Saturday Brunch

By AuntKarrie |

Love this little gem...! The food is housemade, delicious and there is something for everyone. The ambiance is very funky, music is great and next time I am going to try the fried apple fritters😋

Vegan AND meat options!

By Zemma |

Fabulous mid-century decor, lots of creative food options for all dietary needs & super friendly staff. Our waitress was very nice although a little forgetful. Wonderful happy hour w/ lots of options. We had a party of 6 & 3 of us got the vegan gluten free lasagna (after happy hour) delicious! Great reasonable pricing. Main meals took over 30 minutes but I'd rather have slow healthy from scratch food then quick service any day! Can't wait to go back.

Excellent Holiday Party!

By Ronna R |

I am so glad I stumbled across this place in my quest for a nice holiday party for our lab staff. The owner/chef was so helpful and friendly on the phone I was upbeat and excited from the start. When the day came the space was lovely, the food excellent and the staff very nice and helpful. I would gladly recommend this place to others and happily return for another event!

WONDERFUL MEAL

By Dalton H |

Both the waitress and the chef were extremely kind and the food was out of this world! Can not stress enough how nice of an experience we had here. If you want great homemade food and great service, this is your place.

The Jade Lounge at Slide Inn

By Laura C |

We booked the Jade Lounge for my Son's Engagement party and the food and service was great, it is a laid back venue which was perfect for this event and my Son was very pleased. Definitely recommend this place.

Best little gem!!

By Terri T |

We hosted my son & daughter in-laws rehearsal dinner at the Slide Inn. The owner was a 1 man show that evening. Without skipping a beat, he served drinks, dinner, dessert and cleaned up smiling and entertaining the entire time!! The Slide Inn was the perfect setting for our event. Plenty of seating for our 63 guests and ample room for our guests to get acquainted with each other! Pricing was extremely reasonable! Food was fantastic!

High School Reunion

By WildErised |

I wish I could review this place and its owner 1000 more times! We just hosted our 10 year high school reunion here and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I don't even know where to start. The venue. We rented out The Slide Inn as well as the attached Jade Lounge and let me tell you- we hardly needed to decorate; it's already so wonderfully Portland chic. All we felt the need to do was add some classy balloons with our school initials/grad year and some with our school colors. There was enough room for us to add a photo booth in the venue- which is always a crowd pleaser- without compromising our guest list. Eugene (the owner) was so wonderful and so willing to work with us to make the night a success. The entire night went off without a hitch. Those of us on the committee never felt the need to monitor the event or stress out over things not going well. Eugene had everything handled and we were able to enjoy all our hard work without a care. There is absolutely NOTHING I would change about our experience with Eugene! The experience of planning a reunion however? Let's just say once was more than enough! 10/10 definitely would recommend this place as a venue space. On a side note; our planning committee also met up at The Slide Inn for brunch for one of our meetings to test out the food. Did not disappoint.

Excellent Service, Food, Atmosphere - Everything!

By Mike G |

I rented out the Jade Lounge space for my wife's 40th birthday, and everyone in attendance had a fantastic time. I can't say enough about how easy it was to schedule and coordinate; Eugene and his staff were very accommodating, and the food was fantastic. All of the guests were really impressed, and I would expect that a few of them might schedule their own parties there in the near future. Thanks for a great time! PS - Their Manhattan with house cherries is a thing of wonder. Highly recommended.

Excellent

By Redbird48 |

My partner and I chose the Jade Lounge at the Slide Inn for our small wedding celebration. We planned it months in advance since we live on the other side of the country. We decided to marry in Portland because of friends who live in the area and because we are thinking of moving here. We had trouble locating a venue for a small event (less than 20 people) but The Slide Inn responded promptly and positively to our inquiry. From the beginning, Eugene, the chef and owner, was excellent. He responded to e-mails promtly and did his best to make our special occasion as stress-free as possible. The food was terrific (with both vegetarian and non-veg selections) and our bartender was wonderful. All of our guest complimented both the food and the Jade Lounge. It is very comfortable and unique and pefect for smaller events. I would highly recommend it and would not hesitate to call The Slide Inn again for future events.

Wonderful Holiday Party!

By Ashley R |

This was the 2nd year in a row that we held our annual Holiday Party at Slide Inn and it was a night to remember! Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic Place

By William B |

Just one block off of East Burnside, incredible food! I always cry because I can order only one delicious meal off the menu rather than all of them at once. (I eat there almost every week.) Nice beers and ales too. Lots of vegan choices and lots of omnivore choices as well. Come with friends and you can each order something different and share! That way you won't have to cry.

Great history, great food, great wine

By Melissa S |

My friends took me here for my last birthday. Authentic German food. Spaetzle! Great wine recommendation. Authentic Italian! The owner shared his story of the place and it is very interesting. Yes. It has been used in the TV show Grimm. But it is a great place to eat with friends, as a romantic dinner, or alone.

Right Down the Street

By SassyGirlJenna729 |

I have eaten at Slide Inn a number of times, and their food is delicious. I also love the décor. Very European inspired and modern at the same time. Hues of orange and grey, and many natural items, such as wood and fur décor. They have many gluten-free items on the menu, which is really nice for those of us with wheat issues. Late last month I wanted to try Happy Hour. I walked the few blocks with my brother, and found to my dismay Slide Inn was busy with a private event; however, you could order off the menu at the Jade Lounge, right next door. I already wrote one review about the Kale chips, but they were so good, especially since I don't even really love Kale. Definitely something to try. Brunch is great, you can order gluten-free eggs benedict, scrambles, omelettes and gluten-free pancakes. And, they have a steady flow of traffic, but nothing like some of the other Portland breakfast spots. Oh, and one other thing. Grimm did some filming here too, pretty cool. Check it out. It's about a block and a half over from Screen Door, with none of the wait.

50th BDay Bash -- incredible event space / food / host

By bourbonmaven |

I reserved The Slide Inn for my 50th birthday. We had over 60 guests and the space was just perfect. Everyone was able to mingle and sit to eat, etc. Eugene was so accommodating and responsive to my group's needs. We were able to bring in projector for a video presentation, our own playlist, and even some special barrel-aged cocktails. Everyone had a blast and the food was terrific (even though I didn't get to eat at my own party). But guests loved the chicken wings, sliders, yam fries. Everyone left satisfied and happy. I planned this event from Oakland so it was imperative to have such a responsive and flexible host. I would absolutely plan another event with Eugene and The Slide Inn and look forward to going there for just regular old brunch. Thanks again

Excellent, run by the Il Piatto people

By 23buglight23 |

We love eating at this restaurant. Fantastic ambience and amazing Spaetzle and Schnitzel. Really authentic food and not as overpriced or oversalted as other German restaurants in Portland (yes, Gruener and Gustav's, I mean you). If you loved Il Piatto, you'll love this place. Same location, same owners, and thank goodness they kept the carbonara on the menu. Thumbs up!

Birthday Party

By Toby C |

I searched the alphabet through Portland looking for the PERFECT venue for my Husbands surprise birthday party. I looked at everything from ballrooms to food carts until I found "The Slide Inn." The venue was fresh, clean and pretty. The owners offered expert advice. The food was excellent and our guests had a great time, all of them asking how I found this place? The staff was AMAZING and served up as much fun as they did food, wine, beer and cocktails. They took very good care of us.

