Splendid. Very glad we walked past & ate here!

By Craig K |

Wonderful restaurant right across from the beach. My wife really enjoyed the samon and polenta as she generally doesn't like Mexican food. She said it was delicious. I had the taco Asada. It was wonderful with a nice spicy after taste.

Eating at The Shore's in La Jolla, Ca

By Jennifer M |

Nice place to sit, (especially by the window, ) looking out onto the beach, watching birds. The food is great and fresh and the waiters efficient and so helpful. After eating you can take a stroll on the sand and enjoy the sea breeze. Love the Shores at La Jolla

Hidden Gem

By Bryan L |

My wife and I ended up having Dinner at the shores on their lawn area with the fire pits and it made an amazing experience! We haven’t been here in years since we’ve had our first kid and the food is as tasty as we Remember! Our server Anthony was really attentive and approachable. He recommended the fish trio and the grilled octopus, they did not disappoint! Towards the end of our meal he brought us a free dessert and said it was a “welcome back” treat. That definitely made our night. Highly recommend coming here food/ service was amazing!

Welcome Back The Shores Restaurant. ( Dine on the beach) La Jolla Shores Hotel

By Anthony C |

This restaurant was under lockdown way too long. Now has an all day menu from Noon to 7:00pm. A great place to stop in during or after the beach. The view is spectacular. The menu is uncomplicated but very creative. Plenty of selections; enough for your satisfaction. The Tuna Poke Bowl is awesome. Colorful with all kinds of textures and flavors. Loaded with ahi tuna sashimi. Pickled ginger, wakambi seaweed salad, avocado, garnished with garlic chips and a red "caviar-type” roe. Much more tuna than rice. A substantially tasty dish. Be sure to ask for the wasabi aioli which comes on the side. I’ll be back......as always for the food, atmosphere, and always personable service.

Top Notch Mexican Themed Food with Excellent Views

By DrMomof4 |

Honestly, had I realized the Mexican theme before we arrived, I might have skipped and missed this gem. I was in the mood for a sunset dinner, and they provided it in spades! Fantastic views! The menu seemed limited to a few fish dishes and tacos. I had salmon with risotto, and my husband had swordfish. Both were fantastic! We also enjoyed the street corn appetizer. Left very full. Attentive service. Enjoyed greatly!

Shores - great view, food very solid and reasonable

By Nvrlost |

The Shores - after a great sunset - and you can watch from your table if you want - is Ocean front. The wait staff was very pleasant - really nice in fact. The food was very good, surprising for the hotel. Drinks were reasonable. Did I say service was excellent? Very nice and not fancy, but well presented dinner mad for an overall great meal in the dining room. Over people were eating in the bar area.

Beware of High Parking Charges

By SoCalGal11 |

A $95 dinner + $17 parking fee (including the $5 validation from restaurant) divided by 3 hours spent in the restaurant = $37 an hour. This is much too high a price for this casual restaurant. Do they really expect restaurant guests to park on the street in the evening (if any spaces can be found) when the neighborhood is known for car break-ins ? The underground parking garage is a selling point to coming here, but at that price, it's better to choose another place and save your money. Sorry, this restaurant isn't worth the high parking charge.

Lovely place for birthday dinner!

By afirefly70 |

Lovely place for dinner! We had a birthday dinner at the Shores recently. The hotel is seating on the open patio that looks over the beautiful beach. We were there right at sunset, which really adds to the atmosphere. We were hoping to be seated closer to the edge with our reservation and notes about it being a special occasion, but we got seated about as far back on the patio as you can go. We could still see the sun setting over the spectacular ocean anyway, just looking past many tables. The food was all delicious and service was attentive. We had cocktails, some of the poke bowls, their NY steak, and a couple other dishes in our party. We were all very happy with our order and with the drinks! We did ask them to help us with a birthday cake, but they were obviously cautious with the pandemic and they just provided items for us to cut/serve our own cake. It would have been nice if they offered to sing or something, but I guess even that could be dangerous these days. I’d love to return! I’m even intrigued by the hotel it’s in because of its perfect location.

Treasure open to public but in middle of hotel

By Denise J |

Three of us enjoyed cocktails at the bar while looking out unto the shoreline before dinner. Two TVs aired football keeping everyone happy ( no to low volume, good for atmosphere) Dined with calamari, filet migon, sea bass, scallops. Only two drawbacks I tasted red coconut rice dry or reheated and my beet salad soaked in dressing. However that said, lovely evening, good service. Sea Bass moist, tender and flavorful as was filet. Desserts limited and too fancy. Simpler might be better on this point. But then we were too full, so we probably should have passed.

Was great

By Al S |

Breakfast was prepared a lot better than what it was before, seems cook was replaced but I feel now it’s a lot better. I enjoyed eating and talking with staff, especially Juan Gonzales.

Lunch at the Beach

By faycassi |

Perfect location for a casual lunch with a view of the ocean. We sat on the patio, plenty of umbrellas for sun protection. Variety of menu choices, service good, non hovering yet easily available if you need assistance. Prices are reasonable. Full bar service for those who enjoy an adult beverage. Parking is located under the hotel and validated if you eat at the restaurant.

Gray Lady Down

By milessharon72 |

Our family has been patrons of the restaurant for 40 years. We have lived in La Jolla for most of that time. What was once an upscale dining experience has become mediocre at best. I think the owners of the hotel are banking their success on proximity to the ocean, but for us, that no longer works. The food was less than fresh, and if an award was given for thick, stale batter on shrimp and fish, they would win hands down. The service was unreliable, the servers stated they felt a lack of support by their employers. The cleanliness is an invitation to the board of health as the floors were filthy, especially in the ladies bathroom where I don't believe they have cleaned the facility in 40 years!! I can see where tourists would find the experience pleasing because of location. Goodbye Shores...a shame.

Good food in a great location

By Keith60922 |

Lovely seashore setting which was quiet, Great service which was efficient and friendly Superb crab cakes and PoBoys.

Delightful Lunch

By Josée F |

Met with friends to share a meal and take a walk on the beach. Did was excellent, service was friendly and efficient and the view was beautiful. I highly recommend.

We enjoyed our time so much We went for brunch on July The weather was great Amazing service, food, drinks and spectacular view

Great spot for brunch right

By Maria |

Great spot for brunch right on the sand! The menu is great and the service and scenery is equally as nice.

A Perfect Spot For Datenight!

