sunny day, nowhere better to go to kick back and people watch

No longer a family favorite!

By Melissa A |

Significant change from previous visits over may years. No longer on our list of "go to" places. Tracking of table wait list was dismal with numerous "out of order" people seated and 2X on stated wait times. Food service did not bring the two meals together. We flagged down the waiter and the second meal was served 20 minutes after the first. The bright spot was the bartenders. Friendly, quick and hardworking with excellent drinks.

Secret Spot Locals Love

By Clint V |

Close to the ball park and outdoor eating on the water next to a boat yard looking at the boat dry dock repair facilites. Great Breakfast and Lunch with live music on Sundays

So fun

By Mary O |

I like this restaurant. Really pretty on the water with all the beautiful large sailboats docked. The food was really good. I got a beet salad and it was really good. Fries are crispy and served with a great dipping sauce. Really good place to go. Full bar as well. You can eat inside or out.

Sunday evening.Great live music, dancing and bar be que.

By Peter S |

On Sunday afternoon there was a Latin band and disco with a great atmosphere. The location is basically a dockside - boatyard with a happy- chic feel. Good basic barbecue. Friendly locals and an inclusive atmosphere.with a dockyard backdrop. No frills but a genuine experience.

Unusual location

By Alan M |

Overlooking the dry dock and on the slipway! I attended with a group and we were outside almost in the car park. We had a buffet selection, which was to be expected, but very average quality. The service was OK, but I would not rush back.

Great Location and View

By BJW48 |

We went to lunch here on a beautiful sunny day. Fun and relaxed atmosphere right on the water. Fish and chips was delicious and the Reuben sandwich got a very positive review. The server was attentive and friendly. Wonderful place to enjoy lunch in the California sunshine.

Wow, parking! A modern casual beer joint.

By PhultonPhorever |

Most of the outside deck is now under a tent. Nice to have a view over the water. Dog friendly deck. The chips, guacamole and salsa was surprisingly good. Fresh guacamole and salsa made with chunky freshly diced tomatoes. Service was nice and helpful but not too attentive. Average service for a place like this. tip: leave NOTHING in view in your car in San Francisco especially this area. You may not think it of value but it could lead to a broken window.

mediocre restaurant in a nice location

By IlariaK |

We met friends for lunch on a very hot day. We requested a spot in the shade and after over an hour we where given a place in the sun. the menu is not very extensive and they were out of some things. Service was not friendly and the waitress seemed annoyed by having to work and didn’t really pay attention to pur order (and messed it up). Food is mediocre.

Great Spot after a day of sailing on the bay!

By KatieSantaCruz_CA |

We stopped here at The Ramp after a day of sailing on the bay. It was sunny and beautiful out, and we took a table in the shade outside. The Ramp is right on the bay, next to a boat yard, and the view is boats and bay all the way. The service was outstanding, super relaxed and friendly. The food was good, the selection of tap beer was great! My friends had Blue Moon, and Sierra, while I had a Hef (complete with orange slice, why doesn't everyone do this?) All in all, I good spot to eat, drink, and watch the boats float by.. Oh, and the DO have raw oysters, on Thursdays!

Not interested in serving food

By aquaH2Omama |

My husband and I were starving after spending time at UCSF Children's Hospital to see our new grandchild in the NICU. Our son recommended we grab a bite to eat here and then come back to the hospital. We walked over about 3 pm. The hostess told us they weren't accepting any reservations because the kitchen was closing in 40 minutes. There were empty tables, but plenty of people enjoying a warm Sunday afternoon. We tried to explain that we just wanted something simple to eat & had been at the hospital & my husband needed to eat because he was a diabetic, She wasn't interested in seating us or serving us. We tried to ask about food to go, but all she said is "we'll see you next time." We left without food, knowing that we would never return.

SF favorite

By Anne |

Caught a late afternoon lunch when it was warm enough to sit on the back deck and maybe the fabled non-time crowd was gone. Service was fantastic and the food was great. Unfortunately, they were out of the crab cakes, but the chowder and the salads were enjoyed by all. Good beer choices. Yes, there were pigeons and black birds on the deck, but hey! It's the bay. Tight parking, but all one level, so easy access for walking-impaired.

The view (not the food) makes the difference

By Laurent S |

Friendly place, no complain about the food though it could be done a bit better. Come for the view and the casual-friendly atmosphere. Rightly so it felt there were a lot of blind dates / speed-dating taking taking place, it fun, chilled out and romantic enough for a weekend brunch.

By ukdataguy |

We went to the Ramp for lunch and, luckily it was a sunny day and we were able to sit outside. The view from the patio is a small marina in the middle of a ship repair yard, but it's not as bad as it sounds. For lunch, we had burgers, which were excellent and very filling. Ask about the lunch specials as well - they always have them but they sometimes don't tell you about them. The service could have been better, we were told to "sit anywhere" and it took a while to realize we were there. It's a little hard to find, but it's worth the effort. It's a keeper, especially for lunch

Funky but a must visit SF 'waterfront' experience!

