The food was delicious but the margarita was wonderful. This is a little out of the way from the action but well worth the visit.

Went twice in one week. The food was good and can't beat the happy hour and karaoke on Wednesdays. The service was also excellent even during the busy times. Can't wait ti go back!

This is a great place to eat. Starting with the staff, very friendly, menu had a variety, with reasonable price, homemade tortillas, hot sauce & chips were delicious, and so were the fajitas.

We were in San Antonio visiting of daughter and decided to try Tomatillo’s. The food is very good and typical Mexican fare. Jason was our server and did an awesome job (even when overwhelmed with a large party of 20). Good happy hour prices and fresh guacamole made table side. Large parking lot and plenty of room inside. Well worth the visit.

In town visiting a friend at the base. We got a late start so got to restaurant around 1:00. Not too busy, got seated pretty quickly for 8 people. Food was pretty good, about average for Mexican food. What made this such a great experience was our waiter. He was great with questions, got everything right with our orders and kept glasses and chips full. Even with average food, I’d go back for the experience.

I love Tomatillos!! I come here at least twice a month to treat myself to am amazing Taco Salad. The queso cannot be beaten either! The people are great, the environment is relaxed, and the food never disappoints!

The service was fast and food was ok. I had not been here in like 20+ years. I came for lunch and there were not a lot cars in the parking lot. There are better choices for Mexican food for lunch.

This place has ample space for very large parties and long tables that can accommodate. It is hit and miss on the crowd control--some days I come in and find it maxed out and other days, there is hardly anyone there, so call ahead if you do have a large bunch. It is a sister restaurant to La Fogata with a different menu, but equally great food.

It has been some time since I've eaten here (no reason) and eating here today has reminded me I need to eat here more often. Every thing was outstanding for a "La Fonda" type restaurant. I had the Beef Fajita Burrito which I thoroughly enjoyed! The service could not have been better. Will be back soon!

We dined here with friends on Friday night. Had originally planned to dine at another Tex-Mex restaurant nearby, which was unexpectedly closed for emergency repairs, so someone in our party suggested we go to Tomatillo's as a back-up. Let me start with the good: (1) Restaurant was large with several parking lots and despite what appeared to be a huge number of cars outside, we (party of 8) were shown to a table and seated immediately at 6:30 on a Friday night. The interior is very spacious with several rooms, albeit a bit noisy. (2) They offer a 20% military discount (3) portions were ample. (4) Charro beans had a nice kick. The not-so-good or could-be-better: (1) My chicken enchiladas were very salty. There was a lot of shredded, white meat chicken within the enchilidas, which was a nice surprise, but something was very salty. Tomatillo sauce was very bland and tasted almost out of a can or jar. Definitely not one of the better in town. Rice was very average. (2) Service was altogether good, but there were about 3 people it seemed looking after our table -- they guy who took the initial order disappeared and food was brought by a woman. We were checked on by another individual. Then the original man came with the check. A little confusing not having one central person (and no, it did not appear that one of them was a bus boy/girl). So, in conclusion, I was really hoping to be wowed, but wasn't. I *might* return, but would not go out of my way to do so.

Ate here 10 days ago. Family told us this was their favorite Mexican restaurant. We were hungry after a long drive from Las Cruces, New Mexico, so we ate here. Food was decent, but the table side guacamole needed some garlic, either powder or salt, to quickly enhance the flavor. And they should have used lime instead of lemon to make the flavor memorable. Just ok.

The food wasn’t necessarily better or different from any other Mexican place but the environment was fun and service was great.

My cousin said this was the best Mexican food restaurant in his opinion (in the San Antonio area) and I confirm that. We had a party of 5 and all of us were satisfied. Service was quick and the food HOT when served. I compliment them on their large portions and very clean atmosphere; very festive decoration this time of year as well. I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the San Antonio area.

Food was very awesome and service was exceptional. Prices were reasonable. Salsa has great and the steak fajitas had the best flavor I've ever had for them anywhere.

Went there for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. They had a great assortment of margaritas we tried several different ones and they all were great. Got the beef fajitas and they were excellent. Chili con queso wasn't the best but we were overall pleased and when I got the bill I was shocked at the value. Happy hour is a great time to go for food and drinks. I will surely return and try this place again.

Went to this restaurant for the first time for a business event by recommendation of some team members. Food was okay. Not as good as what some of the reviews state. Ambiance was good that night because they had karaoke so it made it more enjoyable. Service was not great. Biggest disappointment is they charged us 20% gratuity on a group of eight. After reviewing the menu the following day found that it states that they will charge 18% gratuity on parties of 6 or more and 20% on parties of 20 or more. Not sure how they figured a group of 8 was worth 20% tip. Found out later form other people that they tend to overcharge larger groups for food or drinks not ordered or higher tips than the actual service provided.

Yummy Mexican food ....delish margaritas. After eating at a few places on the Riverwalk, we tried a friend's favorite. Service was fast and food was good quality Tex Mex.

On a Tuesday there was 30-40 dirty glasses on the bar . Our waiter was vet apologetic, no excuse your going to have to pay foe more help. It’s not easy as no one wants $8.50 any more . Good luck . One bartender with a limp forced to walk to get ice. No help .

When family and friends visiting, this is the location of choice for great atmosphere, staff, and drinks. Our favorite appetizer as many locations no longer serve "Queso flameado" in its flambé style. (Mexican dish of hot melted cheese and spicy chorizo). Something everyone should try once...

Nothing bad to say! Go during happy hour! Margueritas are so good, esp the Guava. Table side guacamole was perfect. Tried a total of 7 items and all were just as richly seasoned. The corn tortillas were some of the best I ever tried.

If I had not been with friends, I would have left after the first bite! Worst restaurant I have been to in San Antonio in years! Maybe it was good at one time but pass this place up now.

Our server wasnt friendly or helpful. She seemed to not have been trained to serve. Specials weren't mentioned, suggestions weren't made, she never asked if we were satisfied with anything we had, dessert wasn't offered.

This local establishment has been around for a while. The open dining area and tables lend to the image. The margaritas were large and not bad. We both had the chimichangas. The one with beef and red sauce was a bit bland while the one with chicken and green sauce was more tasty. Will not be on our list to try again.

The beverages were fantastic. The Wednesday night karaoke was awesome. I had the chicken chimichanga, I loved it. This place was very loud and had a huge college age crowd. It was a fun place. I would absolutely be back.

Tomatillo's has been there as long as I can remember and is a "must" when I come back to visit. It did not disappoint either. Food was great, reasonable, and plentiful. Service was good as was the happy hour. It's not on the river so it is away from most the tourists and definitely more of a locals restaurant. Glad to see an old standby is just as tasty as I remember.

Stopped by at Tomatillo's restraunt and Bar to start off a Best friends Birthday bash and had the Chamoy Margarita's these were the Best in the City!! They even had the Chamoy stick!! Loved it!

