First and possibly last visit

By Tim R |

We went there for a church fundraiser and had to RSVP in advance. Even though they knew how many people were going to be there they were still painfully understaffed. It took over an hour after ordering to get our food. The chicken piccata was pretty good but first they ran out of salad then they ran out of dessert. How can you do that when you have a limited menu to begin with?

Take out on weekends

By Andy O |

Very big price difference from weekdays to weekends. I accidentally ordered our usual from here and for 4 items I received a big surprise with no assistance should have just said never mind. During week the 4 items cost $43.08 and same on weekends cost is $95.97 wow! What a rip-off! It’s my last time from here. Olive Garden you can get a tour of Italy with basically 3 meals in one for $17.99. I called to let them know I was disappointed with order and they offered nothing! So yeah never returning!

Tasty lunch

By vivspy |

We ordered garlic knots - YUMMy!! I had salmon carpaccio and it was good- less olive oil more capers and it would have been perfect. A very acceptable house Pinot Grigio made for a pleasant$20 lunch- comfortable space to chat with a friend!

Molto bene!

By FamigliaPena |

Great food and service. The price is excellent for authentic, delicious Italian food. The ambience was perfect for my wife and me, and the kitchen manager came out to greet us and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The only suggestions I have for improvement are to: 1) Have the staff refrain from calling out loudly to each other (unless a New York City vibe is what you’re looking for). 2) Sweep up the dead ivy in the outdoor seating area. We enjoyed sitting outside, but would have had an even nicer experience if it was a bit cleaner. Overall, a delightful experience, and we will return soon with friends. Ciao!

Incredible Visit

By JnsTwc1987 |

Not sure if the food or the space was my favorite, but regardless I would go back over and over for both. The food was awesome and the service exceptional...but to be honest I would go just for the atmosphere and decor. Loved it!!

Wonderful Italian food.

By kittysquirrel |

Always wanted to check this place out. Finally visited to scope it out for a group luncheon. We were not disappointed plus we will be back with our group.. Though it is in a storefront they can handle large groups, though do request you make arrangements ahead. We were not disappointed with any thing we ordered, it was fresh and portions were generous. The Eggplant Rollatini appetizer was enough for a meal and very saucy too. Great to mop up with the wonderful butter dripping fresh rolls they started us with. The Fried Calamari was lightly battered and fried crispy. The addition of fried onion strings and fried Arugula was a pleasant surprise. Save room for the Chocolate Torte. It was a light chocolaty confection.

Outstanding Italian restaurant on the West Side

By vanepps107 |

We were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, the food and the excellent service in an area that is better known for its Tex/Mex food. We had Shrimp Scambi (at our request they substituted an Alfredo Sauce), glazed Salmon, Chicken Mix Picatta and Eggplant Parm. All were delicious. The ambiance is both inviting and upscale. But our server, Eddie, was the best part of the evening. His knowledge of food and his willingness to insure we had a great experience made this a delightful stop!

Superb Sandwiches and Ambiance

By DMPalmer42 |

They make their own focaccia bread for their sandwiches -- and they are delicious and enormous! We usually go there for lunch and enjoy sitting on their patio and having our feast. We often order the full sandwich, knowing that we will be able to take half home for later. The waiters are polite and prompt and the décor inside is lovely.

Try This Rstuarnt

By Robert F |

This is a small, cozy place. The name means “Two Step” which is explained by the fact that in the same shopping center is another restaurant of American food by the same chef/owner called Two Step (in English). I’m told the name comes from the process for making their burgers, not from a cowboy dance. So they kept the same name for their Italian restaurant. When I write a review I start with five stars and then reduce the rating for perceived faults or limitations. In this case, I just couldn’t find any. The service was great, the food was great, the atmosphere was great. Hence, a deserved five stars. Ironically, I gave Two Step four stars because of greasy food and poor service. But not here. It isn’t an easy place to find, especially with highway construction all around it, but it is worth going out of your way.

Off the beaten path gem

By BoonieStomper99 |

This was my 2nd visit here and, once again, they did not disappoint. We visited on a Saturday night at 7 pm without a reservation. We were immediately seated. First of all, the place smells wonderful. They need to sell their smell because it is amazing. The appetizers are very good, the food is very good, the waiter could have been better, but that's being picky. If you are in the north or east and do not want to battle downtown traffic, this spot will make you very happy.

Best Italian outside Italy

By Steven S |

When stationed in Germany, I had ample opportunity to eat real Italian. Some were Italians plying their trade in Germany and true Italian restaurants in northern Italy. Now, I have tried several places in San Antonio. While TEXMEX food is widely available elsewhere, Italian not so much. This is the real deal. I would ignore the negatives and try this place.

delicious nontraditional italian

By AlamoAnny |

This is not a place to find Italian dishes like lasagna, ravioli, etc but inventive modern takes on pasta, seafood, and brick oven pizza. The chickens marsalla was heavenly. The calamari has a lovely light breading and fried lemon slices and arugala along with the squid. I have been to many artisan pizza places and wasn't impressed but the crust here is something special. I usually leave my crusts but theses are crisp and chewy outside and light and fluffy inside. There is inside and outside seating. On a busy night service was slow but very prompt when not as busy. There is a full bar and lots of take out orders being picked up.

Always love this place

By Susieangelgirl16 |

This is not the easiest place to find but worth it to check out. Our son took me there. I always get the chicken piccata and have never been disappointed. They now offer it 2 ways, one the more traditional recipe and the other is with capers and artichokes. Apparently the pizza is good because many people order it but I can’t bring myself to order anything else but the piccata. My husband always enjoys his entree and always gets something different. Prices are mid to high range but we don’t mind paying a little more to get a chef prepared meal.

Missed the mark.

We've had our eye on this local place for a while, and finally decided to give it a try. They don't take reservations (at least not that I could find), so we tried our luck on a weekend early evening. We arrived early enough to be seated without a wait, but shortly thereafter a line formed. The place was busy, and cramped. We were seated next to a lot of traffic, with the occasional bumping of my chair. The waiter was nice, though a little inattentive at times. The complimentary garlic knots were a bit hard, to my surprise, but the flavor was good. Our family ordered a few things, including the Roulade, pizza, and meatballs. The roulade was good, as was the pizza. The meatballs were a disappointment for a lot of reasons. I'd say they were perhaps frozen, but I've tasted better frozen meatballs. They were overcooked, dry, and an odd off-flavor (freezer?). Fortunately, there were only a few small meatballs. The dish was mostly pasta and sauce. The pasta and sauce were good until a piece of plastic bag got stuck in my teeth. Between that and the meatballs, I struggle to believe the food is fresh or handmade....perhaps the pizza? At least one other reviewer mentioned a similar occurrence with plastic. Management did their best to resolve the situation, but we will not be returning.

Stopped in after my daughter's High School Graduation. She loves Italian and the reviews were excellent. It turns out the reviews were correct. We had eight adults eating and the first thing we noticed was the excellent service by our waiter. He was efficient without being overbearing. The food was also excellent and well plated. I had the Chicken Piccata and I would say it is the best chicken I have eaten in several years. Everyone else in my party stated the same thing. The place is nicely decorated. I was surprised that there were not more people eating as it was close to empty. But that could be due to it being a Monday.

