Very good dinner

By jaune_1000 |

The customizable breakfast is excellent and very generous, American style. The service is fast and the staff friendly. The spuds especially were excellent.

Best Breakfast Spot in Atlanta To Me

By bey776 |

First off, the big cups of coffee gives me life!!! The breakfast is delicious....I mean it was fast and friendly service for it to me crowded on a Saturday morning

Very good brunch

By Plzcallmetee |

Be prepared to wait because its not a very big place but the food is well worth it. Generous portions and a very friendly staff. Cash only but there is an ATM on site

Excellent breakfast

By Jeffery G |

Stopped here for breakfast after landing in Atlanta. I liked that we were able to put our name on their list prior to arriving, and when we walked in we were the next name called to be seated. They had a good menu and it didn't take long for our food to arrive. Everything we had was very good, especially the cheese grits. The staff was very friendly and seem to handle the crowding very well. Definitely worth another visit.

Perfect breakfast

By Anna C |

Was visiting Martin Luther King visitor centre nearby. Freshly cooked to order, good size portions and excellent service . Delicious omelettes . Cash only

Good eats, great service and regular southern foods !

By NoankPhotog |

Nothing very fancy, and the best kept secret of most locals--as the lines can be a bit much around breakfast time, and the parking short in supply... You won't regret finding this gem of the City---close, comfortable and great food-as well as excellent portion sizes ;)

Fantastic

By Luca D |

Food is really fantastic!!! Price is very reasonable and the courtesy of the staff high. A surprise to be necessarily tried again and again and again!

Great shrimp & grits

By Sue B |

We stopped here for lunch after the Civil Rights tour and were delighted at both the food and service.

Visit to the A

By ricky706971 |

We were back in the A and wanted an amazing breakfast and ate at TUD. This place is amazing, the wife had French toast & I had an omelet. Both were amazing and they have the best coffee !! You won’t leave hungry or disappointed.

Good homestyle breakfast

By Live_Love_Life_Trips |

Love their breakfast. Homestyle favorites made fresh to order. Always busy but not ridiculous wait times.

Good eats in the heart of Atlanta!

By regnmorgengry |

We decided to spend the day at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, and when lunch time rolled around, we weren't sure where to go, as it was our first time in the area. Many nearby restaurants were closed on an early Monday afternoon, but this place was open and just minutes from the MLK park, so we decided to give it a try. It was a great experience all around! The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, and even reasonably fast considering how crowded the place was. The build-your-own-omelette really hit the spot! My two sons devoured their strawberry French toast and chocolate chip pancakes, and my daughter, who has an egg allergy was even able to find a yummy bowl of house-made cereal. My husband enjoyed the surf and turf with generous portions of catfish and barbecue chicken. Prices are very reasonable, the food is delicious, and the service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!

Damn! Damn! Damn!

By william h |

It all started with our server, Mike. I’ve never seen a more efficient, good-natured restaurant employee...and it was genuine, not fake. From there, the food was plentiful and enjoyable....and affordable for Atlanta standards. The applewood smoked bacon was THICK, the grits were like grandmas, the double dipped French toast breakfast was hot, delicious, and could have served 3 people. Everyone was warm and welcoming. It’s been my favorite experience in my 3 days in Atlanta. Definitely will go back for some of that warm southern hospitality.

Mother's Day Treat

By eppyteach9 |

My daughter just had moved down off of Edgewood and I took my mom and we met her at her new apartment and walked to Thumbs Up for lunch. They were efficient and quick and the food was great! Love the location in Roswell and knew this one would be just as good and it was! Thanks again for another great meal!

Breakfasts and brunches of champions

By Eduardo P |

Great American traditions, served deliciously by friendly staff. It's a busy place, and it can get noisy, but the food is great, the attitude is better, and it's fun, and very trendy.

Amazing Breakfast Food!!

By 59mcw |

Stopped in here today for a late lunch and had the best "Skillet Heap" that I've ever tasted. Loads of wonderful spuds topped by your choice of eggs fixed how you want them and a list of other ingredients, I chose bacon and diced ham. Comes with your choice of toast (many varieties to choose from) or a biscuit. Other menu items include Chicken & Waffles, and Shrimp Grits. Amazing service, friendly atmosphere, and delicious food. Bring your CASH, no credit cards accepted.

Amazing Food & Service.

By Joey W |

Went there 1st time 10 years ago & refuse to go to Atlanta without making a breakfast visit. I have read 3 pages of reviews & out of Disbelief, No One has mentioned how Amazing their Smoked Wings are. These are by far the best I've ever had & have came close to copying them at home on my Vertical Sportsman Pit Boss Smoker. I look to next weekend when we come for the Air Show @ Peachtree City. I will order a few with breakfast & plan to take some home. Planning our Hotel convenient to this establishment. Can't wait! ps: Please come to Greenville SC.

Great experience

By Ryan H |

Very good. Food was fresh, highly recommend the waffles with wings and eggs. Coffee was superb as well

Place was AMAZING!

By JC W |

Be prepared to wait if your later in the morning getting here. They serve breakfast all day and at noon on a Saturday we had a 30ish minute wait but that said we would have happily waited twice that! Food was phenomenal environment was classic hole in the wall diner (in a good way) was just a great experience and the price was amazing! 37 bucks and 3 stuffed folks. Add a $6 tip and this was the best $43 we spent on this trip! !

This Place Was Amazing!!

By Cee_Wanderlust |

We visited this place on Mother's Day around 9am, and as expected the place was crowded and had a wait list. Our party of 6 was seated in under 30 minutes. Our waitress was OUTSTANDING! She kept the refills flowing without being asked, she was patient and pleasant while we all combed through the menu. We were worries about the wait time for the food since we had a reservation for MLK tour in an hour and the place was so crowded. Our waitress assures us that the food would only take 15-30 minutes. That was refreshing as we had about an hour before the reservation. Our food came out in about 30 minutes and I was IMPRESSED!! Everything was so Good! Ingredients were fresh, presentation was nice, and the price was very reasonable. Whenever I am in Atlanta, I will be sure to visit this place.

Affordable, Tasty, Fast, and Friendly

By David M |

Nothing glamorous, but a nice, unpretentious place to be. Comfort food in a comfortable diner with friendly folks cooking the food and bringing it. Prices were reasonable and everyone had more than enough food. Food was brought quickly, a minor error was solved immediately-- we arrived hungry and left with smiles. Add its great location to that: just a short walk (3 blocks?) from MLK Visitor Center and some of the associated sites, and you've got a winner. Warning: no credit cards accepted, just plain, old-fashioned cash. It's worth it!

Good Food, Quick Service

By mnichole |

The wait was about 25min, but it went quick this location is small. The service pretty good. The food was good. A lot of food, the price was nice. Total of 3 pancake, potatoes, 2 order of bacon, coffee and sweet tea was about $23. We went home with left overs. Give them a try. They do have several location, if one is too busy go to another. We will go back.

Prepare For A Wait but It's Worth It...And They Only Accept Cash

By antoinel67 |

It's a breakfast and lunch place that has great food and efficient service. I ordered Pancakes and veggie sausage and was not disappointed. The coffee was hot and brewed well. Thumbs Up does not take reservations and I suggest that you be prepared to wait in line for service. This is particularly true on the weekends. I think you will find, however, that it is worth the wait.

Lovely breakfast

By James H |

Met some friends here and had a lovely breakfast. Friendly atmosphere. Staff helpful. Clean as well.

Yassss Southern Comfort!

