Great family dining

By auvoir |

Went with local family at their suggestion and really enjoyed the evening. Service was excellent and the food was wonderful, from appetizer to entree. A very nice chocolate dessert served on the house to celebrate a birthday. Would definitely return to retry more of the great items on the menu.

Good food, service left something to be desired

By BreezyTraveler06 |

Visited this place with friends for brunch. We ate at the Washington location. They had valet parking which was great. The ambiance is really nice, and the place is clean and modern. Most of the food was GREAT, and worth a return trip. The pasties were really good and Eggs Benedict as well. We had one issue with the chicken and waffles dish, where the chicken appeared to be a little undercooked. We took one bite and asked to send it back. The manager's response to this was a black look at us and a sardonic chuckle, after which he grabbed the plate without word, & immediately stormed off. I'd return for the food, but I'd suggest they train their managers about diplomacy and customer service. Other customers may not ignore the rudeness as politely as I did.

Valentine's Day Brunch

By Deborah M |

I thought what I ordered would be good. However, my eggs bendict would have been better if my poached eggs had not been COLD.

Mother's Day Brunch

By chicp21 |

The Memorial location is great, easy access and parking. Our waitress Peyton was great and is just her 4th day on the job! The food was very good. My favorite was the spinach and crab omelet and the donut appetizer with cranberry mimosa's.

Interesting! But room for improvement

By jonahElaine |

Uniion Kitchen is an interesting new addition to the Houston restaurant scene. 2 locations provide a wide range of above average fare. Noise level is a problem that needs to be addressed. Wide range of wine is offered and the portions are large...too large for my taste. A good neighborhood restaurant that is trying hard....just cut down the noise level please.

Mixed emotions - Food A+, Service B

By Musthavemusic |

This was our second visit. First visit was terrific. But Visit #2 left a bit to be desired. Issues: 1.Restaurant is almost empty and the hostess seats a group of 4 gregarious millenials next to me and my wife. We literally couldn't hear ourselves over the chatter (not to mention the whining baby in the back of the room someplace.) 2. Waitress tells us the special of the day while she is chewing gum....stopping mid sentence to catch breath, take another couple of chomps, and then continue. 3. Bread plate had old dried food from poor washing. Yup I'm kinda picky, but this is not Mickey D's - It's a white linen restaurant - I want white linen service

WOW

By TXflyfisher |

I did not expect such a great meal and service from this small chain restaurant. Yet my meal and that of my guest was perfect. The waitress was great and the manager came to check on us. Now the best part, it is affordable. As a foodie, I rarely find this high quality of food for such a reasonable price. Even the drinks were fun.

Great salad

By gravesky |

A beautiful spring day in Houston and we wanted a filling fresh lunch. I had the blackened shrimp avocado Cobb salad. However, I had them withhold the "blackened" aspect. This was a great salad! My friend ordered the grilled shrimp salad. This was in a spring mix and beautifully presented. Although either of us thought we could finish the entire entree-we did. The only reason I have not added another star is due to the bread. The waiter said it was the dough they were working with that day- but the bread was like several day old dry stuff. I mean we couldn't even find a section within the loaf that was even somewhat moist. He told us prior that it was not up to standards and even brought us more butter to make it palatable. That didn't work. Aside from that issue, I would return here.

Great Experience at Union Kitchen, Kingwood

By Larry G |

This is one of several Union Kitchens in the Houston area. We went there last night with another couple. Three of us ordered their Filet. All three of us said is was the best steak we could remember. It was prepared just right! Our server was very attentive but not pushy. We went with a groupon but were treated like full paying customers. When we arrived, we were seated in a place too cool for my wife, so the hostess gladly moved us to a comfortable location. The appetizer and desert were well portioned and excellent as well. While a little pricy, the food was plentiful and excellent. We will be returning.

Great brunch and service

By little_castaldo |

I had a great omelette, and my husband really enjoyed their french toast for brunch. I had a 10-mile run that morning, so I literally was drinking a glass of water every 4 minutes, but they always managed to keep my glass full. It was the little things, but I was very impressed. I also had to ask for low-sodium/no salt, and they were able to easily accommodate me. They food was delicious, the patio was great (they had fans on, so it was really pleasant). We will definitely return.

Love this place, but disappointing dinner

By jld4243 |

We have eaten at Union Kitchen many times and have always had excellent food and service. It has always been a favorite. About 3 weeks ago I went with friends for lunch. I made a reservation ahead of time and requested a table outside, due to the noise inside and 2 diners with hearing problems. I was very specific and was told we would definitely have a table outside. When we arrived, there were no outside tables. We had to wait for around 20 minutes. OK - one mistake. Food was excellent. Last night we had a party of 4 and again asked for an outside table. We were seated inside. It was noisy. When with acquaintances, we will not make a fuss. I usually order steak and did not realize that they have no menu for special diets. They need to fix this, in my opinion. I must eat gluten free. There was very little on the light side that I could order. The waitress was kind and checked. They could make a chicken breast with fresh vegetables and alfredo sauce on the side. I was guaranteed this would be gluten free. It was gluten free. The chicken “breast” was 3 very thin (1/8 inch) small pieces of overcooked chicken that were salty. The alfredo sauce was watery and salty ( I tasted, but did not use) The vegetables were nice and crisp - but spicy! The dinner was overpriced. I was never asked if I liked my meal - the others who had steak were asked. Service was so - so . We will go back, but if things don’t get back to the way they were, we will not return. There are over 7,000 restaurants in Houston. No need to spend big bucks on a sub-par meal.

Great place

By sooner_orchid |

Come here often for happy hour after work. I do not feel in a crowded bar atmosphere, instead it is a great restaurant in my neighborhood with good ambiance and convenient bar area.

Disappointed in food and especially service

By TechMarauder |

This might be the most overpriced restaurant for the quantity and quality in Houston. I used a groupon and I still felt ripped off. The food was edible but not remarkable and served lukewarm. The service was really slow and inattentive. Overall, there are much better places to eat.

An excellent restaurant for food and entertainment!

By S S |

The Memorial Dr. location often has entertainment on the patio. I went on a Sat evening and was seated outside even though I didn't have a reservation. My waiter, Alan, was very attentive and made a wine recommendation which was wonderful. I ordered the snapper and had key lime pie for desert. It was a great evening. 2 thumbs up!!

Neighborhood Gem

By ABLM |

I have eaten here 4 times now (Bellaire). Most recently twice in one week. The food here is always excellent. The service has been good 4/5 times. They have a very tasty weekend brunch and I love the bottomless mimosas! Great wine selection, kid friendly, lovely outdoor patio. The cookie ice cream sandwich is a must. I keep going back to try new things. Can't sing enough praises of this place. You won't be disappointed!

Always good service

By TX13SR13 |

Service at this location has always been great. Nice place for small business meetings. Food and drinks are good. Worth stopping in for lunch or dinner if your in the area.

Great food in a very nice atmosphere

By BKEK1987 |

My wife and I had dinner here before going downtown to the theater. This restaurant was flooded in September by Hurricane Harvey, and they restored it and reopened within a few weeks. The menu has a wide range of items from pizza to elegant dishes. Our food was excellent, and we will be back!

Love this hidden treasure

By SharonTravelerII |

We love this little neighborhood restaurant. Staff is very friendly and professional. The avocado with crab is amazing. Add the onion strings, and it's a meal.

Good Service, but .....

By jld4243 |

We have dined at Union Kitchen several times, mostly for dinner and with coupons. I don't recall having a problem with my gluten allergy. I had lunch there today with friends. The food and the service were good. The problem was their lack of menu items and concern for people with food allergies. I am Gluten Intolerant. Their small plates had only one item which I could order. There was nothing on the lunch menu that I could order, except for 3 different salads. I finally ordered a hamburger - no bun. It turned out that I could not have any of the accompaniments. I ended up with a hamburger patty with bacon and cheese (very good), lettuce, tomato and pickle. No onion rings, no sauces, no chips, no bun. Kinda expensive for what I had. They have wonderful homemade chips, but they cook them in the same grease that is used for flour coated foods. How hard would it be to have one frier for non-coated items like chips and fries? We were celebrating 2 birthdays and received 2 complimentary desserts. One was for me and I could not eat it either. Really?? I was told that it was delicious. Even the menu was difficult to read, concerning food allergies. No separate menu, just very small symbols beside the very few items which I could order. There are so many restaurants in Houston that show concern for those of us with food allergies. I wish The Union Kitchen would join that group.

Great little restaurant!

By Ann B |

My cousin took us to the memorial location, and we had a delicious fried avocado stuffed with crab along with a prosciutto pizza that was wonderful, too!

Business lunch

By Jon B |

Went to Union Kitchen at the recommendation of a client, and was very impressed. The atmosphere had a "local" flavor, and the server, Katie, was very genuine, and made us feel like we were regulars. The food was excellent, and the selection was great.

