Business lunch paid by the other party who had a cheeseburger that looked good. I had a fish lunch special. I did not understand the species from the waiter but ordered it. I was able to figure out the species by its shape, texture, and flavor. It was rectangle leatherfish. Ketchup helped. But for its shape, it could have been used as a hockey puck. I wondered if they had exposed it to radiation to get any residual flavor out of it. The side of asparagus and other unidentified long things was way undercooked and thus could have been used as small hockey sticks. We had some calamari up front that was quite good so I am not rating the place as terrible.

We visit this restaurant probably once or twice a month. I think it continues to get better with each visit. The service is always attentive and professional. The restaurant is busy, but quiet enough to have a nice conversation. Last night I had the Halibut special. It was so good! My husband had the trout, and it too was delicious. My son had the blackened catfish and he ate every bite. I like to order the peanut butter pie, but didn’t last night, but I think it is the absolute best dessert in Houston! Raven Grill also has great coffee, and their cappuccinos are perfect. This is one of the few restaurants that reliably offer skim milk! (Thank you!). There is a parking lot, no valet but there is no issue finding space. A delicious and reliable alternative in the Museum District area.

Enjoyed all of the food I have had here and the people are very friendly. I've been here several times in the last month and have never had to wait. Nice patio too!

I ate at the Raven Grill with my business team. The outdoor eating area was well suited for our group and was well ventilated and remarkably cool for an 81degree night. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. We had a variety of meals and everyone was very pleased with their selections. The pecan crusted Tilapia was excellent.

We went for dinner and I had trout that was served with lentils. The trout was adequate but the lentils had no taste at all. However the waiter did a very good job and the food came out quickly. It was a rainy night but they still had a decent crowd.

For locals a treasure, for visitors a total find! Great atmosphere--very attractive--great service. Favorites include the fried blue corn oysters and the southwest grilled shrimp salad. Good wine list and reasonably priced.

The food was quite good. The blackberry crisp devine! Festive atmosphere with couples, families, groups, etc. Definitely worth visiting.

Decided to stop in on the spur of the moment. We sat outside in thier quaint garden patio. We split a salad, had 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine and it hit the spot. Enjoyed the menu and perusing a decent wine list. Salad was robust and larger than expected. Salmon steak was perfect. Chicken Enchiladas were good but a touch dry, mainly due to the tortilla. However, the salsa made up for it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here and the "other chocolate cake" was to die for with cinnamon ice cream on the side. Nice atmoshere on a tree-lined residential street with plenty of parking, near Rice University and the Museum district. Attentive service, diverse menu and a wood-fired grille in view of the diners. Prices were reasonable and we'd like to try it for dinner. Highly recommended!

great burgers, 2 dollar lone star pints

Nothing special about the restaurant but food is good and service is also good. The steak is really expensive but apart from this prices are reasonable for that area.

Ate lunch here with two co-workers based on their recommendation. We were promptly seated/served and everyone enjoyed their meal. One co-worker had soup of the day, a hearty beef and barley, while the other had a fresh Caesar Salad. I had the pecan crusted chicken and thought it was excellent. It was a large tender breast and the breading never separated as I sliced it. The grilled sweet potato was slightly under-cooked but not the point it was disappointing. I will definitely return here, either for lunch or dinner. One word of caution. It is in a neighborhood and shares parking with two other businesses. If you know anything about parking in Rice Village this parking presents the same challenge.

We've gone there several times over the past and have yet to be disappointed by the food or the service. While it isn't gourmet food, it is very good food that is worth the trip. We tend to gravitate towards a place due to a particular dish or dishes we enjoy and here it is the pasta primavera. Spinach and egg noodles served with julienned vegetables in a light broth with shaving of parmesan cheese, delightful and delicious. Other dishes such as the portobello mushroom "burger" are very good as is the grilled cheese sandwich, a construction of cheese, tomato and pesto that is great. The only fault I have found is with the onion rings - they were coated in a batter that was difficult to penetrate with a knife. They seemed rather hard. However, everything else was wonderful. The menu is actually fairly extensive for such a small place and has something for just about everyone from vegetarians to carnivores. Highly recommended if you have the time.

Had a business meeting here and was pleasantly surprised Really good food for the whole group and service was excellent

Place is nice enough. Service is good. Even though the menu does provide a lot of options, nothing really caught my eye. To be fair to the place, I have no specific complaints. Every thing is ...fine.

Great restaurant with excellent service. Every time I have been here the waitstaff recommends items. They are always excellent!

Love this place.

amazing

Been going here for years - it always delivers great food and fine service. Menu is very robust : cedar plank salmon, pot roast, meatloaf, fish tacos, enchiladas, and burgers. I usually go on Wednesday for the meatloaf special. Best meatloaf this side of my Grandma's. Perfect spicing and overlay of tomato sauce. Accompanied by mashed potatoes and green beans with red pepper. Heavenly!! Salmon also very fine. Desserts outstanding. My cheesecake with drunken cherries was the best dessert I have had this year. Overall ambiance is intimate with the low level of lighting. Not noisy - easy to maintain a normal conversation. Parking in front -- no need for valet.

DISAPPOINTED in the overall dining experience - I ordered a Caesar Salad with grilled salmon, a good staple & should have been skillfully executed - both were quite Unremarkable. The salad dressing was skimpy & not tossed throughout...what?....a very small amount drizzled on top. Asked for more caesar dressing - The salmon was nothing special - asked for tartar sauce to enhance the nothing special fish. Marks will be given to the croutons - the seed bread - jalapeno tartar sauce - the friendly staff....but the essential meal was totally off-mark. That's the best I can say about a Very unremarkable meal.....An off-nite, maybe, but with so many wonderful restaurants in Houston, it will be my Last.

Just wanted to share a great restaurant in Houston. We Houston often and there are many great restaurants there, but the Raven Grill never fails to be terrific. From seafood, to the sweet potato enchiladas (one of their favorites) it is great. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality of the food. The bar is good and the outside seating is where you want to be if you want to have conversation with friends. Houston is hot, but in the evening it is shaded by greenery and has fans. Perfect. Located in the West University area, it is close to everything you might want to do afterwards. Highly recommend. Does not take reservations unless you are a party of 6+, but you can call when you are leaving your place to get on the wait list. We have never waited longer than 20 minutes. It is ALWAYS GOOD.

Wow! I've lived in the Houston area for years, but now I have new favorite! This restaurant is amazing! Hubby had the salmon quesadillas, I had salmon salad and we started with the tuna carpaccio. We were not disappointed. We had our 3 year old and 1 year old with us. It was a great family atmosphere (we ate early, at 5pm) and they have a lovely patio. We will absolutely go back!

Good food; homey atmosphere; reasonable prices. An easy choice but not high on our "let's go back" list.

Nice restaurant, service was ok, a bit pricey but the food was good and the atmosphere was good as well. Outdoor dining area that is covered. Small parking area.

