The Lamb was great but there was nothing special about the ribs and brisket.

Chopped beef brisket is a home run. Super tender, great fat/meat proportion, I could go on and on. There BBQ sauce goes well with everything - just the right amount of tang/sweetness. Pork ribs are really good too, but a bit less meaty than usual. There sausage is really awesome as well. I'd go back to this place in a heartbeat! The staff there are extremely friendly and it's a great atmosphere.

This is great BBQ. Lunch specials are a good price and plenty of food. Too full to try dessert, but they looked great. Staff very friendly. Nice atmosphere.

We visited because of the good reviews on their brisket and other meats. Based on the bar being set pretty high we were disappointed. The place is definitely clean. The staff is super friendly. The food is reasonably priced. The pork ribs were definitely overdone. Hard and dry exterior but the inside was tasty. The brisket was tasty. The potato salad was mashed instead of chunked. Their beans were really good with small bacon bits added.

I never tried brisket till here. And since then I have been on a hunt to taste brisket at other places. BLAH. None will ever match up. It has been a while since we have been. But out of all the states and trips. This was one of my favorite stops. On every trip we find a local hole in the wall place.... Just to feel like part of the community and this was it for us. Little bitty shack looking but the food. I would of ate on side of a cow pasture it is that good! The people who wore here make you feel like family. All nationalities didn't matter we sat down and the whole place you can hear...OMG or yum.

This fabulous bbq restaurant is a few miles from the center of San Antonio and in a nondescript neighborhood. So locals rule the day. The beef brisket was the most succulent I've ever had--by far.

Great BBQ on an equally bad part of town. Old school feal deal Barbeque.

We just happened to stop in because we were in the area and had a wonderful lunch! I ordered the ribs and they were meaty and had the perfect smoky taste. I chose potato salad and coleslaw as sides and both were also good. My friends had brisket and chicken and were very happy with their choices too. I would definitely eat there again if I am in the area. It's a very casual and rustic atmosphere where you order and pay at the window and then they call your number. The dining room was clean but also rustic.

The cooks were super nice and gave fabulous greetings as we came in. It's very basic BBQ and pretty darn good. The brisket was definitely the best! Although I also enjoyed the ribs and chicken. The meals, with 2 sides, were about $12-$14 and worth that price.

One of my favorite BBQ places. Definitely the best in the area. I'll stop back the next time I am in the area.

I was in San Antonio two times with-in two weeks and the place was always closed. And I was really looking forward to trying it!! When by at lunch time, closed! went by at dinner time, closed!

Not the best BBQ in Texas but the best in the area. The brisket was a little dry but nothing that the BBQ sauce can't fix.

I like to visit a restaurant at least 3 times before I make my final review, and we have been to the Smokehouse 7 or 8 times in the past two months, and I can say that the BBQ there is consistantly excellent. We weren't crazy about the ribs, but the brisket is thick sliced and juicy, and sausage is wonderful. Prices are good too. If you are in the area and looking for some good Q, try the Smokehouse, you won't be sorry. My wife says the womens room desperatly need an update.

Went there on recommendation of the BMT Instructors from Lackland AFB. They were right on! With four of us there we shared a bit of all the meat we had. Everything had great flavor even without the sauce. But the sauce was just outstanding! And the sides closed the loop on an excellent meal! Thanks to the staff who are most friendly!

Ordered a beef brisket and just loved it.. The flavour was right, the meat was amazing , great potato salad & corn.. The staff was very nice and. Service is very efficient.. Thumbs up!!!

We went to San Antonio for a fun "eating" weekend. Alternated between BBQ & Mexican food. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this place. We wanted "good" not fancy. It was about a 10 minute drive from our hotel on the Riverwalk near the museums but would have been worth an hour drive! The place is somewhat of a "hole in the wall" (good sign), and evidently they started as a Food Truck. They even offered BBQ Lamb! I had the ribs and hubby and the 3-meat sandwich. We were in heaven, such a smoky taste, we didn't even need the sauce. It was so good, we came back and this time had the ribs, sausage and brisket and we loved all of it. The side dishes are just okay, I liked the corn on the cobb but that was pretty much the only side dish I cared for. But the meat more than made up for it. Staff is very friendly and will let you taste the meats before you decide. I'm such a fan of ribs and while we rarely go back to visit the same area, we'd definitely consider returning to San Antonio for another eating weekend that would include The Smokehouse!

I'm a big fan of ribs. I was tempted by the rib plate special which was just okay. I am a lover of coleslaw as well and this one was a little too chunky and watery. The potato salad was warm and lacked flavor. I was disappointed with this meal.