By Kei B |

Ok, immediately entering the restaurant you are greeted with warm friendly smiles. Customer Service is everything! I ordered the Fish n Grits..it was absolutely amazing and the homemade jam was Ohh my to my taste buds. I left excitingly fulfilled but not overly stuffed, even though I cleaned my plate. A must visit travelers. I will return.

Thumb up takeout

By Kanda G |

Grabbed takeout via doordash, the food was freshly cooked and hot. We didn't have to wait, pulled up, grabbed our food, and left!

No attention to special instructions or detail

By Jada M |

Ordered for delivery. No pancakes in the pancake breakfast. Requested lots of butter for the waffle meal got zero asked for cream and Splenda for coffee got only black. Needless I threw it in the trash I don’t drink black coffee or eat dry waffles my kids ate what came of their meal except they really wanted pancakes and waffles

Breakfast at its finest

By Corycnote32 |

A group of friends and myself took a friends recommendation and found this spot. There was about a 10-minute wait before we were seated, but the minute we were seated and ordered our food it was all worth the wait. The gentleman that took our orders was very helpful in suggesting and explaining anything that we had questions about. The portions were more than enough for a single serving, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any and everyone that i know is going to be in Atlanta. It was a very good choice and a good way to start the day.

Fantastic breakfast

By cookie_girl2014 |

Just had a great breakfast here today. Delicious blueberry pancakes, eggs, multigrain biscuits and fresh peach jam. Coffee super good too. For sure worth the wait, but cash only at this place. Highly recommend!

Great tasting breakfast!

By 06BB |

Visiting great friends in Atlanta and this restaurant was recommended for us by our friends. I'm glad it was. It's small and not flashy at all, but the breakfast was absolutely great! We sat at the counter on little spinning stools with no back. Ordered coffee and looked at the menu. Our waitress was great! Very welcoming and was doing anything she could to make sure our dining experience was good. There are no uniform coffee mugs which adds to the uniqueness of this diner. I have included a pic of the mugs we got. The coffee in fact was very good. I had cheesy scrambled eggs, cheesy grits and sausage patties. Everything was delicious. The eggs, hot and fresh, the grits very good flavor and the sausage hit the spot. My friend got a skillet.....I think it was sausage, eggs, peppers, and potatoes. It cam with a side of bread. he said everything tasted great as well. Like I said this place isn't flashy, but it's clean, the staff is nice and the food is great. If you're looking for a good breakfast in Atlanta come here.

Awesome food!

By Katg2011 |

This place lived up to its reviews...left stuffed & with leftovers. Staff was friendly & the place was hopping, despite it being a weekday morning.

Don't leave Atlanta without the proper breakfast!

By Kim B |

I found Thumbs Up Diner after searching for "the best b'fast in Atlanta". As soon as we entered, and smelled the food, we realized we were in the right place. This is a real diner. Old school. Diner bar and random coffee mugs with a big "Hello" when we entered. Food was absolutely delicious! and the whole wheat biscuit with the fresh peach preserves, yummy!!! Take an appetite and take good, old fashioned, real money. Only cash accepted, no cards.

Came Hungry ~ Left Stuffed with Doggy Bag

By Stephanie S |

"Multi-grain biscuits with homemade peach jam!" My foodie Atlanta friend was telling me about Thumbs Up as we discussed our plans for my visit to the city. We parked next to their garden of tomatoes and herbs. How fresh is that? I had the Farmer's Omelette. Exceptional and huge. Could easily have fed two people. The biscuit was as good as I had been promised. Blueberry and strawberry jams - all homemade- were offered but when I asked peach our server made it happen. My friend had the skillet meal and reported it delicious. Again, enough food for two. With coffee, our bill was about $20. CASH ONLY. Bring enough for a decent tip as the service was great.

Gem found when passing through Atlanta at lunchtime

By Anna E |

3 single friends on our way to a retreat in the mountain looking for lunch as an easy stop on our way through Atlanta. The great ratings brought us in, I’ll post pics. It’s a super cute diner, we got our food quick! I got the special: Oakland city heap, smoked wings, Belgium waffle, Macon burger with onion rings. Delicious and cheap!

Just Off The Train!

By Ahmanish |

First time visiting Thumbs Up after an all night train ride from Philly! Thumbs Up was recommended by fellow travelers, and it was a total hit! Had the fried pork chops with a side of sausage gravy. We will be back soon! Excellent wait staff, who took care of our two tables! I give them a Thumbs Up!

Phenomenal! Cash Only!

By Jamie K |

This place is just so outstanding! The food is plentiful, delicious, savory or light (whichever you prefer!), healthy or not! You can choose veggies, eggs, fried fish, wings, waffles, pancakes, oh my! The service is awesome. The servers are so personable. They are attentive and work to make you happy. Did I mention the food is delicious?! It is! Get the strawberry french toast, the fried fish, any skillet you want, the wings, the waffles and pancakes, the a la cartes! Now ... expect a wait. The place is popular! Parking is limited. However, many come on Sundays and just park in the bank lot across the very narrow street. There is a counter space and booths. They will let you sit for a while but kindly ask you to consider waiting guests, if you linger too long after eating. A couple cons: The coffee creamer is limited. (Get the hot chocolate instead!) They take CASH ONLY! However, there is an ATM inside and a Bank of America across the street.

Perfectly named

By hdtrvlr |

Yep, I definitely give this restaurant a thumbs up. We arrived early since we figured this was a popular restaurant and it paid off. We were seated right away and given an appropriate amount of time to look over the menu. The meals were made to order and were very tasty. We had to travel a tiny bit out of our way to go here, but it was worth it. I do recommend getting here early though as it started to get busy shortly after our arrival.

Fit the Bill

By SusanVM |

We wanted to find a place to have breakfast while we waited for our tour of MLK birth home and the ranger recommended Two Thumbs Up. We walked there from the park, which was a good walk of maybe three blocks. We told the waitress that we did not have a lot of time and she assured us we would be out in time for our tour....which we were. The place was packed on a Sunday morning but our food came quickly....and was very good. Would loved to have time to linger or try some of the other offerings.

Great food and great hospitality!

By Terri B |

Our family selected Thumbs Up for our first meal in Atlanta. Parking was a little challenging in the area, but the rest of the experience was so positive that it overshadows that one detail. We arrived around 1:00, so about an hour before closing on a Tuesday, and we were seated immediately. There are so many items on the menu that we had a difficult time deciding what to eat, but everyone decided on breakfast items. They did not disappoint! Everyone was very happy with their menu items, and all of our items were delicious. Now, just as good as the food - the hospitality! Unfortunately, I didn’t get the name of our server; otherwise I’d give her a shoutout by name! Affable and accurate, she is the exact type of person you would want serving you in a restaurant. We all appreciated how friendly she was. As we were heading out, we asked if she had any recommendations for peach cobbler, but she didn’t have any that she knew of. Upon leaving, we headed back to our car, we heard someone calling for us. We figured someone left sunglasses at the table, but no! Our server followed us outside to let us know that she asked her co-workers inside for their peach cobbler recommendations. They recommended The Peach Cobbler Factory. That is some amazing customer service, and thank you for making our first meal a great one!

Still The Best

By toyman111 |

It's been about 21/2 years since my last review of Thumbs Up, and it is still one of the best in Atlanta. Went for lunch and while the place was crowded, my food arrived in a reasonable time. I had a half pound hamburger with "spud" potatoes. The burger was fresh tasing, and the spuds are grilled potatoes with peppers and onions. For $7.99, this is one of the best burgers in Atlanta. You need to go there and see what Thumbs Up is all about.