By Michaela M |

Our dinner experience was lovely and cozy. Isai was wonderfully polite and attentive, and gave great recommendations on the menu items, which are refreshed every so often so you know you're getting the best ingredients and flavors! The scenery was romantic and accented by the soothing sounds of waves rolling onto the shoreline. We'd love to come back again, whether it be for a special occasion, or simply for a much needed date night out. Thank you to the staff of The Shores Restaurant for having us!

Stayed At the Hotel

By Steven N |

The staff were great and service was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was here considering the price. The happy hour specials are not to be missed! The view adds a great atmosphere at Sundown.

Sunday brunch

By Jackie F |

Fabulous views & Brunch today. Not crowded at 10 am Sunday. Spa omlette was great. We met friends here & enjoyed ourselves. Yes you pay to park but it is convenient. Definitely will return.

Great Views

By SDAR |

We had dinner at The Shores Restaurant (in the La Jolla Shores Hotel). The views were great, the food and service were very good, and the drinks were good. When you are at a window table overlooking the La Jolla Shores beach as the sun is setting, you tend not to pay attention to much else. But, for a mid-week dinner, The Shores is a great option for a lot less than many other restaurants in La Jolla. Note: they have a parking garage below the hotel, so you don’t have to try to find a parking space on an always crowded street.

Christmas Dinner watching the waves.

By Roger F |

This was an excellent place for Christmas dinner. Great views, good food, pretty good service. It was cold and windy so we sat inside but could still enjoy the magnificent view.

A perfect romantic dinner for my 40th!

By Knb4evr |

The Shores is a restaurant located in a hotel right on the beach in La Jolla. The dining area is very large (and beautiful) and stretches across the beach side of the hotel so you can sit right by the window and watch everyone enjoying the beach. The only downside to this is there are a lot of people...a lot of kids so it kind of took away from the romantic side of things. But we went early (5:30pm) and as it got later all the families started leaving the beach area. I think the prime time to go for a romantic dinner would be 6:30 as the sun stemmed to set around 7:30. You have a perfect view for a beautiful sunset if you start long enough. The food was really delicious. The service was great. We would definitely come back!!

Love to eat at the Shores.

By TJ F |

Any chance I get, I love eating here and love bringing new friends here. The food is always excellent and the view on the beach and ocean is spectacular. Always a hit when I bring new guests here.

Quick Trip to Cali

By Susan K |

On a business trip to San Diego my hubby and I extended our trip to stay in La Jolla. We read The Shores Restaurant had great reviews so decided to give it a try. Our dinner started out a little rocky with the appetizer served cold but that was quickly corrected. Our entrees were AMAZING! I had the scallops were were honestly the best I’ve ever had. My husband and sister had the NY strip Oscar which was perfect for both and my brother-in-law had the shrimp pasta which was great as well. We will would all HIGHLY recommend this place.

Lunch

By Larissa P |

Matt was a wonderful server, and the food was pretty good besides the price. Great ocean views. Try the kale salad and the birthday dessert.

Yes to dinner no to breakfast

By Marilyn D |

We had a lovely dinner but breakfast was A disappointment. Fruit looked discolored shrunken and old, omelette lacked flavor. We were guests in the hotel, and got coffee in the lobby. When we came into the restaurant with the coffee from the lobby, the waitress gave us a lecture. Then the breakfast was lousy as well. But dinner was pretty good and the view is spectacular. So yes to dinner and the view and no to breakfast

The Steak Burrito is a great California Burrito.

By Jared L |

Isail was great. The steak burrito was the best. It is exactly what I hope for in a Cali burrito. The salsa and chips were great.

Extremely bland & dry $25 Grilled Pacific Rockfish Tacos!

By Tohono |

This was our 3rd time eating at The Shores. Previously we tried their wonderful Carlsbad Black Mussels and their delicious Tuna Poke. Today we opted for the Grilled Pacific Rockfish Tacos; huge mistake! The tacos were just tasteless and the fish was super dry and bland! Even Rubio's serves better tacos!! Additionally the whole dish presentation was unappealing with its brown color due to the chips and tortillas. All in all a very disappointing yet expensive experience. 3 thumbs down.

Good Food Bad Situation

By muley777 |

My two adult daughters and myself chose to go to dinner a little early the night of July 7. We were seated at an outside table and throughly enjoyed a beautiful meal and several drinks. The bill was presented and I was dumbfounded at the charges! Charges were very different from what we ordered. Twice I asked for an explanation. It turns out our waitress gave us Brunch menus but we were charged for dinner prices! I talked with several people in charge and finally given a 20% discount, which still did not cover the difference. SO disappointed, a beautiful evening spoiled. They should have immediately changed our bill to Brunch charges and it would have been forgotten but this left a bad taste!

Great views, great service, great food

By Mike M |

We ate in the bar area overlooking the Pacific Ocean and La Jolla Cove and indulged on ahi ceviche and ahi nachos with a bottle of pinot gris. Our server was attentive and friendly. A wonderful evening.

Fine dining experience.

By sharonl123 |

We found this restaurant while just walking around on the beach in La Jolla. What a wonderful surprise. The service was excellent. The food was very delicious. I will definitely want to return next time I am in the area.

Excellent food and an even better view!

By 23shaned |

Got the local sea bass (most expensive lunch item) and a gin cocktail. Worth every penny for the pan fried heaven they served up. I would definitely go back!

Unexpectedly pleasantly breakfast

By Ruben B |

I was bit late to my reservation for traffic early in the morning but upon arrival I was greeted by the nice server and had me seated right away without a problem, my experience in La Jolla shores was amazing with the courteous bartender david he greeted me well making me feel safe likely like home I had a couple questions about the drinks on the menu and david was really mesmerizing hearing a young man know their liqueurs by mind . Because it was a long menu after all. While ordering breakfast with the bartender david I like how he listened closely on what I wanted on my chilaquiles pretty much light sauce on the chilaquiles and it came out how expected . After I ordered my food I asked the bartender david how good was the tiki tiki and he was mentioning to me it was his top selling one in the menu. As I gave him green light for that tiki tiki, I started to spectate the bartender how he prepared my drink and to be honest it looked delicious when he was making it especially with the top off of a slice of pineapple at the end . Once my drink was served I was truly satisfied with my drink how was made delicious not to strong not to sweet just about right just how I like my alcohol. Also to add bartender David’s coworker I want to believe his name is Philip? Great guy I love the support he gives to his team .

David saved my life

By jaina j |

Came for a sunset sip of rose with my friends and David saved my life! It was a beautiful night and he was so kind and friendly and just overall made the vibes feel so welcoming and fun. Would recommended for a sunset spot with a cutie little fire pit any day of the week.

OK food.

By JD567 |

Nothing special; a little overpriced for the quality of the food. Had the fish tacos and they were decent.

