V Disappointing food & server attitude

By GuapoBumsies |

Great views especially if you are staying at the hotel Wilshire below but otherwise very overpriced and nothing even remotely spectacularother then the view which on a clear day is priceless!! We send all our guests to Hotel Wilshire to stay and breakfast is never included but while most of our guests like the hotel rooms not one appreciates the breakfast up here

Great food, drinks and views. Lousy service.

By Michael P |

I want to be clear, I LOVE this place. Chef Eric Greenspan puts out a creative and delicious menu where nothing disappoints. The bar is well-stocked and offers creative cocktails. Sitting around the rooftop pool, the panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills make you forget you are in crowded LA. If you are exceptionally lucky, there is often equally impressive eye-candy in and around the pool, especially around lunchtime. The place really deserves a 4th star, and would get one if only their service wasn't so consistently bad. It's normal to be seated, then wait 10-15 minutes before someone realizes you have no menu, no water, and no one has taken your drink order. Ask for another well in advance of finishing your current one, because you are in for a long dry spell otherwise. Last night I ordered the potato soup (a menu item which is just incredible), and they delivered it to my table looking just beautiful. They left without giving me a spoon with which to enjoy it. When I finally got up and went to the bar to get a waiter's attention, it took 5 minutes to get me a spoon. In a place this small, the wait staff are incredibly talented at disappearing. (And getting the check was another 20 minute delay.) I

Rooftop Dining

Hey Tiff, how was.... The Food: We went for brunch and the food was delicious (so I hear...). I wanted something light so I only ordered the lox and bagel but my SIL (sister in law) went for the gusto and picked the pancake lasagna. The waitress mentioned this is one of the most popular menu items so what the heck! The Scene: Great view of the Hollywood Hills, brunching here is very popular so there's always good people watching. The only odd thing is the kids in the pool playing "Marco Polo" The Drinks: GREAT - mimosa craft :) #tipsyreport The Location: Conveniently located near LACMA (LA County Museum of Art); Beverly Hills; Miracle Mile. The hotel is a big "low-key" and a bit unassuming if you're not looking for it The Parking: Valet and The Roof validates but I would try to find street parking and save the money The Service: Good.... The Dam$ge: Reasonable, a good value for brunch The Reason: #SundayFunday #Brunching The D'Over?: Absolutely - thinking about a group outing next The LeftOvers?: Only my lovely tan from #Rooftop #Brunching Because you asked.... @Kimpton #WhereToEat #Ask_Tiff-LA Where is Tiff? Great views, good food

By TudorTravels |

We had breakfast at The Roof and the food was good, the service was efficient and the views were very enjoyable. If you are staying at the Hotel Wilshire, we recommend you give The Roof a try.

Not great, move on...

By Scott R |

Although I had read some mixed reviews about 'The Roof', we went up one evening because we were staying at the hotel and were too tired to look elsewhere. Some of the more negative reviews I read were 3-6 months old, so maybe they had improved; I went in with high hopes... Service wasn't great. We were seated quickly (the place was about half empty), but it took quite a while to take our order, and several orders came out before ours (for people who were seated 5-10 minutes after us!). Not good. Strangely, we also noticed the hostess was playing on her iPad the whole time (that's a first for me). The menu itself was reasonable, although somewhat pretentious, and the drink prices are outrageous (even by LA standards - $15 cocktails and $10 beers). The entrees themselves were pretty average and forgettable, not to mention tiny (the pork belly was 2 1oz pieces, small even for pork belly). The sides were actually half decent, not to mention much larger (the sides are Entree sized). If you`re at all hungry, you`d be better off just ordering a couple sides, and you`d get about double the amount of food for half the price. Overall, pretty average and forgettable. Even if you`re staying at the hotel, you can do better elsewhere seeing as restaurant central (Melrose) is about 5 mins away.

Great views - a bit pricey for what it is

By mattplant2017 |

We stayed in the hotel so this was the easiest night life on offer to us. Really nice views but I found the prices a little high for what they were.

Amazing experience

By MsKiesha |

The view is amazing! The ambiance, staff, and location was convenient! The food was delicious, plentiful, and flavorful! The atmosphere was fun and peaceful.

Worth The View, Not Much Else

By MickeyP_13 |

The views are worth the visit to this restaurant, although, the food and service leave a lot to be desired. We waited quite sometime for service but none ever arrived. I went up to the bar to order our drinks. They were then brought out to our table. The server started to walk away before I told him we would like to order food. The food came out about a half hour later, but we were really enjoying the view so it didn't bother us much. We ordered the special grilled cheese and a burger. Not very good at all, we got through half of each and just pushed the plate away. Maybe just a bad day to visit, but what a nice view. Will I come back, yes, just for a drink and the view.

Very nice view of LA and very good diners/wines/coktails at a fair price

By Emmanuel53175 |

As shared in my assessment of the Wilshire Hotel, this restaurant offers a very nice view of LA and very good diners/wines/coktails at a fair price. Would by happy to go back at any time.

