Late night drink and food in La Jolla

By dcatalino |

This is the only place for a late drink or food in LaJolla. Great deep dish pizza and all other pub food good. Bartenders and servers know all the locals. Most late night patrons are bartenders and servers from all other La Jolla places who come after their places close to relax. Atmosphere is fun and jubilant on weekends.

An historic restaurant in La Jolla, should be great, but is not.

By plucky017 |

The restaurant bills itself as one of the oldest in La Jolla, It's uniqueness ends there. The food was lackluster, and the service was average. I would recommend passing on this place,as historic value does not translate into the experience.

Lovely Pizza

By Graham W |

Had to book a table and return twenty minutes later as usual well worth it excellent value. Pizza superb.

It was not what I was expecting

By Yasel W |

Hostess very nice and with the sense of urgency trying to seat all customer as soon as possible but the service needs to improve way too much ; our beverages and appetizers took long time and by the time we got them our appetite was gone , however the server was nice in spite that the restaurant in general has a very poor service . Hopefully this improve because also the restaurant is charging to all guest checks since January 1st a 4% surcharge to cover increase costs , minimum wage and employee benefits .

OK pub food

By Travel on my Mind |

If you are after a cheap, no frills dinner spot in La Jolla, this sports bar fits the bill The menu has a good selection of burgers, grilled meats and fish. After a long drive, we both just wanted a burger. The meat was juicy and flavoursome, however I did not enjoy the garlic fries as these were just regular fries topped with raw garlic which made them somewhat inedible and not at all enjoyable.

Looking for a spot to watch the baseball playoffs

By parcapecod |

Nice local bar with plenty of TV and good pub food Service was great and food hit the spot Since we are Red Sox fans and wanted to be in a place that had the game on. They did and enjoyed watching with a smattering of Sox fans

Service was the best

By Jennifer B |

Five of us went for a lunch. The service was exceptional and my husband thought the tuna melt was the best he had ever had. Burger and salads were great as well.

Best pizza ! Deep dish is

By Krakkerz |

Best pizza ! Deep dish is outstanding. Super fresh ingredients. Fast 20 minutes usually. Best toppings like fresh garlic. Tomatoes sliced Yummy mozzarella

A Super Spot

By shop4ever |

We stopped here for lunch and had their salad and sandwich special. The tuna/avocado sandwich was perfect. We also had the Cuban which was also very tasty. The hot sauce had a nice flavor. Enjoy!

Hungry! After a long day!

By Robert P |

Llama can’t tell the place is a restaurant we walked by twice interior Decour is kind of dated but not terrible. My daughter ordered adult mac & cheese which both of us agreed it was very good we ordered wings they were pretty good they were cooked a little bit more basket of fries originally I ordered the fish and chips but with a wink and a nod from the waiter I changed my mind and just ordered a plain cheeseburger which was very good but again everything was at La Jolla pricing So for a cheeseburger basket of fries and order wings and a bowl of mac & cheese almost $60 but the food hit the spot pun intended ... kudos to the waiter for give me the heads up to change my order...

Good service

By CityHiker73 |

It was a busy Saturday on an art fair day, but The Spot had a booth for us Quite an extensive menu of burgers, salads, full meals. Servings were substantial, but the food is nothing special. It did come quickly.

"The Spot" Is a Super Spot!

By Adryan2013 |

Fresh, delicious food -- lots of choices for all kinds of tastes. The restaurant was packed when we got there, due to a local Fair -- people of all ages, sipping wine, drinking beer, munching on tasty appetizers, soups and salads, lots of choices from the grill and scrumptious seafood.

Cozy and reliable spot in the middle of town

By Patty8888 |

When you’re tired of shopping or window shopping in La Jolla, The Spot is just the spot to stop for a bite. They have a comprehensive lunch and dinner menu plus a bar area, and their booth seating near a crackling fire is soothing in winter and somehow even okay at other times of the year. Today I had the Maine Lobster special, a broiled 1.25 lb. lobster plus soup/salad and your choice of 2 sides plus a bread pudding dessert. It was yummy, including the yam fries, and a deal for $32.95. I prefer boiled lobsters as you can get at the meat in small crevices, but I’m a New England-born lobster snob, and I enjoyed this one a lot anyway. Plus the service was excellent. Other times I’ve had tasty sandwich wraps of various kinds, all of which were good. This place has been around for many years and it’s worth putting into your rotation when in La Jolla.

Not worth it

By John |

Went here on a suggestion but wasn’t too impressed. When we got the burger I ordered it was undercooked. When we told the waitress about it she was very apologetic but then took almost an hour to get it back to us. Upon leaving they charged us full price! For that kind of incident you’d think you’d get a discount or a complimentary dessert or something! The two stars are strictly because when I did get the burger it was pretty good. Wouldn’t return unfortunately

Delicious dinner.

By Love2Travel! |

Enjoyed the adult mac & cheese, pretzel bites and a sandwich. Service was quick and friendly, food tasted great. Outdoor seating area was nice - it was a pretty evening and I loved being outside to enjoy it.

Great atmosphere

By kimberlyhH214FP |

Great local place to eat. We could tell most of the patrons were frequent customers. Food was great. We had fish & chips and the chicken bacon Alfredo. Decent portions. We didn’t waste our food at all.

Nothing special

By bobholt_2000 |

The fries are extremely nice, particularly the garlic ones but the place is let down by inattentive staff who seem more interested in folding napkins than serving customers. And the tables were really sticky, not a great sign for the overall hygiene level in my opinion.

Servers need training

By Kekoa L |

Coming from Hawaii to La Jolla is our normal thing we do since we have a place to stay near by. We always go to the Spot for lunch and dinner. The food is always good and the Ambiance. On 08/09/24, we went for lunch at 12:00 noon. It was busy yet, so we sat outside. We ordered the B&B Lamb Burger and Spicy Jambalaya. Be alert, they charge a Surcharge of 5%. The food was great. The service on the other hand needs to pay close attention to. Our server was Emily P. It seems she had a bad day since the service was terrible. We had to ask for more water, that we are ready to order and to give us the bill to pay. It was busy so I don't know why. Hopefully she is reading this or the management so they can be properly trained in customer service. Maybe use the 5% to get them trained. On 08/11/24, we went again and our server was Ryan S and he was good. Thank you

Nice but nothing special

By ohdonnaoh |

I really trust rankings here so I was expecting something really delicious. It was Christmas Eve so there weren't too many options. The Spot was cozy looking though a bit dingy - floors looked like they hadn't had a good cleaning in at least 3 months. They seated us and all our kids in a rear booth and gave our girls crayons which is always welcomed. Our waiter, Matt, was a lovely guy and really upped the level of the experience. The Garbage burger was tasty but nothing to write home about. The kids spaghetti and meatballs was sufficient, the Salmon was nice and the wings were a bit on the sour side. The 5 layer chocolate cake was moist and fluffy, almost Duncan Hines like in texture (?!) Look, we've had much better and much worse. It was good for a pinch. But don't go out of your way to eat there.

