What a great place. Love to see a place like this in Oak Cliff. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Great book selection. Will stop by every time we’re in town visiting family.

This place never disappoints. Met some friends for an early cocktail before a concert. Casual and laid back setting is perfect. An old fav in Bishop Arts.

Absolutely Yes. Clean. Comfy. with many types of tables or areas for you to work or hang out with friends. 30 second walk to the Arts District. Could use a few more food items but that's not why i came so that was ok.

The morning guy is at best surly, at worst hostile as he serves crappy coffee with week-old pastries. Cool ambiance wasted, as it most times is, by apathetic, unmanaged staff.

What a fun, quirky homey coffeehouse located in between private homes? Non matching tables and chairs, hodgepodge/shabby chic decor, the walls of this coffee shop are filled with books representing an array of authors and topics. Outback there was a spoken word/ reading taking place which was well attended and had the audience enthralled. Coffee, cakes and cookies available for purchase and just added to the character of this book store /coffee house. In the Bishop Arts District of Dallas, this coffee shop captured my attention and I'm sure it will capture yours too!!

This was the highlight of our trip down to the bishops arts district! A very unique atmosphere being a bookstore/bar/coffee shope! We went during the day and tried a few local brews at the bar. Many nooks to sit and read or chat. Very cool outside patio, that they have live music on the weekends. They even serve emprium pies!! Mmmmmmm.

I like when houses are converted into neighborhood businesses / coffee shops, and I like coffee shops that are non-traditional. On the outside, this says, "quaint neighborhood hangout." Inside, it says, "Northwoods cabin." It is a very cool setting. The coffee was good. The service was somewhat confusing - no one really inviting me to place an order, and no line for service. The place can be packed on Saturday mornings with kids and parents for story time. If you go to Wild Detectives, plan to stay in Bishop Arts for some time and explore the great neighborhood.

That isn't just a title...this really is the PERFECT coffee shop. It's located in the new bishop arts district, so it's a trendy/hip little house that's been renovated on the inside. This place has it all. If you want a coffee shop, this is your place. If you want a cafe, this is your place. If you want a bookshop, this is your place...and the best part...if you want some adult beverages after a long day of work, this is your place. You can drink coffee while reading a book and eating a sandwich, and then have a glass of wine. Perfection.

Beer, books, coffee, outdoor seating, and good music. With all those great things I am not sure what else anyone would expect from a place like this. It is a great place to hang out with a couple of friends or to chill alone with a good book.

Great place to chill have a great coffee or a cocktail. Or even charge your laptop. 😜 bishop arts neighborhood fave that’s a staple in the community

We simply loved this place. It is very lively, hip and offers great drinks along with an excellent variety of books. We enjoyed a cappuccino as well as a regular cup of coffee... both were good and worth the money. We will certainly be back.

Given all the rave reviews, we were anxious to take our nieces to a "real" bookstore. After fighting to find a parking space, we walked several blocks. The bookstore was cool but extremely small and extremely limited in its offerings. There are no appropriate books for children. We did but a drink from the cafe and were pleasantly surprised there but again frustrated by a lack of room as there was no where to sit.

Stopped in to check out the books only to realize there are drinks and pastries as well. Think of a local, trendy Starbucks and you are on the right track. Set in a restored neighborhood, this gives the feel of being off the normal path. Good job!

Excellent. Great coffee. Nice place. Can not be missed if you're in Dallas. Kind of a hipster spot. Right on the Bishop arts district.

The Wild Detective is a quaint spot tucked away in the Bishop Arts district. I went there on a date on a Friday evening and had a great time. This is a place that you can grab a delicious drink and talk the night away. It's the perfect environment for a chill night with friends or a first date. I'd recommend this place to anyone that wants to get out enjoy some ambiance but not be overwhelmed by a crowd.

Fantastic spot for a drink and a few minutes to sit and talk with a friend. There beer and wine selection along with creative mixed drinks were both refreshing and many. I enjoyed a glass of Prosecco well my friend enjoyed a glass of red wine. The setting is relaxing and a nice break from the hustle and bustle. Definitely worth checking out.