By Gordon C |

You're in SF, lucky you! But for gawds sake , while the iconic waterfront locations are great fun there's more to the Citys' nautical side than Fishermans Wharf and Pier 39! Ok, the Ramp is a bit out of the way but just hop on a ''T' line street car at the Ferry Building , head south, get off at Mariposa St and voila , you've arrived! Not only that but you've enjoyed a fun street car ride that takes you right past ATT park and through the newest SF neighborhood , Mission Bay, home to many prominent firms and organizations such as Lumina, Bayer, UCSF, The Gladstone Institute, and soon Uber headquarters and a new arena for the Golden State Warriors. The Ramp is a funky blue collar vibe bar/restaurant with a great patio overlooking the SF Bay. The location is next to a boat yard and the largest dry dock on the west coast. Best experienced on a sunny day. The food, however, is way better than a typical blue collar dive bar/restaurant as you'd expect in foodie SF. Crab Louis , great burgers, , salads, fish and chips, Cioppino sweet potato fries , bar b que ribs etc.. And great 'craft' cocktails beer, wine. Do yourself a favor and skip the freakin Cheesecake Factory atop Macy's and 'get real' at the Ramp!

Great breakfast

By smk54 |

Stopped in for coffee and breakfast after flying into town. Good coffee and lots of tasty breakfast selection. Eggs Benedict are excellent. Need to go back and fry pulled pork sandwich. Table over had it, and it looked fantastic.

Get up and dance

By MarkapHills |

Great place to sit in the sun drink mohitoes and dance! Yes dance. This is a place the locals go, a shack by the water with great cocktails and as the sun sets a little samba . The atmosphere is amazing.

Salsa by the bay!

By Mme D |

Great place to watch the sunset & dance SALSA! There is a salsa band & a great mixture of happy people of all ages dancing! The drinks are awesome & the wine and bubbly selection is great. The food is above average. This is a place that I will return to! Awesome, awesome, and then some.

Go for the view

By theresaw |

I always seem to end up here meeting friends because it's away from the hustle & bustle of downtown San Francisco. It's on Mission Bay & the views are great especially when the weather is nice. Majority of seating is outside, so on a sunny day, it feels more beach than city. Food is okay -they have a good burger & some fish options, but you don't come for the food. Parking is miserable so you may have to walk a bit but I think of it as a great escape.

Love the Bloody Mary's and Eggs Benedict

By BradlyD |

Kathy is the best! Ask for her section! Great food on the weekends! Beer on Tap! Great place to bring the kids and make sure you try the nutella french toast! Side of BACON please!

Great location - really good food - very good service - ticks all the boxes :-)

By David_P_M1 |

Partner and I visited here with a friend who recommends this place, took a cab from Castro, the area on the waterfront isa little run down and we were not too sure what to expect. You can usually tell from a restaurant what to expect based on the welcome. Ours was warm and friendly the host was looking after another couple and apologised for the short wait while she was away on two occasions waiters walked passed us acknowledged us and assured us we will be looked after asap - impressed by that!. After two minutes we were seated, the restaurant was busy but as there are great views that was not an issue. I love clam chowder and partner and I had a cup to start with - well it was one of the best I have eaten. I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad - delicious, partner had fish and chips - very good, fish cooked perfectly (I helped him out with the chips!). Looking at the food that was passing us going to other tables it looked delicious. I couldn't fault this place only in SFO for a few days but will make time to return!

Nice brunch

By Mark O |

Had a very nice breakfast! My raw oysters on the half shell were great. Very nice servers. Always attentive!

Great local experience.

By PismoLulu |

Casual outdoor breakfast that was delicious. Right on the water. Uber there then walk about 2,5 miles to the ferry building, passing giants stadium along the way. A great way to view SF from a waterfront vantage point. Our server, Andy, was delightful and had a happy positive attitude. Crab Louie was a crowd pleaser.

Fiesty birds but great food at The Ramp Resto, San Francisco

By CriticInOntario |

We met a friend for lunch at the Ramp Resto in San Francisco. Admittedly when we were approaching the area, we questioned our friend's choice since it really is along a non-gentrified part of the waterfront--pretty much an industrial area. Parking is on-site, just outside the waterfront patio restaurant. Once we walked in, we did notice really fat pigeons/seagulls looking to scavange anything they could reach, but servers are pretty quick to clear away dishes when patrons leave. Eating on the water is pretty relaxing and the outdoor decor is basic but comfortable. We had a burger (good, not great), the clam chowder (the best we've ever had), and a healthy serving of calamari. Portion sizes are pretty generous and prices aren't bad. Would recommend the place for lunch or drinks.

We loved it!

By TravelingShasha |

The Ramp is a perfect spot to enjoy a drink or a meal overlooking the bay and next to a dry dock. It isn't a fancy or a pretentious spot. They have plenty of outdoor seating. Shade in outdoor seating is very important to me and their outdoor seating had lots of umbrellas providing extensive shade. We had the Eggs Benedict with crab and it was delicious and they were very generous with the crab. It was a beautiful sunny day, however, I think it would be neat to be sitting in the indoor area during a storm. I would definitely go back. My tip is to arrive early if you want to be seated quickly.

Authentic old skool old the bay

By Spash_Gordon |

One of my fav spots. Thank god they have kept it simple and havnt glammed this place up. Im always surprised when people in SF dont know this place but i like that. Better parking, good seating, good good, great views! During an extended summer schedule they have an out door bbq starting around 5 or 6 and salsa dancing that starts at 7 with a good free for all family vibe.

Nice place for an outside meal

By Edouard T |

The place enjoys a nice court, very pleasant when sunny, in an harbour-like environment and atmosphere. The menu is simple but good, service is efficient. An excellent choice for Dogpatch residents, and even for people from all the Bay area. Chowder cream, truffle fries, fish n chips recommanded. Reasonable prices.

