Food was fantastic!

By Michele Z |

My daughter is from Haiti so we are always on the lookout for Haitian food. On our way through Atlanta, we stopped here mid-afternoon on a Tuesday and there was only one other table occupied. Service was fast and food was fantastic. I have had Pork Griot many times in other restaurants (even in Haiti) and it is rarely very good so I was a little worried to try it. I was so happy that I order it. It was delicious - crispy on the outside and not dry at all. The black rice was so good I could have just had a whole plate of that. Pikliz was super hot as expected which my daughter loved. Atmosphere was nice.

Nice, just nice though

My friends and I met up last night at the spice house. Most of us grew up in the old neighborhood and remember it as a full service gas station when we were kids. It's a new establishment so I don't want to be too negative and I want to support people wanting to do business in the hood, however this was not an "A" showing for this restaurant. Here is my experience, The parking is bad, very bad. They say they will offer valet soon using the CVS parking across the street but that can't happen until after 10pm. My buddy had lipstick on his glass. It happens I guess. There was 9 of us and we all agree it was probably a bit pricier than it should have been. I had shrimp and grits which were very good $18.99. My wife had hot Wings which she thought were dry. My buddy had blackened chicken pasta which I tasted and I thought was really good as well. He enjoyed it but thought it a tad bit too hot and caused it to take away from the taste. Another friend had hamburger sliders which came with no fries even though the waitress said they did. She was nice enough to bring some anyway. Fried green tomatoes were great but too much for just 3 portions. Blackened salmon was good according to our friend. At this time they don't have their liquor license but are expecting it this week. The ambiance is probably the best part. Very artsy inside and out. Great music to set the mood. I'm going to give them another shot and hope for a better experience.

Love it!

Great food

Service and food were good. Oxtails and black rice was really good. Highly recommended. Our server was great as we ate at the bar. Will be back to this place.

Amazing

By Carmelita H |

Absolutely amazing! The food was well seasoned. The DJ and live music were on point. The bartender, Rifa, did not disappoint on the alcohol. $10 parking was worth the price of admission. Was visiting from Florida. Will definitely be back again. Received this recommendation from our hotel bartender. The 30 min drive was worth our gas and time.

Too loud

By 2happi |

Music was pretty loud..difficult to hear and it was pretty crowded. Service was a bit slow however the food was very good. Enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, fried pork and orange cake.

A great place to eat drink and be merry.

Today I visited a local must visit restaurant in my southwest Atlanta community. It has a mostly Caribbean fare yet a very local feeling of ambiance. The staff and management were exceptional. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my companion ordered the jerk chicken. The tastes were magnificent and you get a lot for your money. I was served the house wine. I feel that the bar needs a larger selection due to what I believe is an excellent eatery/club scene that also in the day accommodates the family. It has outdoor seating with the smooth sounds of Caribbean music. I would say that is a jewel worth checking out for locals and those visiting the city. who desire this type of cuisine and atmosphere.

Needs a Little Work

They've got something but it's not quite there yet. I placed my order on UBER eats. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and bean and vegetables. The taste and texture of the chicken was good, but a bit salty. It was not grilled. I'm not sure how it was prepared. The rice was sticky and over cooked. I didn't like it at all. My friend had the shrimp and grits and said it was okay. I had the black bean soup which was tasty but strangely watery. We also had the fried green tomatoes which was supposed to come with a "Caribbean style corn relish", which sounds super interesting, but didn't arrive . When I called back the manager said he didn't know what to do. I said send it, but he didn't respond to that. Then he offered to take "something off" the bill. I said "take something off"? Take the order for the tomatoes off. To which he responded something like because of the sauce? And I responded what am I supposed to do? Put ketchup on it? Finally, when the UBER guy arrived I had asked if there were utensils in the bag? He said yes, but no!!! I would like to see this business do well. I think you have to be ready to do delivery right, because people are paying for a service.

Delicious food, yum drinks & great vibes at both Midtown and Buckhead locations! I love their salmon and lobster rasta pasta, rum punch, and great appetizers, too.

My Lunch Was Ruined!

By EB M |

Decided to come in for lunch with my Son, he had Chic&waff I had oxtails. Had to pray for the sacrifice of that cow so it didn’t die in vain! If I’m going to a restaurant that’s named Spice House Then give me that Flava u say u are. Our meal was a Bust ‍ highlight of the brunch great music and the waffles. Manager or Bar Manager is So disrespectful, unprofessional and just have no knowledge of how to handle a disappointed customer. All I said to him was that the food didn’t taste good ! He said the oxtails were cooked the day before and that they do not cook to please my palate. I was so pissed off when I left, went straight to the tennis court to hit some balls to relief my anger. For $19 I ate one bite off a tail and in my pic that’s what I returned back to the kitchen. Oxtails were dry, nothing juicy,no gravy, cabbages were like Soviet Union can goods with uncooked carrots, and the rice was just plain rice no type of Caribbean flavor was in my Dish!. Very disappointed and I told the Manager on duty he should have tasted my food so he could make a decision on if fact that the food was or was not up to there standards.