Over Thinking a Basic Menu

By Trippic |

We went online to check the menu before choosing this restaurant. Basic steaks, fish, Mac and cheese, etc. When we actually saw the menu it was Mac and cheese with shrimp, wedge salad with diced olives, hush puppies with crabmeat, short rib meat on raisin bread...... We decided to take a chance and stayed and ordered. Mistake. The only things we really liked were the fries and Brussels sprouts. The basics. Stick to it.

Very good breakfasts and tasty light dinners!

By 2beans2000 |

We enjoyed two days of breakfasts at The Roof, as hotel guests, and one dinner. Breakfasts ranged from pancakes with banana compote/walnuts to egg sandwich with avocado/tomato to sweet potato hash to brioche french toast. All were flavorful and portions were generous. Prices were reasonable and service was timely and very friendly. For dinner we again enjoyed light fare, with a delicious grilled cheese sandwich with fig spread, and grilled Brussels sprouts. Nutella bread pudding topped off our dinner. Service was once again very friendly and timely. Valet parking is available. The Roof is located on the 6th floor.

Fun in the Sun!

Great location, wonderful staff, and excellent food. Enjoy mimosas poolside and the view of the Hollywood Hills.

Neat Rooftop Restaurant

By Sharon S |

We had lunch and breakfast there during our stay. The view was outstanding. Great sandwiches and salads. Breakfast was ok, it wasn't hot and the scrambled eggs were runny.

Pretty Darned Good, with a Surprising Star

By RickG23 |

We were staying at the Kimpton Wilshire and because of the rainy weather we pretty much hibernated. We had a late lunch and dinner on The Roof and had them send down breakfast. Lunch - the Grilled Cheese was well done, but it was a pretty standard flavor profile for grilled cheese maven Eric Greenspan. Try his counter joint on Melrose. The Kale Caeser Salad was again well done but, you know, a Caeser Salad. Dinner - the Bowl of Goodness with Shrimp. It's a big bowl. It was really good but we felt the proportions of the many ingredients were unbalanced. In our case, a bit too much broccoli, not quite enough quinoa. The Potato Soup - a revelation. I know. Potato Soup. But poured over a delicious pumpernickel bread pudding made with bacon, leek, and gruyere that's topped with a perfect poached egg. It was memorable. A real surprise star. We shared a Coconut Panna Cotta with Watermelon Soup for dessert. Really refreshing and flavorful. (I would recommend this not to be shared simply because it's soup, comes in bowl, with spoons.) Breakfast - standard and well done. Scrambled eggs were not overdone, a typical problem with scrambled eggs. And the bacon was crispy without being burnt, also not a sure thing in restaurants (Down with Flabby Bacon!) Service throughout was very good, pricing was okay. I'll return for that soup for sure.

Great burger in a cool spot

By Ellsterism |

sat outside in January, under the warmth of the heaters - enjoyed a great burger and a bottle of Pinot - price very reasonable considering LA prices. Friendly service - very enjoyable evening

Good food

By str8forward |

The menu here is not really cheap, but not super expensive either. Good food and great views! I had the burger which was very tasty. We also tried the pancake lasagna which was different but tasty none-the-less.

Stunning views

By Kitty Mo |

I could spend hours and hours just watching the light and clouds from this rooftop terrace. It is a great place for breakfast and any other meal. At night it is very busy and I would recommend booking a table in the evening.

Great view.

By Jerry P |

On the roof of a ultra boutique hotel the view of the city is wonderful. Eric Greenspan - celebrity chef brings wonderful small bites for lunch or cocktail hour. The small pool that the place encompasses always has some eye candy frolicking. The hotel is for the hip and beautiful so why not have one of the excellent cocktail, relax, take in the view and see the ones who hang.

Excellent location and good view

By Airbus_Guy |

This restaurant was hit or miss. One time they were on their game, the next they messed up the order. It's menu is modern and nice...

Lovely lovely expansive VIEW of the Hills!

By Sara M |

Wilshire salad and roasted salmon were great for dinner. Egg white scramble was yummy for breakfast. Good coffee as well!

Just three stars...

By Ryan S |

A prime location with food attempting something beyond mediocrity. As a top tier member of the associated hotel you'd think they know how to treat us inner circle members. Instead I waset with confusion. Main courses were "ok". Views were spectacular. The service was excellent too. It's literally the food that was underwhelming...most kimpton hotel food places blow my mind. This place was the opposite. 3 stars due to excellent service and view.

Chicken Tacos!!!

By Robbie M |

Great views of Los Angeles from up here. Food and ambience was good. Cocktails were great. And the chicken tacos - oh my gosh...the best!!! Wish there was more to the plate than the tacos, but it was delicious!

Surprisingly good food. Fine selection of "small plates" for sharing. Recommended!

By Waterloonie |

This restaurant is on the rooftop of The Hotel Wilshire but is independently owned and operated from the hotel. A wonderful place for drinks and food by the pool with superb sunset views of Beverly Hills, the Hollywood sign, and surrounding areas. On Christmas Night our family of four chose an outdoor table with a propane heater and ordered plate after plate of shareables with a couple of bottles of wine. We enjoyed every bite! Food was surprisingly good. Very efficient and friendly service. Recommended!