Off Night?

By Bruce W |

Reading other reviews, we may have just caught them on an off night..but they were way off. The service was awful (more than 10 minute difference between when first entree came out and the last person was served). Had to ask for salt 3 times (none on table). Food was bad. Calamari bland. Medium rare burger was cooked medium well. Medium burger was medium rare (and still dry..go figure).

Rehearsal Dinner

By therese j |

The food was amazing . The selection was incredible . They were flexible in meeting my dietary requirements : dairy and glutenfree . The ingredients were fresh and the employees were not only competent but went overboard insuring that everything was perfect and we had what we wanted .

The Food was amazing!!

By Anne C |

We called in an order to pick up and the gentleman asked me to text the order to him, which I did and it was ready in a quick 20 minutes. The pick up was easy and fast. The food was exceptional and we were glad to find some gluten free options. This was our first time visiting Portland, but we will definitely eat at The Slide Inn when we visit again.

Linguini Carbonara O My!

By Habiba A |

The Slide Inn is a warm, open and inviting place. It even has two couches and overstuffed chairs in case you want to lounge and eat. Grrrreat wine selection, wonderful cocktails and beers on tap. The price range is $5 and up. I love the Carbonara, the burgers and fries are juicy and the salad rolls are fresh and satisfying if you want a light meal. Absolutely great happy hour menu. I love this place and the owners are hard working warm people and the rest of the staff is fabulous. I it has wonderful gluten free and vegan choices. Eugene makes his own bread sausage and ice cream! Do Slide Inn and you will be warmly welcomed.

Wonderful staff, but not up to a big party, sorry.

By BobandDenise1979 |

At a private party I attended, the bar service was top notch. It was to be expected that we would have to wait it line in such a small place with a full house all wanting drinks. I have no complaints about the bar drinks or the service or the pleasant manners of the staff, which seemed to be just two people! My problem was with the food. Just not good. The grilled vegetables were burnt and bland at the same time. Best thing was the sliders which is hard to mess up. Hire a better chef next time.

Warm, Friendly Place with Great Food

By Trek263369 |

I started a monthly travel event for my company at this restaurant and it quickly became a home away from home that all the attendees came to truly love. Eugene Bingham, the proprietor is easy to work with and the food is very good and well priced. If you're looking for a fun place to hold an event and want a fun Portland vibe, the Slide Inn will work wonderfully for you!

Perfectly Charming!

By Explore625304 |

We hosted an event at the Slide Inn and we could not have been more pleased with the location and service. Eugene, the owner, was attentive and very kind. The space was perfect for our party (about 30 people) and provided the perfect atmosphere. The food was excellent and we look forward to coming back!

Great location for an event!

By movian |

We used Slide Inn to host an event for my sister. We had 28 people attend. Eugene closed down the restaurant for the event and set-up a buffet brunch. A no-host bar was also available. I had never heard of the Slide Inn before. I found the Slide Inn through a website where you put in your event information and potential companies contact you. Eugene contacted me almost immediately via email. Working with him throughout this process has been so easy - he is so quick and prompt in replying to emails. The decor in the Slide Inn is really interesting. There are large windows that allow a lot of natural light. There are lots of "funky" clocks on one wall. There was beautiful and unique artwork throughout the restaurant. There are several sitting areas with comfy couches and a small bar. There was plenty of room for the food and for everyone to eat and mingle. It is very well decorated and has a great "look." I think I had at least half a dozen guests ask me how I found this restaurant as they thought it was such an interesting place. The food was fantastic! We had sausage scramble, egg and kale scramble, Austrian pancakes and hash browns. He also made cupcakes - that were delicious! Everyone loved the food - it was incredibly tasty. We had leftovers and many guests took some home because they enjoyed it so much. Eugene was very reasonable around the prices for our event. There was no room charge as we ordered food. He was transparent and a straight shooter around the pricing/contract/logistics. We have had some wacky weather in Portland lately and he was open to rescheduling if the weather was bad. I would definitely recommend the Slide inn for small events. I would also recommend it for dining - we love the food. We definitely will be back for dining and will consider this for events in the future.

Brunch with a German Flair

By Camille F |

The Slide Inn makes a fantastic alternative to the more trendy, crowded brunch spots in Portland. Standard brunch classics run alongside German specialties that are sure to delight. And might I highly recommend the Pflaumenschmarrn. The name is daunting, but the caramelized pancake dish is delectable. The midcentury modern decor may be perceived as trying too hard, but come on, it's Portland. Come try something new - you'll find yourself coming back for more.

Great space for an event

By Dluisvoz |

My co-workers and I set up our holiday party with Eugene at the Jade Lounge, and everything went off without a hitch. The food was solid, the service was friendly and prompt, and the space was perfect for our 35 person clan of rowdy special-ed teachers and mental health workers. A good time was had by all. I will definitely be coming back here.

Company Holiday Party

By Murtaza D |

We held our holiday event for 50-75 people at the Slide Inn. The drinks were flowing, the food was good, and the space was ideal for our needs. Both Matthew and Eugene did a great job of taking care of us. We would definately consider an event there again in the future.

Awesome Gem for an Event

By John T |

We had our wedding dinner at The Jade Inn and let me tell you, this place is great for group dinners! We had about 30 guests and everybody had plenty of room to hangout before and after dinner. We had the place all to ourselves with Eugene doing the cooking and Matthew taking care of service. Dinner was fantastic, nobody left hungry or unsatisfied. We highly recommend trying your next event with Eugene and his crew! They will work to make you special event that much more special! Thanks Eugene and Matthew!!

Bad food and bad service

By Steveatola |

All the other restaurants in the area had 2 hr wait for dinner but we found this place was empty. This should have clued us in. 6 of us ordered dinner meals and 2 of them were not edible. When the server/owner/cook was told of our dissatisfaction all he said was “oh”. We couldn’t finish our meal and no one was very pleased with the service or the food.

Excellent Place to Host a Group, Meeting, or Event!

By Christina B |

I was looking for a place to put on an entertainment event that I expected to be quite well-attended, when I came across the website for the Slide Inn. The Owner, Eugene, and his friendly staff worked with me every step of the way to ensure that the event was a success. As an event organizer, it is important to select venues with good reputations within the community, a high level of customer service, and a great selection of tasty food. The Slide Inn embodied all of those qualities. In the weeks leading up to the event, I talked to many people in the Slide Inn's surrounding neighborhoods to invite them to the show/Meetup, and over and over I heard positive feedback about the establishment. Eugene was extremely helpful in getting the word out on, and boosting attendance at, the public event as well. The night of the show was wonderful. Eugene and his staff were organized, thoughtful, accommodating, and friendly. The service was fast and attentive, even with the audience for the show arriving all at once for seating. The seating layout of the restaurant was ideal for groups, couples, and single audience members alike, which was a huge plus. The food was great. It tasted delicious, smelled wonderful, and was presented beautifully. It was amazing as an event producer to not have to worry about attendees feeling alienated by The Slide Inn's menu. There was something for everyone at the Slide Inn, even those with strict dietary restrictions, and the wait staff was knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients in the selections. In closing, I would highly recommend The Slide Inn as a location for events, Meetups, business meetings, celebrations, etc. Not only are they friendly, organized, and efficient, they will make planning your next get together, meeting, or event a LOT less stressful.

