Outstanding BBQ

By ohohmai |

I'm so glad we stopped to try The Slow Bone BBQ. Possibly the best brisket I've ever eaten anywhere. Very very good. Traditional TX style where the meat is the star not the smoke or rubs. Speaking of the smoke, I enjoyed how they use the smoke as a well balanced ingredient thats delicate and supportive of the flavors not overpowering the meat. The sides were all excellent and you can't go wrong with any of them. The fried chicken is great and perfectly prepared. The sausage here is really very very good and highly recommended. The fries were just ok, nothing amazing. The pickles and other items at the bar were all great and recommended too. The day we were there they had a pop-up kolachie baker at the bar offering a variety of these heavenly Czech pastries. They were hands down lights out good! Can't wait to get back to Dallas and eat here again!

Best bbq in dallas

By Jschaf |

This place is amazing. Might just be best in Dallas. Brisket and ribs moist and savory. Excellent smokiness. Generous portions. Excellent sides. Go as often and you can for true bbq happiness.

Awesome BBQ Place

By NNANDI |

The beef rib is extremely juicy and tastes awesome. It is by far one of the best I have in Dallas. The sides are amazing-fried okras, cornbread need special mention.

Great Texas BBQ

By foodie_bob |

I ate at The Slow Bone about 2 1/2 years ago during a business trip. I was thinking about trying another place but after doing research I decided to return back to The Slow Bone. Often times you build up a place in your mind that when you go back you are generally disappointed. This place hasn't missed a beat in my opinion. First the staff. The folks working there seem to enjoy it and it shows. They were all very helpful and friendly. Now on to the food. Some focus only on the meats (which may even mean 1 item), others the sides but this place does them both well. Ricky (working behind the counter when I arrived) hooked me up. I showed her some pictures of recent Que elsewhere and then we started talking. I ended up going with the ribs (luckily I was there in time as they were down to their last rack of the day) & some moist turkey breast. Both were delicious. They have a good BBQ sauce and this time they also had a chimichurri sauce which was nice addition. For the sides I went with the greens and beans which were equally good along with their corn bread. I also like their fixins bar so you can get pickles, onions, jalapenos and more. If you are in the Dallas area and want good BBQ, I would encourage you to head over to The Slow Bone!

Good meat

By aprilg222017 |

Got takeout from here the other day, and my thoughts are mixed. The meat (brisket, sausage, pulled pork, and chicken) were awesome! A bit greasy, but they had great flavor--better than Pecan Lodge imo. The sides, though, really disappointed. Everything was way too vinegary. We even bought a different bbq sauce, because theirs was like straight vinegar. The mac and cheese really didn't taste cheesy at all. It reminded me more of macaroni salad. The baked beans were also like liquid vinegar. The potato salad tasted almost exclusively like horseradish. It was overpowering and really needed some onion, dill, etc. to balance it out. The only thing that I think worked was the chili mac, because it balanced out the vinegar flavor. Honestly, not really sure how to rate this because the meat really was phenomenal (as was the customer service I should add), but everything else was not good.

Put this on your bbq bucket list

By dallasbobtex |

After hearing about this place for several years, we drove by on a Saturday afternoon and decided it was time to see if it was as good as we had heard. It was better, better, better--Texas barbecue the way it is supposed to be done (like they do it in central Texas). My test for bbq is the brisket, naked, without the sauce. At Slow Bone, the sauce is just superfluous. The juicy, smoky brisket melts in your mouth. Everything else is just an added attraction. The service is great (serving line standard) and the decor is fine. Parking is a bit tight, but for bbq meats of this quality, you don't really care about all that. It's all about the meat. You won't be disappointed.

A True Taste of Authentic Texan Barbeque

By Martin H |

I fancy myself a BBQ aficionado and smoke a lot of meat for myself at home in Georgia. So when I am away I always seek out the BBQ places near my location. Slow Bone was truly incredible, but then I suspected that when I saw the twisting line of locals queued up outside and all the way to the front counter. Once I got into the place, I was immediately caught up in that smokey aroma I love so very much. As soon as I saw the man carving their brisket I knew that what was I had to have. In fact, I ordered a full pound and ate it there on the spot! Slow Bone will see me back again just as soon as I am back in Dallas. I missed the beef rib as they are offered on Thursdays and Fridays and so that is now on my bucket list too!

Out of towners wanted traditional BBQ

By Pilotmike12 |

The Slow Bone did not disappoint....except we were too late in the day to get the ribs....they ran out on Sunday by 2pm, so get here early. Brisket was very good, and huge portions on the variety of sides. It is not cheap for BBQ ($13.95 for 1 meat and 2 sides) but portions and quality make up for the higher than normal prices. Would definitely recommend.

THE FRIED CHICKEN was ALL THAT!!

By Faith S |

I was hesitant about getting "fried chicken" but my brother said you won't be sorry and boy he was right. I have never tasted fried chicken so good EVER!!!! The mac and cheese was awesomeness as well! I will return on my next visit to Dallas!

Best BBQ meat

By sakic19 |

Went here for lunch and my wife and I split Pork ribs, pulled pork and a brisket sandwich. The ribs were the best bbq ribs we've ever had and so was the brisket sandwich. There was so much meat on it. The pulled pork was pretty good, we've had better. My wife liked their sauce, I had my meat without it. The smokiness of the meat was so good. We also had sides of fried okra which was good, jalapeno mac and cheese which was awesome, corn bread which was good and hush puppies which weren't good. They seemed over fried. On the whole this meal was the best bbq we've ever had. Hopefully I can find a bbq close to as good as this place closer to me.

Total rip-off!

By G. Carrera |

Way over-priced, way under-flavored food, both meats and sides, and half the "meat" they give you is FAT, and on top of that, they want you to give them a tip even though no one brings ANYTHING to your table, not even drinks! The bbq sauces were NASTY! I tried THREE different ones, and they were all watery, tasted too much like vinegar. The ONLY good thing was the ice tea. And when I ask for a 'to go' container for a side dish, the lady, rather than putting it in my extended hand, she put it down on the counter. smh

Beef BBQ Hunt Disappointing!

By Carol Ann B |

The name attracted us to this restaurant as we drove past but some of us were not very impressed with the chopped brisket. Others in the group did not care for the chicken and ribs. Having never visited Texas before, I was looking forward to some really good tasty chopped brisket. Since I only had a weekend visit, I did not have time to do a lot of looking and every time we asked somebody about finding good bbq beef they told us where not to eat. The portion was good, the price was affordable and the atmosphere was also ok.

Poor experience

By DonePayingForPoorQuality |

I have gone to this place two times in the past month and both time they are out of turkey and fried chicken before I get there. I know, I know, it is a barbecue place... But their Fried Chicken is voted top 10 in the area and I would like to eventually try it. The African American female butcher this friendly, personable, and helpful. D white male butcher is short and rude, then he had the audacity to ask me to change the sign so that everybody behind me would know that there's no turkey left. I just wash my hands and want to eat my lunch not touch a sign that has been touched by many people before and have to wash my hands again before I'm able to sit down and eat. Either way, I came here for the turkey because the turkey is so damn good and you're out of it, so no don't ask me to change your sign. With the exception of the African American female butcher, nobody is ever friendly here. I will admit that they have some damn good brisket and turkey. They're macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and greens are excellent. There BBQ sauce, chicken, and sausage are all okay. Not bad but not anything great. And once again I would like to be able to eventually try the fried chicken that has been rated highly. Additionally, they are only open for lunch, so plan ahead and arrive early so hopefully you might be able to enjoy some of the food that is heard about on reviews.

Great BBQ

By Wilson L |

This BBQ joint is proper, the brisket is absolutely delicious and the mac and cheese is great. The fried chicken is unreal too. Definitely worth checking out. The service was friendly and fast, and the food is all so good. Definitely would recommend checking it out.

Good local BBQ, good sides & great service!

By mlbpafan |

We wanted a nice, local, BBQ place that was NOT a chain. We chose The Slow Bone for it's reviews. This place is not fancy, which is fine for a good BBQ joint! The line can get long, but it is worth the wait. The BBQ is excellent and there are many choices. The sides are just as good. You order at the counter when you walk in, then find your own seat. They have a fountain machine, so you drink as much as you like. The gentleman that was clearing the tables was very nice & efficient. This is just plain good Texas BBQ. We will be returning next time in town.

Wow!!!! Great BBQ

By Jasmine S |

Well I'm originally from STL, spent some time in Memphis and now live in the Carolinas. I say all this, because I know BBQ and this place is amazing!!! Watching them cut into the tender brisket as juices over flow made my mouth water! The fried chicken, get that! Actually I suggest you get a sample of all the meats! The RIBS are out of this world!