Guess that old adage about going back home is true. Having dined here many times in the 90’s and early 2000’s we were spoiled by the great food and service back then. We stopped in for an early dinner on Saturday to beat the crowd and were not spoiled by either the food or some parts of the service. Perhaps we should have turned around when we noticed 8-10 tables hadn’t been cleared and we had to wait to be acknowledged. We also had to wait while they cleared a booth for our party of four. Fajitas were overcooked and sure didn’t look like a half pound portion. Charro beans were good. Tortillas were so so a bit thin and not those I remember from the past. Guess we were just too spoiled by the Tomatillos back in the day.

Good food good price great atmosphere. Looking at using for rehearsal dinner site. Colorful and private rooom available.

When I lived in San Antonio 18 years ago this was the place to eat. Not sure what the heck happened?! I was in San Antonio on a business trip and decided to eat here after many years not going to Tomatillo's. I arrived at lunch time; not crowded. Should have been my first clue, but thinking must be an off day for Tomatillo's. NOT! Service was awful. Waited several minutes to even be recognized at a table. Then took drink order. Waited, Waited, and waited. Still no chips and salsa. Then here they come. Chips were terrible, salsa not bad. After a few minutes I was out of salsa and she could see the tiny bowl was empty. Never even asked if I wanted more. Figured she is busy.... I ordered the enchilada's and again, so so. Had to ask for flour tortillas, huh, what? Too bad as this used to be the place to go. I won't be back.

I have been eating at Tomatillo's several times year since the late 1990's. They have always had good service, attentive management and excellent Mexican food. They used to have a fun menu of specialty drinks. My favorite was the tri-color (red white and blue) frozen margarita. All of that is gone. We went around 2PM on a Tuesday afternoon. The place was about 1/4 full, about what you'd expect at that time slot. The menu had changed almost entirely. The fun drinks were nowhere to be found. There was no drink menu on the bar or on the tables, or even at the hostess stand. The variety of items on the lunch menu was about half of what it used to be. We were seated promptly. Twenty minutes later no one had even come to our table. Several waitresses and a waiter had passed by, looked at us, and kept on going. One of our party went and found the manager. Eventually a very grumpy waitress finally showed up and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We asked for water and one frozen margarita. It took her almost 10 minutes to return with water. The margarita was exceedingly bland. In a town like San Antonio, a restaurant simply cannot afford to make bland and boring margaritas. The waitress came back after a few minutes and took our order. We had 6 people. Everybody ordered and the food came out after another 25 minutes or so. The waitress told us the plates were very hot. What a joke! Everyone's food was cold. My enchiladas tres colores (formerly a house specialty) were so cold, greasy and disgusting that I would have preferred eating at Taco Bell. My wife's flautas and rice were stone cold. Everyone else at our table had the same problem - cold greasy disgusting food. Not at all the level of excellence which Tomatillo's used to be famous for producing. I asked the waitress to send the manager over. He argued with us that the food was not cold. He would not even try a sample of any of the food. Even the worst restaurant manager should know enough to test the temperature of the food before arguing with the customer. He insisted that the food had come directly from the oven. What oven? The one down the street? Was that why the food was so cold? They had to ship it in from another restaurant's reject pile? Tomatillo's is doomed. Uncaring management and grumpy waitstaff make for a very bad experience. Since no one at our table was willing to eat the disgusting food, I have to say this was a non-dining experience. If you really want a long wait, bad attitude from the staff and the absolutely worst Mexican food in San Antonio, go toTomatillo's. If you want great Mexican, go a few blocks north from Tomatillo's and eat at Picante Grill. That's what we did and we ha d a wonderful meal. The manager at Picante said they had many people coming in and telling them the same story. So, Tomatillo's goes down, Picante Grill takes up the slack, life is good.

Typical Mexican fare for a long-time midrange San Antonio restaurant. Drink prices and specials are generous. Service is superior. I am not a Mexican food fan, but I do appreciate the consistently superior service when we meet here monthly. Karaoke is well attended in the bar. Plenty of parking!

We got name of this restaurant from our hotel after asking for their favorite local restaurant. They were right. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant had plenty of customers yet there were still tables available. Service was quick and courteous. We told our server (Paul) that we were from Georgia and he was nice enough to provide us with complimentary queso dip. We both wanted a margarita, just not a huge one like they serve. The waiter provided us with Happy Hour sized drinks which were quite tasty. My husband had enchiladas and I had a quesadilla. We both enjoyed our meals very much. At the end of our meal, our server said he did not know if we would have had sopapilas in Atlanta, so he provided a dish of them to us. This was a wonderful way to end our meal. The food was great and the service matched it! Paul is definitely an asset to their staff. While this restaurant is not on Riverwalk, it is not too far away if you have a car.

I love this place. Nice atmosphere, very good Beef Fajitas, and love their Chips & Salsa. Love their Margaritas. If you need to go to the restroom, you better be the size of a toddler. That restroom is slightly better than a prison restroom. Lol... But seriously. I recommend this place especially for business meetings or if you are on a casual lunch date. Has a so-so fountain off to the side in the hallway. Throw a penny and make a wish. If you try this place, I hope you enjoy it. Big Henry

Admittedly Friday evening is busy, but we arrived at the restaurant about 7:00 pm, the conclusion of Happy Hour, and the host was on the phone, and clearly conflicted over seating us, or continuing his conversation. At one point, he put the phone down and said that he would get someone to us right away. After a bit more phone conversation, he put the phone down and seated us himself. We sat for a long time before our server arrived to take our drink order. After a very long wait our drinks arrived. Wishing to enjoy our drinks we delayed putting in our food order but requested silverware and napkins. We finally got up and got our own silverware and napkins from another table. When our server reappeared with silverware we asked that our chip basket be replenished and placed our food order. The food order arrived quickly with another server and the chips arrived after that. Unfortunately the food was not that great. Serving size was generous and food was not, but it was pretty bland. We have been to this restaurant before, but not sure we will be returning.

Lived in San Antonio for eight years and returned to check out an old favorite. Six years either made our memories of the food as better than it was or it’s changed cooks to a different flavor. We cherished this place for their fresh salsa and delicious food. The food wasn’t as flavorful and the salsa definitely wasn’t fresh. Food isn’t bad but isn’t great either. For the price, we expected more. Service was good though!

Excellent salsa and I enjoyed that they dressed my cerveza. Food was ok, but nothing to write home about.

Tomatillo's, a Tex-Mex restaurant, is up Broadway, just a few minutes drive from downtown. We have gone there for many years when visiting for professional meetings, and have nearly always been completely satisfied. The main dining room is more pleasant than the "garden room" next to the (full) bar. The menu has many good choices, and they are receptive to adjustments. The wait staff has always been very friendly, capable, and accommodating. The salsa and chips are excellent, and the food is always of high quality and preparation, and at a reasonable price. They make their own tortillas on site. I don't recall ever having to wait more than a moment for a table. This restaurant is, and will continue to be, one of our old standbys. It is a great place for family or friends, and the noise level has always been sympathetic to conversation. I don't recall ever having to endure mariachis, a big plus. We much prefer this to the chaos on the riverwalk. If you have never been here, this one is truly worth a try.