Terrific value with Groupon

By Steve S |

The Union Kitchen on Memorial in West Houston is a few miles from us, so when they appeared on Groupon offering 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, and two desserts for $70 (up to a $162 value) we thought we'd give them a try. The interior is very smart and was near to capacity, but we opted for the outdoor seating which was comfortable and cool enough with the fans. We were very happy with our food - spinach/artichoke dip and crab cakes for appetizers, crab-stuffed shrimp and scallops for entrees, and the chocolate tower and crème brulee for dessert. Each was well-prepared and brought promptly by friendly wait staff. They also have a pleasant wine list and about 8 draft beers on tap. It did take a while to get the check brought out, but when you're paying $140 (including drinks, tax and tip) for a $210 meal it's all good. Terrific value and a pleasant evening.

Birthday

By L4221HQrichardb |

Always enjoyed Sunday brunch here. Invited out for my birthday and chose Union. A great decision. Calamari appetizer was nicely prepared and our waiter's recommendation of a Napa chablis was a great match. We all odered different entrees and shared a taste of each. Dinner was complimented with a Dry Creek Cab, and dessert was a beautifully presented chocolate/raspberry mousse and a glass of Portuguese port. The meal and service were excellent, our waiter well versed in our wine selections. I will continue to recommend Union Kitchen for not only brunch but also for lunch and dinner.

Great place

By WEGO2017 |

During our family reunion, we stopped here for lunch one afternoon. We had some small plates, the pork Carnitas potstickers, Philadelphia cheesesteak with Cajun tater tot’s, BLT, broccoli soup, and prime rib sandwich. The food was great, and the service was excellent. The prices were moderate, but worth every penny.

Great Job!

By parisparis5 |

Nice new addition to this shopping plaza. The interior is warm and welcoming. I had the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich.....just yummy. The service is great...if your waiter is busy...they all pitch in to help. Great team effort for sure. Whatever you want, they will bring it. The menu is interesting and creative. The place is always packed which is a sign of a good thing. Bathrooms clean and orderly with up to date touchless fountains and paper towel dispensors. The entire restaurant appeared clean, neat, and well organized. Will visit again!

Nice atmosphere, food average

By hilkemakkink |

I ordered a medium rare stake and my colleagues ordered medium. Mine was almost well done, theirs were also all over the place. Brownies were bland. Funny how they let you taste open wine. Maybe they should have a look in the books why wine is tasted and when. Fries were overfried. Atmosphere was nice.

Easter Brunch

By RLV2 |

My daughter and I visited this restaurant for the first time Sunday. We had reserved through Open Table and were seated right away. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and within minutes of being seated our waiter appeared. There was a special Easter menu, brunch menu, or the regular menu from which to choose. Lots of options!! We chose the truffle Mac n cheese as our first course (my daughter lives Mac n cheese). It was awesome complete with fried onion on top. For the main course, we both chose brunch. She chose a breakfast sandwich ...Paul something. Can’t remember the name but it was very good and served with hash browns. Quite large so she brought home the other half. I chose the crab and spinach omelet which was great, also served with potatoes. The mimosa was wonderful as was dessert. We shared the creme brûlée chocolate mouse pie. I highly recommend it. The service was awesome considering how busy they were. We never had an empty glass or were overlooked at anytime. Will definitely go again as there were many items on the menu we’d like to try.

should have ordered an entree

By susan k |

I wasn't all that hungry, thought I would enjoy just a couple of sides. The grilled veg (broccolini) was good, but the mushrooms in Madiera was boring--just some chopped up shrooms in gravy. Would not order again. My friend's entrée was very good, she reported. Nice atmosphere in the evening, not overly expensive. the ginger margarita was good, paid around $7 for it. Good place for older children with adults, as the menu is extensive enough to please pickier eaters. Easy parking, free.

TUK is great for entertaining

By VOjoe |

We took two other couples to The Union Kitchen for dinner. They put us in the VIP room and started us with a glass of champagne since it was their 5th anniversary. We had fairly priced bottles of wine and wonderful entrees including snapper imperial, rainbow trout and tenderloin. Diego served us admirably. He and the rest of the staff made us feel welcomed. We will be back soon.

Great Dining

By txmom2015 |

I have eaten at this restaurant three times now and I've picked up take-out twice. The food is great and the service team is a pleasure.

"Great Food"

By Karen T |

This was a white table cloth brunch on a Saturday. The atmosphere here feels inviting, and friendly. I felt so comfortable there I didn't even feel like leaving. Went with a friend ....you must ask for Sam he is so entertaining! He describes the food, and all the food sounds so delicious...you can't even decide. You'll just have to go back Again!! I had an Eggs Benedict! Which has canadian bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise on English muffins. Was Just Grand....

Great Food and they offer coupons if you check online

By Bruce B |

My wife and I and generally with another couple eat here at least twice per month. They have outdoor eating as well as inside and music on the weekend. We particularly like the chops and my wife loves the Hamburger with Onion Rings. If you plan to go look for a coupon for the offer one every so often and it can help you cover the tip. This is a table cloth restaurant in a very nice neighborhood. Casual with good service and a large selection. They have a large choice of beer and a full bar. Can be noisy if the bar crowd is watching a game but still great. Houston in the summer is hot and humid so we eat inside most of the time.

Skip it

By Staci T |

We were here for brunch on Sunday. It was ok. Service was average. Kept having to ask for drink refills. Food was overpriced and bland. French toast was pure mush. Lobster omelet had zero flavor other than the sour cream they filled it with. Was supposed to have cheese, but it seemed to be MIA. Horrible. There are too many much better choices in the area.

Excellent

By Jerry Bob B |

Six for dinner. Most hot steak. I got ahi on wonderful rice based bed of yummy stuff. Everyone said their meals were excellent. Good service and setting.

New neighborhood gem

By BLG_houston |

First, they take reservations which is helpful as they get very busy on Fridays and Saturdays. Great food at a reasonable price. The pizzas are creative and big enough for 2, and the small plates are great for sharing. Serive can be slow sometimes

Great food and atmosphere

By Nicholas Chin |

love going here for dinner sometime. place is packed and waiters are friendly. food is great as usual

Great Food and Wine

By Jeanne M |

Great location on Memorial Drive not far from Sam Houston Tollway. Modern, clean décor with excellent wait staff. Food and wine were excellent.

Fabulous brunch

By rhindan |

We had the Colorado omelette and the ponders omelette. They were really great! The service was exceptional. What a great brunch place!

Service still good but we were disappointed in the food this time

By Michael L |

I reviewed the restaurant after our last visit in October 2012 when we had a wonderful experience, but this time we were disappointed. We were seated immediately and our service was great. The waiter was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. The food, however was a big disappointment. We had the pork belly "small plate" and it was dry and had no flavor. The "Vuelve A La Vida" was way too much red sauce and the seafood was microscopic in size. Very little flavor other than the sauce. Our mains were about the same. I was excited to see the Porkabucco on the menu and although it was a very generous portion it was more like soup, and had little flavor. The potatoes were completely submerged in the sauce and I had to be very careful not to spill all over my self. My wife reported her fish was very dry and little flavor. For dessert we had the bread pudding and it was served cold, had little flavor and was very dry. Again, one of our favorites, this was disappointing.

Nice ambiance

By TED_5757 |

Food was good. Ordered the carnitas appetizer and pizza. Food could have been warmer but this is not a deal-breaker. Will definitely return.

Delicious Food. Awesome atmosphere.

By Omar R |

This is a very nice neighborhtge ood restaurant. The food was very good and flavorful. Our waiter wasn't the best, but we didn't let it take away from our enjoyment. The outside seating was nice and had the added bonus of live music. I very much recommend this restaurant and encourage you to sit outside.

Excellent neighborhood restaurant with great service

By TexasBuyer |

The Union Kitchen is a small chain of three restaurants. The Memorial Drive location is located about 1 mile east of Beltway 8. This is a neighborhood gem that offers a good selection of "fancy" casual dining in a relaxed atmosphere. The service is excellent and very attentive. There are even artisan pizzas, salads, assorted pasta and seafood dishes. Since the restaurant is in a large strip-mall shopping center, there is plenty of parking.

Surprising Below Average Experience

By Emon Z |

I've been to this place several times with family and work. Both for lunch and dinner. But this week's family dinner visit food was substantially below average. The rating I gave is because the service was great as usual but if it was rating the food, I would give them a 2 out of 5. We ordered the Houston Restaurant Week specials - my wife had the chicken and I had the shrimp. Chicken was way over cooked and the roasted potatoes were very dry. The Jumbo shrimp also did not taste fresh. Only conclusion and suggestion I have is avoid the specials if you go this month. My previous experiences at this place were much better and the food tasted fresh.

Nice brunch!

