The best patio in town

By Monita |

Pros: - Best patio in town - Heaters on patio - Parking lot right next to it. - Normal size portions Cons: - Menu doesn't offer many options. - most of their items have bread, but they don't offer any gluten free bread options. - The salads are the simplest and tasteless ever: just kale. - Waitress didn't do a good description of the plates: she said for instance the lamb was a 10oz portion and it was was jut 2 baby lamb chops....not even 5oz with bone. TIP: this place is more for having a nice coffee/drink at the patio, and then going for dinner somewhere else.

20 Minutes to order - something has to change

By mlclark03 |

Meet a group of ladies for lunch today at Tiny Boxwoods - it is a very nice setting but wow so many issues. 1. parking is a huge issue 2. I did not see any signage of the entry or even the name on the building 3. you stand in line to order - ok that's fine but are you serious - I stood in line for 20 minutes just to order - why don't they have more than one person taking orders! One server tried to get people to sit at the bar and order there, why didn't he pass out menus and ask if anyone had questions, because once you get to the counter to order so many people had to ask the girl taking orders stupid questions! the menu is written huge on a black board but even with that people would wait to look at the menu that was only placed at the counter where you order! I find this process so rude to the customers - will not go back

If Pinterest was a restaurant, this would be it!

This place has the best food, sandwiches, soups, salads, cookies! Everything on the menu is perfectly delicious! Well, I haven't had everything, but you know what I mean! It's so pretty also. It's set next to a wonderful garden shop and is just beautiful. My new favorite place to eat with my daughter!

Brunch for lunch?

By AUSAGUY007 |

This place gets packed on Sundays parking is pretty hard so you better get here early in the line is pretty long but the service is fast

Great brunch spot!

By Camille D |

I visited a friend in Houston for a long weekend & we were debating where to go for brunch...so happy we picked here! The line was crazy out the door but one of the nice hostesses asked if we were okay sitting at the bar (which we were) so we saved ourself a lot of time waiting for a table! The bar is gorgeous & a fun place to hang out for a bit. The food was delicious along with the mimosas. Although the mimosas were not bottomless (as some other places are) - it was still delicious and a great time. I can't wait to visit again and take advantage of their huge patio! Oh and their fresh chocolate chip cookies are delicious, too!

Saturday Brunch and Famous Cookies

By aethomso |

We visited tiny boxwoods for Saturday brunch. We were told to get there early and arrived around 9:30. There was no wait. The building is located on the corner of saint St and Alabama St, next to a nursery (garden). The ambiance is romantic. White linens and hydrangeas. Reminds me of a Parisian garden or Chateau. Since this was our first time, we didn't realize that service on the weekends is counter service. You order your meal inside at the counter and a hostess will take you to a seat (you choose indoor or outdoor). Dogs are welcome outside and there are several shaded tables. I ordered the eggs avacado and my husband ordered the bison burger. My eggs were delicious. His 1/2 lb burger was good but he said the homemade bun was not the best. The fruit was yummy (fresh and ripe) with pineapple, apples, watermelon, grapes and orange slices. Don't forget a homemade cookie (made fresh every 20 minutes). They are large gooey chocolate chip cookies. Definitely the BEST part of the meal (even at 9:30am).

New favorite

By BigDTravel |

Went for breakfast. Both of us had a cinnamon roll. It's big and is a meal by itself. They warm it up and put a tasteful quantity of vanilla bean icing. Very good. Highly recommended. The ambiance here is great. Very European in feel, at least to me. Large outside garden area with patio seating. Too cold when we were there, but will definitely go back next time we're in Houston to enjoy the patio. One thought about icing: I thought it was a perfect amount, but I can see where others may want more icing. Maybe ask for a small side of icing if you think more is necessary. Go. It was great.

Always crowded....but worth the wait.

By Carol Ann M |

Great place to settle in for a quick meal after Lakewood Church! Great food....eat outside. It is very crowded on Sundays.

Loved the outdoor garden space!

By GrandTour601724 |

Delicious food and great outdoor/garden vibe! Friends really enjoyed the Watermelon Mimosas and the Migas were divine! Also loved the Summer Salad. Highly recommend and we actually walked from the St. Regis.

Very unique

By motherchristmas61 |

Loved this ambience of this place. On a nice weather day you can sit outside and enjoy a garden atmosphere. There is a nursery and gift shop in back. It's very homey and the food is good. We only had a cinnamon roll for breakfast, it was wonderful. Bought some lemon poppyseed bread to take home. We did buy a chocolate chip cookie that pretty darn good. I would highly recommend for something different and enjoyable.

Just not the same!

By Margaret G |

We have been going to Tiny Boxwood's Café since it opened and have even hosted a large party there. Last night we went with our family and something has changed. The signature kale salad, which started my crave for kale salad many years ago, is no more. Instead, what came out was a plate of baby kale greens and a little dressing. I ordered for my main course, the fish of the day which happened to be snapper. It was okay but the rice was very gummy and there were quite a few bones in the fish. The sauce needed to be enhanced with a lot of lemon. The sides - both the sprouts and the cauliflower were nothing to write home about either. The sprouts were tasteless, reminding me of what my mother used to serve us and the cauliflower although spiced with curry, was soggy. I did not eat the pizzas but they served us the wrong cheese that we had requested. As usual, the cookies were fantastic but how can you mess up a chocolate chip cookie unless of course, you change the recipe. In short, my old stand by is no longer very good. Something has changed in the kitchen!

Yummy steak salad

By NolaGal_2 |

Daughter had the Cuban sandwich and I had the steak salad. Both were hearty portions and delicious. Finished with a warm chocolate cookie. Yum!

Have a brunch to remember

By vilvo |

This place is everything you can ask for a Sunday brunch. Couldn't find a word of criticism and that's rare. First, the place is relaxed, welcoming, classy, place was crowded with all kinds of people and the food is top in the class for mid-range price. My wife, our children and I just loved the food. We all had seasonal smoothies and on top of that we had club sandwich with turkey, avocado, tomato and basil aioli with fresh fruits side (me), steak & egg breakfast pizza with blue cheese (my son), homemade croissants with butter and strawberry jam (my daughter) and yogurt parfait (my wife). Me and my wife had also almond croissants. Everything is made of fresh ingredients and made on order (except yogurt). Turkey in my sandwich was the best I've had. Moist, perfect salt, excellent seasoning with avocado and basil aioli. I tried my son's pizza and the combination of tender pieces of steak, blue cheese and egg was great. Tried also house strawberry jam which was served on my daughter's croissant and it was really good. Tables inside are nice and the patio looked also awesome, people enjoying, even when there was some light rain. There's a large yard and our kids went around while we waited and took a break in the middle of the brunch. I encouraged my daughter to go outside because she said she felt a bit chilly after her cold smoothie and A/C inside while it was warm outside. You don't need to worry about sending your kids (8 and 12) outside for a walk because it's nice, beautiful, closed yard. Service is awesome - relaxed, natural and classy. I also loved that there was all kinds of people from families to couples and friends. From fine dresses to tees and shorts. Everybody enjoying their time and the food. We had a family trip to Houston over the weekend. On Sunday morning the question was should we have a hotel breakfast or go for a brunch. We picked this place from a local top 10 brunch places list. I don't know what the other 9 are but I could skip them to visit the place again. I know it sounds exaggeration but I would give this place overall rating of 6/5. Really.

Tiny restaurant, tiny menu, great food

By Mary M |

This is a great dining spot if you get there early. The seating is limited (more outside tables than inside), and parking is difficult - although they do have a small lot a block down the street. The menu is small, but the food is great - albeit pricey. We've been for both breakfast and lunch. I prefer lunch as it's hard to justify a $20 pp breakfast (when similar establishments are much less); the same price for lunch is easier to swallow. I recently had their Southwestern Salad; it was great, as was the service. Thank goodness we got there at 11:15. When we left at 12:30, the line was out the door with not an available table in sight!

Fancy Café - nice breakfast

By Fliegerkathi |

Nice location to have breakfast. You can sit inside or outside between flowers. Nice and caring waiters. Food is delicious. Tea made out of leaves - no teabag. :) There is no pricelist available. Prices are a little above average.

French twist!

By Backman |

We recently had lunch at Tiny Boxwood Cafe. What a surprise it was to walk in this beautiful setting with a nice grassy Courtyard and tables surrounding it. The setting is perfect. You can hear French music in the background and beautiful vegetation all the way around you. The food was delicious. The surroundings made the food even better. On the way out we grabbed 6 cookies to go. Those cookies are absolutely to die for! They will put you on the small sugar coma, however, well worth it in my opinion. French food without butter and sugar just is not French! If you can find your way there, please do. You will not regret it.

