You'll either want a reservation or to come early as it gets packed. The drinks are really fun, strong, but pricey. This is a great place to come with a group of friends for a drink or two. I have not tried the food.

Everything about this tiki bar is on point! Alley way entrance, looks like the catacombs as you go down the stairs to find this dark yet colorful bar with fun (and strong) drinks to share and good bar small plates.

Reservations are highly recommended since we were only able to get a table for two people midweek at 4:30. The entrance was in the alley and the bar was down a flight of stairs. We have been to quite a few tiki bars in California and was not impressed with the experience of sitting inches away from the next table, so dark that a flashlight was needed to see the menu or uncomfortably crammed into a small hut paying $15 or more for average cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Three Dots and a Dot were none of the above. Instead, it was a classy, fun and spacious place to enjoy a unique cocktail transforming people from the cold Chicago weather to a Caribbean vacation. I am not a huge fan of coconut shrimp but they were the best I had ever eaten! The menu perfectly described the cocktails and even listed how strong the alcohol level. Great atmosphere and great cocktails!

Creative Polynesian inspired hot spot. I highly suggest you make a reservation in advance as this place packs quickly because it is so popular. Sometimes you need to book days in advance. I come several times a year when visiting Chicago and it is worth every penny.

Location is hidden in an alley- withTiki lights being the giveaway! Knowledgeable bartenders. Nice selection of rums.Cocktails are pricey as others noted BUT presentation and quality are both there. Looks like artisanal designed and made drinking vessels to homemade syrups and beautiful fresh fruits and flowers topping off the libations. Drinks change for the seasons. Crab Rangoon appetizers are clearly made there versus typical crab rangoon, they were served with four sauces. If you are looking for a fun tiki bar with upscale alcoholic beverages - try this place out!

An underground speakeasy that is now the coolest tiki bar. I called to make reservations about a week before we would be in Chicago and the only time I could get was 4:30 pm (it opens at 4). I called ahead to know where to go because it is down an alley. It was easy to find and not scary at all being that it was in an alley. There are lit tiki torches lining the entrance so it’s easy to spot. We got there a little after 4 and every table was reserved. The atmosphere was cool and the drinks were great. We loved the cups and the food was good also. It is definitely something you should do and is a lot of fun. Just make your reservation.

We had a bite to eat at the N Clark St. Bub City Chicago/3 Dots and a Dash with friends. Lots to choose from on the menu. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food, and the portions were generous. The Bub City Gold and the Old Style drafts were good, too! Our server Hannah was awesome!

If you are in the area and have time, make sure you stop in to try a drink or two and the luau chips and guac. We were lucky to grab a table without a reservation because we had a train to catch so we had to leave before the reserved table was needed. Next time, I will definitely reserve a table to make sure we are able to go back. Super fun environment and drinks. Yummy chips!

We are in a Chicago for just a few days, but I knew I wanted to squeeze in a drink at this bar. The line in the alley was quick, but we were unable to get a table (did not realize they took reservations). We hung out by the bar until someone left, and snagged two seats. We started with the Three Dots and a Dash and the Jet Pilot. Very different, and enjoyed, but wouldn’t order again. We then ordered the Anawana to share. Delicious! Strong! Highly recommend. We enjoyed watching the bartenders work, as the pace and good nature in which they are creating the drinks is impressive. We stayed about an hour, but agreed that if we had a table we could have easily spent several hours and dropped several hundred dollars there. Fun place, not pretentious, a great mix of local and tourist, singles in their twenties and older in couples. Very fun; I highly recommend!

It's not somewhere I would go go every day but it's worth a visit for the amazing cocktails and hassle-free clientele. Not really a restaurant though food is served, more a "bar that does side dishes". A great place to go after you have had your evening meal and want to enjoy some unusual drinks and good company in the evening. Ambiance is good and the doorstaff seem to do a great job as there were no hassles or dramas inside the club when we went (pre covid). Other bars in the area were a little more ""intimidating and shouty" Here the ladies could relax too. Not geared up for families with young children - it's a bar - and although dress seemed to vary from formal to smart casual, you may not fit-in if you turn up looking as though you had made no effort at all. It gets very busy but seems well run and despite being very full, "felt safe and civilised" as everyone appeared to be having a good time and relaxing with friends. Definitely worth a visit - but worth calling them to see if you need a reservation for the night you intend to visit.

This place is awesome, the entrance is through a back alley and after you enter you step down into a hidden world which seems thousands of miles from Chicago. Total Vacation vibe...go for the Mai Tai if you like classic Tiki Drinks, like me.

A friend from Chicago told me we should go out and we went here and had drinks. It was incredibly packed, so if you have any desire to get food and/or a table, get there early! Drinks are fun. A little pricy but well served, and very delicious. I like the secret club vibe to it and the tiki theme is very in right now. Very enjoyable and I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Tucked in an alley and steps below the surface is this tiki inspired hot spot. Drinks are very expensive but very tasty. I had the too many chiefs drink which in four steps was gone but the fresh fruit around the rim was amazing. My husband had one of their signature cocktails listed with two skulls which meant very strong and indeed it was! Although we did not order any of the appetizers on the menu the table next to us did and they looked amazing. Our server was very nice, we just stopped in to have a couple of drinks because someone told us about this place and she didn't mind at all that we were just having a couple of drinks and leaving. Don't forget your ID because they ID everyone! And we did notice someone getting turned away because they had a jersey on it was a baseball afternoon but they apparently do not allow jerseys. They do take reservations which apparently are highly recommended and they have party rooms that you can rent. The drinks range from $14 to 20 some dollars. They also serve group drinks which are very pricey. If you're the bucket of beer type this place isn't for you but if you're looking for a neat atmosphere and some very tasty creative drinks and don't mind throwing down some bucks this is a great place to hang out.

You must visit this place when in Chicago!! It was so much fun! The atmosphere was electric, the apps were delicious and the drinks did not disappoint!!! We had amazing service and thoroughly enjoyed our time here! We will be back and have already recommended it to so many people!

We went on a Friday night and didn’t have high expectations but we were so wrong. We waited in line outside for less than five minutes. The ambiance inside was really cool. It was busy at the bar but we eventually got a seat in front of a bartender. The drinks were delicious, and expensive but worth every penny. My husband and I each got a single and then shared a group drink. We also shared the coconut shrimp and it was probably the best I’ve ever eaten. I would come back to this place every time I’m in Chicago.

My friend and I decided to check out this bar on a Friday night and wisely made reservations for 7 PM. It turned out to be a smart move because the place quickly filled up, and many patrons were directed to the bustling bar area. Thankfully, we had a cozy corner tucked away in the bamboo room, providing a more intimate setting amidst the lively atmosphere. The service was top-notch, with a bartender who not only served our drinks promptly but also entertained us with colorful descriptions of each concoction. While the appetizers we tried were decent, it’s clear that the real star of the show here is the drinks and the vibrant crowd. So, if you’re looking for a memorable evening filled with great cocktails and a lively ambiance, this is the place to be!

We got a spot at the bar and got to watch the bartenders make very unique and tasty drinks. Pretty impressive process. I will say that the drinks are definitely overpriced ($15-20). And if you order one of their larger drinks for multiple people, it takes a really long time, we waited like 45 minutes for one of our jumbo drinks.

Heard lot of reference for this place. It is there and not there kind of place and from outside you will not realise how many people are already there inside. Go early. Try to make a booking. We had to wait at the bar which was over crowded already but the whole vibe made us wait. The way the bartender makes the drink and decorates them and serves them in stylish way is crazy good. Not to be missed place.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. My husband stumbled across it on Google after I asked him to see if there were any tiki bars in Chicago worth going to. I’m so glad we found it! We showed up right at open on Saturday without a reservation and we were able to get in right away. Our server was incredible, she was so nice and very attentive. We loved our drinks, so fun! We got the Zombie, the Painkiller, the blueberry booby, the coffee grog, and the rum barrel. All fantastic. We also ordered apps and they were all delicious! Especially the Thai chicken, the pork sliders, crab Rangoon, and the steak skewers were also great. The vibe, atmosphere, the decor - everything was top notch. I would come back to Chicago JUST to come here. Loved it!

