3 of 61 Bars & Pubs in Los Angeles

Took grandsons to watch planes but the food inthe food court was excellent. Best ribs I have ever tasted. Also got Poke from the bar which was outstanding.

We live in central Oregon now but up until about 8 years ago -- for 35 years we lived in southern California and any time we could, we'd have a dinner at the Proud Bird -- an icon near the LA airport for 48 years. We were there last week for a wonderful prime rib dinner before our return flight to Oregon. Sadly, the hostess told us that the restaurant would be closing in November!!! How can that be?? Such a wonderful place (see all the other reviews with pics of old airplanes, etc.) It seems that LAWA (Los Angeles World Airports) has decided not to allow them to renew their lease on the land! They want to stay. There are 200 people who will be losing their jobs! I'm sure there will be a new parking lot put up instead! How sad. This restaurant is so special.

The renewed Proud Bird should get the bird. Lousy food, overrated, was distasteful. Loud, due to removal of walls separating eating areas. I get better service at In n Out. And the hamburgers at Islands is a better deal and with preparation and taste. They have a lot of improvements to effect, before they lose clientele and the business closes upon history of a fine dining establishment.

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. They have an extensive buffet for $19 (great value in LA). I ordered off the menu. Very tasty sandwich and a huge one at that...I only ate half. They were happy to switch out the fries for a garden salad which was also very good. Service was A+ (efficient and friendly). I sat outside and watched the planes land at LAX. They have a display of antique aircraft in their back yard. Sadly, they need some serious restoration which I know takes money. The interior of the restaurant is very nice; but the exterior needs some serious work (the garden area, the roof, exterior walls, the sign, etc). I understand that it is due for a refurbishing soon. Highly recommended even if you are not an airplane aficionado. I hope to visit there again on my next trip to the area and hope it is still around!

Lot's of history here. So sad that it is closing. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly. Get there while you can!

I was excited that The Proud Bird didn't close as expected until we went for Easter Brunch. The buffet food was just ok--they have eliminated a number of items from the buffet, perhaps to save the cost? We were seated in an area with no air conditioning then moved to an area with fans blowing on us. In both cases it was extremely hot and uncomfortable. The servers were extremely slow in bringing coffee and water (we waited for at least 45 minutes) and were having trouble keeping up with refilling champagne glasses. The only beverages available on the buffet were hot cocoa and OJ. If you wanted a mimosa, you needed to bring a glass of OJ back to your table yourself and attempt to pour it into your champagne glass. All in all, I probably won't go again. Too bad--it used to be really nice.

Every year since we have been married we come back on our anniversary. This year was no exception. We were having car trouble and told them that we were on our way. The staff very accommodating. The wait staff remembered us. They do have a kids menu but if your kids are not well behaved leave them at home. This is a quality high price dining. They do need to extend their hours. Dinner ends at 8pm. I recommend the celebration dinner with wine pairing. I paid 45 dollars each and had a taste of 2 wines and a glass of bubbly. Luckily I was not the designated driver.

We went to this restaurant for their 'Father's Day' brunch. The food was very good & they had a good selection. Their advertisement said "Dad's first beer is on us" but did not say the additional beer purchases were required!

A piece of Los Angeles history... and L.A. rarely values it's history. Closing in 4 days (Dec. 18th 2013) due to an astronomical increase in rents due to LAX commission rules. Get there fast. Food is good, prices are high... added 18% tax for the previous high rents so there is that too. Get there early to enjoy the history on the walls and planes on the grounds. Have a drink where astronauts and aerospace pioneers once did.

This is a good place to have a steak and watch the airplanes land at LAX. Not a fantastic restaurant but pretty good steak place. Service has its ups and downs this visit it was up.

Excellent place to watch the planes land at LAX and have a drink at the bar or a quick bite from several good venders Lot of construction going on in the area but inside was quiet and clean.

The Ambience In The Tuskegee Room Was Nice And The Food Was Delicious. The Decor Of The Banquet Hall Was Exceptional

We have been here before and both visits were good, but they need more staff. Order taking was a line and when you wanted a water glass after ordering $100 of food for a family…they point you to the back of the line. Nice play area and grass area for kids to play. Tried to report an electrical issue (wires sparking) and yes you guessed it…pointed to you to stand in line. Told them no problem if a kid gets hurt or fire and they sent someone right away. Most of the food good such as Bbq, salads and pizza. Hamburger not great, but fries good. Overall …fun place for families or after work to hang out with colleagues.

We had been wanting to eat here for a long time, so when we heard that they were closing, but we had until late Dec., we made reservations on the outbound for return Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. We had an excellent Filet Mignon ($32), cooked perfectly, served with potatoes and delicious green beans. The sauce that came with it was excellent. The salad before that was good too with walnuts. I read of the Beer Cheese soup, so I ordered it, which was quite good and a taste I had not had before. The bread was very fresh and the butter was delicious too. The fun part of this place is watching the planes fly into LAX. The restaurant faces north, with huge windows, perfect for viewing. The planes come every few minutes and they are very close, so it's fun for the kids, although this is more of a classy place, so we only saw a few kids in the restaurant. Some guests seated next to us had cameras and tripods, filming and identifying planes. Outside you can see replicas of famous planes (Chuck Yeager's sound barrier). It was a nice history lesson for the kids. I'm sad to read that this restaurant is closing soon because they can't keep up with the expensive lease. Note an extra 15% is added onto the bill at the end, which is not gratuity. We talked to the waiter and they said that hopefully a deal will be worked out soon. We hope so! What a loss if they close, because the meal was great!

Anyone interested in aircraft will love this place. An interesting mix of Mexican-style hacienda and their own aviation museum/tribute with replica aircraft displays in the courtyard and plenty of photos adorning the walls inside. Plus a view of the approach path to LAX which is spitting distance away that gets you up close and personal to the wide variety of airliners that land at LAX. The quality of the food and the service was sensational. The price of the food on the other hand was a little steep. There is also a %15 tax included on top of the bill (excluding gratuity) which has something to do with the proximity of the restaurant to LAX. This means that an average bill for 3 people was around $110 without gratuity (based on 2 visits we made) The Beer Cheese Soup MUST be ordered! And their steaks are pretty good too!

This was the 2nd time we went here. The first time was only to take away food. On both occasions though, it was prior to departing LAX for London. The first time we went we were really impressed by this quirky place. The building and its interior are fantastic. Obviously, the aircraft make this an interesting place too. The take away we got seemed to take forever ( we may as well have eaten inside the restaurant). It was nothing complicated either. That aside, and the reason for my 'terrible service' comment....... On our second visit to the Proud Bird, we really enjoyed being able to have the time to look around this lovely building and looked forward to seeing the dining area....which did not disappoint! The view of the aircraft coming in to land at LAX was fantastic. If you have children, they'll love it. After this, it seemed to go downhill. After we were seated, we waited quite a while to have our orders taken. The gentleman who served us was an 'older' chap. Two of our orders were from a child's menu where there were different options of drinks or sides to go with whatever you ordered - neither of which were asked for before he left our table. I also got the impression that because there was no order of alcohol from us, meaning our total bill would not be significantly high, and therefore lesser 'tip' for the guy, he seemed uninterested and lacking that friendly service you'd usually get in the US. What's more.....the service seemed to be at a snail pace and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. All in all, I found the whole experience very disappointing. The food was ok, but, nothing to write home about. The place is in a good location and very handy for someone flying out of LA, with time to spare. The grounds, the entrance and the building interior are fantastic. You can feel the history as soon as you set foot in the place. I would recommend this place to visit, but, as far as eating I think you have to weigh up other people's reviews and maybe don't go with high hopes. Maybe, our server was just having a bad day, who knows.

Meeting family on a business trip was possibly due to the great location next to LAX. The food was excellent too

If you travel in and out of LAX, then you have flown over this restaurant on approach many times. Very nice menu of steaks, seafood and chicken. Good shrimp cocktail to begin your dining experience. Food and drinks are good but not great. Lots of pictures and exhibits of aircraft and commercial and military aviation history make this a must stop for flying enthusiasts. Friendly and helpful staff that at times seem rushed and over worked. Plenty of off street parking. If you love aviation, then be sure to stop by for lunch or dinner and enjoy.

for the many passengers with hours to kill before a continuing flight, a quick visit to the proud bird will prove the best location to pass time, enjoy a drink ( they have an early bird offer upon presentation of a boarding pass for a flight to come, and enjoy watching the air traffic passing by on the terrasse by the fire pits. free parking (make sure though that nothing is visible in your car while parked)

Only con I had was the food was cold. Overall the food was good. Had the bbq brisket, pulled pork, ribs, macaroni and cheese, greens, and cornbread. Had a great happy hour drink menu. Clean place not overly crowded. You can sit outside and see the planes land as its directly next to the airport. Would definitely reccomend this place.

