No river view any longer

By Meander06532785546 |

The food is excellent, but that is a very old photograph of the restaurant. They moved and they no longer have a river view.

Delicious, super good atmosphere, I would repeat without a doubt!

By jocelyn m |

The atmosphere of this place is incredible, and the food even more so!!!!! If you go as a couple, don't miss the experience of sitting at the bar near the chef, everyone who works there is super friendly but the experience of seeing each dish that comes out and the dynamics of the restaurant itself was wonderful to me. Extremely recommended.

Amazing!

By Molly082082 |

Went for lunch on a Saturday. The food was amazing! Try the Pork Belly, tortellini and bald goat cheese. You will not be disappointed!!

Wow! Must Try!

By EMT_Chris |

Sat as a 7 top (with reservation) on a Monday afternoon. So glad we fot in as the place got packed. After eating there, I know why. We ordered family style with share plates. Everything they served was made to order and set on table when done. We had paparadelli and ragu, ravioli, ribs, pork chop, tuna tartar, goat cheese smear and beet salad. The flavors and blends were outstanding. Full bar and wine menu. Enjoy!

Standout!

By Susan G |

Hands down the best restaurant of our trip. Service was excellent. Space is a bit tight and it is moderately noisy but this would not keep us away. Food was amazing. We were in Chicago for a short trip my only regret is that I didn’t eat there a second night before going home. We plan to return and will definitely be back.

One of Chicago's top-rated restaurants

By Taylor B |

Maybe it was the name that turned me off. Or the fact that the Purple Pig is a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant that emphasizes the flavors of Greece, Italy and Spain but doesn't feature Branzino on its menu. Instead, it offers Chicago-style hot dogs. Well, my wife and I finally decided that as long as the Purple Pig is rated among the finest restaurants in Chicago, we ought to find out why. Located at 444 North Michigan Avenue, it is the brainchild of Jimmy Bannos Jr., the chef and co-owner who is a James Beard Award recipient. Bannos, a native of Chicago and a fourth generation restauranteur, founded the Purple Pig in 2009, was named the James Beard "rising star chef" in 2014. And his restaurant has been a recipient of the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand Award since 2011. Open fro 11 to 9 Sunday through Wednesday and 11 to 10 Thursday through Saturday, it features a Mediterranean cuisine with an open kitchen and a chic setting. Branzino and Chicago-style hot dogs aside, the Purple Pig doesn't disappoint. We started with prosciutto-wrapped dates, bread on the table with bacon and maple syrup butter and sea salt and Caesar salad with Romaine lettuce, maple bacon, croutons and pecorino cheese. For her entree, my wife chose salmon with garlic, spinach, cauliflower puree and mushrooms. I opted for filet mignon with purple potato puree, pearl onions, mushrooms, bone marrow butter and red wine reduction. For dessert, we shared tiramisu with Kahlua, amaretto and mascarpone and apple crostata with vanilla and cinnamon gelato. If you haven't been to the Purple Pig yet, you are encouraged to make a reservation.

The Best!

By Chris A. |

The Purple Pig is a must for us whenever we visit Chicago. Every dish that we've had has been delicious. My husband and I had lunch there recently and shared the chicken skewers, roasted carrots, and grilled broccoli. Who knew that vegetables could be such a treat!

The Purple Pig is rarer than a purple squirrel

One of the best restaurants in Chicago. Love the Duck Croquettes with Provolone, Apple, Eggplant Puree + Kimchi. Also enjoy some Pork Liver & Bacon Paté with Fried Sage + Grape Mostarda and the Foie Gras Terrine with Blueberry Jam + Hazelnut Paste. An award winning restaurant.

Right downtown, close to what you want to see/do

By Dave G |

Interesting dishes, bustling dining room. Ate lunch on a hot day, sharing several plates. It was perfect. Service was attentive but not rushed.

Fantastic

By Laura Z |

After hearing fantastic reviews about this place, we had been eagerly waiting for an opportunity to try it out while in town. Finally, we had the chance to have lunch there, and it exceeded our expectations. The restaurant offers a delightful selection of small plates that are perfect for sharing, and every dish we ordered was outstanding. The whipped Feta with toast was a particular standout, and the Halibut was simply amazing. We also enjoyed the sardines and a delectable mozzarella item. Not a single complaint can be made about this place, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Delicious

By Adriana Paulina C |

Whatever you order is definitely a guarantee that it will be delicious. The seasoning is super rich and truly a very pleasant experience. Tip: grilled broccoli are the best in the world

Great food but very loud

By DriveAllNight |

Food was excellent. We did not share dishes and we were served about 10 minutes apart which did not sit well with us. Very very loud.

Nice Revisit

By mommat426 |

Had not been to the restaurant I years and happened to walk by it on Michigan Ave. The hostess, lovely young lady, was kind enough to find us a table on what was a very busy eve. Waitress was nice and helpful. Our drinks were very good and we ordered Whipped Ricotta and bread and baby squash sauté as an appetizer, both very good. My husband had the pork belly, very tasty and I had the tuna tartare also very good. Glad to find this place still has high quality service and food.

Fantastic!

By Rick S |

Great food, great service, reasonable prices. Found the restaurant by accident, and very glad we did! Didn't have reservations, but stopped in anyway. The man at the desk gave us a time, and said when we were done with the river tour to come, even if early, which we were. Seated right away. Had duck croquettes (good), octopus (best I've ever eaten), and pork neck bone ricotta gnocchi (fantastic!) We had a slice of pizza for lunch, otherwise we'd have tried more items. Just another reason to return to Chicago again Thanks for a great meal!

great tapas fare. super tasty

By Curtis M |

Super good food. kind of a casual setting, (which is a good thing) but the food was really great. lots of good vegan options. the beets! the tuna tartare! wow. we have gone twice now and would go back in a heartbeat.

Nice pork ribs

By yss97 |

We went when the restaurant had just opened so there was no queue. The food comes out dish by dish, so the recommendation is that you share each dish as it comes out, rather than waiting for individual dishes. Interesting idea. We had the pork ribs which were nice and tender and well- marinated. Just a minor point, for a place called Purple Pig, there could be perhaps more starters with porcine ingredients, although the mains had a wide choice.

Wait for a table and you won't regret it

By kcdenman |

Be prepped for a wait but it's worth it. We sat at the counter facing the food prep which is all that was available when we showed up, but it was so fun watching the plates go out. All the food was tremendous, especially the bread options!

Big flavors, lively room

By Geanina M |

Stopped in for lunch after the architecture boat tour and it was an easy walk over from Michigan Ave. We ended up sharing a bunch of small plates, and everything tasted bold and really well done, especially the Greek cornbread and the pig’s ear. Service was quick and on it, even though the place was packed and a bit loud, the staff still kept things moving. We almost skipped dessert, but the pistachio crème brûlée was the kind of thing you talk about later.

