The restaurant was the best one in the area for many years but now it is just an overpriced outdated sushi place. The plates are getting smaller and the food does not taste as good as it was before however the prices went up a lot. The service lady was in mask that is ok but also she had big plastic gloves, so it was kind of creepy when she brought all the plates with plastic gloves. she never stopped by to ask if you need anything else so I would say that the service is not as good as it was before. there are a lot of sushi places in the area that I’m much better in sushi, prices, and service.

The restaurant is opened for many years. Food is still great quality and presentation. Fast service. The place has liquor license and variety of Japanese alcohol. High price food for the area but mid range compare to Philadelphia downtown

My husband & I have been coming to To-Kai for years; it is always consistently great. From the hibatchi to the so fresh sushi; we usually go for the sushi. So many great rolls & the atmosphere is so relaxing and inviting. Our last visit we got three sushi rolls and decided to split a roasted duck platter. The duck was cooked perfectly in a glorious sauce with pears, potato and eggplant, it was delish! This restaurant does have a bar but allows you to bring your own for a slight corkage fee. Highly recommend.

We come back here over and over again because the food, service, and food (yes, again), cannot be beat, excellent food and service.

It's a wonderful hibachi sushi restaraunt in the heart of north east philly. I have had both the sushi and the hibachi steak and shrimp . It's all great , the only down down side it's that's it's really busy on the weekends .

To-Kai is my gulity pleasure for all things sushi. The quality is the highest and service at the Sushi Bar surronded by friends is unparalleled. For non sushi eaters they have great entrees and hibachi if that's your thing. A fantastic place to celebrate a special occassion. Enjoy, Ellen

Staying at Radisson in Trevor's, this came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Hibachi was plentiful and delicious. Chef was personable and funny. Wait staff was a little cold but service was prompt and efficient. I'd recommend!

Good sushi, fresh and pretty tasty. The presentation is great and the decor is good for a sushi place in NE Philly. They have a good variety of rolls. The Hibachi part we did not really like but the parties sound fun from the side. Overall we eat a lot there and the food is consistently good.

Typical for hibachi in the area...Pricing is reasonable...I would say about $23 per person on the average....Clean, friendly service...A bit noisy , but its a hibachi, so , to be expected....you will most likely be sitting with strangers, again its a hibachi Very fun....you will be bringing food home.....fresh, good tasting food made right in front of you with a comical chef

Hibachi at To-Kai has become a Christmas tradition for our family traveling into Philadelphia from Ohio, Colorado and the Central PA and NE Phillie area. As our family grows, we have younger children who enjoy the action of the hibachi chefs. My chicken & shrimp dish was delicious. I'd recommend To-Kai. Not just hibachi; nice menu with lots of good choices and a separate quieter dining room available. See you there when I return next Christmas!

Gourmet sushi. Never saw anything like the selection at Tokai. We drive about 1 hour from our house to eat their sushi almost every Friday. Tuna pizza and oysters are must to try. All sashimi rolls are incredible.

Excellent food and good service, lot of choice.food cook well, excellent ambiance and atmosphere.i will come back soon.

Being in a strip mall in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I was not expecting to-kai to be any good. So when deciding where to get sushi my boyfriend and I only choose to-Kai because it was close. We were diffenately surprised. The rolls we ordered were great and we loved the art work on the plates. We will be coming back!!

The restaurant's regular food is good, my partner loved it. I, however, was left with one option out of the entire menu since I am a vegan. That option was ok, but 3 veggie rolls for $14 is a rip off.

We think they have the best sushi and sashimi in the area. Everything is fresh and the presentation is awesome and very creative. We usually start with their specials or a few signature appetizers and then continue with a few signature rolls or a sushi/sashimi boat. Don't be afraid to be experimental and try some of the specials or more unusual dishes. You'll even get a great surprise if you are celebrating a birthday.

Did I mention that the sushi is fresh? Good, because it is! Aside from that, the chefs' presentation is exquisite. The appetizers are aglow with lights. They offer unique specials, but I have to say my absolute favorite is the To-kai Sashimi Salad. It's listed as an appetizer, but for $18 and the amount of sashimi you get, it's a meal. We have tried other things on the menu that are delicious, but we always find our way back to this gem. To-Kai also has a habachi grill. The food was good and the show was wonderful.