We stopped at the Proud Bird for lunch and some plane spotting. Food was decent, great salads, pizza for the little ones and good sandwiches. Full bar service at the Mile High Bar along with a nice selection of beers on tap. Great view of the south runways from both inside and outside. The old planes on display outside were in pretty tough shape and the grass area where they are located is bad. Inside and the the outside patio seating is very nice.

We stopped here as we had a few hours to kill before catching an international flight. The staff were lovely and didn't hurry us along at all. We enjoyed the retro building and appreciated just sitting there peacefully over our wine and snacks. Worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere to hangout that isn't all tv screens and football.

For those of us who are connected to the aviation world, both past and present, what better spot to spend a few hours looking again at the WW2 aircraft on the stands and parked in the rear area, along with grading the approach for the many passenger aircraft landing on 25L while enjoying either lunch or dinner either outside or inside. What a loss it is to see this historic landmark closing. It is a pity they cannot move all the aircraft to the museum on the South side, next to cargo, where the DC 3 is parked.....and what about all of the historic photos inside???? Bye the way, the food is pretty good also........all in all a great spot for aviation buffs for both food and aircraft.....visit real soon as it is closing within a month or so.

When I worked at Xerox Center down the way a bit in El Segundo our Division (called a Family Group back then in the 80s) used to have their regular meetings here and start with lunch. For an old aircraft carrier sailor like me, it was like coming home sitting and eating the buffet next tomthe runway final approach. I am sure it will be the same after renovations. Lots of us in the Division were vets and we all ate with the headphones on, listening to the chatter. Some of us even did that during the meeting which followed! Enjoy! By the way, the cheeseburger, Turkey BLT and French dip are all excellent off their lunch menu.

If you love great food and have a love of planes then this is heaven. We visited three times on our ten day visit to LA. Fantastic food and great views of the landing aircraft. There are some static exhibits and a children's play area also.

Trip down memory lane. Old famous aircraft on the outside-old famous people in B&W on the inside. U can shut your eyes and see Howard Hughes and Pappy Boington and Chuck Yeager all having major drinks and basic but solid chow. Worth the nostalgia. U have to work to get there. Odd navigation.

Instead of waiting at the airport, consider going to this iconic LA restaurant. We were lucky enough to be there on a Sunday when they were serving brunch. Everything that we had was delicious. But since it was buffet style we obviously picked things that appealed to us. The shrimp was very fresh and I thought the chicken tamales were very tasty. They did seat us by the window so we were able to watch planes landing at the rate of one every 1.5 minutes. I was hoping to be able to hear chatter at the control tower as stated on the restaurant website but we were seated at a table in which the headphones were not working. I did not see anyone else using headsets to listen either, so maybe that is not an option anymore. Staff was extremely welcoming and they gave us a to-go box of items from the buffet for our person that we were picking up from the airport. We offered to pay extra for it, but they would not let us. We enjoyed walking around the grounds viewing all the planes. The building and decor was dated, but the food, service and entertainment (airline flights) were top notch. Will make this our go to place anytime we need to go to LAX.

If you enjoy watching commercial airliners land this is a good choice and you are interested in good food this is worth the stop. The service is attentive and the food appetizing. The menu has a good selection and the wait time is acceptable. The décor is that of a mid-west diner club and pleasant. The wall hangings are a history lesson in US aviation and worth the visit alone. The static displays outside the restaurant (airplanes on a stick) are getting a little long in the tooth (read old) and they show their age.

Fast food below lowest level. If you love burgers - go to in and out burger, or let say to wendys. altimes better!

Fast fried food galore. This place can not make its mind up what it wants to be, so it has ended up being a mashup of things. Expensive self serve cafeteria excelling in fried foods and carbs. With no atmosphere at all. A bizarre collection of airplane replicas I a garden, inter spaced with attempt at making a museum. Two stars for being a good plane spotting location

Saw this place many times when landing at LAX and never knew what it was. Looked interesting with all the vintage planes on display around it. After finding out it was a restaurant my curiosity was piqued. Finally had the time to find it and go there for lunch. It's like an old pilot's hangout, so old that you are greeted by a smelly bathroom when you first walk in. They have a fairly limited lunch menu and a buffet to choose from. Chose the buffet and felt like I was at a dinner banquet in 1968. Food tasted pretty good but I was there for lunch, not dinner! My $3.50 Diet Coke was served in a 8 oz. tumbler even though there was no alcohol involved. Our poor disgruntled server had to refill it over and over and wasted a lot of time refilling everyone else around there, too. I would suggest getting larger glasses to the owners there, I mean c'mon man...what you spend in modern glassware you'll more than save in labor costs and increased table turns, especially if you clean that bathroom up front. Overall I liked it and was glad to finally satisfy my curiosity. But $65 including tip for a lunch for 2 is a little pricey, making this flight a one way ticket.

This was my second visit to the Proud Bird and I was not disappointed! Next door to LAX, you're practically in the flight path. Lots of vintage planes scattered all around the property, even in the parking lot! Fantastic meeting space in a separate banquet hall, plus large bar area and full seated restaurant. What more could you want? Bring your camera!

This restaurant is located next to a runway at Los Angeles Airport. If you like watching airplanes taking off and landing, it's great. Bring the kids. Sit outside in the garden and enjoy the scenery. Noise level is high. Food is good, buffet on Sunday. Service is wonderful. Historical antique planes on the grounds. Display of Tuskegee Air Men!

A fresh coat of paint, some photos that aren't faded away into nothing, and some new carpet would be a start. Although I really enjoy supporting this local venue I feel like my money could be better spent elsewhere. Hopefully the almost closure of this place with wake the management up and help them make some changes as it has some real potential.

This restaurant is about to close in a couple of weeks (forever), so I shouldn't be too hard on them. It appears to merely be a lackluster example of mediocre food and service. The buffet items are cold, almost exclusively non-vegan and presented as canteen food. Items ordered à la carte arrive 20 minutes after the others in your group have long finished their buffet food, but is still no better in terms of taste or look. Simple requests like, "Could I please have oil and vinegar for my salad?" had to be made twice. I wouldn't particulary recommend the restaurant if it were going to stay around in the future.

Food was good and there were a lot of options at the buffet. Cost was reasonable for the quality of the food. Enjoyed the view of planes landing at LAX. All of the planes on the lot were fascinating along with all of the historical pictures and stories throughout the building. If you love planes this place is for you.

As an airline employee this place is what every spotter dreams for. Great beer and liquor selection, food and right on final approach for LAX. There is also planes on the lawn to look at but I could spend a few hours here watching the planes and drinking some beers. Will 100% be back.

Proud Bird is as much a museum as it is a restaurant. The sharked mouthed P-40 situated above the entrance flanking a Navy Blue Corsair is first hint that this is more than a airport restaurant. Located at approach end of the main runways at LAX, the dining room is front row to approaching airliners and the rear of the restaurant features even more vintage aircraft on display. I happened upon this location years back and now always work it into my travel plans when traveling through the area. Although I have enjoyed every meal there, I mostly remember gazing at the variety of WWII aircraft on display and memorabilia on display in the hallways. The bar is dark and friendly if you aren't ready for a meal. If you are hungry, there is a variety of classic entrees available.

A great place for a unique & fun Sunday brunch. A group of friends were wanting an out of the ordinary place to meet, chat, eat & have a glass of wine. It was a blue sky day, so we sat outside amongst the planes & history of aviators of days gone by. A buffet was offered, however we each chose to order off the menu. All of us were satisfied with our choices & service. Understand that they also do alot of special & large group events. Walk around after or before dining to check out the tidbits of aviation history. And Walk around the grounds to check out the many vintage flying machines. :-)

This is a very good place to have great food and see the planes landing and taking off from LAX , the price was very reasonable , and a nice clod beer ,staff nice .

I had been there many times in the past and was excited to see the new building and sample their new restaurant. The building was beautiful, but to me, the restaurant was a failure. When we were finally ably to figure out how to order something, and picked out where to wait in line to order it, we had to find a table. Then we had to wait until the buzzer they gave us told our food was ready. I ordered a Brisket sandwich, a side of baked beans and a soft drink. The sandwich was small and almost half fat and gristle. The beans had chunks of meat which was also mostly fat and the bill was over twenty dollars. I won't be back.

Stumbled across this place and what a gem it is. Heaps of static aircraft on display. I arrived late in the afternoon so the lunch menu had finished but it looked like there was a great variety to choose from. Heaps of different drink options, hard and soft. Outside it is jetspotting paradise with the approach path for Runway 25 L&R right in front of. Also able to see over the road and watch the departures also. Inside there is a live radar off flight radar running on a tv. Staff are very friendly, restaurant is clean and tidy and clean toilets are available. Free Wifi. Outdoor seating. I will be back !!!!!!