Good food but loud and crowded

By Chandra P |

Had to eat at the bar when in business in Chicago. I could barely fit in the chair due to so many seats too close to each other. Could barely hear the bartender to order food. Overall food was above average and reasonable in price. Would try again if I could get a table but the experience this time was subpar.

Amazing experience

By RODRIGO Oliveira |

This place is out of this world. This is my second time coming here, and the experience was even better. The food, service, and environment blew my family away. I must place when you are in Chicago. Congratulations to Purple Pig’s team.

Miss Piggy loves this place!

By Escape18968593662 |

Great atmosphere, prompt friendly service, waitress extremely cordial, food prompt & excellent, highly recommended

Outstanding Food

By NinaLeeYYC |

Outstanding food. The idea is to order plates to share so it would be fun to do with a group. We ended up with 4 between the two of us plus shared a dessert. The pork belly is to die for.

Do better

By dollzs |

Food was excellent! I had the ribs, broccoli, tuna tartar, n other dishes that were excellent. Would of had a better experience if we had a better waiter. Our waiter was Iliya. Since the moment we got there he had a sour face, making faces, rolling eyes . Just making us feel like we were a nusiance. We asked for a refill on tea. He did not bring it until I asked for it. But before he brought it, he said "I placed the order" Then we saw him go up to the bar grab the tea and bring it to us. Totally ruined our eating experience.

Magnificent Mile Dinner

By Melvin Udall |

My family and I had dinner at the Purple Pig and it was everything we expected. All the dishes we ordered from the appetizers (roasted bone marrow, Greek cornbread) to the main entrees (maple wood smoked aged pork chop, filet mignon) were all cooked to perfection and simply exceptional. The pork chop was my favorite as it was juicy, tender with a nice sear crust. Great ambience and great music playing in the background. Their bar offered some very tasty drinks. Their staff was very friendly and receptive, but our waiter (Antobeli) was the best. Gave us suggestions on food and drinks. Great guy who made our dinner even better. Can’t wait to go back!

One of Chicago’s finest

By Deborah B |

We missed this wonderful restaurant during the height of the pandemic but it still fires on all cylinders. Each dish we ordered was outstanding, beautifully executed and memorable. Were locals and think the only reason more locals vs. tourists don’t frequent this gem is the lack of convenient parking. Order any vegetable in addition to protein and you’ll be in hog heaven.

Incredible amazing!!!

By Ena A |

Amazing restaurant! Valentino was great very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. This is my second time having lunch and I will definitely come back. I can say without a doubt, it has being one of the best restaurants I’ve visited in Chicago

Love me some Purple Pig!

By drpclarke |

We went here for the first time about ten years ago..and we were so happy to have the opportunity to come back to Chicago and go to the PURPLE PIG! The menu has grown and is very eclectic. I wanted everything but went back to what I had before: the kale w/pig ears and the bone marrow. Servings were bigger than I remember, but just as tasty. Service is quick. Food is wonderful. What's not to lose? GIVE IT A TRY (and get the bone marrow!! Nom nom!!)

Next Level

By MIbeachgirl |

The Purple Pig has once again won my heart! It has improved to even a next level of great. The staff were professional and attentive. The food was delicious. The restaurant was full, but the atmosphere was not compromised. This is a Chicago favorite for me.

Very Nice Lunch Spot!

By Andy M |

My wife and I stopped in for lunch after going on the architecture boat tour, the restaurant was within easy walking distance. We started with the Greek cornbread, which was excellent, I had the mushroom risotto with sea scallops, and my wife had the chicken thigh kebobs. Both were excellent but a little on the pricy side for the serving size.

Absolutely a fantastic experience

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

Went for lunch and everything we had was delicious. Started with tuna tartare and moved to a pasta dish, squid and finished with beef. There were four of us and the food delivery was spot on. Check out the pics.

Yum, yum and more yum!

By N B |

A group of eight friends came here for our last night in Chicago based on a recommendation. We left not only full but also feeling that we had just had one of the best dinners ever anywhere. Kudos to the Chef, his team, and our server, Amber. Note: If you're expecting to have a meal where everyone is served all at once, this isn't the place. The meals are brought to your table as they're ready. It's not a big deal—we ordered several amazing appetizers and vegetable plates to share before our main courses arrived.

Disappointing dishes

By Alfonso Ismael |

Trendy place in Chicago, it was not easy to make the reservation, very atmospheric, even noisy. Good service from the staff, attentive but always in a hurry, I suppose due to the number of people. The important thing, the food was a disappointment, my wife ordered pasta with lobster tail which was fibrous and tasteless, I ordered a dish with pork, the portion they served was mostly fatty and really small, even with an egg fried and a large slice of bread as a base. I do not recommend it

The Purple Pig Flies.

By Conny Wylie |

The Purple Pig is a Michelin recognized, James Beard winning eatery, aon Michigan avenue serving up great Mediterranean food in a jovial, communal atmosphere. The menu covers a range of specialties from bone marrow to smoked pork tongue to shareable plates from all parts of the pig while also excelling at veggies. I scooped up an open faced sandwich with pork jowl...........didn't know pork could taste so good. This restaurant is a must-go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the Purple Pig flies.

Dinner at the bar

By mfs20 |

Everything was great, the service, the food, the ambience. it was very crowded so my suggestion is call or get a reservation. I think I got the last barstool available..

Amazing

beautiful restaurant. We were very well looked after and the food was fabulous. I recommend it to everyone in Chicago. Amazing.

The Best Restaurant My 84 Year Old World Traveling Grandmother Has Ever Been To

By Emily E |

1 Million out of 5 - This restaurant was phenomenal, life-changing even. We are still talking about it 3 weeks later like it was yesterday! Staff recommended we order dishes and share - highly recommend you try this! Dishes come out in random order. Flavors were so complex and indescribably good. My 84 y/o grandmother told the staff that it was the best restaurant she had ever been to! Go to The Purple Pig. You will be astounded. Thank you so, so much for the amazing experience!

not so great!!!!

By a1mominator |

terrible!! small plates - cheese tray tasted like it came from the grocery store, the ricotta smear plate was probably a 1/4 teaspoon of ricotta, the broccoli was not tasty, and the polenta ball, burnt on the outside and under cooked on the inside!!

Share, share, share!

By In50by50 |

Bright, clean, airy dining areas. Wonderful service, knowledgeable and very helpful. Three of us all enjoyed five plates and a bottle of wine. Don't bother trying to agree, everyone should pick something that catches their eye, it's all good.

Outstanding, eclectic menu and wonderful food

By KarenfromStLouis |

We sampled a few different items from the menu and each one was a delicious work of art! Even the iced tea was memorable. Love this place!

Atmosphere, good food and wine!

By NR70 |

Excellent wines...friendly service, generous and tasty food! Magnificent atmosphere to have a great time!

Very busy but fun

By Joanne B |

You absolutely need reservations. Cool spot but crammed. Stand up tall counters. Small outside space. Funky. Easy to get to location

my favorite grub during my time in Chicago

By Frag |

Man, it was seriously amazing, hands down my favorite grub during my time in Chicago. And let's talk about the service – top-notch stuff, especially when the staff dished out their recommendations. The way they described everything made it all sound absolutely mouthwatering.