Perfect lunch spot when the weather is nice

By McKenzieReviews |

Great healthy food options and a wonderful garden setting. This location is best enjoyed when the weather is nice outside. And don't leave without getting one of their chocolate chip cookies- they are the BEST.

Snobby

By AUSAGUY007 |

Remind me of a la they're very busy but it seems like to they could do a better job with a and at least do a seasonal menu or vary their menu maybe they need to try out new and make the food quality a little bit better will I be back maybe if they change the menu

Great

By kelley34HoustonTexas |

I really liked the place - so much so went back the next day with more friends. The outdoor space is fantastic- they have fans, but in Houston heat it was still very warm. I will go back again but in the cooler months.

Amazing!

By 524samanthah |

Had a great dinner here! Went with a friend, but it would definitely make a nice date spot. The salmon and brussell sprouts were FANTASTIC, as well as my dessert, caramel cake with pistachio ice cream! Also had a delicious wine with our meal. Not an extensive wine list, but decent. Certainly not the cheapest, but I think it's worth it for a special occasion. They also had a very nice outdoor area with plenty of seating.

Delightful Restaurant!

By Therese1202 |

Tony Boxwood's Cafe is a delightful restaurant that was recommended by a co-worker. Tucked away on a quiet street the ambiance was absolutely wonderful! Service was attentive and the food was totally delicious. We chose to sit outside due to the wonderful weather but the inside of the restaurant looked really cozy too. Great place for 'date night'!

Europe in Houston

By JulieAG |

Most adorable eatery in Houston. Fresh menu and food with weekend breakfasts my fav. Outdoor seating with indoor tables a food bar as well. Food tastes like your mom made it just for you.

Brunch on the patio

By Betsy J |

A variety of breakfast or brunch dishes, carefully and artistically prepared. Some had a Southwest flavor and others were more "down home". Very pleasant atmosphere, on the patio under the umbrellas. Order food and then find a table; they'll bring it to you. They also host events at different times of day.

Long lines

By 3mlclark |

Long lines and unorganized ordering systems - food is good but not worth the wait to order and no parking.

What a gem

By glyncookson |

This little establishment attached to a well kept and well run garden centre is a wonderful surprise. Lunch was a delight and being able to sit outside (gorgeous day in Houston NO humidity) was a bonus. The food is excellent but well worth waiting in line for.

What a wonderful find!!

By djaungst66 |

Met a colleague for dinner on a Wednesday evening and truly was taken with the beautiful surroundings. Located adjacent to a stunning nursery, our outside table was just perfect. Dinner was yummy and service was good. Recommend the grilled artichokes to start and the snapper and roasted Brussels sprouts. Food was fresh, hit and well seasoned.

Dinner

By N4389XEmargaretm |

Charming and intimate restaurant with nice location. Little parking, no valet.Lovely at night. Food overpriced and mediocre.. Need new management, chef and dinner menu. They don't honor reservations. Not a good choice for family or groups over 6. Best for date night. Not a favorite in Houston with so many more outstanding restaurants.

Best kept secret in Houston

By Gary A |

This must be a little piece of heaven. The outside seating is marvelous with a large area of well kept grass, the beautiful plant and garden nursery and antique shops, private parking and easy access. Service staff are truly world-class, kind and highly professional. Food is healthy and has a home-made feel. Will back for sure.

Consistently Good

By John D |

Hard to decide which is better—the food and service or the ambiance. Consistently high quality for years at breakfast and lunch. The bakery treats are especially delicious! The staff is attentive and the crowd well-heeled. Wonderful dining experience at either Houston location.

Great Date Night!

By 2DB510 |

My husband and I just ate here this past weekend on a date night. The food and service were great! We started with the meat/cheese board, and I had the beer battered soft shell crab and my husband had the shrimp risotto for our mains. My husband also had a cocktail which was yummy (don't remember the name but it was gin with lemon and sparkling wine). The ambience was fantastic, very romantic lighting, smaller intimate venue, lovely music. The outside is super pretty but Houston summer heat is still too hot for us to eat outside. I could see the area being a great venue for a party or wedding reception!

My favorite restaurant!

By Finnian O |

Best restaurant in town. Wonderful ambiance and so nice to sit in the many outdoor sitting areas they have. Recommend the margarita pizza and the mint lemonade. I go just about every week!!

Unfortunately closed on a monday

By SPBran |

We've visited this restaurant before and were looking forward to another great breakfast. We arrived in the morning after dropping our granddaughter at school. It looked closed. Surely we're not too early? No it was closed all day on a Monday. Moral of the story- check internet before going!

too cute

By Raye H |

Cute little place tucked away next to a garden nursery. We split a lamb burger and a Calabrian pizza and the French picnic for appetizer. The lamb burger was delish and I recommend it. I also ordered the white wine mojito-definitely recommend it, reminded me a white wine sangria. The French picnic could be assembled at home but the bread was great. The atmosphere was very nice-we sat outside and the weather was pleasant though when we arrived it was dark and he had to use the flashlights from our phones to see menu- no prob. It was romantic. I'll be back for lunch as I work down the street at Greenway Plaza. Cute place to bring guests from out of town or a date night.

Quaint and Comfy

By adamron2018 |

Great food and atmosphere in a tucked away upscale neighborhood hot spot that overlooks a sprawling garden. The menu was savory and the employees were friendly and welcoming.

FAVORITE.

By Jacquelyn P |

Love the ambiance, the music, the nursery that is attached to it, the food, the service and the chocolate chip cookies. Oh and me and my fiance could LIVE off of their meat and cheese plate that is served at dinner.

Delicious and Peaceful

By Learning About Life |

My day began with a delightful cup of coffee and the most amazing croissant with the tastiest jam. Best of all it began with a friend introducing me to this delightful café. The service was friendly and prompt. The grounds, you have to visit. We sat out in the garden amongst trees and birds singing. Being from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada it was a retreat, as that time of year our temperatures are colder. It was Nov 09, 2016. I recommend this place if you want to sit with your best friend, share in tasty food, and an atmosphere of pure relaxation. It is a place where you can truly enjoy the best flavored coffee and the quiet of your company.

You have to go here

By NellBaker |

Tiny Boxwood's Cafe was such a treat. We went on a Saturday morning and it was quite busy but worth the wait. When you arrive you can sip on a glass of refreshing sangria while you wait. The service is fantastic, the food was amazing (make sure to get the fresh pastries of the day) and a beautiful building/garden. You have to go here while in Houston!

Relaxing brunch

By Marie L |

Absolutely love this place. This is the second time for me and my husband after our Texas friends introduced it to us. The ambiance to this place is amazing and relaxing. We had a lucky burger which was delicious double decker w cheese and came with sweet potato fries. Also the avocado toast which didn’t enjoy as much but was nutritious. Portions of dishes was small and quite expensive but the ambiance did make up for the prices. Loved the outdoor heaters and blankets available because outdoor seating is a must!

Neat lunch location

By terryo_11 |

This place was hidden in plain sight. A gem that has caught on with the smart set. Incredible gardens to enjoy the great and well prepared sandwiches and salads. Could spend a lazy afternoon enjoying the sights with a chilled wine or beer.

Mediocre food, very nice setting, excellent service

By juhaszj |

The "bouillabaisse" was actually cioppino, if that.... The lamb burger was pretty tasteless, the fries were very good. The setting is very nice indeed and the waitstaff are super-polite.

Rip off

By babak t |

The quality of food has gone down drastically from couple of years ago. This is evident even by the smell, as you get close to the counter to order. the place needs a major make over specially the kitchen area. The servers and the guy behind the counter are disheveled. You pay tip after waiting in line and order, but the server only brings the food and disappears. They are not around when you need something, just like fast food. It's way overpriced for that quality of food and service.

Tiny bits of taste bud heaven

By Jules77788 |

This place is so yummy. Don't let the long line scare you, there is plenty of seating hidden around the area. Nestled next to a lovely nursery, it is quite a nice find in Houston. The food was amazing and the Chocolate Chip cookies are not to be missed!

Great place for breakfast or brunch

By Patty1123 |

We were so fortunate during our last visit to Houston to be taken to Tiny Boxwood's Cafe on West Alabama for Sunday brunch. You can either dine inside or outside and we opted to dine outside under the patio cover. Like many place in Houston, you order on your way in, sit at your table and a wait staff brings out your food. The menu is posted on an old fashioned black board. I ordered the House Migas and loved them. My niece ordered the Mothers Breakfast and it looked outstanding. On our next visit I think I will order the Morning Cheese and Meat Board and share it with my husband. One of the nice conveniences is the outside bar where you can order drinks while you wait in line or for your order to arrive at your table.