Beef brisket you can cut with a fork

By JParlante |

This restaurant was voted "Best Chicken in Dallas". However, I went for the brisket. It was tender enough to be cut with a fork (even a plastic one though they provide metal silverware.) They close at three in the afternoon. There was a line almost out the door when I got there. It is a locally known place and well worth any wait. This may be the most tender brisket I've eaten in Texas.

Excellent food & Friendly

By Christy K |

Excellent food & Friendly Staff. Meat was super tender and flavorful! Please try the Brussels Spouts!!!!!

Great ribs and sausage

By Josh A |

Wanted to try real Texas Barbecue. Placed highly rated and expectations were. Walking in staff very helpful. I had cheddar jalapeño sausage and amazing flavor. Ribs same thing. I tend to not use sauce so taste meat more. Rib rub great and loved the meat. Only failure was brisket. Looked good, but shredded when cut. Meat was over cooked. Smoke ring limited. Not impressed. Maybe just one bad one. I would go back, but skip brisket.

Solid BBQ experience

By mshbnyehud |

Classic Texas BBQ place, perfect for lunch. I ordered beef brisket (lean) which had a fabulous, tasty bark. Also ordered regular smoked sausage equally good. The brisket was a bit on the dry side but multiple choices of BBQ sauce restored any slightly dry meat. The meat for both was very tender. Make sure you pre-taste the sauce choices, A couple of them are quite tart, and throat closing if you swallow a sauce drenched piece of brisket or sausage. Add in a side of smoky pinto beans with beef brisket pieces and you have a winning combination. Parking was easy at 1 pm in the restaurant lot. I’ve been a scandal. The restaurant is very clean. I look forward to returning to try some other items.

Always great

By Andrew R |

BBQ that doesn’t ruin the meat with over smoking. We enjoyed the brisket, ribs, hickory sausage and fried chicken. Great sides. Slaw, cucumber salad, beans and more. They offer corn bread but we love the hush puppies. Whenever we are in Dallas this is place is a must. We will be back.

Very good bbq and sides

By DonePayingForPoorQuality |

I got a 3 meat 3 side plate and sweet tea. It was very good overall. My friend got the turkey and it was the best meat there, very moist and flavorful. The brisket was moist but not much flavor, the bbq chicken was bland and i would recommend skipping the bbq chicken, and the ribs were good. The sides were all excellent. The mac n cheese was outstanding. The squash and sweet potatoes were satisfying and flavorful. I would go back to get more sides, more turkey, and to try the fried chicken.

Good food, not the cheapest

By Chippenham1 |

We had a private function at the SlowBone, the food was very good and the ambiance of the pit restaurant is really good. My only one gripe is the price, which isn't the cheapest for good quality BBQ in Dallas

Great BBQ

By Texasgirl0915 |

Get there early (lunch only) for the best selection. Some items may be sold out if you arrive late. The BBQ sliced and chopped, sausage, ... all are good. I also like their sides.

Awesome 1st lunch in Texas

It was just a perfect experience. Came as a party of 4, had great food, chef was very welcoming. Special thanks to Ratna for the great tourism advices ! Hope to see you soon

Good BBQ but parking tight

By AVGTXN |

Tuesday lunch. Parking is really tight at this corner BBQ place. I appreciated the 1/4 lb brisket serving, even if it was a bit dry. Their sauce seems to have a hint of cola. My favs were the pea salad, squash casserole, and sweet, buttery cornbread. With a drink, I got out for $25.

One of the Top 3 Barbecue places in Dallas.

By BigGuyfromDallas |

The brisket is absolutely terrific! We will be coming back. The sausage was also great. Go for the sweet potatoes, it is like having sweet potato pie. Parking lot is small but you can park across the street at their other building where I think they do the actual smoking. You will more than likely have to wait in a queue but it is not a long wait.

A Highly Recommended Disappointment

By USE_TON_TX |

I was in town for a conference and looked up places near my hotel. This was one, but there was a line out the door, so we went to another place. A local came into that restaurant and said he had wanted to eat at The Slow Bone, but left because of the line. We asked if it was good and he acted like the thought of it put him in ecstasy. We decided to stop by the next day. My friend had fried chicken and a sliced beef sandwich. I had fried chicken and a cilantro sausage sandwich. The sauce was terrible. It was like red vinegar. My friend couldn't eat her sandwich. I had mine, but it wasn't even close to the best BBQ I have ever had. I expected more from Dallas.

Good 'Cue and plenty of Cheffed-up Sides

By Michael U |

Created by Chef Jeffery Hobbs in 2013 there has been no shortage of accolades for The Slow Bone since opening, years in fine-dining perhaps inconsequential to Smoked Meats but paying dividends across everything from daily specials to Pickles, Desserts and Sides. Off the beaten path near Turtle Creek, though this has never stopped diners from lining up prior to an 11:00am opening, it was in cold weather that guests stood awaiting entry while a smoker dubbed “Miss Jessie” finished her preparation of Sunday’s first servings. All smiles and pleasantries, Chef Hobbs front and center slicing Meats for each guest, it was with wide eyes that four guests ordered far too much, a Pickle and Sauce bar rounding out two trays from which supple Turkey Breast was an immediate standout thanks to unparalleled juiciness. Decorated as expected, with Beer signs and photos to compliment a Country soundtrack, Prime Brisket trends a little less smoky than one might hope while housemade Sausage are snappy and bright with or without one of Slow Bone’s many Sauces. Exciting with Sides, far from the average BBQ standards, Collards have all the sapor of Hobbs’ Pulled Pork brightened by Vinegar while Beans are benefitted by Brisket, though Vegetarian-friendly Sweet Potato Praline and “Brussel Flower Au Gratin” are no less delicious. Not forgetting Slow Bone’s famous Fried Chicken, blasphemy to purists but nonetheless excellent thanks to a Smoked Water Brine and Potato Starch adding to its crispy coating, Carbs come not from plain White Bread but rather an oversized Cookie and sticky Cornmeal sliced, fried into golden orbs or served as gooey Pudding.

This is the best BBQ place I have ever been to!

By Sabin C |

Truly the best brisket and fried chicken I have ever had! And it's great for vegetarians too! I was in the area on a work trip so BBQ was the only other thing I had planned other than work. Other than reading reviews, articles and blogs the best is to talk to the locals. This first rec was Hard Eight which was a drive away and had a ton of reviews. Went there, wasn't blown away, came back and while returning I saw Slow Bone right across the convention center... i thought to myself, what was all that driving for? So the next day my friend and I went over and tried the brisket, lean and moist, and decided to try the beef ribs, which is 1.5 lbs of meat. I thought, hey, if you're going to have a heart attack it might as well be for ribs! The first bite was the brisket...it was a sensation I have never experienced. Juicy, tender, moist, perfect salt, buttery meat that makes you want to forget about diets, oh and I eat very healthy. So while in Dallas, work out and eat out! This was the best I have had. The ribs came next, OMG! What amazing meat. I can't say enough really other than just go. We both stuffed ourselves and then realized their fried chicken is super good... so...we planned to come back the next day for lunch. Next day came way too slow but when it did we got the bird, with the recommended sides of Mac and cheese, sweet potato mash, and corn bread. Now this is last supper level food. I raised my arms in the air and said "lord! I'm ready" The service is homely and the team love what they do. It's art if you ask me. The space is very clean and the process of getting the food to table is well designed. I can't wait to go back for more!

One word: "Exquisite!"

By D. Brian Mann |

I read the reviews about this place and was determined to go for the brisket because that's my favorite BBQ item. 8 years in Texas made me that way. So up front, I gotta say that although Franklin's in Austin is recognized as the best of the best, I can honestly say that I would be hard-pressed to say which one is better. This is because both restaurants' pit-masters are artists. Both places are unique, as is the character of their brisket. Both products are a thing of culinary and cultural beauty. But in terms of tenderness, smoke flavor, moisture content, and quality of meat, they really are on a par. And we ate there twice, so it was no fluke. In fact, we bought a couple points to take to a party, and those who tasted it, including the restaurant professionals, were amazed. The pictures tell the story. We tried five or six different sides, and they were all excellent. My favorites were the mac 'n' cheese and the ranch-style beans. Slaw is great too, although the yellow color (mustard) is unusual. Super nice people too; servers, cashier, and the pit-master himself, who, when his wife saw us peering in the window at "Bessie," his smoker, had him invite us in to have a look. My word for the brisket kept coming up as "ridiculous." I shudder to think about how good the ribs must be. In fact, when my wife took her first bite, she said "I'm going to cry!" And she did. She's a Houston native, after all. Yeah, so when I'm in Austin, I'm going to Franklin's. And when I'm in Dallas, I'm going to The Slow Bone.