Underwhelming and overpriced

By mightymomom |

I was underwhelmed by the entire experience. The appetizers were decent but my meal - ravioletta pasta- was horribly salty. The restaurant was so noisy it was very difficult to carry on a conversation. Overpriced for the quality, too.

WOW! Great experience all around!

By Terri L |

The great reviews are true! The food is excellent! We were moderately hungry, ordered 4 small plates to share and it was more than enough for the two of us. We had the duck croquettes, mushrooms 3 ways, pig tails, and patatas bravas (which was my least favorite - a bit too spicy for me). We did not have reservations, but sat at the bar. Wait staff was friendly, attentive, and very helpful with making selections for wine as well as food. This will be on my "must go" places the next time we're in Chicago. As an FYI, I would not recommend this for small children or picky eaters!

Noise ...

By Graham C |

This restaurant had been recommended . Arrived into an incredible noise packed restaurant . We could not have a conversation and be heard . We asked our server for advice about the menu, but again due to the noise level, we could not hear what was been said fully. We where so unimpressed we didn't eat at the restaurant and instead left . Would not recommend at all.

We like it very much

By Cinthia |

Excellent. Very good food, service from John very friendly and attentive. Well located and price on average than we saw in the US for this level.

100% recommended 👍

By Sutherland Boy |

Delicious food at a hidden treasure just off the Magnificent Mile. The meat was outstanding and cooked perfectly. The service was extremely friendly, and there was a lively atmosphere in the restaurant.

Consistently great

By Wendy Y |

Being from out of town, we have to pick and choose where to go. This is an easy decision that we’ve been to over and over. Because the food is spectacular, the service is friendly, and the location is terrifically convenient. The menu changes seasonally and it all tastes great! The pistachio smear is “lick the plate” worthy….thanks Johan!

Great food and service!

By erin seager |

Drinks and food were terrific! Iliya recommended 2 changes to our choices and gave us guidance ahead of time that family-style food comes out at different times. Terrific team service and wonderfully gracious attitudes by everyone! Ossobucco, roasted carrots and whipped ricotta were amazing! Highly recommend

Awesome Place Chicago!

By Joshua P |

Took my family of four here for our nice meal in Chicago. I have an 11 and 15 year old. The server made them feel as welcome as the adults. We order a ton to share as well as got a bottle of wine to share. Bonus he gave us samples of two to help us pick. The roasted beets were to die for. I will say there basket of bread for the table was the only thing I would ding them for, just not up to the caliber of the rest of the menu. Tops was the lamb ragu on the large noodles. That was the crowd pleaser by far. Highly recommended!

Great Food & Atmosphere Service disappointing

By Anthony P |

really looked forward to the Purple Pig m - the food and atmosphere was everything we expected - unfortunately service felt manufactured & not at all authentic so let down the experience

So GOOD! Wow

By 911dg |

Went on an recommendation- wow was I lucky. I went alone as I was on business. I asked 5 people at the bar what they had, and was it good - ALL reviews glowing. I got the Pork CHOP - I went big - it was phenomenal! Fantastic combinations with the caramelised apples..

Exceptional food and service

By TravelM22222 |

Wow! What a fantastic meal! I stopped by the Purple Pig on a recent trip to Chicago and enjoyed a fabulous meal at the bar. The food was wonderful with excellent wines to pair. Above all I was impressed by the exceptional service, my server behind the bar ( I believe it was Howie) was attentive and helped make my birthday special!

Awesome!!

By LJC0311 |

Wow! Amazing food! We had the steak tartare, sardines, and morcilla. All were amazing!!!!! Service was great. Totally recommend.

A Must-Do Dinner!

By JAE |

One of the best meals we have ever had! My husband had the chicken dish with potatoes and the chicken was incredibly flavorful and juicy. I had the beef short rib ravioli with bone marrow and it was so good that I was tempted to lick the plate. Other members of the group had delicious pork and lamb dishes. The only slight miss for us was the grilled calamari; it was not our style as we prefer the fried but we gave it a chance. Service was also excellent. This is an absolute must if you are in Chicago.

Amazing Flavor, Small Portions

By Aquajh |

This place has the best food I’ve tried around Chicago — everything was super tasty! The only downside is that the portions are pretty small, so you might leave a little hungry if you’re expecting a big meal. Still, the flavor totally makes up for it. Definitely worth trying if you’re after great taste!

Must try

By David H |

Visited Chicago and was thoroughly impressed with service and atmosphere. Food was fantastic and team made us feel welcomed. Very attentive and had a great experience! Definitely recommend.

A fantastic meal in an obscure location

By Daniel R |

We had made reservations a few weeks prior to our trip to Chicago, and the hotel concierge reaffirmed that we would not regret going here. A few things up front - 1. Make a reservation. 2. Come hungry. Everything here, from the drinks, to the tapas, to the “entrees”, was absolutely fantastic. We started off with the arancini and broccoli, both of which were quickly devoured. The waiter recommended the ravioletto and the pork belly, both of which proved to be well worth the recommendation. Overall, this was an outstanding meal, and I’d highly recommend a visit here.

Nice food in a nice restaurant

By Lamis |

It is very nice and clean restaurant. The food was also so delicious people working there were also so nice I will go back .

Great food, service uneven

By Colleen D |

Went early with a reservation and got lovely service with meal. Food was excellent and meant to be shared. Bread with bone marrow was particularly good. Our experience was marred as we were there for my husbands birthday which they confirmed with us when we checked in. Table right next to us was celebrating a birthday and they made a fuss - us nothing not enemies a verbal birthday wish. Did not arrive expecting anything but … not sure how they decide who is worthy of an acknowledgment.

Friends outing

By Bill G |

4 of us visited and loved the place. We were booked for 9pm but they managed to squeeze us in at 8.30pm which was impressive given how busy it was. We had a number of small plates. The pig's ear was a stand out favourite but all were good. Great atmosphere and nice wine selection. Don't normally get to sweets but the pistachio crème brûlée was unbelievable.

Purple Pig Perfection!!

By Susan F |

Came here on a recommendation from locals we met on a food tour and it did not disappoint. Great food, drinks and service. Whipped ricotta appy is delicious as is the seafood risotto! Will definitely be back!

Unexpected!!!

By Daniel |

We pulled this spot up on a whim and thought it was a Barbecue Joint. Boy were we wrong. This was one of the best spots we’ve found in a long time! The food was original and flavors were amazing. Good enough that I’m planning a trip back to bring my wife. A must try if you can get in. Make reservations , we got lucky and had a couple seats available at the Bar. They cook with their Heart.

Outstanding food

By HandsomeMoose |

Stopped in for dinner without a reservation. They were able to seat us at the bar opposite the kitchen. Way cool watching all the different dishes being prepared. Food and service were impeccable. I had the Seafood Risotto and my wife had the Filet. Both were delicious. So many menu items we would have liked to try.