Breakfast alongside the boats

By trumancat |

This is a totally great place to be on a sunny day. Rustic outdoor dining right by the docks. Great relaxed, friendly social scene for large groups, families, couples etc.

It's Funky, it's on the water and its very San Francisco

By rassors |

This is not a tourist joint but it is a joint. Nestled amongst the soon the sadly disappearing ship repair facilities this is a true jem. On a warm morning, away from tourtists its where the local's go. You drive into a storage shed yard and keep walking towards the water. Good drinks, decent food, and music on weekends, call for times. Just a fun old San Francisco place.

Lovely Place

We popped in here for drinks and had a lovely time relaxing and enjoying the views made better by having the pup, who was made very welcome.

Our party of 15 had a great lunch at The Ramp. Service was very good as was the food. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The specials were excellent. Finding the Ramp can be a challenge but it’s worth the journey.

Great bay viewing

By Jennifer H |

Cute place with lots of outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and service was quick. My mom loved her strong Bloody Mary. We split the the ramp burger. It was overdone for a medium meat but still good. The fries were cooked perfectly. Lots of food to share!

Chill, cool, fun

By TASunde |

Relaxed place where what you see is what you get, yet a little more. It's just fun by the water with good service and food.

Blast from the past

By TaosMc |

My wife and I recently went to the Ramp, a sheik, San Francisco restaurant with a great view. We used to go there many years ago when it was a quaint, funky restaurant where all the locals went to meet. The restaurant has gone through about three renovations, ending in what is it now, a beautiful, trendy restaurant. The service was spectacular! The food was ok. One hint...Don't ever eat oysters not ending in an "R" month! I got sick from that little tasty appetizer. I had the crab and shrimp sandwich. I would have it again without the roll. The view more than made up for the gastric problems. I would recommend this restaurant, particularly to anyone who went there to meet people in the 70's and 80's. You will be surprised!

Solid place for lunch

By Jerry C |

Had a business lunch here around 1 PM on a Thursday. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the weather was nice so we decided to sit outside. The Ramp is located next to a working boat ramp so there is a nice nautical theme going on by the water. Also, there is really no parking at the restaurant so you will have to park along the street. We had no problems finding parking during lunch. Service was fast and friendly. I had the grilled fish of the day (salmon) in sandwich form and it came with fries. The food was great. They also have a decent beer selection and full bar menu. Prices were what you can expect from a restaurant along the water, a little bit much but not crazy. Would definitely return for future meals if I'm in the area.

Water frontage in an industrial setting

Menu was average, wait persons rude and loud and food, served cold and mediocre. Restaurant manager was less interested in customer service and enjoyment.

Scam Artists

By scaryhuman |

This restaurant lies to customers about the price of their food. Management misleads customers into believing that resterant set fees are a "tax" or a "mandate" when they are in fact neither. In short they are scam artists.

The Ramp Rules!!

By SurfTravelGuy |

I went to the Ramp recently with some business buddies of mine (who are regulars), and had a great time. Can't beat the location and view....SF Bay is great! Tables outside, enjoying the sun and fun.....it's hard to beat this place. A really good selection of beers on tap, drinks looked really good (I drank beer), and we had appetizers that were outstanding! (particularly the calamari). My buds always rave about the place, and they are not wrong! This is a great place. I would also have no problems whatsoever eating anything they have on the menu, as everything I saw looked fantastic!! DON'T go for the usual SF touristy spots....try a "real" spot in a real waterfront area. I would highly recommend this place if you want to have a great time.

The Ramp - Fun & Good Food

By Patrick P |

Great venue in the old Union Ironworks area. The Ramp sits on the water with great views. The food is excellent as is the service. The bar is full service and exudes the charm of San Francisco's blue collar heritage.

Iconic Waterfront

By JeriLG |

We stopped here before a Giants game on Sunday morning. The menu for breakfast goes until 3:00 pm and lunch is offered as well. We went with the burgers, vegetarian and regular. The service is very laid back. It took a while to get coffee and water. But the mood is laid back throughout and quite enjoyable. Limited parking.

Oysters and ribs!! Yummy!

By Dot J |

I'm in the 3rd St area near Mission Rock once a month for work .. and The Ramp is my favorite place to eat!! If SF were sunny all the time, the overall rating would be 5 since most of the tables are outside where you can watch boats coming and going while you eat. My friend loves the raw oysters (watch for the days when they are $1 each) and I love the BBQ ribs .. meat just falls off the bone. today I had the arrugala salad (with dried cranberries, candied walnuts and pulled chicken) with a light vinagrette that was so delicious. The burgers are great. I never tire eating here and have never had a bad meal. full bar service just adds another kick in it's favor.

OG SF!

By Jessica W |

You won't a better drink spot in SF, especially when the sun is out! Their amazing views and delicious spicy margaritas make a perfect afternoon with friends. The servers were nice and attentive. Lovely place to hang out.

What a great find!

By travelwithpam |

Stopped by for lunch today at a friends suggestion. Great place right out on the docks south of market area. I had the crab eggs Benedict. It was delicious. My friend had the lox & bagel with salmon. Tasty too. Great setting.