Great Late Night Food

By Darlene K |

Great place for a burger! The ribs and wings are good too! Open late for those that want a good snack or late dinner. Wanted to try their pizza but the oven was out - next time!

Love this place

By pawge |

Had the skirt steak, green beans , and sweet potato fries. Excellent. Steak had great flavor and tender. Green beans were cooked perfectly. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly and accommodating. Customers were fun. Go there!

Worst Experience Ever

By Brandon L |

Very bad service, waiters were mean and also charged a 5% charge on the check and on top a 20% auto gratuity plus the tax. Ended up giving away $45 dollars for free and when I called the manager he didn’t wanna take the auto gratuity off and said he would call the cops if we wouldn’t tip. Worst service i’ve ever had and food wasn’t that good either.

Perfect for a casual lunch

By Cat S |

Surprised to see the negative reviews here We visited for a casual lunch and drinks and thought it brilliant. Pizzas (including gluten free) were delicious. Pasta dish was freshly made, rather than re-heated as you get in some places. Beers and wines were also great. Service with a smile from the lady who served us, and felt we were well looked after. Yes, the bill turned up pretty promptly and unasked for, but that's not uncommon and we certainly didn't feel rushed. Would absolutely go back (looked like it might be a good evening spot to go with friends for beers as well!)

Good food

By AdventuresofGemma |

Good value. Simple menu. Mac and cheese was great. Very tasty. All parties enjoyed their meals when visiting.

My kind of restsurant

By berky11 |

This is the kind of restaurant I like. Not too fancy cozyand inviting. Great menu choices. Had the jambalaya it was great spicy but not too spicy. Would definetly go back again.

Great Place for a "Normal" Meal in La Jolla

By Roman F |

La Jolla has a lot of fancy and expensive restaurants. This is not one of them. This is a really good casual place where you can get really good food at a reasonable price. Service was friendly and efficient. Roast beef dip is great. Pizza is exceptional.

Definitely going back next time we are in town

By lpwjohnson |

Good food! Both my husband and I enjoyed our dinner. Lively place and very nice staff. We enjoyed it much. Server was very friendly. Good place to watch sports- quite a few TVs to watch.

Watched March Madness with a Great Beer and Salad

By CindyKWarrington |

This place is a great place to go if you want to watch a sport in an intimate place that is not too noisy. The hostess was very accommodating and put on our game of choice. The waitress was wonderful and our two hours were great!

Good reasonable food

By Thorspecken |

Waitress was efficient and friendly and greeted me as soon as I arrived. Lively place but not deafening. I ordered the shrimp and scallops which was tasty and came piping hot. The garlic bread was crunchy and delicious. The menu has a lot of variety and I would think would please anyone. The portions were big. It's not the best pasta I've ever had but I'm giving a five based on cheery fast service and hot plentiful food at a reasonable price for a luxury neighborhood.

Friendliest Staff

By Yomamna |

Great place for food fun sports! Jessica! A great person to provide service customer service that excels! Together with Nelson the bar is run smoothly I really enjoyed my time there.

Wouldn't eat here again

By Kim H |

Have to say we were disappointed with our experience here. My burger was cold and undercooked. My husband ordered fish that wasn't good either. So bad that he didn't even eat it, he only ate his fries. Were told that only outdoor dining was available, staff said they'd turn the heaters on, so we agreed to sit outside. By the time we finished our meal, they still hadn't been turned on even after reminding them and being told that yes...they'd get them started. Definitely wouldn't recommend or go back.

Great place

By Reviewee22 |

Lots of choice on the menu. Opted for the small bbq chicken pizza. Was lovely and just enough. The greeter and server were both lovely and attentive. The music was great. Really enjoyed my lunch here.

Better walk by

By marcooo2017 |

It looks nice, but: - the music is too loud to chat; - TVs everywhere screaming for attention; - the food is moderate; - my wife's food only came after I had already eaten; - the pizzas were baked too hard; - the hamburger had too little taste. In short, don't.

Get the adult mac & cheese

By Chris M |

We had the adult mac & cheese and it was yummy. The kids version is the kind from kraft, we didn't order it.

Great bar!

By Rocky H |

Stopped in to watch World Series . Service was top notch! Michael was awesome in recommending beer and food. Ahi tuna was over cooked and cold, an appetizer that I expected more from. It was okay. We went back 4 nights in a row..atmosphere was good...beer options great. Highly recommend .

Classic diner

By Lenp135 |

A great choice for a reasonably priced classic diner - burgers, pizzas, salads etc. Nothing not too like.

Good food and nice staff

By Madelon P |

We stopped by for a quick lunch after hiking in Torrey Pines. I had the weekday special which consists of a small salad and 1/2 a sandwich. For me this was enough, but for American standards it was a really small meal. Friends got the garbage burger (which looked great and I heard was quite good) and the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were pretty satisfied after this meal. Service was great and very friendly!

Good food at good prices

By Rick K |

Found this restaurant looking for a reasonable dinner place in town. Good food at very good prices. Tee menu is very simple, example...baked potato is not loaded, simply butter and sour cream. Probably why their prices are so low, little overhead. Ideally located in an area with shopping and trendy hotels (Ideal for walking) My wife and I both ate here for $35.00, not bad at all. Burger was great. Nice staff too.

Service disappointing, food ok.

By Bex C |

Food is ok, we all had ribs, the garlic-Park was good. Ribs tender. My problem is with the service. Two of us had finished our food when the waitress cleared our plates. You shouldn’t remove plates until everyone at the table has finished. THEN while one of our party was still eating we were presented with the bill. We weren’t asked if we wanted desserts or coffee. They could have had another $40 at least on the bill if the server had made an effort. We’ll get ice cream down the road now and head somewhere else for cocktails. Really disappointed so still at the table while I write this.

Fabulous atmosphere, food and service!

By Robert H |

We were in search of a decent place to eat and walked around until we found The Spot. Once we were seated Margaret did an outstanding job of helping us make our choices and checked in with us frequently. Her recommendations for dessert were excellent. She made us feel welcome and the food was great. Thanks The Spot and Margaret!!

Unfamiliar with official ID

By Lizzie R |

Myself and my husband came here for a few drinks one night during our honeymoon visit to San Diego. As we got to the bar to order we were asked if we had official identification, which was not a problem as we are 28 and 30 years old and are familiar with the US policy on this. We proceeded to show our UK driving licences (which we had been using as ID whenever needed over the past 2 weeks in various cities in California). The barman rudely stated that he could not accept this as ID as he wouldn't be able to tell if it was counterfeit. He asked if we had passports with us, which we did not as we would not want to risk losing them on holiday. I'm not sure how he would have known that our UK passports were not counterfeit as he is clearly unfamiliar with the official forms of identification which he requested initially. If you are from outside of the US and below 30 I would be wary of planning to drink here unless you have your passport with you! We went to a different bar across the road called Nine Ten where we were welcomed and had a great time!