Always a good idea!

By Holly B |

All tiny's locations in Houston are great! Tiny Boxwoods on Alabama is perfect for date night. Tiny's No 5 & Tiny's Milk & Cookies are perfect for a family dinner/dessert.

Quaint little cafe : great atmosphere!

By Pauline’s escapades |

Caught up with some friends over breakfast, pastries were quite nice. Full breakfast is a large portion so remember to share, unless you are really hungry. Lovely setting and helpful waiters/waitresses- good experience, Lumch crowd starts coming in about 1120... So if you are having a leisurely catch up, May want to do that a little earlier so you don't feel pressured to finish up and head off due to the queue forming ...

Breakfast with financial advisor

By PhiladelphiaPhillip |

He recommended since our old stand by Le Peep has moved, so had our breakfast meeting here. Had heard about it but did not quite know what to expect. Pleasant surprise and incredibly busy so clearly a popular spot. Wonderful baked goods and delicious coffee. Very wide variety of things on the menu, and a neat space tucked on the edge of Thompson and Hansen nursery. Really enjoyed.

Was here for a wedding

By Anna J |

Attended a Sunday wedding here. Lovely venue but too close to the fire house ~ sirens went off twice during the ceremony Homemade cheeses were delicious but did not care for the mint in the lemonade. Not impressed with the wedding cake, rather bland, but do not know if that was from the restaurant or procured elsewhere

This cafe is a hidden gem inside Houston

By Vika |

Located in the heart of River Oaks, inside the Thompson & Hanson Nursery garden, Tiny Boxwoods is a place that does not seem to belong in Houston. Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets, this romantic cafe feels like a French vacation. Scribbled on the chalk board, chef Baron Doke’s menu is composed of classic house made jams, baked goods, smoothies, quiches and tacos for breakfast, a healthy lunch fare of artisan sandwiches and salads, afternoon snacks and wine, and a hearty dinner choices of duck confit, buffalo burger, wood fried seafood and others. My favorites are the beet burger, house made lemonade and French basket. My daughter enjoys their home baked chocolate chip cookies. This is a perfect place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, if you are not in a hurry. This Houston restaurant does not take reservations and requires patrons to stand in line to order their meal. Nonetheless, it is always busy. If you have two hours to spare, this is a perfect place for a dining getaway.

Good but crowded

By Ashley R |

Well if the test of any place is " would I return?" Then this place is a winner, but it's more along the lines of, for me anyway, the positives outweighs the downsides. So what's bad about the place, well it has a long queue and you have to wait in line to order before you can get a table, and given that the queue is long and there are several empty tables it would appear there is a bottle neck, oh and there is not always shade available in the queue, but you can order drinks while you wait. It took us about 30 mins, and with 3 little ones that is a long time. On the up side once you have your order getting a table is not an issue, and there are some nice spots to sit outside if you like. Service was fast and polite, just as well because you tip before you find out. The food is tasty, maybe slightly pricey but not too over the top. And it's great to people watch. We want to try the dinner service which is more conventional and should be very intimate given the great setting.

Great atmosphere and service but food is not worth price

By Stevestravels101 |

This was our first visit for dinner on Saturday night. The atmosphere is great and the staff very polite and friendly. We ordered the lamb burger and shrimp risotto and found the food quality disappointing for the price.

Really, really delicious- long line, but worth it

By dougsbug |

I came here for a work lunch, I had never been here and am from out of town. What a surprise...a hidden gem, surrounded by the courtyard. We arrived earlier than lunch, and it already had a long line. The line remained our entire meal....but its worth the wait. The order taking process seems to be the main reason for the line- it is a slow process...it IS crowded, but the line moves super slow. Just prepare. They have a small, eclectic menu but something for everyone- all unique spins on their dishes. They do not let you take a table until after you have ordered, which makes complete sense, since they fill up quickly. They asked a few folks to get up, since others needed tables who had already ordered. Again, it makes sense and a sign is clearly posted. The pesto grilled cheese was really, really delicious. So were the beverages. It was mid-week but there were several groups there enjoying celebrations, work lunches, family lunches...it felt like LA (only hotter...) with its quaint, stylish ambience. I really enjoyed it, worth the wait and everyone's food was great!

Loved it!

By LAW64 |

We were so pleased to be able to have lunch at this lovely cafe. I had read about it in an article in a magazine in England. It is a trendy cafe located in a pretty plant nursery. There is parking attached or an overflow car park nearby. You enter the cafe through the car park - don't walk all way around the front as then you do a complete circle. You queue up to order food - the menu (no prices) is on the wall as you walk in. Friendly person took our order and then friendly staff deliver it to your table. Excellent choice of food - we loved the peanut chicken salad and the excellent burgers - also the mint lemonade and superb smoothie. Only choice of dessert was a fantastic chocolate cookie so all in all a perfect meal in a lovely setting. Recommended.

Breakfast is gorgeous

By Stephen-Gent_Belgium |

Simple lovely place with excellent food - the eggs with guacamole were ridiculously good - loved it big time!

An Oasis of Great Food

By Avidtraveller525 |

Food and experience was so nice, we went there twice. Best treat for brunch I have ever enjoyed. The pastry board was awesome and I recommend the cinnamon roll (like everyone else) but also the blueberry muffin. Delicious. Followed up with the egg dishes and finished with taking some chocolate chip cookies home. Whether quiet or hopping, the staff keeps it personal, attentive and shows great grace. It is a spot to leave full and filled with happiness.

One of Houston's best

By teachinla2000 |

I had a wonderful shrimp with risoto dish. Incredibly good. A wonderful and relaxing experience. Attached to the restaurant, is a nursery with lots of plants.

Incredible every time!

By Lufdoc |

On any given weekend during brunch/lunch hours, Tiny Boxwoods is a beehive of busyness. With a line out the door, for those wanting a quick bite should enter the side door near the counter for a seat at the bar. There is no better way to start a Saturday than with Mother’s Breakfast, a perfect combo to two hand-formed sausage patties, the best jalapeño cheese grits I have ever put in my mouth, and an absolutely heavenly biscuit with whipped butter and honey on the side. Add a mimosa and you are all set! Just don’t forget their famous chocolate chip cookie to take when you leave!

Great surroundings; decent food

By CORNELL C |

After a leisurely stroll through the shops and landscape of Thompson + Hanson, I was lucky enough to find the adjacent eatery Tiny Boxwoods. To be sure, this is not cheap eats but this tiny eatery offered a few surprises. While the minted lemonade was a little too sweet for my taste, I did understand the extra flavor notes; appealing. The real surprise, at least me, was the Lucky Burger. I am not one that usually goes for cheese on my burger but this cheesy, pickled, burger was so good that I kept looking at it after each bite and wondering what had happened to my sensibilities! The side of sweet potato waffle fries was at best ordinary and they were both commercially made and salted unevenly. Once in a while, I got a mouth full of salt that was overpowering: a shame. However, the overall ambiance and vibe of the space deserves to be mentioned. The service was expeditious, though the waitress was ill informed about the wine list. A before service staff meeting would be well advised. Why only three stars? I liked a lot about the mood, location, and some off the food preparation. But, in the end the preparations are as disjointed as this review. Do I like the Tiny Boxwoods? Well, yes. But there were as many misses as hits to this dining experience, so 3 out of 5 stars.

Can't believe I ate here and didn't eat their chocolate chip cookies

By Connie B |

Went here for a business breakfast. A little warm to sit outside but really enjoy when able. Great breakfast options. Love everything and enjoy their coffee. Picked up a loaf of their freshly made blueberry bread for a gift. Need to be able to find the right table for a semi private conversation. It worked fairly well. If you come for lunch or dinner, treat yourself to their warm cookies. The best! Parking can be a bear but sometimes you get lucky and able to park in their lot. Otherwise, pack on the street. It's worth the walk.