Went there because it was recommended to us. Arrived early for dinner during happy hour, seated quickly. Chips and salsa arrived...the chips were rancid. I inquired about them to our server. She said other customers had complained and her manager said "they had 2 barrels that had to be used up before they would cook any more chips". I should have gotten up and left at that moment!!! Lesson learned. It was hard to look past that information for the rest of the meal. If a manager chooses to serve rancid chips...what else would he pass off for a good mexican dinner. It was a pricey tab to pay for happy hour for two adults and one child. Margaritas were so-so. Dinner was disappointing. Won't go back. There are plenty more mexican food restaurants all around San Antonio that appreciate their customers enough to serve fresh chips!!!

Had a great time for a dear friend celebrating her BIRTHDAY!! Waiter would forget items requested. Food took a little long to get.

We had never been here and we are glad We stumbled into Tomatillos! We found the food to be great!! From the chorizo queso to the enchiladas, the presentation was excellent plus delicious!! Highly recommend coming out to eat here. Mom had the chili rellenos & she highly recommends you try them!

I have eaten at Tomatillo's at least once a month for years and years. Their tortilla soup and fajita tacos are great, in fact, there is a combination plate if you like them both. Their Margaritas and happy hour specials are also excellent. As for the service, it has always been on-point and friendly. If you're looking for a good place for a business lunch or to take the family, Tomatillo's is a great choice.

My fiancé and I stopped in for drinks during happy hour. I had a Mango Mercedes Margarita topped off with X-Rated Liqueur. My fiancé had a Corona Michelada. Both drinks were EXCELLENT! The salsa was fresh and tasty. The service was exceptional. The only reason I'm not giving Tomatillo's a five star rating was the ceviche. While the ceviche was "good" it lacked in presentation and the quality of ingredients. To put it in perspective it was as if you ran across a store bought good ceviche. But definitely we will be returning.

We as a family visited here as a very large group we were immediately seated and drinks were also immediately ordered. The staff were very professional and efficient. Our orders began to come out from the cocina (kitchen) shortly there after. I had the Tomatillo Enchiladas Verdes which were phenomenal. This dish is served with spanish rice and refried beans. The drinks from the bar were flavorful and great to drink. Give Tomatilos a try. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Everything is great, EVERYTHING! If you are a cilantro lover you must try the boracho beans! This is our go-to restaurant for excellent Mexican food!

We were in San Antonio for 4nights and ate here twice. So good. Andrew is a great waiter, he kept us on our toes. Everything we ordered was very good, not a rice eater, so cannot speak to that side dish. Reasonably priced. Very large seating area. It is off the Riverwalk, on Broadway. Very pleasant.

Have to start off by saying that this place was delicious. Service was fast and the staff is incredibly friendly and nice. I will definitely come back!!!

For a big family event like celebrating a college graduation, it was perfect. Atmosphere, food, service, and the willingness to make sure we all fit! :)

Family favorite - easy to take small or large groups for good food. Kids always love watching tortillas being cooked.

A bit run down and the cleanliness of the men's room was questionable. Service was fine and the food not bad but fell short on expectations. Prices are average as is the overall experience. Couldn't recommend that anyone go out of their way to visit this restaurant.

We've been to this restaurant many times over the years, and the quality of food has been consistently good. The freshly made guacamole was excellent, as were the margaritas. My chicken enchiladas were literaly full of chicken, much more than at any other restaurant I've tried. Wait staff was super. My only complaint was being charged for a dinner when I only ordered enchiladas a la carte, and my husband was charged extra for putting onions on top of his enchiladas. Didn't seem quite right to me, but.....

Tomatillo's is a great place farvaway from the touristy soots of San Antonio. Pretty standard menu, but done very well. Great fajitas, queso, and cold beer. Good spot for some good food in a laid back atmosphere.

First time since their move (yes, I've not been around for a while), and very disappointed that neither the new less than comfortable environment, nor the mediocre food, comes anywhere near the previous comfortable atmosphere, or the great food at their former location on Broadway.

With only this being my second visit to Tomatillos, I must say the experience was superb! Our waiter Marc was patient and friendly and tended to our party of 15. All women conversed during my bachelorette preparty dinner and Marc accommodated us and left an amazing impression. On top of that the food was great and fresh. The drinks were strong and aesthetically pleasing as well :) Excited for our next visit. Went during dinner on a Friday night.

This is a must stop and eat for us when we are in San Antonio. Easy to get to from the riverwalk with ample parking this place has great atmosphere and food. Our favorite are the cheese enchiladas, always fresh and hot. They have home made salsas tortillas. Dress is casual but a great place to go for special occasions.

Forget texmex on the river! This place was so much more authentic and tasty. Get there before 7 weekdays (incl Friday) for $4 17 oz margaritas and reduced price appetizers! Ever had cheese and chorizo set on fire at your table? Excellent! I had a combo plate that was delicious, wife had mini fajita tacos that were great. Service was terrific. Must go here!

Love this place. Fresh hand made tortillas; fresh guacamole; large portions. Very clean venue and excellent atmosphere. Listen to Live Mariachi music on the weekends while enjoying a cold margarita!

We visited on vacation and stayed on the river walk. Was referred by a friend who used to live in San Antone. The restaurant is not very far from the river walk by car. Everything was great especially the chicken enchiladas and the tomatillo sauce. Service was okay but I'm alittle spoiled i think. Fresh ingredients, can't tell if its my favorite but pretty darn good.

The food was just average. Service was ok. Personally am just not a fan of beer that is so cold that ice floats in it. There are better options in the area.

Had I found Tomatillo's before my last day, I would have been a repeater. I love traditional, well prepared Mexican so I was well pleased with this find after a couple of failed tries during my stay. On site preparation made with fresh ingredients made this restaurant a stand out for me. The chips were still warm and served with salsa made from off the vine tomatoes and jalapenos chips to give it the zip. The lunch special ($7.50) happpened to be my favorite, cheese enchildas (2) covered with Chile con Carne centered in the tastiest refried beans ever and Mexican rice. The plate was served hot and cheerfully by a thoughtful waitress. I highly recommend Tomatillos for traditional Mexican.

great food, enjoyed the atmosphere, but was alittle put off with drinkk prices... This is a San Antonio classic, just alittle pricey on drinks really.

Wow, who would have thought in San Antonio you could find a gem of a restaurant like Tomatillo's. Great place to eat. We walked right in no lines to wait in. That's great. My family and I were seated immediately. Our waitress Lorena was top notch. We never needed to ask for anything. She kept our glasses filled, and our food came out of the kitchen hot and delicious. We were there with about 25 or 30 people total so that should give you a perspective on the amount of work Lorena had to do by herself. The food is Tx - Mex and it was delicious. I recommend the next time your down San Antonio way you should stop in for lunch or dinner at Tomatillo's. I assure you that you won't regret it.

A lot of people say Mexican food is Mexican food. And to extent that’s true And there’s a lot of good Mexican in San Antonio butI felt like tomatillos did more than most and to provide a customer friendly experience. Mariachi was there the night I was there. Mexican with a local, yet all are welcome feel

There were 9 of us and we had a blast! The staff was great, the environment was fun and the FOOD was GREAT! The fresh tortillas were a little piece of heaven. Would eat here all the time if I lived in San Antonio!

Food was not very good, it tasted canned or frozen. The service was slow and not attentive. I will not return.

Food was excellent. Service was good. Definitely would come again. We had queso, beef tacos, spinach quesadillas, tomatillo enchiladas, and a hamburger!

