Very delicious and nice atmosphere

By WaitingforRain |

The food was just amazing, and the restaurant was very nice inside, if a little small. I loved it. :) Also a great spot for solo travelers.

Just dropped in.

By K6KN |

We were in the neighborhood and hungry. Trip Advisor said, "Look up. Tin is just across the street!" Glad we did. Great ambiance, food and service. It was obvious the other diners were repeaters. I'd love to come back.

High hopes.. Turns out, too high.

By MrHobbs |

We expected more from Tin and we got a solid delivery...just nothing above that. Various dishes were tasted The chicken wings (drums & wings) Shaken beef Spring rolls Pork and prawn mango salad, not sure of the exact name. In summary the food is less flavoursome than other restaurants I have eaten at. Service was good, delivered fast

Wow!

By James A |

Great food, excellent value, we would have been in a queue waiting for a table if 10 minutes later. 2entrees,2mains,2glasses of wine+pot of green tea=$67us.

Very nice Vietnamese food

By Jake F |

This is a really nice place to get a casual meal. The food is very nice and quite tasty. As pho goes, this is a pretty good one. The salads are also very tasty too.

Bun Cha

By Ian W |

It's been over 7 years since I ate Bun Cha, although it wasn't exactly the same as Hà Nội, it was still really good and made me miss Viet Nam even more. Good choice of food, wish the Vietnamese coffee, had come with the authentic dripper. All in all, a great place to visit with good food.

Worth the visit

By TripBiting |

A simple Vietnamese restaurant with no other "Asian" dishes mixed in. Good solid fare at very reasonable prices. Great flavors, authentic, clean with a lot of local traffic.

Very busy, and thus a bit slow, but the food was worth it!

By Royce A |

Very good Vietnamese food, Very informal, a bit crowded, so don't be in a hurry! The food was some of the best I've had. Recommended.

Fresh and delicious Vietnamese near Moscone Center

By Muse0Fire |

Went for dinner with my conference team - I’ve gone many times over the years, and it never disappoints! The food is fresh and incredibly flavorful, the service is friendly and fast, and the family managing the restaurant does a great job. Especially recommend the Tin rolls, which have a lovely crunch along with a ton of flavor. This time I tried the turmeric marinated catfish vermicelli bowl, and it was excellent. Also extremely reasonably priced! If you’re working or staying near Moscone, this is a must for dinner.

Tasty tasty!!

By Roxie K |

Spring and Hue rolls to start. Both fresh and excellent. Friend asked to have the five spice chicken as a rice bowl, spouse had a yummy pho, I had pork shoulder on a rice bowl. All were tasty and nuanced. Attentive servers. That dipping sauce - the best, not too sweet. Line out the door when we left. Not a City secret.

Great Lunch!

By misopiso88 |

We were in the neighborhood, looking for a good lunch spot and opted for Vietnamese at Tin. Terrific tofu and banh mi. Friendly folks too. Highly recommend!

All We Liked Was One Side Dish

By AugustoMonteverdi |

The side dish--Sautéed Baby Bok Choy with Garlic--came first to our table, and it was really good. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. The pho was average at best, and so was the Hu Tieu Kho. The iced-coffee is sour; not even the condensed milk could disguise the sour coffee.

Nice place

By 700Wong |

Hidden n out of th way, tucked away in th south of Market area. Food is good; good options. They will make Spring rolls w/o th pork for ya; bok choy is tasty; portions r not too big; sandwiches r good. I wish they would separate th noodles b4 serving.... it was a like a soft ball in my ball, i had to break it apart. Parking is only street parking. U mayb approached by some of th homeless people in th area as ur walkin to th restaurant.

Fresh food, reasonable price, bit noisy

By Kimfamily |

Nice discovery. Very fresh food, busy place so you might need some patience. Prices are very reasonable. Good choice of appetizers and noodles, all very fresh, lots of vegetables. Young audience and a bit noisy but we would definitly go back there. Friendly waitress.

Out of the way little gem

By Feistygal |

Tin—This Vietnamese restaurant in SoMa serves delicious food. It’s two blocks from the Moscone Center so a good escape from conventions and trade shows. I had lunch there with a group of Vietnamese university professors and they liked it a lot, suggesting that the recipes are authentic. The rice noodles in the bun dishes seemed very fresh (not always the case in Vietnamese restaurants). The lemongrass-chili chicken was an unusual flavor, more spicy than the typical Vietnamese preparations. The prices were very reasonable and I would definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Excellent food.

By DavidNY11 |

We tried to find a restaurant close to our hotel after driving back from the wine country. We found Tin. We were not disappointed. The Vietnamese spring roll. It was delicious and authentic. I had the catfish in a clay pot with brown rice. And my friend had Lemongrass chicken. They were both delicious and filling. I would come back again.

Nice

By Andres E |

Nice place, very good service, really good bun, good but not great spring rolls. Nice atmosphere. Recommended.

Do Not Miss!!! Amazing!!

By BurgessMeredith |

LOVED this place, Inexpensive. Delicious. Ate there twice on our trip. You HAVE to eat here!!! Great atmosphere as well!

--- Phở, Gluten-Free Choices; Stylish, Tasteful Décor; BUSY!

By Godenar |

Tin is just a few blocks' walk from the Marriott Marquis Hotel, but make sure to get there early. We arrived around 6:00 on a weeknight and there were only a few tables occupied, but within 15 minutes there was a line 8-people long. Food was well-prepared. It's a busy place, very lively with a stylish interior (see my photo).

