Best Nigiri sushi in Austin!

By Scott S |

We don't eat rolls, so this review is definitely not for those who eat them. We love fresh fish and Tomo definitely has the best variety in town. We love eating everything we can from a board they have showing what they have for the day. We love the oils and sauces they use to dress the fish. Their fresh wasabi is hands down the best in town. We usually don't care much about "the ambiance" or the wait staff, but we love them all! Everyone is always so friendly, they make us feel special. Everytime we have a sushi crave, is definitely worth the drive to north Austin.

Best (affordable) sushi in North Austin

By LenaLaws1 |

My husband and I moved to Atx in Oct 2013 and have been searching for good sushi since! Obviously Uchi and Uchi Co have amazing dishes, but we were looking for a place that didn't need a personal loan application with every meal, especially since we like to enjoy sushi often. Well we've finally found what we were looking for at Tomo. Great sushi, intimate atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonable prices and the best edumame either of us has ever had! (It's made from fresh soy beans, not previously frozen... we highly recommend it). Yep, for us, Tomo is the all around package deal :)

Seriously fresh and delicious

By JoshAlmighty |

This place is a constant reminder of what sushi should be. It's very fresh and innovative while also respecting the traditional ways. Tomo's is my favorite sushi in Austin!

Outstanding quality and selection

By Doc L |

While it's not cheap, none of the good sushi places are. This one is no exception. I haven't had anything I didn't consider to be excellent. Unlike some other local/neighborhood places, I'd say this one is worth traveling to from other neighborhoods.

It’s Decent

By AWattsTX |

It’s been a while since I’ve been here and I remember the food being much better. Also didn’t care to be cramped between two small tables when there was plenty of open seating available. Wait staff was helpful and cordial. While the food is decent, there are so many other stellar Japanese restaurants in Austin that one could choose of quality and comfort ability outweigh convenience.

Amazing sushi!

By Toastymel |

I've been here several times. The place is small but don't even think about going without calling ahead to see the wait time. It's always packed!! Sometimes I have to settle for lesser sushi because the wait is so long. If you have time, ITS WORTH THE WAIT. **Hint...go during odd hours during the day** Spicy edemame- 5 stars!! Awesome touch of flavor! Drink up that water!! 007 -- 4 stars! 4 play - 5 stars!!!! It literally is like foreplay going on in you mouth!!! Dancing dragon - 3.5 stars :) Tempura II - 3 stars (not a huge fan of tempura rills) Mexican - 5 stars (just don't order with 4play .. they try to outdo eachother Volcano - 1 star ( I don't like mayo) but make sure you keep your hair clear of this hot dish!!! Dragon - 3 stars ( I liked it but I have my fab in another state)

Good sushi & service

By Marco |

A family gathering wanted sushi so we found this place and were pleased with it. Small restaurant so the wait times could be high at peak hours but we timed it just right by going early on a weeknight instead of prime time weekend.

Seriously the best in Austin

By JoshAlmighty |

Yes I said it. This place is amazing. It's incredibly fresh, has many signature rolls to choose from. Even has quail-egg-shooters. Yes, quail-egg-shooters. Never had one? Try it. It will become your tradition as it is mine. I've tried probably 90% of the sushi menu and I have loved every tasty bite. The service is top notch. Everyone is hygienically correct. The bathrooms are very well kept. I can't say it enough. This place is the best in Austin.

Lowering standards?

By KeyConcierge |

Its been a few months since I've been back to Tomo. It has always been a favorite because of the freshness of the seafood, delightful dishes and in spite of the fact that the service is less than impressive. To our surprise, this time it did not even get half full while there are typically people waiting at the door for Tomo to open for lunch. I was puzzled that the service was beyond slow because the place was not at all busy and the portions were quite smaller. I am concerned that Tomo will no longer be the best in my area. Tomo, take notice, you seem to be loosing clientele...

