the service department. We tried the French Onion soup and were disappointed. Service was slow but the drinks were good.

This was our first time to visit The Old Monk. The great thing about this place is the Atmosphere. Inside is not huge but it's very comfy and dark. I loved this place actually. It's the kind of place you want to come to on a cool winter night and just hang out with some friends and enjoy the surroundings. If I had to say anything negative about the place it would be the parking. My wife and I got very lucky to find a parking spot almost right in front and this was only because someone was leaving. If we would have had to drive around looking for a place to park I more than likely would not have been so generous when writing this review. The other negative thing would simply be the fact this place is a Dallas Yuppie hang out. You know the place. The sort of place where young individuals hang out and think they are jr Rockefeller's. Don't get me wrong I am not an older person I'm simply not 25 acting like I'm 15. The service was great. The beers were not as large as I would have liked but they were good. Try the Deep Ellum IPA and for a harder drink try the Molly Mule. Both were in my opinion AWESOME!!! Like I said I loved the place. Prices were average for Dallas. If I lived a little closer to the place I would make it my hangout. We live in The Colony. we left at 6:00 on a Friday eve and it took us an hour to get to The old Monk in North Dallas. Bottom Line..... GO HERE You will LOVE it!

I met a couple of friends at The Old Monk last month. It was my first visit there. They have an impressive selection of beers, including shout-outs to a couple of local breweries, which is always nice to see. They have a huge whiskey menu, so if whiskey is your thing, this is a place you should visit. Our server was wonderful and genuinely wanted us to have a good time. She happily offered informative descriptions and small tastes of several different beers. I ordered a very tasty local beer called Velvet Hammer, and I followed up with a Smithwick's, another beer I had never had before. The atmosphere at Old Monk is fun and chill. We sat out in the semi-enclosed patio area, and it was very nice. No immature behavior, no drama from our fellow patrons. I love that in a bar. We had originally intended to have drinks here and then move on to a dinner spot, but the experience was so nice and the service so excellent, we decided to stay and have dinner. I had the Pistachio Fried Chicken, which is exceptional bar food. I will go back to Old Monk.

Closed?! What?

We live in Dallas and frequent The Old Monk on a weekly basis. It has a very laid back atmosphere for old and young alike. Most days it is filled with professionals who go there to wind down after work. The greatest attraction for my significant other is the beer selection. That seems to be something lacking in most restaurants these days which really surprises us given the popularity of craft beer these days. The menu is casual and could be improved upon. They have been know for their exemplary mussels for years, but to be honest the quality has dropped off significantly and we've had to move to other menu items. Such a shame. They should allow dogs on the porch as so many of their customers live in the area and walk their dogs after work.

We were in town visiting one of the kiddos who is over at SMU. As she doesn’t have a vehicle, we wanted to try somewhere that was accessible, yet not too far from campus. I’m glad we tried The Old Monk. It has wonderful indoor or outdoor seating. Food was good; on par with what would be expected for a pub. Tried a variety of options (sandwiches, burgers and a cheeseboard). All was yummy.

great beers great bar... fun crowd great patio... great cheese plate... it is one of my all time favorite hang outs.

The Old Monk is near young, fun neighborhoods in Dallas. Great beer selections, wonderful fish and chips and a super patio setting when the weather is good. Service can vary, and does, but it doesn't matter. When there with family or friends it's just a great place to relax and enjoy. Even if your party is a bit loud, it doesn't matter--in that sense it may be closer to a pub than a restaurant.

If you're looking for places where the locals hang out to drink good beer, enjoy the large patio - you've found your place. The food is very good pub food - a fantastic ruben, authentic german sausage plates and the best veggie burger in Dallas! The waitstaff is typically very attentive. Overall a very good, relaxed place to enjoy a Saturday night!

If you are a beer drinker, great selection. Good bar food selection, highly recommend getting a nice cheese platter to share with a group.