Fresh Italian at a great price

By D6830KAdavidd |

If you like Two Step Rest. and Cantina, this place is owned by the same group. There are two of these in SA. Once seated you get complimentary fresh garlic knots (hot bread) to enjoy with your dink. They have a good wine selection and beer on tap (Peroni is my favorite). Order the classic chicken piccatta - very fresh and the pasta is lightly buttered. There are multiple pasta dishes to choose from along with custom pizza choices. Never had dessert but there are choices there too. If you sit on the high table tops you can see the cooks in the kitchen - nothing to hide. Enjoy.

awesome

Visited this restaurant for a late lunch with my two best friends.. I had the pesto pasta and it was great, we even enjoyed dessert.. This is a must visit again place.

A Possible Neighborhood Regular Spot

By Lawrence B |

While running some errands during the day, we spotted Tiu Steppi's Osteria and tried it for dinner that same night. We started small with olives and bread. There were 5-6 olives of various kinds which I definitely enjoyed. They were served with garlic knots which did not skimp on the garlic. The olives had a very tasty, seasoned oil coating which was wonderful on the garlic knots. My wife chose the roasted potato pizza, which had thin sliced potatoes, roasted garlic and sun-dried tomatoes and grilled onions. The thin crust was a hit, but the toppings didn't make it very close to the edge. Overall, we both liked the pizza, but would have preferred a meat topping instead of the potatoes. (P.S., the pizza tasted better when eaten cold a few days later. ) I ordered the prosciutto with yellow and green pasta. It came with onions, peas, and Asiago cream sauce. It was a big hit with both of us and I managed to finish the good-sized portion. Our server mentioned that they would be adding some new items in the near future. In fact, we saw diners having wedge salads that are not on the menu, but will soon be. We think Tiu Steppi's could become one of our neighborhood regular spots.

Not sure what happened to this formerly good restaurant

By deedstx |

We went in on a Sunday afternoon, and asked for a low table, explaining that the bar tables hurt my son's back ( he's going in for back surgery soon). The man who sat us told us that it would be at least 20 minutes before one of the empty dirty low tables would be cleaned. So we took a bar table, but my son was in pain within a few minutes and couldn't even eat his food. We had to pay and leave. It was such a disappointment, because we brought other people with us, and kept apologizing for the restaurant. Indeed, it took at least twenty minutes before anyone cleaned any of the dirty tables in the restaurant. I'm not sure we'll be back.

Exquisite

By mhorn490 |

The most amazing sauce! I had the saltimboca which was just perfect. Decorated lovely, everything in great condition. Prepared quickly. Wait staff great. Several wine options. Moderately priced. You won't regret going.

Chicken pesto is the best!

By Jennifer D |

Went with family and I had the checked pesto pasta. It includes spinach and sun dried tomatoes. It was a little salty, but super tasty! My cousins son got the meatball sandwich and lived it. My cousin swears by the chicken Marsala. Also, don't forget to try the garlic bread knots. So yummy!

So yummy!

By Amanda B |

After apartment hunting in SA, a friend and I came here for dinner based on another friend's recommendation. Coming from New York, I'm ALWAYS skeptical of Italian food, especially pizza. While Tiu Steppi's wasn't quite New York pizza, it wasn't that far off. Our food was great, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Our server was also incredibly friendly and gave us some great suggestions. And the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a great spot for friends, a date, or just a casual meal out. I highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for some tasty, fairly-priced Italian food and wine!

This place!

(Bulverde road location). Chicken Picatta...Delicious! Tiramisu...Amazing! Pizza...Fantastic. Love this restaurant. Can't wait to go back.

Wonderful sauce!

By Rick Stiles |

The Lasagna with a marinara/ Asiago sauce was to die for. The meatballs on angel hair pasta was filling and wonderfully mixed in with meat marinara. Topped off with great gelato. This is a restaurant you don’t want to miss-in San Antonio!

Great Quality Italian Faire'

By Mike B |

This is a great restaurant located in North San Antonio (Uptown) just off 1604. The pizza oven serves up great pizza's FAST! There are New additions to the menu. But some of my favorites are Chicken Piccatta, Prosciutto Yellow & Green Pasta, and Shrimp Pomodoro, This is what this part of town needed...

Pizza was good...

By Anne V |

Chicken Marsala was a mess!!! Pasta overcooked and stuck together, sauce all over the dish. Tasty, but unattractive dish. Restaurant advertised as having "craft beers" -- not exactly!!!

Food was top notch, we’ll be back

By Lynette A |

We were pleasantly surprised— seems to be an excellent locally owned restaurant in the middle of predominantly Alamo Ranch area of chains and fast-food restaurants. We had the mussels with the white wine sauce which was excellent. Lasagna and seafood pasta very good. Loved the rolls. Took home an order of tiramisu, big enough to share. We will be back. Kinda wish they had a nice bar to sit at, but it’s okay.

Disappointed again

By 365Michele365 |

My sister convinced me to return to Tiu Steppi after being away for over a year. When it first opened, the food was fabulous! I had been there several times. More than a year ago, I went there and ordered spaghetti. The pasta tasted like it wasn’t fresh. I know the taste of pre-prepped pasta and know from my years working food service that prepping pasta and storing in plastic bags is common. To pay $14.99 for a plate that has a food cost of about maybe $2, I was upset and vowed not to return. Last night, we ordered a veggie pizza. The crust was sub-par and burned on the bottom. The veggies were cold and unseasoned and the upper crust was doughy. The wedge salad and service, however, was superb. I won’t return which makes me sad being that I prefer to support independently-owned businesses and it is such a sweet location.

Great foo

By Lisa G |

The food here is great! Love the antipasto plate and everything else I've had has been awesome. Don't think you can go wrong with this place as it has it all.

Amazing Italian food, reasonably priced!

By Ed K |

Great food, great service, and very reasonable prices. Everything we tried on the lunch menu was delicious, particularly the Chicken Piccata with pasta. The pasta tasted like it was freshly made. Complimentary bread was also delicious. Casual dress with classic decor. We will definitely go back.

Everything excellent

By martycrna |

Great place for great food, atmosphere & service. Excellent appetizers and entrees. We’ve also come during their Happy Hour and had a good time. Please try this place. You’ll be happy you did.

Love this place, especially for a date!

By april_clark |

This is a frequent date night spot for us. Great service, great food, and great atmosphere! The Creme Brulee is their best dessert. Their pizza crust is delish! We love to get a bottle of Arsonist wine to share. Yum!

Excellent Experience

By JDS |

Found via previous reviews, we had an outstanding dinner and will add this restaurant to our list of "must visit" locations whenever we are in San Antonio. We thoroughly enjoyed our antipasto dish of roasted artichoke hearts. Our four entrees included the Shrimp Arrabiatta, the Chicken Piccatta, the Ravioli, and the Saltimboca. All were excellent, with very good portions.