Great food, average service, weird set up, great views

By Gibbo1969 |

Found this place as close to daughters apartment and wanted something different. Great little rooftop area with a pretty pointless little pool. They have crammed the tables and chairs in which makes it feel really crowded. The service was friendly enough but drinks were slow in coming. Food was excellent , I had the chicken palliard which was really tasty, wife and kiddo both had tuna salads which they really enjoyed. It's a great location with nice views of the hills and would be a great place to watch the sun go down however they were determined to ruin the ambience by shifting around furniture, bringing out patio heaters, mopping the swimming pool tiles spreading a nice disinfectant smell around the dinning area and then getting the Hoover going. Really? Shame really as great food at decent prices and a lovely location.

View, Ambience & beautiful people

By RhettRussell |

It's a great place, the view is awesome and everyone in the place looks like they're from a magazine cover. Good drinks but the food is just ok. I had the mussels in curry sauce and the grilled cheese. I discovered that the curry sauce was the best dip ever for a grilled cheese sandwich -- what a combo! Parking sucks! If I were staying at the hotel I would be more likely to go back. Glad we went in but didn't live up to the hype or the extremely high check$$$$

Killer View; Average Food

By Steve421 |

We live in Los Angeles and read about this place recently. The "hook" was that it had a great view. Not too many places in L.A. offer that, so we decided to try it for lunch on a Saturday when the weather was nice. The view lived up to its billing: it really has a gorgeous view. It's on the roof of a small mid-Wlishire Hotel and there is a small pool in the middle surrounded by tables for diners. We were greeted and promptly seated, and there we sat. I finally had to go up to the hostess after at least five minutes and ask if we had a waiter. Another few minutes passed, and someone finally showed up. It was the same waiter that had walked by out table at least five times without a word. (I get that the wait staff sometimes gets busy, BUT this place is pretty small, and my experience is that when this happens, the server at least acknowledges you and tells you they'll be with you in a moment). I had the hamburger for ($15) and my wife had another dish. Both were fine, but were unimaginative (Not even in the same universe as Umami) and completely unimpressive. A bit (but not much) better than standard fast food. If I had out of town visitors, I might take them there for a drink to enjoy the view, but otherwise, we have no plans to go back.

Low trust to customers but nice view

By Marcin P:-) |

Very surprised with restaurant's policy to keep your credit card before any service... It doesn't seems trust to your customers..

Nice Rooftop Restaurant

By Travelingbear1000 |

As the name implies, the restaurant is on the roof of the Hotel Wiltshire. It offers great views and reasonably priced (for LA) food. The service was prompt and the food quite tasty. I also had a very nice cocktail. There is a pool in the middle of the rooftop, which seems a bit bizarre to me, though had no impact on my dining experience.

Great view, good food, great service

By Thomas P |

Do yourself a favor, dine or have a drink here. If you can make it at night you won't be disappointed.

View and ambiance is impressive, the service and food is not

By lowbuxlux |

This place is CUTE and is perfect for DRINKS and a small appetizer. The Ambiance: This place is on the rooftop of a hotel. You take one set of elevators up and then get into another elevator to git the roof. Seems really exclusive with the secret entrance. Once you get there there is a host table and they normally tell you to sit anywhere. There's a small 3 1/2 ft pool, and full bar area and toward the back are some cool fire pits with couches with cool views. On one side there are tall bar stool tables with stool chairs and they sit next to a see through railing. On this side your view is obstructed and you only see Wilshire blvd and hear the street traffic. On the other side are booths with a NICE view. In the middle there are an array of normal tables and chairs. There's music playing as well, nothing super loud and overbearing. Just soft and loud enough to sing along and still have a good conversation. The food: Nothing sticks out to be fantastic. The french fries and sliders are the way to go if you want to eat with your drinks. This time I had chicken wings which had a tart taste and they paired it with peanut sauce that normally goes with Chicken Satay. The mix was not pleasant. I had a bite of my sister's Grilled Cheese which was tasty and different. It had a sweet jelly in the middle which made it pop with flavor. The Service: This last visit we arrived at 1130 PM. There were plenty of tables to sit at, therefore it was not busy there. It took forever for someone to come and check on us. The original waitress gave us the wrong menu, and the next waitress who came informed us only late night menu was available. So of course it took time to decide from the new menu. Our second drink order was goofed up and that was cool because she gave us an extra drink on the house for the mistake. Overall the place is really cool for girl time and just a chill spot for drinks. Nothing on the menu is impressive for dinner. If you don't want to sit at home and just wnat to get out this is where to go. I wish they would improve the menu and service. But you don't really care about it when your laughing and drinking until your drink is empty. ha ha

Baylee was the best!!

By Edric R |

Food and view were amazing, but what made this THE BEST experience was the service and hospitality of Baylee . She was just exceptional and went way above her duties to help us with recommendation of tours and things to do in LA. She was just the best!!

