Food is OK, good value, very good for breakfast. A little busy on weekends.

A friend took me to Tipico's for lunch. He has eaten there for years. The restaurant is a typical local style Tex Mex place...nothing too fancy. Our server was friendly and prompt with chips/salsa, drinks and menus. We had the enchilada lunch specials. The portions were generous and the food was good. For a good Tex Mex meal eat Tipico's when you're in the area.

This is typical Tex-Mex, not interior Mexican as our hotel shuttle driver had claimed. That said, for what it wants to be it is good. They have a wide range of the standard Tex-Mex fare such as burritos, enchiladas, tacos, as well as things you won't find often such as pork in red sauce, pork in tomatillo sauce, mole, nopales, and more. The corn tortillas were good and I might believe they were made on site. The prices were very reasonable, the service was quick and friendly. There's no real atmosphere to speak of - it's tables and chairs with a few TVs. Not knocking it, just saying this isn't the place to go for a romantic evening or anything like that. This is the place to satisfy your craving for Mexican food if you are in the area. I don't know that I would drive across town for this, but again the menu was different enough to be worth a trip if one was inclined. The chips were greasier than I like - turn up the fryer temp - but that didn't stop me from eating a bunch. They brought two salsas, both of which where good and somewhat spicy; I normally don't like things too hot but I was happy with these. The refried beans were a little different than I usually find, and they were different in a good way.

I have been here through out the years and love it!! The most authentic mexican plates and some tex-mex. The tortillas are HAND MADE and they have a great variety of aguas frescas ( fresh fruit water) the waitstaff is always great. Now, please take in consideration before going that week ends and lunch time is ALWAYS PACKED. As in YOU HAVE TO WAIT TO BE SEATED. Yes, It's just that good! If you don't mind waiting, it's worth the wait.

Food is very good and fresh. Reasonable priced. I recommend it to anyone wanting authentic Mexican food.

Service is a bit slow and waitress did not speak English very well. Chips and salsa are very good - there is a hot flavor and a mild one... Very authentic food and tasty!

Being from Sweden you are NOT spoiled with good Mexican food so I asked a local friend about a recommendation for something special. She recommended this place so we gave it a go. When we came in it looked more like a diner than a restaurant. The food was ok, but not more. The hot salsa was five stars thou. The good thing was that it was very cheap.

Love the tortillas and chips! Great for a quick breakfast prior to our flight. Friendly service and authentic ranchero sauce.

In the process of remodeling bare floors but as my cousin said the food is truly Mexican the service great recommendations and personal choices informative

Always great food and amazing service. They serve the most amazing beef enchiladas you could ever ask for. Well kept family secret! If you haven't tried this place your really missing out. Gets extremely crowded at lunch.

I arrived at 12:40 - late lunch. Place was nearly full, and most of the patrons were Hispanic. Good sign. I ordered the lunch special - beef enchiladas, something every Tex-Mex restaurant worth its' salsa does decently. Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment. It didn't taste fresh to me, more like it was prepared last night. And, boy, was it full of lard! I used to like the taste of lard, but not any more. The food was heavy and not very tasty. The rice was bland, as were the beans. And the chips weren't very good either. All in all, a big disappointment. Read my other reviews for better choices in Tex-Mex in the DFW area. Skip this place. Oh, the decor. It doesn't bother me that it's not much to look at. But it is pretty worn. Not a place to take your date!

Five of us went for lunch. Crowded so we had about a 5 minute wait. Once we were seated our server was there with chips and dip and took our drink order. We were quickly brought our drinks and she took our order. It was no more than 7 or 8 minutes and we had our food. It is a large restaurant and every table was full. Portion large, reasonably priced and hot and fresh. The tortillas, corn and flour are made fresh on premises.

We always enjoy a good Mexican meal at Tipico's. Everything taste fresh and is always piping hot. The service is always very good too. They are always quick to replenish the chips(which are excellent), salsa and drinks. Highly recommend trying Tipico's if you are in the area. I do not think you will be disappointed.

OK, you may be like me and have never heard of Tipico's even though you have driven by it a million times. We noticed it one day and saw how packed it was. Did a little research and saw it was popular and well liked. I fell in there and have to say that the food is great. It is one of the best Mexican cafe style places in town. It may be my new favorite. The food is from scratch. The meats are well marinated and tender. The sauces are all fresh and full of flavor. The soups are to die for. If you are from out of town and want to experience what a real Texmex cafe should be, this is it. Other options are Herrera's on Maple and Mia's. But this is a little more down home. Get there early for lunch at it gets packed.