We went to the Proud Bird for the Sunday Brunch. At $30 a person, it was a pretty good deal. A real variety of food and it was very tasty and unlimited champagne. The atmosphere is fun and the view of the planes coming in is fantastic. The waiters were only so-so, a little surly and not very friendly. But since it's a buffet, it didn't bother us that much. I hope this place doesn't close as they are planning to do. It's worth saving for posterity.

They served a group of 63 of us. Classy room and service. Had prime rib as ordered with potatoes, veggie mix and salad with wonderful vinaigrette dressing. Bar drinks were excellent as was the chocolate dessert. I wish I had taken more time to look around at all the pictures of World War II heroes.

Had lunch at the Proud Bird recent Saturday and this restaurant is a local treasure. There is so much history in this building, and the location is fantastic. Each window seat has headphones so you can listen into the control tower at LAX and listen to the pilots and air traffic controllers as they take off and land. At lunch they offer a nice buffet and you can also order off of the regular menu. We started with the Spinach Artichoke dip and it was served with triangles of pita bread, piping hot and delicious. We weren't starving, so split a Turkey Club and it was perfect. The sandwich was great, I enjoyed the cranberry mayo they put on the sandwich and the fries were hot, crunchy and seasoned. I have read some of the other reviews talking about tired, tired food and needing updating. Here is the scoop. We spent some time talking to our server, who was attentive and friendly. The family who owns the restaurant has been working for two years with the city of L.A and LAX who owns the property the restaurant sits on, trying to renew their lease. It was touch and go and it looked as though they were going to close. When the residents got involved and pushed, LAX and the city finally relented and offered them a new 20 year lease. The family has been waiting for the matter to be resolved as they didn't want to sink money into a restaurant to close. With the new lease, they are going to completely renovate. The restaurant will be closing in January 2016 for several months to complete this long awaited revival. As you walk into the restaurant, off to the left of the hostess stand they have 3 computer generated drawings of what the new Proud Bird will look like and it is gorgeous. The restaurant is large with many banquet rooms for special events or private parties. You can't beat the views. Can't wait to go back when the renovations are complete.

My first 10 yrs. I lived on the LAX approach, young adult ONT approach, now a senior the LAX approach further out....I love airplanes.......even worked many yrs. in Aerospace. This is the ideal place for me to visit for an AMAZING view of planes landing one after another. There are vintage aircraft on the grounds all over also so I was in 7th heaven. We came for the Brunch and it was pretty good and had a lot to choose from. Champagne was free-flowing and service was great! I look forward to going again sometime to try everything else I missed in the brunch as it is hard to try it all the first time around.

Have always loved this place. Outdoor patio has fabulous views of landing planes if you like that sort of thing. And I do. Food good.

The Sunday brunch is delicious with a large variety of selections. The service is very efficient. If you make reservations and get there before 10am you get a $5 discount off the $38 price. It's nice to sit by the window and watch the antique airplane display, and the planes go in to LAX. This restaurant was supposed to close last year, I'm glad it didn't.

We went there for lunch. Some may find the static display and photos neat-O-. It ain't the Smithsonian... And the restaurant ain't even Applebee's. I dropped $20 on a beer and club sandwich. $20 should buy a very good sandwich. I should have gone ... Well anywhere else. Live and learn... And avoid this place.

Wish I had discovered this place years ago! On Aviation Blvd. with full panoramic windows looking out over a sea of classic old planes, and every few minutes an airliner on final approach to LAX passes right by the windows! They even have earphones at the window tables and you can listen to the final approach tower! Admittedly, the place is a bit “long in the tooth”…that is, it needs some cosmetic work…some of the old planes need some paint and the whole place is a bit dated, but if you love airplanes and memorabilia, this is definitely a bucket-list item! There are literally hundreds of classic photos of famous pilots (Chuck Yeager, Tuskeegee Airmen, Blue Angels, to name a few, plus planes of all wars and eras)…it’s literally an aviation museum with a decent restaurant to serve you! Every seat in the house has a view of the runway final approach, and it’s exhilarating to see these big birds fly by so close! Unfortunately, I understand from the owner that their lease is up in January, and the airport might not renew it, which is one of the reasons that no renovations have been done of late. They are, however, in negotiations to renew the lease, and if the lease is renewed, the plan is to make some upgrades. Proud Bird has been in the same family for over 50 years…if you love airplanes, and particularly if you have an hour or two to kill before or between flights, don’t miss it!! It’s just a 5 minute cab ride to LAX terminal.

The service was good. The food was not so good we had fish and chips. Maybe ordered the wrong choice . Interesting place to visit if in the area.

If you like plane spotting in a museum setting, this place will serve you well. I joined colleagues for the lunch buffet at this dated restaurant. Wide selection of offerings, however the artificial crab in the hot seafood dish was not a hit with me. Once you are seated, the servers are quick to point out that the "service fee" added to all checks is not gratuity. My advice, increase the menu pricing so that the servers do not have to explain the fine print.

We took friends from England to lunch here Friday when they had a 2-hour layover. The daily buffet was a huge hit. Most dishes were seafood and delicious. The clam chowder was excellent. The carver made fresh pasta dishes which were better than most Italian restaurants and carved wonderful roast beef. The desserts were excellent, especially the hot bread pudding. The price of about $17.00 seemed more than fair for a meal in the area. The view and history are unparalleled.

Coolest restaurant runs parallel to one of the LAX runways. Planes are landing beside you while you are enjoying a well prepared meal.

Is this a great restaurant or a special airplane museum or both? The food and service here is first rate. We had the early bird specials which included a choice of roast prime rib, chicken scaloppine, and Atlantic salmon. Soup or salad plus New York cheese cake for dessert is included. My prime rib came with mashed potatoes and fresh steamed broccoli and asparagus. The beef was a perfect medium rare about 10 oz. We had an appetizer of sauteed calamari enough for four to share. The soups and salads were of a generous size and excellent. Stuffed, we still had room for the creamy cheese cake topped with a strawberry sauce and fresh berry. Their regular dinner menu included a wide selection of seafood, steaks, chicken, pasta dishes, surf and turf combos, and a glorious burger. A full bar offering wines, beers (imported, domestic and craft), cocktails, margaritas, sangria, and specialty drinks will meet anyone's preference. Then there are planes - lots of them, some held high on armatures to make them appear to be flying. Biplanes, WWII warriors, early jets from the '50s and '60s, a huge collection all outdoors and visible from the dining rooms. You can also sit outside or stroll around the grounds for a closer inspection of the aircraft. Also, one of LAX's runways goes right by the property so you can watch modern commercial planes take off and land. The walls inside the restaurant are decorated framed photos of historical planes and flyers. Someone should write a book about all the planes and photos displayed here. So, if you are an aviation aficionado and love dining well, this is the place for you. Off of the 405 freeway (or parking lot depending on the traffic) and the Imperial Highway across from the Los Angeles International airport on Aviation Blvd. and W. 111th. Go there for the friendly service and great food but have enough time to take in the aviation museum.

Have been here many times, and was thrilled that they didn't close. The views are awesome and the facility is beautiful. Food is good--it's not cutting-edge by any means but it is solid as a rock. I will certainly be back! Tip: go so you can see sunset. And GET A WINDOW SEAT!! :)

So this is close to LAX - have a nice fresh meal, watch the planes land and take off and take in the history of flight with photographic displays and a garden of vintage aircraft. Neat place!

what a great spot for lunch with a good view of old war planes on lawn and commercial planes landing at LAX airport right near runway......had a great turkey club....there was also a buffet availalbe beside lunch menu food very good and very friendly staff.....open for dinner thurs to sunday but that didn't work for me......nice dining experience

We hosted a 100th birthday party for my grandaunt! The facility was beautiful and the staff was amazing. The tables were decorated with the linens exactly as we requested. The staff consistently checked in and provided assistance whenever needed. The owner was so impressed with my table centerpieces he took pictures and asked questions. He was very complimentary. The extended family was thrilled and my grandaunt had a fantastic time. She loved it! The food was good. I particularly enjoyed the chicken. I felt the beef was just okay. The service was excellent. I would highly recommend this facility for a large gathering. We had 125 guests.

We went for Sunday brunch with a bunch of wedding attendees. This place didn't disappoint. It's certainly not cheap, but all you can eat brunches normally aren't. The barbeque was good; I had brisket and a couple of ribs. The best thing I had was the chicken and waffles, which were pretty exceptional. The bottomless mamosas for 12 bucks is a good deal if you're drinking. Watching the planes land was a weird and pleasant experience, and if you have kids they'll love going out to the yard and checking out the planes. I'd recommend this for a group outting for sure, or even for a couple if you have the time to sit and really enjoy it and are game for eating your fill!