The art of the Tiki cocktail is back and alive and well at Three Dots and a Dash!. Boy is this place hard to find. It's actually in an alley way off Clark. You'll need to look for the Tiki torches otherwise you'll have to search a little - which I did. It's got the "dark bar" thing going on. But I wish they would have played more "exotica" music to help the mood more. But, that's my only complaint and it's a small one. So, I was just here for drinks and sampled their menu pretty extensively. Of course, the standard is the Mai-Tai. There was a drink called Felicia #3 which was very good too. The Gingerbread Pain Killer is a seasonal drink. They were are all good and they way the bartenders garnish the drinks is simply astounding. I had a great time for the 3 hours I spent here but I will tell you it gets crowded and this is in just in the afternoon. I was there on a Saturday when they opened at 2pm. The only negative I can say about how crowded it was is there was one jerk there who simply didn't understand the concept of other peoples personal space. It was a minor annoyance that passed eventually when he moved. And again, this isn't the restaurant's fault. I didn't eat here but when I tried looking for a reservation there were none to be had. The website says they welcome walk ins though. They do make drinks that are meant to be shared and you can also share just about any drink on the menu even if it's just for one because they don't skimp on liquor. Plus, the cost per drink might want to make you consider sharing anyway. Great place but consider coming early having a drink or two and then leaving. That is, of course, unless you can get a reservation.

We were visiting from out of state and heard of Three Dots and a Dash on a travel blog. I didn't have that difficult of a time finding it since I was aware it was in an alley, they had tiki torches glowing at the entrance so it was easy to spot if you looked down the alley. From the minute you walk in and see the glowing wall of skulls and tropical music playing, you quickly realize this place is going to be awesome! It was packed but the bartender spotted us standing behind people sitting at the bar and quickly took our order and prepared our drinks. I ordered the Pain Killer, I prefer to taste the alcohol when I get fruity drinks so I don't feel like I am sipping on a slurpie and I was not disappointed. It was delicious! Definitely check this place out, it's a great spot to warm up on a chilly Chicago day. If you prefer a table, you need to make reservations ahead of time. There were none available so we just stood.

Incredible Tiki bar with fantastic food options, incredible vibe and a staff that is both knowledgable and empowered by management to make your experience special. Gets super busy on the weekends because of the quality of location it is. If your group needs a table, get a res a few weeks in advance or expect to sit/stand at the bar.

Cool spot to visit and hang out for awhile. Only tried a couple drinks that were fine but the vibe is fun

A very exotic drink and food experience in the heart of Chicago, located on a side street and down the steps.the dink menu is spectacular . I had the Japanese whiskey which was very good. The service was excellent. We had the poopoo platter for three which was more than enough!

We had a fun time, but we walked in without reservations and stood the entire time we were there. We had only drinks but they were fun and imaginative. I would like to go again with reservations.

The décor and the drink options were superb! But the atmosphere was too crowded, the line to the bar was about 6 people deep. But I must say the bartenders kept it flowing in a timely manner. The drink ware was very elaborate to the décor and large/heavy, you would think where was more seating options.

We went to both Three Dots and Lost Lake. Both do tiki well. Great original tiki and fantastic "classic" tiki. The big difference is environment....Three Dots feels like a cheezy chain bar. A little over the top and forced. Drinks were GREAT. Food was GREAT. Those don't feel chainy...but it definitely feels like a tiki version of TGIFridays.

We stopped in after a concert. The place was packed. The hostess suggested we get a table instead of waiting at the bar. It was a great suggestion. People were standing 4 people deep at the bar. We had a server helping us 30 seconds after we got seated. The drinks are big, fun, and strong.

I went to three dots and a dash with friends for a bachelorette, and they spilled a huge cocktail on our dresses and jackets, mine is completely ruined ! Besides that, every cocktail that they gave us tasted completely different than the previous one even though it was supposed to be the same! And their answer was: its just lower in sugar and the waiter brought a jar of sugar to the tabl le for us to fix it. (It had different flavors and we didn’t like it at all but we still got charged for it) All to say, the place is cool but overrated and the staff needs better training.

The place felt like an escape! everything from the atmosphere, to the drinks and how the staff dressed was all right in line. Perfect drinks that were also beautiful! A must if you enjoy good cocktails.

Tucked away through an alley, leading you to a basement.... this is a way to escape Chicago for a bit. Bartenders are super knowledgeable... with a wide variety of Hawaiian inspired cocktails. Great rum selection. If you’re hanging out in North River, give them a try. Won’t disappoint.

This place is terrible! Don’t go! Many other places in a Chicago are better and friendlier! Don’t waste your time!

We found this place after seeing an article about unique restaurants in Chicago. It was only blocks away from our hotel, so we had to check it out! Reservations were hard to come by on a Friday night, but our hotel concierge was able to get them to sneak us in. If you're planning on going over the weekend, it's best to get reservations well in advance unless you want to stand at the bar. The exotic drinks, tropical decor, and intoxicating drink presentation really drew us in. We split a Lapu Lapu and a Shotstopus. The drinks were very sweet (a little too much so) and tasty, but were not strong enough to pack a punch. For food, we tried the Thai Fried Chicken. The chicken was sweet and spicy and I wish we didn't fill up so much on the drinks because we weren't able to finish it all, which was our loss! Overall, this would be a fabulous venue for happy hour drinks or a night out with friends. While we had a good time, we didn't think it was as fun without a bigger group.

Such a cool gem. The theme is out of this world in the heart of downtown Chicago. Super cool bar. It's totally tiki theme; they knock it out of the park. Wish we were earlier to try the bites but next time.

This is my 2nd visit and definitely the best!! Can be hard to find, but so worth it once you do!! Made reservations about a week early and we had a great seating area where we enjoyed amazing drinks and a platter of food that perfect for picking at. Great time, great service!!

Stopped in for pre dinner drinks. Atmosphere was Hawaiian / tiki with drinks in a really cool glassware. Drinks were a bit pricey and mainly rum based. If you’re not a rum fan, you won’t get a fun drink in a fancy cup. The glassware is for sale but extremely pricey as well. Sat at the bar (luckily we were able to snag seats). Recommended for a pre or post dinner drink just for the experience.

cozy tiki type bar, drinks are amazing, most around $15-20. great atmosphere, very good service. food menu short but excellent

We were not expecting to wait when we showed up for a couple drinks and apps. The line was so slow and long. We decided to wait it out and ended up getting super lucky getting a table with the hostess as someone cancelled. We were so grateful we did. Cool vibe and awesome drinks. A little dark to see in there but no big deal. The food and drinks were so delicious. The prices compared to everywhere else we went in Chicago for drinks or food were not bad at all. We had alot of crappy drinks at diff places for the same price or more. Here they were in cool cups and dressed up cool/cute! Definitely would recommend!

We stopped into this tiki bar and craft cocktail place after a big dinner and the thought of freshest exotic fruits and spices in mixed drinks sounded perfect. We were not disappointed. Three Dots and Dash uses the finest rums and distilled spirits, and juices and elixirs that are cold-pressed and concocted in-house. I ordered their Aloha Felicia ($15), with aged Brazilian Cachaça, Caribbean Rum, Coconut, Lime, Pineapple. I wanted something sweet and this drink had subtle flavors akin to a pina colada, and was decent—not something I would order again, but perhaps others would enjoy it more. My date ordered their Jet Pilot ($15), and drink with Jamaican Overproof Rum Blend, Lime, Grapefruit, Falernum, Cinnamon, Absinthe, Bitters. She is on the opposite end of me and loved her drink. Overall, this is a neat place to get novel and unique drinks that will make you think you’re somewhere in Polynesia.

