My wife and I have Valentine's dinner at The Southern Gentleman (actually the 13th). Unbeknownst to us there was a pre-set menu. This was disappointing because we wanted to try several things on the main menu, but we rolled with it anyway. My wife had a Serrano Pickled Apple Salad which was good, but my Roast Beet and Goat Cheese Salad was better. The wife had Sorghum-Bourbon Lamb Ribs as her second course, which were amazing. My Sweet and Salty Razor Clams weren't that great. For third course, I had the Petite Filet, which is always good, and Jessica had the Wild Rive Risotto which was average. Desert was pre-selected Red Velvet Cremeux which was good but very rich. The best part of the night wasn't the food. It was the atmosphere and the Bourbon menu. Their selection of good bourbon would be hard to beat. I ordered a brand which they were out of, and as a result, the Manager gave me a sizable glass of E.H. Taylor small batch for the same price. We will go back when we can try the regular menu. In all it cost around $250.00. A tad much for a pre-set average menu.

Great dinner with friends. Heavy appetizer menu, not so many entrees. Had the crab dip appetizer and trout entree, very good. Service with Julio was great. Bar service with Nick was good too. Had a good guitar player with music at the bar. Great place, would definitely return. Good atmosphere inside and out,

I knew something was up when the hostess tried to seat us (two adults, two children) at a hightop by the bar near the front door....we asked for a real table, and got seated on the "heated" patio. It was not comfortable and very loud out there. About 10 tables total that are all patio furniture, not dining tables and chairs. To be clear: there are more bar tables and bar seating than there are "dinner" tables. If you count the outdoor patio area, there are about 15-20 tables total for "dining". This is a bar that serves food, period. The menu is very small at one page. We had the bacon deviled eggs, which are just deviled eggs with bacon sprinkled on top, disappointing. We had the "TSG Pimiento Cheese" and every other chip was stale. When we told the manager, her reply was, oh, that's weird - she did not offer us more chips or anything other than her unprofessional comment. My kids shared a burger. It was "ok" but quite greasy. I had the shrimp and grits. Let me tell you, putting bbq sauce on shrimp before adding it to grits and the pepper-tomato mixture is a really bad idea. Too many competing flavors. My husband had the "shrimp boil" It had a good amount of seafood but was not very flavorful. We will never go back.

We (four) came for brunch on Sunday. A very interesting/unique menu, but very tasty. All dishes were excellent and well presented. The service was almost perfect. For us, one mistake, we came early 11:00 AM and were not able to stay long enough to try a Bloody Mary. Next time. The Banjo player was fun and played/sang exceptionally well. One other note, come hungry as the portions were large. You will not be disappointed.

Interesting variety of items offered on brunch menu from carmelized waffles to shrimp and grits. All items ordered were delicious. Service was very good. Traditional bloody Mary's and mimosas but large number of additional drinks available as well. Prices were reasonable.

My wife and I took our daughter and her husband to dinner while in Atlanta. We found the restaurant very loud, they liked the cool vibe. We all had burgers and all felt them to be average and expensive. The cocktails and drink selections were fun. The wait staff and hostess were extremely nice and helpful.

We visited here for brunch on New Years day. We had a lively server, that took excellent care of us. The meal was delicious, but portions are very large. Next time, I would share two entrees for four people. Definitely order the Cinnamon roll, it was delicious. Being from out of town, we didn't realize you could not order a drink until 12:30 pm on a Sunday. So keep that in mind, if you are going for brunch and want an adult beverage.

Friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere. Great drink selection but the servings were small. The deviled eggs were a highlight. I ordered the fried chicken, which had a nice crust but was dry. Overall, a nice dinner but don't know if I would return.

It's the appetizer menu. This place would rock if it just had... Bacon wrapped scallops with bourbon glaze? Pimento cheese deviled eggs? Fried something with a white BBQ dip? I couldn't find a thing I wanted to eat.. Great bar. Great decor. Great vibe. Great staff. Improve the ap selection and you'll be a five!

Enjoyed the appetizers and the shrimp and grits. Sadly, our waitress wasn't much of a service fanatic and that's a shame. We waited for every stage of the meal and it made for a bad experience. I'm understanding when the waitstaff is apologetic and actually cares but this wasn't the case.

There was three of us and each had a different meal. The trout meal was unimpressive with only half of the fish, the chicken dinner was said to be okay and the burger was also just okay. I thought the environment was a little loud, the seating a litte tight in some places ( some of the corner chairs and tables were so close, one could not help but bump the chair of the person sitting behind them). I thought the pricing was a bit high for what was served. The service was adequate at the time we were there. Advice to management: instruct the servers to answer questions about the food with an honest, "I don't know" instead of trying to make up an answer or give an inaccurate answer. Would not return for dinner.

We stopped in randomly not knowing anything about The Southern Gentleman. It was a slow lunch and we decided to sit out side to enjoy the 80 degree October weather! Great views from the outside seating area as well. We had the burger and the green tomatoes BLT and the food was tasty. Service seems to be the drawback here, as it was lame. I would go back to enjoy this place as a drinking evening. The menu of whiskey and bourbon was pretty impressive as too were the prices! Check it out!

Very interesting menu, based on traditional southern dishes which were worth a try and very tasty. My southern friends, GRITS (girls raised in the south) tell me they are excellent. The only slight issue was that as two women in the restaurant we felt slightly uncomfortable with the large groups around us, not sure why as usually this is not an issue...

We visited Southern Gentleman for my birthday weekend. We were in town from LA, and our friends had recommended this restaurant. As we waited at the bar, 3 bartenders all had asked if we had been served within a minute of sitting down- talk about great service. The hubby has an Old Fashioned, and I had a Moscow Mule- both made to our liking. This place is known for good whiskey and they did not disappoint. For dinner the restaurant had live music. Be sure to order the bread basket. We fought over the jalapeño biscuits (to die for)! I ordered the shrimp and grits and the hubby had fried chicken with Mac and cheese and collard greens. All were divine except we both have had better mac and cheese at other places. Our server, Callum, was very attentive, sweet and helpful. He sent over bread pudding on the house for dessert. The manager Holly came over a couple times to check in on us and even gave us coupons to use next door at their sister restaurant Gypsy Kitchen. Lastly, I had realized I had forgotten my credit card a couple days later and the other manager, Alex, mailed it to me. Great service all around. It is the epitome of how all restaurants should be trained in service.

We were staying in the area and the hotel concierge recommended this place. We didn't have a reservation and had a pretty lengthy wait but it was worth it. WE ordered the shrimp and grits which is a pretty good value for the money and is heavy on the shrimp which isn't usually the case. I ordered the hamburger which was very tasty. The food menu seems a little small, this is definite a place more for ambiance and drinking than eating. Overall, great place and we will be back soon.

Atmosphere and service was great. Food just ok. Had shrimp & grits, corn fritters and crab dip w/chips.

The Southern Gentleman is an elegant, modern, classy restaurant in Buckhead Atlanta, with a nice selection of southern foods, with a nice modern touch. The deviled eggs, Hoppin-John and empanada are particularly worth trying. It's possible to put together a really nice meal just with the appetizers and small plates. In our experience (been there a couple of times), the crowd is mostly a little older. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.

Had one of the greatest dining service experiences going to The Southern Gentleman this past week and it was all due to the manager Alex and our waiter Reece. We had gotten our flight canceled going overseas and had been stuck in the airport overnight the night before and were now stuck in Atlanta. When bringing us to our table, Alex asked us what brought us there and we explained that, in addition to the fact that it was my parents wedding anniversary. He was very kind in his responses and then proceeded to bring out a bottle of Prosecco on the house for us. Our waiter Reece continued with the great service and it was incredible. In terms of the food, we tried many of the small plates as well as the entrees and they were all delicious. Specifically loved the fried green tomatoes and the shrimp and grits for small plates and the fried chicken and the burger for entrees. It was all very simple but incredibly delicious. All in all an amazing experience!