Great Bloody Mary

By cmpiper37 |

This is a fun scene. Hearty bartenders who can make deliciously yummy Bloody Mary’s. Friendly vide and throw back tunes!

Fun place to eat near the boats

By LandAndSea77 |

We enjoy eating near boats and water, and this place fit the requirements nicely. The food was excellent (shrimp louie and the fish and chips.) Service was a little slow as the waitstaff was quite busy. Insist on a table in the shade on a hot & sunny day. Parking seems to be a problem. Come in a small car and/or be prepared to park on street and walk. We've been there twice and would go again.

Off the beaten path~

By Pleschy |

A fun find, out of the way, on the water's edge. The food was good, but the novelty of the place was more the lure. Worth going to, when out exploring other parts of the city.

Worth a visit...

By Lindsay W |

Great location on the waterfront between Dogpatch and China Basin. Good staff, good service and on a sunny day youu will be hard pressed to find a better spot. Great for popping in for just a drink, or you can indulge yourself from the menu. No complaints on this one....worth a visit.

Our Pre drinks & food!

By Sheri L |

The food was AMAZING! This spot is the place to be especially for pre drinkz, before a big show. We enjoyed the atmosphere, service was great. We even got complimentary samplez and goodies from the Carona lady. We had an awesome time with our friends at your spot.

Cool outdoor space!

By RickLee0288 |

Good food, but better outdoor views of the bay. I had a view of an ocean liner and other cargo ships. Had an Angus burger with sweet potato fries...very good. Indoor space as well as covered potato space. I would definitely eat there again!

Saturday Brunch

By Mary L |

Last saturday after a trip to the Asian Art Museum to see the Terra Cotta Soldiers we sought out the The Ramp per a co-workers recommendation for lunch. The Ramp is located on the water front in a small commercial marina area about 3-5 blocks from the ball park. The weather was fabulous so we dined outside and enjoyed the sun. The view is not your typical marina view (there was a commercial barge in the background) but we did not mind at all. We arrived at 1:30pm and as we were on our way out the place was packed. Our server was pleasant and did a great job. We enjoyed the Make Your Own Mimosa's, Oyster Shooters (YUM), clams and mussels with chorizo (excellent) and the omelet with salmon and shrimp (delicious). I felt the place was very affordable for San Francisco. Laid back, easy going and off the beaten path, if you want something different while in the city this is where you need to go, not touristy.

Great Brunch Spot

By Gigi4SC |

Came in for a wedding over the weekend of August 8 and had Sunday brunch with friends. The egg dishes were delicious and the Ramp has some of the best Bloody Marys I've had. Great meeting place and easy to get to using public transportation. I'd like to see it rated higher on TripAdvisor, but on second thought maybe not. It's a great hidden gem.

Don't go here when they are about to close!~!!!

By Catwink41 |

I liked it a lot!!! If they are about to close, go next door to the FERRY BUILDING, where they have about a zillion places to eat. It is a feast in itself...when my children were teenagers, and wanted to try beer, the waitress at The Ramp brought them half a teacup of beer to try and a large plate of French fries!!!(She got a good tip for being a wise granny!!) They did not turn out to be drunks!!! We had good food. The scenery is wonderful!! You can wave to Berkeley across the water!!

Bar for kids

By amylfed |

This is a decent place to go and hang out with friends. It's very laid back and casual, mainly college-aged kids. It's definitely more of a bar than it is a restaurant, you have to stand in line at the bar and order yourself, both food and drinks. Everything is fairly sticky and I would absolutely avoid using the bathrooms, probably some of the most disgusting I've ever seen. Looked like most people missed pretty badly.

Pleasant Outdoor Sunday Brunch

By Stewart B |

I arrived in SF after week's drive from NY. My 2 sons live in SF, and took me to this place for Sunday brunch. Neighborhood is deceiving, as it's slightly decaying waterfront with view of giant docked tanker that looks like it's been there for decades, but still you're on the water, the sun was shining, the breeze was great, and the food was terrific! Large outdoor seating area, buzzing with families and couples, very appealing atmosphere. Everything prepared very well, omelets, bacon, toast, burgers, etc. We 3 men shared carrot cake dessert; it was huge, deliciously fresh, and more than enough, served with fresh whipped cream. Coffee was exceptional. A very, very good dining experience for the price. When I'm back, I'll definitely return to The Ramp.

Not bad!

By tattersall_12 |

Had lunch on Sunday here and it was not bad! The parking was easy and location was awesome! We enjoyed the view of the city and the bay. We had a bloody Mary, Irish coffee, and hazel nut something and they were STRONG and good. We had the clam chowder, Daniela scramble, and eggs Benedict which were all delicious. The prices were somewhat reasonably priced. Our server was attentive. Overall, not a bad experience.

Great meal

By DANIELSUDAR |

We love this spot, we came here for quick bite before circus du soleil. We had a mangorita and pomegranate margarita, both our drink was really good. Then we had crab cakes, chicken tenders and guacamole. It was really good. Come for weekend brunch, this place is fun with a great view.

Sunny bayside location with an interesting view and yummy calamari.