Tasty Vietnamese at a decent price.

By Ian B |

Two of us walked in on a Wednesday evening. Not too busy but clearly a popular spot. Friendly reception immediate seating near the window. Decor is simple and non-traditional in a good way. Good menu with dishes with noodles, noodles with broth, or with rice. We enjoyed everything we ordered however we would not order the Spring Rolls again (bland) and would go back for the Firecracker Shrimp and the Chili-Lemongrass Chicken. Service was efficient and helpful with total dining time being under an hour. I suppose we could have taken longer but they clearly like to roll people through. Considering it is a short walk from Tourist ground zero, the price was reasonable for the quality of food. As for the neighborhood, not bad but if not accustomed to the city, may get a touch skeeved.

Very good pho

By BelmontMA |

Really only one vegetarian item on menu, Vegetarian Pho, but it was very fresh and the broth was just right - not too salty or sweet. Pleasant place to sit. Not sure about the broken screen window displayed on the wall as art.

Intimate, Great Food, But Noisy

By Leonard W |

We were a party of five. Arrived at Seven. Waited an hour for a table. Worth it for the food, but really difficult to carry on a conversation. Very small restaurant.

Good quick fix

By Isa_R_Montreal |

Decent vietnamese food, not the best I had but quite good anyway. Would not make a detour to go, but definitely a good choice if you are nearby and look for a cheap while tasty meal. The lemongrass pork was very good. The main drawback is the location in SOMA, not very lively on an early Saturday night. The music was odd too, with old 1980's songs playing.

This is my happy place...

By Tenpenny_05 |

Stayed at a hotel just down the street and luckily stumbled upon this GEM! Saw the reviews here on tripadvisor and couldn't wait to try it. Restaurant is very minimal but very groovy. Not a whole lot of seating, so small groups are asked to share tables, which is ok by me. It appeared that two servers and a busser were taking care of the small restaurant, so service wasn't great but it definitely didn't need much more. Medium sized menu with standard Vietnamese fare. Both times I went I had the clay pot catfish and wanted to die it was so good. Medium wine list with good prices. Wish I had more time in San Fran so I could have tried the whole menu!

Pho Ga very good to Excellent

By Yung T |

This place is a gem! Found it after a couple of days stay in SF. Wished I found it earlier. I had the Pho Ga. I rate it very good to excellent. The pickled red onions (part of the condiments) was a nice change up. Prompt service and excellent staff. The decor was pleasant with soft warmlighting. A good indication of the food quality and taste is to look around and observe the cultural background of the other diners. If it's full of customers with same origins as the food dishes, it's usually a good choice. I was there after 9pm and got a table right away. If you arrive during the peak times, expect a queue! Sorry no photos taken. But I'll be back for more.

First time for PHO

By clampet79 |

Highly recommend, line was out onto street. Still seated and eating within 45 minutes. Great food, tried several items. Would have them all again.

Everything was excellent

By Prowander |

Everything about Tin is good. Very tasty food, dining room with a nice vibe and an extremely friendly and competent team running the restaurant.

Great Vegetarian Pho

By Swati G |

Went with a friend and had a great bottle of Italy red wine which paired well with our Pho orders. I added some heat to my vegetarian (possibly vegan) bowl with the accompanying table hot sauce. Our server was great. Would definitely go back!

Vietnamese

By Peter D |

Visited om 18 Sept. Had starter and main course, both beautifully prepared and presented. Excellent service, great value for money and most tasty and enjoyable food! Why do some Americans think the whole room is interested in their inane conversation?

good vegetarian food at reasonable price

By anon03 |

We loved the vegetarian entrees; tofu salad bowl with noodles, bok choy. The papaya salad was a little too intense.

Food OK, poor service

By foodie990 |

My friend and I went to Tin after seeing the great reviews on trip advisor. We ordered two pho bo + some spring rolls. The food was OK, food but nothing special. The pho bo bowls were suite smallish. Also, there was a fly on our spring rolls.. About the service: the person who took our orders was kind of rude and in a hurry, we didn't even have time to finish our sentence (adding extra beef balls to our pho) that he was already gone. Bottom line is, I would not go back to Tin!

Amazing vietnamese food, at an unbelievable price

By Indrajit M |

My childhood friend who stays in san jose, and who is a food and drink specialist and doesnt settle for anything ordinary, found out about this place when i expressed a desire to try out vietnamese cuisine as i have never tasted it. The place is small but located in the hub of the SFO financial district. This place is basic, the servers dont even know proper english but can understand, but it is the food that is of supreme importance here, alongwith a small but good selection of beers and IPA. Try anything from the menu and u will hardly be disappointed. A must visit if u r in this part of san fran.

Good solid place for lunch

By Yee Gan |

One of the best things about travelling as a Yelper in the USA is that you have a bank of ready made friends in each city! Dorothy C had kindly taken me to the Asian Art Museum on my trip to SF last year and she offered to expand my art horizons at SFMOMA this year We therefore looked for a lunch option in close proximity and Dorothy's friend, Ed U suggested Tin on Howard St. Despite us both starting at Powell St BART station, I think I took the slightly less 'colourful' route to the restaurant! Teddy and I recognised Dorothy coming in the opposite direction to us and she told us about some interesting characters and shops she had encountered along the way! The restaurant was busy with lunch service but we were seated quickly and the food came out impressively fast. Nice friendly ambiance providing the perfect atmosphere for us to catch up Dorothy went with a sandwich and I tried the Hu Tieu noodles in broth - xa-xiu pork, chicken & shrimp, ground pork in garlic-chicken broth. It was lovely and perfect portion size for lunch. Deep flavour in the broth with enough variety of stuff to munch with each mouthful to keep it interesting My limeade could have done with a bit more sugar syrup but was obviously freshly squeezed The bonus was the very reasonable cost - $10 per person Dorothy and I were fans!