Its always packed, but the food is great.

By MsTamu |

The food is great. I would definitely recommend the shrimp and grits. Make sure you take cash though as they do not accept credit cards.

Sunday Brunch

By Christina O |

The food was really good and they were quick. You do have to bring cash but if you dont they have an ATM.

Great Breakfast Food

By Michael S |

We decided we wanted breakfast before going to the Zoo Atlanta, so we searched Trip Advisor for Breakfast and this was the #2 place and close to our friends’ home where we are staying, so we stopped in. Because of the review of another member, we decided to each try the scrambled cream cheese eggs with cinnamon raisin bagel and we split a side of bacon and a side of cheese grits. Usually we get skimpy thin bacon at diners in PA where we live so we were pleasantly surprised by the large thick cut bacon we received, and the three slices was plenty to share. The eggs were amazing as expected from the other review we read. I would never have thought of combining cream cheese into scrambled eggs, but I have a new favorite now. It was our first time trying grits, and they were ok, but for my taste they need some seasoning because they were a little bland. That is just me though, and maybe that is the standard way they are cooked. I would imagine adding some salt would help tremendously as I love salt, but I refrained this time and tried some maple syrup instead. That was pretty good. If you never ate grits before, it’s the thickness of oatmeal, but the texture and taste reminded me of Cream of Wheat or Cream of Farina. The bagels were huge and I couldn’t even finish the half that I spread the preserves on. I asked the waiter what flavor it was and he said today was blueberry. I think they have a different flavor each day and it looks like it might be freshly prepared. Everything was great and the waiter was very friendly, and attentive, despite the place being very busy. We had to get on a list but we waited maybe 5 minutes. I would come back in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone.

Special night with special friends

By tootallsd |

Recently relocated to Palm Springs from Atlanta. Grew up in San Diego and reconnecting with my circle of friends. Two close friends were in town recently. They tend to be very picky and have a tendency to repeat restaurants to build a reputation -- they like special attention and care. So I had to suggest a spot and chose The Tropicale. The evening could not have gone better. We started with Vietnamese Spring Rolls -- super delicious. No improvements to ask for. For my main, I had a crab and prawn Cobb salad. The salad was of epic proportions. The seafood generous and deliciously prepared. The salad was lightly dressed but more than enough to provide significant flavor. Two of the party had the Vietnamese seared pork chop. It got excellent reviews from all diners (we shared bites). The fourth member of our party had friend chicken. It got high marks but as recent refugees from Atlanta -- the bar is set high and this did not meet the level of say South City Kitchen. But still fully satisfying. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. I love the environment -- I truly feel at home.

Great Breakfast

By DeshawnP |

Stopped by here on the way to Krog St to see art work. There was a wait but it was Sunday afternoon. Well worth the time. Staff was very friendly all the way around! You have to try the potatoes...OMG. The french toast are huge. All the portion sizes are large. They only take cash.

Good breakfast...nice place, no wait, cash only

By ahmonroe5 |

I had an omelet that was very good. My co-worker had a southwest breakfast dish. The food was good, we arrived at 7:30 and the noise level was quiet/good for a discussion. The only drawback was that it only accepts cash (ATM is available). Otherwise, good place to meet.

Mmm hmmm good

By fruitsofthespirit |

I decided to check this spot out today after hearing nothing but good reviews about it. Definitely delicious! I had the shrimp scrambler with wheat toast and spuds. The scrambler was fluffy and full of fresh medium size shrimp. The spuds were crispy and sliced with onions and peppers. I will definitely be back

Excellent meal

By Allnatural99 |

Parking is free as long as you eat in. There is nothing fancy about this place but the food is excellent. IT IS CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM in the back of the restaurant. When you come in, you sign yourself in.

Outstanding!

By mikey3cc |

Took my grandkids out to breakfast. We ordered the steak & fried potatoes, pork chops & eggs, and fried catfish & grits. EVERYTHING was great, and my grands made me promise to return there tomorrow.

The food is excellent

By Cheda M |

The food is really wonderful here. Got a hipster vibe to the menu, but they can't suppress that good old southern charm underneath. It's southern comfort food with a modern slant. Food is served quicker than you would expect and the service and restaurant are impeccable.

What a delicious surprise!!

By lscwilliams |

Shocked!!! Met our nephew for Sunday lunch. The men had smash burgers and raved about them. I had the fried chicken tenders on a whole grain biscuit with chicken sausage gravy. There are no words!! Amazing food. Wonderful service. Super friendly staff. Would most certainly stop again.

Outstanding breakfast

By Jon H |

Enjoyed a magnificent breakfast of eggs, biscuits and the works: tasty, well prepared, fresh, and huge. Classic diner, which looks like a diner did years ago, and spotlessly clean. Friendly and efficient service.

Small and bust

By DivaLusy |

We were visiting for the first time. There was a 30 minute wait but it moved along quickly. This place is cash only, I was prepared from reading the other reviews. This is a very busy place! It is small and resembles a diner with both counter service and table service. The waitress was okay. We were charged for an extra drink but she removed it once we brought it to her attention. Food....I had the fish&grits which was tasty and had a nice size piece of fish. Hubby had the shrimp and grits which he enjoyed. The shrimp were really tasty. Kids had chicken fingers and fries(fries are shoestring and the chicken tastes like they batter it in Pepsi) kids ate it but for the first time ever they weren’t interested in taking their leftovers, burger and fries(basic), pancake and bacon(bacon was salty). Overall we left full but I won’t be breaking my neck to come back when visiting.

Great food, great prices. Cash only

By J&B Adventures |

Delicious home cooked food. Omelets, French Toast, skillet breakfasts, and lots of choices all day. Homemade and delicious. Great customer service! The only downside to this gem is the parking and area (bad neighborhood). Not enough parking for this busy restaurant and business area. Don't park in the Wells Fargo lot or you risk getting towed. This us a must if in the area. 😊

HUGE food - good deal

By grudolph7 |

Staff runs tight ship, but good service for a big group we went with. HUGE portions and one of the best omelettes I've ever had - loved the housemade biscuits as well. Definitely happy to have followed an online review and check it out!

Chicken and Waffles

By fhv_58 |

Awesome breakfast spot! The servers were very kind, the food was incredible and it came out fast and in huge portion sizes. I ordered the chicken wings and waffles with a side of scrambled eggs. My friend ordered a breakfast sandwich in a biscuit. That was also delicious. I highly recommend trying this place out for breakfast or brunch!

Great Brunch!

By lara749 |

Popular place - had to wait about 10 mins for a table but it was well worth it. An interesting range of tea and just about every possible type of eggs / omelettes imaginable. Veggie sausages on the menu - a rare occurrence! A great brunch.

Best Southern Breakfast ever....

By Lifeasamaven |

We arrived in Atlanta, after not sleeping all night. Checked into our Airbnb and then went to Thumbs Up Diner, which was about a mile from where we were staying. As a food blogger I am always bookmarking things we want to check out when we are in a new location. I am glad I did because Thumbs up was the best breakfast I ate while down in Atlanta. The vibe of the place, the service, the FOOD. Everything was on point. I had the southern breakfast which included, catfish, grits, cheesy eggs and a biscuit. Others had french toast, shrimp skillet, italian omelette etc. BTW the french toast melted in your mouth, our friend literally had everyone of us try it. So, so good. Cannot wait to go back next time we go to Atlanta.

Excellent Experience!

