Eccentric décor, with a rustic atmosphere...the food presentation was beautifully arranged and the taste is there to match! The staff went over and above for us, great experience all around and check out the bathroom in this place! Pretty Cool!

I met a friend here the other night and we both really enjoyed our meal. We started with the Whitefish Ceviche and it was so good I'm looking for another reason to go back and have more already. The seared sea scallops were cooked just right and complemented by the butternut squash puree. The cast iron chicken was good, but there wasn't anything about it that made it special. I doubt I would order it again. The service was good -- professional and attentive but not intrusive.

The food was incredible. There were 6 of us, and we all order a different entree, as well as 2 different appetizers. I will warn you, for many of the dishes, the portions are small, especially when you consider the price point. Again, the quality and the flavors of each was out of this world. We were there for dinner, so you might want to try lunch or brunch if you choose not want to spend us much money. The atmosphere was very cute, casual Texana. Great service and excellent bar.

Homemade chocolate, marshmallows and crackers?! YUM! Fantastic service in a cozy and funky atmosphere. Awesome wines. Here's to the news Tillman's Roadhouse!

We had the most amazing dinner tonight. Our group had the fry trio. We split the Bib and blue salad and the shrimp & grits. To top off our meal we had the s'mores and Texas mud cake--such a treat! Everything about our night was perfect! Don't miss out!

We selected Tilman's Roadhouse because they were participating in the Dallas Restaurant Week and thought we'd give them a try...boy are we glad we did! We had an early reservation (6:00) and there were 6 of us. LUCKILY we were seated in their back "private" room with eventually another larger group. I can't thank the hostess enough for sitting us back there. We are all in our 50's so it was SO nice to be seated in a more quiet area of the restaurant where we could actually hear one another including those across the table from us so THANK YOU!! Second, the food was DELICIOUS! I had the Shiner bock and brisket soup. I'm pretty "mild" when it comes to spicy and this soup was a bit on the spicy side, but it was so tasty, I couldn't stop eating it. Next came their famous chicken fried steak and it was probably the best I'd ever had. The breading was perfect with just the right seasoning. The meat was lean and moist. The meal came with mash potatoes and some of the best green beans any of us had ever had - yum! Finally, I ended my meal with their key lime and cactus pear cheesecake - not too sweet and just the right size to finish a fabulous meal! I also enjoyed a glass of their wine and others enjoyed several of their different cocktails and all of us were pleased. When we left our little "secluded" room in the back, the rest of the restaurant was "hopping" and pretty noisy, so we were SO thankful that we had been seated properly so thank you thank you thank you for a fabulous night out!! We'll be back!!

I've been going to this place since Ricky and Sarah Tillman opened it almost 20 years ago. Sarah has been running the place since Ricky's untimely passing many years ago and she's done a first rate job. Completely renovated and a new menu about 2 years ago, this has become a go to place for brunch, lunch and dinner int he area. The table side S'mores with home made marshmallows and graham crackers are not to be missed. The Red Velvet cake is a work of art.

Was in Dallas last week and had dinner at Tillman's Roadhouse. Very nice place! This is in a trendy area (Bishop Arts District) so I would advise a reservation. Place was crowded but we were seated immediately. Server could not have been nicer. Had Blood Orange margaritas and appetizers to start. Drink was fantastic and the fried okra was small, tender and delicious. Chicken Fried Steak was a house specialty and very good – more than I could eat. Finished up with s’mores cooked at the table - very cool. All in all, a very nice restaurant. Only issue was that a member of our party had some dietary restrictions – nothing crazy, just needed something plain like chicken breast or vegetables. They received a tremendous amount of resistance and skepticism to the point of embarrassment. I get that food allergies and gluten free seem to be the “in thing” and restaurants can get fed up with all the exotic requests but this was a simple request, politely proffered and the amount of resistance seemed unnecessary. I would recommend sticking with menu items.

Well there we were sad and hungry after we found out that the BBQ places we wanted to visit was OUT OF MEAT. After a long flight we just opened up Mr Google and it directed us here due to the time of day. When we entered, we knew things were NOT remotely BBQ friendly on the contrary we entered the GOURMET ZONE. Yes, yes that place where Mac & Cheese cost $7.00. When we opened the menu it was all confirmed, time to break out with the plastic and a credit increase. The group ordered chicken fried steak, burger and I had quesadillas with mac and cheese. In a nut shell, burger was good, the gourmet ketchup was delicious, the chicken was ok and my quesadilla was blah....compared to the mac & cheese which was average. The final cost $22.15 so I'd say no but your call. Enjoy

We have been lunching here for 3 years and I have never had a bad meal or service. It is always good and we love to try what the waiter recommends.

I cannot say how excellent their food is! I live in Seattle and when I travel to Dallas I always come here! The tator tots with truffle oil are to die for! The chicken fried steak--- so tender and scrumptious! And make sure you finish with the smores. Such a fun experience every time!

On my last visit to Dallas while i spent a 16hr layover some of my good friends brought me to this place to experience dessert it was great as we came last in the night and still made some time to serve us. On our return to Flower mound i realized i had forgotten my cellphone in the restaurant, my friend called and Yes they had it and they where kind enough to wait for us to come back pick it up even we where 40min away. Learning lesson Do not leave a place with out double checking you beloggings! After this great experience we told our server and guy that was waiting on us TiTTO that we where going to come back for dinner, and we did last sunday. The place is so unique and with a different concept, they have taken care of every little detail and even had a dj playing all kind of different nice music to a great level so you can cominicate as you are enjoying the evenning. I had a stack of Ribs, even im not use to eat that much pork they were to die for and pretty big, the chipotle grits were really good. We also tried chicken fried steak and was awesome, scallops and their burger was very good as well. The only down side (in a good way) make sure you leave room for marshmellow dessert cause even you get full you will have to have it!!! Great experience! Will be back on my next visit to Dallas, may take a while as my home town is Cozumel!!! Adrian from Eaglerider Harley Rentals Cozumel

The location is great, right in the midst of the Bishop Arts District of Dallas. The food was very good. Loved everything I ate. The service was poor, but I think it was an anonmyly. One order for our table was forgotten and we all were finished eating beef that entree arrived. There were a few glitches like this which detracted from an otherwise perfect dinner.

This is in an up and coming district south of downtown but worth the drive. Not a big menu but a creative one. Nice selection of wine and local beer. Didn't care for the appetizers. Main courses were very good as was the heirloom tomato salad. Liked the venison Fritos Pie, pork chop, chicken fried steak. Table side s'mores are a fun treat.

We had Sunday brunch here this week. Tillman's offers great food coupled by a lounge-like ambience in the increasingly popular Bishop Art's District. I enjoyed the eggs benny, while my wife liked the breakfast tacos. Sangria and Mimosas are a steal at $15 a pitcher, much cheaper than buying per glass if you are in a group. Though the staff was noticeably busy, service was good for the most part. We entered at the tail end of brunch and were allowed to enjoy at our pace, staying past the 3:00pm closing time. In sum, great food and a cool vibe. We will definitely return to sample their dinner offerings in the future.

Visiting from NJ, we couldn't pass up local fare. We had the chicken fried steak as part of our brunch. It was amazing. We also had the banana bread as an appetizer, yes, appetizer. But the homemade s'mores bar delivered to your table takes the cake. Give it a go, and spring for the sangria - it's not just juice!

Walked in late for dinner group of 8 and easily sat down on Sunday night. Had some wine, beer and S'mores. Tremendous cook your own S'mores at your table.

Our service was awful. Our appetizer came out insanely fast and it was cold suggesting that it was something someone else sent back. However as fast as the appetizer came out the entree NEVER came out. people who cam in 20 min later than us and sat down near us got there food faster than us. Because out waiter was useless. i have seen high schoolers do a better job. He wouldn't give us any time to order, rushing us and then running off before we were finished. He stood around talking to other waiters and NEVER came to check on us. Finally we called the manager after we waited over an hour and still never go our food.

We had amazing meals! Restaurant was recently redone, with a cool bar and a fun atmosphere. The black pepper truffle popcorn was unique and delicious. All meals and drinks were yummy. And dessert was fabulous. The s'mores were so much fun and the most delicious marshmallow ever, and I'm not even a marshmallow fan. Will definitely return.

Sunday brunch. Ordered tomatoes watermelon appetizer drizzled with balsamic dressing. It was tasty but neither tomatoes or watermelon were flavorful as both were out of season. I ordered an omelette with avocado and fried potatoes. I asked them to go light on the salt so there appeared to be no seasoning on the omelette or potatoes. A little Tabasco took care of the blandness of three fluffy eggs with some avocado tucked in the fold. There appeared to be no other additions. My dining companion said the coffee was great.