An authentic Mexican restaurant. Fast service, low prices and portions were great. I would highly recommend a stop on your way to the airport (Love). We felt like we were in a popular place with the locals.

I wanted to try a new Mexican spot in hopes of finding a new treasure. The service wa as good and the 2 different hot sauces were good as well. Everything we ordered was good. I did find it odd that I had to valet park at at this place it seemed quite unnecessary.

Don’t be turned away by the location or first appearance. I’ve been coming here for several years and have never had a bad meal. My favorite is tacos al Carbon. You’ll love them. Menudo on weekends always hits the spot. My only negative comment is that sometimes you can’t get a table. But don’t worry you’ll only wait about 15-20 minutes. It’s eell worth the wait.

Excellent fresh home-made Mexican dishes - not fancy but great meals and excellent service. The Beef & potato stew was superb. No margaritas was an initial disappointment, however several beers available. Excellent, inexpensive and close to Dallas Love Field airport.

We had never eaten at Tipico’s restaurant but they had a 4 1/2 star rating and we decided to try it. My husband had a Guisada de res plate and I had a chicken chalupa with a side of rice. We both truly enjoyed the food, everything tasted wonderful, the hot sauce was great, the tea was very sweet so we recommend getting half-and-half. The waitress was very nice made sure we had what we needed and did not mind elaborating about menu items! We definitely recommend this place and definitely plan to visit when we’re in the area again!

This place is incredibly fresh, real authentic.tex mex. They offer a full selection of food, soaps, great salsa, margaritas, Mexican beers and chips. The price point, very affordable - great place to experience Rex mex with a native flare. Try the carne asada...

Only cause I had to give it 1 star otherwise, I would not have given it anything. This is the second time I go in order a caldo de res that has been spoiled. I called today and spoke with Gerardo that stated he was the owner that had a HORRRIBLE attitude. He was very agitated, very short with me, and just overall ugly demeanor. Now, this is the 2nd time this has happened to us. The 1st time I did nothing, but this is twice. I will NEVER go back to eat at this place, ESPECIALLY if he's the owner and has a HORRIBLE ATTITUDE with a PAYING CUSTOMER. He doesn't deserve the business. This is not the only thing that we have experienced at this location on NW Hwy. I only continued coming because we started coming here since they opened and because of the lady that I thought was the owner was very nice and a great cook. I will let my family and friends know of what bad experience we have had here, especially by the owner, Gerardo.

Been going to this Tipico and it never changes. Food is excellent as we moved to the suburbs we still drive there for our authentic breakfast. Service is ok, sometimes very good and since we even went when they were in West Dallas under a different name since the late 70's. Waitress of course know us and some are new. We drove down this week and the usual waitress that I really like were not there. We got a sort of new one and she was awful. When we go early they usually give out chips and hot sauce. We asked for it and she said ok, will bring you'll some. Well we waited and she kept waiting on other customers when she could easily bring us ours first and do it quickly. We waited for our food to come out in 15 min or longer. I finally had to go up to the front and asked for it myself. We wanted coffee and we had to wave her down. Place was over 3/4 empty. I had to use their restroom hoping the toilet was fixed. Last time I had to keep punching the top of the open toilet to flush. I told the cashier that time needed to fix or get a new one. That was 2 weeks ago. This time it would not flush because it would not fill up with water. I heard someone knocking and I yell " BUSY" and then she was knocking hard on the door. I had waited for someone to finish when I went in. This person was knocking the door down and I had just gotten in. I finally opened and told her what was wrong with the toilet and this worker just kept looking at her cell phone. She was not a waitress. Young iall in black. That is the only thing I dislike, the owner will not fix things when it needs fixing as she has so many customers, This owner is a millionaire for sure. The blinds have been there for 25 years I bet and very dusty. She doesn't want to get new ones. I don't want the dust to get in the food. Surprise inspectors don't come. But food is excellent and cook very clean. Waitresses that been there for years are very good except a few new ones that are not. Also the waitresses have to clean up the tables when owner could afford to get help. They also have to be the cashier when owner could afford to get a cashier. I hate waving them down. So food is good, just hope their restroom would be in good working order and get extra help these waitresses out. My friend hates going there because of the dust on blinds and water glasses chip etc. B

My Mexican friend invited me to go to Tipico's with her family. While it is run down and my waitress didn't speak English, the food spoke for itself. I ordered the tacos al carbon that came with a side of rice and beans and I devoured the whole meal! The tacos were tender and juicy. The beans were the best refried beans I've had in Texas. I usually don't eat the rice that you get at Mexican restaurants but I didn't even leave one grain of rice on my plate! I would definitely return to curb my Mexican food cravings!