This place is just a little off the beaten path of the Bishop Arts District but still very close to it, and a bit beyond the Boulevardier restaurant nearby and it is excellent! I absolutely love the ambience and chill vibe of this place. It's beautifully designed and decorate; and the baristas/bartenders are laid back and friendly. Their ice latte is good (they use beans from a place nearby). I've come here with my dog to sit on the patio and drink coffee as well as come late at night for a glass of wine with friends. Most recently, they had a DJ spinning some spanish tunes on a Saturday night which was fun!

Awesome, unique spot that I’d recommend to any book or beer lover visiting Dallas. I snagged a book and a beer and enjoyed both our on their front porch. Located in a great area of town. Will definitely be back.

My friend turned 21 and we came here to celebrate. She said the white wine was good - sweet but not overbearing. I got the house special latte. Super interesting and unique flavor - barista was super helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is absolutely amazing! Hipster bookstore vibes with vintage lights and cute tables. Ten out of ten recommend!

I work in Bishop Arts area and I have frequented some of the spots in the area and while I do love the Wild Detectives, the services is poor. They have a very up beat, calming bookstore/coffee/bar atmosphere but the employees just don't seem to like "people" in general. I would still recommend this place for the experience but don't be surprised if you get treated poorly. Good coffee.

Charming indie book store where we found some nice unexpected selections. Coffee and alcohol are served by friendly staff. Our chai latte and brown cinnamon sugar latte were both delicious. When the weather is nice there is a spacious back patio perfect for events or groups. We were happy to find a unique cookbook and a couple books on poetry. The store is a little off the main path but an easy walk and well worth your time for a drink and a nice browse through books you won't often find elsewhere.

Great bookstore, nice book choices, perfect reading nooks inside and out. Didn't have time to sample the coffee but it smelled great. Will definitely return. Love this neighborhood. Adult books and childrens section. REALLY worth a trip.

This was a super cozy bookstore with a full bar and coffee options. Hardcore hipster aesthetic with modern and eclectic decor. They had a front deck, back patio, and comfortable seating inside.

Best coffee in Bishop Arts. Outdoor patio is great place to hang out with our dog and enjoy a cortado.

I drove past it... TWICE. But... This is why I loved it. Simple, quaint, and delicious. The cappuccino was delightful and the chocolate croissant was...well, can anyone really complain about a chocolate croissant??

The selection of books is small but well curated. The avocado toast was scrumptious and fit well with the happy hour wine. There is ample outdoor seating. A real gem.

The books are carefully recommended, and very well presented. The cocktail menu is very interesting, lots of tasty concoctions. I had one called a psychokiller.

Step 1: Go through their carefully curated selection of books. You may not find what you are looking for but you will definitely find something that you were not looking for. That's the brilliance of an independent bookstore- the folks owning and running the show know a thing or two about what it takes to appeal to the wild-at-heart book lover. Step 2: Now chew on the handful of books that you have picked up; go ahead and make up your mind over a cup of tea and a muffin. While you are at it, give your fellow bibliophiles a bright smile when you catch their eye. There they are- sat right across you, in front of you and beside you, enjoying their own cups of coffee, glasses of wine and cosy chats. This is where we are all at home, this intimate setting letting loose all our free spirited conversations, bookish indulgences and introspection. Step 3: Good! You have made up your mind- go ahead and make that handful of books your own. I feel passionately about independent businesses, so it is no surprise that I lost track of time in wonderful, wonderful "The Wild Detectives". Good work, guys!

We were in the Bishop Arts District for dinner, and someone in our group noticed a coffee shop when the drove. We walked a couple blocks over to The Wild Detectives. This place has a cool vibe to it with plenty of outdoor seating options in the back, and a variety of options inside. Calling this place a coffee shop is an under statement...it's a bookstore, bar, and coffee shop in one. I noticed when we arrived that D Magazine recently named it the best bookstore in the area. That is a bit surprising since the book selection is very limited, but it is a fun place and location. I had a black coffee. It was good coffee, but surely not the best in Dallas...but good nonetheless.

