Great food, but expensive!

By Dominique G |

My boyfriend and I went to eat here and the food was delicious! I ordered the Lox scramble, and it was made to perfection. He ordered the breakfast burrito and had a hard time finishing it because it was so big. While the food was great, the bill came to about $50.00! A bit pricy for breakfast!

Yummy

By Mitchell S |

Best breakfast in the bay! Food is always amazing. Service is always fast. This place sits on the corner of Sacramento and Polk and the views are always festive. This is my absolute favorite place to eat breakfast in the city. Staff is amazing!

The location and service was great. Loved the 3D art. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was bland and over cooked, but the waffle was delicious. No wait and not a huge crowd. We were seated immediately unlike other restaurants we went to which all had long lines.

The best on my visit

By XOSandra5280 |

We walked into Toast and couldn't find a table. A man sitting alone was done with breakfast but on his phone. I recognized him from Million Dollar Listing San Francisco. My brother asked him of he would mind posing for a picture with me. He snapped the photo and we got the table. I ordered the croissant french toast. It came with strawberries, blueberries and banana slices. Wow! It was a food party in my mouth! The icing on the cake...Meeting Roh Habibi from MDLSF! Thank you, San Francisco!

Best coffee in Nob Hill

By Steph G |

We went there several times for breakfast and everything that we ordered was great and served really quickly, even when they were busy. As an Aussie caffeine addict, I struggle to find a coffee place that I like in the States, as American coffee tastes are very different to mine (no reflection on their taste, just different!) - however, Toast offered the traditional US brewed coffee, but also had great baristas who made the best latte I managed to find in San Francisco! If you're staying in the Nob Hill area, I recommend you give Toast a try.

ok

By Kai C |

I ducked in here from a sudden rain squall and took the opportunity to get a brunch. I lucked out with the table (a couple was just leaving) but the place was full of (apparently) locals, always a good sign. The omelette was surprisingly good, and the coffee was leagues better than your standard american diner. The service was good, although no one called me "honey", which made me sad. Altogether, a good experience.

Ok, nothing to write home about...

By Amanda H |

We ate here after having breakfast at our hotel the day before and finding it expensive. I would agree with the reviews that say the food was mediocre and price on the high end given the quality. I had eggs, sausage, hash browns, and an English muffin (which was a little burnt on the edges). My dad enjoyed his breakfast burrito and my mom enjoyed her blueberry pancakes, though. For as basic as the food was, I would expect better pricing. Service was good, though.

Any Day Breakfast

By crayonline |

We went on a Wednesday about 10am. Surprisingly crowded; waited about 15 minutes for a table for two. Both ordered omelets with different fillings, good variety. Quickly presented, hot and delicious. English Muffins were 'toasted' just right. A lot of commotion with the turnover of customers, but not too noisy.

Breakfast

I was initially put off going in to Toast as a man standing outside warned me not to go in as many years ago the eatery was placed under a gypsy's curse. The Sacramento omelette was delicious.

Very nice breakfast

Yum yum !!! Very nice place for huge breakfast ! For people who don't want to have lunch, that's the place to go !

Great Breakfast

By marriott946 |

Went with three friends at 7am. Staff bright and breezy. Great breakfast menu. Had a full English. Quick, tasty, pricey but set up for the day. Thank you Team Toast.

'merican food done well

By tchia |

This is a great place if you can look past the baby strollers, loud children, and people ordering everything "on the side". It's a great place for American diner-type fare done with good ingredients and cooked to order. The grilled cheese, turkey clubs, salads and shoestring fries satisfy like nothing else when you just want something good, served by a friendly staff, cooked the way you want it, and you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it. Definitely recommend any of their locations to folk who want something simple, reliable, comforting and good.

Huge breakfasts

By LouiseEimear |

Your typical American diner which would be perfect for the morning after a big night out. Wrong place if you're looking for something healthy ish or smaller portions! But very tasty all the same.

American Breakfast ❤️

By Thomas M |

This restaurant has been recommended to us by an employee of a self use allocations. (If you read this - Thank you!!) She told us to have the pancakes - and it’s been delicious! Nice atmosphere and I was amazed, as it’s been the second day in the US as a German. Exactly what I was looking for. Good price, good food, good service. Thank you! :) P.S.: sorry for that bite in my food before taking the pic. I was just so hungry.

I won't go back

By SnowWizard |

The Eggs Benedict was beyond terrible. The Hollandaise wasn't Hollandaise - it was worse than out of a jar. I couldn't resuscitate it with a lemon. The Canadian bacon was burnt on the edges. Ham only needs to be warmed, not pan fried, and the muffins were nondescript. The only good thing was the fried potatoes. Not enough to salvage the meal. To top it off, the waiter said, "I tried to warn you off." He should have warned me out the door.