By ingedino |

Got to this place looking for another brunch option. We had a great time. Hostess were very respectful and our waiter was very friendly. Many options on their brunch menu at affordable prices. Enjoyed the bottomless mimosas and my kids had a huge serving of waffles...I enjoyed the omelet bowl, which was very good.

Average. Average. Average.

By Bruce R |

Nothing really distinguishes The Union Kitchen. Average service, average food and average value with strip mall ambience.

Wonderful Lunch

By TAMAN1951 |

Met a friend for lunch. What a pleasant surprise. A nice bottle of wine reasonably priced started the lunch off. The special was a pecan crusted trout with crabmeat topping and lemon butter sauce. Yummy. Nice potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts made a great compliment. Super attentive service. Fair prices.

Christmas party

By Brian W |

My wife and I attended a Christmas party there last weekend and the waiter assisting us was FANTASTIC!!! The food was really good too. A couple of tweaks are needed to get to a 5 star. I helped another friend organize the event and it was difficult emailing with the manager. She wasn't super on top of her email. We asked for individual 4 topper tables but the room was set up as one long table which ended being OK but not what we initially requested. The food bill was on one ticket and they dutifully separated it out but a few guests personal alcohol errently ended up on the bill. Overall good food and service. Would go again and would have an event there again as well.

sunday brunch

By Henry C |

seated quickly, separate checks for group with no problems. Got union brunch special portion was averagely decent for about 10 bucks.

Great place to have lunch

By Finley90 |

Went with my mother and sister for lunch. The menu was interesting with many choices. I had the chicken salad and it was wonderful. The place is very busy at lunch but the wait staff is excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for a good reasonably priced place for lunch and/or dinner.

Food was excellent and reasonably priced

By Michael L |

We went with two other couples and everyone enjoyed their meal. The most popular was the Union Burger which three of us enjoyed. They cooked each one as requested and they were presented well with a trio of onion rings on top. Others at the table had crab cakes, mussels, and a couple of their salads.

Dinner

By C7562WPkenb |

We drive a long way (about 25 miles) from far west Houston area to come here. Always find the service friendly and the food very good. Great salads and entrees. Can’t wait for the new one to open in Katy.

Lovely dinner on the patio

By jazzmom57 |

Made a 7:30 dinner reservation on a Friday night and were seated promptly on the side patio at our request. A small jazz trio was playing, adding to the atmosphere. Our server, Jeremy, was attentive and pleasant. I ordered the UK burger, which did not disappoint! Large, juicy and well dressed. My companions ordered a Caprese salad, veg pizza and the pork chop, all delicious. This was our second visit to UK and will definitely recommend and return!

Poorly cooked chicken dish

By TRHinHouston |

I like the outside seating - a lot, but the chicken dish was severely overcooked and dry, a dead giveaway that there are amateurs in the kitchen. Maybe they can make a good pizza, but I don't think I'll be going back unless I want something REALLY simple.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

By Maureen C |

I was in Houston for my nieces wedding & during the weekend we had the opportunity to have dinner at The Union Kitchen. Everything, & I mean everything was fantastic. We were 4 tables outdoors in our own spot/section. We must have been a total of 24. The food was delicious. Everyone said the same thing. I had the Miso Salmon which was perfectly plated. Not only was the food terrific....the service was STUPENDOUS!! My water glass was never empty...and, if you know me you know I drink A LOT of water. I don't eat out often. Not only because of the pandemic, but because we are so often disappointed. Treat yourself to a meal here & enjoy.

Good food, great service

By Ron A |

Recently found this restaurant on Memorial Dr. Very good food, with good selections and wide range of choices. Service has been outstanding every time we've gone. The chili is an excellent starter and the lemon cake is one of the best desserts in town.

This is my third and worst review. Restaurant seems to be in a prolonged downtrend.

By Michael L |

We have been going to Union Kitchen for several years because our first experience was very good. Unfortunately the downtrend continues. Food was average but came to the table cold. All of our dinners. It was late and we chose not to have them redone, but lukewarm pizza was not a good thing. It was also soggy, not crisp. One of our group was a big fan of the Union Burger and was extremely disappointed in the downsize in the portion size. Too much stuff, not enough beef. One of our group ordered a glass of wine that never showed up. Server was OK but seemed distracted and disinterested. Not friendly. No suggestions, no indication he was glad to see us.

Always a pleasant trip to the U.K.

By ScovilleUnits |

Another great dinner. We had the rainbow trout and the special that night, black drum. An appetizer of crab cakes and a creme brulee for dessert were both excellent. UK has a very good wine list at reasonable prices, bottle or glass. The service is attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommended.

Restaurant week

By Jennylynn65 |

My husband and I chose this restaurant because it was on restaurants week list and was close to my two sisters, who joined us for dinner. Food and service was good. We would go here again anytime.

a little pricey, but....

By gambler2016 |

had dinner here with friends. Service was great. Wait staff attentive and pleasant. The crab stuffed avocado I had was wonderful. Would definitely stop in again.

Good experience

By Steve S |

We stop fairly often for lunch. We come early because restaurant is popular and fills up a bit later. Service is attentive, food is very good, and served promptly. We always have a good experience and continue to come back.

Neighborhood Gem!

By SuzyQinHou |

My husband and I eat here almost weekly, and have never been disappointed. (Memorial location). We usually go for lunch, and I can highly recommend any of their soups or salads (chopped salad is amazing! and enough to share). The chicken / avocado sandwich and burgers are both equally wonderful. Onion rings and potato chips are homemade and not greasy at all. Recently we went for dinner, and it was so good, I just had to write about it. Do NOT miss the bone-in veal chop over wild mushroom risotto. OMG! It was not only one of the best meals I've had there, but in the top meals ever! It was so good, I had the leftovers for breakfast the next morning! Also, have to mention the fabulous prices on wine. While most restaurants double or triple the price of wine, the owner has made a choice to only mark his wines up 10%. Great selection and prices. For example, a bottle of Jordan Chardonnay that is $80 at Carrabba's or elsewhere is only $45. Great bargain, and it keeps the crowd coming back. And often!

Delicious lunch and attentive service

By aggiemom0409 |

My husband and I stopped in for lunch recently and the food was delicious and the service was attentive, as well. We'll go back!

Great Service from Violet

By Richard Y |

Six of us had a casual dinner on 27 Feb and was served by Violet who was really friendly and helpful. Three of us had the Meatloaf based on the suggestion of Violet as it was their speciality. We enjoyed it but not outstanding. However Violet's service and attention made up for it. My wife enjoyed the sea bass which was tasty as i had a piece because she could not finish it! I will go back and try another dish!

We went for my Birthday

By Mark D |

My wife and I live in the Memorial area. My birthday was this past Wednesday 6/10. We have plenty options of places to go in Houston but she loves their burger. We sat at the bar, our place of choice always. The waiter behind the bar was of color and clearly did not want to wait on us because of our skin color. I'm highly offended. Even though his actions were in poor taste, we never said a word. We paid for our drinks and left (I tipped him the standard 20%). We went to another establishment in the Memorial area. Extremely disappointed in the actions of this employee.

Avoid the Loyalty Card being sold for $25

By Jim D |

Nice little neighborhood restaurant; noisy but acceptable food. Don't get caught in their $25 Loyalty Card trick. You will be told you will get the $25 refunded on a subsequent meal. It isn't true. The misrepresentation will affect our use of the restaurant.

Great food

By Tnvol01 |

I went with friends for dinner. We had the burger, shrimp, salmon and everyone enjoyed their food. Appetizers we had were asparagus wrapped in bacon, calamari and baked Brie All were delicious but my favorite was the calamari. Presentation of the food is beautiful Great place to go with friends. The menu is varied so everyone should be able to find something they like

Great neighborhood restaurant

By Rael E |

We eat there every few months. Very close to where we live. Starters always great. Entrees are varied and tasty. I always like the salmon. Great selection of pizzas. Desserts are more than adequate although they seem to lack creativity.(just a minor criticism). Service is always good. Essentially my family really enjoys this place. All in all, a great neighborhood restaurant, but I wouldn't drive more than a few miles to eat here.

Great dinner

By Jkren |

Seated promptly for our 730 pm reservations on Friday evening. Our server Jeremy made it a great evening, his service was outstanding. Food was delicious and the live jazz music on the patio a very nice touch.