Extremely unhealthy food

By Foodie |

The food was extremely unhealthy. All the bread served with the starters was fried. The crackers served with the cheese plate were pieces of fried bread. Even extremely healthy broccolini was fried. It seems that this restaurant is trying to do its best to contribute to propagating America's worsening obesity epidemic.

Very very good

By BDJ6969 |

Great experience. My wife and I stopped in with not reservations and were able to get a seat at the bar. The bartender/waiter explained the menu style with some suggestions. The whipped feta dip was great.

Great wine & swine

By TraciS |

Excellent food & service. Definitely need reservations. Great wine also. Food combinations & flavors impeccable. Pricey

Fantastic restaurant on the magnificent mile.

By Meghan G |

I come to this restaurant every time I go to Chicago. It is fantastic. The portions are pretty generous, and the attention to detail is incredible. The tuna tartare appetizer was beautifully presented. We also had the seafood risotto and the pork belly. It was all delicious.

Best Tapas Restaurant in Chicago

By Brenda P |

This is my favorite Tapas restaurant in Chicago! The food is amazing! The service is exceptional and location is right on Michigan Ave! My daughter’s birthday is 2 days after mine and she chose the purple pig for our family celebration! It was great choice! I look forward to returning the next time I am in Chicago!!

Worth a visit and I don't even eat pork.

By M A |

Amazing service. Creative yummy food. Go with a larger group if you can so you can try a lot. We were only able to share two items due to business budget and appetite. The Tuna tower was recommended and it didn't disappoint. Both visually exciting and fresh new flavors for a common dish . We also had the squid ink pasta. Could have had this to myself and wasn't in love with the tomato flavor, but fish and homemade squid ink pasta perfect. I don't eat pork, but plenty to choose from that I had a hard time. The bone marrow looked amazing.

Unexpected surprise

By b0bbip |

The Purple Pig was an unexpected surprise. We had read great reviews on line and made reservations. It is in an odd location and I would not have noticed it and just stopped by. The food was absolutely delicious. My son and I each ordered a main dish and split it. The dishes do not come with any additional food such as vegetables or bread, that would be ordered separately. The atmosphere was a little loud but the service was great!

Great menu, cool space

By JESMizzou |

Very cool space inside and a nice menu - service was excellent. Portions are pretty big for a shared plate spot which makes this a great place to go with a group of friend or intimate night out. I didn't give 5 stars coz I felt the food was a shade sub-par for the price point. I would give it another shot and try some different dishes. I had Prosciutto and cheese board - cheese was very very good, but the prosciutto was average (remember this is weighed vs price point and what I have had a similar spots). The pork pate was delicious, cocktails were fine.

Too bad we can not go back

By Annalisa P |

Last supper in Chicago, or rather last holiday dinner in the USA. We chose different meat dishes (pork and beef) and we were all enthusiastic about it: raw materials, preparation, Service. No excess, clean flavors and personality. Excellent sorbets. The proposals on the wine list are also good, ranging between the USA and Europe.

Delicious food!!!!!!

By marie12345145 |

Great food and I loved how they serve the food. There were 3 of us and we ordered 3 dishes. Whichever dish was prepared first that dish came out from the kitchen and was served “family style”. This makes perfect sense so that all of us can taste each dish and it’s served at the perfect temperature. I should mention that my husband and I don’t eat pork & we still had amazing non-pork choices. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.

Food and Service were excellent.

By zonajack1 |

Outstanding. We shared a Greek Salad, Whipped Ricotta app and milk braised pork shoulder. Everything was very flavorful.

Delicious

By Tim Z |

This restaurant is an absolute delight for the taste buds. We had the pleasure of sitting at the kitchen counter, which provided an exciting and interactive experience as we observed the skilled cooks in action. The staff was highly knowledgeable and went out of their way to assist us. Our order consisted of mussels, pork ribs, and a goat cheese salad, and each dish was uniquely delicious. We left thoroughly satisfied and eager to return to this wonderful establishment in the near future!

Excellent!!

Excellent! All delicious dishes! Delicious flavor and excellent service, Angela 100% service!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Would Go Purple Again

By WI Cheese Girl |

We went on a Monday night, within walking distance of the Hyatt Regency. Made reservation, which is good because it was packed. They got us in about 20 min early. Service great and while crowded, ppl were all friendly. Happy vibe. Had orecchiette-amazing. Pork chop, very good. Terrific wine & cocktail list. Ppl next to us had Brussels sprouts & pork shank and loved them. Total bill around $125 for 2, including a drink each.

Great food and ambiance. Service - ok.

By Liz G |

Came here last night with my husband and two friends. The ambiance is beautiful and the food was great. We ordered the Greek salad, artichoke/asparagus, tuna tartare, scallops, calamari and seafood risotto. All were delicious ! For drinks we had the mezcal old-fashioned cocktails. They were delicious! The real surprise was that for a restaurant with this type of reputation, the lead server, Josie was not only serious, but just not friendly. She made recommendations based on what she liked best, without inquiring about our preferences. When we ordered our cocktails she didn't even ask if we had a preference for the mezcal. I should mention that the staff that brought out our drinks and food were fantastic. Service can make or break the memories of a great restaurant. This is the only reason I'm giving this a 4-star review.

A good one service.

By Anne C |

After a week of trying new places in Chicago, The Purple Pig emerged as the best of the lot. The food and presentation were outstanding. So if you and your party want different dishes, just know that each dish will be a lot of food for one person. The service was very good. Tables were close together, but that was relatively expected in Chicago at a desirable restaurant. Highly recommended!

Decent prices, an excellent service

By Maria S |

This is a casual afternoon out. Service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. Don't miss this place if are visiting Chicago

The Purple Pig

By Suzanne B |

Outstanding restaurant with very different foods of small plates to full entrees. Friends from Great Britain joined us and each loved this restaurant. We recommend Tuna Tartare in its elevated circled bread display, the burrata with delicious strawberries, raspberries, pistachio sauce with basil swirls. And, the Cesar salad with fresh parmesan, tomatoes and crispy romaine lettuce were wonderful. Our server John is the absolute best ~ great personality and very professional. We say don't miss this restaurant !!

Great Family Expirience

By Diazbenavides |

The Tuna tartar was amazing...best ever The wine pairing was useful and handy. PORK BELLY TO DIE FOR. Nice vibe and ambiance. Congratulations definitely coming back.

Cool dinner in a central location

By Anke G |

We stayed here on recommendation and it was worth it ! Nicely decorated, classic bar in the middle and open kitchen . That's why it smells a bit (of pork, I found ) and is very warm . Never mind. One divides 3-4 dishes for two (including bread). Tuna Tatar fabulously decorated in a ring of black Crisp chips. Winter salad with parmesan and ham good ; too many red onions for me . Meat aisle pork; delicious . No dessert. But there would have been European cheese , I saw Morbier and a few others that I buy at home as well . Local beer was good ; huge wine selection glass by glass and half liter ; very good . Very nice waitress, Josefine, has explained everything sufficiently . We'll be back!