Excellent Food and Location

By David N |

If you're looking for a spot off the tourist path with character and fresh, locally sourced gourmet food, the Slide Inn definitely delivers.

Home-cooked weekend brunch

By Bruce M |

We'd hoped to have Saturday brunch nearby, but found ourselves with a terribly long wait time, so we looked for nearby alternatives and came across the Slide Inn. We'd definitely visit again! It was a low-key atmosphere, very inviting, very relaxed, and there was a varied brunch menu with a full bar and the option of outdoor seating. I don't know how many people work here (we saw just the one, whom I assume was the owner), but our food tasted home-cooked in the best way and service was laid back and accurate. The Bloody Mary could have been a little less bloody and a little more Mary, but on the whole, for an affordable brunch in authentic Portland surroundings, this did the job!

"A wonderful place to enjoy & savor the food"

By ChowHound12035 |

Lovely and unique restaurant. The decor is 60s retro with a sly wink to a den & Germany. The prices are very fair and the wine list is very reasonable. The craft cocktails are delicious and I especially one that was lavendar infused. We shared the spaetzle appetizer and it was delicous with the bacon! Osso bucco and stuffed chicken were first rate. The housemade cherry ice cream is super and refreshing. The service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend going here and enjoying the neighborhood birthplace of the Portland foodie scene.

A mouth orgasm with every bite

By JMNR |

So many choices, each one interesting, fresh and delicious. Went with a group, each of us ordered a different dish and shared them - it was a great way to sample the menu. Will definitely be back.

Nice homemade food

By Sofie L |

We had brunch at Slide inn. Nice cozy German inspired restaurant, very nice and service minded staff.

Great Food! Great Host1

By Portland2002_12 |

We have been here for a great dinner several times. We were in need of a venue for after a celebration ceremony. It didn't take us long to contract with Eugene, who delivered on everything we asked.

Excellent Brunch

By Art G |

Had an excellent omelet (fresh red. peppers and turkey sausage), fried potato and toast at this lovely restaurant. The area surrounding the restaurant is also well worth exploring, with plenty of shops, murals, character and some amazing houses. Reasonably priced and delicious. Well worth a stop in!

Great Wedding Rehearsal Dinner!

By Vernitaclark A |

After research calls and emails to several restaurants, I chose The Slide Inn. The owner Eugene and staff were professional, knowledgeable and kind. They quickly responded to any questions – important as I live out of state. There was a nice variety of options for my budget, and the contract was free of “add-on” charges. Service before the sale
When our party of 50 arrived (parking was a bit of a challenge), the staff was ready and waiting. Great, warm ambience and clean, quirky-cute dĂ©cor. They were present, helpful and considerate; allowing us time to chat and be seated before food service began. The dinner was absolutely amazing!! Organic salad was fresh and delicious. We had four entrĂ©e choices: prosciutto-wrapped chicken, grilled steak, fish of the day, and pork wiener schnitzel. Each dish was excellently prepared and presented – guests loved the special touches. A couple of special requests proved no problem. Somebody rocked it out in that kitchen!! The dessert was apple strudel with house-made vanilla ice cream. A wonderful end to a fabulous meal. Great service from all the staff
Everything promised in the contract was delivered and we settled with no surprises. Service after the sale
We came to Portland from all over the country to celebrate a very special occasion. The Slide Inn proved to be a great place to celebrate. Thank you all - more than words can say!!

First time, but not our last!

By Sarah G |

We came in from a friends recommendation, I had been to Germany once, some years ago and missed the food. The house made sausages were amazing, and the waiter said they even made the Kraut in house. They had a large selection of local and German beer. Next time I'm coming in for Happy Hour, the menu looks awesome.

Dinner date

By Kelsie B |

On vacation from Florida, and my boyfriend and I decided to stop by slide in, since they had vegan options (I am milk intolerant, so I lean towards vegan restaurant options). We were not disappointed!! Eugene was amazing and even adjusted a recipe so I could have white sauce on my pasta and not get sick. The food was amazing, and so was the service. We couldn't have been happier with our choice for dinner!

Why wait in line at Screen Door when great food is a block away?

By yuppieskum |

Came for dinner w/ my partner on a Monday evening, when it's happy hour all night. We ate off the happy hour menu, ordering four different items, all of which were tasty and well-presented. I'm vegan, and she's not, but there were a pleasantly array of vegan choices on the menu. The decor is unique- retro ski lodge w/ exposed wood and a collection of 1970s-era clocks on the wall. It's unlike anything else I've seen in Portland and very well thought out. I would highly recommend The Slide Inn if you're looking for something unique. If it's a quiet evening, the owner may even spend some time telling you the story of the restaurant.

Great hidden gem to host intimate events at an affordable price!

By H. Forrette |

The Jade Room will be the best deal you can find in town for event space and food! Owner Eugene is a joy to work with and is incredibly helpful and accommodating! We were limited by a very small budget and were looking to rent a space that allowed outside food to keep costs down. However, Eugene was willing to work with us and provided vegetarian and meat scrambles, potato rosti, cinnamon chocolate french toast with homemade syrups, coffee and tea, plus gratuity within our budget! Not only that, he allowed us to go early to decorate, stay late to socialize and take down the party decorations, and cooked up an individual scramble during the event for a gluten-free guest at no extra cost! I can't say enough nice things about Eugene! As for the venue, it's not fancy, but accommodated nearly 30 baby shower guests in an intimate setting. The space has the feeling of someone's living room, but without all the prepping and clean up. With a few simple decorative touches (tablecloths, candle centerpieces, balloons), the place looked very nice for an informal baby shower. I've included a few pictures for your reference. I would definitely consider hosting another event at the Jade Room!

Excellent food, home made and fresh ingredients.

By Otazman-Ron |

Excellent food, fresh ingredients and most of it made in house. Try the pork schnitzel, Hungarian sausage or even the portobello mushroom white wine linguini. Desert not that good and why it is 4 star review. Go to Salt and Straw for desert.

For Dinner, or an Event: Great!

By Amy W |

The Slide Inn was a wonderful little gem to find when I was searching for somewhere to have my grandmother's celebration of life in August. Eugene Bingham-owner, chef, server -is a sometimes one-man band, and you would never notice! He's friendly, was helpful with finding alternatives to his usual catering menu, and went out of his way to help me negotiate the best price for our families. His food is wonderful- I had his pumpkin tomato gnocchi, and it was delicious! Everyone at the party was very happy with his food, and his house made ginger ale and cold teas were so tasty and refreshing!! The restaurant itself is very vintage/retro and perfect for our event. My grandmother would have loved the décor- some of it looked like it came from photos of her house in the mid-century era! We went a week ahead to check it out for a regular dinner, and the prices are very reasonable for the amazing food you get, around $15 for a large entree- most of our party had to take leftovers home. I highly encourage anyone to check this place out!!

Taste the Passion!

