4 1/2 stars - WONDERFUL hometown feel!

By JJCA25 |

We went to dinner here last night before the California Golden Pops Christmas concert at the Warner Grand Theatre. Such a charming place! Service and food were both quite good. We spoke with Carly who manages the restaurant and she said her husband is the chef. Surprised she is not overweight with the tasty food we ate. Just disappointed that we didn't have room for dessert - next time. AND there will definitely be many "next times"!

Nice find, good food and a charger for my electric car

By SoCalAstronomer |

I was in Long Beach to photograph the return of a SpaceX booster to the port and needed to kill an hour or two. I stumbled across the Think Cafe, and at its location, an electric vehicle charger (connected to a network for which I have a card). So, I plugged-in the car, then ordered the sandwich of the day (an interesting combo of grilled chicken, two kinds of cheese and toasted whole wheat) and a cafe specialty, pea salad. It was all very good, and so was the unsweetened peach-flavored ice tea. The service was excellent, even though I hung around long after I finished my mid-afternoon lunch. I'm going to come back.

Relaxed, refreshing and really good food,

By Y1576MKrichardc |

Enjoyed a relaxed luncheon at the Think Cafe (that exudes a calm atmosphere where the service was friendly, prompt and courteous. The food (grilled sand dabs) was prepared to perfection. The setting invites an intimate lunch or a group luncheon of retired coworkers. The price is reasonable for the quality of the food. I enjoyed fresh grilled fish over sautéed vegetables with a lemon butter cover for $18.00. Bon Apetit.

Noisy, but High Energy

By UCLABruin84-87 |

We ate there on a Sunday afternoon. The place was very full, with a few very large parties. The sound of happy conversations hit you as you walked in the door. The wait staff got us seated right away, they were very friendly and the food was served quickly. Between the three of us, we tried the whitefish tacos (recommended strongly over the salmon tacos by the waitress), the macadamia nut and goat cheese salad and salmon sandwich. All of it was quite tasty and plentiful. A very nice place to visit. It seemed like a local's kind of place, but well worth a trip. Would go back again if in the neighborhood.

wonderful casual not too pricey!

By cnfour |

this restaurant was recommended by a relative who lives nearby and we were very pleased. We were a party of seven family members from all over the US who had alot of catching up to do and the gave a us a very nice private space. Service was great. The food was terrific. Ihad the grilled sand dabs and every bite was wonderful.

Great California Cuisine

Think has a nice variety of food for many palletes, so don't be afraid of brining your friends and family members. I like the crab cakes, but there is a lot to peak your interest.

Good Place to go before theater

By 74dennisk |

Think was a lovely place to meet friends for dinner before going to the Warner Theater. A nice relaxed atmosphere.

Now don’t get me wrong…

By davidjbrown10 |

… there’s nothing bad about Think Café, or rather nothing bad to be said about either of the two lunches we have so far had there when we’ve been in San Pedro’s mysteriously underpopulated downtown and looking for a bite. It’s just that, accustomed as we are to the extraordinarily high standards at Think’s other property, Sonny’s Bistro, at the top of the hill on 25th Street heading north (see separate review), Think has just been a wee bit disappointing on both occasions. For example, my wife’s Prime Rib Dib (ie “fresh shaved Prime Rib served hot on a french roll with au jus on the side”) was more like good and lean, but generic, sliced roast beef, and the fries were just a little bit tired compared with the truly excellent hot, crisp and fresh ones served at Sonny’s. Against that, however, my Pasta Barese (“sautéed eggplant, tomatoes, basil, mushrooms and garlic in a white wine reduction over angel hair pasta”) was absolutely fine, as flavorful as it sounds, and really as good as any of Sonny’s pasta dishes that we’ve tried. So… if you’re in the vicinity of Think, and hungry, don’t hesitate, but if you don’t mind a couple more miles’ driving, you might think about heading for Sonny’s instead…

Surprised by the delicate but wonderful flavors

By Sailing_Sweetie |

I ordered the seared ahi dinner and the cream of carrot soup. My taste buds were wowed. I did not expect much and was delightfully surprised. It is Tuesday at 730pm and not crowded. Service was excellent...I had wine and water seconds after I sat down. The wine selection is large and well priced for a good value. My glass of tempranillo was $6. I will come back. The ahi was high grade and seared to perfection. All around good experience.