As Good as I Remembered

By Pat M |

I spent a lot of time at The Spot when vacationing in the area in the late 80s. I was in town with the family in July and stopped in for lunch. The service was good, and the salads were large and very tasty.

Great food and great service!

By Chaching1197 |

Another great place to eat at La Jolla! Cozy near the fireplace and enjoyed a light dinner with the Seared Ahi and the Fish Tacos. Went well with the Mojito and the dark beer:) Service was prompt and ver friendly!

Big portions, great service!

By TraveledViking |

This is a great bar and grill joint set in the middle of La Jolla high end restaurants. The menu has a good mix of bar food and tasty creations. Service was quick and helpful! A good find that is an easy walk from the cove!

We Love The Spot

By 1222linda |

My husband and I have gone here for about 15 years. We are bar people and love the atmosphere at The Spot. The food is really good no matter what you order. The pizza is especially amazing.

Unexpected

By Deb B |

The Spot caught my eye, as there's is a restaurant named The Spot in my hometown. Not at all the same! This is more of a somewhat dark, tavern/bar style restaurant. We had good, quick service which was appreciated as we were hungry. The fish n chips were very hot and good, though they could have used more seasoning.

Happy Hour!

By Gr8Accountant |

During a walkabout in LJ my friend and I were looking for a place to get a bite to eat. We didn't want a full meal, just an appetizer amount of food. We were fortunate enough to find this place , and even better, we happened across it at Happy Hour! We had half price glasses of wine (beer is also half price) & half price appetizers! She had the Cajun Lamb, I had the Street Tacos. Our server was personable & attentive, the food hit the spot, and the price was right. If you haven't tried this place, it's worth a stop. It was absolutely the right place at just the right time. Enjoy!

Excellent food

By Lynseydear |

We ate here 2 nights running as we enjoyed it so much. Large menu and you can change any burger on the menu to be chicken or vegetarian. My chicken burger was one of the best I've had. Food was so good we returned the next night.

Good food

By Janet G |

Large portions of very good, food. Right on the Main Street close to hotels. Recommend by several locals we spoke with

Great grub!

By Rick G |

The Spot in La Jolla is one of those smaller, non-trendy eateries in the heart of La Jolla CA. Great menu, great atmosphere, service has always been good. We frequent there about 3 times a month, always a go-to choice...

Pizza here is "spot on!"

By DS1Arlington |

It was pure luck (with some help from Google Maps) that we walked in for late night salads and pizza at The Spot. The thin crust pizza was generously topped, but not heavy & soggy. A thick crust version also is available. The arugla citrus salad was made with fresh ingredients and the winning combo of greens, fruit, cheese and nuts. The Spot’s California cobb is another winner. The menu has many choices for appetizers (love the idea of French fries and onion rings on one dish to share), burgers, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. The atmosphere is southern California tavern with the bar on one wide and comfy tables and booths on the fireplace side. Service is attentive and friendly. Our waiter also was knowledgeable about beer choices.

Delicious!

By Lily |

Great food with a variety of options! The food came out fairly quickly, and it was amazing! The staff team seemed very nice, and they tended to all of our needs. Nice job! Would recommend!

Cozy lobster deal

By Marianne M |

Centrally located in La Jolla. Strolling by, my husband and I noticed the specials outside the restaurant. Lobster special to be specific. Very good deal, value, quality of food. Definitely going to come back. Lots of other items on menu to choose from for everyone.

BBQ RIBS..........

By Johnabs2009 |

Last minute late night meal. Had the BBQ ribs, full rack, and for some reason the all disappeared!! That good!!

Rain chased us away from the beach for an hour

By John S |

We found The Spot and ordered Tequila and appetizers. The Onion rings were fantastic as was the shrimp. A nearby table had some amazing looking big burgers served. Reasonable for a La Jolla restaurant and tasty. Nice drinks. When we finished we noticed the rain had stopped and proceeded to go down and watch the seals at the beach.

Great Food, Good Prices

By Kelsey P |

I traveled here with my family and some friends. We all ordered different things and everything was wonderful. Two at our table got burgers, one got the jambalaya, and two ordered the sea food. The burgers were huge! I got the mahi mahi tacos, and they were amazing! I highly recommend them. The service was wonderful. Even with our group of kids in the party, everyone was very patient, accommodating, polite, and helpful. I will say that the kids menu could use some work. There were four options, and they were somewhat pricey for what they offered. Specifically, they listed a serving of Kraft macaroni and cheese for $7. Considering I can make three times that amount for a fraction of the cost, we passed on that one. If you have older kids though that can eat off the regular menu, or it's just adults, this place is a perfect option.

Sleeper spot

By Jim J |

My wife and I were looking for a place to rest our feet and get a beer. Stumbled into this place and were we glad. Jessica served us and made our experience top notch. Most pleasant and best service I've had in a long time!! Great food too. We will be back.

Super casual, cute and friendly

By happymomx3 |

We stumbled upon this uber casual restaurant while we were strolling around the village around dinner time on a Saturday night. They were out of the deep dish pizza early in the evening so we opted for the thin crust and Bacon Chicken Alfredo. Everyone enjoyed their meals and, while we were there, the restaurant became packed, which is always a good sign! Our waitress was friendly and checked in often to see if there was anything we needed. The location was perfect for a visit to the village and we walked down to Shell Beach in time for sunset. Perfect first night in La Jolla!

La Jolla Cove lunch

By Heather P |

Great place for lunch near La Jolla Cove. Excellent sandwiches, soup of the day lobster bisque was fantastic. Good value. Great service, pub atmosphere.

Tasty meal

By AnjaUK |

We passed the restaurant and saw a couple having fries that looked amazing. We decided to go in for a meal, we did not regret this! This is a sports bar, but the food was really delicious, I had sword fish my husband a plain burger, and off course- fries! Really friendly staff. Highly recommend this place.

Drinks are good but that's about it.

By HawaiianBadger |

We received a recommendation to visit the Spot. We ordered a seafood pasta and the kids spaghetti. Not great and overpriced. The drinks were very good especially the old fashioned. Our waiter was very nice. Unlikely I'll be back.

Cool, relaxed, easy 👍

By kohumoma |

We just wanted to stop for a drink at the end of our west coast trip! ... it turned into several drinks!! The barmaid was amazing! Extremely efficient, very friendly, very charming! We loved it!!

hidden gem of la jolla

By Bryan T |

This joint may look like a dive, but it serves some of the best food and drink in la jolla for a reasonable price. Lived there a year, and this was my Cheers bar. Game on the tube at the bar, great bartenders, surprisingly great food and deserts.

A Family Favorite

By Suddrethks |

The Spot has been a La Jolla institution for many, many years and still draws eager diners for lunch and dinner. The Works thin crust Pizza is a marvel of several meats, lots of cheese and easily serves two or more people. Portions here are large so it is best to share when you can. There are lots of choices on the menus that are easy on your wallet. There is a reason The Dpot has been in business here for over 25 years.