By Alexandria Sankey |

The food and service were absolutely amazing! I ordered the spud bowl and it was delicious. The food was piping hot when it came out, and everything was cooked fresh. Not only this, but the staff was very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was also very welcoming. Thumbs Up has become the new breakfast go to for my family and I when we take a trip to Atlanta- we will definitely be back!

Great food!

By Amy E |

As always, when traveling, I like to eat at places local to the area. Thumbs Up Diner was one of those places. We had a large party of 13 and was willing to break up into groups (very cozy place not a lot of seating, I think the max is 65). But they made sure we were all seated together. The staff was great and everyone and I mean everyone was super friendly! When you walk in there is a bar area that will sit approximately 9 which is great for those singles or parties of two to quickly sit. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food for your money and not just a lot of food but good food to boot! The fries were really good, the cheeseburgers were awesome and the chicken and waffles were dang good as well. Not sure if they don't always serve soda but the only options were water and tea and possibly juice. Really enjoyed eating here!

An Atlanta Jewel!

By Timothy H |

For delicious food, big portions, and great service, Thumbs Up can't be beat! The only downside is the wait if you go on weekends at busy times.

Good comfort food.

By Ann |

Great, service and pretty good food. Not a bad price for what you get. Add the chicken and waffles and potatoes and eggs and bacon.

Good Southern Breakfast

By Creekstone4505 |

Breakfast was yummy. I had scrambled eggs with cream cheese - new to me - and it was very good. Coffee was hot and steamy and service was friendly and quick. I saw lots of good looking plates being delivered to other tables. Will have to try something different next time.

Breakfast

By Sharon G |

Best breakfast ever! Place was packed with locals, so you know it's good! Amazing pancakes and the eggs were so fluffy!

Best Breakfast Food

By Bowtie Derrick |

One of our friends turned us onto this place. Its cash only, but they have an ATM on premises. They don’t take reservations so it’s first come first served which is nice. The service was fantastic, it’s like she read our minds on when we wanted things and made great suggestions. The pecan pancakes are to die for, best cheese grits I’ve ever had and they have cream cheese scrambled eggs which are out of this world! Also the chicken and waffles were amazing!

Hit the spot

By brittneytabron |

Had a delicious brunch here after leaving a previous restaurant with too long a wait. Came here around noon and probably waited no more than 30 mins between arriving at the restaurant and receiving our food. Service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious. Really enjoyed their grits as well as their homemade biscuits and peach jam.

Delicious breakfast on our way out of town

By aebmccullick |

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Thumb's Up Diner and will definitely be back. The staff was excellent, and Yolanda called us by name throughout our meal. My husband loved the Southwestern Eggs platter, and the portion was huge - he couldn't finish it all! I ordered scrambled eggs, chicken sausage (yum!) and a pancake - and enjoyed it all. As we were leaving, there was a line waiting for seats - a sure sign of a great breakfast spot! We highly recommend stopping by for breakfast.

Great place, great breakfast, only takes cash!

By Sarah Michelle Miller |

We just really enjoyed our time here. We walked from our hotel and were very hungry when we showed up. You sign yourself in at the front and then they call you when they get to you. We probably waited 10 minutes, no big deal. One thing to note is that they only accept cash. They do have an ATM there but still that could cause issues with people that only have credit cards on them (that's what happened to me as I didn't bring my whole purse since we walked there). The food was great. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The banana pecan pancakes are very good and I would highly recommend the Salmon omelette with cream cheese. It was all delicious. Great local spot for breakfast.

Amazing

By Nia L |

We been here last week and it was pretty good. The waiter was nice, food came pretty fast and it was delicious. French Toast was huge! That was our first visit and we will come back!!

By roncalilove11 |

The food was fresh and very good . We ate there three days out of five. It's always crowded but worth the wait. 30 40 minutes tops. We did a to go order and got mostly over cooked food it was still good but not as fresh. It's a Must if you visit Atlanta. It's a breaskfast food place . They close at 4

Grear breakfast

Best fried shrimp/catfish and grits ever. The service was good and the food came out fast. What a beautiful start to a Saturday morning. A must do place to eat..

A regular stop when in ATL

By MrsP2 |

Visited the Edgewood Ave location during this visit to ATL and yet again this establishment did not disappoint. Im not really a breakfast person, but I had a taste for cheese grits and they were delicious. Hubby had an omelet and their signature biscuit which he thoroughly enjoyed. Located in hip neighborhood, the staff is friendly, the prices are fair and the food is just good!

DAMN BEST

By Green7233 |

This is the best spot to start a morning off. I always get the cheese grits with the shrimp and catfish and the eggs are the BOMB

Delicious breakfast!

By Nate D |

Farmer's omelette and spuds were very good. Portions are huge! I barely finished the meal. Service was also fast & friendly.

Hit the spot

By bevsensualparty |

Very happy I stumbled across this find! Service was quick, meal was plentiful and not overly costly! Seems to be a very popular location, will definitely visit again, to try the catfish and grits!

Perfect breakfast!

By Lori T |

Whether you want pancakes or biscuits, an omelet or grits, the Thumbs Up Diner serves up a perfect breakfast. The bacon was thick cut and delicious, the Georgia-grown grits were super tasty, and the biscuit was one of the best I've had. The best part of breakfast for me, though, was the homemade peach preserves - full of flavor and chunks of peaches. This restaurant is small, so recommend visiting at an "off-peak" time to really enjoy it.

Neighborhood Gem Worth Visiting

By klmaestra |

It seems everyone in Atlanta know Thumbs Up Diner. I found it while searching for a place for lunch near the Martin Luther King Historic District. Everyone there was enthusiastic about our choice but were also quick to remind us that the restaurant is cash only. It is not a place aimed at tourists as it is a bit off the beaten trail. All that said, the food is plentiful and hearty and the service is good. We had breakfast food for lunch but the lunch plates around us looked good too. Try their version of breakfast potatoes for sure. That was our favorite part of the meal. The crispy parts were delicious.

VERY GOOD FOR BREAKFAST!!!

This place was very good. diner food at its best. OMG!!!!! Fast and nice service. Also good food. I can't wait to go back to the ATL and go again.

Last minute find

By Brad M |

I was out doing errands and wanted to go to a "breakfast" place that I had not been to before. When I arrived around 11:45a on a Saturday, the line was out the door. As a single, I signed up to sit at the first avail position and got a seat at the counter within 15-20 min. I ordered the heart healthy egg white omelette with a multi grain biscuit which was delicious and my server was very nice and made me feel welcome. A real mix of clientele which was refreshing. I would definitely go back. Perhaps I got lucky finding a parking place very close. I am probably giving my rating a 4 because it looks a little run down on the inside of the restaurant and some of the wooden benches in the outside waiting area were broken.

Breakfast with Sibling

Met my baby sister for breakfast and wasn't aware they are cash only. However, breakfast and service were great.

My new go to stop in atl

By PureTruthBtold |

The customer service was amazing from the entire staff. We were traveling through and decided to stop here to eat. The entire family loved their food. The portion sizes were just right. Their grits were the only restaurant that’s I’ve had that I didn’t have to add any seasoning or fillers to enjoy. Their plant based sausage was Amazing, not sure which brand they were. Even my lucky eating toddler flats well. There’s isn’t a kid menu but u can order single items. This is also a cash only establishment….. the prices are decent! I highly recommend for families and date night!!!

Great Breakfast!

