Decent portions

By mail4cindyr |

The welcome is met with a very busy doorway and short wait to be seated. They bring a green salsa, bean dip and chips to start you off. All were decent flavors. The menudo was decent but a little heavy. The y had a nice garnish plate. The chicken poke plate is decent but the mole flavors are very subtle. The barbacoa tacos are really decent sized and tender. They use beef cheek in them! The tortillas are a handmade delicious accoutrement! The margaritas are decent as they are served in a clay vase with a tamarind edging. They also offer a sangria.

Best tex-mex!!

By Gabriela E |

We had one meal in San Antonio. And we chose this place even though it was 15min from downtown. SO GREAT! The bean dip that comes with the chips is phenomenal. We ordered the Antojitos which is a small portion but so filling and full of flavor. Also, please try the arroz con leche (hot).

Hidden gem

This restaurant is a great place to have either breakfast or dinner. Atmosphere is fun and has live music on Friday and Saturday from 6:30 - 9:00. Servers are friendly and can help you with your orders. Mariaches play every Friday. They offer traditional Mexican food. This restaurant is in a small strip center off 281 and Encino Rio. Give this place a try.

Excellent Mexican restaurant

By casjf |

Wow, wow, wow! The absolute best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in years! Our waitress Daniela was the best. The parillada was amazing, as were the posole, guacamole, mole, queso, corn, and carne asada. The margaritas were tasty too. If you are a group of tourists (as our party was), it’s definitely worth a Lyft or Uber ride away from the overpriced and inauthentic Mexican food offered by the River Walk restaurants.

Outstanding Team Dinner experience

By Dr. Javy Medina |

We had our Team Dinner experience at Tlahco Mexican Kitchen. We first acope this place the day before to ensure that the place was going to be suitable for our team members’ palette. Our military team came prepared, they held their food cravings to get the full immersion experience. Our servers were Daniela and Silvia. Daniela did a great job explaining the difference between all dinner choices in both English and Spanish. We had 16 members, some knew what they wanted to eat while others ventured into trying something without reservations, truly immersing i to the Mexican delicatessen. We ordered Cerveza Modelo, Ceviche, Chorizo Sope, Enchiladas Potosinas, Horchatas, Margaritas, Mole, and Mini-tacos Mixtos. We liked it so much that we have been to this restaurant two days in a row. On behalf of my team, I want to say Thank you to Daniela and Silvia…you ladies took good care of us.

Absolutely Delicious

The food here is absolutely delicious. We ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeños, pollo tacos and the tacos de bistec. Tlahco has immediately jumped to the top of the list of my favorite mexican restaurants!

Authentic and Amazing!

This place is a hole in the wall, found in a strip mall, but was so delicious we ate there twice in the 3 days we were in town. If you go, you have to get the Cafe de Olla. It's the best coffee I've ever had! (On the sweet side, just in case it's not your thing). Everything we ate was amazing. If you're in San Antonio you must go!

Their mini tacos are yummy

By NikaNumber1 |

Entrance on the corner. A Dios Le Pido by Juanes is playing in the background, he's good. They have fresh juice. We ordered an OJ and a beet juice, guacamole with pico de gallo and Jalapeño, mini chicken street tacos (5 mini) with the borracho beans (drunk) beans with bacon. $59.54 Complimentary chicharron in their bean dip, corn chips and 2 salsas: warm mild salsa, salsa verde and a medium spicy red roasted salsa. The mini tacos were good, the grilled chicken was super flavorful, more than expected. The flautas were good, thick, small though. The guacamole was yummy, not a lot of tomatoes, mostly onion and jalapenos. The plates and bowls come in clay ware. The food and service were both good.

I could eat here everyday.

By Sydney |

My husband and I ordered the enmoladas and tacos dorados and both dishes were incredible. I typically do not like mole, but theirs is housemade and it’s delicious. If I could eat here everyday, I would. Do yourself a favor and pay this place a visit. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful as well. If it weren’t for the pandemic, we definitely would have eaten in the restaurant. We’ll be back next time we visit San Antonio.

Great San Antonio find

By 23kimberleyf |

Everything we ordered was excellent. We waited 40 minutes for a table and it was well worth it. From the chips and bean dip, to our entrees were all fantastic, waitstaff were attentive and helpful. I had the Migas Diablas and Kim had the Huevos Ranchos, and we each had a single taco that were excellent. Would recommend to anyone!

Good morning!

We enjoyed breakfast at this restaurant. Staff were warm and pleasant. The dining area was bright and clean. Food was fresh and delicious. Nicely seasoned and not salty. We had migas diablas, huevos benitos and omelet rancheros plus a barbacoa taco. A hearty breakfast. Service was excellent. Wait staff checked with us thoughout the meal- clearing dishes and topping up coffee and water. A nice breakfast to start our day.

Got off plane and found great authentic mexican

By Jim W |

Got rental car after landing airport and needed a quick meal before driving to Del Rio. Looking for a local spot and was pleasantly surprised. The Steet Mini-tacos hit the spot. The service was excellent and good covid distancing rules. Close to the airport with access to highways. Definitle will return my next time in town.

Excellent authentic Mexican

By FoodhoundsL |

Excellent authentic Mexican food. The meats on the parrillada were all tender and delicious. The rice and the beans were very tasty, as well. And the signature dessert is a lot of fun - conchitas, Mexican sweet bread that you dip in hot chocolate and top with whipped cream. Yum!

Come here if you like being ignored and receive no service.