Great Italian Food!

By TRZ4MR |

This was our first visit to Tiu Steppi’s. We started our meal with complimentary garlic knot bread, amazing. Followed by Bruschetta. Best we ever had. Topped off the meal with their Italian pizza. Again, amazing. All that and our server was perfect. We will definitely be back! We highly recommend this place.

Great Italian food

By RGC28 |

The food at Tiu Steppi is delicious! You must try the chicken piccata--especially when it is on the "specials"! It's by far the best I have ever eaten! The calamari with the fried lemons is superb! Besides the awesome food, the service is outstanding!! We never had to wait for refills and the food was quick! The management cares about you as evidenced by the personal touch as they stop by your table. The restaurant is small, but in my opinion, that is not a problem. Give it a try--you will love it!

Fine Dining and Popular

By Steven S |

Uncle Sam sent me to Europe where I learned to appreciate fine Italian food. Up until a few weeks ago, I have been disappointed with the cross-Atlantic interpretation of Italian cuisine. Tiu Steppi's Osteria is a pleasant surprise. Don't let the strip mall location fool you. Although Osteria generally means "wine and simple food" there is nothing simple about this place. The reduced balsamic vinegar on the caprese salad is delicious. The pizza is as close to real Italian as I have found in Texas. The service did suffer a bit as this place has been packed, a true indication of it's popularity. So if you expect fast Italian food, go elsewhere. If you want good food and an atmosphere for a special occasion, try it.

Oh Yummo!!!!

By AteamMom11 |

Food is melt in your mouth! They have Italian and craft beers on tap. House wine is great, but they have a great selection of bottles and by-the-glass, too! This place is pretty quiet at lunchtime. Early dinner hours are full of families, and later dinner hours are full of couples and adults. In Italian Osteria style, the seating is all close together and the servers are all in constant motion around you with a full view into the kitchen. They have a great outdoor seating area, too. If you get there and it is crowded, order a drink and wait outside... it's worth the wait! Many neighborhood people call ahead and order pizzas to go. We regularly order the Brie and Mushroom pizza that is HEAVENLY! As well as a salad and whatever is on special for the day (usually a well prepared meat or seafood dish). My kids love to eat here, but I also sneak away there with my husband for a long dining date and with girlfriends for lunch! It is located in a shopping center at Loop 1604 and Braun Road... and is run by the same people as the bigger restaurant nearby (Two Step, which is also yummy, but totally different cuisine). You can come dressed casually, but if you come to late dinner, I would dress up a bit... Whatever you do, come hungry and don't forget to ask for the garlic bread knots! DELISH!!!!!

Best Italian food in San Antnio

By Michael O |

Small intimate restaurant. Great wine selection. Great Italian food. Excellent service and friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Great Italian restaurant with knowledgeable waitstaff.

By AHollis64 |

Happened upon this restaurant by chance and very glad. Nice restaurant with very knowledgeable wait staff. our waiter was very helpful with choosing a good wine from their wine list. No small children running around screaming. I will dine here again when I return to San Antonio.

Beautiful Restaurant....food disappointing

By headduckd |

Went here after reading the rave reviews. Pasta dishes were limited so I went with BBQ Chicken Pizza. I would guess it was about 60% crust and very, very limited chicken. Wife had the chicken piccata which was average. For the price, I expected more...very disappointed and will not be back. Sorrento's is still by far the best Italian in San Antonio!

Best italian food in san antonio!!!

By Satraveler54 |

Just returned from a week in vegas sampling some of the best of the best restaurants. Tiu Steppi's quality rates equal! My husband ordered a pizza, fresh and yummy!! I ordered eggplant! Delicious, yummy large portions! We also enjoyed the choice of music and our server was wonderful(Sean).

Nice Place

Big parking lot shared with other business ! So you might have to walk ! Good food ... a little pricey !

Amazing with a capital A

By Holly W |

The food tasted amazing and came out fast! We had the fried mozzarella; it comes with dabs of pesto sauce as well as marinara, both were tasty. The garlic knots with accompanying dip are addictive. They have an interesting assortment of pizzas, chicken and broccoli is delish! Chicken Saltimbocca tastes fresh and, love the prosciutto combined with white sauce and artichokes. Staff was helpful and inside ambiance was rustic and modern? Very cool.

Worth the trip

By LDT |

Dinner out with the family and it was well worth the trip. The food was interesting and our waitress could not have been nicer or more attentive to the little people in our party

Upscale ambiance, delcious food

By Emmie567 |

This is our favorite Italian restaurant in San Antonio - Braun location is the only one we've tried. Everything we've ever ordered has been superb, and the quality is consistent. I recommend the Chicken Piccatta and Busted Sandal Porter. The house chianti is surprisingly good too. Yum! The décor is fabulous, warm, and inviting. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner.

Small, strip-mall restaurant with GREAT food!

By Napunani |

This strip-mall restaurant is selling its self-short with such a small restaurant! Wonderfully delicious food and terrific service, but was a bit noisy. We stopped by on a Friday evening before 6pm and got the last of their 15 tables. Efforts are underway to provide seating in the front by adding a patio, but you'll have a grand view and noise of the strip mall parking area. I had one of the evening's special, chicken piccata on angel hair pasta. EXCELLENT!! Added a caprese salad which was good, but could of used a bit more drizzle of balsamic reduction. Hubby selected from the menu, pasta and meatballs, served with fettuccini pasta, which was overcooked, but the sauce was excellent. We ordered a carafe of wine, which not many places offer, as it works better for us than purchasing a bottle. For dessert we shared cannoli’s filled with Ricotta cheese mix with lemon zest and topped pistachios. I think they forgot to add the lemon zest...

Overall really nice experience. It was not crowded on a Tuesday evening, and the ambiance made it a wonderful experience. The menu offered a large Italian selection, almost overwhelming. Danny did a great job and the food was very good with a nice blend of spices.

Delicious

By rosalindac857 |

We visited for my birthday. We enjoyed a great wine recommend by our waiter. Calamari appetizers were delicious. Our entrees were filling, we took home left overs. The interior is deceiving especially from the outside. Quaint and a great place for date night. We plan to return soon.

First time, will return

By TOMMUR |

My wife, grandson and I ate there on Sunday. This was our first time and the experience was great. I had the chicken parmesan, my wife had the eggplant parmesan and grandson had a pasta dish. All the meals were very tasty, hot and large portions. We will return again. Our waitress Lxican was very pleasant and professional.

Great food!

By Heiðar A |

I can't fault this place fantastic food and service. Loved this place and I'm definitely coming back.

Excellent Lunch Spot

By Susan M |

This is an excellent place to meet for lunch. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy. It wasn't overly crowded and the wait staff was very attentive. The muffaletta was awesome. I ordered the half size and it was plenty. It was served with soup or salad. The salad that I ordered was very fresh with crisp greens and ripe sweet tomatoes. I will return at another time and try the pizza….they looked really good!!!!

Amazing food and great customer service

By Sarah_Nike |

This place is amazing. The food is homemade and not mass produced, made to order. The atmosphere is great too. Definitely will be going back and recommend this to anyone.