By Dianna430M |

E P I C - this is a one man show and *show he does! The food served here is German comfort food at its finest. Mr. Wonderful had the Austrian pancake with plum sauce, he enjoyed it, (and I enjoyed the few bites that I swiped from his plate). I had the potato pancakes which were cooked to perfection and they were served with homemade applesauce - which was a memory triggering delight! You can taste the passion in this food! The interior is eclectic and cozy. I liken it to stepping back in time for a trip from the 50s through the 70s. It’s quite charming! We are planning a return trip to Sellwood based around this restaurant. I must try the dinner offerings. Danke!

One of the best restaurants in PDX

By Kristian S |

The food, the atmosphere and the service are all divine at The Slide Inn. It's cozy, romantic and the perfect little getaway for anyone. The food is very healthy and allergen friendly while also extremely delicious. I totally recommend the yam fries and kale chips! xo

Baby Shower

By Eva H |

I love The Slide Inn and Eugene the owner! He was able to accomodate me and my gaggle of girlfriends for my baby shower. The food was amazing, Gene was so accommodating, and I just love the look/decor of the place - mid century modern. Gene was so warm and welcoming - and is one helluva cook!

Apple Fritters were tasty

By Syreeta A |

Apple Fritters were tasty and they make all there syrups, they have coffee syrup and salted caramel, and lavender. Pretty decent meal

Our favorite Portland brunch...

By PortlandJeanette |

We chanced upon Slide Inn one block south of Burnside, deterred by long waits at Burnside eateries and immediately recognized it as the former Il Piatto. What a stellar menu...something for everyone: omnivore, vegetarian, gluten free or vegan! The Austrian pancakes are out of this world...I chose savory with bacon and parsley in a fluffy egg pancake. So many exciting choices, everyone can choose a different dish and share. Beautiful atmosphere for romantic dining or family dining...a space for all. The Happy Hour menu looks to be one of the best in Portland. The name of the restaurant is carried over from the ski lodge the chef-owner's family owned in Northern California. I asked him about the name because it sounded more like a tavern name than the very fine restaurant this one is!!!!

Classic Portland is still preserved in this neighborhood gem.

By K K |

Just enjoyed our 35th wedding anniversary with a wonderful meal and warm, personalized service by the owner/chef. We used to eat at this place when it was Il Piatto, many years ago, but had moved away and didn't realize it had been rebranded. Now it serves German-inspired dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Everything down to the onion rings is a work of art and an act of love. Such a lovely thing to rediscover a little bit of what made Portland's restaurants lovable, before the gimmickry and then the broken glass and closed signs. A little oasis of culinary excellence. Will definitely eat there again.

Great place with plenty of vegan and gluten free options

By Lidia L |

Eugen, the owner of the restaurant was a great host and made our experience here wonderful. The food was delicious and home made. I will definitely come back here and recommend this restaurant for any one looking for a place with tasty gluten free and vegan options

Fairly good Germanic food

By Razorfish |

While visiting our daughter last fall she took my wife and me to the Slide Inn. Their menu contains mainly Germanic food. We had just taken a Danube River cruise a few months before our trip to Portland, so we were accustomed to Germanic food. I had the Weiner Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and vegetable. It was good, but compared to the food on our cruise it did not completely measure up to those standards. I was surprised that we were the only ones in the restaurant except for one other table. Still, it was a neat atmosphere and the waiter was very friendly.

Just slide on in.....................

By Karolpdx |

Been there twice so far. I am gluten and dairy free. This place has everything including excellent service. Please visit and bring your dear ones for a wonderful and unique treat. Can't wait to go again. Has outdoor seating.

Charming retro restaurant

By OregonDuck09 |

We have been there 3 times and each time was outstanding. On our last visit the owner himself waited on us. He was very attentive and not pesty. The décor puts you back to the 70's. Very relaxing. On street parking was not a problem. Would highly recommend.

Couldn't have been more pleased

By Dan Y |

We reserved the Slide for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner and it was pleasure from beginning to end. Eugene worked patiently with us as we custom designed a menu for our group. The food and service were excellent. We couldn't have been more pleased. All of our guests were talking about it for days.

German American

By Swissabroad |

This restaurant is very willing to accommodate larger groups. Our group of 10 to 15 meets here regularly to talk. The atmosphere is pleasant., staff is friendly and you will not be rushed. The food is mediocre, the Spaetzle are clumps of dough and the dough for the strudel is thick and tough. When it gets busy the service can be slow but the beer selection is good.

Great Venue

By BallsR |

We recently hosted our company holiday party at the Slide Inn. The owner Eugene was very accomodating in the planning of this event. He was also personally at the event making sure all of our needs were met. The venue has a cool vibe and so much better than a boring room at a hotel. We had about 45 people and used the whole resturant. Great seating areas with couches and tables. This is a great place to hold an intimate event and Eugene is wonderful to work with!

B-DAY PARTY

By Tennis011 |

We had amazing experience. We loved the coziness of the restaurant, service, food! Owner is awesome, flexible. if you want to have delicious food, any kind of party this is the best place in Portland to go!

Good food, good vibes

By MARSHA S |

Really Good homemade food. Traditional as well as gluten free I will be back for breakfast as well as dinner. Inside as well as outside seating

Average food but nice ambiance

By BarefootBuddies |

The slide inn is simply The old il Piato redone. I had the mushroom pasta which was good. Delicious salad. Only one server for the whole place who also happened to be the owner. A bit slow.

Nice warm place

By Francis L |

Good food, good wine, nice place! The owner is friendly and welcoming! We had a delicious dinner with german influence.

Small Brainstorming Session

By Nikole H |

I rented the main room of The Slide Inn for a small work brainstorming session (5ppl). It was very cost effective and Eugene was very accommodating. The eclectic space was just what we needed. The group was happy with the selection and enjoyed the food as well.

Yummmmm !

By Janet N |

While a brunch spot only a block away was overcrowded, we got right in without a reservation. Nice atmosphere, soothing music, friendly owner/chef. I had the smoked salmon hash and it was wonderful. A delicious mix of chunks of fried potato, smoked salmon, tomato, capers and strips of red pepper topped with a poached egg, cantaloupe slices on the side. Reasonable prices. I'll be back. I was here for happy hour a month or so ago, and the happy hour food was also good.

Great Holiday Party

By Will S |

We had our Holiday Party at The Slide Inn last week and we had a great time. The food was terrific, make sure you try the Saffron-Clam Risotto. The staff were very accomodating and extremely nice to our group. This is perfect for a party of 60 - 70 or so, any more than that and it would be too tight. We'll definitely be considering them in the future, not just for an event but for a night out also.

Amazing vegan food and drinks

By illini2000_LA |

A friend of ours organized a vegan food crawl during a conference we were attending and this was our first stop. The owner was amazing and brought us out the best food. The gnocchi is gluten free, too. I don't even like kale chips and his were amazing. The atmosphere is also fun. Many of us were sitting on old church pews. The drink menu is fun and I highly suggest the tinder me. If you're in Portland, definitely eat here.