By Johnzane |

At first glance, The Ramp does not impress, it reminds me of a rummy wharf saloon that took itself for a fern bar back in the 70's, and never left. Judging by the local bears who crowd the rails during Happy Hour, you'd be hard pressed to disagree. Yet the place exudes a rustic charm that, in spite of the uneven floors threatening to topple even the smartest well-heeled martini-tot, in the open air lanai, speaks to the Hemingway in all of us. If you squint your eyes, just so, you can pretend you're on the coast of Nice. It's the working girls that catch your eye here, bright and cheery waitresses (what did you think I meant?) who will steer you to the most popular items on the menu, including a boutique beer to wash down the crispiest, most succulent calamari this side of Fisherman's Wharf. You might expect that if they get the squid right, anything else deep fried is going to be a treat, and you would not be wrong. Many dishes come with french fries, including the fish, mussels, and burgers, and there is more than enough to share. In fact, sharing is the best way to go, unless you can't bear to give up any of your juicy barbecue baby back ribs. My partner and I, who often settle into a routine, order the ribs and a cobb or pear salad, which is just enough for two. Not big on beer, we enjoy Vodka or Gin tonics, while admiring the sweep of blue horizon, the ruins of a nearby wharf, and the monstrous sea going ships blocking half the view. The crewmen can often be seen hanging on scaffolds, seeing to the outer hull, and they make for an interesting view. The weather on Potrero Hill is considered the best in San Francisco, warm, dry, and still, which makes this an excellent destination on clear, sunny days, and the best alternative to braving the tourists closer to downtown. There are dry tables inside the bar on stormy days, which have their own special charm, and I only wish there were a fireplace to sit around and sip hot toddies. Take the 280 Mariposa off ramp and head straight down to 3rd street till you see the Ramp sign. Or cruise along 3rd to Mariposa and turn towards the bay. If they're full up at the Ramp, and you don't want to wait, walk a little ways to the right and find Kelly's Mission Rock Cafe. Similar menu, more Mexican fare.

Lunch by the Bay

By Steve N |

Spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying drinks and lunch by the Bay. Comfort food menu and sea food ( burgers, fish and chips etc.) I had a nice Cobb salad which was nicely prepared. They also serve oysters and shrimp Louis etc. They have a full bar and a very large outside dinin b area.Wonderful way to spend a beautiful afternoon. When San Francisco weather is at its best this is a great place for an outside lunch.

Great view, shame about the service

By Jon H |

Wonderful outdoor deck by the water with a broad view of the bay, sheltered from the wind. The T-line stop nearby. Service is slow to bad: I was told at the bar that I could not order food there, and had to sit and wait for my server, who then told me I had to order at the bar, which again told me to see my server, and someone finally took an order. When it arrived, the burger tasted as if the poor cattle had been run over by a tank and then set alight with gasoline.

Locals spot on the water

By Jake C |

It’s important to set expectations appropriately when hanging out at a locals spot. And, in a town full of top notch food, food isn’t necessarily why folks come here. That being said, the food is pretty darn good. What’s great is the location (and the drinks). Hidden at the end of a short pier, behind a non descript storage facility, you’ll find the restaurant tucked away along the waters edge. On a sunny day, this place gets packed. Bring your shades, and sunscreen. Cheers!!!

Fantastic Setting

By Dealmaker |

On a clear and sunny day you can not beat the absence of The Ramp. It is real harbor side San Francisco looking over a dry dock area. Some of the scenes from the movie Blue Jasmine were filmed at the ramp. The food is average and a bit expensive, but the whole experience is worth it. Expect a wait and enjoy a wine or beer on the patios outside the bar.

Surprisingly expensive for a bar but try Taco Tuesday

By maryofnavarre |

Restaurant selections are surprisingly expensive for a not particularly fancy restaurant. Taco Tuesday, however, is a bargain. $3 for a chicken, pork or fish taco and a nice condiment bar to dress it up.

A San Francisco Gem!

By Rishi V |

The Ramp is a San Francisco gem! We've been going there for years. An amazing sunny deck overlooking the Bay, killer drinks, and great food! They opened up the space even more with their recent renovations in 2020, and our kids now love going there too (the corn hole game helps!). We'll go there again and again whenever we want to have a quintessential San Francisco experience!

Beers by the bay

By daniellegibsonevents |

Dont get too excited about the menu. I thought there would be raw oysters and beer boiled shrimp-like things. Nope...But a good selection of beer on tap and a great location to relax outside on a nice day. Even though those are numbered in SF they are in a nice city microclimate and it felt like Florida last time I was there! Fun spot.

Hidden treasure with a fabulous view!

By TJJapan |

Great place for a drink on the deck! Waterfront location is perfect - there's no table service so you have to wait in a long line to order at the bar, the food will be delivered to your spot. Happy hour specials - the day we were there, it was $6 chicken quesadillas - which were gooey and perfect with the beers.

Parking lot, located on the water

By pretitle9 |

If you want to go to the water to an informal relatively inexpensive place this might be a choice. The view to the water is mainly big ships which pull in nearby to be repaired. We had the seafood chowder which was mediocore at best, a ceasar salad about the same. Probably the burgers or maybe fish & chips are better. Parking lot is free which a big plus for SF.

Rude "Staff" at the entrance

By Mobile42466553825 |

I went to go for a simple dinner with my lady and some people who didn't even look like they work there asked what we were doing here and demand a $15 cover charge from each of us if we wanted to enter. Sketchy and rude staff. We left because it would have been a terrible waste of money. Go somewhere else.

Fresh oysters

By Vicki T |

This place is what makes San francisco so incredible! It overlooks the east bay with a view of the sailboats and bridge. For lunch or brunch you cannot go wrong. The oysters were inexpensive and fresh and the eggs Benedict were also delicious. I have never had a long wait here either although parking can be difficult at times.