Found this place on urbanspoon. It was close by and looked like a good value. Which it was. At first I thought it might have some service issues as I was facing the open grill area. But, there were no issues there. I think they could have planned better on placement of waitstaff and not having them have tables in different areas. As that can spread them too far. Grilled Salmon was a nice serving size for the price.

Nice place in Houston's most interesting neighbourhood. No reservations taken for less than two people, but never ran into a completely full house. Outdoor seating is nice, perhaps with the exception of the headlights of the cars moving about on the parking lot, but then hey,Houston is one big parking lot so hard to escape. Good wine list for reasonale prices, we had a pretty good Malbec for less than thirty. Food imaginative and not too expensive for the quality offered. Overall warmly recommended for casual dinn with a relaxed but upscale crowd.

The outdoor patio is a good place to share a meal and have a glass of wine with friends

Wide range of selections and several specials. Nice wine list. Small but cozie. Service was good but the food was exceptional. All at a reasonable price. Nice find.

We got here fairly early for lunch. The place is crowded during lunch. The quality of food is outstanding. Lots to choose from and everything is made fresh. Service was outstanding also. Great place to socialize and have a good meal.

We visited this restaurant for dinner with the family before going to the Miller Outdoor Theatre. I had not been able to make a reservation for the 4 of us but there was not a problem and we got a table on arrival. The atmosphere is great and I like the patio area, although we couldn't eat out there. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The descriptions of food on the menu were great, but when the food arrived it didn't quite live up to expectations. It was not bad, just not great either. I would probably give it another chance as it was so convenient for the Theatre which we love going to and the prices were good.

Location is right in the neighborhood. All the homes have a lot of characters so worth a quick walk in the neighborhood if during the day. We made reservation for Saturday night and they were very busy. Food was great and there was no complaint from anyone in our group. They were very accomodating to kids. I have the Cedar Plant Salmon which was cooked to perfection. Parking can ben an issue....we got lucky.

Upon the recommendation of a friend, who has dined at the Raven Grill on a number of occasions, I had dinner at this neighborhood restaurant. There was sufficient parking for this restaurant, and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The mixed green salad was fresh and the pecan crusted chicken was outstanding. This is a great little restaurant.

We stopped in for lunch earlier this week & were so pleased with every aspect of our meal! We sat on the patio, which was very nice, not too hot, even in the middle of July. Neville (sp?), our server, was a pro- very helpful but not over bearing- his reccomendations were spot-on! We split a bowl of the Special soup as an app (sweet potato-ancho, I believe) - Wonderful! DH had the Catfish Special, which was outstanding, & I stuck to a bacon cheeseburger... Also a great choice! it's obvious that the people here take a lot of pride in their establishment. It's clean, has a great vibe, and and their attention to detail shows! We will def be returning, with friends in tow next time. As long as nothing changes, I can see this being one of our new Favorites when in the area- What a Find!!!

Been to Raven Grill four times, had a different entre each time and totally enjoyed each meal. Interesting is the Sampler Platter which has about 7 different items, all good, and a lot of food (get a doggie bag). Fried oysters are one of my favorites. Nice desserts (if you still have room). Can be crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, reservations for minimum 6 persons. Prices are reasonable.

Dropped by this restaurant after hearing a lecture at the Museum of Fine Arts on Urbanism by Richard Florida. Great talk followed by a great dinner. Waitress and hostesses were very nice and attentive. We had a nice inexpensive bottle of white wine (Viognier). I had the pecan crusted chicken. Very tasty. The sweet potatoes were a little much. Couldn't eat them all. Green beans very al dente! Others had fish and enchiladas. Nice little neighborhood restaurant.

The menu isn't innovative but it's diverse enough and most of the dishes are well executed with quality ingredients. Service is generally good and it has a nice ambience with original art on the walls and subtle lighting. On a cooler evening the outdoor seating area is one of the nicest in Houston.

For the longest time I have resisted writing a review of the Raven Grill because...well...I't just as soon it not get any more crowded than it already is at peak hours. This has been a favorite of my wife and myself for years. During that time, there has been relatively little change in the menu. Why change a really good thing? And lately we have taken to having brunch there on Sunday (they open at 11 AM which is after church for us) and find the experience every bit as enjoyable as our customary dinner experience. On weeknights Bill is the bartender and he makes some of the best cocktails in town. The wine list is top notch and reasonably priced, with fine selections by the glass. You simply can't go wrong at the Raven Grill. If you read a less than exemplary review here on TripAdvisor, well, it probably means that the reviewer was having a bad day.

This is the third time I have had lunch at the Raven. I have not been disappointed in the service or the food. And each time I was there, the manager made table rounds to assure service/ food expectations were being met. Prices are reasonable too. Will be there again.

Met a good friend to catch up on life on the patio at the Raven....is as nice as it always has been. Great food, good service. Comfortable other dining parties....parking tight as always vand a pain to get back on bissonet but worthwhile dining.

We have been loyal customers of the Raven for years but have probably had our last meal there due to the poor quality control of the food. Entrees are over cooked and served cold. Chicken breasts are dry and old. The managers and wait staff are very nice but the owners need to drop in more often to check out the kitchen. There are waitstaff that have been working there for months and never met the owners! Such a shame as the restaurant is very neighborly and convenient but the food and reviews are not up to par and no one seems to care.

Not that great of a selection, but nice atmosphere. The food is only so-so.

We lunch at the Raven Grill 5+ times a year and in the past have had enjoyable meals with attentive long term servers. Today's lunch had all the attentiveness of a fast food establishment. Server brought bread with thumb squarely in middle of the plate. Dishes were cleared with out inquiring if it was okay to do so, glasses refilled without asking and even when requested not to since we were leaving - so much for listening to your guests. Bright spot was the service of one of the longer term waitresses, solicitous and professional. NOT what it used to be.

Raven grill is one of my favorite dinner spots in Houston. The food and the service are always fantastic. The Raven tacos and pecan crusted chicken are my favorites. The crowd is slightly older and seems to be busiest around 7 pm. We usually go around 8 pm and have no trouble getting a table.

A local lunch or dinner will find you seeing lots of your neighbors enjoying a wonderful meal. It's rare to have a great hamburger with a great glass of wine but that's what you get at the Raven Grill. A full menu will be enjoyed by all.

If you are looking for fine and authentic dishes, with obviously a sincere food lover behind the stove, stop looking, try the Raven Grill! A friend brought us there for a weekend lunch and we were delighted. Nice atmosphere, some lovely outdoor seating, friendly service and, most importantly: excellent food from the appetizer to the dessert. The tuna carpaccio was fine and light: excellent opening. I chose the roast pot and I let's say it: I had not yet eaten a dish in the US that reminded me so much of authentic French country food, including in Houston's fancy French restaurants. It was just Good. We also tasted the carrot cake and the 'other' chocolate dessert and they were delicious. We will be back to try other dishes, that's for sure!!!!