I've known about the proud bird for decades now, but even though this is something my close associates would think I would frequent, I haven't been as I had a feeling it wasn't anything special once I sat down. Since restaurants are all about the food, we can start there and this is where the three star rating comes in. However, leaving behind the food out of the mix and this place becomes much more magical. They have hundreds, maybe near a thousand or so photos of legendary aviation hero's, pioneers and companies. They have airplanes in exhibits both in their garden and out front. They also have/has a number of banquet halls to choose from and sits JUST beside 25L landing RWY where a giant window in the dining room lets you watch arrivals mere feet from your table. The Destination: The establishment is/was REALLY huge. I good city block from end to end. Ive never seen a restaurant really this big, lot wise. This place was developed 47 years ago and it seems to be locked in that era, which is a good thing. You can see it was meant to be an establishment, more than a restaurant tenant. They have a fountain, a fire place and a fish pond outside. Aircraft on sticks, some real, some replica. The Lobby Is dimly lit and the wood accents and homely old world decor give salute to the era in which it was intended. They have banquet halls all over the place. Upstairs, downstairs, next door, around the dining hall. Everywhere. Most were in use on the day I was there. They have a bit of a Museum out back where you can see some real and some replica aircraft, not to mention a spot where you can watch 747's pass 150 feet over your head. Location: Wait, how do I get there again? So although this establishment as I call it was a permanent fixture for a long time, its a bit off the beaten path, unless of course you drive a bus or work in Cargo. Its just across the street from the Cargo lot where a HUGE sign on a wall at the intersection letting you have arrived. Its on Aviation Blvd. this is a road just behind the runways on the south complex, mainly used to by buses and workers getting from one end of the airport to the other with nary a traffic light. Service: You can tell the staff are losing their jobs in the coming weeks and don't really need to perform to keep their job. I mentioned we had been waiting 20 minutes to place our order and all we got was a half hearted sorry. Food: Average at best, American fare. You can listen to the control tower with headsets next to the booth if you are seated by the window. They start you off with warm bread. I had beer cheese soup but it was much too thin. I also tried the Hummus and pita, but the pita was rock hard the hummus was dumped from some jar into a bowl. Museum: I did like the DC-3 and of course, you cant beat the location of this place for spotting planes, but some of the other aircraft on display were just mere mock ups. After tasting the food, you would think this was a museum with a restaurant...not the other way around. Its actually the latter. Goodbye Proud Bird. You did well. Your place is a true shrine to everything GOOD in aviation. You themed it perfectly. Now can we just get some decent grub :-)

Visited the Proud Bird last month for the first time since we had our wedding reception in one of their banquet rooms 40 years ago! While it has changed "a lot", the air museum, while small, is interesting and the Mile High Bar & Lounge is still a great place for drinks with floor to ceiling windows to watch landings at LAX; you are right there! Nice fire pit area also outside to watch planes land at LAX; fun way to spend a couple hours. We didn't eat at the food bazaar but selection looked pretty good.

1st time I've ever been here & REALLY enjoyed it! I had the (as usual) burger, but there are other choices - it's a bit cafeteria-style in that there is no table service/servers - one can get Thai, BBQ, burgers from 5 different kiosks not sure what to call them - prices are very reasonable and one can actually see/visit the WW2-era planes...there are others planes/displays, too...pretty decent experience! This is on Aviation Blvd close to LAX...

Excellent meal - and bonus is watching the planes come into LAX. We had a celebration dinner here. Most ordered the $35 special, which was delicious and included soup, steak and dessert. Filets were soft and tender, and the caprese salad was also a big hit at our table. Our check for 4 people was about $190, but we are here so infrequently, and it was a celebration. The waiter was so nice and generous. We love Proud Bird!

The Proud Bird is new and clean inside with buffet style eating and a great bar. Service at the bar is slow and the food is ok but expensive. The best part is the outside patio when the weather is good.

Close to the threshold of LAX runway 25L. Outside some nice old warbirds. Inside a lot of pictures of aviation history. Good food. Perfect for a coffee in the afternoon sitting on the terrace watching the airliners to and from LAX or for a nice dinner in the evening.

Great for family, kids, tourists, company parties etc. You enter the parking lots with life size planes as decor. Food court area offers Asian food to salad, pull pork and ribs. Lots of choices. While dining, you see commercial planes flying up and down. A wonderful view with great food. Worth a visit while near LAX.

The planes outside the restaurant were fun to look at but dinner watching the planes land was a trip back to the 60s. The restaurant was retro in design which I hope doesn't change a lot on the redo. The menu was classic with no surprises but a nice early bird three course meal for $20.95. Want to take my husband there since he is such an airplane buff and my grandson would enjoy it as well.

I loved the brunch and dinner selections. I have a feeling the new and improved Proud Bird won't be bring any of that back based on what I've read. It is now closed for almost the remainder of the year for remodeling.

The Proud bird serves great steaks, burgers, seafood and an amazing all you can "Eat" sunday Brunch and caters for all occasions be it business, pleasure, family or weddings etc. The view of planes landing a few hundred feet away at LAX is amazing, it also has several old planes in the Garden/car park and an outdoor area with tables/seating to enjoy the view of the planes landing. I have eaten here on numerous visits whilst in LA and have always really enjoyed the food, view and excellent staff who are always polite and friendly. Enjoy.

This place is a food court with a museum commemorating combat planes. It is located close to LAX. I saw the menu on their website before arriving so I knew this wasn't fine dining but it provided a variety of food - barbeque, Asian, Mexican, burgers, sandwiches and salads (and chicken and waffles). I had the tacos with chicken, pulled pork and brisket. They were very good despite being messy because they use only one flour tortilla and it falls apart easily. May want to use a fork and knife. My wife and niece had salads (chicken caesar and Chinese chicken) which they enjoyed. If you're looking for a different experience and are not looking for fancy food I highly recommend this place.

Went here with friends for lunch on a Saturday. Previously we'd been here when it was an upscale restaurant with tablecloths, stemware, and attentive servers. But it needed to change as their traditional clientele were dying off. Tried the BBQ. Got the idea that the staff would rather chat than come to the front to take our order. Then it too 10 minutes to get our food when it should be ready to be plated after ordering. All the food came on a tray. Had to return to ask about plates. The staff should have guessed that two people would be eating off the same tray. The staff seems to think that it would be a great place to work if it weren't for customers bothering them. Our friends order the chicken salad from another stand. Went it arrived it was just missing the chicken! Without the airplanes as part of the then place I would not return.

Glad to have re-discovered the Proud Bird after it's long closure. Best ever mushroom Pizza and very interesting selection of food nicely priced The place does need a dessert booth or ice cream parlor to make for a complete experience. I loved the very enthusiastic staff ( so rare nowadays) One other reason to go there is really for the plane spotting on the terrasse under the flight path of the runway 25 L ( where most of the cargo planes land) Free parking makes it even better. Nota that the proud Bird extend the happy hour to 7 days a week for travelers ( with a boarding pass for the same day at hand ) See you soon Proud Bird !

The restaurant is at the end of one of the runways at LAX. For plane enthusiasts it is a great place to eat. For food enthusiasts, not so much. The Caesar salad was pretty good, but the New York strip steak was not. A marbled steak is fine, but this thing was riddled with chunks of fat. It must have been the cheapest New York steak they could find. If I ever went back, I would try to the filet mignon or go to the fish or chicken.

My colleague and I were on our way to a business meeting but had time for lunch. As we drove by we noticed the aircraft displays and when I pointed out it was a restaurant my colleague almost did a ninety degree turn to pull in. She isn't one for aircraft but she knew I am. The building is a ranchero style and inside walls are cover with great photos of aircraft and pilots. Outside are numerous aircraft including an SBD Dauntless. The paint is somewhat faded but that's to be expected. The food is okay, I had a simple cheese burger which was tasty. Pricing is good, for LA. The maitre' de was exceptionally friendly but the waitress a bit cold and inattentive. I definitely recommend this place for families and aircraft buffs.

Hardly noticeable from the street, given there are a few military aircraft in the parking area and several in the bazaar outdoor seating area. For some reason we never really saw a sign out front or at the entrance to the building. Decent food with decent portions. Very good onion ring basket. Cuban sandwich was good, typically Cuban, but not great. I’ve had much worse attempts. Service was ordering from a counter over there, then pick up order over there once you pager goes off. A neat place with aviation memorabilia and static displays and the LAX runways to watch aircraft landing. I give it an extra start because of the coolness of this place. Dicks

I try to get to Proud Bird every time I'm in LA. I've never been disappointed with the food, the steaks have always been great. As a history / aviation buff, the setting is fabulous. Give it a try for someting out of the ordinary.

Great for aviation fans especially for children food ok plenty of choices right along side LAX good area for plane spotting. We had BBQ brisket-Salads-Burgers and a Sandwich all the food was very good we would go again

Went last night and started a tab at the bar. Bartender kept my card. We sat outside eating and when we were done I cashed out. This morning I had a fraud alert on my card. Several purchases in the LAX area. Since I had just arrived a few hours earlier it was the first and only purchase made with the card. Very very very upset. Never again will I leave my card where I cannot see who has it.