Every book, record, and literary quarterly has been carefully curated to create this incredibly peaceful, welcoming space. With Wilco playing on the speakers and a full bar (coffee and cocktail) the establishment was an absolute delight. Also, do yourself a favor and get the mocha. Made with locally made chocolate, it will blow your mind.

Really dig the vibe of this place. I love their book selection because it is well thought through and fascinating. They also have a cool vinyl collection. Drinks are great and service was very kind and hospitable!

The location is a little odd and not easy to get to, but the food, drink, and atmosphere were great. My only complaint was that it was crazy crowded inside and there was nowhere to sit. They had seating outside, but it was way too cold at the time.

I want to move into this place. They have an amazing selection of curated books, coffee, beer....what else could you need??

The Wild Detectives is a coffee shop, book store and wine bar concept in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas. It's like a coffee shop, only much improved by serving wine and beer. The happy hour is fairly good, including nearly half the wine list for several hours. The beers are thoughtfully selected from local breweries and are changed regularly. The staff are friendly enough, and seem to have several regulars. It's a great place to get some work done or catch up with friends. They have a very nice back patio, with plenty of tables and string lights. Overall, a lovely hidden gem in a pleasant area of town.

I rate Wild Detectives very good because it is so different. I don't know if any one thing about it is exceptional, except how they pulled it all together for a nice coffee/wine/dessert experience in a small unique bookstore. It is definitely worth a stop in your Bishop Arts experience.

We came to WD on a rainy Sunday morning to kill some time and have a good cup of coffee. They feature coffees roasted by Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters, and in particular we had their Julio Palli | Bolivia, which was exquisite. This place doubles as a full bar featuring craft beer, cocktails, and wine. The aesthetic is fantastic, as it is also a bookstore! They sell pie by the slice from Emporium Pies (a neighborhood pie shop) and they are to die for. If you’re in Bishop Arts this place warrants a stop for sure.

One of my favorite places in Dallas. This place is a gem. It looks like a house, but it's really a little coffee shop/bar. However, it's not a typical bar or bookstore. This is a place you can come by, do your homework, read, and just hang out with friends. Their cocktails and drinks are unique. The ambiance is welcoming and cozy. I would definitely recommend this place.

My friends and I popped in because I can't say no to a bookstore/bar. It has a really nice atmosphere. I enjoyed perusing the books while sipping a drink. There is an additional seating area in the back where we read our new books and enjoyed cocktails. I would definitely come back.

My visit was short and I just perused the books. There were 25 people there on Friday night drink coffee or beer and chatting. Not your typical book store or coffee shop. There was a DJ planning music which isn't typical of a book store. The book selection is small. Maybe 300 titles, but they seem to have a very well curated list.

It's the best place to come to find a new book to read. If they don't have it, they'll order it. Grab a latte or a glass of wine and settle in to watch the flow of interesting people. Great vibe. Small. Don't expect to bring a group and have a lot of space if it's raining. But if it's sunny, there's no place better!

Oak Cliff Coffee in nice house in Bishop Arts. A little off the main streets but worth looking for it. Great coffee. Nice atmosphere.

We came here with a friend from Dallas. It is an up & coming neighborhood, Bishop Art District. The coffee shop is a converted house, literally next door, in a neighborhood to people’s actual houses. The feel is comfortable & homey. The “backyard” is lit & cute, and apparently they have all kinds of things going on here in the summer time. The area has lots of places & things to do. Or if you just want to hang out & read, this is also your place!

We love the Wild Detectives! It is so unique, in a old home in Bishop Arts with an incredibly inviting staff, book selection, great food and variety of drinks. A great place to read, study, visit, buy an eclectic book, a terrific hideout!

Although the space is small, there's a huge variety of books to satisfy any avid reader. Pick up a coffee to go along with your new read, or stay a while and try one of their signature cocktails. Such a cool, unique location!

A charming place in the Bishop Arts neighborhood of Dallas that reminds me of Asheville, North Carolina. Great for an afternoon beer outback on the picnic tables with friends, or place to escape solo and read inside.
Bookstore to visit
I love visiting bookstores in different cities and The wild detectives was a very warm one to see. Thought it does not have a huge collection of books, it’s nice to go through the books and sip your coffee. I liked the atmosphere.