Nice little La Jolla gem

By tjmm1985 |

Dined at The Spot for dinner. Wide variety of menu choices. The Lamb and Blue Cheese Burger was cooked to perfection. The local halibut was fresh. Two of our favorites were the Mahi - mahi tacos and the Chicago style sausage pizza. The pizza crust was buttery and soft with fresh tomatoes and a healthy amount of oregano. Well done Evanston folks!

Best deep pan pizza!

By K8RdeC |

The best deep pan pizza!!! Is crunchy and amazing! The onion rings are spectacular! Good service!! Dont miss this place in La Jolla!

Surprisingly good!

By Jim9876543210 |

We stopped on our way to a well known restaurant up the street. So we only had modest expectations. However, The Spot exceeded those on every level. I had the swordfish with green beans and parm garlic fries. The fish was thin cut with mango salsa, just right for me. The parm fries were outstanding and the green beans were surprisingly cooked, yet crisp with plenty of flavor. Two local draft beers were a nice addition. I have dined along Prospect in La Jolla a number of times through the years and never stopped here due to a dated decor look. However, I was very pleased with my meal, the service and the value. I expect to return.

The Right Spot fir lunch

By Kimberly C |

We were seated quick. There was a lively breeze. We sat in a comfortable booth. I had the Triple Berry Salad. It was delicious. My friends ordered the avocado tuna melt and salad. The margarita was very good!

Great location, good food, friendly staff

By K R Hall |

This was a last minute choice after a long drive into La Jolla. Staff was really friendly, food was quite good and reasonably priced. Would definitely go again.

Pleasant

By L_K1509 |

Overall a pleasant place to sit and have a beer. We did not eat here. The bar music was good and not so loud we couldn’t hear each other. Very cold in the bar with the doors open ( cold evening in March) so did not stay long. $7-9+ tax for a beer.

Wow - great food!

By lvgirl09 |

Everything we ordered was excellent. Sweet potato fries, Cuban sandwich, bacon cheeseburger, Chicken Alfredo with Bacon and amazing Parmesan Garlic fries. You won't be disappointed...

The Spot: Keeping It Simple

By SoccerDad36 |

From its decor to its menu, everything about The Spot struck me as simple, comfortable, free of fussiness. Oh, and the food was excellent. So too was our waitress. The Spot is set in a great location on a happening street in downtown La Jolla. Go there and enjoy.

Beilliant

By Chris Jenkins |

Went here with my girlfriend for a meal on our anniversary and it was fantastic. The food was sublime, the service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was great. Would definitely return!

Locals and a lively bar scene

By Janlett |

A very basic bar which serves some interesting food as well. My husband loved the pulled pork tacos and the beer was good. Friendly waitstaff.

Excellent solo dinner!

By Deb T |

I was in CA for a conference and searched for a place for dinner. I found The Spot and decided to give it a try. Lucked into a parking spot right by in La Jolla Cove. My server was fantastic and let me just hang out. I had the hanger steak which was the best meal I had in CA

Excellent food in big portions

By 622bj24 |

We randomly walked into this place while walking in La Jolla. The food was very tasty and the server was very attentive. In our party we tried an individual pizza, two pasta dishes, and an appetizer. The shrimp pesto penne was probably the best version of that dish I've had in years. The portions were quite large so you may want to consider getting a few dishes for your entire group and sharing.

Nice sports bar

By Arsenal |

Nice sports bar, good sandwiches and burgers, fries just ok Service was good, lots of tvs to entertain with sports Will be back,

Good lunch

By chris13209 |

Stopped at the spot restaurant for a quick lunch while shopping in La Jolla. The lunch menu is very good and the service was quick and pleasant. My wife got a cup of soup and a half a sandwich. For only 9.95 that was a good deal. I ordered iced tea to drink and it was as good as the tea I make at home, maybe better. I told the waitress how much I enjoyed the tea and she said they get it from cafe moto. I got a chicken sandwich and it was great. The chicken sandwich was listed in the burger section of the menu so it came with a side. I got a side of onion rings and they were excellent. It is a nice place for a delicious and quick lunch.

Overcharged and poor service

By Bailey |

We visited The Spot in La Jolla for some food and the service was less than impressive. Firstly we had the cheque shoved in our faces before we had even finished our food. We did not catch the waitresses name but she was extremely rude. On top of this we were over charged and when we challenged this we were told that this was an item not on the menu and the price was correct. But how could we have known about this item not on the menu when it was our first time at The Spot? This item cost a considerable amount more than the item we actually wanted. We were not reimbursed and said waitress was extremely unhelpful. We will not be returning and we would advise anyone not to come here unless they enjoy poor service and rude waitresses.

Great for lunch

By WombatBen |

Located on La Jolla main street this is a great place for lunch. Soup and sandwiches are great and can be taken in combo half & half

Great place to see the ball game.

By GolfGuy26 |

Stopped at The Spot while on a golf trip to La Jolla. We wanted to watch the baseball game during lunch and found the perfect place with a perfect atmosphere. Food was excellent. Enjoyed the pickle chips for an appetizer. Burgers and salads were great. The jambalaya was spicy with a nice sauce. Servers were great.

Good bar and above average food

By SDAR |

I have been to The Spot many times. It is a better bar than restaurant. But, if you're looking for a decent burger or some other comfort food, The Spot is a good place to go.

Great food and service

By Foodie_Crossing |

We stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday. Server was fun, informative and fast. The food was great. They bread and fry their own chicken fingers, no frozen bar food! Blood Mary was spot on and we could sample a few beers before deciding which one we liked.

Comfort food in a comfortable environment

By dcpky |

We were searching for a casual place with good food and this was definitely a lucky find. Our group of six included someone who wanted vegetarian and he really liked the macaroni and garlic bread. I had a nice-sized personal pizza and another friend loved her burger but it was too large to finish (not a bad problem)! We enjoyed great service, good drinks, and everyone liked their food.

Pub food at a reasonable price

By Greg B |

My wife and I stopped into the Spot because it was the type of food we were looking for after a long day of traveling. The spot offers pub fare such as wings, mac n cheese, burgers, pizza, etc. My wife had fish tacos and I had buffalo chicken tenders and the "adult mac n cheese." All of the food came out in large portions! Food was great. The bar is laid back like a traditional pub. You can't go wrong here if you are looking for pub food at a reasonable price.

Good for people watching

By Maureen C |

Okay food - hit and miss drinks - Servers are usually all really nice and do their best to be quick with your orders.

A pleasure in La Jolla!

By sobore |

Everything seems to be done right here, the service is great, the food is great, really no complaints. Definitely a place I would return to again and again!