Great outdoor patio, for lunch or brunch!

By Lorraine M |

This is a great place to sit in the sun and have a view of the water in SF. It is not a fancy marina view, but a ship harbor view that is protected from the wind for the most part. Food is good, drinks are great!!

Locals go to spot!

Took a afternoon drive to Kennebunkport and everyone one we asked told us to have lunch at The Ramp. We were not disappointed. Service was delightful. Our waiter helped recommend our lunch choices. My favorite was the crab cakes. The views were amazing ....loved all the campaign signs. Go and enjoy!

Nice Place to Sit Outdoors

By Lia T |

Here on a sunny day - can sit outdoors and enjoy the weather, but do bring a layer or two, just in case, as it can get cool. Breakfast served till 3pm. I had the french toast consisting of large, thick triangular cut slices of delicious bread. I prefer mine more toasty and crispy so I ate mostly the edges. There was plenty and I had takers to share the rest with. Comes with seasonal fruit, in my case, banana slices, blueberries and sliced strawberries. Friends had chilequiles (delicious)and burgers, salads, fish & chips and more. The french fries are crisp and excellent. We were a large group. Service was polite but seemed confused. One order never came. Another came without utensils. We were told to wait in a crowded area when there was no reason to and the area we were to be seated in was completely empty with several seats and tables and the crowded area had smaller parties who could have sat down while they waited for seating if our party had been allowed to sit in the area set aside for us. Wait time when we arrived was 20-30 minutes, then became 45 minutes as more parties arrived for lunch. Notes: parking and driving in and out of the small parking lot can be challenging, but once you are in, sitting out in the patio is pleasant. There is indoor seating available, but I've always opted for outdoors. Might want to wear a hat or sit under one of the umbrellas as getting bombed by a seagull is a definite possibility

Delicious Pulled Pork

By NapiliR |

Really close to SF Boat Works so if you're leaving your sailboat for repairs this restaurant is easy to get to. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious and served with good fries. Also, breakfast is served until 3 PM, so it's a great choice if you have different food desires among your sailing crew.

Would love to keep this place a secret

By Steven J |

We ate at the Ramp on a picture-postcard San Francisco day. The patio is fantastic. Food was good, pretty straightforward pub food. Service was excellent. A bit pricey, but it's San Francisco. Everything is pricey. The place was pretty crowded on an early Sunday afternoon. Would love to keep this place under the radar, but I think that's no longer an option. Would definitely recommend.

Great, Waterfront Restaurant

By Kim |

The Ramp has become a favorite of ours, especially with our frequent doctors visits to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital which is in close proximity. There is free parking (a rarity) on site, and indoor/ outdoor seating which is a particularly delightful option when the weather is gorgeous and sunny. The food is very good, and my son, the clam chowder conissour, rates this clam chowder as one of his favorites in the entire city, at a 4.7. Dollar raw oyster days are a great time to swing in for a bite!

bad salsa DJ

By Luis C |

the place is nice ,menu good , the live salsa music was great but the Dj sucks he doesn't play salsa music ,i guess he don't like it but he is supposed to play it for the paying costumers .he needs to go . if ou are a real salser dancer you'll be disappointed because the Dj play anithyng but salsa . i do not recommended for serious salsa dancers

Perfect "day after" spot

By Von_Oben |

Burgers, calamari, clams. Something for everyone here. What a great spot to brunch or lunch (I have done both), if you arrive by boat, you can tie up at the next door boat yard and walk the few steps over. Great Bloody's and Eggs Benedict (week-ends only, which is a shame!). I can highly recommend the ramp! And I will be coming back!

Terrible service experience!

By Covadonga A |

The Ramp has an spectacular view, and we wanted to enjoy lunch, we arrived and wait for almost 30 minutes for the table and when our turn come, the hosstess, told us that she cannot give us the table because there were two missing people that couldn´t arrive because there was a race in front of the restaurant, those are the rules from The Ramp, we wanted to drink something, after so much time waiting with two kids, but she was inflexible, THOSE ARE THE RULES, I CANNOT GIVE YOU THE TABLE, we want to consume and we could wait for the other two that arrive 10 minutes later. I would never go to this place, I asked for a Caipirinha, but there was no ingrediente to made it, the fish and chips were huge and cold... What happened? hopefully some partner read this and try to avoid people who doesn´t care about customer, if they are thirsty, have kids and there is a marathon running in front of the restaurant

Brunch with friends

By Lex Latimer |

Wow what a great place for food and drinks. We went there with our friends and had a great meal and the service was great. Had one of my best lunches there thanks for the hospitality.

Great fun on a beautiful day

By Amy x |

We arrived shortly after they opened so we didn't wait for a table which was lucky since my son says there's usually a wait. The atmosphere is so much fun. Right on the water. Both big and little ships to watch. Umbrellas over every table which are crowded together but really only a hardship for the wait staff as they zoom around. I ordered the corned beef hash which came with huge chunks of corned beef and deliciously fresh eggs. There was a great promo of a split of sparkling wine with OJ for $20: a great bargain I thought. It was a beautiful day to be eating outside by the water, eating tasty food. I'd definitely recommend it for a fun time.