I go there regularly for the fish and chips. no way I can finish the huge order. top shelf. also the weekend brunch has an awesome bangers and eggs w/ potatoes. GREAT!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Old Monk! I've been coming here for over 10years. This is a staple spot that I have to visit at least once when i come back to Dallas (my home). The drinks and food have always been consistently good and still holds true to this day. I recently came into town and decided to stop by my old stomping ground and as usual, wonderful!! If you are looking for quality pub food and excellent drinks (esp wide range of beers) you need to give The Old Monk a try. Atmosphere is also super cool. If you have kids it's very kid friendly for lunch. At night it's def more adult friendly. Either way. great food, great drinks, and very fun spot to check out in Dallas.

Came to visit family for a week, they decided to show us this cozy little place on our first night. Needless to say we will be stopping by again before we leave. Fish and chips are a must. Fantastic beer selection.

Great place for brunch. Food is really good and the prices are even better. Max is a awesome bartender!

Good pint of Guinness went well with the fish and chips , fish was really good and light batter and I enjoyed the thick chips , from an ex Brit shame it doesn’t come with mushy peas . Mussels are also a good choice . I’ll be back to try the brunch

The food is pretty good, especially for bar food. Service can be a bit slow. But, located in a fun part of town.

Great beer selection. Loved the atmosphere of this place. The brick building is old-looking, and inside it is cozy and dark, while outside on nice days it is bright and fun. In addition this bar is in a fun part of town (Knox-Henderson), and there are many other dinner and drink options to try nearby. The service was good and servers were friendly. Only ate the cheese fries and those were great! Parking lot is small and this place is popular so arrive early. We will definitely be back.

Love this place. I usually take any out-of-town guests here for a drink and one of their cheese boards. They have a good selection of whisky, as well as ciders. You and your friends can sit in one of three areas: inside, outside with partial cover, or on an uncovered patio. In an upscale part of town without being too over the top.

Great place to grab a beer with friends

The staff was really on top of things, the decor was cool, lots of drinks to chose from. My only disappointment was the music. When you go to an Irish pub you don't want or expect the newest mixes, I can get those on the radio!!

A very lively pub with tasty fish and chips and plenty of beer on tap to chose a pint. They could go five green dots if they could only prove that they can pour my favorite pint. A Black and Tan.

Stopped in for a quick lunch with the wife while visiting our daughter in Dallas, had a great cheese plate for a appetizer and then had the fish and chips and both were great, definitely would eat here again!

This place had a great assortment of superb beers. The food was good. The atmosphere was friendly. But don't go if you like breathing fresh air. The flow through ventilation from the outdoor smoking areas renders the entire place smoke-filled.

This is a great place to eat and drink. The outside patio is a fun area, closed in with cold weather and with heaters. Food and service was perfect, our server came around continually to check on us. Great selection of beers too!

This could be the best fish and chips in town. But that isn't all there is here. This is a great pup, nothing fancy, just what you want a pub to be. Good selections of beer and spirits and friendly people that want to make you come back. This has it all. Pretty wide range of scotch and beers, and overall i think pretty reasonable. I forget just how good the food is here. Comes to you quickly, prepared perfectly, and always fresh tasting. Healthy portion for a again, a reasonable price. If you have these fish and chips, you will compare everything you eat to them in the future. Plus its a great bar to be in, with some regular folks to visit with. One thing, i REALLY wish I could enjoy the patio...its the only place that allows smoking, not that being inside is so bad.

Like taking a trip across the pond, this place is like stepping into an old European pub! While beer list is impressive, the food menu is amazing! Famous for fish and chips and great burgers, be sure to try the pistachio crusted chicken and also the Welsh rarebit !!! Above all, enjoy the fabulous service and staff! Best darn wait staff and bartenders in Texas!!! They will spoil you for going anywhere else!!

Nice location with limited tight parking especially after work and weekends. Has exotic beers from Texas and the standard ones. Usually a special with beer and wine and/ or cocktails.Menu has some German type meals along with hamburgers. I was immediately drawn to a burger with everything on it you could think of. They will work with you to customize the burger if you ask. Can be loud and crowded. Has a great patio that is somewhat hidden for the street and freeway. It has a "old world charm" in the atmosphere as well as the building itself. Stone outside with cafe tables making it a fun place to drink and meet friends after work or on weekends.

Great place to hang out with friends and drink! Only gave a 4 star because when we ordered food, the order got misplaced and we had to wait awhile. However due to this mishap, the manager took off some of the food and the first round of drinks.