I feel the East Texas Vibe when you walk into this place. But since it is all hipsters, you really get the sense that Bishop Arts is just trying to be Austin. That may be the case, but Austin does not have what Tillman's has. The Chicken Fried Steak with Green Bean and AMAZING mashed potatoes are just AWESOME. My wife and I went for our anniversary, and even though there holiday parties happening we still had great service and great food. The goat cheese tots, were uniquely flavored and were something I could have eaten all night. The portions are HUGE, so sharing is an option. Whatever you do... Do not come here without having the S'Mores for dessert. you get home made marshmallows (maple, Mint, and ROOT BEER) and you get home made graham crackers and some chocolate from Dude Sweet around the way, and a nice little fire to make the fine camping delicacy right at your table. Once a table orders it, it shows so well, everyone else does the same thing. Try it at least once, it is really a unique way to have dessert.

This is our go to favorite place in Bishop Arts District! Never had anything we didn't like and the service is impeccable! Give it a try! Cornbread muffins and smore's are a MUST!

Really like this place, as they cook everything there! Even the Venison Frito Pie has the corn chips made inhouse! I ordered a chicken-fried steak, and it was literally a STEAK dipped and fried! Not a cutlet, but a true steak! The goat cheese tater tots are a great appetizer, and the service is friendly and nice to look at!

I work in Oak Cliff and frequent Tillman's a lot for lunch. At lunch, as opposed to dinner, they start you off with their homemade potato chips. We usually go through several of them before lunch arrives because they are so good. I have tried multiple things on the menu and have never been disappointed. I love the atmosphere and all the waiters dress in cowboy attire. Also they make a different lemonade everyday and you can cook s'mores right at your table- delicious! They serve it with different chocolates and it's just a great campfire treat!

Upon entering Tillman's, my group of Pittsburghers were not sure what to expect. We had met the head chef outside the doors as he was leaving for the night but he assured us that we were in good hands with his staff. He recommended the gouda stuffed tater tots as an appetizer and highly recommended the chicken fried steak as an entree. Let me tell you....neither was a disappointment! Unfortunately, we were too full to try the homemade smores!!!!

My lover and I stumbled upon this place while heading by foot to Odd-fellows. We walked right in to Tillman's and got a table without wait. Our Brandon our server was super helpful and friendly. My boyfriend had the Chile relleno and I had the Texas Toast, both were incredibly tasty. The decor was super chic and the table next to us was friendly as well. Don't expect the coffee to add any new chest hairs, it was weak in my opinion, but didn't take away from the experience. ☕️❤️Really liked this place and will be back for again. 😍

Please make reservations. They are busy on the weekends. The food was really good and very unique. Ask to sit in the back. The front is a bit too noisy for my taste, but the backroom was great. We could actually enjoy each others company and hear the conversation. It is really a great place and I would recommend taking people from out of town for a special meal. The ribs were amazing and the special was the best pork chop ever!

My wife and I loved Tillmans! First we noticed the rustic yet trendy decor with big curtains that formed a pleasantly relaxing atmosphere. We were treated to some yummy popcorn while trying to decide which wonderful thing to eat. We decided to share the Chicken Fried Steak with the bacon mac n cheese, and cheese grits. The portion was plenty for the both of us. The chicken fried steak was very tender and lightly breaded to perfection. The sides were both delectable. The reason for sharing was well planned. We already had our minds and tastebuds set to tackle the homemade smores for dessert and neither were disappointed. The graham crackers and marshmellows were homemade. We had mint, maple, and blueberry marshmellows. It was our favorite food we had on our Texas trip and we had A LOT of good food.

Went to this restaurant with a group of Business associates. We ordered the fries as an appetizer and they came with two dipping sauces. The fries were okay but not impressive to me. What was impressive is the popcorn and that they give you on the tables that has a fantastic seasoning and is absolutely addictive. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we had A variety of entrées. The tableside Smore's are a ton of fun to cook and eat. The carrot cake was way too sweet but in true Texas style it was huge. The signature of blood orange margarita was also way too sweet. A couple of my friends tasted it and agreed. Overall an enjoyable evening though.

Came here with three other people one Sunday morning. We ordered the "HANGOVER BREAKFAST PLATTER FOR THE TABLE." At $45, it included "bennie & the jets, todays omelet, bacon, breakfast sausage, bbq spice potatoes & cinnamon monkey bread." We ate every single bite and loved it! If you don't have enough people for that, my favorite thing was bennie & the jets. I could easily gain 10 pounds just thinking about it.

We stopped in for brunch and I had the stuffed rellano and my wife had the blta sandwich....both were very tasty and had great flavor.

The big old steak was a big old piece of fat, we asked for medium rare it came out still moo-ing (aka raw) The potatoes weren’t seasoned. It was all around very blah and not worth $140 bill. Cocktails were very mediocre, as well as the wine selection. I prefer my $4.99 bottle of Blue fin Pinot noir from Trader Joe’s to their $14 glass.

Was in town for business and needed to have some ribs. Their baby backs were not quite fall off the bone but still very tender. I was not crazy about the chipotle bbq sauce. The bacon mac & cheese it was served with was so rich and delicious. Also had a side of broccolini which was cooked perfectly. Service was excellent.

Now, first off, I only came here because another establishment we had planned to eat at had an hour wait. So we walked in and were seated immediately. The food is pricey but the quality definitely makes up for it. This place is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. I got the chicken and waffles. This was 3 months ago and it’s still some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. I now compare any brunch experience to Tillman’s.

I really wanted to like this restaurant and, in fairness, there were some good dishes. Cocktails were interesting. The trio of fries about which so many rave were good and the portion extremely generous. The S'mores were also a lot of fun. Half orders are available and really all one needs for two people unless into gluttony. The orange marshmallow was particularly yummy. Now, as for what was in between. I had the chicken fried steak, which was made up of 3 balls of fried "meat" covered with a gloppy, thick, awful gravy. I gave one to my spouse and left the third. Really vile. My spouse had the ribs, which were just OK. The pickle chips were not good - a hard thing to accomplish since we’re talking fried pickles. They use a cornmeal breading and it was dry, granular, and overdone. The pickles also weren't sour enough. Again, we didn't bother with them after a few bites. Service was pleasant, although somewhat distracted. Our bill, which also included 2 glasses of wine, before tax and tip was $121.50, which would have been fine if the food had been generally good.

First time here with young people from out of town. We had a very enjoyable evening with delicious food that included the yummy tater tots filled with the truffle goat cheese together with the corn muffins and agave butter. Great combination as starters. We then had 4 different entrees - shrimp and grits (the shrimp marinade infused the succulent taste of these), the grilled pork chops (our friend got 2 HUGE chops and took one home!), the venison frito pie which my husband devoured and the baby back ribs which I heard no complaints about. After wine and beer, we were quite stuffed and did not partake of dessert. Maybe next time!

I can't say enough how wonderful the food and ambiance is here. Great for date night or with a group.

We came down to enjoy the Arts District while visiting our son. He picked this place for us so I had no notion what to expect. The ambiance and decor was unique. Our service was fine, not constantly at our elbow. The food was filling, starting with the homemade chips. We had the turkey melt sandwich, but the additions (thinly sliced apples and condiments) made it flavorful. The asparagus soup was warm and filling. Overall, a great lunch - $40 for 3 people.

All the food these guys serve is amazing. The service was bad - it was a madhouse and people were confused - so I can't really "blame" anyone. But we sat there for 30 minutes and had to ask someone to claim our table. I recommend reservations - walk in's will be smirked at - but maybe it was my hopeful countenance when I asked for a table, perhaps if you begin with "I'm sure you don't have a table - but what's this? $20?" If you go here - plan on getting the table side s'mores. The homemade marshmallows, crackers, chocolate, and the Sterno is not just fun - it's stunningly delicious...and I don't personally enjoy normal s'mores. But as I said - these are not "normal". Given how addictive they are they might very well be illegal for some reason. You've been warned, and nudged - enjoy.

We were invited to join friends last Saturday and had mixed feelings after reading the menu online. From what our friends described, I was excited. What y wife and I call "farm food." reading the menu online, I must admit concern on my part. Parts of everything sounded like "farm food" but other parts sure did not. Anyway, I decided to make the most of it put on a happy face and do my best to enjoy. Tillman's is located in the Bishop Art District which I have never been to in our 16 years in Dallas! It was a zoo down there and parking was hard to come by which was making me think twice about my concern of the menu. Finally found a parking spot and went in to Tillman's. The told us the table would be ready in 10 minutes and were seated 5 minutes later. Off to a good start. We ordered drinks which were also very good. A pomogranite mojito and a blood orange margarita. Both were very tasty. We ordered some frenchbfries as an appetizer and glad we did. Three favors, sweet potato with sea salt, regular with garlic and a third with chili powder. All three were good and the homemade ketchup was a nice addition. Now for the entrees, I had chicken fried steak and my wife had the pork ribs. Both were excellent. Could not be happier with the meal unless it was complementary. The ribs came with a side of Mac & Cheese with bacon which were good. We finished the meal with a table order of schmoor's. Homemade everything. The marshmallows were three favors, maple, cotton candy and pistachio. The table was split on if the maple,or cotton candy was best but unanimous that pistachio was third place. Also must commend David, our server, for a job well done. Great attitude and nice sense of humor.