Great outdoor seating and service. Limited menu but all the things we had were quite good. And reasonable. I will go back.

I tried TSG despite mixed reviews and I hate to say most of negative ones were correct. We had to wait 45 minutes to get our food and by that time I was starving. They did run out of certain appetizers so you may want to get there early for the full experience. The menu is also limited. Also, the orange juice is served in a shot glass so beware. I ordered the pancakes and they were okay, nothing special. The best thing about my meal was the crispy bacon. I later found out they just started serving brunch three weeks before my visit. Hopefully it improves but as of now I don’t have to go back.

A friend of mine visiting town recommended this through the name, We visited for a late lunch and the service was bit relaxed, adjusting to a crowd that was mainly out for shopping. The food options were good even though not our favourite ones. The bar and high tops were full and the vibe was overall good.

Super service and great meal. Had carrot soup and kale salad with lamb chops and flounder. Everything was nicely presented and very flavorful! Great creamsicle dessert and craft cocktails too! Will return

Visited here with a group of colleagues and enjoyed it quite a bit. We sat outside on the patio and it was excellent, albeit a bit loud. The bourbon selection at the bar was quite extensive, although they were out of a few of my favs. We had a buffet style meal because of the size of our group but the food was excellent and the service was adequate. The bar staff seemed to have a good deal of knowledge.

I saw an ad for this place on social media for months now and decided to visit for brunch. There is a parking garage but if you’re new to the plaza you’re likely to get lost as I did looking for this place on the 2nd floor. I had a reservation but they understood when I informed them I was confused searching for the steps to get there. Otherwise the ambiance is causal and I like the bar area. Staff and service was friendly. I had the banana bread French toast and it was absolutely delicious! My fiancée had the burger with the special bacon jam and fries. I didn’t get a drink since it was 1PM but needless to say I was impressed and will be back. I’d recommend for a nice brunch and will try a mimosa next time!

We had a wonderful time with our Saturday night dinner at The Southern Gentleman. The cocktails were beautifully prepared and delicious. The Blackeye Pea Fritters were outstanding - our favorite dish! Macaroni and cheese was great too, as was the pulled pork served on johnny cakes with fennel slaw. The mussels and hot catfish bite were good too. Alex, the GM, was very helpful in choosing some whiskey from TSG's collection. The noise level is definitely energetic. They will validate parking for the nearby garage.

We dropped in for a quick drink. Overall decent service with many options. The atmosphere was low-key and comfortable. We only had a quick snack so I can't comment on the overall food.

Visited The Southern Gentleman during a trip to Buckhead. We were luckily able to walk right in and find two seats at the bar on a Saturday night. The place was very trendy and cool and they had some wonderful acoustic live music. Our bartender was great - very attentive and quick. Would definitely recommend!

My daughter & I tried this restaurant. Stephanie was waitress assigned to our table. She was kind to us but once we ordered drinks & appetizers her mood completely changed. She ignored us & had to ask another waiter for water. When she did bring something to our table she dropped it so heavy we were actually a little scared of her. I have never been treated in this manner especially in a restaurant! Definitely, wasn't feeling the Southern vibe! Food was okay. Corn Fritters were warm like they had been sitting out for awhile & crab dip okay. Won't be back.

Food is good, fried chicken was cooked perfectly. Side of gravy and hot sauce were great. Dessert and wine were good as well. Patio is wonderful!

Banana foster toffee waffle comes with bacon... Plenty of bacon. Yum. Service by the whole staff was terrific... Especially Nick. Banjo & bacon.

Tremendous bar staff. Great selection of bourbons. Our bartender provided samples and discussed each. I would have given a 5 but when we got to our table the waitress confused our next round if drinks. Food was good. Ww started with the corn fritters and pimento cheese and finished with the half chicken with collards, shrimp & grits, and mixed green salad. Very loud at the tables which probably contributed to the drink mix up. Definitely will be back!

We were seated in the glassed in terrace area and we truly couldn't hear each other. The food was decent, but nothing oustanding. We were there for brunch and the menu was pretty limited. I might try it again but would request a seat in the main dining room.

Service was good, food was terrible. Chef is the problem, the small menu makes it so the Chef will cause this to close in months. Best thing about TSG is that it is very close to Shake Shak

It's a really cute restaurant - great bar scene, and hip ambiance. We had reservations and were promptly seated at a table outside on the patio. Food was good - highly recommend the seafood dip and bread pudding dessert. My husband and I shared the ribeye for 2 and it was good, not great. Some of the meat was tough. Beer was good. My cocktail was unappetizing - too thick - called Flip the Pig, would not recommend. Service was lackluster to say the least. Our service forgot about us at least twice. The table next to us had the same experience. Our waiter told us my drink would be right out (after a 10 minute minute wait), then after a few more minutes he returned to ask me again what drink I had ordered ... he clearly had forgotten to put it in. All-in-all there are so many more great restaurants in ATL that we're unlikely to return.

Good atmosphere. Great bar staff. Lively crowd and good music. Food is available but I only had drinks.

We just loved the food-the Red Fish is wonderful. The service was also great-the manager checked on us a couple of times. Not so sure about the set-up. We were seated near a side door and were disrupted a couple times to close the blinds, open and close that side door. Maybe move the table away from the side door? Also its time to replace the white upholstered chairs-the stains and hair attached like velcro are unappealing. I'll go back for the food.

The cocktails were great (the blend of Carpano Antica and Punt e Mes makes for a sophisticated "East of Hudson" Manhattan), our waiter was friendly and exuberant, and the atmosphere was understated and elegant, but ultimately a restaurant is a place for food and the food was disappointing, especially the tough-as-leather Georgia trout. (On a much less important but slightly annoying point, after getting home we got an email from OpenTable saying the restaurant cancelled the reservation we had made on the OpenTable app, even though we checked in when we arrived. Perhaps doing this saves them a small fee?)

Lovely Food. Large and moist pork chop. However the cornbread tasted like pumpkin bread. Beautiful people, City chic.

By far the best restaurant as far as service and food goes. Makiya was excellent and answer any questions we had about the menu. Very accommodating for a large party. Top tier

Cute spot in Buckhead Village and cool vibe. However the food was good but nothing spectacular. I did like the flight of mini mimosas they had on Sunday brunch menu. Ordered fried green tomatoes over pimento cheese. Salmon on toast and mushroom omelet. Like how the inside decor looked and saw a crystal chandelier. Would like to visit this spot in the evening to see if the vibe is different or the same. Parking on the street or valet. Restaurant located on 2nd floor.

I've been to the restaurant twice. The first time I really enjoyed the food and the drinks were wonderful. This last time, not so much. Drinks were still good, but the food was a disappointment. We ordered some of the same things as before, but they came out looking and tasting completely different. Not sure what that was about... maybe a different chef? Anyway, not a bad restaurant, but not a favorite by any means.

We went here for lunch on a recent Saturday. All three of us really enjoyed the beet salad. The crab appetizer was not quite as good. Two of us got the burger, which was phenomenal. The fries were not nearly as good. My wife got the shrimp salad which she really enjoyed. Our server was extremely helpful and friendly.

his place has a great atmosphere with a touch of class that even a native southerner can appreciate. The food is trendy southern and most items are prepared with ingredients sourced from local farms. Delicious. It is advisable to make a reservation if you plan to eat. The restaurant is usually packed, particularly in the bar, which is roughly 3/4 of the restaurant. Even with the crowd, you'll have no problem getting a drink. Chartreuse anyone? They've got it on the menu. I was thrilled. That's a drink you won't find many places outside of France and Switzerland.