So delicious!!!

By Lisa P |

The food was SO good! We walked in without reservations and sat at the bar. We had excellent service there and watched the busy open kitchen preparing all kinds of things. The menu was innovative and varied. The presentation of everything was beautiful!

I recommend it

By Mary B |

I recommend it, the food is of good quality, it is a place with a good atmosphere, and the truth creates nice memories in that place.

Great food, fun atmosphere

By Heather O |

We did walk in for dinner and ended up sitting near the kitchen. Watching the chefs make the food was part of the fun of the evening. Food was excellent and service at the bar was great. Will definitely return!

Food is unforgettable, the rest is to be desired

By Trip Dip Sip and Sleep |

I am giving this delicious place 3 stars because the food is truly something unforgettable. The have a broccolini that I am still dreaming of. The location is great but inside restaurant itself is not designed for it's heavy diners traffic. It was so loud we were screaming across the table without any luck of getting a dialogue through. They have maximized their space to the point that a server had to ask the person sitting beside me to stand from their seat in order for him to grab a bottle of wine stored behind. Our server was efficient but we felt dispatched and uncared for.

Clear Winner

By Dan de Padua |

After a week of trying new places in Chicago, The Purple Pig emerged as the best of the lot. We shared ear, tongue, bone marrow, shoulder, and belly (plus broccoli and swordfish), and each dish was a unique delight, especially paired with first a Zinfandel, then a Cabernet Sauvignon, to add to the fun. Our servers were also excellent. Six stars.

Amazing!

I arrived without reservation and was on a waiting list. In less than 10 minutes I was sitting at the bar. The card is varied and bold. For each dish they have the Pairing Recommendation for those who drink alcohol. The prices are fair, the atmosphere is fun and bustling! I ordered your Crispy Ear’s Pig and it’s otherworldly!!!! I'd definitely come back. If you come in a group, a Reservation is recommended.

Chic, upscale, but very noisy restaurant.

By Valerie B |

Chic, upscale restaurant on Michigan Ave. It had been highly recommended, so we made reservations about 3 weeks out. When we arrived, we had to wait about 15 minutes, and the only table left was a high top near the back bar. It was not comfortable, but we didn’t have an option. We were not expecting that on a Tuesday night. It was so loud, we could barely hear each other. One of my daughters had just flown in and she, my husband and I were there to visit our other daughter for the first time since she moved to the city just before Covid. The food was good, but not outstanding as we expected for the price. The best part was the tiramisu dessert. It was wonderful! Maybe on another night it would be better.

Sorry it’s a Miss

By malto |

The food is salty at a bit fatty. The wait stuff is amazing , but the tables are so close together you hear all other conversations over your own. It was my only choice of dining for our first time in Chicago. However we won’t be back again.

The finest meals in Chicago

By simstuff |

Because of the fact we were on a touring bus with limited time, our waiter made sure that we had our dinner on the table as quickly as possible. The food was prepared so fast that my husband and I got to actually savour our dishes and enjoy the lovely atmosphere. The food was fantastic! I had the pasta with lobster sauce and my husband had the lamb and we share the roasted beets appetizer. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who had frequented The Purple Pig a week prior to our Chicago visit and it did not disappoint! Thank you to the Chefs and Waiter that served us! We are most gracious for your accommodations!

Top of the list for Chicago eats....

By KCinLG |

Second time here and the food and service were still as good as I remembered it to be on my last visit in 2021. This place is always POPPIN’! Family night, date night, girls’ night…..you name it, the ambiance fits. The food is always of good quality, very tasty and portions just right. Cocktails are really good, and service is always extra. Heriberto took care of us, and he was very attentive. Despite this being my second visit, we got a little lost. The restaurant is located in what looks like a commercial building. It is very well worth the visit though.

Outstanding food and service. Don’t miss it!

By SDT |

The food here was outstanding. This was one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. Every dish we had was creative, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. They recommend you share plates and I agree. The more things you try the happier you will be. We shared salt roasted beets which had whipped feta and pistachio butter. Sprinkles of pistachio added texture. This was probably my favorite dish of the night. The whipped feta and pistachio butter were delicious. We also had beef carpaccio off the specials menu. Again, it was delicious. We also had the turkey leg confit. His was a whole leg. The meat was falling apart, moist and delicious. It came with an agrodulche sauce that was a perfect blend of sweet and sour. Fried capers added a nice texture. We also had the pork chop which was perfectly cooked and delicious. We really only needed three plates since the turkey and pork chop were so large, but we enjoyed every bite. The service was excellent and attentive. The only negative is it’s a very crowded, loud space. However, don’t let that deter you. This food was wonderful and I will be back as soon as I’m back in Chicago.

Outstanding food and service

By Susan60048 |

The food is absolutely outstanding. The service is outstanding as well - servers are knowledgeable, attentive and joyful. I ate here two days in a row and had a top notch experience on both visits. Everything was delicious - the Iberian Pork Tenderloin was the best pork I have had in a long time and the Lemon Pie was delightful - light and loved the pistachios. I will be back next time I am in town.

Pigs ear is delicious

By Carrie3976 |

The food was abolsiutely delicious. I would suggest if you are in a group to get a bunch of appetizers to share and then get main dish. I loved the crispy pigs ear, mushrooms, Brussel sprouts. The pasta is homemade and so tasty and the sauce was seasoned to perfection. The service was great. You will want to make reservations because it gets packed quick. They can accommodate large groups. Overall great experience.

Gastropub with high ambitions

By Diver Dan |

Although pork is in the name and all over the menu, we didn't have it. Many interesting options and the menu is built for sharing. We were a couple and had a couple of starters and one main, (the duck, very good) which was plenty. Serious and comprehensive wine list. Can be very loud if you are near a big table.

Enjoy the Purple Pig

By gwhoward722 |

What a fantastic restaurant!! The food is very unique and so delicious that you can not describe it as one particular type. Their wine list is very extensive. We had friends visiting from Paris and they loved it. The entire staff is first rate, and very helpful and accommodating.

Sit at the bar for a show

By HoosierWisdom |

Let me start with this: The Purple Pig is my favorite restaurant in Chicago, and Jimmy is a chef to watch. I like to sit at the bar and watch the food being prepared. It's a cross between chaios and a finely choreographed fight scene in a movie. The end result is amazing. Personal favorites are the pickled beets with whipped goat cheese and the broccoli with the anchovie paste. You would never expect to order a turkey leg at a foodie restaurant, but try it. Thanksgiving will never add up again. Finally, the Sicillian Iris is to die for. Panna Cotta and dark chocolate melted inside a thin pastry. I have ordered one for strangers at the next table who were too full for dessert, and each time, their plate was scraped clean. Warning, without a reservation, the wait can be considerable. Going in the slightly off hours is a great option.

Love it!

By 658alisond |

Fabulous food - we had 4 plates between 2 of us - each plate tasted divine. Great vibe. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Pork lovers dream!