I looked forward to coming to this restaurant for a few months now, and today I finally had my chance. Authentic Mexican restaurants in San Antonio are sorely lacking and most people here don't even realize they are eating Tex-Mex, which is completely different. When we got there, there were several dirty tables and only one clean one towards the back. After checking out the menu, I had my eye on the parrillada or perhaps some Sopes and washing it down with a Sangria. My wife and I sat there, and servers were all around us and it took them a full 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We continued waiting, but I completely lost my patience when a couple at the next table literally just sat down were having there orders taken. By the time our server came by, the folks at the other table had already drank at least half their beverage and were enjoying their appetizer. This is when our server finally appeared, I told him about the long wait, and all he said was "ok, would you like to order?". No apology, no empathy, just nothing. I asked my wife if she wanted to leave and she said yes. Server just said ok, and turned to get another tables order. Absolutely unreal. I understand that restaurants have suffered a great deal because of the pandemic and are struggling to find help, but their is no excuse for this. Consumers still get to choose where we want to eat and expect decent service and at least an "Lo siento" when things don't go our way.

Better than the average San Antonio Mexican restaurant

By slf540 |

My husband and I had lunch there because we had seen the excellent review they got in the newspaper. I had the chicken enmoladas which are similar to enchiladas but with mole instead of chile. It was served with rice and refried beans. The star on the plate was definitely the enmoladas. The beans were just average and rice well was rice. The mole was a little thinner than I'm used to in Mexico. It was a bit sweet, but overall it was good. My husband had the sopes with poblano sauce and chorizo. The sopes were excellent but you couldn't taste the chorizo. Will we go back- well maybe if we're in the area and hungry. We won't make a special trip to go there.

Standout New Local Restaurant

Two trips now. Big hit both times. Spotlessly clean and very friendly atmosphere. The food is great. Torta al Pastor was exceptional. Wonderful tacos and pastries. We will be back soon!

Crazy Drink prices

By Dan R |

Had street tacos and a Coke. $3.50 for a fountain drink??!! I'll get a beer next time! I do not believe they publish the insanely high non alcoholic drink prices on the menu.

Worth the stop!!

By far the best Mexican food I’ve ever had!! Staff was excellent. Margaritas were delicious. If we’re ever back in San Antonio this will 100% be the first stop we make!! The most Authentic Mexican food I’ve had.

Had a great and affordable lunch at Tlahco

By alexisrachelletx |

I tried Tlahco out for lunch with grandfather this weekend. He's a bit of a picky eater (he's 96!), but we both really enjoyed our meal at Tlahco. We both had the sopa de fideo (tomato broth, fideo, pinto beans, cilantro), which we both really enjoyed. And a decent-sized bowl for only $4.95!! He got a pollo asado mini taco, which he enjoyed ($1.95), and I got a rajas sope (refried beans, rajas, panela cheese, crema), which I enjoyed as well ($1.95). We enjoyed everything we tried, and it was such an affordable meal for the quality of the food! I'd happily go back to Tlahco next time I'm visiting San Antonio! Delicious, affordable food!

Our first visit was wonderful! The food and service was great! Unfortunately our two subsequent vists were disappointing. While we've enjoyed the food, the service was sorely lacking. We arrived at 2pm knowing, that they close at 3pm Monday-Wedndnesday. The servers were more interested in cleaning up to close, than service our table. At the time, there was only one other table of two. They started sweeping the floor next to our table, while we were eating. We were concerned, that dust might float onto our food. We hurriedly ate. I mentioned it to the owner, but didn't get a reply nor an apology. Their food is interior Mexican food Not Tex Mex as most of the restaurants in San Antonio are. We do plan on returning and give them another chance for improvement. They've only been open about two months, so I guess they are still in training. I hope that you will have a better experience. 🤞😊

The Best Enmoladas!

By Jenna |

While on a trip to San Antonio, my friend and I ran across this place when searching for good, authentic Mexican food. It required a short drive out of the downtown area, but it was absolutely worth the trip! The food was amazing and very affordable for the quality that you’re getting. We ordered and shared chicken enmoladas and enchiladas so that we could both try different items. They were so good that we put in a take out order the following day as we were leaving town. I’m still craving those enmoladas! If I’m ever back in San Antonio, I will make it a priority to go back here.

Authentic Mexican cuisine

By Olga Flores |

Great food, fantastic service, moderately priced and we'll work every cent. Definitely try the bean dip with chips. You just can't get enough of it. The enmboladas are cheese or chicken filled with the most awesome mole sauce. You can tell the mole is homemade from scratch and definitely NOT Dona Maria store bought mix. The chicharrones used in their tacos and sope is in fact wonderful pork belly. They pair it with their homemade beans for an extraordinary experience. The potatoes used in their tacos as sides in some of their plates are lightly seasoned with a Chipotle spice that makes them very flavorful. A must to try is the Tasha's and Panera cheese taco. Really, really good. Rajas are strips of poblano peppers and therefore can sometimes be a bit spicy but definitely worth the zing if you get a spicy one. Regular coffee is good especially paid with the Conchas (Mexican sweet bread). They bring it with your choice of chocolate drizzle or house-made fresh whipped cream. Going back to try the various parrillas brought to your table sizzling on a skillet type grill. Amazing!!! Brenda our server was only too willing to answer all our questions and recommend dishes explaining each one with a smile on her face. Service exceeds that if most restaurants. Tlacho had only been opened for about a month so get there before the rest of the city discovers this gem of a restaurant.