I just love Three Dots and a Dash. We've been here several times, but our most recent visit was October 26. We had a reservation, and had a good time as always. I loved their new drinks. Especially the shots that come out on a smokey octopus. It was cool. It's always pretty crowded when we come, but I always make a reservation in advance, so the crowd never bothers us. We always seems to get great waitresses, who help us out with our drink choices. I haven't had a bad time here yet. It's fun, lively, and a great place to check out, especially during the weekend.

This was a choice for “dinner” at a conference. It is a bar with appetizers so manage your expectations regarding food. The decor was fun and the drink options seem endless. The food was average at best but again I think folks should come here to drink umbrella drinks. The entrance is behind the building down an alley so your Uber driver can not drop you at the entrance.

We came here for a Saturday happy hour prior to dinner. First, better make a reservation to be safe. It is a really kook entrance down the stairs leading to this tiki bar like vibe. The drinks are just so unique. We should have gotten one of the bigger drinks to share but still enjoyed the individual drinks to sample more variety. There is seating outside but inside is much better.

This is a tough spot to find! GPS will say “YOU HAVE ARRIVED!” No you haven’t! Head east behind the building to the alley and you will see lighted tiki torches and doormen to greet you! Very dark atmosphere with 20 something’s. I’m 40 something and sorta felt respected more than I should have by staff! They seated us at a table immediately, probably figured our feet hurt and bones ached! Fun drinks. Neat atmosphere. Pricy, but an experience. The kitchen was closed for the evening, menu looked good for a hearty snack. Would definitely go back!

Fun tiki bar atmosphere with great drinks, knowledgeable servers, and a nice selection of appetizers. A trendy place with prices to match. Three in our group eat gluten and dairy free, and our server was great about explaining which appetizers would work and which could be modified. For the tuna poke, the kitchen made great little lettuce cups to substitute for the chips that usually come with it.

Literally garbage. They took an online reservation and want to seat you outside in the alley next to garbage. What a waste of time this place was! Overpriced and not worth it.

The vibe is perfect, the steak skewers were tasty (but a bit overpriced), and the two cocktails we tried were standouts among many drinks that weekend. Our server was knowledgeable and was spot on with her recommendations. I only wish they had swizzle sticks, as we collect them for use at home to remember all the great tiki bars.

This is hands down my favourite place to take friends when they visit Chicago or to celebrate with local ones. The cocktails are delicious and charismatic. The atmosphere makes you forget that you are in chicago, which is especially appreciated in winter. The food is great for sharing and pairs perfectly with the drinks. Im already planning another visit for the next time I pass through Chicago.

This hard to find bar is worth the effort. The Rum Barrel drinks were excellent. The Shotopamus group drink was great for a group with an amazing presentation. Find this hidden gem and enjoy Tiki time with delicious rum drinks.

We were recommended by friends who love this place! Opens at 2pm on a Saturday and there was already a line!!!!..... we had no reservation and were told “well you can have a table but need to leave by 3.15pm”....... this pace is huge. Several small rooms all done out Disney tiki style.... If you like rum drinks you will be happy. I am not a fan so ordered an allegedly gin based cocktail (couldn’t taste gin at all). The service is A+ but we were sitting in clear view of the bar. There were 3 bar staff standing around doing nothing despite a healthy clientele. We noticed all the drinks came from a back room area....... hmmm....... were thinking they are all pre made in giant tubs or something. Why didn’t we see the bar staff mixing and a shaking??..... very suspicious. I do have to say the drinks that arrived look stunning. Fresh flowers and all....... stoneware drinking containers and the younger generation seemed to revel in the shared drink cocktails with dry ice and other theatrical decorations. This place is billed as a speakeasy. No. Not even close....... expect you need to know how to find it! Will not be back.

The place is amazing, well executed concept and the space and staff definitely make you feel like a VIP. The entrance to the bar in a alley, you will spot the door when you see the torches. Now in terms of food, we order the Captain Dino's Pu Pu Platter, which had a incredible fried chicken and the rest of the platter was pretty good. Portions are really small. And for drinks, there are a lot of options with Rum (of course!) but in general drinks are great, although i have to say, it is over priced in terms of food and drinks despite the fact the place has a higher standard with their service and whole experience. Music was a kinda loud which make it hard to have a conversation.

Had a great time. Booked in the bamboo room. Team was amazing. Drinks were amazing. Loved our time. Will return for sure!

We were referred to this restaurant by family and decided to adventure into town to check it out. We quickly learned that it's normally all booked with reservations but we got lucky being there on a Monday and were quickly sat. The drink menu was exciting. It may have been intimidating to some but we love drink-bingo so it was right up our alley. The food menu was limited but the three items we ordered were all outstanding. The service was great. The server was knowledgeable and attentive but didn't rush us or hover. The ambiance was fun and unique and we wanted to stay longer but also realized that some of their drinks are strong. Given the chance to do it again, I'd try to bring a large(r) group so that we could try some of the multi-person drinks. I was intrigued by them but not ambitious enough to order one and risk wasting the experience on reliving my college years. Definitely a great spot and a new go-to for us every time we visit!

Atmosphere was so much fun, drinks were even better. So impressed with the presentation of the Stranger Danger. Really happy to see the reservation cost applied to the bill as well.

A true tiki bar! Three Dots and a Dash did not disappoint. Enter from the alley and down to the basement you’ll be transported to a Polynesian paradise. Good strong tropical drinks. Drinks run about 15 dollars each. A bit on the pricy side, especially for the mugs. 60 dollars is steep but the atmosphere is great, the vibe is just right and the service was excellent. If you’re a tiki aficionado, you’ll love it!

This is a very popular place so make a reservation if you are 4 or more people! The line outside can be a little long but be patient. The space is not huge and it’s definitely crowded but it’s so cool inside! Not only is it an awesome looking upscale tiki bar but the drinks are fun and inventive. It’s not cheap but it’s not the most expensive place either! If you have a large party consider some of the large speciality drinks like the pirate ship.

We visited Three Dots and a Dash on a Tuesday as a prelude to our dinner plans for cocktails and appetizers. The drinks were very good with their descriptions right on the money and the presentation astounding. We also had a few appetizer. The coconut shrimp and the Yuca Frites. Both were served beautifully, fresh, and they left us wanting more. This place is hard to get into without a reservation, but well worth a visit.

This is a very nice bar! Fantastic drinks, nice music and ambiance. Since we where two we didn’t make a reservation so we went to the bar and stayed stand. But you show better make reservations. Try it!

TDD is very cool place to have a few drinks. The decor is all tiki, and I love it. We were there on Monday, and it was packed. The tiki drink menu is extensive. We loved all of the drinks, and we tried a good variety of them. Come for the party and drinks. Enjoy!!!

Enjoyed ducking into the alley and downstairs to the tiki bar experience that is Three Dots and a Dash. Enjoyed a fun snowman tiki drink and the puu puu platter. Love the merch that’s for sale too!

It's a classic tiki bar with wonderfully crafted drinks, good snacks, and a great rum selection. Our server was terrific. The house drink, three dots and a dash, was an exceptional rum drink with a hint of allspice that made it special. Hubby had several rums--which were good. Painkiller was another good drink, but I personally preferred the Tree Dots. We made dinner of appetizers--spring rolls, the rice salad and Thai chicken. The spring rolls were plentiful with good sauces but they were fairly bland. The salads was great. The Thai chicken was good. You enter by an alley and immediate have a long dark set of stairs. Be sure to join the Lettuce Entertain You loyalty program. You'll earn substantial discounts over time.