Quiet and unassuming, but a very good German-American place

By Stew M |

Based on some good reviews, I made reservations for 6 on a Saturday night. The bartender was also our server as the place was not crowded at all. We ordered a keller bier and a cocktail which worked great as we ran into happy hour that is until 6:30. We had the sausage, the keller bier was excellent, but shortlived as the tap blew at a half of a beer. The drinks have names like bangin Ginger and Hansel gets screwed. There are also Grimm themed names as episodes of the TV show Grimm were filmed here. We ordered Sausage, kale chips-better than it sounds, and some beef sliders. All the food was very flavorful and fresh. I liked this place quite a bit and will come back soon.

best GF breakfast to date

By rachael s |

I live in SW but a friend told about the new Slide Inn and insisted I should go. I have a mainly GF diet like many oregonians so i was THRILLED when I saw such a diverse and interesting menu. Ordered many dishes (everyone licked their plates clean) between our table but was in love especially with the pancakes we had. They were cut into small pieces and kind of carmelized- it is a must try!!!!! will be back. loved it!

Family gathering / Celebration event

By erikdkire |

The Slide Inn was perfect for our event with about 45 people. The space works very well for hanging out, buffet of food, even audio/visual was easy. The benches in middle were great and later on the space worked great as dance floor. The food prices were reasonable and Eugene was easy to work with and responsive. Matthew the bartender/server was very engaging with guests and he put the icing on the cake in terms of service. Everyone had a great time and the place is VERY photogenic.

Great place for an event!

By Robin H |

I had my mother's Celebration of Life get-together at The Slide Inn and had a very nice event with 55 people attending. The venue was perfect and the owner, Eugene, was so terrific to work with and so easy-going about everything. He removed some tables replacing them with low lounge tables for a comfortable feel which made it easy for people to sit and mingle. The platters we ordered were delicious and just the right amount and it was easy for people to get their own drinks. We used a wall to project a slide show which worked really well. And after the event, he opened up the next door, Jade Lounge, for some of us to have dinner while he had another event going on in the restaurant portion. I learned about this establishment after my friend had a lovely wedding reception here on New Year's Eve. I would highly recommend Eugene and his restaurant!

Suprise 40th Birthday Party!

By BFallon |

My husband booked a surprise 40th party for me and several of our friends at the Jade Lounge for the evening. What a lovely space! The bartender was great, the food was great and the space was absolutely perfect. Very warm, comfy and offered plenty of seating. We would not hesitate to book at the Jade Lounge again. This is directly next door to the Slide Inn.

Perfect for 40th Birthday Party

By jwinkler71 |

I hosted my wife's surprise 40th birthday party at The Jade Lounge, which is in the same building as The Slide Inn which is a bigger space. The venue was perfect for 40 guests in an evening cocktail style setup (not a sit-down dinner). We used the projector and screen for a continuous slide show and a video. We brought in our own audio equipment, mic and laptop to run everything, though Eugene had equipment there we could've used. We set up the A/V in front and had the food tables in the back along the east wall. We were there from 7pm-midnight which worked out great. The food and the bar were fantastic and everyone had a great time. Eugene was great to work with and very accommodating. One more thing...the velvet curtain around the front door was perfect for springing the surprise - she poked her head through and - bam! I would highly recommend either space for your event!

Don't Slide Inn

By OregonDuck09 |

We were there for Mother's Day brunch and service and food were awful. Orders were mixed up, you had to keep asking for things, and food was overcooked. We had a reservation and still had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. Very disorganized.

Tasty, healthy, homemade, and lots of gluten-free options!

By hamilla |

The Slide Inn is a hidden gem with some of the best food I've had in Portland. Unlike every other place in the city, you will not have to wait in line for a delicious brunch on the weekends. We get seated immediately every time. I am gluten-free and dairy-free and The Slide Inn has plenty of tasty options for me. They even make their gluten-free bread from scratch! I couldn't say enough positive things about this place.

BEST SAUCES ON EARTH!!!

By Chris B |

I believe the owner/operator/chef magnifique’s name is Eugene and this was bar none the best collection of exquisite sauces I have ever had! We will be returning a the next opportunity. My wife has celiac disease so we are constantly searching for delicious and new flavors while traveling. This is the best find so far! Everything that comes with a sauce is recommended! Eugene’s food is not to be missed, and we dined at 7pm on Saturday night with only two other tables occupied. Not sure this is normal but it was the first time I have been able to have a quiet conversation in a restaurant in a very long time. For any Keane admirers there is an added attraction of A large collection of Keane art adorning the walls. Don’t wait-go NOW!!!

Good food, disappointing service

By AnitaR5104 |

I made reservations for 10 for Mother's Day Brunch. We were seated quickly, but the service was very slow. It seemed they did not have enough staff for a day that has a high volume of customers. The expresso drinks were not available that day. Apflsharm was delicious.. The turkey sausage was good, but a little dry, the Hungarian sausage was delicious.

Excellent, high quality food

By Rebecca P |

The food at this place is so good and so healthy, I was shocked that it's still a secret in Portland. Amazing grass-fed beef burger, homemade sausages, veggie options galore, and tons of gluten free items! And they do brunch too! The chef is excellent and they're very nice people.

Wedding celebration

By IDontWantToSignIn |

The Slide Inn recently hosted a wedding meal for us and our 44 guests. We had booked having previously had an amazing meal here, and loved the atmosphere in the restaurant. Eugene and his staff did an amazing job delivering a wonderful 3 course meal to our guests. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was great! We'll definitely be heading back to try brunch soon!

Great event location &/or date night

By Toni M |

We had a company event this weekend hosted by The Slide Inn. Their staff could not have been more warm and helpful; the food could not have been more tasty and delicious. I ordered the Linguini con Funghi with mushrooms, caramelized red onions, and goat cheese and it was fantastic. All fresh ingredients and organically aware, I really could not give higher praise. I had previously tried their spatzle on a separate occasion and it's the best I have had. For renting the whole half side of the restaurant, the prices were more than reasonable. I highly recommend The Slide Inn for a private event, or a romantic date location. The atmosphere also, is perfect - retro/vintage decor.

Enjoyed Brunch At This "Good Vibes" Chef Owned Restaurant!

By GlobalVillage |

Background: The entire Slide Inn was booked by our friends for their daughter's pre wedding brunch. Knowing they have discerning tastes, we looked forward to the brunch! Verdict: Everything we tasted at the huge buffet was delicious whether scrambled, fried, baked, etc. There was something for everyone be they meat lover, pescatarian, vegan, or vegetarian. Being from Vermont, the Maple Syrup Kingdom, I was impressed with the range of chef made syrups, particularly the lavender syrup. The owner/chef (sorry, forgot his name) was very friendly and willing to share his stories and or recipes. Though it's unlikely we'll return to Portland any time soon, if we do, we'd definitely make an effort to eat at the Slide Inn again!

Thank you Eugene

By Israel D |

We reserved the Jade Lounge for an event and the space, food, and service were all excellent. It made a great and easy day out for all of us. Thanks, Israel

Kale!

By James E |

Went for good beer and came away really impressed with the happy hour food. They have an amazing baked kale creation, like eating veggie chips. All the dishes were delicious, good service, nice to sit outside.

Great Sunday morning brunch.

By Colleen S |

Great spot. Perfect for brunch. I had the pancetta waffle it was wonderful. Great atmosphere, really nice device.

Cosy

By Franjoklaste |

Very nice little restaurant. Easy listening music and hip retro style. The food - I had Kaiserschmarrn - is tasty and authentic. The owner speaks good German and the menu has some German / Austrian food influences which was a nice surprise to me since I happen to be German. All good!