Best experience ever! Diverse, fun, pet friendly and wheel chair accessible and friendly to all!!!

By Summer B |

David who worked as our server and bartender went above and beyond for my mother and I. He was so kind, sweet, generous with his time, and just over all an Angel to my mom and I. We will be coming back just to see him again!!!

Food ok, service erratic and slow

By CGUrbanaIllinois |

Some of the offerings are fine. The service is very spotty--the nicest possible interpretation is that it's California laid-back.

Shores lunch

By lsa2013 |

Great views, friendly service and good food. Enjoyed the clam chowder (and normally would stay for happy hour but had errands to run )

Yum with a view

By sdroadster |

We went as two couples. The restaurant enjoys views of la Jolla shores to enhance your dining experience. The food was nicely prepared and presented. The staff was attentive during our evening. Great place for a romantic date or friends and family.

Fish Tacos, sunsets and s’mores.

By Patricia B |

Beautiful location to watch the sunset. I had the rockfish tacos and they were on point. If you can snag a fire pit and get a s’mores kit it would be lovely evening for a family or couple.

Great Seafood and Service with a view of the Pacific Ocean

By Joseph D |

My wife and I were hoping for great seafood and to be as close to the Pacific Ocean as possible. The Shores restaurant delivered all we wanted and more. Our Server took great care of us as we had a wonderful evening. We had fried calamari, a fresh treatment of split pea soup, Kale salad with strawberries and salmon, fish tacos with mahi-mahi and a delicious portion of butter fish, served on top of a wonderful medley of fresh vegetables. Desert was a Chocolate bombe. Excellent!

Dinners for family and take out day for the beach...

By Dorrie K |

Delicious food and pretty as well inside. Friendly waiters and great with kids. A little pricey I thought but was very good. Would return...

Wonderful Surprise!

By SDCandybar |

We had dinner at the Shores as a last minute reservation for a birthday weekend and it exceeded all expectations. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and server both wishing us happy birthday. Our table had a fantastic view and the food was excellent. The rolls came out warm and the portion sizes were unexpected. I had the steak oscar and asked for it to be well done and they did a great job of keeping it juicy but with no pink. The fingerling white and purple potatoes with asparagus were great accompaniments to the meal. We also had the jambalaya which had the right amount of heat and was delicious. As a birthday surprise, they allowed us to pick a wonderful creme brulee for dessert. It was a wonderful surprise and we will be back!

Great food, sweet location

By Michael V |

Great food, sweet location - - - - - - - - February, 2025 Visit My wonderful wife and I just enjoyed a trip to Pam Desert and San Diego, with a visit to La Jolla. Cousins joined us in San Diego, for the Major League Soccer game, with the new San Diego FC team, hosting or St. Louis CITY SC team… and they recommended kayaking La Jolla Shores. THAT was a LOT of fun, and afterwards, we needed lunch. Shores restaurant is right on the beach… water, sand, sidewalk, Shores Restaurant. They have tables at ground level, open to the surf air, other outside tables shielded from ocean breezes with clear plexiglass /glass, and they have inside tables. They have several gluten feee (GF) options. We ordered and enjoyed: - burgers & fries - rockfish tacos Everything tasted incredibly good and the views are great! Thank you, [La Jolla Hotel &] Shores Restaurant! ----- ----- -----

Green Mango Smoothie??

By weez9040 |

We ordered two Mango Smoothies ($9.00 each). They came out green and we questioned if they were Mango as they were green! Girl said it was the protein powder that made them green! Didnt even taste like Mango! They were very average! Surprised they even served it up! We left two 3/4 smoothies on the table! Yuck!

Amazing

By Jonathan M |

Great view, great hospitality! wouldn’t trade it for the world. People are amazing and food is top tier. Couldn’t beat the shores hotel!

Not recommended

By Suzanne D |

The outdoor patio has a pleasant setting, but the inside dining room seemed very dated and even smelled stale -- which is quite a feat, considering that it's located beachfront with ocean breezes just outside. Fish tacos were over-breaded and fried, guacamole and black beans seemed over-processed and like they probably came out of a frozen food package and/or can.

A Solid Second-Choice Option

By Chaptak |

To put the review title in context, here is a short intro. My wife and I were meeting a friend for dinner on a Saturday night. We had a short list of favorites in La Jolla and Del Mar. The short list didn't work out -- no reservations were available. As a consequence, we ventured outside of the "familiarity zone" and ended up at The Shores. That turned out to be a choice that I rate as a solid "not bad." Why doesn't The Shores get five stars? The reason is the menu. It is an eclectic mix, but there doesn't seem to be anything on it that is truly outstanding (although I didn't try any of the $15 burgers). That said, all bases are covered and you won't leave hungry. (My wife thought that her risotto was bland, but that is the only negative thing I can say about the food.) Some other rapid-fire comments: there is a garage in the building, which is a plus in La Jolla; that garage is small and was a little tight for navigation in a mid-size SUV (Grand Cherokee); the view is spectacular; the dining room is spacious (no problem getting reservations on a Saturday -- and no bumping elbows with guests at neighboring tables); the service in our case was attentive and personable -- high marks for that! So, The Shores left a good impression -- but didn't exactly make it to the top of our list. So, we may be back again -- on a night when all our other favorites are booked.

Amazing Service (Thanks David)! + Awesome Views

By Stay451392 |

The Shores Restaurant was a fantastic place to celebrate our anniversary! David was the perfect waiter (as an added bonus he is an amazing photographer too)! He made everything special and was so kind + capable -- we will be forever grateful. Plus, the ocean views are spectacular and the food was delicious. Many thanks!

Anniversary Dinner

By Patricia S |

We wanted something romantic for our Anniversary. This hit the mark. The sunset view was amazing. My husband had the swordfish which was cooked perfectly. I had the Lobster pot pie. Big chunks of Lobster in a light sauce. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Very Good Happy Hour Snacks and Drinks, and a Fabulous View

By Dionges1 |

Stopped by for a quick Happy Hour and to relax and look at the beach and the ocean from the bar. Very pleasant and the service and drinks and food, top notch. Excellent Margaritas!

Lunch

By FredN47 |

Wonderful restaurant by the beach. Very relaxing and nice view. Hamburger was very good. Highly recommend.

Great happy hour

By Linda R |

Stopped here for happy hour after few hours on the beach. Great happy hour today from 3-6 pm with $8 drinks and appetizers. Excellent. And gorgeous view of beach.

something for everyone - and we had 3 generations!