Fab food

By L Ada |

Everything was perfect here and not wildly expensive. We came for late lunch. It was an easy place to hear each other. Tables are close but not too close. The food was amazing!

Outstanding food and so reasonably priced

By pcg123 |

We went to tin as a team lunch with seven of us. The bill was $113 and the food was so fresh and we'll prepared. It was like healthy Chinese food with all kinds of new and unexpected flavors. It's small and always crowded--thats the sign of a great place. Call ahead and they can tell u if there is a line. A Howard street must do, a block from Moscone. Such a better alternative to convention food.

little restaurant in big SF

By thegroovy |

Packed with with vietnamese. Excellent food and good service. Authentic vietnamese food like you can find in Vietnam, a must try!

Very good Vietnamese by the Moscone Center

By Vivian B |

This place is not long on ambiance, however, the food was very good. We began with a noodle dish called a Hue roll. It was filled with BBQ’d terrayaki beef. It was very tasty. Next we had chicken pho and tripe pho. Both of these soups were delicious. The chicken broth for the former was appropriately spicy. The chicken was all white meat and the skin had been removed. I prefer it served this way because it is not as fatty. The other dishes we had were called Bun Thit Nuong. This was BBQ’d pork shoulder, lettuce, lemon grass and noodles. We asked for chicken broth to be served with it. which we added to the dish later. It was a great combination of hot, cold, sweet, sour, crunchy and soft flavors all coming together in perfect harmony. All in all this was a very good lunch......Vietnamese comfort food.

Outstanding

By big Brother h |

We were staying nearby and wanted something other than the hotel restaurant. Tin Vietnamese did not disappoint. The ambiance is very casual, but the food and service are excellent. We were greeted when we came in and the staff was ready to handle our every need throughout the meal. We started with Spring Rolls that are very large and very tasty. I ordered Pho Ga - it was a huge, delicious main dish. I would go here regularly if I lived in the area.

OK Pho

By The_Lombtinis |

We stopped by Tin after visiting Cellarmaker brewery in the same area. We were excited to have pho in S.F., because it's one of our favorite foods. The pho here was good, but not excellent. It was a nice affordable meal in a city that is pretty expensive, but wasn't anything special. The restaurant itself was a little run down looking and could use a face-lift. Not a bad meal, but nothing special either.

Small noisy place good for a quick bite

By Samosababa |

Went here for the first time. I had the soup and sandwich combo ( Banh Mi and Spinach soup). The soup had very little flavor seems like it was Spinach leaves with stems boiled in Water and some ground beef. The Banh mi came in a very largish loaf of French bread and there was not the traditional pate that adds some flavor. The Pork was good. Very noisy so hard to talk. Service is friendly. My colleagues had the lemongrass chicken plate which came with rice and veggies and another colleague had the shrimp rolls with peanut sauce

great night out

By DrKahless |

There is a reason this place is lined up to the door. The food is great and the prices reasonable. Went for dinner during a conference in town and were not disappointed. Biggest recommendation is to get there early as apparently it is packed every night.

worth the wait

By Emmanb |

As recommended in Yelp, we tried this Vietnamese when we visited SF. When we got there, there was a line (lunch time)and we didn't realize that we have to list our name in a piece of a yellow paper at the counter. Later, a waiter told us what to do. We tried the quail, pho and the bun tom -we are happy with the taste and the flavor. The service was quick and efficient. I like authentic Vietnamese cuisine and this restaurant fits our taste and our budget.

So Ymmmy PHO

By Juanita V |

I have a hard time finding really.good vegetarian Pho! Not the case at TIN. I highly recommend it! So fresh and Yummy!

Authentic Vietnamese cuisine, a la Slanted Door in surprising location

By Healthy94920 |

Tin is a small, kitschy Vietnamese restaurant w/ fab food ! Authentic flavors & dishes from my personal fav-"shaken beef" to Photo! The " shaken beef" was generous portion of sumptuous, cubed, ever so tender beef w/ the traditional dipping sauce you do not need; the mango salad-yum; the Pho- small bowl will leave you wanting more. Treat yourself to this "'diamond in the rough" @ a fraction of The Slanted Door but nothing compares to the original!

Yummy!

By gthroop |

Great service, delicious food and wonderful prices. I had rolls, greens and a Pho Ga when I felt like I was getting sick before work and walked out healthier and only down $22. LOVE this place!

Delicious Vietnamese food

By internationalMD |

Delicious Vietnamese food, reasonable prices, friendly service, great portions. Close to Intercontinental hotel and Moscone conference center. Great options Vegetarian

Simple and cheap

By club_y98 |

This restaurant was pretty small and lightly decorated. We had firecracker shrimp and I had the lemongrass chicken vermicelli. Both were incredible and very delicious! For 4 people with an appetizer, it was less than 50 bucks. Overall very good and worth a visit!