Great service

By Big_Dave75 |

The Union Kitchen is a great restaurant. We were seated promptly upon entering with our 7:00 pm reservation. We decided to dine outside on the patio since it was a pleasant evening and there was also live music there. The whole dinner was very nice and made for a wonderful dining experience. Service was top notch. We we greeted almost immediately after sitting down and offered wine menu and drink orders taken. I went with a shocktop draft which came out ice cold it a tall pilsner glass served with an orange, just like I like it. Our waiter took our dinner orders and asked if we would like bread. The bread was good served with a compound butter that had a lot of garlic in it. For appetizers we chose the crab stuffed avocado and Brianna's baked brie. Both were very good and nice choices. The crab avocados were lightly fried and tasted wonderfully. The crab and avocado combination was terrific. The baked brie was also tasty and the fig preserves it was served with complimented the brie nicely. They did not give enough crackers however and we requested more which were quickly brought to the table. I chose the Pete's filet Mignon as my entree and wife selected the bone-in veal chop. Both of these were really good. The filet was cooked perfectly and had a nice beef flavor to it. The vegetables it was served with were not raw and not overcooked so that was good. Potato gallette it had on the bottom was nice and crispy and soaked up the juices from the steak. The veal chop was absolutely delicious. I would order that in a heartbeat next time I go. The risotto it was served with was also tasty and cooked perfectly. The tawny port reduction on the chop put the whole thing over the top. We split a dessert which was the banana foster crepe. It was very good and I would recommend it highly. The crepe was tender and the banana mixture tasted great. It is served with ice cream and a nice ending to a wonderful meal. Service was good from start to finish. Drink refills were offered and not asked for which is a plus. Plates were removed promptly after we were finished with the courses. The music was nice and made for a good dinner experience. We will definitely be returning to this location in the future.

Just... Not Good

By Vic777_12 |

I was so excited about the eclectic menu joining surf and turf and Cajun. My blackened trout was not blackened and had little seasoning. The dirty rice was cold and bland. The truffle Mac n cheese tasted like someone emptied a bottle of truffle oil on it. My wife's drink tasted like lemonade that had been left in ice. The wine was brought out first so it just got warm while we waited. The dessert was good though but that doesn't warrant coming back for a $100 dinner. There are too many great restaurants in Houston and I kept thinking of them and wishing I was there.

Has something changed here?

By Mark D |

We have always had pleasant experiences at this Union Kitchen. But something didn't feel right last nite. Seems like perhaps a lot of staff turnover perhaps? Our waiter could never get our drink orders right. He always asked if everything was ok, but never came to refill water glasses. And then he brought the wrong check to our table. Food was good, but not as good as usual. Left feeling pretty meh about the whole experience.

Not a good dining experience

By takatrip2 |

We live nearby; have eaten here before; will not eat here again; gone too far down. Slow service; questionable food quality; and there are many other better options nearby. Lunch on 09/28/2019; third-full restaurant; long wait; extremely greasy and inedible food. Spoke with James Repperger, Manager; declined his gift card offer; and paid our full bill, plus tip, and left. Do not often write reviews, but felt it necessary to do so. Never believed free stuff is a reason for pointing out shortcomings.

First visit - will definitely be back

By HoustonHendon |

We tried the Union Kitchen for the first time on Valentine's Day, always a risky move, but were really pleased with the experience. Our reservation was honored with no wait, and the service was very efficient on one of the busiest nights of the year for any restaurant. We both enjoyed our entrees, and they also had a creative drink selection along with a very nice wine list. My wife has a food allergy, so gluten-free options are important, and there were several entrees to choose from which were labeled gluten-free. We didn't have room for dessert but the options looked really good too. We'll certainly be back, this was very good food and the staff was very friendly.

worst experience ever

By lateechia t |

The worst experience ever!!!!! We decided to do brunch here on a Saturday, arrived at the restaurant at 11 o'clock, received drinks at 11:15 and that was it, the waitress never came back to see if we were ok or if we ready to order or anything. At 11:40 I finally decided to get up and request a manager to advise him of the poor service and he states he would send over another server. Low and behold he sends the african american waiter like really send the black guy to handle the black women who are complaining (insult #1). After we ate and waited on the bill for 40 mins(requested at 1 and did not receive until 1:40) they automatically charged gratuity to our bill(it was only 5 of us and gratuity is 6 or more people) when this was brought to the managers attention he brought back the revised tickets. Now my card was charged still for the wrong amount right at that moment, I called them to let them know of the mistake and was told by a manager that its clear in black and white and they did not make the mistake maybe my bank did(insult #2) so now you call me a liar and tell me my bank statement is incorrect and maybe my bank places holds when the card is used at a restaurant like really you think i am that stupid huh. I wouldn't recommend this establishment to any one. This was my 1st and last time visiting this place of business. Failure to recognize when they were wrong and they way i was spoken to over the telephone was an absolute no go for me.

An Absolute Gem!

By arienne410 |

I never noticed this place, as often as I drive down Memorial, until I met a friend here for lunch. Better late, than never, this place is a real find! The service was excellent, even though the place was packed on a weekday afternoon. I got the Spicy Chicken Wrap; it had just the right amount of spicy. We shared an order of Parmesan Truffle Fries that were to die for! My friend had an appetizer for her entrée, the Crab Stuffed Avocado, which she said was fantastic. They have different menus and there are a few locations around town. I will definitely be back, there were several items on the menu that I must try!

The best truffle mac in town coupled with wonderful service by Cynthia E.

By Amy S |

Dined here the other day and the food was wonderful. Had a chopped salad and the truffle mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was the best I have ever tasted. They also top it with crushed potato chips which provides a crunchy texture which is a great balance with the creaminess of the truffle mac. Chopped salad was good! Service provided by Cynthia E. was fabulous! She answered all questions, was friendly, and came back to check on us.

Super cool

By Wep25 |

Elegant yet homey, hard to pull off. They do it with sophisticated food that is dang good and knowledgeable and friendly staff. Not inexpensive though!

Good food, good wine

By sherri p |

I had the salmon salad, my friend a sandwich, and the food was good although rather bland. The salmon was cooked to perfection and greens fresh. Wine was quite good too. Service bordered on hovering but we were eating a late lunch and the waiter didn't have much else to do. Rather pricey - my salad was $13 - but it was plenty of food. My friend's sandwich, on the other hand, was pricey and rather skimpy. Overall, I'd recommend but not as a regular place.

It's not the age thing!

By taurisano007 |

My husband and I had brunch at the Union kitchen a month ago and had the worst service ever and we thought it was because the waiter seemed a little bit young and inexperienced. Because the food is actually very tasty and different, we decided to give it another try this past weekend. The food is still as great as we remembered, but unfortunately the service is still as bad as the first time and this waiter was more mature, at least he looked more mature....so its not the age! Too bad we will not be going back, our waiter this time hardly came to the table to tend to us, our food was good but we were missing some items and by the time he came around we had finished our food. If you dont mind waiting and not having all the items you ordered when you start eating your meal, then by all means go there, the food is great.....I personally like my pancakes with syrup instead of dry and the coffee I ordered would have been great with those dry pancakes instead of having it when I got my check.

Wonderful food, used Groupon

By Daniel S |

Bought a Groupon for 2 starters, 4 entrees and 2 desserts and got a great deal. The food is amazing, brought some friends with me and they had never been so they very much enjoyed their food as well. We got the crabbed stuff avocado, steaks and chocolate mouse. Will continue going to the union kitchen, the groupon really is a great value if it's available.

Excellent lunch

By 19goSkins |

I have enjoyed two wonderful lunches on the patio at Union Kitchen. The blackened shrimp Cobb salad is fantastic with plenty of small shrimp and thick bacon, lots of avocado, blue cheese, etc. The patio made a beautiful day even better, but choose your table wisely. They blow the fans at a very high speed out there...my only (slight) criticism. I will be back!

Excellent meal, get the groupon for it if you can

By BenH989 |

My lady bought the groupon to go to the Union Kitchen because we kept hearing how great the food was. For $45 you get one app, two entrees, and a dessert, when you usually get them for places that are a little on the high side you are only allowed to pick from certain items, not here you had the entire menu to choose from. It was a Friday evening when we went so it was a little crowded and when we walked the hostess asked if we had a reservation, when we said no we got this y'all are idiots look back. It was a little warm to sit outside so we sat in the bar area which was fine. We started off with the crab stuffed avocado, which was then fried, oh it was fabulous. Then the bartender was going through the menu with us and she said the burger there is a main staple. Then she said she always challenges people to eat it since its so big so naturally I said challenge accepted. The burger was good, they serve it on a sweet soft bun, with a aioli sauce, lettuce, tomato, but then they stay three large onion rings on it which then make the burger huge. Yep I finished it.....The lady went with the crab stuffed shrimp over pico de gallo avocado cous cous which looked wonderful. For dessert we had the ice cream cookie, which was ok, the cookie was really hard, I expected it to be real soft. I will be going back to this place because everything on the menu read really good.

Very Good Houston Chain

By Jays911 |

This is one of a three or four place local Houston chain. Very nice. The bar was good, and the bartender knowledgable and friendly. The menu is broad. A plethora of appetizers, a wide array of salads, soups, burgers, pastas, burgers, seafood, and pizza. One of our group of five enjoyed a spicy pasta dish with chicken. My wife liked the simple lentil soup with carmelized onion, but thought it had a tad too much salt. We split two pizzas, a barbeque chicken and the spinach, chicken, and goat cheese variety (they were happy to drop the mozzarella at our request). Both were healthy and delicious. But my personal favorite was the chicken fried oysters. Very tasty. This is a fun restaurant, with good service and healthy options. Recommended.