Perfect neighborhood sushi restaurant

By TravelingSilvers |

The sushi was delicious, fresh and creative. We were on vacation exploring Austin and we felt like we found a local gem! The service was good as well. It was a great experience.

If I collected frequent flyer miles I would be a world traveler- I'm addicted😊

By shmtw2 |

I have to make a confession. I have become addicted to Tomo off Parmer Lane in Austin. I have no history of being a sushi fan however the incredible Cherry Blossom is something so delicious that I have found myself there any time I am in the vicinity and on more than one occasion have driven into the area just to eat there and often!!! The sushi is extremely fresh, the ambiance very caring and the patience exhibited by the sushi Masters in terms of explaining and helping a novice learn what I will enjoy I have never experienced anywhere else. My daughter who is a sushi expert and some of my business peers have been shocked (in the best way)by the quantity and the quality of their many offerings. Their lunch sushi and sashimi specials rock. While I couldn't move past the Cherry Blossom for over a year I am now enjoying other rolls recommended by Chad, George, Goose, Lee and Steve. I have never been disappointed. The customer service exhibited by the wait staff, Danielle , Suzanne , Tina, Tommy and Yoko and frankly everyone is beyond reproach. They are all exceptional and owners Steve and Tina(who are onsite working more often than not) won't put up with anything less.

Excellent quality, Master sushi chef

By st09734 |

Tomo reminds me of the best Japanese restaurants from Tokyo. The owner and master sushi chef is so passionate about his creation for each customer, his attention to details is extraordinary. Be prepared to be surprised by his daily preparation.

Best sushi in Austin. Period.

By DMulan |

My absolute favorite sushi place in Austin. Beautiful, melt in your mouth, flavourful sushi. The fresh wasabi here is the best I've had. Thursdays and Fridays for the best cuts. The fine dining aficionados might say that uchi or uchiko might deserve that honor, but if you're like me and need a good sushi fix pretty often, this place is definitely the way to go!

Over priced for mediocre...

By Nick Q |

Over priced for mediocre sushi. Good music playing on the ipod in that place, but decent sushi for 14 dollars a roll, I laugh at you.

Good sushi find on a weeknight after 9!

By LDL |

In NW Austin, finding a restaurant after 9 at night isn't easy (minus the 24-hour spots) -- most places close promptly at 10pm. I hate being that last late patron coming in shortly before close, so we checked before going in -- the staff at Tomodachi were nice and accommodating. When it comes to sushi, I enjoy being a bit more adventurous, even if some of the ingredients are unusual. So we tried 2 of their makis (Naked in the Bathroom and Volcano rolls) and a sushi (spicy salmon/sake roll). I know more about judging wine than I do sushi, but this was some good stuff! Naked in the Bathroom was a nice, healthy, cold roll wrapped with cucumber and topped with fresh wasabi -- very complementary flavors. The hot, more filling Volcano roll was also very unique at the complete other end of the spectrum -- with all kinds of amazing flavors, melty goodness (that'd be the cream cheese), melded with crispy cucumber and wrapped in fresh cooked salmon. I'd never had a hot roll, so this was a neat experience. After both those, while the spicy salmon (it was done well) was a good, simple roll, it just did not compare. Overall, a darn good meal!

Best sushi lunch

By Lknm5107 |

The absolute best place in Austin to get sushi for lunch, top notch quality that rivals the fish quality at places like Uchi and Uchiko, for half the price. Great lunch specials.

Could be better...