We were looking for Taqueria Aranda which is one of our favorite places to eat and especially since our kids are picky. So with GPS guiding the way were found that the location was closed. We saw that Tipicos was full and had a line waiting so with that we made a decision to try it out. A good decision I must say. The food was good but the service could have been a little better. The place was packed and a tad bit loud but it was well worth the risk. When we left the restaurant we found the new location of Taqueria Aranda which was tucked on a side street just in front of Tipicos. We wouldn’t mind visiting them again!

Tortilla chips were cold. The salsa was OK, especially the hot salsa. We split the chicken soup "coldas de pollo". No white meat to be found. all thigh meat on the bone. Very disgusting Broth tasted like chicken bones. The only thing that saved that soup was the lime and the rice and the small piece of corn. Wife had the tacos el carbon. Tortillas were loaded with lard. She ate one of the three and got a takeout. I threw out the other two when we got home as I wasn't looking forward to eating grisly beef in a lard tortilla. I had the mole de pollo. The mole sauce was fine but the chicken was all thigh meat, no white meat. and the meat was in chunks, not a nice slab breast. The decor was absolutely disgusting. The paneling was dirty and chipped. The formica table tops were worn and dirty. The icing on the cake was the dirty concrete floor. For all y'all who swear this is authentic mexican food, y'all can keep it. I'll never be back.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this is the place! We ate breakfast here, and EVERYTHING was delicious. The homemade tortillas are marvelous!

Good food. Authentic Mexican food. Not fancy but quick and tasty. Can be crowded at times due to the good food.

Stopped for breakfast after a walk on Bachman Lake. It is a family atmosphere with authentic Mexican and great service. Pictures do not do the food justice. Plate size not too large and not too small. Very popular but did not have to wait. Valet parking made it very convenient. Easy to find on Highway 12.

We went on Sunday afternoon and we had to wait 15 minutes but it was worth it. The chips and salsas are great, the tacos and rice and beans were delicious. Service was quick too for as busy as they were.

One of my favorite Mexican places! A great family place! It's Tex-Mex, but definitely leans towards real Mexican. The food's great, and I love the servers/managers/owners! I love their verdé, or red pork guisada (stew). Try it with the nopalites (prickly pear cactus). When it's raw, it's somewhat fibrous, somewhat the texture of radishes or jicama, but not as crisp. It has a fairly bland, I want to say avocado taste, but that's not right. Most Texans have probably never tried prickly pear, yet it grows all over Texas, and Fiesta sells a ton of it. I don't even see it that much at the taquerias I go to (maybe just me). I also like their carnitas which I don't always find in Dallas; although, that may be my ignorance. Definitely good guacamole. I'm not ashamed to admit I like my "gringo" crispy beef tacos :~) It's probably just me, but I just like them there more than any place in Dallas. The daily lunch choices are a @deal (Friday's my crispy taco day 🌮 ;-) Also, take home some tortillas, cooked, or fresh (to cook yourself later so they're hot, and fresh). I think they're maybe $6 a dozen (as of 5/2024)?? There's a lot of great Tex-Mex places in Dallas, and a fair amount of real Mexican (tons if you count taquerias), but you should try this one! Christ is love! Believe in Him :) Sorry, I speak very little Spanish ;-) the following is a Google Translator version: One of my favorite Mexican places! A great family place! I have been going to Tipico's, several times a month, for over 20 years because my husband and I love their food. They have the most authentic HOME-STYLE Mexican comfort food you will ever find. Free chips and salsas are brought to your table with your drink order. If you are looking for a fancy, Tex-Mex restaurant then this is not the place for you.. they are located in a no frills former Pizza Hut, but the place is clean and the staff is pleasant. They are extremely busy Thursdays and Fridays during lunch hour, and Saturdays and Sundays during breakfast through lunch hours. Parking, along with waiting for a table, can be an issue at these times.

Fajitas for $5 on certain days. Everyday the prices are great. This is a definitely "hole in the wall" but is one of my favorite places in Dallas.

The place is packed during lunch... with locals... meaning, excellent and authentic Mexican cooking. The service was swift and staff are courteous... Parking is small, but get here before the crowd and you will enjoy that sumptuous meal you're longing for... Get the Guisado Pollo Tacos, Fajitas, and Chicken Enchiladas. Enjoy ..