Service needed some improvement. That said, there was an impressive list of bourbons. We ordered a couple of flights for tasting. The food was generally well prepared. The seafood dip was excellent. Fried chicken, while cooked perfectly, could have used more seasoning.Mac & cheese was nicely done and the braised greens were incredibly good.My wife devoured her spaghetti squash and our guest raved over his ribeye. We also ordered bread pudding which came warm with ice cream was terrific.

They have the coolest dishes here. It was very laid back southern charm. The waitstaff was nice and the outdoor seating very enjoyable.

This is an excellent restaurant. The red fish dish had lovely delicate flavors. Came on a bed of crab infused whipped potatoes. Delicious. Even the cauliflower was good. Cauliflower is just a cabbage with a college education, but this was good. Nice atmosphere and good service. I recommend.

Nice setting, friendly wait staff, limited menu, We were there redeeming a coupon and were surprised by the limited entree listings. The listings for appetizers and libations were quite extensive and the setting had extended outdoor accommodations which is great for a hang out place. So if you're going for a great dinner, maybe this might not be the place. If you're going for a meeting place and drinks and appetizers, then this is a great place.

Just had brunch at the Southern gentleman. I really wanted to like it, but I found it underwhelming. Our service was really bad, I would say the food fine, but nothing special. Also, the website talks about all their Covid and social distancing measures, but there was absolutely no social distancing of any sort inside the restaurant---no extra spacing place between tables/customers whatsoever. We sat on the patio, and the tables might have been 6 feet apart, but could have been better. I certainly wouldn't go back based on the current safety measures, but the experience overall was not great and for the price, I'd expect a lot more.

Visited here on short notice on a Wednesday evening and had the most wonderful meal. We had fried green tomatoes and hush puppies to start, and buttermilk fried chicken and shrimp and grits for main. Everything was amazing, as were the cocktails we had to accompany the meal. Our server Michelle was super friendly and helpful too. There’s nothing we could fault about this restaurant, highly recommend a visit.

I ordered the fried chicken greens and Mac and cheese, it was $22 the portion size was pretty good but there were only about 7 items to choose from on the menu. The drinks were pretty expensive ranged about 11-15 per cocktail.

We had a corporate event here on a Friday evening for 140 people. Pros: Service team were phenomenal (asked for drink orders all night, friendly, took coats, passed food)-really top notch, bartenders make good drinks, space is hip and beautiful with windows all around, some of the food was good. Cons: as stated in other reviews, food is tasty but basic, upscale southern bar food. If looking for a cool southern atmosphere is this hip area which is above street level with views toward Peachtree and shops of Buckhead plaza, try it out.

Went here with friends for dinner and drinks and it was absolutely fantastic. Our server provided the best service I had ever received in a restaurant. Ever. I really enjoyed my old fashioned cocktail and the others in our group enjoyed their drinks as well. We ordered many things off the menu and all were really great. I had the fried chicken with greens and mac n cheese. It was all great. The homemade hot sauce was so dang good. I definitely recommend this place and cannot wait to go back!

Sadly, The Southern Gentleman was a disappointment. We had a large party of 12 and were in a semi-private room under the very large image of Mark Twain. The A/C basically wasn't working in this part of the restaurant and it was 85+ degrees at our table. The service was slow and not attentive enough to a party our size. The appetizers were fairly good, we liked the shrimp corn dogs and the pimento cheese best. The drink selection is quite good as well and they have an excellent bourbon selection. Unfortunately, the main courses were disappointing across the board. From the pork to the steak, we were not impressed. We made the restaurant manager aware of many of concerns (especially the heat) and to his and the restaurant's credit, they comped most of our very large bill. I would not recommend The Southern Gentleman for dinner, but it is a hot spot for the late 20s early 30s crowd. If you do choose to enter, I would only go for appetizers and drinks, not dinner.

Had a corporate event here, located in a swank plaza with high end shops - this restaurant location will not disappoint. True Southern flair, terrific menu and the food is a tasty treat. If your visiting Buckhead in Atlanta make sure you visit this spot. Parking conveniently nearby, excellent servers, and when you leave you feel like you have been to an event. Popular hangout on the weekends by the locals.

My wife and I went to Southern Gentleman on Friday day, we were not disappointed. All dishes were tasty and creatively thought of. We started with the sweetbread sliders and the foie gras stuffed quail. The sweatbreads were pretty good, maybe a little too fried. The quail was amazing, the foie gras was not too gamey...awesome app. For the entrees we did the beef cheek and the venison. Both spot on. The venison was some of the best I have ever had. The ambience is great, kinda hipster. Overall a great place to eat, I would recommend it.

Had heard of this restaurant from friends and had the opportunity to dine during Restaurant week. We loved it!!! The drinks were exceptional and the meal was delicious. The chicken & waffles were my favorite, and the cornbread... oh yeah!

We had brunch here recently on a Sunday and were oh so impressed. Our server, Stephanie, was informative and attentive. They have live music for Sunday brunch, which adds to an already cool and "eclectic" ambiance. Their brunch menu is quite creative, offering a number of tasty (and amply sized) options. The special seasonal mimosa was simply amazing! We had a whole carafe! My wife had the Monte Christo sandwich, which she said was the best sandwich ever! I enjoyed the burger. If you are in Buckhead, give this place a try!

Excellent upscale southern restaurant that offers a variety of small plates and main entrees. The service is top notch for the entire meal. The fried chicken with collards, biscuit and Mac and cheese was outstanding The portions are on the small side therefore if you enjoy larger portions you may want to get an extra side

We met some friends for dinner. We had a drink at the bar and then sat for dinner. The apps and sides were good. The entrees were good, not top of the charts but enjoyable. I had beef cheeks and probably won't order it again. Everyone else was more satisfied. Over all we will return, but not in a rush.

This is a great restaurant in the best part of Buckhead. The service was awesome. My favorite appetizer was the fried green tomatoes. First time having them. I’d recommend ordering them with about half the sauce they come with or better, sauce on the side. Fried chicken breast was the main of choice for the majority of us. Didn’t hear one complaint. The restaurant had a great vibe/ambiance. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and crave some really great food.

It was my first southern meal when I arrived to Atlanta, and my expectations were so high, especially when you go to such a fancy spot; but no Sir; the food was normal, maybe less than normal, the fried chicken tasted just like the ones you make at home with no prior marination, the staff are over friendly and I felt it was faked and exaggerated; won’t do it again.

Our group of eight business colleagues were accommodated in a separate enclave in this restaurant. The food is Southern with a few twists. For example, okra is grilled with garlic and spices. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is located in a high end shopping center and the ambiance reflects an upscale aesthetic.

We were in town and went here to taste some bourbons. It's is crowded. I recommend reservations. Although we did not eat it was a fun place to have some drinks It is modern and pulls a young crowd Good for large groups. Next time I'd like to try food.

Very nice new brunch menu. Highly recommend the multi grain bowl. Spicy, but excellent! Kudos to our waiter, Kevin. He is awesome!

I recently hosted a small business dinner and chose The Southern Gentleman based on a friend's suggestion. It has a nice atmosphere, very open, with very high ceilings. The waiters (all "southern gentlemen" looking) were efficient, attentive (but not overly) and all in all it was a pleasant experience. I had the beef cheeks which were very good, and everyone else enjoyed their entree as well. The side dishes (shareable) were somewhat disappointing, however, so they need to up their game on those. I would recommend a visit, great location in the New Buckhead complex.