By The.Lady.Explorer 🌍🌺🤿 |

One of the best spots in Chicago! Such a shame one has to share with all of mag mile! We were in town for the SHRM annual conference and it was refreshing to have some good food after three days of running around McCormick Place. We had the crispy pig ears, mushrooms three ways, and Purple Pig's spin on the Chicago dog. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch. Highly reccomend! Expect a wait if you don’t have a rezo.

Bad place

By Paulito N |

Nice place but quite overrated. Very x everything, very slow service. Everything arrived in time for prices that offer you minimal waits that bring food to the table at the same time as others. In general the food is delicious without going to the extraordinary. And that thing about being charged for bread is terrible already considering the prices.

Good spot!

By Pirateslifeforme00 |

We ate dinner here our first evening in Chicago on a Wednesday. I recommend reservations because the place was PACKED. Clearly it’s an area favorite. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We weren’t starving so we just ordered a few small things to share and dessert. All of it was really good and relatively reasonably priced for the area. The menu is pretty big with a lot of variety. Our waiter was a bit odd but it didn’t ruin our meal or anything. I would def go here again.

I’d give 10 stars if I could

By sou1957th |

Absolutely everything from beginning to end was outstanding: the service , the food, the wine, the vibe. When I say I would give them 10 stars, I mean it. The pork belly is melt in your mouth. The half duck is absolutely delicious. We kept looking at other tables at what was coming to them everything looked delicious. Book early. It is busy and for good reason. You won’t regret it. It is in our top 2 meals ever.

Food heaven

By Andres G |

Shame on me for waiting so long to come here. Came back to visit Chicago having grown up here and never have been here. We made a reservation on a Thursday @ 6pm and was promptly seated with Amber serving us. We had done some homework on this place, but asked for her recommendations which where spot on for something’s we wanted to try. This is served family style so the plates come out as they are ready. Something’s we ordered, whipped ricotta, Spanish octopus, grilled broccoli, pork belly, better yet look at the pics. Only question is what are you waiting for? Food was fabulous, service was superb, what more do you want?!

Long wait and terrible service

By Kitty H |

Had reservations. Had to wait 30 min for our table then server yelled at us when we asked about separate checks due to business travel (need separate itemized receipts for accounting. Asked to see manager, who did not come out. We ended up leaving.

Amazing!

By GD77 |

Came here solo based on trip advisor reviews, sat at the bar, and it did not disappoint. Duck croquette, pork blade steak, mango mousse ... excellent!

Wow!

By Suzette |

Stumbled upon this fabulous restaurant while visiting Chicago for four days and ate there every evening. The food was absolutely delightful and the service unparalleled excellence. Special thank you to our waiters, Able and Jake and to hostess, Erika who guided us in making our selections for food, wine and cocktails. Everything that we chose was a work of art and a sensorial treat.

Very good but service could be improved.

By bduperrin |

Decent welcome and very noisy room. The waiter is quite insistent about taking orders and we each order a unique dish. For me it will be a pork belly, ginger glaze, marinated carrot, curly which will be excellent even if it could have been more hearty; On the other hand, while there are only 3 of us at the table, there will be a 20-minute wait between the arrival of the first and last course, so one of us had to eat alone if he didn't want it to get cold. We will finish with an ice cream before leaving. In the end a very good meal but a noisy and tiring atmosphere and not very good service.

As good as ever!

By Michael M |

Every dish was outstanding. we got three things and shared and we couldn’t really decide what was best. And the pistachio cannoli pie was to die for. The old fashioned was delicious!!!

Double charge

By Mimi0924 |

I was there with a friend by the end of June. The food was great and the service was fine. However, my credit card was charged twice for the same meal, except that the second charge was $20 more. I called the restaurant to speak to a manager and I was told the managers do not handle that kind of complaint and I was given an email address to explain what had happened. I sent 2 emails and no reply. fortunately I save all my receipts and now my credit card is handling this issue. I am extremely dissapointed; this restaurant is somewhat expensive and customers deserve to be treated with respect. At least their managers should be trained to handle complaints

Excellent meal.

By Sarah L |

The food and presentation were outstanding. Probably the best pork belly I've ever had, and the steak tartare was also excellent. Be aware that the portions are designed for sharing, so if you and your party want different dishes just know that each dish will be a lot of food for one person. I found the service to be slightly lacking - it seemed there was more attentiveness to the table next to ours, but it certainly wasn't bad. It is also very loud in the restaurant. All in all an excellent meal.

Creative Tapas and Lively Atmosphere in the Heart of Chicago

🟢 Creative dishes and quality ingredients 🟢 Great selection of wines and cocktails 🟢 Lively and modern atmosphere 🟢 Quick service and knowledgeable staff 🟢 Ideal for groups and informal dinners 🔴 Very noisy and often crowded 🔴 High prices 🔴 Long waits without reservation 🔴 Some dishes can be too rich or spicy ➡️ Portions designed for sharing ➡️ Not suitable for those looking for a quiet romantic dinner 💲 Guide price: $80 per person Recommended to: Groups of friends, lovers of tapas and creative cuisine, those who want to live a convivial experience. Not recommended to: Those seeking tranquility, those who do not like noisy places, those who want a traditional dinner.

Very rich

The place is nice normal. They have a rather extensive menu and with good unique recipes Erika is an excellent manager of the place. He recommended very good dishes. The only detail was the late delivery of our table

In a City with Lots of Eateries, Don’t Miss Out Dining at The Purple Pig

By Marianne |

We had the best culinary experience today at our 1st visit to The Purple Pig. We sat at the bar and ordered three dishes…the roasted beets with whipped goat cheese & pistachio butter; beef tartare with quail eggs & capers; and the BEST roasted bone marrow with herbs, capers & onions that I’ve ever eaten. Everything thing we tasted was outstanding. We were so surprised when Chef Effy gave us a sample of his Spanish grilled octopus after we chatted on the way he prepares this dish. It was the most tender and flavorful octopus. Then he treated us to a chocolate panna cotta…rich chocolate with pecans, chocolate crumble and raspberry. So decadent and delish. I couldn’t believe the kindness and generosity of this chef. We walked away with satisfied taste buds, full tummies and connections with three really nice men that work at this eatery. It was a pleasure to meet you, Chef Effy, Jaime and Jose. We’ll definitely be back.

Very nice place hidden at the entrance of a building

By PaulaPaula |

I arrived based on a Tripadvisor recommendation on my second day in Chicago. Beautiful place, they serve lunch until very late (I arrived 4:15pm). I had a sangria which was one of the recommended drinks. I loved. Made with pinot grigio, cider, brandy and the best: a cinnamon stick that gave it a spectacular flavor. I ate the “pork belly” which was very tender and just right. I closed such a nice lunch with a huge pumpkin cake!!! I loved the place. And the attention of all the staff is sublime.