By divalicious1 |

This restaurant was recommended by a local person. We were pleased. The portion sizes were BIG!. The create your breakfast was a nice option and you can decide which items you wanted on your breakfast plate. We went on a week day and 9:30 and it was a steady flow of customers. There was a minimal wait to be seated. The staff was pleasant. We had several different dishes. They were all delicious. The smoked chicken wings were seasoned and tasty. The french toast was buttery and a hinge of sweetness. The pancakes were large size. The potatoes were good. A place I would recommend everyone try. May take a few minutes to find parking, but worth the effort.

Wow

Best place in Atlanta for brunch. If you do not try the fish you are missing an amazing meal. Place was crowded however we were seated within minutes. Service was outstanding. Amazing meal.....

Looking for local, I think I found it!

By Joe M |

After finishing our tournament games for the day, a group of us found our stomachs having conversations. My choice when traveling is to eat local when possible, so I gathered a group of hungry stomachs and we went in search of a local establishment to satisfy our stomachs. A quick Google search identified the Thumbs Up diner which wasn't far from our location at the convention center. A couple minutes in the car and we were there. I was surprised to find the place so packed that only valet parking was available in the parking lot for the building. I believe this is because they need to manage the parking spaces well in order to keep the restaurant traffic flowing smoothly. The valet parking is free although we did leave a tip... I always feel obligated... Anyhow, the restaurant was packed just like the parking lot. We put our name on the list by the door and proceeded to wait a little while. Given the day was sunny and not too warm, I sat out front and waited until a few spots at the bar were available. Note that this is not a bar in the form of beer and cocktails, but rather the bar of a diner. Sitting at the bar you can see the kitchen and the cooks working up the meals of the patrons. It was a rather neat place to sit and reminded me of the old sitcom Alice. The food is diner food and is served hot and fresh. The service is spot on even though you might get the impression that the crowd is too large to manage; however, this was never the case with our party of 8 as we were attentively minded throughout the visit. I had a good burger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and fries. It was tasty. The variety of dishes including breakfast items was more than adequate to meet the taste challenges of a family with different craves. We also had a potato hash heap for an appetizer that was loaded with cheese and bacon. If you are looking for something a little different and very filling, the heap will do ya. My outlook on the Thumbs Up is, well, two thumbs up!

I could have done better

By Applebomb13 |

This place here!! I'm craving it now. My boyfriend introduced me to this place last week and we invited his cousins with us. This is why I say I could have done better... I'm so indecisive when it comes to new places. Everything looks amazing, but I'm always curious about portion sizes...why didn't I ask? I was hungry, cut me some slack! After expressing my indecisiveness to the amazingly nice waitress, she simply asked me with ALL the patience in the world, "what do you want? Don't look at the menu, just go with your taste buds." I heard her, but I wasn't really comprehending, the endless possibilities of everything that is already seen. LoL my mistake! I went second, so I didn't get to hear everyone else's options and I don't like to back track and change my order. *I know better now!!* #ChangeIsGood Getting to the point. There was this 'Ultimate Seaside Dish' with fried catfish... **my stomach will resent me for this, I'm so hungry** I don't remember anything, except for the fried catfish, it was mouth-watering and I. didn't. even. need. hot sauce!! When the food came, my plate looked so blah - my waffle, grits and chicken sausage...BUT the flavors were still ON POINT! Everyone had catfish but ME, so I picked off my boyfriend's plate after I finished mine. (^_^) The food is amazing, cooked to perfection, with love. The atmosphere is calm, but full of life and the staff are even better!!

Great food, reasonably priced. Wait wasn't too long. Keep in mind Cash Only. Wait staff was pretty in attentive. Food was delicious. Like the custom dishes and locally named plates. Definitely need to try this place at least once!

Fabulous find in downtown Atlanta

By Traveling Coach |

I was going to meet a dear friend for lunch but due to a meeting cancellation I finished early. He suggested we meet at Thumbs Up and I am so glad he did. It was terrific. The staff works hard in this small-ish establishment but they are delightful......friendly and hospitable. The menu is lovely with several specials listed on the chalk board in front. I had no idea this establishment had been around for ten years and have 6 locations around Atlanta. Guess I need to spend more time in town. We both had breakfast, which is clearly their specialty. They do serve burgers and blue plate specials but breakfast is not to be missed. Lots of choices on omelettes, sausages, pancakes and waffles (including chicken and waffles, a Southern favorite). The coffee cup was never empty and the wait staff was outstanding. It had been some time since I visited with my friend so we rather monopolized the table for quite some time. However, there was never a hint of pushing us out to "turn the table" and our coffee cups stayed full of hot coffee while we were there. In short, this is a great find and I intend to make a note of their other locations for future reference as breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. One surprise I discovered was that they do not take credit cards............cash only, so come prepared. This worked out in my favor since my friend knew this and had cash while I was only carrying plastic. Don't miss this place. It is terrific !!

Best Diner Brunch

Great challah French toast stuffed with blueberries and cream cheese, biscuits and jam with fresh scrambled eggs, creamy grits, and fried pork chops. Delicious - a solid 7/10.

Down-home Breakfast Joint

By Shaun M |

We went on a Saturday morning and sat at the counter. The staff was friendly and attentive. All three of us ordered the Skillet Heap, with various breakfast meats and egg varieties. I got mine with bacon and scrambled eggs. I've included a picture of it. The heap was delicious! And it definitely deserves it's name - you'll have a hard time finishing it. It was a filling and scrumptious breakfast to start our day. Afterward we walked over to Ponce City Market; it was a great way to walk off breakfast. Be advised: this place only takes cash! But it has old-fashioned prices. You definitely get your money's worth.

This is one of the BEST diners we have visited!!!

By Kaptainkoolg |

This diner and service are top notch!! Very clean, simple and customer focused. The menu is simply out of this world, and the food AMAZING!! No matter what you order, it will be unique, tasty and great portions. At the East Point location we had the Salmon Omelette and a build your own breakfast and it was OUTSTANDING. While there we observed some of the more classic foods that were being served and they TOO were great!! The diner boasts (and delivers!) premium ingredients and in-house turkey and chicken products, all fresh, all plated and served hot. We cannot wait to visit again, we have a whole lot of dishes to try!!!

Good Breakfast- cash only

By DMSALYMAK |

Trusted the reviews & they were right. Good breakfast w awesome breakfast potatoes. Would of given 5 stars but bacon was under heat lamp way to long. Would definitely come back. Cash only if you visit

Just what we needed!

By TSpange |

We were looking for a quick and tasty breakfast joint before heading to the zoo and, boy, did Thumbs Up fit the bill. When I go to a diner, I’m looking for fast, friendly, and attentive service which is exactly what we got with Amy today. I got one of the heaps with added goat cheese and bacon which hit the spot so well. I felt so ready and energetic to start the day. She kept our coffee cups from being empty, too, which is the most important part of any diner experience. Also, shoutout to the woman working and multitasking near the front where we ate. She made sure everyone was greeted and given advice on where to sit right as they walked in, all while handling her own tasks. Brilliant!

Good eating!

By Sweet_Teia |

Upon arrival we had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes to be seated, but it was well worth the wait. The servers were friendly and the food was amazing. You definitely get your money's worth!

2nd Time Not So Good

By Tim M |

This was my 2nd visit for breakfast. 1st time was great. Unfortunately, my 2nd visit, I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich. It came with no cheese. When I asked if they put cheese on it, the server says "I'm not sure. They should have" 🤔

Wow!