By Geoff S |

We walked over here from the LJBTC and really enjoyed a delicious breakfast. There were a dozen of us in our group, spanning 3 generations and everyone enjoyed their meal.

high price tag!

By Salu |

This restaurant is located inside the hotel. We decided to eat lunch here because it had a view of the beach. The setting is fancy and the views were great but the food - nothing special, so you are paying a "high price" for the view. The veg tortilla soup was acceptable. The fish taco - ok, the kale salad was good but hardly any manchego cheese in it. The veggie caprese wrap was good but very little veggies inside. The fries were good and so was the coffee. Service - adequate and nothing special.

GREAT value and AWESOME view of Pacific.!

By matt f |

Great value and you can sit outside or in with huge windows. Tuesday is typically Burger and Beer night for 15 bucks! Great breakfast and walk out to La Jolla beach!

Best best best service

By Abby E |

Our server, Isai, was AMAZING!! Took care of our needs and everything. The food was good, service was impeccable!! More people should be like our server!!

Disappointed for the price

By WanderingOttersons |

Great views from our table, watching the beach and tides but the food was far less than anticipated for the price we paid. We split a Caesar salad to start - easy and crisp so this was fine. The entrees were both disappointing. The swordfish lacked flavor and was a little dry. Not much going for it as the couscous was the best part of the whole dish. The salmon was well cooked. The flavor and sides were better than the swordfish but nothing special compared to many similar priced meals we've had before. Definitely not a place we'd revisit if we came back to the area.

Kind staff and good atmosphere, not as good for the food.

By Giorgio |

Restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, filled with families however—which does mean that it can get quite loud. I ate the salmon, which smelled like old fish. At first I didn’t make much of it since I was starving. However, I soon realised that it was best not to finish the dish, just to be on the safe side. Fortunately, or might I say unfortunately, I still had to spend my next morning staring at my hotel’s bathroom interior design. Would not recommend.

Yummy Shores Restaurant

By Stacy L |

Ate every night in the hotel - since we stayed there. We would eat and then play cards and it was so relaxing! Our family tried almost everything on the menu. Best things: Mussels and the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich.

Always a good option for view dining

By DeeAnn M |

As another post replied, this is a mainstay spot that seems to always have tables available when other places are packed. My office is close to the shores so we often take guests here without a worry about reservations or a wait. The food is consistently good, along with the service. The menu offers some delicious fish selections and the prices are not over the top. We recently visited for a lighter meal in the bar, which has the same view and happy hour pricing in the early evening. The ocean view is actually better here than spots in the village, as almost every table has a view. Parking is available down below the hotel, as it can be used by restaurant guests even if you are not spending the night here. They will validate your ticket and the price is less than other lots in the village. The Shores Restaurant is a very good choice for a nice dining experience. It is almost like a secret gem, although can get busy during summer months so it is always good to make a reservation during seasonal peak times.

Excellent but pricey for what you get

By JackofPBFL |

The best thing about The Shores is the view of the ocean and our server Lee. They have a nice menu with a good variety. We just got entrees and the excellent French rolls they make they were filling and tasty. The restaurant is quiet and patrons are not rushed..

Great Location and Nice Food...

By jrc-esq |

This is a hotel restaurant on a lovely beach. The staff and service were professional and attentive. The food was good but not fine dining. But then again you don't come with shorts and flip flops for fine dining... you come from the beach and get treated very nicely and fed well. They start with freshly baked bread and butter, followed with nice appetizers of which we had the beet salad and brussel sprouts and then went to town on tacos and salmon. Everything was good to very good. If you don't come here for fine dining between the location, service and food here you will certainly not leave disappointed. Go and enjoy!

Very nice

By Sheila G |

Delicious food and excellent service. Sitting outside and gazing at the ocean topped off a perfect lunch. Michael was an excellent and attentive server.

Prime La Jolla sunset location.

By Susan M |

Prime beach sunset location in La Jolla. I used to take my out of town visitors here for the view but had told them the menu isn’t great. However, yesterday I came for a cocktail and to watch the sunset. I was pleasantly surprised to see a new menu! David at the bar, who made my great cocktail, told me they have a new chef who upgraded the menu. So, I decided to stay for dinner. I was in the mood for a burger, and ordered the all-American burger. It was excellent! And so were the skinny fries. My burger was cooked perfectly, rare, just as I had ordered. I will be going back to try the steak and seafood items on the new menu that David recommended. I am so happy to see the upgraded menu, it was long overdue. I will definitely be back to try more of the entrees. I am really looking forward to enjoying more sunsets and food at the La Jolla Shores restaurant.

good meal and service for breakfast

By abmilw |

nice breakfast spot, can eat inside or outside. Good view. Not a huge menu. Food goo quality, clean and attentive service. Good if you are in the area, not sure a destination type restaurant.

superb service, very good food

By windows_out |

the staff went out of their way to make our experience great -- we sat outside (under cover, with heating) on a stormy evening. Really superb experience. Food was very good. We enjoyed ourselves. We would like to return.

Great Cocktails and View

By LarsieB |

We stopped by The Shores Restaurant for afternoon cocktails during our stay in La Jolla. It was such a pleasant way to spend time during our vacation with lovely cocktails and watching the many people walking by this very busy stretch of beach. The cocktails were lovely, the guac and chips average, and service by our server Sammy was great - friendly, helpful and efficient! The cost of 4 cocktails and 1 serving of guac and chips was $85 before a tip.

Amazing service

By Anabella M |

Isai is a great server! Very attentive. The view and food were great as well. The busser was very kind and he was prompt in getting us everything.

Great Views, terrible food

By Barbara S |

We are locals and love to frequent local restaurants. What a disappointing meal we had at the Shores Restaurant. How can you ruin a burger? The bun was stale and cold. There was not a smear of any kind of dressing on it. The beef was not at all seasoned and topped with cold cheese, ice cold tomato and lettuce and a "more raw" than cooked slice of onion and cold pickles. No flavor at all. Everyone knows you don't refrigerate tomatoes!! The fries were marginal, no seasoning. The mussels were semi warm and I will give kudos to the broth. Lots of ill mannered children running around which did take away from the sunset ambience. There were clumps of hair or dust all around under our table. Large clumps. Ick! This place has never been known for its marginal at best food. What a shame to have such a gorgeous location and view and waste it.