Worth the wait...perfection

By DarianLake25 |

My first trip to the west coast was Fantastic! It was recommended by the folks at encore express hotel! The fact there was going to be a line he said was the only downfall...luckily being an Army vet, no wait is bad...and it wasn't. The service was great, the owner/manager was very active in greeting everyone and making himself present throughout the restaurant. I always have traditional plain pancakes with original syrup, but I tried chocolate pancakes and they made it to perfection! No complaints about the food. The server talked to me and asked questions. Great personality from all the employees and most important...clean! Thanks for the great service

Tasty but...

By Drewski0602 |

We went here with my mother-in-law and brother-in-law for brunch on a Sunday. This was not our first choice that day but restaurants were very busy so this was the first place we encountered that didn't have an hour wait. Our food tasted good and I fm have no complaints as I enjoyed my meal. Perhaps it was busy but I don't think that excuses the marginal service we received. It wasn't bad but we certainly didn't feel welcomed or appreciated. I also had a very good view of the health score certificate posted behind the counter - an 87 would have mad me really happy in high school chemistry class but I like to see my restaurant scores in the mid 90's minimum. I'd probably only go back if my fridge was empty but only because that health score freaks me out - honestly that's probably not fair. I've eaten in some pretty sketchy places in Asia, Central America, and Eastern Europe that didn't have health scores posted that I'm SURE wouldn't get the scores of Toast but since here's no posted score I didn't think about it. Maybe you should ignore this review!

Worth a visit if the wait is not too long!

By Bodrum88 |

First time visit to the restaurant as it was recommended by a local. The wait for a table on New Year's Eve was around 10-15 mins only and the food and coffee tasted very good. I would definitely go again.

Awesome breakfast!

By TinaandJimH |

Great service! The food was serviced fast and hot. LOVED the fresh squeezed orange juice! The french toast was great too!

What a gem!

By stenolass |

Well, we came upon this place purely by chance and am so glad we did! It's nothing special to look at, but the food said it all. Quite simply the best burgers we've ever had anywhere in the world - trust me, that's some compliment!!!! The service was very good and the menu choice was also good. It was very good value for money and we should have eaten there on our second night - would have had a much better meal than we did have! Still, all in all, a great little place and well worth a visit!

Great place for Breakfast

By GIStech |

We were staying in the Holiday Inn on Van Ness so this was really handy just round the corner. We went for breakfast on two mornings and enjoyed it very much. Any of the scrambles were great and the oats with fresh fruit were delicious. Our son tried the chocolate chip pancakes which were enormous and even he struggled to finish them. Lovely coffee, great atmosphere and good value.

Corned beef hash

By MiJaAn |

Firstly. Not sure why they serve corned beef hash with hash potatoes. The whole point is corned beef mixed with potato and friend. Seems its a pile of beef friend. The beef was dry but tasty. Eggs were good. Coffee was tasteless. Service was mediocre.

'Grate' hashbrowns....

By bigchuck68 |

Breakfast was awesome. We had. Burritos, omelets, pancakes...hash is homemade. And freshly grated hash browns. All of the food was great. Give it a try!

Bacon Waffles!

By strax2015 |

Old school diner, hello! Taking out my 94 year old great-aunt is always fun, because dayum, that woman can EAT! Immediately after lunch, she suggests waffles. Of course, being me, I'm down! BF and I order separately, because sometimes, sharing is caring-slash-trying-two-things-at-once. He got the nutella and banana pancakes, which is always a crowdpleaser. I decided on the All-American Option - bacon waffles. They did not disappoint. The bacon waffles were jam packed with big, juicy bits of bacon. The nutella and banana...well, really, where can you go wrong? Service was good, and prompt, though they completely missed my order of fresh orange juice...oh well! Who am I kidding, anyways? Like the OJ is going to offset the bacon! Overall, it was a tasty, happy experience. Great auntie tried all of our waffles, and ordered a plain waffle herself. Smiles all around!

Great Diner

By WCH20693 |

Spent a few days in San Francisco and had the opportunity to dine at Toast a couple times. While there are a lot of restaurants along Polk Street, Toast stands out for the food, the price, the service, and the cleanliness. I enjoyed a dinner and a breakfast there and both were great! They tend to be busy, but they still manage to provide personable service in a timely manner. I would describe the food as "upscale diner" food without the grease. And I found it be one of the cleaner establishments along Polk. Enjoyed my meals there immensely! Will go there again next month during my next trip to San Francisco.

Get your full Irish here?

By Victoria T |

Great breakfast menu, especially the full Irish Breakfast. Good coffee, good service, and inside and outside seating.

Solid breakfast, reasonable prices, great coffee

By Sharon D |

This is my Go to breakfast place in this area because all the breakfasts are cooked perfectly. I esp like the corn beef hash but the pancake platters are good too. Prices are reasonable for SF and there usually isn't a wait on a weekday. I often have to get to work between 6 and 7 am and will eat a late breakfast here with friends. Coffee is good and strong, which is what it should be at a diner. And efficient, friendly service. Triple win.