I have driven by here many times and finally stopped by to eat. Large open place with many food options but we went to the BBQ. The place is right by LAX and you can watch planes landing , taking off and taxing which for me is cool! The service was excellent and the food the same. I had the Brisket which was so tasty along with baked beans. Needless to say I was stuffed when we left. They have a large meeting room which that day was hosting an event so if you're looking for a cool place to have a meeting you might want to consider this one. Looking forward to the next visit.

Old school since 1967. My friend was celebrating his 50th birthday with a small group of friends. I've been here before the major remodel that took place. They ruined the old school vibe but the place resembles an awesome aviation museum with plenty of food options. Now the reason they get 3 stars. 2 Stars - Chicken & Waffles were a let down. The waffle was warm but hard, hard butter, and the chicken looked great but lacked flavor. Pass on this dish and order something else on the menu. 5 Stars - Bludso's BBQ is yummy delicious. 5 Stars - they messed up the original interior but the remodeled inside is aviation freakin' awesome and you get to see jets land outside the many picture windows along the long wall.

Our family went to the Proud Bird often for Sunday brunch for many years. When the quality of the food and service deteriorated, I stopped patronizing the place. Recently I heard the restaurant had undergone a face lift, so my husband and I decided to go there for Christmas Eve brunch, expecting to have a nice, relaxing meal like in the old days. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed. The food, without exception, was awful. The food that should have been hot was cold, the salad was limp and looked old, and the desserts were bland and flavorless. In addition, the paper plates and plastic utensils were a turn off. The $60.00, plus tax we were charged for the two of us was a total rip off. And why on earth does the receipt for payment, which must be made in advance, have a space on it for adding a tip?

Went for my usual steak dinner when im passing through LAX airport. This place is fantastic with great friendly service and a superb view of the aircraft landing a few hundred feet away at LAX. It's a pity i wasn't around on a sunday as they do a brilliant buffet ( soooo much food to choose from ) but hopefully next time !! If your into old photo's of famous people/ planes/ pilot's then spend sometime looking around the walls and lobby area after eating. Hope you enjoy as it's well worth the experience.

I had a great time at the Proud Bird! Great views of LAX south runway. Drinks are generous and affordable. The crowd was pleasant.

The food bazaar is a fun way to pick and choose between different cuisines. I had the brisket, jalapeno poppers, and potato salad from Bludso's, and the food did not disappoint. One distinct drawback are the business hours, since it is closed in the afternoon. Lunch is served Mon-Fri 11:30am-2pm, Sat 11am-3pm and dinner Sun-Thu 5pm-8pm, Fri & Sat 5pm-9pm. But there's an unlimited Bazaar pass available on Sundays from 11am-3pm, self-service all you can eat from a limited menu. Ample, free parking, reservations not needed.

The prices are still reasonable, and this is good eating. Maybe we liked the atlantic salmon because of just flying over the pacific for hours!

This is a very cool unique diamond in the rough. It’s essentially an outdoor kids playground, but you get to enjoy adult food and beverages purchased from the indoor “food court”….all while surrounded by aviation history, memorabilia and several actual old school decommissioned airplanes! Food options are basic and can take some time if it’s crowded, but it’s nice to just sit outside on the Astro-turf and relax as all the kids run around! VictorB

Restaurant located near LAX airport final approach runway on aviation BLVD. There for lunch which was a buffet. Overall food was good w/ good service as required. What made the visit was to see the aviation museum that has several airplanes outside and a large collection of aviation photos arranged on their walls by era--WW 1, WW 22, Vietnam, etc-- and Airplane Manufactures. Also had photo spread documenting the space program, Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, etc. Worth a visit if you are an aviation buff. Regular menu service in evenings w/ early bird specials.

I didn't know what to expect when I walked int to this restaurant. The parking lot is huge, and was packed when I drove in. The restaurant is situated right next to run way 25 L and R at LAX. You can see the large plans landing every few minutes. The building is large and seems endless. There are several large event rooms, and all of them seemed to have a holiday party inside of them. We were there for lunch, a birthday and a holiday party. We were seated in one of the main dining areas in the back overlooking the runway approach. The halls and rooms are filled with pictures of aviation history, with small stories on all the people and companies that made their mark on aviation history. Lockheed, Boeing, Ventas, Consolidated, Ryan, North American, Northrup, Grumman, etc... It was really neat to see all of this history. The food was also good. We ate at the buffet which was well stocked, and included roast beef bar, desert bar, taco bar, salad bar, and well provisioned entree set up. I really enjoyed the food, but I enjoyed the history more:) Great place.. Recommendations, repaint the planes outside, fix the parking lot, paint the buildings, and make the back area a little more park like.

The restaurant is located within a few minutes of LAX. Several mounted airplanes on the property. Pretty garden entrance with a small pond. Big floor-to-ceiling windows allow for a view of the grounds and jets, from LAX, taking off and landing. The food was very fresh; very good. and very reasonably priced. Service was a bit slow. Had to leave the table track down the server once. May have just been a bad day as they were not busy. I would eat here again.

It's going to impress everybody because it's no longer a restaurant and now offers different fast food outlets along with a fully licensed bar. We had burgers from one of the outlets. My double cheeseburger and my friends breakfast burger were real juicy and cost $10 each. We sat outside watching the planes and really enjoyed it.

I have been to the place so many times and I was very sad to hear it will close soon. If you have a chance - go visit before it is gone (11/21). I enjoyed mostly the happy hours sitting outside and watching the planes land at LAX. The staff is amazing and always try to accommodate everyone. Last time the manager mentioned there is still a chance the restaurant will continue and I keep my fingers crossed it will stay.

This is the only place you can see up close a plane land right at the runway. I visited in the day time. We a had a mini tour with the group I went with and had lunch there. They also have older planes park on the lawn outside. Would like to return in the evening to watch the planes land and have drinks.

I ate at the Proud Bird before taking a flight out of LAX. The choices of food was great, but the quality of the food was outstanding. In addition, the cost was surprising - a bacon cheeseburger for $5. I will make it a point whenever I fly in or out of LAX in the future to make my first/last meal at the Proud Bird.

They are going out of business - thanks to LAX - so get there fast to see all of the aerospace memorabilia and have a tasty meal.

A local monument to the great aircraft industry which was such an important part of the history of the surrounding area. Outside the building is a collection of old aircraft. The inside walls are covered with hundreds of photographs of historic aviation figures and aircraft. Window tables provide a great view of the aircraft on final approach to LAX only a few hundred feet away. As a restaurant - a fair selection of menu choices. Large portions. All our selections were good to very good, but not great. Service was a problem. Our waiter was obviously an old pro. He knew what to do and did it well, but would disappear for long periods of time. The process of getting our bill and getting it paid had us discussing at what point was it reasonable to assume the restaurant was not interested in getting paid.

The brisket was delicious, the collard greens were too salty to eat, and the fries were not hot or crispy, and bbq sauce was very spicy and salty and the same for the dip for the fries. It was very disappointing for $23.

We could see the aircraft from our hotel room on the 18th floor and walked there to find that it was a restaurant. Some at the front on plinths and others at the rear in the "garden". Fancied the Kalamari but it was only for the evening but the waiter(Boss?) said he would get some for us. It was not the best being overcooked and with too much coating.Having been to the Greek Islands many times we have perhaps been spoiled. We both had the buffet meal which was nothing special,my shepherds pie being very strange with a sausage coated in batter, like toad in the hole!!Cannot remember what my wife had but she enjoyed it. There were headphones on the shelf near our table and I found they had ATC for aircraft on final approach to the nearest runway which was only a few yards away.Worth a visit just for the aircraft and the landing aircraft.

The Proud Bird Restaurant is a nice to go for Sunday brunch or host an event for a group. Good selection of foods choices and a relaxing atmosphere. Good staff, very friendly. Easy to find and lots of parking spaces.

Friends and family celebrated my aunt's 80th birthday in one of their banquet rooms. The food, service, staff, and ambience was SUPERB. Would definitely book another event there.

Totally unorganized. Priced too high. SLOW Service. Food poor. Management does not give a damn. WILL NEVER GO BACK.

Took my kids here today for the first time and loved it. Burgers, pizza, beer, football on the TV's and Flightaware live feed on a big screen as well. It's basically av-geek nirvana. My kids loved the outdoor patio, static aircraft displays and watching airliners pass by on final approach to runway 2-5 Left. All-day happy hour today was great, with $4.50 local beers like Absolution and Santa Monica Brewing. I wish they carried El Segundo beer, but I really cannot complain. The place was clean and staff was really helpful. We will definitely be back!

The location is good, easy to get to. The staff is very friendly and the food is good. And you can also get a brief history of air planes...if you take the time to stop and read.

Years of delight at this restaurant with good food and service accompanied by historical aircraft overlooking LAX and wall decoration memorabilia attractive to many veterans & sightseers. It is unfortunate that the LAX area now incurs an additional 18% taxation.