The atmosphere was fantastic, but you are in Buckhead. The Fried devil eggs had no flavor, extremely bland and the presentation was awful. My wife enjoyed the shrimp and grits and my daughter's burger was good. I had the $46 filet. It is a shame to cover such a gorgeous piece of meat with what appeared to be leftovers, with something crunchy inside. Either it was uncooked blackeye peas or something else that made the dish not so appealing. My daughter never got her up charged mac and cheese. The waitress was lively and attentive. But I don't think I'll be going there again to eat. The drinks were on point.

My husband and I went here for my birthday in September. We went again tonight for my husbands birthday. I don’t know if it was because it was a slow night (Monday) or what but this genuinely not only sucked but we experienced the worst service we’ve ever had in our history of dining. There was a dark super long hair baked into the rolls we ordered. I bit straight into it and had to pull the hair out of my mouth. Saw it was baked in through and through the roll. As we watched our server sit at a table and stare at us for the longest he finally came out when our entrees were ready. We told our server and he looked me straight in the face and said “it looks blonde” very accusatory as he laughed (I’m long blonde). I ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY had to pull the hair on both sides of the roll to prove I wasn’t lying and that I didn’t just wrap my own hair around it. How dare you accuse someone of lying like that. Once I “proved” it to him -NO APOLOGY THE ENTIRE DISASTER- he said “okay I’ll take the rolls off the bill”. He would not acknowledge the situation, alert the kitchen, or alert management even though he was very aware how upset I was. But had enough nerve to ask if we wanted dessert. We drove over an hour to celebrate my husbands birthday and this is the embarrassment we got. We’ve gotten better service at a cheap chain like Longhorns with better staff (who would actually alert their management to make it right after something as bad as that) while this place charges over $100 to snub you and make you feel horrible after. Would not recommend.

My daughter and I had a wonderful meal. We sat on the outdoor patio and had excellent service by Dustin who explained the menu and told us his favorites. We finally decided on the small plates of deviled eggs and crab dip and homemade chips and the tomato and georgia peach salad (delicious). For dinner, we shared the half fried chicken which was also delicious, but by then we were full so we brought some home. At Dustin's suggestion, we did squeeze in dessert - a blueberry handpie with ice cream. Yum. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and when we went to the free parking with validation (3 hours and you can also valet for $5), we realized that we had left our parking tickets on the table. When I returned to the restaurant, the table had been cleared. Not to worry - everyone jumped in to help. The hostess printed off another validation and a copy of our receipt and the manager followed me to the garage to see if we could use his all day parking pass. In the end, Bradley, the restaurant manager, arranged for the valet to take car of our parking and saved us $20. Thank you!

Decided to try the southern gentlemen for my fiance's birthday after we saw it profiled on atlanta eats. Made reservations for 830. When we got to the restaurant it was packed, but we didnt think anything of it because we reservations. We didnt get seated until about 920. The hostess was very apologetic and offered free cocktails and dessert. The food was really good. The appetizers were really good. We got an unexpected free mussel appetizer that was the best I ever tasted. We will definitely be back.

My visit was on a chilly Monday evening in January, but the spot still seemed Covid safe enough to visit. They have an extensive whiskey collection, so I had what turned out to be a great Old Fashioned. For food, I ordered the caramelized beet salad to start, and their fried chicken for my main. The starter was quite good, but the fried chicken was simply awesome. Overall, I had a great time here (with the possible exception of having almost too attentive service) - would definitely check it out again!

On a whim , tried Southern Gentleman last night. We sat outside and while the view wasn't amazing it was a pleasant atmosphere. We were there before the dinner rush so it was quiet but filling up as we were leaving. We had the corn fritter appetizer which was delicious ( on the sweet side FYI ) . For cocktails , I had the Scarlett belle which was refreshing . Husband had the pack of mules with bourbon ( you have a choice of alcohols ) and he enjoyed it . They are known for their wide selection of whiskeys but we did not have any this time . For our entrees , side note there are only 6 options - not a problem for me as I would have ordered any one of them but you may want to look before you go if you have picky eaters in your group , husband had the burger and I had the fried chicken. The burger was juicy and cooked to the correct temperature and he also really liked the fries. The chicken was boneless breast and had a flavorful coating. It came with macaroni and cheese as well as collard greens , hot sauce and gravy were on the side . I ate every bite of the mac and cheese but I don't eat greens so can't speak about those. We were too full for dessert but the options looked delicious . Our waitress started off blah but she picked up as the meal progressed. Overall , we would definitely come back here .

Walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night. Managed to snag two seats at the bar and began with cocktails. S had the Old Fashioned on tap, which was outstanding. B had the Monk in a Cherry Tree, which is their take on a Last Word (it's red, not green and a tad sweeter). The restaurant has many Louisiana style items, and since S is from Louisiana I was hopeful that he wouldn't be disappointed. We began with the fried deviled eggs and boudin balls. Our bartender did not know how to pronounce boudin, but I think she was new. Anyway -- boudin balls are some of our favorite things. These are not your typical Louisiana boudin balls. Think more gourmet. They're pretty good. The deviled eggs were unusual - a fried yolk on top of a piece of boiled egg. This was my least favorite dish, but S loved them. We also ordered the meat pies, which were my favorite dish, but S's least favorite. I think he was expecting a larger pie, more along the style of Natchitoches meat pies. We also shared the cochon, which was excellent (not as good as the cochon dish at Cochon in New Orleans, but very good). We had nice conversations with the bar manager and even enjoyed a complimentary digestif on the house. The space is absolutely gorgeous, very comfy bar seats, and definitely has that "Buckhead air" about it. The service was far from snooty, but there were many patrons in the restaurant who were clearly there to impress someone?? anyone?? If you're from ATL, you'll know what I mean. Prices are about what you'd expect in Buckhead. Portions are about right. Bottom line is this -- it's very hard to find good Louisiana style food in Atlanta. I think this is as close as we'll get. Different, more gourmet, but still very good. We will be back!

For the last night of our USA holiday we ventured to this restaurant and were not disappointed. My main course (Pork chop) was excellent and the dessert equally good. The location is nice and service was very good. Portion size good also!

This is my second visit to the upscale Buckhead Village eatery. Lovely second story patio on a gorgeous Atlanta evening. Buckhead Village is a happening place! Lots of activity with tourists and window shoppers. Valet parking is available or deck park on your own. Libation selection is excellent - this is, after all, a gastropub. Martinis and Manhattans excellent. Scallop risotto appetizer is good. Fried Georgia trout, braised beef cheeks, shrimp & grits excellent. Service is prompt and friendly. Wine recommendation was very good. Reservations were honored quickly - we were seated early! Manager checking every table throughout the evening was a nice, friendly touch. On a beautiful night in Atlanta, it's a great place for a leisurely dinner. We'll return again.

Love the location. Shops at Buckhead upscale retail area! Bartenders very hospitable as you would expect. Bourbon and whisky list is top notch. Music is also good. We were just there to check itout and have a drink. Will I Go Back? Yes. Next time in Atlanta we will come in for dinner!

I went for a Saturday dinner while on business and it was a very good time. Off top, very good sweet tea. I got the Cheddar Pork Rinds as an app and the server didn't quite explain it the right way. He said pork rinds with cheddar on top. It was more like Pork Rinds covered in Snack food cheese (LIKE Cheetos) It was fine though. The Fried chicken was plenty enough for one person. The buttermilk flavor was so good. Tastes like they soaked it all night,..which was a good thing. All in all, the service was great and the atmosphere was cool.