By Traveller20203 |

Went to Tomo sushi on Parmer for lunch recently with friends. The lady working the front was very flustered, it looked like a hectic time for her. It would have been nice to get a warm welcome. Once we were seated, I ordered the salmon bento. To my surprise, the salmon was fried. Normally salmon bento is grilled and comes with a sweet sauce. I was kind of suspicious wondering why the fish was fried. Was it about to go bad? It was almost all bone, hardly any meat at all. The rest of the bento was nice, a good amount of vegetable tempura, a basic sushi roll, salad, wasabi and ginger. The salmon itself was not good, but the rest of the bento was adequate. The chefs wear shirts that say "Sushi, sex, sleep...repeat." I see the humor but I would rather that the restaurant priorities are just quality and service. The restaurant itself is quite congested, the space is small. It would be nice to have more space to move around. The art on the wall is ugly, what does this eyesore have to do with sushi? To be fair, I have been here a few times for dinner and had good food. The place always seems to be busy, and is small, so be prepared for a wait.

OMG MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE

By Rik S |

Came in for a quick lunch with my sister and just fell in love with this place! I cant wait to come back and try something else ! Really great staff my drink never got empty! I love LOVE being able to talk to the Chefs and ask what’s the best they think! Really great job here!! Thank you guys you rock!!

Tucked away restaurant serving some amazing sushi

By firangi2016 |

Consistently great sushi and sashimi. Price point is similar to other top end sushi places in Austin. I have eaten here a dozen times and it continues to be a good experience.

Excellent Lunch

By B G |

After a friends recommendation, stopped by for a salmon bento box, which had a nice, tasty selection of foods for $9.95. Definitely a price performer... will return for more tasty Japanese food!

Uchi is the best at cuisine as art, but Tomo is the best Sushi in Austin.

By onlandorbysea |

I've eaten at Tomodachi, aka Tomo, at least a dozen times. It's is consistently great. Tonight we had a Thai Tuna Special which was off the cuff. A few weeks ago that had some sort of sashimi ceviche which was also amazing. They seem to combine flavors and textures endlessly inventive ways. As for the rolls, my favorites are 007 and the Crunch but the Ex-Girlfriend and Steve's Special are excellent as well. Food is pricey but competitive for similar quality (dinner for four with drinks for about $180), They have a Sushi bar but I've always sat at a table or booth. Tomo is often busy during prime time -- you can usually get in but if you hit it a prime time you may have to wait a bit. Don't let the strip center in suburbia scare you off -- this place has the best Sushi in Austin bar none.

The Best Rolls In Austin

By TexasToInternational |

I'm kind of a regular here. I love the rolls. Best selection and the best names I've seen in any Sushi restaurant. My favorite roll is the Miller Roll. I also like the fact that they open at 11:31. It really makes you remember. Most days if you are there past 11:45 you will not get a table for lunch. It's the Sushi Bar only. I can't say enough good things about the food and the service. My favorite Sushi place. Period.

Outstanding Sushi!

By JN-FoodieForever |

Woohoo! We finally got to sit inside and eat at the sushi bar. We had several wonderful take out meals during the shutdown, all were very good. We even sat inside for dinner last week, also very good. But, now, back at the sushi bar! We love the interaction with the guys, hampered a bit now by the plexiglass. It seems there is always something on the "fresh board" that we haven't heard of or tried before. Every piece of fish we had last week was awesome. So glad to have the sushi bar at the BEST sushi spot in ATX open again! PS they are taking reservations now, call ahead or get left out in the heat!

Favorite Sushi in ATX / Amazing Place

By jylantir |

This is my absolute fav Sushi restaurant in Austin and I have tried them all! They have fresh fish brought in all the time, amazing staff, and mouth watering, melt in your mouth dishes. If you are going to Tomo for the first time, try to sit at the bar and talk to the Sushi chefs, they can help you decide if you're not sure what to order. Also, check the chalk board on the left hand wall behind the bar. That will have all the fresh fish for the day, once it's gone it will be crossed off! Tomo also has a great selection of tempura, including my favorite Pumpkin. If you have a tolerance for spicy, make sure to check out the fresh chopped wasabi; I eat it all by itself.