Neat little resturant

By tleeEvans |

Went on a Saturday afternoon. Waited 25 minutes to even get into the building to order at the counter, they did bring out ice water for those waiting and the area was shady, Once in the building the menu was written on the chalkboard, their menu was both brunch and lunch, but the menu for lunch is a limited one, as their week day menu seems to have more offerings I ordered the tiny grilled chicken salad and my husband got their hamburger with fresh fruit. My salad was good, chicken moist and favorable, but the salad was not very large. The hamburger was very good according to my husband and it was a good size. Their mint lemonade was OK, needed more mint flavor to it, but husband husband liked the Sangria. The atmosphere is very quaint and everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Prices are a little on the high side, not overly much, but still not a cheap lunch. Great spot for lunch with girlfriends. Would go back

Great restaurant and atmosphere

By Don R |

I met a friend for lunch and arrived around 11:30 because parking is limited nearby (you can park on the street). The atmosphere is fantastic and the food and service is top notch. All of the ingredients are fresh and flavorful. I had the Cubango Sandwich (pictured) and fries. They have a lot of salads and healthy options if that's what you like. It is a little pricey for lunch, but you get what you pay for and it was that good. I will definitely return when it's cooler and take advantage of the nice outdoor seating area.

Love this place!

By Susan |

Great outdoor patio vibe and some pretty yummy food! Always a pleasure to dine here with the cheese and meat board being one of my favorite starters. Never disappoints with three cheese and two meat selections. Cranberrys, toasted hazelnuts, candied jalapeños and a whole grain mustard smear to go with your generous portion of flatbread. A meal in itself! The summer salad is another favorite. And who could go wrong with the milk and cookies?

Beautiful Setting and perfect for eating outside on a beautiful night

By DPHou |

Just had my 4th visit to Tiny Boxwood's and it keep delivering. Pick a good night for sitting outside, and it is really special. The food always delivers, but to me, adding sitting outside in the beautiful garden makes it extra special. Excellent unobtrusive service, excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere make TB's a really special place.

Highlight of our visit to Houston!

By Guypicard |

What a wonderful brunch experience! Our first trip to Tiny Boxwoods but certainly won’t be the last. We’re already looking forward to returning here on our next visit to experience evening dinner. Such a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Houston. The surroundings make one feel as though you’re in an almost country setting although you’re only steps away from Houston skyscrapers. Such an incredible concept in that you are able to stroll around a beautifully manicured nursery setting. The menu was outstanding! Not one of us in our party was disappointed. Superb food! Oh... and the chocolate chip cookies are divine... most definitely worth the calorie splurge! They are served warm and are probably one of the best cookies I’ve tasted. Be prepared for a wait if you are coming to experience breakfast or brunch. But I must say this place was definitely worth the wait! While you’re here maybe pick up a signature tiny boxwood to remind you of a fantastic meal and serene scenery while at Tiny Boxwoods!!

Sorry but the computer didn’t take your order!

By First and last time diner |

Don’t be patient..don’t pay for service before you get any and grab a server sooner than we did this morning ..After seeing table after table getting their orders we sat and sat.. we grabbed a server who came back and said That the computer didn’t take our order. stupid Computer!!lol..How about a human Looking over his staff and restaurant Andy Two other humans not having anything served to them?! silly us ...Food is good but think I won’t ever pay on a credit card for service rendered before I ever get service. they credited my card but ....really blaming the poor computer..really????!!!!

The lack of prices on the menu is irritating!

By ralicen |

We live in Houston and have dined at Tiny's on many occasions but my most recent lunchtime experience just flat irritated me. The atmosphere is definitely what always draws us to the restaurant; the outside dining in the garden atmosphere is absolutely delightful. My irritation came from the reminder that Tiny Boxwoods does not post prices on their menu. I can understand not posting prices on a website, but once you arrive at the restaurant and are making your selections, it would be nice to see prices on the one menu which is posted on the wall! The food is relatively high-priced and I would rate it good, but not exceptional. You stand in line to order at the counter during breakfast and lunchtime, so I found myself taking more time asking how much the various items were before placing my order. I definitely don't mind spending money on good food when dining out, but the idea that price doesn't or shouldn't matter to their customers was annoying. In my opinion, the place exudes a snobby pretentiousness.

A Hidden Gem in H-Town

By Andrew G |

This adorable and quaint restaurant is hidden off a busy street and nestled in a nursery. The atmosphere is right out of the pages of a Pottery Barn catalog. The food is unique and delicious. Be sure to have a warm cookie for dessert as well. I've eaten at many restaurants in Houston and this place is truly a gem.

Relaxing and great place, excellent food

By 969MariaO |

Tiny Boxwoods is not just another restaurant, it has something unique and charming. It has a cozy inside seating area, and a beautifull garden that serves as an outdoor seating area, where you can have a great meal. The menu includes great salads, pizzas, sandwiches, burgers; delicious bread and cookies, amongst other options. Tiny Boxwoods is a small oasis in the middle of the galleria area. The service is also great. If you happen to be in Houston, Tiny is the place to go.

Worth the wait

By SR-1007 |

We had a beautiful day to wait in the line to order. It might not be such a lovely wait in summer’s heat. Food was quite good for brunch choices. Top marks for food. Service was low-touch, but good quality when we needed them.

Favorite brunch place in Htown

By petitmot@gmail.com |

Despite being affronted by an intimidating queue of eager brunches, time passes quickly in this lovely little oasis in the middle of Houston which is situated just next to a nursery. A nice break from the usual trendy spots in town, the long line is not really a problem due to the valet bar set up just by the entrance serving light and refreshing drinks. With a chardonay mojito in hand, and plenty of time to discover the original menu with good standard fare and normal size portions. Finding a table is a bit tricky but the hostesses aim to please and within 10 minutes we are seated. Orders are brought to the table, both inside and out. My dish was very tasty and the ambiance was lively. I can't wait to try this place for dinner - where there is a different menu and table service.

Trendy but disappointing

By anoukxxxx |

The cafe is nice, but the food was cold when served, it didn’t seem worth the wait in the queue of 30 minutes. The set up of queueing outside, with the cashier inside located next to the kitchen and toilets, so waiters and customers are cutting the queue constantly. Not optimal. The service was very attentive but they made an error in our order and we had to wait for one dish .

Home Away From Home

By JulieAG |

We’ve always enjoyed breakfast and lunch at this beautiful establishment but we recently discovered the dinner invitation. With an atmosphere unlike any other in Houston, we have taken it upon ourselves to enjoy almost every single item on the menu. This is definitely a destination in Houston that I hope not everyone discovers! The nursery that shares the property serves as a selfie dream come true for anyone under 30🦄🌈⭐️! Discover. Enjoy. Journey.

Great service great food

By JoBee65 |

Couldn't fault our night out here. Thanks to Lynda our server who was awesome with her great sense of humour and the beautifully presented and delicious food.

Elegant cozy environment, thoughtful menu

By Scuba_Divers |

Excellent tailored service. The wait staff interacted with each table perfectly. We were more jovial and she responded in kind, but was reserved with the subdued table next to us. Water was always being replaced and she waiting patiently while I changed my wine order three times. The menu was carefully crafted to include the best preparations of seafood, fish, lamb, pork, bison, and beef. If you are looking for the "War & Peace" of menus, don't come here ;) The table opted for shrimp and risotto, creamiest, ever; two fresh catches of grouper and snapper, on beds of veggies; and the bone in pork "chop", most tender piece of pork we've ever tasted. Started with a cheese/charcuterie board with combination of new experiences and old favorites. Simply fabulous and fun evening. We almost asked for outside seating which would have been awesome, but rain clouds were in the forecast. I'm thinking weekend brunch on the patio!

Lovely, casual brunch setting

By Debra H |

My daughter and I had brunch here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in March. The line you have to wait in to order your food was long, but they had a small bar that you could order mimosas or brunch cocktails that you could sip on while you waited. My chorizo and manchego pizza with a fried egg on top was delicious. My daughter had the southern breakfast but unfortunately they had run out of biscuits by the time we ordered. All the pastries looked great, but I'm glad we did not order any as we were both very full before we could finish our meals. I would definitely go back despite the wait. I am curious about how this restaurant deals with the heat and humidity in the summertime since the majority of seating is outdoors.

Little oasis in town

By 46benedictes |

This is a beautiful place. It"s an oasis because you can sit outside in the garden which is connected to a nursery. There's also a beautiful little shop there with small interiour items. Food was good. Staff is pleasant. Menu without prices is weird. It also annoyed me that we had to que up inside to place and pay the order. All in all this is a place worth visiting. It takes your stress away.

Top Notch!

By Sunshine371 |

This little gem was amazing. Very small inside but that's part of the charm. They have a lovely outdoor dining area but the wait was almost 2 hours so we opted for inside. Went on a recommendation of a colleague and no one was disappointed. Our server was outstanding! Tall guy w/ dark hair and I'm ashamed I cannot remember his name. Sorry! We had appetizers and drinks first then our entrees. Shrimp risotto and snapper were amazing. Then, dessert. O.M.G. you will die. Chocolate cake out of this world and their little donut holes . . .so delicious. Wish I lived closer b/c I'd love to go again.