Italian - Something Different

By Hank956 |

Wanted something different than our usual. Stopped for gas and wala, there is Italian nearby. Great little place. Indoor and outdoor seating. Pick your pleasure, we chose inside but it was a bit chilly, no problem with had light jackets. Limited but extensive menu for lunch and dinner. The pizzas were different but the pastas were familiar. Started with calamari. I liked it, just like the once I had just visited in Atlanta. Great calamari, with fried Meyers lemon slices and fried parsley. I ordered the chicken piccata, son BBQ chicken pizza and wife sausage and pepperoni, 12 inch. The food came out and the pizzas could have fed 2 each. My son loved his BBQ chicken, old but he liked it. My wife liked her pizza, good crust, needed salt. My piccata was great but odd. Kinda of deconstructed. pasta on the bottom, a lightly breaded chicken breast done in oven, one roasted artichoke, and. Roasted onions and pancetta. Once again it was great. Just needed a little more sauce and lemon for my usual taste. The serving was huge and had to take half home. There is a chef's steak selection ,not listed what it is, because it changes. The table next to ours had it and it good looking. Prices low to moderate. 8$ for the calamari GREAT. Want something different give it a try. A must eat. "Will be back"

Wow! What a blessing!

By James M |

This restaurant was not our original choice, but it should have been. We stumbled across Tiu Steppi, quite by accident, or was it providence? Either way we were very fortunate. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting, we felt right at home. The service was outstanding, they were prompt, friendly and attentive, without being intruding. However the food was the best part. The antipasto plate came with a nice variety of meats, cheese, olives and greens. The garlic knots were hot and delicious. The main dishes, chicken pesto pasta and ravioli were served in generous proportions and bringing with flavor. The cost was reasonable and over all this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. If you are in San Antonio, I highly recommend that you look them up. You will be happy you did.

Consistently Good

By J K |

This restaurant is a short distance from our home and we have visited it a few times. Having tried various dishes, the food has always been quite good, with plentiful portions and decent flavors. The service has always been exceptional. The ambiance has a pleasant but subtle European feel, slightly reminiscent of an Italian street bistro. In all, it is an enjoyable place to eat, and we will be sure to return. It is a little secluded and understated in a shopping center just off the main road but worth seeking out.

A Real Italian Menu

By AdventureWriterMN |

So good! I think the food is better that their original restaurant the Two Step. Wish there was one in Minnesota!

Good value above average

By shipjim1 |

A very nice trendy decor. A good variety of dishes.from pizza to chicken picatta. Everything we had was quite good with substantial portions. We had Carbonerra, Chicken Picatta, Chicken Saltimboca. Fried lemon and calamari, and Garlic bread knots (yum). The server was friendly and knowledgeable. I thought the booths were crowded together and the A/C was too cool. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Pizza??????

By Bsuttie |

Had a craving for pizza...a dangerous mood to be in for a Chicagoan in Texas...we understand everything is bigger in Texas, that's cool. But we think, if your out of Italian gravy (pizza sauce), you should just tell the customer that instead of pretending to make pizza with no pizza sauce and no visible mozzarella. Assembly? Pepperoni should not be thrown on, leaving it in clumps of 3-4 slices stacked together and when you order 1/2 sausage, all of the sausage meat, on our pizza, was concentrated on 2 slices, that's not half. Somebody needs to go back to school. This is not pizza !!!! The crust was excellent and the pizza could be great with a little attention to the basics. There's other pizza places near us.

Out of town visitors

By Marla H |

Great local Italian restaurant to take out of town visitors or just enjoy yourself. Quiet atmosphere with nice decor. Plenty of menu choices for any appetite. Not your ordinary chain restaurant....which is great, because I prefer the local eateries.

Avoid!

By Connie D |

I have gone to this restaurant multiple times over the years and have recommended it to multiple friends but I will no longer recommend this restaurant. They wouldn't allow a take out order. Ruined Valentine's Day!

Great service

By Robert F |

The lovely ambiance and excellent service from Robert saved a rating of four stars, even though the food was disappointingly three stars, meaning average. We had a make-your-own pizza that just didn’t make it. The crust, the paucity of tomato sauce and cheese, just didn’t come together with the four ingredients that we picked. Our artichoke heart appetizer was much better, and fully deserving of four stars. We have eaten here before and been pleased, but now we are saying to ourselves we won’t be back for a while. Twice will last us well into the future while we try other restaurants for the first time. I prefer to have some gluten-free choices. I made an exception and paid the price.

Incredible Chicken Roulade

By MarciSAT |

I came with my family to celebrate my nephew's birthday. I couldn't decide between Chicken Marsala or Chicken Roulade. I asked the waiter and he suggested the latter. The Chicken Roulade was very, very good. I enjoyed every bite and couldn't stop eating it even though I was full. I even told the waiter it was the best thing I've eaten in months. I will definitely be back for this excellent dish!

What happened? Disappointed.

By Red196570 |

Tiu Steppis had been our weekly favorite since the restaurant opened. The setting is small and intimate which is surprising for a strip center location. We had always been pleased with the food until recently. The calamari appetizer looks like a generous portion when it arrives at the table. A closer look reveals an abundance of fried lemon slices and fried parsley with very little calamari. The garlic knots are a hit or miss, cold one visit and burned the next visit. Our go to favorite entree had been the chicken piccata. The chicken piccata we have had on most recent visits leaves much to be desired and must be a recipe change. Why change a great thing?

Excellent dinner with friends

By Carol and Jack |

We had an excellent dinner! Service was and food was excellent. The pizza’s and Italian entrees were very good. Great place and atmosphere.

Another disappointment in San Antonio

By MES1948 |

Another disappointing restaurant in San Antonio. the food was very mediocre. Artichokes for the appetizer were not grilled as stated , seemed baked. pasta dishes were also just so/so . Skip this one

Very enjoyable & relaxing meal!

By Trudy H |

This was our first visit (the Braun location) & we would definitely return if in the area. I ordered the ravioli - Manchego Cheese, Pistachios, and Spinach filling topped with Porcini Mushroom Cream, Shallots, and Parmesan. There were 4 ravioli which were delicious & more than enough. However, I would have liked one more in the center where there was a mound of greens (raw spinach?), with shallots & a few mushrooms. Overall, the dish had too many shallots for me but not too many mushrooms. The sauce was very tasty. My husband ordered the Chicken Piccatta, a large portion, which he said was very good. We also had garlic knots & split a Caesar salad. For our complimentary dessert, we chose the tiramisu & coffee.

Outstanding Italian Dining

By James S |

We ate at Tiu Steppi's on our last visit to San Antonio so we knew we HAD to eat here again on this trek. We had another outstanding dinner and we were exceptionally pleased. I had the Shrimp Saltimbocca and my wife had the Chicken Piccata, both of which were exceptional. What made this visit extra special was the hospitality of the staff. When we arrived, there was no real room for our party of six. At first apologetic that we could not immediately be seated indoors, the hostess took action to request a couple seated at a table for four to make room so she could move a vacant two-person table together to meet our needs. They graciously agreed to move and our dining adventure began. Well done Tiu Steppi's!