First of all it was hot as hell and the hostesses looked lost. They said the air was on the blink and needed to be fixed on one of the hottest days of summer which is Father's Day. Next the table was half set with just 2 silverware and 2 napkins when there was supposed to be a seating for 4 next to the door of the patio where some more heat was coming in from the patio which was not good but the seats for the table tops were great to sit in great chairs even for the short people lol. Next was the food and drink orders the food a little pricey but those darn BBQ pork fried skins was sooo good for $4.00, I wanted to order more but didn't want to blow my appetite. I also order the pack of mules with vodka it was nice but nothing to jump over the moon about. Next was my burger, which was good and very different with pimento cheese and oxtail marmalade and green tomato and aioli, I know a lot to go on a burger, but it was a cool combination. The mac and cheese was not so good. Shredded smoke Gouda and other cheese throwed on top of some boiled noodles does not make that mac and cheese that was a oily mess that I did not finish for $10.00. Now what I can say is they honor my husband plate by changing it from shrimp & grits to the burger which was also taken off the bill, and he later at home so thank you. Over all rating would be a 5 out of 10 but I don't think I will be back unless I go for those skins thanks SG..

I arrived early and sat at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and let me taste the wine before he poured the glass. They seated us promptly on time for our reservation. The menu has so many great choices that a lot of our table split entrees just to try more things. For starters we had the fried green tomatoes, cornbread and okra. All were good but the tomatoes were my favorite. For dinner I split the burger and the fried chicken breast - no bone. Both were delicious and I would order them again. The BEST thing on the table was the bacon jam. WOW was it different and so yummy! Dessert we had the salted Carmel bourbon bread pudding. The server was so friendly and we had overall great service. The manager stopped by to thank us and asked us about our meal. Top notch! I recommend a dinner reservation on the weekend.

Awesome service, sat at the bar and Logan made the best Scarlet Belle and Cotillion Cocktail for my sister & I. We enjoyed our Sunday afternoon at the bar

My husband and I dined at this restaurant on my birthday. Our server was fantastic and the food was good. We liked the atmosphere and the vibe.

We stopped in for Sunday brunch. The menu is somewhat limited, and most options are very rich and heavy. The omlet with oysters was well prepared, but the mustard sauce drowned out the other flavors. My husband said it was a great burger, but the fries were soggy. Loved being able to sit outside and the waitress gave us some great tops for the surrounding area.

My family and I had the pleasure of eating here during Christmas. Being a native of Atlanta, I was excited to see fried green tomatoes on the menu. DO NOT ORDER THESE ARE HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! Fried green tomatoes should be lightly seasoned and covered with flour. We ordered chicken collards and sweet potato cornbread. The chicken is a hodgepodge of something, NOT a breast wing or thigh. THE RATE IS ON THE FOOD, NOT THE SERVICE. THEY WERE AWESOME!!!!!! Anthony C

We visited this restaurant on a week night so it was not as busy as a weekend, yet we still waited over an hour for our food. The server (and manager) did apologize, and the food was ok, but we were more insulted when they offered us a complimentary dessert to take away, only to open it up at home and find one dry muffin (bearing in mind we were a party of two) with a side of sauce. I wouldn’t recommend.

@TravelNTings #TravelNTings So we had great service from the bartenders (really good mezcal mules!), but it was uncomfortably hot inside as if the AC was not working at full capacity. Enjoyed the bread, fried green tomatoes, seafood dip; however, the fried chicken was a generous portion but lacked in seasoning for our taste, the Mac n cheese was just ok, and we did like the greens. Our table mates had a really good looking ribeye and pork chop that was devoured, so maybe we’ll try those the next time and move the star up one level.

Enjoyed our great waitress Brandy along with our delish entrees. The location is in the buckhead shops where you can enjoy 3 hours of free parking when you get your ticket stamped at the restaurant. We enjoyed the southern fried chicken sandwich along with a seafood appetizer and a Monte Cristo sandwich as well.

Food was excellent here. Had the fried chicken with greens (very southern) and wasn't disappointed. The bourbon selection was one of the best I've seen. Desserts out of this world. Great place to have business meetings or casual dinner.

1st, did not have a chardonnay that we wanted, so the manager (I think) asked us to try another wine, no one could drink it, too sweet, I would think a restaurant of this caliber woud know how to recommend a wine so then she brings out one that needed to be chilled, sat the bucket of ice on the table with the hot wine in it. Now dinner is being served and we are waiting for the wine. Courses were coming at a rapid rate. Deviled egg was hard as a rock, scallops were fishy smelling so no go there, crab louie was crab meat with tons of mayo (this is not crab louie), pork wrapped in bacon was so dry, couldn't eat it but bacon was good. My grandson's chicken fingers were burnt, hard and so dry he couldn't eat them. When they came to the table, my son said they needed to change the oil. The other guests who had the short ribs said they were good. Not once did someone come over to the table to ask how our dinner was. We are all in the food service business and I will tell you, this was one of the worse experiences I have ever had. You would think that a restaurant's New Years Eve wine list would be ready. Told they only had 2 Chardonnays?

Conveniently located in Buckhead Village, The Southern Gentleman keeps pace with its surroundings by offering delicious fare in a fun environment with knowledgeable staff. While many restaurants today offer "high end" traditional Southern fare, The Southern Gentleman manages to combine the homey nature of the food with culinary excellence. My wife and I began with cocktails - She's a Peach and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - both of which were very good. We also had sweet tea, which was delicious. Our appetizers were deviled eggs and steak tartare - the tartare was some of the best I have recently enjoyed, with a genuine, prominently beef flavor. My entree was a rib eye, prepared perfectly, and my wife had a similarly well-made pork cutlet. For dessert we enjoyed the delightful chocolate cake and the blueberry buckle. Our waiter was excellent and very helpful in selecting our meals - it was a pleasure to chat about the food with him. The atmosphere was lively and loud, which added a festive mood. I am also glad that The Southern Gentleman validates for two hours of parking in the nearby deck. I highly recommend The Southern Gentleman for those who desire quality Southern fare made from the best ingredients in a business casual eating environment.

We dined here for Saturday brunch and had a very enjoyable time. Loved the setting with great service, made my husband's birthday a fun and memorable occasion.

Was in Atlanta for the weekend for a dance competition. We did not have much free time but wanted to have a nice authentic southern dinner and chose The Southern Gentleman for our Saturday night dinner. Place was hopping with activity, it had a vibrant bar scene with live music but the dining section allowed for nice and quiet conversation. Food was amazing and the service was top notch. We had the steak for two with hunter sauce that the chef recommended and it was so so good. It was a terrific way to spend out one free night in the city.

Wow-- just took three clients to the Southern Gentleman. We had a meal that was memorable due to some really creative ingredients and was amazing. Thank you Southern Gentleman-- impressed.

What is it with these trendy restaurants. They spend a fortune on the design and construction then they don't execute! The food was unremarkable except Devilled Eggs which were great, the drinks were under poured and overcharged, we were at the bar and the managers were so in their own world chatting to staff that they never noticed customers with their hands up! Not a place worth visiting and so far from a Gastro Pub, more a trendy restaurant!

My friend and I visited this location one Sunday in February. I visited the website to glance at the menu before booking a reservation, but when my friend arrived that Sunday afternoon they were only serving brunch and that was not stated on the website. We opted to leave and return for dinner. Every menu item is prepared when ordered. So it was a little hard to be patient between courses, but the food was amazing. Prepared and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is definitely eye-catching. Very light and soft colors. There is the option to dine outside, but it was a bit chilly outside that day. The atmosphere was relaxed and the waitress was very nice accommodating.

This is a great place. We have been several times. Brunch is a favorite, especially the french toast. Lunch the brussel cezar salad is fantastic and different.

Came for a quick sting, mostly a bar with some table seating. The beer was good. It was crowded. Service was average

Restaurant in the heart of Buckhead with a lovely outdoor dining area, which is great for evening drinks and a meal. The drinks had good options - bourbon, Moscow mules, wine. Food was also solid- split Brussel sprouts, mussels, okra. It's a good choice in the area.