I've been here several times for happy hour and really like the place. It has an excellent selection of uncommon beers. The atmosphere is European. The main downside is that by 6pm it gets really crowded and parking is quite limited. Plus, it is hard to get out of the parking lot during rush hour as restaurant sits at on weird configuration of three roads.

The staff was either understaffed or undermotivated.Service was S-L-O-W even though we were inside by the bar early in the evening. The food was good when it finally arrived. We had to tackle the server to get more silverware and finally the check.

This pub was close to the hotel we stayed in. We came around 3 pm and ended up staying until midnight. They have a great beer and spirits list and also served good food. Service was nice and friendly.

A beer menu that matches tom thumbs beer section gets the best tap room vote? The bar is very cool, service is very good and good is on par with a gastro pub. We started with mussles which I can say were outstanding, followed it with a cheese board which was nicely put together and a order of the fish n chips. Voted best in Dallas but were soggy and heavy breaded fish itself was good once we pulled half the breading. Overall it was very good bar with a great patio area. Lacks heavily in the beer selection for anything not main stream Belgium companies.

This place has a large selection of Belgian Beer. Some of the draught beer from Belgium I have only seen in bottles, until The Old Monk. We had dinner and the food was excellent! I had a Stilton Burger, my Buddy had the Fish & Chips and the wife enjoyed a German Plate with wurst and potato salad. They have their own parking lot in the back, so you don't have to look for parking on the street. They have two outdoor areas that allow smoking. Good location, Good Beer and Good food...

Met a friend for the first time at The Old Monk. It was easy to find and the noise level was low which made talking to someone easy. The Monk Burger is probably the best burger I have ever had anywhere in the world. They have a good variety of beer to help wash it down as well. The staff was friendly and had great attitude. Will go back for sure.

I went with a friend for drinks. They have a large selection of artesian cheeses and I made up a cheese board we had tis with drinks. I love this. Decent selection of craft beers, Irish Whisky and Scotch. Outside seating as well.

My usual reason to go to the Old Monk is for the fish and chips(in the old english style) and for the extensive selection of scotches and beers.

A local gem in the Knox-Henderson area. Staff you can easily befriend, an extensive selection of whiskey and beer, high-quality pub fare (the fish and chips and the club sandwich are killer!), a large outdoor smoking area, a lively crowd on the weekends, and a large private parking lot. The Monk is a unique spot, with a couple of small tv's for sports watchers and loud music, particularly on weekend nights, but apart from that, it's a conversation-friendly pub, with little else to entertain guests. Bring friends and let the good times roll!

Beer selection is decent. The food smelled good and looked appealing, but I have not tried it yet.

My husband, a Belgian, feels right at home here. They usually have a mix of Belgian and British/Irish pub fare and a WIDE selection of beers. My husband always gets the Mussels and Fries and one of their Belgian Beers. The atmosphere is cozy European Bar, with dark wood and stone and a nice patio outside for relaxing. Great for after a Mavs or Stars game, I highly recommend!

Found this place shortly after moving to Dallas and missing our Boston patio restaurant seating on Boylston Street. This is a great pub with good solid food and wide range beer list. Outdoor patio is great (other than uncomfortable hard wooden stools but meh!). Anytime we have gone we have not been unhappy with service or our food/drinks. Recommend a stop here or making this your local. We've done just drinks, snacks, late night and lunch and always pleased. Great mussels!

We spent a leisurely Sunday afternoon eating and drinking with friends. The service was good and the drinks well made.

Great Bar Food. You can actually find a lot of stuff that isnt fried on the menu. Very cool staff.

Again you make this place what you are in the mood for; chillin, or entertaining.staff are attentive and can suggest off the menu anything your heart desires; beer, wine and food; enjoy....

Stopped in at night, the place was pretty crowded but the bartenders were attentive to everyone who came up to the bar. Was able to order and get my drink quickly, even received a few recommendations based on the styles I like.

Great place to grab a beer & hang with friends! Their cheese boards are pretty amazing too. Great selection, friendly staff… highly recommend.

Not the greatest place to have a beer, but they do have some interesting brews that no one else has.