I saw this place from the sky. It has a lot of charm, great runway view, extensive collection of aviation memorabilia. BUT, the entrees are a huge ripoff. 28 bucks for BAD banquet food, plus a 15% surcharge. At no point did the waiter ask why I ate so little of my meal. And the were out of the first three beers we ordered. I was so disappointed, we felt like we were robbed. The bar menu has three dollar tacos( two bucks during happy hour) If I had gone that route my review would be very different. This bird should not be proud of it's prices or entrees.

Great place to get a bite to eat about 7 mins from LAX. Someone has worked hard to create this nice museum with history for all of us to enjoy. Would return!

I wanted to get to the airport early in case traffic was backed up. I was very early but 5 minutes from my rental car drop off. I hate airport food so I stopped here. It was happy hour (between 4 -7) and there were some great selections. I went with their house Cabernet for $6 and then ordered clam chowder and a green salad. The chowder was thick and flavourful with lots of clams and the small dinner salad was huge with a great selection of veggies, nuts, frits and blue cheese. All very reasonable. I did look at some of the dinner options and they are a bit pricy but if the quality is as good as I experienced then well worth it.

It has been several years since I last ate at the Proud Bird restaurant, virtually on the grounds of LAX. I was to meet with a colleague upon her arrival at LAX and needed to select a restaurant where we could eat and handle some business. Knowing the ideal location of the Proud Bird, I selected this restaurant and hoped that the food would merit my selection. I'm pleased to say that our lunch was ideal. I had the French Dip sandwich and my colleague had a Club sandwich. Both were excellent. I was especially impressed by the attention paid to us - as well as other patrons - by our male waiter. He exhibited just the right amount of attention without being overbearing. If your plans call for you to select a lunch location in the LAX area, you can't beat the Proud Bird. Also, if you're an old-time aviation buff, you'll also enjoy looking at a vast array of vintage airplanes on display outside the restaurant.

I have long wanted to visit the Proud Bird, both in its previous guise and in its current incarnation, but we live in South Orange County so it’s a long trip for a meal. My brother in law was visiting and he, like me, is an aviation buff (with 15,000 hours) and we decided to make the trip. We arrived at 6:45 (Thursday) My wife and I both ordered the Salt Crusted Short Rib plus an order of the Spicy Texas Red Hot Beef Links to share. They apologized that they were out of the Red Hots. My Brother in law ordered the Rotisserie Chicken. They were sold out but suggested Smoked Chicken (which I hadn’t seen on the menu). He went with that, then they discovered they were out of it. My wife asked, “What do you have?” They said it would be easier to list the items they didn’t have and did so. I forget what my brother in law ordered, but they discovered they were out of that too. We felt like we were in Monty Python’s Cheese Shop! Now the piece de resistance: They came back and announced that they only had one Short Rib. Now, bear in mind we were the only people at the counter, so it’s not like they were selling out of items while we were trying to order. And they then discovered they had exactly zero Short Ribs. We left and will not return – ever! Ridiculous!

This was my second time here- this time with the kids. So glad we came! Kids loved seeing all the airplanes around the property and all the historical artifacts around the restaurant. We got a table by the window and they were completely entertained watching the planes and listening to the headphones they have for them to pretend to be at the radio control. Great kids menu - both with food and with activities to occupy them. Food and drinks were delicious. As a military brat, I especially enjoyed the old school Officers Club vibe this place had- it feels like home. A great stop.

Classmates from the Venice High School graduating class of 1954 had a luncheon reunion at the Proud Bird. Our entree choices were beef brisket, salmon and chicken. The food was excellent as was the service. This venue is highly recommended for this type of event.

Great ambience. Awesome location. Food was very good and excellent service. Would not hesitate to visit again.

We just happened upon the Proud Bird after landing at LAX and wanted to catch up with friends. What a delightful time we had the afternoon we shared here. We had a fantastic lunch. I had a club sandwich with fries that were very hot and freshly made. The other people in our party had the gourmet buffet that was to die for. The décor, the lovely view of all of the vintage aircraft and the planes landing in the distance were an added bonus. A lovely afternoon!

Nice restaurant with good food, a lot of plane history and plane spotting. Staff where pleasant and good.

Cool food hall with aviation theme. It’s great for kids as it has a large play area with plenty of seating for parents. There are various counters that you can order from (you pay first) including tacos, fried chicken, and more. We tried the chicken and waffle and order of tacos. There’s a self-service water station. Plenty of seating indoors and it looked like they had areas for private group events too. The food was solid and it was a convenient spot to go to after picking up my friend from LAX.

This hidden gem of a restaurant is tucked in directly in front of the runways at LAX and serves up a very enjoyable brunch. The parking is great (and free) and the grounds are green and well maintained. But the best part, according to my grandson, were all of the wonderful WWII era plane, watching the big planes landing, as well as the interesting tributes to the flight crews and squadrons of the era, including the Tuskegee Airman and General Dolittle's. The atmosphere is friendly and fun.

The Proud Bird is a traditional vintage old school restaurant. A real LAX treasure! The beer cheese soup ($6) is a pleasant app. Lunch comes with generous sides and the food quality is very good. The prices are not too bad but there is a local 15% surcharge that is not a gratuity. Situated along two runways, you get to see planes landing at LAX up close, headphones are available to monitor the LAX tower. Fun for kids. All in all, well worth a try

One of the most frequented and recommended restaurants within our immediate area. This is a trip down memory lane from the music to the interior history and the old aircraft around the entry and back lawn. Excellent menu will full bar service. Can't wait for the remodel to be completed so they open to the public again!

We had the buffet. Restaurant was clean. Waiters were nice. Food was fair, dry and tasted packaged. They also had carving station and pasta station. Pasta was made to order. And was better tasting. People ordered off the lunch menu. Looked better. They have a limited menu for lunch. The view is fantastic. Can sit and watch an active runway. Also had headphones to hear the tower

The Proud Bird food court is almost directly under the flight path for aircraft landing at LAX, so you can sit back enjoy your food and watch the jets land. (Pro tip: Download the Flightradar24 app so you can ID all the aircraft and see where they're coming from etc.) A couple of us had BBQ, another had a rice bowl. Everyone rated their food highly. There's an outdoor seating area with lots of vintage aircraft on display.

This has a feel of old LA. Be warned the website says they may be closing in late Nov 13 forever due to LAX runway expansion. But in the meantime, this is recommended. Largely a campy steakhouse with a decent cocktail menu. You might see Max Cherry at the bar, or Samuel L Jackson hanging out over a Mai Tai, but if you do, Tarantino is probably filming from close by. This is a cool place to see, and a throwback to another time. I sincerely hope this restaurant does not close, because LA would be less cool if it does. Prime rib, big baked potato, filet, all very tasty. Haute cuisine? Not a chance. Cool, decent place to grab a very solid meal and a well made cocktail? Yes.

I used to work near LAX so I had been to the Proud Bird a couple times before it was renovated. So I was very surprised when I walked in because it's totally different. I like the atmosphere with all of the aviation memorabilia and I like the openness with all the windows overlooking the planes. There are a variety of food stations and I had a Bludso's brisket sandwich and it had a good taste but it was a little on the fatty side. My friend ordered onion rings from the sandwich bar and they were really good. My other friend ordered the chicken from Bludso's and she said that it was delicious. And, my other friend ordered some cornbread from Bludso's and it was also very good.

The Proud Bird was recently renovated and opened up as a food 'Bazaar' - better described as a fast food court like you would find at the mall. There are 5 or 6 different food concepts, however they are not full restaurant menus with huge variety within each concept. Cashiers take your order for all the different concepts, so you can order BBQ from one concept and a salad from another from the same cashier. We ordered 2 beef brisket sandwiches, 1/4 lb of brisket meat, a side salad, a side of mac and cheese, as side of red potatoes and two soft drinks. The total was $58. Our food was cold because there is not coordination in collecting the order. Super confusing and very inefficient. The brisket was very, very fatty and the sandwich menu said it came with caramelized onion, however they were raw. Caesar salad was comparable to a fast food restaurant. They are only open 3 hours for lunch and 3.5 hours for dinner, closing at 8:30 pm. How can any restaurant stay in business with inefficiency, mediocre (at best) food and 6.5 hours a day with 20 workers on the floor and only 15 or so customers to serve? The location and concept are great. I hope a real restaurant operator comes in to save the day soon, or it will go out just like the last version.