Fantastic Food & Great Atmosphere

By Jennifer |

My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant new to the area. Parking was limited however on this particular night, we were able to park quickly without a problem. The parking area was being monitored by security personnel; which was nice. On our way in, I was excited to see the grill outside and smell its aroma. Upon entering, there was a live dj playing a medley of music from soul, jazz, hip hop, 80s pop, and R&B. The atmosphere was soulful yet trendy and the decor interesting. The crowd appeared to be 30 and up friendly and well dressed. We visited The Spice House before their grand opening. They were days away from receiving a liquor license so the bar was unfortunately not yet set up and no drinks were being served. We waited a long time to be greeted by a server but once we were greeted, our server was great. We waited a long time for our appetizer and entree. But, the food was really good. I ordered the fried snapper and it was fantastic. My husband ordered a jerk pasta dish that was spicy and very good as well. We both enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and our server. We look forward to returning during the summer to enjoy drinks on the outdoor patio. We anticipate expanded parking options and less wait time to be greeted and less wait time for food. The Spice House is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. With great food and a jazzy atmosphere, we will be sure to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a soulful taste of spice.

Cascade was a bust BUT Mid Town

By NuRealUTravel |

Our group pf 9 with reservations outside was for 6:30pm. 1 hr our later we got out apps but still no drinks. After retrieving our own drinks from the bar and a brief discussion we placed a call to mid town location. Glad we gave The Spice House a second chance. The Spice House displayed service with a smile, speed with a sense of urgency. The food was amazing and the environment was the cherry on top. Mid Town you win hands down! We will be back for BRUNCH....

A must see eatery in Atlanta! Can’t wait to go back!!

By Whitney K |

This was truly an experience. The food and the drinks were amazing. The atmosphere was inviting. Everything on the menu looked delicious. I had the Rasta Pasta with Cajun shrimp and an order of fried green tomatoes. The food came out super quick. The food was piping hot and every bite was delicious. Some of the best food I’ve had in atlanta. The food and service were so good; I had to speak with the manager. I was glad to have the opportunity to brag about our server Jaz. She was phenomenal. The manager, Antwon, was also welcoming and inviting. Very helpful. We plan to go back this Friday as well!!! Highly recommend.

Buyer Beware!

By Audra L |

BUYER BEWARE! My husband and I went here and were thrown for a crazy loop when the bill arrived! First, they don't make any exceptions to their menu, so if you're asking to replace rice for something else (even if it's due to food allergies) they won't allow it and will simply take it off your plate but will still charge you for it (without simply adding vegetables instead). That's actually not the worst of it.... it's the bill. We are used to paying for great quality, so money isn't an issue. BUT, the waitress brought out a small machine and simply scrolled on the food items and then the final price. She did not say anything about additional fees being added to our final bill. For this reason, we believed our bill to be $176, which was high for what we ordered but we knew we ordered lots of drinks so we didn't mind. Then she leans over me again with her small handheld machine (she never lets it go) to show me the tip page where I select the tip percentage. I selected 20%, as always, despite her not being very nice and their not accepting exchanges on the menu. Then she leans over me once again with her machine to ask how I wanted to receive the receipt. I clicked text and typed in my number. It was at that time that I finally saw the entire bill!!! They charged only $136 for our food and drinks, but they ALSO charged (on the low... this was not listed on their menu nor was it mentioned by the waitress) 8.9% Fulton tax AND 18% Service fee!!! That brought our bill to $176, and then when I tipped 20%, our total bill came to $211!!! From $136!! Do NOT go here unless you are ready to be blindsided by their hidden fees! Typically, I've seen menus that provide you with notice of their additional fees. Not here! Once again, you've been warned!

Good food & spot away from the crowds

By sfscott4 |

Went on a whim. Needed a place to eat in the Cascade area before attending a play at True Colors Theater nearby. It was the perfect spot at 6pm on a Saturday. 98% of the patrons were over 40 and someone was celebrating a birthday. The atmosphere with the live DJ was louder than I like but the mood in the place was on point. To the food, we both had the salmon dishes which were good but the spicy egg rolls stole the show from the main course. The meal was well worth the cost. The only negative would be the limited parking.

Needs improvement

By CRLsrating |

Being Haitians, we have high expectations for restaurants that service Haitian cuisine. We ordered the red snapper. After digging in, we noticed that the fish was not fully cooked. We then ordered the griot instead. It was very dry, almost as if it wasn't fried fresh, and leftover. Adding the sauce did not make it much better. The crab cakes and eggrolls were good though.