Simple Fresh and Good Food

By Tsion A |

I’ve been coming to Think Café for years and I really like their food. Very good service and great atmosphere. They have seating in the patio area and it’s very lovely during summers. It’s a great breakfast spot and for lunch, I mostly get their sandwiches. They do to-go also. They serve wine.

THINK Cafe is good

By Jan W |

It's in downtown San Pedro near the Harbor, and the food is really good--with a touch of elegance. The pea salad is especially good -- I always take some home. Wait staff are very friendly but not obsequious. Good parking.

Fun with Sis and cousin

It's been over 10 years since I've eaten at a Think Cafe....and even better then I remembered...excellent service. .presentation of food...and don't the food exceeded our expectations.

Pre Cruise Breakfast 2017

We had a wonderful breakfast at this restaurant prior to embarkation on the Ruby Princess. The service, food selection and price was very good.

Great Place for Groups

By Catherine T |

I held a ladies luncheon here. The staff are wonderful and the meal delicious. The have a separate room which made it very nice for our group. I have also met a girlfriend here for lunch with just the two of us...still wonderful!

Maybe it was a bad day?

By Gabriel W |

I wanted to love Think Cafe, but after receiving our entrees at brunch on Sunday, we were really disappointed. I ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich which had several small, rectangular pieces of seared tuna, not one piece, as has been with every tuna sandwich I have ever been served. The BLT was equally disappointing with almost no bacon and the tiniest amount of mayo possible. After receiving the check, I noticed I was charged $11 for one, not quite a pint, of beer. The one high point was the ahi tuna tower, it was a nicely presented plate with plenty of food for the price.

Excellent lunches

By John R |

The salads are exceptional with a nice pour of wine. I suggest the crab/avocado and also the Pea Salad as a side. Great Club sandwich too.

More than a pre-cruise restaurant

By LetsGo2Paris |

We needed a place to eat prior to our cruise the next day, and did the usual research on Trip Advisor for restaurants in San Pedro, not far from our hotel (the DoubleTree). On our ride from the hotel to the restaurant (free hotel shuttle), the shuttle driver confirmed that Think Cafe was a great place where a lot of locals go. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there. We ate indoors (it was chilly, but a few were braving it outside on the heated, covered patio). The restaurant looked inviting from outside (see photo) and was warm and friendly inside. The staff greeted us immediately, and although it was nearly full, we got a table right away. The ambiance was cozy and relaxing. The service was prompt and helpful, and the food was really, really good! We were sorry we couldn't take leftovers with us. I would highly recommend.

A Gem!

By LRH7 |

The couple who own this place work it too. Friendly, efficient staff and excellent food. Set on the first floor of a massive glass office building in downtown San Pedro, this bistro caters to the local government officials from the courthouse to businesses in the area during the day and the fine dining lovers at night. Indoor and courtyard seating offer 2 different experiences. They need to lose the big screen, which is silent and distracting. Otherwise, a pleasant little gem with a decent wine list, local brew pub draught beer and a good menu for finicky eaters.

Think about this Café For Delicious Pre-Cruise Dining

By HBSnowFlower |

Sanddabs, calamari, French onion soup, steak -- all were delicious and beautifully prepared at this stylish café tucked at the bottom of an office building in San Pedro, close to Ports O’ Call. Service was topnotch, and prices were very reasonable for the eclectic menu of fish, steaks, salads and pastas. Cruisers embarking at Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro will appreciate this fine-casual dining option, instead of Ports o’ Call restaurants, when arriving early before their cruise departs.

What a breakfast!