Very yummy local food!

By schav33 |

I like to eat where the locals eat whenever I go anywhere. So this place hit the spot! The breakfast here was amazing. Not too crowded, we were there around 10 and the service was good! I liked the laid-back ambiance.

Avoid at all costs

By Eimear M |

Toast was recommend on a SF review site for breakfast in the Nob Hill area. I was craving a good American breakfast. When we arrived it was almost empty and that should have been the signal to leave. The coffee was cold and tasted of nothing. It was from a machine. It was replaced and whilst warmer still tasted of water. I ordered egg, bacon, hash brown and a pancake. The bacon was old. The egg was raw and I sent it back. I feel physically sick and paid $50 for the privilege.

Good food. Good vibes.

By cdproctor |

Just what I needed. Busy but great service and excellent food. I will return. Indoor and outdoor tables. I had steak and eggs, and it was awesome. Reasonable price. Happy that this near my hotel.

Nice brunch experience

By Angelo P |

a nice spot to have a relaxed brunch without all that fancy stuff but good food and good drinks. big perk of this venue is the possibility to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Staff is nice and reliable. a definitely good suggestion

Do not hesitate

By zakouski |

Perfect service, Eggs Benedict and orange juice. I enjoyed myself in this crowded, lively, cosmopolitan place. Correct prices

Nice family place

By Thomas M |

My family had a long day of sightseeing and were looking for a nice spot. This was great. We all had breakfast at 9pm. Large portions and not bad price !!!

Breakfast

Was looking for breakfast and we found it ...simple but very filling good food good service can't recommend it enough

Biscuits and Gravy SF Style

By AmgE55 |

We arrived just in time to snag the last open table at 9am on a Monday. There was a steady stream of people flowing in and out. Service was quick and courteous, looks like a very efficient operation to serve breakfast to as many as possible in the breakfast hours. My biscuits and gravy came with one large biscuit - I had envisioned two or even three biscuits with gravy on top, but this one was okay. There were sprinkling of scallions on top, something I've never had on my biscuits and gravy before, but it was just the right touch excellently done. The pancakes with strawberries were nice and fluffy, not too overly sweet overall. Good balance to the savory biscuits and gravy. It was nice to have a good breakfast place close to the hotel without having to pay the high priced hotel breakfast. Looks like they have all-day fare to dinner too.

OMG it beat me! English man in San Francisco

By Paul S |

After a recommendation to put our hire car in a well priced garage we were advised to visit toast as they do good breakfast. Now the recommendation was good but other though so too as it quickly filled up from 7am. The wife was eggs benedict and as an English man abroad it was the full stack of pancakes like in the movies with extra maple syrup - the breakfast of heart attacks.... I'm still alive but even I could not demolish it. Coffee was superb and plentiful, the waitress was attentive and ploite I'm loving San Fransisco

Fantastic breakfasts!!

By Stephanie G |

We had breakfast here a couple of times whilst in SAN Francisco, amazing food, friendly staff and great customer service. Definitely worth a visit.

A Great Place for A Reliable Breakfast

By D Koa |

We grabbed breakfast here one morning prior to heading out to the Golden Gate bridge. This restaurant is part of a chain and appears to be fairly consistent in its food quality and service. We had an american breakfast and oatmeal and both were fine. Would recommend this place.

Good breakfast!

By ekta p |

My first day in SFO and tried the breakfast here. The service was a bit slow but the breakfast options were decent. However the scrambled was very different from what I have tried elsewhere.

Your Average Breakfast/lunch Diner

By Kelsdogger |

I was visiting a friend who lives near Nob Hill in San Francisco and we wanted to grab a simple lunch and he knew of this place. It serves breakfast all day. There is also a lunch menu serving your diner classics like burgers, fries, melts and more. My buddy had an awesome milk shake that was made the old fashioned way. The food was simple and nothing super fancy.

Worth a second visit

By blaa_in_exile |

My family had breakfast twice here over the course of a weekend visit to San Francisco. It's a lovely quirky little place with great service and delicious breakfast. We all left very satisfied.

TOAST

By LennetteN |

This was recommended to us by a local. We made a reservation for Sunday breakfast time and its a good thing because all the diners near and around Polk street had lines out the door. I can't say my eggs and toast were anything wonderful but the menu had a long list of breakfast items the more daring might try and they serve breakfast all day.

First breakfast in San Francisco

By David P |

Close to the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway this was a perfect location to start our Californian vacation with a classic American breakfast. Friendly staff, fast service and fantastic food. Worth going back just for the crispy bacon and maple syrup!