Delicious lunch!! We went

By Paradise733637 |

Delicious lunch!! We went to lunch there today. We got three different rolls and enjoyed them all. It was very quick during lunch but i recommend getting there right at 11:30am

let the waitstaff help you decide

By Richard M |

great menu, knowledgeable waitstaff only complaint is that the restaraunt is small and you might have to wait to be seated the "something wrong roll" is amazing and "dancing eel" is awesome if you like eel and want something with a spicy afterkick

Unique Sushi Flair

By Kris W |

The owner/chef used to work at Nobu. The Black Cod is absolutely amazing! Be sure to ask for the specials & take recommendations from the staff. Your mouth will thank you. (:

Over priced for the location, but good food

By Lexi3313 |

Over the weekend, my husband and I went to Tomodachi Sushi. When we pulled up, I was not expecting a shopping center location. Inside the decor was tasteful and comfortable. My husband had the Sushi Bomb, which had 4 sashimi rolls of different fish with fresh wasabi seasoning. The wasabi was very good and different from the paste. We also ordered the Spider Roll, California Roll, The Figi Rolls and The Japanese Lasagna Roll. Aside from the boring Cali Roll (which is my fault) everything was wonderful! The food was prepared well and it tasted great. The only complaint I would have is that our meal was close to $75. To me, the food, location, and the decor does not warrant that type of expense. I will return, but this time I will order lighter and try to keep it under $40. Keep in mind, I have paid this much for sushi at high-end restaurants with better locations and felt comfortable with this.

Explore and enjoy!

By Robert S |

Our family and friends dine at "Tomo" as often as possible. I lived in Japan for four years, and have eaten Japanese food at some of the best restaurants in the U.S. and Europe, and Tomodachi (friend) ranks right up there with the best of them. Steve (the owner) is a fanatic when it comes to quality and creativity, and his staff provides impeccable service. The beef kushiyaki and steam mussels are a couple of my favorites, but Steve will have an offering of some very innovative dishes to try. Explore and enjoy what Steve recommends, you won't be disappointed. The only draw back to this place is that it is rather small, and can sometimes have a long wait due to its popularity. www.tomosushiaustin.com

Fantastic sushi

By SR-Seibs |

I have been here dozens of times over the past years and the food and service here is always exceptional. The best thing is to sit at the bar and have the sushi chefs serve what they want. It is not cheap, but it is excellent food. They use real wasabe here on some of the dishes; not the green paste that most of us thought was wasabe.

Great fresh sashimi without then outrageous price

By Robert O |

If you hate paying too much for sashimi, come hear and get great selection and wonderful quality without the outrageous prices of the famous sushi joints. They have wonderful rolls as well including the Austin roll with Calamari. Delicious. Do not pay high prices. Come here instead.

Great Japanese restaurant.

By Azulado_01 |

We were impressed by the quality of this restaurant. All staff were attentive and friendly. The decor of this restaurant is modern and sleek. They offer many sushi creations which were beautifully presented and delicious. We had a wonderful time.

The BEST Sushi Ever

By James |

I have to say when I moved to Texas, I expected good BBQ and Tex Mex but never did I expect to find such amazing sushi! And I feel it's necessary to qualify my statement in that for the past 30 years prior to moving to TX, I live in Southern California and have been to more than 50 countries. I've been to a few other sushi restaurants since moving to Austin that I won't ever return to, but Tomodachi would easily compete with any of the top sushi restaurants back in SoCal. A local friend recommended Tomodachi and we decided to give it a try. Now, it's our "go-to" place for sushi. Make sure to call ahead for reservations but quite often, you can get a reservation for the same day. On our first visit, we just showed up but after 30 minutes they gave us a table. Again, going forward we always call ahead. And after having been here several times, they are very consistent! This most recent visit, we ordered a seaweed salad to star and the fried tofu. Both were excellent, but it's the sushi we come for! We always start off with some nigiri and never go wrong with the Tuna, Salmon and Yellow Tail. Their fish is without question, some of the freshest fish I have ever tasted anywhere in the world! Sometimes we get the Toro Salmon or Toro Tuna which are amazing, but the regular tuna and salmon are incredible! For rolls, I'm a big fan of Philadelphia Rolls but we are making our way down their list of specialty rolls. So far, we are pretty big fan of the Sex on the Beach roll, Who's ur Daddy and Ex-Girlfriend. On one of our visits, we did try the calamari and we won't order that again. But I really don't care since calamari really isn't something I would normally order when going for sushi. Again, I cannot say enough about the freshness of the fish at this sushi restaurant and this is comparing to any sushi I've had in this country and other parts of the world.