By Joan K |

Great breakfast! Multigrain biscuits to die for. Their breakfast potatoes out of this world. Generous portions, reasonable prices and friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Awesome Food

By Steve W |

The area is interesting to say the least and the wait was long (if you have Yelp, get in line before you arrive), but it was all worth it. Had Shrimp and Grits that we’re simply awesome

Amazing Food but a Bit Pricey

By BrandnwLi |

Well we had just flew in from Ft. Lauderdale into Atlanta and we needed somewhere to go for breakfast a friend had recommended going to thumbs up Diner near the airport but we wanted somewhere to go near our hotel. The first thumbs up we went to it took a while to find but once we arrived there the lights were out so we had to find the one on Edgewood. First you're going to need a GPS to find it and then the parking is a little bit confusing because it look as though you would not be able to find it. But rest a sure it is parking in the back but you would have to walk to the front. Once inside it was a wait because it was really busy but I can tell you it was the best wait ever. The moment we set down the waitress I wish I could remember her name was fabulous. We started looking over the menu because it was something new to us. So getting to the food the smoked chicken and waffles was AMAZING the grits was great. My Fiance had the same thing but he had eggs and he's usually the type to eat something then complain this time he couldn't believe how good it was.I so recommend Thumbs Up Diner. Price might make you cringe a little because our breakfast ended up being 40.00 for just the two of us but its not like youre going to go there everyday but pick a day that you want to spend like that and make sure to try to get there early so you don't have to wait.

Great Breakfast

By carol5029 |

I loves the atmosphere small and cozy....Great place to meet friends and have a nice breakfast. I love the fact that they don't take Charge Cards or Debit Cards.....lol The food was amazing and you must try the chicken and waffles...

Discriminatory Behavior and Poor Service

By 정진 김 |

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. I came in to order takeout for a hungry, needing person and was shocked when the server, Shane, refused to let me do so once he learned who the food was for. I politely asked for a reason, but he was incredibly unkind and dismissive, refusing to offer a reasonable explanation. His behavior was not only discriminatory but also completely unacceptable. Additionally, Shane was very slow at the counter, taking nearly 10 minutes to check out a simple sandwich and fries order. I remained respectful throughout the interaction, yet he showed zero professionalism or courtesy in return. He didn't even hand me the food, just putting it on the table and went off. As an international student at Georgia State, I find this experience ridiculous and deeply concerning, both socially and personally. It’s frustrating to see such poor service, and I believe the server does not deserve the service fee included on the food price and mandatory 20% tips in specific situation (more than 5 people, etc) for his neglect and lack of basic respect for customers. I am not saying restaurant itself or other employees are evil. I just want to say that if someone else see this comment, don't give service or tips for a person who don't deserve it.

Cash only! Nice vegan option!

By s.b.wess |

The tofu scramble was delicious! My husband got the Lowcountry heap and he loved it. The place is packed, so be prepared to wait! Cash only- ATM onsite.

Delicious and Impressive

By Adventure537121 |

a wonderfullly friendly and utterly delicious diner frequented by locals and tourists alike. The staff are excellent, the food fantastic and the location perfect for visits to surrounding neighborhoods and the King Center. Go, eat and enjoy!

Amazing breakfast stop!

By hrel |

Delicious food! Amazing service! Great for a large family. Highly recommend! The shrimp and grits were fantastic and my kids loved the homemade pancakes!

Breakfast

By joe P |

1st time here and I loved this place. I had fried fish with grits and eggs, my Son had Chicken and waffles. I like it because if you want you can get the same breakfast that you can make at home. We opted for a breakfast we would go to the trouble to make. That's why I go out to eat. This place is nothing fancy. Just plan good, and fast. We sat at the counter. Lest I forget. They have a nice size parking lot for my Long Wheel base F250. That's important when I visit my son. It's just a few blocks off the GT campus.

Sublime Breakfast

By DonzieJ |

A simple, atmospheric local restaurant where great food can be savored! Breakfast is my favorite meal here. Great catfish, smooth grits but darlin’ have the pancakes. I love pancakes and this is in the top three of all I have had! Great staff, reasonable prices and location near the MLK memorial make this a must visit!

4 Years Since Last Review Here -- Verdict: Still Terrific

By GPBurdell67 |

Looking for a Sunday brunch place, we decided to go to the original Thumbs Up. They have brunch specials but the regular all day menu has both breakfast and lunch items. Arriving at 11:30 a.m., we signed in and waited until noon to get a table (always busy, but they have benches outside to sit). Edgewood Avenue has built up over the last 5 years, so the neighborhood is really hopping. We ordered the French toast and cream cheese scramble. Both were excellent and large portions. Their coffee was really good and the iced tea served in very large plastic glasses. Service was a little slow but it's worth it to get cooked-to-order food. Prices are very reasonable. Summary; after 32 years at this spot, they still are a great place.

Cash only and Huge Portions

By scbleo |

Huge portions come hungry and come with cash. Only cash accepted. Parking can be tricky, learned side lot is for their parking, street parking is also okay. This is a tiny spot. Check-in when you arrive, or join the wait list if available. Don't plan on just grabbing seats at the counter, you have to ask the host. No seating unless your whole party is present too. Once we got the ground rules handled, you were able to snag two seats at the counter. As we were on road trip home mode, we were hoping for a bit quicker service at the counter. Well, this is the south, so being patient and courteous are required. Once our server Gwen came over, she was a nice as can be and was kind to stick that seeming hot cup of coffee under my nose. That made a huge impact on my kindness meter for sure! The coffee is strong and hot. The other folks, mostly if not all were locals and as nice as can be. This place is jammed packed with folks waiting too. Orders are made to order, so be patient. And when the food came out the portions were huge, hot and delicious. The bonus of sitting at the counter was to observe not only the wait staff manage the numerous to-go orders but to watch the cooks prepare the food. There are three back there that we could see and it was like watching a symphony. Where one begins the next picks up and moves the food out to the waiting area. There are quite a few menu options so really come hungry. The only thing I didn't love were my lumpy, dry chucks of spud potatoes. The spuds include onions and green peppers. It's just that the potatoes were dry. The omelette was so good and I really wasn't able to finish it. Overall, the meal was wonderful and yes, I would go again.

Fantastic Southern Breakfast

By krogersku |

Stopped here on vacation. Fantastic stop for authentic southern breakfast. Shrimp grits are very good. The standout though is the fish and grits. Great experience. Close to Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial site.

Four thumbs up!

By Tina G |

4 thumbs up! 2 from me and 2 from my daughter. Nothing fancy about this place - but we really enjoyed the food. Everything was made to order. Cheeseburger and onion rings for me. My daughter got the pancake special. The 2 pancakes came on a plate by themselves. Eggs, bacon, and potatoes filled up another plate. Could easily feed 2 people. Great service! We'll be back!

Great Brunch Spot

By Kourtney M |

Great cream cheese eggs, shrimp grits and French toast! Definitely a great spot for brunch when in Atlanta. Service was great also.

Great Breakfast

By AndreLePlume |

Had the fried fish and grits with eggs. Everything was great. Fish was extremely well prepared and not greasy at all. Biscuits were delicious. Also very friendly service and very reasonably priced. Great place for breakfast.

Ok breakfast spot

By sheilarenee2016 |

I ordered the fish and grits which were okay and nothing to write home about. The biscuits were multigrain buttermilk is my best description. My friend had the pork chops which was not what you would think of for a fried pork chop they were coated with a mixture of cornmeal and flour. A decent spot for breakfast, get there early or be prepared to wait.