Horrible and Insulting

By Kadishay |

I just came back from this restaurant. Their service is really bad, and slow, I waited at the table for my entire lunch break, until I had to cancel my reservation. Of curse they still charged me for the appetizers. While they did said there sorry, they mainly focused on explaining why is the service so slow today, instead of offering any mitigation. And just blamed me for blaming them. The guy who seem to be in charge was obnoxious and just wants the money for the started, and prove me wrong. When I tried explaining, he just tepidly said 'good day sir'. Please do not go there, give you hard worked money to someone with better attitude who like serving and not just charging. P.s this is my first non positive review.

Very tasty food

By dartmanbull |

This restaurant is not in the best neighborhood of San Francisco but let that not stop you going. The food is delicious we only had appetizers I think we had all of them in the menu. The service was exceptional as we were there at closing, the kitchen was closed but they still cooked the last item. Try the papaya salad very fresh. The food was served with perfect intervals so that you don’t have too much food on the table to get cold. They have a pretty good wine selection. Definitely will return.

Okay dinner

By ItsStef |

I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese cuisine so I'm not going to comment on the food. I visited Tin on a weekday evening. The place was packed so we had to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated. There was one waiter covering all the tables (I'm not sure if this is a regular occurrence or not) so the service was really slow. Prices were decent, but then again, the place was more of a "hole in the wall" than a proper restaurant.

Amazing yum yum

By seahorse711 |

I've never really tried Vietnamese food until coming upon this place: despite my travels in S.E. Asia I never went to Vietnam. I've tried several restaurant in my life - but was a big fan until I ate at Tin. It Is one of those places that when you invited people that have never tried it before . and the food is served , their eyes light up. Delicious! The line is worth the wait btw. It really is that good, and for the price you can't beat a Michelin restaurant. My favorites are ; Shaken Beef, and the Lemon Grass chicken. Def a cool place to take friends too.

Very nice!

By Volker K |

Food was fresh, good portion, good taste and a very friendly atmosphere and service. I would definitely come back.

Hip Vietnamease Joint but with more reasonable Dive pricing

By Ben G |

Tin is a true find for a Vietnamese restaurant - the Pho is authentic and mouth-watering. The Pho Kho here, with a more savory broth, is unique. Hip and modern interior makes this a very fun place to go with friends or bring family and out of town guests. Only downside is the front door is usually left open, and on windy days makes the tables close to the door, freezing.

Not your typical Vietnamese place.

By Peter C |

We enjoyed our lunch at this SOMA gem. There's no Formica to be seen at Tin--instead it's nice wooden tables and modern decor. We ordered Hu Tieu (this was the best choice) and Bun Rieu (a bit perfect size with enormous chunks of tomato). Best is the fact that Vietnamese beer us on tap! A nice crowd enjoying a good lunch.

Poor service

By Mochi |

The food was good, just not the springrolls. Too little meat and shrimp. Service was bad tho. Grumpy men working

Excellent food

By Jeroen B |

The lining up outside on the curb already tells you something: this is a good restaurant. And indeed, the food is excellent. Rolls are recommended. Staff could look a lit bit happier working at such a nice place.

Fresh food and fast service

By Martina W |

Great food at reasonable prices. The place was packed during our entire dinner and there were people waiting to get seated. Thanks to the super efficient service everybody got to eat and didn't have to wait for too long.

Excellent Value Great fresh cooked Vietnamese Food

By superfoodieMadrid |

I tried booking via email from Spain and got an immediate and friendly message saying sorry but no reservations. So when I arrived in San Francisco I walked with friend 5 mins from the Intercontinetal hotel where we were stayin and stood in line. Meanwhile, the locals who ate there every week recommended their favourite dishes...and what great tips they were. Less than 10 mins later, enying the aromatic smells, we were seated, cold beers in our hands and ordering food. What we had not been prepared for was the epic portion sizes so when another friend from the UK walked in by suprise and spotted us we simply shared the food and still could not finish everything. All good, satff friendly and efficient and I will most definately return.

Very tasty

By Clark S |

If you're staying south of market, this is a really good option. Very very good vietnamese (I live in Minneapolis, we have a lot of vietnamese restaurants). Would very much recommend to anyone.

Just "OK"

By enjoyLIFE40 |

Checked another site for a recommendation by locals and found this pho resto near our hotel... it was a 3min walk and I was in the mood for good pho. The locals on the other site raved about this place... hmmmmm????? i didn't understand what the fuss was all about. The pho was nice but nothing special - the portion was smallish, broth was standard, ingredients were ordinary, presentation was basic textbook, ... the spring rolls were somewhat chewy. i think it was a safe choice as dinners go but there wasn't anything special about this place as locals on another site implied. the interior has a bohemian feel with black plaster walls, 1 large unisex washroom, and apparently a seating capacity of 49 ppl as a sign stated near the entrance (approx. 12 tables).

Pho Break in SF

By Rosie K |

Do yourself a favor and stop into Tin for pho and fresh springrolls, a nice break from the SF foodie overwhelm. You can have this wonderful fresh, light meal and still brag to your friends about this stop on your tour of the City's cuisine! Be generous with the chili sauce, your tongue and body will thank you for the warm up!

Near Union Square Tasty Vietnamese Food

By conventiontraveller |

Ate here last Friday night with friends after having passed it a few weeks ago. Small and nicely decorated comfortable restaurant with excellent quality food preparation and ingredients. It's on mission and doesn't have the gritty feel of going to the tenderloin which is the other alternative. Plus parking is very easy. Very fresh take on Vietnamese food if you're down near Westfield Center. I really liked the wait staff, they made excellent recommendations. We had four entrees and all were superb; especially the ginger lemongrass chicken and the braised pork. Dinner tab for four with beverages was just about $60.00 with tip. Good quality find.