Very classy place. Don't go there if you wanna get drunk. This is a super place to take your girl or spouse for nice drink and dinner. Disappointed that we didn't eat as the guys wanted to go to a bar nearby. Am sure the food would have been delightful.

We received a gift card to the Southern Gentleman, and it was a highlight of our trip to Atlanta. The staff was outstanding, and the food even better. I wish we lived closer--it would be one of my favorite places to go!

Went for brunch. Menu is limited but good. I had an egg and cheese croissant. I was told this restaurant doesn’t have mayonnaise. I mean what? We’re in the south! My husband had short ribs and they were amazing. Our server (Sterling) let us know they were very short handed but you’d never know. Service was spot on.

We took a day off from our convention in Atlanta and headed to Buckhead. We ended up at The Southern Gentleman and stayed most of the day. We had the most wonderful server, as was everyone else who worked there. I ordered a drink, never having one before and I didn't like it. I sent it back and ordered another and fully expected to pay for the first one and they said no way! They also paid for our second round of drinks just because!! We ate and drank some more, one of the best places we went to in Atlanta.

Was a good atmosphere and good food. Reasonably priced. Only had two apps but both good. Pimento cheese dip was amazingly good!!!

It was an interesting bar with great, friendly bartenders who make interesting drinks! The food is also very different and delicious!

With that kind of ratio, it can't be all bad. The drinks are amazing. The Pool Boy was a combination of liquor, cucumber, grapefruit, jalapenos with very little simple syrup. It was good, but a real bite of jalapeno and definitely not sweet. The Monk in a Cherry Tree was gin, chartreuse, cherry syrup, lime, and soda - a perfect combination and not too sweet, definitely boozy! The Raeburn chard was really a nice oaky chard. But we did go there for food, which was excellent. The charred okra was a winner as was the smoked trout and vidalia onion dip. I have to say I was not impressed with the cheddar biscuit and ham, however others enjoyed it. I thought the biscuit dry and ham too chewy. They brought out an extra dish - the beets with herb cheese bread with a pistachio vinaigrette - really nice! For entrees. Maybe the best shrimp and grits. Super creamy grits, wonderful seasoning in the sauce, and lots of shrimp. I had the trout, which was OK, but not great. Maybe I was comparing it to the amazing trout I had recently at Gunshow, but it was dry - although a really nicely crisped skin. The heirloom tomato salad that accompanied it was rather a miss. The blueberry hand pie was delicious. The service was outstanding. We never wanted for anything, the server was very pleasant, so it made for a very nice experience. Loved sitting in the cushy upholstered chairs!!!!

I ordered the mixed greens salad which was supposed to come with "crisp ham". I was looking forward to this as I am assuming this was going to be their take on bacon bits. When the salad was delivered I I didn't see any ham pieces so with the server present I moved the salad around and inquired about the ham.He replied "the ham is infused into the vinaigrette dressing". Now this sounded very unusual and especially since the "crisp ham was listed as the first ingredient of the salad on the menu I requested to see the menu again. Once I verified this is what I read I asked the server to question the chef. The waiter came back finally acknowledging the ham was omitted for some reason from my salad. He removed this item from my bill because I had eaten my salad and didn't just want some ham on the side but it was very discouraging that he just made up something initially.

Another stop on our whirlwind tour of Atlanta and again not disappointed. Great drinks, great atmosphere, an outside are if you were so inclined and one of our best bartenders on our trip. Chris Garrity...I apologize if I spelled it wrong or I completely messed it up but He will now who he is. After he does the once over & figures you out....lol...he did not know what to make of us.....he was quite friendly, informative and a great conversationalist. Put up with my indecisiveness between Scotch , Whiskey & Bourbon and then gave us some advice on other places we shouldn't miss.....and to drop his name at our next stop on our adventure. Can't thank him enough. Would definitely go back here and pass up the outside to sit as his bar inside again.

I went here with friends before going out in Buckhead. The food was great, the service was nice, and the drinks were good. The broccoli salad was extremely delicious. The food was well priced, but the drinks were on the high side, although not unreasonable.

The bartenders genuinely care about the drinks that are going out. Carefully curated and expertly delivered! The fritters are a must have!!! Great atmosphere and safe and upscale area!

1st visit here and not impressed. The menu was limited so I got the Low Country Shrimp Boil. It was OK but I was shocked they charged $2 for an extra slice of toast. Tacky. It took awhile to get our food - way too long for a restaurant that wasn't busy. If you're in Buckhead I would suggest you can find a lot better restaurants than The Southern Gentleman.

A friend and I visited the southern gentleman for dinner on a sunday night. I found it to be loud ,hot and with no organization. The staff wore their mask under their nose and seem to be a bit overwhelmed. We had the oysters on the half shell and they taste like they were drowned in lime juice, the butter lettuce salad was just a bowl of lettuce with celery shavings and a hint of dressing. The main course wasn't any better the fried chicken left much to be desired and the lack of common condiments was beyond me. Considering how much searching it took for us to even find this place I thought I would be in for a treat but that was not the case.

Visited this place on a Friday night. It has a lively, spirited atmosphere. Young-ish crowd that enjoys good cocktails and good food. I was impressed that they had a flight of three High West whiskeys, which I eagerly ordered (@ $35). The table of Garden and Gun well-heeled hipsters next to us was ordering pitchers (yes, plural) of Old Fashioneds and having a grand time. Small plates were hefty and balanced the libations. Deviled eggs with bacon, ham biscuits, pimento cheese, etc. All just so and just right. I'd definitely go again. Also, a very nice general manager approached the table and asked how we enjoyed the experience -- and gave us discount cards to use for a future visit to their sister restaurant next door (Gypsy Kitchen).

I finally decided to give The Southern Gentleman a try in spite of poor reviews. It was a big mistake. It was a Sunday evening and I figured that southern fare would be a good choice for our guest in town from NYC. The food was awful: too salty, too greasy and not up to par for the price. The drinks were over priced and brought to the table late. The service was amateur. I had hoped that this restaurant would succeed but can't imagine it will stay open long. With so many great restaurants in Atlanta, avoid this one.

I went here on Valentine's Day with my husband for dinner. It is located in the Shops of Buckhead and they validate parking for the garage. It is a bit difficult to find, but located on the second floor right beside Gypsy Kitchen. We made reservations through Open Table and were immediately seated. I started with a Reformation beer and my husband had a Moscow Mule and both were good. For appetizers, we had the hummus, which was good, but it was quite small and only came with some veggie sticks to dip into it. For my entree, I had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with some sweet potato chunks. It was excellent. My husband, however, had the curry cauliflower and it was not good. It was so bad, he had to send it back, which is the first time I have ever known him to do that. When he sent it back, the manager immediately came over, apologized and said that they would replace immediately, which was nice. They ended up bringing him an order of the bacon wrapped beef tenderloin, which he thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, we ordered the coconut cake, which was so good. While we were waiting for dessert, another manager came by to ask how were doing and what we were doing for dessert. He said that the apple cobbler was so good and that they were going to bring us that, too, as well. They brought it out after the coconut and it was so amazing. You have to try it if you have not because it was so delicious. They were so on top of everything and really made up for my husband not liking his meal. The place is so nice and hip and the prices were fine. It was a truly enjoyable experience and I would recommend this place for a romantic dinner or small adult group.

Went for brunch with group of friends. While waiting for table and at the bar we ordered drinks. It took too long by typical restaurant standards to get served. After being seated the next round of drinks took a while as well and all did not come at the same time. Food was ordered and once again it was a long wait. everyone liked the food and it’s a nice busy vibe kind of place but somehow they need to fix the slow service. Whether it’s the amount of staff and /or the kitchen it needs to be addressed.