I had dinner there (twice) last week while at a conference. The food was excellent. They certainly had the best vegetarian platter I have ever had.

This lovely restaurant is located just on the edge of Rice Village and is easily accessible. Have seen for years, but just decided to try on a whim and was not disappointed. The wait staff was knowledgable & attentive. Menu had a wide variety of items to choose from. Sampled three appetizers & enjoyed a lovely glass of wine. Will be returning here soon. Don't know why it took so long for me to try it.

Service was fine (although I tend to agree with teh Yelp reviewer who said the waiters needed to smile at least once, but the rib-eye and filet were delicious.

We love this neighborhood gem! The service and food are always top-notch. My favorite is the Poblano Lime Chicken - although the Chicken Enchiladas are great, too. My husband usually gets a seafood dish. There's something to please everyone - including my vegetarian daughter!

I've only been one time. Nice decor, food was decent. Would like to try dinner.

great pork chop

Menu and reviews were good so we decided to give it a try. Wife's and my food was very good. Peacan crushed chicken with grilled sweet potato wedges and green beans was very good. I had Cedar plank grilled Salmon with mashed potatoes and greens. Salmon was excellent and mash potatoes were also good. Brought out 2 types of sliced breads and butter while we waited for our meals. Both breads were tasty. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the waitress didn't return for quite a while after bring our meals.

Raven grill provides a good casual dining experience with a strong focus on seafood. Reservations are usually required for groups of 5 or more, but 2-4 people can usually be seated after a very short wait. The food is excellent. my last visit was the tenderloin which was cooked to perfection. The drink menu is very good and their spicy margarita is definitely both unique and tasty! A must have item is the onion ring tower, which is large rings in a stack and some poblano peppers. Service was not ideal this visit, but the food did make up for it.

I first went to this restaurant ONLY because it was 1/2 mile from where I was staying - I ordered the cucumber jalapeno margarita and the Thursday night seafood enchilada special - the first was unusual and amazing, and the 2nd was remarkable. It was a little Tex Mex but the freshness of the ingredients is what made it stand out. I currently live in a tiny town with five restaurants and wasn't sure if I was overcome because I haven't had good food in so long. So the 2nd time I went to this restaurant (two days later), it was to seek additional confirmation. This time I got the southwest enchiladas - a lot more rich but deelicious. It turns out this restaurant is a Houston favorite - a sleeper - more well known to neighborhood locals. So I was lucky. Even better, on my second trip I had forgot my wallet. I offered to leave my phone as collateral - luckily they trusted me to take my phone which saved me, because when it turned out I had lost my wallet, I needed my phone to call around - plus I was dealing with all this without a car. Good people.

Shrimp salad is awesome! Affordable wine list.

Stopped in while visiting Rice U. Sat out on covered patio--great atmosphere. Service was very friendly. Food was delivered quickly and was all pretty good. Just a nice quiet place to relax in a beautiful neighborhood. Would definitely go back.

My wife and I make a special attempt to eat here when visiting Houston. It is located at 1916 Bissonnet which is near Rice University, the Museum district and a great mystery book store (Murder by the Book) that we also visit. We had lunch and dinner here with great service and excellent food. For dinner we had two different types of Salmon and our grandson and a great steak.

The place is nice and has a cool patio on the side. This is the reason we went to try this place. The service was really good. The waitress was really nice and quick, but the food was so bad that I couldn't even eat it (and I'm not picky by the way). I ordered a plate of fish tacos that was literally unedible, but the waitress had been so nice that I didn't want to say anything- so I just told her to put the food to go (when in reality it was going straight for the trash). My husband and I never went again.

Reasonably priced and fun tasty food. Waiters good. Will go again. We sat near the kitchen so we were able to see the food going out to the tables. YUM. It all looked good.

We stopped here for lunch recently. My impression was it was nothing special, food was average and restrooms were dirty. The location is the only thing that makes this restaurant special. It had the pot roast in a large bowl. However, the chunks of meat were too large so I had to somehow cut them in a soup bowl. They should have been smaller pieces to start with.

Have eaten here several times and the food is always good. Good menu selections with chicken, pasta, seafood, salads, steaks. Have been with several different people and no complaints. Only negative is the parking lot is small.

My husband, son, a friend and I dined here last night. We chose it due to its proximity to the Miller Outdoor Theater. On the plus side, the food was good. I had a salmon salad and my husband the shrimp salad. Prices are modest and the food came out promptly. On the negative side, my wine order was forgotten, we had to ask each time we needed water glasses refilled, my son's catsup was forgotten, and a huge cockroach passed by our table on the floor several times.

Raven Grill is a lovely neighborhood hangout: good location, attractive, and attentive staff. The food is good quality and consistent. Then why only three stars? Over the years the food is less and less adventurous. Maybe people come for high quality comfort food with no surprises. That's fine, if it's what you want. But with all the restaurants in Houston, I see no reason to make a point of going to Raven Grill. I had very forgettable seafood enchiladas; my friend's shrimp caesar salad was a huge disappointment. I hate to give it only three stars, but it's not a four. Maybe three and a half.

Very nice place. Quiet enough to enjoy the company. Attentive service. Very good food, I had the sweet potato and spinach enchiladas, which were excellent. I recommend the place and will go back.

I haven't been here in a while, but remember it being tasty. It's also in the trendy line.

My wife enjoyed a salad and my friends tried the shrimp etouffee. In the past I have had the fried oysters which were wonderful and tempted me this time, but I'm working to knock off a few holiday pounds so I had the turkey burger. I love turkey burgers and The Raven Grill served me one of the best I have ever had! All of our meals were expertly prepared and delicious!

The Raven is just a perfect little local. Very low key, very good food, attentive service, reasonable prices, indoor or outdoor dining. It's hard to pin down why it's so likable - it just is. A regular stop for us going to and from the Med Center and the Museum District. Limited parking - go early or late.

I have eaten at the Raven several times when in Houston on business and always have had a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere. I would return there again without hesitation. The food is often seasonal which I like and the bar is good.

Ate lunch on a Wednesday around 1:30 and place was about 1/3 full. We ordered two entrees - salad with grilled salmon and grilled chicken sandwich. The portion of both meals was substantial and my friend enjoyed the salmon a lot but I felt that the chicken was over cooked and was very dry. Definitely disappointing. Our waitress was friendly though. I'm not sure we would come again considering one meal was a total miss.

Folks around us who appeared to be regulars seemed to come back for the salmon salad. I had the blacken tuna sandwich which was over done and quite dry, Nice topping of mango salsa and avocado, but could have used more of it along with some sort of chipotle mayonnaise or sauce on the toasted bun. Would not order again, and came as a recommendation from waitstaff. Companion had the pot roast which was more like a stew and smelled wonderful. Lots of meat and veggies in a thick sauce. Cute place and think the food has good reputation, but my meal wasn't quite what I had hoped. Nice variety on the menu.

he group consensus was that the food was very good, the service was also very good, not spectacular, but solid enough to come back that's for sure. We really liked the atmosphere and it was quiet, so a real conversation could be held. The waitress picked up my drink before I was done and the bar sent my friend the wrong drink Both of my cocktails were weak. The wine selection was very, very good and the prices were reasonable, for a restaurant. Lots of wines by the glass. So, when the hammer fell, I would say a “4/5”.