Great vibe, noodle stew ok

By Phil A |

Close to Market and main hotels. Packed but v quick turnaround. Starter super - loved the papaya salad. Beer $5. Noodle stew main was good but not outstanding flavour after such a promising starter. Bill for 2 with 1 beer, 2 starters and 2 mains was $45. I would return cos service great, v friendly and starter great. Maybe I'll go for rice not noodles next time!

A little gem serving Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine

By DarlingSunshine |

Checked out this little gem. It's definitely worth a visit. Tucked away from the bustling Union Square, this place is pretty crowded. Arrived after 1pm, there wasn't a queue but the place is almost 85% filled. We got our table pretty quickly. The inside decor isn't fanciful but tables are closed to each other. The dining experience was deafening as patrons from next table was chatting loudly and the whole place was noisy. My hubby & I didn't talk as it would mean having to raise our voices. So we were objective and decided on quenching our hungry. He had Pho w beef while I had the dry noodles with grilled lemongrass pork shoulder. We wanted more but guessed the serving size would kill us both upon seeing what our patrons ordered.Order were taken in a swift, and meals were served promptly. The dry noodles were delicious especially the grilled pork. However the menu isn't very extensive, and they don't serve the famous soda w sour plum. 😊 Verdict: worth a visit!

Excellent Pho and budget dining

By James R |

We stumbled on this place for dinner. It must be really popular, as the line was out the door, but they turn over diners pretty quickly so the wait usually isn't too long. Anyway, the food is standard Vietnamese, but is fantastic! We shared mango salad and spring rolls, both of which were extremely fresh, and the pho is fabulous. Dinner for 4 was $70, which is great for this quality of food in San Francisco. The place is pretty small and packed, so maybe not a great place to take a date, but I would definitely go here with friends.

Tasty, fast and friendly

By Shawn Callahan |

I went here three times in one week and each visit was a pleasure of good good and friendly service. And while the food was delicious the prices were better than reasonable. Highly recommend a visit for a quick meal on your own (when travelling for business) or with your friends.

Delicious Vietnamese Food

By aggiedoone |

I ate dinner here alone when I was traveling on business and staying at the Intercontinental Hotel. This restaurant is a very quick walk from the hotel. I started with the elderflower tea, which was very good. The appetizer was shrimp and pork spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce. Like most spring rolls I've had, I found the pork a little dry, but the rolls were very good with lots of fresh herbs. I had the clay pot catfish for a main dish and I really enjoyed it. The fish was very tender and the caramelized glaze was sweet and salty. I ordered the "greens of the day" sauteed with garlic on the side. It was baby bok choy and was crispy, garlicky and delicious. Great service even though the restaurant was quite full by the time I left. Prices were very reasonable, and I would definitely eat here again.

A Perfect Find

By Graham |

We stumbled upon this place after walking a couple of blocks from our hotel (intercontinental Hotels San Francisco). This delightful Vietnamese place was just what we needed for lunch. It was a bit crowded but we were seated and served quickly. For a starter we shared a spring roll. My lunch mates had the pho and Vermicelli noodle bowl - both were good. I had the Banh Mi Five-Spice Chicken which was tasty - mine was loaded with chicken and a large baguette. Overall, we were pleased with our meal and would visit again.

Highly recommended

By amf5100 |

I greatly liked this place. The atmosphere inside was very pleasant. We first ordered the Hue rolls. They were so flavorful and tasted way better than I was expecting. I could have had a large stack of just these rolls and I would have been happy. For my main dish, I orders the chicken pho. It was light and clean tasting. The more I ate the more I liked it. It was a good pho. My husband ordered the sandwich and thought it was ok. I don't think he would order it again. He actually finished my pho because he liked it much better.

Awesome food at a reasonable price.

By LovedGreece |

Our waiter was great, we looked at the menu and he made suggestions that were a little different and I was amazed! My Pho, was beef and he said some people like it without the brisket just rare beef and I enjoyed it. The rolls we had, I wish I could remember the name but he changed those a little too. they were deep fried and contained pork. They were absolutely the best! I don't have Vietnamese food in my city so this was a real treat!

Surprisingly good, creative Vietnamese fare

By Nicholas M |

I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed this place. Everything we had was good...I think we enjoyed the beef salad the best. Service is great, though the restaurant is a bit small (I have to imagine it probably can get busy). From other reviews, I gather that some people have been disappointed by the fact that more traditional dishes aren't prepared the way they expect. I think if you go in understanding that, you'll enjoy it.

Great lunch!

By DrDebi |

FINALLY I was able to try Vietnamese food, specifically Pho. Great food. Great staff. Kind of a "hole in the wall" vibe. Excellent prices, especially for San Francisco!

Great hole in the wall Vietnamese

By Kalia J |

Came here after being recommended by the Concierge at InterCon SF. Was a Wednesday night but restaurant was full with a queue to wait! Food was great and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and efficient.