Unfortunately Bad Experiences

By C4Life |

We had planned our beach time in San Diego the day before but the weather in late afternoon caused us to change it to early Friday afternoon. Not sure where to go or eat in La Jolla beach, we quickly researched and decided to catch a Lyft to this restaurant, which we discovered is part of hotel. I did make dining reservations before arriving so we were seated right away. We had chose to ignore the reviews about wait time hoping they were exaggerated. Unfortunately, they were not. Ok, there was a little wait to get drink orders and then for the drinks to even come. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 lunch items. After waiting 20 minutes, the waitress did apologize for wait and inform us about the chef shortage. After that, another 15 minutes approximately to get the appetizers. The steak on the asada fries appetizer was not tender and difficult to chew so couldn’t eat the meat and main reason the dish was probably so expensive. The coating on the fish and shrimp tacos was not seasoned well but the veggies served on them helped some with the flavors. We also did not care for the beans and rice which was too bland for our liking. My husband did enjoy the mussels which was one of the reasons we came here after reading about them in a review. The ocean side views was the other reason, so there was a good atmosphere INSIDE the restaurant. But the wait time, cost and overall taste of food made it not worth it. We had hoped for a better experience on the beach. After eating we decided to take a beach walk located behind the restaurant. A few feet away, there were a large amount of chairs stacked against a wall with no signs, so we took 2 chairs to sit down among the other people sitting in chairs too. Shortly afterwards, 2 young men wearing red shorts approached, informing us that the chairs were for The Shores guest only. We asked if they could be rented and they said no. The beach was very crowded on a Friday afternoon but we were the only ones approached- probably due to being the only ones around with our race and dark skin color, so yes we stood out. We had just spent a significant amount of money at The Shores restaurant and there was no signage about the chairs being their property and for their guest only. So we felt a degree of discriminated took place. So we ended our visit there. So from these experiences, The Shores left us with a very negative impression of La Jolla beach during our San Diego vacation.

Excellent

By somayehk2017 |

Very nice view of ocean, delicious breakfast, and friendly staff. I ordered Californian egg Benedict which was the best I tried so far!!!

Home from home!

David was exactly the personality and care we needed after a long day of work. Thank you for making us feel at home and appreciated!

Serving Unique Fish the Right Way

By madcheddar |

One thing that normally disappoints me about sea-side vacations is boring, tourist-trap food. The Shores was a pleasant surprise because they have a better selection and they present it with good sides and in reasonable quantity. At our table we had salmon and halibut, which aren't unusual by any standard, but we also had butterfish, which I don't find everywhere, and all three fillets were prepared in a unique way with great sides. And we didn't leave feeling hungry or stuffed; it was just right. The ocean-side view makes for a nice experience and you can take a walk down the beach afterward. With good service and great food, it's a La Jolla hotspot just outside the most tourist-laden area.

Wasted opportunity

By Vrushali J |

Beautiful location and view. Run down facilities. Really uninspired menu that tastes pathetic. Completly ruined our special day. Just with improving the food they can make this place special because the view is phenomenal. Totally wasted waterfront opportunity

Food Average and Served Cold

Ate here twice because we were in a hurry and had seen pictures that made the food look great. Well, looks can be deceiving. The food was just average, yet very expensive. Some was served cold too. We weren't impressed with the dinners or breakfasts. There are better choices in La Joya, especially if you're going to pay so much. I just wanted my money's worth.

Beautiful spot too bad it can’t keep up

Hmmmm. Used to love this place for the ambiance and service. Been coming here for years. Worst experience these days. Inconsistent service, food and beverage. Check your order and your bill.

Such an amazing experience at the bar with David! Amazing service and great drinks, very chill atmosphere to be able to enjoy the beach view

Don't linger in this restaurant.

By WorldTraveler422 |

This restaurant is in the La Jolla Shores Hotel, formerly The Sea Lodge. Beware the parking charges! $12 for 1 hour 59 minutes, and $24 for 2 hours and 1 minute! A restaurant validation will only reduce the parking charge by $5, no matter how long one has been dining or how much one has spent. This can be especially irksome when ones party arrives in multiple vehicles. The management helplessly claims they cannot do anything about this problem once it has been charged to your credit card. Very, very, very unhelpful management. When one factors the parking charges into the already high restaurant prices (also beware the expensive cocktails), this restaurant does not deserve a good rating due to the overall bad experience. In this regard, other restaurants in La Jolla are far more appealing.

Excellent

By Bc C |

Appetizers: exceptional Mexican corn worthy of a magazine cover, the tuna tostada was awesome. Lobster taco was totally fine but the appetizers set the tone in a good way. Fancy cocktails were weak with alcohol for my taste but flavorful - some may like that. Great service , very polite and available. Great view from patio

Sunset dinner at the shores

Beautiful setting and delicious food while watching a stunning sunset. Issail took the best care of us. He recommended the octopus and fish trio that were really amazing.

Excellent Hotel Restaurant- Great Staff and Great Food-Stunning View

By buzzearl |

We had to occasion to eat breakfast the The Shores Restaurant. The food was very good and fresh, the staff was excellent, and the service and price we very excellent. I have always been surprised by how good The Shores Restaurant is and this time they even exceeded my expectations. The new renovations are very nice. And one more thing: The view is the absolutely stunning with everyone having a view of the ocean.

Delicious!

By lmg28 |

Stopped in for an early dinner around 5:30pm after golfing at Torrey Pines. Easily found a nice table outside. Great view of the ocean/beach, and the food was delicious.

Just meh

By DMHad |

I had dinner here last night and although the service was excellent, the food was not at all. Baja fish tacos were ok but the beans and rice were truly awful and tasted like they were days old. My glass of wine was pretty bad as well. The location and view are hard to beat and perhaps the menu has better offerings- the burger at the table next to mine looks good.

Very enjoyable dinner on the beach

By Jim Greiner |

It has been years since eating here last. From out of town so haven't even been in the area in a long time. But was looking for a family-oriented restaurant In La Jolla and found this one via TripAdvisor. The reviews aren't recent but it seemed like an opportunity to take a chance. Are we glad that we did!! Leaving the elevator from the lower parking garage, another couple recommended the short ribs and the octopus. Octopus isn''t on my program but I did order the short ribs, as did my sonin-law, my daughter ordered the three fish meal, grandson ordered chicken tenders from the kids' menu, and granddaughter orderede a fabulous bowl of chicken noodle soup. All was well. The service was nearly instantaneous. The only thing missing was a bread or munchie starter of some kind. Eating in their dining room is the next best thing to eating on the beach, though they do serve outside when the weather permits. Highly recommend!

Couple for dinner before sunset

By rad212 |

Our food and drinks were delicious! Will was our server. He and the rest of the wait staff were fantastic!! Setting is terrific!!

Beautiful view!