We were on the way to downtown Dallas and was looking for a different place to eat and stumbled upon this restaurant. The atmosphere here is slightly European with loud music. The menu features German food and an assortment of other food such as burgers. Service was excellent.

After a long travel day, stopped here for some drinks and a bite to eat. My daughter knew exactly what to get. Cheese Fries, Pistachio Fried Chicken, a cheese & salami board, silver dollar burgers and a Reuben sandwich. Good drinks and service on the outdoor deck made it a wonderful evening.

I love this place, my favorite neighborhood haunt. But they have a card-skimming racket of note! The owners must address this criminality, but in the meantime you can protect yourself by never letting the server take your card. Insist on a point-of-sale device or follow your server to the register and watch the transaction.

This is a very nice place to take your guests. The building reminds me of State Street, WI. Very nice atmosphere, good food, and knowledgeable wait staff. Parking is a bit crowded but not too bad. If you like beer, this place is a great Dallas exclusive to visit.

Good menu. Inside and out seatIng. Good for Happy Hour, lunch, drinks, sports watching and more. Enjoy!

Good menu. Outside patio a plus for people watching and more. Plus a Covered outdoor patio is nice also. Smoking a bit of an annoyance as it is allowed. A few TVs for sports watching. All in all worth a repeat visit especially on days for outside seating.

Great place to drink beer and have some hearty beer food. Great place for a casual date.

This is a good replica of European pubs with a great selection of brews and food. I've enjoyed every visit. The fish and chips are awesome.

I visited Old Monk tonight with 2 of my girlfriends. We were seated and waited 30 minutes for water. When the waitress brought it, she said "Give me a few minutes." and then she took orders from several tables that were seated after us. After 10 minutes of watching that we left. Won't ever return.

Wonderful beer list and attentive staff. The mussells steamed in white ale with pommes frite and aioli were wonderful.

I came in with friends for an Oktoberfest event in which they tap a 200 year old keg from local brewery Franconia. You can tell the bar has been here for a good while but has a great Irish pub atmosphere. There is not a lot of area inside but they have a huge patio area which is where you want to sit. Server was right on our needs all night with water and beer request. We had an order of calamari to start that was inexpensive and plentiful. They have a great beer selection from around the world as well as locally. I had the fish and chips that was cooked well with plenty of fries and fish. A couple of others had the meat and cheese tray that was plentiful. We really enjoyed the keg tapping and the ceramic mug that cam with each serving. All in all this place has great atmosphere and good food at reasonable prices.

ok, i'm not too familiar w/ dallas but on the advice of friends i sought out the old monk. what a total trip this place is. lots of good beers (they specialise in belgian) and a really good food menu. i luckily ate some of the best bread pudding i've ever had before getting hammered on about 6 paulaner salvators. in one online review, i read that this is a hangout for puppeteers and that they have a tequila special for totally crazy people on the happy hours. i can't say anything about the tequila, but the puppetry influence was way heavy. also i sat next to a few of the regulars at the bar who were contemplating a hog slaughter in the parking lot. wierd. all in all, i loved the place. moreso than the city i would have to say. hip hip hooray old monk!

Best fish n'chips!!

The drinks were good with a lot of options. The dinner menu was delicious and while I hear the burgers are very good, everybody raved about the Mussels which stood up to their reputation. I will have to return for the burgers next time. I liked the fact that they had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (outdoor seating is both covered and not covered). And the outdoor seating had mist fans for those especially hot days/evenings. Parking is a bit of an issue if the place is crowded, just remember to not park on the neighborhood streets unless you want to get ticketed.

Attracts an older crowd but at the same time SMU students go there. Great Beer selection. Great Atmosphere. Sometimes hard to find parking. LOVE the frites and mussels.

Some of the best fish and chips! Frittes are awesome!

Came here on April 2 with my boyfriend and my friends met us here! I love coming here.... Yea so the parking can be a problem but we parked not far away but the atmosphere is awesome.... Drinks were great, dinner was yummy, and our waitress was awesome.... Definitely had an awesome birthday here!!