Bread Knots?

By Thomas H |

Went here for the first time with some buddies to celebrate a birthday. One of our group was a "regular" and ordered a couple of meat and cheese platters along with something called "Bread Knots" for appetizers as we were sitting down. For my lunch I started with a small Caeser Salad and followed up with their beef sandwich. The salad was good but not outstanding,......the sandwich was excellent. Great flavor. It was served with an "Au Jus" that was perfect and the bread used for the sandwich was also perfect. My only complaint would be that the quantity of beef seemed a bit light. I am from Chicago. If you order an Italian Beef Sandwich up there you get something the size of a football smothered in french fries. Back to the "Bread Knots." Never had anything like them. Little "loaves" of bread swimming in the best flavor infused olive oil I have ever had. A "must try" when you go there. All in all, it was a very good lunch setting me back about $16. A little pricey............but very good. Our service was spotty. Very nice young guy was our server, but at time we had what seemed like long waits for stuff. Took a long time to check out. Maybe he was swamped?

Excellent food, new expanded seating

By vandertodd |

I have had 10-12 items on the menu over the course of several visits, I haven't had a bad meal yet, this place is fantastic. The endive and prosciutto salad is a must.

Enjoyed delicious food!

By Cobdr |

Tiu Steppi's has a great menu! Nice atmosphere; they have planned the space pretty well. We enjoyed delicious salads, a wonderful Margherita pizza with Italian sausage, and beer on tap. The ingredients were fresh - the basil was so good! The bread knots were a treat!

Higher End Ital in the Hood

Not cheap, but superb food and atmosphere. The appetizers were delicioso as were all the entrees. The service was also swift and professional. Great find on the northeast side of town

I've only had the pizza, but it's delicious

I've inly had the pizza to go on a couple of occasions----it is really good. We need good non chain restaurants-----it should be patronized regularly!

Super Good Food (As Always)

By Joe W |

Very good food! Tonight was our third visit to this restaurant. Very good food and service. Robert ran down the list of tonight's specials and we decided to go with a couple of them: A wedge salad with bleu cheese crumbs, grape tomatoes and prosciutto; and then Lina and I each ordered the scallop, clam and shrimp pasta dish that came with a light white wine seafood broth. More food than we were able to finish so we brought home enough for our lunch tomorrow. Nothing was over- or under-cooked. Was a bit heavy with the red onion, but I'm not an onion lover anyway. This restaurant is always busy and crowded so tonight, like the previous two times we've eaten there, we went right at 5:00 p.m. and didn't have to wait for a table. By the time we left 90 minutes later, the place was very nearly full. During tonight's visit, I was told that I could speak with the manager and request off menu selections (e.g., veal parmigiana and/or lasagna) if requested a week or so early. Outstanding options! The food takes a while longer than it might should take, but when it arrives at the table it is hot and very good. Overall, I give this rating not four stars, but 4-3/4 stars. It's not perfect, but it is very, very good!

Jam packed

By Helen B |

I wasn't too sure it would be worth dealing with the crowd when friends took us here for dinner, that was until I took the first bite of my meal: it was delicious. Guess now we know why it was so crowded. If you get the chance, give it a try. It's well worth the wait (or even better, go in their off hours and skip the crowds). Bet you'll enjoy your meal.

Best Italian Food, Service, and Atmosphere

By Txmarty |

Tiu Steppi's grew up quickly from its parent restaurant, Two Step (BBQ). Although located in an ordinary-looking strip mall (Braun Rd. @ Loop 1604), when you step inside you'll feel like you're in an off-the-beaten-path location in Italy. The short menu represents the kitchen's best; it doesn't try to be everything to everyone. Instead, the chefs focus on the dishes they do best including great pastas, salads, and pizzas. Don't be surprised that some of the dishes are spicier than you get in chain places. And don't expect American-Italian food, either. The food is unique; choose something different and let yourself be surprised. Two personal favorites are the Spinach & Ricotta pizza (a northern Italy favorite) and the Prosciutto with Yellow and Green Pasta. The wine list is excellent, and the service is always top-notch. Take your time, enjoy multiple courses like a true Italian, and let Robert, Eddie or one of the other excellent waitstaff treat you to something truly different from the big chain experience.

Culinaria Restaurant Week

By Joseph S |

Scoured the Culinaria Restaurant Week offerings and found something for the little woman and I was into. I, the Osso Busco and Carrie wanted the 14oz Ribeye. A few friends to share the experience and we were set. Luckily for us we planned to meet at 5:30 after work because while we worked through the three courses - the place was really crowded - lots of people standing outside under the heat lamps waiting for tables. So the meal... first course was a great mix of fried seafood - calamari, artichokes, lemon slices and anchovies. Two different dipping sauces. A very large portion. Lightly fried, not greasy. Seafood was very tender. The only drawback was the anchovies were VERY salty. On time, the second course arrived. The osso busco was very tender and laid on a bed of risotto. The gravy had chunks of vegetables. The prime rib was very tender and very tasty - I'll assume by the delicious aroma it was basted in butter, garlic, rosemary and thyme while it rested. The gremolata was micro-greens and the roasted winter vegetables were roasted potatoes. Unfortunately, Carrie asked for med-rare and by the time it arrived it was medium, leaning toward medium well. Still a good piece of meat. The third course was crème brule. While very creamy and topped with a fresh strawberry, there were some minor flaws: the brule was cold - not even room temperature, and the burnt sugar must of been burnt about 4 hrs prior and the whole placed back in the fridge - the topping appeared to gather moisture and didn't have that "crack" you'd expect from fresh burnt crème brule. The wine selection was awesome - recommend the Baby Amarone with a piece of roast beast. The wait staff was very polite and pretty well responsive, definitely not overbearing. Would I do it again - yes.

My fav!

By nerotal |

This is my second favorite Italian place to eat. The specials are alway good. I had grilled squid there that was amazing, I wish it was a regular menu item. The the staff is great. Food is fresh so they tend to runout of things later in the night.

Authentic and scrumptious

By AngelineRae |

This place has absolutely amazing food! Seriously the best calamari I’ve ever had, my husband and I could not stop raving about it!

Don't go if you know authentic Italian food

By Bird0611 |

We really wanted to like this place. We just moved here from New York and it would be nice to have a go-to Italian place that approximates authentic. We liked the ambience, service was lovely, and impressive wine selection. The food, though, has little to do with real Italian cuisine. As a person of Italian descent, who grew up in an Italian mother's kitchen, I was disappointed and even a little offended by our dinners. Everything, and I mean everything, was overly rich, loaded with butter, cream and cheese and whatever high caloric items they could think to put in. With all that fat, it's bound to be tasty. It's just not authentic. As we left, unpleasantly full from consuming gratuitous amounts of fat, we agreed that our dinners seemed like they were prepared by a chef more familiar with Mexican cuisine. I can see why people who haven't experienced true Italian food might think this food was good. After all, New Yorkers accept barbeque that has nothing to do with real barbecue.