Excellent sushi. No where else did i try fresh chopped up Wasabi plant rather that processed green paste! Sashimi rolls, great salads, nice atmosphere

I used to think that I had to drive into downtown Philly to get good sushi. To-Kai has changed my mind! My wife and I love this spot. She was a non-sushi person for years and would order something off the 'hot' menu. I've got her loving the rolls here and even trying unagi. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. Yes, it is in a strip mall, but they are fast, serve high quality fish, and are willing to customize your order. 2 thumbs up!

My friends and I try to eat here at least once a month. We started eating here when they first opened several years ago . We fell in love with it instantly . The quality of the fish is outstanding . I have taken several friends here that never liked sushi , they were quickly converted once they sampled the menu. The staff is great and extremely friendly .

We big sushi fans, tried many sushi restaurants in Philadelphia and areas around, But still keep coming back to Tokai! Definitely recommend to try Sushi Box, we tried all of them, and they all Really Good! Nice atmosphere, modern design, friendly staff!

My fiance and have gone to this restaurant on a semi-regular basis since we moved to NE Philadelphia. I can say we have never had a bad time; in fact, it has almost always been excellent. Whether we order take out, or eat-in for sushi or hibachi...we have thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this place!

My first visit even though I live about a mile from restaurant. I was hesitant because I didn't know anyone who had eaten there. I glad my husband suggested it. Very nice decor with comfortable seating. Service was great. Sushi and sashimi were fresh and delicious...avocado blossom is a must!...roast duck entree was very large (take home) and especially good...definitely will return to try hibachi and more of signature rolls...a real plus for NE Phila.

This is one the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. Great atmosphere, excellent service and an enticing menu. My friend had a large sort of delicious apetizers, and share a large boat o sushi, beautifully presented; while I had the duck: a dish melting on my tongue, a dreams of spices and a wonderful feeling at the end. What to say?! Great food experience

I have forgotten about this place for many years. A few months ago we decided to try this restaurant again. They opened more rooms and they are very nice. The food is delicious. The service is fine too. They already include 18% of tips in a check so it makes some of servers more relaxed. But it doesn’t bother. Among sushi our favorite is dragon shrimp tempura roll. For the dinner we recommend Mango shrimp. I attach a photo my son’s cute desert.

Definitely the favorite for hibachi amongst all of my family members. We come back here over and over again because the food, service, and food (yes, again), cannot be beat! The steak is always so yummy but the rice is to absolutely die for! I always order more than one order of rice because it just doesn't get any better. Tip: order your steak rare, because it is chopped into little pieces and cooked to a medium anyway. Another Tip: Larger groups make is more fun, but wear a shirt you don't care about getting messy. You will be catching food with your mouth, and drinking a ton of Saki!

Very entertaining evening for 16 year olds' team. Restaurant accommodated 35 of us on a few hours notice. Food was plentiful and very good. Great memory for the boys.

3 of us recently dined here for lunch. We had the tuna pizza which I wasnt too impressed with- The tuna didnt seem very fresh. We then split about 10 rolls... We had an assortment of everything and all were pretty good. I dont mind coming here as they also do hibachi and have hibachi tables- my only negative is I think its a bit pricey compared to some of the other sushi places in the area. If you go with a group for hibachi make sure to make a reservation as it does get packed on the weekends.

10 of us recently had dinner here to celebrate 2 birthdays. Make sure to make reservations as they only have 6 hibachi tables so it fills up quickly. They have a full bar, but you can byob and they charge you $3 for wine bottles and $1 for beer bottles if your looking to save some money. When its someones birthday, they bring out desert that has a really cool candle that is a flower that opens up and plays music. They also dim the lights, have a disco ball and play music... definitely a good time for a group of people.
Sushi or not Sushi
The food here is always good but when I am in the NE area and want Sushi, this is the place I go to. I think at this point I have almost tried every Sushi listed on the menu.