Pros: The food is fabulous and the atmosphere is nice. It's location in the Bishop's Art District is fun and entertaining as well. Loved the french fry trios, the mac n cheese, and definitely the s'mores. Cons: the prices did not seem to equal the proportions...it can be pricey for a small amount of food. It was a great experience that everyone should try at least once. We had enough and probably won't go back. But I will recommend other to come out and try it.

My husband and I are always looking for great places for Sunday brunch. Tillman's is on that list but we were disappointed when we went last weekend and they had taken the Bennie and the Jets off their menu. That being said it was still good not great. Be sure to try the monkey bread to start. It is divine.

We got seated at a small table in a corner and were forgotten about for about 10 minutes. That did allow us time to review the menu. They had a fish special of scallops, but this is a Texas themed restaurant, so I decided against it and ordered the venison frito pie. We started with the trio of fries and the rock shrimp tacos, a good start. The venison frito pie was disappointing, it just didn't seem to have enough flavor. The mac and cheese side was quite tasty. W ended with tableside smores which was a fun ending. Mixed event

Cool and unique atmosphere. Food was out of this world. I had the tenderloin which was second only to the Dallas French Room's in taste. My wife had pan fried chicken, mashed potatoes...she loved it. Get their earlier or it will get crowded...Tillman's reputation is drawing people from all over DFW down to Oak Cliff. Area was safe and fun. Service was top notch. Never had to wait for service. Will definitely return.

My group and I had a wonderful dinner at tillmans! Being from a smaller city, the atmosphere was quite different than what I was used to. Amazing decor, amazing food, unique surprises, and great attention to detail. Highly recommend the smores dessert!!

Went there for a business meal. Set menu and they did a good job. Food was very good. Service was great. My group had a great evening. The ribs were very popular among those not from the south.

We're regulars here and have never left disappointed. The service is always good and so is the food. Sometimes the food is spectacular - their chicken fried hangar steak is fabulous! The s'mores are homemade - they've been featured on the Food Network - and they are otherworldly. Wine list is small but has good reasonable choices. This is gourmet roadhouse cuisine so don't go there expecting the typical New American Top Chef thing. Most of us regulars know this and really appreciate the unique dining experience we get here. But most of all, this is just a very cool and hip place in an extremely relaxed Austin-chic kind of way. If Matthew McConaughey lived in Oak Cliff, this is where I would expect him to hang out. So please, if you are coming here, please leave the stuffy attitudes in North Dallas and come chill out in one of the coolest spots in Oak Cliff.

We took friends to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary for our maiden trip to Tillman's, and we were amazed, and our stomachs were filled with pure deliciousness. Carlos, our waitperson and his understudy, Brandon, were attentive the entire evening and great at making suggestions. We each ordered a different entree, and we each thought ours was the best. The men had the chicken fried steak and the baby back ribs, which Carlos assured them were top choices. Shrimp and grits and airline chicken were the choices for the women, and I personally loved the chicken and the quinoa and kale side item. The real reason we came was for the s'mores, which are legendary. We can add our affirmations to the sensational dessert they are.

So we had a party of 10 and we got sat immediately and we were there for brunch time. We ordered 2 burgers which were really good and a plate called the hangovers platter and it had eggs bacon sausage patties toast cinnamon rolls and hash browns. It fed like 4 or 5 of us and ot was yummy. Service was excellent! We had 2 or 3 different people always refilling our drinks and helping.

The best thing on the menu is the potato appetizer. All other dishes we got (4) were very average. I would have been fine with that but items were very overpriced.

went here with a group of 4 and admittedly the food was quite good. The service was embarrassingly slow. The restaurant was not crowded which made it more apparent for our table and other tables that we were not being served in due course. Although we'd consider it, I doubt we'll go back.

You know I kinda hate to write this only because of the manager who was sooo darn nice. I feel bad however, truth time. We had this server who was the worst waiter on the planet. I use that loosely. Every thing you dont want in a server he presented. He was slow only because he was conversing with the kitchen. He didnt allow you to ask questions because he came to the table and asks you if you need a very specific something but as soon as you answer he turns away. Its noisy in there so just that act alone and you are done until he decides to come back. why because he keeps his back to the customers while hes just casually talking to the other workers. UNPROFESSIONAL! So why is he still there? Im sure we werent the only ones hes treated this way. This place is ok to go if you just want to drink and talk and you dont want to eat or be bothered by the waitstaff asking you if you need something because if you get this guy. That's never going to be the problem. Oh we never got our entree either. The people next to use who came in 20mins after us got theirs before us.

This is one of those places that you save up for special occasions, but the experience is so top-notch, you find yourself wanting to visit more often. I can save you the drama of a long, drawn-out review, and just let you know that everything is great on the menu. I've been here for business, casual dining, or just dessert . . . and the experience is always solid. I'm very happy with the attentive service, even when they're busy. It's a "go-to" place whenever I have out-of-town guests looking for something different. You will not go wrong dining here . . . whether it's lunch, dinner, or dessert.

Stopped in for dessert and drinks. The outdoor seating is covered, with cool air is circulating. The made from scratch s'mores were absolutely amazing! Parking is difficult to find, but will definitely return for dinner. Service was attentive but not intrusive.

Amazing restaurant with a rustic modern decor and very inviting menu, we had a great brunch in company of our texans friends, I ordered sliders with mimosas and I highly recommend it!

Visited Tillman’s Roadhouse yesterday for the first time. Went in just to escape the heat and get a drink. We were planning to have dinner elsewhere and had to wait until they opened. Hubby asked to take a look at their menu, and what we saw convinced us to stay for dinner. I rarely ever have chicken fried steak because I detest cream gravy, and the few CF steaks I’ve ever had have been jus aequate at best. Here I was intrigued by the poblano gravy and decided to give it a try. We were blown away first by the steak itself — perfect breading and seasoning, and it was fork-tender. The gravy was also wonderful. We also shared a Caesar salad which was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back.

Food didn't seem memorable, but guys it has a couple of things you will like plus the Lady folks will enjoy. Peanuts that you can eat and not worry about the shells falling on floor. How many people can turn down some "Samores" made by you with the hibachi they bring to table? Not sure if they still offer this, but something we all remember well.

This is classic example of what hometown restaurants can be. Excellence in service and in originality. I will admit I don't eat expensively often but when I do I am very picky. I can't find much that I can say that I disagree with. I was impressed with the mood/vibe the restaurant was giving (off). I strangely felt involved and homelike-as if i was over at a friends, campfire feel to it. The menu seemed balanced especially with the specification in the title "roadhouse." For the appetizers we had the 3 fries with two sauce selections. Great mix of for a thing as simple as fries. The tater tots were fantastic, greasy yes, but outstanding. The tots were filled It's been a couple of days since I went there but the name of the restaurant is still fresh on my mind but the title of the entrée chose was not. It was chicken wrapped in bacon and was on the right side of the menu (July 7th 2013). It had roasted carrots and I think it was the roasted or roadhouse chicken. There was so much flavor over all really good. The dessert we chose was the (chocolate mountain ice cream middle?) it was under neath the smores on the menu. It was fantastic. The portions weren't over priced and were large but not excessive. I ate everything on my plate I am not obese. Couples should try the smores.

Good was good but overpriced. Menu had some creative options but nothing special. Service was friendly but a a bit uneven.

First I saw the chef do cooking presentation - which was the most fun and delicious and then had to try the restaurant. The atmusphere is supper cool and food excellent. A true foody haven.

we popped in here for a nightcap after dinner and walking through some shops. It was such a fun place! The atmosphere is so inviting, and decorated so cool. I loved the long couch set up, which was perfect for conversation. The decor is different and hip, and the bartender was super friendly. We had their signature blood orange margarita, and it was fantastic. I would love to visit again

Given the generally good reviews and the length of time this restaurant has been around, I can only surmise that we ordered the wrong thing because our food was really average. In fact, I sent back the tomato and watermelon salad because the tomatoes were so mushy and mealy as to be inedible. (I can't even believe the kitchen sent them out!) The waiter was good and attentive and removed the salad from the bill. As an appetizer, we ordered the smoked salmon tostadas. There were three large tortilla wedges with fresh smoked salmon and pico on top. OK, but not great. I guess I wasn't expecting them to be cold. My hanger steak with wild mushrooms and chimicurri sauce was done perfectly medium rare, but didn't have a good grilled flavor. Instead, it was overwhelmed by the mushrooms and sauce. My husband's hamburger was good, but dry because he said they probably used meat with lower fat content. (To be fair, he ordered it medium well.) There were several large tables of people who seemed happy with their orders and we did see some that looked pretty good, so I can only guess that (since we hadn't been there before) we just ordered the wrong things.