Our Dine Out Group

By TravelingFriends2015 |

First time to visit this restaurant. Was rather surprised at how crowded it was on a Thursday evening. And I noticed several customers doing take out. (I heard the pizza is great there.) Both of these facts let me know this was a successful restaurant. Service was attentive and pleasant. Food came very hot which I appreciate. I personally had the lasagna which was different from what I've had elsewhere but very good. Portion was large enough that I took half of it home. Everyone seemed to enjoy their entrees, and we left very satisfied.

Well Worth the Stop

Really good Italian Food. Service was good as well. Nice selection to pick from. Easy to find something for everyone.

Excellent Food & Service

By Traveler10 |

Wonderful local restaurant! Personalized service, food was very good, and the atmosphere was awesome. Calamari was a little rubbery. The chicken piccata was definitely tasty. I eat piccata a lot, this was a different version with artichokes, tastyyy. Garlic knots were fresh and soft. For my birthday, they surprised me with a heavenly tiramisu, oh myyyy it was so good and made fresh onsite, light and fluffy. If you're seeking to try something new and not a chain try Ti Steppi.

Birthday dinner

By Rene S. A |

The restaurant was great...we enjoyed drinking wine and beer and the staff was excellent. The appetizers were delicious and the main entrees were fresh, hot and truly delicious. The salad and dressing I had was delicious and I wanted more. The prices for the food was reasonable and not overpriced for atmosphere. We are definitely going back to this restaurant...its Italian at its best.

Homemade pasta

By LMomG |

Good variety of lunch choices. Had the Eggplant Parmesan with fresh pasta. Very good and portion size was good. Salad fresh and crispy. Rolls served were not great. I think the dough needed to rise more before baking and they were a bit burned. Restaurant is new, so maybe the rolls will improve.

New facility great menu

By jac2580 |

Went for lunch. the wait staff was attentive and pleasant. No issue when we added soup after our order was entered. Greek salad was large with lots of cheese and the roasted peppers added flavor. I added a half chicken breast, which put it over the top as far as a serving size, so consider the small salad with addition of protein. Chicken could have used a bit more seasoning, but with the salad, it was ok. Other two party members had half sandwiches (one with salad, one with cup of soup). Both were full with leftovers. Their sandwiches were flavorful and beautifully presented. BTW, the garlic knots are VERY addictive.

Great Dinner Night with the Family!

By Brenda B |

We came here with our kids who live here. We are from OH. We found the food to be excellent all around. My husband had the Chicken Picatti and I had the eggplant parmesan. The wait staff seemed to be short staffed due to someone calling off, but they still did a good job. The house wines are excellent and a great buy by the bottle. I would highly recommend eating here.

Delicious flavorful reasonable food!

By Laura B |

We dropped in for a quick dinner before driving from San Antonio back to Houston. Our waiter was Adrian and he wad attentive and knowledgable. I had a great glass of pinot noir and started with the caprese salad and of course the garlic knots. The caprese salad was perfect with lovely slices of buffalo mozzarella, ripe tomatoes and fresh basil. I kept rubbing each bite in the basil reduction it was so good! The garlic knots were excellent little mouthfuls of galicky buttery goodness. Don't miss out on them. For our entrées my husband ordered the special, shrimp brochette over angel hair pasta. He enjoyed it thoroughly. I asked Adrian to recommend between the Saltimbucco and the Picatta. He said go with the Picatta so I did. It was wonderful, flavorful and absolutely delicious. I would order it again! But we both could eat only half our meals so we have leftovers to look forward to! Throughout the meal Adrian was great, always attentive, never pushy, with great suggestions. It was a lovely experience.

I can’t wait to come back...and impress my friends:)

By Angela09Dayton_Ohio |

We’ve been to Italy. This is definitely an Italian restaurant for all the reasons you might expect: professional wait staff, experienced kitchen, fresh food, great wine list and little details like pizza with exceptional crust, use of fresh herbs, authentic pictures of the old world and a comfortable ambiance. This is a 5-star without the pretense. A fave of mine whenever in San Antonio! Hope you enjoy!

Insanely amazing

By Erin K |

BEYOND FANTASTIC!!!!! WOW!!!!!! Started off with a heavenly bottle of Orin Swift Machete…. Started the night off right with that little jewel. Excellent wine list. Delightful. The atmosphere is perfection, extremely well done. The design and vibe was top notch. Lighting was perfect. Music was impeccable. We got the olives to start and the Bruschetta…. And omg. The Bruschetta itself could have been a meal. Freaking amazing! But we got more lol. My husband had the rainbow trout and I had the blackened chicken. Both served with spiral veggies and arugula salad. JUST STOP with all this amazingness!!!! I am quite a critic when it comes to food and I was blown away with every bite. But what made the experience absolutely perfect was our server, Amber. What a beautiful, bright ray of sunshine. Happy, helpful, upbeat and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. She made it a 5 star review. ♥️

2nd Try but Still Disappointed, Bulverde location

By Steve S |

Beautiful restaurant but very slow service and disappointing food. This was our 2nd try, thinking maybe the first visit was just a bad day but our 2nd visit was worse. Got seated quickly by the hostess, waitress was there within minutes to take our drink order, she brought water fairly quickly but it took at least 15 minutes to get our drinks from the bar. Plenty of staff milling about but no one making or serving drinks. I ordered the lunch special, veal burger with caprese salad and bread pudding. Got the caprese, but it was served with arugula instead of basil. I didn't say anything, should've. The burger was good but very thick bread making it impossible to bite into so I took the topside bun off to eat it open face. My girlfriend ordered a caesar salad and margherita pizza. The pizza was just average, had better from HEB. She loved her salad but didn't want her cherry tomatos so I took them from her plate. One of the tomatos had a huge black rotting streak on it, I showed the waitress telling her she should show the chef. I watched her walk into the kitchen and she was back out the door in 2 seconds. I'm sure she tossed the rotten tomato in the garbage without saying a word to anyone. We wanted to like this place but I doubt we'll be back for a 3rd try.

Delicious! Great find.

By Tamela S |

We are here on the way home from sea world. Luckily we beat the Friday night crowd. They have a cute patio area. But what shines is the food. Delicious!!! A few of us had spaghetti and meatballs. Huge meatballs and an authentic homemade tomato sauce. We also had the margarita pizza. Simple delicious ingredients. It's a small restaurant, but don't judge a book by its cover with this restaurant!!

Dinner

By Karla K |

We visited Tiu Steppi's just off Braun after a very long day of moving. It was wonderful and we will be making return visits! Very misleading as it is in a strip center but it is lovely inside, nice congenial service and the food......!! We had a starter of garlic knots and olives and a glass of wine. For dinner I had yellow and green pasta with prosciutto, onions, peas and an Asiago cream sauce and my husband had an eggplant Parmesan. Both dinners surpassed our expectations delightfully! We saw pizza and desserts go by and they will be sampled at future visits. Don't miss this neighborhood gem.

great for pizza and wine

By mmmberrygoodfood |

on our waiter's recommendation, we had the white pizza. It was wonderful with my wine but you'll want to be careful of the garlic. they also have Italian beer.