There is a ton of other places in this city offering better of the both: view and food

By MT W |

We came there for a view first and foremost - I was looking for a nice place overlooking Los Angeles for lunch or dinner. Let me tell you, that the pictures on their web site are much more attractive and impressive than it all in reality: A tiny and very crowded pool on a not high roof of a mediocre hotel pretty far from everything. The tables are set along the perimeter of the pool, so you don't have much of the view sitting while eating, only if you stand up and approach to the edge where the glass panels are... As I said- it was too crowded, may be because of the weekend. We asked for a booth, but didn't get it though there were few free, the hostess seated us next to the pool where were some dogs' carriers and toys, I didn't have any place to put my purse, only if on the table or wet floor... Not nice. Menu is pretty poor and meager. One short page of few salads including kale Caesar, couple of traditional starters like tuna tartar, few sandwiches, a burger, the usual salmon and some desserts. And that was a full dinner menu, by the way. We ordered grilled cheese which was in a sandwich. Not bad, but not much of the cheese there as the bread. And a burger, which was pretty delicious - cooked rare as we asked and very tender. The service was super slow. We waited for everything forever, though it was for just two food orders and very easy ones, no any changes or undoable upgrades... But still. It's not worth to go there for any special occasion or on intention for the view- there is a ton of other places in this city offering better of the both: view and food.

Rooftop Bar

By AnySober |

We visited The Roof for a late lunch. Food was good, views were great and it had a really nice ambiance.

Limited menu of mediocre food.

By Jennifer P |

We had lunch, evening apps and cocktails there. In the morning we ordered breakfast and they didn't have any of the baked goods listed on the menu. Save your money and go elsewhere.

exceptional food against glittering LA skyline

By Alper C |

The Roof on Wilshire is Celebrity Chef Eric Greenspan’s first LA restaurant. The skyline scenery on top of the Kimpton Wilshire Hotel is amazing. We also had a full moon in the background. Started with the cheese plate. Pistachio butter was scrumptious. The cheeses including Humboldt Fog goat cheese from Cypress Grove served with honeycomb honey were delectable. Potato Soup with bacon leek bread pudding, gruyere and poached egg was exceptional. We enjoyed the roasted cauliflower with chimichurri and garlic yogurt. Entrees (Wilshire burger, salmon) were very good. As a Panda Cotta aficionado, coconut Panna Cotta served with macadamia nuts and fruit was the best I ever had. It had the perfect balance of lightness and sweetness. So we elected to enjoy the melon soup separately without pouring it on the cotta. The wine menu was limited. Wish it featured more local wines.

My happy place

By Kitty Mo |

I have been lots of times before. I knew that I had to book but there were no reservations possible, but the site recommended phoning. I called at 9.30pm and got a table for 4. When we got there it was exceptionally quiet. We were given a booth . It was really relaxed and we spent a few hours lingering over our margaritas under the full moon. From the roof we watched fireworks over Hollywood. A lovely way to spend Saturday night.

Just OK

By Brian L |

Somewhat disappointed in The Roof. We called during the afternoon for reservations for a party of 8. When we arrived, they had no record of our reservation. They were very accommodating and did arrange a table for us. The waitress seemed to be new. She was attentive for awhile but appeared to lose interest in us. They have 3 beers in tap but 2 of them were unavailable. They only carry 1 kind of bottled beer and they were out of that. The bartender claimed they had a very busy weekend, we were there on a Monday night Two of our party ordered snapper and after sometime the waitress informed them that they were out of that but would substitute another type of fish and prepare it the same way as the snapper. Both of them had the fish and said it was fine. The view from the roof was spectacular, especially at sunset, and that was the best part of our dinner that night. Our experience there was OK but If we're ever in LA again, we won't go out of our way to eat there.

Very. Very. Average

By Chris Cappola |

✅ Nice location, the view isn’t too bad either Service wasn’t too bad. ❌ Underwhelmed considering this place is usually listed as one of the “best” rooftop restaurants in LA on travel blogs The coffee was very poor. I can’t get over how watered down it was. The food was very, very average. The ricotta pancakes were far from the description. We found it all to be below standard. Not worth coming for a glimpse of a view.

Nice view and great food

By Jcgs1968 |

We were staying at the Wilshire hotel and we decided to give it a try. The food is very good and the view from the Top is awesome. However, the service is not very good, the Kitchen seems to be very small and they took a lot of time to serve.

Really nice bar and restaurant with a nice view

By Matthias M |

I had breakfast, dinner and also some dirnk during my stay in the hotel. It was always really nice and enjoyable. The service was outstanding and on the spot. The view from there is great.

Excellent views, mostly good service

By Wallingfordgal |

We stayed 4 nights at the hotel and ate our first dinner on the roof not knowing anything about it. Simply convenient and we were actually just hoping to see if the pool was worth swimming in. Turns out the pool was only 3 1/2 feet deep and really small, so no swimming for us, but we stayed for dinner and had a nice time poolside eating a burger. The food was fine, but not amazing. Our burgers didn't have buns, just toasted bread which fell apart and made the burger hard (and messy) to hold. Best part was the views, and our waitress. Unlike the totally disinterested hostess, the waitress was very friendly and chatty and made us feel very welcome.