Best Vietnamese I've had anywhere!!! (and I've been to many)

By cmacf1 |

My husband and I were in San Francisco for a short vacation and like we always do, we searched for a Vietnamese restaurant. There were many highly rated ones to choose from, but Tin was the one we chose. It is in SOMA (south of Market Street) and within walking distance of the end of the Powell St cable car line. It's a fairly small restaurant on an unassuming and slightly out of the way street, but quite crowded. We were waited on immediately and both my husband and I were going to order the same type of summer (rice paper) rolls. Our waitress suggested one of us get a type that wasn't on the menu, so we took her suggestion. The kind I got was the first item on the Starters menu (I believe they were called Hue summer rolls.) They were absolutely delicious! My husband got the other kind (whose name I do not know.) He also loved his. We shared and both of us were commenting on how incredibly great these summer rolls were. They were hands down, the best I've ever had! For our main course, we both had Lemongrass chicken. Again, completely delicious! We had thought we'd have enough to take back to our hotel room to heat up for the next day. Nope. We ate it all up! As we were leaving, we saw that there was a line to get in (we had arrived at about 7 on a Saturday evening.) Apparently, others know about this wonderful restaurant!

Total surprise

By djordan777 |

I was going to pick up my BMW at the Euro Motors around the corner (great place if you need BMW work done). The Mechanic was closing up for lunch so he invited me to join him and his colleague. I expected some fast food place nearby, and was totally surprised to walk into Tin for the first time. It was Saturday afternoon and this place was hopping and there is nothing really around so people have to be looking for it. The service was quick and friendly and when I started eating, I could see why it was full. I had the Hue Rolls which were a blast of flavour with the first bite, yet they were light and a perfect proportion of pork, herbs, and wrap. We then shared the 5-Spice Quail. Another winner. We got two orders and devoured them. The guys also got noodles which were plentiful. My mechanic picked up the lunch before we got back to the shop for my 2,000 bill, but for a free lunch, I was super happy and will definitely go back to this place to impress friends with a hole int he wall find.

Not amazing

By Kate D |

I love Vietnamese food, however this place disappointed me. The spring rolls were bland. The bun cha was meh (i did not like the meat patties that came with it, and the rice noodles felt overcooked) and my pho was too salty and the chicken meat was dry and hard. The service was not incredible eather, one of the waiters straight up ignored us when we wanted to order, the other was a lot nicer however very clumsy and forgetful (spilt bear on one of the tables, only remembered my drink when i was almost done with my meal, after we called him). The soup somehow arrived last to the table after everybody had finished eating and were basically left watching me eat my soup. Overall an underwhelming experiance, i dont think this will be a place i will come back to.

Great Food, Great Value

Hole in the wall on a sketchy block. It's our go to first meal after arriving in SF. Casual, clientele from all walks of life. Great selection of beer and wine. Split a special roll whose name I can't recall, but it had a great assortment of textures and flavors. I always order some variant of pho. I let the waitress guide me. It was great with satisfying, fragrant spice. Lots of meat and spicy. My wife had clay pot shrimp and was too busy eating it to talk. Yay! Wish the menu was a bit more comprehensive, but excellent meal.

Hidden gem

Great little place, busy, we didn’t book, quick turnaround of people, tasty food, generous portions. Not the smartest place in town but a lovely little restaurant.

Hit or Miss

By Carol N |

I've had Bun (Bun Thit Bo Nuong) many times and this was perhaps the worst I've ever had. Whereas my sister had Bun Tom and her dish was fabulous. She also had sauteed baby bok choy and that was quite good too. Everything about her meal was great. However, the beef in mine was like overcooked "Steak-Um" - small dried up pieces of overcooked beef. The flavor throughout the dish was seriously lacking. No one ever came by to ask how our meal was, but if they did, I would have made a choking noise trying to swallow the meat. Choose wisely, because as I said in the title, it can be hit or miss.

A decent place

By chihchen69 |

I love Vietnamese pho so did not want to miss a chance to try good Vietnamese pho. This place is ranked very high online so we decided to give a try. It opens at 5:30 but when we arrived around 5:20, there are already people outside waiting. Within half an hour, the restaurant was almost full on a Wednesday evening. I always ordered the same dish no matter where I go, the rice vermicelli with grilled beef/shrimps. The rice vermicelli here was decent but not impressive. Given the price, I was a bit disappointed. Service was quick and the waitress had a smile on her face and pretty efficient.

Trying something different from american food

By Hao Pham |

We come here sometimes for lunch bcs it's near office. My San Francisco colleagues like it. I tried Bun Bo Hue n Bun Cha Ha Noi. They do not taste like the one I ate in Vietnam but it's not bad. Bun bo Hue is very spicy.

Good food, good service, good price

By Michael F |

We were early, and Tin (half of Tin-Tin) was quiet. The spring rolls were excellent, as was my beef pho. My wife had a dish with tofu and no soup and enjoyed it. The portions are large and invite sharing. We'll keep it in mind for our next visit to SFO.

LOUD but fun, popular and fresh food.

By tomjet3 |

Really great PHO, Bun Tom and meatballs. Server was friendly and efficient. Sat quickly even tho they were PACKED tightly on a Friday nite. Noisy but lively crowd and not annoying. Priced right.

Disappointing

By Antonin Šulc |

I had a huge expectations about the restaurant, but it turned out that except good service there is nothing that interesting. I tried pho ga and taste didn't have much in common with pho ga I know. Prices are great!

Very Good

By nekko8 |

We ate here around five o’clock. By six there was a line up. I had the Pho Bo. It was very tasty, but I didn’t like the meat. It almost looked pressed. The Ginger Chicken was very good.