Poor staff

By Sparty |

Listening to staff talk about how the manager is doing it wrong is a turn off...understanding that they are wrong is even more so

Always a steady bet

By tmiller253 |

We have been to The Spot a few times in the last almost 30 years. Its a good spot for pizza, sandwiches, etc. My wife and I stopped in today for a light lunch. The grilled chicken, berry salad was really good. We split the salad and a fresh bagel roll Both were really good. Service was good with friendly staff.

Great neighborhood place

By Lulubee66 |

This is a great place to come for a drink at the bar, or lunch/dinner. We actually spent last Thanksgiving here and ate off of the regular menu. The staff has always been very friendly and we likes it's casual laid back vibe.

Great Steaks

By Shervin H |

Really good steak and fantastic Margaritas. The Cheese macaroni was OK and thats why only 4 stars. Nevertheless, I can highly recommend this place. Also the service was fast and friendly.

Best Pizza and Best price

By TravelingBarbie96 |

The BEST pizza I have ever eaten, literally me and husband stuffed our faces for 20 dollars. I will say they need more servers, they had one server for the whole restaurant at 12:30 pm.

Great meal at the SPOT....Food was excellence. Service was good as well. Great location too. We will definitely be back.

Always a Great Meal Every Time I Come to La Jolla

By Richard B |

The Spot restaurant is always on my list of places to eat whenever I visit La Jolla. The food is great and the service if very friendly. The menu offers a wide variety of items from simple burgers to great steaks and even lobster. It may look like a bar from the outside but it is a family friendly place where everyone is welcome.

Great place!

By Auzmum |

We sat outside..great service. We had calamari for appetizer which we found to be fresh and delicious. Then we shared a chicken club sandwich which was huge and delicious. Glad we shared it..plus it came with a side. Great value. A++++

Hit the spot!

By MissM |

Came for a late night "snack" and ordered the kids small spaghetti meatballs, onion rings and steak tacos. The meatballs were excellent and more than enough for a kid! Onion rings and steak tacos were delicious as well.

Comfortable Atmosphere, Good Food

By Bobolina2014 |

We ate there twice and took out twice during a two week visit. Good selection of comfort food and good service. Ribs, wings, grilled fish all were excellent. Caesar salad is outstanding.

Disappointing

By Rohrshack |

We selected this place since it was close by and had lots of choices for dinner. We ordered a mithai drink that was very good and loaded with alcohol. We also ordered hamburgers, mac cheese with chicken and salmon. The hamburgers were large but too well done with no pink, the chicken was a breast but had grizzle and the salmon was overdone. The only two items that were great was the drink and sweet potato fries. We were very disappointed. The service was fine.

Love the bar tenders and home like bar atmospherevw

By Susie D |

Lamb chops are fabulous. Jessica and Chip are awesome bartenders. Love this place. Also try the avocado Cesar salad and chicken wings.

NEVER AGAIN

By Kimberly G |

Have been coming here for almost 10 years. Always a tradition to come here when I'm in town visiting my family in La Jolla which is multiple times a year. My mom and her husband are regulars here. Tonight I arrived and of course asked to go to The Spot. Horrid experience. The waitress was sullen, rude and inattentive. She brought my pizza after 15 or 20 min and then we waited over 20 minutes after that for the rest of our food and when we questioned the waitress she was very flippant and rude. She then went and got a manager who claimed to be the owner. (He is likely the owners son or relative) He told us basically too bad and we could wait and eat or just leave. He was nasty, rude and slovenly. The people at the table next to us were shocked at his behavior as well as others around us. After 35 years in La Jolla and a reputation to uphold I'm sure his father or whoever owns the restaurant would not be very happy with his behavior and lack of customer service. Certainly not the customer service you would expect in a La Jolla landmark restaurant. A simple apology would have sufficed but instead were treated rudely.

***warning*** run away!

By Tiffany A |

*** WARNING *** I will NEVER ever support the spot ever again and recommend you RUN as fast as possible away from this place. They do not even deserve 1 star and sadly yelp does not offer a choice for this. My family just experienced one of the most heart wrenching, disappointing and blood boiling experiences I couldn't have even every fathomed. Some of the context behind this statement is that The Spot has literally been our weekly staple for at least the last 10 years, we are in there at least once a week, it's the place our family requests as soon as they get off the plane and then we're there several times within a week. Personally I have never cared for the first and it wouldn't be my first choice, the food is all frozen and heated up nothing creative or tasteful about it. Most of time I am kicking and screaming when we go there but members of our family adore it and so it's represented family to us but I've had more disappointing meals to count but because of the love my family members have I've continued to sullenly support this over the years. (It *almost wants to make me celebrate in how bad of a situation this was but I will never ever tolerate mistreatment of my family & friends) (side note the only recent they ever had was the lamb lollipops, duck sausage and calamari and they took them all off the menu ) My mom gets off the plane Friday night and where are we headed? The spot of course... We sat immediately per usual. And the waitress (we had never seen her before) immediately acted annoyed we were there, slamming menus down, acting annoyed when we hadn't had our orders ready as we were still all greeting one another and catching up. Had to flag her down to try and get her attention once we were ready. Placed the orders, and then proceeded to wait an abnormal amount of time. Finally the pizza appeared but the other remaining dishes did not appear, we inquired about the other entrees and she said they would be out. 23 minutes later the other entrees had NOT appeared yet and when gently inquired suggested about bringing out a drink on the house since these wait times were getting ridiculous. The waitress turns around and heads back to the kitchen acknowledging nothing. The next moment was the true outrage, a man that appeared to be mid thirties popped out, and immediately leans down to the table in an aggressive stance and literally tells my grandmother and grandfather "you have a choice you can either eat or leave" my grandparents in shock that someone just spoke to them this way. My grandparents asked to speak with the manager he replies "I am the manager" they asked to speak with the owner his reply " I AM THE OWNER" hard to believe since this restaurant is 35 years old and he doesn't appear to be older than 40. The waitress comes back to apologize for the said " RUDE behavior from this man" and replied that he was the "owners son" The table across just gawked at what they just witnessed and also replied they too have been coming for years and had never observed such disorienting and rude behavior. It was utterly shocking and left my family in disbelief, I was in anger and tears and can't believe something like this could have ever occurred. Never ever will we support this establishment and after treatment such as this, and I do not say this lightly this place deserves to not be in business after such treatment and gracious patronage we've had for over 10 years and the thousands of dollars spent to keep their doors open and then such disgusting, disrespectful treatment.

Dinner With My Niece

By lkph48 |

I visited with my niece. I started with a Bloody Mary…and Julie ordered a Arnold Palmer. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger – ½ pound burger topped with bacon strips, lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, choice of cheese (mine was cheddar but I really didn’t realize it was my choice or I would have ordered Swiss) and their homemade 1000 Island Dressing. This was a good burger. It was served with Beer-battered Fries. Julie ordered the Adult Mac and Cheese and small salad.