My first time to Tomatillos in over 15 years. It was honestly not as great as I remembered, but it was still better than average Tex-Mex in a city full of Tex-Mex options. I had a really difficult time deciding between the 3 star and 4 star ratings. Only one in our party of 8 didn't care for her meal; she ordered tamales. The salsa has a nice kick. The (shredded chicken) burrito verde was above average. The margarita was above average, and the nachos were very, very good. Our waiter was friendly but a bit on the slow side, particularly considering the restaurant wasn't too busy at 4:30 in the afternoon. This is a safe place to go for good food and a festive environment.

Good beer at reasonable prices. Great margaritas. I had pork tacos that were very good and my wife ate chicken quesadillas. All was good.

We stopped in late after we arrived in San Antonio. Our waiter was super. I can’t remember his name, but he was very friendly and attentive. We really liked our food. They have lots of nightly events like karaoke and happy hour. We liked that they made their tortillas on site. We enjoyed our meal very much!

The portions were very plentiful. All four of us ate about half of what was served. Of course, we had an appetizer and chips first. The appetizer had 3 small scoops of guacamole, but since there were 4 of us our waitress added an extra at no charge. Very nice atmosphere, attentive service and good food.

Stopped in for dinner and just love this place. I had the enchiladas and they were fantastic. The tortillas, rice and beans are great as well. I loved the atmosphere and the service was really great. I will definitely return.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was very good. The service was excellent. Made for the start of a very enjoyable afternoon.

Absolutely love this place! They never fail us! Jackie our waiter was beyond exceptional! Highly recommend this place for great food & fun atmosphere!

We asked the concierge to recommend a local restaurant for authentic southwestern food. Tomatillo's didn't disappoint. We stayed w/ the fresh guacamole made to order at the table & queso flameado w/ chips. Both were great. Also, try a Lone Star beverage. Excellent.

This is a great place for authentic Tex-Mex. I had the tres colores enchiladas and they were fantastic. The server was attentive and the portions very good. Good value for the money.

Good Mexican food at reasonable prices and close to downtown and the Riverwalk. The enchiladas with the Tomatillo green sauce is the best as is the rice and beans.

This is a pretty restaurant and the wait staff did a good job with 4 little old ladies wanting separate checks. I ordered the tortilla soup, and it barely reached room temperature. All of the other dishes were the same way. The soup was good, but it should be steaming when it reaches the table, and so should the fajitas. I don't know whether the problem is in the kitchen or in the time it takes a dish to reach the table. Except for the food being barely warm, this would be a 4 star review.

I have been dining here for 25+ years, but the last time was at least five or six years ago. In that time the menu has changed, but the tortillas are still made onsite, the bar is still the place to watch the game, and the service and food are just as good. There is plenty of parking out back. They have karaoke on Wed. nights and other happenings. Great margarita menu with a million variations and a daily happy hour. Muy Bueno!

Yesterday was a killer day for me. It seemed as if the day would never end. It began in Austin, TX, on to Seguin, Floresville, Pleasanton, Poteet, Pearsall, Hondo and Uvalde visiting customers; as I headed to San Antonio to do an over night with friends, I thought about what would salvage the day. Well, I stopped on my way back from Uvalde in a small town named Castroville. Slipped into Sammy's Restaurant and ordered up three Coconut Cream Pie slices to go. They are pros at putting this fare together. Oh yeah, back on the road to SA; called Ben and Marsha, friends of mine and said, "How about some great Margarita's and Carne Asada". You already know where they wanted to meet, "Tomatillo's" of course. I arrived about 15 minutes prior to their arrival and started with a fantastic Margarita on the rocks. The waitress was very friendly in a very professional way, she was very attentive as were the the ladies at the Hostess Station. The usual chips and salsa arrived at the table along with really great Tortilla's with butter. Staying true to my nickname I started in on same. Fresh and hot, right out of the tortilla machine which is a good thing to watch while waiting on friends. As Ben and Marsha approached the table, our waitress headed to the bar for two of Tomatillos great Margarita's. After salivating over the menu trying to decide the evenings cuisine; it was unanimous, it would be the Carne assada for Ben and me; Marsha would go for the casadillas. I am very picky when a Mexican Restaurant tries to cover up poor quality meat with marinating sauce. This will never happen at Tomatillo's, why you ask, it is because the chef will not serve poor quality meat, plain and simple. I personally believe that flank steak is some of the best beef on cattle. I am in the agriculture business after all. I loved the way the chef cooked the Carne Assada over open flame only to finish it off with onions and bell peppers cooked to perfection. Marsha said she really enjoyed her meal. I have never written about Tomatillo' Restaurant and felt that after so many visits and seeing a track record of consistency in the quality of the food and drink it was time. I have seen other reviews regarding being charged for additions to food on the menus. I have never received cookies when I order ice cream, get my drift. A hot dog is a hot dog, if you add chilie, now it is a chile dog. Go figure. I too served in the Military as did Ben, but we never asked for the military discount, the quality of the food is on our minds, not the percentage of discount. I think it is great that it is offered to those who have served though. So do yourself and friends a favor, stop in on this landmark Restaurant and be a judge for yourself; was Mr Pig spot on or what when suggesting this fine establishment. I hope to see you there.

We really like the food and we were seated on a busy Saturday night, quickly. However when I ordered a top shelf margarita in the bar they tried to use a premixed mix. I asked the bartender to remake and he gladly did. The next issue was I ordered chicken mole and they served me mole enchiladas. The waitress just looked at me like so what! I said I would take them and she thanked me. No offer to correct my order. Very very disappointing. We have eaten here before and had a better experience

The food was better than usual for Mexican. The salsa was delicious. I cannot handle spicy-hot food, so this was a real winner for me. The oil used for the chips was clean and fresh. Another win. The simple frozen house margarita? Definite win! I ordered spinach enchiladas. I did not care for them, but I didn't want meat either this time. The order came with plenty of food! I avoid Mexican food when I can. I live in San Antonio so if I want to eat anything else when I go out, I seek out non-Mexican places because I know I will end up at Mexican places for many gatherings. This was a non-profit board meeting.

This is a great restaurant. The food is great , the prices are great, the service is great, and ambiance is great, the only down side is the parking lot. I went here for my brithday and for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding party. It was awesome. I can't wait to eat there again this weekend.

We had lunch here. My husband ordered a beef enchilada plate with rice and beans. I eat light so I ordered just a fish taco. Twas good!

You can't go wrong with the tortillas here! And the corn ones are thick, not thin, so they're doubly delicious. The beef tacos and cheese enchiladas are pretty good, too, although I seem to remember them being a lot better (but they're still good). Dos Equis on tap in giant glasses, you can't go wrong. The service was fantastic!

great food--- great puffy tacos!!!!!!!!!!! Best Margaritas in San Antonio. Great place to eat if you are in the Zoo/Breckenridge Park area.