Best value on a Sushi Sashimi platter in town

By Gary T |

My wife, daughter and I eat at this little restaurant often when we are up north. We always get the same thing, the Sushi Sashimi platter for two. It comes with three Sushi rolls, five types of Sashimi, and four types Sushi on rice and a bowl of Seaweed. It easily feeds the three of us and after adding an extyra bowl of Miso and some Unagi Sushi we are out of there for a little more that $60 before tip. Quite the deal in my opinion!

AHHHMMMAAAAZZING

By Haley O |

I have been to most of the sushi restaurants in this city and I will put it against all of them as THE hands down best sushi in this city. It is flavorable, inventive, and unique. I can't say enough good things about it. The serves are knowledgeable and the owner is laid back and a culinary genius! Whatever you get, add fresh wasabi!!!

Good surprise

By JrMushroom |

Very nice when the "neighborhood sushi place" by the office turns out to be good! I've been here twice; the traditional rolls are decent, but they excel with their specials. I'll be back many times. They are busy at lunch- I wish this was a slightly better kept secret!

Our absolute favorite Sushi place

By TJ M |

Good service but excellent sushi. We love going there. Very small and gets busy quick. Lunch doesn't open until 11:31am and not a second before that. It is the best we have found in austin.

E clement restaurant

By Stacey G |

We were craving sushi while on vacation so I looked it up and Tomo was our choice to try. Hands down, the best choice we made. Cool atmosphere, nice employees and amazing food.

Soo fresh and flavorful

By JoshAlmighty |

It's so impressive how innovative and unique these chefs are. We try something different each time we've come here and have always left in a daze and bliss. This recent time we started with the "Say My Name" and an assortment of nigiri. The nigiri fish needed no accompaniment they were soo flavorful. The Say My Name is this tempura jalapeño crabby thing that was so decadent we made sure we took out time with it and favored the moments. Then it was the Ex Girlfriend roll and the Caterpillar Roll, both were so much better than expected, it was like we hadn't had them before. We finished with Quail Egg Shooters (not an alcohol, just a presentation thing) which were refreshing and soo delicious. I sincerely and highly recommend trying this place. Soon.

Best sushi in Austin

By Tammy H |

The only bad thing I can say about this restaurant is that there is not enough seating they definitely have to get some more space or get into a new building. The sushi on the other hand is awesome very good it's perfect they have a wide variety the selection is wonderful and the waiting stop is super nice they definitely make sure that you have a great experience even though they do not have a lot of seating.

Excellent sushi

By lucycan |

If you want great sushi without all the glitter and fan fare, this is your place. In a strip mall but the Toro was some of the best I've ever had. Check out my reviews - Ive been around the block! Rolls were good. Decent, but small, sake menu. Prompt service.

Delicious Sushi in Far North Austin

By plan0mmm |

My husband and I had read good reviews about this new sushi spot in far north Austin off Parmer near Mopac so we stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday. The staff was friendly, welcoming and very helpful as we perused the extensive list of fresh fish available--many of the offerings rarely seen in most sushi restaurants. The menu offered many innovative rolls and we settled on several that were quite spicy. We enjoyed delicious tempura as well. We will be back to try more of their specialties!

Amazing sushi far from the ocean.

