Definitely going back!

By miro91 |

The People's Pig has been open for a bit now but I just made my first visit recently. Despite being busy, my order came quickly. Served on a small tray with butcher paper:) The smoked pork shoulder was sliced instead of pulled, which I liked. Dry rub rules here!

Great BBQ

By Brendan S |

The People’s Pig is everything I expected a Portland restaurant to be. A small, dive-y building. Tattooed and pierced wait staff. Drinks served in mason jars. Synth-pop and new wave music tracks (including the song that was the “Portlandia” theme song). And most importantly, craft beers and BBQ smoked as you wait. I had a red ale, a flavorful pork plate with spicy BBQ sauce, “Jo jo” fried potatoes and cornbread drizzled with cane syrup. Thoroughly enjoyable meal, and at happy hour, the price was under $20.

Wow, go for happy hour!

A funky place, outstanding value. Don't miss happy hour and go for the brisket with a great microbrews!

MUST Eat Here!

By melanie j |

I went here with 2 friends who are REAL meat eaters. We ordered the $60 sampler with fixings. It was DELICIOUS! That old saying “you don’t need teeth to eat this meat” was truly applicable. The Dry ribs. Tri-tip, pork shoulder, lamb and chicken delish. You’ll have to visit to find out the sides. Umm ummm...we even had left overs 😃

BBQ

Best BBQ in town. I do not go anywhere else. Brisket is amazing and so is the smoked fried chicken. Which is boneless, crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I have tried the black eyed peas, greens and cornbread sides and all are outstanding. This is a small place, parking is tough but the food is so worth it. In the summer time there is quite a bit of outside seating out back.

Power to the Pig

By John Sowell |

I love that the People's Pig is a whole-in-the-wall joint just a hop, skip and a jump from the New Seasons market on Northeast Williams Street. They smoke their own meats outside and when the weather's nice you can sit at a sidewalk table. I ordered the $14 pork plate, sliced pork shoulder and two sides. The pork was fantastic, charred on the outside and a pink smoke ring. I enjoyed the potato salad but am not a big coleslaw fan. It was ok. Service was quick and friendly.

Great barbecue

By Tropical_Gangster |

Small, nothing fancy but the food is off the hook. Small ribs dinner with corn bread and collards greens. 4 beef ribs cooked to perfection. Greens were cooked in a tasty auju. The dipping bbq sauce and s fresh and home made. Seating in the backyard at picnic tables enhanced the home cooking experience. Wish they had the lamb. Will be back to check it out.

Great food in a rustic ambiance

By Maria |

The menu was great. It has a lot of variety, like pork belly, ribs, brisket, lamb, others. The corn bread was perfectly made. The briket was delicious as it was the porcheta. The ambience was rustic with picnic tables outside. No problem with that but could had used a little of a shade. Definitely recommended for the bbq lovers.

Best Brisket I've had in a long time

By Bill G |

Excellent brisket. Moist and melt in your mouth. On my list to go back for a repeat meal. Very fair pricing. You don't leave hungry for sure.

One meal fantastic; one meal no so good

By Onedan |

My first time I ordered the barbecued lamb. It was one of the best BBQ meals I've had. Not fatty or greasy; lots of good smoke flavor. Second time I went I had something else, don't remember what. It was greasy and the sides were unappealing. I'll try again.

I probably wont go back to the burnside location

By dorkage |

Just too much attitude from the Burnside location waitress. What is it with these millennial restaurants. I'm an old Portlander..things just used to be much nicer. Food was just ok. A friend told me a much better place. My dad and his friend didn't like the place. They wont even give a receipt after you eat. I'm tired of the out of town millennials. I don't recommend. Pork was ok but dry. Corn bread was no good in my opinion. This review is of the burnside store.

Great food - smoked meats ummmm

By 503Ian |

Do yourself a favor eat here. All the meats are excellent - order whatever they tell you is good that day, place has gotten a fair amount of good press since it opened, all very deserved the focus is the smoked meats and for good reason they no what they are doing. Space is small and usually busy. I have taken several friends here all of them have always been very happy and full when we leave. Wish this restaurant was in our town!

Delicious

Im not a huge smoked meat fan. My boys are, so we tried it. Everything was delicious! I found the fried chicken loaded with great spices and mild smoked flavor. The cornbread smothered in honey and butter is a must try. We also had the lamb and brisket sandwich. Its an old funky building with their gardens next door. Portions are great and the price is right. Give it a try!

The South comes to the NW

By B_VWestCoast |

At first glance the building has the feel of the South,...as you go inside you will notice the place is small! But has a fantastic aroma & the perfect hole in the wall southern BBQ shack. The sides were,...just OK,...but everyone has their own secret way of doing sides. I came for the "MEAT"! Was NOT disappointed. Downside was,...place/table/chair kind of sticky! Waitress was friendly enough but VERY distracted,..forgot part of our order. The building has stood for a good 50 years & it shows. Positive take away,...they know how to smoke meat with flavor!!

BBQ Smoked Meats at Its very BEST!

By cgod |

The People's Pig began as a quintessential food truck and launched itself into a quintessential Portland brick & mortar BBQ - now in 2 locations! My husband and I have now eaten at both the N Williams and E Burnside outpost. Both serve excellent smoked meats where the primary difference is a tweak in the Burnside menu: Porchetta is available!!! Knowing that, our household of 5 headed over to the latter & ordered the Combo! OMG! For $60 bucks we ate like royalty and rolled out the door! This was another proof how Portland, Oregon (in our opinion) remains both family-friendly AND affordable! Our single combo order included 6 smoked meats (lamb, brisket, sausage, fried chicken, pulled pork AND porchetta) and 6 delicious sides! Generous, tasty tender, and flavorful, the selections are all served with a helpful smile! No Complaints from us! Our dinner at The People's Pig offered smoked meats at its very BEST! Thank you People's Pig!!!