Don't WAFFLE On This

By Rosalyn D |

Another celebratory event. We went for brunch and our choices were all excellent. We shared the Elvis Waffle and Union Donuts and could have had seconds on both. Between the omelets, pancakes, fried chicken and biscuits and other selections we all left very satisfied and longing for a nap. Our servers were very efficient and helpful. I'd recommend this spot for brunch anytime.

Ella Blvd new location

By cookdav |

Oh my, great food, great service, great atmosphere! I ordered the pecan encrusted chicken salad. The plate was huge with a whole flattened chicken breast served with salad greens. In the salad were whole blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, and was tossed w/a raspberry vinaigrette. Our server, Kenneth, was polite, attentive, and accommodating. I was a bit surprised at the elegance of the interior formal dining, but they also have a less dressy area at the front where you can sit at the (full) bar or table and watch TV!

A very good neighborhood restaurant.

By Chip S |

Eat here almost weekly. Surprised that Mgr. and host don't acknowledge recognition. We have selected a waiter who is fabulous. Sean. Always remembers preferences. Food is good. Consistent. Hamburger is over the top. Service excellent when Sean is there.

Delicious fresh foods with wonderful presentation.

By BJMILES |

This a must try for anyone looking for delicious fresh lunch or dinner. I love good food and I love this place. I've only visited the memorial location but I'm sure things are very similar between the other restaurants.

Terrible attempt at family dinner to celebrate son's birthday

By Jim D |

I've been to this restaurant several times but not in past 9 months. Don't know what has happened to it but this evening was really a bad dining experience. Service was extremely slow; one order was delivered wrong; some of the food was cold. If I had not been there before, I would never return. The reservation was made as a birthday dinner. No acknowledgement by restaurant of it being a celebration. We were embarrassed by the whole experience. Proceed with caution at his place.

Late Supper!

By Theresa R |

My son came into town one Tuesday evening, so my husband and I took him out for a late dinner. This place is close to were we live, so we thought we would give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. Being a Tuesday night and late, the food was excellent and service as well. The ambience is very nice and quiet. I did think it was a little pricey, but worth the price once we received the food. Tasty, and large portions. I took half of mine home for lunch the next day and it was still delicious. My son ordered a Cajun dish (the special), I ordered a chicken dish with risotto, and my husband ordered one of their pasta dishes. All very good. We had a creme brulee for dessert that we shared. That was just average. Will try again.

Spotty service, so-so food

By Betsy S |

There were 8 of us in our party on a week night for dinner. Parking availability was good and we were seated right away with our 6:30 reservations. Service was not very good. Our waiter, who stated he was a senior waiter of some sort, was not very attentive to our table. He had to be asked twice to bring bread, which was OK but nothing special. That said, he kept it coming when he was asked a second time. He disappeared for long periods of time, much of that time was spent yucking it up with the table next to ours. The wine, a cabernet, was quite good. Entrees were from fair to good at the table. What was annoying was the description given by the waiter and on the menu were not accurate. Several dishes came with different accompaniments than described. One dish was supposed to come with asparagus and nary a spear could be found on her plate. The Pasta Arellno was truly blah. Very bland tasting and I was not offered Parmesan cheese. The Shrimp Risotto was fair but nothing out of the ordinary. The Chilean Sea Bass was good. Desserts were pretty good. We had the stacked chocolate cake with mascarpone cheese which was tasty. I was disappointed overall. This place gets mostly good reviews and we had a long drive through traffic to get there to what my husband and I thought was an average dining experience. I would give it another chance if was located closer to home.

Relaxing Evening

By hollarm |

Gave this a try using a Groupon. It was close to home (almost too close). The service and food was excellent. The manager was crusing the restaurant making sure everyone was taken care of. We will definately go back. It gets crowded so make reservations.

Lunch

By DayTrip528602 |

We went to lunch yesterday , my husband my 7 yr old and myself, we ordered : fried calamari, an asian salad and a lobster sandwich,. The food was ok , the sandwich was not tasty at all and the bill was more than $60 usd!!! It was super expensive for my taste! I do NOT recomend this place at all!

Could be better

By Winemakertx |

A nice environment but somehow the food quality isn't up to standards or should I say not consistent, the Waite staff is inexperienced, we were rushed into ordering before our drinks had arrived, hope they improve

Great dinner experience.

By BSell44 |

First off, let me say it was a Monday night and the restaurant was moderately filled. Our server was very attentive and very personable. The meal came out quickly, everything was the proper temperature and everything tasted excellent. This restaurant did an A+ job tonight.

Great food!!!

By Gina B |

Everytime that I go, I'm impressed with the quality of the food. Great service. Not crazy expensive Seafood is my favorite. Great local gem. Will be back soon

$20 for scrambled eggs?

By Texbuckeye |

Just ate a $20 plate of scrambled eggs with a cup of coffee. It was supposed to be Chilaquiles but scrambled eggs lumped on some nacho chips doesn't quite get it at $12.50 a plate. There were some complimentary mini corn muffins which were tasty. The food wasn't bad just way overpriced for what was just a step above fast food. I've been here for dinner as well and I guess I should have learned my lesson. It's not bad just way overpriced for the quality.

Excellent Restaurant

By Colleen_Lingle |

One of my favorite spots for lunch. Menu is varied enough to satisfy everyone, classy atmosphere at a good price. Service is excellent, but it's not fast food - you will need a little time for your meal.

Brunch and More!

By Donyaann |

Union Station has an intriguing menu for lunch, dinner or weekend brunch. We had brunch. The Benedictus were wonderful, well cooked eggs and a good holland aisle. I had mine with crab cakes, which were excellent. One of my companions had the pancake sliders, and the other had the ranchero omelet. Don't miss the tiny muffins that come as an appetizer. Definitely a go-back experience.

Weekday lunch

By RebeccaMinn |

First time eating here for me, and it was a great experience from the moment I arrived. Greeted with a smile at the door, our server was attentive without rushing us out the door. Lunch menu was great, I wanted to taste everything! Pecan crusted chicken salad was delicious. Was nice not feeling rushed by our server to clear our plates and get out the door again to clear the table for someone else. Good atmosphere, reasonably priced, and loads of choice!

Union Kitchen, Kingwood, TX

By Robert H |

Overall, not impressed. The atmosphere was nice enough although seating is a bit close. Service was good. Food was meciocre for the price. DWs beef was charred, ( well done doesnt mean burnt ), mashed potatoes were fine, and the stuffed shrimp were just ok. Food temperature when delivered was not as hot as it should have been. Bartender needs to do something else for a living. The price accurately reflects the atmosphere, but food quality and taste does not.

Bad neighborhood restaurant

By CentauraHouston |

This is my first time to eat at this restaurant and I will not be going back. I was going to rate it "terrible" but the crab cakes were delicious. Other than that, our food was terrible. My sea bass was under-cooked and did not come with broccoli/cauliflower/carrots as described by the waiter. My granddaughter's pasta was so salty and had so much garlic she couldn't eat it (and we LOVE garlic). We asked for fruit and I guess all they had that night was melon. And this restaurant is pricey. However, I don't mind paying a lot for a good meal. This time I feel like I wasted hard earned money.

Cozy Gem in the Suburbs

By Luisa B |

I purchased a Groupon to Union Kitchen and really love this place. The food is delicious, so are their appetizers and desserts. The staff is wonderful, our server actually gave my daughter a stuffed animal to play with while we were eating dinner, and the singer in the patio is is very cool, creates a good ambiance. We can either go there with my 4-year-old, or just my husband and I for a nice adult dinner. I've just recently purchased yet another Groupon so I can go over there. I love it!!

Great food and excellent experience!

By FrequentFlier758754 |

My company held our Holiday Event at this location and they went above and beyond for us! Dana helped organize the breakfast menu and the food was wonderful and service was top notch!! Thank you all for an excellent experience!! We will definitely be back!

Sunday brunch was very good

By merlin0716 |

I came to this restaurant for a Sunday brunch with my 2 kids ,and we really enjoyed it . I had the Trio Benedict which was absolutely delicious . The kids had the traditional pancake /egg/bacon and shared the donut holes with Nutella . I do want to go back again and try the other items on the menu.

Large Outdoor Seating Area

By Delnor N |

We met some friends for dinner at TUK. The outdoor seating allowed us to enjoy a pleasant evening. A cover band provided live music. Our server was good, providing just the right amount of attention. The menu has a decent selection but our food was average. Would go back for the atmosphere.