By DaGood |

I was very skeptical when my friend suggested that this tiny little place in a strip mall had amazing sushi - I was glad to be proven wrong. We had a fantastic waitress, Yoko, who just asked a little about what we like and then brought us amazing dish after amazing dish. I think my two favorites were a tuna in a wasabi cream sauce - it was amazing, and then a truffle covered white fish - It just melted in my mouth. We had a great meal, the service was wonderful - I highly recommend giving it a try.

Melt in Your Mouth Sushi

By Pacquitta |

What a gem of a restaurant. Best sushi I've tasted in my life. Beautiful presentation and flavor beyond words. We sampled a few of the special rolls including shrimp tempura and the Mexican. Looking forward to making this place part of our next visit to Austin.

Best sushi in Austin

By Craig M |

There are several sushi restaurants in Austin, lots and lots them. Many if them are very good, even great. Yet to me, Tomo is the absolute best in the area. Fresh, different, mouthwatering. The fish nearly melts in your mouth amid an explosion of strong flavors. The best.

My only place for omekase

By Stephanie C |

I've lived in Austin since 2000. I come here for omakase, so I cannot speak to their menu. Omakase means you leave the selection to the chef. The fish is fresh. The chef's are inventive. The technique is spot on. Trust me, I've had a lot of sushi in Hong Kong. My favorite is scallop with uni on top. They occasionally have a wonderful house saki that they make with seasonal fruit during the summer. I'm still trying to catch when they have a watermelon infused one. The staff remembered me after 1 visit. Suzanna (sp?) always seems to know just what I will like. You can tell the staff is obviously busy secondary to the volume of guests, but they make time for every patron. They don't make you feel rushed and give excellent advice. The only inconvenience is their popularity. They are very busy during lunch and evening hours. If you have a large group, call ahead. If you're flexible, 13:15 for lunch and 17:30 for dinner. They're closed between 14:30-17:30.

Really good sushi

By Jeff S |

This place is not cheap, but the sushi was fantastic. We ordered the sushi for two. Since there were three of us, we needed to order more. But the plate was great and the rolls were fun. Bluefin tuna...awesome.

Wouldn't Go to Any Other Place for Sushi

By aposey3 |

Tomodachi Sushi brought back memories of the small neighborhood sushi places in Japan that I visited. Although the menu was varied and had many American sushi dishes, I was impressed with the authentic sushi ones as well. Something for everyone and every taste. Our waitress, Danielle, was EXCEPTIONALLY helpful. She answered our questions and made suggestions that were on target. She even told us how to eat it, i.e., no Soy Sauce on this one. We started out on the right foot with Steamed Mussels in garlic sake sauce done to perfection. We had Yellowtail sashimi and a sushi dish that was not on the menu that I can't remember, but was Danielle approved. Both were delicious. Next we went on to the rolls and all of them were fantastic. Great names like Say My Name, Who's UR Daddy, and The Mexican. Of course, we had to order the California Roll and the Spider Roll for those less adventurous. A wonder meal and a great experienced topped off with Sake Bombs! I wouldn't go to any other place for sushi, but be warned! It is a very small place, so get there early or you'll be waiting for a table.

Sweet little place, great sushi

By Doc L |

The simple elegance of this restaurant always pleases me. The fact that they have an excellent selection of high quality sushi doesn't hurt, of course. One of our favorites is Who's ur daddy. Overall, an excellent place to go.

Always outstanding

By Gary T |

We dine here often and can't recommend it enough. The service is always very good and even where you order the Sushi Sashimi Platter for two your food is delivered quickly. The Platter comes with 12 pieces of Sushi, 12-15 pieces of Sashimi, three rolls and sea weed. The meal includes two bowls of Miso soup.

Moderately priced sushi...

By akarchaske |

Moderately priced sushi but the place is tiny. Some customs of offering warm towels and saying irrasiamase absent (I think one was actually saying moshi). Good tiger roll, fatty salmon, unagi a little too many bones, huge peices, and lastly I think I got a little sick from eating here. I have had lots of sushi and I have never gotten sick. Odd.