I enjoyed the ability to grab a drink before dinner while waiting for a table. The food was priced higher than deserved--IMO

Bench-style seating, lots of unusual decor, and ceiling to floor drapes...with the waitstaff in pearl snap shirts! This place is really fun & unusual, with a wide variety of food choices. For starters, there is an amazing popcorn (yes, popcorn) with truffle butter and black pepper as a "freebie"...it's unusual and delicious! The Man Friend and I split the roasted tomato soup (I wasn't a fan...too sweet!) and each ordered an entree...ribs with bacon mac & cheese (SO good!) for him and the BuffaLoaf (buffalo meatloaf, equally as tasty) for me. We REALLY wanted to get the s'more dessert, but a half order contained the makings for 6 and we just didn't have enough room left. But there is always next time...!

I looked up best chicken Fried steak & Tillmans was in the Top 3. We decided to go here because we had family in from Boston & wanted to give them good food & atmosphere. The Bishop Arts District has done alot of improvement, which makes Tillman's even even a better choice. Good food, good service. Chicken Fry was good & Chicken & Waffles was the best Ive ever had.

The fries appetizer were excellent. All fresh..not frozen. Meal was excellent. When they say chicken fried steak...they mean STEAK .... Not ground steak .. But chunks of steak. Mashed Potatoes were excellent. S'mores for dessert. What an excellent idea. Homemade marshmallows and graham crackers. Awesome!! The blood orange margarita was soooo good!!

I visited Tillman's a few months ago, but it was so noteworthy I wanted to make sure I got a chance to review it. Tillman's is located in Bishop Arts in Dallas. The area is interesting and Tillman's is a gem within it. The menu was really varied and it was hard to decide. We ended up sharing the chicken and waffles and the eggs benny. We chased these brunch entrees with blood orange 'ritas. The food was so good I just didn't want it to end. Both entrees were perfect. Next time I'm back in Dallas, I will definitely return here for brunch.

They were wonderful giving us free kettle chips (instead of the traditional chips and salsa you would expect from a spanish joint). The decor was cute. The banquet room looked like a forest! Definitely a great place for lunch.

We stopped into Tillman's for one of their Blood Orange Margaritas and a Mohito. They brought out a bowl of popcorn that was the best I have ever had! Seems that they combine butter and truffle oil and pepper. We did not have time to have dinner, so settled for appetizers. Food was good and the service was great. The restaurant is in the Bishop Arts District, and is a good end of the day place to go--but go a bit early before the shops close!

We arrived cause everything else in the area was packed. That should if told us something right off the bat. We sat at the bar because there was a 30 minute wait for a table as 7 were open. We sat down bartender was nice, ordered brisket and biscuits, tater tots and steak and eggs. He forgot to order the steak and egg but served the rest if the food. The biscuits were rock hard, brisket was cold and so was the red eye gravy. Tots were soggy. The bartender was apologetic and bought us another round while we waited for the steak we almost cancelled the order but I'm glad we didn't. Was completely worth it, eggs were over easy, steak was perfect medium warm not hot and the potatoes were spicy. Really enjoyed how it ended but no manager came by to check on the problem. It's easy to see why when every where has a hour plus wait they have immediate seating. I wouldn't return nor recommend as they have a food temp problem. The interior is very eclectic and cool just hopefully someone brings it back to quality.

I was on a business trip and was told to try this place. It was restaurant week. $35 a person for 3 course meal. It was explained to me as southern home cook food. This was southern food with an upscale twist. Each table is given popcorn as a starter. I had the chick fried steak which was a battered steak. It was great. We had a child and his food came out 20 minutes after the stilts food. I thought it was a little pricey.

We visited Tillman's Roadhouse for the first time on the recommendation of a family member. We had a reservation (thru Open Table) but arrived early. We were offered seats in the lounge/bar area but not offered drinks while waiting. After 15 minutes we were shown our table and offered drinks and menus. We ordered a pear salad and the Trio of Fries (described extensively in prev posts.) After another fifteen minutes were notified that the pear salad was unavailable. In my experience as a waiter, you must know the evenings specials and what is not available. The Trio of Fries was very good but not as hot and crispy as I would have hoped. The chili dusted purple fries were our favorite. For entrees we tried the Chicken Fried Steak, Cedar Planked Halibut, Venison Frito Pie, and "T" Burger. The CFS was a nice piece of tenderloin lightly battered in a peppery crust served over mashed potatoes and haricots verts. This was very enjoyable but none of the food was hot. The burger was a hit, Unfortunately the halibut was overcooked and dry. The venison frito pie was served without fritos and the waiter never checked to see if the food was prepared properly. I came with great expectations. The menu was so interesting and appealing. Unfortunately poor service and inconsistent food preparation will lead me to make a different choice next time I'm in the Bishop Arts district.

Rustic raw wood walls, crystal chandeliers, and truffle popcorn. What?? It all works though: warm interior, comfort food with an upscale twist, craft cocktails. It's a winning combination!

A large group of us went for a birthday party. It was a Friday night, and the place was packed and noisy. A couple of people ordered the short ribs and enjoyed them. Most of us ordered the famous chicken fried steak. Mine was very good (three big pieces) and was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the food runners started screwing up and delivering entrees to the wrong people. I was lucky; my steak was cooked and served medium rare. Others who asked for more rare than medium rare were served medium well. They were less impressed. My side of mashed potatoes were fine (ordinary) and the green beans had small cubes of bacon as well. I would not select this restaurant for a return visit. However, if someone invited me to dinner, I certainly wouldn't object.

We had eaten at Tillman's Corner a number of times before it changed to the Roadhouse and always enjoyed it. Our visit to the Roadhouse was somewhat disappointing. It was a Thursday evening and the service and food seemed to have a mid-week personality about it. The Trio of Fries were not hot and appeared to be remnants of the batch. The mac and cheese with the ribs although filling lacked flavor. The ribs were not up to par with what one would expect of all the rib joints in the DFW area. The burger was typical accompanied with tator tots which were really soggy. A complaint and request for fries was accomodated although we were charged for them. I too felt the prices were out of line for for the quality however that may be the Bishop Arts District surcharge!

Chicken fried steak is absolutely amazing as is eggs Benedict. Never had a bad meal here. Highly recommended

Definitely a place to eat at in Bishop Arts District. Highly recommend Tillman's for the ambiance, food, and location.

Goat cheese tater tots and birthday cake--need I say more??

The decor at Tillman's is eclectic, upscale, and yet casual. The food was excellent, as well as the unusual cocktails. The menu is varied and very affordable. The protions aren't huge, which is a welcome change. They're just right. Things we liked in particular were the shrimp and grits, bacon mac 'n cheese, the steak, and the burger (which WAS large). The dessert was extra fun - s'mores for the table. Little burners to roast your own marshmallows, and of course the "fixins". I definitely recommend this place.

Different menu and our group of 6 picked different items and nobody was disappointed. Good service, fun atmosphere in a good and growing part of Oak Cliff. Give yourself some time to walk around and look at the interesting shops in the area.

Went for lunch, the waiter was very good. The food was absolutely amazing! It was wonderful. We got the ribs and they were fall off the bone amazing. Probably the best I have ever eaten. It was not crowded at all. I really recommend this

We took our out of town relatives last Thursday, July 6, 2017 to Tillman's. A few of us ordered fish and a few chose the chicken fried steak. While the wait staff and management were great and the place still has it's charm....the food was very average. Actually the chicken fried steak should have been a lot better. At 8:00 on a Thursday evening there were only three other parties in what used to be one of the hottest spots in Bishop Arts. The chef came out twice to make sure that things were okay. I probably won't choose Tillman's again nor take anyone there for a special evening.

I visited Tillman's Roadhouse recently with friends. It was my first time but I had heard good things about this restaurant. I was not disappointed. We ordered the Trio of Fries as an appetizer - and it was great. There were three very different types of potatoes - blue Peruvian, kennebec and sweet potato each with its own very distinctive seasoning. Delicious. I had the corriander and cumin crusted tuna for dinner. It was delightful, perfectly prepared seared tuna on a bed of wonderful relish that was different from anything I've ever had before. The service was very good and the atmosphere is great. Recommended.

I went for lunch yesterday and this was my first time here. I will start off with the service. Our waiter/bartender was awesome. He was on top of drink refills, and suggested things off the menu for us to try. I had the blood orange marg and also the low country. I prefered the low country and I am not even a bourbon fan! They bring you house chips and those were very tasty. I decided to order the truffle goat cheese tots w a garlic aeoli. I also asked for a side of the housemade ketchup. Both the aeoli and the ketchup were delicious. The tots were very greasy. I wasnt expecting that, but assuming bc they were fried and then adding the goat cheese to the mix? The flavor was good, but I dont think I will order them again because of the grease. I then ordered the shrimp and grits as the suggestion from the waiter. The shrimp were cooked great, and the grits had a different taste to them. It also had maybe a chili oil drizzled on it? I could have done without that as my belly was already a grease pit with the tots lol! There was an advocado creme sauce on the shrimp that was to die for. We also ordered the table side s'mores. Everything is housemade. It is served with dark chocolate and 3 flavors of marshmellow. Regular, Orange and Coffee. I think this (besides the drinks) were my favorite part of the meal! I do plan on going to this restaurant again for dinner, but I think I will try the fries and another dish for dinner.