Did not deliver

By Jonathan Paterson |

Went there based on the previous reviews on TA. Happy hour seemed like a good deal beer was cheap but domestic the asparagus and lump crab disappointed as the asparagus was very under cooked. The wait staff refused to accept this. In fact the service was poor throughout main courses very expensive there are far better places to eat locally than this would not recommend though ambiance was fine

Very popular and well known stop for good food

By 1234texas |

Our friends have been here numerous times and invited us to join them. They put it high on their list, and we can see why. The interior ambiance is very nice--well decorated with ample table distance. The service is good and friendly--they make you feel welcome. The entire property is clean and upscale. The menu is big and diverse. The food is excellent and decently presented. Parking is a little tight because the strip center is very high end and popular. There are sister properties in the Houston area.

Excellent!!

By travelsinger97 |

We stopped in to this restaurant and just had the best time! We started at happy hour. Amazing prices and great selection. Then we headed over to our table and the dinner and presentation were marvelous. Can't wait to get to Houston to go back again.

Another disappointing dining experience at Union Kitchen

By Evai S |

I made reservations and requested again that my party of five be seated in the raised level as we find it a bit quieter and less traffic. Also better service in that area. We were directed to another table near the restrooms and next to a large group with small children. This was a repeat of our prior visit. We had the same waiter which was also disappointing. Two in our group found the food poorly prepared....over- salted and the fish filet appeared to be "shaven" and blackened to the point of being burned. We will likely not return although we enjoyed our earlier visits there soon after opening.

Fresh. Flavorful. Fantastic.

By Donna B |

Lunch at the Union Kitchen (Memorial) was fantastic. I had the lobster grilled cheese and the tomato basil soup. DEEE-lish-ous. My daughter had the Ahi Tuna sandwich. I don't think either of us had a single bite left over. It was obvious the food was fresh AND freshly prepared. (The waiter told us they don't even have a microwave on the premises.) The flavors blended well and the food basically melted in our mouths. Nice atmosphere. Not cheap. Can get crowded but they accept reservations. We went at 11:45 and walked right in. We will go back.

Nice Change

By MissingtheCape |

Went to the Union Kitchen with friends. A friend had purchased a Groupon. It was very good. Our waiter, Craig, was great. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, what his favorites were and what customer's favorites were. We had the fried crab stuffed avacado and the portobello mushroom as appetizers. Both were great. Two members in the party had the Chilean seabass, one person had chicken parmesan, I had the pistachio crusted chicken. For desert we had the bananas foster and a chocolate tower. The chocolate tower was not okay, but not great. We went on a Saturday night and had a reservation, which was good because the restaurant was very croweded. We were seated in a corner room which made it not as noisy and better for conversation. This is not a chain restaurant and hopefully it will continue to do great in its Memorial area location. We will definitely be going back.

Nice place, average food.

By Mommymadness |

This restaurant is nice. The service is good and so is the food. But it's not GREAT food. I recently told someone who asked me about this place, "it's ok." Also, the last 2 times I've been there it's been super warm inside the dining room.

Love this place, but.......

By Hippotx |

Four of us dined here after church, had 4 different meals. Hubs liked his eggs, sausage patties, potatoes, and biscuit w/ gravy. Pancakes were flavorful, but had to ask for syrup. French onion soup was really good. The avocado toast had some issues. There were two pieces of toast, but only a smidge of avocado & two halves of a grape tomato on that piece. The other piece WAS avocado toast complete with the egg. Either serve two complete avocado toasts and sell just one piece. Also the toast should crunch. We've had many of the other dishes and still love this place. The sweet young lady serving us was obviously new & just needs to listen more to our orders and spend time trying to remember what she's supposed to say.

Best Bread pudding

By TexasBon |

There is a wide variety of great salads for lunch. I've only been there once for dinner & don't have a recollection of how it was. But their bread pudding doesn't have raisin, but does have raspberries served on the side and is made with a Creme Brulee sauce. Hands down, the best I've ever had. Sometimes we'll go elsewhere for dinner & I call & place an order of the bread pudding "to go" to pick up & take home.

Great Food and Good Times at the Union Kitchen

By Francie C |

On Saturday, November 1st, we went to the Union Kitchen for a spectacular meal. We had reservations at 7 for a table of 4 and the place was hopping. Our server, Wilfred, was exceptional and offered us a great overview of the menu with good recommendations. If we had known there was music, acoustic guitar player on their deck - we might have ventured outside. We had a great meal, good wine and drinks and wonderful Crème Brule - vanilla and chocolate. The manager also came over to help us determine what the brand was for their large wine chillers. Overall I would come back to this restaurant and try something new. Good times with our Shakespeare friends!

Disappointing Mother's Day Brunch

By Jeremy Z |

Family went to brunch on Mother's Day with a reservation. While we were welcomed warmly and seated immediately the experience was average and not what we expected. The menu was varied with nnumerous breakfast dishes my wife and daughter ordered the eggs benedict, which were average. I ordered the chilaquiles which tried to be more than tomato-based salsa piled on tortilla chips by adding a few slices of avocado and sour cream, but it wasn't. The server showed a level of exhaustion as she wished us a good evening (twice!) during the meal. They seemed to be more concerned with turnover than quality food offering and service.

Nice quaint restaurant

By SingaporeanJenn |

I purchased a Groupon voucher and we drove there last night for dinner. The restaurant deco was nice and had a good wine selection. We ordered the crab avocado as an appetizer. It was awesome! The avocado was huge and a little spicy. My husband ordered the bone in veal as an entree. The risotto was really delicious. I ordered the chilean sea bass. Really light and tasty. Finally we had the brownie for dessert. The portions are really huge and my husband had food coma after our dinner. Would definitely return again to try the Union Burger!

Really Nice Dinner

By Dennis M |

My wife and I were in town for a business meeting and decided to look for a nice place in the Memorial area. We had been to the Union Kitchen on Bellaire and decided to try this restaurant. We were there for an early dinner so the service was really good. Our server was very good and offered good suggestions. Both of our dinners were very good and the house labelled wine was actually quite good. The restaurant apparently has only been open for several weeks since Harvey hit the area quite hard and they were doing a really great job the night we were there. I would go back again.

Great neighborhood Restaurant

By Wilson |

I love this place, whether it's for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner. I have never had a bad meal and eaten here many of times. The only bad experience I had was when I asked for the checked I give a groupon coupon and when I was leaving I heard to server make a comment, (not a good one) This will not stop me from going back here.

Great place if in the area

By Scatlanta2 |

I like a non chain, high quality restaurant. This bistro is not far from the Westchase area and Katy freeway. Come here for a great dining experience, good wine, great service and something out of the ordinary business travel options.

Girl's night out

By Susan1114 |

Beautiful setting on Memorial Dr., ample parking, great ambiance and most of all the service was excellent. The food was 'to die for' I had a filet (cooked perfectly) and my friend had a steak with lump crab meat and lobster on top...going again soon!

Exceptional Value

By TheDudah |

We had Brunch after Church at their Memorial location Today . It is our custom to split entrees and today we split their Brunch special of "Pancake Tacos " We each had a large Pancake stuffed with eggs, bacon, and Canadian bacon, plus whipped cream with an exceptional cream brûlée sauce on fruit. We were each full, and the quality of the food was Excellent! All this plus coffee and a 20% tip, and we got all this for under $25.00. All our meals at The Union Kitchen in Houston have been of the highest quality. Do not miss this Restaurant!

Good food and great variety

By sigmagirl |

there were 5 of us meeting for girl's lunch out. all ordered different things. all of us were very pleased with our selection. Delicious and well presented. the waiter was very helpful and attentive. One person ordered a pizza and it had different toppings than she thought she had ordered. the chef sent out one for her to take home.....with the toppings requested. WOW. I attended a bridal shower in the private dining area. excellent food, especially the fresh fruit at the end. I will be going back to meet the 4 other gals next month.

Pick right and enjoy the excellence

By Toisillon |

Their slogan is "Global Cuisine with Southern Hospitality" and indeed, you should get excellent service with a rich and varied menu. Whatever you choose, you should get a dish anywhere between 'good' and 'excellent' for a very reasonable price. Not only have I never been disappointed by their cuisine, but I very often was surprised by simple and delectable associations of flavours. Pick their must: their Peggy's diver scallops (on risotto) are scrumptious, their Kobe mushroom burger is a delight. The lemon goat cheese is a wonderfully fresh appetizer (the crackers are tasteless though: ask for fresh bread to fully enjoy the cheese!).

Good Food, Nice Atmosphere

By Casey F |

The food was good. Nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was nice, we sat outside. The tables seem really high and the seats low, so it was a little awkward. I ordered wine and when they brought it out, my glass seemed to be wet and have something dripping on the inside. He had already started pouring when I noticed it, so I didn't say anything. But that kinda turned me off. It was probably just water but still made me wonder. Oh well.