Great food

By Nick K |

On our way to the Martin Luther King Historical Park looking for breakfast and found this gem. Parking is limited, place is busy because the food is GOOD! Note, CASH ONLY

Diner Great!

By tmaffett |

If you are in the downtown area, give this small little diner a try. The food is great I think, but get ready to wait for a few minutes. Typical wait is about 10-15 minutes most times I visit, but it's worth the wait. I only caution you to bring cash because they do not take credit cards, which I think or hope they will change soon. Overall though, good little diner to try while you are in town.

Best brunch in Atlanta

By Donal Traynor |

Just back from an amazing brunch. I was on my own so sat at the counter. Filter coffee was fine, but low country heap was amazing and great value. If only I lived nearer, maybe they’ll open their next restaurant in Ireland.

Big portions

By Jennifer Z |

We stopped here for breakfast before heading home. The prices were cheap, and the menu had a ton of options. My omelet was huge. I really liked the biscuit and strawberry preserves. Service was good and the food arrived quickly. Seating is limited, and make sure you bring cash!

Great Experience

By William S |

Perfect breakfast/brunch menu including a make-your-own. Tried an omelet, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon and pancake, among other items. The eggs were perfectly cooked (for our tastes) and nicely seasoned. I loved the malt flavor in the pancakes. Nice to have turkey bacon available in place of pork. The atmosphere is light (lots of windows) and friendly. It felt like a community and not just a restaurant. Great service. Cash only payments is the one drawback.

4 Thumbs Up

By Kevin M |

Big portions, great taste, and a friendly thoughtful staff. What’s not to like? My son and I ate there a couple of weeks ago and the table was barely big enough to hold all the food. My son’s order was supposed to have blueberry pancakes but it came out with plain pancakes. We didn’t say anything but a few minutes after we were served a cook came out with a plate of blueberry pancakes.

OMG Must Try

By Tracey L |

I have breakfast here every time I fly to Atlanta. Best catfish and skillet breakfast ever....I'd advise you to make a reservation as it is always crowded. And be mindful, they only accept cash.

A BREAKFAST PLACE THAT REALLY STANDS OUT ABOVE MOST

By JorgeparaSãoMiguel |

SO in my life there are 3 places in the US that I have been that I feel warrant a 5. One place is Bensons Sugar Shack in Thornton NH, the Atlanta Breakfast Club and the Thumbs Up Diner. First of all as soon as you enter the Thumbs Up Diner you KNOW you are welcome. The people are so friendly. The service is just top notch all the way. We went 2 days straight and enjoyed many of the items. I had cinnamon raison bagels 1 day and the the french toast with New England maple syrup the next. People had the eggs, the pork patties, home fries toast. Everyone was stuffed. The food was great, tasty and hot. What was also amazing was that it was very very down to earth prices. We left after the second day convinced if we went back a third time the owners would adopt us! Just a really wonderful place with great welcoming staff. I wish there were times we could give a 6 because this is one of those places.

We'll be back for sure!

By 3rh0 |

We had a party of 5 at 2 on a Sunday. We waited for about an hour, which was to be expected, and it was well worth the wait. Everything we got was great: omelette (they are so generous with the cheese!), skillet heap (potatoes with eggs and whatever else you want to add to it) and the chicken and waffle. The chicken and waffle was amazing. Get the biscuit and put their homemade peach jam on it! Good prices too! They wouldn't let me buy the mug my coffee came in off them ("don't vark too aard"), so I just bought it off eBay! :) Our waitress was great--super efficient and fast. Also loved the art on the walls! We'll be back for sure.

You don't want to miss this one!

By Wendy S |

Very good service, food, and hospitality. The food portions are unbelievable. The prices are very reasonable.

Yum. Awesome atmosphere

By Acburns11 |

This place was amazing! The food was so delicious and the atmosphereade us feel like we found a hidden gem in Atlanta. It wasn't so commercial, more comfortable. You will not be disappointed.

Just what they promised - delicious brunch!

By GeoRoadWarriors |

After spending 12 hours in and out of airports due to flight delays and cancellations, we arrived in Atlanta for a 48 hour getaway and had four recommended brunch places in the area. Thumbs Up was on our travel route and we dropped in around 1:30 on a Friday. The coffee was delicious and refillable. The spuds were done to crispy at our request and were really good. Fish and eggs cooked to order. Pecan pancake was YUMMY. You want brunch? They got brunch! Staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. Definitely recommend.

Excellent Breakfast

Great local spot for breakfast. Our table enjoyed omelettes and French toast with fruit. The whole grain biscuits are very tasty. The portions were quite generous. It's very popular so be prepared to wait for a table.

Food was good, was in and out rather quickly. No complaints on food or service. It is cash only that is the only thing I would change.

BEST DINER IN ATL!!!

By Alyssa F. |

My friends and I came here on accident because the place we were originally visiting was packed. This was the best accident ever! I don’t have any photos because we scarfed everything down immediately. We went on a Sunday morning and there was about a 20 minute wait but the food makes up for it. They have a good system of getting people seated and the waiters and waitresses are so nice. Our waiter made sure we were good but didn’t over do it. We had the steak and eggs, pancakes, and an omelet. Everyone was very pleased with our food and we are making sure we come back every time we’re in town. Thumbs up for Thumbs Up Diner!!!!

Great food, cozy atmosphere

By maneice |

The place is CASH ONLY!! However, there is an ATM onsite. Now, the service and food are excellent. Get there early as parking is limited.

Best Breakfast in forever!

By DPinnow |

This restaurant was recommended by my Google Map App... I'm so glad I listened. We were greeted by a friendly face at the door, promptly seated, Service was friendly, efficient and prompt. Coffee was great and the food even better... My only complaint... There isn't one of these where I live. I had the French toast and my husband had a skillet heap and my son had a melt sandwich and fries... the food was absolutely wonderful. Add a little Al Green and the rest is history... I'll come again if I stop in Atlanta.. so worth the drive!! Thank you.

Great Breakfast

Found this diner while visiting GA. Excellent find. The food was delicious. The portions were plentiful and the prices were reasonable. Marcus, our server, was great. The experience was so good we returned the next day and the service and food were just as good. Only thing... no credit cards accepted.

Great brunch near MLK National Historical Site

By Rob L |

This small restaurant has delicious food, big portions, wide menu selection and excellent service at reasonable prices located a short drive from the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Site.

Great Cheesy Grits!

By Isabelita W |

Thumbs Up Dinner is a great breakfast stop with a wide variety of options on their menu. This was my first time trying cheesy grits and oh my were they delicious! I wish I would have ordered the shrimp and grits just to have more grits! The French toast is super thick and so good! My fiancé and I left full and happy. The staff was very nice which was like a cherry on top of our morning.

It’s just ok

By islandqueen876 |

The problem I have with this restaurant is the fact it’s a cash only payment most people today either use credit card cash app Zelle, the food was just ok for me I will say this the chicken Brest was cooked well I truly enjoyed it however the sliced potato’s not so much , I also ask for my eggs to be cooked over medium but when I got my food the eggs was over easy I was a bit annoyed they they didn’t make the eggs how I wanted it the pancakes was vey hard and cold so I send it back but I didn’t ask for another one the waitress was upset and really show that in her service for those reasons I give this restaurant that rating

Please Accept Credit Cards

By infoB7468HS |

I LOVE the food, but have you guys started accepting credit and debit cards yet? Its one if my only peives. If I forget (which I often do) to bring cash. I hate having to pay that atm surcharge, and why should I? when i’m already paying for food? Please accept cards if you have started already! Thanks, OMW!