Company event was AMAZING

By Ashley R |

We held a company Christmas Party at Slide Inn with 100+ people and the staff were amazing. Matthew was awesome at what he did and made our entire team want to come back to this venue for future events!

Neighborhood gem!

By worldtravelmatters |

One of my favorite restaurants, il Piatto, was transformed three years ago into The Slide Inn, a Modern American, Germanic restaurant. You will still find the owners, Eugen and Lenor Bingham, in the restaurant every day. Admittedly, I am much more fond of Italian food than Germanic, but there are still many pasta offerings on the menu. Other entrees include house-made sausage, beef, pork, lamb, chicken, rabbit, burgers, and daily fish. I often order two appetizers for dinner and the selection here is large. Among the cold appetizers are five salads and the requisite Cured Meat & Cheese Plate. Hot appetizers range from GF Veggie Tempura to Sauteed Spaetzle and Daily Cheese Fondue. There are 15 vegetable side dishes! Most dishes are available in gluten-free, as well as vegetarian and vegan versions. Some of the dessert offerings: Apple Fritters, Apple Strudel with ice cream, and Black Forest Cake. My favorite meal period is brunch, which is available Saturday and Sunday 9:3o - 2:oo pm. There is a large menu of classic egg dishes, Austrian pancakes, French toast, waffles, house-made sausages and a long list of side dishes. Again, many items are available GF, vegetarian or vegan. We ate at a picnic table on the sidewalk and watched the dogs and their people walk the neighborhood. I ordered the Kale Scramble, my partner had the Speck Pfannkuchen. Portions are large. My egg dish was tasty and well-prepared, and included potato rosti and choice of toast. The enormous Austrian pancake had to be folded in half to fit on the plate and came with four delicious house-made syrups: hibiscus, coffee, lavender, and ginger. They are so addictive, you have to keep tasting them. House-made syrups and infusions are used behind the bar, and Eugen brews the ginger beer. The Mid-Century Modern decor is bright and airy, so opposite the decor of the former il Piatto. This is an inviting space available for meetings or private events. Be aware, the banquettes could be more comfortable. Adjoining the restaurant is the Jade Lounge, which features an all night Happy Hour menu of restaurant favorites. There are nightly live musical performances, mostly free, as well as poetry, spoken word, and comedy nights. Because of the neighborhood setting, the lounge closes at 11:oo pm, so music starts at 7:oo pm Sunday - Thursday and 6:oo pm Friday and Saturday. Just one block south, this is a great alternative to waiting for a table at Screen Door.

40th Birthday

By beachloversforever |

I reserved the Slide Inn for a casino birthday party for my husband's 40th birthday. I could not have asked for a better venue. The service was outstanding, the food was great and the space was perfect. I definitely recommend this space for your next get-together and we will be using it for our next office function. Thank you Eugene and staff - you guys rock!

Disappointing

By sosappy |

Our group chose to have breakfast here as we had two children with us, and could not afford to wait at our original restaurant choice. The server (and I think owner) was very pleasant, but the food was disappointing. The menu items looked interesting, but when we received our food, the quality of the food and the flavours were not enjoyable. We really wanted to like this place, as the server was very obviously trying his best.

Great Sunday breakfast and no line!!

By lovestotravel376 |

The Eggs Benedict, coffee, service and ambiance were wonderful AND we sat down immediately. I have no idea what the restaurant a mere block away has going for it as I would never stand outside waiting for a table for half a day to find out, but this was a great surprise and I'll be back.

Fantastic food and service!

By Monica L |

It was my last night in Portland and it was decided to go to this restaurant as its been a popular filming location for shows such as Grimm and Portlandia. Wasn't I lucky! When we turned up, the crew from Portlandia were filming a scene and we were lucky enough to be in it! But this is a review for the restaurant and have nothing but wonderful things to say. The owner served us and was so gratuitous and welcoming. We ordered the linguine carbonara and fungi plus the gnocchi. Service was quick and food delicious! The lemonade was amazing! And you have to try and brownie! Melts in your mouth! Best food I have had during my 2 week stay! Don't go to a restaurant chain. You really notice the difference when you eat something that's freshly made

great made from scratch German food

By Dan W |

delicious, well prepared traditional German food also with many options for vegan and gluten free dishes

Brunch Without the Line!

By vpea17 |

This GEM is right around the corner from Screen Door, and yet when my fiancee and I went to have brunch here we were the only people sitting outside on the gorgeous spring day! The food was delicious, the service was incredible.... although I don't want to loose the solitude, I also don't want this neighborhood spot to disappear! Definitely worth a try!

Post Wedding Brunch Gathering!

By Colleen M |

We rented out The Slide Inn for a private brunch with about 45 people the day after our wedding. Everything was delightful; the ambiance is fantastic, the food was delicious, the set up was perfect for a large group, with lots of little areas to sit. It was just what we were looking for, and the owner was super easy to work with. I just love this place! Highly recommended!

Great Venue, Great Food and Great Host.

By schafer372018 |

I had my wife's 50th birthday party here. I planned it on late notice, contacted Eugene by email and he responded with 15 minutes. He promptly sent me menu options, drink options etc. was super helpful. The venue was perfect in SE Portland. We had between 30-35 people. Food was great as was the service and drinks. Very reasonably priced. Eugene was super helpful and made everyone feel welcome. I would highly recommend the Slide Inn/Jade Lounge for any celebration, wedding, birthday party etc. You won't be disappointed.

fathers day brunch was great

By Mike R |

my wife, son and i went to the fathers day brunch. my son is vegan & there was a variety of dishes that he could eat; we had some of them as well. all of them were delicious. my wife and i tried all of the dishes and they were all delicious. we especially liked the salmon hash, banana bread and the homemade bread. this is one of the better brunches we have been to. the food was great and the price was so reasonable. you can tell that all of the food was made from scratch with a lot of care and love. we want to try the mothers day brunch next year.

Awesome Spaetzle

By Reinlanator |

This was my third visit to Slide Inn and it certainly didn't disappoint. How can you go wrong with homemade German eggnoodles tossed bacon, carmalized onions and cheese? It made the Kraut in me uber happy! Flavor Explosion... My previous visit was for breakfast and it was equally terrific. Good food, good atmosphere and good service:)

A Celiac Friendly Restaurant in Our Own Backyard

By Colin P |

My spouse and I visited the Slide Inn in SE Portland. Our restaurant choices are limited because we need celiac friendly offerings. We arrived at opening time on a Wednesday and initially had the place to ourselves which gave us plenty of time to discuss the menu offerings with the chef/owner as well as some friendly banter. They are quite adept at preparing gluten-free dinners without sacrificing taste. We fully enjoyed our meals, and cocktails. The restaurant is located in a growing neighborhood -- including new apartment blocks -- and the Slide Inn has no off-street parking. However, it was worth our time to make a few turns around the block to find a space on the street. We live in Portland and have added the Slide Inn to our list of go-to restaurants.

Outstanding private party venue!

By colorgirl01 |

I just had a smallish party here. 60 guests. Everyone commented on how wonderful the atmosphere, food and setting were so inviting. Eugene was easy to work with and his commitment to having all my guests feel comfortable was OVER THE TOP! Highly recommend SLIDE INN for unforgettable private party spot. Your guests will be impressed. THANK YOU EUGENE

Hidden gem

Skip the line at the Screen Door. Homemade everything and options for everybody. Weekend brunch is great. Nice ambience. Friendly service.