I recently had dinner at the Proud Bird before attending a concert at the Forum. Diners are met with airplanes on display in the parking area. The interior layout affords every table views of incoming planes. For aviation fans, request a table at the window - they include headphones that allow you to hear the control tower at LAX. While our dining experience was pleasant enough, and the restaurant is perfectly situated for a meal before attending an event at the Forum, improvements could be made. We noticed a card on our table touting the restaurant's water conservation measures, and yet we were summarily all served water! And it was only after our entrees were served that a bread basket made its appearance. While the bread was fresh and tasty, it would have been nice to enjoy while waiting for our meals. Dinner was nothing fancy despite the prices. My husband's fish and chips were somewhat greasy. My chicken scaloppine was better, and I appreciated the Chinese broccoli addition. The Cesar salad and clam chowder were uninspiring. There was a mix of patrons, including couples and families. We saw a bridal party heading toward the ballroom. There is also a gallery of historic aviation photos. This might be a nice place to take out-of-town guests. Just don't expect fine dining.

Went to this restaurant while on business travel. I got blackened Mahi-Mahi, which was very good. The walls are covered with lots of aviation history memorabilia, and the yard has historic aircraft. You could spend hours looking at all of this, which my group would have liked to do, except the service was quite slow, and one of us needed to get to the airport. I will probably go back again if I am in the area, but will wander about between courses.

There is a positive: the remodeling is very cool. Well decorated with large windows to watch planes land at LAX. They have a lot of historical information throughout the dining area on the Tuskegee airmen. Very interesting and well done. But that's it folks. The system they have for ordering and getting your food is horrible. But what is worst is the food is awful. Small selections, small portions, cold food thats supposed to be hot and everything was tasteless. The staff in the food court was at least friendlier than the two ladies with an attitude in the bar. Any reason to go back?.......NONE.

Three of us decided to meet here not realizing the tremendous change. We were graduates from UCLA years ago. We were shocked and saddened to find a food court and uncomfortable seating. We were immediately reminded that this seemed like Sproul Hall, our dorm! We had more food choices there. The food choices are limited now...not a lot of really healthy choices besides a few mundane salads, a few sandwiches and some soup. Now you serve yourself and eat with the small dishes served on airline flights with plastic utensils. Yes, you are supposed to be transported to think you are on a plane eating plane food. Agreed, it is like airline food, and the chairs are just as uncomfortable as plane seats, but much harder! We remember the Proud Bird when it was a great sit down restaurant with silverware, linens and real napkins and a decent menu. The Real Proud Bird is dead...a great loss to the community!

Fantastic view! Buffet had decent variety of food selections, including, different types of salads, steak and BBQ.

It is a restaurant with museum of air history with some real old airplanes out doors. Special rooms for famous pioneers like McDonald Douglas, General Dolittle, Chenalts, etc. Service and food are quite good too.

Ok, it's not the luxury white table cloth service but there is now a variety of foods and a nice bar. Inside you can watch the planes landing at LAX while enjoying your meal. This is especially great for families with kids who love planes. Now a great place to stop on the way to or from the airport for a quick bite. I have attached some of the menu options.

If you love planes, this is your place. There's a ridiculous variety of food available, and everyone in our group was happy with their meal. If you've got kids, there's a playground, and if you like watching planes, the place is also kind of a playground for adults - be sure to bring your camera.

I saw this place from the air flying in from Amarillo in Texas. Had a few hours to kill before my flight to Australia so decided to check it out. It is a collection of aircraft from world War one World War II and the Cold War arranged around a set of large club rooms which have been converted into a buffet a restaurant. Food was good and good value with lots of friendly families dining the Sunday afternoon I visited. But really, I was there for the aircraft which I had seen from the air flying in. it has been owned by the same family for a little more than 50 years. I think the fathers passion for aircraft has perhaps not been matched by his sons, judging by the state of repair of the aircraft on display, never the less, it was very impressive and I enjoyed my visit enormously. A great way to kill a few hours when in LA and waiting for a flight from LAX!

As part of an international trip, we ventured out from our hotel following what appeared to be an enticing menu. The Proud Bird gets its name from the vintage, WWII aircrAft on display on the restaurant grounds. It is next to LAX after all. After looking at a few of the airplanes, we went inside and everything was downhill from there. The diverse and e passive menus is actuAlly a compilation from four or five different food prep stations and one, yes, only one register. To order, you stand in line at the one register and hope they get it right. With order in, I watched a the person fixing my barbecue sliced some meat, dished up the collard greens then left ... The Caesar salad is someone else's job, somewhere else in the building. After 15minutes of no coordination, I was presented with an average looking Caesar salad and asked "is this yours"? I had no idea if it was mine or someone else's. I was then told that the barbque would be right up. Remember, I saw the tray sitting on the side for 15 minutes. I asked how would I know its ready and the handed me a pager (who h never went off). Then they noticed me holding the salad, put 2 & 2 together and told my tray was ready. The greens were slightly bitter and cold, the barbeque was cold as was the sauce, but check, the salad was a little cool. I watched as others went through a similar process for pizza, sandwiches and other menu items. My advice is to steer clear of this place. Reasons include 1) poor food quality and presentation, 2) poor customer service, and (3) very high prices/low value. I visited the place around 5:30 pm with my wife. Stay clear

I was excited to see this place reopened. Had a good lunch here. It would be a good option for a big party with many different dining needs. Good poke option. Great salad, mac and cheese, great BBQ. Bar looked very good. Really enjoyed the ambiance. Great light, comfortable seating options. Of the 4 people in our party, 2 orders were wrong. I think they just need a bit of time to work out the kinks in their system. I would go back here, however.

Newly reopened. Waiters were great, attended to all request quickly. The food was delicious, seasoned well. Served buffet style, all you can eat. We were in the largest ballroom. Ample space for about two hundred people. I have attended and held events there many times. Close to 105 and 405 Freeways. One of the best things besides their large variety of good food is their free parking lot adjacent to the building. They have several rooms that you can reserve for events depending on the number of guest. You can also have lunch or dinner there solo or with friends, buffet style I believe.

Having to spend a number of hours before a red-eye flight back to DC from LA, my son suggested the Proud Bird. It was pure delight in that it has such a rich sense of history, and there are real-life model aircraft outside. But you are on one of the main approach runways to LAX so you are constantly seeing plans land - and there is little to no noise from the real jets! We both had a salad to start which was both fresh and large, and very good. We also (falter like son) ordered their prime rib - which turned out to be excellent. The waiter we had was not as attentive as I would have liked, but he was part of the charm I guess, as it appeared he had worked there for a long time. Other than that, I would definitely go back for the sheer ambience and sense of aviation history - let alone absolute convenience to the airport.

Arrived for lunch to an extremely minimalist lunch menu of extremely overpriced reheated frozen food fare. Service utterly non-attentive for the expense. Food was at fast food level... Actually, we would have been better off going to fast food joint. An utter ripoff. I just kept apologizing the whole time to my diagruntled family who just flew in an wanted a decent meal. A little over $25 per person for an iced tea and crappy burger with frozen fries.

This place is to die for. The decor, the ambiance, and food quality. The kitchen is small and you can often see your meal being prepared in the open kitchen. The prime rib is to die for and is one of the best I have ever had in my life. The planes all throughout the premises are a good reminder of where our flight technology came from to where it is today. Come here for a special meal, it is worth it.

The Proud Bird is a long standing restaurant with great view of LAX. It has great aircraft displays as well as many aviation pictures. Welcoming staff and great service. I enjoyed an extended conversation with my waiter, I decided on a lighter meal. I ordered the mixed green salad with salmon. The meal and wine were excellent and price was reasonable.

Located just outside LAX, this restaurant celebrates flying inside and out. Happy hour, M-F 3 to 7pm, a Sunday champagne brunch, and a themed lunch buffet M-F provides variety. Although a bit faded, the aircraft exhibited outside and framed photos and memorabilia are worth browsing. This is not a place to "grab-and-go." Prices are somewhat high - but dining within sight of LAX's taxiways and within a few hundred yards of a landing approach is entertaining. Also, I was hungry after several hours of travel from Chicago.

Proud Bird is a destination restaurant. Try to get a table by the window so that you can watch the planes coming in for landings at LAX. The staff and menu are children friendly, but the adult fare is fabulous. Be sure and take time to go outside and inspect the collection of small planes.

Well, it was a lot less than we expected after all the hype and time waiting for a favorite place to reopen. No one talks to you or pays any attention to you even when you enter--what was all that about a boarding pass??? Had to walk around a few times to figure things out. The food court was a mini version of most mall food courts--pizza, burgers, Asian, bbq. Not much selection. We always had great meals at the old Proud Bird. This is really just a cafeteria. Food was OK, not great. The dining room doesn't look remodeled--sort of an aircraft theme wallpaper on one side, and all the old photos are gone. Not a friendly place to go anymore. The view of planes landing was all that was still interesting. We were disappointed. Old was much better.

We hosted a large event at Proud Bird yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the location, ambiance, and food. If you are an aviation enthusiast or just want a great place to watch airplanes with great food and drinks, this is the spot. The server taking care of our group was so amazing. I can't say enough great things about Proud Bird!