Great Lunch Spot - Get Here Early

By ross c |

Excellent meat and side selection - always like coming here for lunch. Even if the line is out the door, the cafeteria-style ordering is fast and efficient. Great selection of teas, sodas, and even beer!

Disapointed

By Travalour |

Went at 1pm for lunch. Had sliced brisket sandwich with side of okra. The meat was tender with good flavor. The BBQ sauce was bland/uninspired. Could not even imagine that it wanted to be better and was just an off day. The okra was was warm but shrunk and pulled away from the breading as okra does when it's been up in the window far too long. The breading reminded me more of old cake batter. Sadly surprised since so may positive reviews and the smell of BBQ meat walking into the restraunt promised so much more. Many other places do BBQ much better.

Outstanding BBQ!!!

By justin p |

THAT…WAS…AWESOME! I went to the Slow Bone based on TripAdvisor recommendations. Prime brisket, fried chicken, hush puppies, beans and slaw. Yum! If you’re in Dallas this is a must.

Terrific brisket and sides.

By Denis O |

The brisket sandwich was very good with a balanced smoky flavor. Moist and not too greasy. The side of macaroni cheese was creamy and cheesy, not soggy. The beans also had the barbecue flavor, and not a tomato sauce. The draft beer and bar are situated after the cash register and you don't know it's there until after you pay, unless you 've been there before.

Love BBQ and this was top shelf

By Dennis C |

i was in Dallas for a trade show and a friend suggest "The Slow Bone" which is within walking distance of the World trade centre. wE get there a little before midday which was a great idea as there were no lines and we were in all kitted out and eating within 10 minutes. The BBQ was as good as it gets and apart from the plate being way too big to eat and looks a little like a cafeteria plate it was fantastic. i would recommend it to anyone

Fantastic BBQ!

By DC_techguy |

Got into town and knew we wanted BBQ. The Slow Bone was suggested by the hotel concierge and man was she spot on. The brisket was moist and tender and the pulled pork and a surprising little kick to it. Great meal at a great price!

Amazing Little BBQ place

By Brandon Godward |

Great little BBQ spot in Dallas. Was recently ranked in the top 50 by Texas BBQ Monthly and I can see why. Everything was awesome. The brisket was amazing. I had them cut it off from the leaner side. Great flavor. The pulled pork was also extremely good. The cornbread was good. I Loved the BBQ sauce they had on the table. Worked well with everything. The place was very busy. Would highly recommend it.

Awesome!!!

By Cheryl816 |

We stopped in to try some authentic Texas barbeque and were not disappointed. The eatery is very casual, with cement floors and bar signs, and the food is served cafeteria style. We split a 3 meat tray and with 2 sides it was plenty for lunch for 2. The staff was very friendly and did a great job, and the beer was great (I'm not a beer drinker). Enjoy!

Delicious brisket!

By Louise L |

Prepare to wait in line, but it is so worth it! You select your meat, then your sides (lots of options) - everything was delicious. Brisket melts in your mouth. Staff was very friendly.

Best bar b q in Dallas

By Richard N |

If you like bar b q then you have to stop at Slow bone. Everything there is amazing...even the fried chicken. Yes Fried chicken lol. Meats are great and the sides are tasty. Better than pecan lodge...give it a try.

Jaw dropping pulled pork

By Alexandria N |

crafty looking little place pretty close to downtown Dallas. Amazing pulled pork sandwich!! Chili Mac and cheese was killer too.

Get There Early

By Bob Diggs B |

I love BBQ. A friend of mine recommened Slow Bone to me on my recent trip to Dallas. First things first, you have to get there early as there is usually a line and I hear they sometimes run out of beef early in the afternoon. The fried chicken...to die for. The brisket...perfection. Sides are downhome cookin' style. My only real complaint, and this isn't a big one, unless you are picky in regards to your BBQ sauce, it is vinegar based and bit too much for my liking. Don't get me wrong, good sauce, but only one choice on the table.

Melt in your mouth Brisket

By drichrx |

I decided to try this place (after hearing good reviews - one of best 24 BBQ places in Texas, one of top 50 Dallas restaurants) for lunch while attending a conference at the Hilton Anatole. It is only open for lunch (11-3) and is about 0.5 miles down Wycliff from the hotel. I got there at 11:30am and there was already a line inside of about 20 people. However, there were plenty of seats inside. The 1 meat platter and 2 meat platter are the same price ($14.95) with 1/2 pound of meat total. You get two sides (from an assortment of about 12), and either corn bread or hush puppies. I got the two-meat platter, with smoked pork (pulled) and brisket. The pork was nothing special, but the brisket was heavenly (flavorful and juicy). Next time, I will get the one meat platter with just brisket - it was that good. The sides were good too (I got the mustard & turnip greens, and mustard cole slaw), but not the best in the world. I was very pleased and recommended it to all the other conference attendees I met. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Best BBQ

By jlarew |

This is some of the best BBQ I've ever had. I had the brisket and turkey. Man was it good! Sides are excellent too! Sweet potatoes and beans are winners!

Great spot

By Katy R |

Found on trip advisor when driving through Dallas on a Sunday. Reviews were great so we stopped in. Excellent BBQ - we loved be ribs the most but the sausage was great too. Side is either cornbread or hush puppies and great veggies, okra and beans.

Excellent brisket

By WBB67 |

We visited on Friday, the day for beef ribs, so we got one of those and some brisket, and it was excellent! Juicy, tasty, really good! Also got the mac and cheese, really good, and the brisket beans, flavorful, a little spicy, excellent. Wish we had time to check it all out. By noon the line was out the door, with good reason. Friendly, great place!

Best BBQ Ever

By Dan B |

This was by far the best BBQ I have ever had. Plenty of sides to choose from, get there early as the line was out the door when we got there and they had just run out of ribs for the day!

Slow Bone Smoked Turkey

By lrich123 |

I had the smoked turkey with fried okra, hush puppies and sweet potato. The smoked turkey, sweet potatoes and okra were delicious the hush puppies not so much it was pass time to change the grease. Good atmosphere and the people were friendly.

Best bbq I have ever had

By Noah N |

Flee into Dallas for a football game, found this place on ta and headed straight from the airport. Small line at 1045 am, and now I know why! These were the best ribs I have ever had and some of the best brisket anywhere. Prices weren't bad at all. Also the pulled pork sandwich was fantastic, plus their sweet pickles are unique and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone, hope to make it back some day!

Pretty Good BBQ, Better Fried Chicken

By John J |

Don't judge from the outside appearance. The inside is roomy, clean, and nice Texas BBQ décor. Very disappointed that they have ONLY one bathroom (unisex at that) for all of the patrons inside seating - probably holds at least 50 people if full. That seems ridiculous when you need to wash your hands before and after eating ribs and fried chicken. The sliced prime brisket was tender, juicy, and flavorful, but not the best I have had. A distant runner up to Franklins, Pecan Lodge, and Cattelak, but much better than Hutchins. For the price I think it could have been better. The fried chicken is some of the best I have had and it was perfectly prepared, tender, and juicy, but probably 2nd to Bubbas in Highland Park. They serve split rib chicken breasts as two pieces, as I received 1/2 a breast when I picked my thigh and breast combo. I guess that is because each piece of chicken is the same price? Anyway, be aware. Horseradish potato salad was pretty good, but a bit too soupy. My wife liked the fried okra - they put sugar in the batter for a different taste. Their BBQ sauce is vinegar based and fine, but we prefer non-vinegar based more traditional Texas BBQ sauce; this was just a different taste. Hushpuppies were good and spiced with rosemary for a change of pace. Service behind the counter was friendly and made you feel like they wanted you there and appreciated your business. That alone is enough to want to come back. But hope they get a 2nd bathroom!

Brisket good and ribs and just okay.

By 4NY2VA |

There was a slight line around 1pm on a weekday but it went fast. We ordered the 2 meat platter - brisket and ribs for me, brisket and pulled pork for friend. We thought that the brisket was good but we both have had much better (especially in Austin), but this was our first BBQ in Dallas. Sides were plentiful and fried okra really good. Service was really good and friendly. Overall, I think Slow Bone is a good place (probably 3.5 out of 5), but not very good like a 4.

Earned their 5 star rating in every bite!

By Ben |

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent at atmosphere! I’ve worked at a bbq place and have a very high scale for what is good, and this met the mark. Good job!

Generous portions and great BBQ

By Rgpierce |

Can't decide what we enjoyed the most so I will list what we tried (and loved) Brisket Ribs Sausage Squash Squash casserole Brisket beans Potato salad (husband loved, too spicy for me)

Love this place!