By Margie H |

While attending a conference in San Diego, a group of friends decided to hop over to LaJolla for dinner. So pleased with our choice of The Shores! Lovely view of the ocean and beach! Watched the sunset from our table. Nice selection of drinks. And our food was good. Only downside was a seemingly limited menu- lots of taco options and fried seafood. We did find that they will prepare the seafood other ways like blackened or grilled. All in all a very nice evening! Would totally go again!

Restaurant at La Jolla Shores Inn

By barbarapC4814MC |

This is the place right on the beach where I've spent many pleasant Happy Hours, enjoying Magaritas, half price apps. and the sunset. DIshes like like fish tacos and quesadillas were tasty. Had lunch once years ago, Place has changed ownership, maybe more than once, over twenty-five years.

Easter at the Shores

Great food. Great service. Wonderful environment. Go there for the experience. We go for lunch and dinner as well. Have fun. .

Amazing view

By Desiree8199 |

This restaurant literally sits on La Jolla Shores beach, our dinner was delicious, we went during restaurant week but the portions were still the same as regular, we sat at the window so we could watch the sunset while we ate, service was perfect, the restaurant is beautiful there was a wedding on their patio, presentation of all their food was spectacular.

Great Views and Service!

Got happy hour food and drinks here; Isai provided great and fast service and the food was delicious! Beautiful ocean view as well!

Steps from the surf, this California casual place has surprisingly tasty fare. The view at sunset is something else.

MAGNIFICENT VIEW

By Ann K |

I met friends for a drink on sat-the view was amazing -happy hour is not on weekends but the beets humus was amazing and decent price-its like being on a boat-there was a wedding but they allowed us to sit inside the restaurant-better to sit outside but was still great

Did not live up to my expectations

By Janlett |

I pictured a modern, glass and steel building with lots of natural light, with a great view of the ocean. A friend of a friend recommended the food at the Shores and so we went sight unseen. Perhaps in the daytime this would have been a better experience but we went for dinner and while the sunset in the far distance was beautiful the tide was out and all we could see was a huge expanse of very dark beach and waves in the very far distance. The dining room was immense with no redeeming features -- like a huge auditorium -- dark decor looking out on a dark beach. The waitperson was friendly. The food was better than average. My husband and I both had fish and it was enjoyable. However the fingerling potatoes were inedible due to green skins, very bitter. The bread was freshly baked and excellent. All in all a very disappointing experience. I do not recommend the Shores for dinner. Perhaps lunch would be better.

Fabulous dining. My waitress Meagan was professional, knowledgeable of the menu and very timely with her serving.

By Discover01900044535 |

This restaurant has great ambience and fabulous beach setting with ocean view. The Bartender David was very attentive to all customers and staff. My waitress Meagan truly made my dining experience memorable. Look forward to returning there soon. Chris

Wonderful view, fun for special occasions

By SERUs |

We had a celebratory meal here and the setting was very nice. There was a bit of a scuffle between servers. One stepped in to help us get served food and drinks; another came back to assert that they were our server. But overall the food was good, the setting was very nice and the staff were helpful. Would recommend for overall setting and ambience.

Good food and location

By Amy B |

Went here for dinner with family of 4, kids each found something to eat. Food was excellent, fresh, hot and flavorful. View was ok, not an amazing patio view. Service was just ok - our server seemed more like someone you’d find working a diner counter. She threw down 4 wrapped silverware, and said I’ll be back to you in a minute. Came back and said ok did you all decide? Just not super professional and seemed very busy.

Great spot great service!

By jrdrums |

Great service by Justin and very welcoming environment. The view is amazing as well! The food and drink quality was top notch.

Terrible

By tory d |

Waited 6 minutes for bartender to acknowledge me, i was at the bar sitting 3 seats from where he and another stood trying to develop a NYE cocktail. two people at bar. finally got to order a drink. waited 10 more mints to put in food order to be told i should probably put something in kitchen was closing (32 mins). terrible customer service from the bartender - rude and no reason to have waited this long

Awesome dinner

By cargears |

We had a great dinner here. Wife had butterfish and I had the steak. Both were awesome, cooked perfectly and great flavor. Very good portions too. I will definitely go back again. Let's not forget about the view! We sat practically right on the beach. Just beautiful!

Strong Start but Rapidly Downhill After That

By DanRog06 |

So disappointing. The second star was because the appetizer round for restaurant week was incredible (poké wonton and Brussels sprouts were both perfect dishes) One of the main entrees we got was decent and the other was not...the salmon was over cooked, and I probably wouldn't have liked it at all if it didn't have a spicy mayo and sweet sesame type of sauces on it (which I have a weakness for). My wife got the short ribs, which is a super easy home run dish (especially during restaurant week when everyone is trying to keep up with the orders), however it was very chewy and dry. I've never once had dry short ribs like this before, so I don't know what they did wrong. It's arguably one of the easiest dishes to make if you want super tender meat. Oh well. Dessert is where things got really bad. Creme brûlée was disgusting - easily the worst I’ve ever had. I ended up just eating the two raspberries on top and leaving the rest. The brûlée was severely overdone, way too thick, and very burned. The creme portion was so-so but not great. My wife got the mud pie ice cream cake which tasted like cheap store-bought Ice cream on a mediocre crust with very little flavor. Our friend got the apple cobbler which clearly had been sitting for a while, since the ice cream was mostly melted. It was halfway decent and maybe would have been genuinely good if we had received it with unmelted ice cream on top. Finally, service started out phenomenally well and plummeted with the courses. We had to wait over 30 minutes from when we finished our entrees until they offered us the opportunity to order dessert. I wanted to like this place and gave it a chance despite the less-than-4-Star yelp reviews, but it was a mistake.

A great place for luch

We always have lunch here after viewing the ocean for awhile. It is reasonably priced and has a great view of the ocean. I highly recommend it.

Romantic and fun date night!

This was our second time visiting La Jolla Shores. The restaurant, like the hotel is well appointed and warm. Our server Justin was very personable! He made us some delicious cocktails while we enjoyed the outstanding view from the bar. 10/10 would come back!

Ho hum happy hour

By ohdonnaoh |

It was our last day in La Jolla and we wanted to end it with an awesome happy hour with a stunning sunset view. The reviews of the Shores led me to believe it would be so. First of all, the outside seating is not on the beach as I mistakenly understood from some reviews. It's on the beach line but set back and behind a plexiglass paneling with all kinds of columns and fencing obstructing the gorgeous view. Inside had panoramic windows but it's not the same. Also the view of the entire sunset is disrupted because there's a wharf or a wall so you don't actually see the sun going down on the Ocean. It may not be their fault but if you're going to advertise sunset views, be specific! The $7 margaritas were fine, the appetizers were below par - we had the Ahi Tuna Poke which was lacking flavor and the dumplings which were made with what seemed like a flaky pastry dough. We decided not to stay for dinner because we wanted to leave La Jolla with a good taste in our mouth. Glad we didn't.