This place has a good variety of quality dishes. Fried oysters appetizer for $10 was very good. My wife had an 8 oz. tenderloin with sides, also very good. Quiet location with good service. Also, tea is tasty, with lemon slices. Sedate crowd makes for a pleasant location for nice dinner at reasonable prices. Oh, huge onion rings and fried bell pepper appetizer is interesting.

On Saturday night, we went to Raven Grill with two other couples. The waiter was friendly and we had a round of drinks and ordered dinner. The food part is where the restaurant and the manger fell flat. We ordered Salmon on a Plank, Pork Ribs, Beef Tenderloin, and Pot Roast. The only thing that came out right was the Pot Roast. The thing wrong with each plate were: 1) Salmon dishes- the outside was cooked and the inside was cold. Not cold not cooked, but cold. 2) Pork Chop – mine was so overcooked it was not edible – boot sole was a better use. 3) Beef Tenderloin – all items other than the Steak were cold so it was sent back and seemed they microwaved the entire plate. 4) The sweet potatoes on all the plates were cold. For the bad pork chops, the manager said he would not charge us. That is great, other than the fact I was hungry after having no dinner. In further talking to the manager, I stated that if I were to review this restaurant, I would give it a terrible review as five out of six dishes had problems. The interesting part was his response that he doesn’t care what the sites say. I said the sites are reviews from your customers, but that did not get a reply. This is a little neighborhood place and I would not suggest trying to seek it out. There are much better restaurants in Houston than to get poor food at this one. Adding the manager to the mix, I would avoid it totally.

This restaurant is a neighborhood find! They do mesquite grilled proteins and nothing breaks the bank. I had the grilled trout which was HUGE-enough to share with another. The chicken was delicious too!

I've eaten in a lot of places in Houston, and I've heard of plenty more I have yet to try. I never heard of this place, but a friend suggested our large group (8 or 10) go to Raven Grill after an event we attended, so we did. I had Pecan Crusted Chicken just because I never had that combo before. Delicious! And my partner claimed her Cedar Plank Salmon was the best she ever had!! Really! And they have eaten salmon at dozens of places all over the country! I was shocked! Another friend said his crab cakes were divine. So...wow...what a surprise! I sincerely think this is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in Houston in this price range. Would definitely go back! Great service, and at the time we went, still cool enough to enjoy their patio. Highly recommended!

My husband loved his steak salad, and my salmon and mashed potatoes was great comfort food after a medical center visit.

Have a late business lunch mid November, no crowd, great service, large servings, $49 all in for 3 with no drinks, can't go wrong here.

just okay comfort food...reminds me of Paulines...which is just okay, too

One of the best steaks in a long time, finally not cooked on gas. Finally something thats also not smoked. Creme Brulee also impressive. Ashli was really attentive and gave me exactly what I asked for - perfect. Also cannot fault the wine suggestion at a fair price. Did I mention the bread - Yum. The only restaurant in Texas where you can find white pepper. I loved Raven Grill. Great service and great food. Will be back

We were at the Texas Medical Center and looked around online for a non-chain restaurant nearby. This one sounded interesting and not over the top expensive. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated in a lovely outdoor covered patio with wonderful ambiance. The menu was diverse but after enjoying the fantastic tower of rings I just had a strawberry spinach salad. My husband had fish tacos and we finished off with a giant piece of carrot cake, half of which we took home. The food was all great, the service was pleasant and perfectly attentive and the whole experience couldn't have been better.

First time to have dinner at this well kept secret. Will be back to sample other offerings on the menu. Went for an early dinner on a Sunday night, was seated quickly and enjoyed attentive service. This is quite a popular local spot, and understand why. Warm feel to the restaurant, quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Food was good and portions were perfect. Wonderful service and manager checked with us a couple of times. Daily specials all looked good. Looking forward to next visit!

Small venue. Good food. Fresh bread. Dependable menu that has not changed much over past 17 years we have been coming. Not a very noisy restaurant but always full because of the vibe and food. A neighborhood relatively small but not tiny restaurant.

The Raven is located in a residential neighborhood but on a major street not far from the Texas Medical Center. The menu offers many choices, but today I selected the balsamic vinaigrette strawberry spinich salad with spiced pecans and feta cheese. Several toppings were offered and I selected the grilled salmon. The combination proved to be excellent and the meal was completed with a generous slice of moist carrot cake. Hughly recommended.

A little bit too small...but food is good

All the food is very carefully and thoughtfully selected and prepared. A wonderful lunch or dinner experience in a sleekly modern setting. Josephine

I’m from out of town & wanted to have dinner at a local restaurant, family took us here. Nice neighborhood place, food was good, had blackened chicken pasta, rainbow trout & enchiladas, all good.

I've been here for lunch meetings and lunch with my in-laws and it's just an all-around good place. There is something for everyone on the menu and the weekend brunch is good too! My favorite thing to order is the spicy shrimp Caesar salad and the French toast is delicious too.

We have eaten at The Raven Grill many times. It never disappoints. We brought a family member here for a nice lunch. The noise level is low and we were able to have a conversation, which is always nice. The service is great without being over done. The food as always was very good. I had broiled trout served over a warm spinach salad. It was cooked to perfection. My dessert was amazing. It was a fruit tart (black berry), which reminded me of something that I had had visiting in England. It was a wonderful experience and we all promised each other we would be back soon.

New Year's Eve 2016 while at MDAnderson for treatment we were looking for a close By dining experience. We picked the perfect spot. Four people dined and each meal was close to a 10 on the rating scale. Trout was chosen this was wonderful..Scallops the second choice the only issue here was that the mushroom rosutto was sticky and mushy. I had yellow fin tuna sandwich ..so yummy. Our wine was wonderful..a house red. I liked the atmosphere and the open kitchen concept. Oh..I should mention the chocolate bomb dessert ..great finishing touch!

....so I hate to rate them just average. Maybe it was what we ordered - I had a hamburger and fries and my husband had the shrimp etouffee . The dishes were good, but nothing fabulous. My fries were limp, the burger tasty. The others in our party seemed to enjoy the evening's special - chicken fried steak; one person ordered the appetizer sampler and had enough food to take home. The atmosphere was nice, the service good and the prices were reasonable for the location. Won't go out of my way to visit again, but would give it another try if the opportunity arose.