French rustic chic breakfast with an all American twang

By SPBran |

On holiday in Houston visiting my son and family, he suggested Tiny Boxwood's for breakfast. Very COOL! What a simple yet superb menu. From a full Mother's breakfast with eggs, sausage, biscuit and fruit to a simple croissant with jam. All this washed down with an endless tea or coffee. I had the bacon and sugar brown scone (the last one in the shop). The cinnamon roll was stunningly tasty. All this in a mock French farmhouse with reclaimed styled furniture. A very busy place with business folks mingling with relaxing mums. Good bit a bit pricey!

Absolutely loved it

By pfafftonian |

My wife and I were at Tiny Boxwoods for dinner recently, and it was one of the best dinner experiences I've ever had. I cannot think of a single thing I would change. We ordered the Cheese & Meat Board and the Wood Fired Artichokes for appetizers, and they were beyond exquisite. For dinner, around the table we had the Lucky Burger, Shrimp & Risotto, Steak Frites, and Gazpacho. All were excellent. For dessert we split a Cheesecake and an A La Mode, which is basically a thick chocolate chip cookie baked in a small iron skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream. The waitstaff was just the right amount of attentive. The setting was quiet and calming. And the price was reasonable, considering the quality.

As a visitor from the UK and

By DayTrip499644 |

As a visitor from the UK and my first visit here, I was very impressed with this outstanding venue for breakfast and lunch in Houston. The staff are very attentive and professional. Menu looks standard, but it’s by far beyond that in taste and presentation. It gets extremely busy, but we managed to get seats at the bar at 9.15, as all tables were taken. Seating available and on a warm day would be perfect! The mini garden centre and shop are a lovely addition. One more thing.... we parked up easily!

Delish!

By Sarai G |

Not only is it a cute little place but the food is Delish! I made a great choice by having the beet burger! No complaints 😋

Beautiful and quiet in the garden

By Scott A |

Great little place for a brunch. We had a 30 minute wait at 10am on a Sunday morning. All of our menu choices were very good, but the egg and potato pizza took top prize. All the pizza items are a good bet. All the food was fresh and delicious. The good TA rating is worth it. Pricing is worth it.

Great brunch atmosphere

By tiroloco-travels |

The whole ambiance was great. The set up is great and has multiple areas to sit down. The menu had plenty to offer and we were truly happy with this find.I would go back for sure.

Nice and cozy, but ...

By hagalindo |

This place is great, the food selection is also fantastic, but the portions are rather small. The Migas seemed to be very popular

Delightful experience

By Terri N |

My son and I had lunch. We both had the cheeseburgers! Food was excellent! The only drawback was we had to stand in line for a bit to place our order. Also we took Lyft there, and we had difficulty locating it because there is not a sign. I called but still was uncertain. The attached nursery was a pleasant bonus to see all the beautiful flowers.

Excellence in Every Way

By FellowTraveler826654 |

My family has visited Tiny Boxwoods for years now. Love the atmosphere and the food. Right now planning my daughter’s bridal breakfast with Events Manager, Jared Burgess. He’s answered my emails promptly, professionally. Jared has also been polite and most helpful. Very much looking forward to a delightful celebration here for my daughter soon!

LOVE this place!

By Paula M |

Not only is the food excellent, the atmosphere is simply amazing! Stay and browse through the nursery and the cute little shop.

Lovely secret garden setting

By MsSparky |

We had an early dinner (5:30) before attending an event on a Thursday night. Since we were so early, I can't comment on the long waits that others have encountered or patio seating only being available form for walk ins. We had a reservation and were still seated on the patio. The setting is just lovely, tucked away in a beautiful garden - I think this used to be a nursery. You would never guess that Westheimer is just a few blocks away. This would be a wonderful setting for a wedding or some other special event. The garden was immaculate and the patio seating was of a very high quality rattan. There was a large fan to keep the patio comfortable. We started with the meat and cheese board which was artistically presented. The jalapeno jelly was the standout. The menu is quite brief, so those who are somewhat finicfky might have difficulty identifying something that pleases them. I had the catch of the day, which was branzino. My husband pointed out that this could not be the catch of the day since branzino is a fish native to the Mediterranean. The joy of eating branzino is the the wonderful crispy skin, but since the fish was in contact with the sauce, the skin suffered. Otherwise, it was a tasty dish, especially the brussles sprouts that accompanied. My husband had the "watercolor" which was crab and shrimp with a coconut rice. It was described as "fine", but nothing special. For dessert, we shared the blueberry goat cheese cheesecake. It was very light and tangy. We picked up two of the famous chocolate chip cookies "to go" for later. They were delicious and should not be missed. I would suggest that a pasta dish should be added to the menu. I know that there is risotto which in Italy is served as a pasta course, but I don't think that it really substitutes for pasta for most diners. Overall, a little corner of quiet in the noisy and busy city that is Houston. I think it is really more about the experience and less about the food. I can think of many restaurants at this price point that are tastier, but none that are so serene.

Worth Finding This Restaurant

By John G |

I enjoyed the range of well-prepared, largely locally-sourced, food for several breakfasts. Helpful and attentive staff made my time there a pleasure.

Tasty!

By cmsoto2582 |

Wow, absolutely delicious! This restaurant is filled with every option available, for every wandering tastebud imaginable! The staff was pleasant and the food exceptional! We sat outdoors and besides the mosquitoes, it was perfect!

Lovely Cafe

Beautiful exterior and interior, a lovely menu with plenty of offerings and great pastries, cookies and beverages; this establishment is the ideal place to sit back and relax with friends for hours over brunch, lunch or dinner.

Lovely atmosphere with delicious food

By Kitty W |

My daughter and I arrived at dusk on a typical hot July evening. Although we did not have a reservation, the hostess was still able to accommodate us with about a 30 minute wait provided that we dined outside on the side porch. The atmosphere was very lovely with nice background music playing. I had the seafood special that was delicious. My daughter had the Black and Blue beef tenderloin which was also as equally scrumptious. We both had a glass of a nice French red wine. They have a nice wine menu as well. The menu is small but all entrees sound delish! We were both very pleased with the meal and it's such a lovely setting with the twinkling lights amidst all the nursery plants. She's excited they are planning an Austin location in the near future.

Breakfast with flair

By 99cooks111 |

We do not usually love places that you go up to place your order, but this one was great. Atmosphere is really good, great feel like you do not wish to rush- just relax and enjoy. The food was good and we people watched and everyone seemed very pleased with their food. Not at all cheap, but a really good experience.

lunch with the family

By randi691 |

Really like the ambience of this place which is set in a nursery. It was fun browsing all the plants while we waited for our food. A nice selection of sandwiches, pizzas and drinks. Make sure you get some of the cookies to go!

lunch with friends

By loves2travel1974 |

I couldn't wait to try Tiny Boxwoods. I've heard nothing but great things from friends who have eaten there but I must say I was very disappointed. Yes, the patio and atmosphere are amazing but the food was underwhelming. There was a very long line to place an order so perhaps they were just slammed on my visit and not putting out their normal quality of food but of the four of us having lunch, none of us were too impressed with what we ordered. It seemed very expensive and food quality and taste did not justify the cost in my opinion. One exception, the chocolate chip cookie was very delicious but I wouldn't go back just for a cookie.

The wait is worth it

By MLB7629 |

You order at the counter before you sit at your table, but the experience is special non the less because of the amazing food. We had breakfast entree's but I promise a trip for just the patisseries and clotted cream would be worth it alone. We went on a rainy day and missed the full experience of the garden

Girls kind of place!

By VElittle1 |

A group of 5 friends visited for breakfast based on one friends previous visit. We sat outside on the patio. It has different food....such as avocado and eggs.....a bread plate.....fruit and granola parfait with yogurt. The average price of each person was $11. It was good. Clean and service excellent. The crowd there was not the McDonalds type. Upper scale. You order at the front, pay, and they bring the food to your table. I got the fruit and granola parfait, which was delicious.

Wonderful atmosphere

By 862maribeths |

What an amazing little find! The atmosphere was truly wonderful. We had breakfast here on a Saturday morning. We got there at 10 which was perfect since by 10:45 it was very busy. But the line moved and people were seated fairly quickly. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We could have sat outside all day under the porch area. Food was amazing and tasty. Simple dishes with very fun twists! Highly recommend this place!