A real mexican food place with atmosphere. Fairly large place but cozy. It has a seperate room for larger parties and a small bar area for a Margarita or cold beer. Food is good Tex-Mex and is served hot and fresh. Several types of Margaritas and mexican beers, not just corona. They were very busy on our visit Friday night but service was still good. we sampled the salsa, guacamole, and chili con queso. All were very good, but a little on the small size. Chips are hot and crisp, no fatty greasy residue as we find in some places. Both of our meals were very tasty and really good. Try one of the mexican beers "dressed". It's served in a large chilled mug with salted rim and a lime. Squeeze the lime in the beer and drink with the salt on the rim. Very delightful. Sometimes there is a wait, but they have several rooms and you get seated quickly. Have a cold beverage at the bar, and ask for chips and salsa. Worth the wait. One of our favorite places for Tex-Mex. We had one beer and two glasses of vino. Two regular meals and an appitizer. The bill for two, plus tip was $52.00

A good experience and the food was okay. A little pricey but not too expensive.

Awesome service and food was delicious. This was our second choice the first place Mexican restraunt was not a good choice.

Went here for lunch with a couple of coworkers. I have been here before about a year ago, it wasnt bad back then. This visit however...different story. The lunch menu is very limited. The prices seemed a bit higher than what I paid last time. The service was much worse. There were only four tables occupied and it still took forever for the three of us at our table. Food was average at best, nothing special. As far as prices go....I would rather go to a different establishment that has better quality of service and food.

Great Tex-Mex menu!!! Moderately priced! Never a long wait!!!! I always dine there everytime I go to SA!!!!

Had lunch at Tomatillo's this weekend. Good food and great service made for a very nice experience. I will be back.

I visited San Antonio for a convention, one of the locals recommended this place. It has a nice atmosphere and salsa is good. However, I ordered chicken soft tacos and what I got (literally, no exaggaration) is a soaking wet tortilla filled with tasteless shredded chicken topped with a few bits of tomato and lettuce. Took one bite and chicken juice started pouring down my wrist. I was amazed that they would actually serve something like that and decided not to eat there. Maybe some folks have had a quality dining experience, but it just seems like the food there is hyped up and mediocre at best. The River Walk has way better restaurants

There are several reviews that indicate this is a downtown restaurant. It is nowhere near the Riverwalk or Downtown. It is a 5 to 10 minute drive up Broadway from Downtown and you will need a car or Uber to get here from a downtown hotel. We love to go to Tomatillo’s on Monday evening for the $15 Fajita dinner for 2. You can make it mixed Beef and Chicken and they serve sides of Rice and Beans plus all the fixings for making your tacos with fresh made in house tortillas. On top of the discount Monday dinner the Margaritas are on special Mondays for 4 bucks each. This place is good anytime but Monday’s are special. They also have killer Queso that we always ask for as a starter and they will make a special Guacamole dish at the table as a special order, which is well worthwhile.

Of the Mexican restaurants we have tried so far in San Antonio, Tomatillos is our favorite. The atmosphere is only average but the food is way above average. From the chips and salsa to the entrees to the fried ice cream, everything is just wonderful. The restaurant faces a busy highway but there is plenty of free parking and an entrance directly behind the restaurant. When visiting San Antonio, be sure to give this place a try—you will be glad you did.

They say times are tough so a dollar charge for second small basket of chips. Times will get tougher when you treat customers that way. 😏

The atmosphere and margaritas were great and the food was awesome also! Servers were always making sure you were taken care of and prices were comparable

The server was friendly, and tried being helpful with his entree suggestions, but, his recommendation fell flat!!! My husband ordered the waiters recommendation, sour cream enchiladas and I ordered traditional cheese enchiladas. Well, the cheese enchiladas were the WORST enchiladas EVER! And the sour cream enchiladas were nothing to brag about... My opinion, the corn tortilla was tough, barely any sauce over the enchiladas and the cheese was rubbery!!! Don't be fooled by the guy on the other side of the glass making flour tortillas, these are one of the worst flour tortillas I've ever tasted, very thin and they began to stiffen as the tortilla got cold. Yuk! The margarita I ordered was bland and the mug weighed about 3 lbs! I will NOT return and if anyone reads my review don't waste your time and money here. Go to a good Mexican restaurant, like Los Barrios on Blanco Road!!! Or Paloma Blanca on Broadway! Peace and Blessings!

We went here for Sunday Brunch. They must have 20 different flavors of margaritas to choose from. I recommend the Raspberry. The food is pretty good too. I had the tortilla soup which was better than most. The queso was pretty good too. The waitstaff was friendly and timely. This is a pretty good restaurant to try.

Went to Tomatillo's recently but was disappointed at the changes. They no longer have the Combo Tres, what???? The food was ok, but not tasty like before. The atmosphere is great though, but the food is pricey. The Chile Con Carne for the enchiladas recipe changed. Sad to know, they don't have the original owners.

My wife and I on vacation decided to visit Tomatillos after for a late lunch / happy hour / early dinner after visiting the San Antonio Zoo. Zoo is a few miles away. We arrived around 2:30pm, only to find their happy hour started at 3pm. There wasn't a lot of people there which was fine for us considering we just wanted to eat and have a few drinks. I asked the waiter since we were early if he could give us the happy hour price to start considering we would probably be there for awhile... Unfortunately for us, he said he couldn't do it for the happy hour drinks, but could do it for food. That was fine for us... especially since we walked in, there was a sign in the bar area that said Modelo 16oz cans for $2.00. Win for me! My wife wanted something else. So, we ended up snacking on quesadillas and flautas. When 3pm came, the price of the drinks dropped about $1-$2, so not much of a difference. Anyway, the food and drinks were good. My only two (small) complaints were on the tortillas and amount of fajita meat in the quesadillas. Tortillas didn't taste homemade considering there was a flattop grill 5 feet away from us.. and they chop the meat so fine, that you don't really get to chew on the meat. The chicken flautas were really good. So, my suggestion to the owners / managers would be to give your customer more filling, but also check the tortillas for freshness. Would I go back... yes. We had a good time and would give the place another chance.

Just below Alamo Heights, across from Brackenridge Park and almost within walking distance of Trinity University is the best Mexican restaurant on Broadway. The fajitas sizzle, I love the tamales which are good and big and they have a nachos basket that comes topped with everything that is the perfect accompaniment to excellent margaritas. The best part is that you can feed your family and the various and sundry classmates that they drag along without facing bankruptcy. Once the kids have departed there are informal salsa lessons to be enjoyed on the weekends and we have even used their banquet facilities for parties with wonderful results. Avoid the crush of the Riverwalk while still enjoying the best of San Antonio.

I live in a state where Tex Mex is the name of the game. I travel a lot so I consider myself somewhat of a Mexican Food expert. Tomatillo's is one restaurant that I always try to get too when in San Antonio. When I have business colleagues or relatives I know they will want to go to the River Walk and the Alamo. After perusing the sights, I talk the visitors into being patient and wait to eat away from the River Walk. You get good food on the River Walk, but I prefer to be away from the noise and hustle and bustle of that location. Once we arrive at Tomatillo's Restaurant, folks get a smile on their faces due to the nice atmosphere and what? Yes, the aroma coming from the kitchen. The food is great, my favorite is the Carne Assad a platter but you better be hungry. I love this restaurant and my friends love the drinks. I seem to always be the designated driver due to the fact that I am driving. I gotta work on that. I tried to add a photo, but go to the website listed below and look at the table next to the booth on the left, yep, that is my favorite nesting location in Tomatillos. One more thing, their tortillas are to kill for. Little, no a lot of butter; (worry about the belly later), salsa and quarter fold and eat up. Oh man, salivation central. Now I am hungry and need to stop this before I have the late night snack. My recommendation, get there now, not later, now and enjoy a fantastic meal. I will return soon. Oh, by the way, I rated the bar scene a three, I very seldom drink, so what would I know about a bar scene.