This place is very well done... Small, intimate, tiki bar style restaurant. It's mostly known for its fun and exotic drinks so food isn't the draw. We did however share a pupu platter and I thought it was very good. Chill, darkish place to sit back and talk, drink and nosh with some nice background music. I loved the experience.

Super coole Bar… unerwartet und die Ultra-Cocktails für einen Spot-Preis. Must seen in Chicago !! Thx guys !! Music selection also the best !!!

Very dark, very expensive for not the best quality of food or drink. Music so loud you couldn't have a conversation.

Enter through the alley & down some stairs to a dark & trendy tiki bar. We stayed in the bar since we didn’t have reservations so I’d suggest making reservations for the full experience.

We had a private party in the small bar with heavy appetizers. Great signature drinks and one of the best collections of rum I’ve seen. A dark environment with a tropical mood. Staff were all friendly and prompt

We visited in Summer, August 22. Trendy bar, creative decoration and very well managed. I had made a mistake on my reservation dates, the Manager at the door took care of it, very professionaly. The highlights are the amazing drinks, we tried 4 different ones, you can’t go wrong. Appetizers are tasty (we had little hamburgers). Two tips: the Waze location points it wrong, it’s actually on the alley behind main street, on the basement level (part of the cool vibe). And do make reservations, it’s a nice place therefore, very busy.

Love this place! The back entrance was super well lit and decorated with tiki torches and string lights. The vibe was amazing with the music and lighting. You won’t get a table or seat at the bar if you don’t have a reservation so plan for that. We got two of the same drinks and mine was MUCH stronger so be careful with the Tropical Itch lol!

I'll be honest- drinks were great. Bartenders were great. All other staff-awful. A server actually punched me in the back. Another pushed me. Despite what was good about this place, I cant recommend this place to anyone.

Wonderful tiki bar atmosphere filled with cozy tables and a bar. Drinks were strong, but just know what you are getting into and you are sure to enjoy! I could not catch a break because each drink i got was better and better! The presentation was amazing. The tropical itch was a hoot coming with an actual backscratcher! Great drunk toy to entertain lol. Highly recommend this place. My friend lives in Chicago and says this is her fave cocktail bar if that says anything

This is a unique bar serving rum centric drinks and providing buffets for large group parties. Service was excellent at all positions. Drinks were decent and the food was OK.

We come to Chicago often, Went here for the first time. Amazing time. The atmosphere is so nice, you dont feel like you are in Chicago. It makes you feel like you are at a tiki bar in the beach. It is a hidden gem. You have to give down the alley to get to it. The alley is lit up with sting lights up top. There are torches and a mural on the wall outside. They only serve small appetizers. We did have some. They were good. We also had several drinks as well. These are not the usual drinks. Very different from the drinks that you are used to. It is a bit expensive as well. I would definitely go back.

I kinda liked the fact that the entrance was hidden in an alley. The drinks were very tasty if a bit expensive, but it is the city. Definitely will be back and will bring friends.

Three Dots and a Dash is the coolest bar in Chicago. Both fun and romantic with incredible drinks and service. Entry is through the alley between Clark and Dearborn (look for the tiki torches). We like to sit at the bar when possible because the bartenders are so personable and a combination of artists and mad scientists. The drinks are nice and strong and so good. We also ordered the shotsapuss- a great presentation with dry ice vapor pouring all over! We sat at a table this visit and our server Carly Was so excellent. Fast and responsive and so friendly and upbeat. Last, manager Kurt stopped by to say hello and see how everything was. He always makes us feel so welcome and makes our experience at Three Dots so great. It’s Our favorite venue in Chicago.

This place is awesome. Atmosphere, drink presence, bartenders. This was my favorite place we visited on our trip to Chicago. Almost everywhere is about $15 a cocktail- This place makes it well worth it!

Only visit this place if you have a reservation or you are white. The entrance guy first let us wait outside for no reason and then pretended like he was doing a huge favor by letting us in. Our mood was already spoiled by this time but still we didn't wanted to ruin our evening and went inside. We had couple of drinks at the bar and then were dancing on the floor when the bouncer came twice and asked us to be away from the reserved area which was like miles away from us. I believe he was just looking for an excuse and when he came the third time he asked us to leave the place. That's when we realized it was all because of our skin color and he was just being racist.

This place is voted in the top 50 bars in the nation. I have wanted to check it out for some time. I didn't have the opportunity to reserve a table for dining. However, I tried two of their specialty drinks and they were incredible! Of all the places I traveled and bars I've visited, this tops them all. Great music as well :) It's in a great , safe location. If this is not already on your "to do" list, add it!!

Hidden gem. Not easy to find but once in there a very sheekh atmosphere. Food was on a small menu but great. Cocktails were amazing

This is a lovely underground speakeasy esque bar serving great drinks and food with a relaxing vibe, friendly staff great selection of liquor and some awesome cocktails what could go wrong. It's situated by the fire station,I would visit here again and recommend it to friends and family

This place is soo much fun. Stopped here while spending night in the city. Great service! Yummy drinks! Lively atmosphere

I read online that you could stop in to Three Dots and a Dash and enjoy a cocktail. Upon entering the place down a funky stairway we came to a host who informed us that we needed reservations. Fortunately he was able to seat our group of four. The cocktails are not your average cocktails. Three of us ordered a fun (and large drink served in a huge sea horse glass). I asked for a recommendation and the waiter suggested Idle Hands. I was nervous as the main flavor is banana. OMG - it was amazing. I loved it. We cant wait to go back and have a sit down for more drinks and try the food.

This bar is a great way to start off your evening. It’s a fun atmosphere with really cool drinks. We had to get a shareable drink just for the special effects. It was certainly something to see!

Just a fun place in an unexpected location. Great energy, service, and drinks. Can not wait to bring friends along next time.So good!

When looking at places to eat and go in Chicago, Three Dots and a Dash made the list! Looking at the many pictures it looked like a fun place to go for a drink! I was excited to go and try out this experience. I liked how it was set up like a tiki bar, but didn’t like how dark it was inside. The bar was really crowded and we really didn’t get a good vibe when we walked in, but I still wanted to try it out! So I ordered the Three Dots and a Dash drink and it was pretty good! It came in a cute mug and was big enough to share, which is what I did. All of the drinks were expensive, but I later learned that all drinks were really expensive in Chicago lol. I wasn’t sure if the mugs were souvenirs or not so I left it behind :(. Didn’t stay long after finishing our drink. Probably wouldn’t go back... something was just off...

This place is completely unexpected. We were on vacation and someone recommended to us. We enjoyed the environment, drinks and food very much. Nice place for couples and groups. Love the presentation of the dishes for large groups. Prices are average. Make sure you make reservation if you are going on Friday or Saturday night.

This is a really nice and interesting bar. They serve great drinks that are very potent. It gets very crowded and I highly recommend making a reservation.

I was in Chicago for business and arrived at 3 Dots and a Dash's alley about 11:30 on a Thursday night. The place was absolutely mobbed buy I was able to make my way to the bar. Bartender acknowledged me and handed me a drink menu. Decided what I wanted...Aloha Felicia. Stood there patiently as he created these amazing cocktails with loads of garnishments on them. 3 bartenders were working that night fyi... Taking several minutes to make each drink, I was ok with waiting for my clever concoction. Bartender kept saying "I'll be right with you, sir." A "regular" then arrived and got his drink ahead of me. Then some jerk bellied up to the bar and gave the bartender a 3 drink order and he actually started to make them looking me saying, "I'll be right you sir"... I left. Wow. I realize what its like to be busy as a bartender. I also know that when you acknowledge a patron, you honor your acknowledgemnt. I was going to go to another bartender but he'd already gotten me taken care of... Or so I thought.