By rjkmp |

This place doesn't get the credit it deserves for providing some awesome barbecue. The parking leaves a little to be desired but the food is worth putting up with the minor hassles associated with parking. Highly recommend.

Excellent BBQ

By 14patricko |

Quick friendly service. Great brisket, sausage was pretty good, excellent sides (Mac n Cheese and beans). The young man working the dining room could not have been friendlier. He made sure we always had everything we needed with a smile. Would return for sure.

Always great. Brisket, chicken fired or smoked, HUSHPUPPIES, sausage, side. All great. When I’m Dallas we will always be back.

My Go-To BBQ Place

By Dennis K |

This tends to be my go-to place for BBQ in Dallas. They don't have the BEST smoked meat in town--but it's very good. And they do have the BEST sides and the BEST service, in my opinion. Everyone there always acts like they'e delighted that you stopped by. The brisket is good. The ribs are great. The fried chicken is amazing. And so are the sweet potatoes. There's never an unbelievable line like you'll find at Pecan Lodge or Cattleack.

All was good but . . .

By Cindy |

My husband loves BBQ. We have been to almost every BBQ restaurant within a 50-mile radius of Dallas. We went to Slow Bone today because it was ranked number four and we had not been there yet. I looked at the TripAdvisor reviews before we left, and had already decided I needed to try the macaroni and cheese and the ribs. And like the other reviews I thought everything was really good but the barbecue sauce. Ribs were tender and flavorful, macaroni and cheese was awesome, BBQ beans and the hush puppies were all really good. The fried okra was just so-so and as I said the barbecue sauce needs a lot of help. Would I recommend this place? For a real BBQ connoisseur probably not. But for somebody who wants a good experience and are not real picky about their BBQ I'd say yes.

A New Favorite Place To Eat!

By checkoffthebucketlist |

This place was recommended by our hotel and wow, was it good!! My husband said he's adding it to our favorite places in Dallas list! Great Service and Great Food!

Best fried chicken

By Jackie C |

Went a couple of times before I learned that fried chicken is available. It's the best. I also love the sweet potato casserole. Yummy ranch-style beans include pieces of brisket. However, the mac and cheese is too spicy for me. Portion sizes are generous. It's a two-meal deal for me when I go.

I visited The Slow Bone based on Trip Advisor review and it being mentioned in a couple of periodicals. I went on July 4th with a friend as we both didn't want to cook. The restaurant pit master greeted us and asked if this was our first time, which I said, Yes." He offered to answer any questions if we had any. I was hoping the restaurant offered plates, as I noticed people were eating off of trays. The menu items are all ala carte. I ordered chopped brisket and ribs with collard greens. There wasn't an additional charge for bread. My friend ordered pork chops, which were huge, in addition to ribs, brisket chili, and a cookie. The ribs were delectable. They were tender and fell off the bone. The greens were tasty as well. The brisket didn't have the smokey flavor, nearly none at all, that I am used to. The barbecue sauce wasn't thick and zesty, but runny because of too much vinegar. The cornbread looked good, but lacked flavor. I tasted my friend's pork chop and it was moist, but lacked flavor. If I were to visit again, I would order the ribs only.

Excellent BBQ

Great food and service. Had the ribs and beef brisket. Highly recommend. Very clean and fun place for couple to have lunch.

Best brisket ever

By Heather H |

I cannot emphasize the awesomeness of this place. If I were a cow, it would be an honor to be made into their brisket. Just get there and thank me later. Best BBQ I've ever had. Thank you, thank you, thank you! (Drooling from The Eastern Shore of MD!)

Wow wow Fantastic Ribs

By Terry H |

Wow. Another Great BBQ place. I had the ribs and another in the party had brisket. The ribs were so tender and full of flavor. There must have been 5-6 ribs in the plate maybe 7. This was the first BBQ Restrauant I have been to that when I finished my ribs I was completely full. No not true. I passed completely full at about 5 ribs and was more like stuffed. Large ribs and did I mention very tender. The sides were also extremely good. Sweet potatoes are desert for me. Brown sugar and pecans. Wow wow wow. People were very friendly the place was extremely clean. This place has ranked among the top BBQ places to revisit. Not a bad value. Two people brisket plate and rib plate plus 2 drinks $35.

This has to be the best brisket we’ve ever had! We chose this place from multiple online reviews, while passing through the city for a one nighter. We pulled in 20min before opening and chose a picnic table on the side to eat lunch. We ordered a pound of the brisket (mixed) and pulled pork. The brisket had this amazing savory smoky flavor that was consistent throughout. It was so moist and juicy for both cuts. The pulled pork had a savory, acidic tomatoey flavor. A little more on the spicer side. The sides we got were the collard greens, sweet potato praline horseradish potato salad and cucumber/tomato salad. All are recommended but our favorites would be the potato salad, sweet potatoes and cucumber salad! The owner was very kind and turned out to be from the same town we live in. Plainfield, IN!!! #smallworld Thank you very much for the warm Texas hospitality. We greatly look forward to our next visit!!

Never Disappoints.

Stop by and see Jeffrey and his crew. Top notch every time. I love the Brisket. The wife had frito pie. My brother likes the chicken. My friend loves the ribs. Just go here. Go here now.

Great Food

By Joseph W |

Always great food....I've pretty much tried everything!!! I even was there a few times when they ran out of food. So Get there early!! Try the cornbread pudding-it is absolutely on of my favorite deserts.

Falling off the bone....!

By M. Lee |

Happened upon this place....luck was with us! Very friendly staff and the food is great! This is one of those small out of the way eating joints that doesn't look like much but the parking lot is always full. Good serving sizes and really tender BBQ. Traditional southern sides to compliment the slow cook'n. I will go there again the next time I'm in Dallas.

Awesome experience! From the

By Kelli S |

Awesome experience! From the excellent customer service to the brisket to the chocolate chip pecan cookie we had an amazing time! And omg the Dark Cide Crider was the best I’ve ever had! Thanks y’all!

Awesome BBQ and sides

By Mark H |

Coming from California this was a real treat for me. The Dallas crowd is very friendly and welcoming. The Ribs, brisket and brisket chili were outstanding...the only thing that comes close in Southern California is Phil's BBQ which is a hour drive from Irvine. Slow Boone is within walking distance from Hilton Anatole and Garden. With Uber or Lyft around if it starts raining.

Superb

By lucycan |

First time visit. We had a 5 rib plate with fries. Ribs were massive and sooo good. Fries were great! Also had a brisket and friend chicken plate. Brisket was top 10 for me. Friend chicken was about the best you'll find anyplace. Sides were good, especially the corn bread and brussel/cali mix. Great staff. Super clean. All around awesome.

Delicious Brisket

By Pumpkinlife |

The brisket was delicious so tender and juicy. Jalapeño mac and cheese and cornbread is a must try! Parked across the street but thats ok, lots of cars is a good sign!

Love it - so generous

By Cary Porter |

I love this place and the owners, they are so generous. They also happen to make the best Thanksgiving Dinner anywhere.

Standard good texas BBQ

By Doogie51 |

Not the best BBQ I have evr had but very good quality, very good service, and very fair quantity served.

Simply the Best

By wppro |

Slow Bone has the best brisket and fried chicken - period. The sides or just as amazing - great okra, sweet potatoes casserole - simply great. Their dessert is special - if you haven't tried it is amazing. The staff are great they have a genuine love of their product. There is great BBQ in Dallas but I come back to the best - Slow Bone.

Good but not Great

By TGFG |

Had brisket plate at lunch with friends. Order the dry brisket which had nice bark and was fork tender. Sauce had a little too much vinegar taste for me. Sides seemed good but nothing special. Good choice for lunch if you are in the area.

Great food, great price

By Roam798401 |

Brisket was awesome! Chicken awesome! Vinegar based bbq sauce with a mild tang upfront and kick spice on the finish. Well balanced sauce and perfectly cooked meats.

Great BBQ

By G S |

We visited this great BBQ joint on Presidents' Day. We arrived at 11am and were first in line. We had the chop brisket sandwich and the cilantro sausage along with the mac and cheese. The brisket was really moist and tasty. One of the owners stop by the table to see if everything was ok. We told him it was great and he said the brisket has a tendency to be more juicy after a rainy night in the smoker.

Great lunch spot

By Tony A |

Popped in for lunch and ordered the 2 meat plate with sides - brisket was tender and the turkey was not dry - both had good flavor. I had the steamed squash and the sweet potato casserole as my sides - the casserole is really more of desert and was excellent. My plate was full and with a drink came to $18 - very much worth the money!

Good eats at the Slow Bone

By Briana81 |

Very close to Hilton Anatole (less than a $6 UBER ride away) and probably could walk if it weren't so chilly. The barbecue was fantastic!!