Great views; sexy spot...

By hollywoodheather |

The phrase 'hidden gem' will be overused; but it really is. Nestled amongst Wilshire's historic Miracle Mile (do you know the wonderful history of the moniker?) Anyway; this place is great...you don't have to be in the most chic hotel on Sunset, you don't have to be in WeHo or Bel Air... this is modern, accessible and the views are truly fantastic. It's small, chic & lovely... And as an L.A. native I love being in the heart of the city and the Miracle Mile....xoxo HH

Cozy and beautiful spot for dinner and drinks

By Nancy J |

We absolutely love the Roof! Went twice while visiting last week and once when in LA last Christmas. Wonderful staff, food and drinks with an amazing view of LA! Go to spot for all future visits.

POOR SERVICE

By donnamtl |

Would have given more stars for the view and grilled cheese if the service wasn't so absolutely terrible / slow. Shame!

Bit of a let down

By AngelaFaye74 |

After reading the reviews I thought this would be the best place to take my husband for dinner with a view in LA.... it's ok. Plastic wine glasses as you are near the pool is all OSH but not very classy. Music nice. View ok. Food functional. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Great LA city view, rooftop pool, good food

By eyemlucky |

This restaurant is located on the roof of an hotel on Wilshire, so that you sit outside under the umbrellas, next to the pool eating good food. Lunch prices were good value.

Great dining ambiance and view from rooftop

By mini6322 |

Food and service is more of a 3.5. We were staying at AC Marriott and the didn’t have a liquor license and a full service restaurant yet. They referred us here. We were looking for something casual where we could have a drink and eat outdoors. The food was good and fit the bill but nothing all that memorable foodie wise. Desert was average. The views are amazing. Would go back for the rooftop dining experience; nice being outside.

Genuinely bad food

By Mike R |

The food here was resolutely subpar… From overcooked, over-vinegary pork belly, and mushy flavourless tuna tartare, the real lowlight was the ‘grilled cheese’… The hotel is making some kind of big deal about some guy’s grilled cheese book, to the point of having some odd special menu suggesting we could try 3 recipes from the book (at a combined cost of $42…). We didn’t do that, but chose the grilled cheese from the menu, as they seemed so excited about it. Worst ever. Like two pieces of fried bread with some bland cheese and tasteless tomato inside. Like someone had put a pre-made sandwich in a toaster. My dog ate it, but even he seemed to say, ‘really? They think this is rooftop dining level food?’ (Oh, and for goodness sake, spend two minutes moving the assistance seat to lower folks into your bath-size 3ft deep ‘pool’ before dinner service. And maybe turn on your false candles.) Staff were pleasant, which adds a star, and cocktails were excellent. Just don’t eat here.

Open at all hours

By tudomany |

We ate breakfast here regularly, which was fine. It was a very pleasant place to sit and adjure Los Angeles..

Great view - Small area!

By exploring1111 |

I ate here with a group of friends. Great view, great food, drinks and service, but it is a very very small and cramped area. The pool is beautiful but each time I walked by it I felt like I was going to fall in, trying to navigate around tables.

On the top of the hills

By Andrea |

The restaurant is accessible directly from the hotel elevator, it's a little bit to small but service and food are really nice. The view is one of the top of LA and during the night the view is spectacular.

Love the food and the view

By Realwoman97 |

I eat here every night when I stay in LA cause it is so convenient and fun. Great drinks and appetizers

The Roof - A Fabulous View and Great Food

By Barb K |

It was by chance that we spotted the Hotel Wilshire, a Kimpton Hotel, and then found its wonderful restaurant, The Roof. It is very easy to drive by the hotel and even walk by and not see it. This has been in place for only three years. The Roof, the restaurant, that is, boast one of the best views of Los Angeles and offers a wonderful menu of unusual, reasonably prices items. We had dinner there when the lights of the city were sparkling and it was so good we returned for breakfast, which was delicious. We regard this as a hidden treasure.

GREAT VIEWS

By NatBedenik |

Stayed there for couple of nights so we tried it for breakfast and cocktails , very nice views of the Holywood Hills, good food, cocktails and nice ambiance.

Better and Better

By Robert W |

This was our third visit to the Roof at the Wilshire and by far the most satisfying. The service was first-rate and the food tasty and appealing. It helped that the weather was quite good - a bit breezy, but the ignition of the propane gas heaters took the chill from the air. All in all, a nice LA dining experience.

Romantic setting with a fantastic view

By Alison M |

I came here for a late night bite to eat on a Saturday night and had a lovely visit! The shells and cheese was outstanding, the kale salad's dressing was perfect, and the tuna tartare appetizer was fun. The tables are closely grouped around the pool, but not uncomfortably so, and there were plenty of patio heaters throughout the area. However, the real knock out is the beautiful view of LA and the hills. It's a truly magical setting on a nice night!