Great spot for a quick bite and a beer

By jenkorba |

We spent the day walking the boardwalk, beaches and tide pools in La Jolla. We were SO HUNGRY when we were done and had to then walk back to our car on the north end of the Cove! We walked up to Prospect St. instead of walking back up the beach, and The Spot is the first place we came to. It was perfect - we each got a beer, and ordered the street tacos and fried shrimp to share. Great end to our day trip, and we we didn't spoil our dinner that we had planned for later that night. Service was good, and we loved the sports bar atmosphere.

World class

By jay f |

This is a world class everything from the service to the food to the location and atmosphere, this is a true must see and go

Stop in for a cocktail for sure.

By ThePrawnster |

Cracking night out! We stopped here after dinner only intending to have one drink and it was so much fun that we stayed all evening. Thank you Laura for the fabulous drinks and the laughs and your friend for the tunes!! From the Beiber Crew!

Looking for a surfer art .. cormer

By Rosemary R |

Located in La Jolla, looking a surfer art picture. Found it, decided to have lunch, I had a Grilled Reuben and soup. The appearance is like a pub. Steady flow of traffic. Parking is difficult to find. People are very friendly.

Food was fine but....

By WolveyGeordie |

We ate here in our first night in La Jolla. It's a funny one to review as the food was fine but the staff were just very offhand. No other way to put it, we just didn't feel welcome all night, but the food was nice and reasonably priced. So I'm sitting on the fence with this one. Good food, decent price, judge the staff yourself!!

Great pub food!

By Audrey K |

We grabbed a quick dinner here and it was perfect. I had the fish and chips and was very happy with it. My husband had a burger and it hit the spot.

Nice relaxing atmosphere

By C C |

Watched the Lakers game while eating a tasty meal. Garlic fries were delicious and the garbage burger was plenty filling. It was a quiet night but a number of locals were there. The wait staff were friendly and good at their job and the bar tenders made friends with everyone at the bar.

Great Local Joint!

By jrc-esq |

As the name of this review says... this a great local joint. Its been voted "best of" in various categories... but keep in mind its a gastropub. So when you walk in, that very faint scent of stale beer on wooden floors may offend... note - my family wasn't offended. Why?!? The service was excellent, the staff beyond friendly as well as helpful and the food is certainly not pub food... its gastropub food and then some. Case in point: Excellent, light, crispy beer bater fries loved by all especially a 6 and 2 year old; non-greasy, flavorful fried jumbo shrimp also loved by the little ones; absolutely delicious medium rare Cajun Lamb Chops worth fighting with your spouse to get the last one and truly sushi grade ahi tuna served over seaweed salad. All in all the food here outclasses the physical space and makes a visit worth it... Go and ENJOY!

A must when You'er in La Jolla

By Reneetravels2 |

Whenever I'm in La Jolla I go to The Spot or if we have visitors we always take them to the Spot. The pizza is a deep dish & amazing. Sandwiches are good with garlic parmesan fries. The Salads are huge & always fresh. I love the flavored Ice teas. Calamari was alright. Baked potato soup is good, but I forget what day they offer it. Great location, but parking is not fun.

Great for grab and go

By jjroadster |

I cannot speak to the overall restaurant dining experience, but we were looking for a place to get pizza to go (staying very nearby). We walked in to order on a busy Friday night, headed out to run a few errands, and our pizza was ready as promised. Not the best, but decent, staff was helpful, and for us, could not beat the convenience.

Good local spot

By bdwest5 |

The Spot is a local place to grab dinner and a drink. Our table had french onion soup, salads, burgers, fries (really good), sweet potato fries, local beers, etc. An informal atmosphere right on the main street in La Jolla. Gets crowded on weekends. Enjoy!

New Favorite

By Leland A |

Drop in here for dinner and drinks, the options on the menu were extremely well done the food was prepared perfectly. For staff and affordable.

Very good

By eduardops60 |

Great location. The restaurant is very nice. Excellent service. Everything tastes amazing. Good drinks too.

Great Chicago Thin Crust Pizza

By H B |

This was a childhood pizza restaurant that relocated from Illinois to La Jolla. I was so pleased that they did not change the pizza recipes and it was just as I remembered. The half-cheese half-sausage was our choice and it is all Chicago. A good selection of local and craft beers assisted the dining experience.

Going back tonight

By David W |

We went last night for dinner, We weren't too hungry, so my wife got a bowl of the French onion soup and I got a cup of the clam chowder. Both were amazing. Then we split a French Dip sandwich. Again, amazing. Decided we would go again because I really want to try their bison burger. Decided tonight will be the night.

Good vegetarian options

By Nikhil A |

Good location near the cove. Decent vegetarian options and nice cocktails. Highly recommend the outside seating.. Staff could do a little better though.. Staff behaved a bit uninterested…

Good but not Brilliant

By DesertDrifters |

Pooped in here with friends for a few drinks and supper. Staff very friendly, atmosphere good and the menu varied. I had the Fish and Chips which was lacklustre - fish was a bit on the soggy side. Others seemed reasonably happy with their food though. That said, there was good offer on the wine, which kind of compensated :)

Delicious Eating

By Marc S |

During our trip to La Jolla we were fortunate to enjoy several wonderful dinners and lunches at the Spot. This popular restaurant offers an array of fresh fish, steaks, ribs, burgers, and salads. Every meal was wonderful, well prepared and complemented by excellent wait service. We ordered: • Winter Salad (Seasonal) - Baby Spinach, Strawberries, Mandarin Oranges and Walnuts topped with Thinly Sliced Red Onions. Served with a Honey Mustard dressing – added blackened chicken. • California Cobb - Sliced Avocado, Tomato, Bacon Crumbs, Wedges of Hard Boiled Egg, and Blue Cheese Crumbles all on Romaine Lettuce – added blackened salmon. • Veggie-Burger. • Fresh Atlantic salmon - A simple 7-ounce Grilled Atlantic Salmon filet cooked medium and served with your choice of two sides. • Grilled chicken breast. This conveniently located restaurant made delicious eating easy.

Good Happy Hour Spot

By aspen24 |

We stopped for happy hour and enjoyed half price appetizers. The food was fine, our server seemed bored and unfriendly.

Not great, overpriced bar food

By WIS M |

Food was average or below. Bar food over priced for the quality. They had just opened so the service wasn't great either. Skip this place.

Good service

By mommajoColumbus_Ohio |

Had a burger and it was not very good- greasy and overlooked. My son liked the salmon sandwich. Fresh green beans drowned in butter. Not the best but we were hungry and it was affordable. The waiter was very nice and attentive.

Blah

By Michael L |

We were gently recommended to try 'The Spot' by another tourist visiting La Jolla. It reminded me of the bars I frequented in college. The food was ok, average service, the tables and chairs needed to be power-washed, and the bathrooms were disgusting. (I'm glad I didn't see the kitchen area.)

Good food -- Good value

By Britt H |

Good food at a good value. Had the thin crust pizza -- great taste. Nice atmosphere. Great service!!