Company Holiday dinner

By Dennis C |

Our company chose the Slide Inn to host our private Holiday dinner, after finding it through an event coordinating website. Eugene, the owner, contacted us within 15 minutes of our inquiry, and remained extremely accessible and accommodating during the entire planning process. We were flattered when we discovered they were going to give us the entire space for our gathering, as we had grown accustomed in the past to squeezing into banquet rooms at other venues. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced, the space was perfect for our party of 19, and the service was fantastic (thanks Matthew!). The feedback I have received from all in attendance has been glowing. Some are even calling it our best Holiday Dinner Party yet. A very big thanks goes out to Eugene and the rest of the Slide Inn crew for making our event a smash.

Wedding

By jocelyn411 |

We had rented out both the Slide Inn and the Jade Lounge for our wedding and reception for 100 guests. The space, the staff and Eugene made it perfect. Eugene was so very easy to work and was consistently quickly responsive leading up to our big day. I would highly recommend this spot for not only events, but for dinner, brunch and cocktails.

Surprisingly uncrowded on Saturday evening

By zippo46 |

Our party of five had a wonderful Saturday evening dinner at this unassuming little restaurant that was surprisingly uncrowded. We shared two very good appetizers - a Hummus/Baba Ganoush plate and a Cured Meet & Cheese plate. For an entree I had Linguini with Funghi that was wonderful. The linguini was cooked perfectly and the Chanterelle mushrooms were plentiful and delicious.

Very good Dinner, Service very good considering server was only one working floor

By Big Al |

We had a party of six with a reservation. We ordered beverages, and our orders to our server, who looked like he was the only on on the floor taking care of tables. We quickly saw that this was endeed the case. Our server did the best he could, but large dinner party along with other 2 and 4 top groups came in, filling up the restuarant. that said, food was very good, drinks cold, and tasty. Long dinner, but worth the visit - Note to Slide Inn management - you are lucky, your server that night was "on his game', and pleasent despite being saddled with being the only server on floor. Otherwise, the outcome & review would be different.

Great space

By James P |

I held my 50th birthday party at the Jade Lounge side of the building and it was great! Everyone who attended had a great time because Eugene and his staff where able to take care of everything. The food was perfect and we were allowed to bring our own cup cakes, with no extra cost. The cost is very fair and I'm looking forward to using this space in the future.

Great for private parties

By Lindy D |

I booked the Jade Lounge for a private event for my Best Friend's Bachelorette party. The food was delicious. I highly recommend their beef sliders and homemade potato chips. Some of the best food I have had in Portland. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. They kept on top of refilling our drinks and making sure we had what we needed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Great for private parties with no rental fee.

We did a networking event and social at the Slide Inn

By Leah M |

This venue is beautiful and the staff and management were fabulous. I would highly recommend for your event/gathering!

An amazing brunch!

By Patty Roberts |

We were in the area, and decided to check out this delightful spot. Such a cool retro vibe inside, and there was some great music playing. We both had the turkey sausage scramble, and it was so, so good. Had a wonderful conversation with the owner, Eugene, as well. Definitely want to come back for dinner. Highly recommend!

Birthday Party

By RLDstar |

I hosted my 40th Birthday Party at the Slide Inn in late September. Both Eugene and Lenor were excellent hosts, managing the food (which was great!) and the bar. The space is really nice, and Eugene and Lenor accommodated our layout requests. I had about 55 guests, and there was plenty of room for dancing, standing, sitting and chatting. This is an affordable venue, centrally located and I would TOTALLY recommend. Thanks again you two for helping me celebrate!

Birthday party in the Jade Lounge

By Chris H |

Eugene was very easy to work with and very responsive as I organized a 50th birthday party with approx. 50 guests. It's a great venue for a party of that size, and guests commented that they liked the space. I thank the staff for their attentiveness.

Slide on in for some delicious food!

By Jeff B |

Sitting just one block off NE Burnside from a popular restaurant that always has a long wait, is this comfortable unique restaurant who's menu is a blend of food styles. The decor is late 70's quirky but with a feeling of a place you would hang out with friends. The food was great. I had the Hungarian sausage ( all their sausage made right there ) with rigatoni. My wife had the wiener schnitzel, which had just the right amount of seasoned breading. Several other choices on the menu to try next time. Owner Eugene was our waiter and chef that night and was very attentive and honestly interested in our experience. Great to see that from a small business owner who knows that happy customers are the best marketing.

Attentive responses and reasonably priced venue

By Helynne M |

Working on a wedding reception is hard enough, but we were long distance, too. Eugene was patient and attentive to all of our questions and needs via email and phone. We did visit in the summer and tasted the food, which was great. Next time we are in Portland, we will make a real meal stop. (Brunches look delicious!) We really liked the eclectic decor. The sitting areas were great for cozy conversations while still being close to the dance floor area.

Great job with our rehearsal dinner!

By V1711PFchrisl |

Eugene and his staff were professional, courteous, and friendly. The food was wonderful and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. We actually chose The Slide Inn somewhat at random as they were available on relatively short notice, and within our budget. We could not have been happier with a venue! Thanks for helping to make our rehearsal dinner a smashing success!

I've eaten there 3x-food from the gods!

By ussyorkown |

I've gone here 3 times now and and each time the food is excellent. It is a great location, close to downtown but far enough away from downtown that you can the Portland neighborhood feel. The food is great and you'll just have to try it yourself. Everyone else who has dined here says the same thing. The cook/owner Eugene likes to come out and say "hi" to people. Nearly and entire episode of Grimm on NBC was filmed here and the'll tell you about their brush with Hollywood. I've told people about this place and about 8 have eaten here and loved it too.

Enjoyed everything we tried!

By flymesomeplace |

It's on the bike route so we stopped in...had numerous plates of delicious food. Check their Happy Hour days....we were lucky to be there when it was Happy Hour the entire evening. Our server was oh so friendly and everything she suggested was delicious. Been here before when it was il Piatto and the owners are the same. Will be back with friends next time!

Great baby shower venue!

By Quinn R |

We recently held our baby shower at the Slide Inn and had a wonderful experience -- as did our guests! Brunch was delicious and the drinks were plentiful. Eugene was so friendly and responsive to all of my questions. He accommodated our group as it changed in size and made sure there were options for folks with dietary restrictions. The restaurant itself is fun and bright, and the layout made it easy for everyone to mingle. I would not hesitate to recommend the Slide Inn to anyone looking for a great event venue -- or just for a lovely low key brunch on the weekend!

Love Eugene and his flair!

By valpdx |

We have enjoyed brunch and Happy Hour at the Slide Inn for years. We worked with Eugene, the owner and chef, to throw a birthday party and rent out the restaurant. We had a custom-catered menu, gluten-free and vegetarian options and an open bar with reasonably-priced wells, beer and wine. We love this eclectic neighborhood eatery!