Nice

By Andrew Seymour |

Very friendly very simple down to earth place ,lots of choice and happy to mix and match from menu.. Very pleasant staff great value clean and nice ...

Great food. Friendly staff. Walking distance from our hotel.

By TLE90069 |

This was walking distance from our hotel on Van Ness. Great food. Great selection. Friendly staff. Great friendly service. Arrived early and glad we did as this place was busy.

Perfection

By A B |

Amazing! The food was delicious and the perfect portion size. The French toast was some of the best I have ever had. 10/10

Good food

By Sangnanli |

We stopped there today coming off the cable car, my boyfriend had a burger and I had the breakfast burrito, both were good quality and good size. The staff was friendly good place for a quick lunch.

Pleasantly Surprised

By Alexis O |

When you walk in, you think it's some hole in the wall type of eatery that isn't going to be very good. Don't let the looks fool you. This place has amazing food for an amazing price! Their burgers are huge and very delicious. Service was pretty good, not the best, but not the worst either.

Good food but absent service.

By 1SFOSO |

The good: jalapeño burger, grilled cheese sandwich, fries, and the hostess. The not so good: indifferent and poor service...when you are told the soup of the day is minestrone and you are brought clam chowder with no explanation...the waiter never checks in with you after dropping off the food and scurrying away...you are brought the check and you have to ask for a refill of coffee because your waiter doesn't know how to wait on you.

Great Food. Get there early.

By JaneKampsten |

We wandered into Toast for some breakfast - it was a great little restaurant. I got the bagel with avacado and onions - delicious, but the waffles I skipped that walked by looked amazing. By the time we left at 9:45 there was a significant line out the door (and it was a Friday) but at 9am we were able to get right in.

"Great for Neighborhood dining"

By nagasefong |

Went to Polk Street "Toast" again to make the comparison to their other location on 24th Street about their corned beef hash for breakfast. They have now are making "all dishes the same" at all three locations. The corned beef hash is now as good as their other restaurant Also tried their banana pancakes with a side of fresh fruit. Their service is exceptional and always accommodating . They have booths as well as tables along their windows.. The breakfast menu is quite extensive, from waffles and pancakes to Huevos Rancheros or Lox Benedict. Tried their chicken breast sandwich on a Ciabatta roll , sharing it with a friend. Not too much on chicken, but this was quite tasty. This restaurant opens daily at 7 am until 10 pm. Go early on weekends, becomes very "packed" after 9 am.

Good place for breakfast

By Scott H |

The service was quick and the prices reasonable. The Godfather Omelette and breakfast burrito were delicious.

Very Cute Diner in San Francisco

By LeClef |

I was in San Francisco a few weeks ago and near my hotel was a very cute little diner called Toast Eatery. There are, evidently, several of these in the SF area. I was in the one on Polk St. Here is it's web address; http://toasteateryonpolk.com/ A very friendly local place with a nice selection of unusual and tasty omelets. They seem to specialize in breakfast dishes, and they are served all day, but there are also lunch and dinner menus. I recommend this place highly. One thing, Trip Advisor asked me "Is this one of the best meals you've ever had in a restaurant". I think this question is phrased inappropriately and it threw me off. I answered "Yes" because to have answered "No" would have sounded derogatory to the restaurant in question. Over the last 45 years I have dined at some of the most wonderful restaurants in America and Europe. With this in mind, Toast Eatery is NOT one of the best meals I've ever had in a restaurant. But I had breakfast at Toast, I enjoyed it very much, and I rate it Excellent.

Perfect place for breakfast

By David |

We ate here every day during our stay - The food was fantastic and the waitresses are friendly and attentive. What more do you need? The Godfather omelette definitely set me up for the day!

Great Breakfast Eatery

By Steven T |

Pricing was very reasonable, Hospitality was great, the Food even better. The best corned beef hash ever, set a new bar for me. Every one of the staff was very polite and talkative, we could not have asked for more. In our opinion everything was far better than our experiences at the hotels. Next time in SF we will absolutely go there again. Have already told our friends who will be traveling to SF to be sure to look up this eatery.

Excellent breakfast menu

By cool_satchmo |

Reasonably priced and quick service restaurant offering lots of choices for breakfast. Recommended to visit if you are living in the vicinity

Great food and service.

By Dave F |

Ate here a couple of times and the food, service and ambiance were excellent. I'd recommend wholeheartedly.

The breakfast you dream about in your sleep

By Aparna J |

This is not the place to go for that healthy, stereotypical, Californian breakfast. This is the place where you go to indulge on your cheat day. If you want hashbrowns, topped with cheese, sour cream, and more cheese...yes.

Great Breakfast

By Glennalan4458 |

We kept looking at the menu here, and finally had to stop in. The Hash Brown Hil is great. Add a couple of eggs and it is more than enough to share. Note that the place gets busy on the weekends.