Hospitality Sucks

By crystal b |

We made a reservation on Opendoor for 6:15pm only to find out from the server that they don’t honor reservations. This was after 15 minutes of waiting without being greeted/addressed. When the host finally got to us, she told us that it’s a long wait for food (1 hour) and to be served. The ambiance was great so we decided we were ok with the wait time for food. Only to wait another 30 minutes and still was NOT seated! She came to us again after 20 min to say she’s ready to seat us and then she left to take some silverware to the back and NEVER came back. After 10 minutes we got fed up and left. We had no problem with waiting but the server was not pleasant at all!

TOTAL DISASTER ... THE GM IS BEYONG GHETTO WITH POOR LEADERSHIP. Don't how to treat loyal customers

By Meme R |

A TOTAL DISASTER... I always & only" ordered "to go" from here, off & on for over 4yrs. Due to the location its accessible to me for "to go". Dines in @ the Buckhead location. Northside Dr is kool, experienced them once. Food is extremely tasty & delicious. My sister & I always order veggie plates, obsessed w/ the brussel spouts. Customer service was always great on the phone & in person. "Unique kool & sexy vide" Almost make you forget you are in the hood. One of my favs spots in ATL. NOT UNTIL THE NIGHT OF 3/13/24! I am in disbelief & HIGHLY OFFENDED. WORST experience EVER. Bothered I didn't record due to the nature of this behavior. Now I understand why ppl write reviews. I called in very happy saying amazing day hru? May I order to go please? Ordering my usual, veggies. I order at least 2 to 4 plates every time mostly w/o the rice. He asked, that's it? Then gets aggravated bekuz I only want veggies. 3 orders of brussel sprouts. So I asked, what's the problem w/ me ordering the veggies only? I mentioned I have been doing this for yrs w/o no problem. Did it yesterday, no problem. The GM before you nor the other employees had any problems. He proceeds to say & start cursing." I am not taking this s***, f*** that. Not dealing w/ it". Who the f*** taking that." So I asked for the manager, he says I am the manager. Then he hangs up in my face. I called back, he answered & I asked for the manager again. Due to his behavior I didn't believe he was the manager. He repeats he is the manager. So I said oh wow, you are f**** rude w/ bad cust. serv., I will pull up to order. On the way, praying & thinking as a professional. I am giving him excuses. Thinking ppl have been playing games placing orders. He's tired of it. Praying it's a big misunderstanding & I can get my brussel spouts that makes me dance. Oh nooo IT'S GETS worst. I walked in towards the bar/ to go area. Greeted by two men there. I asked who is the manager please? The gentleman on the same side as me stated he was but accent wasn't as strong. I asked again, who is the manager answering to go orders pls? The gentleman behind the bars says he is. I say you hung up in my face & that's f**** rude. He immediately started yelling saying f*** you. I don't have to be nice to you. I said excuse you, I did nothing to you & yes you are to have respect for ur customers. He proceeds to come from behind the bar very loud yelling & cursing, walks up in my face. Putting his hands in my face. The other "suppose to be manager", another gentleman & waitress who is familiar w/me came to push him out of my face. The suppose to be manager comes back to me to ask what I want to order? In the same breath wants to say you never know who you are dealing with so watch how you talk to ppl. That moment he lost my respect. Very inappropriate to say to a customer as I informed him you'll dont know who I am neither. Furthermore you don't know what happened or said on the phone before I came. Meanwhile the GM is still yelling & putting his hands in my face. I told him if he keep putting his hand in my face we are going to have a f*** problem. He says what the f*** are you going to do? Says I got something for you. Walks off to go get his wife (who works in the kitchen) as if he suppose to be putting her on me. She comes out being loud & ignorant but had enough common sense to calm down & listen. While the "only" person (waitress) w/ sense & professional trying to understand what happened. I ask the wife why are you yelling @ me? I did nothing to you neither. Your husband/ GM is very disrespectful & keep putting his hands in my face. I said you'll never know who are dealing with. She gets loud & says we know ppl to it ain't no problem. After calling out previous employees to inform them I have been coming to this establishment before her & he became the GM. Once I mentioned I usually deal w/ Donut from the kitchen, she goes outside to try & calm him down. Yet, he is still making a scene yelling f*** her while smoking with a group of men on the patio. This is "suppose to be" the GM, someone in leadership. I am at a complete disbelief of whats happening. Meanwhile the restaurant had customers on the inside & out. He going bak & forth from outside, consistently running up on me talking about f*** you, I don't have to be nice to you. What the f*** you going to do about it... Thank The Most High on many levels that my mindset is different today or else this would of went deeep south. For the waitress, again you dont owe me no apologies Queen. This had nothing to do with paying over the phone as he was trying to lie. If so I wouldn't of been spending $30 on veggies. More importantly try to put urself around like minded ppl. I can assist you into a better working environment w/ real leadership, benefits & show you how to evolve. Thank you for knowing how to provide great services & how to treat a loyal customer. For his wife, Queen you deserve better. No woman deserves a disrespectful man who thinks he can or ok to run up on women & put his hands on her. Which I can tell it is something he does when angry. For the "suppose to be" manager, I believe in teamwork as well but your statement was not professional. For the GM f*** ur disrespectful unprofessional coward a** & them brussel spouts on Cascade. You dont know what leadership is. Only coward "b****" men behaves like that towards women. Gratefully I was solo. You are example of how our people are destroying & killing our own kind. Due to carelessness & nonsense. To educate your ignorant a**, here in GA I could put a warrant out on you for assault. Then you would be @ Rice Street where ur wife could feed you from there. (Since she works in the kitchen there to). But as a black woman & my profession, my goal is to keep our black man out of jail. For Spice House Corp this a mockery, when it's talked about black establishment dont know how to operate professionally. I hope this isn't what you'll condone.