We have Sunday brunch at Raven about twice a month, and sometimes, like today, I'll meet a friend for a leisurely catch-up lunch. This is consistently one of the best restaurants that we visit in Houston, with warm service and food lovingly prepared with fresh ingredients and a skillful understanding of what makes dishes memorable. You can never go wrong with any of the enchiladas, from chicken to sweet potato, and the fresh catch of the day selections are a perennial favorite. Dessert, you say? Raven has an incredible selection, and you will love the featured fruit tarts, wrapped in flaky pastry that melts in your mouth. Great wines and cocktails, excellent specialty coffees, and plenty of easy parking -- a miracle in Houston. Highly recommend!

This wonderful neighborhood restaurant tucked away in the Rice University area offers a great variety of dishes ranging from steak to seafood..and also includes great salads and sandwiches...all expertly prepared and beautifully presented! A must try!

We brought friends for a special dinner and the pecan crusted chicken was recommended. It was like something you would get at a fast food restaurant and sauce had no flavor. This restaurant is too good to serve this entree.

Not my favorite but is not bad

Locals like this resturant as in walkable neighborhood As far as travelers go there are many more restaurants available to try The menu is varied and food is good especially the pasta The fried oysters are way over battered and you loose the full effect of fried oysters The plank salmon is outstanding The Raven platter is not a favorite

We ate an early dinner at the bar after running errands all day. Our bartender/server was Francois and he was a lot of fun. Great stories to share. It was like having dinner AND entertainment, too. He made an excellent Lemon Drop Martini. I had not had one of these in about 15 years, but he hit a home run with it. We split a small Caesar salad to start. I had the Cedar Plank Salmon, my favorite dish here, and the husband had the New York Strip. A great restaurant in a great part of town (where there are no other restaurants around) with lots of free surface parking.

Don't miss Julia, the resident hen.

I was taken here for a business dinner. The acoustics are good, so you can hear people speak. The wines offered are excellent. We share a couple of bottles of the Zinfandel - The Prisoner. They have many very good fish selections and some nice light desserts. I had the catfish and was very happy with my dinner. For dessert, I had the angel food cake and some of the others had the sorbet with no added sugar. Both were nice, lighter ways to finish off the meal.

the setting is quiet and relaxed and the food is quite good. the prices are reasonable and the daily specials are also usually pretty good. the parking is also adequate; in and out is usually pretty easy

This is a good neighborhood restaurant. Close to museums, medical center and Herman Park. The menu has a wide selection for everyone. We have eaten here several times and have never had a bad meal.

Although we were stuck at the Raven for dinner unexpectedly during one of Houston's sudden torrential rain showers recently, this establishment produced a great meal, with very attentive service (despite being understaffed due to the flood conditions), seamlessly. We were very grateful for the fine food as we watched out the window the occasional car/truck plow through the flooded street with water halfway up their door sides. We will definitely return to the Raven Grill hopefully under drier circumstances.

Fresh vegetables perfectly cooked (grilled sweet potato) with fish and chicken; fresh southwestern salad. The tacos should come with avocado and more limes but otherwise a very delicious meal - one of the best in Houston!

The Raven Grill is a nice neighborhood spot. I enjoy coming in with friends and family for dinner and drinks frequently. The cedar plank salmon is one of my favorites! It is a must have if you like salmon. And the wine selection offered only seems to get more interesting and varied each time I visit. The only thing lacking was our waitress (M) who seemed like she was miserable as she hardly smiled. I would definitely return to the Raven Grill for the atmosphere, great food, and good wine!

This was my first time to visit the Raven Grill and I will definitely return! My husband and I took a friend to lunch recently and we all had different dishes. I had the Blackened Chicken Pasta which was fabulous...a large serving and I devoured it! My husband had the Raven Dinner and said it was excellent and our friend had the Salmon Steak. She normally doesn't clean her plate...but this time she did! We will definitely return...not only due to the great food, but for the excellent service.

Having been in Houston visiting for about an hour, my fiancee who had spent the week here found this place driving by and decided we should go there for dinner. I'm glad he did because when I flew in I was hungry. They had call ahead seating so we made sure to take advantage of that as he picked me up from the airport 45 minutes before we arrived. The service was great, our waitress had a cute accent, checked on us accordingly. The food was very good and for a very reasonable price. No meal was more than $23 and they were all good portions. I am very pleased with this find as we were not from the area and I wanted something light, healthy and filling for dinner. Would go here again!

Have only been here once. I had the sweet potatoes and spinach enchiladas, which I enjoyed. The person w/ me (who may or may not have been my date) did not eat most of his meal, nor did he want to take home leftovers. I don't know what that says about the food. It is a little more expensive than I am accustomed to.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch today with my family and the food quality and service was very disappointing. We were seated immediately and our server touched base for drinks then disappeared for quite some time despite a fairly empty restaurant. My daughters order was wrong and the servers response was that’s not what I wrote down??? Our tea glasses were left empty until right as we requested the bill. The food quality was cafeteriaish. I will not be returning and recommend you move along as well. There are plenty of tastier places to eat in Houston.

I still cannot understand why this place was so busy on a weekday evening. When I try a new place, I make it a habit to ask the waiter's recommendation, and when in doubt I go with the menu "favorites." Unfortunately, this did not make a difference as the food was so bland that we could not even finish the meal. At this price point, there are far better alternatives in the area.

Babbby! Loved the atmosphere, playlist "background" music, server, GM- Mel, the most tasteful entree, dessert and drinks and service was exceptional. I am the new regular. I plan to frequent this establishment several times weekly. As the servers were walking by with other people's food, I was in awe of the smell, presentation and satisfaction that each customer appeared to showcase. I live nearby and its like a hidden GEM to fast moving people like myself. Trust and believe, I have slowed down to observe the service, smell the mesquite flavors, listen to the "Benny and the Jets." Fun time today! I will be back tomorrow for the Turkey Burger and on Father's Day! I truly enjoyed my grilled Catfish, garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach! The GM Mel was so personable and friendly. Had to write this review. I do hope that you frequent this restaurant and see what I experience. Stop, look, listen, smell, taste and smile!

Delicious food at a reasonable price.

Ooohh... my home away from home. Definitely a meat-eaters restaurant, the chef knows how to cook meat. Diverse menu includes everything from healthy salads to decadent American classics. They serve probably the best ceviche this side of the border. The Tower or Rings is deep fryer excellence. And the New York Strip reminds me of the quote from Brokeback Mountain, "I wish I could quit you!"... HOW I love that steak. Excellent and affordable wine list. I love Raven. It's the definition of the friendly neighborhood restaurant.

Dinner here is consistently delicious. The service is great and there is a nice wine list. We had both the fried oysters and the jalapeño shrimp for appetizers. The jalapeño shrimp were outstanding. In contrast the oysters paled and were just ok. The better entree was the cedar plank salmon which my husband ordered. The other couple and I had the grilled catfish. The catfish was very good, but the accompanying grilled squash and zucchini were tough and flavorless. The creme brûlée was delicious, but I have had better. We have dined here many times and will return when in Houston.

