Terrible service, delicious food!

By Sarah B |

Paper Bridge is doing a lot right with the food. I was impressed by the rich flavors! But, the service was abysmal. It took 5 mins to be greeted by anyone at the door and 20 mins for anyone to come to our table. Then, we were asked to free up our table while we still had food on our plates. Not sure if I will go back. Really disappointed after hearing good things.

The same yet different...and that's great!

We found this hole in the wall in the inner east side (where there are so many such places) two weeks ago, and went and then promptly went back to move on in the menu. It was phenomenal. For folks not used to VietNamese food, you will be blown away by the interesting flavors and textures. For those accustomed to the cuisine, but raised on a diet of primarily southern VietNamese that dominates in America, there are joys in discovering the familiar but not quite flavors in this menu. We worked our way through about half the menu over two visits. The morning glory (I doubt related to what we call morning glory in the US) was a great replacement for spinach. The dungeness crab rolls were flavorful and crispy and moist inside. the oysters were briny and beautifully cooked. the crispy pork was flavorful and crisp. Our one disappointment was the rooster, bone in fried chicken that was difficult to eat and frankly didn't do much more than any fried chicken place. But that did not detract from, overalll, a great meal. The drink menu is limited but creative. I particularly liked the Calamansi Gin Fizz and my ladyfriend loved the espresso martini. Service is informal but attentive and they really hustle. Prices are reasonable and both times we've been there ran around $40/person.

Terrible Pho Nam Dinh. High price point. Cute deco

Cool deco. Very cute place - both the main dining area as well as the small "cave" area populated with plastic tables and chairs (vibing street seating in Vietnam street food stalls). The dungeness crab was good as was the morning glory with nice chunks of garlic. The grilled pork (aka the Obama/Boudain's special) is on point. The MOST disappointing dish was their Pho Nam Dinh (where my mother was bornt!). Nice presentation but super bland and the noodles were way, way overcooked... Northern Pho is nothing like this... It tasted like someone just boiled some beef and threw in a couple of anise... That was that bland :( High price point as well.

Very good, authentic and flavorful!!

We went here with some friends at the end of our trip prior to going to the airport and it was so good!! We had read about it in the NYT as being one of the top restaurants in the country and it did. It disappoint!! The menu is very extensive but it is well explained in the back of the menu and by our server. We had the crab spring rolls which were very good, the boiled peanuts (because we are from alabama where they are plentiful) and for entrees I had the Pho that Anthony Bourdain recommended to Obama (see menu description). It had the house made cold rice noodles and pork bacon and meatballs with a sweet sauce. My wife had the fish Pho and it was very good as well We had a Gin Fizz which is very popular and my wife had a Mezcal Paper Plain which had the great smoky flavor. Perfect end to a great trip!!

Great Food

This place has incredible food. Try the Pho Chien Pong, Pho Cuon, Bun Cha, and sautéed Morning Glory. After several trips to Vietnam, this is our go to spot in Portland. Just go there. You will not regret it.

Beautiful vibes

Thank goodness for google maps-initially drove by it because there wasn’t much signage that indicated the entrance. But, once inside, we were warmly greeted and directed to a lovely table. It’s a beautifully decorated space with a menu in both Vietnamese and English. Our knowledgeable server helped us narrow it down to four delicious dishes. All were yummy! We were told they have only been opened for 6 months, and that dessert will added at a later time. Highly recommend!

A Hidden Gem in Portland

Some of the best Vietnamese food I have ever eaten! Lots of new and interesting menu choices. Three of us ordered three different dishes and shared. They were all excellent, and I would go there again to eat the same thing and/or order something new. Great service, too!