Nice anniversary dinner

By Terry C |

This is a nice quaint little restaurant in the Town & Country / Memorial /Beltway 8 area near the CityCentre. The dress was casual, the food was very good with a nice assortment of options, the service was exceptional and the prices were reasonable. The cocktails were small but very tasty. A very nice anniversary evening.

Lunch.

By Patricia H |

We luve in the neighborhood and our appointment was on Saturday at 11:15. For some reasons we came 25 minutes late. When we arrived half of the restaurant was empty. I mentioned that we had a reservation. The short girl behind the counter said "... well I marked your reservation as no show already!" Ok..we are leaving although all your chairs were empty. The black girl took us inside anyway and apologized. Some manners.

Just Right

By Mobile02129706811 |

Not too expensive, not cheep. Not overly formal, kind of casual. And the food was fantastic. I had the blackened red fish and my daughter had the salmon. Even the drinks were great. On top of the great service, this place is "Just Right"

Very good for dinner

By Robert N |

We have been there several times. The last time was a little disappointing because we did not like tha table where we were seated and the place was full. Other than that, the food is very good and the sevice is also.

Blackened Rainbow Trout

By David C |

I met a couple of friends here for lunch on a Thursday. Very friendly, attentive staff - many warm welcomes. Very interesting menu - appetizers through desserts. Very good cappuccino to close the meal. My blackened rainbow trout was excellent. My friend had a blackened salmon salad - it was gone, quickly. There are 5 other locations in Houston, but this does not feel nor taste like a “chain”.

Consistently excellent food!

By mbahr |

We've been going to Union Kitchen for about a year and 1/2 and have always been so pleased. The food is creative and beautifully presented. The Crab Napoleon is our favorite appetizer and I usually get the Pete's Filet Mignon or the Baseball cut sirloin. The desserts are amazing!

Great Brunch

By TobiasAugustus |

We came here for a Sunday Brunch after Church and enjoyed ourselves. The wait staff is very attentive and the breakfast muffins are a nice touch. My only complaint is that the men's restroom does not have a changing table. Luckily my wife was with me and she was able to change our son in there. Had she not been there with us, I would have had to squat on the floor. #squatforchange

October 17

By 83Mike83 |

Myself and wife visited on a busy Friday, Service was terrible, there was a baseball game on where the servers seemed to give this more intrest than the patrons The food was very poor - could not eat one of the courses The second round of drink only arrived AFTER we had finished the meal and had the bill I will never visit again

Great Restaurant, but not the Korean Ribs

By Hippotx |

Had dinner with friends this week and The Union Kitchen was our choice. You can make reservations, enjoy great service, and eat top-quality food. The special that night was a seafood linguine dish for $30---a bit pricey, but properly priced for the quality of scallops & shrimp in this dish! Hubs enjoyed the Frito pie mac & cheese (don't judge) and loved it. I had the small plate of Korean ribs with kimchi. That's where the food wagon took a sharp turn. The toughest pieces of meat I've ever had--nothing tender about them. Once in your mouth, they were still hard to chew. Great flavor if you just sucked on them. They should definitely discuss this with the cook since this is so out-of-the-ordinary for this place. BTW, the kimchi was just so-so.

Good good and service

By Trvl8176 |

This restaurant is more of a local haunt than many restaurants in the area. The food is very good as is the service. The menu has a nice eclectic selection.

Sunday Brunch is an OK experience

By MCO |

We went for Sunday Brunch, luckily we also had reservations. The place was busy. We were promptly seated. Service was slow. I had the chicken and biscuits. The chicken was good and moist. Very little gravy was provided. Biscuits were a bit dry and unfortunately not much gravy to help. Ample parking in strip center lot. I enjoyed the meal but wouldnt make any great effort to go back.

My husband daughter and I came here for brunch. The atmosphere was nice. They had tables inside and a nice patio outside but we decided to sit inside. After placing our order they brought out some muffins and butter to start. The food took a bit to come but when it came it was delicious! I ordered the French toast with banana foster, my husband got the omelette with lobster and my daughter got the pizza of the kids menu. We got the food from the brunch menu rather than their regular menu. Great food great place will definitely come back!!!

Great food and service (by Ryan)

By TRHinHouston |

This is one of the best neighborhood restaurants in the Memorial area. The food is superb: both the veal chop and the sea bass were perfectly cooked and both were accompanied by fabulous "sides" ... a wild mushroom risotto in the case of the veal and a lima bean medley for the sea bass. Our calamari starter had some creativity behind it as well. Most importantly, our waiter - Ryan - was incredibly helpful and attentive. When I asked for a particular way for my veal to be cooked, not only did he take note of my request at the table, but he came back and told me what he had specifically written to the chef. Then, to top if off, he brought the chef out of the kitchen to introduce him to me. Extraordinary service. Ask for Ryan the next time you go in! You won't be disappointed.

Meatloaf for Foodies!

By 2HoustonTexans |

Be sure to make this a place for meatloaf, thick cut pork chops, roasted brussel sprouts, burgers and more. The atmosphere is upscale casual. The Manager Mike and his staff are passionate about delivering exceptional service. Recommend reservations. Also they have a nice private room for larger groups.

Neighbourhood favorite

We have visited the Union Kitchen on several occasions now. Each time we have not been disappointed. The menu is varied and well prepared. The staff are more than helpful and friendly.

Affordable fine dining

By kevinsmithd56 |

My wife and I took my mother and brother here for their birthdays. Everyone had a great experience! The Crab Napoleon small plate was a huge hit with everyone-delicious blue crab and a sauce that didn't over power the crab. The Pistachio Crusted Chicken was done just right - not over done but no pink in the middle - and the taste was well-balanced. The market special fish, red snapper on risotto, was incredibly moist and delicious. An very good meal without paying big prices!

Excellent meal

My wife and I were on our way home looking for a place to have an early dinner and found the Union Kitchen at Memorial. We shared several starters, Voodo Balls, Frito Pie Mac & Cheese, stuffed mushrooms as well as a Wedge salad. The food was very tasty, the service was excellent. We will definietly return.

Disappearing salads

By Urbanites |

Normally we like the Union Kitchen, but our experience the other night with their salads was disappointing. The Union Chopped salad which you would assume from the price to be a larger salad than the house or Caesar is not.. In fact it may have been smaller. Just not a good buy. In the future we'll stick to splitting an appetizer which is a much better value for the money.

Mother's Day brunch disaster!

By Kim K |

A Mother's Day fiasco. We had a 12:45 reservation; we were seated at 1:30. The reservation check in line was out the door for hours! The kitchen was so backed up that it was ridiculous. Not really sure who was at fault, but they knew it was Mother's Day and they couldn't handle it at all. Seated at 1:30 and our food didn't come until 3:05. Yes, that is correct. Poor waiter - it was just his 3rd day on the job. He was apologetic, but he couldn't do anything to make it better. Never had a manager come by to try to make it better, or at least acknowledge the situation. And to top it off, we opted for patio seating since it wasn't too hot when we were seated. However, none of us expected to sit outside with no air movement and 85+ degree heat for 2 hours. MAJOR mistakes made. Once our food did come, it was mediocre at best. All three of us ordered a form of Eggs Benedict. Only 1 order came with correctly poached eggs. The eggs on the other 2 plates were way overcooked. The point of poached eggs is to have runny yolks. Those yolks were solid as the whites. We also ordered the cinnamon rolls. They came 15 minutes after our other food (3:20 now), and were a complete disaster. They were dry and had rock hard edges, as if they were the very last ones from the very last pan of the day. But, who is going to say anything when you've already waited over 1.5 hours for your food?! If they had even tried to make it better or say they were sorry (mgrs and hostesses didn't seem to care, they just looked sweaty and crazed and avoided eye contact at all costs), we might try them again. But they really messed up Mother's Day for many, many people who made reservations in good faith and got the shaft. We won't be back.

Nice atmopshere, food disappointing

By Bart M |

The atmosphere in this restaurant is really nice. Too bad they cannot manage their food. I ordere a medium rare stake and ended up with one that was almost well done. My colleagues had ordered medium and with theirs the blood was dripping everywhere. Fries overfried. Too bad. The brownies in the desert were bland in taste masked by a huge quantity of ice. They let you taste wine that is offered by the glass. This might come across posh for those that think winetasting is part of the routine but it is really worrying if they do not taste the wine themselves after opening the bottle. Hard to believe this restaurant scores so high.

Excellent food and service.

By Steve S |

Have visited for lunch several times. Always friendly, helpful service. Also a large covered patio area.

Nothing special. Disappointing.

By Joe G |

We got run in and out pretty quickly. We wanted a nice dinner at a slow pace on a kid-free evening. Instead we got run in and out in 45 minutes. Our server was as nice as he needed to be. The ribeye was tough and had too much fat on it. A word of caution: They use the patio to seat families with young children. Unless you really enjoy screaming kids, it’s best to sit inside. The greeter gave us the option, we chose outside because it was a nice evening, but by the time we realized how truly loud and miserable it was going to be there were no tables left inside.