By Bryonyh |

Found the Think Cafe in TripAdvisor and it was perfect for breakfast. Huge choice - you could add/take out any part of the dish. Very tasty and a cheerful and friendly lady serving us. Great find and highly recommend.

Pre-cruise Lunch

By Bob R |

After reviewing restaurants in the San Pedro area for lunch the day before our cruise departure we decided Think Cafe looked promising. Turns out that it exceeded expectations. Comfortable, casual atmosphere. Very friendly wait staff and delicious creative food. I particularly enjoyed the chicken, brie and avocado sandwich.

Good Standby

By LGB-Local |

This café is an establishment with local government officials, but I can't imagine it being a choice for evening "fine dining." Menu offers quite a bit of variety and the food is always good. I was there today and the service staff failed to offer me a refill on ice tea (or be around to ask). It was a hot day, and I would have enjoyed it. Otherwise the kitchen is proficient and the atmosphere is good for conducting business. The cost per person is in the $15 range, which is on the high side for casual sit-down dining, to me.

My Favorite Restaurant

By Alyssa L |

I live nearby the restaurant, and cannot say enough good things about Think Cafe. Their food is always good, and often excellent. I have a few go-to favorites... for lunch I love the hummus pita, or the crab cake salad. The pita has a healthy, liberal amount of yummy hummus, on warm fresh pita bread with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. You can get it with either fresh fruit, french fries or pea salad (which sounds weird, but is really this amazing and unique creation of peas, bacon, and red onions in a creamy dressing - so good!). The crab cake salad is two large crab cakes with tartar sauce over fresh romaine with corn, red onions, and tomatoes, tossed lightly in ranch. For dinner, they have heartier fare - my favorites are the linguini pasta (with creamy garlic sauce, mushrooms, onions, sundried tomatoes, chicken, and green peas) and the Shrimp Diablo (shrimp with a spicy red sauce, oven roasted tomato, and basmati rice - my husband likes to sweat so he orders it extra spicy). Both come with your choice of a soup or salad. Not only is this place great because of it's food, but the staff are also super awesome! Sunny and Carli (the owners) are often on site, and quick to stop by and say hello, and offer personal service. Sunny is the head chef, and also will happily customize any order. The wait staff is friendly as well, competent, and quick. I know that I can always count on Think for a fast, easy, delicious meal. Finally, I have personally had several large gatherings/parties in their back room. They are easy to work with, reasonable and delicious caterers!

Lunch

By JustAretha |

Drove pass this cafe many times and have never seen it. We Googled pizza and stumbled upon Think Cafe. We arrived 20 minutes before they close. Surprised the cafe close this early but was told only on Sundays. A small spot, hidden location & food was okay. My black beans were cold. 🤨 I would give this place another shot. Not anytime soon but definitely in the near future.

Best Cafe!

By NoraExplorer |

Overdue review! One of the places we went while staying in San Pedro is this great cafe. First, we came here for brunch on Sunday. I loved my brunch the first time we came here. I had a salmon sandwich with pea salad and Hubby had tuna with two types of soups. They offer a trio, so instead of the regular soup and sandwich, like most restaurants do, he could choose a third one either salad or another soup and he did the soup. So, Hubby had french onion & seafood chowder soups and tuna sandwich on a baguette. My sandwich came on a baguette too and I love baguette! Our waitressI, Kashka (spelling?) is a nice lady. She’s also a friendly waitress. Anyway, since we loved it the first time we planned a visit for the second time. The second time we went for breakfast right after openin, at 8 AM. I ordered my favorite avocado toast with sunnyside up and pea salad and Hubby had his bagel and lox. I loved my avocado toast, the avocado was fresh and nicely cut for my toast. We also ordered an extra bagel to make another bagel and lox because we thought the lox they gave us was quite a lot. We had the same waitress Kashka. Then we came back on the same day for lunch and I had a chicken brie sandwich with pea salad and Hubby had a tuna sandwich, salad, and french onion soup. Wow, we really loved this place. We thought they offer good quality food and very affordable. How did we not find this place earlier? Anyway, this is worth a visit! We enjoyed the great food and service from this establishment. Thanks!