I have to admit, we hadn't visited the Bishop Arts District in years till this past week. Wow, what a change and turnaround for this neighborhood. While in Bishop, we took the opportunity to have supper at Tillman's Roadhouse. We LOVED IT. The service was fantastic. The food was outstanding. We had to stop ourselves from making a meal of the pre-appetizer popcorn (lightly dressed in a pepper and truffle oil spritz). Across our group - we ordered steak (fantastic taste), gourmet chicken fried steak (it looked wonderful) and a venison pie. When the food arrived, the conversation ceased and didn't resume until the table was cleared. Hat's off to folks at Tillman's; well done.

This is our go-to brunch spot on Sundays. Never crowded and the food is always amazing. Service is friendly and we never feel rushed.

My fiancé took me here this weekend for an early dinner. We arrived about 5:30. They told us all their tables were reserved, so offered us patio seating (way too hot) or a small table in the bar area. Perhaps there was a big party coming in later, but by the time we left, over half were still open. If we go back, we’ll have to plan a little better. Their bar tables aren’t perfectly flat (like a slide of a tree trunk) and are really tiny --- was very tight to manage beverages and entrees for 2. That’s probably the only thing that brings my 5 star experience down to a 4. Let’s start with the décor. Once you walk in, you know you’re someplace different. Walls are all light wood with carved busts (not sure what else to call them) of various game animals. It’s definitely unique. Big crystal chandeliers make quite the contrast. The décor alone made it a fun place to be. When you first sit down, they bring warm peanuts (already shelled) and truffled popcorn. I could have eaten just the popcorn! It was excellent --- not sure I’ve ever had anything like it. We started with their trio of fries. The parmesan fries were the best. Sweet potato were also good, but would have been better if they had been a little crispier. Their homemade horseradish ketchup and aioli were both excellent (although the parm fries didn’t need either). I had the grilled pork chop. It’s a bone in pork chop that was almost an inch and a half thick. I ordered it medium well and it was cooked to perfection. It was nicely done on the outside, and cooked (very juicy) perfectly all the way through. I don’t usually fight with bone in items in restaurants, but this was so worth it that I’d do it again! It came with goat cheese grits, which I loved (and I’m not a grits person), and tempura green beans. I also tried my fiance’s steak. I think it was a special – basically a large cut like a filet --- also really good, although a little tough in spots. Service was excellent --- our waiter was helpful and friendly. Every member of the waitstaff that walked by our table and saw that water / tea was getting close to ½ full stopped and refilled us. So many places are getting to where if you aren’t at their table, they don’t care, so it was very refreshing to see this! I’d definitely go back for the pork, and saw a few other things I’d like to try.

We made reservations and it we got there on time. The place has a very nice ambiance. I had a Blood Orange Margarita's which was good but on the weak side, Second one was even weaker. We got the Trio of Fries and the Goat Tatar Tots. I was not super excited about either. It seemed that the fries where like the leftover small pieces vrs real fries. Not sure. Just not that great for how much we paid. Then the Goat Cheese Tatar Tots where ice cold in the middle. Not sure if that was intentional. My husband got the ribs and he liked them. I shared the Chicken Fried Steak with my friend. It was pretty good. Then we got the table side smores. It was cool in theory and I liked making smores but to me something was off. Maybe it was the marshmallows or something but I did not love it the taste as much as I had imagined in my mind. Overall the experience was good. We where served quickly. I had envisioned something more I suppose.

Went here to see if it was a possibility for brunch. We didn't get past coffee because the service and menu were not attractive!

Had a great time, our party had the pork chops, the ribs, and the country fried steak. The CFS was wonderful! Homemade and deep fried but not like some old hard piece of meat, seem to be made fresh and just melted in your mouth. That could of used a bit more seasoining but just my take. The CFS was the weakest of the 3 dishes, the ribs had a smokey char to them, they were alreay spilt and stacked on the plate like a tower (half slab?) just enough meat great tasting. The pork chop was cooked perfect and wonder flavor to them not oversized thick and is worthy of any high end top restaurant. Next time in Dallas area we would return.

We went to Tillman's for Valentine's Day dinner, and we were quite happy with the results. This is a place to go with a group, since there's quite an atmosphere - lots of Texas kitsch, lively, and fun. Not that couples won't enjoy themselves, but there are multiple elements that ramp up the fun factor. Really interesting menu - definitely not cookie-cutter or chain restaurant. Three of us had possibly the best steak we've ever had - just excellent beef and correctly cooked to order. Sides are sort of a mixed bag - I wasn't that impressed with the fries - we had the trio appetizer, plus I had them again with my steak. There wasn't much of a crunch factor, which I like in a French fry. We didn't get dessert because we were stuffed, but the ones I saw on other tables looked scrumptious. We enjoyed chatting with Sara Tillman, the owner, for a while - she's so down-to-earth and really keeps her eye on things. Servers and others tending to tables are prompt and attentive, and we enjoyed ours - Carlos. Located in the middle of all the bishop Arts shops, an outing to Tillman's will make you happy, happy, happy.

Went here per recommendation of a Dallas native and it exceeded our expectations! We went on a Friday during lunch time and there wasn't a wait at all which was great for us since we had our children with us (ages 3 and 1). Service was excellent, food was superb and our overall experience was great! We will definitely come back here at our next visit!

Brunch today was an absolute disaster from start to finish. My boyfriend, best friend and I ordered the following. Water.. Had to remind the staff three times just to get an pour of water Mimosas.. Waited over 30 minutes and didn't get the entire serving when they finally decided to run our order which we had been staring at for 25 minutes French Fry Trio.. Fries were good but had to ask twice for the dipping sauces Tomato Salads.. Had to send it back because they were missing the pesto and the staff couldn't figure out how to bring that Texas Toast.. Had to send back (how do you mess up toast??) Seasonal Fruit.. They actually managed to get this one right Eggs Benedict.. It was cold and the eggs were hard boiled.. The portions were small and was missing half the sides that were listed on the menu Biscuit side.. They managed to deliver this but he was to remind them to deliver condiments Check.. Had to send this back TWICE because he kept charging us for things we didn't order Bathrooms.. See picture attached. I feel the photo of the overflowing toilets (both men and women's flooded) pretty much sums up our entire experience If after all this you are still down to try this place, then I wish you luck. Perhaps today was an across the board off day. This tripster is never planning to go back.

We are a large group of seniors that visit a different restaurant every month and Tillman’s was our December restaurant!! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly 👏👏👏. A few of us had their bone in pork chop with asparagus and thoroughly enjoyed it. A few had chicken fried steak and also enjoyed!! A few had quail that they said was very tasty and another person had a burger that he said was delicious!! We have been doing this for 10 years now and Tillman’s Roadhouse is one I’m sure people will go back on their own😀😀😀

Although we had reservations for four we were put at a terrible table at the front enterance for 6+ that all entering smacked with the door. When we asked to be moved, at 6:30 on a Wednesday, with at least 4 other suitable tables empty I could see, we ended up being reseated at makeshift drink tables next to the servers bar. The look of disdain on the "greeter's" face when we dare asked to be moved said volumes. I knew in advance that many restuarants in these reclaimed downtown Dallas art and exhibit districts cater to alternate food styles and ingrediants, so I was actually looking forward to it as the unique meal before attending a unique concert at the also reclaimed Kessler Theater. I had looked at the menu online before even leaving the house so I knew what to expect..or so I thought. Seeing 1st hand their attempted execution, I don't think this place knows what it wants to be, so it tries a bit of everything and tries too hard, thus, nailing nothing; Being in the Bishop Art's District, which itself 200 feet away in all directions from crack houses and muffler shops (sometimes both in the same place), you've got to applaud any effort to better the area. But this place features semi-foo foo versions of "regular" dishes (burger, chicken, seafood) that were overall OK+, even if you weren't exactly sure what you were eating or why a "better" version of it needed creating... I mean who even asked for Goat Cheese Tator Tots to be invented in the first place?? I had to try them...once. When you order fries, you get three "different" styles of fries, with dipping sauces you had to ask what they were in advance-all the while unsupervised kids are screaming and playing in a makeshift play arear next to the serving bar... Again, the actual food was OK+, but the presentation was poor at best and dismal at worst. Our service wasn't particularly slow, but that was because we had to as for EVERYTHING, including silverware for all four of us, drinks (!) when our waiter would walk by or up to the said server's bar we were seated next to. I don't get it-maybe there's been a change in staff or on sight management that needs addressed, but that was my problem once-now it's theirs ongoing. Memorable only for remebering not to go there next time...