This basement bar is a lot fun and serves some fantastic drinks! Came on a Tuesday night so we had no problem getting a reservation. Drinks were extremely fresh and tasty (and boozy). Highly recommend.

This place is a “Hot Spot” on the weekends Jezz, took us about a month to get a reservation for Friday, this year lace does have valet parking if you drive. The entrance is threw one of Chicago’s many ally’s lined with tiki torches along the way. Walking down the stairs the excitement has reached its peak, and after the hostess walked us to our seats my eyes were happy with the colors of the decor. If you walk in you may sit at the bar and you don’t need a reservation but come early because there are only 12 seats or so. The menu I felt was umm ? Drinks and finger food, this is definitely a spot for drinks and socializing, there was one similar spot in SanFrancisco that had the same feel but stronger drinks lol. The finger food was just ok we tried everything and I felt some items were frozen and just heated up and not a freshly made. No problem because I’m not here to really eat I’m here for the drinks and they had plenty to choose from. Go and enjoy yourself great for couples and groups “ they have Group drinks “.

Truly a hidden gem. This Speakeasy is in the basement and is quite entertaining with its tiki hut atmosphere. Drinks are the reason you go and they have a terrific selection

The bar is not very accessible- you must descend a long staircase, but the décor is fun. We ended up sitting outside because the music was too loud for my companion. The crab rangoons actually tasted like crab! We enjoyed our cocktails and will return on our next trip to Chicago.

The drinks presentation is amazing. I was not wowed by the drinks themselves though. The atmosphere is really fun as well. I would definitely recommend for a few drinks before getting dinner. It was also fun for a couple but I think it would be even more fun as a group. There were some pretty fun drinks that serve 3+. Make reservations!!! It was a fun unique find!

Got a little lost trying to find the alleyway this gem was hidden in but once we saw the tiki torches and then the skull wall we knew we were in for a treat. The hostess were friendly and helpful and our waitress was amazing recommending food and drink items THOUGH her recommendation of the Zombie was a mistake haha. Not a tasty drink and we knew after the first sip that we were going to be feeling pretty good by the time we finished it! Definitely recommend and definitely will be returning next time I’m in Chicago. Oh! Order the coconut shrimp - trust me.

So, if you put the address in your gps, it's going to bring you to the front of the building and you will be confused where to go. You need to walk towards the back of the building and go down an alley.... where you will see some tiki torches. Follow the torches to the back steps and you will enter Three Dots and a Dash! If you plan on eating or getting a table, reservations are a must prior. We didn't make a reservation so just went to the bar and ordered drinks. Drinks are about $15 a piece and come in these cool mugs with beautiful fresh flowers and fruit. The ambiance is really cool. We just stayed for one drink. It was really packed in there, but I would go back!

Visiting from the UK! I really enjoyed this place it was definitely my favourite bar I visited in Chicago. The service was great and the atmosphere was really nice. Cocktails are the most amazing things in the world and are definitely value for the price. Had a really great time here! Definitely would visit again!

The bar is a cute little spot tucked back in an alley. We made reservations for the bamboo room. We were seated promptly when we arrived and decided to sit at the bar to watch our drinks come together. The place is very dark and intimate, decorated in the kitsch tiki theme which I loved. We ordered a total of 4 of their featured drinks and the PuPu Platter to eat. Food was delicious (a tad pricey) and the drinks were pricey but were strong, tasty and served with such a flair—we couldn’t believe what all went into making them. Our only minor complaint was the bartender seemed to dislike us. He was schmoozing and going out of his way for both parties sat next to us snd while he took our drink and food orders and served our stuff, he was definitely showing them more attention and personality and gave us the bare minimum. I would def go back tho because overall the place is darling.

This tiki bar was recommended to us by a family friend, and was SO FUN. It's located in an alleyway between Hubbard & Illinois (if you're walking down Hubbard toward Clark St, you'll see the alleyway on your right. If you walk past Firecakes Donuts on your right, you've gone too far). There are flaming tiki torches out front, and after stepping into a doorway, you head down steps into a dark, tropical-themed tiki bar. The attention to detail with all of the decor was amazing! To add to the fun, the presentation of the cocktails was incredible! They use heavy-duty ceramic tiki mugs for the cocktails instead of regular glasses, and they have several different style mugs for the variety of cocktails. The extensive list of unique cocktails on their menu made it difficult to choose just one, however, we were finally able to make a decision and were not only impressed but very happy with our selection. I went with the Isle of Mango (vanilla-infused blended scotch whiskey, mango, pineapple, horchata orgeat) and my boyfriend got the Lower Wacker (bonded bourbon, 151 guyana rum, maraschino, red vermouth, honey, lime, grapefruit). **Side note: any cocktail with a skull image after the description is a warning that the cocktail is strong. I wish we were able to stay and try some food (they do offer some Polynesian-inspired food items ), but we stuck to the two cocktails since we were heading to dinner afterwards. Helpful tip: It's open seating at the bar, but you need a reservation for their tables. We got to the bar around 5pm on a weekday, and the bar seats were all already full but we were lucky enough to snag a couple as two people were leaving. If you'd like guaranteed seats, definitely make a reservation beforehand!

I have not been to such a fun, cool bar in many years. The mystique of the alley entrance and downstairs location just add to the cool factor. The obvious features are the shared drinks. The Bali Bali was delicious. Be prepared for some high alcohol content...but, that's why you're there, right? Don't depend on Three Dots for a meal. The pu pu platter is a nice variety of appetizers, but plated entrees are not an option.

This was pretty crowded at 11 pm on a wed night due to a local conference. The place is open until 2 pm and offers some Indiana Jones tiki vibes for the setting. Very nice cocktails like the mojito drizzle with the rum. It is pretty strong drink even as a drizzle. The place can get crowded so you may have to wait for 10 mins or so but we got lucky. Walking distance from the kimpton Palomar hotel and Hilton garden inn near there.

Great atmosphere. From secret entrance the skull wall as you walk in to all of decor. The drinks were fun, but very expensive. Food was good, small portions also very expensive for what you get. For the price of the drink you should get to keep the glass. Would go back to start or end the night with a cool cocktail.

We decided to try Three Dots and a Dash for a fun afternoon activity. We made reservations which is a good idea because the place is small. The decor is interesting to look at and the menu have a lot of options. This isn’t a place you are expected to stay long. We ordered Lapu Lapu to share and the presentation was cool but the drink was boring. Our second drink was more interesting from the traditional page and that made it worth the visit. We enjoyed the yucca and the Thai chicken, both delicious. The reason this place just is average is because if you are not male in your twenties, the waitress will pretty much ignore you unless you make it very obvious you are intending to order another drink. That is ridiculous.

I love coming here and every time I do there's a different drink to try. I've gotten small drinks for just myself and the big ones which are meant for sharing. Although I have never gotten food, what I've seen looks good. I will always keep coming back to Three Dots and a Dash for late night drinks!

There’s a reason this is rated so highly as Chicago’s premier tropical tiki bar. The craft cocktails are very tasty and served in iconic glasses. Took a little while for us to find the entrance, which is a secret hideaway in an alley east of Clark Street, north of W Hubbard. Only issue was that we would’ve ordered more drinks, but the waitress was too busy to come around as frequently as she should have. Parking was a pain, too, until we found the garage that is just south of the restaurant.