Based on comments from other reviewers on TripAdvisor, my wife and I went to Thumbs Up Dinner for breakfast. We were not disappointed. The food was absolutely fantastic. Great atmosphere, great service and huge portions. We will definitely be back our next trip to Atlanta.

Mini Vacay!

By Meghan M |

We found this place on trip advisor while looking for breakfast on our way to the zoo! This is a neat little place to eat! I had the steak and eggs breakfast and it was wonderful, my boyfriend did the build your own and never once complained about his food! They give you a menu full of breakfast options! I had the spuds with my meal and it was a HUGE helping! We did not leave hungry! The staff was friendly and the place was very clean! We will most likely eat here again when we visit Atlanta again!

sooooo good!!

By nubiansis7777 |

This was a really good place to eat. As you can see, the portions are generous. There will be a wait but it is worth it. Not a big place so expect to be cozy. Only downsides for me is they are CASH ONLY and there is no wifi. I will be back again!

Just the Right Mid-Day Stop

By Jerry M |

After spending the morning at the MLK National Historic Site, we were ready for a hearty meal to carry us over into an afternoon of more sightseeing. The Thumb's Up Diners was busy when we entered but seating was available at a booth in the main dining room. We perused the menu and ordered; My wife went for the Fried Catfish Blue Plate Special with Sautéed Spinach and Mushrooms while I stuck with breakfast, ordering the Skillet Heap (A skillet full of fresh-sliced potatoes grilled with onions, green peppers topped with cheddar jack cheese, two scrambled two eggs and chopped chicken sausage). This was satisfyingly good food and there was much of it. I only made my way through half of my order, getting a to-go box that we would get consume later that day as part of a snack based dinner we’d enjoy. All in all good food at not unreasonable prices

Great breakfast and brunch diner

By Stuart S |

Great old fashioned breakfast and brunch dinner. Huge selection of omelettes and pancake fare. Great value with good quality food, large portions at a very reasonable price. Drinks are bottomless. As a non egg eater, the tofu entree was excellent.

We ended up at Thumbs Up due to Trip Advisor review... even though it was about 10:30 on a Friday morning, it was busy as if it was a weekend (I wonder what the weekend is really like!)... that being said, we did not wait long. Coffee was AMAZING!! I cannot recommend enough the Sassy Eggs (scrambled eggs with lox, onions, herbs, and cream cheese)... probably the best eggs I have ever eaten! My daughter wanted a grilled cheese sandwich, is not on the menu, and they made it for her. The service was fantastic. I cannot recommend this breakfast/lunch place enough!

Thumps down...not as good as it used to be

By Gia2572015 |

I lived in Atlanta a few years ago and Thumps Up was always a go-to treat for my friends and I so when I went to ATL for a quick weekend I made time to go to one of my favs...I was deeply disappointed. Although it was as a Saturday morning I had beat the crowd and it was not extremely busy...my food came out with precooked bacon, my eggs were cold and my toast was stale. I won't be back...just have to stick to old memories of what it once was.

So fabulous... get the grits with cream cheese!

By Wendy W |

The house made Corned Beef hash was sublime, buttery, not salty... so good. Paired with grits with cream cheese was pure perfection. The biscuit was also really good. Our server was delightful and helpful. I would happily go back to this restaurant.... just don't park in the garage behind the restaurant. $8 fee for the less than two hours we parked there!

Yummy 😋 *cash only*

A classic diner breakfast with big portions for your dollar. The staff was fabulous and the food was unbelievably good!

Nice Place and Great Deck

By ljrapp16 |

The food and service was good. I wish my food was a bit hotter and my guest had more cheese in his. But overall the server was friendly and the experience was very good. The deck is great on a nice day and they have a great selection of breakfast choices.

Breakfast in Atown

By Christina |

Driving through Atlanta we googled all kinds of places to stop for breakfast and Thumbs up stood out because of their menu. Best decision ever! It is a small restaurant but the had great music on and lots of art on the walls. Heads up! They are ca$h only but have an atm in the building to help out so it's really not an inconvenience. Our server was very nice and attentive to us. I ordered shrimp and grits😍😍 and my kids ordered stuffed french toast and a Belgium waffle. Be ready for large portions and left overs 😊 the food was so tasty and filling. Oh and the coffee! They have a special coffee drink on the menu, the name escapes me now but you will love it!! Topped with a mountain of whipped cream and just the right amount of coffee and sweetness☕ When ever I get back to Ga I'll definitely be stopping by again.

Unbelievably rude & incompetent service

By Galadriel14 |

I called in an order. I got in my car and drove to the restaurant. I stood in the front waiting and no one said a word to me. After waiting about five minutes I mentioned to a waitress that I was there for a to go order. She snapped back at me saying something like “oh that’s nice, good for you.” Everyone standing there looked at each other shocked. Eventually someone else came up for to go orders and I asked her about the no cash signs and she said they don’t accept credit card. I didn’t have any cash on me nor did I have my debit card. They have an atm which charges a fee. After all of this I had to leave and tell them to throw my food away. I think it is completely ridiculous to have a restaurant and not take cards, but if you want to do that you should at least TELL people that when they call to place an order. I wasted about 40 minutes of my day in total and I will not ever be back because of how rude the waitresses were.

Great Breakfast

I first dined at Thumbs Up in East Point, then I dined at the Thumbs Up on Edgewood. Both times I got the same meal and was more than satisfied. I got the Seafood breakfast(fried catfish, shrimp & grits, and eggs). Here's their secret weapon, they have these eggs called "Sassy Scramble" which are scrambled eggs with cheese, onions, and smoked salmon. One word : Delicious !!! I will be dining there again in the near future :)

Mind Blowing!

I live in Jacksonville, Florida. As a Mom of 6 children, I struggle to find meals that please everyone. Most of us are still dreaming about the perfection of the cheese grits and pancakes. Everything we had has amazing! The pancakes, eggs, bacon, cheese grits, pancakes, french toast, and grilled veggies were more than worth the price! The only problem is we don't have one in Jacksonville,

A good place, but not really worth a 45 min wait

By Julie K |

This is a good solid breakfast spot that ONLY TAKES CASH and is always about 45 min or 12 parties wait on the weekends. Serves really big portions but the atmosphere is a little crowded and ragged. Staff is really nice though, very sweet

Great!!!

We were here for breakfast and even midmorning on a Friday, the place was packed! Our service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious!! The southwestern eggs were perfect and the potatoes were so yummy! I would definitely eat here again! Heads up, it is cash only, but they have an atm if you forget😊

Waffle and chicken

By Marcyne |

I went there because my son recommended it. He wanted their waffle and chicken. I was so hankering a waffle and fried chicken, but was disappointed when I found out they made theirs smoked. I ended up getting a healthy omelette whites with spinach and sprouts. It was amazing, especially for such a healthy dish. I did get a taste of the smoked chicken, and then I realized how wrong I was. It was smoked to perfection. It had a taste of smoke, but not overly done. Crispy on the outside and moist inside. Healthier than what I had originally wanted too. They have a great variety so if you have picky eaters, from wanting sweet stuff, to heavy on the meats, to healthy alternatives, they have it all.

Best pancakes I've ever had!

Like a better quality waffle house. Best pancakes EVER!! Very fast paced, yet good customer service.

May return but didn't love food this trip

By Amanda G |

The service was great but the food we ordered wasn't great. We may return still to try other dishes to see if we like others but this trip we were not too impressed. Our bill was $75 with tip for three meals and drinks.