Patio dinning on a nice day is the way to go, much quieter. Normal cafe food, omelettes, pasta, sandwiches. Service is always good. Nothing unusual about Think Cafe.

San Pedro Local's Favorite - Good Food, Casual elegance (Breakfast too!)

By Dragoniste |

I have been here solo for early breakfast and with friends for dinner. They do it all with good food and friendly service. Have breakfast at the counter and watch your favorite soccer or baseball team, have dinner on the outdoor patio. No wonder the locals call this place a hidden gem.

Fabulous

We met friends there for dinner. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and large portions as well. Definitely worth the visit. Will stop by there again if we make it back to LA some day

Breakfast and lunch.

By Choogee |

Neighborhood cafe for breakfast and lunch. Extensive menu. Good service and well prepared meals. Very quick service. Good expresso.

Good stop for an early dinner - pre-cabaret.

By christinebraganza |

San Pedro is an unassuming, community-minded harbor town. With this in mind and assuming you are not out to find a Michelin-Star dining experience, you will not be disappointed. The privately owned Think Café on 5th Street in Downtown San Pedro is a pleasant restaurant with a decent menu and wine selection. The atmosphere is pleasant and staff are attentive and friendly. We stopped by for dinner before taking in a local cabaret at Gallery 741. Food was well presented, tasty and portions were manageable. Main course was served with either salad or soup, both were beautifully presented and tasty. Good choice of desserts. The crème brulee was excellent, if heavy on the hips. Thursday evening, wine by the bottle was offered at half price. Very pleasant experience

Company Favorite

By WilliamMunny76 |

We go as a large group here once a year following company meetings. When fifteen or more people rave about the place year after year, enough said! We talk about the rack of lamb dish on day one and many of us look forward to our big dinner here. The sauces are delicious and the meats are seasoned and cooked perfectly. Presentation of the food is also beautiful for those of you who like to post pics. Think Cafe has a nice wine selection with choices covering the scale of affordable to splurge. We usually order several bottles and appetizers for the table and from apps to desserts, I've never had anything I didn't like here. The service is consistently impressive to me because the wait staff are caring, knowledgeable of the menu, professional and the food comes out accurately and fast for our large party. I highly recommend for dinner.

Very good and close to cruise terminal.

By Susan S |

We stopped by this lively place for lunch on a Saturday. All four of us had good salads. Mine had chicken and a tasty Asian dressing. Prices were reasonable and it looked like a popular place for locals.

Great accidental discovery

By Scubajunk |

Loved the live music, food was good we had the shrimp curry which was nice and spicy warm but not too hot and another shrimp dish dulcci? that was on special. Atmosphere was nice, service was great, would definitely go there again.

Still wonderful after all this time....

By Sailing_Sweetie |

I have not been here in over a year. Still has a friendly staff and excellent selection of food. Tonight I treated myself to the special filet mignon over steamed spinach with potato wedges and creamy mushroom sauce. Oh and don't forget a crisp glass of wine!

Great Brunch Option Near Princess Cruise Port in San Pedro

By Keith D |

Our daughter picked my wife and I up at the Princess Cruise Port in San Pedro. Through her phone she found Think Cafe as a nearby brunch option. Reviews were very positive. We were seated immediately. The waitress explained that a large group had just placed their order in front of us but we were given drinks right away. The wait for our food was reasonable and the food was certainly delicious. Salmon scrambles and the waffles were excellent. Orange juice was fresh squeezed but hope they'll put less ice in it upon request. If I lived in this area I would definitely return.

Think Cafe... San Pedro, I think it's great!!