Wow!

By ReshapewithApe |

Seriously, wow! My friend, a local, brought me here and it was amazing! I’m not typically a cornbread fan and this was divine!!! The Brussel sprouts casserole was heavenly!! The brisket was so tender!!! Really super yum!!!

Fast service high quality BBQ joint with good brisket, delicious ribs, cold beer, and chili mac.

By Trey |

This was proper Texas BBQ. Order at the counter and proceed down the line for all your food. The Brisket had just enough fat on it to be moist and had a taste that could make you cry. The ribs tasted like bacon just firm enough for a good bite but still ready to come off the bone. The chili Mac was a delight of comfort food that made me wish it was cold outside so I could warm myself with an entire pot of it. The collards were not bad. Small patio area for outdoor seating and a decent sized parking lot. The line moved fast but the employees were super nice and helpful. They also had a nice beer selection which was really great to get a local beer to go with the meat. Really our favorite BBQ spot of the many we tried.

BBQ Odyssey #389

By jetsly |

Slow Bone has earned a spot in Texas Monthly Magazine's 2021 The 50 Best BBQ Joints. And deservedly so. This was our 90th 'cue stop in Texas, and a thoroughly enjoyable one. $44.92 purchased a quarter pound of fatty brisket, a half pound of jalapeno cheddar sausage, 2 pieces of fried chicken (white meat), 2 pieces of cornbread, two hush puppies, a pint of horseradish potato salad, and a serving of Brussels sprouts au gratin. With the exception of the very dry hush puppies, everything else was on point. The brisket is buttery in texture, with good bark, smoke and flavor, but be warned: the fatty end cuts are roughly 50% fat, which we discarded. The sausage is exquisite, the chicken sensational-- a term that could be equally applied to the potato salad and Brussels sprouts. And what can one say about the cornbread? It is one of the best that we have encountered in Texas, a truly sublime bite! We highly recommend this restaurant, which has seating both inside and out, but severely limited parking. It's best to be there around the opening.

Yummy!

By roadtripmomma |

We walked from our hotel and the 1/2 of a mile was well worth it! It doesn't look like much, just a cinder block building on the corner. The inside isn't fancy but it was cozy and comfortable. A unique featue is that they use the food trays from school. The staff was polite, friendly and helpful. We tried a 2 meat platter with brisket and sausage and a brisket sandwich. The brisket was so good, I didn't use any sauce! The sauce was a bit vinegar based and not to my liking. They had a ton of yummy sides. We highly recommend jalapeño mac and cheese, sautéed squash and the beans. The beans didn't look that appetizing but they were yummy and peppery. We weren't crazy about the hush puppies, as we like sweet cornbread. They had a great condiment bar and great beer prices. If you're in the area and like BBQ, you should give them a try.

Really good Q

By grenny1968 |

We shared fatty and lean brisket, turkey and ribs. All meats were top notch. Brisket and ribs excellent, turkey good to very good. To be fair turkey probably needs to be eaten immediately and we had a lag time. Beans and Mac and cheese are solid sides. I enjoyed the different sauces as well as the pickled red onions. Absolutely would return to this place. Deserves the good press it is receiving.

I'm really full....

By Amanda S |

I have no pictures to share because I ate way too fast. My eyes are always bigger then my stomach but let me tell you something....everything was worth being had! Brisket was fork tender and smoked very well and the sausage was tasty too. Mac and Cheese was so yummy, I wish I could fly home with some. Husband had the smoked chicken and ribs, pecan crusted sweet potatoes and greens. Outstanding were his words. We were recommended by Dallas friends and nearly every driver we rode with this trip. Wish we could go back!

So, so good!!!

By Amy G |

This place was recommended by the owner of another bbq joint. It took us a while to get here but I'm so glad we made it. The brisket was amazing! The ribs and cilantro sausage were also good. I am not a greens girl but I liked these greens. You enter and go through a line to get your food then seat yourself. We got the three meat dinner and it was enough for both of us. We just asked for an extra plate. It's a busy, busy place and only open for lunch but if you're in Dallas you should definitely try it.

Slow Bone BBQ = Heaven

By Mark G |

This is hands-down some of the best BBQ in Dallas, especially for the prices. The brisket is great. The cheddar and jalapeño stuffed sausage is amazing! I also tried the Beef Ribs which were exceptional (those that eat Beef Ribs know how hard it is to find a good beef rib.) The Jalapeño Mac & Cheese, Buttered Squash and Horseradish Mashed Potatoes are all excellent choices. The staff and customer service are also above average. They are only open from 11Am-3PM, and because of the limited parking in their lot, I recommend getting there as close to 11 as possible. Also, the cover to noon and you will be standing in the long line out the door. Don't let the parking deter you. There is a warehouse across the street and I see that a number of people park there where parking is plentiful and walk across the street.

Last Lunch Before Leaving Dallas

By newtravelors |

We were able to go here just before leaving and I am so glad we did. The food was amazing and the service was also great.

Sunday Lunch

By samkibisu |

I had smoked and grilled chicken. This was my first time and you can be sure not the last. We went a group of three. The owner was very nice, told us about the place. Basically, this is one of the places you need to go in person to see and experience for yourself. Food was great and very well prepared. The waiting time was minimal but they are not open the whole day so plan carefully. Food selection excellent but you must love different types of meats.

Fantastic meals !!!

By Jim H |

Found restaurant thru recommendations...Have eaten there each time I visit Dallas...Make it a "must destination"....Worth going out of your way...Earns all accolades by other reviews...Not only being voted best brisket in Dallas 2 years in a row...All other meats are delicious and hard to save room for scrumptious sides !!!! My favorite experience in Big D !!!

yummy and plentiful

By allene698 |

Staff and meal were very good for the price. The seating area was small and was along the lines of a diner. I did not go there for atmosphere or anything fancy. I just wanted some good Texas BBQ and it was exactly that

BRISKET!!! Great experience.

By tlbyrd |

Walked here from the Renaissance Hotel. Found it by accident when I was looking for BBQ within walking distance. It was a great experience. The staff we so friendly and helpful with recommendations. Cafeteria style, which I like, and so welcoming. No line or wait at around 12:15 on a Friday. I was worried because the info online said that it can get pretty packed. They have a nice selection of local beers on tap (husband appreciated that). I ordered the brisket plate and it was hands down the best brisket I have had in my life. My husband got the "Pit Sandwich". He was blown away. Being from Miami, our BBQ options are limited. Seriously, this was one of the best meals I've had. Our walk back to the hotel was much slower for sure. We tried to go back the next day but ran out of time before our flight out.

Really Nice BBQ

By Patrick H |

Took the family here on Saturday. Came after the lunch rush so they were starting to run out of meats. My wife and I got the brisket. It had a nice smoky flavor and was moist. Sides were the squash and Brussels flower air gratin. Both of these were excellent and full of flavor. Kids had turkey which and another had a chopped beef sandwich. All were good. Kids didn’t care much for the sides. Mac and cheese was too spicy with the jalapeño in it. Fried okra tasted funny to them. Whereas I thought the okra was good. My oldest child had the sweet potatoes which she raved over. Like many BBQ places you are served as you walk in line. They add to the cafeteria feel with old style cafeteria trays where your food has separate sections. All in all the food was good and I recommend you give it a try for great meat with a twist on the side dishes.

Mmmmmmm BBQ

By vatechfans92 |

They know their meats. And sides too, for that matter. As other people have said, the most negative thing I can say is that you will overeat, since you won't want to stop. If you're looking for top BBQ, you can just stop right here. And very friendly staff too.

Amazing ribs!

By flight-fobia |

I have never had such amazing ribs in my entire life! The place is out in the middle of nowhere so you need a car to get here, but it´s totally worth it! Note - it is only open for lunch, 11 am - 3 pm.

Excellent casual bbq

By Formans |

This is a great casual bbq place very close to uptown. The brisket was very flavorful and the sides were excellent. All of the people working were extremely friendly! The manager recommended their sister restaurant a burger and beer place maple and motor! Thanks for a great lunch!

BBQ nirvana!

By ZeemomX3 |

Ate here for the first time and I LOVED it! The brisket was fabulous, and even better with their vinegar-y style barbecue sauce (they offer others too). They had a great selection of sides, and were creative with them, not the usual stand bys. I didn’t want any hot sides, but the cold offerings were excellent — tomato and cucumber salad with a great vinaigrette, fresh pea salad with onion and bits of cheese, mustard cole slaw (not spicy, just French’s mixed with mayo), and horseradish potato salad. All were delicious. Good hush puppies too. The decor and staff both have a nice sense of humor — had to laugh at the box of napkins by the carving station with a sign saying “For drool” :) Can’t wait for my next stop here, even though it’s far for me it’s worth it.