First, make a reservation. We didn't have one, and got lucky because we went early, around 8pm and they had room for us. All the tables had reserved signs on them. Second, our waitress was AMAZING! She was attentive, sweet, and on top of things. Our drinks were so cool, its definitely an experience! We also got the Asian wings as we were a little hungry, they were some of the best we had on our trip. You will love this place! Third, I'll try to keep this short and sweet. We were told we could buy the cup our drinks came in (trust me, they aren't normal cups, they are ceramic pieces of beauty). In the book they give you the vessels are listed with prices, all were $60, and there was a normal glass, 2 for $25. So we went to the gift shop where I found my large sea shell drink vessel, only to be told they didn't sell them, it was decoration. I insisted I had just drank out of it and it was listed in the book(with a picture to boot). The manager confirmed they did indeed sell them, they just didn't have any left in the store room and he'd run across the street and grab one. Upon paying they told me my total was $87, to which I said, they were listed in the book for $60. The manager stood and argued with me that this was a special one, its $80, and refused to look in the book. I finally got him to open the menu book, turned to the page, and sure enough, in the middle of the page was a blue shell vessel, just like mine with a price of $60. I knew I wasn't imagining! They gave it to me for $60 but did not apologize to me, just said that was a miscommunication with the people who printed the menu....however, still not my problem. The manager had an awful attitude and it soured the experience. I hope next time instead of arguing, you just get to the facts and an apology would have been nice. Everything IN the bar area was exceptional, the transaction at the gift shop part was unacceptable.

Recommended to us by locals, we found it very busy and opted to eat in the small lounger, called private dining area. Had the pu pu platter and shared it. Some very interesting cocktails were served around us, we at this point were on beer and wine. Would like too back and go in main bar, dining area but you definitely need a reservation.

Must go for the Fun Tiki drinks, but the food is also great. It's Expensive but really an interesting fun place to party. Little difficult to find - hint: Go around to the back of the address for an "alley" entry. Just look for the Tiki Torches...

Hawaii mets Chi town in this tucked away underground bar fully decked out in hawaiin tiki motif and the drinks are cools and fun all the specialty drinks come in fun glasses and tiki cups go check it out for something different in Chicago

A really cool little bar, a bit tricky to find. Make sure you call ahead and make a reservation we couldn't get in the first time we went and were told during busy time the book weeks-months in advance. We ended up getting in the next day for drink. I was very dark and a bit loud but the drinks were very interesting and soo pretty. All the staff were very nice as well! Definitely a must try for people who love trying new fun drinks.

A must stop bar in Chicago. Tiki drinks are outstanding great atmosphere. Fun place for a couple or a large group . Make a reservation if you want a table!

Great drinks, great atmosphere. A bit pricey but the drinks were strong. Heads up. No need to ask for doubles in your cocktail. They’re already pretty lethal. Ha ha ha. Would definitely go back. I recommend making reservations. Seating is limited.

Very cool tiki themed bar serving high quality drinks in the coolest looking hand made glasses. Very cool look, good music and vibe. Drinks super tasty. Was hard to find, located around the corner in an alley way around the official address.

You get more bees with honey - Maybe it was perfect timing but on am extremely busy night we walked in and hostess got us a table for 3 immediately - after a 5 minute wait in line outside. Excellent tiki bar, cool decor, really good drinks - but be sure to ask about your drink of choice, a friend ordered one that was way too strong for his liking. Very cool spot, very friendly service and awesome cocktails, highly recommend it! It would be wise to make reservations.

Had been hearing about three dots and a dash for years, and how cool of a place it was. Finally got a chance to over here this latest trip to Chicago, and we were not disappointed. This is now my new favorite bar on the planet!! The multi person drink creations are a sight to behold. But the atmosphere is the best part. Great ambience if you go at time where it's not insanely crowded. We got there at about 4:30 on a saturday afternoon. Perfect place to drop in and have a few cocktails.

The Three dots and a dash and Down periscope drinks were delicious. The vibe was amazing, good music, and the presentation of the drinks was top notch. 10 out of 10 for this place!!!!!

We just stopped by for some drinks before dinner. Entrance is in the alley. Stop when you find the tiki touches. It has a speakeasy feel to it. All of the drinks are amazing.

We stopped by after dinner at Frontera Grill and had a blast. My wife and I were the oldest in the place, but everyone was very night and the drinks were delicious. We got a table and peopled watched. We had to give the table up because someone had it reserved, but that was o.k.. Best tiki bar we have ever been too. Will come back again.

We just stopped for drinks after dinner and had a wonderful time. You enter via an alley with tiki torches. The drinks are amazing, delicious and come in fun glasses and with creative presentations...think flashing lights and dry ice!

I was really hoping for Tiki experience similar to the many times that I have been to the islands. Unfortunately, the Traders Vic Mai-Tai we ordered was a big disappointment. $15 price was twice what they go for in expensive Hawaii and yet the flavor was completely lacking. All the bartenders were friendly and did a great job on this very busy evening. Most of the other folks in the bar appeared to be having a nice evening. The decor was very well done and presented a nice atmosphere. What really spoiled it for me was the music that played in the background. How can a Tiki Bar play anything other than than some sort of tropical music. There are so many choices available but what ever they picked while not offensive, was certainly not TIKI. The bar was packed when we arrived with nowhere to sit and no one in line to get in. Still several tables were marked reserved but remained empty for our entire stay. We were not even allowed to stand in the open area next to them. While I will never return, you could still expect to have a enjoyable time as long as you don't mind over priced low flavor drinks.

As you enter Three Dots and Dash I had to Wiki the meaning behind it - used to symbolize victory in World War II. We felt like we actually in Tahiti Hut we all the cool tropical drinks and the PU PU Platter is a must - it has everything included. Love this place for family, friends and just fun, fun, fun! Great location in the River North close to hotels and offices. Love this place!!!

What a fun experience! It was a trick to find it -but once we did it was worth it! Polynesian vibe with a complete menu of drinks - rum focused. Each drink was even rated with a skull - to let you know how strong it was. Food was also tasty and overall an interesting night!

A speakeasy inside a speakeasy! The great Bamboo Room sits inside Three Dots and a Dash. Walk down the ally past the donut/cake shop. And ask for the Bamboo room. Probably had 12-14 seats so do book your reso! Excellent attentive service and incredibly made cocktails in a beautiful tiki hut style vibe! A must-do experience! The only thing is because you’re just behind a curtain we had a couple guys come over from three dots and randomly join the table behind us. You could see our bartender become annoyed with good reason as they stood there without reservations. He quickly called on management and had them removed!

Some girls and I came here for pre dinner drinks and snacks and were so glad we did. It was such a fun atmosphere, the bar had a nice crowd for 7pm on a Saturday evening. The Hawaiian, tiki bar theme was really cool! They had individual drinks and ones that could be shared with a group (of course we had to get one to share, lol). The wait staff was very friendly and the food and drinks were yummy! Definitely have to check this place out even if it’s just for a drink 😊

The hidden location makes it a bit tough to find, but adds to the ambiance. The drinks are strong, the atmosphere wonderful, and the bartenders are friendly.

Reservations a must in this climate. Sweet entrance and tiki vibe. Drinks were so wild and creative, but very expensive. Like $16-18..mostly probably just paying for the dry ice. But again super cool and worth it for a special occasion and everything I was looking for my chicago tiki bar.

My wife and I came here before dinner and we’re treated to a fantastic atmosphere, creative drinks and good service. It gets really crowded, so if you don’t want to be packed in by the bar, you’ll need reservations. Prices were good for all you get, but the decor is what really makes this place.

Great rum experience. Arrived early for our booking at The Bamboo Room so had initial drinks in the main bar of Three Dots & a Dash. A busy/noisy night with a crush at the bar, most of the tables/booths being reserved. Promptly served with some fantastic drinks through. Moved thereafter to the quieter Bamboo Room for a more select offering of rums & cocktails. Partook in a few and also the food. Pleasantly surprised by the food offerings in both the quality and portion size. Would definitely recommend a visit

A friend and I sought this place out as I'm a bit of a tiki affecionado - love the sledgehammer beverages and retro, low light vibe, and Three Dots and a Dash delivered. Once we found it, that is. The entrance is in an alley, bedecked in tiki torches. Enter through a door and descend way, way down into the belly of a repro-island paradise....just realize that the way out may be a tad fuzzy. We also ordered up a Pu Pu Platter, replete with flaming kettle and baby back ribs. Put us in a great frame of mind for that evening's Mott the Hoople show at the nearby Chicago Theater....