Perfect location for good breakfast & family friendly

By retpanda |

Found this place near our hotel ( holiday inn ) at Polk Street. Wide variety of breakfast with eggs. My favourite was the Egg Benedict and my kids loved the waffels with bananas. Very friendly staff and place was down to earth, efficient and clean.

Wonderful little eatery...

By emilio_tx |

We had breakfast at Toast Eatery, actually walked from our hotel, super close and it was such a great choice. The food was fantastic, service was exceptional and we really enjoyed this place. I would definitely recommend and I would come back.

Local and yummy!

By LaurenConcierge13 |

Toast was introduced to me by a friend in my new neighborhood and I'm glad. The menu has a laid back diner feel with a cafe style menu. The SF themed scrambles were super yummy and everything tasted fresh. The "toast" of the meal is toast itself all homemade and served with fresh butter and preserves. If your looking for simple while exploring polk street, you can't go wrong with TOAST!

Great food

By DennisenEveline |

We went here looking for a good place to have breakfast. It's very clean and the food is great. The menu is varied and the service is good. Only downside is that it is slightly pricey

Simple and delicious breakfast!

By Alex P |

Toast was exactly what my wife and I were looking for early in the morning. During our time in San Francisco, we stayed in the Polk area of town and stumbled across Toast, whilst looking for breakfast. The coffee was great, the ice tea: perfect. We loved our omelettes so much that we came back the following day! Highly recommend.

Typical food, can get really hot inside

By amylfed |

I liked this place the first time I went. I thought it was expensive for basic food, but was good. So I went back again yesterday, and it was like a million degrees in there. We sat for 2min, and left because it was so hot.

Great place for breakfast

By Gypsy008 |

In search of a good American breakfast menu and this place had it. Quickly served, I had the pancake stack with bananas. All served quickly, politely, hot and tasty. Glad I chose this one.

More than just a diner ...

By doug b |

This is a place for locals ... which makes it a place for me. Breakfast all day, count me in. Clean, well staffed, good food with a diner-with-a-twist menu. Enjoy.

Good size, good Price, good service

By Lovinghol |

Staying in Union Square but worth the 15 min walk. Staff were friendly and attentive and lots of options on the menu. I had pancakes, scrambled egg, sausages, hash brown and yummy coffee. All cooked well - sausages were a bit squashed and flat but still yummy

Reliable staple

By Miguel S |

I live in the neighborhood and eat here frequently . The service is always good with friendly workers. The food is your typical diner food with a few nice twists. The prices are average for the area so no complaints from me. I highly recommend this place. FYI - if you go on the weekend you might need to waIt for a table . It gets pretty busy.

Good American Sunday Breakfast

By Paxlot |

Comes recommended. Full of locals which is always a good indicator or a place worth a visit. Service quick efficient and friendly Just Great!

Good morning start

By Jose P |

Good place yo start any day. Plenty if cider w breakfast Affordable and varied choices in menu Attentive staff and expedited service Good quality

Dine inside

By Anton V |

The menu was great. Food even better. We were there for lunch but breakfast is served all day. The Hashbrown Hill is as good as it sounds. Do Not dine outside, no matter how nice the day is. We were continually harassed by passer by and a couple of drunks. Nothing much the restaurant could do, just avoid the situation and dine inside.

Basic Breakfast

By TravelMacks |

Waited for a table at this small diner, then waited again for the server yo visit said table. Once she arrived, she was friendly. Food was fine. Decent menu of basic breakfast items.

There's something about breakfast food...

By pandacookies |

My daughter and I make try to make a yearly trip to San Francisco and we always have breakfast at least once at Toast. The food here is really great and the service has always been good. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot for what you pay. I try to have something different each time I visit, but the one thing that is constant, at least for me, are the hash browns...heaven! Helpful hints for people visiting from out of town - this place is small, and often times has a line, so enjoy your food, but try not to linger. Also, California is in a drought, so you won't get water unless you ask for it. This is one of my favorite places to eat in San Francisco for simple, good food.

Good for breakfast

By Mikesalter |

Came here for breakfast. Enjoyed freindly service and a good eggs benedict. Very well cooked poached eggs but what was called an English muffin we brits call a crumpet. Good food and good atmosphere. Price however was high meaning I knocked a star off, could even be average if value is,a priority.

Decent food, decent prices.

By kurdiish |

A good place to come for breakfast or lunch. There is a good choice for breakfast and the staff are quick and polite. Would recommend

Best breakfast

By Mumswallet |

Generic diner with an array of Mexican dishes as well as pancakes. Eggs Benedict the best. Corner position. It's always busy. All day breakfast.

Ok

By Crpsar |

Food was really nice but waiter was quite off We had finished our food and we’re about to order more coffee and he just chucked the bill on the table no offer of anymore drinks wasn’t too busy in there as they were only taking cash no cards people kept leaving We will opt for somewhere else for breakfast next time

What's the fuss?