Was in Dallas for a couple days taking care of family business. Brother and I decided to go to Tipicos about 7pm based on location and reviews. We were not disappointed. We were told to seat ourselves in one of the booths available. Not crowded they had a steady business throughout the meal. Brother is from California and is used to good Mexican food. He had the shrimp dish with rice and beans. Looked good. He said it was very good. I had beef fajitas subbing sour cream for the guacamole (as I don't care for guacamole) with rice and beans. Was mildly surprised at how large the helping of fajitas was. I couldn't eat it all. The rice was moist not dry like a lot of fancy places that I've experienced and beans had a nice mild homemade taste. Everything was very tasty. Fajitas were not steak but some type of very tender beef like roast. Lots of beef mixed with an appropriate amount of green peppers and onions. Other dishes I observed such as enchiladas, soup, tostadas, etc. looked very authentic The sodas were mixed just right and were free refills. Two lightly spicy red sauces were offered with the fried homemade tortilla chips prior to receiving entrees. One sauce seemed liked it was made from canned tomatoes and was just ok. The other sauce tasted more homemade and you could see bits of cilantro in it. The homemade corn tortillas served with the entrees were good, warm, and moist. We had a choice of corn or flour tortillas. The place is not fancy but acceptable. It's an old Pizza Hut. Seems to be a family run business. Food authentic and very good based upon my experience living in the Midwest. I'm used to tge sour cream, heavy cheese, shredded lettuce laden Mexican food. This was not like that. Service was efficient though the waitress had trouble understanding everything but she understood enough, was pleasant and efficient. She knew her job. We did not wait very long for food nor have to ask for refills on soda. We spent about $25 for 2 large sodas 2 entrees which included chips and dip. I highly recommend this budget friendly place for family, friends, dates, etc. if you like good homemade Mexican food and want the come as you are relaxed atmosphere.

I liked the unlimited tacos that they serve complementary more than any of their main cuisines. Still the servings are pretty big and service is good.

Friendly, fast and delicious! A very “Dallas” feel. Cops, truck drivers, lawyers, business men. And the food is bad ass. Get the number 37 and don’t look back. Pork guisado in red sauce is the bomb. But the green is fantastic too. I love the red guisado so much that I haven’t tried the soups and other home-style dishes. Don’t waste your order on boring Tex-Mex (fajitas, burritos, etc). Get the posole and other dishes they don’t serve at Chili’s. Cold beer. Rabid Dallas Cowboys fans. A gritty side of the city but a great meal.

Folks, I've been coming to Tipico's for more than 10 years, and it is authentic Mexican food that is very well made and consistent every time. I met a buddy of mine here for breakfast on Saturday and the place was busy, as usual. We both had their Huevos con Chorizo with handmade flour tortillas and it did not disappoint. I love hole-in-the-wall joints like this because the emphasis is on the quality of the food and not the ambiance or the amazing interior finish-out. It is clean, comfortable and welcoming, so if you're in the mood for great Mexican Breakfast, this is definitely the place to come.

Stopped by for some very good Tex Mex. Kinda had a local vibe. Food brought out in a timely fashion food very good and the beers all from Mexico and brew in Mexico, which I think are better. We staff very attentive and efficient.

I raved to my nephew and sister in law so we went for lunch. They ordered what I usually do because I said how I always have the Burritos de Guizo con Guacamole plate. Well it was just disappointing this time. Not enough meat or guacamole this time, but the service was good and salsa tasty. I will continue to patronize here as I'm hoping this was an off day.

A friend at work told me about this place and I finally took my wife there. Simply put, the food was delicious, staff was friendly and they did not take a long time to serve your food. The plate was huge (to me) and I was so pleased with the authentic flavor of the food. My wie and I thoroughly enjoyed and will be back.

If you are looking for Good, Cheap and Authentic - but a little Tex Mex as well, This is the place. Breakfast ,Lunch and Dinner are all Great. Owner and Family run the Restaurant so the place is very friendly. Parking is Ruff but worth the wait. Average cost $8-12 per meal.
Ok visit
Arrived 30 minutes before closing so should be happy we were served. Tripas taco was good.. Flauta plate was also good and had good portion. Only complaint is the $2 charge to add chirizo to the beans. That is way too much...more than a side if beans and rice. Waitress and checkout person not too friendly, but food was ok. Would probably return for the tripas.