Enjoyable Sunday Brunch. I had the huevos rancheros, not typical but excellent flavor. They have crisp tortillas, beans, brisket, pepper jack cheese and fried eggs all stacked. This plate was very good. Wife and daughter had waffles and fried chicken which they said were also excellent. Good Bloody Mary (I requested spicy) and Mimosas.

I tried to pick carefully since I didn't have much time in Dallas, but this place was a miss. It was noisy and I was seated in a corner, so it as hard to get the attention of the servers. I ordered the venison chili frito pie. It was served room temperature, although I am not sure if that was on purpose. I couldn't get the attention of the waiter to find out, so I just ate it. It was pretty gross. They did give me a free beer since I had to wait a long time for the check, so that was nice. But the cost of the meal was still pretty outrageous. I really wouldn't go back-- that the cold venison frito pie overshadowed the rest of the delicious food I ate while in Dallas and I sometimes have nightmares about it. P.S. If one calls something frito pie one should actually use fritos, I think, unless the homemade version is more delicious than the store bought product. These homemade ones were not more delicious than the store bought product.

Totally enjoyed this place with great friends. Ordered chips and peppers to start. I thought they were excellent. Our entrees: lamb, shrimp and grits, buffaloaf and flank steak. I thought the flank streak with mushrooms were was great. My husband's buffaloaf was great but the mashed potatoes were excellent. I tasted the shrimp and grits and the mac and cheese. These are awesome choices as well. For dessert, I'd recommend the smores. Great! The cookie was okay. It was not for me. Service was good and the wine list was great. Definitely will frequent this place!

Good vibe, tasty food.

In town for a work related trip, we wanted to try something different. We had a large party and made a reservation and were seated with no problems. The staff was so wonderful and went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. This restaurant is different and I LOVE it. We started with a few of the waiter recommendations and he was spot on. I had the chicken fried steak...to my surprise, it was not cube steak but an actual filet medallion that had been chicken fried along side the best green beans I have tasted. A few in our party had the venison frito pie (homemade fritos) and they loved theirs as well. Flat iron steak looked great too!! I've heard a lot about the s'mores with the homemade marshmallows and they certainly lived up to our expectations. Homemade marshmallows (coffee, orange, and maple flavored) were all heavenly and the perfect size after our meal. The atmosphere is great but the service made everything that much better. This place is well worth the money. Great experience.

We got right in on a busy Saturday morning but waited over an hour and a half for our food. The manager was finally flagged down and we were told they were working short in the kitchen. The food was great once we got it and the manager did comp the meal (but did make us pay for our drinks). We probably won't be back.

I went to Tillman's as an out-of-town guest not knowing what to expect. The concept of a fairly pricey roadhouse in an artsy part of town where the servers wear jeans seemed a bit odd to me. Overall the food was very good. Service was a little slow and it was COLD inside the back room. The cheapest menu item was a $15 burger, which was a little pink to be honest. Others said their entrees were wonderful and the smores dessert was amazing! I would still go back.

Sorry, I'm not that impressed with this area of Dallas or this restaurant to pay $25 for chicken & dumplings, $21 for lasagna, or better yet $36 for beef tenderloin. For these prices, I'll get way dressed up and expect fine service and not a "road house" atmosphere or whatever look they are going for. They do have an interesting menu and the food we did eat was good - but certainly not excellent. - or worthy of these prices. I live in Atlanta and can't think of any restaurant this over-priced. Seriously amazed at how crowded they are - must be a place to see and be seen is all I can figure! We spend our restaurant dollars a little more judiciously on this side of the Mississippi!!

We beat the noon rush hour, and service was great. Very attentive without hovering. Waiter took time to answer all questions. I had the chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes and poblano gravy. ($15) I had never had poblano gravy, and it was the bomb! One friend had Skillet Meatloaf ($13), and it was great too. Other friend had 1/2 handheld special ($8) which was a real value for the quality. To finish, we had the Tableside Smores, with 3 kinds of homemade marshmallows. It served the 3 of us, with leftovers to take home. Lots of fun making them at our table. Also, the homemade chips they gave for free were quite tasty. Many unique things on the menu.

We enjoyed dinner at Tillman's. Menu was very diverse. Four of us ate, enjoying chicken fried steak, venison chili, burger, and short rib. The truffle tater tots were a delicious appetizer, and the homemade s'mores a yummy dessert. Drinks were good. Only downside was price- dinner for four, with drinks, was $200 including the tip.

With a group of 24, we were seated together without much difficulty as tables were moved quickly. Smaller place but we were early-good thing as place was full when we left. Group had appetizers, meals from menu, amazing delicious desserts. Seemed that everyone was amazed with the prompt and professional service from start to finish. No problems. Filet was cooked perfectly to order, tender and delicious. Fun atmosphere.

One of the cutest little shop areas in Dallas, the Bishop Arts District has Tillman's Roadhouse which is a neat little place to go to for dinner; or really for dessert - you have to order the Smore's dessert, you roast them right at your table! Food is decent and the decor is a bit funky, but definitely worth a try if you're shopping in Bishop Arts.

Had the chicken fried steak with the pork chop sides of coffee goat cheese grits and shiner bock beer battered green beans. Heaven! Wednesday was 1/2 price wine night, quite the deal.

This was my first time at Tillman's. I w st with several friends and we only has appetizers . We had fried okra, macaroni and cheese and the Chef' Michaels trio of fries , "very good". The trio is : kennebec which has smoked salt and black pepper, the sweet potatoes fries with maple and ancho chile and the purple fries which have rosemary and garlic all of them very very good! And they serve the fries with three different dressings on the side. We also had the pop corn with salt pepper and truffle butter, to die for. The appetizers are big size good to share . I strongly recommend trio, it is some thing different as well as the pop corn . This place is in the Bishop Art Center. Have Fun!

First, the waiter. One of the most attentive, personable waiters I have ever experienced. He went out of his way to explain specifics about the wine and dinner selections after he found out we had never been there before. Second, the food. Everyone thought the meals were excellent ranging from two people that had the signature chicken, fried steak to the scallops that I had. Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience! Unique Texas decorated atmosphere.

This place comes highly recommended! I came recently with a group of co-workers while attending a business conference and if I come back to Dallas again I will definitely return. The service was top notch, the food was fantastic and the price point was reasonable. The food had a local/urban twist with a high-quality presentation. Thanks for making the evening fantastic for us!

Tillman's Roadhouse in the Bishop Arts District is a real find if you enjoy good home cooking. The shrimp and grits, barbeque ribs, and pulled pork were outstanding, plus the cornbread muffins simply "melt in your mouth". Mrs. Tillman greeted us the way out and thanked us for our compliments very much.

We went here tonight as part of a large group. The service was wonderful. The food was great. From the truffle popcorn to the trio of fries, to the Caesar salad,to the sea bass and then the s'mores - my mouth was have having amazing taste sensations. The chef came out several times to check out what was happening in the room and to make sure we were enjoying every morsel. Presentation was excellent! We loved it.

The Bishop Arts District is a MUST VISIT part of Dallas. I'm sure everyone else already knows that and I'm just late to the party. But a summer Sunday morning in Dallas is a very HOT place to walk around. My wife and daughter made it into Tillman's around 1 on a Sunday as the temperature was approaching 100. The atmosphere is very nice at this restaurant with a lot of wood and an artistic eye making it a very unique mix of old and new. We were oddly kept waiting at the front as the hostess had disappeared (I noticed that this was not the only time), but our service was friendly and they seemed to be having a good time with both each other and with diners. My wife ordered heirloom tomato stack, which was a good, refreshing meal and my daughter ordered the monkey bread and something else (hey! i didn't eat it). I ordered the pulled pork sandwich -- which was surprisingly spicy. Our service was good, competent and friendly. To top it off, we ordered their famous "Tableside S'mores." I am not a fan of marshmallows, but I was impressed that they had made their own imaginative marshmallows which had three distint flavorings. The graham crackers AND the chocolate were also made in house. The graham crackers were certainly the best I have ever eaten. As we sat through our luncheon refuge from the heat, we noticed that people were being turned away as they came in the door. THE KITCHEN CLOSES AT 2. There is no sign to warn you, so get there before 2 on a Sunday or you will miss the chance for a nice lunch.

The food at Tillman's is great. It was a bit noisy inside, so we sat outside. Brenda, our server thoughtfully lowered the volume of the music outside and we were able to have a wonderful conversation. Adonis was our other server. Both servers were efficient, fun, informative, and thoughtful. We also had a great conversation with Jeffrey, the owner. He stopped by to see how everything was and gave us some insight into the menu. Really interesting. Clearly a place where everyone cares about quality. SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! :-)

Have been here on several occasions (mainly birthdays in large groups) and have never left disappointed! Everything on the menu is fabulous and you have to order the s'mores for dessert! Highly recommend Tillman's!