By Amadeus-SFO |

Rushed there when it opened, and haven't been back since. Long lines, slow service, cold food. Don't know where it got it's great reputation from, but it definitely wasn't the Polk Street venue.

Great Breakfast

By island900 |

Stopped in one morning for breakfast in December and found everything really great. The waitress served with a smile, the decor was clean warm and bright, and the food was fantastic.

Nice Breakfast Nook

By Zoom_Gotti |

Small, clean restaurant on the corner of Polk and Sacramento. Wonderful neighborhood on bus route toward the Bay. Mostly a breakfast menu but offers lunch items, burgers and more substantial meals, too. Closes down around 4PM. Good food preparation and pleasant staff. But can get crowded though there's now outdoor patio seating, too.

Decent

By isletripper |

Ate a tuna melt and my daughter had a grilled cheese. I added fresh fruit to share, and it was a good meal. Service was not the greatest, but it is a diner. Problems with the bill and order itself. Oh well, it was decent.

Top Notch

By Mike A |

I travel to San Francisco often on busy and I try to get to Toast for breakfast when I'm there. Great coffee, and one of my favorites, Corned Beef Hash...it's made the way I grew up eating it with the meat shredded...hash browns that come with it are terrific. This place is a no brainer...

The day started at Toast

By JLo-Denmead |

The diner is clean and all staff welcoming. We ate here for breakfast every day and enjoyed watching Polk Street coming to life. I can't comment much on the food as Oatmeal and Coffee did not challenge the kitchen!

Good, Hearty Breakfast

By CoopsMom1 |

Walked here from our hotel. Clean, modern, simple interior. Nice selection of breakfast entrees and a la carte. Enjoyed the Toast combo and hubs had the Godfather omelet. Good quality food. Classy diner. Prompt service.

Just an Okay Experience at Toast

By Miss P |

I visited Toast for a lunch outing with my mom. She’s at an age where she doesn’t eat much, so we usually share a main dish and order an extra side. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy—just a few tables with small groups—so I was surprised that it took about 17 minutes for our food to arrive. I was keeping an eye on the time because we had another appointment right after lunch. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with hash browns. It was fine, nothing memorable but it did the job. I’d rate it a 4 out of 5. We also added a short stack of pancakes, which unfortunately was disappointing. The pancakes were dry and had a bitter flavor. When I flipped them over, I saw they were burned on the bottom. We didn’t have time to send them back, so we just let it go, but it was a clear miss—2 out of 4 for that. Service also left something to be desired. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive and it took a while to get our water refilled. I’d give the service a 3 out of 5. Overall, I’d rate Toast a 3 out of 5. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it wasn’t great either. I’m not in a hurry to return, though I wouldn’t completely write it off for the future.

I wish i could give it a 3.5

By Autumn M |

the breakfast here was pretty good. Slightly better than a diner but not as good as speciality breakfast. The omlet came packed with stuff. The hashbrowns were ok.

Great local restaurant

By Lobby62 |

We stayed in the Noe Valley during our week holiday and ate breakfast twice at Toast. The croissant French toast is beautiful. Buttery, sweet and the fruit is a perfect addition. My husband enjoyed the corned beef hash and the chicken fried steak. Friendly and casual.

Breakfast to set you up for the whole day

By ali j |

Anyone who makes their own fresh and crispy hash browns from scratch and serves them with proper corned beef made from slow cooked and shredded brisket has my vote. Omelettes and breakfast burrito also good. A great place for a sturdy start to the day

Delicious

By coleincaz |

My husband and I stopped into this cute and vibrant little spot on our way home from the city. While trying to find a place to park was infuriating, the delicious breakfast, perfectly poured mimosa, and the friendly, efficient staff made the difficult time parking well worth it. We each had an omelette and a mimosa. My husband said it was one of the best omelette's he has ever had and mine was absolutely mouth watering as well. The mimosas were generously poured and the waiter was prompt and very friendly and helpful. The price was very reasonable for how much food you get. I would definitely revisit this restaurant and recommend it to others. It's a wonderful little place.

Excellent American Breakfast!!

By Joanna3177 |

Dined here twice in September 2015 for breakfast. There is a large menu with lots of options for breakfast and lunch. I opted for Eggs benedict once and the Toast Combo the second time. Both were delicious and the hash browns are some of the best I have tried!

Quick breakfast

By DjAnderson |

Service was quick and friendly. Food was nicely cooked. Centrally located and easy to get to. Great place to grab a quick bite and then be off.

Chicken fried steak was incredible! We went two days in a row and loved it. Staff was helpful and prompt.