We wanted a place where we could enjoy the energy of a great bar/restaurant without too much noise to talk. The food was great, we never felt rushed, and the service was outstanding. We had a great night...enjoyed everything about it.

I went in expecting a bit more pub-style environment and food. You could almost call this a bistro-style. That said, overall good experience. Brussel sprout Caesar a bit cheese-heavy but very tasty. Calamari was a step up from traditional pub-friend squid-sticks with a nice texture and flavor (not friend). The friend half-chicken is unbelievable. Tender, flavorful, and cooked just right - probably not the healthiest thing but you don't go to a gastropub for health-first right? Drinks are a bit towards the pricey side, though not too out of place for the area that it's in, and the pours are strong. 3 hour validated parking in the garage too if you don't want to valet.

The premiere location, wonderful atmosphere and large food portions puts this restaurant at the top of most dine places in Atlanta. The patio was beautiful, and the free bourbon tasting on Father's Day was a welcomed, and nice touch. There's just one thing, the food is good, but when my eggs came out runny and the waitress noticed it, she did not offer to correct the issue or remove it from our bill. Overall, Southern Gentleman is a Southern gem. We will go back. Next time, evening cocktails.

Came to Atlanta for the one purpose of eating at Southern Gentleman and other gastropubs. Beautiful atmosphere in the building, comfortable seating, creative display of the menus. However, the food was just mediocre nothing had a wow factor in taste or presentation. We had: Monte Crisco, burger (med), chicken and waffles, chess pie, charred okra, corn fritters, seafood dip. The 3 of us agreeddd the corn fritters were one of the best dishes we enjoyed . Bringing back.memories of funnel cake with a grown up savory twist. The burger was good, the Monte Crisco was beautiful, the chicken and waffles was okay. There was little to no flavor in a waffle that was corn based with cheddar a d bacon Overall it was not a bad experience but not one I will repeat in the near future.

there is a first time for everything and the pimento beer cheese with cracklings surprised me rather good as well as the other we tried some sort of meat balls in a hot sauce. Wine pricey @ $55 a bottle but the shrimp & grits packed with shrimp, flounder stacked beautifully on spinach and the cochon unreal and delicious. Grits are like polenta in the family. Loved the atmosphere in this new gastro pub with inside & outside seating. Worth a visit!

My wife and I celebrated her birthday at The Southern Gentleman and had a great time. The service was great and the food was excellent. And since it was our first time at the restaurant and we were celebrating a birthday, they brought her a very nice dessert after our meal. I recommend the mussels for an appetizer and for a salad, go with the green tomato salad (this salad was amazing). For the entree, we had the special but I have heard that the shrimp and grits are excellent. We will definitely return here for another great meal, hopefully sooner than later.

Southern Cuisine. Cosmopolitan Setting. Visited on 316/2017. I love this place. It is sure to be one of my hangout spots. Cocktail: House Old Fashion "Phenomenal" Appetizer: Crab Dip "Excellent" Entree: Springer Chicken "👍🏾" Dessert: Chocolate Chess Pie "Perfect" Holly Baldwin, Asst Manager was quite pleasant and so helpful. She's a jewel 💎!!!!!!

We were seated at a table on the porch area next to the doors which open and warm weather. A ceiling heater nearby was very inefficient in keeping us warm. It was 40° and windy out. Our server was excellent and every regard. We ordered the Fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, and deviled eggs. The eggs were exceptional – the hush puppies were dense and the fried green tomatoes were heavily breaded and difficult to cut. The pimento cheese served with them helped their poor taste. I ordered the shrimp and grits – they shrimp were nicely dusted in Cajun spice – the grits were creamy – the tomato sauce surrounding these tasted like canned tomato soup. That was the worst presentation of shrimp and grits I've ever seen. The other members of the party had a cheeseburger, New York strip steak and fried chicken. Their dinners were excellent and they were very pleased. My only conclusion is to avoid the shrimp and grits and request seating in the main restaurant. Be aware of the fried green tomatoes. This is a very popular spot in upscale Buckhead.

We stopped in Sunday afternoon and very much enjoyed the friendly, attentive service that compliments the incredibly good food and the mimosa doesn't hurt at all.

I booked a Sunday brunch here for my husband's birthday with our teenagers. The food was not a good representation of "upscale Southern" and mediocre at best. We were served soupy omelettes, dry, thin, cold waffles devoid of any flavor, oily shrimp topped my salad, tough as shoe leather pork sausage and cold, mushy potatoes which were supposed to be hot and fried. The only decent item was the cheese grits but the ones at Corner Cafe down the street are much better. I had asked for my dressing on the side and it was, but the lower 2/3 of my salad was also drenched in it as if they screwed up, realized their mistake, threw some dry lettuce on top and then served a side of dressing as if to say, "There. She won't notice." I did. The salad and waffles arrived a good 20 minutes before the omelettes and as it was my husband's birthday and he had ordered an omelette, we didn't want to be rude and start eating. We inquired a couple of times and were finally promised, "The omelettes are being plated at the window right this minute!" We then waited ten minutes before one out of two arrived. The restaurant is on the second floor of the building so my husband joked that window must be in the basement. By the time the second omelette made an appearance, the grilled shrimp on my salad were ice cold and unappetizing. The waitress was upbeat and sweet but ineffectual. The harried manager finally got involved and comped the omelettes (we tipped on the original total because it wasn't the waitress's fault) but I felt like my husband deserved a birthday brunch do-over...somewhere, anywhere else.

It's slow during the week nights, but I'd recommend sitting up the bar if you're traveling alone. I do a lot of traveling for business and maybe it was just that particular night (they seemed slow), but the drinks were pretty good.

Located at the Shops of Buckhead, The Southern Gentleman is a wonderful venue. We decided to celebrate the birthday of a close friend and his wife and have the Sunday Brunch. The service was fast and friendly. I ordered the New Orleans Shrimp & Grits. It was quite delicious. I also shared the Ricotta and Lemon Pancakes....and they were fabulous! I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Our brunch was amazing. The fried chicken and skillet cake is honestly one of the best I have ever had. The cake is similar to a cornbread, but in a waffle like presentation and it is to die for! Recommend this so much. The only downside was sitting at the bar, because the host told us all the tables were reserved, even though 70% of them were empty from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left.

Nice and upscale place with very little strange food items. 1 page of food and 3 pages of alcohol beverages. The staff is not very experienced.

We were in town and stopped by for drinks. Jay, the bartender, was amazing!! He recreated a drink I had months ago, just by looking at the ingredients. Service was excellent, drinks were amazing, and appetizers were yummy. Stop by if you’re in town!!

I absolutely love the place. My experience was excellent since this was my first time. The atmosphere is phenomenal and the view is to amazing. It’s located right in the heart of shopping. I had the Buttermilk fried chicken and skillet pancake and my friend had the Pimento omelette with a side of chicken sausage. Both dishes was amazing. The chicken was very crispy and seasoned well. The chicken sausage was very tasty also. The ambiance in the restaurant was great. It’s beautiful inside. Our waiter ( I hate I forgot his name but he was a very very nice African American guy) and he was absolutely phenomenal. He made the experience amazing. If you park in the garage, although it show that it charges, if you get your ticket validated at the restaurant it’s free for the first 3 hours, but only with the validation. So this was a plus. Great location. I will definitely be going back.

We celebrated my husbands bithday with sunday brunch here. This is a great location with a fantastic atmosphere. The food and service was great. It can get a bit noisy with the live music. Overall it was a great experience.

The Sweetbread sliders were fantastic, but the bone-in NY strip for 2 was tough and flavourless. The service was friendly enough, but rushed and not attentive. The ambience was more suited to the bar patrons, rather than those wanting to have a dinner - a little too noisy and congested.