Bad Fast Food

By Bamboo66 |

Any fast-food joint does it better. The wooden salt and pepper shakers are greasy and un-hygienic. Have a drink here, but eat elsewhere.

Feel like an LA insider

By Clockhar |

Amazing rooftop restaurant with great views and inspiring drinks. It got a little cold when they ran out of propane for the heaters but we still had a great time. I recommend going early when the sun is up for the best views.

Good Food, Terrible Service

By Andrew |

We were staying at the hotel so decided to try this place. The food was decent but the service was poor and arrogant. Newsflash to staff: this is the roof of a 3 star hotel, not Studio 54 in 1979. What does resemble 1979 is the fact that people waiting are allowed to smoke (which wafted into our table's area). We complained and the meal was comped (after the fact), which still didn't make up for wasting our evening.

Expecting more

By Arthur Gadfly |

Overlooking a huge lemonade billboard, the restaurant seats diners precariously around a tiny tile pool, circa 1965, offers a limited fare and not a single surface was clean or well kept. On the positive, the food quality was good and the staff was quick to address any issues, presumably as a result of the intermittent yelling/cursing heard from the kitchen.

Yummy Sandwich with a view

By Mary B |

I grabbed lunch here to have some time in the sun between meetings. The food was good and served quickly. The view is very nice and the atmosphere is relaxed .

Feels soooo LA!!

By Astra G |

Amazing view, great atmosphere and good value (especially the jug of mimosa!) The Bowl of Goodness is great for a late lunch or dinner.

Come for the view, not the food

By RogueTraveler |

The Roof is a trendy spot for a poolside Sunday brunch. The restaurant is located on the roof of the Wilshire Hotel and offers incredible views of the Hollywood sign, observatory, and Griffith Park. Outdoor tables are tightly packed around the hotel's pool so don't be surprised if a few guests show up to sunbathe or swim while you're eating. We relaxed with mimosas and soaked our feet while we waited for our table to open up. The menu offers a wide variety of options for reasonable LA prices. I ordered the Pancake Lasagna -- a creative combination of pancakes, sausage, eggs, cheese, bacon, and maple syrup. It's a wonderful concept but could use some fine-tuning. It was very dry and crumbled apart, making it difficult to eat with a fork instead of a spoon. Despite the food, the drinks and scenery are worth it. Tip for fair-skinned tourists: apply ample sunscreen because only a few tables have shade.

Great view!

By 2goodkarma |

Wonderful view of the city and the staff are ALL extremely good looking and kind. Awesome customer service!!! Loved it all. Thank you.

Good food, service lacked luster

By Jennifer B |

The food was pretty good but like a lot of LA restaurants, the waiters were just running through the motions.

good food - so so service

By princezzp |

After work happy hour was great. Fabulous drinks and great food however the service was not the best. they almost seemed annoyed that we were there

Wonderful rooftop dining in the middle of L.A.

By Gerry G |

We had a wonderful breakfast here one Sunday morning. The rooftop restaurant is bright and colorful with a pool to add ambiance (and a place for kids to amuse themselves) and a fantastic view. The menu was interesting and varied with salads, wraps with more substantial fare for lunch and dinner. From a breakfast selection of build your own scrambles, pancakes and yogurt parfaits, I chose the California Eggs Benedict which was an L,A. twist on the usual eggs benedict with avocado. Delicious! The service was splendid and the coffee strong. This is a delightful place to have breakfast on a sunny California morning.

Uncooked Chicken and Bad Service

By lifeandmylens |

- Ordered chicken at the rooftop bar for lunch - it wasn't cooked all the way and and ended up spitting out chewy cold chicken in the middle. Great, lets hope I don't get salmonella. - Waiters at the rooftop restaurant are TERRIBLE. Barely speak English, and are nowhere to be found when you need refills, and any service at all. Both times we went there, I had to go find them joking around to get the check.

Good food

By Barbro N |

The food is good ,served hot not lukewarm.Service needs "fine tuning".Waiters congregating and just chatting in Spanish does not look good, should not be in public

This is a small area around a tiny roof top pool. Food was pretty tasty. Service was ok but the view it what it's about!!! Amazing views of the Hollywood Hills.

Expensive, maybe...but SO worth it!

By tdevoy22 |

Oh. My. Goodness! We were in town and tried this fantastic place during the LA food week. Every part of our visit was amazing. From the drinks to the desserts were perfectly prepared. If you have a special event or some reason to impress, don't hesitate to go here! The views alone are worth it.

Great place for a light dinner

By operalover939 |

The view is nice, though hardly spectacular, but the ambience, complete with heating standards, is very agreeable, and the service is first-rate. Having had a late lunch in LACMA a few blocks to the east, we did not want a large dinner, and that made The Roof just right for us. My wife had a large and tasty salad, while I had the chicken club and fries. The sandwich was certainly ample, and the addition of avocado give it something extra. We would certainly go back.