Honest food, diner style breakfast

By Salpal2014 |

We enjoyed brunch here, service was efficient and friendly. We ordered Americano coffees, but served what tasted like drip coffee, so not great on that front. Lox Benedict was served on a toasted muffin, the Salmon was scant, but poached eggs were nicely cooked and Benedict sauce was fine. The muffin was burnt underneath, but not too badly. The Hasbrown served with the eggs was delicious. The breakfast burrito was tasty, perhaps the white sauce was a bit heavy handed and no beans appeared to be in the burrito. The scrambled egg in the burrito was nicely prepared. Overall it was a pleasant meal in nice Cafe/diner atmosphere, the place was humming, but not crowded, a few niggly points made it an average rating for me.

Trendy but not good

By robert4704 |

This place is a typical greasy spoon that serves American fare. I had a Denver omelet and hash brown potatoes. The omelette was over cooked but worst of all the ingredients were of low quality. The ham used was packaged and the cheese was also low quality. You could tell because neither had much flavor. The potatoes were crisp outside but gummy inside. There is a proper way to make has Browns but this place has not learned it. The coffe was typical bad American coffee which is to be expected as that is what American runs on. The food here mediocre at best . Keep looking for another place or skip breakfast and opt for a bigger lunch some where else.

Tasty, affordable food and great service

Visited for breakfast and were seated quickly. I had the wet veggie burrito which was excellent, large serving and tasted great. My husband had the black stone eggs Benedict which he also said was excellent. Great breakfast and not too expensive. Also the wait staff and counter staff were extremely friendly and service was fast and attentive. Also, they were very accommodating to a veteran customer in a wheelchair when I was there, always nice to see. Keep up the good work!

Breakfast of Champions

By Bonnie M |

Ok, so the place isn't fancy-more of a diner feel. But the breakfast was awesome. My 16 year old said it was one of the best breakfast burritos he'd ever had (and this boy can EAT) My husband loved his eggs benedict, I got to share a bite of my daughter's nutella/banana pancakes and I indulged in Hashbrown Hill. Oh yeah, not for the faint of heart: literally a mound of hashbrowns with melted cheese and sour cream. Old fashioned milk shakes done right too. We kept eyeballing other people's plates, so we'll definitely be back. It's Polk St, so you have to have a little parking karma, but it's so worth it! We found the place quite by accident, and are glad we did. The place is small, so you might have to wait. We only waited about 20 mins.

Breakfast-Brunch well done

By Mike P |

This small place reminds me a bit of the old-time diners with lots of breakfast menu items. The staff/waiters are very friendly and the service was great. My eggs Florentine was excellent and the coffee was hot and robust. My daughters over-easy with chicken sausage was done perfectly and the whole wheat toast was hearty and thick. This was the first time we were able to get in without waiting in line (it was 11 am on a Saturday). All in all a good place for breakfast or brunch.

Okay food. Service subpar.

I have been to Toast Eatry two or three times on slower weekday and it was good. But my recent visit to Toast left me unsatisfied. I was a single top arriving around noon on a Saturday. It was super busy but I was seated at the counter right away. It doesn't take me long to order because I always get the veggie burger with cheese. It's an expensive burger, $12 total that's with cheese and sweet potato fries. I was kind enough to move to the small handicap table so they could seat more people at the counter. I sat for a long time before being greeted. I work in a restaurant and I understand my waitress was busy with her full section, but dude at counter couldn't help out by pouring my a drink?! The counter server was not a team player and only help specific clients. Once I received my food, the veggie patty had been cut in half or something. Looked a little mangled on the bun. But they got the right fixing so it was fine. The sweet potato fries were a little burnt. My frustration came to the end of my meal. The waitress check on me and brought me my bill. Then she got busy helping her section. I was left to the devices of counter man. Who looked over my check book multiple times while my bright red bank card openly poked out. I understand technically I was not His customer but help a sister out, pull over the tab, and run the damn check! Restaurants only work when everyone helps. I was frustrated. I missed my bus twice. Then I finally paid with cash so I didn't have to wait. I paid $25 for a veggie burger with cheese, mimosa, and tip. $25 for one person, you'd think they'd put a little pep in their step. Sadly I will not be returning because this is the second bad experience I've had. No more Toast on Polk for me.

Great breakfast spot in San Francisco!!!

Recommended by hotel staff as their favourite, we had to try it. When we arrived, there was a bit of a queue outside, but we had a table within minutes. Very efficient! A bit of confusion from waiters about which order should go to what table, but they eventually got it right. Delicious food, very attentive and friendly waiters/waitresses. Can highly recommend this!

Pretty basic breakfast fare - but good

By flash54 |

Toast has good diner breakfast food - nothing fancy, just good. I had the Banana Walnut pancakes, which was fine. I would have liked a few more banana slices - but that is just a nit-pick. Prices were average for this sort of place - maybe a tiny bit high, but not unreasonably so.