Made the trip to the smoke house & OMG !! That brisket and sausage was really really good. I'm will be coming back for more real soon. They got some home made sweet potato pie that's delicious & there ice tea is good

I have always said Luling City Market was the gold standard of Texas BBQ. However, the Smokehouse may have replaced it. The BBQ brisket was excellent with just the right amount of seasoning. like many BBQ spots in Texas the restaurant is not fancy. Did not try any of the sides as I go for the meat only.

We visit here often But it was so good this time it prompted another review, We were greeted by Larry, who was tending the pit. The personal welcome and cheery smile made dining just that much more pleasant. The Ribs were perfect as was the Brisket. The Pinto Beans were very tasty. Great Q homey atmosphere and just a down home fun place to have some really good BBQ.

We have been slowly working our way across the southwest in search of the best BBQ, trying to keep away from the "big names". Having read about the Smokehouse in an info brochure dated 2008, we thought we'd give this place a try. As we pulled into the parking lot, we noticed it was full of police vehicles... we're we stepping into a crime scene? Cautiously, we peaked inside the door, but no chalk outlines on the floor or bullet riddled walls.... Just a dozen or so local cops elbows deep in BBQ. As we reviewed the menu, we were surprised to see BBQ lamb! This was a first... had to try some. Minutes later, we too, were elbows deep in the most succulent brisket, sausage, and lamb shank you could ever imagine. Quantity and price totally made the gastronomic experience memorable and worthy of comment. There was lots of parking, even with what I expect is consistent support from the local Sheriff's crew, and the place is not had to find although not in the downtown core.... But the Smokehouse is definitely worth tracking down...this could become your best BBQ joint too.

all the meat tastes the same with the same over salted dry rub. Everything--ribs, brisket, chicken was over-cooked, dry and black. Not even the sausage was juicy. The potato salad tasted like they bought it from the local HEB grocery store. The pickled jalapenos are from a large can--fresh peppers are not available. Frankly, go to Bill Miller for a better value and better food without risking a break-into your car in this neighborhood--and I do mean--HOOD

Located just a few minutes away from Downtown San Antonio The Smokehouse is a great choice for Bbq. We were impressed with the flavor. My fiance had the brisket and sausage plate. She really enjoyed the flavor of both items. I had the brisket and chicken which was also good. Only thing this place is missing is cream corn but all in all it was very good. A hidden gem if you ask me.

My friends and I visited San Antonio from LA for the weekend and wanted BBChew so we found some of the best reviews were for The Smoke House and being close, we went. Oh my goodness, this place was heavenly!! There was a line to the door, several cash registers, a full size menu, smiles coming from every staff member, especially from Larry the smoke Master and the longest smoker I have ever seen, I ordered a brisket plate which came with two slices if white bread, onion and pickle slices and two sides for $8.45. I chose the cole slaw and potato salads. Oh damn! The brisket was the bomb!!!!!!! It was blackened on the outside and tenderly pink inside. So tender it melted in my mouth. So tender that a toothpick was not needed. The two salads were excellent and homemade with a touch of love to make one want to order a gallon to go. Hands down, this is the best smoked meat/ BBQ my mouth has ever tasted and I highly recommend it. Larry needs to set up shop in Los Angeles!

I went here with my wife by accident we ordered brisket and ribs as seen in the pic, now I've been to allot of BBQ places some better than others this one was okay I did not jump and shout man I've found a hidden gem, but I did not starve and for that I am thankful.

The ribs and brisket are wonderful. They have lamb as well if you want to mix it up.Still need to pave the parking lot but that only stops me from going on rainy days which we haven't had for a while. The sausage is the only down side. So I go to Gonzales Market on Rigsby. The same sausage as in Gonzales TX. And that's as good as it gets unless you're driving to Luling or Lockhart.

We went with a good of 8. a few of us had dry meat, others was fall off the bone Tasty . Smoked Turkey led was really good. returned dry meat and they happily replaced it with fresh.

We stopped in for lunch and got a brisket sandwich and a sausage sandwich, and an order of creamed corn It was nice. It was around 2:30 in the afternoon, on Saturday, so we were able to order and get served right away. We both loved the brisket and the sausage sandwiches. The meat was moist and the sausage was juicy and the creamed corn was very good. The sauce however was thin and lacked a lot of flavor, but overall the food we had was excellent. Won't hesitate to go back for more. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. My wife says beware of the ladies room. They need to replace the toilet seat.

Fantastic Ribs, Sausage, Brisket, good sides One of the best BBQ restaurants in a area known for BBQ. This restaurant has lasted and met the test of time. Must visit if you are a Q nut.
Good BBQ with sides & fast service
Had three sandwich plates with chopped brisket that was very good along with spicy cheesy corn that was also very good. Our group also had ribs and sausage that was tasty. We did a carry out and it took about five minutes from the time we walked in till our order was ready. The BBQ sauce was ok but maybe a little to much vinegar for my liking. The place was really busy around 12:30. Would definitely go back.