I have lived in the Chicago area for 2 years and never made it here until a visiting friend said we have to go. I'm sorry I haven't been here sooner. After a somewhat hidden entrance we made it downstairs into this gem. Dark, tiki style theme throughout. A catalog of drinks awaits and will appeal to everyone's tastes. Try to Pu Pu platter....absolutely delish! I'll be visiting again very soon.

Had a 4:00 reservation on a Saturday and the place was already packed! The entrance is in an alley and down the stairs. Our party of 6 had a booth against the wall. Perfect for people watching! We ordered the Lapu Lapu, Fat Bottom Mermaid, Idle Hands Do the Devil's Work, Painkiller & Aloha Felicia. The Lapu was fun... large drink arriving with lots of dry ice smoke. Favorites based on taste were the Fat Bottom Mermaid and the Idle Hands. Drinks were pricey. We also ordered luau chips with guacamole, yucca fries and thai chicken. All three were tasty. Service was very good - our server was attentive and very knowledgeable. A fun place to start the evening!

This is one of the coolest bars I’ve been to. It’s a Polynesian Speakeasy that is a must see!! Drinks are unique and the food was great!

Such a fun little place to get a drink! Unique and fun drinks. You can make reservations but we didn’t. We were still able to snag some bar stools after about 10 min.

What a treat! And the atmosphere! Always try to come here when in Chicago- unique, ecclectic drinks and the appetizers were beyond phenomenal. Very cool, chic atmosphere also.

Fantastic drinks chock-full of alcohol! We chose to have the 3 skull drinks (that relate to the intensity of the alcohol) assuming that they wouldn't make them that strong. They WERE that strong! They were phenomenal. The presentation was incredible and the drink transported me to being on a beach in Mexico. Our server was very attentive and the ambiance inside was incredible.

This was a fun bar with the entrance tucked away in an alley way. We had reservations, which worked out great. We were able to walk right in and be seated on a Friday night. The drinks were delicious! The drinks are a little pricey, but worth it.

We made a reservation for our group of 8 for 6pm on a Saturday, but forgot and thought it was at 6:30! Three Dots was very accommodating and was still able to seat us when we arrived (probably because it was early enough in the evening!) We had one pregnant gal in our party and our waitress was super helpful, recommending a few delicious tiki "mocktails" for her to choose from. When I secretly ordered the "Shotstopus" to celebrate our guest of honor, she immediately asked if I wanted her to have them make a non-alcoholic shot so we could all take part - so thoughtful! When she brought out the shots, she made sure to place to n/a shot tentacle in front of our pregsy friend so if wouldn't get mixed up. Great attention to detail, excellent service and always a fun atmosphere and delicious cocktails. (Caution: These tiki cocktails are strong!)

Arrive early or make a reservation because this little basement bar fills up in the evening. Nice drink selection, both the classics and new mixes. Great atmosphere.

Expertly crafted cocktails. They are a bit expensive but are strong/complex so it’s worth it. Friendly service and fun vibe. Best Crab Rangoon I have had should you opt for a bite too.

I was a little nervous walking here through the alley, door, down the stairs...but once we got in, wow!!! Great place for a group of friends to catch up. I am more of a scotch& mezcal drinker, they are all rum---which is great and beautiful if you love rum!

Lavish tiki themed drinks that pack a lot of punch. This is a great stop for quick drink to start your night off. The bar is a Hawaiian oasis located in an alley off N Clark Street. Be prepared to spend a little more on drinks ($15-20 per drink) as your are paying for the themed atmosphere and fancy drinks. While we were at Three Dot we observed a younger crowd primarily consisting of females.

We went to Three dots and a dash with the idea we would eat here as well. After being there, we decided to only get drinks since the food menu was sparse. The drinks were fantastic!

Excellent tiki bar. Really well decorated and good atmosphere. Drinks are good but beware they are quite strong. Good staff. Well hidden but worth a visit.

It was my birthday weekend and I made a split decision to travel to Chicago. I stayed downtown and was looking up great reviewed places and this spot automatically popped up with great reviews. So my bf and I decided to give it a try. For some reason we had to wait.. Now this isn't a problem because any great establishment will draw in crowds. While waiting my bf and I started to notice certain people will get in. Again, not a problem because they have connections/ know the bouncer.. Happens at a lot of popular establishments. After waiting in the cold for 20 mins we decide to walk away because, who wants to spend the beginning of their birthday hungry waiting in line? As soon as we stepped out of line and begin to walk down the alley, the people behind us who were white were able to go in. Coincidence maybe? But the situation and how the "bouncer" or whoever he was acted when we asked how long of a wait was ridiculous and after waiting 20 mins, when he saw us walking away.. he could've told us that it was almost time...

But in a good way! Entering in an alleyway with tiki Torches you first instinct is to think ‘this is a little cheesy’. But the Atmosphere was awesome! You don’t even feel Like you are in the city. Super cool drink glasses. The drinks are interesting and pricy but heavy on the booze, so worth it. We only got the chip appetizer but was a good snack. We didn’t eat but all the tables were of packed of people who were. Definitely Considering adding this stop while you are in downtown Chicago!

Three dots and a dash is a great bar - you must visit it, if you are in Chicago. The bar serves really good cocktail, but they are expensive - but they are worth the money. You can also buy some food at the bar. The food is cheap, and it was tasty. The bar is really busy, so remember to make a reservation. It can be a bit difficult to find the bar.

My wife and I had been looking forward to going to Three Dots and a Dash and were not disappointed! We made sure that we went to their downstairs bar and were blown away by the decor, theming and overall presentation of our drinks! Each drink is served in a unique themed drinking vessel. It was fun to look around and see what other people had ordered. Also, if you order one of the "group" drinks that they offer, those come in the unique vessels as well. If you are a fan of your vessel, you are able to buy it in their gift shop! Highly recommend if you are visiting Chicago!

This place knows how to do it! Nicely decorated. Awesome drinks. Bar service was very attentive. Only problem— its so popular, it’s PACKED and we couldn’t get a reservation for a table, much less dinner

Were warned ahead of time about entrance being in the alley. No big deal if you like the stench of garbage. Had to dodge the smelly puddles to get in! VERY dark entrance, maybe some low lighting to see where you’re going. Party of 7 and most tried a concoction of some sort. Me being the only one who doesn’t like mixed drinks asked what kind of beer they had. She said Hawaiian beer and named a few. It was okay but very strong. Didn’t order food as we had reservations elsewhere. All in all, try the place. You just might like it!

Amazing atmosphere, food and drink. Everything on the Pu Pu Platter was delicious. Great mai tai and Aloha Felicia. I will absolutely be back every time I visit Chicago!

Would never have found this on my own; a coworker took me there and it was a blast. Great drinks (including a holiday-themed tiki menu) and super friendly fast service.

Went to 3 Dots & a Dash on a recent family trip to Chicago. We had reservations for our group of 9. We ordered the Conch Out drink. What a drink. When ordering our server asked if anyone had any allergies. I said I couldn’t drink pineapple juice. He made a drink similar to the Conch Out drink without pineapple juice. Very accommodating. We had a lot of fun with our drinks and it was a great experience. And the drinks were yummy!