Travelers enjoyed fresh sushi

By Jacki M |

We had sushi and sashimi plates, and the former came with a spicy tuna roll. These plates call for a chef's choice of fish, which is nice because it allows for some adventure. We also had some tasty edamame. Good service and nice ambience. We were seated right away at the bar (probably helped that we came in at 8 on a Wednesday), and I recommend bar seating as it is always interesting to see the chefs in constant motion.

Excellent sushi

By JohnBrentwood |

We stopped in for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish. I had the sushi bomb. 4 asst pcs of fish with nice spicy wasabi mix on top. This was very tasty and one of the recommended special rolls. I would absolutely visit Tomodachi on my next trip to Austin. Additionally the service was excellent and the staff were extra friendly. Thanks!!

Solid sushi

By USCKaboom |

Ordered a few rolls and other things. They have a fun menu with lots of rolls. The ankimo was okay not great. Salmon nigiri was good. Overall solid.

Best Sushi in Town

By llmall |

Have been going to Tomo since we found this gem over 10 years ago. Literally the best in town. It is worth the drive, not downtown, but 15 minutes drive from downtown, you won’t be disappointed.

AMAZING Sushi

By Dr D |

My husband and I have made this our weekly spot. The sushi compares to Nobu in Dallas, it is FANTASTIC and not as pricey, which is nice. Very fresh and flavorful. The service is quick, friendly and efficient. Their specialty rolls are creative and a must have.

Great Sushi

By Jerald P |

When we got there, this little sushi place was pretty packed and very busy. So as we waited outside, a waitress brought us our beers and we waited for our table. The wait wasn't all that long. After we got seated and ordered, then the sushi came. Now I am no sushi connoisseur but I do know the difference between good sushi and bad sushi, for sure. The sushi at Tomodachi was absolutely awesome! I loved everything I had and it tasted so amazing. Even my brother who is a sushi snob, loved the sushi here! I even ordered some gyoza and that was tasty as well. I highly recommend this place, but make sure if you don't like waiting or don't like crowds then get there early!!

Excellent Sushi

By DiskOrDisc |

Service was exceptional. Food was exceptional. It is the best sushi that I have had on this continent. When we finally started to leave we saw the crowd waiting just to get in (after 5:30 the line starts). But if you go on off-peak times, there is no wait. Check the hours on their website, as they close for a bit during the afternoon. Fun to see a very diverse kitchen crew.

Great Sushi...

By rdavis122 |

Our first trip to this great little sushi restaurant in quite shopping center on Parmer Lane. Very nice balance of fish to rice..... We all had sushi dinner featuring 8 pieces of sushi and choice of california roll or spicy tuna roll for $18. Seafood was very fresh and rice was perfectly prepared. It was a Friday night so they were busy, but service was very attentive.

Great Sushi

By james_4690 |

My coworker and I visited this restaurant for lunch. The sushi was absolutely amazing. I ordered the chicken box lunch and a roll of spicy tuna. The spicy tuna roll was probably the best I ever had. It was so filling that I didn't even eat dinner that night. The staff was very friendly and service was quick. One word of caution, they cannot give 2 separate checks for one party. We sat at the sushi bar and had to beg for 2 separate checks since we were travelling on business and needed the receipts to expense the bill. The waitress eventually did give us separate checks but said this was an exception.

Its a Love hate thing.

Tomo is always on point...