Good food!

By Clau C |

We have been going to this place for lunch for years now as a beach tradition, and the food and service is always great. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good beachside food experience!

Chaotic

By Austin T |

I went to The Shores Restaurant last night around 6:00 PM and unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. We were seated on the patio and right away we noticed three other tables besides ours waiting without water. Our server Isai briefly introduced himself, quickly filled our water glasses and then literally ran off. The entire evening felt chaotic. Food took over 30 minutes to arrive and our server seemed completely overwhelmed, constantly sprinting around the restaurant. It honestly felt more like dining in a zoo than a restaurant. The overall experience was incredibly disappointing, and I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Lunch at the beach

By Love2Travel |

Located past area 30 on the shore, this restaurant was perfect. My husband and I stopped in for lunch. Heather was our server. I asked questions about gluten free options. She checked. There were several. I ordered the strawberry spinach salad. My husband had the burger. Maira brought them out. Both our meals were delicious. Heather was real nice too.

We ate here our first evening at the hotel. It was Tuesday and they had a special, a burger and beer for $15.95. Great deal especially after a long day of driving.

Delightful happy hour offers ambiance, attentive service, good value

By Christene M |

We have enjoyed La Jolla's Shores happy hour for more than a decade. It is a real "find" in a part of San Diego often over-priced. We head for the bar and happy hour rather than the restaurant because we can enjoy a cocktail and a couple choice appetizers and be out only $40 to $50. Our favorite wait person is Annaly, always cheerful and efficient. She knows us and has our drinks at the table in minutes, without our even ordering! Her memory and cheerful personality are delightful, part of our reason for being regulars here. Ditto, our affection for Chris, the Shores' ever cheerful server, who knows who gets the tasty fish tacos and who the spicy cajun chicken wings -- or scallops with a tangy sausage sauce, a family favorite to share. The ahi poke and sweet potato fries are also excellent -- and the drinks are $7 each for cocktails, $8 for wine. Figure $7 to $10 for the appetizers. With the days growing longer and warmer, it's a treat to be outside on the patio where you can hear the surf. The lounge is also cozy and often busy. For happy hour bargains, one must be there before 6, and the fun begins at 3 p.m. For us, a weekly treat and traditional date night. Check out whereiscookie.com for more fun tips on dining, travel and nature.

Still around and still good

By myrevue |

Seven months after a previous review, the rating stays the same. The location is still first-rate, right on a major San Diego/La Jolla beach. The food is still of good quality, though not of gourmet quality. Service is fine. The most noticeable fault with the restaurant is not of the restaurant, but of parking. Parking in this area is always difficult, but parking is available under this establishment, which is a part of the La Jolla Hotel. Ingress and egress to the underground parking are not the easiest, and individual spaces are tight. Sometimes, exit from underground is stymied by an inoperative control arm. Usually, however, the diner will have enjoyed the overall experience of dining on the beach (but inside large picture windows).

Beautiful view for lunch

Great vibes ! Beautiful view . My server Isai was lovely ! The ahi poke was perfect for a late lunch. Sunset in the dining room is a great spot to be

Good view , decent food

By Lisa K |

Good view of the beach. Good variety on menu, food is decent. Husband ordered swordfish and he said it's good not overcooked. My Jambalaya was ok. The service is really good.

Expensive Convenience

By ColoradoVisitor |

Wonderful variety of choices; delicious food; immediate seating; beautiful view; so convenient to be able to eat at the hotel staying in. Less time away from the beach! Butter Fish, Lobster/Crab/Shrimp sandwich, and Cowboy Burger were delicious. Veggie Burger good, but have had better. For breakfast, Avocado Toast was incredible. Super large portion. Fresh fruit with cottage cheese was delicious but skimpy portion for almost $16 (including labor surcharge noted below). Be prepared for expensive prices (including on alcoholic beverages). Also thought prices were high enough that a menu footnote highlighting that another 4% surcharge would be added for local labor cost impacts was a weak excuse to pump prices up even more.

Lunch

By FredN47 |

We found tis restaurant near the beach. Great views of the water. The food as very good. We had fish tacos and a cowboy hamburger. Service as attentive and spot on. Check this restaurant out while on the beach.

Tired decor, average eats

By EJS2015a |

I wanted to look out to the water for a solo dinner, and came upon this place to eat. Order the tuna poke and followed up with swordfish sandwich. the poke was set on a bed of dry brown rice, and the poke was not folded into much of any sauce except (dry) nuts, and I hate when poke is served with the tough ligaments in it - cut out those lines! The halibut was a nice and messy sandwich with fries. The prices were what I would expect for a unique taste and sight, but I was unimpressed with either.

Good food right on the beach!

This restaurant is part of the La Jolla Shores Hotel. It is right on the beach with spectacular views. Food was good and service was good. Great atmosphere.

View and service were great; mahi tacos bland

By kooikermom |

Went on a Monday evening, about 6:30. Place wasn't crowded at all, and our server, Lee, was great. Food selection options didn't really thrill me, and they were pricey. While I said this was mid-range cost, it was the upper end of that. I figured we were paying for the view, and that was fabulous...except there was no shielding our eyes from the blinding sun as it was dropping. That being said, the staff made accommodations as best possible to help us to have a view and use a post to protect us from the direct sun. Once we ordered, our mahi mahi tacos, salad and steamed veggies came out in probably less than 5 minutes. Amazingly, the tacos did not taste like they had been sitting under a heat lamp. Rather, they were properly warm and not soggy. Sadly, they were fairly bland. Salad and steamed veggies were great. Overall, we'd go again.

A View of the Beach

By dennis d |

The restaurant is located within a hotel. We had a family brunch on Sunday. Road construction made it a challenge to find the place. Food was very good, both breakfast and lunch choices. Enjoyed the crab sandwich. They advertise free parking but it's only for an hour.

Havans, David, and Ryan were absolutely the best representatives of La Jolla shores ever! They were kind, professional, and accommodating!! Best service ever!!

Gorgeous view and good food

By Joan P |

We are staying at the La Jolla Shores hotel and ate here on our first night as we were tired from our journey and did not want to venture out. We were with our son and his five year old daughter. The dining room looks out over La Jolla Shores beach and we were entertained watching the Kayakers coming in through the waves, many of them spilling as they neared the waves on the shore. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to dining with a young child, including bringing her meal before ours as soon as it was ready. I had the butter fish which was expertly done - very light. Others had jambalaya, pasta and a crab salad sandwich. The meals were very good. Overall a great family restaurant.