Love the daily specials, police/fire fighter discount (20%), and fresh tortillas. There is ample seating which can definitely be an issue when eating lunch on Broadway on a weekday. There are several offset rooms to conduct business / office meetings if desired, just coordinate with manager to have dedicated wait staff.

We had a late dinner here. The food was delicious Mexican cuisine. Our waiter was efficient in attending to our needs. Reasonably priced also.

My doughtier applied for a job position and spoke with the assistant manager who happens to be the GM's younger brother. After filling up an application he tells her that shes hired and that she need to present her self the following day in uniform which she needs to buy. later that afternoon he messages her to "hang out and chill " she declines his offer. The following day when she goes to work shes told by the GM that shes not hired, and goes on to apologizing for his brother behavior and asked her not to make a complain for it has happen before. This type of harassment and advantageous behavior is unacceptable in my community, and therefor have this complain up to the Alamo Height P.D. and the BBB. i ask for others to come forward and put an end to that.

I have walked past this restaurant a million times and finally walked in. The salsa is amazing even thou they only give you small portions at a time, unless you beg. Visited twice in one week and had avocado enchilada plate with beans (one of a few that can be made vegan), they were very good. Both nights the service was good, one night actually excellent. If you like it quiet don't go on a weekend but Monday night was great. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals.

My family and I had just arrived into town after driving for almost 6 hours figured we would try it out...YUCK! The service was very slow and a little unprofessional. We all ordered something different (that's 6 different dishes) and each every single one of them was disgusting. How do you mess up bean and cheese nachos? How in the world can a server return to their table to find that each person's plate is still full and not ask if something was wrong or simply ask if we even like the food? Nothing. Not one inquiry. I felt so bad for my daughters and my nephew because neither one of them could eat their meals due to the terrible flavors and textures. I come to this city often to visit and I was very disappointed.

This restaurant has a good variety of Tex Mex food. The Chicken Enchiladas with Tomatillo Sauce are delicious. The service is good and the atmosphere is friendly. I would recommend it.

Tomatillo's is still one of the best Tex Mex restuarants in Texas. I drive 3 hours to get there and my mouth waters more the closer I get. The service is excellent, the food tastes great and the prices are not that bad. Any time I am close to San Antonio, I always scedule a stop at Tomatillo's.

This restaurant has become my family's favorite. Anytime we are all together and we ask everyone where they want to go eat, it's a unanimous vote for Tomatillos. It is great Mexican food regardless of what you get. My favorite is the Enchilladas Verdes, but everyone has their favorite. They also have just about any Margarita that you want, and they are ALL delicious. The service is always excellent. The waiter even brought out a dessert for my husband to share with all of us (on the house) on Father's Day! Oh...and they make the homemade tortillas right there!

Great food at reasonable prices. Good service too. This is a great place to meet friends for lunch. Fajitas are good here.

This place offers good dinner specials and has a good menu selection. The food is served hot and the wait staff is friendly. The best thing are the Marguerita.

This restaurant serves up typical Tex Mex fare. I have had the fajitas and quesadillas. The fajitas were quite good. The quesadillas were ok. I would order something else. I could drink the fresh tasting tomato salsa. Yum! The flour tortillas are fluffy and perfectly doughy. The margaritas are huge! I had a margarita with chambord. it was very refreshing for a warm summer day.

It's in the middle of Alamo Heights but worth the time to get there. The Tampico plate beef steak was cooked to my taste and tender. Enjoyed every bite and there was enough to take home. My wife had one of the Tomatillos Enchiladas Verde and loved it. We didn't have one that day, but the margaritas with the beer inverted in them looked delicious and ice cold. We're going back this weekend to try out the margaritas and some of the other plates. ENJOY

The food is fantastic!!! There are so many items to choose from - but, what makes this restaurant special is the margarita variety. You can get jalapeno, grapefruit, various fruits, and some killer combo margaritas. The beer selection is pretty spectacular too. Prices are amazingly affordable.

I called and reserved a spot for 15 people to celebrate my mom's 75th Birthday. They had tables and 2 waitstaff ready and waiting when we arrived. We stayed 2 hours and had a blast. Casual atmosphere, so our loud laughter did not disrupt anybody else. We went on a Wednesday night and they weren't crowded. Another large party there on the same night. The food was filling and everyone got plenty. Nice place for a casual party. Our wait staff was always attentive.

My family and I went to celebrate my husband’s bday . I ordered mole enchiladas and they were delicious!! The waitress was available always and performed her job well!! I will definitely go again!

There is a reason why this restaurant has been a favorite for decades. It does everything right. It has many large parties, and a considerable capacity, especially with the lovely glassed-in dining room in the rear of the building towards the ample parking lot. The chips were crispy. A man made tortillas inside a glass enclosure in view of diners. The decor is warm, with banners hanging down and murals on the walls. San Antonio has many many Mexican restaurants. The competition is fierce. This is clearly a case of the cream rising to the top. The food and service were every bit as good as our favorite Mexican restaurant in town, but Tomatillo lacks an outdoor patio or a view, which elevates some of its competition to five stars. Still, this is a great restaurant and is sure to be one which we will visit on Sundays when we are downtown.

Nothing to write home about but a lot of other people seem to like it! I think there are other places with better mexican food.

We went on a Sunday afternoon, it wasn't busy at all. All of the servers, except for one ( a female), seemed to have been hungover & not wanting to be at work at all. The food was cold, orders were wrong, and I had to call someone over to even take our order. I complaine to the female waitress, she apologized, and I expected a manager to come over. Nothing!!! We will never go back. Pericos & Salsalitos are so much better ( both on Bandera Rd.)

The food is authentic mexican food. Huge assortment of amazing margaritas very happy and friendly atmosphere...

The food is good! Drinks are even better! They have all you can eat cheese enchiladas for only $12 on tues and wed! You can't beat that! Try this place out!!

The restaurant offers a military discount, which is awesome. The food is ok and the atmosphere is loud. I only eat here for the discount.

Tomatillos just to the South of Alamo Heights is the place to go for authentic Tex-Mex. I particularly enjoy the fajitas. The chips and salsa are great as well. The prices are fairly reasonable as well, and a bit cheaper than the Alamo Heights restaurants to the North. Highly recommend if you like Tex-Mex.

Ate here 2 years ago and we were underwhelmed. So last Monday, we were visiting my brother and his wife here in San Antonio, and we were hungry. When they suggested Tomatillos again, we almost declined. We would have been wrong. The Carne Guisada was delicious. So were the Chicken Sour Cream Enchiladas. The menu is huge, so even the most finicky person should find something to eat. With hundreds, possibly thousands of Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, do I think it's the best? NO. BUT, it was good.