By Jason H |

Tomo is by far the best sushi joint in North Austin and probably top 3 in all of Austin. Uchi/Uchiko come to mind and that's about it. If you're looking for fresh fish, friendly staff in an unassuming atmosphere then Tomo is your place. They always have a board full of their freshest sushi and the staff is always friendly and helpful with the selections. Their roll list has something for everyone and all this while being reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

Sushi lovers paradise

By KeyConcierge |

This is a place that everyone who's been there raves about it. I am one of them. Their sushi is extremely good. In Japan, there seems to be a particular taste for mayonnaise which is present in many dishes here such as the soft crab (fantastic by the way). They open at 11:30 for lunch and that is the best time to get there since by noon you're likely to have to wait for a table. They have very affordable lunch specials (1, 2 & 3) with very adequate portions and Bento trays. The dining room is pleasant and lighting at dinner time provides a relaxing atmosphere. I am lucky to live nearby and be able to visit often with friends or on business.

Evening meal

By Fathima I |

It was good sushi at a good price We had a 1 1/2 year fats sleep which was a bit difficult as it was a bit too noisy But the sushi was amazing !! Will definitely go again if there were not so many restaurants I had to try In Texas :) Was too busy eating did only manage to take one picture lol

Excellent Suchi Rolls

Food at this small restaurant is just awesome. This place is quite busy but the wait is worth it. I ordered the volcano sushi roll and it was just great.

Great service, good food, and atmosphere!

Ordered the rainbow roll and cucumber salad both worth trying if you like rainbow rolls. Most popular rolls are "screaming orgasm" and the "exgirlfriend". I didn't try them but it was being ordered a lot. Don't know if its partially due to the name or the roll being that good. Great service and price is normal for a sushi bar. You will pay avg pricing based on what you order. I wouldn't drive across town to try the place but if your near by I recommend it.

Hands down, best sushi in Austin!

There are a lot of sushi places to choose from in Austin, but you have to visit Tomo for the very best! You'll feel like you've just walked into a cool New York restaurant with a fun atmosphere and great staff. The fish is brought in fresh every Thursday, and they have an amazing selection of sushi/sashimi, as well as an eclectic list of rolls. Some of our favs include the Screaming Orgasm, Jap Tai, Ame Ebi with quail egg, Terry's garlic tuna, Ex-girlfriend roll, and Something Wrong roll. They all have a unique flavor profile and make you close your eyes to truly take in the flavor explosion in your mouth. This is one of Austin's hidden gems that the locals love!

Great atmosphere, better food, and attentive staff! Came in with my wife Michiko on a Sat. night...the place was rockin'. I had a quick Nato roll while my wife had an umeshiso roll not found many places, then it was on to some agedashi tofu, miso soup, and assorted sushi. The tako stood out as unusually fresh, and the Saba was to die for...we live close...can't believe we missed this place. Fukumoto is stll our fave, but this was outstanding!

Quality food with friendly service

As good a sushi and sashimi as I have tasted outside Japan, despite the Americanized names. Sex on the beach, Lets get naked and Screaming orgasm certainly did not remind me of Tokyo, but the food did. Will return.

Love their lunch

The atmosphere is charming and the wait staff attentive and helpful. My husband and I have lunch there every time we visit Austin. We had the Bento boxes this time, but have had suchi rolls in the past.

Excellent Sushi

Sushi is one of our familie's favorite meals. We live overseas and eat sushi all over the world. Tomo is one of our all time favorite restaurants! The rolls are excellent everytime, we are NEVER disappointed. Our friends live in Round Rock and took us there six or seven yrs ago, we make it a must each time we are in Austin. The Cherry Blossom is to die for. The Volcano, Sex On the Beach, Ex-girlfriend, and Somethings Wrong are our favorite rolls but all that we have tried are very good. It is a small restaurant, so quite often we order and take it back to their house. Whenever we have other family or friends visiting with us we introduce them to Tomo and everyone loves it as much as we do. I highly recommended Tomo!

Fantastic

Good sushi places are not hard to find in Austin. Great sushi places are! Tomo is on the top of my list right now. Delicious sushi, rolls, nice reasonable sake list. The sushi is the most delightful and freshest I've had in the area so far. It does get a bit noisy and fills up fast after 7.