Love this place! Been going for a few years now, and it keeps getting better! I was taken there on a date for my birthday, and, although there were birthday songs going on quite frequently around us, my date didn't request anything special for me. I'm not one to really celebrate in public ... FYI. The owner approached our table to ask how our dinner was going, and my date mentioned we were celebrating. A few minutes later, the wait team surprised me with one of their custom s'mores (must have!) with a candle! So not only were my spare ribs "fall off the bone" wonderful, the owner and staff went the extra step for not only me, but for every person in their house! I live most of my time in Mexico, so my time in the US is valuable to me, and this place is wonderful time spent!

The menu has a nice selection of interesting dishes. Our group had the charred ribs, halibut and a chicken dish. They had a special blood orange marg that was outstanding. Tableside smores is one of the signature items -- interesting idea. Located in the Bishop arts district. If the weather had not been inclement -- would have strolled around. Try this place when in Dallas.

Found Tillman’s when looking for a breakfast location in the Bishops art district for one of our “food adventures”. Parking is a problem so be ready to drive around looking or for walking a good clip when you do find a parking spot. Really, parking is bad not matter what restaurant you go to in the Bishops art district. Started out with Mama’s cinnamon rolls, they were soft and wonderful with just the right mix of bourbon caramel frosting and pecans. Moved on to the Omelet which we split, we wanted one with cheddar and goat cheese with mushrooms. It seems to have made it out to the table without the goat cheese and just a hint of cheddar. The eggs themselves were not very well seasoned and a disappointment. We also had to try the “Trio of Fries” because it was close to noon and we are on a food adventure. These fries are a must to order. The parmesan & black pepper Kennebec, chili-lime russet and bourbon sweet potato fries were great! As mentioned previously, the atmosphere is artsy but not over the top trying to be hip and cool . I would recommend the cinnamon rolls and trio of fries if you make it to the area as we have not been back to try the dinner menu.

I’ve been here countless times with my family!! such a great place for us. we can get a great family style meal and it tastes home cooked! good for any meal!!

My husband and I ate here before a concert at the Kessler Theater. We had a great meal, but I wasn't blown away. I think I was expecting more from the menu selection. Everything was spot on and we will definitely go back. The popcorn is excellent!

I have visited this place recently with a group! The Restaurant offers a wide array of food, from exotic dishes like Venisom, or Macarroni and Cheese, also BBQ Ribs... Very original place to eat! In a great place!

I had the chicken fried steak which is not a chicken fried steak. Its a beef tenderloin medallion breaded and fried. The breading wouldn't stick and the flavors were bland. It was very tender but not very flavorful. The portions were also small for the price. The wife had the Ribs and she did enjoy them and had no complaints. The place was also very cold. I know this would not be an issue most times in Texas but every time the door opened we got this rush of cold air. Had to eat with my coat on and heard other people complaining in the bar area as well. The owner, however was VERY attentive in increasing the heat I just don't think it helps much with the lay out. Once again, I'm sure this is not always the case. Overall didn't feel it was worth the price.

Celebrated my birthday dinner with friends at Tillman's after a recommendation from a friend. It was a great choice. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. We enjoyed every bite of the delicious popcorn that was quickly brought to our table. We enjoyed every bite of the trio of fries appetizer. When eating out, I usually try to order something different than my husband but this time we ordered the same thing. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite of our Chicken Fried Steak(actual thick pieces of steak that can be easily cut with a fork- no knife needed). I did use the knife to cut the steak on the next to the last bite, because I wanted try out the handsome knife provided. I don't think we left a single bite on our plates. It was that good. Our friends enjoyed the fish special and Shrimp and Grits. We enjoyed every bite of the S'mores which we roasted at our table. How fun! I am not usually a big fan of chocolate but the chocolate used in the s'mores made me a fan. Now I'm wishing I had somehow bought a few pieces to bring home. Oh ---the Homemade Orange, Strawberry and Maple Marshmallows were all very delicious. Hard to choose a favorite. Came home and immediately told our children how great our meal was. Already planning our next visit. I spotted many amazing plates of food being served to the nearby tables, but honestly it would be quite hard to not order the Chicken Fried Steak again. Ask to sit in the beautiful "wooded" themed room in the back if it's available. The hostess and servers were very pleasant.

We were taken here by friends one week day evening. It was fairly full even for a Tuesday night, so I would highly recommend reserving a table in advance. Despite some of the previous reviewers comments about service, we found this to be very good. We were left alone when needed and given attention when needed. The only issue we had was that the wine we ordered was not available, however the server brought out 2 others for us to choose from, so not an issue. We shared the trio of fries as a join starter, which were really tasty. For mains we all chose something different, including burgers, chicken steak and jalapeno gnocchi. Everyone finished all their food which i think is a good testament to how tasty it was and that the portions were a decent size, not huge but just perfect. We really enjoyed our meal here and I'm sure we'll be back.

Large group - approx 18 people. Quick to seat us and get us drinks. Polite. Food came out so staggered that I was almost done while some were waiting. I had ribeye which was not bad, but for over $35 I believe I could have done better. Beer can chicken, I heard from a couple was "okay"? Smore dessert was very good as was the jalapeno margarita. Again, not bad at all, but not great.

Had a late Saturday Brunch . The Omelet was Amazing, the Bacon was even better and the salad dressing/salad we had as an appetizer was just as good. Only wish they had this restaurant in Tyler. Absolutely amazing food and service.

I've had several people tell me about this place. It was ok. If you want to eat healthy this is not the place for you. The pulled pork was ok but had too much bread and too little pork. Everything is fried. The menu is not very descriptive so ask questions about the options you are considering.

My husband and I recently visited the restaurant after seeing it on TV and hearing great things from friends. The environment was nice and unique. The service was less than fair. He was not attentive and my water was never refilled. The fries were good but make sure you have 3-4 people with you since it is so large. The scallops were cooked perfectly but the whole meal was quite bland. More of a fall dish they serve year round with butternut squash. My husband had ribs that were cooked well with good spices but fatty. His mac and cheese was decent. we just arent too sure what all the fuss was about to eat here. We arent looking to go back. Over priced for what you get. I would rather eat Ruth's Chris for the price or Texas Roadhouse for the quality. If you go, check out the area - very cool artsy environment!

Voted as one of the top french fry must try lived up to its reputation. The food is tasty. Tried a zucchini caserole and paired with the fries makes one heck of a veggie meal. Drink mixes were also awesome, do try the margaritas.

My niece saw this place featured on the food channel. The food was very good but a bit spendy. The serving sizes are a tad small, especially the appetizers. The atmosphere is good and the service was top notch. The make your own s'mores with 3 different flavors of marshmellows were a treat for the kids.

So the other night I had a serious dessert craving and after some Google searching we found a restaurant in the Bishop Arts District called Tilman’s Roadhouse. They are famous for their gourmet s’mores! I love s’mores but I have never had anything like this! They serve it on a wooden platter with a little stone cup with fire inside, dark & milk chocolate blocks, cinnamon biscuits and different flavour marshmellows: pistachio, maple and candy floss. Their portions are massive as well so we stuffed our faces and then had enough left overs for the rest of the week! SO YUM! We have also been there for dinner and had their chicken fried steak, their ribs and some other meat dishes, all were very tasty! Great venue for a special occasion too! The service is also excellent!

We live in Kessler Park nearby and have been sampling Bishop's Arts District Restaurants for 3 years now. The higher end (nothing here is exuberantly Highland Park overpriced or making things bad by trying too hard) restaurants are Bolsa (half a mile down the road), Hattie's, Zen Sushi and Tillman's Roadhouse. In terms of food quality they are all good - Bolsa maybe best. In terms of atmosphere, friendliness, staff and overall experience Tillman's Roadhouse tops the list (although Bolsa is great also, just too many Yuppies on weekend nights with big cars). Hattie's is at the far bottom with a complete focus on the 'friends of the house', ignoring reservations and arrogant owner and service. We've been to Tillman's Roadhouse at least 5 times just last year, and every single time the food and service were perfect. The place is interesting, with a unique flair, bar and backroom. The main hall is a bit of a saloon with exclusively (wannabe) cowboys as waiters. The owner is an interesting woman who has been there making sure things are great every single time we visited. Steak, goat cheese tatar tos and quail are particularly recommendable. A brilliant idea is the truffled popcorn that every table receives before dinner. A gem in Bishop's Arts District, probably the most stable in term of quality standards in all aspects.

This was our first time here and we will definitely go back. The food was great. I had the venison chilli pie, it was very flavorful with a touch on the spicy side. I also tried a bite of the buffaloaf which had tons of flavor, moist, and probably what I'll get next time. Vibrant scene so it was loud but still a great place for casual dinner with friends or a romantic night out.

We arrived at Tillman's at 4:00 for a drink and snacks before proceeding to another event. The wait staff was so very nice. The food was excellent as is their signature blood orange marguerita. Highly recommend.