Casual waterfront location - fun place to spend an afternoon

By Maria O |

Many years ago this was the place for friends to gather and enjoy on the weekends. It is still a very nice and relaxing place to sit and have a leisurely lunch or brunch overlooking the water. When we visited, it was a beautiful warm day - just perfect for a leisurely brunch. We arrived around 12:45 and they quoted a 30 minute wait (it was only a 10 minute wait). We were given table on the rail overlooking the water which was terrific. We ordered our drinks and ordered the shrimp and crab louie and the large bowl of clam chowder. Both dishes were very good and I especially liked how fresh the salad was! They had a large party/concert going on so the place was very busy. The parking situation is tough in that area so taking Muni would be a good idea. This is a rustic restaurant/bar but the location makes up for it. Bathrooms could us some work. Great place especially in the daytime when you can overlook the water and enjoy the scenery.

San Francisco Carnaval parade 2016

By RussianDance |

The Ramp is a great place to sit outside in the sun in SF, watch the game (inside), grab a few drinks, dance to live music on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon with friends and family. They pretty good food for brunch until the early afternoon and then the grill is open for the rest of night. I performed here with Grupo Samba Rio/Energia do Samba right after the SF Carnaval 2016.

Great venue...

By chalmem |

...and FANTSTIC BloodyMary. Unfortunately one of the worst fish&chips I've eaten (and as a northern English man I've eaten a few). Highly recommend that you go there.

We love this place

Muscles & Clams by the bay...

By Bill A |

The Ramp is a very "Salty" bayside pub. Authentic nautical atmosphere surrounded by boats on the water with fabulous outdoor patio for sunny afternoons. Nothing fancy about this pub, but great food enthusiastic service and down to earth prices. My favorite menu item is muscles and Manila clams with chorizo in white wine sauce. They drizzle a bit of cream sauce over the pile to make it an ample portion of wonderfully spiced, beautifully prepared bivalves for $14.50. Pleanty of good beers on tap.

Hidden gem on the Bay

The ramp in located on the water. Food is excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient. Always a good time. Weekends they have live music.

Great out of the way spot

A really nice place for lunch

By sicuani |

I was invited to lunch on March 31st by two friends and really enjoyed the setting and the food. The view is beautiful, the service attentive, even though the restaurant had a number of guests all arrive at about the same time. I had the fish and chips which was delicious, three ample pieces of cod, which was nicely breaded. One of my colleagues had the guacamole and salsa, and the other had the clam chowder which was creamy and chock full of clams. It is a nice place to linger and I would definitely come back. The person who invited me to lunch has been going to the Ramp for years. I see why. Would definitely return on my next trip to San Francisco. I looked over at the table right next to ours and saw huge plates of calamari that I will definitely try the next time I return.

A Slice of Old San Francisco

By E-SFO |

Out of the summer fog and into the sun at The Ramp. You'll feel miles away from the bustle of the city as you sit on the outside deck, viewing huge docked sailboats on one side, and currently unused buildings from long-gone shipping days on the other side. The ships on the bay beckon as they approach the new section of the Bay Bridge. Lunch was delightful, with good food, good service, and no rush as all on a pleasant week day. The daily special is definitely worth checking out. Enjoy a step back in time.

Average

By isletripper |

The atmosphere was strange, as it was a dive bar with a restaurant setting. I had the steak with chimichurri sauce while the person dining with me had the fish and chips. It was disappointing, and I was starving so it should have tasted decent to me at that point. Service was quick, but will not be returning.

Weekend lunch

By Jason S |

The Ramp may seem a little rough around the edges, and in a slightly strange part of town, but for those who like to take their dog with them, this place is great. Good water view and frontage. Good appealing and uncomplicated food with a good range of beers. It can get a little cold if the wind blows, but a spot out the back in the sun will fix that. The service can be a bit patchy, but it's a fun experience.

Relaxing Place for a Sunny Day

By NancySF |

We happened upon The Ramp while down in the Dogpatch area of San Francisco. We arrived around 2PM and had a dog with us. They said they didn't really allow dogs, but when we entered there was another dog there too. The seating area is mostly outside, along the waterfront, but it is not a lovely view. We sat on the stage, in the shade, which was quite nice. Our server was very nice, contrary to what others have said about their servers. Service was fast and efficient. We had the guacamole and chips which was excellent. We ordered a crab salad (large and good), but just crab and lettuce. We had fish and chips (fish was fresh and great, fries not very exciting, but an order of onion rings was very good!) Someone else had j Huevos Rancheros and it was good, not quite what was expected with a fried egg on top of a tortilla, served with refried beans and rice. Drinks were 3 beers and one iced tea. We also had one oyster shooter. The bill, with a nice tip was about $125 which we thought was a tad high, but the atmosphere was great, service great and we will definitely go back there again.