Dinner

Loved the atmosphere but the spaghetti was strange . It was like a noodle and not a pasta. Very unusual sauce. My husband's pizza was good. Very limited menu. Excellent service.

New Upscale Italian on Bulverde

By VOjoe |

Our walk-in party of 8 was seated quickly as we arrived early. The restaurant has great atmosphere with an attractive bar and patio. Our group had mostly salads and pizza. Very nice salads and appetizers. Our pizza was tasty but dry. We had a bottle of wine at 3 times retail price. This was an enjoyable meal however the prices will hold it back from being a regular go to restaurant.

Very Good Meal

By William B |

Nice restaurant, Decor very Italian, My meal was very good so much we had to ask for a dogie bag. Nice waiters and very attended. The homemade pasta was so good.

What Happen To This Place??

By R P |

What Happen To This Place? As soon as I walked in the gentleman up front was so rude. The food was not the same either. The taste was terrible. I used to come to this location all the time. I started going to your new location until that one closed. I came back today and it was terrible. Not the same anymore.

Delicious!

By angie O |

We had dinner here for the first time. I was intrigued by the name of the restaurant, and was not sure what type of cuisine they served. As soon as you walk in you know due to the divine aromas of garlic, seafood and pizza coming from the kitchen. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a cozy upscale feel. I had the best chicken piccata EVER! The portions are huge and moderately priced. My husband had the house pizza, which is also the best we've had. Make sure to try this restaurant and you will a regular!

Excellent food. Bulverde location has quality issues

By arhie |

The food is delicious. Everything on the menu is good. The location on the Northwest side has outstanding service. The new location on Bulverde needs some work. Prosciutto left off dishes, underfilled wine carafes, no complimentary bread. Overall still a good experience, but disappointing compared to the excellent standards at the original location.

Great Tiramisu!

By Kurt S |

I have enjoyed many meals here. One of the Best Tiramisu deserts I’ve ever had. Better pizza than your usual pizza joint...

Nice surprise

By peterrific4 |

Went to tiu steppis this weekend with my husband and son before his soccer game. We went to the bulverde rd location which just opened a couple weeks ago and we were surprised at how good the food was. Usually if we want good food we drive to the pearl brewery as there really isn't anything good in north San Antonio area. They make pizzas, sandwiches and pastas with fresh ingredients. I tried the mushroom and arugula ravioli and aside from it needing a little salt, the dish was so delicious. My son had half of a meatball sandwich with broccoli pancetta soup which I tasted and it was delicious too. We had our waitress bring us extra spoons to share but our son ended up eating it all too fast. My husband got chicken Parmesan which he said was really good. The best part of the meal was the complimentary garlic knots they bring to your table. (Supposed to be by request but she just brought them to us to try.) They are knots of focaccia bread on a plate of melted butter and mounds of garlic- they were to die for. Our service was EXCELLENT. Loved our waitress... Wish I could remember her name. She brought us teas to go and even walked us to the door and opened it for us cause we had our baby with us as well in his stroller. I would say the only drawback for me was that even thought they use fresh ingredients I would like to see them use organic or natural chicken and grass fed meat and organic greens for their salads. We really try to eat organic and gmo free at home so it would be nice to have some natural options to choose from. But we will definitely be back soon.

Worth the wait

By 1626carlies |

My boyfriend and I came in in a Saturday night we had to wait 30 minutes but it was worth it. Our sever was really helpful and the staff was amazing. Its so worth waiting for. If your not into waiting try them during the week. So good!

Great all ariund

By Heidi M |

Loved the ambiance though in a shopping strip, not expected. Decor very nice and Christmas decor very sophisticated. Service excellent as well! Ok, to the food. We ordered the garlic olives and bread! We shoulda paid more attention to the garlic part.....as I don't like garlic and it certainly was garlicky!! So garlic lovers order away!! We followed with Greek salad....good! And saltimboca Shrimp was fabulous! Shrimp wrapped in bacon (though I rarely touch the pig stuff, I splurged) and glad I did! On a bed of fettuccine in an excellent creme sauce! We even chanced it with the happy hour red wine (Chianti blend)....great!!! Even the third glass!!😳 We will be returning !!! Medium price affordable !

delightful surprise

By JANNETTE E |

Just saw this place and stopped as we were looking for something new. It was quiet, so we were able to really enough our time. Meal was pretty good, though needed. Little more garlic and seasoning. When you order a glass of wine, you get a true glass, not your generics 3oz. Making it even more of a treat. Hubby really like the chocolate stout on draft.

Great pizza

By Mark M |

Went here at the recommendation of some locals, and they were right on. The pizza was fantastic and very reasonably priced. The kids pizzas were huge! They also had good happy hour deals on beer and wine. I would definitely eat here again.

Amazing Food, Service, and Atmosphere

By Flavor Mosaic |

This was my second time to eat here. The first time was for a casual lunch on the patio, back when it was cooler, and the second time I met a friend for dinner on a Saturday night, when the atmosphere was more upscale casual. Both times the service and food were incredible.

A true osteria

By DoloresJacoby.Let’sTravel.98368 |

I'm very familiar with Italian Osterias from so many Italian travels. It was delightful to find one in San Antonio that was so authentic. I enjoyed the high top tables inside. One could also sit outside. Service was attentive and efficient. The food was excellent. I can highly recommend the eggplant parmigiana. I'd like to return again.

Perfect every time

By Wendy M |

We have come here for every important family dinner over the last 4 years. Everything on the menu is amazing and it seems a shame sometimes to just order a run of the mill pizza, but it's just so good that we can't refrain. It is a quiet, relaxing ambience with excellent service and reasonable wine selection. We will be back again and again.

Tasty Tiu Step

Tried this new place so good a nice find for sure. This was not my first visit .Me & my lady friends decided to try four dishes and two desserts wow so tasty! Please see my pics ......

This is not your chain Italian restaurant

By Debi O |

Food and service was excellent. Pasta is fresh made. Ordered the lobster appetizer special which was fabulous. Would highly recommend in the NC San Antonio area. Dinner can be a little pricey but you get what you pay for. They do have great lunch specials if you are not inclined to pay dinner prices.

Only had the pizza but it was good

By botanicalsa |

They have outdoor seating for nice days or evenings. The House wine was good. We wren't that hungry the evening we ate here, so we ordered a pizza. The pizza was very good. Everyones meals looked really good as the meals passed by us. We will be returning to try out more of the menu items. The wait staff all seemed attentive too. It can get crowded, so plan ahead.

Charming neighborhood restaurant

By TwoGrays |

Very enjoyable meal. While stuck in a strip mall, you enter a charming brick exposed loft style cozy environment. Calamari app very good with two dipping sauces. Pizza flavor excellent but could have used a bit more toppings. Redfish special also good. Service was excellent. Server could not have been more attentive.

Wonderful food and service

By Brenda W |

Had a family lunch there for about 25 people, and everyone ordered off their standard menu. The service was excellent - the food came out at the same time and all orders were correct. The food is some of the best I have ever had!