Chips and scratches

By ArthurGFGadfly |

I should have known what to expect from The Roof when the sign that should have read "BAR" was chipped to actually read "BAP". Pick a spot, any spot, and you will be able to find some damage, scuff, stain or gouge. There is absolutely no attention paid to presentation, as the workers there use dirty mops to swish around grey water. In putting my hand down on the countertop, it came up sticky - from what I dare not ponder. The food there is decent enough so long as you do not mind huddling around a three foot "pool" and sharing with bathers while you eat. On a positive note, the staff there is sufficiently pleasant and any order that was placed was prepared correctly. It is, however, difficult to focus on the food when the rickety, dirty table captures the attention.

In the middle of Wilshire Blvd up on the top of a Hotel this place has great food and views

By Evelynne G |

This is on top of a Hotel on Wilshire Blvd . The food was very good surroundings beautiful as you overlooked a pool area to the hills and the Hollywood sign. This is a really trendy venue. we were there for lunch and the server was delightful. The food was very good. The Burger was delicious. This is a very relaxing venue to while away the day.

Great views, average food

By Gypsgris |

Is was a windy and thus cold evening. The heating unit worked well, when the wind stopped. The wine was good but small amounts at a hefty price. The food was average for the cost which was high. Worth it to go for the views, not the food. The service was good but we weren’t sure, if they forgot us or just didn’t want to disturb us.

The last place you'd expect food this good.

By Michael P |

I saw it was nearby where I was working and stopped in for lunch. What a pleasant surprise. Their potato soup served over gruyere cheese, a poached egg, apples and a bacon bread pudding was a work of art! Had a great turkey club to go with it, which did not disappoint. The view is excellent, and I'm sure when the pool is full of beautiful people it's also a treat for the eyes. Service was friendly and efficient, as well as knowledgeable about the menu. I will certainly be back for their happy hour!

Dissapointed

By 886Kim |

Visited at lunchtime, intending to return for dinner and breakfast. However it was to small and to noisy, not what I was expecting at all. Never returned.

Chose this location near our AC hotel. Rooftop dining with great views of LA.

Another limited options as far as food, small plates and some other options. Full bar. Not a large place, required two elevator rides to reach the rooftop. Service good but somewhat leisurely. Food was average to better, not outstanding. Good place to go for the ambience and the view.

pleasant restaurant

Good meal but unless you have an appetite like an elephant you don't need dessert. The brownie we ordered came with caramel, cream, white chocolate, candied nuts and compote of fruit and the brownie was th size of Australia!!

Amazing View, Good Food and Drinks!

By Cellowu |

Since I stayed at the hotel for a whole week, I came up to The Roof a couple of times, for breakfast, dinner, and cocktails. What I love the place best is the spectacular view -- be it early morning, afternoon, or late night, the roof gives me the chance to admire beautiful LA skyline and Hollywood Hill. The food and drinks are good. One of the memorable item I had is The Pancake Lasagna from the breakfast - a very innovative dish. I also enjoyed the signature cocktail - Wilshire Mule. The Roof is not a big space, with a swimming pool occupying most of its floor in the middle, there is limited seating. Given the amazing views it offers, this place can get extremely busy during evening hours. Make sure to make reservation as early as possible. For hotel guests like me, I will recommend visiting this place at quiet(er) hours - morning, early afternoon, or late night - the staff is less overwhelmed and the service is better and more attentive.

Great laid back bar and pool

Cocktails and the different menus are really great. The view is amazing and the ambiance is fantastil.

Wonderful views with decent food.

Atop the Kimpton-Wilshire, this small restaurant has an amazing pool and skyline view. Very romantic at night.

Try the Grilled Cheese

By Max J |

GREAT ROOFTOP! The views are awesome and the Grilled Cheese is the best I've ever had! The staff is not the most experienced, but the food makes up for it. Plus - it's not that expensive...

Best part of my trip to LA

By sdj2011 |

Was visiting LA for a few days and this place was recommended to me so I figured we would check it out. It happened to be a beautiful day out and the view is truly amazing. The service was very good and the food was excellent - I ordered the cinnamon French toast. Definitely a relaxing and tasty experience.

Not impressed.

By MrVanes |

Waiters were slow and weren't paying attention to patrons. Food was mediocre at best. While we were in a hurry, four waiters were having a heated discussion about something and not paying attention to their patrons. The fries were lukewarm and the 'tuna melt' was greasy (bread) and I didn't get to taste the 'crispy shallots, fennel, and remoulade' anywhere. Not even worth half the $18! Breakfast was of the same order. When asked for coffee I received on cup out of a thermo that had been standing on the table for a while (for a friend of mine). We were never asked for a refill. The scrambled eggs with mushrooms, bacon and cheddar cheese took a while because after ten minutes the waiter came back saying 'the cook got confused'! Or was it the waiter who, yet again, wasn't paying any attention? The rooftop is a great place to hang out around the pool. No good for food, or the outdoor lounge area though!

Good food and service

By LuaA1982 |

Had breakfast a few times at the restaurant, food was always good and so was the service. Also had dinner (from room service) and have no complaints. Very fast service and the food was good.