Delicious

By Iscdem |

All the delicious dishes! It’s a little strange that they take the dishes one by one, not all at once, so each diner starts eating at different times of the meal. A little uncomfortable, but so all the dishes arrive freshly brewed and warm.

Deliciousness! Fav Chicago Restaurant, but please don’t mess with perfection!

By LizzieandPhil |

The Purple Pig is one of our favorite Chicago restaurants. We come for the flavors- well thought out and balanced- everything is very flavorful and we love the sharing plates. It’s our go to spot and we always have a great shared meal. One recommendation please, bring back the mashed potatoes with the braised pork shoulder please! Change can be good sometimes but don’t mess with perfection!

Taste and solvent cuisine in downtown Chicago

By JaimeAndes |

It is nice to find a kitchen made of flavors and worked with solvency. In our case, rice and pasta and also an excellent Crême brulee that brought back memories of Catalonia. Good Service, Attentive and Capacity (in covers) to guide. At reasonable prices

Eating here is a must in Chicago

By aimers888 |

Amazing food! So happy I decided to come here when visiting Chicago. I had the whipped ricotta as my appetizer and the pork shoulder as my main and both were amazing. Will definitely be going back when I visit Chicago again. Highly recommend this place!

Very tasty and tender pork ribs

By Leslie L |

Excellent pork ribs. Very tasty, succulent and tender. Very sweet and spicy sauce. Excellent waiter service. The food came out very fast.

Good food and service

By Nicola_Six |

I enjoyed the coconut lime margarita, roasted bone marrow and beet salad. The bone marrow was cooked simply but was delicious. However, the salad part of the bone marrow and the entire beet salad had a bit too much vinegar/acid taste for my liking. The hostesses were great at managing the queue of people outside waiting for a table. My server was also friendly and good, but I think he was a bit stressed as it was very busy. It was also very loud inside - which I didn’t mind but if you’re looking for a romantic quiet date, this is not the place. All in all, an enjoyable meal, and I would try other things on the menu next time - I read the pork shoulder is amazing but as a petite solo diner it was too much for me to order.

Fun food that you'll never forget!

Fantastic food! Go hungry and with lots of time so you can choose multiple dishes and have the time to enjoy! Everything from the staff to the environment to the food was phenomenal! A must-stop on your Chicago tour!

Lunch with family

By Shannon B |

The Purple Pig was amazing. It’s the first thing we did after arriving from Atlanta. The atmosphere was perfect. Trendy style and not snobby. They played great 80s rock. Everything we had was fantastic. Cheese and meat board. We shared tagliatelle, squid, pork belly. I had an old fashioned cocktail with Dark Arts whiskey. It was perfectly made.

Restaurant owners are very impressed

Dining Out

It's a great privilege to pay for small amounts of regular food assembled in a fun way. I assume the location and marketing is the main draw. 🤗

Delicious food

By Karen G |

The Purple Pig is a very popular restaurant, we didn’t have reservations and we had to wait for quite a long time, but it was worth it. The food is really good and the service is great as well. The only thing I didn’t like is that the food doesn’t come at the same time for everyone on the table. My dish arrived at least 10 minutes before my husband’s. Although they mention this from the beginning, it can be a little annoying. I think they should change this practice, but the food is great and I definitely recommend.

Unique, yet approachable small plates!

By Connor M |

The Purple Pig had an array of unique, yet approachable small plates to share. Everything my table had was very good, and 3 small plates was perfect for 2 people. Service was very good. Tables were close together, but that was relatively expected in Chicago at a desirable restaurant. Highly recommended!

To expensive for low quality

By Kjetil Oseng Bjørløw |

My girlfriend and I ordered wine by the glas and we never saw any bottles. The waiter just showed up with two glases of wine. Then my girlfriend ordered the Ravioletta and I ordered the filét mignon medium rare. The pasta dish showed up within 5 minutes and the filét mignon showed up after about 15 minutes. The Ravioletta was a pretty small dish and the biggest disapointment was the filét mignon wich was close to well done. The waiter never came by to ask how the food was.

A Chicago treat

By Russ |

This was my second visit to the Purple Pig, the first at the new location. The feeling is more modern now but the staff has the same friendly and fun attitude. The food is still fabulous. The tartar was a hit and the scallops left two of my compatriots speechless. I had the pleasure of introducing them to bone marrow. After a little convincing to step up they all agreed well worth it. We had six dishes, desserts and a bottle of wine for around three hundred plus tip. A steal in my mind for lunch for four!

Very good restaurant, I loved it.

By bizousren |

Very nice experience, excellent food, delicious cocktail, very pleasant atmosphere. Impeccable service. WOW!

Fantastic, will be back!

By Zach T |

This spot was perfect for a date night with my wife. There were also large groups in there enjoying the atmosphere. From the waiter’s recommendation for my wife’s drink, to the appetizer, to our entree, everything was fantastic. We made a reservation and got sat a few minutes early. We enjoyed the bread for the table as appetizer, the basket of bread was good as it was a mix of different bread types. The olive oil dip for the bread was equally good. Our chose to split the pork secreto and let me tell you, it was so tender and full of flavor! We both would recommend this entree to anybody. Overall our experience here was fantastic and we will be back in the future when we visit Chicago!

Good atmosphere regular food

By ia |

Good atmosphere a bit noisy for my taste but it's like a more refined pub, the food I didn't like at all, ugly caesar salad, we ordered 2 pastas nothing else, maybe we should have ordered something else as everyone looked happy but us. Good wines. I wouldn't come back. Normal care.

Very good everything

By victoradrianAV |

excellent place, very good food, fair portions, not America style but enough, there is food for everyone and the atmosphere very well to eat

Inventive, delicious, and overall excellent experience

By MLH |

I can’t say enough great things about the Purple Pig. The menu is so appealing, and the food looks so great when it comes out that you want to try everything. The beet salad was exceptional, with a pistachio butter that gives it a peanut butter and jelly vibe. Home made pastas are perfectly cooked. The lemon mousse dessert was perfection. Reasonable prices and portions and excellent service top off a fun atmosphere. This is my favorite spot in Chicago!

Fancy pig

By Kristina G |

This place was recommended to me by a friend. We went and tried it out, and we had a very nice experience there. The atmosphere was nice not too loud. Plenty of tables to sit at. we ordered a couple of drinks and appetizers and everything was delicious.

The food was so good. I can not wait till the next time that I go!!!

By Juneehartofilax |

It was very, very good! And the service was excellent!! We can not wait till the next time we go for dinner with friends.

The pork shank is delicious!!!

By mar |

The food is great! The pork shank is delicious, tasty, I do recommend pairing with a red wine. I sit at the bar, and service is good, efficient. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the hostess. When I arrived, I asked for a seat, and I said it was okay to sit at the bar... she assigned me a corner that was the least comfortable seat. There were at least the other 6-7 empty seats, but she said that it was not possible... if I was not really willing to have dinner at the restaurant, I would have left. Again, food is great, no complaints. But there are a lot of opportunities related to the hostess.