Game 7 Stanley Cup

By wxinms1 |

Went here to watch my Blues win Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, got very quick response on Yelp when I asked night before if they would have the game on. Got there just after the game started and they worked to get us seats at the bar where we could watch the game. Food was very good, fried pickle appetizer was solid and the meat combo thin crust pizza was excellent, very good sausage. Enjoyed the ambiance and service was great. Memorable night.

Good pub fare!

By MarkSiwek |

Pleasant pub to grab a bite! Food was very good (had the Cuban sandwich with fries) and the staff were friendly. Nice place to stop while visiting La Jolla!

OK dinner, basic food etc

By Jiggy Canfield |

We went here for dinner while visiting Lajolla on our vacation. Me and my wife and 4 kids...it was tough getting in anywhere so we picked this place...it was like a Irish old time resturaunt...seated quickly...food was ok, good, no great...mostly bar pub food....I got a shrimp pesto pizza that was good, some tacos for the kids....somewhat good service...alot to choose from in that area if I ever get back would not rush back to eat here...

Great lunch at this bar and grill.

By 48deniseh |

Three of us had lunch at this bar and grill. All the food was excellent and the service very good and fast.

Great place for casual dinner~

By BeckyRT |

We dined on a Sunday evening- did not have to wait for a table. Our server was busy, but attentive. We ordered the Lamb Burger, a French Dip and Fish and Chips. All food was hot, tasty and timely. Lamb Burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful. Portions were large. French dip was not at all fatty, and fish and chips for my 12 year old picky fish eater were "awesome" Server even remembered the extra lemon on the side. We would definitely return if ever in the area!

What a great find !

By esteuer |

#1 our waitress, Jasmine, was terrific. Great old bar atmosphere - delicious French baked onion soup. Fair prices. Most definitely try this place - if there is a line, more tables in rear so line moves.

Friendly bar and tasty menu

By Marlene M |

We were walking around the village in La Jolla looking for pizza. We had previously passed by the spot in the past, but this time, pizza called us to go in. We were so happy that we gave this gathering place a try. The cheerful hostess welcomed us and found the perfect table. The environment was comfy casual with a fireplace complimenting the chill outdoors. There was a Philadelphia/Chicago football game showing on the screens. Patrons sitting at the bar were rooting for their team, and in the dining room, couples, singles and families were enjoying their afternoon meal. My husband and I shared the avocado Caesar salad and "The Works" thin crusted pizza. Both were very good. Our server, Margaret, was comfortably helpful and competent. The price was reasonable with shared salad, large pizza, and drinks at $45.

Advertised as a sports bar....

By lanlubber2015 |

I was looking for somewhere for an early light supper on a warm and somewhat humid evening and The Spot nicely filled the bill. At 6 pm on a Friday night it was not too busy and I was seated by a window - nice breeze and was able to watch the action along Prospect. I had originally thought to order the lamb burger but decided on the chef's special fish ($15 with two sides). A nice rockfish fillet with a red pepper sauce and sides of fries and coleslaw. The fish was beautifully cooked and the sauce did not overwhelm its delicate favour. The coleslaw was house made and was crunchy and not overdressed - the best. The fries were standout - golden, crispy and hot. The Spot was advertised on a local tourism sheet as a sports bar but it was more a family restaurant (seemed to be a number of families with young kids on the other side) that happened to have three TV screens mounted high over the bar. A nice friendly atmosphere and efficient service without being rushed made for a nice relaxing supper after a busy day exploring and shopping. Dessert was a gelato from the gelateria just up the street - passion fruit. Yum!

Best Ribs in California

By Martyn |

Great local bar. Called in whilst on a 2 day visit. Locals really friendly and helpful. Although the place was busy the barman had time to talk to us and top up our beer. Had a rack of ribs, obsoletely the best I had in 5 weeks touring the West Coast. The meat fell off the bone and was delicious.

Great pizza

By Hhogelund |

We shared the ahi tuna appetizer and a pizza and they were both very good. We were stuffed and happy. Service was good We would definitely return if in the area.

Nice happy hour

By Lifeisonetrip |

Reasonably priced happy hour, including drinks and apps. Our server was excellent, efficient and pleasant. If you can find parking, this is a great place to stop for lunch or happy hour with apps in an area that can be very pricey.

Couldn't fault it.

By Neil M |

There are so many places to eat in this neighbourhood that it is almost impossible to choose. We went to the Spot because it is so close to our hotel and very glad we did. Our server, Nate, was friendly and attentive and made some excellent beer recommendations. The food was excellent, best steak I have had on our trip from Denver and the kids pizzas were delicious. Would go again if we were staying for longer. Really good value too!

Lunch

By Bvlbaseball |

A quick lunch at the spot was well taken. The burger that I ordered was cooked as requested and the garlic fries were not overwhelming. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I recommend it.

Good drinks!

By Amy |

They had great bar and food was good but not great. We loved the fries with parmesan and garlic on it, so yummy. Burger and fish and chips was ok but not really tasty. Overall it was good if you are hungry.

My Kind of Place

By Expedition586402 |

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. My wife and I just visited The Spot for the very first time while vacationing in La Jolla and we loved it.

Excellent dinner and exceptional value

By MARKER2727 |

We are not normally attracted to restaurants that serve a very large menu from pasta to pizza. They look like tourist traps. But we plucked up courage and went for dinner tonight. We ordered the grilled Maine lobster and snow crab. Included in the set price of $32.95 was a salad starter and two side dishes. The salad arrived and we now feared the worst. It comprised of a lot of greenery, one slice of cucumber and a pile of shredded carrot. Even the 1000 island sauce was not up to par. We had ordered a bottle of Kendal Jackson reserve Chardonnay. Delicious and on Monday and Tuesday wines are half price, this was a bargain at $16. So we sipped the wine and waited with baited breath. The main dishes arrived and the lobster and the crab were tender and sweet. They could not be faulted. The side of onion rings with the lobster is classic. If you ever heard of Frederics in the south of France (now long gone) grilled lobster and French fried onions were his world class dish. To finish we had chocolate and vanilla ice cream. The service by Mike was most attentive and made for a pleasurable evening. The cost of the entire meal including tax was $95.08. Exceptional value. Thoroughly recommend this dinner if you like shellfish.

Great casual restaurant in the heart of La Jolla

By Paul H |

We have been here many times. This time, we were staying at the Cove for a few days. We came on a Wednesday evening about 5:30. We were seated at a nice corner window table right away. Jimmy was our server. We split an individual pepperoni pizza, 6 slices, plenty for us. We had a couple of side salads and I had an IPA. For dessert, the churros and ice cream. Very yummy. Food was good, service was good. Maybe a little loud as it is now more of a sports bar. The Stanley Cup was on so there was yelling every time the Avalanche scored. No TB fans in the house. The location is on the main drag of Prospect St. Lots of people watching from a window seat. Afterwards, a short walk down to the Cove, which is lovely. We definitely recommend The Spot.