Nice Atmosphere, Food Wait Too Long

By Gloria S |

The atmosphere and music was wonderful. Went with some friends who had been taken there by some friends. When given the menus, we were told that all of the items on the menu were available. The orders were placed. After a while, the waitress came back out to say that the Oxtails were still cooking and it would be a while before they were ready. It took a long time for the food to come out. The manager apologized, stating that they only had one chef. The appetizers I ordered were brought out with everyone else's food and were cold. The fried green tomatoes, especially, were cold and they were not good. Our food came out at separate times and not together. Hopefully there will be some positive changes to the restaurant because I did like the location, but at this current time, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Such flavorful food!!

Amazing Place and Delicious Food

By DrAlias |

We decided to check this place out on a Sunday evening. It is a beautiful little spot that appears to be a previous Garage or Gas Station. I absolutely love the Decor and Ambience of this place. We ordered the Oxtails and Grits and the Stewed Goat, Mushroomed Rice and Plantains. Everything was absolutely delicious. The portion size was great along with the seasoning of the food. Customer service and the music was perfect. I can’t wait to return and check out their live entertainment and other food items. Very neat and clean. Great place for a date, very intimate setting. I highly recommend this place.

Skip Spice House

Went with 4 friends to the Spice House on the recommendation of a relative. I noticed when I entered that there were only 3 people outside our party in the restaurant, but immediately thought that inclimate weather was the cause. We sat and started talking among ourselves and eventually a young lady came and took our drink & meal orders. Every person ordered something different which I immediately assumed was going to make this trip interesting. That's when our luncheon turned into an adventure. We sat and talked for about 20 minutes when the first appetizer (Fried Green Tomatoes) was delivered to the table. The plating was unique and good looking, the food however was not. Whatever coating that was on the tomatoes had been overcooked making the tomatoes squishy. We had ordered Crab Cakes - they didn't have any. The waitress then asked if I wanted a drink (which she took with my initial order) and I said I had ordered Iced Tea from the menu. She didn't have any. I asked for lemonade, she brought some that had an unique flavor, so i inquired what was in it. She said LEMONS. The table went completely quiet then others asked what the unique taste was and she said LEMONS. After another 20 - 30 minutes the food started to appear. DID I SAY WE WERE THE ONLY CUSTOMERS TO GET ORDERS? The 3 people in the restaurant had left. The food came, looked very appetizing but the taste was another adventure. I had Oxtails with peas & rice cabbage and a side of plantain. The meat was tough, and extremely difficult to eat. My friend ordered Jerk Chicken with vegs and the chicken was so spicy that they couldn't enjoy their food. another person had Jerk chicken pasta, same problem. We asked for cake form the menu - They didn't have any We asked for pie from the menu - They didn't have any I also noted that at one point for about 10 minutes we were the only people in the restaurant./ The entire restaurant staff was in the kitchen. I saw one person with a hat on but at least 2 other people had no head covering in the kitchen. The inclimate weather may not have been what was keeping people out of the restaurant. Poor service, items missing from the menu and a lack of expediency are all present here.

Haitian/Jamaican fusion

By COLJ traveler |

During my visit in Atlanta, I visited Spice House after hearing so much about the food from my son. I had the fried fish with fried green plaintains, rice and pikliz. The fish was very delicious but did not care much for the rice as they ran out of black rice. The place is a nice spot for any occasion.

Very cute atmosphere and decor. Nice waitress who knows the menu. The jerk chicken is very good and spicy the veggie was also good the rice and peas didn't to much care for. Drinks were nice an the bartender was pleasant on the eye.. He he Drinks were 12.00$ a glass Over all you not to bad ticket was a little pricey but I will be going back for the jerk