As a group of 7, this place was perfect. The food was incredibly fresh and lots of good options. The pastry board was amazing. The atmosphere was quaint and cute. We were able to take some great photos and have a delicious breakfast.

Told we would have to eat fast and leave

By gursikhs |

We had a hard time finding the restaurant due to lack of signage. Our navigation system said we had arrived but we only saw bushes and trees. We found a pedestrian who pointed out the restaurant to us. Although the address was on Alabama street we had to turn on to Saint street and enter a parking lot to see it. The parking lot had an overwhelming wood smoke smell which was not appealing since it was not a barbecue joint. The website lists it as open all day.My husband and I arrived at 4:30 pm. The receptionist showed us a menu of three items. The first was a cold cheese and meat plate. I don't remember the others. We were told that we would have to eat fast and leave because the restaurant closes at 5 pm and reopens at 5:30 pm for supper. We felt very unwelcome and left.

In the Middle of Houston But Feels Miles Away

By davemh333 |

This is the loveliest place to eat in Houston on a nice day. They could rest on their laurels, because I’d come just to sit outside in the garden, but the food is actually quite good for breakfast or lunch. If you’re feeling like an unhealthy splurge, their baked goods are excellent.

Great Food & Ambiance though a bit Steamy!

By Sandra K |

It was a lovely date night and the service was impeccable! Our dinner was tasty though maybe a bit on the "expensive for what you get" end of the spectrum. I feel like we were paying for the ambiance more than the food which was ok for date night/special event. It was in a lovely setting though as much of the seating is outside in Houston I would liked to have had more fans while they had several it was just so steamy. I think we'll definitely go back for date night in the spring or fall.

Delightful Lunch in the Garden

By Cheri C |

Wonderful selections of soup, salads, and sandwiches. Features a good wine list also. Great place to celebrate a special occasion. We were celebrating a special birthday and were able to select a very special bottle of champagne from Alsace. The wait service was impeccable and so professional. Very impressive. Located next to nursery with plants to purchase along with decorative accessories.

Cute place with great food

By Alex M |

This place makes a great lunch and is a hidden gem off the main roads. It is tucked away near a garden center that doubles as its beautiful outdoor green space. Everything I have eaten here is great but before you leave make sure you get a cookie or two or three. They are worth every calorie.

Great meal, beautiful atmosphere.

By ShopWithVal |

I went for brunch the first time a few days ago as it seemed to be rated one of the top spots in town. I instantly fell in love with the outside area (beautiful enough to have a wedding there), although it was too warm to comfortably eat outside. We waited in line to place our order, got a number and then were seated immediately. If going on a weekend, I'd suggest getting there on the earlier side as the place fills up quickly, and you can't grab a table until you order. When the food arrived, it was absolutely delicious - fresh, flavorful and filling. I had egg and avocado with a bowl of fruit and an awesome cocktail, which sadly I can't remember the name of. It was some sort of white wine on ice with mint and other goodness. A bit pricey for what it was, but overall a great spot. I can't wait to go back and bring friends visiting from out of town.

It's not tiny

By AUSAGUY007 |

The food and menu is pretty good. It's more like French food than anything but I don't think the have a seasonal menu.... Sometimes there is a long line but the line moved fast

Cool place

By aaron m |

Good food. Great atmosphere. Don't list prices so if you have to ask your at the wrong place. Looks like Californian type place in H town. Not kid friendly at all. Staff is nice.

Fresh, relaxing, beautiful. And good food too

By elbrujo_ve |

This is a beautiful place that happens to serve a great food (or vice versa). Both the food and the setting are great. Not a typical menu with typical dishes. It is kind of surprising, on a good way. You can go from pizza to a very well elaborated and rounded dishes. Great salads, appetizers and save some space for the desserts (the doughnuts are great, but they serve 4 people easy. The lamb burger is quite good too. If weather allows it do not hesitate in eating "al Fresco" in front of the nursery. Service is very attentive although they may show a few small glitches, mostly with the younger attendants. However, nothing major. Price wise, not cheap, not overly expensive. And you have very affordable bottles of decent wine available. Fresh, relaxing, beautiful. Perfect for a date or to enjoy with friends. One of our favorite places to eat and relax in Houston.

Wonderful garden

By PPM81 |

Visited this restaurant for brunch. The highlight was the beautiful garden of the nearby nursery which provided a wonderful setting. The brunch menu was innovative and wont disappoint.

Such a gem!!!

By Bobbie S |

Great food and atmosphere and service all in one place! Super burgers, brunch was the best! Staff is so accommodating and the lovely outdoor seating is great! Very kid and family friendly! Definitely will go back.

Very attractive space, superb service

By PeanutButters |

Come to Tiny Boxwood's and enjoy the beautiful surroundings -- charming indoor space and lovely outdoor patio -- and the very excellent service. The menu has some interesting and distinctive options, and everyone in our party enjoyed their tasty dishes.

A++ for the ambience, A for the service and C for the food

By LoveToTravel0007 |

I think the title says it all. Go here if you want to enjoy one of the most beautiful casually elegant places in Houston. The lack of big sign and valet gives it this "hidden" feel. The hostesses were friendly but not very professional while the waiter was superb. This was a late dinner and we only had to wait a few minutes for them to clear our table. The prices are accurate for the location and ambiance but then the food arrived and we were disappointed. I was talking to a co-worker today and she said that she felt it was average food. I couldn't agree more. Will only go back when the weather is beautiful to sit outside and have a drink. No more food here.

Hidden gem in Houston set in a plant nursery with the best Chocolate chip cookie in Town

By Alejandro A |

Tiny's is great for all 3 meals. My favorite is having dinner in the plant nursery. Brunch can be difficult because of the long lines, but you are able to buy a drink and sip it until you are able to get a seat.

Real gem

By LauritaLondon |

I'm used to restaurants looking like cardboard boxes in Houston but this place is worth a visit not ably because if it's delicious food but also the atmosphere. It's hard to find (behind the nursery) but quite quaint and pretty when you arrive. Has a lovely garden terrace where we had a table and the waiter was really great and helped me make my choice for the buffalo and blue cheese risotto. Go there if you are in Houston!

A Sunday Brunch Must

Just go! Enjoy a sangria with your entree. Take in the beautiful ambience, socialize with your brunch companion, and have a cookie for dessert. You're welcome! :-)

Brunch with a view

By Meg S |

This place is a gorgeous shabby chic cafe with delicious food and coffee set in an immaculate 'garden centre'. I went for brunch and had yoghurt and fruit with a delicious granola type crunchy topping. It was divine. The weather was super hot when I was there so we didn't sit outside but I can imagine if it was not so warm, the outdoor tables would be extremely popular. The gardens truly are immaculate and although I did not have time to look around the rest of the centre the cafe was gorgeous.

Not worth the wait

By viverelife |

The consensus at our table was the food was just OK and not worth the wait. The grits were so thick it took effort to stir with a spoon. Waited in line outside for over an hour. By the time we ordered (12pm), they were out of the food we wanted. If you pay by card, they have you tip at the register, but then you have no server! You even have to get your own water! Overpriced and parking is terrible. The atmosphere is nice, so that's a plus. Great to people watch once you're finally seated. If it were cheaper with shorter lines, I'd give it 3 stars. Live and learn.

A Houston staple

By Elizabeth M |

I've been coming to Tiny's for years and it has never let me down. Located next to a flower shop, they have a lovely outdoor space for dining or waiting when lines get long. Some of my all-time favorite dishes from Tiny's include: the grilled cheese with pesto, salad with goat cheese and salmon, burger, and the breakfast pizza. Their lemonade and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies cannot be missed.

Fancy and yummy!

By Lrph |

A beautiful little spot in the city. We loved our breakfast here as a family, though didn't anticipate paying so much. We should have done more research on that. Prices aren't listed on the menu or online. The food was fantastic and the service was great, just not a place for people on a budget. :)

Great Atmosphere unique place

By Scoutwonderworld |

I thought the food was very good but it seemed a little expensive for what you get. It is in a nicer area of town so maybe the rent is high for them. It is still a good place to go but I would not make it a regular spot to go because of the price. They are very busy so plan to be there a while uness you go at off times. Give it a go. It is good.

Wonderful Dinner

By Peter J |

We came here looking for a better than average dinner experience and just loved it. The location is quite different but very attractive - like an oasis on a pretty soulless strip in Houston. The food was excellent - creative farm to table. My wife is vegetarian and she was very well catered for. Service was right on the mark and wine list was cleverly constructed. I thought the overall vibe was a little like some of the best modern restaurants you can now find in SE England. Definitely a return to location.