The Raven Grill is definitely one of those local places where friends gather for a good meal and conversation. My only experience there is at the bar, which offers plenty of space for seating and they provide excellent service there. I had the cedar plank salmon, which was delicious and cooked perfectly. I could see parking being somewhat of a challenge, but luckily I took Lyft in each time and didn't have to worry about it. There are plenty of other places I would go over the Raven Grill, but if you're in the area, it's not a bad place to go.

We have eaten at the Raven since it opened, as a couple and w friends. The tasty food, courteous service and relaxed ambience always brings us back. We appreciate too the good quality for a reasonable price. How fortunate to have a local Raven Grill.

The Raven Grill is a reliable, dependable 'neighborhood' café that never fails to please. Neither the atmosphere nor food is 'cutting edge' but who cares when you get smart, friendly servers, a wide menu catering to all one's possible interests (sandwiches, pastas, meat entrees, etc.), delicious food and nice wine choices. White tablecloth without being stuffy. Generally a smart and sophisticated (meaning, no children running around the table or drunk girls yelling at each other across the table). crowd. Full satisfying dinner for two was $70 including tip. THAT is the definition of a good restaurant.

I found a hair in my food. I ordered the samon with steemed spinach. No hygiene. When I complained about it, the waitress just said “sorry about that” and left. I would have inmagined that a manager would approach us to apologize, but apparently they didn’t care. The kids pasta was terrible (no flavour) and the chicken sandwich over cooked. It is not worth the price at all!

The food was really very good and the service was great, our server could not have been better, also had a couple of nice beers available.

This long time neighborhood restaurant has always had good food and service. It can be hard to get a table at peak times- but if you call about 10 minutes before you get there- it help.

Raven Grill is one of my favorite casual dining locations in Houston. The food is always fresh & well prepared. One of my “go to dishes” here is the cedar plank salmon served with delicious skin on mashed potatoes and fresh made salsa. Last night was no exception to my prior experiences at the Raven Grill—the cedar plank salmon was outstanding, as were all of the other dishes our table ordered, including the fried oysters, grilled catfish, Ceaser salad and last, but certainly not least, the amazing angel food cake with raspberry sauce. At times, the service can be a little slow, but overall, Raven Grill is consistently an outstanding choice for a quiet, low key casual dinner with friends, family or business guests.

I joined six friends for dinner after the Texans defeat of the Raiders for a most enjoyable meal and hospitality. The table for seven was ready upon our arrival. The service was fast and the group lingered after finishing our meals for further conversation. There was absolutely no attempt to move us along in order to "flip" the table. The blue corn meal fried oysters were great and the French fries fresh and hot. The others raved about the sweet potato enchiladas. The peanut butter pie was great and not a big help to removing those nagging post Christmas extra pounds! Our waitstaff was both pleasant and efficient. The value was great as I paid for 3/7 of the group and it was ~$100 including a 20% tip and several glasses of wine. This was a refreshing change from my previous evening's experience at Tiny's No. 5 in West University Place where my tab was similar but for two pax (not three) and no alcohol! Please see my review of Tiny's No. 5. The Raven manager stopped by the table on several occasions to ensure that everyone's food was to their liking and that all was well. I look forward to my return as this is a most enjoyable environment with great food and service.

This is one of our default restaurants for a consistently delicious meals, great service, reasonable prices (for outstanding quality), and cozy ambiance. There's a wide selection of Houston staples ranging from Tex-Mex to Gulf seafood and American classics. There's something for everyone, even for our very finicky 4-year-old.

When visiting the Museum District in Houston my “go-to” restaurant up until now has been The Raven Grill. Why? It represented good quality, fair price, reasonable quantity and a lovely atmosphere. Sorry to report that this weekend changed my perception. A friend and I arrived about 7 PM without a reservation and were immediately seated at a lovely table. I was surprised that the place was not overflowing. I decided to try the veggie plate, while my friend ordered the rainbow trout (usually another good choice). I was told that my request for asparagus rather than green beans would require an upcharge and I decided to accept. After an appreciable wait (surprising, since the restaurant was not busy), the plates arrived. I could see the steam rising from the fish. I dug into the freshly grilled portobello mushroom, only to find it drowned in salty spices. Next I tried the sweet potato—barely warm. I dug into the squash casserole—barely warm. My friend’s green lentils accompanying the fish were also barely warm but she did not return them. Aside from the newly grilled portobello and the asparagus, the other choices appeared as if they had been sitting out for a while. The waiter responded to my request for service and asked if I would like a new plate or to have this warmed. I suggested that the kitchen make that call. A bit later, the plate arrived with a new portobello mushroom, which I did not try, but I noticed that the veggies on my returned plate appeared as before. The plate itself was at room temp and I again tried the selections—no change. The waiter once more took the plate back and I asked him to cancel the order since my friend was almost finished with her dinner. I ordered a coffee and requested that it be served hot. It was. I was not charged for the dinner or coffee, but more importantly no Manager appeared at any time to to discuss the problems. I will not be returning.

We enjoyed lunch here. Unfussy, friendly service; freshly prepared fish was not of ultimate quality, but good nonetheless; the best espresso I have been served in several days of mediocre coffee in Houston (thick, rich, perfect crema: i.e. just right). Evidently run like clockwork, this is a thoroughly professional restaurant offering a fine product at an appropriate price.

chicken fried steak only on sunday night . good. small place

My family absolutely love this place. They start you off with homemade bread from Picnic, the bakery at the end of the strip center. Fresh berries, nuts, jalapeno, cheese...two different types of bread. We visited for lunch and this time we had the chicken and portobello mushrooms quesadilla, spicy chicken pasta, and the chicken tacos. The pico de gallo was fresh and the green sauce, mouth watering. The pasta was flavorful, not overpowering spicy. The tacos were crunchy and the chicken inside was very tender. We finished the meal with their wonderfully creamy creme brulee. It had the hard carmelized sugar shell on top that makes it so yummy. Visit this place for lunch or dinner. We have in the past had the fish on the cedar plank, the pork chops, and almost every chicken dish. Never had a bad meal here!! It is all delicious!

On a recent trip to Houston we were looking for a restaurant for a nice lunch offering and were very pleased with what Raven had to offer. Our waitress ,Marissa, made some great recommendations and we totally enjoyed all of our food. I had the pecan encrusted chicken served with notably the best and freshest green beans and grilled sweet potatoes. Serving size was huge and I had to get a doggie bag for the delightful leftovers. The hubby had the seafood enchilada and thoroughly enjoyed them ---the plate was filled with rice and black beans as well. Ww got a piece of peanut butter pie to take home and share and that, too, was delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant and it was not crowded when we were there so it was quiet and just a nice place to have a quiet lunch. I would totally recommend this place to anyone who wanted a nice place to kick back and have a great meal.

I come to the medical center regularly from SC for health reasons and this is part of the trifecta of restaurants that I always get a meal. I'm pretty much addicted to their spicy grilled chicken and pasta dish I tried one of the enchilada dishes this past time, but the pasta dish still wins! There are so many choices. The restaurant is tucked away. The service and staff are excellent

Great food, attentive service, nice wine list. We enjoyed the pecan encrusted chicken and cedar plank salmon. Both cooked to perfection. Sweet potatoes and beans on the side. Yummy again and will return!