Yum-yum

One of the best BBQ food I ever had! I had the BBQ pork sandwich with slaw in the sandwich, with a side of their delicious corn bread. The BBQ pork was well-cooked and super tasty. Get there early if you want to try their ribs; I didn’t get a chance to try them, but next time I’ll be in Portland, I’ll make sure to make a beeline to get some ribs!

Fantastic! Best meal we've had!

By Jordyn B |

My boyfriend found this little gem. He had the fried chicken sandwich and I had the BBQ pork. Both were done to perfection. Chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned. Pork shoulder melted in your mouth. We both had the potato salad as a side dish and the dill tasted as if it was just picked from the garden! Do not miss this joint, it is well worth it!

Tiny restaurant with big flavor

By Eric H |

My friend and I had a craving for barbecue after a winter bike ride. I'd heard about and ridden by the People's Pig but had never taken the opportunity to stop. We stopped for dinner on Friday and wow, what a stop! I've had barbecue over the years at several of Portland's higher rated places. Unfortunately, I've found them to be pretty uniformly overpriced and just kind of....average. Not bad, just ok. Pretty small cuts of meat with pretty big prices. The People's Pig blew any prior opinions I've held on PDX 'que. We hit the Happy Hour menu for the brisket, ribs and black eyed peas. Really good! The brisket was lean and tasty. I'm not ordinarily a rib aficionado but the Pig's ribs were the best I've had. Plenty of tender meat and full of flavor! The black eyed peas were also outstanding! I'm very far from being a restaurant critic but hands down the best barbecue I've ever eaten in this town. The restaurant itself is quite small. We arrived during Happy Hour and just beat the after work crowd rush. The service was prompt and friendly. I was told they are in the process of opening another restaurant on East Burnside. That's good news...closer to my house and more opportunities for great barbecue.

Sweet little place

By Mrmattd2000 |

Small place. Don't bring your kids or elders. All about the meat. Nothing on this menu sucks or is average. Just the price is average. Freaking excellent pork and brisket. I had sides, I can barely remember, I was so concentrated on da meat! Corn bread and beans,I think. No complaints on the sides. Dank beer in mason jar type vessels. Crafty cocktails looked good. Small gig, come alone or with carnivorous loving date and somebody is getting something by nights end.

Fabulous BBQ

By Wildtrvlr |

Saw the little unassuming blue building while walking to my car and thought it looked like it would be a great place for BBQ. I was not disappointed. Very small bar but the cocktails are great. I had a smoked whiskey sour which paired perfectly with the smoked meats. The smoked fried chicken was tender succulent the ribs were tender and the sauce was smoky hot with a touch of sweet. The corn bread was crispy and buttery, perfect. Can’t wait to go back to try the pork shoulder.

Yummy take-out

By African Travel and More🥰❤ |

I visited the People's Pig as a recommendation from a Portland native. The barbeque was tender and the sides were okay.I think it was a bit over priced. They were out of many side dishes. That's because I arrived 15 minutes before closing so that's always a risk😂

Better than my Momma's Cookin'!

By David-Karen C |

Our mouths started watering the minute we stepped in the door and were greeted with the amazing aroma of slow-cooked, smoked meat! We shared the brisket plate with collard greens and cornbread. Our son ordered the smoked pork belly with macaroni & cheese and slaw. Everything tasted amazing! We would highly recommend this quaint cafe!

Southern BBQ with a Portland Twist

By JL H |

This is a funky little place with great BBQ. They put a Portland spin on the Southen staple. They are kinda famous for their BBQ fried chicken sandwich, but I prefer the pulled pork and ribs myself. One of the best things here are the sides, all very good with huge portions!

Wonderful

We've been eating our way through Portland pretty much every day for the last 5 weeks and the People's Pig is towards the top of the list based on overall satisfaction, value, and palate compatibility. This isn't a gourmet restaurant by any means. It's a down home, smoked goodness, comfort BBQ joint at it's best. First let me say that this is a BBQ joint so focus on their brisket, pork shoulder, and BBQ. My husband had the $25 pick 2 platter (brisket and pork shoulder), I had the $14 fried smoked chicken platter, but regretted my choice once I sampled his. Sides are absolutely fantastic and the portions are great. Potato salad is made with sour cream and fresh dill, a refreshing change from the standard dish. Baked beans were demolished in short order and the corn bread is the best we've had. The platter was so good that our dining partner ordered one to go. Speaking of the platter, one order could be enough for two people with small appetites although my husband had no trouble in polishing his off. Just know that if you share a platter, you only get half of what's on there. Portions were large and prices were very reasonable. As a parting testimonial, we licked our fingers and talked about our meal for hours afterward.

7 of us ate at the Burnside St site. We had 2 combos of smoked lamb,dry-rub ribs,smoked-fried chicken, smoked pork shoulder, beef brisket, barbecue sauce, crispy pork rinds, collard greens, and cornbread. All of us thought it was great, especially the smoked fried chicken and the best cornbread I have ever eaten. he other sides potato salad, mac and cheese ,etc were okay but I would not order them again. Service was good. Kept our ice tea glasses filled. When I am back in OR, I will return to he People's Pig