Never on a Sunday

By Alan H |

We had breakfast at 'Toast' - the one on Polk Street - on the last two mornings in the States. We were coming to the end of a 21-day 'Coast to Coast' trip. We stumbled on it, but on the Sunday morning - with no reservation - we had to leave our names and come back an hour later. The joint was jumping, but the food and service were great when we managed to get inside! We came back on the Monday morning and walked straight in - I guess everyone else had gone to work. A terrific version of an American icon.

Sunday Breakfast

Good diner food. Lots of fruit on the oatmeal, crisp bacon. Waffles tasty but not warm. Great crowd, efficient wait staff. Maybe a bit pricey for diner breakfast, but it is in San Francisco, so that’s expected.

Tasty lunch

Popped in after reading Tripadvisor reviews and couldn't complain. Great burgers, typical friendly American service, no complaints other than being visually paralysed by the tv showing a ball game thus reducing personal conversation ;)

Breakfast done right

By REDRENSINK |

Read the reviews and this was our first stop. Toast didn't disappoint. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food was great. And there's really no reason to go past The Hashbrown Hill. Matter of fact, we're going again tomorrow.

Great breakfasts

We enjoyed breakfast here. Shout out to the lovely avocado in toast, delicious and good bread. Choice of fruit for the pancakes. Good service.

Walking around Polk this morning I came upon Toast eatery . It is a fun place to have a great breakfast with many choices . The coffee was hot as I looked over the great menu and decided on the Tomatillo Chilaquiles with chicken. Looked over my neighbors plAtes to see great offerings that looked just as delicious .now time to eat.

Amazing Breakfast

This is a great place to have breakfast. It is very clean and happy inside. The food was great. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was really really good. It was a bit on the pricey side of things though. So maybe not real good value.

Excellent find

By beetlesquasher |

A really nice place. Food was excellent (4 dishes tried) with ample portions, freshly cooked and fast service. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the bill was very reasonable. Menu was extensive (they service breakfast dishes all day) although dinner options were a little more limited. I had a great Cobb salad and the sandwiches and burger looked good as well. If I had known it was there earlier I would have gone before. I recommend a visit.

The perfect little diner on Polk

By scrass |

Perfection! If I were to draw up my perfect diner, this is it! Cute and clean - great people watching as it’s a corner lot. Good service and wonderful food. A lot to choose from on the menu at reasonable prices.

Mediocre, at best.

By KWascher |

This place was mediocre at best. My husband's wet burrito and hash browns were just fine, but my order was not done as well. My toast was burnt, along with the english muffins on my Egg Benedict--I don't believe you should call yourself "Toast" if you burn the food that requires toasting. Isn't it simple enough to make some new toast if you burn it? A customer should never be served anything burnt. They also forgot about my fruit and cottage cheese, which I had to ask twice about. The communication was terrible here. They also lost our credit card when we payed and found it laying on the floor in the restaurant--unacceptable! We were not pleased with the service, communication of the staff, or my meal. And for all that we payed ridiculously high prices for a mediocre breakfast meal! We would not go back or recommend this place.

Food great, service👎🏻

Breakfast was super delicious! The service under every sow! It's a pity we can't understand that...... Would be that simple.

Very impressed with this Cafe!

By Stuggy123 |

We stopped off here for breakfast following a recommendation. We were impressed from the moment we stepped inside! Immaculately clean, polite friendly staff who dealt with our requests professionally and efficiently. Food was fabulous and very competitively priced. We were hugely impressed with the whole dining experience and we're sorry it was out last day in San Fran, or we would certainly be returning. Highly recommended!!!

Worth a stop

By Snakewrangler |

Small place but very clean, bright and new. The waitress was pretty good (seemed a little "new" - but pretty good service) The food came out a little awkward (not at the same time) but the portions were plenty filling. The price paid was as expected for San Francisco. I did not feel cheated in anyway. Good place.

The BEST!

This is the most awesome breakfast place in the City! The service is fantastic, the food is incredibly delicious, and the ambiance is fun! Make it a point to drop by!

Great breakfast spot!

By Tara A |

We went here twice for breakfast during our stay, because it was just around the corner from our hotel. And it was wonderful! I recommend the Denver scrambler. Their scramblers and omelets were very good. Great service as well. Highly recommend for breakfast!

Tasty

By sidvicicious |

Consist and good. (slightly pricey, but they can be). My only complaint/suggestion would be to ask that they more thoroughly cook the hash browns. (Often they are brown on the outside, but still raw-ish on the inside)

Excellent Breakfast!!

By ian1811 |

We ended up going here 2 mornings in a row for breakfast, and that's only because it was the last 2 days of our stay in San Francisco! The staff were very friendly. Good range on the menu. You certainly get a plateful to set you up for the day :). Eggs, pancakes, bacon what's not to love, and being Scottish it was nice to get a good cup of tea! 2 mugs per pot :)