Perhaps It Was The Wrong Day/Time To Go Here

By J K |

We invited friends of ours who live in Oceanside to dinner at the Shores Restaurant in mid-December -- selecting it based on its proximity to where we were staying in La Jolla as well as on other Trip Advisor reviews. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. When we arrived on a Thursday evening around 6 PM, we found that there were only several other tables occupied making the restaurant seem deserted. The menu was relatively limited in the selection offered. We found the items that we chose to be OK, but not particularly memorable. One plus was that the wait-staff was friendly, attentive and efficient. Conversely, something we didn't like was having to pay for our parking in an almost empty garage underneath It -- $12.00. When we asked if a credit/validation would be given to us on our bill for parking, we were told that one would for $5.00. However, we discovered after leaving (our error not to check while there) that we received no such credit -- and, by then, it was too late to do anything about it. Would we go back to this restaurant -- no.

Great service and delicious meal

Amazing Restaurant!!

By Hailey Z |

Our server was Isai, and he was awesome! The service was impeccable, food came fast, drinks came quick- we had a lovely time. The restaurant is right on the ocean, and the food was great! Definitely recommend :) I had the Golden Hour Latte, and hands down it was the best coffee I have ever tasted, do me a favor and order this for yourself!

The location is better than the food

By ScottRoby |

Sometimes you ask yourself, would you have gone here if it weren't for its great location right off the beach? I think in my case the answer is "maybe". The location was terrific and definitely a highlight. The food was just okay. Not bad, not incredible. The service was decent. We had a nice table where we could see the "shores" of the beach and that was quite nice.

Bartender of the year goes to...

By Nancy |

This spot is such a gem. The view from the bar and restaurant are spectacular. I stopped in to take a break from the sun and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too busy at the bar. David immediately greeted me and gave me water while I looked over the menu. I had a delicious Shores margarita and food from the buffet. The margarita was the Prickly Pear I think and it was refreshing with just the right amount of heat. It didn't take long for the bar to fill up, and David was on it...taking care of people walking up to get drinks, a full bar, and orchestrating all the servers and other staff asking him questions, and giving him their drink orders. He remained calm and kept everything running smoothly. He never let his smile fade. He was very professional and friendly with everyone he interacted with. Thank you David for making this a great experience.

Excellent spot for lunch

By Angela T |

This is a review just for the restaurant on site: On our way to the airport we were looking for a restaurant with ocean views for a quick lunch as our San Diego business trip was coming to an end. We stopped here for lunch and had an excellent view of the ocean out on the patio. I didn't want to leave! I had the LSC (I think that is what it was called) - it was made with lobster, crab and shrimp as a sandwich and it reminded me of a lobster roll that you'd get on the East coast. The service was excellent and the grounds were gorgeous. Although we did not stay at the hotel, I could see myself staying here with my family in the future as it is right on the beach and walking distance to a lot of shops and other restaurants.

Great sunset....

By Margaret C |

I hadn’t been to this restaurant in a couple years. Good food, great view. Prices as expected in a La Jolla Restaurant. Though our waiter was wonderful, I don’t think they had enough help. The thing that was always a major plus for this restaurant was the free underground parking. Policy change: you are validated for the first 1 1/2 hour which saves you $20. After that you owe. Parking maxes out at $38.

Gone downhill

By Kcaiafa |

This restaurant has gone downhill. Customer service is terrible as well as the food. Our waitress was nice but the service was slow and the rest of the staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. I accidentally left my parking ticket on our table so I could get it validated. Upon returning to retrieve it had been thrown away but was advised to see the front desk of the hotel for a complimentary ticket. The man at the front desk refused to even give me a discount on the parking ticket and charged me $12. He was very condescending and insincere. The manager wouldn't help either! Anyway, bad service from the restaurant and hotel. After being customers for years our party will not be returning.

Great customer service and ambience.

By Wander36822217702 |

David is always amazing with his customer service. He always accommodates me when I come in and goes above and beyond! Will always come here for a quick bite and drink at the bar. Olivia, the hostess is also accommodating and helpful.

The Shores - a good restaurant with awesome ocean views

By Larryrutkowski |

The Shores is a good restaurant with awesome ocean views. We were celebrating a couple’s birthday and wanted to go somewhere special. We enjoyed choosing The Shores. It is directly on the La Jolla Shores Beach. All of the food was very good - from the Brussel Spouts w Blue Cheese to the Mahi-Mahi. But our favorites were the desserts. Enjoy.

Located at La Shores Resort.

By nicolediane |

I don't think you could get any closer to the water without being in it. Right on the ocean with lots of windows. At breakfast high tide is in and wow the water is right there. We had an excellent server. food was very good. Enjoyed the French toast. Nice size coffee cups and we never had to ask for more. Even saw some dolphins going by. Husband had eggs and bacon and said he didn't want the hash browns. They brought fruit instead which was nice.

The Shores Restaurant is a perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner any day of the week- I feel like it is a well kept secret - you can just walk into the bar , get a table and have a Lobster, Crab and Shrimp sandwich - and a great cocktail - with a VIEW of the ocean - For dinner - easy parking and also, downstairs parking with validation with meal - I have never had a bad meal here and again - the view is breathtaking -

QUICKIE REVIEW If it is restaurant week, see if it is your taste. FOOD This is what I tried: -Ginger chicken pot stickers -ahi tuna wontons -Chef Percy’s Jambalaya -Angus short rib -Macadamia crème brulee -cookies & cream cheesecakes -Chocolate bombe I tried a lot of food here as I went with a good size group. There butter that they give you for the rolls, yes. It was not cold and hard, which was appreciated. Appetizer, ginger chicken pot stickers were a good way to start things off. For entrées, angus short rib is worth honorable mention as it fell apart due to it being so soft and good. The jambalaya did leave a little to be desired; however, I am a big fan of seasoning and things have a pronounced flavor. Desserts, any of the three will do depending on what your taste is that night. PARKING No but there was street parking available. SERVICE It was ok. We came to dinner early so the restaurant was still quiet, which was nice. PRICE San Diego’s restaurant week has fixed prices (usually $30) that includes appetizer, entrée, and dessert. That would be the only time I could recommend coming here to try something. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS This post is a little late as I went two restaurant weeks ago. Nevertheless, I did want to post it. This restaurant is connected to a hotel that looked like a great place to stay as you are right at the beach.