Dynamite & Delicious

By BayouBear |

What an amazing restaurant, staff and food. After living in San Francisco for nearly 30 years one of the most difficult aspects of leaving the city aside from friends has been the food. When we return for visits it is always a treat to find a place like Tin and we were not disappointed. Aside from the quality of the food was the service and variety of the menu, we over did it just a bit but we had Tin Rolls, Papaya Salad, Grilled Lemongrass Pork sandwich and my favorite Hue Rolls. An amazing meal!!

Daily dinner from now on

By lemoncc1000 |

Great location, nice interior and amazing food. The pho is in smaller size which is perfect. My friend tried a salad without the soup, she is very happy with it too. The food seems to be clean and staff are nice.

Delicious Food without breaking the budget!!

By DavidNYC11 |

We came across this restaurant by chance. It was unassuming outside. The restaurant was quite small. We were lucky to find a table right away. People behind us had to wait for 10-15 min. We shared the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. It was delicious and authentic. I have the Clay Pot Cat Fish for dinner. It was very yummy, The fish and the sauce with brown rice just hit the spot. My friend had Lemongrass chicken which was hot and spicy and delicious too. For two, it only costs us a bit over $30. Very reasonable!! I would go back next time I visit San Francisco.

Hidden gem! Wish I’d come back.

By Annne81 |

Someone I know recommanded that place, and I’m very happy I tried it. I have my favorite vietnemese place home in Montreal, but Tin was even better! Staff was friendly and helpful, and food was awesome, very tasty and fresh. The papaya salad was very crispy and deliciously spicy, and the pork with rice vermicelli had an amazing grill taste.

Good food, good service, good vibe!

By YYZ_Voyager |

Was in SF for meetings in the SoMa area and needed a dinner spot that suited 4 very different desire - Tin ended up being a great choice! We arrived "early" and by the time we left the place was packed and people were waiting out side. The drinks and dishes took me back to Vietnam! The Pho Bo was great (although the broth was heavier than I prefer) as was the other dishes that we ordered. We had ordered the Mango salad as a starter but unfortunately it was already sold out, fortunately the waiter recommended the Papaya salad and it was amazing. Prices were reasonable and we weren't rushed out - definitely will return.

Excellent Vietnamese cuisine!

By sabuhl |

Very tiny restaurant with an excellent and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. All dishes are yummy. And as all is fresh and not ready made, the kitchen is flexible for changes, eg no pork in spring rolls. All food can be preordered for take away too!

Tasty

By Paul B |

Fresh ingredients, good cuisine, good price and good service. You don't go there for the ambiance or the decoration for healty food around the Moscone center, its very very good. If you like vietnamese food, go there for sure.

Wonderful selection of authentic Vietnamese dishes

By 01kitty01 |

The menu is very diverse filled with dishes that aren't available in many Vietnamese restaurants and very authentic to the culture like the pancakes (banh xeo or the bun bo hue). I came here with some coworkers and we all enjoyed our meal! We had the pho (beef broth noodle soup) bun Bo hue (lemongrass based noodle soup) and bun Thit nuong (grilled pork vermicelli) - all which was deliciously made and left our bellies beyond satisfied! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Great place for tasty Vietnamese flavors.

By eae3972 |

Went alone for dinner. Nice buzz and diverse group of customers although primarily under 30. Great appetizers menu and had a very hard time choosing so ordered four items. Generous portions well presented so made a meal plus out of them. Especially enjoyed theXiu Mai (meatballs). Each appetizer would easily feed two people. Quick and attentive service.

Great Pho Bo

By fr4gus |

Tried the Pho Bo. It was really great. I had to wait several minutes to be assigned a table, because there was only one person attending people. But once in the table, I got my beer and my Pho Bo really quick.

Best Vietnamese!

By DoctorBuckles |

It is difficult for me to find really good restaurants because I’m Gluten-Intolerant… especially anything Asian since soy sauce is a wheat/Gluten-product. However my friends in San Francisco had been hearing through the grape-vine about Tin and the great food. So, we tried it. We all didn’t have great hopes since my difficulty is always at best – difficult. Plus, it is even more difficult to get the waiter or chef to comprehend what exactly Gluten-free means. We were very pleasantly surprised when the very helpful waiter not only understood my needs, but went and got an ingredient review from the chef, returning to tell me what I could eat. We were all amazed, firstly at that, but then when our orders came… at how good everything was. I can never have Pho, but here I could and I loved it. I highly recommend it at Tin. Both my friends had other signature dishes and they were equally impressed. We all cleaned our plates and bowls. I say check Tin out before it gets well known and there is a wait, and too many people to still have the friendly and intimate experience we did.

I will visit again

By JinYim |

Prices are reasonable, Pho taste good and other dishes (forgot the name) okay as well (Wantang is so so though). Clean and comfortable atmosphere. Restaurant owner is nice and employees are good too. Its location is easy to find which takes about 15 minutes on foot from union square. By the way if you don't like cilantro, you have to tell them in advance cause they put lots of them in the roll for appetizer which I love the most. If I travel near that area, I will definitely visit again and will suggest to my friends too .

Authentic & delicious

By moements |

This place was a real find! Great, authentic Vietnamese food with fantastic service. The decor was basic but the food so incredibly delicious. There was a queue out the door so that says a lot! The tin rolls were amazing and the catfish clay pot was out of this world!