LOVE!!!

By Jacque H |

One of my favorite places ever. ..love the decor and the ambience. Had the eggs and avocado and my friends had the beet burger and sausage/grits "mothers breakfast". We started with 3 pastries that were unbelievable (and huge...enough to share and take leftovers). We for sure need one of these in California!

Nice Lunch

By Christopher W |

Seems like a popular lunchtime place. We had to stand in line for about 15 minutes to place and pay for our orders. We managed to be seated inside which is important in Houston in the summer. Good service by the servers bringing our drinks and meals. Menu seems to mainly revolve around salads. Very good food and well presented.

Perfect ambience, Great food and excellent Sangria

By Markus N |

Went here with my Family during our vacation in Houston. The location is quite hard to find, but as one of my family members live in Houston he for sure took us here as this is one of his favorite restaurants. When we came there we had to stand in a long line waiting to order the food, that could be challenging if you are going here with kids. However, the wait was worth it. The Burger we ordered was very good, and that you could choose sides (fries, fruits, salat) was great. It was also recommended to taste their Sangria, and i got to say that the white wine sangria is one of the best i have ever tasted. I also ordered the red wine Sangria that could´nt reach the top quiality of the white one. However, it was still good. The prices was resonable and you could exepct some expenses, but not huge. In addition it was worth the money. And isn´t that the most important thing? The ambiance was fantastic, it is bohemic with gardens and rotting chairs stairing at the grass where the kids could play football or with each other. Perfect for families as for couples and singles. I am giving this restaurant a "Very good" rating as the orders i made didn´t came as i ordered. In addition, it was a bit annoying that they don´t have a better system for ordering customers waiting for tables/orders. Else, perfect :)

Perfect brunch location, but .....

By Hans Ü |

Went over a saturday for brunch and got there about 10-15 minutes before it opens (9a) - however, it was already overflowing with people with about 15-20 before us. We literally got the last parking spot. That said, the food more than makes up for the wait- we ordered the pastry board (croissants, scones) with coffee, just 'beet it burger' and the egg & avocado with mimosas. the beet it burger was surprisingly good, it didnt taste frozen and thawed- the tomatillo salsa on the egg & avocado could have been a tad bit spicier. the mimosas were good, but a little too tart. All in all a recommended place, there is good outdoor seating available (preferred for fall or winter) and a little garden/nursery area to stroll around after the meal.

Yummy gem

By Aoverbay |

Parking is behind and kinda hard to see if you aren’t from Texas. But well worth the find. We all 4 loved our meals. I had mothers breakfast. It was amazing! Great service with a smile and a cute outdoor area.

One of my favorite spots in Houston

By Maytorena |

Breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner... it's all worth it. Sometimes there is a line but it is worth the wait. When we try to think of a place to eat this is always at the top of the list. The setting is quaint. The food is delicious. Just remember it is closed on Mondays.

Beautifully lit gardens and great food!

By Cathy M |

Visited Saturday evening and wait not too long for lovely outside table, able to enjoy drinks at bar while we waited. This place is so well staffed and all very attentive and knowledgeable about menu too. We enjoyed the cheese and meat board which came with nuts and fruit delicious and well presented.

Graduation Dinner

By Carol B |

Great service ... and they had it set up very nice for our group and my brother had it set ahead for wine, appetizers and salad...dinner selection was varied. I enjoyed the buffalo filet, very tender. Only thing is they over salt many dishes...and in the long seating area outside they need an awning for sunset times...very hot for us older folks. But our party was large and they did have other seating inside and nearer the restaurant that was shaded. It was fun to walk through the plants at the landscape company that blended with Tiny Boxwood!

Wonderful lunch spot

By kikirob |

Beautiful space with indoor and outdoor dining. Very busy on a Saturday but you can enjoy mimosa while you wait. Lots to choose from. Artisanal meat and cheese boards, pastries including flaky croissants, scramble with avocado, burgers, sandwiches and more. Very impressive and finish with a homemade chocolate chip cookie.

I finally got to indulge in a breakfast at Tiny Boxwoods! This place is absolutely charming and the food was to die for! Don't let the long lines scare you - it is worth the wait, and you can always have one member of your party sneak inside to see if any bar seating is available. Don't leave without ordering a blueberry muffin!

Yummy food and very good service at this resaturant. I was blown away by the tuna, which was cooked to perfection. They have a great Gruner white wine on the menu which was delicious. Valet Parking

My daughter loves the food at Tiny's Boxwood, so we decided to go there for Mother's Day brunch. We arrived at 10 a.m., and there was already a line. All the parking spots at the restaurant and along the streets were full, so we saw people parking at a nearby strip mall. Despite my hesitation, we decided to park there. Unfortunately, I was wearing high heels and couldn't walk very far. When we returned, every car had been towed from the strip mall—mine included, along with 15 others. We had to take an Uber to the impound lot, which was 12 miles away. When we got there, we saw a lot of Tiny's customers waiting for their cars too. What an experience on Mother's Day! I really hope Tiny's Boxwood considers offering valet parking in the future. After this experience, I'll definitely think twice before going back, especially because of the parking situation.

A nice way to start the weekend!

Met a friend at this well-known but hard to spot venue. It's on Alabama on the north side of the street but accessed via the side street. The parking lot is tiny but they have another lot (both free) a block further down the street. You stand in line to order and then the food is brought to your table. I have the avocado and eggs and my friend eggs miga..we also had the pastry board. Also tried the Julia sunrise drink which was orange and cranberry mixed. The eggs were perfect, the pastries huge. I would pass on the drinks next time. The chocolate croissant had hard chocolate in it...it should have been warmed. That is my only complaint about the food. The service was good (although the waiter delivering drinks was trying to give our drinks to the next table!) but I don't understand why the bill at the counter offers choice of 18, 21 and 25% tip for a place where you have to stand in line to order your food? I thought tip levels like that were for full service where waiter takes order from your table?

Tuesday Night Dinner

Excellent service and the food was very good. Ambiance in the restaurant and also on the patio top notch. The Manager, Grace, was very customer focused and extremely nice to us. Rate Tiny Boxwoods very highly.

Upscale cafe

We (3) had breakfast this morning at Tiny's. Not sure how we passed-by so many times w/o stopping. Menu was good, but not what was expected from a cafe breakfast menu. No tacos, waffles, pancakes or omelets...but each order was good. Definitely on the expensive-side for breakfast. The coffee was very disappointing. It was obviously made several hours earlier and kept sitting in a pitcher. One cup was all I could stand...and I'm a big coffee drinker. Service was excellent. Bathrooms were very clean. There is a nice covered outdoor dining area with shrubbery separating the area from the busy street.

Chillin' in Houston

By Blair |

The lush, rustic garden setting at Tiny Boxwood's Café makes summertime Houston bearable. An icy white wine Mojito pleasantly passed the time spent waiting in line for their non-pretentious, excellent food. Servers actually seem to enjoy working here as they buzz around the tables. You'll find good bread for made-to-order sandwiches, hot crispy fries, perfect fresh fruit. Patrons were taking home paper sacks of baked goods for later. Worth a visit.

Good but overpriced

By NATHANHOUSTON |

I almost hate to put an average review because the food was really good here and the atmosphere was really charming. The pricing though is just pretty drastically out of whack for what you receive. Although I find the place relaxing and the staff and food really good - I likely won't return in favor of less expensive, equally charming places in the area. That's just based on my personal taste. This is a great place though if you don't mind dropping a little extra cash.

Birthday celebration

You can never go wrong visiting Tiny's. When I walk into this magnificent location, you just forget about everything and all seems well. It's an oasis in a busy Houston. The food is superb, staff friendly and inviting, and you feel like you've just escaped to a French oasis. Tops menu items for me are the Lamb Burger, pizzas, and Cheese and Meat board. And, the Donuts for dessert and a must. No sign, no marketing and always packed. Amazing place. A must visit when coming to Houston.

Disappointment

By Gayle G |

Lovely outdoor setting with a boring menu. After reading so many positive reviews, I had hoped for some improvement in the food, but my memory was spot on. Tiny Boxwoods still has unappetizing, flavorless food. I should have recognized a red flag when I asked my server for her recommendation, and she suggested the hamburger.

5 Star Brunch

I have lost count of how many times I have been to Tiny Boxwoods, Their coffee is great & they have a fabulous selection of food on their menu. Very gorgeous decor! Make sure you get there early as they generally have a line all the way out the door during busy periods

Excellent food. Fast, efficient, friendly service. Good staff. But some of the customers definitely are too snooty/snobbish/think they are too good for other people! A damn shame.