This is a fun spot, especially late evenings. Always busy with great people to meet. The service is good, not great. Very nice selection of beers to choose from when looking for something different. Major issue (and we've seen it on all three of our visits) is that specialty beers served in 10 ounces glasses means only the glass is 10 ounces. The short pours of beers is getting ridiculous. We knew of it and avoid those beers. A table next to our group last weekend complained of not getting a full beer and was told by the wait staff that management knew and was "O.K. as all bars pour drinks that way now".!!! They let there beer heads settled, marked the glass and used water to prove they could get two "servings" of beer into a 12 ounce beer bottle. This needs to stop.

This gem is open on Sundays, so you can have a really nice brinch with the option of their full menu! You will not be disappointed. Cheers!

We just hung out on the patio and had dinner & drinks - I never went into the restaurant. This place was within walking distance for us so that was a perk. Food was okay - but I wish I had read about the fish and chips because they sound amazing. We loved sitting on the patio just chatting and people watching. It was great for a low key night. Things to note: they do have parking on site.

I went to the Old Monk for a holiday party and was pleasently suprised to find that aside from having a large selection of drinks, they had a very appealing menu. my picks were the yummy beer battered calamari and the wonderful cheese plate which paired perfectly with my drinks. i also requested a dirty martini which they made just the way i like it. the only thing i found negative about this bar was the crowded atmosphere and the the drunk staffs inability to help us find our car. we had parked in a valed lot next to the old monk, and when we left at closing the valet attendants were gone, our car was left unlocked and with no keys to be found. when we went back into the old monk, the drunk doorman was no help and the staff had no idea where we were supposed to find our keys. it was really upsetting and a horrible experience. finally one of the customers had let us know that the valet service had gone 2 blocks down. in all it was an okay experience, i would just suggest you cab there or park somewhere other then valet, and try not to rely on the staff because they are clueless.

The BEST habmurguers I had in my life. Very nice irish pub, great beer and great environment. Fav

We stopped just to have a few drinks and a few beers. The clientele is most certainly of the younger generation, but the atmosphere was great, the beer cold and the drinks well mixed.

I know this is a great place to get a beer, but not ALL of us like beer! The wine choices were few and not varied. The patio is a great choice, on a crisp night. The salmon with crackers was the only light fare there. If you love beer only, this is a good place.

Recommended by a hipster concierge at the DFW Marriott.. This place was a good place to unwind and have a drink from their large selection of local and big brand whiskeys. Felt like i was in Ireland at one point. The bartender has an Irish brogue accent. Overall, good place, so give it a try.

Fun place to go and catch up with friends, lots and lots of different beers!

A great place to pop in and try some local and European beers, with a good buzzing vibe!

This little pub was really nice. The waitresses were attentive and they had a wide selection of beverages to choose. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable regardless of what type of crowd you normally run with. Only drawback was the lack of parking. I will be back to this pub if I'm in the area.

One of the better batches of fish and chips - perfectly fried, not greasy, good sauces to slather on. Decent selection of beers (and the waitress was knowledgeable and helpful in experimenting with the local selection). Mussels were runty, with decent cooking sauce. Pub a bit on the noisy side.

Really nice pub. Our bartender was very friendly and made good suggestions. The cheese board was really good and the drinks he made were tasty. Will definitely go back.

3 for an early dinner with outside patio seating. We were greeted promptly and had a drink order placed within 5 minutes. The beer selection was very extensive, if you drink beer. The CO2 tank was running low, so my diet coke tasted funny, but they were really apologic and I decided upon a margarita instead of canned Dr. Pepper. My mom had a Purple Jesus and it was o.k. I think they are much better at beer than mixed drinks. Calamari was really good (even I ate it) and so was the fish and chips. My mom and I split an order and we had plenty of food and even left fries on the plate. Not sure about the vibe of the place as they didn't seem that busy on a Friday night, but like I said earlier, it was still early. Parking lot was full though. Might or might not feel the need to go back again.

Had brunch on the patio here last weekend. We had a great time and the atmosphere was near perfect. However, the service and food were both very average. Our server did not get our orders quite right and one person's eggs were extremely over easy. The $10 mimosa carafes are hard to beat though!

Fantastic pistachio Fried Chicken Amazing spicy tempura mushrooms, wonderful selection of high end flavored vodkas.Daniel is the best bar tender ever in Dallas and I don't even know him personally.I am here from Houston. Late night super food and drink and venue. Outside seating too..