A friend from Houston told me about Tomatillos. He said the food service and atmosphere are worth making the effort to find it. Thanks to a good GPS we found it not far from our hotel near the airport. He was correct in everyway! Good size portions as well!

Went for supper. Although it was crowded, we we seated quickly. The waiter was friendly and courteous. The service was excellent. We got our food pretty fast. The price was reasonable.

$15 Fajita dinner for 2, plus $4 Margaritas on Mondays is a killer deal! This visit in particular Matt went above and beyond anyone has ever gone to make sure our dinner was perfect. Hope mgmt reads this and recognizes this strong member of their team.

The food has always been good here and the service is always fast. I've never had to wait though we usually eat on Thursdays evenings. They have a large selection of Margaritas available.

We have been eating here since my daughter was a toddler. She has now finished her first year of college! We originally used this as a place to meet with other parents when going on play-dates downtown. Now we visit as a family every time we go to the Half Price Bookstore...just walk across the street and wallah! Food is always good and the freshly made tortillas are yummy. Portions are big so consider sharing. If not sharing, you'll likely have a to go bag. Tomatillo's makes a nice tomatillo sauce...go figure, but there is so much more to explore. Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. I haven't tried everything yet, but give me time.

I have been to Tomatillos years ago and this time they slid down two stars. Even though been spoiled living in a foodie city I know what to expect in San Antonio when I visit. My great-grandmother made the best Mexican food but still not found a compliment here where lived and grew up for my first 24 years of my life. Some came close like this place did but not anymore. To be known this restaurant during my visit was face mask required, had a musky smell, a bit dirty, slow service and tiny restrooms. Typical for many restaurants in SA. Occasionally I find unique items in the men’s restroom and on this day it was Mexican gorilla glue. Not sure used for but it was odd and weird. My frozen margarita was huge and tasted ok, but not the best. My chicken tacos was average and the chicken in one taco was way over salted and not edible. Luck the other two filled me up and the rice & beans were ok as well. On positives it has plenty of parking, large flavored margarita selection, large food menu, two big rooms for parties, and a small bar. A lady came by our table to take our photo and afterwards when leaving printed a few out and tried to sell us some at $15 a pop. Usually the server takes a photo with my phone but guess not allowed here. I can go on with more negatives but basically SA has a Mexican restaurant on every corner and I’m sure another person will give this place another try, but I am moving on.

After attending a downtown meeting last week my spouse and I decided to have a late lunch of Mexican food and remembered an ole favorite in Tomatillo's. Got there shortly after 3:00PM as they were transitioning to the dinner menue. We almost had the place to ourselves but the staff was very attentive, gave us great seating, wonderful service, and food as we remembered! No dissapointments in anything at Tomatillo's.

Went for lunch with some friends. A large restaurant and bar, with plenty of parking, so we were seated quickly. I honestly can’t remember what I ordered, some combo meal, enchiladas with rice and beans. It was OK. But like some other negative reviews I thought the food was only warm at best. One of those situations where we were limited on time, not wanting to send it back to be reheated. Our server was reasonably attentive and friendly. Overall, no one was complaining but no one was openly pleased with their meal. Lots of good Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. This was always considered among the best. Ownership changed in 2011, so maybe they aren’t quite up to previous standards of food and service.

I selected this restaurant based on TripAdvisor reviews and the proximity to our meeting location. I was not disappointed. We were a party of 10 including 3 kids and an elder in a wheelchair. The restaurant easily accommodated us. The facility and decor are typical of any of the older Mexican restaurants in San Antonio with lots of flags and twinkling lights. The location is outside the tourist area but seems to be in a neighborhood of new growth and improvement. The place is comfortable and inviting. Our server was somewhat slow but he was pleasant and accurate. Other staff stepped in to assist him when needed so we were not left without service. The food was very good. All the items were fresh. The salsa was especially tasty as was the tortilla soup. The carne asada was expecially good too. The prices were reasonable and they gladly split our checks. There was no automatic gratuity for a large party and I especially appreciated that fact. The only negative we noticed was the bathroom. It had a very bad smell; in large part because of the strong disinfectant. That being said, it seemed to be clean. I would probably visit Tomatillo's again if we are in the area. It was good food for a reasonable price.

Selena was our waitress and wonderful!! I'm a vegetarian and she accommodated my needs and my family's. we were very pleased!!

Any time we're downtown, we have to go to Tomatillo's! We've been eating there for years and we've never had anything that was less than excellent! The margaritas are wonderful, the atmosphere is authentic, and the wait staff are friendly and accommodating!!

With all the Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, it's hard to find a place that has great food and great service at a reasonable price, but Tomatillo's has it all. Be sure to try the nachos. The beef fajitas are some of the best I have ever had.

This restaurant has one of the best happy hours around for margaritas. They have a vast selection of margaritas and their house margarita is not too shabby either. The food is fresh tasting and their free chips and salsa are never ending.

I just ate here a few days ago and had the sour cream chicken enchilada plate... I honestly don't know how I managed to finish it b/c there was so much meat in the enchiladas that it turned out to be a ton of food. I have eaten here for easily 20 plus years and each dish I have tried is always good. I noticed on my last visit that they are now serving salsa with the chips instead of pico de gallo but it still tasted just as a good as always. I live on the Northwest side of town but will trek all the way down to Broadway to go here.

Best tex mex Restraunt in San Antonio. The service was great and the food was even better. So much variety and the Margaritas are the Best.

This is a nice restaurant. The food and prices are great. Plenty of parking. The wait staff is very attentive.

A San Antonio staple and they charge you extra for chips! Shame.... This long time tradition of Mexican Dining is now charging $1 for a second basket of chips

Enjoyed a Sunday lunch here with enchiladas plate and margaritas. The margaritas were great and on Sunday happy hour prices of $4 each. The cheese, chicken and beef enchiladas plate was good with rice and beans. Definitely will come again!

We were greeted and our drink order taken quickly. Drinks served, food order taken, food served in a very reasonable amount of time. Waiter attentive, smiling, friendly. Food good.

When we arrived, the restaurant was packed, so we decided to sit at the bar. The counter was dirty which we asked the bartender to clean. After a minimal wipe off, we ordered our entrees, two cheese enchilada plates (kid size), guacamole, queso & chips, from the bartender. Our dishes were served in less than 5 minutes, which was odd. Were we in a fast food joint? The tepid temperature of the food, along with the speedy delivery, made us concerned that the plates had been pre-made and kept on a warmer. Nonetheless, being starved, we ate the food, which we rate NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. To make matters worse, the queso NEVER arrived, and after a reminder request that went ignored, we paid our bill and left. Normally tippers of at least 20%, the only tip we have for Tomatillo is: Don't forget the quality in food and service that made you a good restaurant and return to it before people realize that the queso at Taco Cabana is GREAT!