Dinner and Drinks on a hot Houston Night

By houstontraveler2017 |

Stopped in for cocktails to cool off from hot Houston afternoon and stayed for dinner. Wonderful atmosphere and decor with nice craft cocktails, a well thought out wine list and always solid food. The Priorat was reasonably priced and paired nicely with the burger. Wish it was the usually lamb burger but this month they substituted a ground rib eye. I have to say ground rib eye makes a great burger. Started with the French Laundry -- a nice charcuterie board, with a selection of cheese, fruit and nuts.

A little garden oasis

This is such a lovely restaurant. Its really better than average, but not quite very good. It's warm and inviting with an imaginative menu. We sat at the bar and the service was ok, which can be the downside of sitting at the bar. They have a decent cocktail list and wine selection. The food ranges from appetizers to main courses, with a few flat pizzas. I think the standout was the artichoke appetizer. Nicely done with a delicious chimmichuri . The mushroom pizza was ok it lacked seasoning. The bouillabaisse had a really weird aftertaste.

Better than ever!!

We decided to check Tiny’s Boxwoods for dinner for a change. We typically choose Tiny’s for brunch, but decided to try the dinner experience. We were not disappointed. In fact we were blown away by the courtesy and service we experienced from start to finish while enjoying a meal that exceeded our highest expectations. We had no reservation so we had to enjoy strolling throughout the garden/nursery area that had comfortable seating arrayed around the fringes of the green. Emily M served us at the bar while we were awaiting a table. She was warm and accommodating like we were the only guests seeking an ideal wine to start our evening. We selected a bottle of Chateau de Coureau that was absolutely delicious. Courtney checked on us continuously as we awaited our table making us feel well served. Once seated, Octavio took over and helped us select our options from the menu. We started with the Roasted Artichokes and Caesar Salad as starters. Both were flavorful and prepared so well that we agreed they were the best presentations we had ever experienced. That was just the opening act. Our main dishes were the Ribeye and Herb Roasted Chicken which were both incredible. We finished up with the Goat Cheese Cheesecake that was the perfect finish! Octavio was totally attentive and professional during our dining experience. He was always there when appropriate and gave us our privacy otherwise. Couldn’t ask for better service!!

Cute food

Tiny Boxwood's is a cute restaurant with cute food. Limited healthy choices with local ingredients. Pretty expensive for all the cuteness and the food is not distinguished by its variety nor its inventiveness.

Delicious Brunch

We enjoyed brunch in a lovely garden next to a nursery on Sunday morning. The menu is superb. The service is polite and gracious. Great for family and friends. Can get busy after 11 am.

The perfect Brunch

By Lisa G |

We came here for Brunch on a Sunday morning. There is not a lot of parking, but we were able to park on the side street. You order at the counter, they give you a number and you find your table. You can choose inside or outside seating. This is a perfect outdoor stop for a cool, sunny day. The outdoor seating has umbrellas and a nice green space to enjoy while you are eating. The breakfast was very good and the portions were just right. Defiantly worth going. Try the fresh orang juice and share a cinnamon roll while you wait for your meal.

Hearty, Wholesome Breakfast/Brunch

By KGTraveler_13 |

We knew we were in for a treat when we saw the line extending out the door upon our arrival. The menu is written large on the wall where you enter, so you have plenty of time to select (and reconsider) what it is you will order when your turn comes up. The descriptions and choices are so tantalizing, you will likely change your mind at least once, unless you have a particular favorite that you always order. A number of the muffin offerings were crossed out because there were no more to be sold. The name may be TINY Boxwoods, but the food is LARGE -- in quantity, in flavor, in value. And the waitstaff is wonderful. They saw our 84-year-old dad standing in line and immediately sought out a chair to bring to him, so that he could be comfortable during our wait in line. They also helped us secure a good table, as you basically get a table as other parties rise to leave. The meal was delicious, all the various choices our party of five selected from the brunch menu. The quantities filled us so much, we didn't need to get lunch. They also sell fresh-baked breads, muffins, and cookies. We got some chocolate chip cookies for snacking and a loaf of bread for my nephew to enjoy during his work week. All in all, Tiny Boxwoods provided a fantastic dining experience; I imagine that lunch or dinner would be equally satisfying.

Won’t be coming back

By happyrelaxeddudes |

The food and service are great. Dining outside on a beautiful night is a gorgeous experience… BUT to get a table, you need to be part of “in crowd” apparently. I made a reservation for an outdoor table about a week in advance. However, the forecast was bad so I called and spoke with Jessica 2 days in advance as to whether I could keep outdoor booking but move inside if raining. Jessica recommended I move the booking inside but assured me my party could move outside if a nice night. WRONG. Beautiful night and receptionist absolutely declared outside fully booked. I was disappointed but accepted inside table. However, I watched and saw 2 groups arrive, speak to woman who seemed to have some authority and be seated outside. There were also 2 completely empty tables outside ALL night. There are too many great restaurants in Houston to be treated like I was. Won’t be back.

Great place to meet friends for lunch. You order then sit down - inside or out. Very quant & the food is so good! Daily specials & mimosas are A+

Perfect Quaint Brunch Spot

By HRL_22 |

A small line, but moved quickly. Great about updating the menu on the chalkboard. I had the Avocado Chicken Club and it was worth the wait. Great vibes and really enjoyed the setup of having your order placed and then being seated. One improvement would be having waitresses be more attentive to water refills and other needs, but overall a great place for brunch.

Great food, service and location, but expensive

By Judy M |

This is a special place for special occasions, like my daughter's 18th birthday brunch, or a cozy lunch for my husband and I on a date day. It is definitely not a daily or weekly jaunt unless you're rolling in money. The food is very expensive, and the alcoholic drinks are off the chart expensive. Having said all of that, the scenery is enchanting and the wait staff is superb every. single. visit.

Superb food at a great location

By douglasstclair2 |

We had dinner here recently with another couple. The sevice and food were outstanding. We had been previously for lunch. you can;t make a reservation for lunch but you can for dinner. The setting is an old plant nursery so there is exstensive outdoor seating and places for children to play. The evening menu is more extensive than lunch. Our friends had the Seafood Bouillibase and Watercolor, a spicy shrimp and crab dish with herbed butter served over coconut rice. I had the catch of the day which was a wood fire grilled skin on red snapper filet served with champagne buerre blanc and a choice of side. I chose the crispy brussels sprouts. Fantastic. They even showed a more on a sheet outside as we were leaving. Great place.

Relaxing lunch

By Sam S |

A nice lunch with my family. The food did not come as quickly as expected but it was tasty. I enjoyed eating a beet and black bean burger with fruit, but I also had some fries and they were good. The atmosphere is elegant but casual, one might describe it as trendy. It is not the cheapest, but the food is good

Perfect summer evening...

By Kris H |

We had reservations so no problem getting in. We actually ran into long time friends and sat together for a lovely surprise. My husband had espresso rubbed ribeye that he is still talking about a week later. I had the "black and blue" which was a filet and blue cheese risotto. Both excellent. The waiter was top notch with good suggestions. He gave us time to talk and we never felt rushed.

Cute Place

By Sydster13 |

Tiny Boxwood's is a cute place for breakfast, brunch orlunch! They have a wide variety to pick from on the menu. It is moderate in cost. You order first and then select a seat. There is not much inside seating but plenty of outside seating. Heaters are available on one side of the outdoor seating. There is not a lot of parking space so I would suggest carpooling. The food is good. An espresso bar is also available inside as well. It's located in a pretty busy area of town. I recommend it at least once!

Worth the wait

By OskiMoski1 |

The location and set up of this restaurant are amazing! Lovely place for lunch after a day of sight-seeing. The food is very good, too. It takes a bit of time to get through the line to order, but it is smooth sailing after that.

Very Nice Atmosphere

By Alejandro L |

Cosy place close to Galleria in a developing area in Houston. You feel you are in the country side in a very nice house with a beautiful garden. The food was great and the price was not that expensive. Good fish, good desserts.

Fantastic

First time tonight for dinner. Absolutely fantastic. The "Black and Blue" was excellent. Includes blue cheese risotto which is strong but not too strong. And the meat was cooked perfectly. Setting is casually elegant and intimate, service top notch. Nice outdoor area for when the weather is good. By the way, this place has the best chocolate chip cookies on the planet. No kidding. You can pick them up to go, and once you do, you'll never get them anywhere else.