.. a large comfortable bar and room with good seating and several rooms including a good outdoor patio... extensive choice of beer and good cocktails... wide menu selection from appetizers to entrees... good food and atmosphere... although a little pricey.

I have been here a couple of times in the past month. The drink selection is grand, and the food is great. The Old Monk also highlights a few of the local craft brews, as well as many other hard to find brews. The patio is heated and is nice for sitting in the open air. The interior is quaint and European.

The pub with ambiance, and a patio to boot. Located on Henderson Avenue, the Old Monk is a great place to meet friends, to hang or catch up. In addition to an awesome beer list, and full bar, the Monk has the best bar food I have found. Burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, as well as appetizers, with some great vegetarian options. I met a friend for dinner, and I started with a vegetarian lentil soup, which was light, but spicy. For my entrée, I chose the Vegetarian Burger, which is made in-house, with lentils, bulgur wheat, leeks, mushrooms, corn, cashews & spices; with lettuce, tomato, red onion. I would rank it as the most flavorful vegetarian burger I have found! Glenn Almack

love the ambiance and the food

Ambiance of The Old Monk has such a cool vibe! Excellent food, - I had the Gypsy Bourbon Grilled Chicken Sandwich - yum! My wife had the Vegetarian Reuben with Guinness Stew - delectable! Kaitlyn was our server and she made us feel welcome, and took care of our every need. Our first time here and we look forward to returning. I encourage everyone to try this place, it'll be great!

Love the burgers!!!

Are you sick of chains? I sure am! I am always searching for a family run business and the Old Monk is most surely not a chain! This bar/restaurant is in a delightful residential neighborhood near the highway - lots of other family businesses near by. It is super casual - the wait staff is relaxed & doesn't rush you. We had the pretzel bread to start - yes get it. And I had a salad with warm goat cheese while my husband had the fish & chips - everything was so good. There are local beers on tap. You can sit in the old style bar or outside - sit outside if you can it's really nice. Next time I am in the Highlands are I will look for a reason to go back!

This is BY FAR my favorite bar/pub in Dallas/Fort Worth, and you can usually find my boyfriend and I (plus or minus our roommates/good friends) here on a weekly basis, and we have been coming here for about five years, or so. We live about 20 miles away now, but we still come here because the service is A+++ (friendly, attentive, personable, knowledgeable), it's got a great atmosphere, and the drinks are never disappointing. I know that someone on here complained about the black & tans, however my boyfriend's favorite drink is the half & half and he's never had one that's been poured badly - it's always perfectly separated. Perhaps that day they had someone new, or a little off. I can't even see them letting a poorly-made drink leave the bar. The patio(s) are awesome and well-heated for days it might be a little chilly. The ambiance inside is my favorite. There's a dartboard, a few strategically-placed televisions that you can see from wherever you're sitting, and as the nights wear on and the bar begins to crowd, the people-watching is ridiculously entertaining. The food there is great - typical bar food, but it tastes good. We love the fries, the loaded fries, the Reuben, and the cheeseboards are awesome. It's relaxed enough that you see families in there during the day, catching lunch. It's a great place for a date, a group outing with friends, or if you just want to take a seat at the bar and catch a game and have a drink by yourself.

I know American's don't walk, but at least you can have an alcoholic drink if you do! We sat on the patio and had a very laid back meal. Very much a pub, but with reasonable food. We had a reuben and fish and chips, with 3 beers for $37.88. If you like a pub atmosphere this is the place for you.

Perfect small down to earth bar with no frills. Come here for the beer and fish and chips and stay for the people and friends that you will make here. Love it

Had to eat outside as the place was packed. They had heaters going, but they could not overcome the cool breeze. I enjoyed my order of fish and chips and my wife enjoyed her Moules frites (fancy was of saying mussels and French fries). We shared a Chocolate brownie, as well. Our server Natalie was friendly, but just a little slow for me as I was cold. Would definitely eat there again. Parking is a little thin in the area. Fortunately we were able to walk from our hotel. Inside I thought the music was too loud for conversation.

My favorite pub in Dallas. The food is excellent (Ploughman's and burgers to mention just two), the beer selection is solid, staff are always nice and the patio is great. What more can you want from a pub? Even the parking is pretty good (most places are valet in this area). Kids are welcome before 7pm (and they like the food). I used to live opposite this pub, so I safely can say my review is based on a large number of visits!