A fun and delicious place to dine in Chicago. The pastas and Risottos are delicious

By Julio L |

Waiting on my feet for an hour because I didn't have a reservation was proving very frustrating. Being assigned three places in a row at a long table in front of the kitchen seemed like a bad experience. However, the magic began when I noticed that the Latino Chef spoke to everyone in the kitchen in Spanish. This surprised me because they are described as Mediterranean food. Through “Professional Deformation,” together with my son who is an Industrial Engineer, we began to pay attention to their processes to ensure quality and follow up on orders, which turned out to be very effective. But what also surprised us was seeing that everyone in the kitchen was smiling and enjoying their work. All this resulted in excellent dishes and attention that we really enjoyed, especially the risotto and spaghetti. We also had more fun than in Benihana watching them cook. It was a great dinner. And in the end we concluded that they sat us at the best table.

So good!!

Best pasta of my LIFE!

By cmw133 |

I stopped in here last night and sat at the bar. Everyone was incredibly friendly and gracious. The Hungarian white wine I had was delicious. I ordered the agnolotti - mushroom ragu, fried goat cheese, and black truffles. I am going to be dreaming about this meal for months. It was just incredible. Can't recommend this dish or restaurant highly enough! Looking forward to returning next time I'm in Chicago.

Overrated, pork chop not good.

By VeronicaP |

The 23 day aged pork chop was extremely dry to the point of inedible. A shame for a restaurant that specializes in pork. Bread basket was like a resort buffet - not very fresh. Potato croquettes were great. Our server was excellent. Won’t likely go back.

Boring restaurant

By Cristina C |

There's nothing too much food, ok. Charmless restaurant. You sit and eat and leave. Expensive for what they offer. I wouldn't go back. Dough swimming in fat

Unique, imaginative cuisine that is filling and not too stuffy.

By Eric T |

Unique, unreal, amazing, clever, inspiring and well I just can’t come up with the adjective that captures my experience at the purple pig. I was so thoroughly sated that I am struggling to write this review. My wife has lots of food intolerances now (post covid) and follows mostly an aip (autoimmune) diet no nightshades no gluten no eggs no soy etc, but our waiter, Jon, and the chef really catered to her needs. She is a goofy and loves cooking but rarely is able to find truly satisfying yummy food now. The dishes were so fresh and hit all the flavors savory tangy sweet… it was a kind of flavor explosion. We even had a light asparagus/ heart of palm citrusy dish with tzatziki and pecorino that was a perfect finish. My wife had branxino modified slightly so she could enjoy it now and later. I had Jon pick a dish for me pork belly caramelized with apricot purée and a radish salad on top. It was f$@&& amazing. Even the simple cheese tray was out of this world. Don’t come for any of these dishes because the menu changes at least weekly. The wine list is incredible too and we had two half bottles of amazing wine less expensive than the Josh cellars bottle we got at the hotel. This is a must must treat when in Chicago. We went for lunch but dinner may be a better experience as I need a nap now!

very nice

By antony r |

he Purple Pig offers a great variety of flavorful small plates at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is lively, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the charcuterie boards and their famous pork belly. A perfect spot for a casual yet delicious meal in downtown Chicago!

Unique dishes served simply that stand out

By Tanhya Orlando |

I've visited a few times this year, and the liver and bacon pate is a must-try. It’s flavorful and underrated. The sweet bacon sauce pairs perfectly with the liver and bread. The mushroom three-way is also amazing; I didn’t know mushrooms could taste this good. A definite 10/10.

Well, just...

By Jorgeqro |

Well, just dry. Highly recommended but left it to me. Maybe my expectations were very high. Rich fried pig's ears, up there. Then I ordered pork shoulder and it was very good, but the pasta with ink and seafood and pork belly were fine to dry. It seems a lie that bread, which is usually complimentary, is charged. If it's okay, but not great.

A large menu of flavorful dishes

By xcschlr |

I met a friend for lunch at this restaurant, and we shared a vegetable dish (Mushroom 3 Ways) and each ordered a seafood main dish (Squid Ink Chitarra and Salmon). The quantity was just right for us, and we each enjoyed our seafood dish. The price ($31-$34 for a seafood dish) is, however, higher than other restaurants whose food (costing slightly more than $20 for a main dish) we enjoyed just as much if not more, although those restaurants are a bit more tucked away from the main streets and not designed for business meetings.

A must for at least lunch

Extraordinary Food, Excellent Service

By TJWilliamsDanville |

Looking for dinner one night and came across this restaurant's website which specifically calls out their desire to hold some tables/chairs at the bar open for non-reservation patrons. Our family sat at the bar and enjoyed the most delicious food (the octopus and pork belly are MUST HAVES). Our daughter had just completed a triathlon the day prior so she was ravenous and the wait staff gave her an extra dessert (on the house) just to satiate her appetite.

Amazing food

By allisonodenthal |

We visited the Purple Pig based on tour book recommendations and location and it did not disappoint! We had amazing food and wonderful service. Our waiter suggested an off the menu chefs special of pork loin in apple cider that was so tender and delicious. So many small plate appetizers to choose from we'll have to come back on future visits to Chicago to eventually try them all, but really enjoyed the mushrooms 3 ways and roasted beets in a hazelnut butter dressing- had to stop my husband from liking the plates. The chocolate cake is served warm and is to die for. Prices are excellent for this quality in Chicago. The only negative is that is is VERY loud. Not a good place for a first date!

Great food, great atmosphere

By FranSelAl |

Downtown Chicago, very bustling atmosphere, full restaurant, very good food, very good service. Very kind. Nice memory

Delicious. That's the review.

By Ace2529 |

I came here once about ~10 years ago and it was fantastic. I went again this month and it was even better. As far as I'm concerned, I'll want to visit anytime I'm in the city. Both the food and service were fantastic. We let the server choose our dishes and weren't disappointed. It's a unique, changing menu, so don't expect huge portions or lots of traditional items. The beets with whipped goat cheese and pistachios... I'd eat them every night.

Not worth the cost

By Susanna K. |

I went here based on recommendations from Trip Advisor. I was by myself and found a seat at the bar immediately. The seevice was impeccable. The bartender greeted me immediately with a menu and was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. I ordered the ravioletto, which was described as having a porcini mushroom sauce, so I expected mushrooms. There were no mushrooms. Instead it was swimming in basically butter soup. There was also one fairly small filled piece of pasta (that was actually very tasty), and I was still hungry, so I ordered the grilled broccoli, which was so overdressed I could barely eat it. I also ordered the whipped ricotta with pistachios, pears, mint, and crostini, which was delicious and my favorite part of my meal. Overall the meal was very mediocre but definitely not worth the cost.

Amazing Gourmet/ Mediterranean food

This is a real gourmet / mediterranean restaurant. The fflavour and originality of the dishes we ordered were just amazing. I really recommend this restaurant for those who visit Chicago.. it was really worth it. Excelent restaurant gourment/ mediterraneo. Lo recomiendo para aquellos que visiten Chicago.