Wonderful hideaway tiki bar and craft cocktail lounge. The presentation alone will blow the mind with drinks served in creative Polynesian mugs with over the top garnishes. Flowered leis and pirate hats are everywhere. The decor reminds you of Trader Vics from days gone by...its a cocktail fantasy heme park for adults. The service is extraordinary...almost too good for a place like this, but the staff keeps the fun flowing! Two drinks and I was on the floor! Lots of fun!

While visiting Chicago we were told by a cousin that this tiki bar was a 'must-do' and so, we ventured out one night after quite the let down of a comedy night. Our spirits really turned up after finding this place! We almost couldn't find it. You really have to follow Google Maps and then when you are feeling like you will never find it, look for an alley and go down it. It has the smallest of signs real high up, and basically a bouncer outside that let's you in. Upon walking in and going down the steps, you are immediately transported to a tropical jungle. The coolest place you will ever go into! Our only complaint about the whole experience was the hostess who kept telling people to go into the bar area and 'have a seat at the bar'. We went in and there were no seats at the bar or anywhere. When we came back out to tell her, she actually found us a table at the front room that was very quiet and private. Then we heard her telling everyone who came in after us to go and find a seat at the bar again....it was strange. But we settled in and our bartender was very professional and made the most amazing drink for us! Each cocktail on their menu is truly different than any drink you will find elsewhere. We were amazed! Be prepared to spend a lot at this place. The drinks are not cheap, however we didnt mind because it was like no other experience we will ever have. Plus we figured the drink was served in a Pineapple and was 'for 2' so we shared! It was called "Missionaries Downfall" and was sweet and delicious! We sat sipping it and people watching. There was a guy who came in and was drunk and loud. He was rude and obnoxious and helped himself to a seat at the bar, being very disruptive to everyone else enjoying their night. We was very politely asked to leave and escorted out. We felt that the establishment handled the situation very well and they even came over to apologize to the guests nearby for the disruption afterwards. It made us like the place even more being that we are the kind of people to go out and have conversation together while we eat or drink. We dont like very loud places and tend not to go to 'bars' for this reason. If you are looking for a nice private night and to enjoy some unique cocktails while in an interesting environment then this place is for you. Just dont come to "get hammered"...its really hot that type of bar. We are so happy to have found this place and been able to have such a cool experience while in Chicago!

This place was really cool. Kind of hidden in a back alley and then you need to walk down a flight of stairs. Really interesting drinks in unique cups. Came here twice, once there was a long line so make a reservation.

The atmosphere, including the music, is a throw back to another time when Tiki was the thing. The drinks are amazing and so is the rum selection. The tiki mugs are so much fun. The food was diverse and pretty tasty. My only complaint was the price tag. It was easy to drop a couple hundred for several drinks and snacks for us. If you love tiki, this is a must do. A classic. Oh, and get a reservation, it gets packed, quick.

The entrance is behind 435 N Clark St (you need to enter from the alley) Make a reservation, otherwise, you likely won't have a table/chairs. The place is super cool and has very interesting drinks. All drinks are quite potent. My wife loved the place (and she is not a drinker/party type) They only have appetizers to eat. They are really good, but won't make a real meal. You can ask for the secret hamburger and maybe they will make it for you (have not had it yet, but definitely going back for it) Each drink will costs about $15, so pace yourself or just make it a 2 drink max. 4 of us spent $440 with no food, so you have been warned. but it was totally worth it!

This is one of the coolest bars I’ve been to! You won’t be sorry, even though the alley might creep you out a bit. Decked out tiki bar with tiki inspired drinks- including large format drinks. Enjoy!

I have been to Three Dots and a Dash several times and every time it blows me away! I love love love all the rum options they have and the glasses they serve the drinks in are SO fun! You can buy them too! Incredible atmosphere! This place is a MUST visit while you're in Chicago!

Three Dots is the definition of the place that was perfect, but got too big for its breeches and corporate over lords taking it over. As soon as lettuce entertain you really showed their ‘interest’, prices went up, quality took a dive, and mug prices became outrageous. From $25 to $60+? Get real guys... drinks and food are still solid but not quite the same. It’s missing the Paul McGee magic big time. It’s worth the visit, but don’t expect that perfection it once had.

The drinks remind you of Trader Vics (as do the apps), but they've taken it to a modern level, with drinks spewing dry ice, new flavors and concepts, appealing to a young crowd. You enjoy the challenge of finding the place (on an alley, not the street listed, so just go around the corner), walking down a dark staircase and then finding yourself in this cool tiki bar. Don't come for dinner - the food isn't ample - but it's a fun place to drink and snack. Groups have fun with special drinks.

Wow! This was a special anniversary dinner with my husband. I wanted to surprise him by using tiki mugs I found on ebay from the restaurant of our first date, literally 36 years to the day ago. That restaurant was long gone so I reached out to Three Dots and a Dash and the General Manager, Kurt Greteman and his attending Manager, Romero and our beautiful waitstaff person made it as my husband said "one for the books". When the waitress presented the Amazing Three Dots and A Dash cocktail (based on the 1945 version from Don the Beachcomber's) she casually mentioned "these glasses will probably look a bit familiar". She even faced them during the presentation of the drinks so the name showed. Hubby wasn't sure what was going on till I lifted the glass into the candlelight to reveal the old restaurant's name. His eyes welled with tears of love. Kurt even went so far as to procure a gorgeous mini chocolate cake flecked with real gold and some coffee from their affiliate restaurant and some coffee and cream. After the events of the past couple of years, a more extensive celebration was out of the question for us, so imagine our absolutely joy to find the staff so supportive in the name of love, to put us on top of the world. It is our new special place, thanks to the staff <3

My husband is the tiki fanatic, but I certainly appreciate a well executed tiki bar with the appropriate decor, informed & proficient staff, diverse cocktail menu offering classic choices and creative twists, and a first rate lineup of pu-pu options. Three Dots hits the mark on all these aspects. Over the course of 2 nights, I tried four cocktails: Never Say Die, Caribbean Punch, Aloha Felecia #3, and Too Many Chiefs. My favorites were Caribbean Punch and Aloha Felecia #3. We also ordered the Pu-Pu Platter which had an excellent variety - menu says serves 3-4 but 2 hungry people can easily handle it. If you’re into tiki, you must put Three Dots on your to-do list.

I have been going to this bar since 2013. Dont let the alleyway entry scar you off. Every time I am in Chicago I go to this bar. Took my husband for the first time and he LOVED it. Please ADVISE..the drinks are strong. Great atmosphere. Amazing Staff. Drinks will knock your socks off. Variety of Rum, Vodka, Tequila, whiskey tiki style drinks.

Be prepared to queue when you get here. It’s a crowded place and a popular going out spot for locals and tourists. Really cool inside and amazing drinks! Good music, and a great night out if you’re lucky enough to her a table. Pricey!

I went to this bar with friends. The ladies at the reception were really nice and they managed to accommodate us. The drinks were really nice and unique. The atmosphere was also unique and cozy. Despite of being in a basement, it was really aerated and we didn’t feel suffocated. The food was not bad, but nothing great either. Our waitress was a bit impatient and not very kind. One of my friends mentioned that she didn’t like her drink and she just ignored her. I would recommend it to go for drinks after dinner.

Absolutely LOVED this place!! The decor and atmosphere is excellent!! The drinks are very fresh, good and strong plus the cups they come in are amazing. The service was excellent even when they got busy and the music was good without being too loud. We loved it so much we came back a second time on our 4 day trip. Make reservations ahead of time because they do get busy!! It’s located in an alleyway that the drivers had trouble locating but its closest to Firecakes. The crab rangoons were the only thing we weren’t overly impressed with (small portion for the price) but we loved the different sauces that it came with. *the drinks with skulls next to them indicate strong drinks**

Neat entrance. Speakeasy vibe. Overpriced drinks. Food is good. Service is slow. These reviews are inflated. The ranking isn’t justified.