Nice variety to choose from

By Dale F |

Inside or outside seating. Outside seating is enclosed in a tent style setting. Many eating choices to choose from the menu. Steak, seafood, chicken, pizza. Nice wine selection. I thought the prices a bit high, but it is Houston.

The Salty Dog

By PastaMom2011 |

I have eaten here before and really enjoyed my meal. I highly recommended it to friends and neighbors. This time... not so much. The prevailing flavor of my appetizer and entree was SALT in a big, big, way. The food was very nicely presented but it was completely over-salted. My bread pudding dessert was cinnamon flavored bread. The bourbon sauce was absent so the little drizzle of chocolate over the top was pretty, but offered no elevation to the dish. On a positive note, the service was attentive; the atmosphere pleasant and the wine list had enough to offer; the pricing was appropriate for items offered. I will try it again. Maybe the day of the week makes a difference in the chef.

Very Erratic

By Jerald S |

Compliments to Happy Hour bartenders/waitresses Elizabeth and Courtney for excellent service and professional personalities! Serious concerns about management @ Kingwood location regarding fishy crab smell, unavailability of figs for Brie dish, Shocktop beer for Happy Hour special, and undercooked Brie dish -- shame on you for not paying attention to details Also, if loyalty card points are earned on alcohol sales, they should be redeemable against the total bill-alcohol included. We are frequent dinners and need to be heard!!!

Hidden treasure

We have eaten here for all threemeals. Highly REommend thhe Union Burger. Fo r dinner, the specials are wonderful. So creative

Disappointing

By davidmatthes |

We tried Union Kitchen on Memorial a second time in two months against my better instincts. The restaurant is very nice inside The food was mediocre on both visits and the service was, on the first occasion abrupt and barely friendly and, on the 2nd occasion overly and insincerely friendly and very slow.

Excellent Brunch Experience

By Caressa |

Memorial location. The food, atmosphere and service was fabulous. I found this location to be cleaner and more pleasant than the Galleria location. The mimosas and omelets were delicious. i will definitley go back, I wish I lived closer!

Lunch with my Mom

By PhiladelphiaPhillip |

Saw that there was a new restaurant opened near where my Mom lives in Houston on Ella Blvd, so decided to check it out. What an incredible find in an area that has kind of been a restaurant wasteland until recently. Seated in a comfortable leather booth, we were pleased with the attentive and somewhat eager service. I tried the gumbo, and then the meat loaf sandwich and loved both of them. Gumbo not exactly authentic from a creole perspective but delish nonetheless. Meatloaf sandwich open faced over Texas toast with gravy and mashed potatoes and lagniappe of crispy French fries! Also delicious. Mom had the onion and apple soup which she loved, as well as the crab cakes, which in spite of being an appetizer portion included two generous cakes. Topped it off by sharing a chocolate mousse cake with Oreo cookie crust which was perfection. Great space and a great place. Will be back.

Delicious

By Sametra B |

I honestly enjoyed the food and service. From the outside, it doesn't look like it would be as awesome inside as it is. I highly recommend it for a nice & casual, yet upscale spot.

OK, but disappointing for the price

By nighthawk2828 |

We visited based on a friend's recommendation. Ordered two dishes off the special fixed price menu - pork chop and the blackened fish (don't remember the species!). The fish normally came with a seafood gumbo, which I ordered on the side due to a shellfish intolerance. The fish was quite bland - not what I expected from a blackened dish at all. I guess they expected the gumbo to add the flavor to the dish, but the waiter (or chef) should have known this. The pork chop was extra thick and perfectly cooked inside, but was a bit scorched and bitter on the outside. Tasted fine once the burned parts were cut off, but shouldn't have to do this. My grilled brussel sprouts were excellent - probably the highlight of the meal. Dessert was mediocre, which was a fitting end to the meal. Definitely expected better.

Good service and big portions

By ARose |

I guess the best way to classify this restaurant is urban bistro. They have quite a variety of pizzas, sandwiches, and steaks, but I couldn't pinpoint what they might be known for. Crab cakes were delicious and the bread pudding was amazing for dessert. The pricing is fair considering the larger portion sizes. Most people left with a to-go box (including me). Our server was very friendly and kept us updated with the food even though it really wasnt taking a long time. The woman at the next table was fairly rude and the server was still very courteous. They do have patio seating which is better for larger groups and I did see a few people with dogs on the patio.

Over rated

By Tootallal |

The good - service good. Atmosphere great The bad - Over priced for what you get The Scoop - I had Eggs Benedict. The yokes were not runny, it was over sauced. The pecan smoked bacon side was chewy and a paltry 2 1/2 pieces on the plate - that arrived late. This is a stylish place. It was a Sunday brunch and families were indeed there. You can eat inside or out and on a nice day it would be fantastic outside. I just didn't see the attention to detail for the cost. EB were $11. Perhaps some of the other dishes were great. One plate of biscuits and gravy was certainly stacked high and looked appetizing. I would try this place again and choose something different.

5 Stars for a Wonderful Anniversary Dinner with Three Generations

By Helene S |

Great place to celebrate 55 years of wedding bliss. Thanks to Harris, like the county, and Violet, like the flower, for making my parents' special anniversary dinner extra memorable. Too many choices and ... they will make modifications as well. Winning appetizers-- Charred brussel sprouts, Texas blue lump crab cakes, and truffle mac and cheese. Love the crunchy char on the brussel sprouts and the mac and cheese is decadently creamy. Pizza, Pizza-- Get the chicken and goat cheese with baby spinach and sundried tomatoes. Winning entrees-- Love the Napa Portobello Chicken, but the pistachio crusted chicken with artichoke hearts and mushrooms is a close second. Hubby loves the burger served with onion rings and truffle fries, because why choose when you can have frings? For seafood lovers, you can't go wrong with the redfish special or the crustacean special with the kitchen sink of shellfish- shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams. If you have room, so many great choices for dessert. Harris and Violet slaved in the kitchen all day and brought my parents their two favorites, Key Lime pie and carrot cake, snuggled on a beautiful plate together. Thanks for an exceptional meal and amazing service!

Great neighborhood spot

By Susan B |

The food is consistently well prepared with lots of choices. Their chicken fried steak is a must try, but it is only available on their lunch menu. Great wine list too!

Fresh Food, attentive service, outside dinning

By Debbie E |

Healthy food with good size sandwiches and wraps. Nice variety of options on menu. Attentive waitstaff Outdoor dinning on a warm February afternoon was relaxing and comfy. Beautiful clean restrooms. My sister and I were visiting Houston and wanted to see our old Houston neighborhood - Memorial. We stopped in without knowing anything about this restaurant, and were pleasantly surprised.

Nice and Tasty food

By Richard Y |

I had lunch with two friends recently and found my Fish and Chips (Fries) were tasty with the 3 Hush Puppies, nicely garnished with some cold slaw. My other 2 guests had salads and both found them great. They were healthier than me! I think we got value for money. The environment and atmosphere of the restaurant were pleasant and relaxing as well as the service (Derek K). I forgot my credit card and only discovered this the next day and was relieved when I was told that it was there waiting for collection! Will certainly go back when I visit Houston next!

Happy hour

By Theresa B |

The union kitchen located in Kingwood, Texas is as a deceiving name and storefront. It has chef prepared food of high quality. While on the pricey side, going during happy hour is always a treat with half price small plates and 5 dollar lemon drop martinis, it's a treat and very reasonable. Our waiter, Victor, was prompt and predicted needs well. Thus, a nice evening. These specials are available in the bar area only, but tables are available and any item on the menu can be ordered. If interested in dinner, look for a Groupon many times there is one available making this an affordable nice evening out. B

Great food, great atmosphere.

By Jami H |

Went for the first time at lunch (and with a Groupon no less). The food is excellent and the restaurants décor is classy, yet not snooty. Plan to visit again for a date night. It is upscale, so a little pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion.

Great neighborhood place

By Andrea R |

When Union Kitchen first opened a few years back I was not sure what I thought. I had ordered a dish with shrimp and the shrimp were tiny like those icky little frozen or canned shrimp your grandmother might serve. To this day, they still serve those same icky shrimp so I simply avoid their shrimp dishes and go with my favorites. If you go you absolutely have to try the beet salad. It is my favorite thing there! It has a sweet balsamic reduction poured on the beets...red beets and golden beets, shredded fresh basil, and goat cheese, sometimes tomatoes too. They have several great pastas dishes. Beyond that I have not experimented much because once I find a few favorites I stick with them. Also on Friday or Saturday- not sure which- they will have musicians play out on the patio. That is a big hit on nice nights when it isn't too humid. If you live in the neighborhood leave the car behind and walk... or take your bike!