Always good- great lunch

By phil95 |

Always visit here when n Dallas. Landed Love Field at 11:30 at Slow Bone 12:30. Brisket and Chicken are our favorites. Lots of good sides. Don’t get there too late, the run out of food! Parking is ok. There are spots across Wyclif. Worth the visit.

the Best

By Randy E |

we went to several bbq place's (well known) and hands down this was the BEST I have had, great service and awesome side dishes, will definitely be back, highly recommend but get there early!

First Visit to The Slow Bone was Well Worth It

By 4ScottyJ |

Happened upon The Slow Bone while I was out riding and feeling hungry. I thought I had heard of a good barbecue joint on Irving Blvd so I thought I had to try it. The line was about fifteen minutes long which is not bad at all. I got the Two Meat Platter with ribs, brisket, mac & cheese, sweet potato casserole, and hush puppies. Everything tasted incredibly delicious. Highly recommended. I will be back and I will bring others.

Tender

By Robert M |

Some of the best pork ribs I’ve had in Dallas and you order them by the bone. Order meats by the quarter pound and that makes a nice combo. I had the brisket but others had the turkey and were very impressed. None of us had sausage - that was a miss on our part. I also heard their fried chicken is awesome. All kinds of sides but the chili Mac and cheese was killer along the hush puppies. You name the bbq side they’ve got it. And all served by friendly folks in a well maintained facility!

Great BBQ

By Richard M |

Great food & atmosphere. The ribs are fabulous. Order all the sides, they're great. Don't overlook the fried chicken, it was surprisingly good for a BBQ place. You will not regret a visit here.

Lunch

By Barblaraine |

Friends & I came here for lunch & it was delicious. We had brisket sandwiches & the meat just melted in your mouth it was so tender & juicy. We had sides of sweet potato, oh wow I had never tasted anything like this before. It had pecan nuts & like a glazed sugar topping so nice. Topped it all off with a cornbread desert which was also amazing. Good range of cold beers & drinks. Highly recommend a visit if in Dallas. Not to expensive but no to cheap either. 😀

Incredible

By Jessica S |

When the line is long you know it's a must try! We waited about 20 mins in line and it was well worth it. We were a party of 3 and were able to try different items. Everything we ate from the fried chicken, pulled pork sandwich, to the brisket sandwich was AMAZING!! Our favorite side was the mac and cheese. It was so creamy and good. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful especially since it was our first time. They gave great recommendations for us to try. We ended up going back dor a second time during our trip and again it did not disappoint. A total must try!!

Go Early - Closes at 3 pm and When it's Gone - It's Gone

By nailsAtlanta |

We went for a very late lunch - go there about 2:30 pm. They close at 3 pm - and so they were out of pulled pork and ribs for the day. Those were the two items we really wanted to order so we were sort of disappointed. We ended up ordering BBQ chicken and fried chicken - both were really yummy. Very large portions. We also loved the Mac & Cheese - but this has pimento and some other stuff in it - not just Mac & Cheese so some might not appreciate that. Did not really love the cornbread - it was cold and not moist; also not crazy about the Brussels sprouts. You order and use a cafeteria tray - I would really prefer table service. Employees were really friendly. Kind of expensive - $36 for lunch for two people - both ordered entree and two sides and only one soda - and no tip as there is no table service.

Great BBQ place!

By Paul L |

I just visited Dallas the weekend of 10/14 and my friend took me to The Slow Bone for lunch on Saturday. From the minute you walk in the great aroma welcomes you in. The food was excellent! I got the half chicken and my friend got the brisket. All the sides are fresh and tasty, and everyone who served us was friendly. Definitely worth a trip if you want some great BBQ.

Really good!

By jemx1 |

The brisket is smoky, moist, and delicious. The fried chicken is fantastic. The brisket Frito pie is yummy. The sides are so good, honestly I could make a meal out of the sides. Service is always efficient and very friendly, from the guys cutting and serving the meats, the staff serving the sides, the lovely lady at the register, and the staff attending to the dining room. The only problem I have with Slow Bone is that I live too far to go as often as I'd like.

Oh my goodness

By Frank_from_Ennis |

Went for a late lunch and got the 2 meat plate with brisket and fried chicken. The best bbq brisket I have gotten in Dallas and the beat fried chicken I have had in a long time. I can't wait to go back.

Oh my Goodness

By 2ndkjs |

I have eaten fried chicken my entire life and never have I ever had fried chicken this good. Words can't describe the delectable goodness that your mouth is tasting right now. The ribs were fabulous as well as the brisket and turkey and the sides........yum. Don't miss the cornbread pudding.

I love local restaurants and

By Victoria T |

I love local restaurants and the BBQ here met all expectations. They do not have dine in at this time but have tables outside. The brisket had the perfect smoke ring/flavor, moist, and taste was delicious. Staff greeted us with a smile and provided exceptional service. The pinto beans was my favorite side along with the hush puppies. We also tried the potato salad, not a fan due to having horseradish in it, but if you are a fav of it, then you can’t go wrong! If ever in area again I will definitely stop by!

Great Lunch!

By Tony C |

I had the brisket (fatty side), with greens, squash, and cornbread. Everything was excellent! They have two very good sauces and a nice selection of free garnishes (sweet pickles, onions, etc..). The staff was also very friendly. Highly recommend.

Good down to the "Bone"

By Birddawg |

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday, not too crowded. Nicely decorated inside with cozy but good seating. I went for the brisket and it was very good. The vegetables were excellent as was the cornbread. This is a pay by the weight, so it can get expensive if you're not careful. Did I mention the giant chocolate chip cookie, it was yummy! I would return and curious about the Fried Chicken?

Best Meal in Dallas

By Frank DeGennaro |

My daughter found this barbecue gem that is only open for lunch but definitely is something you have to do when you are in the area. The food is incredible. We had ribs that just fell off of the bone and a brisket sandwich that was seasoned perfectly. You really do not need to use sauces for this food as it tastes perfect as is. The sides are also incredible. My daughter enjoyed the brussell sprouts and the mac & cheese while I thought the beans with pieces of brisket were just superb. At the end of the meal we had a great conversation with the very friendly staff. Highly recommended restaurant.

Unquestionably the best BBQ I've ever eaten

By CJPOB |

While visiting Dallas recently, the Slow Bone was suggested to me by a lifelong Dallas area resident when I mentioned BBQ. I had seen the restaurant listed but hadn't venture to it based on the limited service hours (11 AM to about 3 PM). Based on the recommendation I found my way to Slow Bone and was absolutely blown away by how good the brisket was - the best I have ever eaten. The restaurant had a line out the door by 11:30 AM but thankfully it moved very quickly. The restaurant serves a variety of smoked and cooked meats, along with about 20 side dishes to choose from. They offer soft drinks and beer for sure but it is all about the food. Everything that I consumed was delicious. Find your way to Slow Bone! You won't be disappointed.

Okay...

By brandasa |

It was a bit expensive for what it was. This a "fast food" BBQ cafetaria set up. We stayed at the Hilton Anatole. We preferred Rodeo Goat over this.

So good, awesome sides, chimichurri

By Bruiserfan |

Delicious meats. Two of us had a two meat plate, so We got to sample ribs, traditional sausage, cilantro sausage, and brisket. The brisket was my favorite. The cornbread was brushed with honey on top, so good. Husband had hushpuppies, they are the round kind, not the kind that are cylindrical shaped. The sides were all so good. I loved the greens, very flavorful. And the horseradish cream potato salad was also excellent. I'm not positive, but I believe the sides change from time to time. My husband also loved his sides which were a Brussels sprout/cauliflower gratin and a mustard Cole slaw. I've never met a condiment I didn't like, so the fact that they had a little sauce area with chimichurri and some others, as well as some sweet/hot pickles, pickled onions, and tasty peppers sealed the deal. I'll be back for sure!

BBQ when you need it

By Milehimoby |

This area of town has little for travelers staying at local hotels for conferences. You wait in a long line here, but the meal is worth it. Meats were great and sides all had great flavor. I did have the stem of a jalapeño in my mac & cheese, but I didn't mind because it meant the food was prepared with some fresh ingredients.

Meat was the only upside

By Tiff08217 |

The meat was really good. I had sliced brisket with two sides (mac and cheese and beans) both sides i did not eat. The cornbread was okay. Not very corny more heavy bread. The meat was very tender and the rub had a good taste and crunch I wish the crust on my meat was on the meat and not on the fat. I'm from Oklahoma so, the BBQ sauce was just way to tangy for me. Like too much vinager flavor. The plate was $14 and all I ate was the meat.....I wouldn't come back. A brisket sandwich was $10 alone.