Pizza crust is perfect..... Forget your diet for a day....

By mymexicaneyes |

My cheese pizza was so tasty that I had to eat THREE slices because I could not stop! The leftover pizza was breakfast perfect straight from the fridge. Pasta and meatballs is a large portion (this was the lunch portion!) and the meatballs were flavorful and large. The chicken parmesan was breaded lightly and seasoned deliciously. I highly recommend eating after the lunch rush :-)

Great food..need more seating!

By Margaret R |

This is a great little restaurant. The linguine with clams was great and the special of the night was chicken Florentine and it was outstanding. Friendly staff and quick service. The only detractor was the somewhat close quarters but this great restaurant will soon be expanding into the adjacent storefront which I am sure they will have no problem filling up.

Excellent Food, Service & Atmosphere!

By mkh143ek7 |

Stopped in Sunday for a leisurely lunch and was extremely happy about our choice. My husband and I sat for a few hours and had a slow many course meal of our own making. It was wonderful and so very relaxing. The Manager Anthony Pierce and our server Ryan went above and beyond to make our couple's time away from the kids just perfect! Thank YOU BOTH! The food and nice selection of fine wine are just incredible, too! The pasta is made fresh daily and the taste is divine. We tried a bunch of different dishes and honestly, you cannot go wrong with any choice. The quality and consistency is spot on. What enticed us to stay as long as we did as well was how beautifully decorated the restaurant is. It's very romantic and family friendly. It can be for a casual meal or for a special date. The music was also soothing and enjoyable as it was a station playing acoustical versions of popular songs. We cannot wait to return!

Great little Italian Restaurant

By Mark P |

This is an Intimate family-owned restaurant. Christian our waiter greeted us 30 seconds after we were seated (no wait on Sunday evening) and took very good care of us. Bruschetta was great. Greek salad was surprisingly spicy (very good). Our entrees were all great: Italian sausage cacciatore, lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, and chicken Marsala. No room for dessert, in fact we had to ask for four takeout boxes. Great place.

Wonderful meal, very good service...

By JimC2626 |

My wife and I met another couple for dinner and enjoyed our, meal and visit greatly. We've eating here before and enjoyed it but the food was exceptional during this visit. From the chicken Piccata (which my wife and I shared) to the wonderful and tasty Greek salad we enjoyed it all. Our friends split a pizza and raved about it. My mouth is 'watering' just thinking about it. I highly recommend.

Good Food

By LionSkin |

The food was great. They did over cook my steak but they brought me a new one pretty quick. The only complaint was it is very pricey.

Our visit to the new Ti Steppi on Bulverde Road

By jottowag |

What a beautiful restaurant. Looks like it is right out of upper Manhattan. We were so looking forward to going there tonight for our first time. When we found it, we were slightly disappointed that is was in a small strip mall facing 1604. We had a nice table with a new waitress that I am sure had not finished her training yet. But we were left alone at her mercy. She finally served our bread, 7-8 very small rolls, "two-bite" sized for our party of seven. We did ask for more bread shortly into our meal began, but did not get it until we were through eating. Ice tea was never refilled until just before we left and the bill was paid. But, she was new, and I am sure she will improve over time. The food was more disappointing. The pizza was the worst we have ever had in San Antonio...hands down! Of course we were spoiled by the small dingy Maars not too far away that has some of the best pizza in town, that I reviewed on Yelp last week. Our pasta dishes were average in quality, but on the expensive side. Will we ever go back? No. Too many other better Italian restaurants in San Antonio.

Beware the Draft beer & Wedge

By edestrada2016 |

Always great food, atmosphere and service. A group of six came in to celebrate a birthday even though we are regulars. I am a little disappointed that a Wedge of Iceberg lettuce would cost 10 bucks (9.99). It was very good with the blue cheese dressing & fixings, but the price is a little much. Also I order a Peroni draft and later found out it was $6.75 so over 7 bucks with tax...Really??? Also a little much, but still left a 20% tip because service was very good!

Long time coming

By MattSWine |

Been wanting to try Tiu Steppi's for years and finally got a chance. It lived up to the expectations. Good service and super food. Try the Chicken Roulade - magnificent!

Very nice local neighborhood restaurant

By JimC2626 |

I took my wife for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was busy, but not to the point that we had to wait for a table. We enjoyed the Margherita pizza and were both extremely impressed with the Greek salad. Decent wine list as well as craft beers.

Never again!

By nannyg264 |

We have eaten Italian food here several times, enjoyed it, and noticed the pizzas looked good, so tonight we decided to get a take out pizza. You can order online and specify a time for pick up, so we ordered for about an hour later. We got there about 15 minutes before the specified time but the pizza was boxed up and waiting by the cash register. The bottom of the box wasn't even warm. So we take it home, figuring we'd warm it in the oven. The next disappointment came when we opened the box. The 16" pizza had 2" edge all the way around of just crust. The only cheese was centered in a 6" or 7" circle in the middle of the pizza. I'd say the very dry pizza had no sauce at all but I suppose the yellowish discoloration on the crust was their attempt at sauce. Maybe this was just our bad luck and their pizzas are typically better but why take a second chance? I'd give it one star, only because there was an adequate amount of the toppings we had ordered.

Another outstanding visit!

By James S |

Back in San Antonio for a visit, this was on our must stop list. As before, an exceptionally wonderful staff and an outstanding meal. I had the chicken marsala and my wife had the chicken piccata. Both exquisite taste and large portions. We love this place!

DELICIOUS!

Came for lunch w/ 2 friends & the prices are very reasonable & staff is very nice. I recommend the Chicken Picatta. YUM!!!

Nice little visit

By HNS081514 |

Tried this place out because my parents were in town. The two types of bread brought out were delicious. We tried fried calamari which also included a fried lemon circle and fried arugula, lightly crispy and flaky. My wife and I split the lunch spaghetti and meatballs and there wa some still left over. Th service was really good. Nice atmosphere.

Great Date Night Eatery

By Brenda M |

My favorite place for date night. A wee tad pricey but absolutely delicious!! I prefer the location on Braun and 1604 but I have gone to both and had equally delicious food and great service.

Tiu Steppi's Osteria was nice for the price

By DonnyTheOracle |

Had some pretty solid Italian food today. The Chicken Piccatta was seasoned nicely and the super sized pork ravioli was a nice starter. The cocktails were stiff but not harsh going down. I will likely go back to try other items.

Shhh! Don’t tell everyone or we’ll all have to wait for a table!

By AteamMom11 |

Hands down, best Italian influenced cuisine in town. Super table service. Excellent wine list. We go regularly for lunch, dinner, carry out. Delicious pizzas, Brie & mushroom is our fave. They are in a family of restaurants in the same area, including the also delicious & fab patio place, Two Step’s (up scale American grill food). When we lived in Europe & were back in San Antonio for short visits, we always ate here! My teen boys love it, too! Tip: call ahead if you want a specific table (not Tina of seating), particular server (several are fab!), or large group seating. Going early to lunch is no seating prob.