Delightful evening in all respects

By 1hurleygirl |

We recently ate dinner here with friends. It was a Tuesday night, so pretty quiet in the restaurant. This was of course delightful, and we had a wonderful visit, and learned about the owners own home brew of ginger beer. All of us eating had dietary restrictions, but the menu offered wonderful options, and variations to suit all of us. But, even better than having options, is having food that is delicious and flavorful. All of our orders were that! Both the food and drink menu are intriguing and tasty! We were delighted with our food, the service and the atmosphere.

Ummm...Nice People, Not So Nice Food

By J Kimberly W |

Slide Inn accommodate our monthly ladies brunch beautifully, the service was good, although there was on one waiter on the floor for a Saturday brunch hour. as the room got business, waiting became increased. The food was so-so, I am open to trying anything, but if it's not right, I will not return. Portland is full of great eateries, so this unfortunately will not be a place I will be returning to.

Good location for private parties

By 119emilyw |

We booked this location for a Going Away party. Eugene was very friendly and accommodating when planning the event and his staff was fantastic on the day of the party. The food was a perfect match for our size group...the beef sliders were delicious!!! I'd definitely consider this location again for another private event.

Fantastic Venue!!

By sheila t |

We had our wedding reception there and it was fabulous!! I cannot say enough about this place. The Slide Inn was very eclectic with a very chill vibe. We had about 40-50 people attend and it was very roomy with a good flow to it. I pretty much let Eugene pick the menu and he did a spectacular job because the food was fantastic!! I would highly recommend this place for any type of event.

Very enjoyable, worth taking a side trip

By Qpgmr |

Classic Portland cafe with interesting dishes, friendly service, and bohemian decor. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a stop!

Great location for a weekday business meeting

By Michele Y |

New to my job, I wanted to impress my boss and the Directors of our company. I contacted Eugene and we set up a wonderful Brunch and he was very helpful with the few people with special dietary needs. The location was perfect, room to roam and mingle before we sat down to eat. Everything was delicious and the compliments keep coming in from employees who want to not only do this again but bring their families to dinner. The atmosphere is so much fun as well, each item was picked by the owner to fit with the theme and feel of the space. We will definitely be back!

A Little bit of Germany in Portland

By Merlin W |

We had a fabulous meal from an extensive menu with many German style dishes. The wine list was reasonable. The owner is the chef, waiter and friendly host. The atmosphere was quaint, quiet and very inviting.

Great Find!!!

By ryanshane417 |

Slide Inn is just a few blocks from my house, but we discovered it on accident when my wife was trying to get lunch at the well-known and delicious Screendoor. The line was out the door and the friends she was with didn't want to wait. Someone nearby said, "Hey, you should try the Slide Inn. It's just a block away." What a great find! We've been several times since. The food is incredible, with a varied and original menu. (I believe the chef studied in Austria!) The service has always been friendly and quick. The atmosphere is awesome. To me, it seems both quaint and hip at the same time. Plus, it's usually not crowded and there's no wait for a table. Another benefit is the Jade Lounge next door. It also has a cool atmosphere, great drinks, and talented local musicians playing several nights a week. Also, they use lots of fresh ingredients from their own garden! If your looking for a new restaurant to try, I definitely recommend it!

Artistry, Comfort and Fun

By donna l |

We had a post-wedding brunch for 30 family and friends at the Slide Inn. It was as fun as a visit to your favorite Aunt's home (the retro Aunt with the big-eyed child paintings and the etch-a-sketch games); cozy and comfortable; supremely satisfying, given the delicious comfort food that is both delicious and different; and wonderfully affordable. it was a 5-star 'hit' amongst our crowd! And, Eugene could not have been better to work with. I would highly recommend the Slide Inn and the adjoining Jade Lounge for any gathering. We will be back!

Healthy American and German Cuisine

By greta s |

Yes, finally!. I was visiting Portland from Los Angeles and my friends told me about this new restaurant called "The Slide Inn". I went to the web site and was excited that for once I could order healthy gluten free dishes and sides and my boyfriend could order all the meat he wanted. We went on a tuesday night and the place is so cute. It feels warm and cool at the same time. Love the attention to detail. The food was so delicious and fairly priced. I ordered the vegan tofu burger on a gluten free bun. Should be unhealthy because it was so fabulous. My boyfriend ordered the Hungarian Sausage. He said it was plump and spicy but not overly spicy. We had some of the sides. Kale, pickles and the best red cabbage. Learned the Chef lived in Germany. I am coming back the next time I am in Portland. Wish the Slide was in LA.

Portland Gem for event hosting

By Odette E |

I hosted my wedding dinner here last weekend and the family had an amazing time! Eugene is an awesome, host, chef, server, and bartender. With a party of almost 50 people, he kept everyone happy and satisfied. The layout he prepared for the event created an inviting and social atmosphere for the whole party. Everyone could find their own space within their own social circle if they desired while also feeling part of the whole party. We broke out some bellydancing as it was an Egyptian-style wedding and their speaker system worked wonderfully with the mini dance floor we created. We had open bar with a set price that we slightly went over and it felt very fair. We all loved it and would definitely return for any other event we have.

Great place for wedding brunch

By Bettie D |

The Slide Inn is quintessentially Portland. Good food with a German twist, super-friendly people, and a comfortable, laid-back space that is the perfect venue for a group gathering. Hat's off to Eugene who simultaneously managed a Father's Day crowd at the Jade Lounge side and our 50-person party at The Slide Inn. I highly recommend for an event - or any weekend brunch.

Bohemian Rhapsody

By Mike B |

We had our son's wedding rehearsal dinner at The Slide Inn and boy was it a hit! Everyone loved the kitchy decorating and the great food. There is a real attitude at this place that shows in the bohemian atmosphere and German comfort food. The potato fritters with cherry sauce were wonderful, and we loved the homemade apple strudel. Owner and chef Eugene was very responsive to our email inquiries and welcomed us to visit several times before the event so we could get the lay of the land and decorate ahead of our party. We brought in an accordian player to entertain our guests, and our group took over the entire venue for a wonderful evening. We had about fifty guests and everyone loved the place.

Wide range of excellent Gluten-free options

By Robert P |

You won’t necessarily see this listed in a “Best of Gluten-Free” guide but this restaurant definitely qualifies. We’d now eaten there 3 times and have had excellent - and a wide range of - food each time. My wife, son, daughter and 2 of our friends are gluten-free (I’m gluten-reduced) and we sampled such hard to find gluten free items like tempura, onion rings and many more. The appetizers and main courses were ample size, tastes and textures really good and pricing seemed quite reasonable. We all like the decor - but this is a bit hard to find - off a main street on Ankeny (in what looks to me like more of a residential neighborhood. Fun atmosphere too with lots of 50’s clocks on one wall, a lot of original glass vases (beautiful) and more. Highly recommended.

Team Building Event

Eugene was flexible and super helpful as we planned a team building event for 100 team members at the Slide Inn. We used both spaces and they were perfect for our group size. The eclectic and fun decor made for a great setting. The food was good and service was impeccable. Thanks Eugene!

What else could you ask for?!

Super Diverse and Tasty Menu, Fantastic Beer List, Awesome Cocktails, Friendly Staff, Warm and Cozy Setting: Perfection! The adjoined Jade Lounge also has live music almost every night and usually without cover! I love grabbing a meal at Slide Inn and heading next door to the Jade Lounge for a post meal cocktail and to check out some PDX music.