By Noelle222 |

This cafe is in the town of San Pedro, not "Los Angeles" like the address states, please update! This small local cafe has the best breakfast menu out there. All kinds of egg dishes to choose from, with a unique number of Benedicts, my fave...is a fresh spinach and crispy bacon one (its fab!!), or the filet, the traditional, the salmon... you name it! So it's the place to go for breakfast, which I believe is served thru lunch time too. They have a great lunch business as the food is good value, a varied menu and more than plentiful. I go for dinner as they have a nice wine list ( and tap beers) and some imaginative specials. The special I had last week was fresh salmon patties (like a crab cake) over stir fried veggies, topped with 2 huge seared scallops with a spicy guac sauce. It was really good, tho I will say that carrots do not belong around seafood, they belong around pot roast and meat dishes. I know it's a cheaper alternative on the bottom line, but it stuck out like a sore thumb on this combo, not at all complimentary to the seafood... brocolli would have been a better choice. Let's dump the carrots, it's a bit cheapo, there must be an easy upgrade for a few pennies that will be embraced by all! Service is friendly and efficient most of the time. The caesar salad is the best around, great dressing chock with loads of fresh grated parmesan slices, yeah.. slices! YUM! Come hungry as you will have plenty of food to enjoy! The ambience is rather lacking in cosiness/ warmth/ romanticity, ( is there such a word?) and is a bit spoiled by the lack of any consistent music in favor of the two TV's that are always on mute. It seems they often forget about adjusting the music for the customer that one would expect with a $26 steak. Not sure why this is! Anyway I do think this is a little neiborhood gem, a few tweaks and it could be FANTASTIC!

Amazing cheesecake

Nice kitchen - like fusion style.. really tasty. High level service and amazing dessert. Recommend to all for good lunch and great mood

Raw Eggs, Tough Steak

By ChiefDennis |

Stopped in for breakfast the other day. I've eaten here on two other occasions and it was not too bad. This breakfast was not that good. I decided to put my diet on hold for breakfast that day and ordered the NY steak and eggs. Ordered the steak medium-rare and the eggs over-easy. Toast was sourdough. I have a "thing" about my toast, and absolutely HATE it when it is brought to my table long before my entree. And that was the case on this visit. It sat there for several minutes while awaiting the delivery of my breakfast. This is unacceptable. When my order arrived, the eggs were over...raw. The top of the eggs were raw. I asked the person who brought the plate (not my waitress) to have the kitchen replace the very raw eggs with over-medium. Hopefully the whites will be cooked. When he returned, one egg was over-almost-hard and the other yolk was broken and hard. It did look like instead of cooking two new eggs, they slipped my old eggs back on the grill-top. The NY steak's size was exceptionally large and that was pleasant and unexpected. However, it was very tough. Overall, not a good breakfast experience at all.

Had eggs with lox and onions, very good, not greasy at all. Others in family had pancakes and enjoyed them. Nice atmosphere. We ate on the patio which was nice.

Unassuming but quite tasty

By RMurray847 |

My wife and I were in San Pedro early on a Monday morning to catch a cruise ship. We knew we'd arrive too early for boarding, so I look for a place nearby to have a nice breakfast. So our driver dropped us off at the doorstep of Think Cafe (20 minutes before opening), luggage in hand! It's in a very unassuming office building on a pretty unassuming street. (But close enough to walk to the port in about 20 minutes later in the morning.) Once the place opened, we were very pleased to be able to sit outside (thanks to nice weather) and we really enjoyed that. It's very private (lots of Paperbark trees, which are cool) provide that privacy. Also made it easy to stash our luggage (later, a couple LEAVING the ship we were to board arrived for breakfast with their luggage in tow...so I guess that happens at Think Cafe fairly often!) The food was all very good. The portions were manageable; so often, breakfast places really pile on the food. Not quite so much here, but plenty of food. AND the prices were quite reasonable to go with that. My fancy omelette, with some sides, was only $12. My wife and I each enjoyed an omelette and then we split the churro waffle, which was a decadent but exceptionally yummy treat. We lingered for awhile, as we had some time to kill, and overall had a pleasant time there. Service was okay, and our waitress warmed up over time following an initial slightly brusque manner. We'd certainly go here again!