This is one of the largest, best laid out brunch I had ever had the joy of seeing. It is delicious, prepared by pros who have been in the biz' for years, and displayed in a restaurant full of ambiance inside and out. We loved the various aircraft to feast our eyes on also. Quite an experience being so close to an airfield to see planes flying in also. It is wonderful for all ages.

As a veteran, the Proud Bird displayed the pride of a nation. Great food and the weekend brunch is outstanding!

Having heard of this place for years it's happy to finally give it a whirl after an evening airport pickup. My mom, age 86, loved all the old memorabilia. We all enjoyed sitting at the window watching the planes come in. Our food was all very tasty and the service was friendly & efficient. Salads were beautifully presented. My rib-eye steak was generous in size (half went home) and cooked perfectly to my request. Desserts yummy. Would love to return & try the brunch.

I love the ambiance of this place! The memorabilia is great although a bit heavy and disproportionate on some flying aspects (i.e. Tuskegee display). That may be a bit harsh as it is more of a themed restaurant/bar than museum. They are also performing renovations at the time of this review (Nov 2018). At any rate, highly recommend anyone take a moment to enjoy this spot!

We hadn't been here for quite awhile, so we decided to try it out again on our way out of town. We were pleasantly surprised. I had the prime rib and it was great. I started with the french onion soup and it was actually one of the best I've had in a long time. Service was friendly and efficient and prices were reasonable. We were here at night so it was a little more difficult getting a good look at the landing planes. I would suggest coming during the day or even sitting outside. It's a great experience and they have planes on the ground that you can walk around and look at.

This restaurant is such a detour from the ordinary with their collection of planes on display outside to the many photos the comprise a great deal of aviation history. The food is very good and the service was excellent from Tony, who added some color to the history. We look for excuses to go here when picking up guests at the airport and before dropping someone off for a flight. I would say not to be missed especially for aviation and/ or history buffs.

I visited October 5th in the afternoon for an event. Walking up to this place, I didn't know what to expect. The staff was professional. It was buffet style and the food was decent. The aroma of the bbq hits you when you walk in. So, my family member had to buy some with me sampling from his plate. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. The drinks were nicely prepared as well. I'm sure I'll visit again.

We met friends here right after landing on a Thursday evening. Our food was so good we planned our departure around getting here for lunch! The Salt Crusted Short Ribs, Beef Brisket and Loaded Tots are not to be missed! We will definitely be back the next time we fly in!!

If your an aviation enthusiast or just have a couple hours to kill before dropping off the rental car at LAX airport, this is a MUST STOP and see location, the grounds are covered with vintage real aircraft from WW1 up to the Vietnam Era, WWII birds tower above the entrance grounds with the world famous P51 Mustang greeting you at the main entrance schemed with the Tuskeegee Airmen squadron colors, to many other WWII aircraft, You will have plenty of free parking and a nice beautifully laid out display throughout the property with aviation legends to aircraft manufactures depicted throughout the entire building, Just something any aviation / Aerospace person should experience at least once. Myself I have dined at this location at least five times if not more and I never seem to tire of looking at the authentic artwork on the walls, photographs of legendary aviators and aircraft. Then the food, enjoy the lunch buffet that is 100% certain to appeal to everyone's taste in your party from the hearty meal lover down to the full vegetarian, I myself have enjoyed many dishes at this location from Mexican fajitas to salmon, to lasagna to grilled chicken, full pasta bar cooked to order also included as well as a carving roast beef board. This is a neat dining experience, SO I recommend taking a couple hours out of your busy day prior to flying out of LAX and find this location at 11022 Aviation Blvd, 310-670-3093, You will not be disappointed I assure you. DID I MENTION YOU may be seated next to a window overlooking the court yard decorated with vintage aircraft staged with gated walkways for your viewing pleasure. Not to mention you may get a window seat and dawn a pair of head sets to listen to the control tower vector approach aircraft while you dine and view them landing at LAX.

The food is very good, went to a catered buffet their salmon was excellent. But the planes rock, World War One and beyond aircraft all on static display. Inside the restaurant, walls are filled with pictures and displays of military/civilian aviation history. Also your right near the landing strip at LAX, this place is great fun.

OMG the food here is to die for. We both had the barbeque which just melted in your mouth. You have to pay at a central point then go to the selected counter to get your food as they do have a good choice. There is a play area outside for kids and a great view of the aircraft landing at LAX. There are also a few aircraft on display many are replicas but fun for the kids as well as adults.

Nice happy hour, excellent BBQ. and a view of planes landing VERY close by. Lots of them. Best is at sunset when the landing lights are on and you can see 4 or 5 lined up in the distance.

We went to this restaurant with four children and five adults for father's day. There are vintage planes from WWII and WWI on display and memorials to the Tuskegee airman among others. There is fenced outdoor space for kids to run around with some supervision. The buffet was extensive and included Mexican food, omelettes, meats , prime rib, salads, a chocolate fountain, banana foster, seafood and more. Champagne was included as were soft drinks. There were box juices and milk also available for children. Children received coloring bags with stickers. Everybody ate well, and the waiter kindly did not charge us for the four year old twins who each ate one marshmallow. The bill came to around 300 bucks with tip. Definitely worth it for a large family meal with kids.

I have always wanted to explore this place and decided to recently go one night when a family member had a late night flight out. This little hidden gem is directly off LAX airport and nestles right where a majority of the planes come in for landing. We had already eaten prior to our stop in, so we decided to hit the lounge bar instead of dinner. The view offers all glass windows overlooking LAX. If you want even closer feel an outdoor patio is a great spot to hear and feel the action. Just beyond the patio there is a small memorabilia display of old fighter planes. We eventually decided to have a couple appetizers, we chose the hummus/ pita bread following the bruschetta, both which were excellent and tasted fresh & very home made. Dimas, our waiter/bartender was awesome! He was on point, very friendly and informative about the restaurant and it's history. The three things they apparently offer that I look forward to my next visit... 1) Brunch- Sunday's offering Champagne and many varieties of food around the world to choose from 2) Happy Hour -Mon-Fri 4-7pm (I believe) 3)Lastly,the dinner tables had headphones for those eating to catch a chance to listen in on radio tower pilot conversation All in all, a great value for the experience! A must at least once!

This is not just a place to sit and have a quiet dinner. This place is suitable for large functions. Work related functions. Companies Christmas party kind of spot.. Went for my company’s Christmas gathering. Nice place, cool airplane decor outside... Service is extremely slow when there’s a lot of people. As far as food is concerned. The bar is fully loaded and pretty much that’s where the party end up being, by the bar. Lol..

This Restaurant is located right next to a landing strip at LAX Los Angeles Airport and the planes land nearly feet from you. This place has great food and view. The Restaurant also has old planes in their back yards that are available for your viewing. Like old military and passenger planes this place has it.

We stopped at this food court type venue with a large bar on a Friday evening at 7:30 pm. Even though there was a couple of large parties going on at that time, we found ample parking (free) and table seating near the bar or outside patio. We ordered the tri-tip and half chicken from Bludso’s BBQ menu. The extra’s we ordered were minestrone soup, salad, apple cobbler and chocolate brownie. Tastes were OK but I expected more expertly cooked BBQ meat from a Food Network promoted restaurant. Venue is interesting with historical aviation displays and airplanes.

Stopped in at recommendation of my hotel for an early dinner with a biz associate. Excellent prime rib, service was excellent and never rushed. Good drinks too!

Was in the area for work and stopped by to get some BBQ at the famous Bludsoes I got a variety plate ribs pork and brisket. The combo was great and canes with beans and coleslaw. Had way to much food but it was worth it. Can’t wait to go back.

Friendly greeter promised just a 5 minute wait for dinner. Finally seated after fifteen minutes only to find the whole place pretty much empty...during peak Christmas season. Squirrelly, though pleasant waiter, seems to misunderstand around 50% of the order. Best: the garlicky eggplant dip. Shrimp: somewhat rubberized. Prices seemed a bit low for the area. Great view of landing jets at LAX. And the old planes certainly add to the ambience. Caution: place is closing at New Years for an extended period of renovation.

Picture this: sitting at a table covered with a linen cloth... sipping a great glass of Pinot Grigio, dipping baked pita into a glorious spinach/artichoke dip (really, really good!) while watching a steady stream of planes from around the world land just a few yards away. You overlook actual planes (P-38, T-6 and many others) while you dip into a fettucini with shrimp and scallops that have been cooked to perfection against an interior backdrop of pictures of Clay Lacey and Chuck Yeager and many other stars in aviation history. Just an all around great experience. You feel like you have stepped back in time, in a good way. Great service by nice people in an unusual setting. I really enjoyed the venue and the meal!
Can see airplanes flying to and from LAX
I always take guests and family here when they are visiting. It's right on the boarder of the airport and flight path. You can see airplanes flying through and the building itself is a aviation museum. The service and good is above average and the price is reasonable.