Came here for lunch for the third time. Had the sweet potato and spinach enchiladas. Lunch partner had the shrimp etouffee. We shared the appetizer of jalapeno shrimp. We liked everything and look forward to going back to try other items. Our service was good too.

This is a popular local restaurant, at least with people my age, and would be with us as well if only the food was better. The service is good as is the setting and you can generally find parking in the area in front of the restaurant or the adjoining stores. We had the oysters and the shrimp enchiladas, the former had little taste while I assume the latter were simply put on a plate with beans, rice and cheese ad microwaved.

Been here 3 times, most recently yesterday. I find it an outstanding place. Nice wine list and great food. I have always stuck with their grilled offerings, which are many. They have a nice wood grill. They take reservations, which I recommend as it's a small dining room and quite crowded. Nice bar.

I've been going to The Raven Grill for several years and the two most important consistencies are the quality/taste of the food, the excellent service and the polite and effective handling of small mistakes. Dining here is a no-brainer.

Raven Grill has been a consistent pleasure for years. We are always surprised when we go, which sadly has not been that often. Our recent visit reminded us of the freshness of the food (and generous portions!) and pleasant service. We will be back soon.

I love to eat at Raven Grill and would eat there every week if it were closer. Everything is fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. I especially like the vegetable plate, but have tried fish, chicken, salads and Mexican entrees and enjoyed everything.

Though the fare has a Texas influence it is NOT a Tex-Mex restaurant. First impression was the ambience. It really did have a good vibe. They had a bar you could sit at or if you prefer tables for more formal dining you have that option. In addition to a decent wine list they also serve a nice variety of Texan craft beers. I had a nice blonde ale while my girl friend enjoyed a sparkling rose. We opted to order the variety sampler platter to experience their different takes on local foods. Normally I am not partial to crab cakes, but the southwest inspired one they had was very tasty. The tower of onions were good as was the quesadilla with veggies. It also contained flautas and fried oysters. The tomatillo sauce was awesome. For dinner we had the trout and the filet. I thought the trout was just right. We had ordered the steak medium rare but had to send it back. It was more rare than not. Otherwise the steak was delicious too. I would definitely go back and try their pork chops. It was my preferred choice but I wanted something light. Definitely a good place to visit. PS the pico de gallo was very good too.

My husband and I stopped at the Raven Grill for an early lunch before visiting the Museum of Fine Arts. I found the atmosphere to be nice and there is also a patio for outdoor dining. Our waitress was very friendly. I ordered the spicy southwestern shrimp Caesar ($13) and my husband ordered the Raven dinner, three chicken flautas topped with tomatillo sauce with herb rice and beans ($14). The food arrived quickly however, I must admit to being a bit disappointed with my salad - at first glance it was a huge salad but upon closer inspection it was really about 98% romaine lettuce; the menu showed a black bean/corn salsa, mesquite grilled shrimp, and a spicy Caesar dressing). Four shrimp, perhaps a tablespoon of the bean/corn salsa, and a slew of tortilla slivers...I just didn't see the value behind this dish. Also my spicy Caesar dressing was not spicy at all, and I'm not usually one who loves really hot dishes. On the other hand, my husbands flautas were delicious and not greasy at all, his herb rice was bland and the beans were nothing special though. I think I would give the Raven Grill a second chance but would order something different.

We went there based on a friend’s recommendation. Noisy and small but I loved the “local”vibe. Good wine list, some unusual dishes—two of us tried the sweet potato and spinach enchiladas based on waiter suggestions. It was a good vegetarian dish but I would try something different next visit. My adult daughter got the cheese burger and thought it was great. Creme brûlée was yummy but super small. Carrot cake was just so so. The desserts come from the bakery next door. Super nice wait staff.

Good, very good restaurant., Went here after a book reading, then did the same again after another reading a couple of weeks later. Food very good, well prepared, well designed menu and available options. Wine list good, not overly expensive. Not sure why we stopped going here, but certainly a mistake not to be repeated.

This is a great "neighborhood" restaurant. It has nice indoor decor, and covered outdoor seating as well. The menu has a good deal to choose from. The Cedar Plank Salmon was fabulous and very tender, not at all overcooked. I don't recall what flavor of margarita I had, but it was fabulous and definitely not watered down. Service was very good.

We had 11 people celebrating a 50th birthday ages 70 to 12. Everyone loved their meals without one complaint. Great appetizers: Tower of Onions. Ceviche, and assorted salads. Many cuts of steak prepared many ways, delicious hamburgers, and salmon on a plank that was scrumptious for the main course selections. The birthday boy had a decadent chocolate cake to share for desert and we splurged on carrot cake and creme brûlée that everyone enjoyed. Cocktails before dinner were enjoyed with many selections chosen, a good wine selection for the main course, and a final toast of cognac. My husband wants to go there again for his 70th birthday. The waitress was excellent and attentive. I can't wait to go back when we visit Houston again!

Stopped here to meet friends for brunch while we were visiting Houston as a recommendation from our hotel concierge. We had the jalapeno shrimp, sweet potato enchiladas and the burger. All delicious. Great & attentive service (thanks, Josh!), decent beer list and reasonably priced. Great section of town. Will definitely come back next time we visit.

As the title states, the Raven Grill is the hidden treasure of Houston. It has an eclectic but not huge menu which will satisfy all members of your party. Brunch and the wine list are amazing as well!

I had the crab cakes and cedar plank salmon with a cocktail while sitting solo on the patio. The food was SO delicious! The patio was tranquil and the service perfect! Highly recommend this little gem!

I like the location of this spot, it's close to home, but the restaurant is a bit dirty. They sat us at a table that the paper was dirty, So we moved on our own to the next one. My husband had to sweep off his booth seat, that was also stained and tired. The service was super fast, nice waiter, food good. I would rate this an average spot. Might go back for drinks and happy hour, but might pass on dinner.