Can't Beat this Place!

By rika69 |

After just getting off a cruise, along with the other 4,000 passengers, we were hungry for breakfast. Not wanting to drive too far, we stumbled into the Think Cafe...Strange name, so we thought we would try it. We are glad we did. Excellent food, very good prices, and the service was second to none. We will definitely be back again, next time we are anywhere near San Pedro. EXCELLENT!!

Nice restaurant, with patio or indoor dining.

By JA R |

Nice selection of pasta, chicken, seafood, etc. Sometimes has a small band playing. Downtown San Pedro location, with no views, but worth going for the food.

Best Sand Dabs in years!!

By ExWaveQB |

I was born and raised in San Pedro but have not lived there in years. I went back yesterday for a high school reunion which was held at Think Cafe. Having never heard of this place before, I had no idea what to expect. I must say that I would definitely return to this great addition to San Pedro's restaurant scene. It is a newly built, stylish cafe with ample parking on 5th St. in San Pedro. The ambiance of the site and the decor was comforting and the service for our gathering was excellent. Other than spending quality time with old and dear friends, the next best thing about this cafe was the food. I was just blown away and the prices were more than reasonable. My wife and I both ordered the Sand Dabs. I didn't have to THINK about it because I love fish and one of my all time favorites is the little sand dab caught fresh from deep, cold waters off the California coast. Think Cafe chefs, in my opinion, outdid them selves with this delightful, tasty and satisfying dish presented over a small bed of crispy vegetables. What a treat! The fish was cooked perfectly and I could not not have been more pleased. I will return. If I lived closer, the Think Cafe would be a weekly visit for me. Congrats to the owners and the chefs at this new addition to San Pedro.

Reliable and delicious

By Veewat |

Very good breakfasts and their orange juice is fresh-squeezed, which is the main reason we make this a regular visit on the weekends.

Lovely patio and delicious food

By irenem k |

Restaurant with an unexpectedly nice patio given its location in a boxy/bland business building. Have gone a few times, mostly for lunch, throughout the year and the food is always good.

Great Service and Good Food in Downtown San Pedro

By ChiefDennis |

I live nearby and am always looking for new breakfast spots in San Pedro...other than the "usual suspects." Heard about Think Cafe and decided to stop in on a Friday morning. Place was not very busy and had my choice of tables. The waitress was friendly and efficient, and took my order in no time at all. The breakfast menu should have enough unique selections to satisfy most anyone: "Filet Benedict" with poached eggs, grilled ;tomatoes, filet mignon, topped with Hollandaise sauce; "Meat Lovers Omelet" with bacon, ham, sausage, and cheddar cheese; Denver omelet, etc. I opted for the "Ham Scrambler" that included ham, bell peppers, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese. It came with hash browns and toast. There was not a lot of flavor in the dish, and the mushrooms were not pre-sauteed; they were crunchy. The hash brows were the thinnest I have ever seen, and were a bit oily. Even with these first-time "issues," I would still return to Think Cafe. I think they deserve another try and am looking forward to my next visit.

Lunch at Think Cafe

Nice restaurant in an unexpected place

By Peter R |

I have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed the food, the contemporary, bright, and airy ambiance, and of course the staff. It seems oddly situated, but well worth finding for a relaxing caual time and tasty meal. Great place for couples or larger groups of which I have seen several.

Mostaccioli!!

By Sendairocks |

A friend took me to this restaurant after a long plane ride into LAX. The dipping sauce for the fresh bread and the mostaccioli was delicious. The unique pecan beer was good too.

Patio luncheon

By gwlj |

Attended 30+ person luncheon that was held on patio of this restaurant. Staff was most accommodating during set up. Choice of four entrees made it easy for guests to make selection. My fish was superb, and all those at my table found their choice to be great. Since I am not from Southern California, maybe I am easily impressed, but salad was very fresh and good. Was guest so can not comment on the $ of the meal.