Reservations at 12:30, we were sat after 1pm and it only got worse from there. One server for approx 25 of us in our group celebrating a birthday. They ran out of pictures for mimosas and didn't seem to care or offer alternatives. By the tine my table got our order other people were paying their bill. My poached eggs were basically hard boiled (see pic) and my corn was chewy. The bill was incorrect with more charges than we ordered and took another 10 minutes to get corrected. On top of all this the bathroom was flooding and water was spilling out into the hallway. Not once did a manager come to the table to check on us. I will never be back, but I guess it could only get better !!

Popped in for a late night desert. This establishment in down in the Bishop Arts district surrounded by all types of interesting restaurants. This is on the south side of town by Methodist hospital. We had the apple crisp and the make your own smores. They were fantastic. The service was quick and the food was tasty.

Reserved the back room for a total of 20 people. We were seated quickly and sat at two separate tables. Room was decorated with branches and peacock feathers. Ordered heirloom tomatoes, trio fries, salmon tacos and tots for apps. I was most excited about trying the tots but they weren't anything special. I was actually more impressed with the house made mayos. Items were brought out quickly and the place was accommodating for our large crown but the servers could have used a little personality. They were very robotic. Ordered fish tacos. Wouldn't recommend. Ok but not great. I was still nibbling on apps and the servers took them away. Ordered s'mores and they were good - homemade marshmallows. Overall, can easily accommodate large crowds and great at serving large crowds but food was mediocre and servers were lacking personality.

We loved the food, the atmosphere, and the staff! The truffle popcorn as an appetizer and the s'mores dessert were both incredibly delicious! Our entrees were very good as well. Our waiter was friendly without being overbearing or rushing us. While the restaurant is a bit loud (making it to where you have to raise your voice to be heard by your companions), everything about this place is worth visiting again.

I hate to write negative reviews, but this place deserves some criticism. We were a group of 11 that came for brunch. The inside was full so the hostess offered to seat us outside so as to get us a table immediately. Some of our party had a plane to catch at 330 pm, so we thought sitting down at 1130 am would give us plenty of time. We placed our orders and didn't see a single server again for over an hour except when chased down for the coffee that was part of the order. When we asked on the status of the food finally, we were simply told it was coming. The server never once bothered to update us or assure us the food was coming or that they were running behind. That would have helped. When the food finally did come at almost 1 pm, at least half the plates were no longer warm. The chicken and biscuit was the same size as something you would find at a fast food spot, for $10. Not worth it. The breakfast taco eggs were runny and watery. The server never once bothered to check on us and we felt forgotten outside in the cold. This was not a pleasurable dining experience at all. When the check came we were double charged for one of the items and had to send it back to be corrected. This server needs to learn to attend to his customers more regularly, and the kitchen needs some extra help on the Sunday brunch hours. I do not recommend going here, especially not with a large group.

Tillman's roadhouse was a nice surprise came to Bishops for Hattie's they were booked with reservations right when they opened. Boo. However we came here and Brandon was fantastic. Texas toast (French toast) and the Poblano stuffed with pork, eggs, and gravy hit the spot

We had visited Tillman's before for dinner, but this time tried their Sunday brunch menu. We started with a pitcher of mimosas, which was cold and delicious. We had Eggs Benny (pulled pork and a poached egg on Texas toast with poblano cream sauce!) breakfast tacos and chicken on a biscuit. All were delicious. Service was quick, as the restaurant was not busy.

In the Bishop Art's District and just an average place to grab a bite to eat. The decor lacks anything to do with the type of food that they serve or even how the building looks...I had a bowl of Venison Chili with homemade little Frito puffs which was very good. Others had a Chicken pot pie version with Cheddar Biscuits and a Pastrami/Rye sandwich...Would I eat there again, No there is no reason to.

My daughter-in-law is a foodie and is always picking out different places for us to try when we get together. Located in the popular Bishop Arts District, the interior is very interesting and unique with both crystal chandeliers above and carved wood animal heads on the walls--a unique combination of modern and old west. We had already studied the menu online and identified a few of the items that we would not leave without tasting! We ordered two of their specialty drinks, a blood orange margarita and a sassy sara. The sassy sara is very sweet and rich! I did not taste the margarita but judging by how quickly it disappeared, I can safely say both drinks were enjoyed. My husband ordered coffee, his usual beverage of choice, and be forewarned, their "regular" coffee is flavored with almond and vanilla. For an appetizer, we decided on the truffle goat cheese tater tots and the shrimp n' grits that were chipotle flavored and served with spicy tequila-avacado relish. Cannot tell you how delicious both were!! The shrimp n' grits are considered an entree, but you must try them whether as a main selection or an appetizer. Four large shrimp were included, so it is perfect for a party of four to have an good sampling. The men in our party could not resist ordering the chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes and french green beans. The steaks were not your typical chicken friend steak in that they were very thick cuts of meat, and you chose how well done you preferred it. I chose the lemon pepper almond crusted halibut served with julienne veges and smoky tomato flavored white beans and I was not disappointed. This is probably the first time I have ever ordered white beans in a restaurant and they were really different and so delicious. My daughter-in-law chose the baby back ribs served with mac and cheese. Even after sharing her ribs with the rest of the table, there were still ribs left on her plate! Like a rib should, there was lots of meat that fell off the bone. We also ordered a side of the cornbread muffins with agave butter, which came with about 5 or 6 smallish-to-medium sized muffins. We could have easily eaten more of these! Very tasty with whole kernel corn inside. I think these are also a good choice to order before dinner, as no bread or roll basket is provided. They do however bring a small serving of some delicious buttered spicy popcorn to your table when you are seated. For dessert, we had the tableside smores, which were just ok. It was difficult to get the marshmallows toasted enough to melt the chocolate. Also, they provided an insufficient number of graham crackers for the amount of marshmallows and chocolate they brought out. I thought the dark chocolate had more of a sugar taste than chocolate taste. But the flavored marshmallow (strawberry, maple, and orange) overpowered the taste of chocolate anyway. Perhaps I was simply too full at that point to thoroughly enjoy them? The total, before gratuity, was $192.00, which was reasonable for gourmet-style dishes and the amount of food we ordered. We will definitely return to Tillman's!

Great food and good service. You will want to try the crunchy creamy tater tots and varied flavor fries as an appetizer. Ribs are out of this world and the s'mores are a must for dessert. You get to make them yourself (orange, strawberry, and maple flavored marshmallows). Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. Note: I accidentally scored outdoor seating - they don't have that so I gave them a high score so as not to dilute overall.

I've been here twice simply for the S'mores. You get housemaid marshmallows, chocolate bark, and graham crackers along with a cast iron fire pit for roasting the marshmallows . It's a very unique concept and the former Girl and Boy Scouts always end up instructing those of us who are novices. They have a full bar and a private room that you have to see to believe.

Overpriced and a little pretentious. Dallas has so many good restaurants I was a little shocked so many folks seem to like this place. I probably won't return.

Was taken here last night by some friends. Mid week thought we better book but no need no trouble getting a table. Loved the woodpile bar and total atmosphere of this Roadhouse. Food is all homemade and delicious. Service very attentive (probably due to low numbers) had the T Burger medium well, didn't want it to stop!!!!! Finished with the smores, all home made with little cooker to do the marshmallows at the table. Good stuff. Bishop Arts District great to.

I'm not sure if they have a new chef or new management, but I have not been impressed the last three times I have gone. The food isn't as good and the service can be hit or miss. It has a fun atmosphere, but with all the restaurants to choose from, I wouldn't recommend this spot anymore.

The food was quite good and the ambiance of the restaurant wasn't bad either. But the service really sucked!! Plates were taken from are table before diner was finished and everything was aimed at getting us out of the restaurant as quick is possible. A shame, really....

We were greeted by a cordial host. Seated, and waited for our daughter to arrive. Enjoyed a glass of wine and their truffle butter popcorn. Delicious. Dinner was a salmon dish for my wife, pork chop for myself and shrimp and grits for our daughter. All three were outstanding. Chef came to our table and my wife described how good and well cooked her salmon was. I would recommend this fine restruant to anyone who can afford it. We spent approximately $50 per person plus a generous tip. Wait staff was as good as the food.

My favorite!! Any place that starts you out with truffle oil popcorn for FREE gets my vote!!

Your momma probably didn't make meatloaf like this. After a couple of bites, you'll wish she had the recipe. A very tasty buffalo meatloaf that was moist and flavorful. The tobacco onions that were on top added a nice crunch. The mashed potatoes were very tasty as well.

The new chef has added some incredible dishes to the well known menu of Tillman's. The quail dish is a must try as well as the sea bass and the mussels. The new decor if very inviting and relaxing. The staff is welcoming and very well versed in the menu. We finished off our meal with the famous smores only now they have flavored marshmallows and graham crackers with a special twist all thanks to the brilliance of the new chef. Take time after your great meal to walk around and enjoy the Bishop Arts District and make and evening of it.
Great appetizers suoer slow servicd
This place had the potential to be great. Their goat cheese tater tots are sublime, and their decor is unique, but we had to wait over an hour for our entrees which came out cold. If they can figure out their kitchen this would become a must for weekend brunches