This is one of my wives favorite places. Top notch Tex Mex food. Great bar, great atmosphere

After wrapping up the days photo session in a nearby venue we dropped in this place as it was one of the best recommended restaurants in this particular area. There was plenty of parking and the main access appeared to be in through the backside of the place. Getting seating was a snap as this place seemed to have plenty of it despite a pretty good crowd. I discovered there were actually two sets of bathrooms in this place each on either side of it. The chips and salsa were outstanding and they even had a version of salsa that was actually spicy, not pretend spicy. The menu had a wonderful selection of items to include vegetarian selections. I had the spinach enchiladas and the ceviche de tomatillo. Both items were pretty good. The prices were not bad. I did not leave hungry as they included some sides with the meal as well. The wait staff was super friendly and expedient. I would certainly consider a return visit if I was in the area.

We have only been once, but enjoyed a variety of good enchiladas and all three of us made the dishwasher's job easy by cleaning our plates. Good fresh tasting salsa & chips. Had the tomatillo chicken enchiladas ( actually thought I had ordered the Tomatillo Combo Plate with a puffy chicken taco, but misunderstood our waitress when she repeated my order to confirm. But was very happy with the enchiladas verdes when they arrived). Nice tangy tomatillo sauce - lived up to the name. We also had Guacamole Enchiladas with charro beans - very nicely prepared with cool avocado filling wrapped in warm tortilla with a very tasty "Acapulco Sauce" of tomato, poblano, & onion - a bit sweet but nicely balanced. My daughter had the La Bandera Plate - three chicken enchiladas with different sauces - one queso, one sour cream, one tomatillo. Previously unfamiliar with a flag of yellow, white & green but the flavors were all good. (I think they do have another enchilada combo with red, white & green sauces called La Mexicana). Friendly service and pretty reasonable prices. Will probably try again, but there are LOTS of Tex Mex restaurants in San Antone !

We had dinner here upon a recommendation and were not disappointed. Out server, Eric, went out of his way to do many extra things. Had the chicken enchiladas mole and it was very good. This is a family restaurant run by a family who cares, not some rubber stamp Tex-Mex tourist trap. I may not be a native Antonioian but I know good food. This is a gem.

18 years ago the wife and I had an amazing meal here. I relived the glory Friday while back in town. I will return every time I come back to San Antonio.

The food used to be great here. They made a wonderful guacamole table side with a tequila shot infused (don't knock it, it was delicious!) but not any more. In fact, the whole menu is different and not an improvement. I assume it's under different management because the food is bland and doesn't have that homemade taste like it used to. We stopped gong here because the food isn't so good any more.

We have been Herr many times & always enjoyed it! NO MORE! We stopped for a late lunch the week between Christmas & New Years. The restaurant was not particularly busy - guess that should have been our first warning. No water, no server,no nothing for about 10 minutes. Normally we might have just left but given we'd always has a pleasant experience in the past, I went to speak to the manager. No mention of being short staffed or any other issues, just a comment that he'd make sure we were taken care of. We soon got water & orders taken. Well that's about where service ended. No one came by, no explanations. After being there 45 minutes, we were served COLD food. Again spoke with the manager and he solely stated that our food had just completed being made and therefore couldn't be cold. Needless to say at that point we left. We went up the toad a fee blocks and had fast friendly service & HOT food. We will never be back & will tell all our friends to skip it! Not sure what happened to this place but it's no longer worth the time or aggravation.

Looking for tasty Mexican cuisine in San Antonio is never a problem, but this find on Broadway is one where locals gather and tourists should search out. From jumbo chimichangas to grilled salmon, and large drinks, Tomatillo's is good eats.

We wanted a nice place for dinner that served Mexican food and that would also have a neat authentic look. The food was on point. The waitress was incredibly helpful.

Visited in the afternoon so not too many customers. Good service, very good flavors. A little slow on service and not too much ambiance.

Loved the food! And tried Agua Frescas! The melon flavor was delish! Our waiter was attentive, and gave our Grandbaby a balloon!

This restaurant has a long history, but it didn’t measure up to expectations. The food was average-absolutely nothing special. The Margaritas were good however. Service was ok.

Went to Tomatillo's on a Sunday afternoon. When we arrived, we waited to be greeted for a while (as did a couple of couples in front of us). We were finally seated and then waited probably 10 minutes for the server to drop off chips and salsa and take our drink order. That took some time, too. Then a long wait for our food to be served. The food was fine, but I would say nothing special, really. As you can probably guess, there are far better Mexican places in San Antonio. Surprising to say, but the food was actually kind of bland. Overall, not a good experience. Not terrible, but not an experience that would make me recommend Tomatillo's to someone. You can do better.

Great restaurant to get Mexican food for lunch or dinner near Brackenridge Park. Our meals were very tasty! Even our vegan found something to eat (vegetarian beans, rice).

The food and ambiance was very delightful, only downfall the bathrooms were not kept up. I was a bit disappointed.

In an unassuming strip mall on the 1604 loop is this great Mexican restaurant. Very attentive and prompt service, immediate and refillable chips and salsa, and authentic, delicious food.

We went at the end of an evening after a barge ride on the river. We had gotten a little chilled and soup hit the spot. The restaurant was getting ready to close but never rushed us and we enjoyed it very much.

We were invited to dinner here by a former resident. About 15 minutes from the city center we would have never found this gem without being invited. The service and food are great and the price is reasonble. Great place for a night out with friends.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy! It's been years, since we've eaten here, surprisingly, the food still has that great 'Kick' (taste). We joined our friends/family who were visiting from Oklahoma, for 'after-church-dinner' and we were very pleased with the food. Several in our party, had lots of good compliments, regarding, the taste of the food. I had the combination plate, Beef (Ground Beef) Enchiladas & Beef (GB) Taco, Rice and Beans. The Barracho Beans tasted like they were cooked with Beer, so I really did not like the taste, however, the Refried Beans were jamming; small portions for the sides, so you have to fill up on the wonderful 'Chips & Salsa". Polite & friendly Staff; clean bathroom(s); warm and friendly atmosphere; not too stuffy/warm; not too crowded. A bit pricey, though! Yes, I'm ready to go back!

I've been going to this place for 25 years, practically since it opened. I have always liked Tomatillo's but haven't been there in awhile. On a trip to SA last weekend we decided to give it a shot for the first time in about two years. The Tex Mex is still as good as ever. I had my old favorite, the Tres Enchiladsa plate with a Beef, Chicken and Guacamole Enchilada. My wife had the Chicken Enchilada's. Needless to say we were both full when we left. Just like the old days a good meal for a decent price. The service was very good although the restaurant was not very crowded when we were there. Tomatillo's we will be back as soon as we get another chance.
Horrible stay away
First of all it took 30 minutes to get water. 1/2 of my table received dinner and the other half did not. We sat here for two hours and never got food! One of the ladies has a good allergy and they brought her what she is allergic to and not the modified version. I went to leave after talking to the server and manager, and they charged me for a 2.00 beer I never drank because they lacked the competence to take and order and drop off food. They did not even attempt to rectify the situation and presented as though they could careless. This was the absolute worst experience in San Antonio and I cannot wait to give my money to a place that is actually competent like 54th street. What a complete waste of essentially 3 hours by the time I drive to another location and purchase dinner. Disgusting attitudes by staff, horrendous service, lacking in competency and nearly sent a guest into xanaphalitic shock. Stay away. Unless you enjoy being treated poorly and not actually eating, if you’re looking for that then stop by here. Can’t comment on the food as we never ate here.