Like the title reads, they messed up our tab. Reason being, we never could get a server to come outside to our table. It was a beautiful day on a Saturday afternoon, happy people on the patio...no server. We found an un occupied table for four. The other surrounding patrons told us we didn't need to wait to be seated, the server will come out. Well, she did and totally ignored our table. Looked right at us. It was clear we hadn't been served yet. So, never mind that...we kept our table and just went to the bar to order our drinks and we took them back out to our table. We were fine with that. One of the couples we were with needed water. So I happened to catch the eye of a server, waved her over and asked for water. She was actually nice, didn't seemed overwhelmed so we decided to order one more round of drinks to the table. Told her we had a tab open at the bar. She assured us that was fine. She said we didn't need to close out at the bar. In the end we were charged doubled for everything. All of us! Tried to get it worked out. I'm still waiting on my bank app to see if we will get credited???

Really nice time. 1st visit. Really enjoyed the vibe / atmosphere. Difficult to find seating & it is seat yourself. But, had a great meal & highly recommend this place. Food very good. Service is spotty/somewhat slow but waitstaff was very friendly.

The Old Monk is about as close to an Irish pub as you can get in the US. Walk in and your immediately hit with the cozy, dark, woody feel of a good pub. The wide range of beer and ale on tap is right there, and the food is also very good. The patio is a fine spot to chill and check out one of the hippest streets in Dallas. Grab a brew, get a bite, enjoy.

Great place with many beers and a dark old world atmosphere. Irish stew is great. The Wurst Board was tasty.

A Dallas institution in my mind. Come here for a scotch, a great beer, good service, and some good food. Excellent neighborhood bar. I don't live in Dallas anymore, but I always come here when I'm in town.

We went to The Old Monk for some food and drinks on a Saturday night at about 7pm. The place was very busy and we were lucky enough to snag one of the two tables that were left. On the patio they have a complete misting system, fans, and smoke scrubbers for us non smokers which was totally cool. It was about 98 out and it felt very comfortable on the patio. The inside was full with no tables by this time so if you want to sit inside, get there before 6pm. Our server was polite and efficient which was fine. She had no menu selection input so we winged it. The tempura mushroom and avocado chicken bites(like sliders) were delicious. The burgers look great. There is a huge beer selection. I had a signature drink the Purple Jesus. It was good too but very small...You'll want 2. We will definitely be going back.

They also have a full bar but what about the beer. Yes they gave a lot of imports. I had a Ruben if I recall the menu said pastrami but it tasted and looked like corn beef. I would return. Did I mention the beer?

Was a very nice day and we sat outside. Service was a little slow. The irish stew was flavorful but the meat tough. The fish and chips was excellent. The steak fries were dry. Guinness seemed fresh and not outrageously priced. Overall a nice experience but hoped for more. I will try the other fries next time.

Wonderful food and service on a Monday night. Laid back, relaxed atmosphere. Our new favorite when visiting Dallas.

The Old Monk is a nice local pub that has been modeled by many other's. The reason is the formula is a success. A good choice of taps, bottles, and rotators, along with infused drinks, and blends takes care of the thirsty needs. The food is great, with typical offerings and a few with a different twist. The bread pudding desert is incredible. There is more seating outside than in if your looking to sit at other than the bar. Fans with misters seemed to be enough to knock the major part of the Texas heat down. Service was friendly and attentive. The only thing that I didn't like was being given my check without asking for it. I guess our server was done for the night. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

The breakfast plate for lunch is massive and delicious, so much food and so cheap! The drinks and bar tenders are very fun, shoutout to Josh K! Great spot for friends or even to watch a sports game. Get the purple Jesus drink! Would go back every day if I could.

If you can find a table, the patio is a great spot for drinks with friends! It's a busy bar, but we were served quickly. Cool atmosphere!
Great selection of food and beverages
The Old Monk was within walking distance of my son's new apartment, what a great find. We had a Chipotle Avocado Chicken sandwich, excellent flavor. Lot of choices for both food and beverages. Can't wait to go back and try other things.