Sunday's from 11am to 3pm, the Raven Grill offers a dleightful and delicious brunch menu! Indoor and outdoor socially distanced seating is available and offers a cozy and intimate 'feel' where the staff greet you as if you were their favorite customer they've not seen in a while which by the way makes you feel like you're part of 'their' family. And in today's current environment, we ALL need that type of welcoming. The restaurant owners have been providing wood fire grilled menu items for over 22 years at the same location which is between Hazard and Woodhead off of Bissonet not far from Rice University, the Medical Center and Downtown Houston. So, this morinng I was greeted by Nevil, the manager and my server, Naoual where I ordered a cup of vegetable chicken soup which was perfect for this cool Houston morning, chicken tacos (flautas) on a bed of romaine, drizzed with a tangy tomatillo sauce and fresh pico de gallo. Flavorful, light, combinations that were simply a perfect start to my day. With coffee this was so REASONABLY Priced under USD 18. My complements to the chef, entire staff and management to making my 'solo' experience comfortable and welcoming. And to the owners, for assembling such a competent, professional and personable staff who are appropriately attentive. Thank you and Happy Holidays! I know I'll be back with friends! My first experience with the Raven Grill after many false starts. Have you ever had a place on your list for years and somehow you just never made it there to eat. For whatever reason, I have wanted to eat here for a few years now and it never happened for one reason or another. Anyway, I FINALLY made it yesterday when I took my small team from work to lunch at this West U/Museum District/Montrose area restaurant. We went for lunch at about 11:30, we were seated promptly and were greeted with enthusiastic service right away. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual. The dining room is elegant, homey, not stuffy, not pretentious, not garish as many new reaturants can be here in this town. The crowd at lunch is varied with lunching local ladies and casual business lunchers that aren't wathing the 60 minute clock. The food...The bread before the meal is always welcome and the quality was good. I had the blue corn meal crusted oysters for lunch and they were great. They were tender and crunchy and the fries were fantastic. The remoulade sauce was too cutesy in it's consistency. A fresh, traditional remoulade would have been welcome here. It was ok, just not exceptional. I find that restaurants that offer remoulade rarely get it right. Brennan's and Brenner's and the former Maxim's and Confederate House got the sauce exactly right. My coworkers absolutely enjoyed their pasta dishes as well and agreed that the lunch was, for the most part, exceptional. The ladies shared the molten chocolate cake for dessert and I had the cold panut butter pie. They ate theirs and I ate mine. I did not share. Mine was damn good and theirs looked good, too. Overall a neat place with a very attractive dining room, great food and attentive, gracious service. I should not have waited so long. Now that I can recommend it, I'll be back for sure.

I got the pecan crusted chicken with green beans and grilled sweet potato--amazing! Great atmosphere. The bar is sort of secluded from the rest of the restaurant area just enough to not make either seating sections awkward. Great lighting, decor, and service. Quaint little fancy place!

Friends who live near this restaurant brought us here for dinner - their favorite local they said. Two of us split the Raven dinner for nice sized supper portions. The flautas were excellent. Nice casual atmosphere with friends at different tables briefly chatting as they came and went.

The food was good. The service was excellent. Liked that you could taste the wine before you ordered a bottle of wine if they had a bottle open. Went on a Friday around 6:30 and didn’t need a reservation.

The Raven Grill is a "one of a kind" neighborhood restaurant. The staff is consistently attentive and open to the flexible requests of their customers. The menu has a variety of offerings that can satisfy almost anyone's tastes.

If you live, work, visiting a museum or attend church in the area, its convenient and has tasty food. The service is not consistent. And depending on the chef can be an interesting adventure.

Very fresh food, great wine, great atmosphere, great patio. Try the sweet potatoe and spinach enchiladas, they're very yummy. Owners and staff are amazing! if you're in the area for lunch they have a deli next door "Picnic"

First, the finale - cheesecake that was like velvet. Really; I am a lover of the dish and these folks do it right. I had ordered a few slices of strawberries on top, in case it was dry, but it was moist and smooth on its own. The burger and fries were good, too, despite the fries being overcooked. The tomato and lettuce were bright and fresh, but even my grandson’s chicken strips were overdone. The cheesecake is five-star fare, but the overcooking on the entrees yanked a star away. Service was fine, but we were the only mid-afternoon diners seated inside.

Excellent seafood enchiladas. Lovely restaurant, excellent service. Very good food. Bread with raisin and rye in bread basket very good. Enjoyed seeing homes in area.

Great establishment with soothing ambiance and a comfortable vibe. The emphasis is on a small but broad-range menu. Nice wine list, too. A reservation is recommended. We went on the recommendation of a relative of the chef.

The Raven Grill is one of our favorite dining spots. It's located inside the loop near Rice Village, Rice University, The Medical Center, and the Museum District. We always have a superb meal here. My favorite is Cedar Plank Salmon. It's outstanding. My only complaint about the Raven is that they still permit smoking on their outdoor patio. We love to dine outside but will never do so again at the Raven unless they change this policy. There's nothing like someone lighting up a cigarette to spoil your meal. Nasty and awful.

Wonderful!

The Raven Grill has delicious food and drinks. The service is always seamless and friendly. The tower of rings, salmon, trout, hamburgers and salads are always fresh and tasty. There is also parking in front of the restaurant.

The Raven Grill offers fresh local ingredients and produces delicious dishes the next time you visit the Museum District and Herman Park area. This is a great weekday lunch spot or a weekend dinner choice. Clean, crisp, warm atmosphere with incredible foodie options.

This restaurant has a devout neighborhood following that keeps them in business. The diverse menu offered a lot of choices, but each item's description was better than the dish looked or tasted. Let's start from the top. We picked this restaurant because it was near the Museum and open for an early Sunday dinner. The restaurant itself had a warm, dressy casual atmosphere, but I hated the butcher paper covering the table cloths. We had dirty sliverware which was replaced with no comment. Service overall was ok, but no one was breaking a sweat. The dinner special of the day was Chicken Fried steak--yuck. The waitstaff tries to upsale you on the wines, but the lower priced wine by the glass selections are very good. The bread would have been tasty had it not been stone cold. The Tower O' Rings was delicious, but the spicy sauce was bland with an unpleasant aftertaste. I sampled the Fish Tacos and agreed with my guest that they were horrible. My Sweet Potato and Spinach enchaladas were literally a hot mess--tasted like cheesy baby food. My husband's Raven Dinner looked just like my entree; a cheese covered gloppy mess of something with a blob of tastless beans and weakly flavored rice. The Pecan Crusted chicken was deemed 'ok' by our second guest, who eats just about anything with relish. His entree also suffered from a lack of presentation; it looked like a plate of cafeteria food. The high point of the meal was the Fudge Brownie Melt cake and the Raven coffee. These got 5 stars from everybody. The restaurant itself was clean, the bathrooms tidy, and the bar area looked like an inviting place to meet before dinner with the most friendly bartender I've met in a long time. If you have mobility issues, you should have no problems negotiating the environment. The patio looked cute and inviting until we saw the pet chicken scratching in the planter boxes that are on level with the table tops. I don't care if the hen has a name--chickens are nasty and do not belong in an eating establishment. Everyone in our party left generally disappointed and would not return to give this place a second chance.
Expected More Than I Got
Raven is a good looking restaurant in a great location and obviously its long success shows a faithful local following. Shrimp appetizer was scorched on the grill with too much black carbon that affected the taste and left the white napkin grey. Two entrees boring and without exciting flavor. In spite of these disappointments I ordered a dessert and coffee. Coffee was scorched and tasted burned. The pot had been on a long time. I asked for a fresh brew and the improvement was dramatic and satisfying The dessert was very different and very good. Service was average with too many times with empty tea and water glasses throughout the meal. I have tried the Raven many times but will not return again.