Wonderful Place for an Early Breakfast

By Nadya Pajarillo |

The Ramp is one of my favorite places in San Francisco for having an early breakfast or lunch on Saturdays. It's funky, it's on the water and it's very San Francisco. But I'll be honest with you, when my hubby took me there for the first time, I was terrified... At first glance this place doesn't impress at all... old, wooden, destroyed, weird, in the middle of nowhere basically. But oh my, I'm loving it now so much! Even through the food is very simple and basic, very unhealthy, nothing super special or fancy, the atmosphere is really nice with the true character of my favorite city. Very relaxed. I totally would feel OK to go wearing pajamas, sunglasses, with no make-up and feeling myself as at home. The Ramp is right on the bay, next to a boat yard and huge ship retrofit facility with views of the boats, bay and Bay Bridge. Almost all of the tables are outside on the deck and you would think that it's just a perfect place for a sunny day, but believe it or not, I love this place when the purple fog covers the bay. Warm tea or a Mimosa as well as friendly service make this place immediately so very special and unique. Watching the water, birds and boats in the warm embrace of the man of my life is the best start of my weekend no matter what! And if you come early enough you may enjoy not just the silence, but also the sound of the ships and the distant blast of a foghorn...it's my favorite part of the whole ritual of breakfast at The Ramp. Here is also a short video I made to show the atmosphere of this place: http://www.nadyassideoftheroad.com/2012/07/weekends-in-san-francisco-ramp.html

As good a place to find on a sunny weekend morning. Sit inside or out and enjoy the view of the bay. Breakfast was fantastic and service was great!

Great water view, relaxing local joint

By pcg123 |

We went here after work with a group of 12 and they easily accommodated us out side. Good drinks and great pub grub... Bacon wrapped prawns... Taco Tuesday, all kinds of goodies. This an off the beaten path great local joint.

Great Location and Good Food

By TheBel |

A group of us had lunch with wine (corkage $15). Very laid back with a view from the boat yards perspective. Wait staff is attentive without being invasive. Our group ate fish and chips, fish tacos, ramp burger and Caesar salad. I wish the wine glasses were of better quality . Monday and Thursday are $1.00 oyster day. Parking is difficult with all the construction at Mission Bay. Very nice San Francisco experience.

A jewel on the bay

By Ray S |

This bar/restaurant is an old joint, a dive even, that seems to defy age. It's location in the old industrial waterfront has its charm for the locals. Unfortunately, so much of the area has been gentrified over the years and little by little, its old isolated feel among the rusted, aging stevedoring infrastructure is giving way to progress, If you're from out of town, this is a great local place to hit to get the flavor of the old San Francisco waterfront.

Great little spot

By Kaibacha |

Hidden food and cocktail bar. Came here for a bloody mary. The place is clean and everyone seemed to be enjoyinh themselves. The bloody mary was spicy and pleasing. I would recommend this place for some casual food and a drink.

nice view and good food

hidden venue by the bay, like a secret pearl to find! this spot is very good to have a breakfast/brunch by the bay fed with the view of the sea, ships....so relaxing Friendly staff Very good food (give a try to the salads)

A local gem

By Rodrigo V |

The views from this location are awesome, the place is well known by the entire community that is into boats and sailing due to the fact of its proximity to the Bay View Boat Club and the Mariposa Yacht Club. If you wanna feel like a local head to The Ramp and enjoy above average food (the portobello sandwich is the bomb) but beyond amazing service.

What is that treatment towards your guests!!!!

By Ilgass Q |

Horrible experience we arrive with boat from the bay, the sketchy guy who does not look legit at all says, they can not let us in due to liability as if what is the worst you can cause at a restaurant? and what is the difference with walk in and coming from a bot that that guy whoever he is does not recognize therefore does not approve. We were 6, 3 very old, it was so disrestpectful and nonsense. I would highly recommend skipping going there and going next door, as even that guy was telling us to go next door. And whoever is that guy in Nasa suit, thinking he owns the place, I suggest teaching him some communication skills if he wants to pursue his career in restaurant he better realize it involves other people and he should be greeting them. not firing them.

Well?

By Jeffrey B |

The service was very good. But the food..... greasy fish and chips, flavorless salmon, and good onion rings!

Great Outdoor Casual Restaurant

By Golda99 |

When the weather is lovely in San Francisco, The Ramp is the place to go for a burger, fish and chips, a salad, and drinks. My husband and I always enjoy dining at this lively jewel of a restaurant.

casual place to hang out...

casual place to hang out by the Bay..off the beaten track. Good for brunch

Average at best

By Karen H |

Not sure what all the raves were about for this place as we did not have that experience. The food was average at best but the most annoying were some other customers that had sat on the patio area a good 25 feet from the designated smoking area where we went after lunch & before leaving. While seated there a gal came up & said that she knew we were in our own space but she had children over there (pointing) & they could smell the smoke! We politely told her when we were done we would leave & she walked away. Not 5 minutes later here comes another totally up tight new mother stating she had a nine month old baby over there & he could smell the smoke! I nearly choked laughing! I wanted to ask her if her baby liked the smell of all the smog in the air or if he minded the unnatural hair dye (chemicals) that were applied to her beanny little head! It was totally ridiculous & then the hostess came over & asked us if we were almost done, that they had complained. I should have complained about the dogs on the deck AND in the area where food was being served. I understood the hostesses situation but even she should have told them we are within our rights to smoke in the designated area!!! Disappointed!!

Gorgeous views; decent seafood selection

By traveller2332 |

Definitely try to get a spot on the patio with the gorgeous ocean front views. Food was decent. Nothing spectacular (not by SF standards). Definitely a great spot for happy hour!

A great escape from the bustle of the city!

By mmueller49 |

Local favorite gathering place with good food and great indoor / better outdoor seating. A great respite from Michelin Star Restaurants and touristy attractions especially for those fortunate enough to be in SF for a longer stay. Perfect for a Saturday or Sunday Brunch / Lunch, especially if seeking sunshine.