No Frills BBQ Place - Get the Fried Chicken!

By dave_quack |

I ordered the brisket and the ribs. The brisket was dry and I regret not ordering the fried chicken. My friend got the chicken and it was incredibly moist. I wasn't crazy about the barbecue sauce. I prefer sweeter sauce and Slow Bone's is vinegary.

Great BBQ

By vacalover13 |

The brisket was tender, the ribs right off the bone and the sweet potato casserole out of this world. The price was decent for the portion size and all the staff was friendly and nice. Highly recommend

After half a dozen visits ...

By MetroplexJim |

I am firm in my belief that The Slow Bone is right 'up there' with Pecan Lodge for consistently serving quality BBQ. And, you can park at the door and rarely have to suffer a line. The seating is comfortable, the service is Texas-gracious, and the sides & sauces are very tasty. On my last visit I tried their fried chicken which is unique in that it is both smoky and crispy. In sum, this is our 'go to' BBQ place in Dallas.

Best brisket

By Beth |

My boyfriend and I visited this one restaurant because it had such great reviews and we definitely agree, my boyfriend had the brisket which he said was amazing! I am personally a vegetarian and the choice of food isn't amazing if you are a veggie however, I wasn't expecting it to be. But still, the mac and cheese was delicious and I got fries which was great. Would definitely recommend if you are a meat eater as the meat looked so good and the vegetarian options, although small, are still absolutely delicious! Thank you!

Unique rub

By James A |

Lean brisket juicy and tender large amount of salt and pepper rub... a biting smoke. Ribs tender and sweet with an herbaceous rub. Unique. Old style sausage with similar spice profile to the rib rub. Juicy and relatively coarse grind. Parking is sparse. You might need to use one of the overfill lots.

Excellent BBQ

By Brian C |

Excellent choice for barbecue in Dallas. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I had the pull pork sandwich and the beef brisket beans. Both were excellent.

Best

By Joseph981 |

This is the best barbecue I have ever had. I recommend everyone to try Slow Bone. It is worth your money.

Excellent fried chicken!

By JeffnSusan |

A definite must have while in Dallas. Served old school and with a friendly attitude. This was our first trip after moving to Dallas last year. I have had my favorite fried chicken place back home for 40 years and now it has been replaced by The Slow Bone! The ribs are also a don't miss. My wife says this was the first restaurant that served cornbread that is actually good cornbread. They know what they are doing! There is a huge variety of sides and it being our first time we tried, everything but the turkey and the sausage. That will be another trip but you can bet we will also have the fried chicken and cornbread! One more thing, they are only open a few hours each day and may run out of a protein so don't be late!

Over rated

By Derrel F |

I love BBQ and have been to a lot of different places. This place is really over rated. The ribs were decent, but the brisket sandwich is not that good. I have to say it was tender, but it was very dry, and the bun was way too thick. I moistened the brisket with BBQ sauce but the sauce was not good either. Maybe I will go back some day and try the fried chicken or sausage. The parking lot is too small, this is about the 5th time I have been there but it's the first time I could find a place to park. That is because I got there at 11:00am but when I left, the lot was full. Maybe it was just a bad day for brisket. It beats Dickie's and Spring Creek, about on par with Sonny Bryan's, but Lockhart, Hutchins, and Pecan Lodge are in a totally different league. If you are visiting Dallas and want really good BBQ, don't go here, go to Lockharts, Hutchins, or Pecan Lodge.

Great BBQ near Medical Center

By James14960768 |

Been coming to this place for years. If you are in the Medical center and are looking for some great eats, definitely try them out. Brisket is good here, by Texas standards. The gem here is the fried chicken. You have not had fried chicken until you have there version. Really mouthwatering, tender, and delicious. The other reasons to love this place are the sides. They have some standards but also add and remove. They are to die for!!! From the chile mac and cheese, to the flowered brussel sprouts, and to the standard praline yams. You will not be disappointed. They open at 11am and go to about 1 or 2pm. They do sell out of items early. I have always felt that you can tell if a place is good by the amount of customers that show up. We arrived at 11:15 and the line was already going out the door. If you want better selections arrive early.

The Best.

By Dennis P |

I make a point of trying BBQ everywhere I go, from KC to Savannah and this is the best brisket I've ever had in a restaurant setting. Would recommend, and try all the sides! Especially the corn bread pudding. PS, cold sides are around the corner.

BBQ? Don’t pass up the fried chicken

By Michael K |

Top notch Texas BBQ, little to no wait! All the standard goodies, but add in Beef ribs and the best fried chicken you’ve put in your mouth and this place soars. Unusual and fanatic sides only add to the explosion of taste in this friendly atmosphere!

OMG - YUM!

Only open from 11am to 3pm and gets super busy 12-1 (parking is limited) but what an amazing find. The ribs are just the right size and lean , the brisket is tender and soooo good. The sides are delicious and lots to choose from. The sweet potato casserole was more like a dessert than a side. BBQ in Texas is a must and so is Slow Bone.

Got my brisket!

By Susan M |

Wanted to have brisket before we left Dallas. Went there at 11 for lunch on a Monday. We both got a 3 meat platter, knowing we'd give leftovers to our son who lives in the area. Hot, delicious brisket, fried chicken, and pork ribs. Lots of food, great sides. I loved their cauliflower brussel sprouts au gratin and my husband enjoyed his praline sweet potatoes. We would go again. We also purchased a gift certificate for our son. It's not a big place inside, so I would imagine there would be a wait on weekends or during the noon hour.

Very good BBQ - great service

By Doug D |

Came in late Saturday (open 11-3; 7 days). Out of pulled pork, turkey, ribs. Had brisket - ordered both fatty end (me) and lean (wife) and the had a couple of individual pork ribs from the end leftover. Ordered Tots, and Jalapeno Mac and cheese. Service was very pleasant and friendly - from the owner thru the entire staff! Nice casual atmosphere with cold beer available! To the food - brisket was very good - great flavor and texture and very moist - even the lean end. Pork rib had cod smoke and texture - a bit more towards completion than fall off the bone. Mac and cheese was very good as well. Need to return to get pulled pork, chicken and a full slab before I can give 5 stars, but based on this first visit, and the way they operate, I am optimistic on the rest of their meats.

You Will Leave Full = Solid BBQ and Excellent Customer Service

By soror0198 |

My husband and I went on a Sunday afternoon after passing it by several times over the past few months and I am so glad that we did. The restaurant is a cafeteria-style serving set-up with very plentiful serving amounts. I had the 2 meat plate with "fatty" brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage, my sides were the jalapeno mac & cheese and praline sweet potato souffle with a side of cornbread. Minus the mac&cheese (just not for me), EVERYTHING was delishussss! The praline sweet potato souffle and cornbread made me smile on the outside and inside! My husband had the ribs and fried chicken as his two meats with greens and cowboy beans. Minus the beans, he said he'd get everything all over again. The customer service was very attentive, patient and made you feel welcomed. The ambiance is clean, unassuming and down-home. If you're looking for very good BBQ and money well-spent, add this place to your list.

Will definitely be back

My wife and I stopped here while on a business trip. We got the 2 meat with ribs and brisket. Could be the best brisket I have had. The Mac and cheese was super good as well. The ribs were tender and super flavorful. Will defiantly be back. My wife got the sweet potatoes and cucumber and tomatoes salad. She really liked both.

Holy Smokes!

Was in a conference in the area and stopped here for lunch. Everyone's food was yummy. I just wished I lived closer so I could go more often!

Local hometown Barbeque

By Beth O |

Our concierge from our hotel recommended Slow Bone, short walk from our hotel. Highly recommend trying local Texas barbeque here! The place is small, busy and only open for lunch but well worth it. We went twice - highly recommend ANYTHING, sides were good -especially the mac and cheese and brussel sprouts. It is worth the money - we had brisket, ribs, turkey and wanted to try the fried chicken but it was already sold out. Make sure to visit this place next time you are in Dallas.

Best BBQ Ever!

Amazing bbq with a wide variety of options, including lots of vegetarian options that are also very good. Great selection of local microbrews and non-alcoholic beverages. Super friendly help and fast service. Don't skip this place it's fantastic.

I'll be dreaming of this meal

Everything dissolved in my mouth... the ribs, greens, mac and cheese... it was all amazing... I truly enjoyed each bite in this lovely Texas joint full of quirky interior decor. I highly recommend this local joint for a low key delicious lunch.

Great bbq

I had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on top, plus sweet potato casserole, for lunch and it was all very good. The flavors were great. The service was friendly and there was plenty of seating inside. A great place to go for lunch, since they are only open from 11a-3p. Had free parking in a small lot as well.