Waiters were awesome! Food was ok.

By Liseth_CaliGirl |

First, I would like to say that our waiters at The Roof were amazing guys. Excellent customer service skills! Definitely deserve their bosses recognition. All wore black w/Rayban sunglasses. We came for my friends birthday brunch and she got plenty of drinks, dessert and we all got about 3 rounds of great shots. FYI it is a poolside brunch w/some disappointments there was no music and no umbrella's to shield the beaming sunlight. Outdoor tables are tightly packed around the hotel's pool so don't be shocked if hotel guests show up to sunbathe or swim while you're eating... On the Brightside the restaurant offers amazing views of the entire Hollywood area and some central LA area. You can see the Hollywood sign, observatory, and Griffith Park. Plenty of street parking on Wilshire on Sundays there is no meter restrictions and Valet if you'd like to pay for parking.

A hidden gem of a rooftop in LA near the Miracle Mile.

Great view of the hills and lovely ambience. When I went it was a weekday and so fairly quiet, service and food were both great. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy the cocktails and the view.

on a hot summer day it might be better

By christian m |

But on a cold rainy night it just felt small and cheap. Plastic glasses. I didnt think the food was that good or affordable. The restaurant is tiny. If this was in the Village in NY I'd buy it but in LA having small tables packed right next to each other is just a fail. It doesnt even feel like a restaurant in that they were pushing ordering drinks over looking at the food. French vibe but both the iceberg wedge and roasted brussle sprouts had too many hot peppers and capers in them. Totally overwhelmed tastes that were highlighted on the menu. I cant imagine I'd ever choose to eat here again.

Great night for my first visit at The Roof

By Darcy J |

Have a few days left so asked my friend to suggest a couple places. I chose The Roof. First off, the view at night is great. You can see all of Hollywood to Beverly Hills and the hills above. Although the low lighting allowed for a nice experience of the view, it didn't help with reading the menu. I had The Wilshire Salad with a chicken breast. My friend had the Filet Mignon. Both of us really enjoyed our meals. We had drinks too. I had The Mulberry. Waaaaay better drinks than the other night at Laurel Hardware. For dessert, I had the ice cream (mango sorbet and coconut) my friend had the cheese plate. I devoured mine and he worked away on what he said was a really nice spread of cheese. Stuck around, had a couple more drinks and just hung out. Nice server too. I think her name was Suzanne? Just a really enjoyable evening all around. Price was good value for the food/drink quality, view and service.

Pricey but beautiful!

By Sami G |

Came here for a beautiful evening dinner; around 7pm in the magic hour to watch the sunset. Service was very nice! And food was good! The Champ was definitely a good choice! But I would more so recommend coming here for a drink instead of dinner. They also have a nice out door lounge up top to enjoy a drink next to the fire.

Small menu, big view, rooftop pool at Hotel Wilshire

By Shreddie |

We were staying in the hotel so knew we'd be eating here at some point. I had searched it out online in advance and saw it was a limited menu so knew what to expect. However, the salads and quinoa bowl (with seared ahi) were wonderful. Love the "healthy" option. The service was friendly and very attentive. We had a lovely dinner experience. It might not be the swankiest rooftop in LA but the prices were down to earth and it had a nice vibe to it. The views are 360 from this perch. If you're in the neighborhood, or certainly at the Hotel Wilshire, I'd check it out.

Great views, lovely pool

By Jennifer C |

this is such a nice spot any time of day. For breakfast and lunch it is very relaxed - such a nice spot to sit by the pool or look at the Hollywood hills. In the evening it is more lively, with great lighting and lovely food and drinks.

Good food with amazing scenery

By Lillayee |

Went for Sunday brunch and I enjoyed it. Once 12 o'clock people start coming in but I had a 11 o'clock reservations so we had outside seating. Mimosas and food was really good. Scenery is even better !

Delicious Brunch, Lively People Watching

By AlisonGF |

We were nervous to let our 3 kids swim in the tiny pool but no one seemed to mind as the mimosas kept coming from the bar... The food was truly inventive & delicious. Who knew that our hotel had a restaurant hot spot on the roof? Definitely a plus to our trip.

Great view of the city

By A Narwhal |

Great view of the city here and an enjoyable brunch. We had a carafe of mimosas, The Bowl of Goodness plus steak which I thoroughly enjoyed - it had veggies, steak and siracha. What more can you ask for. We wanted to try the pancake lasagna but they were out, and we instead opted for a more plain breakfast of bacon and eggs which was probably a mistake but when faced with an unexpected result we hurried a decision when we should have taken more time and perhaps ordered the sweet potato hash. 3.5 stars.

Great food..great view

By sue |

Great view with great view. Very relaxing....went mid week and for nice table with view. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Healthy and unhealthy choices for dinner. Little pricy but your paying go the ambiance. Would be happy to dine here again.

Don't go if you have any class

By Helenthehelper |

Staff rude, demeaning and unprofessional. The host gave us the finger as we asked for his name to report his service. Wilshire Kimpton you can do better than these thugs.