This was a great dining experience. Tyler, our waiter, was very personable and friendly and never rushed us to finish. The crab and onion dip appetizer was great but the peach and tomato salad was over the top good. It does get very loud when it's full but who cares when the food is this good.

Went with my husband, daughters & boyfriends and had a wonderful time having really cool cocktails & apps at this amazing restaurant! Just love the ambiance here, fun bar & the food and service is fantastic!

We had a very enjoyable dinner at The Southern Gentleman. I’d say they deserve a strong four-star rating, verging on five-stars. Everything we ordered can lumped into 3 categories: Five-Star (Excellent/Very Good): Braised Short Rib “Pot Roast” – amazingly tender and flavorful Sweet Potato Cornbread – so pleasantly sweet… could’ve been dessert! Pork Belly Burnt Ends – top notch, exceptional flavor and texture Four-Star (Very Good/Good): 12oz NY Strip – good robust taste 12oz Berkshire Porkchop – great flavor but could be juicier Mocktails (strawberry lemonade and blackberry elixir) – very refreshing Smores Chocolate Cake – Quite rich, just the way I like it Three-Star (Average): White Cheddar Hushpuppies – just OK, I’ve had much better Jiana also provided us with great service. We'll be back soon!

This is more of a trendy bar than a restaurant; however, the menu items that we did try were pretty tasty. The pork burger was very juicy and the Fried Oyster and Shrimp Po Boy did not disappoint. The deviled eggs were a must try.

After booking and calling to say we would be 5 minutes late, we were reassured that there were no problems. We arrive and the table isn't there. We point out how unbecoming their behavior is and the black girl who welcomes customers, with an annoyed expression, tells us that she doesn't know what to do. We are given another table (with stools). And we curse that we didn't leave. The menu is disappointing, little variety, banal dishes, cooked in an approximate manner. The place is very noisy and small, so you have to shout to be able to talk to the other diners. Slow and awkward service. High prices. In short, a real nightmare! TO AVOID!

Great neighborhood spot in Buckhead. Portions are generally huge and are a great value for the money. We had lunch and a Sunday Brunch there and found it to be quite nice. Service was very good as well.

So this place is just too cute! The outside seating is great and the bar looked very cool. Unfortunately that’s where the compliments stop. 1. At first impression, our waitress was going to be great-friendly and prompt, however it was all short lived. We saw her for the order and a few stops, but mostly she was MIA. She left our plates on our table for more than 20 minutes while we finished our drinks. And not surprising she got our checks wrong. 2. The food was just ok. And most importantly on Saturday with a reservation when they opened they were already OUT OF French Toast?! And while three dishes came out super quick, the final one-a corn waffle, came out 15 minutes after, delivered by someone else with no apology. I did have high expectations, but my frustrations with this visit were just good customer service and good restaurant processes. Nothing more. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Had a great experience today for brunch. Wine and cocktail list fun and inventive. Menu great...server Nick very educated on it all plus a huge genuine personality. We will be back soon.

I love Southern Living and often look up activities and restaurants recommended by them when we are in a different area from home. The Southern Gentleman was recommended in Atlanta. It was in Buckhead, so guess it would be considered trendy, but the food sounded good. As it turned out, I thought it was overrated at best. Most things were a la carte, so the bill added up quickly. We had a steak for 2 (which was delicious) one shared appetizer (nothing special) one dessert and 3 drinks altogether. The bill came to well over $100. Our waiter, who seemed friendly enough, wasted little time on us as he whisked by dropping off drinks or a plate here and there and snatching up things as it appeared we were finished, whether we were or not. I saved the last dregs of a drink, but lost the remnants of the appetizer. The entree was delivered by someone else. He did explain a drink when I asked. I don’t expect to have full blown conversations with waiters, because I know they are busy, and we like to enjoy a leisurely time together too. But you should not feel like you are an intruder in a place that costs so much and has “fancy food.” I thought maybe it’s because it’s Buckhead, but afterwards, we wandered down the street and found a beautiful Irish bar with a friendly bartender and some delicious looking food. I’d head there in a heartbeat if we ever get to Buckhead again. The Southern Gentleman was just not our type of restaurant, and I probably won’t be paying as much attention to Southern Living reviews anymore.

Loved everything! Get the Bourbon flight. Great way to start your visit there. I had the Flounder and my friend had the Duck. Excellent dishes and great service!

The Southern Gentleman is part of the resurgence of Buckhead at the Shoppes of Buckhead. Located above the Shake Shack, SG is a lively energized fun spot with an excellent bar and a fresh and modern food menu. It sort of a "foodie meets southern" cooking experience with a truly fantastic bourbon collection. You can get trout, venison and quail. Every combination of a protein with grits, all really great. It's very farm to table oriented. If you are looking for a steak, this may not be the place I would suggest. I am sure that their $45 new york strip is fantastic, but it is the only steak-steak that I saw on the menu and there are lot of other choices on the menu that are more in the $15-$25 range that are more unique and original. The thing I like the most about this restaurant and the Shoppes of Buckhead is the proximity to many great restaurants and bars. If you like going to one place for a cocktail, another place for dinner and then another place for something after diner or some live music, this is a location worth trying. I won't mention the other spots. Just look at any google map and it will show you the other places that are within walking distance Parking can be an issue if you haven't been to the Shoppes of Buckhead. We did valet parking. Cost was $7 plus tip. It's worth it. I don't think this is a very good place to bring children. There isn't anything for them to do or to eat and the tables and to close to each other for kids to be running around. So leave them at home. Our service was great too. This place is fun. I will definitely go again.

Dinner for two on a very warm autumn day in September. We could choose to be seated inside or outside and chose the latter and I don´t regret it even though it was warm as hell. The ice cold Mint Julep was the perfect start to the meal. Deviled eggs, GA shrimp & grit and fried chicken were all very tasty and so was the bread pudding for a sweet finale. Service was attentive and the southern accent from the friendly waitress who seated us did it for me; "I´m gonna take care of y'all". And so she did.

Nice family dinner. The bar has an excellent selection of whiskey. We brought a birthday cake and the readily arrange serving it at the end of the evening. We would certainly recommend.

dinner on a sunday evening. the restaurant was mostly empty. I can see why they need better front house management. waitress was decent enough. the food was OK but there are plenty of restaurants in that area for the same money that are much more friendly and accommodating. will not recommend nor will we go back.

This is a good spot for two or ten. My wife and I had dinner at this spot around 6pm, Shannon made us feel quite comfortable and welcome. Having vegetarian requests sometimes create a challenge, however Shannon and Alex made sure we had options. The large party in the more secluded area also seemed quite comfortable, and yet we experienced no distractions. The food was good and the service even better. I would definitely recommend.

The place is hot and muggy. I guess the AC was broken. Hostess needs customer service training. Despite having reservations, we were left standing off to the side, even though there were open tables. Management wasn't very helpful either. But worst of all a fly flew in our food.

We had a group of 8 for brunch and it was excellent food and excellent service. We had a baby with us and they were able to accommodate us without disturbing their normal patrons

We enjoyed a very nice luncheon with our family at Southern Gentelman. The food is very good and everyone had something different and enjoyed it.
This is no ordinary Gentlemen
Looking for some amazing flavors with great service and a beverage list that doesn't stop, come visit this Southern Gentlemen. Our meal was a crescendo of flavors that started with out appetizers and finished strong with our desserts. Every dish was delicious, perfectly plated and portions generous. The bar menu had something amazing to accompany each stage of our meal. Heath and Michael made great recommendations and we're always there when we looked up. This was great comfort food and a must visit when you visit Atlanta.