Great BBQ in Dallas

By Emma B |

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Slow Bone. Brisket was delicious. The beans were just okay, but the cornbread pudding was honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. Definitely recommend, although the parking lot is awful to maneuver and it is not a sit-down service restaurant!

Excellent Food & Service

By Jody S |

My first time to eat here and it was great. They are open 7 days a week until 3 pm. I had the brisket plate and it was the best brisket I have had in a long time. Their side dishes are better than the norm, and they have some interesting choices. Very good service and nice & clean place to eat. I will be back!

Disappointing lunch

By Kim A |

After reading the reviews a group of 8 of us went for lunch. The mean was ok, the shredded pork was fatty and mushy. My friend said the brisket was great and the fried chicken was good too. The sides (we had tater tots, hush puppies, mac and cheese and potato salad) were ok. Potato salad tasted like horseradish, I didn't eat it. Mac and cheese tasted like jalepino, tater tots had no flavor or seasoning and the hush puppies were basic. For a $15 lunch I wish I could've sent it back.

Brisket was amazing. Pulled pork was terrific. Mustard slaw needed to be without the mustard. The mac and cheese was just ok. The service and staff were great.

SLAP Yo Mama

Oooooooo weeeeeee; that’s some good BBQ! I was so full my stomach hurt for hours. I tried to eat myself into a food coma. Go with friends so that you can try multiple items. I can’t even choose a favorite food item. I liked it all.

You must visit this place

By Andy E |

A co-worker said we needed to eat here. I agreed. It was a great experience. Please note that I'm gluten-free and I took a chance on eating here as they didn't seem very aware (like most places in Texas). I stayed away from the obvious. I didn't eat their sauce. Nothing I ate on my plate caused me any problems. Make sure you try the brisket. The coating is wonderful.

To beat this place would be impossible.....

Ok, I am the Barbecue King. This place is truly the bomb, and I mean it. Briskets that were slow cooked in a smoker for 13 hours? Absolutely incredible! Pork ribs, sausage and fried chicken? Are you kidding me... Slap me to make sure I'm not dreaming. Mac and Cheese, Greens and Brussels sprouts that will drive you all crazy.... If you don't come to this place and chow down, you're just flat out missing the BBQ Train. Get here quick. Oh, the cookies are bad to the bone.

Best. BBQ. Ever.

By MagicGirlWillow |

Brisket is heaven. Fried Chicken is delicious. Frito Pie (with brisket chili) is my happy place. Green chile mac and cheese is mind blowing. Horseradish potato salad...omg. Gets very busy very fast so try to go at 11am for maximum enjoyment and ability to park. Can be pricey depending on what you get but there is SO much food I can get a minimum of 2 meals out of it. Often 3. If you don't have the ability to take leftovers home you might consider sharing with your companions if you bring any to save waste.

Beautiful Brisket ❤️

By Erin H |

I thought I’d had the best yesterday, but this is better. Tender, not too salty, smoky, lean. The ribs were the perfect texture. The Mac was cheesy and flavorful. And who doesn’t want to be told that “Barbecue Makes You Beautiful.” Go here. You won’t regret it.

Excellent Food

This is one place that you have to visit if you can get in. The food is excellent BBQ with fast service. It is packed so go early or late lunch because the line is out the door.

Excellent bbq sandwich, tons

By Brent F |

Excellent bbq sandwich, tons of delicious sides (I had trouble choosing!), fun atmosphere, and quick table service to take the dirty plates away. Will most definitely go here again if I’m traveling through the area. Thanks also for the military discount.

Go here if you're in Dallas and want brisket, cornbread and yummy sides!

By Tracie L |

I hit 2 BBQ spots on my 4 day trip to Dallas and this one won out, in my opinion. I had ribs and brisket (leaner cut). SO SO Good! I normally am not a huge fan of these style ribs as they are usually tougher and don't fall off the bone. These fell off the bone - I approve! The brisket was really tasty and tender. My husband actually preferred the other BBQ spot's brisket flavor over this one. But they were out of the clod (leaner cut), so it was not apples to apples, so I had a hard time getting over the grease and fatty aspect of that one - see my other reviews for my review of that spot. I liked the sweet BBQ sauce that you could grab at the self serve bar best. For sides, my husband had the brusiflower (?) it was brussel sprouts and cauliflower in some cheesy type of sauce. He loved it! I had the mustard/collard greens and they were ok. The squash side was the bomb! I could have eaten just a big tub of that - SERIOUSLY! So good, if you like squash and zucchini. Plus the cornbread was not too dry, good flavor - approve of this as well. The line wasn't too bad - we went on a Saturday at approx 1pm. We waited for maybe 15 minutes or so. If I wasn't feeling like rolling the dice and trying a new place next time we're in Dallas, I would definitely return here.

Just ok

By Denene123 |

Thought the brisket and ribs were okay but not a fan of the sauce. The sausage was ok. The mac & cheese was the best. Not impressed with the Brussel sprout dish. The beans were tasty. I'm not sure I'll be back but I think it should be given a try!

Awesome BBQ

By naturetack |

One of my favorite BBQ places in Dallas. The meats are delicious, but I think what sets them apart is the amazing sides. I think it's fun to stand in the lunchline and the service is very fast. Don't worry about the tiny parking lot, you can usually park across the street, there's plenty of spots.

Discover Texas BBQ at this Locals Spot!

By nvwinegirl |

In Dallas for business, I needed to take some locals out for lunch and asked them where they'd like to go. Without a pause, it was The Slow Bone. This small, casual little lunch place located in downtown Dallas is a gold mine for BBQ! It's a small stand alone building and offers a mix of meats, sides and corn bread - lots of options from this southern hospitality establishment. It operates like a "cafeteria line" where you walk up to the counter, order, and move along to the next section. I ordered the 1 meat platter and had the brisket which was to die for. Next time I'll try the 2 meat platter! I also had the fried okra, corn bread and brussel sprouts/cauliflower gratin. The jalapeno mac and cheese looked great too! This place is a gem offering great southern food at incredibly reasonable prices. If you're in the mood for a TX BBQ lunch, then this is a must try! Delish!

Saturday Stake Out

By Buddy B |

Straight to the food . It was BAD . The ribs are way over seasoned with a dry rub that is way over thought.. The turkey was so bad that my daughter returned it and got a chopped brisket sandwich that was greasy and was way over salted . I travel all over eating BBQ and this place came highly recommend..but it is right there in the bottom ten .. Should have known something was up when they advertise Dallas best fried chicken . If you like greasy over thought and overly seasoned food this is your place overall a very sad experience that cost $$$$ for greasy fat bad BBQ

Delicious quick service BBQ

By DrMikeinNJ |

Decided to check this place out as it was close to our hotel (Renaissance). Not a huge spot but good ratings on TA. Smelled amazing as you walk in the door. Place isn’t huge and there isn’t much parking. Cafeteria style, you order at the counter, they put it on a platter for you and you pay at the end of the line. Was expecting a metal tray and a serving on paper like I’ve experienced in Austin BBQ at Franklins or La BBQ, but they use a strange plastic-elementary school-like tray. Ordered the pulled pork and brisket. The pork was good but seemed a bit “too” pulled as I like thicker chunks in addition to the stringy pork. But it was good. Brisket was very moist with decent smoke ring. Sides were plentiful but they were out of a lot. I got the last bit of collard greens and they were out of the cornbread. BBQ sauce was really good, heavy on the vinegar which I like. This is definitely a place I’d go back to!

Awesome bbq ... and fried chicken

By ShStSt |

The bar-be-que here is excellent. Possibly even better is the fried chicken. A two meat plate with your favorite bbq plus fried chicken is outstanding. The praline sweet potatoes and horseradish potato salad are very good as well.

Smoked great, sour sauce! Bring your own sauce!

By Scott K |

Came here to try it with all the reviews, nobody mentioned that all of the barbeque sauce is very sour and the vinegar overpowers EVERYTHING! Got the brisket, pork ribs, and pulled pork, all of it was cooked well. Pork ribs were the best of the 3. Original, sweet jake, homemade sriracha and the other one were all just vinegar man. So sour and ruined the visit for me. I started eating the brisket and pulled pork plain and it was such a disappointment. Pork ribs had it's own pepper and sauce which was fine by itself. I would come back if I brought my own barbeque sauce. If not, just go to any other bbq around.

Amazing BBQ

We went here for lunch and chose the brisket and ribs. They were amazing, almost melting type of soft. We will definitely come back here. The staff was friendly, the prices were good and the place really nice.

Perfect BBQ

Long lines and smiling faces are a good sign you're at the right place. Needless to say, everything was marvelous. Fall off the bone ribs, juicy brisket, and the best friend okra I've ever had. Come hungry.