Decent food but not the best

By Kathryn L |

We went to this place based on the great reviews my brother-in-law had heard. I had the salmon plate with rice pilaf and vegetable primavera. The food was decent but not the best, in my opinion. It seemed like more of a bar and bar food place.

Choose another place

By Tourists Kaplanek |

Hostess was rude. Seating time was ridiculous. Food was awful. I just cant think of a positive comment for this place. Wont be back.

Standard American fare, done well

By Kurtt B |

There isn't much about this place to really set it apart, but what they do they do quite well. The pizza was very good, though not excellent. The lamb burger was very tasty but certainly not medium rare as ordered. Overall, it was more or less a much higher-quality Applebees, but in the end mostly forgettable.

Great Local Haunt

By Danforthdan |

If you like being in a place that makes you feel like everyone in welcome...this is it! Amazing local establishment that is relaxing and fun. And a shout out to our server Margaret! She was awesome! We had the Jambalaya and fish tacos. Yummy!

Lousy place to go

By wallace014_12 |

Lousy place not to go. The bad service and the food to say. All expensive and poor quality. I have no doubts the bad place of La Jolla

Surprisingly nice for a resort town

By TheKs42 |

Good location, good food, good service, good price. We were very pleased with our lunch choice and would definitely return again.

Pizza and lobster

By BenitoM |

Out walking around town and we got brought in by their lobster dinner advertisment. It was a great deal and an excellent lunch in a cozy building. While there, we noticed how delicious the pizza looked and decided we'd order takeout after we got done with our NYE partying. Although most of us don't remember it, pretty sure it was delicious.

Walking through La Jolla in San Diego

By Federico C |

On the coast of San Diego we were looking for a place for a good dish and in fact I confirm what I have read in other reviews. We ate outdoors, very friendly staff, fast service and the salads we had were very good. Recommended for a quiet meal between one walk and another.

Great Local Restaurant for simple, easy-going meal.

By Mloeser15 |

We were looking for a quick less-formal dinner in La Jolla after long day and Spot met the need perfectly. A casual restaurant with a nice broad menu was idea for when looking to eat casual and not break the bank in La Jolla. We had (2) pizzas and they were delicious. In addition, the staff was very friendly and made us feel comfortable, including recommendations on other items to check out in the area. Would highly recommend Spot to anyone in the La Jolla area.

Great

By Rob G |

best wings in la jolla! a bit overpriced but the food is pretty good. their fries aren't that great though.

Pizza!

By brentflanders |

We had our 35th anniversary dinner (pizza) here. After finding this place 30+ years ago, whenever we're in La Jolla, we're going to The Spot.

The WORST restaurant service experience ever!

By PeeplesHomes |

The Spot has always been a family favorite. A tradition to take visiting family members to this restaurant for an enjoyable evening This evening was an exception that has tainted our impression. The waitress was non attentive and curt. Not gracious at all. Quickly took our orders , ran off and much later showed up with one order of 3 orders, ( a pizza), ran off and never returned to the table until much later. 23 minutes later our other two dinners showed up, ( tacos and ribs.) We complained to the waitress, who ran off to the kitchen to tattle on us and the so called "owner", (perhaps the owner's son) came out to address the lateness and lack of gracious service. He was incredibly rude and insolent. Made for an unpleasant occasion. Wont go back even though an old family favorite. Have never been treated so rudely and unkindly. It would have only taken an apology and an effort to right the awful service. The waitress and the so called "owner" don't fathom the idea of service and graciousness.

Good food!

By Paula P |

Just a few steps from the Grande Colonial hotel. We had the bacon cheeseburger and the fish and chips. Both were excellent! Would def. visit again.

Great Experience, Great Food

By Woohoo451 |

Came here on a whim while walking the area and our experience couldn't have been better. The food came out quick and was absolutely delicious. The best part about the experience was how awesome the staff was to our 1.5 year old daughter. There were three families in our area in our area with young children and the staff was absolutely amazing. Super accommodating to our challenges as parents with young kids.

Happy Hour Dinner

By Andrew G |

We took our 7 and 10 yr old here on an early Monday evening. There was no wait and we were seated promptly. The waitress was very friendly and had suggestions on food and drinks. Because it was happy hour we had draft craft beer for 5 bucks and half off appetizers. The main courses were out quickly and were very good. I thought the price was a little on the high side but nothing too bad.

A regular place, not a tourist trap.

By 63Mark63 |

Yes, a pub, but with some interesting menu entries, such as the blackened Cajun lamb chops, available as an appetizer or main course, garlic mashed potatoes and onion strings. Tasty! The back ribs were equally good and they even did a good job on the fries. Service was friendly and efficient.

The spot for lunch

By Sa-i44 |

My husband and I were looking for a quick spot for a nice lunch. We are familiar with La Jolla, but had never eaten at The Spot. It was early and the restaurant was quite empty. We got a nice booth by the window as the back tables are a bit dark. The menu is a fairly typical lunch menu with salads, sandwiches and plates. I had the avocado Caesar which was tasty but had a bite to it. My husband had the soup and 1/2 sandwich combo with onion soup (for and extra charge) and chicken panini. The soup was excellent. There is s full bar which I imagine is quite full in the evenings. The place is decorated with old photos of La Jolla.

Searching For Lunch And Found A Good One

By pmx2 |

We were wandering around La Jolla looking for a place for lunch on a very busy holiday week and stopped at The Spot. Turned out to be a good choice. We had a group of 8 so two tables of 4 was possible. This is a noisy sports bar/restaurant and I am surprised that people complain about the noise. But I digress. To start...get the pickle chips because they are great. And I don't generally like them. In our group we had a variety of sandwiches and salads and all were good/very good. I had a Cuban Panini that was large and very good. My wife had the Chicken Pesto Panini that was average. The server was a bit rushed but did well. I would return.

Small But Good

By Jonathan P |

Limited seating overall but great food. Very good service too. We had the garlic cheese fries and pretzel for appetizers. Both were very, very good. Pizza, French dip, and fish tacos for meals. All very good. Two fish tacos per plate. If you are not a very hearty eater, you will not be able to eat both. Plenty of food on all dishes. Large menu that will work for all tastes. Plenty for kids to eat. Decent beverage selection.

Very good food

By Sunnybreezetravelkiki |

This is a great bar/restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The servers were very nice and attentive. The food portions were large and filling.

SPOT on!

By SWT1999 |

I LOVE this place! We eat here every time we visit San Diego. Everything is delicious and the service is always good too. They have a great kid's menu. I've had their hamburgers, salads pizza and sandwiches. My husband always gets the spicy jambalaya pasta. He says it's the best he's ever had. We actually went there twice on our last trip. The first night I got a pizza and the second time, I got the California chicken club. I highly recommend this place!! Parking can be a little hard on a Sunday afternoon but the Spot is worth the walk! :-)

Great menu

By Michael L |

Stopped in the to watch the World Series. Lots of fun. Good food, large menu. Service was very good. Mike our waiter was very helpful Location was perfect for us.