Average taste generous portions good prices

By Vegemitelover |

We ate at Tin as we needed some Asian food and it was near our hotel. Overall we felt the food was pretty average. We had the beef pho (needed a bit more taste - more chilli and lime) and a rice noodle dish as well as a spring roll portion. The portions were large and service was efficient. The crowd appeared to be mainly local/Asian; looks to be a popular favourite.

Perfect spot for some Vietnamese Delicacies!

By Manoj B |

Perfect spot for some Vietnamese Delicacies! We have been here a couple of times and this place just grows on you. The food and the service is amazing! May get crowded at times but the wait is always worth it. One of our absolute favorite is Bun Rieu (Shrimp, crab and minced pork balls, fried tofu, shrimp, tomato, chicken-tomato broth) along with the Hue Rolls (Grilled lemongrass pork, shiso, mint, cilantro, fried shallots, steamed rice noodle). Must try!

Glad we tried it, good food and service

By Jayhawk17 |

The food, service and prices were all good, really glad we stopped in and tried it. Good location, worth a visit.

Week night dinner perfection

By fitginger |

Our guilty pleasure. My husband and I are go here at least once a week for a week-night bite for dinner. Try the side- garlic baby bok choy and DEFINITELY don't leave without the spicy catfish clay pot or the lemongrass pork vermicelli. LOVE this hidden gem.

Almost like home

By TCoon89 |

While in SF for our honeymoon - I was craving some good ole homecooking and Pho was the only thing that would do. We found Tin from a quick Google search and we weren't disappointed. The pho broth is super flavorful and their portions are great. It's a bit more expensive than at home - but it's SF so we figured it would be anyways. It's definitely a small place so if you go at high time, there'll be a wait. It's worth it!

Tasty

By kccummings3 |

This is a very crowded restaurant but that's understandable. The vermicelli dishes were fresh and flavorful. My spring rolls were very good as well (and quite big!).

Fresh Vietnamese Dinner in San Francisco

By PaulT70 |

After dining on sandwiches and processed meals at the usual outlets my partner and I were blessed to find Tin Vietnmese Cuisine in the CBD of San Francisco. Whilst not quite in the CBD it was close enough to venture to this oasis of freshly cooked and tasty food. Quick service , good prices and most of all fresh beautiful food that brought much happiness to us. It was our best dinner in many weeks and am sure anyone who visits will echo our sentiments ! Thanks Tin for a great wholesome dinner !

busy and awesome

By Jennifer M |

We ate here for dinner. It was busy when we arrived--we came a little on the early side for dinner--and filled up shortly after. There were lots of people waiting. The food was great, the service was quick, and the bill reasonable. Definitely a winner.

Light and healthy with so much flavor~!

By Nancy46648 |

Tin is a tiny little hole in the wall. It is unknown to most people, apparently, as when we asked a bartender about it just a few blocks away, they had never heard of it. But we saw it on YELP and were in the mood for a perfect bowl of Pho. I loved the atmosphere, with large cylandric ball lights suspended in the air above us. The lighting is soft and almost dark, which I also love. Our server was so friendly and knowledgeable, he certainly helped make the visit enjoyable. We started with a couple of apps, one being a 5 spiced Quail. It was so flavorful and crispy. My dish was the standout of the place for me. That Pho I was craving. It was as fresh as any I have ever had, with crisp veggies and all the right side sauces for just enough spice. I dove in and could have licked the bowl. The wine selection was surprisingly good for such a small place. I had a delicious Gruner Veltliner which complimented my meal nicely. All in all I would go back there whenever the craving for Pho should pop up, but I'd also recommend it for couples as it is quiet and kinda romantic, in a low key way,

Wonderful food

By Rob_from_MA |

Had dinner here with my daughter while in San Fran. We wanted the spring rolls but my daughter is a vegetarian. They immediately said they could make them that way, and they were terrific. We each had an entree with outstanding flavor. I would go back again in a flash!

Amazing Selections Amazing Flavors

By FatHillTraveler |

Although it was a bit of a walk from Market St. we were lucky to get to Tin. My noodles with cooked perfectly catfish was a delight. My evil companion’s Catfish hot pot was, I’m told, well cooked and tasty We’ll be returning to try more from the varied menu.

Simple ambience...but tasty Vietnamese food

By Maricar B |

The place is pretty small and crowded testament to the quality of food they offer. Their five spice chicken and Pho Bo were a must try. They can improve on managing the line of waiting people.

Nice spot for a little for Vietnamese

By Derek B |

The staff were very nice and friendly. I had the Bun Tom, shrimp very tasty and the bowl was full of vegetable and noddles. Delicious! Will be back on my next visit to San Francisco

An inexpensive Delight!

By LikestoTravel |

Small busy spot a few blocks from the boring food of the Conference Ctr. I ordered the iconic Bun Thit Nuong. Delicious grilled pork, perfect amount of fish sauce and only $ 8. Shrimp and pork rolls needed more help from the peanut sauce. We made reservations on a Saturday lunch and it got busy right after noon. Busy spot, service staff efficient and fast.

americanized vietnam food

By rabbit |

The portion is good however it is very Americanized. I ordered a Banh mi, it came without pickle at all. I asked for extra jalapeno but no jalapeno. Lee sandwich is better and cheaper

Excellent Vietnamese & more!

By JulieSchultz |

Great food, cozy off-street restaurant that fits about 40 people max. The staff was friendly and you can't beat the prices. Less than $10 for a main dish. Vietnamese beer too. Will def. go back!
